Hello gamers. Welcome to the Kind of Funny Games cast for Wednesday, July 10th,
2024. I'm the Perry Poppy, the nitro rifle. Andy Cortez. I'm joined by Souls Like Mike,
the best Souls gamer in the studio. I added that in. There's nothing written there in the
document about Souls like Mike, but I'm adding that. You're the best Souls gamer in the studio.
What month is it? July? It's about friendship. You know what I mean? Don't forget over on Patreon.
you can get two best friends sharing it up right now.
I mean, Andy, you're the best.
I miss you so much.
I was so close to responding to your tweet or you said, I miss you.
I was so close to saying, like, it's something that's like a little kind of too far.
And I was going to be like, I just need this hurricane last a little bit longer,
but it's very, very super insensitive because a lot of lives are impacted.
But I was like, you know, let me hold that back.
Let me just do a little reaction image of LeBron James looking very unfavorably at the camera.
pulled back. I've always been, I don't think bringing up tragedies and jokes is ever funny.
Thank you, Greg. You're right. You're right. We're also joined by the dadio, the Culeo daddyo. Greg Miller.
Hi, everybody. It's me, Greg. Greg's here to join us to talk about for the very first time. Thank you for joining us today.
Never been here before. I'm excited to be here. We're talking about a video game called Once Human, a game that, a game that Mike and Greg got started on that I am excited to join.
after this episode of the Gamescast
we're going to hop into the lab and play a little bit of that
once human. We're filming something in between
there. Oh.
We're doing a game showdown in between there.
It's going to be on a delay this week.
Film is something. It sounds real official.
I know. And then I said it. I'm like, well, I'm quiet. You know what I mean?
A lot of people going on.
Trump's seeing games.
I mean, aside from all just, you know, there's been a lot of video game news.
It's been a lot of world news. I'm back in the studio.
We're back and ready to rock. Everybody's back.
The hurricane delayed a little bit.
whole family got COVID at home.
I've done about 17 COVID tests.
The inside of my nasal cavities are just scraped to all hell from all these tests.
But I appreciate you doing that.
But I'm feeling great.
I'm feeling fantastic.
And I'm feeling the best, Mike, because I fix my golf swing.
Everybody, I fix my golf swing.
Thank you, TikTok.
It's all about tempo, Mike.
Thank you, thank you very.
You spit on that thing?
It's all about 10.
No, I didn't hop too on the golf club.
But I did grip it and rip it many times.
It's all about tempo, Greg.
It's three, it's, you hold the golf club grants.
One, two, three, one.
Holy shit. It was a time.
Yeah. I was seeking. I was seeking holes, Mike.
I was seeking all them holes.
Very, very excited.
You could come up to the golf tournament with me this weekend, Greg.
No, I'm good.
I know, I'm saying he could.
Oh, oh.
I have a big golf tournament, and he could come.
You participate?
No, I'm watching.
So, yeah, how does that help?
We could go play somewhere else, you know what I mean?
There's always a chance that a golf tournament,
somebody's going to spray an ankle.
They're going to go to the crowd.
Does anybody play golf?
Travis Kelsey, sprained an ankle.
Mike, I need you. I come ready.
Travis Kelsey will be there.
Big celebrity golf tournament in Lake Tahoe, every year.
Every year, I'm always like, I want to go because I want to meet the dudes from the
Levitard show.
But every year, it just sort of like, it sneaks up on you.
It sneaks up on you.

No.
Oh,
wow.
Okay.
But I'll tell you,
here's what I will tell you,
everybody.
I just start making my McDonald's order
in the middle of it and totally trail off on it.
I'm like,
I'm already,
I'm turning to the camera.
Like,
I'm still on camera.
And then Tim calls and we abruptly end.
Oh.
But it's like 20 minutes.
Oh,
okay.
So it's on an abrupt end.
You're on that's like,
but I mean,
I've been talking,
talking and then like,
oh, Tim's calling.
Got to go,
goodbye.
Gotcha, got you.
also another big news aside for me just fixing my golf swing
Mike destroyed Pontiff Sullivan last night apparently
Wow took it to him
Andy I don't know if you've heard but his weakness is he can't turn left
Jalen Brown of Dark Souls
A lot of people in the chat were like Mike just so you know this is the
kind of seen as the first official boss of Dark Souls 3
and I could see it right he's the most flashy
he's the eye catching one you see him
You get a video intro? No no video intro
just a badass.
He's on the other side of the church
slowly walking towards you.
Fum, he lights up both of his swords
and it's on and popping.
But once you find out he can't turn left,
you're like, oh, what a lame boss.
Yeah, pretty stupid.
Doesn't he remind, again,
now you understand the reference
whenever we watch that Expedition 33 trailer,
I was like, that looks like Ponce of Sullivan
got the two-colored sword.
And everybody was like, that looks like Rolana.
I'm like, well, hey,
now your soul's vet.
Now you know, now you know.
The best souls gamer in the office.
Barrett also beat Secura, everybody.
It's a big deal.
Less than a week.
Less than a week.
I asked Barrett, what were some of his favorite boss fights?
He won time the two apes.
That's a good fight.
That's a great fight.
That's a great fight.
Also, I was like, Barrett, demon hatred, took me three hours.
Worst boss I've ever encountered in my life.
And he was like, who's that?
I was like, oh, buddy, you're not done with the video game.
Go fight a bloodborne boss, a Dark Souls boss inside of Secura.
No, see, credits rolled, so I beat the game.
Done.
That's it.
Absolutely.
You know, you're totally right, Barry.
Because, like, I'll tell you what,
when I beat Dark Souls 1 for the first time,
and everybody in the chat starts going,
oh, man, oh, geez, wrong fucking decision.
Oh, nice.
Terrible decision, bro.
I'm like, what the fuck you all talking about?
They're like, Andy, if you walked 10 more steps,
you would have seen another thing you could have clicked on.
And I was like, man, fuck you all.
I just beat the game.
And, like, fuck me.
for sitting on the first little bonfire
that I see. I mean, and here's the other
I know I could have ended the game even
earlier by
turning off. Fucking up over my master
and, you know, siding with my dad.
Of course. But I just, I, I, I continued on.
Oh man, the owl. The owl. The owl.
That's a good, Greg, what a great game.
Who-hoo. What a? How many
looks does it take to get to the center?
It's your old. Greg, one day you will become
the owl and your son will become the
wolf. And there will be a moment where the wolf
looks at the owl and it might be
time to check you.
You know what I mean?
We'll see if you can check back, you know.
I'll check back.
I'm excited for that.
Here's my question.
Why owl and then wolf?
There's no coordination between like, because he's...
Owls go hoo-hoo!
And wolves go hooo.
Okay, okay.
Thank you for making our dreams of reality.
Patreon producers.

but we'll tell you about that later for now
let's start with topic of the show
And remember, super chatters, get your questions in later on for Greg and Mike,
along with the questions that I'll be asking them.
I'll be monitoring your super chats here on my little computer.
We're talking about once human.
Once Human is a game that Mike got to preview at Summer Games Fest.
We saw footage of it.
And I said, wow, this kind of looks like the division.
I've been looking for this.
It should be scratched for quite some time.
The Steam description is, once human is a multiplayer open, world survival.
Revival game said in a strange post-apocalyptic future.
Unite with friends to fight monstrous enemies.
Actually, can we, like, when we get this edited up, can we get like really, really intense music in the background in here?
Unite with friends to fight monstrous enemies.
Uncover secret plots.
Compete for resources and build your own territory.
Once you were merely human, now you have the power to remake the world.
Because we're metahumans now.
I don't know if that was the right energy you were looking for, Andy.
but I tried.
I liked it.
I was kind of hoping.
We are ready for this.
The game released on PC
and iOS is coming sometime.
Yeah.
Sometimes.
It's supposed to be coming.
I got super stoked when they said that
and you looked at the thing
and like, ah, we don't know when.
I'll tell you what else is going to iOS,
RCS chats.
So now whenever you send me a text
on my Android phone,
I can hold a little thing,
put a heart and you'll get the little heart animation.
That's huge.
It's huge.
It'll no longer say whenever you like one of my texts,
it'll no longer say,
Greg Miller liked this.
Just show me the little cute animation
But Android and iOS
We're getting closer and closer, man, that's big
That's big.
I'm being inside you real soon.
He could just buy an iPhone.
He could just be an iPhone.
But it likes the customizable
Ness of Ginger Britter
right now.
Wow, I don't even know that.
I know a lot of it.
I feel like 15 years
when I worked at Best Buy.
The developer of one team
in a Starry Studio,
publishers, NetEase.
And hey, everybody, this is not a sponsorship.
Yeah, I put this in your notes for you.
I got an email
today from the PR team.
Terribuno, what up?
Shout out to Terribuno.
I work in PR on this game.
And she was like, hey, here's a code that you can give to your,
it's a multi-use code to give to your viewers slash listeners that they could get for your
resources in the game.
I was like, okay.
So I'm going to read it out right now.
So make sure you stop your vehicles wherever you're driving.
And I think it's good for a month.
I don't know how many uses it got.
If you got stopped by a cop, just be like one second, officer.
Do the thing where you tap the-
Actually, officer, I'm going to need you to close yours because I don't want you to
type in this code before I can't.
how many redeems it gets. Yeah, here we go. Fox Trot, Charlie. I don't know what the letter N is.
Zeno. Oh, Zeno. I'm just going to say F-C-N-X-8, F-C-N-H-X-J-7. Once again, that's F-C-N-H-N-X-J-7.
Did my dyslexia possibly screw up any of those characters? Very possible. I don't know what that code is for.
Type it in. It gives you a bunch of resources. I, I,
I redeemed one yesterday, and it was just, yeah, you know, here's some crafting stuff or whatever.
It's nothing outrageous.
Lovely.
Well, Mike and Greg, tell me all about once human, because this is a game that looks fascinating.
And I love a little third-person shooter.
I love scavenging for wood.
I love getting them wood and the rocks and building little houses.
How do you like copper, egg knot?
Ingett.
No.
Oh, Ignaut.
Okay.
Mike, where would you kind of, if you were to rate this game, which isn't really,
probably shouldn't because you've only played like two hours, three hours.
We put a review in the title.
It's review so far.
That means, of course, we're going to tell you how many hours we've played, tell you where we're at thinking about it.
We won't be held to that score.
We're just letting you know where we're at.
I'm going to hold you that score.
I'd like to see you try.
I'm going to hold you.
Get me the baby whale, Barrett.
Let me set the stage for you, Andy Cortez.
I am eight hours in to one.
human me and Greg played about two and a half to three hours last yesterday afternoon.
And then I played about five hours.
I got lost in the Matrix last night.
All of a sudden it was 1.30.
And I was like, okay, maybe I should turn this off.
So that's some positive news for you where I didn't want to stop playing.
But Andy, I do think this is a game for you.
Greg, I apologize.
I pitched this to you.
And I think I did a poor job pitching it to you originally from my SDF coverage because I think there was a game for you.
Now I'm a little mixed on it.
Interesting.
I pitched it wrong.
Okay.
I pitched it as a.
tactical shooter survival crafting game.
And I think it is more of an MMRP with survival crafting elements to it.
And what I say by that is if you could just in your mind clear the mechanism,
think World of Warcraft MMO, where you're in a large server,
this offers about 2,000 people, I think they said, NSTF per server per world, right?
And you have this giant open world map that is kind of broken into pieces where they're level gated, right?
Hey, recommended level, 10 here, 25, 35, 45, 45 onward.
And in each of those areas, you'll have hub cities where you can go get missions.
You'll have little points of interest that will have side missions, things you can go grab to help crafting better.
And then, of course, you will level up your character in a third person shooter, right?
And so I think for you, Andy, when we talk about these crafting survival games, this game is up your alley.
Because there is a lot of third person shooting, a lot of clicking heads, which is fun.
I think for Greg, I pitched it more as the division,
and I think it's a little less division,
a little more survival crafting than originally when I first saw it.
And so I would call this a third-person shooter MMRP
with survival crafting elements would be my final one on that.
I'm going to give this.
Is that to his detriment?
No, no.
I really like this.
When we get into survival crafting games,
this is a survival crafting game that I would like to spend more time.
And this is going to be up towards near the top of a lot of my games that I would prefer in this genre, right?
And so I'm going to give this, you know, there's a piece of me that says six out of ten, okay.
There's a piece of me that says this is seven out of ten a good game.
And I do believe that this is a good game here, which what could be the making of more.
But it's still early on.
I've really enjoyed my time with this.
And Greg, that's just my pitch to start.
I want to get deeper into it.
But tell me, what did you think after your time?
Because I don't know, after we left three hours, I felt bad.
I was like, oh shit, I did a
disservice to Greg Pitts in this game.
I don't think no, because I think, you know,
I do have MMO tendencies and I do have,
even though I think the hardest of hardcore crafting games,
a rust has always been a turnoff to me.
This isn't that.
This is a approachable, have fun.
I think the game does such a great job of,
the mission says to craft a new workbench,
craft a piece of gear,
okay, I go there and I can't do it.
Why?
And then you hover over it.
It's like, oh, you don't have it.
of this. And then it even says, here's how you get it.
You know, go hunt animals, go do open world missions.
I'm like, that's a very nice touch that even I think a younger version of me that
wasn't, hadn't played so many of these would be like, oh, that's a nice way to onboard
me in a way that I think, rust or, you know, the, that's, you know, in my mind, the more
obtuse survival games, even maybe an original Minecraft before it was, I'm that old that I
remember when Minecraft originally came out and there wasn't the library books of documentation
on how to do everything, right?
Like, I think there's that, but I don't,
that isn't in this vein, go ahead.
And really quick,
that's what, Andy, you and I have played a lot of survival crafting games,
and that's what I like about this one in particular
and others similar to that.
It's like, there's a guiding kind of narrative,
but there's a guide to it, right?
There's a lot of survival crafting games
when we just jump in and there's nothing.
You just kind of figure it out and you're on your own task.
And then after our three to 10,
we get kind of bored because there's no really push
to go do anything past that.
That's what I like about this and games like grounded,
where it's like, oh,
there's a mission structure to this,
whether it be the missions of just guiding you
through the story, or you can go do side
events, oh, you can learn from that.
It does a good job at holding your hand and keeping
you moving, which is what I need
in these games. Go take on Benny Blanco,
the big polar bear in, what game was that
that we were playing? That was an Icarus.
Icarus. Man, I really want to go back to
Icarus. Well, back to this. This all
sounds really exciting.
Great, you have some more thoughts in it. Real quick, I just
want to ask
just to before we get going a little bit more into this once human video game,
would you say that it is more third person shooter or more survival crafting?
And depending on your interest, can you avoid one or the other more to say,
I'm just going to go do more missions.
I don't need to be building houses.
Yeah, I mean, I think it's the perfect blend of both.
It is a third person shooter that is the setting, the perspective that you see.
And it has guns.
You're going to do a lot of shooting because it's an open world.
MMO where like a lot of these missions are
go take on a world event which is a large
boss that you're going to shoot at and then eventually
kill. And you're seeing other random players out there.
Oh, so many players. So many players out. Wait until we get into that.
You're building out your little, everybody's got their own territory.
So you're building out your area. And every time you run through it, it'll be like,
you're in Snowbike Mike's territory. You're in Danny Cortez's territory.
You know, you have the names pop up that really show it. And you're already seeing
people building incredible insane things.
Oh, of course you did. Somebody I saw in the chat today in the in game chats and
was like, how are people already building a hotel?
You know what I mean?
Like there's that level of crazy things happening.
Yeah, I don't think it's a heavy survival element of like,
you have to eat now or you'll fall over and die like we've seen in others.
But they have the light survival of like drink water, eat food.
Now your health bar is full again.
And on the crafting side,
I don't think Greg has to build a mega mansion and have the super in-depth systems of,
okay, well, I have the furnace here, the stovetop here.
They all got to be doing this.
You can build, like Greg said, they guide you.
You build the very basics and you can keep playing.
I think right now,
I was to compare it. I think right now at launch, the survival mechanics and the crafting
mechanics are very much on par with where fall at 76 is right now. And I mean that as a positive
because we remember when fall at 76 launched and it was, oh, you didn't drink water so now
you're bleeding out and everybody's like, this, this isn't fun. I fucking hate this. This one has
hunger. It has thirst. But it is like, hey, you're really thirsty so your stamina's dropped
8% or you're really hungry so you're carrying weight's been dramatically decreased or whatever.
But even when that happened to me, number one, I wasn't.
overencumbered. And number two, I just went into my inventory and ate some of the spam I had.
It was like super easy. He popped it back up. And so there's those little nudges rather than making
them, I feel at least at this point backbreaking. I was just going to say, I think with a certain
different survival games, we've seen developers take two different routes, it seems, of how
the consumables you're eating or drinking or whatever affect you as the player. And we've seen
the way that Valheim does it, which I also think the game that,
came out in early access earlier this year in shrouded sort of took influences from where
you drink and eat stuff to buff your dude but you don't really ever feel like you're going
to at least in the game like in shrouded you don't feel like you're ever going to die of thirst
or die of starvation sure the food and stuff are all just supplemental things to like oh if you
eat the two meats now you have you know you could be eating three different things at the same time
but then the other way of doing things
are like what Icarus
was doing where
it's more of like no you got to eat
right now are these food
are these food things just providing benefits
or is it like you need to eat
stuff and drink stuff to no longer have the
detriments of what the game is
like yeah like I was saying I don't
think I think maybe as we get further
the detriments would be more noticeable but right now
I've been picking up everything I've been fucking
looting every iron deposit
or copper deposit I see every tree
I see, and I look today and I'm like 68% full on what I can carry.
So like I said, when being hungry decreased how much I could care, I didn't even notice there.
So I really don't, I think it's just a nice little nudge in the world you're doing to do stuff with what you're collecting and picking up and really going for it.
But I think that's where I'd want to jump to with the conversation because I haven't cut off several times.
I'm sorry.
Both of you.
I'm sorry.
In terms of what I think of this game, right?
And what I would talk about with this game, and for me, I'm just north now of five hours.
You know, we played the three here, and then I went home, installed it on the PC at home, sat down there, ultra-wide monitor.
I don't know what you fucking people talk about, why you like this.
It's the first game I've ever played in ultra-wide.
I got my huds all over here.
I'm like, why am I doing this?
I don't like ultra-wide.
Okay, good, thank you very much.
Anyways, I had it there, and I played there, and then first thing this morning, got here, got the little bit of work I needed done and ran into the stream room to get another 45 minutes under my belt.
What I'll say about it is this.
I think there is something here.
I don't think there's something here that's great,
but what I is here is the hooks and the, oh, oh, oh, you know what I mean?
The, I'm going to craft this thing and it wants me to do that thing.
So I craft that next thing.
And like you are popping basically the, they call them journeys,
but like the in-game achievements, the in-game signposts,
you're popping them left and right and feel it's giving you the,
oh, I did something.
Let's go get it.
Okay, cool.
And then, oh, there is a mission out this way.
Let's go get that and blah, blah.
lot like it has the hooks to keep you going and i enjoy that i would say and this is especially
fun after yesterday we did the you know the the you think that games a five games cast right
finishing off though what we think games are uh on the kind of funny review scale did you read mine
by the way we did uh i was missing one i'm sorry it's okay what i thought interesting uh from
yesterday's discussion was how i was getting into you know what a five is and what a four is and
what a six is and like, okay, so I think Immortals of Avium is a five, right?
But I think Ghostwire Tio is a four.
And I think Matt is in blah, blah, like right now with this one after five hours,
which is nothing, of course.
Last night when I was playing, I was very much like, this is a five out of five.
This is a mediocre one.
One out of ten.
Yeah, sorry, sorry.
It's so hard to switch back.
Great.
It's an amazing game.
This is better than it could possibly be.
I thought it was a 5.5 out of 10 last night, mediocre.
right and then getting in there again today and having a few more things pop and do a few more things
i would now say i'm right now leaning more towards a six it's okay like we're going up that way
i don't i don't see it getting a lot higher than that i don't see it hitting good and that would
be because of i think comparing it to the mmo is an interesting one which of course is going to sound
like a slight against an entire genre which i don't mean but it is that idea of like oh andy you're
this is i wrote down you're going to like this because you love
clicking heads, right? I would, my question to you is, though, is it ever fun? Like, for me,
like, it's, it's good. I mean, I'm shooting them in the head and I feel, oh, I got a headshot. I got
the things. I, you know, I hit the deer and now I'm getting the hide off of it or whatever,
but it's like, I have not found any of the combat engaging. Like, I have found no, like,
what they, I honestly, Barrett, if you could help me out with the B-roll, because you're
amazing. Show what you showed of that demo that looks so much like the division mixed with an R.
show that again and then jump,
if you don't mind having a second tab open,
jump to what we did yesterday.
Because I honestly think that demo there,
which may exist in the game as a boss battle or whatever,
that is a fucking lie.
I'm not seeing that whatsoever.
I'm seeing me run across this.
I think pretty a pretty,
but pretty empty open world as well,
where it's like, I see a bad guy here or there,
the deer or whatever.
I'm not like, it's not like I'm,
I'm on,
I'm, I'm,
I'm riding my motorcycle and I'm like worried about being overtaken or do I get off the motorcycle.
They got motorcycles in this game?
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, that's it.
And it's really cool.
Holy shit.
Holy shit.
They got a lot of cool shit in this game.
Huck,
are they doing any of them nine out of ten?
No, I don't think so.
But I think they're doing enough where you're like, oh, yeah, I like this, I like this part.
But it's like this whole demo, which looks fucking awesome and looks like the division colon
colon resident evil.
Like, I'm not seeing this camera work.
I'm not seeing this vibe.
I'm not seeing any of this.
I'm shooting a zombie occasionally.
I run to the blue dot.
I talk to a guy who isn't voice acted,
who I just skip through his dialogue and I skip through my unvoiced dialogue.
Then I run back out.
A true MMO experience.
Exactly.
I run in.
I collect the glowing ancient texts.
This guy needs on me.
He did this in the church last night.
I get them.
I drop them off and it's like I get the journey little thing of you've done the,
and it's like that's all good.
That's again hitting me with the endorphins of the serotonin.
Endorphins is the positive one, right?
Serotonin hits, yeah.
And it's like, okay, like, here you are on the motorcycle.
Like, immediately this doesn't look like what you did,
but when we get to a combat scenario,
you definitely don't see that.
You know, they gave you one big boss in the tut, the tutorial, right?
Where it was just staying there and shoot this guy.
And I'm like, all right, well, I'm sure I'll run into other bosses in this game.
No, I have not run into other people in this game that are cool,
that are like, visually cool, sure.
But challenging me to overthink this and do this, no.
So it is very much like I'm running around and I'm doing the damn thing and I'm collecting all the stuff.
And I, you know, I did it this morning wanting to put down one of the new things I unlocked and it was like, okay, I need to build my base bigger.
And it was like super easy, super intuitive.
You know, it showed me where I could put the floor or I couldn't put the floor.
Like, you know, how I hated fall at four's base building so much, right?
I'm trying to line up the walls and all this shit.
Like it's simple set it.
Forget it.
you again see exactly what you need and why you don't have it and what you should go do.
And so like, again, that part of the game gets me where I am of like, oh shit, okay, I used up all my charcoal making all the copper egg knots.
Now I need to get off and go do this.
And it's like, but I know there's trees right there and the trees are plentiful in the wood they give me and all this stuff.
So it's like, I don't think this is close to a great game, but I do think it's a compelling game.
I am looking forward to streaming more of it today.
I am hopeful that it comes to iOS eventually
or phones eventually
and I'm gonna be playing it
I think there might even sing more
of like the stuff I play where I'm like
this is doing so much
not doing any of it to that eight out of ten level
that maybe as a smaller game
on a smaller screen is something I'm not less
committing my full time and attention to
it would be more into but I am into it
is what I am saying and I am looking forward
to playing more and talking more.
Mike you and I played a lot of Remnant 2
Yeah.
And I think Remnant 2 is celebrated and I think Remnant 2 very highly of four.
It's really cool boss fights with their crazy cool telegraphed attacks and just like boss design in general, making you think, making you know, having creative moments like we fought that one boss where it's those cubes that just roll on the ground and you have to like hide in between the little cracks.
Like very, very creative stuff going on in Remnant 2 and even Remnant 1 as well.
is there anything on that level here?
No, nothing of that depth and detail, right?
Nothing that leads me to, oh, this is going to be a remnant or Dark Souls-esque boss.
I think more of like my mind switches to more of like World of Warcraft, right?
When you think of those early game bosses, like when you went out there and you had the first
mini-raid boss or dungeon boss, that's what I see in this, but at a lesser scale.
Because I do agree with Greg, I don't think there's anything so far in our first eight hours.
that has been, oh my God, this is like a raid boss in World Warcraft,
where we have to really think about what the positioning is,
what kind of buffs we should be using.
It is very much, here's a giant bullet sponge I'm going to shoot out.
But I have seen in this further on than Greg,
I think I have seen Rift bosses where you go in and you fight a boss,
and he has weak spots that you'll take down.
You'll shoot him.
Oh, now three little things have popped up that are spawned out, you know, extra enemies.
I shoot those things down.
then I can go back to him, right?
There are more than what we just saw in that.
But when we go to the, oh, man, is this boss like really super engaging and difficult or challenging or fun like you'd see in a remnant?
No, not yet, right?
And I don't think we will get to that.
That's my worry is they do things well to okay, but not good or great, right?
And so it will be interesting because this is one of those games.
We're only five and eight hours in, right?
You're going to have to go much further.
When I think of MMOs, I think you've got to go further than that.
And I'm seeing that after eight hours, right?
I've done now a really good, well-done side mission that is up there with a lot of these open world side missions that I've ever seen, which is fun and cool.
And I hope they do more of.
Trust me.
Which one was it?
It was really cool.
You go to a hospital.
Yeah.
And so.
Did it look like what we saw there in the fancy demo?
That fancy demo is definitely like some CGI mixed with that.
I would say I wish my Twitch video wasn't privated, right?
Because, like, you go in.
It's the generic 40-foot-tall flower monster.
But he is stomping on the ground and you see the big AOE attack come out and you have to jump over it.
Then keep shooting at him, right?
You're thinking a Velden Ring.
Then we went into another boss fight where he had a turret, right?
I shoot him down.
I can force grab his turret and I use it on him, right?
I go into another one where there's missiles all around me and there's a giant turret.
I got to kill 45 flying enemies in rapid succession like that, right?
And so it's very MMO style, but I don't think it's the best, right?
I think of a MMO like wild rift that was like, hey, we're going to elevate,
what you've seen in boss fights in these early
MMOs back in 2000s to
2010s and we're going to put like
big old red circles around you have to actively
move around the battlefield. I'm blinking a wild
rift. Well, you still do the very basic
MMO stuff like DC Universe Online or
World Warcraft which is one, two,
do the moves, right? Like that's how
it always look. This one just has a
shooter one, wild star.
Wild star. This one just has the shooter mechanic
of mindlessly shoot. Oh,
roll this way, mindlessly shoot,
roll that way, right? But I'm
hoping we'll see more, but like he said, it's okay and fine, not good, great, and beyond.
So it feels more like a DPS race in some of those moments.
Yeah, for sure.
You can probably take this and have one button on left click and just kind of get your way through it eventually as opposed to.
It's just that thing where I, and I'm challenged, we are early.
And I would say one of the criticisms I would give it.
Of course, the game's free to play.
I know we said at the very top just to bring it back up.
So, but I think it has like such a boring onboarding of just like, I don't.
know what the fuck's happened story, obviously, anymore.
You were talking about getting more into the sauce.
That's a better onboarding than what me, Andy, and Nick have played in some of these survival games.
I think that's the catch of like, when I bring up MMO, it feels much more MMO of like,
hey, here's the starting zone and you're going to do the five simple tasks so you can start learning it.
Or you have the other crafting games.
That I'm with you.
Nothing.
Figure it out, you know.
That and I don't mean onboarding in terms of the tut in terms of information.
It's great at that.
I agree with that.
I mean in terms of, hey,
Our game is exciting because that is what I mean.
I think this game doesn't get out of the gate.
We started and it was boring to watch and then it was boring to play
and then it was into a boring boss and then it finally starts opening up as you go.
But it's like I would even compare it to, you know,
and I'm not the MMO or the survival guy really, right?
But like I think DC's got a stronger opening.
That's an old-ass game.
I would toss it out from SGF this year of New World Eternum, right?
Where I thought that game I played and opened so strong.
I still, I'm like, I wish I was playing New World right now
on the console version that they've put out there
with all the bells and whistles,
whereas this one didn't,
but then again,
the more I play,
the more I am like,
oh shit,
okay,
cool.
And like,
you know,
I'm running around today
and I ran into somebody's beaver.
You've seen these guys?
They got this cartoon beaver out there,
collecting woods.
And I was like,
I got to get this fucker on my team.
So I go back,
I go back and I start investigating the thing
and I'm like,
oh, okay,
put it here.
And I get this Minecraft looking dude.
You got a dash of power world in here.
Exactly.
Oh,
there's a lot of things I'll tell you about this game.
But,
Yeah, I think that's the mix, Greg, of like, survival crafting games don't get good until our X, right?
Where all of a sudden you start off, you just have a basic cut, and I come by if we're playing arc,
and I got a giant T-Rex that I'm riding, you go, oh, well, I want to get to that point, right?
And so it's tough on these games of how do you get the players super interested right off the bat,
but also let them know, like, this doesn't get good until then, right?
And so it's a dance.
I think the winning formula for this, when I look at the survival crafting games, me and Andy have played,
is you have a very interesting world.
If you're looking for that post-dispopian,
like weird freaky monster world,
this has it, right?
As opposed to, I'm just smashing rocks,
there's an alligator, that's a wild boar.
I like the Scarlet Nexus and Silent Hill world
that we're seeing right now.
On top of that, I like this shooting
as opposed to just here's a spear that I'm poking, right?
I think there's a dance that we're playing of,
how do you get people interested in your game?
they have a list of like, here's some things that maybe you haven't seen or something fresh that we're doing.
You get a Raven to kind of float on like a little glider.
Yeah, from Zelda that we've seen so much.
Everybody's doing gliders nowadays.
Here's a motorcycle early on in the game that you don't have to like wait for, right?
You get that really early.
Exactly.
So we start the steam roll a little bit there.
But I will agree it's a tough one.
It's a weird one.
A lot of these MMOs to survival games, we're going to skip the story, right?
The stars have fallen.
humans have now turned into these monsters.
Guess what? You're a meta-human, so you didn't turn into the monster.
Here's a girl with a butterfly over her eye.
You got to protect her because people are coming because she knows the thing.
And we're looking to bring back human being.
I got to get my ignat.
I'll talk to you guys later.
Exactly.
Like,
I just made a copper axe.
This is a big deal for me.
See you.
50% of the people are voiced and not voice.
So you show up to one guy.
He's theatrical.
I would say 15.
15%.
And you're just immediately skip, skip, skip.
Then you go up to someone who's,
not voice and then immediately it sticks out to you like, well, they're not voice.
It's like, did it matter anyways?
You're just going to skip, skip, skip anyways, you know?
So it's a tough dance.
I'm excited to learn more about the beaver.
I'm excited to learn more about it.
It's adorable.
I'm excited to get more top five later on from So Mike, Mike.
But before we can do that, let's hear a word from our sponsors.

This episode is brought to you by A Better Paradise.
From the writers of the Red Dead Redemption and Grand Theft Auto series,
comes the new immersive audio fiction podcast, A Better Paradise,
Volume 1, and Aftermath.
Set in the near future, A Better Paradise tells the story of the ill-fated development
of an ambitious but addictive digital game world project
led by inventor and psychologist Dr. Mark Tyburn.
As the advanced software they developed began to deliver unexpected and disturbing results,
the team fell apart under strange circumstances and the project was abandoned.
The game world and the super intelligence within were discarded, left dormant and undiscovered.
Until now.
I listened to episode one on my way to work today, and the thing that stood out, of course,
are the performances, but then as an audio drama fan, it was the use of monologues.
There's a whole bunch of talking here as it sets up the world that is not that far from us in the timeline
and also not that far from us in the technology, which is disturbing, but I'm quite interested to see where it goes.
A Better Paradise is out now and available everywhere you get your podcasts.
Go listen today and don't forget to follow a better paradise on your platform of choice to make sure you never miss an episode.
We're back, everybody.
This is a free to play game.
And as we all know, a lot of free to play games, sometimes that's for the better or for the worst.
Talk to me about this game once humans monetization.
How are they doing it?
Is it pay to get super strong?
Is it battle passing?
Battle passing.
We got a battle pass.
a pass. We got a lot of cosmetics. How much was the
price for that one set you saw yesterday?
$30 for one set cosmetic. That
looks like Catwoman, but it's not Catwoman. We're not allowed
to say that, you know what I mean? But yeah,
is it one of those things where
you know, in the next three weeks
you're going to be running around in this game and it's not
going to look like the game it was
when it loves. If you watch the promo stuff,
it's very much like anime
K-pop stars are like voice
or like doing a lot of like the trailers they're doing.
So like I think it's going to get weird, right?
going to see Peley the banana? Maybe.
Is a girl going to be running around in a velociraptor outfit?
Yeah, for sure.
So it will get weird.
You got like a knit dinosaur you could be now.
Yeah.
Like when Ben puts on his Yoshi towel, it looks like that kind of thing.
That's adorable.
All right.
So just more,
more cosmetics you're saying?
Yeah, you're not buying inventory slots that I've seen so far.
So that's a positive.
It is very much a, here's a battle pass that was not wowing to me.
I scrolled all the way through it.
You unlock a.
gun on the free and on the premium.
So there's two things you can get.
They're giving you instead of like a lot of items.
So if we talk about like Halo, where it was giving you shoulder pads and helmets,
this isn't doing that.
They got a couple outfits, but it's a lot of these keys that you unlock these keys
in the premium battle pass.
Then you go to a different store page and you unlock the items that would be held
back by the battle pass keys that weren't all that appealing to me, right?
And so after the battle pass, it went into just generic outfits and costumes,
which I will say, we talked about the first descendant last week,
and I thought they were pretty on par with the normal pricing.
This is higher than that.
Every outfit is $20 to $30.
And I thought that was too high for any of this stuff, right?
We kind of talk about that 5, 10, 15 being the world you want to live in,
unless you're the valorance of the world.
But this one is very much Catwoman is currently selling for $30,
which is far too high for just a generic outfit,
even though it's called their super outfit, right?
It's a very nice outfit.
Is it their epic level?
Yeah, they're epic level stuff.
And then, like, after that, the rest of the outfits seemed to fall at about $20,
which all seemed too high to look like a cowboy, right?
I didn't like that.
So the monetization, nothing predatory where it's like, oh, you have to buy this to have a bigger house or have more inventory.
Nothing that I saw like that.
It's very much like, here's some cosmetics if you want to look cool.
Nothing that speeds up any of the systems that you may otherwise have to wait and grind for?
No, nothing that I've seen.
Yeah, I haven't waited deep enough in there.
but it was, yeah, I looked at it and it wasn't like I was looking at anything that stood out of,
okay, this is what it needs to be.
It seems to be pretty cosmetic.
Yeah.
They also do the thing where you have to buy two separate packages of coins to essentially buy something.
So all the prices are just perfectly not enough for the $20.
So then you have to add an extra $5.
It's not enough for the $10.
So you have to add another $4.
And it's like, just get the line.
You know what I mean?
It's one purchase, $20 or nothing.
Why do I have to do 25 and then have 200 coins that is essentially 99 cents really in the in-game economy left over?
You know, looking at the battle pass right here on this YouTube video, right,
and seeing, all right, there's a weapon sticker and the keys like you're talking about and some other currency.
Like, is any of it like, you know, crazy?
I don't think so, but I also don't know because you are inundated with shit in this game,
which again is a very MMO slash survival game thing.
But it is the thing of like, I'm very much playing it like I play all the opening hours of these things.
I don't need to worry about this.
I need to worry about it.
Where it's just like, oh, the star dusts just fall in.
They're like, I'm like, whatever, I don't fucking, you know what I mean?
Whatever.
Whatever.
I've got a thousand of these purple things.
I'm like, again, I just need fucking charcoal right now.
But that's great.
Put it in the bag.
Whatever it is, I'm going for it.
Strictly first or third person?
Because you're mentioning gun stickers.
I'm like, well, that may be useful.
Third person, but then you can aim down sites.
Okay.
Very nice.
It's very much a game that is seeing the current market of all these games and said, well, we can do that, right?
Everybody has in-game costumes.
Everybody has gun stickers.
everybody has gun charms like that.
It's just they looked at it.
It was like, we could do that as well.
And everybody's doing it now.
But here's some of the fun things I like, Andy, that I want to share with you.
Because I think there's some stuff for you and I that you'll really dig.
Yeah, what are the secret to light?
There's some cool stuff in here, right?
So these are the things I like, and I also have things that I don't like.
I do want to highlight the deviants, which are these cute little, I would equate them to pal world with what you saw, right?
Back at your base, you can capture these deviance within the world that will,
work for you inside of your base.
Mine goes out in mines or
does lumber for me. But also these
deviance can be combat oriented as well.
So you can put them in your backpack and take
them out with you. And so one deviant that I have
I can throw them out. Now think they're like
cute little monsters and animals, essentially what they look
like. I can throw out one of my deviants
and he'll make a cool goo wall
in front of me and I'll
hide behind the wall. Or you unlock
a butterfly at the beginning and the butterfly
does damage all around
the enemies, right? Does having one of these
deviance take away a slot from something else that maybe you could have better use, or is it
like the deviant slot? You can only have one deviant active. One combat deviance. And back at the
base, you can have them just working. As long as you have the power. So you unlock, and unlike
Powell World where it's like, hey, have eight active pals that are working at your base. This is,
you have to construct a deviant case, which you'll put them in, and then you can either
take them with you out to battle one at a time. Or if they're at the base, they just go work as long as
you have enough power for them to rest and relax and then come back and do their job.
And so I have about six deviants currently in cases back at my base right now,
all doing different things that I can like or not like, depending on what I want.
I wouldn't sure if this is one of those held diverse situations where you can take out the cool
mistle cluster or you could choose to have the little drone laser friend kind of beside you.
I wasn't sure if this is like an either or situation.
So I like that.
I think we learned through Power World on the survival crafting games.
it is cool to have that kind of base automation
doing stuff for you, right?
Being able to come back and go,
man, I'm sick of chopping wood.
Hey, shout out to Greg's Lil Debian
for chopping a thousand wood for me.
Or, hey, man, shout out to my little Beaver
who's gotten me 100 Rock, right?
Like, I like that, and it's cool that they added that into it.
And I also like getting wood.
Wow, that's really breaking the norm here.
I love that.
I highlighted many raids.
I think another cool one in Power World,
which we saw was the base can be raided at any moment.
And I know for the Powell World One, it was just a generic line of bad guys running in a line coming at you.
But this one is cool because you collect this kind of stardust material from bosses that you'll fight out in the world.
And you have to come back and refine it.
So you actually engage, you click on and activate the rate.
It's not just some random raid in the world.
And so it's very cool of like, I want to, I have four pieces of star darts that I need to refine right now.
And you can choose how much you want to go at each time.
And so I can say, hey, if I want to refine all four of these stardusts right now,
it will kick on a raid and it will show you the parameters of what the raid will be.
Three minutes, two waves, four special bosses at level 15.
And I weigh the options.
And it goes, recommended players, maybe you should have three teammates with you.
And I go, can I do that?
So I decided on doing one.
And it was like two minutes, wave-based, you'll have one special boss.
It'll all be level 15.
And so I clicked it on to see what happens.
and sure enough, the counter started
and big bosses started showing up, right?
I had mini bad guys.
I had one cool flying boss flying around,
and I was protecting my base freaking out,
dying, trying to do that.
And I like that, I like that on a survival crafting game,
that kind of fun that you can have.
Now, what does the start us do?
I'm not quite sure because I haven't gotten past that.
We'll see what's happening on that one.
After that, I really like the building.
I mean, Andy, we've seen a lot of survival crafting games.
I like what I'm seeing on the building side
of what you're seeing.
the world looks like. It's very interesting when we talk about this MMO and Greg talking about
like plots and different players. When you first come out of the tutorial, you fly down and kind of
see the opening area, it's a very interesting site to see everyone putting down their plots.
It's not, oh, I'm in a shared world with only eight of my friends and occasionally you see
their houses. You see hundreds of homes, just everywhere. And it can be, hey, Greg, built a mansion.
Oh, Andy put up just a floor and two walls and just one.
I don't do the walls.
I just have this floor and all my shit on it.
So there's this fun, weird vibe.
Is there weather that affects?
There's weather, but it doesn't affect anything.
Yeah, it's not like Icarus with that weather.
The toxic rage.
I do like the building.
I like the materials that you can get.
I like that they have furniture.
Like there is a level of building here that is like, oh, they looked at other crafting games.
And they're like, we can do that and we can elevate that a little bit more.
And I appreciate that.
You can build a garage.
Repair your cars.
You can upgrade your motorcycle as well with different engines, tires,
exhaust to make it go faster, make it be stronger, stuff like that.
You have more inside of that.
So I like the building.
Real quick, how do they account for you're hopping into this big open world?
How do they account for like where Greg's plot would be like if you're in his world or if
you're co-opping?
Do they just replace?
We've been struggling with this answer.
We couldn't play together yesterday even though we got into the same world and we were on top
of each other and we were teamed up and we saw each other's icons.
Me and Mike couldn't exist in the same plane for some reason.
Yeah, we haven't snapped into the same world yet.
We're on the same server, but we haven't gotten it because now the server gets spread
into world one, two, three, four, five, six different instances.
Okay.
And so we haven't been in the same instance, but I'm watching people online, they're all
in the same instance.
So I'm sure today we'll figure it out.
But like when we're talking about plots of land, I mean, there's someone right next door
to me.
There's two people on the opposite side.
There's plots everywhere.
And I guess like what I was asking you, what if Greg built his house?
house right next door to Mike, but somebody else is there.
And so the answer there is we don't fully know because Mike jumped into my game,
didn't have his thing you said, right?
You did just put it down at a different part,
even though we weren't in the same area or instance or whatever.
But then what I've noticed in mind now logging on and coming back multiple times
is that I still have the same neighbors.
So I think it is that when we do figure this out and get Mike transported into our world
via the towers or whatever.
And he's on the right fucking whatever dimension.
We'll go find a spot.
put ourselves out together and have it.
But right now I'm just in a lovely community of people.
Lovely community.
Lots of deer out there.
Well, I want to put a pin in something real quick before we get back to Mike's like
like and didn't like list.
Mike, will weapons be in your like or dislike list?
Oh, weapons will be on the like list right now.
Okay, love that.
I am currently crafting.
I have a sniper rifle, Andy.
You can add attachments to the sniper rifle to elevate it from a tier one to tier two,
tier three, tier four, tier five.
Yeah, how little jean on these weapons?
I mean, you have to craft it.
It's pretty interesting.
It's pretty cool of like you see it even on the armor as well.
You can craft it that will have different numbers similar to destiny of like, hey, this is 146 to tier one.
Okay.
It's going to be 168 at this level.
It's pretty cool like that, but you have to craft it.
And I like the crafting system of you can easily see it.
You go, you hover over it and it says, hey, to get to this, you have to do X, Y, and Z.
And there's three things that you have to have enough to craft it, which is pretty cool on that one.
I like the polish.
But I also don't like the polish.
Oh.
I like the polish in the performance and visual.
The game looks good, Andy.
It runs well. There's not much stuttering.
The game's not crashing on me.
This is something we talked about yesterday, right?
Where it was like we had been planning on doing this stream.
We finally looked into it.
Oh, shit, it doesn't go to 2 p.m.
Good luck.
Yeah, exactly.
If server's going to melt, this will be a disaster, blah, blah.
We've all been here before.
And so there was a queued wait time for us to both get in.
Then we got in and didn't crash, didn't chug, didn't go crazy.
I love it.
And then I like the visuals.
It looks like an upgraded PubG.
I think it's the easiest way to say.
Great way to put it.
really looks like, but it looks good, right? It does look good. Very colorful. The polish I don't like
is the audio. There's just like a weird sound mix here that it doesn't punch well. And then all of a sudden
you're on a motorcycle, you barely hear the motorcycle, but the music is ultra loud. You have,
they got all these radio stations. Odd dialogue choices where people are voiced and it's like
the worst voice acting ever to this guy trying his hardest in voice acting to now that character's
not voiced at all and it's just reading. It's a weird blend. So,
is like up and down on the polish level of the game.
But I will say for the survival crafting early access games that we've seen in the past,
this is much more polished than what we've jumped into,
which is a nice positive on that one.
That's crazy because me and Baird are available for voice acting.
So just let us know.
Anytime.
Call them up, please.
Faircourtney.com for my voice demo real.
Nice trifle.com to buy my merch.
I will say, uh, cornhub.com to see me.
Oh, from page.
Every day.
I got the banner on top.
I was talking about a side quest.
I did encounter one really well-done side quest.
So I hope there's more of it.
I tried to, it has, when I say the MMO open world RPG,
it is like a Ubisoft game.
It's like World Warcraft where you have the giant map
and you look at and you zoom out and there's seven little different icons
for you to go run into and see what it is, right?
There's points of interest which are large towns and settlements where it's like,
hey, there's seven different chests you can open up.
If you kill five enemies in here, find the mystery crates.
We're going to give you more rewards.
Or, hey, there's a blue icon here, which means it's a side quest.
And I found a really cool side quest involving a guy and a girl and a hospital.
And it actually turned out to be fun and engaging.
Then there's the open rift, which is like your world event where I showed up.
I pressed the button and all of a sudden the world kind of shrouds in fog.
And I'm either fighting the boss or I'm killing 40 guys as quick as possible.
Like I liked that in this world.
It's not just, hey, go chop down that tree or maybe bang into a bear occasionally.
It's like, oh, there's things to do and keep me occupied and moving.
So I really did like that a lot.
Things I don't like, not a clean system to team up.
We got to have a cleaner system to team up.
And I know people in the chat and comments will be like, oh, well, we figured it out.
It's like, no, it's got to be as simple as possible.
It's got to be, I invite Andy.
We're in the world.
That's how these games have to go.
It's not as clean as that, unfortunately.
Snap system on building.
Finnekey.
sometimes doesn't fit well, but that's any of these games whenever I play them.
The polish I talked about.
The clutter.
The houses are insane.
Okay, it's very cool to have everybody's plots.
But after a while, you're like, this is just, and wait until you see it.
There's thousands of homes.
There's thousands of plots.
It's everywhere.
It's crazy.
It's half exciting, half kind of lame.
Does it break immersion in some way where you're just like, why does that house look
like that?
No, it's just more of the fact that it feels like, I mean, where was Ed Norton's
the Incredible Hulk
when he runs through that
village and the houses
are on top of each other
even the Fast and the Furious
like Rio de Janeiro?
Yeah,
yeah, yeah, yeah.
With the God.
Yeah, I guess.
But it's like all the houses
are just,
so it's like this,
all these ramshackle houses all over there.
So it's like,
it feels weird like a vacation setting,
but then also there's these weird monsters,
but we're not really worried about the monsters,
but I also don't feel,
we're all metas,
I guess.
I don't know.
I don't mind it,
but I think it gives a very unique look to the game.
The villa vibe.
Yeah, it's very interesting.
They're just shanty towns everywhere.
You know what I mean?
It's funny.
I remember when the rock was just running on that,
on the buildings going after.
I was so insane.
It's crazy.
And then, as Greg said,
the world is kind of empty.
It's this weird blend, right?
Of, like, how much of this should have just enemies mindlessly walking around?
How many deer should be in here?
There's that kind of like slider where it's like overpopulated,
underpopulated.
And right now it's like a little bit on the underpopulated side.
I'd like to see it go up.
But, I mean,
you're supposed to feel open and vast.
And I think it's a weird blend of like,
there's just people's plots are all over the place.
And you're like, well, it's kind of ruin in the vista.
And maybe there should be like enemies here or some deer.
But like there's four of Greg's homes just kind of mindlessly put in the middle of nowhere.
So it's a weird blend right now.
Are you,
it doesn't feel quite full?
Are you struggling with the issue that some survival games have where it's like,
ah, man, I need to kill these damn deer, but they're just not spawning.
I remember when we first played Power World,
where we're like, dude, I cannot find these little freaking crab enemies or whatever to get this one item to then progress the mission.
Yes. I mean, I'm sure there's an update. Like we haven't, and correct me of it wrong, but we haven't gone into the skill tree, which is.
It is vast. And I love that about it. Where you, and you're getting the ciphers or whatever, the tokens you're using to upgrade and choose your paths.
But it's what, there's like four, maybe five different ones underneath. And like, you're going into them and going after different things.
I have a drone.
I don't know if you have a drone,
but I went in to get the drone
and I'm doing this thing.
And I was like, oh, well,
I'll get the stove,
but then I need the meat dehydrator.
And it's like all these,
it's like,
but it's very fascinating.
Like,
I don't have sniper rifles
because I'm not investing in that way,
right?
Like I'm sticking with my pistols,
but I'm doing advanced.
There's all this stuff going on.
So maybe in there there is a,
hey, here's,
you know,
a locator for deer.
But for me,
it was like,
I need hides.
It says to go hunt.
Yesterday I ran around
and was just shooting deer with my pistol.
and I was like trying to find him, I'd find him, I'd do it, I'd go to them, they'd, none of them had hides.
So I was like, oh, I'm doing something wrong.
Today I ran into a rabbit and I shot him, no, no hide.
I'm like, well, I finally Googled it and somebody mentioned bow and arrow.
And I was like, oh, I could see.
The bullet destroys the high.
I could see that being the thing.
So then it was like before we, when you, when you stopped in to say, hey,
and give me a present, because you're very nice, bring me a present back from vacation.
I didn't get my getting, I'm sorry.
I went to the Lego store and I saw a little Superman minifig.
I was like, I got to get that for Greg.
But couldn't buy it with my credit card because the Wi-Fi was down.
The spectrum was down everywhere.
So my brother gave me a little 20 spots.
Wow.
What a nice brother.
Anyways, I was bow and arrowing deer.
But then it was what you're talking about,
whereas the place where I hunted the deer last night has now become overpopulated
with people's plots of land.
Oh, no.
Running through vacation homes.
I'm like, there was more deer here yesterday, but there's one.
That's the thing.
So they don't have dedicated zones for just living?
No, you can put it anywhere you want.
Oh, that's weird as shit.
It's wild. It's exciting.
And that's the thing like today, today I went to, I'm sure you've done it, but like this bridge that ends and there's a guy there giving you a side mission.
There's like a wall of purple.
And I was like, oh, okay.
But I'm like, he's a different side mission.
There's already, I went down.
I go underneath this like derrick ship there.
I go through the fucking veil.
I'm like, this is kind of cool.
Come up.
This is the guy who's camped up there.
Like, oh, hey, I didn't realize this.
Hey, how you doing?
You live here.
I'm going over there.
I get this.
Oh, I don't know if I love that.
That's kind of odd.
It's, um, the resource.
horses, wood, rock, all that kind of stuff, come back at a pretty solid pace.
Actually, faster than normal, so it's nice, right?
I never felt like I'm waiting on the trees to respawn in my area.
I never felt like, oh, man, I just did that.
Now I have to, I should go do a whole 30-minute side quest before I come back to get the rocks.
They're coming back at a pace.
The deers, animals like that, need to be cranked up a little bit.
I'm running into them because I'm exploring a lot, but, like, they should be,
there should be higher amounts of them
at a more frequent pace. But when it comes
to trees and rocks and that kind of
material, that's happening
a lot, which is nice. I'm sure all that feedback
is something they can just... Of course.
You know, make that slider grow up
and... I mean, yes, and I
found it super impressive that yesterday when we
were live, right? This thing went live at 2 p.m.
We were live playing it.
Somebody, when we were in the very early, like,
hey, be careful with what you do. Because once you make
the character, you can't delete it and you can't have multiple
characters. And we're like, oh, that's
fucking dumb. You can't have multiple characters. By the time I got home and logged in,
I had a message from the dev, everybody, just world mail with a gift for, you know, and they're like,
hey, we've heard you. When we've pushed that forward, you can now make multiple characters.
Here's the reason why we didn't initially do it and what we wanted to do, but it's up right now.
I'm like, damn, that's responsive. That's cool and impressive that you're answering that quickly.
That's lovely. And on Skill Tree, just to keep going, because it is very meaty. It reminds you of an
arc, a power world as well. But like, there's four different tabs.
you can do construction like me and Chris Anka.
You can get into the weapons stuff.
You can get into cooking.
You can get when we talk weapons,
he's got a drone is right.
Like there is pages of stuff to get in.
And the cool part about this is,
unlike when we make our own private service
and we kind of crank that XP boost up,
you are leveling quickly on this.
Thanks to the journal,
which is like those mini challenges of,
hey, chop down Ted and Wood, right?
Oh, there's a challenge complete.
You get XP for that.
You are leveling at a pace
where it feels like I'm always unlocking
stuff and I'm never oh I'm struggling to unlock and then on top of that they also have this weird
golden tier system at the top of your skill page where you click on it and you kind of specialize
into different things so you'll have we'll call it 10 different golden medallions you can
unlock throughout your levels and your first one you choose from four I did hey I want to be able
to get more resources when I chop wood so I get 10% boost on chopping wood my other options were like
do 10% more damage if you're low on health oh you're you're low on health oh you're
you move faster on your motorcycle.
Like they give you those and then you click one,
it goes in there. You unlock the next one at level
10. It gives you another four to choose
from. It goes up there, right? So there's like
what do you call, what do we call though?
It's just kind of like the background passives.
You have these passive abilities that you're
choosing from and being a little more unique
than you and I just sharing the same
skill tree of, you know, hey, you grab the stove.
I'll grab the dehumidifier. Okay, cool. Let's do that.
Dehumidifier. That's how Acrest was. We were very much like
I know you're all stuffy. I'll get
this D-HMA. Yeah, so, but to the core of that, right, like one of the things, you know,
five hours in, not even 24 hours in the game being live that I feel is a lot of hope for
where this game's going to be and where it's going to go. Because again, like there's art,
it already has something. It has, it has the hook. It has the reason to come back and do these
different things. I'd be interested to see when they do the big 1.0 update or whatever it's
going to be or what they add as they continue on with it. Yeah, if we're ramping this down,
I would say this, Andy.
I didn't say we had to ramp it down.
I'm just saying.
Well, I mean, I would love to hear Mike's top five coming up very soon.
I don't know why.
I mean, I said something.
I was trying to contribute to the show.
I think for me, Andy, you're playing defense against this show right now.
Andy, for me, this is a survival crafting game that I want to play more of.
I think we've played a lot of these where I find the world interesting or I enjoy it.
And then I want to get out of it.
This is one where I'm like, oh, man, I like walked away going, this is the one I would like to spend more time.
And I think I have in my top five, I have the five that I want to spend the time in.
this is creeping up into that area.
This is the survival crafting game that has it, right?
I like the MMO RPG elements.
I like the third person shooting.
I like the setting and the tone.
I like the building and the crafting.
I like this world where if it's me and my friends gathered around on a Friday night,
we're looking for a game to play over the weekend and we go,
okay, let's get into a survival crafting game and we all list out the top three that we have.
This is going to be in my top three.
This will be the one where I'm like,
I want to play this because I like,
what it has to offer, a guiding narrative, something that's pushing us and keeping us active,
something that allows us to build and craft and have fun, but also at the same time,
go out and shoot and explore this cool world.
It's big and massive so we can get lost in it.
I never felt like this where it's like, Andy, go get me 50 lumber.
I'm done building the mansion.
I have nothing to do now.
This one felt like, oh, now I have more stuff to do.
And that's what I need in this kind of game.
Lovely.
I hope you all are looking forward to once human.
It's available now.
It's free to play.
PC.
iOS is coming soon.
I wonder how that's going to work.
That's kind of a fascinating thing.
Whether that's going to be like,
hey,
you probably need a backbone for this.
I mean,
there's no controller support in this game now,
which is weird then to bring it to the phone.
How the hell are you going to do like building and stuff like that?
With a survival crafting game,
that's where the full keyboard really gets put to its full use
with how you feel.
keyboard inputs where you're like,
what's that button again? You got to, you're like, now you're
over at the I for inventory. Then you're
clicking K, I got
build mode. They got a cool build mode.
I don't know if you saw it, but they got the free cam
build mode where you come out of your
body and you can fly around your
house and put things wherever you want.
Yo, that's nice. Instead of me
awkwardly being like, Andy, build me a force structure. I can
climb up here so I can build this roof.
I can just come out of my body and build wherever.
That was killer. That's a great job on that part.
Powell this year?
How world was this year?
Holy shit. Is it in my top 10?
No fucking way. God.
No, it wasn't. It's 100% going to be in my top.
Yeah, it was January. Well, here's the thing
is that he'll show me his top 10 in like the end of November
and Powell World will be on that list. But then when he sends in his final vote,
Powell World won't be on that list. I'd be number one.
Who knows how switch is. Well, speaking of tops,
that's not. You're going to tell us your top five, right?
I'm going to give you the Snowbike Mike official top five
survival crafting games.
Andy Cortez,
we've spent a lot of time
in survival crafting games.
You, me,
Nick, Chris Anka, Kevin,
Maddock, JD,
Wash you.
We play these games.
We like spending time together
and getting lost in these.
And I've played a fair amount
and I want to give you
the Snowbike Mike official top five.
Let's hear number five, Mike.
This isn't,
oh, these are the best.
These are what Mike likes the most.
So if I don't have one on the list
and you want to recommend it to me,
do it in the comments.
We're always looking for some.
So,
so super.
Before we get into the list,
Andy,
I want to give you the goat and then some OLIs.
The goat doesn't make the top five because it is the best.
And everybody knows the goat.
It's Minecraft is the goat.
Minecraft is the goat.
It's above all else.
It's in its own separate universe, all right?
Then some OLLIs for you, Andy.
Outside looking in, the raft.
The raft survival game is a lot of fun.
I like what the raft does where it puts you out on the open water
and it constricts you a little more than having a giant plot of land to build off of.
You have to get really creative.
and I've got to get creative on building out small
and then building on top vertically
and where you're going to put things.
I love going out having sharks attack,
going to abandoned islands, going out there,
grabbing some coconuts coming back and building off of that.
The raft, a lot of fun with friends.
Another O-L-I, the forest and sons of the forests, okay?
Sons of the forest, the forest and sons of the forest.
Yes, that's one and two.
Sons of the forest is the follow-up.
Really good.
I like the narrative of crash landing on an island.
Oh, snap, Timmy's been taken.
We got to go find Timmy.
Some freaky-diki stuff happens.
Super awesome.
Love that.
Going forward, State of the K-2.
We talk about State of the K.
Staten-Lake doesn't have as much building as I wanted to,
but I'm hoping for State of K-3 to be great.
It's got a great base in Stadle-K-2.
I'm looking for more.
That's why you're on the outside looking in.
Snowbike Mike's official top five.
At number five, grounded from Obsidian.
and grounded from obsidian, shrinking you down
in a honey I shrunk this kid's situation.
Out in the garden.
Love that.
They did a great job with a narrative that kept you progressing.
I love the world.
I love what you're building.
Great job.
Number four, Icarus, because I love the dynamic weather.
That is a cool game where weather plays a factor from high winds blowing over your house.
Lightning coming down, wildfires.
Some of the best memories we've ever had in game.
Shout out to Mark Ruffalo, the Buffalo.
Yeah.
I mean, being able to tame.
animals and then use them to ride or carry stuff.
Great job on that.
Number three, released this year, PAL World.
Whoa.
The ultimate dream of mine.
This is what the Pokemon company should do.
Take notes.
This is what an old head Pokemon fan wants.
I want an open world Pokemon experience.
I love what they did with that.
Having the pals be resource management at your base,
being able to build stuff for you.
Another positive about this game, once human,
is when you craft, you don't have to hold the button and stand there.
can literally just craft it, walk away, it gives you a timer.
You can keep moving and build other things.
That's what I loved about.
Powell World is my pals would build for me.
Didn't love that I had to hold F and just build bullets over in time.
That's crazy.
Number two, one of the goats, subnotica.
Wow.
If you haven't played Subnotica, go get lost than that.
My dream would be to be able to play a multiplayer.
I know people in the comments and chat will say, oh, there's a mod for that.
It's not, you know, it's not official from the game.
This game is begging for a freaking official co-op.
on, man. Beautiful, underwater world that is just stunning, vibrant, chill, awesome.
Scary.
With a little twist, I'm not going to spoil it, but a little twist that gets you.
And it's a whole lot of fun.
Subnotica's incredible.
And number one, everybody knows it.
It's arc survival evolved.
Did we know that?
The idea of being able to tame and ride a dinosaur from a t-reactal to a T-Rex running
around with the velociraptors coming through the high bush, and you're like, oh, no,
here they go.
You're fighting for your life.
you're killing dodo birds just to eat the chicken.
Great time.
You're looking at a fellow worldly right here, Greg.
This is the biggest Jurassic World fan there is.
Not Park.
Just the world movies.
Ladies and gentlemen, that is your official snow bike, Mike.
Top five survival crafting games.
You think this one,
once you could crack the end of there?
This, for me, will start to crack in there
and probably go above grounded in Icarus.
I think this will nestle in on the four spot
because it's a lot of fun and it has exactly what I'm looking for from this.
If you told me that you could give me Remnant 2 combat with survival crafting,
I would be like, wow, this is going to be a contender.
But a little bit kind of bummed out overall about your all's thoughts on how the combat is.
We'll see how the combat goes for me later on when we get to stream that over here on
Twitch.com slash Kind of Funny Games.
And YouTube.com slash Kind of Funny Games.
We'll be hopping into that world after we record a little bit offstream here in a second.
but gentlemen ladies envies all across the world thank you so much for watching this episode of the
kind of funny games cast we appreciate all of y'all support and we'll see you back tomorrow with
kind of funny games daily see you later gamers
