Of course, I'm your host, Tim Gettys.
Starting point is 00:00:42 I'm joined today by blessing Adioia Jr. Good day, Tim. And Andy Cortez. Great morning, Tim. Great morning. Did you see Vin Diesel's Instagram post today? No, what's you up to now? Scared.
Starting point is 00:00:53 You know, just think about what day it is. Oh, of course. Everyone, you need to check it out. I'm not going to spoil it for you. You need to check it out. Did he learn about it today? No, no. Oh, okay.
Starting point is 00:01:05 No, no. I just spiked me, but I found out that, just found out today. If you're watching live, be part of the show by superchatty on YouTube.com slash kind of funny games. I'm so glad Greg's not here today. You know, so much could go wrong. Remember, we couldn't do this on our producers on patreon.com slash kind of funny.
Starting point is 00:01:23 So thank you to Omega Buster, Delaney the Somtwining, and Michael, his evento. Like I was saying about the Superchats, today's topic is going to be all about Nintendo Hot Takes. So specifically for the Nintendo. Direc we saw earlier this week. I guess both of the Nintendo directs we saw earlier this week. So get them super chats.
Starting point is 00:01:42 It's kept fucking around. It's got me fucking around. Because I know he's not here. It is me fucking around. You just said it. You said it with too much confidence. Oh, man. Can you imagine if Greg lied about Blisscon.
Starting point is 00:01:58 Oh, Lord. He's still come in and talk about 9-11. Yeah. On the Nintendo show. Jesus. this. We ought to got a super chat for Mr. Sandwich to 20,000 who says, honestly, I'm really satisfied with the Switch and Nintendo's
Starting point is 00:02:11 lineup after this week. There are tons of great games being released in an incredibly consistent rate. 2027 already looks packed with Metroid Kirby and Zeno Blake. That's what I'm saying. And I'm the one who like last December during our Nintendo Switch 2 review so far, I was kind of disillusioned with Nintendo a little bit. I was kind of like, I don't know, man. Last year
Starting point is 00:02:28 didn't do it as strongly for me. And now I'm sitting here like dang. Hey man. Nintendo's doing it for me now. I cannot stop looking at these god dang Ocarina screens. Man. Like, I, I don't know if there's a, a fucking more adorable little thing than Link.
Starting point is 00:02:46 You love him. He's so fucking adorable. This little baby is so cute, dude. And I just love all the memes of like, the little side view of like, where he's looking, he's giving like the side guy. And then they showed like the cat comparison.
Starting point is 00:02:59 And it's just all the people on Twitter doing like, you know, mom, I want chalky milk. And he's so fucking cute. I cannot wait to play this game. The visual style has grown on me for the Ocreener remake a bit, except for Link. Anytime I see Young Link, there's something about his face, and I realized what it is.
Starting point is 00:03:16 It's, this footage has come out the same time as that Elizabeth Holmes clip with Nathan Fielder talking to her. And there's something about Elizabeth Holmes and Young Link in the Ocreen remake. Gotcha. Where I see a little bit of her in. Little similarity. There's a little similarity. Gotcha. Okay.
Starting point is 00:03:32 Maybe it's the size of her eyes and the intense. look. I'll tell you this. I saw that trailer when I was half asleep and I didn't know what I was watching. No one did. And I could you. I thought it was an actor wearing prosthetics or like a mask.
Starting point is 00:03:49 And I had no idea what was going on. Again, like this is half asleep. And again, people that were fully awake still didn't really have a whole lot of idea. But I was watching this like just in a, you know, I was in a fugue state. And I'm walking. I was like, what is is this like some actor we know that's like going to be playing this person
Starting point is 00:04:07 I just so thrown off by the visuals of it all I mean it's off putting because there's just a little like subtle bounce going on and you're like is this like those TikToks that people watch like this is crazy oh right those newer ones yeah and then it's like oh no she's just bouncing her baby in the back yeah yeah yeah what a what a reveal
Starting point is 00:04:23 he's so cute look at that little guy I don't know man there's evil in his eyes I love it but I I ain't evil in Elizabeth Holmes size isn't link size. The one thing I have been loving about having Zelda in my, you know, god-awful Twitter algorithm is the stills that a lot of people have been taking from the trailer and also finding out that the green suit tunic link is all the little grass or what? We already knew that, right? It's like all the little grass stuff.
Starting point is 00:04:57 He clearly like this suit was made in Kokiri forest. but then the Goron Red suit is like cloth with a lot of metal accents and stuff like that because of the Gorons and then the Sora or the Zora Blue tunic or whatever has like a lot of little scale effects
Starting point is 00:05:14 Oh it's so cool And I'm like so I'm glad that it's just not red straw Or whatever and then blue straw effects It's really really cool I'm still not one over The more I look at it the more I'm just like I really don't like the texture I just I don't
Starting point is 00:05:28 I think if they're, they're just too big and too pronounced. I think if you, a little game dev secret out here, all right, a little game dev secret. Those textures you see there, it's not, those aren't like normally hand-carved. It's, you know, whenever anybody zooms in on Spider-Man in any of the recent games and they're like,
Starting point is 00:05:52 man, this fabric work is incredible. It's a tileable texture that you just say, tile more or tile less. And it gets, it's legitimately like a 256 by 256 texture of just straw. And so I want them to like just scale the straw down a bit and then, you know, lower that normal map a bit because it is too pronounced when he's around other normies. But I still think he looks awesome. This is what I'm going to tell our audience not to do.
Starting point is 00:06:19 Don't Photoshop link's little hat in 20 years and blonde hair onto Elizabeth Holmes. Gotcha. Don't do that. Don't do that. Don't just don't do it. Does you also notice his little suit on top of the adult link? The adult link one, it's an owl underneath. His,
Starting point is 00:06:36 it's an owl face. The eyebrows of the... Hey, you have a touchscreen? I didn't know that. Yeah, there's a touchscreen. Damn, that's crazy. That's crazy. But it's like, you know, like the owl, like...
Starting point is 00:06:48 The eyebrows are there, or not the eyebrows, but you know what I mean? Like the feathers that go upwards and the eyes are right there and then the... Do you see it? I don't see it. I don't see what he's talking about. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Here, off of like these are the eyebrows.
Starting point is 00:07:01 Yeah, send this to acid. Oh, okay. I kind of see it a little bit. Yeah, the, the collars of the eyebrows? No, no, no, no. You see those like those little strips. He said, yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:10 Never mind. I don't see it then. I don't see it. I've already seen the collars of the eye because I can kind of see like, I can kind of see an owl shape. Like the big ass owl in the game, you know? Oh, okay. Yeah, I 100% see it.
Starting point is 00:07:23 Yeah. Yeah. It's fucking sick. Yeah, it's over designed. It's really, really cool. I watched the Metrodravenous trailer No less than 100 times Oh wow
Starting point is 00:07:31 It's so good you guys I just I really like the logo For that game It's so sick I might buy it off a logo alone You need to bless Watch the trailer again with headphones Because we were hyped and talking over it
Starting point is 00:07:42 The music is crazy Yeah It's as cool as the logo And I'm like damn I didn't think that'd be possible But now is this Andy The music's crazy What's what you're talking about right Where the belt is going over
Starting point is 00:07:53 His check his vest Above the belt no, sorry, not the red belt, the brown belt. Yes, yes, yes. Underneath the brown belt. Yeah. Yeah, you can really see it assumed in there on the like, the link, you know, the thumbnail. Like above the adult part.
Starting point is 00:08:12 Yeah, if I click in, if she zoos out. Anyway, there's an owl there. That's my hot take is that there's an owl there, which Twitter told me about. Is Metroid ravenous, this might be hard of our hot takes topic. Is Metroid ravenous going to be the Metroid, the 2D Metroid game that means? and Andy go, you know what? Because what was the, what do you say about Metroid Dread? That's a good game. Good game.
Starting point is 00:08:33 Good. Is it great? Is it amazing? I think it's a really good game. You know? I like this. I just like to fit him up. I know. I know. I think I'm, I think it's an awesome game. And I'd be slightly above Andy on it, but I think I'm closer to Andy than I am to Tim. I think it's
Starting point is 00:08:49 like an awesome game, but I do downplay it to annoy it. But I, like, I'm still not of the point where I think it's like as... I wasn't blown away by you, but I really liked it. Me too. I bet you you you would be now. I bet you if you like, even if just play it for one hour and I'll bet you be like,
Starting point is 00:09:06 I'm blown away. I'll tell you what I didn't like. You were fine now. You understand. Yeah, but like, did I play it pre or post Metroid Prime? His prime is like, oh, is it pre? Okay, maybe I'm a bit more in a Metroid now than I was then. I'll tell you what I don't love about the trailer is that as I'm playing Metroid Dread,
Starting point is 00:09:24 the cutscenes are phenomenal the goddamn the production levels on just the action of what Samus is doing it's why I was so bummed out going into Metroid Prime 4 because those are different Sammases like
Starting point is 00:09:38 she is way more sick in Metroid dread she does some cool stuff in Prime 4 those story reasons for that sure but like I don't know I just love like she's fucking raw dude she's so raw in Metroid
Starting point is 00:09:51 dress she does awesome shit but while you're watching the cutscenes, you're like, yeah, the Switch 1 underpowered, obviously. It doesn't look as great as it can and just, it looks like there's not lighting turned on a lot of it, but you're like, whatever, it's a Switch 1, what I'm seeing is visually
Starting point is 00:10:06 sick as hell. I still feel that way about a lot of the cutscenes that we were shown in that trailer where I'm like, it's like missing a pass of something. It still looks sick as hell, but I'm still missing like lighting and depth and like, I want
Starting point is 00:10:22 like cast shadows and stuff like that. It still looks badass as hell, but, you know, I want a little bit more. It looks so much better than dread. I like watch the trailers back to back, and I'm like, holy shit. Yeah. It's like such a step up. I like the cutscenes. I like the choreography.
Starting point is 00:10:36 Yeah. I like the voice acting. He's kind of a vampire. She's fucking scary, dude. Mercury steam, right? Yeah. Pop it off. And I think this is going to be the one where me and Andy are both like fantastic.
Starting point is 00:10:46 Yeah. Fantastic. Well, that's what I hope. Everybody, welcome. And welcome to the topic of the show. Tots. Tats. Tats.
Starting point is 00:10:54 It's your hot takes. Greg asked you to call in and give your hot takes for Nintendo's directs, and we're going to react to them. Kevin, play the first one. Hey, kind of funny. We're off from Atlanta, Georgia. After watching the direct, I think it's officially time for me to upgrade from the Switch 1 to Switch 2. Yeah, baby.
Starting point is 00:11:15 And is it just me or is this a hot take to say when it's all said and done? Looks like Nintendo might win this generation. I mean, Ocarina of Time remake. I've never played Ocarino time, but Twilight Prince is my favorite. New Kirby. Oh, sorry, I was prepping the next one and I cut it off. Give me one second. New Kirby.
Starting point is 00:11:36 I could read the rest of what he said because I have it down here. Yeah, go ahead. Wait, hold on, hold on. Let's replay it if you're able to. New Kirby, New Metroid, Star Fox remake, Docy Kong, Bonanza, Mario Kart, whenever the next Smash Brothers comes out. It's already been like, what, a year and a half for Switch 2? they might have the better games this generation
Starting point is 00:12:00 kind of crazy to say but yeah hi guys hell yeah yeah will they do are they the best this situation will they win out
Starting point is 00:12:11 um I don't think that's too crazy to say I mean I think that like what are we talking about winning because I feel like any metric we're actually talking about they already won like if we're just talking about like exclusives coming out generation to generation
Starting point is 00:12:27 PS5 exclusive versus it's like all right what are we talking about. Yeah. Yeah, I just feel like they're playing a different game. Yeah. They're playing a game like fucking PlayStation and Xbox they're still they're still in their PVP era. You know, hey, we're going to take fizzant from you. Nintendo, they're playing a fucking slay the spire right now.
Starting point is 00:12:43 They're just trying to see how every generation they're like, all right, how can far can we go? We're running it back. We're putting out all the same franchises. We're going to see if we can make them better this time again. Like that's the game that they're playing and I'm I think the thing that Nintendo has mastered is figuring out a slate of games
Starting point is 00:13:01 throughout a generation that works and can carry them through to the next generation that they can refresh at twists here and there, find new ideas here and there. But we know what's coming for the rest of the generation. And like the Nintendo fan, the people that are bought into the platform, are excited for those things.
Starting point is 00:13:18 They're excited for Smash, Mario Kart, what Pikmin, Zeno Blade, whatever other franchises you can name. So I think Nintendo is at the point where I expect them to win more generations than not because they have the template laid out for them. In three to four years, in the next three to four years,
Starting point is 00:13:34 we will have not only like the awesome selection we have now, but there will be a new Mario, there will be a new mainline Zelda that is only switched to exclusive. And I'm so excited to see how much horsepower they can really get out of this machine after the wonders that they were able to pull off with tears and Breath of the Wild. like it's already such a solid
Starting point is 00:13:57 lineup and they're still bangers incoming whatever the next smash is whatever you know I mean let's not even talk about game of the year Splatoon Raiders you know what I mean like yeah God's what team Raiders is so good I think a more interesting conversation would be less so
Starting point is 00:14:12 compared Nintendo to other platforms and more so can the Switch 2 generation beat the Switch one generation that's the conversation I'm having because I'm like I think we can get there but then it's a matter of what new IP can you give me that
Starting point is 00:14:28 buys me in? And granted I think that's maybe one of the places where Switch one could have done better. Like we had some swings, you know, we can talk about arms. Was arms great? Was arms whatever? Right? But like arms was no splatoon. Can you give me a new splatoon like IP this
Starting point is 00:14:44 generation? You know, something that comes out of left field that we're like, oh shit, we all have this body in here. Yeah, that is a big question. I don't, I wouldn't bet on the Switch 2 generation being better than the Switch 1, but I also wouldn't bet against it. I feel like there is a chance and I feel like we're not there yet, obviously.
Starting point is 00:15:01 But I do think with like Pokemon wins and waves, if that comes out and is an absolute banger, it's like that makes up for the sins of the past. And we love Scarlet and Violet. I just forgot about like, oh my God, I'm so excited. Pokemon wins and waves. Holy It's next year. We have
Starting point is 00:15:16 another voicemail that might not agree. Oh. Hey, what's up? It's Gajer. Luke shot first in the chat and I'm from Portland, well, I'm not from Portland, Oregon, but I live in Portland, Oregon. Shout out to the Portland, Kevin. Where you from? Kind of funny best friend up here in the Portland area. And congrats to the fourth time champ, you're amazing.
Starting point is 00:15:36 My hot take is that Nintendo has still not shown me anything this generation to make me buy a Switch 2. I just haven't seen it. O'Brien of Time was awesome, but I've played that game. It's not even my favorite of the Zelda's. It looks, you know, upgraded and cool, but it doesn't necessarily give me anything to want to buy a now five or almost, what is it, 550 console, it's just not worth it for me. And Sammis
Starting point is 00:16:00 and Metroid continue to not look like next 10 games. They look old school to me. The 2D ones, the graphics just don't look that great to me. And I'm just finding that I'm drifting further and further away from Nintendo. So that's my not take. Anyways, thanks. This may be stop for me. It's all good.
Starting point is 00:16:16 Bye guys. Did, okay, I guess my bigger question would be how much of the Switch 1 was experienced by person. It does sound like maybe they already had the switch one. It's just like I'm looking for a reason to upgrade to the part two version or whatever. But yeah, I think a lot of that comes down to when we come out of a direct or out of any of
Starting point is 00:16:40 these reactions and we go, there's a lot of stuff there for other people. I just was not particularly stoked about the lineup of games that were shown today. And maybe it just comes down to taste and the lineup of games that are out right now aren't really enticing to this person. Yeah, I'm not mad at this at all because this is such a personal take as far as what brings you to Nintendo. And I think I'll pause it is that I think Nintendo fans, every Nintendo fan has a different killer app. And so for somebody, for plenty of people, I'd say, Pocopia was the killer app so far this gen. For other people, it might have been D.K. Bonanza. For an upcoming group of people, it might be Pokemon wins and waves. I think for a lot of
Starting point is 00:17:22 people though it's a brand new Zelda like a new new Zelda not Akarina or a new 3D Mario and Tomodachi Life was also really big among like switch one I guess that did come out oh you're right yeah you're right yeah yeah Animal Crossing is another one that's like that's going to be a killer app for so many people so if you're an Animal Crossing fan I understand why you might not have the desire to get the switch to yet you're probably going to get that right but you might do a little bit of waiting but I do I do one I think so far we're in a pretty good place with the Switch 2 games but also
Starting point is 00:17:56 I do wonder why Nintendo didn't wait until Switch 2 to put out a tiers of the kingdom because I feel like that would have been such a killer app for so many people as well it doesn't need it necessarily but it's like we're so close why not? They put out a Switch 2 edition right made money. They made more money this way and I don't feel like they really lost much
Starting point is 00:18:14 like I think that they're selling as many Switch 2s as they can right now I feel like even having killer apps out I don't know that they need that yet this or in the generation because they're still riding high. Like I feel like wait until you are kind of like petering out a little bit. And there's no Peter in sight when we look at the lineup at this point. But I think you're right, obviously, about the big game to get people to actually want to
Starting point is 00:18:37 upgrade the systems. But I also think Nintendo is in a more unique position compared to PlayStation or Xbox where, yes, a lot of people have their one killer app. But then there's a lot of people that are just like, I want just the new platform because I like Nintendo games. You know, it's like I like the breadth of. their library and I expect that they're going to surprise and delight me over and over and whether it is sequels reboots remakes or new IP there's just like a buy-in that they have so upgrading to the
Starting point is 00:19:05 switch for me like so far my favorite thing about the switch two has been it's 4k and it's it's technically good which i could not say about the last couple of nintendo consoles right so uh just being able to play all my nintendo games in a way that i find more acceptable it's um That to me is my killer app, you know. But Portland Kevin here, is that, no, it's not. No, that was my age. You're from Portland. My bad gauge.
Starting point is 00:19:30 They shot it out Portland, Kevin. Gotcha. In the call. There we go. It's like, yeah, it sounds like you're not a Nintendo guy, which is like, all right, that's fair. Then I wouldn't recommend you buy a Switch 2 because while I do think the switch 2 is the best third party machine that Nintendo's ever had, it's not the best place to play third-party games.
Starting point is 00:19:48 So if you, if you were into Capcom games, get a PlayStation. You know? Yeah, I guess a lot of it comes down to, you know, they mentioned they weren't super into Ocreen of time, but it's not going to be this like system seller for them. But if they love Tears of the Kingdom and Breath of the Wild, then maybe just wait to see what that next thing is. That's my answer. Because I don't think you call in with this take unless you are somewhat of an Nintendo fan.
Starting point is 00:20:12 Because if you're not a Nintendo fan, it's like, well, of course you're not going to buy Nintendo, right? But I, my, the thing I imagine is that they're looking for a grand advantage. adventure, right? Like what is going to be the Zelda Tears of the Kingdom type experience? And I guess going back to my thing of why would Nintendo, why wouldn't Nintendo just wait for Tears of the Kingdom? I think you're right. As far as like, yo, you sold so many copies on the Switch 1 that has 100 million units. So that makes sense. And then also internally, I'm sure they know Ocarina is coming. And so that's going to be the exclusive Zelda early on in the Switch
Starting point is 00:20:44 lifecycle. That takes that place. If that doesn't do it for you, like I think that'll do it for so many other, I would even say that'll do it for most other Zelda fans. But you'll get a brand new Zelda one day and then you can buy your Switch then. And I think Nintendo, they're getting the same money, if not more money. Yeah. The costs are going to go up. Yeah, totally. But then there's one more on the topic of this.
Starting point is 00:21:10 Hey, take is, if you are a fan of video games in general, you need only one console, which is a Nintendo Switch 2. and the direct proof that if you're a fan of adventure games then the Nintendo Switch has it. If you're a fan of Metroidvania's with the third party and the single
Starting point is 00:21:35 player is inclusive, the Nintendo Switch has it. And it's $500 which is the cheapest out of all of them and it's on the go. Every third party game is coming to it and you don't need any of a console. I love how unnecessary that last part was.
Starting point is 00:21:57 Get over. Get over. I don't feel as strongly as you do about this, but I think that Nintendo Switch 2 is, I think, for a lot of people, the right suggestion to get if you're only going to get one console because it does have, at this point,
Starting point is 00:22:14 the best exclusives and access to the majority of third-party games at a playable condition. Yeah, I think majority being the key word there. I think Nintendo Switch 2 is probably at this point the most recommendable one console to own for a casual gamer like there are plenty of people I meet
Starting point is 00:22:33 who I wouldn't consider like oh you're who I wouldn't consider in the camp of us or people in the audience right who pay attention to the video games that much and so many of them only own a switch right and like they're excited because yeah they get to play Animal Crossing or then or they get to play a Hogwarts legacy or whatever
Starting point is 00:22:49 that big mainstream game is those tend to come to switch especially nowadays um as that caller was talking, I pulled up my game of the year list so far to see like, all right, how many of these have come to switch so far? And like,
Starting point is 00:23:04 damn, his number two is gonna, is gonna blow your mind. I can't even read it. I was just like bullshitting. Oh, okay, I was gonna say, I was like maybe that is my number two. Oh, okay.
Starting point is 00:23:13 Would surprise people. Number three, though. Come on. You already know. Come on. And number three, I have right now is a switch game. So,
Starting point is 00:23:22 but like, for third part, party stuff, Res, Neville Requiem, A, that's out on Switch 2, baby. Star Wars Zero Company, which, you know, so far, so far, it's on my list. That game's so good. It's so good, not on Switch 2, but it's one that I believe, firstly, should be on Switch 2, but also will eventually come to Switch 2, I would think. Is Mix tape on Switch?
Starting point is 00:23:48 Oh, Mix tape is on Switch. Okay, and then Double 7 First Light. That's my game of the year so far. That's not on. That's coming to Switch 2. Yeah. Hey, the caller might be right. Damn.
Starting point is 00:23:58 Get over it. Hey, get over it. Caller might be right, actually. Get over. All right. Now we're going to move on to takes about the direct as a whole. Jake Bakes here from Kansas City. My hot take is that Nintendo Direct will never be truly quote, great again.
Starting point is 00:24:16 I had a fun time with yesterday's direct, as I do most. They're commercials, who cares? But we will never reach the repeated peak we got with the Switch 1. with longer development times increasing the distance between big first party Swiss franchises and maybe more importantly the Switch one benefiting from that perfect storm of the Wii U into the switch life cycle,
Starting point is 00:24:36 the novelty of just seeing some games on handheld and frankly Nintendo needing to fight for its life we're just not going to get those levels of hype again and frankly that's okay. Much love to you all, byeie. I like it. I do like this hot take. I think that
Starting point is 00:24:52 especially the point that these longer development cycles are making it so that we won't get like, I don't think we'll ever get another direct where, or we'll get a direct where it's like two major gigantic bombs drop in the same thing. Like when I'm talking about the big IP and maybe the unknowables, I think just because games are taking longer to make and those schedules are getting more and more upset from each other. Are Nintendo games?
Starting point is 00:25:21 Because I don't think that they are. I think we've made. Tears of the kingdom was like, seven years or something. But think about like the Zelda games in the past, it's not like they were coming out every year or two. Like there was always like pretty gurthy gap between them. I think the tiers is the big, like the Zelda mainline Zelda games are probably the biggest example of that. But even thinking about 3D Mario games, it's like, I don't even think it's about development time as much as it's just about Nintendo doesn't put that many of them out there.
Starting point is 00:25:50 I mean, do we know how long Bonanza was in development for? Yeah, we do. And I think it was like three years. What were they working on after Odyssey? Well, there was Bowser's Fury and then also, I imagine the next 3D Mario. I still like the call, Tim. Fuck you. I mean, I completely disagree with this because I disagree with it in multiple ways.
Starting point is 00:26:13 I think that there will be great Nintendo Directs. There will be bad Nintendo Direx, and that's, that will always be the case. I also don't think that Nintendo Direx were ever great that you're talking about. I feel like, like, show me one direct that you're, you're like, man, that's the pinnacle, that's the peak. They all have so much bullshit. And I guess there are a couple that have had big, giant announcements. I think that they're stronger now than they've ever been because they have a focus of,
Starting point is 00:26:37 we're talking about the games that are going to be coming out in the next four months, and they actually stick to that shit. Like, it might mean that it's a little less exciting because we're not getting these giant unicorn announcements that we're talking about for like six years. But it does mean that we're going to be playing Ocreen of Time in a month. And then we're going to be playing Metroid three months from then. And Kirby right after that. And those are going to happen.
Starting point is 00:26:57 Yeah, I 100% agree with that. I think what Tim's talking about does lend itself to when you're talking about a great direct what that means to you. Because, yeah, like, I kind of miss the idea of Nintendo doing those unicorn announcements a little bit because I think that does lend itself to those great moments in directs when it's the new legend of Zelda and his breath of the wild. And you see him sitting from the TV and you see the grass flowing and all that shit. Like, I don't think we're going to get things like that quite often. anymore because of their more recent strategy of trying to get games that are coming soon. But I think it's probably a smarter strategy to announce these games closer to when the audience is going to get them. It's less annoying, I'll say.
Starting point is 00:27:42 Metro Prime 4. Yeah, to be able to go, oh, sick, okay, I'm going to play this in six months as opposed to never know about these things again. But also, yeah, I agree with Tim. I don't think we ever had a truly amazing era of Nintendo Direx. They're always weird. they're always kind of awkward. When I think of a great direct moment, I think of the Smash Ultimate Direct
Starting point is 00:28:02 that everybody's here. But that was a moment. That wasn't the entire thing. And even then, so many people hated that direct because 20 minutes of it was talking about Smash Brothers and there wasn't much else of interest. Yeah. And one thing I'll also shout out here.
Starting point is 00:28:15 Like, I've talked about this on like my personal stream because I went back and rewatched the previous direct to the summer one. And like I remember in real time, we all didn't love. love that direct, rewatching it. Maybe this is post-Zeno Blade playthrough me.
Starting point is 00:28:30 The Summer Direct, pretty good. Like, I forget what I gave it, but I think I, if I was to rescore it, I would give it a higher score, re-watching it. I think it's gonna be- It had Kingdom Hearts 4. It had a new Xenoblade. It had like, was Final Faints and Seven Revelations
Starting point is 00:28:46 is part of that? Yes. Yeah, like, that last direct was pretty good. But it's also, to each their own, as far as what's going to hit for them or not. I also think that it's because Kingdom Hearts 4, we know that that's not the best
Starting point is 00:29:00 that it can look and it didn't look particularly visually great. So it's like, yeah, it's the first time we've seen it since the first time we saw it, but as we're looking at it, we're like, what the this is crazy and like as I'm watching, I'm like this isn't anywhere close to
Starting point is 00:29:16 where this game will look like this game will look much better in other places and we kind of saw that and we know that that will happen. and what I'm watching right now, I'm not super impressed. So it's just like every announcement that could have been had there was the least satisfying version of it.
Starting point is 00:29:34 And like going back to the Ocarina one, you can't be mad at, you know, the thing for leaking. Like it was never supposed to be known that that thing was going to happen there. But we did. And then when we just kind of get that short bit, it's like we get angry, but it's like, well, that's all that was planned for
Starting point is 00:29:54 they didn't have a gameplay video or whatever so it's like I blame Greg you know what I mean Greg got us all in a bad mood I blame Nate the hate Let's keep Greg off the directs for now on I was trying to offend them and Greg was disagree with me
Starting point is 00:30:07 and then people would disagree with come on it was a good direct Next one Yo KF crew John from Texas I love this content Keep up the great work
Starting point is 00:30:19 My hot take is that people who see say that these Nintendo Directs are mid or they could have been an email or they're just not good or whatever need to grow up and realize that the marketing cycle for these consoles and games are now six months out or slightly more. Kitt and Krista said if you're seeing anything more than that, that means that the switch two is failing. So people just need to adjust their expectations.
Starting point is 00:30:48 Okay, love you. Bye. Tim, what do you think about that last part? because I never thought about that, the idea that if they're not announcing games for the next six months in these directs, then that's a sign of failure of the platform. I don't know about failure of the platform,
Starting point is 00:30:59 but I think it would be like a failure in planning. Like I think that the, you know, the Switch one, like someone earlier said this like, God, how lucky they were, that they could fall back on the Wii use library and just kind of like port the living hell out of amazing classic games that so few people played.
Starting point is 00:31:17 in addition to cutting out the 3DS and so they were only focusing on one console as opposed to two for the first time. So they just had like such a leg up and getting that breath of the wild Mario Odyssey like that'll never happen again on that scale, right? But I do think that when we look at it now,
Starting point is 00:31:33 it's like even looking at this next year that we know, we already know we're getting Metroid, we're getting Kirby, we're getting Pokemon wins and waves, we're getting a Zeno Blade. It's like that's crazy shit, right? We already know that. Like I don't know that we got years like that on the Switch 1 that weren't the first year, right?
Starting point is 00:31:49 There were solid years, but it's like, that's, we already know about that. There's so much we don't know about. And I feel like we will get the year filled out even more and it's just going to be even more impressive. So I think that they're in a great place now, but I remember when the Switch one hit, what was it, 20, 20, I think. Are you thinking of the Paper Mario year?
Starting point is 00:32:10 Yeah. And they had Animal Crossing, right? Which obviously is huge, but it's like, that was a very slow year for Nintendo. That was a, down year quote unquote but it's like compared to all the other ones where you're just expecting releases i mean there was a while that nintendo was hitting a release a month like a nintendo published release a month and they're still kind of keeping up with that and i
Starting point is 00:32:31 think the quality of the titles and the interest in the titles are higher than they've been so if they can keep that up we're good if we get to a point that we get another weird drought in like two years that's one on my oh there's a problem yeah yeah i don't 100% agree I think that view from Kitt and Krista is interesting and I'm not thought about the idea of like no we're able to talk about things right now in the next six months because we have things happening right now in the next six months that we can talk about and so like that cadence being able to hit that regular month or every two months or whatever it is kind of cadence for first party stuff when I look at the last year I've been pretty satisfied with it right like Spatoon Raiders in July and I know we also got a rhythm heaven in July as well. It's like, oh, Platoon Raiders, it's fantastic.
Starting point is 00:33:19 Fire emblem coming up. A lot of people like rhythm, rhythm heaven, fire emblems coming up. November, we're getting Zelda. I forget what's October. I think it's Nintendo Switch Sports.
Starting point is 00:33:28 Mm-hmm. Somebody's going to play that. Like, I feel pretty good right now. I think a lot of it comes down to just continue to learn how to show these things off in the best way possible. And I think anytime,
Starting point is 00:33:41 anytime not watching Koizumi play a game and give you a rundown of what's happening like anytime we're not doing that I think we're in a good spot but as soon as we start to do that like that that awesome moment happened where you're like you read a super chat and it was like what a great pace
Starting point is 00:34:01 and then they immediately did like a and that one was definitely not as bad as past ones that we've had but like it always comes that there's always just like one little element where man you can have the best pace and you're showing off a bunch of cool variety of games and then let's just drag this thing to a halt and show off a game for seven minutes
Starting point is 00:34:19 and seven minutes, not the worst thing in the world, but when it's in a showcase of 28 minutes, it's like, oh, what are we doing right now, man? You guys are doing so good. I gave my hot take of the episode. I, even though it is objectively bad when they do that, I love it and I hope it never changes
Starting point is 00:34:36 because that we will never, like that's the only way we get the meme of coizumi jacking off off screen. How else are we going to get it? You're right. Nintendo regularly has moments in their directs where it's like, oh, this is an immediate meme. And like my conspiracy theories are doing it kind of on purpose.
Starting point is 00:34:54 But also I think they're just unintentionally funny. And like, I love it. It may not even be, I don't want to just solely put this on Coizu's doing a demo. But they'll do it often for other stuff. It's the infantilizing of like the way that they're just like describing games. It's the VO. It's just the. the words they choose to use.
Starting point is 00:35:15 It's their entire house style. Yeah. Do you want coins? You can walk over to the chest and open the chest. Yeah. Dang, look at that. We got some coins. And in this game, it's like, man, we need a jump.
Starting point is 00:35:26 That's why I made the joke of like, this is how Greg talks to his child. Like, you've never seen a video game before. You're a little dumb baby. Here's what you do. And it's, uh, I totally agree with you. But it's like, I love the shit. I love the memes. I love laughing at it.
Starting point is 00:35:39 I'm in for the vibes. Yeah. I wish they weren't there. I would trade it away. It would make the product so much better. You can make it better, but it's like, I, like, to a certain extent, I prefer watching Nintendo Direx as opposed to State of Plays.
Starting point is 00:35:54 Because Stata Plays at this point have gotten real buttoned up, and it's like, all right, cool. At a certain point, it's like, it's kind of boring. It's like, all right, cool, we're going to see a very well-edited, very well-paced show full of trailers for games that I'm mostly not going to play. Nintendo Direct, it's like, all right, what bullshit? What bullshit do you have to show me to show off a game that's going to be a 10 out of 10 masterpieces? It's going to be some bullshit.
Starting point is 00:36:19 You'll present it in the exact same way as a 2 out of 10 piece of shit. Like, where are you going to put your magnificent game that you've been spending 10 years? It's going to be my favorite game of all time. Where are you going to sandwich it between? Because whatever it is, the first game is going to be a hunk of trash. And the game after is going to be some weird Squarginic shit where it's fucking HD, 2D, farming, life simulator with the craziest name of all time. And that's what I ask for.
Starting point is 00:36:47 Like, that's what I want. Let's do one more before we hit the ads here, staying in line with the six-month cycle conversation. Pentagoras. Like some weird fucking name. This is the Seattle Parker top 0.2% of kind of funny viewers on my YouTube about 2025. Anyway, my Nintendo hot take is that people need to calm their expectations around
Starting point is 00:37:08 Mario. I've seen people talk about, you know, when's Mario within a year of D-Cat? BNanza. People always talk about nine years from Odyssey, but they don't talk about one year since Bonanza. It was the same team working on it, and I believe that D.K. was our Mario game for now. People devalue just because it doesn't have Mario in the title. One day we'll see the Red Man pop up in a trailer, and it'll be awesome, but I think we could still be a couple years away. Thanks. Love you guys.
Starting point is 00:37:34 That's awesome. That was the wrong one, but it's okay. We can talk about this first. I 100% agree. I don't think this is a hot take. Mario will come. And the thing is once Mario comes, he's not coming again. So it's like everybody that's like, where's duty Mario? Where's 3D Mario? What are you going to say when it comes out? You just say Mario?
Starting point is 00:37:54 I was going to say it. He said it with an Italian accent. I think it might actually be a Spanish accent. What's a 3D Mario? What is the 3D Mario? Who's the person you're imitating right now? Are they from Italy? Anytime I see it coming, I go, Wah-hoo.

Starting point is 00:42:24 I want to stick on the Mario conversation. Got it, got it, got it, got it. Just right before... It's fine. Hello, Kind of Funny Crew. My name is Jaylen. I'm calling in from Charlotte, North Carolina. and my Nintendo Direct Hot-Tick is that I don't actually think it's bad that we didn't get a 3D Mario.
Starting point is 00:42:45 I know it's almost been 10 years, but the fact that other IPs have been able to shine within, we're not missing Mario, he's always going to be around. I think it's great that Kirby is getting another chance to shine, you know, Donkey Kong launching on the Switch. I just think that it's not necessarily a bad thing that Mario was not there. We're going to get Mario. We're always going to have Mario.
Starting point is 00:43:13 Thanks. Bye. I'm of two minds with this. And they kind of contradict each other. The first one being that I do agree. Like, right now I'm not missing Mario, and I think the big reason is because D.K. Bonanza really scratched the Odyssey Itch. Like, you play DK Benanza,
Starting point is 00:43:31 and it feels like you're playing Mario Odyssey for Eleanor. and so you can tell that they had a lot of like a lot of the team that worked on if we worked on DK.Banza and so I'm not sitting here like oh man where's Mario it's been so long I agree in that sense the other
Starting point is 00:43:48 mind that I'm of that kind of contradicts it a little bit is that I wish and maybe this is the case I don't know who knows but like I wish we could have got maybe a 3D world style game because it's been so long since we had that and I think that kind of
Starting point is 00:44:03 fits the not getting the bonanza odyssey style of game right but getting still getting something that feels like a monumental Mario title either that or Mario Odyssey too I wish maybe in the last sometime in the last seven years it could have gotten that maybe like three to four years after the original Mario Odyssey because I don't know I feel like there's still more juice left in that and that would make the weight feel as long until the next Mario but yeah I'm not hungry for the new 3D Mario yeah I I totally agree with you. And I think the bigger thing is when you are a broader Nintendo fan,
Starting point is 00:44:39 it's like I like so much that we got Donkey Kong and Anzai. I never thought we'd get a 3D Donkey Kong platformer again. And I understand people not liking it as much as Odyssey for a variety of reasons, but specifically like how much or how little it is a true platformer compared to Odyssey. And that's fine. But it's like to your point, we're going to get a 3D Mario. I also like that we not too long ago got Mario Wonder. And I think that we need to.
Starting point is 00:45:03 And your point about the 3D world, Mario, I want that more than anything. But I think that has to be after the proper 3D Mario that we have in our heads because I think it'll just like upset people. And I think that we need to give the 3D world style a little bit more room to breathe and let people appreciate it more. But also it wasn't that long ago, we got that plus Bowser's Fury. So I think the switch ports of the Wii things or Wii U games,
Starting point is 00:45:27 I think kind of like to put the trajectory in kind of a slightly messed up spot. but what we don't want is too much Mario because then we get new Super Mario Bros. And when we're getting a new Super Mario Bros. It's less special. It's less special and everyone kind of starts to resent it and hate it. So it's like, I would much rather
Starting point is 00:45:46 3Di-Rour. The new 3D Maro's at best by and just looking at it. Like, all angry. I resent you. You know that would happen. You know that would happen fast. Like, I'll tell you what I want. I mentioned this.
Starting point is 00:45:58 I think when there were first rumors of returning to Witcher 3DLC, I would love Mario 3D World DLC or just an expansion onto that. I think that would be so cool. Again, you're going back to a much older game from the Wii U era, but I think it would just
Starting point is 00:46:16 be genius to go back to that and say, we're dropping this $20 thing with this many brand new levels. That game is like so it could be Mario Kart 8 if they just gave it the chance. I think it could have like this long,
Starting point is 00:46:32 all of your friends getting back together and going back to that silly Mario game where you have a lot of fun with friends. I would love to see something like that. Me too. Me too. I agree. Then we got... Let's go to 6-6-1, Kev.
Starting point is 00:46:50 No, I'm playing this one instead. Okay. Hey, what's up, guys? Big fan. This is Jonathan. I just wanted to say to the guy who sits on the right side of the screen made a lot of great points about that super family restaurant.
Starting point is 00:47:06 with the museum. I mean, more like super fucking boring restaurant. Yeah, but Andy, it's for a museum. Yeah, it's not the, it's not the museum of natural history or, or agriculture. It's a museum for fucking video games. Our video games, so let's be fun and stuff. It's called a super family restaurant for fuck's sake. It shouldn't just look like the game stop next door closed down and they have to store two of their statues and the Benihana. Anyways, thanks for taking my call. Hang up and listen. I can't tell you how good the delivery on all this is. What area code was that one from, Kev?
Starting point is 00:47:43 Damn, he was on a, he was on a handset. It was crazy. He's on, like, a dialogue. Oh, wow. He's on a landline. I can't pinpoint it, but something about his voice sounds almost like it's like, I don't know, edited. Hmm. I don't know what you mean?
Starting point is 00:47:57 He was it named Gronathan? I think that's what he said his name was. Interesting. Interesting. I mean, what do we think of the take, Blas? Great take. I think, I mean, at first I'll thank you for the. the compliments. I do, I completely
Starting point is 00:48:08 agree with that. I just don't think museum restaurants need to be like that done up. You know? It's not a theme park. It's a museum. You know what I mean? It's a different vibe. I do think the Zolda statue might be a bit much. It does stick out like a sore thumb, but it's temporary, right? I think
Starting point is 00:48:24 first off, great points, Gronathan, calling on his landline. But I would say, you know, either you go full out and make it look like a theme park or all of the wooded finishing that we were seeing. Get some cool, like, engra-
Starting point is 00:48:39 make it all, like, engraved, or put, like, the most classy art on the wall that's, like, still Mario-themed. But just, like, do it up to where it just doesn't look like you just rented out that fucking building. Great point, Granathan. Great point. Great point.
Starting point is 00:48:52 Ronathan. All right, Kev, take me to the 6-6-1. All right, I'm going to need a second. Man. How does one get named Granathan? Lack of imagination. What are you? Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:49:08 Hey, this is Ricky from Tucson, Arizona. I was just calling, you know, everything. I thought the directs were pretty good. I'm really, like, really excited for Zalda. But my thing is, where the heck is Pokemon Coliseum? It was originally announced in the original lineup for the NFO app when that came out, like before the Switch 2 came out. And they keep announcing and shadow dropping all these other releases.
Starting point is 00:49:35 I'm trying to play Pokemon Coliseum. the Pokemon Gale of Darkness, which they've already released Gale of Darkness onto the app without doing Pokemon Coliseum, what heck's going on with that? Thanks. Ricky, that's an excellent question. What's going on with that? WNDs. I don't know why Nintendo always does this. They show you a bunch of box arts. I think they give you a lot of them and then they're like, but one of the ones people are so hyped for, who the hell knows when it's going to come? We'll see. We'll see. The fact that it has been over a year, a year and a half. I feel crazy. Tim, I feel like somewhere in the back end of the infrastructure software, they set it to schedule, but to release, but they put the wrong date or the wrong year or whatever.
Starting point is 00:50:17 So it's just like, I feel like you'll get it when you get it. We're talking about ROMs, man. Yeah. We're talking about fucking ROMs. It's crazy. Like, I'm a big defender of the NSO, uh, the classics where especially the longer it goes on. There's just more and more and there's like less key things missing. Uh, but when we look at the GameCube's output, I'm just like, all right.
Starting point is 00:50:37 you can speed this one up just a little bit because it's crazy. Y'all I'm playing no fucking Pokemon Coliseum. Let's be real. Like, I think Ricky is. Ricky cares more about the fact that Nintendo said
Starting point is 00:50:51 they were going to do with something and they're not doing it. That's what we're really mad at. Yeah, but Coliseum is one of them ones though. Is it? Yeah, it is. Is it? Dude, you get two starters. Do you know who they are?
Starting point is 00:51:02 Esvian and Umbri-N. Yeah. Two of my faves. Okay. I don't have a GameCube, so I don't care. Oh, yeah. But I don't believe y'all care you. I do think we'll get it at some point, but I don't know when.
Starting point is 00:51:17 We got Star Fox Adventures. That's pretty sweet. We got DK64, so I don't care about anything. Now, you're like, okay, cool. Hey, we're square up. I got mine. I got mine. is for what we saw, or rather what we heard from the Ocarina of Time remake in the Zelda Direct.
Starting point is 00:51:47 So I think we may have been, or I feel spoiled on the music for the Final Fantasy 7 remake series. But I was hoping that the new music for the Aquarina of Time remake would be robust, dramatic, full orchestra, you know, Final Fantasy 7 remake style. Whereas from what we've heard from the gameplay snippets in the direct, the title screen music they put on the app and the bits and pieces of other gameplay that they had on like the Japanese website. I don't know if you've seen that stuff, but they sound like pretty basic new arrangements, just sort of one to one with the Nintendo 64 music, but with just like real instruments. So I'm not as impressed with it.
Starting point is 00:52:24 I'm a little disappointed about kind of how basic the new music is for the remake, but I'm curious about y'all's thoughts on it. Thanks. See ya. I fully understand what you're saying. And I think I mostly agree, but I, like you said, understand that they are going for one to one. not adding instruments. Like they are just taking the MIDI compositions and turning them into
Starting point is 00:52:46 orchestrated versions. But it's like, yeah, if we had trombone 0-03, we are going to just try to get a trombone to replace that as opposed to like add a whole bunch of shit to it. Because like I imagine like Garuda Valley, right? Like there's, uh, the version that was on the Zelda 25th, uh, orchestra thing where they, there's this epic ass intro and build up and like crazy drums going on. and it's just like bombastic. It's like, yeah, we're not going to get that. It's going to be a one-to-one version of the one from S-64, which like I'm with you in terms of listening and stuff.
Starting point is 00:53:20 I don't think it's going to be that interesting. I do think in terms of like the experience of playing O'Koreena and it feeling like it used to, I think it's kind of the right call. It's a similar thing that happened with Star Fox this year where for the most part, like they weren't adding flourishes and stuff. It was just a direct adaptation of it,
Starting point is 00:53:38 but the Star Fox soundtrack track was, I think, already very thrilling and had a lot, like, it fit perfectly. With Final Vasty7 remake, they took those songs and were just like, yeah, how can we add 10 key changes and like make everything just insanely hype at all moments? And it's just a different direction that Zelda's not going. I haven't gone back to watch that trailer with headphones, but yesterday out of nowhere, Tim just slacked me the Metroid ravenous trailer and said, listen watch this with headphones again.
Starting point is 00:54:11 There's one thing when we're up here when we're watching and we're all kind of getting psyched for this awesome looking video game. God damn. That soundtrack in the Metroed Ravenness trailer fucking rips, dude. Insane. It is so sick and it just got me even more excited for that experience. So shout out to like that soundtrack really,
Starting point is 00:54:29 really standing out to me. Yeah, but good call, Cal. I've been thinking about that myself. Let's move on to the one we missed, Kev, if that works for it is back it is about the multiple months I can tell you the number 7 or 6-9 4-6-9 4-6-9
Starting point is 00:54:48 4-6-9 I said damn we fine I mean we are fine 4-6-9 Hey guys is Don Pyrr Wolf from Texas I guess for myself less on the direct itself but I'm always I'm kind of curious if you guys had an answer to this
Starting point is 00:55:08 I'm always confused why Nintendo tend to stick to three to six months for the reveal timing, but then randomly a game like Fire Emblem or Xenoblade get revealed a year out, but their big titles like an o'creen of time, or supposedly the next 3D Mario are probably going to get revealed like three to six months before they get, they eventually come out. And I'm curious if you guys, why that is the reason, because it always confuses me because I feel like those are the bigger sellers
Starting point is 00:55:36 that get people to buy Switch to. Thank you all. great job on the concept I feel like you'd probably have the best answer for this Tim but I think it just comes down to like part WNDs while also just trying to fill out a show and maybe showcase a game
Starting point is 00:56:00 like I wonder if it is like region specific or they're like we need to really show this game off even more because I feel like in the past we would see Splatoon three, 12 times at various directs. I just don't I wonder if it's just like
Starting point is 00:56:16 an IP specific thing. We need to really, really push that IP specifically so maybe show it off a bit sooner. That would be my guess. I think it's more just Nintendo aren't where they want to be in terms of of being able to consistently. I think that
Starting point is 00:56:34 if it was up to them fully they would only be doing things every it's four months out and then we announce a and it comes out, we can like push it the way we want because we have a little bit more information because of our jobs, but just thinking about the preview cycle and review cycle for how Nintendo games work, it's pretty, there's a pattern. Like you can look at it and we can kind of guess when a review embargo for a game's going to be based on when the preview event is or when the game releases and all that stuff.
Starting point is 00:57:05 So it's like they think about this stuff a lot and they have a plan and it's always weird when something doesn't fit in that plan. And I think it's a similar thing to this where it's like, I don't know why they do that. And I don't know why there are weird exceptions, but I'm sure if it was up to them and they could fully control it, I don't think it would be going this way. And you might
Starting point is 00:57:24 be like, well, it is up to them. And it's like, well, it's not. It's up to Nintendo of Japan. Nintendo of America essentially has no control over anything. Like they can push and they can try, but like whatever Nintendo of Japan says goes. And it's just like, that's just how it works. So,
Starting point is 00:57:40 if somebody over there is like, yeah, well, I want this for whatever reason. I'm a big fan of Fire. And well, that's just what's going to happen. Yeah. You know, but I do think we're going to start to get, I think we've already seen more and more consistency. And I think it's only going to get more consistent as it seems like they have their heads wrapped around a switch two lineup that can be consistent. And maybe I'm wrong. Maybe we're going to hit a drought because we have every Nintendo generation, we always hit a drought.
Starting point is 00:58:07 There's always a moment where things start looking bad. But you look back to. like the N64 and my god that drought was like four years it was horrible what do you predict the next title to get the year treatment is like the year out plus treatment is
Starting point is 00:58:23 smash it's got to be smash yeah it should be yeah it should be smash yeah I think smash by design because they want to have the hype cycle and announce the characters got you able to like okay that going yeah I mean you go put Pikachu in that yeah I think he might make stuff yeah I mean that's
Starting point is 00:58:39 there's there's there's Man, I cannot wait for them to announce a new smash because there's so many questions. I know. Because like, you could play 16 players on one. It's a battle royale. Yeah, because like how much of the existing roster makes it into the next game is a big conversation. I think you have to keep the original eight. But also, do you?
Starting point is 00:58:59 I don't think you do. Do you? I don't think you do. Damn. Who's dispensable off that original? Who, yeah. Dispensible is. Original maybe not 12.
Starting point is 00:59:07 Well, actually. Original 12. Jiggly puff. is 12 yeah yeah because like are we looking at those four unlockable characters jigglypuff
Starting point is 00:59:14 captain falcon Luigi is Ness I don't know Jigley Pove has the motion anymore don't Luigi has to make it in though doesn't it's his brother
Starting point is 00:59:22 no wow welcome wow damn no nevizism like that if I swear to God if we get a new smash and then a year after a year later
Starting point is 00:59:30 if Sakurai Deere releases a trailer that's like oh we're releasing Luigi DLC I'm storming I'm storming I'm storming
Starting point is 00:59:38 I'm not saying I'm storming when Nintendo? Because I don't, I'm not. I'm storming a building, though. You will be in the streets with a sign above his head. Protect your yards. Crazy says Tim. Luigi absolutely has to. If we're talking about just getting eight characters in there, Luigi's not making the cut. Like, I'm saying, I'm saying getting a starting roster for a brand new smash game. I don't even say an amount of characters. Inkling's making it in. Over Luigi? Yeah. If you only have eight. Over Luigi? Is Luigi on the Nintendo store sign? Is Luigi walking to the store? His brother
Starting point is 01:00:09 is going to be in everything. I think Luigi is too important for this. I think he's telling you. I think he's too legacy I mean we had discussions at one point of
Starting point is 01:00:21 like is Luigi more popular than Link? Remember? It was all a meme a better player between Luigi and Lynch. It was all a meme of like the ear of Luigi how funny but then like you started
Starting point is 01:00:35 like looking at sales and said we're like actually he's got it. He's got it. He's got it. I just think he has such strong nepotism. It's like his brother is the guy. You can't go anywhere with that. His brother is Mario.
Starting point is 01:00:46 The reality is we're not going to get a Smash Brothers with only eight players. So it's a moot point that doesn't matter. Luigi will be there. I am saying, but if it was only eight players, we're not getting Luigi. Let's say 14. They're launching with 14 characters. It's like it's the year 2015 and you see Tim Getty's at a Best Buy. He's not there without Kevin Coella.
Starting point is 01:01:06 Mm-hmm. By his side. This needs to be a games cast of like, We're pitching the new smash. We're only getting 12 slots. Who's the modern 12 slots? I love this. I love this idea.
Starting point is 01:01:16 Because the original came out with 12 slots. What does that look like today? Because, yeah, like, I think the Swit kids need to get in over Ness. You know what I mean? Like, Pickman needs to get in over Captain Falcon. Yeah. Man, the captain, dude. I think Jigglypuff made...
Starting point is 01:01:31 Like, dishonoring the captain that way is just like... It's dishonoring the veterans. This is what I'll say. You get rid of Jigglypuff put in Evie. Oh, shit. But then do we have to talk about generation representation of Pokemon? See, I mean, there's a lot here going on, because is Sakurai involved or not? J-6 is...
Starting point is 01:01:49 It's time for Leon Kennedy. It's a different story. But if he's not, and it's more of just a Nintendo-made smash, like, look at the side of the Nintendo store. That's the lineup. Oh, shit, man. I need to open the Nintendo store right now. It's Luigi on it. Somebody tell me.
Starting point is 01:02:07 He's not. I'm pretty sure. Louise's not on Nintendo store? Yeah, but that's like when you're in proximity Because here's the thing, right? That sounded like your parents just told their child Luigi's not here. He did say, Louisa's on
Starting point is 01:02:19 the Nintendo store? But I think Luigi, because here's the thing, I think Luigi is competitive with Link. Look at this. But I think it's the fact that like his brother is Mario. So it's like, what are you going to do when your brother's Mark? Your brother is always going to be on the forefront. And so like, I think
Starting point is 01:02:35 So you're telling me if there's a limited amount of spots and only one of them could make it. It's going to be Mario and not But I think Luigi is more important than Link still. I think if Mario gets shot in the head, then links at the front of this line. You're telling me there's gonna be a Smash Brothers game with Mario Luigi no link. I mean, no. No, but that's it's because Mario. It's in the way that like, like, okay, we know Team Purple, Team Purple gets the vote for like most popular team or whatever.
Starting point is 01:03:02 And we know it's like, well, the audience loves Mike, but like the audience also loves Andy. But it's like when you're on the same team as Mike There's like a level of like Overshadowing that could happen because Mike is such a big personality But like that doesn't take away from the fact that everybody loves Andy also That's Luigi Everybody loves Luigi
Starting point is 01:03:19 But he's next to Mario and Mario's fucking Snowmike Mike So he's a loud, obnoxious icon figure It's like Greg Miller Yeah You know what I mean? You're not wrong We have a Tim Geddy's right here Everybody loves Tim Getty
Starting point is 01:03:33 Yeah I'm the fucking pickman Not enough people love me I'm gonna be fucking real Colin with that hot take But like look at this shit That's Smash Brothers right there Oh man That's Nintendo Smash Brothers
Starting point is 01:03:49 I mean yeah I'm not mad at And then Doggy Kong Luigi We have to have this game's cat And Samis I'm not saying Andy's Luigi And Kirby I'm just saying
Starting point is 01:04:00 Luigi is standing I'll think a tall one Luigi is standing next to such A big figure Yeah but like that doesn't take away from the fact that he's still Luigi think about Charlie Day in the movies you know how much we adored him yeah how much of a star he was I had another point that was actually to this I forgot oh I was gonna mention we got really passionate about we got really into the other conversation but to the whole three to six months thing which is the conversation that we're having I wonder how much of it is just the amount of information that you want to disseminate over time about a Fire Emblem or a Xenoblade. That's, yeah, good call.
Starting point is 01:04:38 Like, similar to Smash, right? Where, yeah, you want to have that marketing cycle. I think when you have such a large RPGs, you might need a few more Nintendo directs. There's a lot of variety. A lot of variety. A lot of different things to cover over the course of features. And maybe these games, a bit more niche.
Starting point is 01:04:53 Maybe you want to get them in front of people a little bit more because they are such big games. Yeah. I also think that the announcing things too early, like we've seen Nintendo literally feel shame over this. Like, Betrid Prime 4 scarred them. And you could tell. Like the way that in multiple directs we had to have, we didn't have to.
Starting point is 01:05:09 But they decided to have men stand in front of a camera and be like, I'm sorry, I've dishonored you. Like, metric pride four will come eventually. But like, you know, they really owned that shit. And I think that because of that and even with Zelda, right, with like, tears the kingdom of breath of wild. Like we got a much longer, like years and years long thing. It does create that obsession online of like every time this is direct. them kind of need to go out of the way, like, we're not talking about the Switch 2 at this time.
Starting point is 01:05:38 We're not talking about Zelda at this time, and I don't think they like that, you know. And I think that with certain games, like, I don't think that you're getting that with Firebomb or Zeno Blade, despite those franchises being massive for Nintendo. You just, I can't believe I'm saying this, but you're not bringing out the crazies, you know?
Starting point is 01:05:55 Like, I think the Zeno Blade audience, respectable group. Yeah, I mean, I think so. I never met, here's the thing, right? Never been a Zeno Blay fan. Be careful. I'm just saying like there are plenty of games that are franchises over time where it's like, oh, none of us are a fan of this and the fans will be obnoxious or like, you know,
Starting point is 01:06:14 me and Bear will try to preview a Shin Montgomery, Mensee and they get really uptight about it. The Zeno Blade fans, even though for the longest times like none of us really played or were into Zeno Blades, they've always been respectful about it. It's always just like, hey, y'all would really like it. Yeah, you're right. They've always been kind of respectable. It's a really pleasant bunch. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:06:33 That's our hot take AOL America Online says Just want to give a shout out to you all I love the current crew It kind of funny And somehow you people have all been Entertain me for so many years Thank you so much
Starting point is 01:06:45 Kabob says where are the DK and Pauline outfits In Mario Kart World What an excellent question How did they not do that? How was there not a Donkey Kong Mario Kart World drop The month the Bonanza came out? It's so bizarre because like
Starting point is 01:06:59 If I'm remembering correctly Those are the only two characters that didn't really get many other costumes, right? Yeah. So there's no reason. He had a couple, but Pauline was old at that point. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:07:10 I'm of the mind that if you have Donkey Kong in your game, and I know that they have roots, I know that they go back. But if you have Donkey Kong in your card game, then you should have everybody else. Okay. I can get with that. I didn't know where you're going.
Starting point is 01:07:26 Yeah, like I... You mean everybody like Nintendo, everybody? The Kong? No. No, I mean everybody else. Oh, no, no, no, no, no. And I know Blessing is specifically against this. I thought you were talking about the Kongs.
Starting point is 01:07:40 I disagree with that. D.K. is part of the family. If you want the other Kongs to be there, they don't show up without everybody else from all of the other games. Like, when you say other games, like, I want Link. Fuck that. I want, I want everybody there. I want everybody there. It's not Nintendo card.
Starting point is 01:07:59 It's Mario card. D.K. is part of the Mario family. But that's what I'm about it as a part of the part. That's what I'm saying. Did he's not? Did he's not? I think that they. Sometimes.
Starting point is 01:08:11 There's just a habit. God. Jesus. I think they go back far enough to where it's like, we don't remember you being part of the family. Mario was in a DK game. That's his lineage. It's just,
Starting point is 01:08:25 the first game Mario was in was called Donkey Kong. It's old news. It's old hat, you know. You can't have Donkey Kong in your game now. Everybody knows Donkey Kong now. the guy from the Donkey Kong games. No, he's in every Mario spin-off. Pauline's the mayor of New Donk City.
Starting point is 01:08:41 New Donk City. Where is it? Mario went there. Has Donkey Kong been in any other Mario game? Like every spinoff one? Like, they play at the Olympics or what? No, they're playing tennis. They're playing golf. They're playing cart. They're at the party? They're at the Mario party. Are you forgetting that D.K. is a character in all of these spinoffs?
Starting point is 01:09:04 I just assumed that everybody else is in those spin-offs, but yeah. No, no, it's just D.K. Yeah, you're right. You're right. No. Yeah, you're right. There's no shot. You forgot that D.K.'s in everything.
Starting point is 01:09:17 They also have a game called Mario versus Donkey Kong. I don't believe in. They're in the same universe. I think Cart should have everybody. I mean, D.K. Jr. was in Mario Kart 1. He's been there since day one. He's one of the eight characters. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:09:34 He's literally in the original Does he going over Luigi No If you think about it Like DK has more DK has more history with Mario than who Luigi does That's quite literally impossible
Starting point is 01:09:50 It's literally what happened We're born together Were that twins are they? Yeah they are Mario and Luigi Yeah shut the fuck up They're not twins They're born at the same time
Starting point is 01:10:00 No shit No shit's island There's a coincidence Come on. It's the whole plot. The stork was bringing him at the exact same time. Damn, D.K. is in all those sports games. It's crazy.
Starting point is 01:10:12 Mario, there's AI, so it made me take with a grain of salt. Mario and Luigi are roughly 24 and 26 years old. That's not what that says. 24 to 20. It's a wild episode. We're still in it. This, yeah, let me get through a couple more superchats. You know, that would have been the best end.
Starting point is 01:10:35 what an episode man Kyle LeBopp says we're at the point where leaks are greatly affecting the reaction true or false Doc Green reveal would have popped off if we didn't know about it already yeah dude it fucking sucks it's fun to talk about leaks it's fun to like it's fun to get excited about whatever
Starting point is 01:10:53 but it's just like yeah man I wish more than anything that these big announcements we did not know about now here's the thing though and this is all like you know Monday morning quarterback hindsight 2020 the trailer that they played after that game played them of Ocarina, if that was played after the, a young boy fucking, you know,
Starting point is 01:11:13 he's laying down in the little bed. Like if they played the big trailer that they played for us at the end of this, that would have been like, whoa, we would have been so stoked. But it was just like, you know. True. But we still would have been more stoked
Starting point is 01:11:29 if we didn't know at all. Of course. And it was fucking an ocarina of time remake. Of course. the way that I popped off for Link's Awakening remake when that was first shown off
Starting point is 01:11:41 I just can't believe this is a thing right now crazy yeah Darthen Zloh says make a little Waluigi deck builder please Nintendo my boy deserves a game
Starting point is 01:11:50 would that get you yeah the fucking twins that's crazy I told you this straight up calling them twins in Yoshi's Island I am man I never knew there are twins
Starting point is 01:12:02 you see a shot of their mom and dad at the end of Yoshi's Island. I never beat Yoshis Island. Well, I knew they were brothers. Yeah, I knew they were. Yeah, I knew they were, yeah, brothers. I knew that they would share their mom and dad, but yeah.
Starting point is 01:12:13 What are their parents' names? We saw. But you just see like their feet. It's just weird. It's off-put-up. My point earlier, though, was that we saw Mario and D.K. In the same game before we ever saw, before we even knew Mario had a brother. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:12:24 But I digress. I forget what we're talking about. D-Ks on all those games? D.K. is in all of them, bless? Who would have thought? The question of was D. Was D. Was D.
Starting point is 01:12:33 in any other Mario game is crazy. It's crazy. Well, I'm just thinking, I was thinking mainline. I was like a mainline. Was he, I don't think D.K. was in any mainline games. There's Easter eggs. There's a big monkey. I mean, there's for sure.
Starting point is 01:12:48 Easter eggs. New Donk City is a place. Yeah. Well, everybody, this has been an episode of the Kind of Funny Games cast. I hope you enjoyed it because I sure did. Let us know in the comments below what your hot takes for Nintendo are. Until next time, I love you all. Goodbye.
Starting point is 01:13:02 Thank you, Mr. Sandwich. Thank you.
