What's up, everybody, and welcome in to another Gamescast Plays.
I'm one of your show host, Snowbike, Mike,
and today I'm joined by Greg Miller.
Hi, Mike.
Craig, you've been kicking butt on the games cast plays this year.
I'll let you know.
I'm the number one reviewer, kind of funny.
But in the time, put a sock in your mouth.
Tim, get the fuck out of here.
Mike, do you even review case?
Oh, okay.
I was going to end you're proud of you.
I'm happy to be here.
I'm happy to tell you about the Adventures of Elliot.
Greg, let's talk about it.
The Adventures of Elliot, the What?
Thank you, the Millennium Tales.
Greg, of course, you and the crew have a review up now.
You can go watch that.
You can listen to it on all your favorite podcast services,
a recent Gamescast episode.
How did it review?
I'm the one who, well, no, Andy had beaten it two.
I gave it a 6-5.
Okay.
It's an okay I really enjoy.
Andy there did give it a.
I do believe.
Okay.
And then, yeah,
Roger hadn't played enough
to put a real score on it.
But we were on the same boat
of, like, not,
didn't reach the heights we wanted out of it,
but it's still an enjoyable game.
Okay.
What I struggle with,
and as we'll play through and go,
is how dumb his hat is.
But also, just,
who would I recommend this game to?
You know what I mean?
In terms of, like,
I have put 28 hours into the game.
I've seen two of the eggs.
I have not gone for the tree-wending.
And I've,
enjoyed my time, but as I talked about in the review, Mike,
I put it down to go play another game
and did not think of it once.
Yeah. And it was like, look at the schedule. I'm like, oh, Elliot
tomorrow. Shit, right? I got to talk about that. You know what I mean?
I kind of totally forgot
about that. And so we did that, and here we are. And it's like, it's a game I
enjoy. It is Zelda, again, if you couldn't tell by my
heart computer. Okay. Yeah.
It is just us doing the goddamn thing, right? And you pop
in here and you got magic, we'll talk about it a second. But you get
into your inventory, right? And it's like, cool.
Yeah, you got a bone arrow.
You got, you got a hammered, you got bombs, yep, you got a little grappling hook it looks like.
That's my mere shield, you know what I mean?
Fantastic.
You're playing Zelda, and I think that's great.
You look at this gigantic map.
There's tons of shit to do.
This map, of course, has done four different times, Mike, because you have four different eras in the millennia.
Wow, okay.
To go through and do as you time travel around.
You can see 28 hours in, all of that in the age of budding I haven't explored.
Like, I haven't gone.
So it's like, I could easily see, and so many people have talked about this, this being your podcast game.
Okay.
I'm going to, like, because the story, nonsense and non-existent, the voice acting for the fairy in particular, Faye, who you will hear, we are thankfully muted.
You will hear Faye talk occasionally, and I will let you know, I've turned down Faye's ability to talk.
Oh.
I'm like, don't talk as much, and she still talks way too much.
Okay.
She's annoying as hell.
This could easily be, though, as I said on the review, your game that you just, you just,
just want to explore.
Because exploring the map is fun.
We'll come over here.
We'll set off on some adventures.
Now, what does the age of budding mean?
Is this the start of civilization?
This is, yeah.
What do we see through these ages?
Not enough of a difference.
I'll be honest with you.
Oh, wow. Okay.
This falls a little bit into what we were talking about,
me and Roger with Dragon Quest, reimagined the beginning of the year.
But like, you have this cool concept,
and you just don't do enough with it.
Yeah.
Where it's like, so this is your main section, right?
So like here, let's, right now we're in modern times,
Right.
This is where Elliot's from.
We got the, you know, the Kings.
Big Castle.
Here we go.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Castle, you got something.
You are joining my save 20 hours in everybody.
Okay. This is late game.
Now, really quick, before we dive a little bit deeper,
just what is the over-the-top?
What is Elliot in the millennium tale?
I'm glad you asked what is Eliel.
Of course, go check out the review if you want to go in-depth with Greg, Andy,
and Roger and the team from the gamescast.
We're going, of course, do a gamescast place going in-depth with it while the game is playing.
But what is the over-the-top?
What is this game?
So, Elliot.
is an adventurer, everybody.
Okay.
And if you didn't understand that,
Elliot will tell you several times
throughout this fucking game,
that he's an adventurer.
Okay.
And then you'll bump into people,
and they'll tell you that Elliot's an adventurer.
Okay.
Elliot is an adventure.
He is an orphan who was raised on these streets,
and he just does adventures for people.
He's Link.
Okay.
And Link shouldn't talk,
but we'll get to that later.
And so you go off on your quest here
to help the kingdom.
One of the Kingsmen goes,
rogue, of course. We have to stop him. He jumps through time, so we have to jump through time
to chase him and stop him. And then the story builds on itself. And of course it evolves into,
we have to save the princess. Okay. And so then you're on this millennia-spanning tale.
Let's jump it through. So like you've just seen over here, this is what the main area looks like
in modern time. Yes. So you go all the way back to the age of budding, and you'll be able to go,
oh, okay, hold on. So, bo-fast job right there. Now I've unlocked. I've gone through the time door.
You can go through the four different time doors here.
You can jump through them whatever you want to,
which is both nice and I can use a little more pop and circus
dance person.
Okay.
But so now here it is.
Look at this.
So it's very similar, right?
You can kind of see the bones of what will become in the future.
Hey, kinda cool, okay.
But again, I was, you know, when you're gonna put time travel in your game,
in your narrative, because of course, this from the folks
who did Octopath Travel.
Oh, snap.
A series I adore, one two and zero, all three of those games I love.
I was expecting,
way more from the story and honestly the bad guys gone back in time you go oh shit we're
gonna go back in time and stop him or maybe we won't we'll come back to the present it'll be
butterfly effect no no just this is these are really isn't these the things like oh that's not
you could have done more fun stuff okay okay damn well the art style pops that is of course what
that team is known for right this dude what hd 2d beautiful graphics so this is an action adventure
RPG? This isn't, yeah, they're calling it the action RPG, right?
Not an ARPG Diablo-esque, exactly. Of course, yeah, yeah. But it is very much, yeah.
This is, rather than turn-based battles for your RPG, you are coming through and having
the real-time combat, which, again, the game is good at. I don't want to take away,
here's the secondary time. This is the Age of Magic. Oh. There's a whole comment,
there's a whole thread. Wow, look at this, yeah. People used to use magic, now nobody does,
or only very few can, dot-da-da-da-da-da-da- Okay. So you have, you know, you go through
and see that through the years.
You meet characters who you'll see through the years,
which I appreciate,
which is to things that have happened or whatever.
But yeah, again, it looks like Octopath,
because it's HD2D.
It doesn't play like Octopath, right?
So as you run off here and you see guys, right?
Boom, you're right into it.
You're just straight up swinging that sword.
And again, it is Zelda.
You are cutting down the grass to get their currency
that isn't a rupee, even though it looks exactly like a rupee,
right?
Yeah.
And so as you called out, like, you have all your different weapons.
So on X you got one, on Y, you got the other.
So right now I'm using my Glade, Dark Sector, what up.
We won't call that the boomerang.
It is the boomerang.
It's a very, very basic boomerang.
You can see mine's now electrified.
Okay.
Cool.
That's one of the things the game does, I think, very well,
is that as in this stuff, Magicide, right?
So the idea here is that you get to go through
as you earn this magicite stuff, you upgrade your box.
So you see I have 43 or 45 right now.
That, of course, means that I have 45 points to work with on this bill.
Okay, okay.
So I can go through here, and you see the time, obviously, I don't have four points anymore there.
But it would be that I can go through and say, okay, I do want my attack up, my crit up.
Build up what you want, yeah.
And you get so many.
Wow, that is a lot on that.
Okay, yeah, yeah.
You have it on every weapon.
So if you really do want to switch around between the sword, the spear, the hammer, the chain and sickle.
Were you messing around with the different weapons?
Did you find yourself just gravitating to the sword?
Well, yeah, I stuck the sword the entire way.
I've never been a big spear guy.
I don't like how slow a hammer is.
I did use chain and sickle for area of effect to clear out the thing.
I like that a lot.
But I was sword and arrow pretty much the entire time
until I got the boomerang that became a glave.
Because on top of what you're doing in terms of the magistrate,
you come into your weapons, and then your weapons,
you see, have star ratings as well.
Okay.
And so, you know, like my silver, I probably had,
when I got the glave, I think I was actually working off of a one-star boomerang.
Yeah.
And so then to unlock this death spot,
I'll like, oh, hell yeah, you know what I mean?
And like, you run through, you build it up that way, you go that way.
And are those items you're finding in the world, or is that you're building off that item with
those skill points that you're investing?
No, you're finding those in the world.
Oh, wow, okay.
On top of Elliott having such an expansive map, there's so much to do, right?
So it is the idea that, yeah, okay, so here you see I have this treasure chest, right?
Treasure chest get marked on the areas, you clear them out, so you know how many treasure chests you have to go.
Yeah.
I can do it pretty well here.
So you jump up there.
I see way more treasure chests.
over here. Okay. You have these where like, you know, the doors over here for the ruins,
so like your dungeons to go down there. Yeah. These doors, the secret shortcuts, always lead to
a network of tunnels that have people to fight inside of them and then kick you out the other side.
But yeah, where I want to show, okay, here's one too, you have your temples, your shrines, so I go there
and I do whatever it is and I'll get a piece of heart. Okay. You know, a piece of blood or
whatever they call or pieces of heart so that if you get four, you expand how much tell you.
you have. Okay. Wow! Shadow Trickster says, what is the cat icon? This game is littered with cats.
Okay, yeah. Let's go. I'll go get this cat for you. What's up with these cats? You run up and you talk to the cats. Me and Andy were joking around about this on the stream, of course, or the review, that all the cats are there and they have human voices doing the meows. Oh, yeah, yeah.
Meaooo, meo. I heard that. A guy doing meows for you, a gal doing meows for you. You're like, okay, cool. A lot of open in the map, making sure you go in the right way. Wow.
battle on through.
And again, you know,
I said it wasn't Diablo.
Because it's not, right,
but it is, too, in a way of what that ARPG is.
Of, like, just go through, smash them up,
smack them up.
Smack it up.
Cat's going to be out from here.
I'm going to add in my team.
Bam.
Crazy.
There's a guy back at Town Square.
The more cats I get,
the more things he gives to us.
Hell yeah.
Okay, so they're collectibles.
They're just fun collectibles out there.
What about, yeah, what is the,
are there boss fights?
Boss fights are really well done here, Mike.
Really?
Well done.
That's honestly, I think I enjoy the combat, but it's very basic, you know, as you might
have seen there and what you'll see is I continue to play throughout this stream with you.
But the boss fights are where they get fun with it.
Here's a big guy and this different thing.
All right, cool.
How is that going to affect this?
What's it going to go on?
Okay.
How do you beat that person?
I like the boss fights a lot in here.
They were inventive.
I wish there was more of that on the world map rather than just smash, smash, and I move on
and get out of there.
Let me just pause for a second.
You're impressive.
Boy, Mike, has been playing a lot of Zelda games.
Everything that you are describing and showing me right now, I am very interested.
Okay, let's keep telling you.
This is crazy right now.
I'm like, oh, wow, like I've been playing a lot of Zelda.
It seems, it sounds very much like Zelda.
I like the sound of this.
It is Zelda.
This is great.
If you haven't played, if you've been, this is one of the reasons why I was a little
crestfallen with it.
Again, I like the story of Octopath so much.
And the characters I come to love and twist the turns.
I didn't get enough of that here.
However, I don't want to throw the baby out with the bath water.
Like, this is fun.
Like, I never turned on Octopath, or I'm sorry, Elliot going,
ugh, I got to play Elliot.
Okay.
Like, I was happy to turn it on and do it.
You know, I went to the vet one night, in the middle of the night with Cole,
sat there for like three hours in the emergency room playing it.
Like, it was a nice, you know, time waster, if you will, or whatever.
Not time wester, but a way to move on throughout time with it and do stuff.
So it's enjoyable.
It just doesn't hit the highs of, I love this kind of Zelda.
You know, breath the wild, tears the kingdom, fantastic games.
Okay.
Amazing games.
Yeah.
I like this kind of game.
I want to be this kind of adventurer.
I like the way, you know, Akarina tells a story.
Yeah, yeah.
Yeah.
And so to get this here, it was like, okay, cool.
And especially for it to be, hey, I love Octopath so much, I wanted this to be that for action RPG.
Okay.
And I don't think it hit the highs of it.
But as I said on the review, right, I'm going to be incredibly excited when they say,
they're doing another one. When they say, all right, cool, we're going to do another adventures
of Elliot. Like, okay, cool, what have you learned from this? Okay. How are we going to amp up that
story? What are we going to do there? How are we going to make moment-to-moment combat be as
interesting as those boss fights? Oh, snap. Okay, so those are some of the things you'd be bringing
into the boardroom of like, hey, on this sequel, I want us to work out. This is one of those
reasons I like where Square is at. Okay.
We talk all the time about Xbox right now.
Hey, you swung, you missed, you're fired, you're closed.
Yeah.
I think, obviously, they're going to make another Octopath.
They're going to make another one of this, too, I would assume.
And it's going to be, let's take all those learning.
You have a very strong foundation here.
Again, a 6.5 is okay on the kind of funny scale.
Yeah.
It's still, yeah, I wouldn't recommend this.
I don't think if you were like, if somebody up on the street was like,
do I have to play Elliot?
No, you don't have to play Elliot.
If you looked at like what you're talking about and said,
I want to play that? By all means, hell yeah.
Like, you're going to find, if this is what you're seeing and you're enjoying, like,
what do you think I do with that smash wall, Mike?
Put that bomb out there.
You know what's up, bro.
If people were like, I like, I really enjoy Zelda, Greg, and I love this art style that I'm
seeing from the Octopath team, would that be like, yeah, you should play this?
Yeah.
You still have reservations.
I wouldn't, I mean, reservations, I think there's, you know, one of the things I talked about
and I truly mean is like, this game might even be more.
short on its comings, right?
Okay.
Because it's up against Meena.
Meena, the hollower, just dropped in.
While I'm not a soul person, I see all the Zelda stuff in there.
So even the magicite that I'm talking about,
you augmenting your abilities,
Meena does that, and I think does it better, right?
What is the, oh, fuck, why is it slipping?
Me and 80 are obsessed with the other one
that just came out?
Alabaster Dawn.
Alabaster Dawn. Alabaster Dawn is early access,
which for me is a backbreaker, I want a final version
of that game, but like that does this better,
and character and story.
That has this kind of gameplay, but it has the story out.
Oh, wow.
And I think it, again, has the better gameplay of it.
So I would tell you, even though that's early access,
and I think the guy's talking about it'd be like five years
before it's finished, I would say, if you could only buy one,
go buy out of the dog.
Okay, okay.
If you could only buy this or Mina, buy Mina.
And like, is that fair to this?
You know, we don't review in a vacuum in terms of like,
this game is okay.
Again, I don't think it's bad by any stress imagination.
I think there's fun to be had here,
But when you're like, oh, it's a podcast game, it's like, well, I can rattle off a dozen games that aren't podcast games.
You know what I mean?
Like, we live in this blessed age right now of amazing video games all across the way where you're like, that's what I would rather go do.
Let's talk about this little fairy in the corner that you brought up earlier.
I just saw her talk.
Now, is this my navvy, my tattle to my tail?
It's your navi.
And she is the moz.
I was like, whoa, how did you do that?
Oh, yeah.
I want to,
I'm like,
ah, shut off,
stop talking.
Okay.
So you just don't like
too much talking
coming from that?
Even when I turned her down,
it's still her voice.
Okay.
It's like grating.
Oh, I mean.
And it's funny.
I saw Jason Schreier
wrote about this today
in his newsletter,
and he was talking about
how the developers
had, after the demos,
added in the ability
to turn her down.
Wow, interesting.
But it's still,
she's still too loud.
Okay.
Okay.
Okay.
Yeah.
Now we're going,
you into one of the little, let's go get this thing.
Again, all right, we're gonna do the Zelda Dungeons
or, you know, the shrines.
Okay, we're gonna go in there.
Yeah.
Some of them are so brain dead easy that you're like,
alright, why, why, okay, this is gonna be a fight,
which is nice now, granted.
Okay.
These aren't, look at this, go, these bosses,
are impressive, these aren't really bosses
as much as they are, just big guys.
Just do the J-F.
You can see, I'm O.P.
Okay, okay.
Because I've been playing.
It was funny when, at some point,
when Roger turned around and looked at my desk,
He was like, oh my God, you're killing every.
I'm playing a lot, Roger.
You've only played six hours.
You know, you get these weapons, you get these abilities.
You get these stores and stuff.
Like, you just go through.
And so, Omega Buster says Greg doesn't like whimsy.
What are you fucking talking about?
You know what the stupid ass goddamn fairy talking about?
I would die for Navi.
I would die for Navi.
Don't think I don't say I don't like whimsy.
Tinkerbell and Hook.
Julie Roberts, I would die for it.
This one sucks.
This one I would stomp on.
You know what I mean?
You said you've played multiple endings.
Yes.
Can you tell me a little bit about that?
Yeah, there's a good ending so far, a bad ending so far.
And then I know there is a true ending out there.
Oh, okay.
I don't think, I think it's one of those I could do the true ending.
But in like the little, they gave us a reviewers guy.
And they were like, and I'm not going to spoil it because I don't know where we're at with everything else.
But it was like, there's a very specific thing that's supposed to be somewhere and it's not there.
And I'm like, I don't understand if I didn't trigger it.
but I also don't care enough.
You know what I mean?
Again, this game isn't about that for me.
This game is, what I said before, I've said it in this,
the exploration in unlocking all these paths,
that's where this game excels.
That's what I want to do.
You are an adventure, so go on the adventure.
And so even here, we were talking over it, right?
But like, coming through, clearing all this fog of war,
I love doing that.
Okay.
You go over here, this.
The game's got really interesting pathing as well,
where it's like up here, right?
Like, you, yeah, you'd have to take, like, this one to get there,
where it looks like you can hear, but no, this is a wall.
We'd be stuck in this wall.
So you're going to cave to cave entrance to give in the certain places.
You have to actually bust out your map again.
You marveled at it.
We should talk about it.
I'm of course playing with my Steam controller.
Crazy.
I fucking love my Steam controller.
As you know, I love my ROG ally X,
and you know that I love my Razorblade 16.
So when they were like, we got codes,
I was like, well, I'm just going to have a sexy new controller.
Give me that.
And so I've been rocking it there.
And on the back, I made sure to put my map on a hot.
Oh, that's nice.
Yeah, yeah.
You can just jump in without doing it.
because you're in your map.
I was in my map left and right all the time.
Okay.
You got to know where you're going.
And again, that's a great experience out of this.
I enjoy that.
Now, hours on end, back to back to back, it can kind of all blend together.
You know what I mean?
Of like, okay, cool.
Like, sometimes it is kind of annoying that I can't get up there.
You saw earlier maybe Elliot, I unlocked this glide he can do so you can jump from high places.
Yeah, that's cool.
I like that's cool.
I like, can't I just climb?
Like, that's not that high.
Yeah, of course, of course.
Just jump up there, really.
Do they got damn.
Okay.
And how was your experience on PC?
Of course, we know that you have been playing a lot of PC,
but this one with the Steam Controller.
Is this your first full game with the Steam Controller?
It is. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I got on the Steam Controller super excited.
I booted it up Xbox and realized you can't play Xbox with it.
I was like, what the fuck?
I want to play for a replace, God damn it.
So no, this is, yeah, you know, 28 hours armist controller.
It did become destination.
Like, I played a lot on Rog in that emergency room,
but as I've said, I am an Octopath.
I would say fanboy, even though I don't, you know everything,
and yada, yada, yada.
But maybe I just appreciate it a lot.
So I love this art stuff so much that this was,
I had to throw this up in the big TV.
It had to be rocked at the max settings,
even though I mean just getting sharper and sharper.
It just is such a gorgeous art style for me
that I was like, okay, I want to do that,
which meant I was all over the steam controller.
Okay, I like that.
I like what you're putting down.
I like hearing everything so far.
And see, it's like that thing of like, again, story,
not even, whatever.
And he's skipping everything, right?
Oh, no. Is it fully voice acted?
Yeah.
Yeah, yeah, 0.5 higher than you.
But it is that idea of if you just want to do the old school Greg Miller or this, I bet would be a fun platinum.
I haven't looked into it.
I'm popping all my steam achievements, but it'd be a fun platinum, I bet.
This would be the thing of like, cool, I'm going to turn it on and listen to games daily and just go get a bunch of checks.
Just kick ass.
Where these cats?
Wear these chests.
It does a really nice job of, I didn't talk about this in the review, but like when you go into the cave, right, it'll tell you how many treasure chest and cats are really.
I mean, even now you can see, yeah, like this came up here.
Oh, there you go, even from here.
So I'm a cat and a chest in there if I wanted to go chase it, right?
Like, I like that kind of stuff that isn't hiding the information.
Yeah.
Like, when I found, I kept running into cats in the story or the game.
And I was like, I'm going to get the ability to talk to you.
I'm going to do something.
You're whatever.
And then when I met the cat guy and, oh, collect the cats.
I was like, oh, that's cool.
But I forget how many hours I was in.
And I'm like, clearly I'm going to go back to old places and try to remember where I saw the cat.
Should I have been keeping a list?
and then you go to the map and it shows you where I'm got it's great but again like
I'm I approve of everything here but stick with me I think that's an enjoyable time I could
see why you would enjoy that I think it speaks to a problem with certain video games which is
dumbing the experience down I'm not saying the game needs to not tell me where the fucking cats are
and make me annoyed but it really speaks to something we talked a lot about with hellas us
when they talked about we are player plattering we aren't showing you
everything. We want you to find these things. This very much becomes a game of, I want that chest.
I'm going to travel to the fastest point. Go there, open the map there. There's the chest. I got the
chest. And it's like, there's an achieve, there's obviously an adorphin rush off of checking something
off. Yeah. But what did I really do there? You know, it's one of those games where you do this,
you play for hours, you know what I mean? Like, I ran around. And like, even now, I'm going to open up.
Okay, money, that's great. Sometimes you open up, though, and it's more another majesty.
for a weapon I don't use.
Of course.
You know what I mean?
You can go make your own magistrate.
It's, you know, you can put all, as you upgrade your abilities, you make better magicite.
Yeah.
There's all the stuff, but it's just like, okay, I, you saw how I'm just tearing enemies apart now.
So it's not like the combat's challenging me.
And it's like, I'm just running over there to get the chest, yada, yada.
It's back to why I feel like, you know, I, as soon as we finished the review, deleted this off of my rog and off of my razor blade.
Not because I didn't like it because I was done,
even though I don't have the full ending.
Whereas you look at Octopath Travel Zero,
where I still have 20 hours or whatever to get the true ending there.
And I'm not believing that.
I'm going back to that.
I love that story in those characters so much.
Whereas this, it's like, it's another, it's the difference, Mike,
and I'm not trying to be super insulting,
but it's going to be insulting.
But it's the difference between do you want to go
to John of Bleaker Street and get a fucking awesome pizza
that you wait in line for
and it's delicious and fantastic
and everybody says the best pizza owner.
Love that.
Or do you want to go to the Pizza Hut buffet,
which is very different, but still
it's good for what it is.
Tim's argument all the time with like,
I go to Pan Express because I want Pan Express,
not because I want Chinese food.
I want Chinese food.
I'm going to go to X, Y, and Z local.
Okay, okay.
And I feel like that's the same thing here
where it's like, nice.
I don't, this is junk food.
It's a big video game map junk food,
and you've all probably watched me for years,
you know that I love video game junk food,
so I'm not talking shit about it.
But I've had my fill of it
after 28 hours.
Yes, exactly.
And it's like, okay, I don't feel compelled
to go chase anything else at this point.
Even though there's plenty to chase if I wanted to.
Well, I like what you're putting down here, Greg,
and I think we've got some more to dive into.
And I'll encourage everyone watching on YouTube
and on Twitch to start sending in
any sort of questions you may have.

Greg, I want to dive into the combat because we do have a YouTube question over here.
Greg, did you ever increase the difficulty to see if it improved the combat for you?
I want to dive a little bit into the combat here during this section.
I want to know, is there a role?
Perry. What does it really look like? Combat side?
Yeah, did you increase the difficulty? Did that change?
Early on, I did, and I didn't feel like added anything.
Okay.
Difficulty, I can do it right now, though. Let's go on there, okay?
Okay, because yeah, we've seen you two shot pretty much everything here in front of us.
Yeah, and I don't, you know, this deep into the game,
it'll be interesting if that change in the game.
Yeah.
There we go, difficulty.
Very hard.
Oh, let's try it.
This is working for action game expert.
That's Andy.
No, that's you.
That's you right now.
No, no dodge roll, which I was bummed out about.
Okay.
You do have a shield, you don't have it right away.
You know, this is all stuff that unlocks.
Yeah.
If you notice over there, something we haven't talked about
in the kit, as the kid said.
I got that LT.
These are my fairy powers, right?
So right now I'm using this speed.
Whoa, okay.
But if I wanted to, you hit the bumper right,
and here's copy where it uses for puzzles,
where you split them off.
You could also use in combat scenarios,
and I haven't done it.
Ignite, this is where she would be on fire.
Again, more of a puzzle.
of igniting different stuff.
There's certain enemies and shields that it works on.
Sprint's what I'm using now.
Warp is wherever she is, you can warp too.
They have a lot of platforming stuff in here that.
Okay, it's easier to do that.
And then you have vacuum to suck up stuff around.
This, of course, is on left bumper.
You could also, though, go over here if you wanted this one.
Right bumper has all your different weapons
that you can switch out of the fly, too.
Yes, okay, okay.
Let's do we get, we're on very hard, which I don't think I ever did try.
Are you able to...
And again, usually, you know how games like this do it,
they just like, oh, they take more damage.
I was gonna ask you, I wonder if we're gonna see them with more health on that is right.
But I guess for you at this point, it's two-shotting every enemy.
It at least gives you four to six, let's say, hits and making it a fight, kind of, I guess.
Follow up as well.
Can you reflect projectiles?
I saw when you fought those two big guys, there was pink things coming at you, of course, playing Zelda.
I'm reflecting Gannendorf shots at him.
Yeah, what does that look like?
Your shield is the mirror shield.
So again, early on, no, but then eventually.
you unlock a Perry.
Nice, that's cool.
You get out of the right way, you can knock stuff back to them.
And some bosses require that, which again, I thought was real nice.
Bosses were a high point for this one.
I don't see them put in a boss rush.
How many bosses do you think?
A lot of them?
I wouldn't feel comfortable.
Enough to where early on, I was like, oh man, are they already repeating a boss?
Because they were.
Oh, okay.
It was like in a dungeon-y thing.
And then like the story bosses, no.
You get a bunch of course.
We'll see some combat here.
here, Live Reaction?
Oh, yeah.
You've played the 2D Zelda games.
I haven't played those.
What?
Really?
I haven't made those yet.
What is the differences between those and this
that are like strikingly different?
Is it just the story of being lost with Link and all that?
Or is there like, hey Mike, like the 2D Zelda games
are better than this because of that?
Better isn't the right word.
Okay.
Different, right?
Like I like this kind of, I don't want,
I love breakable weapons. I'm one of those guys.
Oh, and two D's elders, they're breakable weapons?
No, they don't have breakable weapons.
Oh, okay, okay.
So, like, one of the reasons, I'm comparing this very much to
Breath of Wilde together. Oh, okay, okay.
Where it's like, that's not what I want out of that.
I also love a more direct storytelling that I feel
breath and tears didn't necessarily give you.
You know, one of my, the reason I fell off of tears
and never rolled credits after 40-some hours, right, was that I walked
in and I'm like, I'm going to do all the shrines,
and I did so many shrines, but then I was like,
what is the narrative?
What's pulling me through the story,
that's on me, that's not on the game.
I know I talk to Tim all the time about his.
Bro, you got it.
You're gonna cry at you.
Oh, okay.
You took a lot of money.
Oh, wow.
He, okay, hits you really hard there.
Yeah, I'll open up for that I guess.
Okay.
Help back when he hit.
Some stuff's going on.
Some, you just got, somehow.
There you go, just got destroyed them very hard.
So they're a little bit harder to hit, yeah,
but they're doing a lot more damage.
It just has time around to you.
Yeah.
So this is another one I like about this one.
Yeah.
When you die in this game, right, you can go back to your last save or whatever, and it says
auto save, but it can be where you saved before, right?
And you can request revival.
So you can now start just using your coins to do this.
So like, if you're somebody like me who, you know, complains a lot about not wanting
to run it back.
I love that.
I got to a boss.
I finally got to wave three.
He died with one hit fuck, you know what I mean?
Rather than have to go to the start and go over again, you can spend the coin you
I have to get back in and go go.
Oh, that's nice, yeah, yeah.
Enemies at same health then, or is it like a reset of the fight?
No, it takes you, I mean, right here,
just pick me up with the same people who are dead, right?
That's cool.
That's nice.
Okay.
Yeah.
Now that I'm, now you want me to do it on very hard,
I'll do it, but I gotta tell, I can't, you gotta.
Yeah, now we gotta lock in on that one, okay,
interesting.
Pop up and get me.
Now, are there bosses that we'll see in this little temple
that you went into?
Where are we on?
So, it had question marks above it,
but I have cleared this one out.
Oh, okay.
This is a done deal for me.
So it's like, yeah, that treasure chest,
sorry, was the last thing I needed to get here.
The fact that you can see everything here tells you I've been here.
Okay.
But again, what they make travel very nice,
where it's like, okay, cool, you've been there.
There's a jumping point, you know,
fast travel back to the door.
You're on your way, you have to worry about it.
Same thing for boss temples,
or boss fights, usually right before the boss,
there's gonna be a little safe spot outside.
So you can be like, okay, cool, I wanna go.
And you go.
Okay.
Let's see how this connects.
Make your connection.
So you gotta come down here, Mike, can you go.
Oh, how do.
I get here yeah oh over here no oh you go oh over here Mike look there's a
some sort of gates yeah yeah so I'm gonna just save myself two seconds which is
okay okay yeah we're gonna go where you come back and we'll see what's up and that's the
breakdown of letting into a new area here yeah okay and so do your little cartography
what about the four different ages they have you know same map but different looks to
it we'll say yeah yeah but like what is the four different ages what's
drawing you to each.
It said, hey, just, I want to complete this whole area now,
and then I go to the next stage, complete that whole area.
You're going to be, the story will very much be like,
oh, man, you need to find this kind of thing.
Like, probably in the age of budding, probably in the other way.
Like, they're very, it's very handled of where you need to go.
And honestly, probably to a fault, right, of like,
I love the adventure of it, and I love the exploration.
So early on, I was like, I'm going to keep doing that.
And inevitably, you bump up against that,
wall we're like, I need a bomb. I don't have bombs yet. Clearly I'm going to have to blow this up.
And you got somewhere else, like I don't have whatever weapon they probably want me to use here.
It was that kind of thing. Yeah. So even enjoying that, I knew I had to strap in for the ride that
they're giving me. Okay. Which isn't bad, but it's just like, oh, okay, I was enjoying it
the other way. I noticed down below you have the compass slash map, but it's, there's nothing on it.
Is it always like that, or is that just because you're in a section that you don't have unlocked?
What's up with that?
I'll level with you.
I've never used it.
Never even look down at that bottom, right?
I mean, like, I don't know how much.
I think it's obviously giving you
there's a magic thing up there.
Of course, yeah, yeah.
Well, for the ferry.
There's a shortcut door down there.
Which is going to be key to this whole thing.
We've got to get into this chest.
We've got to get there.
So we're sealed here.
Yeah.
You have the southern caves.
That's bouncing me off there.
Maybe there's another connector in there.
So they show you the connectors no matter what,
even if you've not gone through?
Once you've pulled the fog back.
Oh.
Okay.
Like if, for instance, yeah, like, oh, that's a bad example.
But if that was going up north, they wouldn't have anything.
It would be like, hey, I have no idea.
This is, I guess it's only seen because you see that.
I can see that.
Okay, okay, okay.
What are some of your favorite areas of this map?
Because of course, we have some different biomes here.
Oh, I like it over here.
We'll still get this treasure chest.
I think, you know, over here we got a really nice snowy area.
Okay.
I'm a big fan of a snowy area.
I like that, yeah.
Get over there, have some fun.
Cool little pixel peak.
Exactly, exactly.
Come on over here.
And any party members ever join you?
Is it always Elliot by himself?
Always Elliot by himself.
Okay.
You know, you send off on a lot of missions and you meet a lot of people.
But you're solo adventuring this.
Anybody ever stand out?
We're like, oh, Mike, this character was fun.
Yeah, I don't want to name names.
There's a couple in the game.
So my thing with Octopath was meeting your party members,
meeting your town members, meeting your enemies,
all so well done, all so fleshed out.
For me, legitimately, there's just one couple in the game
that I think in an Octopath game
wouldn't rank that high in terms of it,
but in this, Land of the Blind, the One-Eyed King.
You know what I mean?
They're the closest I got to be like, okay, cool,
like I like you guys, I fuck with you guys.
I'm gonna protect you guys.
That was so good.
Land of the Blind of the One-Eyed King?
That was great.
Land of the Blind.
The One-Eyed King.
And big differences on...
I'm still kidding me, guys.
Yeah, you're kicking ass on this.
I have to be perfect on my parries and block you.
Yeah, so they're just hitting you harder, it's right.
Okay.
And big differences on all the different systems you played on?
Oh, I really mean-
You were jumping on devices, yeah.
No, no, no, yeah.
I had great stuff all the way through.
Okay, nice.
My rog ran great.
The razor killed it, and it also didn't overheat.
It didn't sound like a jet engine taking off,
which, you know, always the sign of what's going on with it.
You like Octo a lot, what are some things that you would want them to take from lessons learned into Octo?
Oh, great question.
Oh, wow, I like that question a lot.
Oh, shit.
See, yeah, they're getting old.
Yeah, you can change the difficulty as well if you like, because you're talking with me.
Yeah, I appreciate that.
I appreciate it.
We'll have to wait through it.
Oh, I can pay to come back.
There we go.
And what also is nice about it is you'll see.
Oh, no.
Interesting.
Maybe it's a lower difficulty thing where lower difficulty, if I die,
multiple times with the boss, the amount of money would go up.
Once I left that area, it would reset.
Oh, okay.
It's back up to 600 or whatever.
What was the question, sir?
Oh, bring, what would you bring into octo since you like that franchise?
Yeah.
Okay, well, my guess you're having great questions.
I like that.
Octopad zero, my favorite octop.
Okay.
Oh, okay, nice.
And I think part of it was making a character and being that character.
rather than the traditional, you're going to play eight different characters.
Yes, yeah.
So I would have really preferred as much as you hear me dog on Elliot all the time.
I hate his fucking hat.
I don't even like his little shawl.
I would love it if we could make our own character here.
For the next adventures of whatever, the next Millennium Teo,
whatever they want to call it, I was able to make my own hero.
You wanted to go the opposite way.
Well, I'd like them to keep that going forward, I guess.
Here, I'm sorry, I'm already trying to, you know,
Lundy Minnianian quarterback this game.
Which is good, too, because we want to know what you would like to see
in the sequel, we've talked about that a little bit,
but yeah, is there anything in this,
we're like, oh man, Octopath would really benefit from that.
Any system, anything?
I play that you love.
You know, I mean, this is honestly kind of a monkey paw situation.
Okay.
We're playing Octopath, you'd say, Greg,
what do you want the next game from?
I would say, keep everything, but make it action.
You want the absolute combat.
And now that I got it, I'm like, eh,
I miss the turnpies.
Okay, well, you know what I mean?
Well, I mean, like, you know, I felt more challenged
by Octopat, third-based stuff than I did here.
And even now, you're like, well, you're getting your ass kick.
I'm like, okay, I'm not, I'm talking to you,
and I'm not parrying.
Yeah, of course.
And I've never been the pari poppy.
That's not what it's about.
So, yeah, I don't know, Mike.
Octopath is so perfect.
That's great to hear.
Every one of those games has gotten so much better.
Okay.
Well, I don't know.
I wouldn't love it.
But in a future Oxpath, you would like to create Gregie.
I hope they keep letting me do that.
I thought that was really nice.
And again, that's a me thing.
Yeah.
I'm like that.
Nice.
Oh, another nice thing they do here is that it wasn't better.
When you get, like, the three-star
version of whatever, it just auto-equips.
So it's just, it's not like you have to remember it.
I was gonna ask you, let's talk about the inventory
and the gear here, right?
Is it overwhelming like Diablo or there's nice features
which like, hey, we just put on the best one,
just use this.
You know, one of the things we were talking about
in the review was, okay, it's kind of baby's first Zelda.
You know what I mean?
But I think even to a, we talk about Minecraft Dungeons
being baby's first action,
ARPG for Diablo, right?
I think this one's dumbed down too much
into the same way of like, you know,
Granted, now I'm playing in difficulty,
you saw me eat shit a couple times, right?
I never once use medicine.
Oh, okay.
I never once use the, hey, I need more health.
These are potions, yeah, yeah, okay.
Never did it, just never,
I think maybe because I don't mind
spending the coin if I die,
but also just because it wasn't challenging that way.
Same thing here where you unlock these
and they keep leveling up,
great, you never do anything with it.
I was bummed out, you know,
a lot of times in these games,
Diablo in particular, right?
Hey, I've done all this stuff,
I've got all this stuff, now I go sell all that stuff.
I'm going to make mad coin doing that.
Yeah.
No, no selling here.
You're not collecting stuff to go sell.
So you don't have a bag where I have to look at seven different items and start weighing them out.
It is your inventory and like that's...
When I find a better item, they're going to auto-equipped it.
That's it.
You'll never see the 20 other swords.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Oh, that's, yeah, that's nice.
Make it simple.
But I miss it.
I don't like that.
Again, like the kind of thing I'm looking for in these games, I want to be...
weighing the options?
Going.
I want to feel like I'm going to go grind out a bunch of monsters.
It's the same thing of like, you know, you go kill these things, you pick up all the loot, you go trade it in, you sell.
It's like, okay, one of the things for my fable preview, where I was like, can I just sit here and hear me a blacksmith all day?
Yeah, yeah, if you want to be a psychopath.
I'm like, I would really enjoy it.
That would be a fun way to go make a bunch of coin and be ready to go.
Okay, yeah.
Yeah, it's almost you ask the question of like, do you even need extra swords and just make it one sword forever and you just kind of go with it?
it then. But okay. So those are things that you're finding. You have
their kind of currency, blood vials for your health.
Yeah. What is that? Is that similar to Zelda where it's a big deal finding one
or they scattered everywhere? You know, I think I have found one
and then the shops have them in the bottle. Oh no shit. You're buying the bottle
that you can then fill with the magic, you know, energy around or wherever the
fuck else for the hell stuff. Okay. But I never did it really. You know what I mean?
Really? Yeah, just didn't need to. Didn't feel any else.
take you back. I'll show you the shop, okay?
Did you notice your feet leave a trail on the snow? That's cute. It is cute. That is very well done.
Shout out. I agree with that. I agree.
Let's go by a safekeeping game. How, you know, as someone who hasn't played
Octopath since the first one, do they have giant maps not like this? Are you getting the big
open world vibe from your octopaths? Yeah, yeah. Zero was like that. Okay. Tons of stuff
to go run around and do. Nice. Here, I'll bop in the shop for you.
Okay, cool. It's like, yeah. So you got your,
recovery medicine and different versions of yeah of course but you need to have the
empty vial for it I guess I probably already bought the vial up here earlier yeah
thought I might need that yeah some charms Jim okay fish they want me to feed cats a
lot oh okay that's are very important this game gotta have the cats so why would I
feed a cat I don't fucking know okay I think it was some loyalty thing I don't know
what he's fucking talking about like because they're already here yeah I already
like me but here you go see and then boom
I got 23 now, so I'll get a better quiver.
Oh, okay.
I can hold them right.
Yeah, you got more.
Okay.
You see me working, I got that golden egg coming up.
What's up with that golden egg?
Yeah, an increased amount of money drop by 100%.
Oh, okay.
The metal of Katzenmeister.
Nice.
See what you did there?
I see.
They put the cat in there.
I like that.
Okay.
Because all the cats in order to true...
All right.
Okay.
And so now you're going to go just to go explore.
Now you have to go all four ages.
Oh, yeah.
And just go around up to cats, say,
I'm your friend now and then they come back with you.
Okay, okay.
Check out of this guy's movie.
What is your favorite age?
Do you have one?
No, they all run together.
I just don't think there's really,
again, they didn't do anything interesting with it.
I thought again, oh, I'm going to go back to this.
There was one point where I went,
spoilers, I guess, not really.
But like the first one you went to,
Elliot was so thought it was the past.
He was so hung up on it being the past.
I'm like, clearly this is going to be the future.
And it wasn't.
It was just the past.
I'm like, okay.
Oh, shit.
Like, I want to go and I want to do the thing where, like,
we get in a big fight,
and I get smashed into the wall
and the walls cracked the rest of the game.
Oh.
You just don't get that.
How is Elliot's voice acting?
We don't like the fairy.
How's Elliot?
No, he's fine.
Again, I think he's, you know, doing the best with the...
Let's not... the voice actor is great.
He does a great job.
Elliot is a character.
I'm an adventurer.
I do good because it's good to do.
It's like, oh, I was talking earlier to Jen about it
when I first started playing.
I'm like, this is why people think they hate Superman.
I'm a good guy.
I'm the Boy Scout.
Yeah, yeah.
I just do good to do good.
You know what I mean?
Like, okay, Elliot.
Like, you're a nerd.
Nobody wants to hang out.
You dork.
Shout to that water looks good, though.
Oh, here?
Yeah, water looks nice.
Yeah, the game's gorgeous.
Yeah, game looks great.
But it was that thing of, again, like, I'm playing it.
And I was like, man, I got to go back to Octopin.
I got to finish that true.
I love that game so much.
But it was like, because this is good for sure, but like.
So you hope this team will get an opportunity to make a second one and prove on this?
This team, like, I'll be with to the end of time.
You put out a game from them, I'm all about it.
I'm all about it.
And I don't care what genre it is,
I don't care, even though it's a little bit different,
but the guy who does this is consulting on it or whatever,
it's kind of confusing for me.
That Final Fantasy residence.
Ah, yes, yes, yes.
Yeah, let's go.
All right, cool.
Octopath-looking Final Fantasy, I'm in, let's go.
I'll be a part of that.
We're gonna go get this cat.
Okay, let's go get this cat.
And there's a jump button in this.
I see you hop it all around.
Yeah.
Okay.
Like I said, I don't know if you'll see it in any of the stuff
will do today but lots of platforming in different questions how you hurt me already
I was gonna ask you yes so a lot of lots of platform how is the exploration is it
rewarding or like you kind of said they kind of dumped it down where it's like
here's where it's at just get there early on I would walk into dungeons that oh man
this place is big this is gonna be over and it wasn't and I know overall me might
sound bad and it came of course I can think of growing up playing Zelda
Dungeons where I'm like what the fuck do you want me to do yeah yeah
like O'Brien let me your guide I don't know what you know what you know
But this is so no, this is, the exploration, it feels good to pull back the fog of war and find the cat and do the thing
Yeah, but it's not like I accomplished something here
I followed the thing and I got the thing. Here's the fucking cat. Great. So I walk over this cat? Yeah, we're friends
And again back to like not you know wanting to come back and is like how many more cats do I want to do? How many more cats do I want to talk about?
Do you want to come get this you know whatever charm like no I'm not hurting for money nor am I hurting for experience or
I don't feel like I haven't been...
Okay, so what we should talk about is the Magicide again.
Okay, but go back.
Let me...
Let's get out of here.
And I'll take you back.
Because again, I already introduced the idea of how Magosite works and what you can do with it.
But I'll take you to the actual Magocyte guy.
Okay.
Because like, again, Magosite early on, very early on, was the goal for me of what I was doing, okay?
So...
Let's go a little way back here.
We're gonna go talk to the magicite man.
You pick up the magistrate crystals throughout.
Okay.
Then there's a magistrate man over here.
So, you'll find the things you've already seen me equipped, and I talked about, right?
Okay, this is worth four, and I have, you know, I think you start off with 10, but maybe it was six.
I forget any of the total.
And those are affecting slash leveling up certain weapons you use.
Effecting, not leveling.
Okay.
So then there's this guy over here, right?
So now you can go form.
Originally, you only had this exclamation.
Okay.
Come in and say, okay, I have, it takes five, and they even do this.
Now you have them for the different weapons you want to use, right?
So if you are, as me, I'm all about sword.
I'm all about the boomerang.
Okay.
So I find myself now just pouring my magistrate in there.
So you come up here and I go, you know what, form as much as I can, right?
You see my rank down there.
As my form rank goes up, I get better odds on how many stars I'm going to get, right?
So it's this idea of like, that's an XP filling in for me to go through and do all this magicide business.
Okay.
So I go in here.
Now the cat's going to spit out all these different things that'll be just for,
sword because I went that.
Yeah.
Oh, I'm the top frame of that first time.
What do you need the first time?
Anyways, and you see all the stuff I've unlocked.
Now, a lot of these are gonna be duplicates.
Attack up, no.
I'm gonna make him this.
A lot of these will be duplicates
and they'll just be, boom, turn back into magicite fragments
and back into my pouch.
So this way you could go through and just get new stuff over.
Okay, okay, yeah, yeah.
Anyways, though, so stick with me.
I know I'm throwing a lot at you.
You can disassemble if you want more magicide crystals,
never solve the need.
But more importantly, a magicide box.
Like I said
When you start, you have the number one
And it can only hold
Six things
Okay, yeah, yeah
Cost limit
As you now go through
I was earning the money
I was then going back here and
All right, give me the next box
Give me the next box
So I can make myself
More and more and more and more powerful, right?
I did that for a long time
Or it would be, I'd be tracking
how much money I needed
Okay, let's go, you see
It's expensive obviously
But to what we're talking about
Even now putting on the hardest difficulty
You eventually turn that corner, you're like, well, I don't need to work this anymore.
And so you could have upgraded that sword one from 45 costs to 50 cost,
which then you would be able to equip another five or seven,
depending on which one you want to add on to this.
Okay, okay.
Do you know if there's a max number on that?
Yeah, I mean, I imagine, I'm guessing it stops at 10, right?
That kind of seems like these kind of games.
Oh, okay, level 10 box.
Okay, yeah, yeah.
On level 7, there's level 8, I imagine.
Okay, okay.
Greg, we are winding down today's
Kind of Funny Gamescast plays for Elliot
in The Millennium Tale.
Is there anything I didn't ask you?
Is there anything you want to show off
one more time before we get out of here?
When you think back on your review,
of course, you can go check out that review
right now, kind of funny games cast
with Andy, Roger, and Greg,
talking all things Elliot's and his hats.
Of course, we would love for you to check that out.
But yeah, if you want to learn more,
go check out that review.
But Greg, when you think about your time with me showing this off and the audience actually getting to see it live in action as well, is there anything that you might have missed?
I don't think so. I think I've done a good job telling you and showing you the highlights of it. Again, like I said, for me, a 6.5.
Okay, almost good. Not by any stretch of the imagination a bad game. You know what I mean? I think you could find a lot of fun. I saw somebody earlier saying they've been playing it all day. Oh, there it is.
Lightning Magma. This game is dope as fuck having a lot of fun with it. I'm glad.
Like, again, there's fun to be had here.
It just didn't hit the highs I wanted.
Which I don't think is shocking coming off the fact that Octopath Travel Zero was my favorite game of last year.
So it's like, I just wanted that kind of action delivery story here.
It didn't.
Wow, that game was last year.
Holy cow.
Okay.
Well, we'll, of course, have more kind of funny content coming your way.
Tomorrow we had a great lineup of games and streams and, of course, podcasts all day.
and throughout the week.
We'll be back tomorrow with more fun.
And on top of that, we have plenty more games cast plays
on the way in the future.
So thanks for tuning in.
Thanks for rocking with us.
And, of course, leave a comment down below.
Are you jumping into Elliott's new game?
Are you wearing the hat?
Are you wearing the hat?
Let us know.
It's like Spider-Man.
Anybody can wear the hat.
I'll see you on the next one.
Goodbye, everyone.
