And you trust this person? Oh, yeah, they went through.

Let me guess you won. They got backed up. We need an audit. They got, they got backed up. They got audited by people in the comments. Even we don't remember what we actually chose. I made notes. Yeah, you did make notes.

Chris RBA writes in and says it was mentioned that Kratos's voice actor was a television actor. Then, Greg said Battlestar Galactica. Christopher Judge was not in... Stargate. Battlestar Galactica. He was in all 10 seasons of Stargate, S-G-1, as well as a guest on Stargate Atlantis, where he fought Jason Momoa's character.

Imagine Cretus fighting Aquaman, and you can imagine how epic that episode was. Sorry to you, huge fucking dork. Boy, Arcade Atlantis! You know what I mean? Why is his keyboards? They got one of those split keyboards. You're very ergonomic. A very light, you know what I mean?

Was Jason Momoa in the episode of Stargate Atlantis? That's... Was he in Stargate Atlantis or was he in Stargate SG1 or was he in Stargate Atlanta? Fuck, all right. The episode of Stargate Atlantis. That was it? The one that I wanted to go over was, and I most shamefully, because through the whole episode, I was like, It's gree, man. It's grie. Because I swore. Didn't we have, we had devolvers comment on this, or was that post show? You talked about a post show, but like, I don't know if it was, it was PR, though. Whatever the case, it is grease, but I have a defense for it.

No, but other people are saying, we still don't have an answer. We do, remember? No, no, we did. We have multiple answers, which is like, there's no answer then. No, there was. So apparently, I read it after. Because the drug popping in saying it's grease. Straight up Greece.

Grease, but it's Spanish. Well, it's like, it's Spanish, so it's Greed. So my defense is, in Espania, you say with the TH, the, so I think it's greed. There's the cops for you, being a fucking racist, Fran. It's not racist. We heard you guys have a lot of Spine in here?

So that's my defense is. We all got it wrong. 10 minutes, five minutes into this show, there's been a chicks and a racist comment. You're all going down. Man, all that, all I wanted to say was great. So remember, it must have been after the show or in the middle, I don't even remember.

But remember, the official word from Devolver, the publisher, was this. Greece. technically gree, but everyone says grease, as do we. So it is Greece. Grease is the word. Greece is the word, ladies and gentlemen. All right. Still confused. The kind of funny game awards predictions.

Overall, 15 out of 22 of the results, not counting any of the esports categories. Of course, no. We're correctly predicted by at least one person. That kind of funny. We're not total idiots. Disco Elysium won the most awards. Hell yeah, really.

But was only predicted once. By Barrett. Boo, don't tell him. I don't want to get a big head. He got lucky. Greg had eight predictions right. I sure did. I had nine predictions right.

Boo. Imron had eight predictions, right? Hell yeah. Fran had eight predictions. It was a close race. So we all what you call photo finish? Barrett goes over the finish line. Barrett got two out of eight.

Everyone else was out of 22. But did he guess as much? No. Two out of eight. Oh, oh. We were 8 of 22? Yeah. All right.

Well, he got one out of 40s. He got 25% of his rights. Yeah. Where we were 8 out of 20... Yeah, but he probably guessed all the easy ones. What did you say? 22. 22.

Okay. We got 36% right. Well, we did. You got a little more than that. He also gave a lot of fun little editorialization going on here. Love it. Tim's most controversial prediction, which won him the extra point, came from Crash winning Best Sports.

Yeah, dude, that was one of the moments other than game of the year when I was like, oh my God, how? Tim. CTR, baby. Let's go. Four awards were unanimously guessed correctly. Best audio design for Call of Duty. Best game direction for Death Stranding. Best strategy game for Fire Emblem and best VR game for Beat Saber.

One award was unanimously guessed incorrectly. Best RPG. The guest was Outer Wilds. Winner was Disco Elysium. We undersold it. We undersold and underbelieved in Discoleasium. That was our issue. We thought not enough people had played it.

We thought because it was on the dying platform that is PC gaming, that it would be overlooked. But we have to think again about this. A lot of PC. We got to play that. We got to play that for a master race people out there. At least like a couple hours. I got to go home, turn on Jen's PC, make that thing work. You need any help.

Make that. I do. I guarantee I will. I'll help you out, man. Now an interesting thing here is that the way this is worded is that our guest was Outer Wilds when it was actually Outer Worlds. But we knew what you're voting on. We just said it wrong all the time. The problem

though is that everybody gets this wrong and Mr. CNN here on Reddit was getting the answers and stuff from Polygon and even Polygon in their article wrote it up, wrote the wrong one. Because we all do. Sure. I'm surprised none of us caught that during the show. The Liar Lire Pants on Fire Award

goes to Fran. Actually goes to Fran's text to Tim at the end of the show to for a banana nut muffin because he did not predict Sekaro as Game of the Year. I never said I did. You just wanted a nothing. So that's one of the big stories as I started because I think on the live show and maybe because I sent the text, like you couldn't remember all of what we picked. I was on the live show, you sent the text.

I reacted to your text on the show. And you I think would like, oh, Fran got right. And part of it is I actually wanted to go back in the episode. I think many times, so we'll talk about what we actually chose for Game of the Year. But I many times was, I even remember asking him, like, well, can we choose what we want to win, you know? to win, you know, like a weird fran thing, right? And I think I... A lot of weird fran things were used to this. I very often said, I was like, man, I so want

secure to win. I think that was part of why you believed it that I chose, but I didn't. I was on my feet, though. Yeah. It was more that you texted me and that you wanted a congratulations muffin. Not for me. It was just a joke about

Japan getting the joke about, Fred. Is that a Japanese developer won, and I was just you know, not that they never do, but I was super happy. And for that team from software in particular. I was super happy. And, you know, I thought of Japan and then I thought of banana nut muffin.

That was the track. Okay, I get that. Hold on. Hold on. Let me do it. Let me do it. They don't know the story. Let me probably do. I don't think Imran does. Imran, do you know the banana nut muffin story? I only heard it in reference to the way Fran pronounces Namco Bondi.

That is, yes. That's accurate too. Yeah. It is. So the way, it was an old IGN legend. Where, like, back in the days when people like would try to scare you about going to Japan. Because I remember it like you're going to go there I remember my first time you're going to go there and you're going to play is it fish you never know is there fish in it because you never know I've gone to Japan now multiple times I always have lovely culinary experiences I've never been tricked

into eating fish doesn't matter but there was a story from when you went over there when everybody was young chuckleheads and you went over there and you went up there and you were like to the Starbucks in Japan you're like Nick and Ty were ordering it's funny but none of nut muffin ice coffee and everyone in the all of the people were horrified around you and were like Fran that it's so racist and you're like no I've been told I was reading the size. This is how you're supposed to do it. That you're supposed to pronounce,

if you're going to say English, it's blah, blah, blah. And everybody's like, no, friend, you're a racist. And for years, people were like, you're a racist friend. And then eventually, a native Japanese speaker heard the story. It was like, no, that's 100% accurate.

That's what you're supposed to do. And everybody's like, we're still not going to not make fun of praying for this. Yeah. It was because of how much, you know, me, emphasis I put on it. And like, I could speak like a little. And Nick and Thai were in front of me ordering.

And so I was the third to go, you know, and they're just, you know, They got their orders fine, by the way. That's what's funny. They probably ordered the exact same thing. I'll have a banana nut muffin and an ice coffee. And then my turn comes. I'm like,

uh, oh no, no, no, I didn't do that. But, uh, I was like, uh,

banana nutto muffin, to ice soup coffee. It wasn't that bad, but I was so excited. And then they, it's not even bad, like you're doing, it was a bit,

it's like when I see, when you speak French, they want you to use the accent. Yeah. Like, you're doing the thing. No, they don't.

That is such, such bullshit. You do not go to a taqueria and be that person. I didn't say a taqueria in San Francisco. It's true. Oh, man. It's a legendary story to this. I love it.

I love it. I once caused ripples through a department store in Japan when I was like, because I wanted to know something contained pork. So I was like, I pointed out of thing like, Ego or Honamaska, like, do you speak English? They didn't, but they knew what I was asking. So they like ended up just like going through the chain of finding people until like the store manager, like the top, like 80-year-old guys like down like, yes, how can I help you?

And I'm like, uh, does this contain a pork? Like, no. And then left. And I was like, okay, cool. Like, that took like 40 minutes, but sure. Oh, man. So yeah, Securo, no matter what happens at the end of the day, it gets the banana nut muffin award. That's it. I love it. I mean, it was so a shock. Like, I don't think, I mean, obviously, none of us predicted secular would win. No, no, not at all. We're still going over that.

Do you think that, and that's the thing. No, we're still going over everything, right? Are we going to go over some of the categories in other words? My thing about Seciro, because it won game spots, too, is I wonder. It may be not for GameSpot because I know, well, I actually don't know. I assume it's like IGN where they go into a room and argue and stuff. And actually, I do know that. They had talked about it at that drink thing we went to. Not that they told us who won, but that they were arguing it was down to two.

I wonder for Game Awards of Secura winning is what we talked about, right? Where it's such a weird year, whatever you want to say, but where votes got split between different things, right? Because I don't even, I don't have it in front of me to see what all the nominees were, right? But if it was, they went to R.E., they went to Outer... Control. Yeah, control. Exactly. And not that I'm taking away from Sekeara, I just wonder if it was a, I think that was not a, it's a dark horse, right?

It was an underdog in that category. I didn't expect that to have like a real shot. It's a good point, and it's not to take away, right? You're wondering if there were so many kind of even picks, like all of them were going to try. You're saying so much got split up that that's also what I just feel like if you would have had me, looking at that list, I would have been like, okay, I said control, right? I was like, I think control is going to be the one that pulls ahead of the path. But I wonder in a blind pool if that just had it now.

I bet it was razor fucking. then honestly. Yeah. You bring them an interesting point. Like, it would never be published because I feel it does take away from the award. But I would love to see

what the actual stack of votes was. Was it unanimous? Or was it super close? Those are things you only know when you work there. Sometimes folks do runners up. I don't think very often. Keeley doesn't.

Again, for like, it can take away from the main award. Yeah, totally. Even though it's nice to get a runner up. Before we get into the actual awards, announcement predictions. Greg got the most announcement predictions right, two out of three.

Imran and Barrett each got one right, no smash, no Batman, and Tim and Fran both got no announcement predictions right. Taking the announcement predictions into account, the scores are Greg 10, Tim 9, Imran 9. I think we should take him into account. I didn't even remember doing that. I was actually surprised that

Nintendo just didn't bother to really show up. Super bizarre. I mean, they had a free show. What's it called? Bravely Default 2. Yeah. Actually, bravely default 3 but sure. Yeah, exactly. Which is also, and the people that are going to enjoy that are going to love it. But for what Nintendo's shown at Game Awards,

this was a cranky con for me. Yeah. I mean, I assume that like this year they're just like, let's wait. Like there's no reason to have this stuff right now for whatever reason. Yeah. I think they know that they have next gen to compete with next year.

Yeah. If they want a counter program. Let's like save the hype for ourselves. Yeah. But okay. So going into this game of the year, winner, Securo.

Yeah and he gave sources For you specifically Oh cool because you're a maniac. We won't get into it, I'm sure. You see how people were so salty about going over how the awards are done and all that stuff. YouTube was like a little upset we were discussing. How are these awards chosen and criteria?

Why are they upset? They really were mad at me in particular. Yeah, they're like, you know, how I am. I actually love reading all the comments. It doesn't bother me, but they were like, man, Fran derails like I'm doing right now. But I'm like, Fran aids in the conversation. I like the people who think we're always arguing. But I would want to take this moment to say, we always appreciate the feedback.

it is good reminders, but also remember anybody at the table, like we can, especially you, Tim's the host, if he doesn't like how the show's going, he's like, we're moving on. You gotta remember that. Best action game. The winner was Devil May Cry 5. Yeah. Greg said Apex. It's a fucking lock. I love the quotes. I know, that's the best part. I'm like, let's really show. in the stuff than it actually was. Yeah. Barrett said either Apex or definitely, my crime. Best Action Adventure Game, winner, Securo. Greg said Control. Tim said Securo.

People want to seem cultured and cool. Imran, control, between this and Sechiro. Fran, R.E.2. between this and Securo. Barrett said control. Interesting. Best art direction. The winner was control. Greg said, Grease, gris grass.

Grease is the word. That's how we'll remember from now and everything. Grease is the word. Between this and Sinara Wildheart's. I said Death Stranding and said, if you're going to give Death Stranding anything, it's this. Imran said, Link's Awakening. And Fran said, Greece, between this and Death Stranding. Barrett didn't say anything. So we were all wrong. Well, was that one? Control.

It was control, yeah. I was very happy for that, man. I love the Super. opposing that they do in that. Yeah. It's so cool. Like the big impact font? It's so cool.

Well, no, but they, I won't go too far into it. They actually have two 3D modeled game worlds. They're rendering one in the background of the current one. They like, it's amazing. It's so cool. Anyway. Best family game. The winner was Luigi's Mansion 3.

We all said Smash Brothers, except Barrett said Mario Maker 2. We were wrong. Best fighting game, the winner was Smash Brothers. Fran said Smash. We all said Mortal Kombat. You said smash because of sales and accessibility. And I said people don't think of smash as a fighting game. Oh, that's how that came up.

I was like, it is the best-selling fighter. I remember saying that. But that wasn't the only reason. Who the fuck is this? You cowards. You love Smash Brothers. And you betrayed it, Tim. But Mortal Kombat 11 deserves so much praise.

For the story mode alone, I would even say. It's so freaking ballsy to, like, commit that much. And the tutorial mode is amazing. And, like, yeah, the crypt mode is also really super cool. Like, fighting games just don't do stuff like that. Yeah, and I want more of that. Let me see if there's some interesting stuff here. Are you looking over other categories?

I'm just looking at other categories to see, like, what we said. I think the whole thing's interesting as you go. Anything I made a prediction for has been interesting so far. Don't ever think it, baby. It's not everything. It's just kind of like best art design. The winner's call of duty. Greg said they cared enough to talk about a judge of the week, so we also call it duty.

And that's the thing is like, But I think again, like, don't, when it's a great Greg point, don't skip it. Okay, I guess you're right. I guess you're right. Like, when you pull aside all the judges and you're like, listen to the gun. You're like, all right, cool, yeah. Listen to the gun. You really care, man.

Look at the bullets are ricocheting off this thing. They're off that thing. Listen to the gun is such a scary statement. Fresh in the game, the winner was Disco Elysium and Subway. Greg says out of wilds because so many people are talking about it. I said out of wilds. I've heard this game mentioned a lot of us game of the year. discussions ramp up. France said out of wilds.

Barrett said untitled goose game. Idiot. Nobody picked it, though. That was one of the ones that we, nobody picked disco. Community support award. Destiny 2 won. Greg said Destiny 2 between this and Fallen, 17 14. I said Fortnite. Imran said Destiny 2. And he also said the public vote should have been 50% for this one. Fran said Fortnite.

Barrett didn't answer because he's a coward. What strikes me now that I look at it is that Destiny did won and I was super happy to see that, but I was like, I vote for Fortnite? After all this Destiny I'm playing? I guess it was, I think I remember even saying, I was so close to it. Yeah, and it's the thing, too, of like you just don't know what that means. I think, like I said, right, if you're in any of those communities, I think you're pretty

likely to vote not for your game. Yeah, maybe that's it. Everybody navel-gazing on your community and your game and being like, well, they were super responsive, but everybody's like, no, they weren't. This subred thread went unanswered for yada, yada, yada. But well-deserved it. It's funny, though, when I read it, I'm like, I swear that we said because the breakup with Activision and the way that, like, everybody'd be happy.

I thought that I voted for it, but no. Yeah I just goes to show you Like when we talk it can kind of sway things Because Destiny 2 was such a good answer for that And I'm happy they won because going indie Was such a big headline and all that Best game direction

House House has made games before. Why are they on that list? Because it's fresh. What other game did they mean? God, it was on puzzle game. Was it, uh, like, mobile? Oh, that's what that category was? I mean, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, possibly.

What was that category called again? Fresh. So, that one was fresh indie game. Oh. So, man, a. new game from a new independent studio. On paper, that's what I meant you. Alright. You make a good

had I picked just the same as you guys right and I did the thing that I think I argued against on the show was like well just because it won last year doesn't mean it can't win and I totally I just really wanted Final Fantasy to win and I think I was just trying to mix stuff up and meaning I think in that moment

I forgot about the competition. Yeah. And I lost it. I could have tied you. You could have done it. You could have done it. Ryan Clements actually wrote a really never heard of it. Really good read Twitter thread about Final Fantasy 14. Yeah. Go go look up at Pwam Sider.

Palm Sider, that's right. Palm Sider. I think what a great call for Twitter handle. Great, so memorable. All things being equal, I think Final Fantasy 14 probably objectively should have won that, but it wasn't the story that year. You know what's funny is that I don't think that because again, when Fortnite won, I was like, holy cow, Fortnite is so, in terms of like ongoing game, the live events are indisputable, the amount of technology, coordination, production value. It's crazy. Like them or not. You might need to have to go to a live event to actually understand a movie later in the year.

Who knows? Well, yeah. But, I mean, it's still, like, yeah, like the Star Wars event, they just did is incredible. the technology and what they pulled off. It's a card attack game, but it's just like grindstone where you get to the end and go through floors to get to the end. And every card just does interesting stuff. Some cards eat other cards become stronger. And you get really into the strategy of like, wait, don't want to attack.

tap on this. And then you make your load out eventually. So you have a load out of cards and you progressively unlock how many cards you can equip. And it's like all potions are plus one. When you clear a floor, you get all your health back. And so you get into this whole mode of like, what's my load out going to be? And then this is probably the main reason I like it. I found a load out just so I could grind gold. And gold is how you buy items in the item shop. So I'll just be on the train mindlessly. Like I found a really good gold grind. And I'm just like, I'm making money, baby. And It's kind of mindless. Greasy money, baby.

But playing through it just with the touchscreen, I was like, ah, this feels, I don't feel like I'm fully in control, it felt a little too floaty, but the music was dope. Do you play many

Might have been a 20... Like, the Kickstarter was definitely like 2011, 2012. We'll look it up like. But, so yeah, They made a bunch of promises with the Kickstarter with Backer Awards and were like, okay, 2014.

Yeah, okay, 2014. I guess we're working on Shovel Night for the next for the next six years. Yeah. So this is the final one. This is King Knight. This is a prequel to Shovel Knight where he is not yet a king, but he's decided he wants to be a king.

So he just goes and he'll call himself King Knight. And he figures the best way to do that is to become the King of Carts by winning a card game tournament for a game that in the universe is called Joustice. that it's basically like a... You remember how in Triple Triad,

there's just a game in the background where you go to challenge every single NPC to a game of cards. And then you just get like a... You know, you have a fun little card game. It's in the game. Yeah. That's basically what this is.

And there's also like a standard shovel night level thing, like standard action game platformer in the background that is basically just Wario land now. Because like instead of a... He doesn't... You can't land on enemies. He just has to tackle them from the side.

And with tackling, you can get momentum. So there's that. But Jow says to say, surprisingly complicated card game underneath all of that. And it's probably what I... I only played for about 30 minutes, 45 minutes. It's... I did not understand...

Grasp the complexity of this game in the time it, like, took to play through it. What's the balance between platforming and card gaming? You... As far as I can tell you, you don't have to touch the card game if you do not want to. But you can earn things from it.

You can just play it as a normal shovel-night game if you want. Granted maybe that changes later on, maybe there's a boss that's only, you know, joustice or whatever,

but I, like, if you just want to go through the standard, oh, this is King Knight's level and, like, go through that,

you can still do that. And it's still, it plays like a different game than Shovel Knight because of the way he himself functions. So with that, how do you enjoy the way

that he controls? Because I loved Shovel Knight. I thought Plague Night didn't really, wait, no, wait. Plague night. I didn't really like

how he controlled with his like weird diagonal stuff, but then Specter Knight, I loved. Where does King Knight fall? I never played Spector Night, because at a certain point I was like, I don't need more Shallol Night in my life. Why is there so much shovel night? There's different campaigns.

That's the thing, is like Plague Knight was like a little too similar. It was kind of just going through the same levels, slightly redesigned. But Spector Night was a full new game. This is a full new game. Right. This is like, I guess when when Spectronite came out, I was like, it's not different enough for me, but now there's been enough time,

distance, and all that. Like, so I it's more interesting to me now I would definitely place it above plague night because like I said like you said it was not fun to control really but it's not as fun to control as shovel night is

because like I mean it's just bopping on dudes is fun ramming into them it's like I get what they're going for like the momentum-based thing it's still quite cool and I still like digging it just it's just not digger it's not quite the same thing for me but I like that the fact

they're not just making Mega Man and like Ducktails over and over again they want to make a different thing by having different characters for it. Did not expect a wario land. Yeah, it's interesting. It's a much more like I respect that they want it, they decided, okay fuck it let's just make a card game, Gwen

style thing and also put a platformer with it. And like it's I want to play more and I also got a Shovel Night Showdown but I haven't booed that one up yet. That one sounds cool. Yeah, that's a smash brother just like one. Yeah. It's... I'm definitely going to finish... These guys are insane.

It's insane how much they promised on that. And here's how we're taking care of you. Sure, a lot of it's late, but they're like, fuck it, we're doing this right. And so far, the audience loves that, yeah. The audience loves it. It's been good content. I'm excited for that next one. What's the next one looks like Dig, Doug?

Shovel night. It might actually be called it. I think it was Shaggle Lake. Yeah. I saw that at Day of the Devs. Yeah, that's not by them. They're just publishing that, but it looks cool. That looks like more of my jam than Shubeline. Traditional.

I'm curious what their next game is going to be because I know they've like joked about an N64 platformer like Go for it. Shovel night super super shovel night world. Yeah like I'd love to see that whatever they can whatever idea they have They've shown they're very good at taking an existing game and like melding it to a more modern context

and that's not right, but it's Wadham, Wadham. I've been playing Wadham. It's crazy. I mean, I wish, I just make Catamari. Just keep making catamaris. You know what I mean? This one's a little puzzly and stuff, and it's like, it's in terms of it being, yeah, in terms of it being Kuky and crazy, yes, it's

the same kind of thing, yeah. But outside of that, it's very, very weird. Yeah, what's the, how do you describe the gameplay? I want to check it out, but I'm not sure. I would say what, I've probably put an hour and two, an hour and a half into it. Me and Jen were playing it when we got the code. And it's on way beyond now where I wasn't. The preview

I'd come back and talk to on a former gamescast. But the idea is like, it's like puzzles where the idea is that you're in this weird world and there's that you'll have like you're, you know, on this, how it starts is you're on like a square of grass, right? I remember you talking about this on the preview now. Right. And now that I've been

deeper into it, like you eventually open up different biomes and like different squares in the world because you can zoom all the way out and then you have these giant like you jump on I'm like Rebel Cruisers and then cruise over to the next thing and do it there. So suddenly you'll be on something

and it's like, okay, I need to make this platform spin which you figure and it does. You know, raises it up and does something and unlocks a new character. How do I do that?

And so you have to go back to your old, you get back on your little cruiser and cruise around and then, oh, it's this character over here I need, put him on the cruiser, bring him over. He's a fan. He blows,

that spins it up. A piece of sushi arrives. It's crying. How do I make the sushi stop crying, right? So it's... I had a nickel. Right? It's still that crazy.

All right, everything's crying and unhappy. How am I going to make it happy? And, like, you know, I've been wondering out as the mayor forever, who is the guy I was talking about, I think, in the preview where you take your hat off and a little explosive comes out and everybody, all these kid laughs. Yeah, exactly. You know, I got him a bowler cap last night and he became the detective. And he's got those, like, little beard on.

And, like, it's cute and it's fun. It's such a specific mood game that the night we got it, it was like, Jen was sick. And I was like, all right, cool, I'll just play something. And it was like, oh, this is like lifting our spirits. You're great. Then last night I came home and I was exhausted. I was cranky and I was starving. I need to kill time before dinner.

And I jumped in there and immediately turned it off. I'm like, this beautiful, bright, like colorful cartoon kid laughing world. Not what I need right now. You know what I mean? So it's cute. It's fun. It's weird. It's definitely what is in the same vein as Catamari in the same vein as nobi nobi boy.

Like it's one of those, okay, let's play this and see what it does and where it goes. And like, you know, you're like, before I was talking about your constrict, you know, you become the mouth, you eat the thing. you make a poop. You make the poop gold, put the poop in a toilet. All right, cool. There's the balloon. I got a little rock, and I want him to go up there and get the phone receiver back from the sun who has it, so I can put it back onto the base of the phone to make the crying base of the phone happy.

Do you think that, is a two-part question here? Sure. Do you think that this has a chance to kind of have any type of the legacy that Nobib-Nobie or Catamari have had? And follow-up question of that is like, would it even be possible, too? No, I don't think so. Do you think Nobi-Nobie has a real legacy? I mean, I feel more so Katamari, right? But I think that people know Nobiyon.

I know it. I say, like, I don't know if in five years people are going to know Wadam. I don't think so. And I think my argument there would be the fact that it's just a way different landscape. You know, Katamari came around and was a disc-based weird as fuck game. Very, you know, very Japanese in a Western market, we didn't get that a lot. And then for Nob-Nobie, it was in early PS3, like, hey, here's a downloadable game. So people were downloading and fucking around with it.

When it was when PlayStation was weird. now Waddam's out there and I think it's there's a lot of you know it's phenomenal it's phenomenal it's phenomenal you know

it's like such a it used to be a Sony game yeah and just wasn't at some point exactly I think well it wasn't it part of the Santa Monica deal right

where it was all these basically you remember Anna Perna Interactive right who is publishing this, right? Yeah, exactly, because that's where I played it. Remember, they are all the ex-Soney Santa Monica people who were working incubating in Sony Santa Monica, and then when they eliminated that space game and they eliminated all the indie positions at Sony Santa Monica,

they spun off and basically all scooped up by Anapurna to do Anapurna Interactive and stuff. So they have a lot of those things, right? Unfinished, or Giant Sparrow's last game, Edith Finch, right? They picked that up and that kind of thing. But anyways, to your question, I don't think you'll have that legacy. No, because I think there's a million weird games. Now there's a million different games at all points pulling for your attention. And I think this is a weird cutesy puzzler or whatever, but I don't think it's like... I think it's less that and more that Kater Takahashi just doesn't want to do that kind of game anymore.

He doesn't want to make a game-y game. Yeah. He wants to make toys. Because, like, when he left Bandai Namco, he left to make playgrounds. And then he was like, oh, this is fun, but I want to go back to video games. But he still make... Playgrounds? Like, legitimately.

He wants to design playgrounds. That was his... That is the dopest job I've ever heard. But I'm guessing not one that either fulfilled him or paid the bills. Because after that, he's like, okay, I'll just get back into video games. And he's still making playgrounds as video games now. He's not making games like Katamari, which is somewhat frustrating because we haven't had a real successor to Katamari in any real way of like that level of, I guess, unbridled creativity towards a goal. Because now it's like, okay, this is creativity, but it's so unfocused in a weird way.

Like it's, here's a biome, here's like small puzzles. It's taken years to get to this point. And I'm guessing those years where, no, Kato Takahashi, you need to make this more of a game because whatever you're doing of just people walking around and having explosions isn't going to sell. So I think that's kind of where we just ended up with Wadham. Yeah. And so that's the thing is like it's one of those, I enjoyed playing it with Jen that hour and a half we did with it. And I look at the trophies and I'm like, all right, I'm a little more than halfway through the story of trophies

whatever, story trophies, you know what I mean, the different major actions. And like, picking it up last night, it was like that thing of like, not in the mood right now. And I legitimately am like, I don't know if I'm ever going to be in the mood to go back. It seems like it's an easy platinum, but it's like, I don't know if I want to go back and do that. Like, you know, but maybe I will. I don't know. But what about it? There is no catamari hook to it, right?

Even Nobie. Nobody of getting longer and doing stuff. Like, I'm opening up this new thing. I'm just doing more stuff. Now I'm going to be the sandwich. Now I'm going to be the fork. Now I'm a beach ball. Yeah, exactly. I'm taking control these different things.

Do you think that something like GamePass would help this type of game, or do you think that it's too weird for its own good? I think it would help. I think it would help a lot, yeah, totally, because I think that's what the power of Game Pass is that you get lured in with. Okay, cool, I'm going to get to play. Yeah, I'll try it. I'm going to get to play all the Sony for Xbox first party stuff.

I'm going to get to play Outer Wilds. Okay, cool. And then it's like, okay, Outer Worlds, right? Yeah, yeah. Jesus, grass. I mean, like, honestly, this would be a perfect one for Apple or Kay just being on the iPad. I'm shocked. It's not.

I imagine they have to be working on a version of that, right? Yeah, hopefully. Yeah, it is, I don't know if you said a $20 game. It looks like I was double-checking. Yeah, so it's a $20 game, so not full price. Call it. I don't even know if you can say that term anymore. But anyway, 20 bucks, and then it looks like Epic Store exclusive right now for PC,

but it's on PlayStation. Correct. Xbox. No. Not on Xbox. Just PlayStation. Yeah, PlayStation. Okay.

But 20 bucks. Yeah. Again. Keep that in my time. Yeah. Like, I think you nail it of like he's trying to make toys, right? and that's what this plays. It plays at, you know, I've seen people talk about it,

uh, being this joyous experience. And that's exactly what it is and what he's going for. And it is that cute. It is cute in the, in not a saccharine suite. I don't like it. Or like,

it's a kid's thing. It is cute of like, you do the thing. There's an explosion. Everybody shoots off in different corners and they have this, you know, kid laugh. They all laugh. And it's like,

oh, that is funny. And then, you know what I mean? You go back in and do it. But like, again, I have to be in a very specific mood for that. And I don't feel like that mood strikes often enough for me to be like,

I'm stoked to play more Waddam. I've done this demo like 15 times for the last five years or whatever. Like one time with Kare Takahashi, like the game just broke. And like the mayor just went shooting off in his space. And like we didn't know what to do. But he's like, this is kind of fun too, right? I'm like, yeah. I love that.

Yeah, last night when I was trying to do it, I was trying to get the mayor, or I'm sorry, the detective, up the thing to talk to the crying sushi or whatever. And I started building the tower on this giant mouth. And then I don't know why. I could not take control of the giant mouth. And it wasn't, I think, a puzzle part. It was either that I'm not supposed to get.

And I was like, fuck. And so I jumped off and then took apart my tower and rebuilt the tower on a different guy. And then I was just like, started going. And then they all kept getting too dizzy. And I'm like, you know what? I don't want to do this right now. I don't want to do this right now.

I want to play my time right now. Fran. Yeah. To end the show here. Control expeditions. Oh, yeah. So during the Game Awards, this was another thing they showed off

in addition to the DLC that's coming. Right. Control. But yeah, that very moment that they showed expeditions and everything is a free edition, download that you can get in control. And it's really just the end game kind of part where you're meant to go back in a tiered environment where you unlock new. There are new mods to unlock, which I think is cool.

So you have different loadouts that you can start thinking about. But above all, it's like if you want to finally go in and use all your powers and try to like show off in a difficult environment, and there's multiple tiers. this is the place to do it. So, you know, I wouldn't expect, like, it's not like suddenly this big, awesome new quest with the janitor and stuff like that. I think hopefully that's what's coming. Yeah, that's called the foundation, I believe, March 26.

But I jumped in and, man, I didn't even get to play it. So this is more of a preview than a review, right, of expeditions. But right away, I was enjoying it once I got there. So I do want to clarify if you're interested and have not checked it out yet. I don't know why for me, and maybe it's like this for everybody, when you go into the game, you have to pick up a token that's in, central executive and I got this off of their FAQ is how I figured it out.

I mean, technically if you just start walking around, maybe you'll find it, but you find that and you got to talk to Areech I think it is, or Earsh, and then you have to find the jukebox, which is very close and kept in this chamber, it's not spoiling anything. Once you go there and figure these steps

out, you go into this sort of other really creative, if you ever went to the quarry, black rock quarry or whatever, where it gets really wild with all these shiny black rocks and the fog and all this craziness. It puts you in this world of that. And you basically get there on an island and then there's these gates that you go through

each gate and try to complete these trials of what's across each gate. You actually have to jump across these like platforms that form up to get you there. So anyway. So I'm going into a separate mode. Effectively, yeah. I mean, it's weird because it's in, I mean, you go into the jukebox effectively, I guess. So when you put the token in. that's where you choose your tiers.

So here's the other part that's interesting. And I'm not sure I feel about it yet because I haven't played enough. You have to earn the tokens through either, you know, those live events. What I forget they call it. I forget what they're called. So you have to either earn it that way.

You can spend materials to buy tokens. I don't like that decision at all. Or you can get the misdrops by defeating, you know, those countermeasure bounties. Yeah. And so unless a misunderstanding it, yeah, at first, I think I didn't have more than the first token to try. And then

I was like, oh, let me see, because I didn't want to use my materials, I went and did like a countermeasure and like, yeah, I think in that time one or two dropped. So it happens pretty quickly, but it looks like they're trying to get you to stay in the world and do a few things and then go back in. So, what's the benefit to running the expedition? Am I

getting... There's exclusive new mods and stuff in there. As far as I know, they don't drop in the outside world, so... This is one of my platinum games for a break. So, like, I need to go back and worry about the countermeasures because I did jack shit of them so I'm after 20, so I'm just run around

to let it happen. I tried doing them and I don't think I got a single one for a while and I'm like, fuck it, I'm done. In the beginning? Yeah, totally. When I was like, oh, side mission's great. All right, I'm dead. But I'm glad they added it.

Like, I think that if you beat control, you're left at this moment where you have, hopefully a lot of the powers and skills because I think you can even skip a few things. I was trying to remember there's a... I think I skipped the one thing where there's these rooms that are like irradiated, right? And I was like,

I don't think I ever got the ability the one way we have to go all the way to the basement and talk to that one woman. I didn't do it, apparently. But there's still more stuff for me to do. The point is I have all these powers, though. I just want to get in the fights. That's what this mode's about.

I was immediately enjoying it. I can't say how varied it is. I'm going to put more time in over the holiday break. Well, we'll have this for the next three months until the DLC. But I definitely approve. It was a lot of fun to just beat the crap out of stuff. And it is hard for sure
