Hello, everybody. Welcome to the Kind of Funny games cast for Friday, October 2nd, 2026.
Took a pause there. Kind of forgot what the date was. I'm one of your host, Andy Cortez,
alongside Blessing Adioje Jr.
Good day, Andy.
and the Rogue One, Gary Witter.
Hello.
That's relevant today.
Very relevant today.
Very relevant today.
And especially because last night I finally beat Zero Company.
Ooh, come on.
Damn.
Let's go.
Congratulations.
A good year for Star Wars games overall, it seems like.
I wish they didn't lay off that entire team or whatever from Bit Reactor got like a lot.
Oh, yeah, they're for a load.
Because, dude, man, that riding team, oh, it just reminded me of playing Guardians of the Galaxy.
the, um...
Oh yeah, the one from Idos?
Idos, there we go.
I was like, man, this writing team work everywhere else.
We need you everywhere else.
The writing team on freaking Star Wars is so, God-dain.
That's a really good game.
Man, I really...
Gary, you ever get around to ZECOM?
No.
Oh, is that not your kind of game?
I just...
It's interesting for me to be here because I generally don't play Star Wars games.
Really?
Not anymore.
Okay.
But this one I made an exception.
We'll get into it.
Yeah.
We'll get into it.
We'll get into all of it.
In addition to why I didn't get a code,
because...
It was a duplicate code.
I was like, the code's not working, Greg.
And then he responded, that's what you, are you happy about the vacation you took then?
Yeah.
That was his direct response.
And I was like, oh, ha-ha.
And then I asked him like, hey, can I follow up on that code?
And he was like, oh, they don't have anymore.
Yeah, they said they ran out.
I was like, well, someone took my code.
So who the fuck took my code, man?
That's hilarious.
If you're watching live, be a part of the show.
How do you run out?
Let's have that conversation.
Well, I know that codes can run out.
They do.
As somebody who has been a part of a small section of like dispersing of codes, it takes a while.
But I was like, okay, well, then someone has mine then.
I don't know who the heck has mine.
But anyway, that's enough of my personal whinings.
We get free games all the time in this blessed occupation that we work in.
Yeah.

So thank you to Omega Buster, Delaney, the Somme Twining, and Michael Pessivento.
Also, me and Roger were, we're kind of guessing that Carl Jacobs' credit card just renewed
and the new info needs to go through on Patreon for him to re-sub.
He doesn't realize.
Yeah.
Card just kind of over.
It just laughs.
You know what I mean?
Yeah, yeah.
So it's like, you know, we'll have to hit him up.
I had a dream about Carl Jacobs last night.
Oh, really?
I don't remember what happened, but you saying his name just reminded me that he was in my dream.
What happened in my dream?
I'll think about it.
I'll get to the bottom of it by the end of this episode.
I remember asking him, did you play Keeper?
Because he loves double fun.
Did you play Keeper yet?
And he said, no, man, I really wish I'm really, really acid it.
But, like, if y'all need somebody who knows how to play, like, I know.
know a lot of people who can play keeper.
He was talking about soccer.
That's so funny.
He was talking about goalie.
That's really, really funny.
For now, let's begin with topic of the show.
The Star Wars Galactic Racer Review.
The steam description goes as follows.
Star Wars Galactic Racer is a runs-based, high-stakes reinvention of racing,
born in the lawless outer rim.
with the Empire Gone and the Galaxy Rebuilding.
The Galactic League is created an underground,
unsanctioned circuit where syndicates,
bankroll chaos, and champions are forged.
This was revealed sometime last year, I want to say,
game awards, possibly.
We were like, whoa, there's Sibulba.
We got really, really jacked up.
Here we go, Racer, it's back.
And so far, the reviews are looking really dance.
Good. It's sitting at an 88 on Metacritic and an 87 on Open Critic. Wow, we. That's pretty, pretty
damn high for a racing game, for a Star Wars game, really just for any game. This game has been,
or this month has been so extremely freaking packed. This game was developed by Fuse games,
published by Secret Mode. I want to hear from Gary Wooda first.
Gary, what platform did you play Star Wars Galactic Racer on?
playing it on my PlayStation 5 professional.
How long did you play four and what score would you give it on the kind of funny review score?
Remind me how the kind of funny review score works again?
Five is a mediocre.
Six is okay.
Okay, six is better than five, okay.
Seven is good.
Right.
Eight is great.
Okay.
Nine is amazing and ten is masterpiece.
I'm so impressed you did that off the top of you.
And you could put some point fives in there if you'd like as well.
Um, we'll get into the details, but if you just want like a top line score off the top of my head, it's, it's a, it's a nine edging and nine point five.
Wow. Okay. Um, a lot of enjoyment there from Gary Wood. And I, sorry, you, I think you, did you tell me how long it took you to play it?
I mean, I can tell you how much I, I've probably played, I know, 20 hours. Okay. Wow. All right.
Oh, yeah. That's a lot longer than I think what, because Blessing told me that the campaign was fairly short, right?
Bless how long did you spend in Star Wars Galaxy Race here?
Yeah. I, I spent around 10 hours.
in the campaign. Granted, I think I did really well. Remember, it's a rogue light framework.
And so, and it's structured in three acts. And so by the time I got to act two and act three
of those campaign runs, I didn't lose once in them, or I didn't lose a run, I should say.
And so I pretty much mainlined, like sped through this game, pun intended. So that took me
10 hours, but I've played more since then. And I plan to play more when the game's fully
out and online is fully here because I'm having a great time. I'm having an amazing time.
even say, I would give this game a 9 out of 10.
Wow, we. And what console did you play on?
I played on PlayStation 5. I bounced between PS5 Pro and base PS5.
Awesome. Very, very cool. Can't wait to dive into all the things that are making this game.
Really kind of stand out. I don't know. For me, I guess it's just maybe my personal biases,
but I look at a racer game and I go, okay, you can only be so much to me personally.
You may not have the depth that I'm looking for, but everything mechanically, you guys,
guys are talking about or that a lot of these reviews have been talking about and even the
theme description I don't think I'd ever read it before but seeing a runs based and then seeing
friends like Jeff Grub from Giant Bomb saying yes it's rogue light don't let that turn you off if
you're against if you're not super into rogue lights it's it's really really well structured and he
gave it a 10 out of 10 yeah and like here's my thing and I think that's a five star system I think
oh right right right um because I can get it I can get into details if you want me to here
I mean,
because I got so much to say about Star Wars Galactic Razor.
I would love to.
Well, I guess before we hop into gameplay mechanics and things like that,
I would just like to know,
is there a story here and is it worth a damn?
There's a story here.
I think the story is fun.
It's not like the greatest Star Wars story by any means,
but it's not trying to be that.
It's just trying to be in service of getting you into the racing
and making the racing fun and exciting
and giving the roguelight campaign a level of structure.
in a level of engaging content.
And I was surprised
finishing up the story how
into it I was. I actually really liked
the story content for, especially for it
being a racing game. Very, very cool.
There is a story. I would
describe it as like street level, Star Wars.
You know, it's obviously far connected
from, you know, the grand
geopolitics of the
galaxy or anything kind of the empire.
It's beyond all that, right?
It's post empire.
And so there's just enough story for it to feel like there is a story,
but not so much that you feel like it bogg.
If anything, I feel like it could do with just a little bit less,
just because there's so many like cutscenes and transitions between races and between levels
that sometimes you find yourself just like hammering through the, like just, yeah, yeah,
get on with that.
I just want to get to the next race.
And sometimes the story elements and having to, you know,
there's a little bit of a free roam walking through the world and interacting with characters.
and some of that's mandatory.
You can skip through it, but you've got to at least do the process of skipping through it.
And sometimes you just want to, you know, racing games, you just want to get to the next race.
And I think that's a really good point.
Being a roguelight means that you're in the zone gameplay-wise.
You want to get to the next race.
You want to get to the next upgrade.
You want to get to the next thing.
And you're in a flow.
And like Gary's talking about, there are these dialogue sequences that do cut into that.
And I think that's worthwhile mentioning because I felt that too of like, all right, I'm walking to the next thing.
Ah, shit, I got it.
It's funny.
He was just on screen.
I don't know what their pronouns are.
but like the character that's like hanging from the thing that'll say.
I've got a lot to say about that character.
Yeah.
And we're going to get to that.
All right, perfect.
All right.
That character will interrupt you.
And I'm like, please let me get to the next race.
That said, you know, I kind of separate that out from story, but that's actually a really good thing to call out.
I think when the story tries, it's actually pretty fun.
Like I'm, I get surprised a lot in this game where there are moments where they introduce a character or they introduce the villain or they introduce like a certain, I guess, mystery between characters where it's like, oh,
okay, I'm going after this character for some reason,
and I actually want to know what the deal is here.
And I think that stuff got pretty interesting.
I would say in the end, like, they got, you know,
with a racing game, you know, stories are interesting.
Like, it's not obvious how you integrate story into, like, a racing game.
But, again, I think they did just the right amount to feel like there is a narrative.
You know, it's like a rags to riches, right?
This guy starts on a junk planet and then, you know,
makes it to the big leagues and you've got to take down the big guys
and you've got the huts and the gangsters,
and there's all kinds of, you know, intrigue and, you know,
bribery and, you know, match fixing and all that kind of like gangster galactic stuff is happening
behind the scenes.
Yeah.
The first time you play through, yeah, I think it's worth do all the side, there's little side
conversations and you're going to want to hear it because I think it's actually quite
well executed.
It feels like Star Wars, they got the voices right.
But once you, you know, on your 10th run, you just like, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, I want to get
to the X-rays.
Is the main character customizable?
Is a question that comes from the chat?
And I was going to get across that as well.
Like, what sort of customization are we seeing in the video?
video game at all. There's cosmetics, right?
Yeah, there's cosmetics.
It's like minimal customers.
You can dress yourself in different ways as different, you know,
color ways and helmets and things like that.
You never, you know, perhaps quite cleverly. You never see
the racist face because he's always wearing a helmet mask.
His name is shade.
Shade. Shade.
And he's got kind of a cool, generic English
accent.
Here's the thing. You can choose your voice.
You can choose your voice. Yeah. I mean, you can be, you can be male or female,
right? You can say, the helmet, who knows,
who's under there.
And I messed around a little bit with the capes and the...
Yeah.
It's a cool-looking character.
He almost has like a bounty hunter kind of vibe to him.
Yeah.
I was surprised by how badly mixed the V-O was for my character, though.
And I don't know if that was the specific voice choice that I made.
I didn't go back and, like, listen to other ones because I was kind of locked in on just playing the game.
Does everybody else sound good, but just not your...
Everybody else sounds good.
My character sounds terrible.
Is it just...
Well, I mean, they're underneath a helmet, though, right?
It's that...
And like...
He's a little bit muffled under the helmet, yeah.
He's a bit muffled, but also it's as if, like, it's as if the VO is literally being phoned in,
where the pace of conversation comes in weird, where the other character will say something,
and then he'll come in a bit too quick.
Yeah, sometimes.
One thing I do was also because I literally was playing this morning.
One thing I wanted to comment that I did like is in those dialogue interactions, even though
it's not this kind of a game where, you know, you're spending a lot of time, it's not like
a Bethesda-type game where you're always in dialogues with people.
But the way that it handles that, where the camera kind of takes up position over the main character's shoulder,
and the main character is a little bit out of focus,
a little bit boca, because the camera's focused on the person you're talking to.
I thought it was actually a very cool way to do those kind of characters.
I've never seen that before, that kind of third person over the shoulder of you,
and I thought it was a very cool way to do character dialogue.
I agree with that.
I have a, I like every, Blessing, do not look at your screen right now.
Okay, I'm not looking at the screen.
I would like for you to spell Boca.
Boca.
B-O-K-A.
Man, dude, this guy.
Close.
Man, I'm the best speller.
It's kind of funny.
What?
Okay.
B-O-K-E-H.
Oh, I knew that.
Shit.
Come on, guys.
Damn.
Come on.
Before we move on to the racing and all the pod,
because there's a lot of positives about this game.
But we're talking about character dialogue.
Can I get this one part out of the way about this?
Is it a spoiler?
No.
Okay.
Great.
So this Hebe character,
who is a major character in the game.
You'll have seen them swinging around.
They're like a five-armed, like a chimpanzee,
like a monkey-type alien.
I mean, there's one of those in...
Oh, maybe I'm thinking of a completely different IP,
but I could have sworn I've seen one of these little dudes
in a recent Star Wars thing.
Yeah, it might...
This may well be an established race in Star Wars already,
like something from the...
I'm guessing it's something...
Oh, you know what?
...sexual trilogy?
Ron Howard voices him in the Mando, in the more recent movie.
Okay, so, yeah, I'm not familiar with this.
No, it's not Ron Howard.
Fuck.
Who is it, Chad?
It's a very...
Who's a very popular director?
Martin Scorses.
That's him. That's him.
So very popular.
Again, so this, I guess it's a member of that same route.
I haven't seen that movie, so I'm not familiar with this.
Oh, that's a must see.
Similar, similar timeframe.
The issue that I have with this particular character,
and only English people are going to have this issue,
because only English people will recognize this accent.
But I swear, when this game comes out,
it's going to get a very interesting reaction in England.
Because this is the first time that I've ever seen a character in style,
Wars have a regional accent that is so specifically from a recognizable part of England.
This alien, Hebe, is a Scouser.
They have a Liverpudlian accent.
How did I know you're going to say that?
Hey, you're right there, mate.
I'm from Liverpool.
I knew you're going to say a Scouser, dude.
Hey, I fixed up your fucking spaceship for you.
Like, it's so, it took me out of the game to such an astonishing degree.
And again, most people would not have this problem, but anyone from England is going to fucking recognize.
this guy's a fucking Scousa.
I knew you're going to say that because I've seen TikToks before, Gary, of, like,
people in England ranking the best accents across the different areas.
And I just remember, like, one person being like, Birmingham is the worst.
And then people are the fucking Scousers.
And, like, scouser is just like, well, it sounds like a slur kind of.
It took me a moment.
I've been away from England for so long.
It took me a moment to place.
I thought, is this a, I thought it was from Manchester initially.
but then as I doubt and heard
wait hold on now once you hear it
you cannot hear it
you cannot unhear it as like hey they do
though don't they know hey mates I fixed up
I fixed your fucking spaceship
I've stolen some pads for you
and it's like oh my god
I feel like I'm watching like a Liverpool game
on like Premier League coverage
it's so specifically
like it's a Liverpoolian accent
and I deny any English person
who listens to it to tell me otherwise
and it's so strange because like
typically you have accents in Star Wars right
and there's a lot of that kind of
receive pronounced, you know, the imperial officers
have that very specific
kind of, distinguished, distinguished kind of
generic, non-regionally specific accent.
And, you know, and they have all kinds of
made up accents as well in Star Wars, but I've never
heard something that is so specifically
just this region of England.
And it's very strange. It's a
very strange choice.
I would like to get
into all of the nitty-gritty.
I was going to say, I haven't really even done my review.
Oh, you didn't give me
like top-thel of a thought. You gave me a score.
Yeah, I was waiting for it.
But we got, like, we dove deep, which I like,
because there's so much to talk about with this game.
Are you about to throw an ad?
No.
No, I was, but, like, you do the thing,
and then we'll jump to add because then I want to find out about the loop.
But, like, just, you know, top-level thoughts.
That's here.
Top-level thoughts is that this game, it is Burnout 3 via Star Wars episode 1 Racer,
which is my perfect racing video game.
You know, like at the top of this, Andy, you mentioned racing game.
You don't necessarily think of that.
as being something that is a top game of the year.
Maybe just for me, though.
Maybe that might be for you.
I mean, Forza was, you know, Forza 5 was on my top 10, you know.
Yeah.
Burnout 3 for me, and I think I've talked to Gary about this as well,
burnout 3 is like one of my favorite games.
It's the, it's the mountaintop.
It's the apex.
It's the apex.
And this is the closest I've played a game.
This is the closest a game has been for me to that, to that feel,
to that speed, to that exhilarating feeling of dodging.
and crashes and taking out opponents,
it captures that part
of Burnout 3 so well
and another racing game I love,
Star Wars Episode 1 Racer for the N64,
it captures that feeling of being in the Star Wars universe,
that episode 1 era of Star Wars so well as well.
And that's in the feeling of the racing,
the feeling of the vehicles.
And we can talk about that more later.
But I want to shout that out because
from the moment you pick up the controller,
that feeling is immediately recognized
You get it.
You pick it, oh shit, I know what this is, and you get it right away.
You get it right away.
And it takes those things and then builds in this roguelight system that the entire framework of the game revolves around and executes on that with flying colors.
I'm so impressed by how many systems there are in this game and how well they kind of flow off of each other.
Because, you know, the campaign, like I mentioned, is the three-act structure.
Each act is essentially its own rogulight run.
and you're trying to get through all of them.
And you are going from planet to planet.
Essentially, each planet has a set number of races,
but also detours you can take on the roguelight line.
And between planets, you come back to the hub area,
talk to characters, do upgrades, visit Heavey, which is the Scalzer.
So you're picking different, much like other roglights.
Like, I want to go to that place.
Think like Slay the Spy.
That place has a better upgrade or whatever.
There's different paths through each chapter.
Gotcha.
So, yes, the paths are things like.
Like, okay, do I want to do another race?
Do I want to do an eliminator race?
Okay.
Or a time trial.
Or a time trial.
They're categorized in a way.
Yeah, they're categorized, but then also there are certain destinations you can go to, which
will be, do you want to have a conversation with a mystery character?
And that conversation might lead to an upgrade, could lead to an interesting choice as far
as a positive or negative thing happening.
You have these different decisions you can make.
And built within all of those, you have.
Like I mentioned, these different upgrades, different things that I'll talk about in a moment.
You have abilities that you can get, which are unique for the different types of builds that you're doing.
You have faults that you can gain, which is faulty parts that you might have.
You'll give you a...
You can get them fixed up.
You can get them fixed up as well.
This game is so smart and so considerate of the ways in which it builds its roguelight systems.
And I was surprised by how outside of the campaign, there was a two-day period where they put turned on online.
for reviewers.
Those things feed into the online as well.
Oh.
Those things feed into, there's a scenario mode in the game where you play as different racers
and you have to like essentially do like a Grand Prix scenario.
But the Rogue Light stuff feeds into that as well.
This entire game is built around the Rogue Light stuff.
Now the more that you play, if you have more time in the game,
is there a progression system to where the upgrades you are getting are better than
mine because you have played more?
No.
for online
the progression
is based off of unlocking characters
and so you hit a certain rank
and now you can play as X-Racer
you hit another rank and now you can play as Y-Racer
and you have all these races that you can unlock
but the upgrades are always in the run
so it's not just a bunch of shades
out there
no well no I mean we'll see when the game
comes out I only got to play
the online mode we don't know there's only been that very limited test right now
I'm very keen for that to open up but to
To Blessings Point, I don't want to over, first of all, I don't want to overstate that.
When people say Roadlight, I know some people find that, like, I saw somebody say,
oh, like when you said Roguelight, that kind of put me off a little bit.
It's really not that big a deal.
Essentially, each chapter, you're going to have the different paths you can take.
And there's three different starting points, right?
And you're going to want to look at each starting point to see, like, where the forks on that particular road are going to take you.
Like, maybe you don't want to do the eliminators, which are, like, very high risk, high reward races.
Yeah.
Or, you know, you're going to look at it.
Basically, you can tweak the.
the path that you take through its chapter, but it's not like, I don't know, I just think the
rogue light.
Rogue light is a scary word.
I think of it in any other racing game, you have Grand Prix, and the Grand Prix's
are playing over and over again.
Think of it similar to that, but they're a bit longer and there are upgrades.
But the way that they have built these kind of, you can, you know, you can be a brawler
or you can be a red liner.
The way, the way you can essentially, there's a whole different, essentially you can have
a different, it's almost like an RPG, right?
You can have a different, I want to be like a major or a warrior or a priest.
Yeah.
That's kind of built into this, right?
And each class that you, each type of racer that you can choose to be,
will confer upon you different benefits and skills and abilities.
And basically, like, what's your style of racing?
Like, if you like to, like, if you like to brawl and fight
and try and knock other races off the track,
there's a class for you that will give you perks that are for that.
If you just want to be resilient and not crash and race conservatively,
there's a class that will give you shields and different abilities and things like that.
So, and there's many of them.
You want a lot more of them as you go through.
There's so many different ways to play.
Yeah.
There are multiple boost systems in this game
and even the choices you make regarding
upgraded one of those versus the other
becomes a meaningful thing.
Right.
And then you've got all the vehicle classes
that you can upgrade trees for each of the speeders,
for the bikes.
Yeah, like, I am so excited to dive.
I am so excited to break down all of these
different elements of Star Wars Galactic Racer,
but we'll have to do so after a word from our sponsors.

And we are back.
We have a super chat here from Metal Falcon says,
Bless, still think your team won't compete with Roger?
Oh, well, we're talking about Fadis Critic.
What are the updates?
Did I have this on my team?
I think I did have this on my team.
Would you say this was on Metacritic?
An 88.
88?
And an 87 on Open Critic.
Roger's still very scary for his team.
I think the big defining factor for me is going to be Order of the Singing Star,
which did get nominated.
for best indie game at the golden joysticks.
So that might bode well, but we'll see.
We'll see.
Understandable.
Yeah, let's dive deeper into all of these different mechanics
and the things that make the game so uniquely itself.
I'd like to talk about, you know, what the gameplay loops are,
what the risk rewards are between...
Different builds or different, you know,
I keep on thinking of like the word chambers when you're in a roguide of like,
oh, that one has like a mini boss in it.
That's going to be tougher.
Do I really want to do that yet?
I'd like to kind of dive deeper into like what the actual loop is getting back to your hub world and all of that.
I think that part is not as interesting as the upgrades are.
Because when you're making the choices on the roguelight path, it really comes down to do you want to race?
Do you want to do the, which I guess, okay, there's a lot to explain.
So in the races, it very much is the better you do want to race, the more valuable kind of loop that you're going to do.
gonna get or the more valuable choices you can get as far as upgrading your stats of your vehicle or
getting a new part or getting a new ability. Eliminator, which are the races where last place is
basically literally eliminated in these intervals. Think about it like a Mario Kart World. Yeah,
it's like each lap, the back three get eliminated. You have to finish in the final lap in the top three.
I love that. Exactly. So that's Eliminator, which I think yields better reward. Those are the high risk,
high reward runs. Those are the high risk because if you get eliminated, then your run is over. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. You have
these,
um,
so you're a league token
at the start of each race,
okay?
And the way that you lose,
if a regular race,
as long as you finish it,
it doesn't,
it doesn't matter.
But you can only,
if you wreck too many,
I think you can get like,
and again,
depends on your class.
If you,
depends on your car,
yeah, you might,
depending on your vehicle,
you might get like four wrecks
instead of three.
But if you,
let's say you get three wrecks
and you wreck three times,
you lose your league token,
all the way back to the beginning,
you start your run again,
right?
A new, essentially they call it,
a new season begins.
Yes.
In an Eliminator, if you don't finish in that top three, that's it.
You also lose your league token, and you've got to go back to now.
You can also win league tokens along the way, which means that you can lose one, but you've still got a spare.
You can basically like an extra life.
You can continue.
But it's a very good system, and I think it works well.
Really, really good.
Are you ever able to lose your vehicle in like a bet or a race or anything?
Not as far as I know.
You can do side bets, and there's a lot of that kind of sketchy stuff on the side.
The side bets are fun because...
There's not like racing for pink slips or anything.
No.
But after like the first campaign, you get into like the second and third act and they introduce side bets, which are they show all of the racers.
With a specific racer.
Yeah.
Or they show some of the racers.
And they're like, this person is expected to finish first.
This person is expected to finish fifth.
This person is expected to finish eighth.
Which one do you want to bet that you're going to beat?
Right.
And if you beat that person becomes your rival.
They get flagged with a red tag.
So you know who your rival is.
And there's, you know, no matter where you finish that you're going to win or lose a.
side amount of money based on if you just beat that person.
I love having a rival and shit like this.
Yeah.
In terms of roster of characters, how large are we talking?
Does it, Bless, you've played, it seems like about double the,
oh no, Gary has played about double the time as Bless.
Have you noticed, like four more hours?
Have you noticed anything to feel, feeling like a bit more repetitive, Gary?
Is you've like, like, have you started to see, all right, I had that moment happen again,
you know. No, not really because like, I mean, literally as I was playing this morning,
I just unlocked like the next chapter and the new planets. And like every time you get to a new
planet, it's like it feels fresh again, right? Because the, and so here's the other thing.
It's not just that these planets, you know, are aesthetically different from one another.
They all also have different conditions. So for example, if you're racing on a planet that has like a
like a lot, like a hot planet, like a lava planet, not only do you have to avoid those kind
lava streams because they'll damage your engines and so forth.
But like, your engines are going to heat up faster and cool down less quickly.
On an icy type planet, you're going to have more afterburner and you're only going to
cool down more quickly.
So on those icy planets, you can actually race fast and you can get more out of your engines.
There's two levels of, there's the regular afterburner, and then there's what's called
the ramjet.
The ramjet, which is like ultra-fast.
But again, that's, again, you can actually blow up your engines if you over, over, over,
overdo that. And again, there's ways to get perks that will let you get more out. The Ramjets will
last longer. The refuel. Can I talk about the Ramjet? Yeah. Because like we're talking about,
there's different builds and different ways to play depending on how you set up your run. And the,
when I started finding a lot of success in this game, it was very early on where I was like,
oh, this is the build I want. And it's with the Ramjet. Like Gary mentioned, the Ramjet is your super
boost. You hold X to like, or you hold, you press R3 and then you hold X to activate it. And
you get to a certain moment in the boost where it fills up and then there's a line.
That's the red line, yeah.
If you enter that line, you're in the red line, which means you're about to blow up.
You have like two seconds before you blow up.
Now, I did a build where once you enter that red line, you go faster.
Right, yeah.
There's literally a class called redliner.
And essentially, if you're comfortable living on the edge of like one second away from burning out your engine,
your redlining is going to be like, you're going to be going much faster.
So now my strategy is to live in the red line.
You're the glass canning.
I'm the glass canning.
I'm like refilling so I can get to that red line and stay there until the last second and then let go.
I don't know if you're aware of this setting.
Blessing, I actually found it by accident.
But I scumbed it a little bit.
There is, and it's not like a perk you can learn.
It's just a toggle in the menu.
You can have it automatically shut down the red line at the last second for you.
So you never actually burn out.
Oh, no, not doing that.
I want to live on the edge.
It is fun to kind of live on the edge.
Can I, here's the one thing I want to say about this game.
Yeah.
I have more to say about the red line.
Because I want to come back to the very first thing that you, that you invoked
blessing and talking about this game was burnout.
Yeah.
And that is exactly right.
For many, many gamers, burnout three and I forget the which one is which, but basically
burnout revenge and burnout takedown.
Yeah.
Those two games are the fucking nipulus ultra of racing games.
But many, many races, like, who have been to that,
mountain top, nothing's ever been as good again. Not even Burnout Paradise. Yeah.
Was as good as... And we love Burnout. At least I love Burnout Paradise, but it's not Burnout
Three Takes them. And we've tried to do, and we've tried to get there again. It's almost
every racing game that comes out, you know, there's that little bit, oh, I heard some of the
people that worked on burnout worked on this. And I hope that's going to have that burnout
flavor. But it very rarely does. And we've seen blur and we've seen split second in games
that have tried to kind of capture that. Dangerous driving. Dangerous driving, which actually
was the burnout devs. Again, didn't capture that same magic. No. And you can get it from, like,
Games like Wipe Out and Fast Fusion on Switch 2, which I think was one of the sleeper hits of the Switch 2 launch, can give you that feeling.
But let me tell it, as someone who still has so many fond memories of Burnout 3 and revenge and takedown and so forth,
this is the first game in decades to scratch that itch.
When you realize that you are actually just fucking playing space burnout, with the takedown animations and everything,
as soon as you realize that, you are all in.
And for me, just the burnout, if they want to sell five million copies of this game,
the marketing line they need to go out with, this is just burnout in space.
Yeah.
It's burnout in space.
And it's actually that good.
And it literally, and it lives up to that.
It actually lives.
I've, Gary, me and you have played so many games.
You listed them.
Yeah.
Of games that feel like they're trying to go after it.
And none of them have done it.
And I never believe.
And this one on the low key has just done it.
The promise is always there.
And then it was like, ah.
The first game, it's burnout three and burnout take down to deliver that vibe.
And just in generally, I would say this.
Racing games with me, and everyone's different,
for me, what makes a racing game work is a sense of speed.
You want to feel like you're going fucking fast.
And that's why games like Forks the Horizon never really click.
Even like when the speedometer says like 150 miles per hour,
it doesn't actually feel like I'm going that fast.
I never get a real sense of like,
fuck anyway, I'm just strapped to a bullet and I'm going so, so fast.
Again, games like wipe out and Fast Fusion can do that.
but just cars, you know, driving down,
it's very rare for me to have that feeling of speed.
This game, especially when you're riding the afterburn or the ramjet,
it just feels so fucking fast that you're constantly on the seat of your pants.
And the way that the courses are designed with these like really, really hard turns.
Because all these courses are mostly, I mean,
there are like actual like stadium circuits later on.
But since most of these courses, as you can see,
are just basically carved out of the natural landscape.
On Jaku, you know, it's obviously taken from JJ's movie,
but one of the coolest courses you'll do
is flying through the wreckage of a crashed Star Destroyer.
I love that.
And when you're literally, it feels a lot like...
It doesn't feel like it's a code.
You know when they're flying through the inside of the Death Star,
return of the Jedi, and they're flying through those narrow corridors
and just like barely like making those turns.
Yep.
It feels like that.
There are little conduits and parts of that Star Destroyer
and other layers later on that you have to fly through
that are so narrow.
You just barely feel like you're scraping the edges
and the birds of going through.
And like, I can ask my wife or ask my kids,
the number of times I go,
ah, fuck,
no,
we're gonna crash!
And like,
oftentimes the way that the court,
they are like little indicator lights
that will tell you
where the next turn's gonna be,
but you do need to learn the courses.
There's a certain amount of crashing
you're gonna do as you learn,
oh, this is not always clear
where the path is.
Like, oh, do what,
this might be a dead end.
This one might be the way to go
because they are these kind of like dimly little tunnels
and stuff like that.
But like, that sense of adrenaline,
that sense of being on the edge of your seat,
that sense of like,
fuck,
I'm going so fucking fast right now.
This game delivers that 10 out of 10.
This game has had some,
of the most fun races where I end up in fourth place.
This game, I have been in races where because of the, I want to give a big shout out to
the boost system in this game because.
Tell me more about the ramjet, man.
Oh, the ramjet is where it's at.
The ramjet is where it's at, but because you're oftentimes trading between you have two
boosts, right, the afterburner in the ramjet.
So it's either you're going regular speed or you activate the after burner or you have to activate
the ramjet.
Because you're trading between those three, those three things, I am so oftentimes passing
up opponents, getting passed up by opponents, be like, shit, I need my Ramjet, I need my Ramjet,
and like, waiting for it to activate.
And to Gary's point, there are so many moments where I'm like, all right, there's like
kind of three paths that I can take here.
I need to take the Titus one.
And it's risky, but I need to take the Titus one because I need to.
The shortcuts and think that, yeah, it's like, if you're willing to risk, like,
going through a really narrow tunnel, you can get a little shortcut.
And again, sometimes it's not unnecessarily even clear, like, what is a, you know,
I've done a lot of crashes just thinking this was a legit path through, but it was actually
a dead end.
And just by learning the courses, you'll figure that out.
A couple of other things I want to say.
The special abilities are really cool.
So again, depending on the class...
Oh, I want to talk about the pre-race quick time event as well.
Oh, yeah, I meant to bring that up to you.
So there's a couple...
You know how every race has that little boost start trick?
So before each race, depending on which abilities you've equipped,
there's a little startup sequence.
So it might be like X, Y, X, X, Y, up, down, left, right,
and each one has its own one, and you've got like five seconds to dial them all in,
basically doing, like, your little pre-flight checks.
And if you can nail all those quick time events in those five seconds,
you'll essentially have those boosts will be precharged you'll get an essential like
free use of those boosts right away yeah and then there's the thing where you have to in the
actual boop boop boop you're you're essentially revving your engine trying to get it into that
right zone you want to get it into the into the center zone so you get that boost start but even just
that feeling of like that quick time of it you kind of feel like you're flipping the switches on your
on your dashboard and when you press r2 to fire up the engines it's oh you just I just feel so
fucking good every time the engines kick in and I can't compliment this game enough because it
captures that Star Wars feel so well.
Yeah, tell me about sound and music.
Like, how much does that...
That is one of the areas where the game really excels.
The sound design needs to be nominated.
Yeah, and so...
To be fair, they've inherited
one of the greatest sound libraries in cinema history, right?
Those sound effects, you know, everything...
Remember the sound that the speeder bikes make,
and Return of the Jedi, or the sound that the podraises made in episode one?
The way that the engines, you know, fire up,
and all that kind of amazing Ben-Burt stuff that he did
to create the sounds of the Millennium Follong.
That is in here,
and it adds such richness to the experience.
Yeah.
It's one of the best sounding game here.
It is probably the best sounding game I've played in a very, very very very.
I 100% agree.
Crank the sound up.
Play with the headphones on.
If this game isn't nominated for sound design awards, we made a mistake.
Like, this game sounds incredible.
And they captured the John Williams' flavor of the music as well, very, very well.
Is it all brand new tracks plus?
Oh, I wouldn't be able to tell you.
Does this sound like a brand new stuff?
Like the music?
Yeah.
It's an original soundtrack, but it's clearly like, you know.
John Williams inspired.
Now that John Williams is essentially retired
but they still need lots of Star Wars music,
a whole new generation of Star Wars composers
have learned how to kind of mimic
or play tribute to his style.
It feels like, even my wife,
who doesn't give a shit about this game,
is like, they did a really good job with it.
It really sounds like Star Wars.
It sounds like Star Wars.
And one thing I want to compliment as well
is how much of the races
actually don't have the music playing.
Like the music will chime in at points,
but there are other times
where you're just listening to pure sound effects
at first I thought I was weird, but
after I started playing for a while, it was actually like,
hold on. This is the pure sounds
of the game sound amazing. They are standing, to be fair,
they are standing on the shoulders of giants. A lot of these
sound effects, I think, are just
directly taken from the
existing Skywalker Sound Library, and maybe
they've tweaked some, or come up with some in the similar,
but it just, like, you feel like you know
all these sounds already. Yeah. The sound of
the engines hitting, the sound of the ramjet, when you
fire an ion bolt, and also,
all the little kind of, it has all that kind of,
you know how like the thing in, in, in,
the pod racing sequence in episode one was, you know, all the races are rivals and they're
constantly shit-talking each other.
Yeah.
That's a big factor.
In the middle of the race, it'll be shit-talking you.
Dude, I talk to, I'll give one event that happened to me early on in the game, where, like,
I went in the roguelight path thing of, hey, I want to talk to this mystery character.
And this mystery character was essentially like, hey, in my culture, you know, we give gifts.
And so this character is offering you, like, a spare part for your vehicle.
And you can accept it, or you can reject it.
it kind of paints it as like, yo, if you reject it, you might piss him off kind of thing.
And like, I'm like, it's a free part.
So let me, I'll pick up this part, right?
And like, you know, I then go into the next race and I fuck up like the beginning checks.
And my vehicle blows up.
And I hear him laughing in the background.
Oh, you fucker.
And I'm like, oh, you son of a bitch.
Don't boozino, Pazza.
Yeah.
So it has all of the hutties and all of the different languages.
What about my boy, Ben Quadreneros?
So I didn't see Ben Quadrenor, but can I give you, like, a very small spoiler?
It's like an end of chapter one spoiler.
Sure.
Yeah.
So.
Roaning with fear if you're trying to go in blind.
It's interesting because like this is not,
even though pod racing is very specifically,
um,
uh,
attributed to episode one and the prequel trilogy.
I will lower my hands chat whenever Gary is done with this,
a spoiler.
Okay.
This is,
um,
this is set decades later.
You know,
it's set after Return of the Jedi.
But towards the end of chapter one,
The character, so far, this is all original characters.
You recognize the vehicles in the world,
but no one that you're familiar with
from the Star Wars universe has shown up yet.
But in order to beat Chapter 1 and advance to Chapter 2
is a one-on-one race against Subalba.
Fuck, yeah.
And it's so good.
It's done really fucking well, too.
It's so good.
Yeah, awesome.
Yeah.
You can put it down.
I will say, I guess this is kind of jumping off of what he said,
but I won't say any spoilers.
Is that, like, they do things with that character in the game
where it's like, oh, shit, all right.
You guys are leaning into the Star Wars canon in a way that's like, man, I love this.
And that for me was the turning point of really enjoying the story stuff.
And I will say, I think your boy, Ben, what's his name?
Quadgeneros?
I'm pretty sure he's in the game.
Because I remember seeing.
Oh, he's in the trailer for sure.
What's interesting to me so far is, again, I'm like, like, all head.
I'm like midway through, like, I haven't finished a full campaign run yet.
I'm like midway through chapter two.
Because, again, it is very roadlike in the sense of like, if you lose, that's it.
You're back to, you start over.
That's why it took me 10 hours.
Oh, oh, would you like to try that race again?
No, you go all the way back to the stuff.
It took me 10 hours, but I could see it taking other people 20 hours.
Yeah, oh, easily.
I blazed through that thing.
It took me, like I said to play about 20 hours.
The first 15 hours of that were basically just on the first two planets,
trying to get off, you know, the first planet, of the second planet and get to that.
When you finally get to that final planet when it's the big galactic stadium,
it does have that kind of gladiator feel of like, oh, you're not in the province anymore.
You're at the Coliseum now.
You made the big time.
You might get killed, like, in your hotel room before the race.
This place is really, really dangerous.
That's what I mean, and this game kind of sets up.
There is not bad, but like that kind of feel of
the outside the race elements. They do a good job
of suggesting like a whole world of
scum and villainy and match fixing
and all kinds of stuff going on behind the scenes.
There are a few things in chat I want to
address, right? Some people are asking
is this game going to replace Screamer
for me in my top 10? It's not replacing
anything. Both these games will be my top 10.
And Star Wars episode, or not episode
one, sorry, Star Wars Galactic
Racer is top.
three competing for me right now. It's good, it's absolutely gonna be my game of the
year just personally. It's the most fun I've had playing a video game this year and this is
fucking stacked. I agree. If I keep playing this game, if I'm like addicted to the online,
there's a good chance that's up in my number one. So I think when the game of the year
rolls around, I would not be surprised if this is at least not, is at least nominated
in multiple game of the year awards. Yeah. And any in any game of the year awards
setup that has a racing game category,
it's hard to see what beats this. Yeah.
I mean, Forza Horizon 6. Not even
close. It's tough because, like,
that's, I was thinking about that of, like,
the most fun I've had in a racing
game this year. One, I'll shout out,
one of the best racing game years of all time. Between
Screamer, Forts or Six and this, it's
like, dog. And then you have the other one coming
out. Screamer is really good. Screamer's
so good. People don't talk about Screamer enough.
And I think, is that game called Clutch? There's a new
racing game coming out next year.
We're eaten. But
When I think of the Forza thing versus this, it's almost impossible to compare.
They're so different.
They're so different, but this game captures fun in a way of, like, most racing games.
If you look on paper like what feels like the best, most complete, I realize racing game,
Forts to Six, obviously brings a lot to the table.
But if you ask me which one I want to sit down and play and have fun, it's not even close.
It's not even close.
It's so good.
I love that.
Any word on, you know, you guys, I know Gary mentioned the one,
I would call like an accessibility feature of you can't auto red line like the tops just before.
You can't actually accidentally burn out your area.
Yeah. Are there any other sort of like methods of approachability or difficulty or accessibility?
There is there are, I can't remember all the toggles are, but there are some things you can turn on to make the game slightly easier to play.
There is one perk you can get that I actually think is almost a bit like a cheat code, which is the autopilot.
The autopilot.
Yeah. So each class starts with one.
one perk, right? So, for example,
you can press your row one button.
Again, once you have to wait for it to cool down and you have a battery.
And again, you can even put points into the battery so that your battery will recharge.
There's so many different ways to customize.
There's so many basic things we've not explained.
And they're all meaningful.
They all, oh, actually would find that useful.
Yeah.
You know, like every time you get to a skill, like, do you want to add, you want to add
like to your resilience or to your drifting?
You actually have to sit and think, hmm, you know, what's going to suit my play style?
It works really, really well.
But the battery, which again, you can upgrade to get more uses of it will give you
up to four you start with one perk right so again so with the there's a conservative racer
class which starts with one uh your perk is shielded or if you there's one called brawler which
gives you an ion bolt which is a little kind of a little weapon you can fire a kind of like fry an
opponent's engine and it'll kick them back a little bit you can do an overtake but you can add as you
as you build up your race you can add up to three more and essentially up down left right on the
d pad will tell you which one is active and then l1 will activate it if you've got enough battery
There is one called Autopilot, which for about 10 seconds, the game will basically just race for you, and it will race like a fucking demon.
It will race perfectly for you.
So if you activate that at the right time, that probably, I know, it almost feels like cheating, right?
But like, I think that it's one of those features where it's good for accessibility and, like, kind of giving you a break because the game, you're intense the whole time because you're trying not to crash the whole time.
So, like, I used it early on when I would hit certain, like, corners and, like, those tight, narrow pads.
Yeah, because I'm like...
I know there's a twisty part coming up.
I know there's a twisty part.
Yeah, like, I'm like, autopilot and then it does it for me.
But I get the feeling that, like, if you're an expert racer, then it probably holds you back
then helps you because you could release that with something else.
At my level where I'm not, like, brilliant at...
I love racing games, but I'm not brilliant at them.
I think this is the kind of game where I can get good and get competitive at it,
because I'm going to put the time in with it.
A couple of things about the...
about the ram jets and the afterburn.
And I still have my thing I want to talk about with the redlining.
When to activate the abilities is very important.
It's funny, when I literally was racing this morning,
and I turned on autopilot, and it shifted me over so dramatically.
It was basically the game.
You were way off you're racing by that.
Let me correct that for you.
And then, but the scary part about autopilot is that if it disengages at the wrong,
you'll get like 10 seconds, but you don't actually know.
You'll get like one second, like autopilot is about to run out.
And you'll get like two seconds to get back on the stick.
But it might run out right as you'll get,
going into a very hard turn.
I know that's,
you've got to like,
you know,
that's one of the main reasons
why I had to,
like,
I had to stop using autopilot
because it actually caused me
to fuck up more than it
helped me at a certain point.
Bring all the shit down
from you, bless.
Yes.
So I,
to talk about the redlining thing
real quick,
because this is just one example
of the rogulight elements
really coming to play
where like I mentioned before,
the Ramjet,
your super boost,
you hit a certain point,
and if you keep going,
it'll,
you'll blow up,
right?
And it's that little,
that little zone.
Because my character build was, hey, when you're in that red line zone, that's when you go faster.
During my run, I started finding perks that were, hey, you can increase your red line zone by 100%.
Do you want to do that?
Hey, now when you're in the red line zone, you can add cooled, which is a property that basically lets you, like, cools down the ramjet so you can stay in the ramjet for longer.
You can really lean into a particular build as you add those perks.
Yeah.
It's like really smart in the ways which it like kind of throws in these different like systems and elements at you.
Where to where toward the like the end of my first run, my red line zone, I was living in it.
Like I am like managing it.
I'm cooling myself down so I can kind of get back into it.
I had another one that was, hey, because usually when you when you let go of Ramjet, you have to then reset it and reload it, which might be a minute or so.
I had, I found a perk, which was like a four star perk, I'm pretty sure.
that was basically, hey, if you let go of Ramjet, if you hit it again in a certain window,
you'll get it back, yeah, you'll get it back and you'll restart it.
So now the entire race, I am in Ramjet.
So this is actually something I wanted to talk about as well, because if you really, like,
to get seriously competitive, you're going to have to get good at Ramjet racing,
because that's the only way you're going to be racing, like, at the highest possible speeds.
But again, high risk, high reward, right?
And the way that they've done Ramjet is really clever is it makes you think about when best to activate it, right?
It'll tell you when it's available.
you'll get the prompts in your PlayStation R3 to turn it on.
And then once you activate it, you can, pressing X is what I'll actually,
pressing R3 kind of brings it online, but then he needs to press X to actually like ignite it.
Ignite it.
Now, the thing is, if you ignite, it only stays on for as long as you're holding the button down.
So, for example, if you ignite it at the wrong time and go, oh, shit, I need to turn it off for a second
because there's a big turn coming, you'll lose it.
You can't just get it back, again, unless you have that perk.
Unless you have the perk.
Right.
It, dude, it really tests you.
And I really, really like the redline build.
It's the thing that made me, got me through the game so quickly.
But on top of that, one of the things I want to shout out is the replayability, because somebody
earlier in the chat, in the regular chat, just asked, like, does it, does redoing runs get boring?
And what I'll say is, even after 16 hours of playing and having beaten the campaign, I want
to keep going back because there's so many strategies that I didn't use.
And one of the modes I want to highlight is the scenarios mode.
So you have the main campaign mode.
You have scenarios, you have like an arcade thing, and then you have online.
Scenarios basically gives you the different characters that you run into during the game.
And those characters all have their own builds.
And so you can do a five race run with those characters and try to win the final race
by upgrading to a point where you're able to get first place.
And they all have different builds.
And one of the ones I was pretty surprised by was, oh, fuck, what was the build?
Oh, I forget what the build was.
There are multiple builds I liked.
There's the afterburner one, which Afterburner is your weaker boost.
You could basically turn the afterburner from the weaker boost to the stronger boost, which changes your strategy?
Are you able to put these classes and stuff on any racer you want?
No.
Vehicle you want?
Oh, any vehicle you.
And how many vehicles do?
Okay, so we haven't even talked about vehicle customization.
So there are, you start with three different kind of vehicles.
I suspect more come in later on because what I haven't encountered yet is like a classic, the pod races.
You know, the ones that just feel like a chariot that are being dragged by that yet?
No, the chariot that just feels like it's being dragged by two giant.
engines. I haven't unlocked that yet.
Dude, you're so early in the game.
I'm like, I'm like midway through the second chapter.
Okay.
I'm like halfway through,
halfway through the full run.
Yeah.
You play for less time than me, but you've been more successful in your run than me.
I've been way more successful.
My first 15 hours were just like not getting, trying to get off the second planet.
So I haven't even unlocked that much yet.
Bless Ben Cogoneros is the one with the four.
Four engine of the four engines.
Hence Quadroneros, yeah.
And they're like in it, they're like cross-exed like, you know, the little,
energy coupling or whatever.
Yes.
That's how they're connected, whatever.
But in Phantom Menace, remember, one of the engines blows up,
goes to the crowd and he doesn't even start the race.
At the start of the races, think, fuck.
Again, just one of the things that's very satisfying.
It's because of the nature of the vehicles,
those crashes, when you get that classic burnout, turnout, turn down,
take down crash animation, they're really satisfying.
Really satisfying.
And it holds on it for a good second as well,
because you want to see all the pieces like scatter all over the track.
I'll be honest, though.
I ended up turning it off.
Oh, you did?
Oh, I love it.
I had a few scenarios where the camera would cut to the crash and it'll cut back to me and then I'd run into a wall.
That's the problem is that you have for a second.
You're like, oh shit, now back to me.
Yeah.
I think the problem is that burnout is more forgiving about hitting a wall because in burnout, you can kind of like glide against a wall.
And the game's kind of built for that.
Whereas in Racer, if you touch a wall, it feels like you're going to explode.
Unless you build up your resilience.
We haven't even talked about the recovery or recovery mechanic.
Oh, we haven't talked about the critical malfunction.
This is so fucking good.
The critical malfunction.
Okay, so you can build resilience
into your vehicle, right?
Like how many, you know,
how much damage can it take before it's destroyed?
And again, depending on, you can also,
there's a particular resilience-based class,
which gives you more resistance to damage and so forth.
And again, you can build up.
I put a lot of points,
after each race is like, do you want to add like drift or resilient?
I put a lot into resilience because I crash a lot.
But there is a particular thing that can happen
where you've taken so much damage
or you take a particular kind of damage,
it'll say you need to recover.
Okay, recover.
And it basically brings up an active reload slider.
Yeah, it's an active reload.
And you either hit the green zone
in the active reload and your engine recovers
or you miss it and you don't.
I love that.
And it's really, it's fucking great.
And like with that, so in the campaign mode,
because you're during the Rogue Light run,
you're adding in these different parts
which give you these perks,
if you fuck up the critical malfunction,
that's one of the ways
that one of your parts becomes faulty.
Right.
You can actually make it worse
if you try to recover and whiff it.
If you with it, then it's like, all right, now this part that made it so that you're going
100% faster, now whenever, if you fuck up your opening, like, button prompts, you'll just
explode on the spot.
It is.
The reason why, no way I talk about it, the more I think is a fucking 10 out.
I know.
I'm like thinking about raising my score.
Yeah, that was one thing that was one thing Chad asked earlier.
I was like, what is keeping you all from giving you a 10?
There's the simple, you know, the ultimate moment to moment, second to second feel the mechanics of racing, how the vehicles feel that sensor speed 10 out of 10.
And then everything around it, all the ways in which they have added the rogulights, the class building, the vehicle, how you manage the afterburner, the RAM jet, the recovery mechanic.
It's one of the cleverest and most original implementations of a racing game that I've ever seen.
It really is.
I know.
The what's keeping it from being a 10 out of 10 for me, it's complex.
Because I think there are a few things, right?
I think one of them being,
I'm pretty conservative with a 10 out of 10.
For me, a 10 out of 10 game is one where it is,
this is an all-timer, this is an Eldon Ring,
this is a, like, I don't know, a Mario 64.
This is something that is a definitive experience in video games.
And I think Star Wars Galactic Racer
is an incredible video game that doesn't quite get,
I don't quite put it at that height, but.
I don't know.
I don't, yeah, go for it, go for it.
This is a poor, and I don't want to feel like I'm overstating.
I don't want it carried away.
But you remember how like it slowly crept up to us,
crept up on us that Expedition 33 might be one of the all-time greatest things?
Sure, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
I'm having this feeling like this might be one of the best racing games I've ever played.
And that's my thing, too, is I think, for me,
the other thing is I can see where this game can be better.
I can see...
Oh, just think about D.
Do you see...
And I think this game could end up being a 10 out of 10 over time,
or Star Wars Galactic Racer 2 could be a 10 out of 10.
But like, there are things that I'm seeing that are on the table where I'm like,
all right, the rogue light system is genius.
I could see it being dialed up a bit more.
Oh, man, the selection of planets and locations are great.
I can see it being dialed up.
The story is fun.
I can see it being dialed forward.
There are one point oh, it's so fucking good.
Yes.
Right?
That you can imagine it only gets better from here.
It only gets better from here.
But it's not like, I think because I'm seeing enough of those places where I'm like,
oh, you could clearly make this even better.
I think that's where I'm not at a 10 out of it.
The highest compliment I can ever give a game
and I've done this before with certain games
is when I'm not playing it,
I'm thinking about when I can play it next.
I literally got it, partly because I wanted to play it a bit more
before this review this morning,
but I literally kind of got up early
and I can sneak a couple of races in this morning, right?
Because you want to play it again.
And literally just this morning I had that thing
where I finished a run and it unlocked a bunch of new character class.
His three new character classes, three new racing stars.
Oh, shit, I can experiment with these.
Gary just keep playing.
constantly opening up for you. The game constantly
opens up in such a fun way and it's going to keep
doing that for you. One thing that I'm surprised
the game feature-wise doesn't let
you do is just a regular single
player, like single race.
It's either you're doing the campaign or the
scenario. Does arcade do that?
Like arcade
arcade is I think gives you like a
specific scenario. Like
everything feels very specified for
hey here's a challenge but it never
the game's never like choose your location
choose your pod and just
I just want to race this track.
I just want to race this track.
I don't think the game really gives you that.
I haven't,
because I've spent all of my time in the campaign mode,
so I haven't even touched Arcade or scenarios yet,
so I can't really speak to that.
But then the other thing that, you know,
you and I are excited about,
which isn't even there yet,
is when online opens up,
you know, that's going to be a banger as well.
That's the thing.
So, yeah, like I mentioned before,
I did, there was a two-day online multiplayer thing
for reviewers.
It was, like, up for, like, four...
Yeah, a brief window, yeah.
A brief window.
It was, like, four hours each day.
I missed it the first day
because I had to go to the doctor from my eye.
And then I played about two hours of online the next day.
And when I tell you, I cannot wait to go back to online.
Because like I mentioned, the online implements the rogue light stuff in a way where it's like, wow, this is really fun.
Like, it reminds me of NBA The Run came out earlier this year.
God damn, this is a long year.
And NBA of the Run has a tournament style where you have to win four games in a row.
This game kind of reminds me of that a little bit in which when you enter the online, you're doing a tour.
And so you're trying to win this five race tour.
And really it is about the last race.
Like you just have to get first place in the last race.
But depending on how you do in the online races, you're going to get worse or better upgrades.
So everybody is now playing the same roguelight together.
And you can like make bets on, all right, I think I'll get above ninth place.
I think I'll get above sixth place.
And if you...
I mean, do you think you'll be able to make like side bets with other players?
No.
That would be cool, though.
I mean, I think that'd be cool.
But they kind of have a version of it.
because doing the, I think I'll get above sixth place thing,
if you live up to that,
that then allows you to get better upgrades.
And then the last race,
you actually make a bet on who you think
is going to win the whole thing.
Right.
And so, like, you can bet on yourself,
but in one of the ones I did the other day,
I looked at my stats,
and the game tells you,
this racer got first place in the last three races.
This player got first and then second and then third.
So you can look at those stats and go,
I'm going to bet on the first place guy,
and then you still get currency off the end.
I just feel like so much of the vibe,
And again, the campaign does this well
of pod racing is
you know, personal rivalries and grudge matches.
But they should find ways to lean into that in the online.
Here's, if we're living in the dream world,
I think a fun way to do that would be proximity chat.
Oh, yeah.
You get that.
Yeah, fuck you as you let go buy them.
Yeah.
And like, because in the campaign mode,
that's a great idea.
In the campaign mode, the characters themselves are,
are chirping at you.
That prox chat is a fucking great idea.
Prox chat would be so fun in this.
How much of the rivalries,
like, because you all bringing up rivalries,
you have to be super,
pumped and of course my mind immediately goes to one of the most over-talked-about systems of all
time, the nemesis system.
And like, are there, are you conquering and beating a rival and then getting a new rival?
Or is it always kind of the same thing?
Are there mini-bosses?
Are there, you know, like...
Well, yeah, so I mean, so the whole, not to get into spoilers, the whole story campaign is
there is one big boss racer that you are...
It's your mission to...
Kestar Bull.
Yeah, Kestar Bull.
You know, and he's from this like aristocratic Star Wars family,
and he's got a lot of money, and he's kind of annoying.
First name Kestar, last name, Bull.
Okay.
And so, again, as the mini-bosses, like, redacted that I mentioned earlier.
Do you remember what they call?
Because you get items from characters in the game.
Yes.
I forget what they're called.
Oh, they're called favors.
Favors.
Yeah.
So that's kind of the way they handle it where...
Oh, and they're sponsored...
I'm sponsored by one of the huts is now sponsoring me.
Yeah.
And it's like if you,
if you achieve like certain goals,
then I'll give you more bonuses.
There's just so much going on.
You got to get canceled if you're being sponsored by the huss.
Well,
they give such good sponsorship.
There are no savories,
but basically the only,
the only,
the only opportunities you have a sponsorship in this games are like the Star Wars versions
of fucking Draft Kings,
fan duels.
Some crypto company,
yeah.
The huts are for sure the fucking thing tool.
I guarantee you,
whatever the Star Wars version of crypto is,
the fucking huts are all over.
Oh,
1,000%. Oh, I've just launched my new meme coin.
So the game, the campaign has missions that are character specific and like rival specific to where I think if you beat certain rivals enough, you then get a favor from them.
Which then allows you to like equip it like a talisman in your next one.
Right.
And it'll be like, all right, now you start off with an extra galactic token or now you, you know, it'll be like the passive, passive buffs that you get based off of like favors you get from characters that exist in the world.
So that kind of satisfies the rival thing in my view.
There is also a tremendous amount of, just cosmetically,
just a tremendous amount of customization on the vehicles.
You can change like the overall body style.
Yeah.
But then you can change, there's all the different liveries and colorways.
And then there's even like a patina.
You know, like how scuffed up is the vehicle?
And you can unlock these with different kinds of points.
I love that in Mech games.
Armored Core 6 had a really cool version of that where it's like,
let's get you the really glossy brand new version or super.
metal brand new or these are really battle damage you kind of scuffed up it is just really really
interesting to the degree to which through both the customization of your racing style like what class
and then how you cut and then what vehicle again like a speeder bike before fundamentally performs
differently than it that's so much to talk about so aside from pod racers because pod racers are
kind of their own special thing in the game there are three vehicles in the game and i cannot tell you
the names of them off the time land speeder there's some kind of speed a bike speeder bike like a skimmer or
something, the third one? Yeah. And I'd never use the third one. No, I, I mean, I'm a
speeder guy, but the bikes are cool too. So I did the speeder bike. And the speeder bike is cool
because when you drift around the corner, you then get like a mini boost when you let go
of the drift. And so now you're hitting every corner and then boosting that. That is a unique
stat to that vehicle that you can upgrade during the campaign. A good analogy might be this. If you
thinking about when you play like an RPG like a Warcraft game.
It's like your race and your class define the kind of experience you're going to have.
In this, it's the style of racer and the vehicle category is going to define how you race.
And that's the thing is three vehicles might not sound like a lot,
but the ways in which you customize the vehicle is the thing that differentiates.
There is a lot of differentiation.
Yeah.
Once you get down there, again, there's your ability to drift and cornering are two totally different things.
There's resilience.
How fast your battery recovers.
How fast your afterburner recovers.
how fast you're ram jet
oh one of the things I really like in the time trial
you know there's like a time trial thing
which is nice sometimes if you just want like a free pass
so there's two ways to basically
is you go through to basically like skip a race essentially
time trial you cannot lose a league token
right
you either win or fail
and then those mystery encounters essentially are like
oh do you want like a free part or something but that
that counts as a stage that you then skip
so that's a race you have to do it's like a buy week
essentially yeah exactly but like
so the time trials are really fun but there's one
particular kind of time trial, which is really great, which is
the red light, where you have to ride the ramjet
pretty much, they essentially give you a special
ram jet that will not burn out. And it's
like you have to, you have to finish this race
having ridden the ramjet for like
150 seconds or whatever,
which is fucking hard to do. It's hard.
Right? Because with the ramjet is cooking,
it's really, again, you can't
always, you can't just, you're going to have
to turn it off to get around certain corners, right? You can't
just ride it the whole way around because some
corners are so tight that a ramjet is, you're just
not going to be able to make that turn. But again, you can't
just turn it, every time you turn the ramjet off, you have to earn it again by writing the after
burner until it comes back on, right? So, like that ramjet management is, again, that's a whole
other little sub-scale you have to develop, yeah. Yeah, and it's so fun. And I will say,
the time trials, I ended up, I ended up never choosing through the time trials in the, in the
path, in the Roaglight path, mainly because I felt like I was, well, mainly because I
relied more on my own customized speeder, because when you do the time trial, they're basically
giving you a vehicle. They're like, all right, you're not using your vehicle this.
It's a special vehicle. Here's a special vehicle. And I found that to be less
reliable than just doing the thing that I, like, doing the vehicle that I chose because
I've upgraded a certain way. So I, like, I don't know. I, what to the reasons of like,
why is this not a 10 out of 10? Why is it a 9 out of 10? Again, miniscule thing, I think
there could have been more variety maybe in those paths as well. Like, I could see you
aping up, even what those mystery encounters look like. I could see those getting more
interesting. Like, it comes back to the thing of, I want you to dial it up more. And I feel
like the time trial stuff, I wasn't as sold on as far as a choice. I think it was way better
to do a race because there's more reliability for me to get first place in a race and get better
upgrades that way. The homie Tyler's new groove says land speeder, speeder bike, and skim speeder.
That's right. There we go. And then the other, we touched on earlier, but I just want to come back
because it is another additional wrinkle is the planet, planetary environments make a big
difference as well. So on the lava planets, again, there are certain areas where, you know,
there are lava streams that you don't want to fly over because they will essentially
cook your engine and overheat your engine. There's an acid planet, right? When you fly
over like the caustic acid lakes, that will physically damage your vehicle. But then there are,
on the ice planets, there are kind of like ice areas that you can fly over that will
actually cool you down. So you can even manage the environment.
Dude, it's so cool. And when you're done with these races, are you going back to a hub to tell
the homie mechanic,
Dupilar, Kovsky.
There's a very small
little hub world you can wander around and interact
with various NPCs. There's a repair shop.
Sorry, I don't mean to talk about you.
Oh, no, no, you're fine, you're fine.
So basically, you're doing it
planet by planet. So each planet has
about four to five spots
that you're visiting on that planet.
After the planet, that's when you come back and visit
the hub area and do things.
And once you're wrapped up, you're then going out and doing five more things.
There's usually one or two NPCs you can talk to
that is just like a little bit of story.
A little bit of story.
A flavor here.
Yeah.
But then there is a repair shop or, you know, an upgrade.
Basically, after each race, you can add little pieces.
But if you, the permanent improvements in additions to your vehicles, I think, only happen
between tours, right?
After each tour, you'll get, like, the major bonuses.
It was a new part unlocked or whatever.
And then you can actually go to the store and spend your points on the vehicles that you
have the, that carries over.
One of the, this sounds so serious.
One of the cool discovery things, because Gary, I kept when I say bear it,
Gary
Gary mentioned
the different types of planets
and the different things
that'll happen to you
One of the cool moments
while I was playing
was first getting
to the winter planet
and seeing in real time
not realizing what was happening
but seeing my vehicle
get iced over as I'm racing
and I'm like
Oh that is cool
yeah
And then in the track you see
like I don't know what else to call them
I'll call them microwaves
You have like these little structures
Where if you
Oh they give you a speed boost
Yeah well they give you
But they also melt the ice
So right
Your vehicle gets a condition
called cooling, where if you become fully cooled, then it's slippery.
Then it's like you lose traction.
But you drive through these little microwaves that'll then warm your vehicle back up.
And now it is great.
Now I'm focusing on the boosting, the cornering, all this shit.
But now I need to make sure I get through these little microwaves.
It feels so in the world of starting.
I forgot.
I mean, there's all these different like conditions you can have like like surging.
Like for example, there's a boosting that's like if you complete, if you do like a perfect landing
off of a ramp
is you'll gain surging for 10...
Well, what is surging?
Surging is you go even fast.
You go fast.
You go so fucking faster.
But you...
I actually don't want it
because, like, again,
I come back to the sense of speed.
Yeah.
When you hit the afterburn and you go fast.
Like, but when you're a little bit nervous of that ram jet
because it's so fast, you know, it can be...
It can kill you, right?
If you're not activated at the right point.
So like, I generally wait,
even when it's active, you don't want to hit it right away.
Because if you hit it right away and then shit,
I've got to turn it off because there's a big turn.
coming up, you're going to lose it. But wait for that big
straightaway, and when you hit that ramjet,
you literally feel like you're getting pushed back
in your chair because you are going so fucking fast.
I had a run that was going so well, and
then I got real worried toward the end
of it because I became too fast.
It became a problem to where
I had a... So in the game, there are
ramps that you jump off of and you can get perfect
landings. One of my perks was that
if you get a perfect landing, you gain surge.
Yep, that's it. And like, I would land
and then take off. I'm boocy
at the same time. I'm like,
But if I'm going to slow down, I'm going way too fat and I hit a wall.
I have a super chat here from Matt Morner.
Thank you for your generosity, Matt Mortar.
Matt asks, can you customize your pit droid crew?
Can't wait to play?
Not that I've seen.
They do have pit droids, but I've not, no, they're just cosmetic.
They're there for comedy value.
And so, you know, you guys mentioned customization when it comes to different of your speeders or whatever.
Are you putting decals and color customizations and color ways where maybe the,
the back half is now one singular block of color
instead of stripes or whatever?
There's different preset
liverys they call them
that you can unlock with points as you go through.
So you can set like a default base color scheme
and then you can set the ways in which
the different layouts in which those colors are used.
And then again, I said there's patinas
which is like the different ways that the ship is kind of scuffed up
and has like battle damage built into it and stuff like that.
We have a super chat here from YesVAC
with a very generous $20 superchat.
Appreciate your support.
Who says,
echoing Jason Schreier on Blue Sky,
I'm irrationally angry at how Star Wars has no consistency
with where the colon goes in titles.
Star Wars, Colan, Galactic Racer versus Star Wars Zero Company
versus Star Wars Jedi colon Survivor.
Very, very true.
That's so funny.
Very factual.
And then we have Carlos Fontes with a $10 super chat
who says, made me so happy to see a few moments.
moments of pod racing in Andor.
I still play Racer Revenge on PS5.
I think it's underrated. It's so nice to see
Galactic Racer is apparently very wizard.
And ever got into Racer Revenge?
It's funny, a lot of my
experience with this game, and why I'm so positive about it, is actually
weirdly a sense of relief, because I fucking loved episode 1 racer.
When people talk about the best Star Wars games, yeah, we talk
about Kotaur, we talk about X-Wing Thai Fighter, we talk about, you know,
the new Fallen Order games, and those are all bangers.
But I always say, don't sleep on episode one,
racer because that game was fucking good.
That game came out when I was editor of PC
gamer and we used to have like, you know, really
competitive like cash money land matches.
I actually want to go watch a YouTube video
and like, and watch it again to remind
myself because I imagine it doesn't look that great
these days. Certainly not compared to this.
It's surprisingly holds up better than a lot of
Instagrams. Everything in my imagine
because I really wanted to, I really wanted
a burnout type experience and I really
wanted those episode one racer vibes
back and this game fucking nails
both of those things. Like it is better
I could have hoped it would be.
Even if this game,
even if I don't put this game at, like,
my number one game of the year,
it's top three for sure right now.
Yeah, 100% top three for me,
and it may well be my number one.
But, like,
I think no matter what,
it's going to remain one of my favorite games of the year.
Maybe my favorite game of the year.
What is the game that you had the most fun playing?
It's going to wind up being this.
Yeah, I think it has to be this.
And like, you know,
and again,
we're talking about a year that has fucking Onomusha,
control resonant.
Yeah.
You know, like, it's just a bang a year for games.
A lot of the first light is when I keep talking about.
A W. O'O7, right?
Yeah.
Like, what are the major game of the year contenders right now?
Resn Evil Requiem.
Requiem, 007, Pragmata.
Percopia.
Right?
Resonant.
Onimusha.
Onomusha, yeah.
Right?
These are all banged against.
This is in there.
This is in the mix.
This is in my opinion.
Yeah, I agree.
Yeah.
Zeke Speak asks, how many maps?
You all mentioned some of the different biomes and things you could visit, right?
But how many maps?
And are there plans for local multiplayer?
I doubt there's any.
So there's no split screen, right?
that's one strike against.
One split screen.
One strike against it if you care about split screen.
If you care about split screen.
And then again, this goes back to the thing where there's no single race option.
I could not tell you how many tracks are in this.
Isn't that what arcade supposed to be?
Again, I haven't checked it.
Are you sure about that?
No, I'm pretty sure.
Because, like, arcade basically gives you specific, like, use this vehicle and, like, get past,
get this time on this, on this race.
Okay, okay.
If you should want to, like, just drop into a race.
I just want to, I want to choose a vehicle, maybe choose a character,
because they have that option for, like, online and stuff.
I want to choose a character and just choose a race or choose a track.
Choose a vehicle?
Choose the vehicle and then a track and then just race.
Yeah.
And they don't have that option.
So, like, there's no clear way to see how many tracks are in the game.
I need to, I'm going to double-check that.
I checked it a couple of times and I was kind of confused about it.
But even as I'm saying it, it doesn't sound rational.
Do you, let me ask you this blessing.
Once online, obviously we're lucky enough to have had a bit of a head start getting early, early access to it.
When online opens up, are you going to be competitive or you're going to get fucking smoked every race?
What's going to happen?
I think I'm going to be competitive.
But I think this game is going to be.
tough for people who want to be sweaty in it because of the
roguide aspect. Because it really
That kind of evens the playing field. I think it
evens the playing field because you're not sure
for sure which upgrades you're going to get
between tracks. Like if you get first place
then it hits you with the legendary stuff but it's no
you don't have the guarantee that you're going to be first place in the
first race. It's also one of the things where
you can't really I mean I'm sure it still will happen so I'm
already kind of like you know blowing up my theory
here but in terms of like a meta
whatever the meta is may not work for you
because you guys might be surging
and it's like oh I fucking hate surge
but that's really good for racers who love surge
but for me it's just not that I go for this other thing
is to see the competition of different styles
what happens when you put the best brawler
up against the best technician or whatever
there's a technical class
which I haven't even explored yet
but which gives you better control over
battery you know more boosts and things like that
there's a class that's all about just the abilities
so like you're switching between doing different things
and I think that'll be a really interesting
one to do you think that will be a ranked mode I think there should be there's got
tournaments and stuff I think it's got to be I think it's gonna get sweaty I think
there is some sweaty see my fear I think the I think the thing that I don't want to
see is a week week one or week two go online and everybody's using the same character
right I think that'll be a sign of oh man okay once people once people find the
meta that is the meta that's the one that everyone locks into everybody to choose that
character yeah I hope that doesn't happen because then it's gonna get boring I would love for
it takes a lot of work, obviously,
but if they were able to coordinate,
hey, this weekend,
it's the Boonta Eve classic,
or this weekend, it's the whatever, you know,
and you know as a person who loves playing multiplayer games,
or maybe you're really in that world,
it's like, oh, this is a big event that I want to go race.
Or like a red line, only redliners can compete.
Yeah.
Dude, you don't want to see him in the redliner class, man.
The Redliner Cup?
No, man.
That could be really, really excited.
I'm telling you, though, the one, if the developers are watching this, and why wouldn't they?
They're probably fucking spanking it right now watching this video.
They must be loving it.
The one thing that I would urge the developers to take away.
Bless his idea about Prox Chat is a genius idea.
It would be really fun.
As you go by, yeah, fuck you, motherfucker.
You can actually hear the voice receding into the distance and go by.
Oh, wait.
I'll be fun.
I have one final super chat before we round out our show.
Parks View has not Star Wars related, but Gary would punish what punishment
would you like to see for Man City?
Do you want a serious answer?
Sure.
They need to be hit with the hardest punishment possible.
They have disgraced all of football.
They made a mockery of the last 10 to 15 years of the Premier League.
They're acting with complete impunity
because they're literally members of, you know,
a foreign royal family that believe that they should never face any consequences.
There's a deep shit happening here.
Yeah, I don't know.
I didn't expect anything.
I genuinely feel terrible for the fans that have been betrayed
and all these memories have, you know,
have been tarnished for the past 10 years.
The ones that are kind of like toughing it out and going,
oh, well, fuck you, we won it anyway.
Like, those guys deserve everything that's coming
because the hammer is going to drop.
Like, there's no way that the punishment that's coming
isn't going to be severe.
Expulsion from the Premier League at a bare minimum.
Probably expulsion down to non-league football.
All of the titles that they've won over the last 10, 15 years,
should be stripped, not given to other clubs,
but that season should just be rendered null and void.
Probably a 10-year transfer ban.
A fine, at least equal to the amount of fraud that they committed,
which is in excess of a billion dollars.
What happened?
Barnell says, hold on, I need context to this.
And I kind of don't want anybody to have any context.
We shouldn't even say what happened.
You go, just leaving at that.
They were essentially caught for the past,
for at least the period of nine to ten years,
cooking their books and filing fraudulent accounts,
which enabled them to buy players
and make moves in the transfer market,
enabled them to assemble a squad
that should never have been legally assigned.
Sounds like the Galactic League to me.
I mean, you'll never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy than the Etty had stadium.
The huts are behind it all.
The huts are behind it.
They seriously, they very least need to be relegated from the Premier League.
It's an absolute disgrace what's happened.
Probably one of, it will go down in history is one of the greatest scandals in world sporting history.
And the punishment must fit the crime.
And if you're thinking this ain't related to Star Wars Racer, play the game.
Yeah.
Play the game.
I love that.
Any final thoughts on Star Wars Galactic Racer?
I think it's a 10 out of 10.
I mean, it might change.
The experience I've had with the game so far
is a 10 out of 10 experience.
I don't have a significant criticism of it.
Yeah, I mean, early on in the game,
I was like, fuck, is this a 10 out of 10?
And I was able to settle myself down,
but I think it's a must-play.
It's a must-play racing game.
You got to check it out.
It's so fun.
It leaped over any expectations that I had for it,
and I can't wait to see them continue to update it.
I hope we get a Star Wars Galactic Racer, too.
I think this could be the start of something special
as long as it's nurtured and continued to be updated in a great way.
It's funny, when I think about it, it's often a win-exper.
You have things like Expedition 33, which come out of nowhere
and just a surprise.
Oh my God, this is one of the, like, nobody saw this coming.
It's one of the best games ever.
And then I've often had many experiences,
like, I really, really hope this game's going to be good.
Every time someone says, like, oh, I heard the burnout developers work.
Am I ever going to get that burnout flavor again?
Yeah.
And it never delivers.
This is probably the first time in a long time that I can remember
where I really, really hoped a game would deliver
and it fucking overdelivered.
Yes, I agree.
Now, you mentioned, bless, it's a must-play racing game.
Is it a must-play game for people not even super into the racing genre?
Maybe, you know, they played need for speed back in the day.
I'm talking about me, you know.
It's tough, I mean, it's tough to say.
I think it's a must-try.
Games are expensive, so it's tough to be, like, if you're not into racing games,
you should play a Galactic Racer.
But if there's a demo or if you have a friend or if you're able to pick it up and try it out,
I think you'll be pleasantly.
And I always return it on Steam as well.
That too, yeah.
Like, if you play, like, just 30 minutes to get a feel of it on TV.
I mean, if you just are the sort of person that's never vived with a racing game,
I don't think this is going to turn you around.
But if you like racing games, and especially if you like arcade-star races,
if you like, if you like Fast Fusion, games like that, like...
I am such a...
I am like the number one bitch of a rogue light.
Like I...
You're going to like that.
I'm such a sucker for the thing that...
That new thing is going to do this for me and I get really excited.
I'm very sympathetic of people who are burnt out on Rogue Lights,
pun intended or they're you know they're they feel like there's too many of them and this is what
I'll say what what's the pun there burn out burnt out burnt out just sorry out burnt out burnt out um
this is a good one like this is not this is not the donkey Kong bonanza roguelite DLC that they got
that feels like you're just you're putting something where it shouldn't be right this is this is they've
integrated it very very cleverly integrated it very well so um I actually found it a little bit for us
because it does feel a little bit unforgiving.
Like you get like three races in and then you lose.
You lose your league token.
You get sent all the way back to the beginning.
You've got to skip to all the cinematic.
It's like a minute or two before you can get back in another race.
There is that little bit of friction,
which is why I said like,
I played it for probably 20 hours.
My first 15 hours were getting like set back to the beginning after like,
you know, race four or whatever.
So it took me a while to unlock the next part of it.
Yeah.
But again, once you make your piece with that,
I kind of just want to shortcut.
Okay, you've lost.
okay just give me a shortcut
give me another league token
and get me straight back and I don't want to have to skip
you know because you have to skip to the hyperspace
animations and all of that stuff
and then you have to walk over and skip to the guys' dialogues
so we'll give you another league token
walk over to the pit droid there's a little bit of friction
when you start a new tour when you just really
want to go straight back in maybe that's the price
you pay for fucking up I don't know yeah
but yeah there is it does feel a little bit punishing
at the beginning just because
you know there's no option just like
do you want to retry that race no you go all the way back to the stuff
and for the more of the most place
thing, right? If you love burnout, this is a must
play. If you love race games,
this is a must play. If you love Star Wars,
I'd say, this is a must play. If they want
something to put on the box, I'll tell you, this is the game
that burnout fans have been
dreaming of for years. For years.
Yeah. Yeah. I co-signed that.
Beautiful. Thank you, Gary and Bless for joining me.
I must come on and just love a game and be positive
about this. Joining me on this episode of the kind of funny games
cast. Appreciate everybody in
chat. Let us know in the comments down below.
what your plans are for this busy gaming season,
because it's pretty damn packed.
You know, really wish I had a chance to play it.
You know, would have been...
But you're going to play it, right?
Yeah, who knows, Gary?
You know, who knows?
Make no promises?
Who knows if I'm even here...
I can understand why after this you're not yet sold.
No, I mean, I'm...
Just play a race or two, you know?
You don't need a beat.
You don't need to play through it.
Just play a race.
And I'm 100% sold.
I will absolutely be playing this game,
especially once, like,
I think the thing that legitimately sold me on it the most,
just because I really like the Star Wars universe,
and especially after playing Zero Company and just fucking loving it, right?
And then I asked Bless, how long does it take you to beat?
And you said, around 10-ish, 11 hours or so, but you can keep on going.
I was like, oh, okay, that's really, really nice.
And what did you think of it?
He's like, it's fucking awesome.
I was like, ah, damn, I got it.
I really have to play this then.
So that's exciting.
I'm pumped for this.
And you and me will definitely be online, right?
I'll be online.
Oh yeah. Oh, yeah. Let us know how excited you are in the comments down below, gamers.

And after this, I'm going to be streaming solo dolo,
and I think I've settled on stealing Bless's Code and breaking embargo on this.
Whoa, or them wronging me.
I think I'm going to play Oni Musha,
because that's a game that I do want to get back to and kind of play a bit more.
Honestly, the struggle is real right now with too many games at once competing for my attention.
I know.
Like Oni Musha, I love it, but like I...
It's insane.
I don't know when I'm going to get back to it because there's so many other games to play.
And this is with Wow Forever and GT6 around the corner.
You fucking kidding me?
Valheim 1.0.
Oh, 3-0-0-0.
No-grade of time remake is happening soon.
Shrouted 1.0.
Did you say Family Blade Zero?
Oh, Phantom Blade Zero!
Cassavania, Belmont's curse!
Oh, Jesus.
Maybe I'll play that, dim.
How dare I not to play gears.
Everybody, we appreciate you all.
Until next time, it's been our pleasure to serve you.
