For the week of August 31st,
what is up every?
Kevin,
what button is wrong.
I'm really sorry.
I was just a little bit twice.
And if I hit it again, it would stop it.
During the intro, just like,
five seconds.
Oh, right now.
I thought the pre-rolls 15 seconds and somehow it wasn't.
Okay.
Welcome to the kind of funny games guys for September 1st, 2026.
I am one of your hosts, Andy Cortez, alongside a couple of orbitals friends.
It's just us, dude.
They have recorded quite a gem for you all.
I can't wait for everybody to see it.
Greg Miller and Tim Geddes.
What did you all do this whole week?
So many things, Andy.
We orbited?
Yeah.
We bonded.
Mm-hmm.
We made some jokes, maybe about you at 3 a.m.
what I'm doing with your body.
Don't want to do about it.
If you watch deep enough into Let's Play, you'll find out.
Oh, you will never guess what it does.
We're not going to say it here.
No, you got to record our entire playthrough playing orbitals.
So that will be going up at tomorrow.
Yeah.
Just like our split fiction, uh, let's play where Tim and I reviewed that boat,
recorded our entire run.
We recorded our entire orbitals play through tomorrow at debuts.
it'll go up as your usual stream, but it'll only be on YouTube,
because I don't know if it's a premiere we're doing, right?
Yeah, it's YouTube premiere over there.
So you can watch all of it right there.
And yeah, somewhere in there, he,
Greg, finally revealed what he would do if he was able to possess your body.
Oh, oh, possess my body.
Oh, yeah, which is better than other options.
Yeah, I thought he was just saying, like,
what I'm going to do with your body is.
Yeah, yeah.
To be fair, but he's in control.
It wasn't clear until it was clear.
Okay.
Well, you know how Tim is.
He's fucking sexually perverted, so he took it to a weird place.
Of course.
I just want to kind of marry that.
You kept it normal.
Now Andy, you phrased your intro very interestingly.
Hey.
What Tim and I got up to this week.
Why don't you try introducing me again, all right?
Oh, Jesus Christ.
Why don't you try introducing me again?
The kind of funny game showdown.
Four time.
Four Peter.
Back to back to back to back.
Greg Miller.
Thank you so much, everybody.
If you missed Games Daily,
story number three was very important.
I'm happy to report
that I'm better than Jesus.
Jesus number one game showdown four times back to back to back to bed.
And so what I'm doing is paying it forward to you
and I'm going on the team Orange World Tour
inviting you to come hang out with me.
I'm at Pax this Friday doing the keynote.
I'm interviewing this co-founder in CPO at Riot Games.
Mark Merrill, of course, that's 11 a.m.
kicks it off in the main theater.
If you were like,
I don't play a ride game,
it doesn't matter.
You can come just cheer for Team Orange.
All interview long,
when I'm like,
oh, that's interesting.
I don't hear the background.
Or!
Or!
So I'm like,
oh, Mark,
I got to say it.
Team Orange is going to be great.
Or is you glad?
Get a little t-shirt with that on it.
Then guess what?
One week later,
Saturday,
September 12th,
Blizcon,
me, Mike,
Zanth are hosting a panel there
530 p.m.
On Saturday.
Come to be a part of that.
And then,
this is breaking news.
Since I had,
the world's who are on games daily.
I have been reminded I have a different date for you.
Then of course, oh, I'm sorry, the top 100, not to be forgotten.
Top 100 here in San Francisco, October 12th through the 16th.
Every day we will end the live program with a parade around the parking lot.
Bring your orange shirts and have fun.
And then the one I'm adding right now, November 14th, New York City.
If you're going to Rogers wedding, I'll be there.
Come get a drink with a champ.
Chad, it's just like, I
I could see the little
flapping heads. I just, I was hoping
Among Us was at least a 10-pointer, because I just needed time
to think of the words, man.
What's a Frenchlob game? Among us. The amount of times I've gone back and watched the
Indy, no. I just needed time to get there.
You know, it's just so hard for me to find the words and to find the time.
You should have had four points, Doc, for not understanding the rules of, like,
give out the stars, though. That was like pulling teeth.
No, no, no, no.
That was pulling T.
Both of you should have had negative 70 cars.
I did too.
That was so poorly presented.
It was totally fine.
I totally got it.
I don't believe you.
I totally got it.
I don't believe you.
I was looking at you in the eyes.
I was explaining it to Greg.
I know,
but like you explained it right.
But that's just because you were just guessing.
No.
You were trying to guess what they were trying to say.
No.
I knew.
No.
I knew it.
No.
Andy,
remind me how many times have you been back to back to back to back to back game showdown champion?
As much as Jesus.
So that's how it is.
everybody. There's Greg Miller
and everybody else who's ever walk the planet
including Jesus Christ and Badsworth. Yeah, it's
crazy. It's crazy. It's just
hard for me to remember stuff, man. I know. I feel bad
for you. Like, I saw the fucking... When he fucking brought
the gozer thing again, I was like, oh, fuck.
You know what I mean? He had a question
about Gozer that had gotten me earlier.
How do you spell it? How do you spell it in the
manual? What is it? Blah. Gotcha. I was
also ready for the stupid sucker punch game. I can never
a rocket robot on wheels. It's not stupid.
I also blame myself for
a lot of things.
course.
But mainly for doing the whole half and half thing with Mike.
Because that just meant that I wasn't around for so many of the questions.
And maybe I would have remembered a couple of them, you know?
Shout out to me for remembering that Mike said three in the Battletoads question.
Yeah, you deserve it.
I do remember that.
But shout out to Bless for also, like, for Greg getting the unreal question.
Because I've gotten that wrong.
I had gotten that question.
Who wants to be a millionaire?
And I said Decima, thinking it was a Greg Miller question by then it turned out.
Oh, okay.
That's how I knew it.
Otherwise, I wouldn't have known it.
So,
still from software question out there once in a while, you know?
Doro says, we need an NYC meetup.
Again, if you are going to Roger's wedding on November 14th, that will be the meetup.
Maybe I'll talk to Roger.
Maybe if we add a Patreon tier for like $5,000, you can come to Roger.
People are going to see a bunch of people in orange shirts here in San Francisco in October,
just like Halloween.
Like, what's going on here?
It's going to be very, very odd.
I got a great idea.
Joey, of course, dragging her heels on making the shirt.
You know what I mean?
She's always been a team purple fan.
but I'm thinking about getting some custom sweatshirts
for myself and I got some good ideas.
I just won't let you know
Joey dragging her heels.
The amount, I'm on the merch slack channel.
I don't know if you guys are on the one
that the design channel that I get to see.
It's upsetting how many goddamn team orange designs I've been seeing.
There's no slacking going on.
In fact, they need to calm down.
We don't need this many team orange designs, okay?
Hey man, when you start winning,
you can get your own shirt, you know what I mean?
If you're watching live, be a part of the show
by super chatting on YouTube.com.
You don't see Jesus in here asking for a shirt from us, all right?
He knows what he did.
Couldn't win the game.
Greg Good.

So thank you to Carl Jacobs, Omega Buster, Delaney the Psalm twining, and lax nomad.
It's just so many times when I answer an answer correctly, it's because it just hit me in the last moment.
And that's why I stall so long.
because it's just, you know.
That's okay.
Dude,
when you see me get that Mario Party one?
No.
On this episode.
Oh,
where the dice question.
And I'm like,
it's going to be an easy one.
And I,
like,
if I would have said what I,
if I would,
it's three seconds later,
I had Mario Party.
I needed a 10er.
Just to give me a 10th
so I could just have time to think,
man.
I see those little fucking repo and lethal company guys.
Goddance.
Couldn't think of them.
For now,
let's begin with topic of the show.
Tots,
Tots,
Tots, Tots, Tons.
Orbitals is a puzzle,
adventure game played from a third person perspective.
Story follows Maki and Omura.
Two space explorers who must work together to prevent a space station from being destroyed
by a deadly storm.
It's a haze-like, everybody.
What's that mean?
It looks like a haze-like game.
Hazelight.
We said haze-like so much that when I'm trying to say haze-like,
of course you know, haze-light.
Yeah, this is a late, this is sort of like a late anime visual vibe.
but it plays a lot like it takes two or split fiction.
It looks absolutely delightful.
And Greg and Tim got to play through the whole goddamn thing.
Because, of course, you can't play alone.
This is one of the many games.
Like we're talking about the Hayslight games,
like it takes too,
like you're talking about split fiction,
where you have to have someone to play with.
And there is the buddy pass.
There is all that jazz.
But just to be clear.
This is exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2,
developed by Shape Farm,
published by Kepler Interactive,
fully out on September 3rd.
at an 83 on Open Critic and 81 on Metacritic.
$40. $40. $40. Yeah. What the heck up.
Yeah, and VEO available in a ton of different languages. We got English, Japanese, simplified
Chinese, French, Spanish, Latin American, Spanish, German, Brazilian, Portuguese.
Beautiful. So the sharing feature means that one person can buy and the other person plays
through the cloud or whatever that sort of functionality is. Greg Miller, I'd like to start
with you.
You're right. Okay. Great. How long did it take you?
and Tim to both beat
this video game Orbitals
and obviously you played on a Nintendo Switch 2
Where would you put it on the kind of funny score?
I'm very excited for everybody to look at this tomorrow
When this goes up
Because of like
At the finale of this game
Tim and I are debating if the game's actually ending
Because it was like we were very much ready for our right
We've done the McGuffin quest
Now the thing's going to do this
The real thing will be revealed
It will be off on what will be the final
quest, but there'll be more to this game.
And it wasn't. So the point that we locked
in yesterday, we told our wives, we told our
families, and our children's like, we're
going to be here late today. So we're locking in, we might be here.
Like, we were really planning for like a
10 o'clock, whatever it needed to be. Whatever it needed
to be. For our final one. And it ended up being like
30 minutes. No way.
We rolled credits that according to the YouTube video that you have of everything
compiled, five hours and 50 minutes.
Wow. Five hours and five zero minutes to beat orbitals. Yeah.
And that's with us being big dummies.
There's plenty of times like, wait, what are you doing and what's going on?
And I think that comes into my critiques of the game overall in terms of like not knowing where
each other was and not understanding what you were seeing and that's that.
But we'll get to all that.
Five hours and 50 minutes, yeah, which I'm not, I don't know how people feel and it is $40
and it is, you know, whatever.
I'm not against that.
My main problem with it takes to and with split fiction were that I felt they were long in
the tooth.
I think they do get to those things of when Bless came over years ago and played a little bit of It Takes 2 with me.
It was like, oh, that was a lot of fun.
And we never went back to it, right?
Because, of course, he was there for one night.
And we did like two hours of it.
And that's like such a small amount of the game.
So the fact that this one is short, I appreciate about it.
But I think the pacing is off in terms of what it's doing.
And I think there's a lot to talk about here in terms of what it sets out to do, what it accomplishes X, Y, and Z.
And for me personally, I think it's going to,
I was thinking about this in the shower
and on the way here to work of like,
this is an interesting review.
And I think even if you would look back at
it takes, or split fiction,
which we reviewed together,
it was an interesting review for me too as well.
Because like,
what brings me to video games is story, right?
Like, I love good game mechanics,
obviously in good game feel,
but I'm there for narrative
and stuff like that.
And by design,
these games where you're sitting on the couch
with your friend playing a game
aren't that.
They can give you a story, obviously,
but you just wanted to get you from point A to point B
because you're going to be talking about Andy at 3 in the morning
and what he's doing in his room when Greg takes control of his body, right?
And you're going to kiss him.
Like, these are the things that are going to be happening while you do.
So I'm a bit not lost in this game,
but as you both know from in review,
what happens every time we review a superhero film?
I am there, beat for beat for beat.
And then we get to the action and I go,
and then a bunch of stuff happened.
Somebody punched.
So when I've been reflecting on orbitals,
I've been kind of struggling to pull examples of things that I really had fun doing.
Because we had a lot of fun playing this period, point blank.
But yesterday's final play through, we had a conversation of like,
so are you excited?
Tim was like, are you excited to be back?
And I was like, because the last time we had played, we both said, like,
how long was that session?
The first one?
The first one, I don't know.
Kevin could tell you.
He's got the thing over there, scrub through.
I don't know.
It was hours.
and then we broke for a part of the day
and then we came back later in the day.
And the conversation was,
oh man,
we've been thinking about this all day.
We wanted to get back to this.
And then to have a huge break
to get to this final portion,
Tim had asked me,
like, were you thinking about getting back to?
I was like,
not in the same way.
Like, I wasn't like I have to get here
because I don't feel like
Orbital's story is yanking me through
and pulling me through
and making me go,
oh, I can't wait to see what's next.
I can't wait to see what's next.
It is the you're sitting with your friend
and having fun.
It is that you're playing
a gorgeous game.
Just absolutely gorgeous.
If you are an audio listener and you don't know this game,
you've got to go check it out.
Because yes, it is an anime cartoon that you then split screen and play.
And that's so good and so charming and so great.
But it didn't have the narrative meat on the bones,
especially when we finished,
where we were going back and forth about,
well, what about that?
This could have been explained better.
Like, I feel a bit, eh, with this game.
But they almost kind of rushed it near the end or something.
Well, throughout, in terms of what they were doing.
Like, so I'm rambling.
Thank you for letting me.
No, you got to, though.
You got to.
For the score right now where I would tell you,
I feel like it's a 6-5 okay,
but I want to give it a 7 because I had fun doing it.
But I also just don't,
this is a game that when we close off this review,
I just don't think I'm going to think about again.
However, when Orville's 2 gets announced,
I'll be excited because I hope they learn
from all the critiques they're getting and stuff like that,
where it's just like, I'm a bit lost.
It's a quality game, period.
If you have friends who you want to play this with,
fuck yeah, go for it.
Like, I wouldn't stop you,
but I also wouldn't tell you you have to play this in the same way.
It takes two.
I was like, you got to play this.
And even split fiction where I was like,
you know, the narrative sucks,
but the game playing,
what you're doing it's super cool.
Tim had a pretty visceral reaction to that 65.
Yeah.
I would like to know where you're at with orbitals, Tim.
The visceral reaction is I can't believe
that Greg Miller's giving this game a 6.5.
because I'm also giving this game a 6.5.
Wow.
And I also,
I also want so bad to give it a seven
because of how much they achieve
with the presentation and look
and it's not just like, oh,
it's a playable anime game.
It's like, oh, they really nailed that stuff.
The visual look, the sound design,
the music itself,
the performances,
the writing, the everything about it,
I am so damn impressed with.
Like, as just a cool thing,
it is incredibly cool.
And there are so many times, dozens of times throughout our five and a half hours where Greg and I are like, oh, whoa.
And there's sometimes, there's one moment in particular that we literally scream.
Like we're so hyped about what's happening.
I meant to get it up beforehand.
I'm going to, tomorrow's, you know, again, you can watch the entire thing.
There won't be supposed to here, obviously.
I want to go and just grab our picture and picture screen grab of our faces when this game fucking goes insane.
Because we're like, oh my God, this is so, so cool.
So there are a ton of incredibly cool moments throughout this.
And I think the start of this game is very strong.
Yes.
Like we were having such a good time.
And it was like, oh, wow, so many of the problems that I've had with,
it takes two in split fiction are solved here.
I think the biggest one being that for the first time,
these two protagonists get along with each other.
And I think that something that's very big that I've never been able to, like,
put into words until now that I've had an issue with the previous ones,
is that I'm sitting here with somebody that I love.
And it's like, no matter what I do.
But we have to be antagonistic.
But we're antagonistic as characters.
And it's like, it's not that we can't, you fucking get what I'm saying.
Yeah.
It always just feels a little bit weird.
And I liked it here.
It's like, we got two best friends hanging out.
And because of that, their quips and their writing and the way that they interact with each other and the animations, like, it's just a joy.
And like, it feels so fun and it makes us have more fun, right?
But then as we keep going through the story, sorry, even in the beginning, it's like, I'm like, oh, cool.
I think that it had a stronger pitch for what's going on, what we're doing,
and I think that the moment to moment gameplay of doing this co-op puzzle and then getting
in a ship to get to the next area, it felt way more cohesive than the previous games have.
And we keep saying previous games, it's obviously a totally different thing.
But those games were very much like, we're doing this gimmick now.
We're doing this gimmick now.
And new world, new look, new whatever.
What's cool about this one is it's one coherent, cohesive game.
So in the early moments, I was like, wow, this is really.
really cool and I think easier to kind of like latch on to and be incredibly excited to come back to that novelty wore off way faster than I expected it to and some of the early puzzles and just not even puzzles but just what you're doing what he's doing what I'm doing I think that it's really cool that throughout the game it's very weapon based and you can kind of switch which weapons you're doing so if you're not enjoying your role you can trade back and forth the other games tend to assign this character does this this character does that so I think that's really cool but
we ended up finding kind of like roles we preferred more.
Yeah.
And there was just so many great moments early on that I'm like, oh, wow,
they're going to keep leveling this up.
This is going to be keeping great.
And I kind of feel like both from the story perspective and then more so the gameplay
perspective,
I feel like the gameplay and what they're asking us to do got less and less interesting
and more and more less great feeling.
I think overall I started getting more frustrated than not when it came to game
feel and camera control and I know what the game's trying to get me to do but just it doesn't feel
quite like it should and I know what it should feel like yeah um there was a thing I think talking
platforming yes that is definitely part of it where you have a jump and then you have this air dash and there's
these multiple things where I would be lifting platforms for tim to jump to them or vice versa in some
regards and you would jump and you know exactly what you do and then you'd air dash and you'd air dash off the
side or not just just short just long and it's like this doesn't feel like it's my fault you know
what I mean like I feel like I should be able to get where I want to go and not have this thing
and to Tim's point like in our final section yesterday when we returned I think one of the reasons
we were like were you Jones into get back to this the section we were in that turned out to be like
the last major multiple stage section of what you're doing felt like busy work and it was like
in particular one of the challenges they had us doing was like moving like a tank but not even
having tank controls where it was like, oh, this isn't enjoyable.
And we're just trying to get the thing to get the McGuffin to go on to the thing.
Yeah.
And I think that is like kind of the biggest problem is that there is this,
the maybe most sizable section of the game is the least enjoyable section of it.
And then once you get through that, a lot of the stuff towards the end is very,
very cool and very interesting.
But even within that, there'd be like the high points every once in a while within a longer
section that I'm like, oh, man, I wanted more of, like, there's a lot of camera changing
where you're like in a ship.
Yeah.
And you're like, oh, this is cool.
Oh, this is cool.
And then you get back to the other stuff.
And it just doesn't control quite the way you want.
To their credit, like when you die, the checkpoint anything is really good.
And it's very quick to just get right back and try it again.
So it doesn't really get in your way that way.
But there are a lot of debts and a lot of moments where it's like, man, like, I know that was on me.
But like, it was also just kind of like me not loving how it feels.
But yeah, that was tough.
But I think the biggest problem throughout the game for me, especially as we get late.
into the bigger sections is there's no marker on where your partner is.
Yes.
And this game,
I think,
really needs that because there's a lot of puzzles where you're just trying to figure
things out and everything looks so beautiful and well presented,
but a lot of it is like,
I think so artistically done that it's kind of hard to see like,
all right,
I'm looking at his screen and I get that he's kind of looking at this,
you know,
coral or opening thing over here.
But like there's a lot of them and I don't know,
Where is he?
It was very hard to find.
Back to it of like, you know,
the style of the game is amazing.
I love what we're doing.
But yeah, when you'd get into the nuts and bolts stuff like that,
it was shocking of how hard this game was to orient ourselves.
Where I don't remember that in split fiction at all slash nearly as much.
Where it was just like, Tim would look at my screen and have no idea what he was looking at.
And I would be like, okay, well, no, hold on.
Spin it that way.
You're over.
Where are you?
I'm trying to get.
Oh, you're on the platform.
I thought I was trying to get to.
But it isn't, like you have this beautiful right here, tighten the discharge rod.
you know, icon, right?
There's no iconography later on in the game
when you're into these more complicated things
and your friend is somewhere else.
So, yeah, it seems like maybe
they prioritize, like, things to just look cool
as opposed to, like, give you these visual indicators
of where you're at in the world.
So there's these, like, these red and blue things, right?
Yeah, you see on the side, Kevin,
you want to roll back just a second.
Oh.
Well, you see, yeah, they're all over the place.
On the right side of the screen,
with the boy character, you see the blue point thing
over there showing you where she is, but that's not in
the red one. In the 3D space, it just doesn't
feel right. It's just, it's not,
I'm like, okay, but where is he?
You know what I mean? Like, there's a lot of those
moments. Yeah, when you spin the camera, and this is,
obviously, we're inside of a tunnel here. It's very easy to see each other.
When you spin the camera, that disappears. And so when it is that, I'm looking
at a big screen, and we are far away, we've separated, and I know you're
somewhere out there, and I'm trying to figure it out. Because again,
remember, on your side of the screen, this is a very simple early
puzzle. You are doing more.
complex stuff. You are worrying about like,
well, there's a laser. I'm doing this. I'm jumping
there. What are you doing? Where are you doing?
That was the other thing of like, right now, the specific thing I'm talking about.
It would be that like, I have no
earthly idea why we were capturing the things we were capturing.
Like the game, like, what was going on here? Why were we doing that?
And it's like, it's not a feeling of us. The story just did it, but I don't
understand why they did it. It was a weird thing. There's a couple moments too
where there'd be story beats that were out of sequence, where
like they would say lines of dialogue and like make a
or a reference to something that we already did,
but we didn't do it yet.
Oh.
And then the next section,
we're like,
oh,
this is what they were joking about.
I think.
Yeah,
again,
that was specifically the like,
I don't know that because there's this like a free roam.
You have an or you can do it in any or you can tackle it in the order.
You can tackle it.
Okay.
So we think that doesn't get in the way.
Again,
it's like,
I do think that like there's the charm of this game.
Like me given a 6.5 like it's okay.
It's like I'd still recommend a lot of people play this.
Like there's so much going for it.
Clearly,
look at it.
Like if this looks fun to you,
it is. It's just not the best thing ever.
And I think like, an okay game is okay.
As a platformer, as a co-op platform, all of that.
It's just like, I don't think that this is really that high in terms of quality.
But that's fine because I do think that there is the charm itself is off the charts.
I think that some of the story beats are unearned.
Like as you get towards the end, they really try to pull some emotional beats.
And it's just like a lot of stuff we've seen before.
And they're very cool.
It's cool.
I would love for that to resonate with me.
Because again, we were not expecting it to stop here.
Yeah, exactly.
And it's a thing where it's like, you could see, oh,
they could have got there in a way that like hit harder for us.
It still hit.
It just was kind of like a...

You're richer than you think.
You're just reading what happened and you're like,
okay, cool. Yeah, A, B, and then C, I get this.
But it could have been like, oh, this is actually really hitting me.
But there were a ton of moments throughout the Greg and I were invested like,
what's happening here?
Do you think this?
Like, we were like theorizing.
And I feel like a lot of our theories were correct.
Yeah.
It's just the way they were presented, it's we kind of wanted a reveal or we kind of wanted
those moments.
And I think some of those got lost.
But they got lost in, again, a lot of charm and a lot of fun characters and really
interesting, quirky things happening and like, I don't even want to spoil specific things,
but like weird objects being used as specific things.
And you're like, that's such a weird idea, but I dig it.
I want to ask about a bit more of the gameplay loop.
But first, I'd like to hear a word from our sponsors.

Tucker D with a $2 super chat asks, can I play on Switch 2 with my son on his Switch 1?
Yeah, that's one of the game shares, right?
I do remember seeing that in other game share video games.
I'm just not sure about orbitals, but I think that's how it.
The way I understand switch game share to work that yes, that does work.
Yes, that is how it works.
Yeah, yeah, confirmed.
Jonathan Pacheco with a $5 super chat says,
I like to play quad games with my six-year-old niece.
Is the game difficult, is the game's difficulty approachable for kids?
Muchas, amigos.
Early on, Tim was like, do you think you're going to be able to play this with Ben?
And I was like, I don't think so.
This is going to get too complex.
And yeah, later on, it's complex.
where you're reading letters or numbers or whatever,
and there is a lot of timing and lasers,
and it's Ben's five,
or about to be five,
an extremely competent video game player.
I don't,
I think we would have,
maybe we could have struggled through it,
but I could definitely see where the frustration would come of.
These,
what,
for me and Tim doing it,
like the laser puzzles and stuff were easy,
but it was like,
if you go left or right wrong,
you're going to die,
and I could see Ben not having that specific.
I'm going to nail that.
Of course,
the good thing about this is,
you aren't ever thrown back
to a game over screen or whatever.
The whole
schick of your characters here
is that they die
and immediately respawn.
So you aren't punished
for falling off the wedge
you're doing the thing
but it also might not necessarily
you know,
be approachable in that way.
I want to get into
whatever the game loop is.
I want you to get into it.
I wasn't expecting
a kind of open adventure
pick whatever you want to do first.
You don't really.
The idea of a ship also kind of
I just assume this would be
level to level to level to level and...
It is. I mean, so really there you are
in a kind of mothership,
space station-y type thing,
and then you go on missions by getting in a smaller ship
that the two you go out to do a different mission.
You have to go out and get three MacGuffins.
Go on get three gobers.
That's what you got to do, right?
And so then you have these three areas
you go to then go get it.
And like,
essentially just dog,
you,
this is a linear game.
You,
yeah,
very, very linear.
You fly out of your ship
and then one person's a gunner,
one person's the pilot.
And even piloting right,
it's just you're doing left to right.
It's just left to right.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Gotcha.
And then you kind of just fly out to a designated area
and then you essentially dock with a different ship
and then go into that ship and that's a bigger area.
And you just do that a couple of times.
And then throughout the game, there are,
there's one area that is like,
I call it more like the Madagascar and Uncharted 4.
It's not open, but it's like more open.
Hey, here are six things you need to do to get the third Magoober.
So like, how are you going to do it?
You know what I mean?
McGruber?
I'm taking McGuffin and Goober.
at adding him together because I'm using the Spiderverse
Magoober and then I'm taking McGuffin and put him there
I like that. Thank you.
You can use it if you want your streams with Ray.
The co-op bros with a $5 super chat says
Hayes-like, I might motherfucker.
Says Hayes-like, new subgenre you heard it here first.
We really enjoyed this game for a long time.
Our drawback for us is the length.
Could have used a couple more hours.
Do you all feel the same way about the length?
100%.
Did you all, then lie to your wives and go do something else?
Oh my God, we went to the titty bar.
No, no, no.
I went home immediately and that Jen was very sick.
But she did a great, she did a great curry at home.
Oh, it's delicious.
Butter chicken.
She made it butter chicken over there.
Oh, I don't know about that.
What do you mean?
Never had butter chicken.
From an Indian restaurant, you've never had butter chicken?
But you like curry, so it's pretty much the same thing.
Oh, okay.
Cool.
Anyways.
Sounds like I'm in.
Yeah, I'd be in.
No, we went home.
So it's a, it's a push and pull of.
Erdy Cooper Titty Bar.
Jesus.
I got lanterns on the mind, but I won't.
say anything beyond that. You see Lantern?
You caught up? Not three. Oh, my God. Titty bars.
Back to it. Okay. It's the
idea that I
So
stick with me. Everybody just stick with.
I'm with you, man. I'm here. This is another
shower thought I had thinking about how I'm talking about
this game. I'm going to control your body. When we
start the let's play, Tim is
very much like, it's cool
that you're into this, Greg. Like, I know
that you like co-op games with me,
but anime is not your thing.
And I was like, correct.
I've seen how I was moving castle, yada, yada,
but like, I like what I'm seeing here
and I want to go into this world.
At the end of it, it was another one of those, like,
did I, and this is me saying as an anime novice, everybody,
did I expect too much from this art form?
Is this on par was just an anime cartoon
where things move so quickly and you get to the end and there you go?
So to the question of the length,
yes, I could have gone for more time
specifically for the Orbital's world story and gameplay
because I wanted to see another act of the story.
I feel like the story is rushed.
I couldn't go for more time
because I want a longer experience on the co-op.
I think just shy of six hours,
developer interviews had said,
oh, it's about too long play-thrus.
When they said that, I was like,
all right, well, what's a long play-through to you?
You know what I mean?
Like, what do we...
I think that's actually a really great time
for a haze light or like.
Okay.
But orbitals itself, I think,
could have been stronger
if I had more game and more stuff with it.
Because, again,
And I end and I'm like, man, touching moments at the end in a cool little message and I like that deviation point or whatever, but I don't care about these people.
I barely knew their names at the end of it.
Yeah.
I feel like the length is perfect.
I just think that the pacing to get to the end, that's what's off.
And I think that both from a gameplay perspective and from the story and character perspective, like there's clear, there's a clear ordering or things that I'm like, all right, I would change this.
I can look at the story
and be like that last bit
I would say the bigger open bit
It's like that could have been I think used
In a different way
And I think the story even kind of hints at that
A little bit
With the two main characters at least
And yeah I think that like
The nut hasn't been cracked
About the optimal haze like experience
Of the co-op puzzle platformers
Of what is the right duration
Because you have to play it with somebody else
And it's not gonna be in one sitting
It's going to have to be in multiple sittings and trying to tell a story while also having the fun.
It's like, yeah, there's a lot going on there.
There's a lot of things you need to check off.
And I don't know that all those things are inherently working towards the same goal.
And I think that that kind of presents a lot of issue.
And you kind of see that here.
But to Greg's point about the anime stuff, like, I think they did such a good job of capturing the spirit.
I just don't think it's like the best anime story I've ever seen.
I don't think that this is like, it's very, very.
been there done that and that's not a bad thing because it's like they are mimicking a lot of
what's come before but uh what look how cool this looks andy what look how cool this looks and he's
so sick and there's just so many moments like wow this is so damn sick but yeah go for it Kevin can you
go to assets and pull up the second image I put in there because I did go through and crop out the
thing we were talking about where tim and I do something amazing and like you you you that moment
will live on you we too know I think I even call out smiley's of like you know what I mean like oh yeah
I don't know where this game, I don't think is going to make top 10.
Big wow.
But like, the thing we did together, that was super, super fun that I really enjoyed.
Like when you have a moment like that, that Kevin's pulling up the second image in assets, that, you know, there it is.
Can I get the second one though?
Second one, where I was trying, I'm trying to screen grab while I'm talking to all of you.
Second one, I think has a better like, oh, man, like we were really enjoying us.
This is, you know what?
When I think back on this, it's going to be that, that will be the moment.
That will be the thing that I remember from me and Tim playing this game together and doing something.
And the music.
is 10 out of 10.
It's perfect.
Like the theme from the opening of this game to the very end.
Every single.
That's orbitals every other.
Now you're orbital.
Every single time that the music hits, it hits.
And it's throughout the entire game.
I feel like every single thing you're doing is paired with the perfect soundtrack.
I love that because kebabs rode in with a Super Jet House and music theme song aside, of course.
It's so good.
It's so good.
And again, that goes too with the visuals.
And like, I feel like the,
choreography and camera angles they have for like most of like how it splits and where you're at.
There's so much love and thought put into those elements.
And again, I think from a presentation standpoint, it's immaculate, like simply immaculate.
I just think that the gameplay stuff, it's, it really goes down to the feel.
And maybe there's going to be a lot of people that play this game and it feels perfect for them.
I saw somebody, I don't know who it was, but I saw that one of the reviewers today said that this is the best 3D platformer since Astrobod.
and I could not disagree more.
Like I cannot imagine playing that game and playing this game
and think that like the 3D platforming element of it
is at all even same stratus.
Yeah.
We'll play big hops.
And I think a lot of that has to do with the feel of it
and the field of the camera and just weight of the jumper,
lack thereof and all of that.
It's like how you don't like the dash and the run in your automata.
Yeah, it is.
But you love it.
So hey, to each their own.
Ryan Downing with a $5 suit,
because I've never had butter chicken loves it.
says, I love it.
Ryan Downey, the $5 super chat says,
Orange is a color associated with anti-bully.
It's funny to see Greg using the color as the opposite.
I'll let everybody know for all the bullies out there.
I'm taking it back.
All right.
We're going to change the narrative.
I'm orange.
Clawmaster with a $5 super chat says,
Andy, you broke my heart.
Why did you fumble like your spurs?
I know.
I'm sorry, dude.
I'm sorry.
I honestly, I would have been better with the,
like, I would have been able to say burger for overcooked.
you know what I mean
I would have been able to say sushi
yeah pizza
sometimes the words just aren't there man
I mean that's usually the case
you know
if I ever
disappoint you for not remembering something
that's on you yeah
you should have that by now
you know what I mean
that's on you guys you've been very clear
yeah you have a bad memory
I don't remember things
super chat here from Anthony
says hell yeah
can I get a birthday tax shout out
from my guy Andres
Cortez what a gift
long live team
Team Purple.
Team Purple.
Excited to see Mike take up the mantle,
though.
He's gonna kill it.
I loved this section.
Like when we were here
doing this in the early game,
like this stuff was this to me.
I'm like, wow.
Yeah.
I think this is going to be
the best one of these games.
So just sort of ran out of steam
near the end and maybe didn't.
I think pretty early.
Okay.
I think it was pretty early on.
After that first day with it.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Where it's like,
oh,
I know hard to say.
Wow.
Would you have preferred they just,
like,
what if near the end of it
or what if just all the way throughout,
they just straight up,
copy paste it a lot of
it takes to and split fiction
mini gimmicks or whatever
would that have helped the experience
these reviews are always so hard because
all we do is just compare it to other
similar experiences and I think with this one in
particular it's impossible not to
I mean yeah we're also talking about a game of the year
it takes two you know exactly that's
that's very true but I also think
that it's just like I don't know how productive it is
for me to say what I wish this was
instead of comment on what it is
is. So I've commented on what it is and like where I think it succeeds and where I think it falters.
Yeah. And I said this a couple times throughout the playthrough, but like now looking back,
especially after beating it, I'm just like with how much I love the look of this game, the vibe of
this game, the potential of the story of this game, it's like, man, I kind of wish it was just a single player
narrative experience where they could focus on telling a story and focus on the platforming and
puzzle and all that stuff feeling better than it did. Because so much of this, I think,
think that they they wanted to be about the collaboration and communication between us.
And I do think to give the gameplay of this game, a shout out, I think that the level of communication
was higher than it's been in the previous, in the other games.
Like, Greg and I multiple times had to be like, what are you doing right now?
Look at my screen.
Look at my screen.
Like, where we're at?
Oh, that blows up if I don't.
Okay, okay.
Yeah.
Or were there any like this symbol, that symbol, anything like that?
So much of that.
And there's so much stuff where it's like we are in the middle of action together where we can't
just look at the.
the other person's screen.
So I had to rely on Greg, like, I'm dodging bullets.
And like, these missiles are coming at me and the controls aren't doing many favors.
Yeah, the flight combat, I did not.
Yeah, it's like very, the dash was like, it pushes you a little further than I'd want it to.
I had this move that was like, you know, like an air blast or something to that effect to push things away.
And sometimes it would work.
Sometimes it wouldn't on the big rockets coming at me.
I'd understand what the problem is.
Feedback's a big issue in the game.
Yeah, we talked about this.
Understanding you're hitting something.
Visual.
Yeah.
The HD2D rumble was awesome when it worked,
or when it was just like,
we're running around and like simple things are happening.
But when you're in a space fight,
I'm like,
I feel like my controller's vibrating because he's shooting the gun.
And I understand that's because I'm in the same ship as him.
But when I'm also shooting a different type of thing,
I'm like, wait, where's the impact of what I'm doing?
That stuff I think really got in the way,
especially when I was saying this earlier,
but it's like because the game.
so visually interesting,
I think it's kind of hard to discern
the yellow tape of this game.
You know what I mean?
The yellow arrows and stuff,
that it's not there.
Gotcha.
We have a super chat here from...
Zarkly.
This is probably the best part of the game.
You know what I mean?
Yeah.
I have to power this guy up.
He's moving around.
Then we got to...
There's one thing where we had to open the...
It's coming up the doors
to shoot things between each other.
We had to call it door numbers.
I'd love this.
So, like, let me tell you this,
Andy, because like, this is so cool.
and it's very early in the game as well.
Let me just interrupt.
Zarkley just made an Amongus joke.
He was just making a super chat.
I'm sorry, that has happened to you.
That's okay.
So we're each on different sides
of like this window essentially, right?
Uh-huh.
And we're doing different things,
but like there's like door flaps that are opening
and it's like numbers one through nine, let's say.
And so I am limited in my like hoverability or whatever it is.
So he needs to be able to shoot me through the flap.
I open a flap.
He shoots me to like recharge my hover.
something like that. I think I saw Bless do this
in the preview or maybe you and Blest
did this in the preview. But what was cool about it is
I'm calling out. I'm like, okay, open three now and he opens three
and I'm like open five. You go forward just to those
doors. So just like probably 20 seconds maybe
once we get, because this jump we did struggle with. I'm like,
wait, what's the orientation we have to do?
And so as we were doing that, it's like,
all, cool, this all makes sense. But on my side,
all the doors are completely, I can open any of them.
But on Greg's side, there's stuff blocking
some of the doors. So I'm like, open,
and he's like, I can't, it's blocked.
And so then this panic sets it up like,
okay, I gotta get to eight.
Like, so that was really, really cool.
Yeah.
I like it.
Just kind of didn't quite live up to the expectation.
Yeah, this is such a strong start that I just, yeah,
I think as we go on from here, the puzzles don't,
aren't as inventive or as fun, right?
That last section, which is a main section,
felt like busy work.
We were doing a lot of busy work.
It felt like in there.
It does seem by the end of it,
and you all mentioning being very,
kind of caught off guard by the sudden ending of it.
Like if I were to just completely guess it,
it feels like,
hey, we, you know, we are over budgeted.
We have to kind of like wrap this up.
And maybe we don't have time for that final act.
No, it felt like they told the story.
Like, it comes together in a way where it's like,
oh, we got to the end.
It's just we were kind of expecting,
like, when we were pacing out,
oh, we need to put hours in this game.
We need to beat it by Embarger.
We need to know.
know how much more we have so we can kind of schedule our lives out because it's a co-op game.
You need to do that.
It's like, all right, cool.
Well, clearly the story is presenting these things, but there has to be one other thing.
And there just wasn't.
They didn't need to be.
Like, in terms of storytelling, didn't need to be.
But I just think that, like, they could have then used the pacing of the story throughout the
earlier stuff to, like, get to the conclusion better than they did.
We're just kind of going off of, you know, however many goddamn years of media where we just,
I know how stories usually play out.
Okay.
Well, that's going to do it for orbitals, everybody.
Wow.
Do you have any other questions?
Abrupt ending to the games cast.
Yeah, let us know in the Super Chat.
It sounds like y'all, I think we're just out of stuff to say.
I mean, yeah, I mean, it's a sad state of affairs.
It's not how we wanted to go, right?
Can I answer a chat in the question here?
Of course.
Chase in the chat, Chase Lopez-Nobax says,
Strange how you guys are reviewing this game
and have been totally quiet on Zero Company,
aside from yesterday's Blessings Solo Let's Play.
I've seen a lot of people
What the fuck is everyone talking about?
We are an 11 person small business
In the fucking insane review period
Not only did you get Blessings video yesterday
Of course, before that two weeks ago
You got a glowing preview from Snowbike Mike and Lucy James
Like what are we talking about?
I don't know, it's kind of strange
Interesting that this game
That's a fucking XCOM successor
Not the biggest thing in the world
They can't dedicate all their fucking time to
And this also looks like
I mean granted
A lot of people are out there
enjoying it.
I can't wait to play it.
81 on, oh, I'm talking about
orbitals.
81, 81 on Metacritic, 83 on open
critic.
You know, this is also just then
Greg and Tim saying, hey, we did this for
split fiction, why not do this again?
Well, I mean, more than that, I think we were excited.
What it all comes down to is we don't play games because we have to
play games. We play games because we want to play games or
interested or like maybe we might like something, right?
Or we want to put ourselves out of our comfort zone to try
something different. But it's like, with where we're at right now,
I was hellly excited for orbitals
Me too. Coming out, I'm still
excited about it. Like this being the first game from
the studio, I'm like, this is not
a failure. I think that like
there's, I would just like Greg was saying, I'll be so
excited to see their next project. I'm
excited to see people enjoy this one.
Like, I'm a little shocked at how the
Metacritic is, but I'm also not because
I think there's a lot of people that
the games that they play, they're like, yeah,
this checks all the boxes for what I'm looking for and there's so much to
love from it. So I get all
of that, but yeah, there's not enough time
to play every single game and be able to
talk about it. And even when you do talk about it,
people are mad that you're too high, too low, but
at the end of the day, these are our opinions
and our experiences with these games.
Yeah, I mean, when it comes
Zero Company, I've been wanting to boot that
up so badly.
Hope you enjoyed your blood of Dawn Walker, 40 hour of you.
Yeah, and I'm like,
I played another like four hours
of Don Walker yesterday and I'm like, oh
man, some crazy fucking.
That gave you so fucking good.
Fast next week.
Are you on it?
You're going to make it?
Yes.
Oh yeah.
I'll beat it by then.
But also, you know, officially out of embargo that can be talked about.
I've been also playing the shit out of Moonlighter 2.
That game fully comes out tomorrow, but the embargo has been up for like two days and been putting a lot of hours.
And then my nighttime game, Fields and Mystery.
Yeah.
Man, restarted that sucker.
They finally have a haircut that, like for me.
Yeah, I went from being all in on Dawn Walker.
to then doing orbitals with him
and that was kind of at the same time
and now it's Wolverine time
Wolverine reviews next week
gotta be on that
what were we
oh we were in the meeting
that you all mentioned Wolverine
I was like oh my god
I forgot we had a Wolverine
like that was like a holy
Tuesday the 15th
come to the Wolverine review
and I'll tell you what
if you come back Chase
and you super chat on that day
where's the Star Wars Zero company
I'll have some fun
I'll enjoy that if you come back
and on Emuusha as well
there's also a redacted review
next week as well
like come on
which one is that
Almost got him
Almost got him
Okay, fucky
Everybody that's gonna do it for
Today's kind of funny gamescast
We appreciate you all watching
And hanging out with us
After the stream is
Or after this games cast is
This is the kind of funny podcast
And it's Pokemon Worlds colon
We spent how much
It's me, Mike and Tim
Coming in to recap you
On our week with Pokemon
Oh boy
You don't want to know
How much Mike spent
Oh my gosh
I don't want to know
I do though
Did you buy a sign?
I don't know.
I see a super chat here from Axiou with a $5 super chat.
Thank you for your support.
It's sad to hear Tim gave it a 6.5.
I'm also a huge 3D platformer fan and I've been extremely excited to play with my girlfriend.
I'm a little scared now.
Me too, man.
I'm really bummed about it.
And again, don't be scared.
You and your girlfriend can have a great time.
You're going to have a great time.
Greg and I had a great time.
If we're reviewing just the time Greg and I had.
man, what fun.
I would put that higher, right?
Oh, the amount of times that, like, me and Mike and the Jiboni boys play, like, of five to six out of ten,
but we're having just the time of our lives.
But it's like, this game is lacking things, right?
And also keep in mind that, you know, obviously Tim really, really into platformers.
That other person, I think it was Polygon who said the Astrobot comparison.
Maybe you're, you play this and you're like, oh, should I actually do really vibe with this?
Totally.
Who knows?
Totally.
Yeah.
Again, I feel like this is like such an interesting conversation when it's,
comes to what is a review.
And I feel like our review is we're reviewing our experience with the game and the game
itself and what we think overall.
I look at it.
I'm just like,
the number is just a number.
At the end of the day,
do I recommend you play orbitals for $40 with a friend?
It's like if you have a friend and both of you look at this game and think it looks cool,
my answer is,
Hey,
I'm not saying no.
It's not a glowing you have to play it.
But I'm just like,
you know what?
Actually,
you play this with your girlfriend.
This is what always gets lost when we do this.
and I've been doing this job a long time,
but video game criticism is criticizing something.
We're talking about what we liked
and don't like about it and putting a score on it.
Anything, I mean, like, our scale is different than most,
but I mean, like, when you're, a 6-5 is okay, close to good.
So, yeah, if you look at it, go, yeah,
I want to be a part of that, go be a part of that, of course.
Like, what are you talking about?
Like, it's not us saying this game's shit.
People want it to be either that you loved it or you hated it.
And I would also go, as far as saying,
on a personal level, I think for the $40 price tag
for the art of this game, I would recommend it.
The music and the level of detail put into the cutscenes and the decisions that they made, the performances.
I'm like, yeah, that stuff was so damn.
A little pudding cup.
