But this week, Nintendo putting out their sales numbers and they're inching closer to take it over, man. Where did they find the extra 5 million unit sales for PS2? Because I'm convinced, I'm with the conspiracy theories out there, that they're doing that just so Switch doesn't catch them. I love it. I love it, that. But like, come on, what a race.

What a race. To the goat consoles? Mm-hmm. How much the S&ES sale? Not that much. No way, yeah. I should have put a DVD player in it, you know? Come on.

All right. Numbers are so small back then. Exactly. It's crazy. So Super Nintendo, 49 million, Xbox 1 above that at 58. One surprising one for me,

the PlayStation Portable at 80 million. Yeah, no, that sounds about right, right? The PlayStation Portable sold 30 more million than the Super Nintendo.

Yeah. The BsB had a moment, man. I mean, well, trust me, I was the moment. When you contextualize it like that, though,

that is kind of crazy. It's like Super Nintendo. But again, games are some more, we always talk about like, Rono Trigger, less than a million sold. What are we talking?

Games just get more popular over time, more people are playing them. And the handhelds, like handhelds just sell. Not all of them. Not all of them. Wait, which one are you talking about? Vita. Oh, yeah, you're right. I forgot about that one.

We're talking about the PlayStation 2. We're talking about the PlayStation 2. Of course, we're doing the shit list that we teased last week, but we got so carried away in conversation that we decided to pun it until today, because we got to talk about it. The best PS2 games of all time. This is a shit list episode. The shit list is where I go online. I find a top 10 list

and bringing back to Tim Gettys and Bear Courtney is on the ones and twos and we judge it for your amusement. This best PS2 games list is from IGN.com. It was put together by the IGN staff with I'm pretty sure you just mean and Simon Cardi.

The OG list was put out October 13th, 20203. However, it was updated October 26th, 2025. I'm going to read from the first blurb they have here on IGN's website where they say for the PS2's 25th anniversary that was last week we're looking back at the games that made this console truly iconic these are the games

that push the technological and cultural boundaries of the era becoming unforgettable experiences that still hold up today from toe-tapping jam sessions to city crossing crime epics these are the 25 best PS2 games now Tim say that first part of the toe-tapping What? The to tapping jam sessions. The toe tap, you know what they're talking about. Guitar Hero. Oh, okay.

DDR. DS2? Yeah, it was. But it was on it, but it wasn't. I know. That's not what people think of it. Yeah.

before that was Harmonics. Harmonics said when I do rock bands, but I think for the sake of this list, I won't be mad at it being two. So is a non-securter. But like from the years, oh-5 to 07, I have essentially a media

a blackout because that's where I moved to Nigeria for a couple of years and went to boarding school. Didn't have TV and boarding school and so like I missed out on crazes like Ben 10 and Naruto. But also I got but also I

got back to the U.S. and I swear to God everybody had this motherfucking guitar in their homes I got back to the west and everybody was into Ben 10 and Naruto. Everybody was into Ben 10 Naruto and everybody had guitar hero and I swear to God, it was like the world had changed.

Yeah. It was like everything was different. It did change. It felt like King of the Hill where the new season, it felt like that. There's plastic instruments everywhere. Oh, my Lord. Shout out Guitar Hero, too. Hell yeah.

Okay. A question I want to lead off with, though. Is there a definitive number one on the best PS2 games list? Yes. Yeah. It's a metal year solid three. Wow. Right?

Like, I think, wow. We're talking about the top 25 from IGN. That means a lot. That means like there is so much conversation and like they need to make sure that this is a well thought out represented list like that like they can stand behind and that the majority of people can look at and be like you're right. And I'm not, there are probably a couple other games. I will I will counter your metal your solid three with GTA either vice city or San Andreas.

I don't. I think that for as amazing as those games are, I think this is a classic conundrum where because there are multiple ones and I don't think any of them are the definitive best one it would be San Andreas that it'll make the list here but if you compare San Andreas and Metal Gear Solid 3 I think there are just too many factors

that go into giving the nod to Metal Gear where just great theft auto five I think that that has more factors that when you put that on a list compared to like a Last of Us or something. I think there's a higher chance of GTA 5 beating a Last of Us than there is GTA 3 trilogy beating Melagosol. How do you

factor in Melagosolid 2? And that's what I was going to counter with both of you. I think MGS2 might be the number one. No. Three is the favorite. Three is the favorite best. And that's three is my three is my favorite, but I feel like I usually on the opposite end of the conversation where people usually prefer two. Here's my thing,

right? I look at these four games. MGS 3, GTA San Andreas, Vice City, and MGS2. and based on both popularity, but then also, like, critical, I am, like, trying to be the, not odd man out,

but, like, I'm in here looking at this as, like, what is the fucking one? I can see any of these games being number one. Yeah, but that's the thing. NBS2, riding. Like,

yeah, but it's undeniable that, like, that there's a tarnish on that. But this list was made in 2025, where I guess, update in 2025 with, like, the knowledge of how much they nailed what was going forward. You can look back and be like, oh, Ryden wasn't that big of like a deal, right?

And also, MGS2 ages like a fine wine. Every day, a new line from that game. Story-wise, yes. Gameplay-wise, no. Metal decile three ages like a fine wine, gameplay-wise, and story-wise. Wow. How long story-wise?

Actually, you know what? I'm sure MGS 3 and 2 probably have similar problems as far as like, because when I think of the story-wise of MGS-3, I think about how. much sexualization there is a certain character that's every that's that is a fact that's true for all of them

yeah but but here's the thing about GTA is that GTA is bad all around like in terms of that sorry middle result two and middle of oh I see I see I see okay that's fair that's fair but all right so obviously is are we missing one I think Shadow the Colossus is the other one that's

in high contention but that's not number one I think that's easily top five I could if they want to make a statement and talk about like it being the clear video games are our game for the PS2 right like it could be but I would be very surprised

if it was number one. So I want people to super chat in with what your definitive number one is and why all throughout there is there a possibility of Kingdom Hearts too? I think it's on the list I don't think it's on the list for sure. Real quick one for you bless Predator Badlands which I'm seeing again tonight because I enjoyed it so much

in 40X it's about to rock my fucking world when we did in review I was saying that like there were elements of shadow a surprising amount of shadow the colossus oh predator badlands and everyone on the panel's like what the fuck are you taught they kind of gave me shit for it and then i saw an interview with dan tractenberg what they were being asked i think by ig n what were inspirations for the movie and he said shadow the colossus no way and i feel very smart well now i got to watch this movie you got to watch it you're vindicated all right so let's let's throw some more games out forget the number one even though i think we're

Burnout 3. Oh, Tony Hawk 3. I'm going to say burnout 3 as well. Devil May Cry 3. EMC 3. Persona. 4? Yeah.

It should be 3. NBA Street volume 3 or volume 2. Yeah. I was thinking about that again last night. About how like they just turned on out of nowhere for NBA Street volume two specifically. Like they made NBA Street and people were like,

oh, that's fun. They made NBA Street volume two and is one of the greatest games of all time. And then three at home court, they just don't got the song. Like something about two just fucking puts it on another level

from video games. Fucking ascended for one development cycle. Um, all right. Let's Grand Trismo three A spec. Cool. Three A spec. Um,

what other rock star games are there? I know there's a lot. Bully. There's Bully could make it. I think Bully makes it. I think that'd be a lower. Like lower, yeah. It's a fair amount of games.

If they're fucking real overhead, IGA, the Warriors will make the list. If you are some real ones, it's not going to make the list. Yeah, I don't know. But if they're real ones, though. Okay. SSX tricky.

That's a good point. Where do we stand on Resident Evil 4? It's a GameCube game. Yeah, it's a GameCube game. If Resident Evil 4 is on this list, I'm mad. They're not real ones. Yeah, but like.

If the Warriors, is on this list and RE4s on this list a year plus later Yeah, but like You're made It's the top 25 Would you put GTA Vice City

On the best Xbox games list? I mean, did it come to Xbox? Yes Probably It's the same situation I don't like that And I get it sure Fine but like

Yeah, that sounds about right. We got to talk about the mascot platformers because we got no less than 15 of them on the console. But which ones make the list? Which Ratchet and clank, euphemism. Ratch and clank just but stuff. Oh my God. Ratchet and clank reverse cowgirl.

Which one are they going to go with? That's fucking hilarious. That's how they were naming those games back then. You're right. Up your arsenal? I think going. Commando is the fan favorite. I could be wrong about that because I often get them confused as well,

but I think Ratch and Clan Going Commandos is the one on the list for PS2. Going Commando. Thinking about it just from my naughty dog video earlier this year, I have a good feeling Jack 2 will be on this list. It should not be on this list. It is definitively a bad game, especially if you're updating this list for 2025. It should be Jack 3.

Sly. Yeah. I could see a sly. We need somebody at this office to play. sly and like be that but maybe mike my loves to do that for the audience because whatever sly comes up we're all like yeah um yeah i yeah i i don't know about the jackson and sly is like that's

about the cyclonauts isn't that xbox exclusive was that on ps2 it came to ps2 but i don't know if that was well that was a weird one right where wasn't xbox supposed to publish that but then they fell through it ended up being someone else who published it, let's see there's so many games on this fucking platform Yeah, it came to PS2 Only it was only two months later

Okay That's a tough one If you're a real one you put it on the list I don't care where but you would put it on the list I don't think it shows up the list No Like nothing even about the exclusivity stuff at all there Just I don't think it makes it there

more than the rest Capcom isn't standout. MVC2 was on PlayStation 2, but I don't think of that as a... Soul caliber 2. Greencast. I know we're thinking game Q is a link, but I fuck with my guy Hayachi. Yeah, I don't know if other people do.

But you know what, fuck it. I'm not mad at that. If you're going fighting in representation, if you're picking a game. Yeah, all right, all right. I mean, you're not going to pick any of the Mortal Kombat's. A weird one. but one that weirdly has had this big legacy build up over the last almost decade now beyond good and evil

if you're talking about like yeah kind of like not like super big uh kind of zelda 3d platformer action fucking puzzler game right but the people who played that really fuck with it yeah so i could see someone fighting for it to to get on the list what's the the football game that people say is like the best one of all time Madden O4? No no The 2K 1 2K5? Yeah Was that PS2? I mean Isn't that another

That's not one I associate with PS5 But I also am not a sports guy like that so Because I could either that or Madden O4 Madden O4 Madden O4 I can see on the list because that is the Madden of that generation And it was like PS2 specifically Yeah

Yeah, 2K5 came to PS2, but I don't know what the association is. Either one, I'm going to write down both next to each other, one of them. Timmy, Prince of Persia. Yeah, Sands of Time. I think so. Sands of Time, okay. Prince Prisor's Sands of Time. And with that, I'm looking at a super chat here from Cozy Bear saying Jack 1, I'd say, is more likely than two and three.

And I agree with that. Because I think if you're just making the top list, like, it does get kind of weird of like the specifics. and like, I know you know better. The reason I would bring up Jack 2 is when people think about the Jack series, they think about the open world or like City GTA vibe of that series that was only in two and three. People won't think about the 3D platform or collectathon that the first one was, right? I disagree. I think I think the opposite of that.

I think you're in the minority on that one, honestly. I think if they think about the GTA Open Sandbox thing, it's a negative. it. No, they think about it as a positive because that was like, I think you've heard me too much talk about like, maybe, looking back on it because like people look back on that game and I was one of them for the longest time. And you know, Janet Garcia was one of them for the longest time of like when you think about that GTA sandbox city being able to play that kind of game as a kid who maybe you weren't allowed to play a GTA, like that was home for you, right? Haven City was like the coolest thing ever. How many people have actually gone back to Jack 2 since then and just think about it as like,

oh, that's an iconic one of the best games because it was this like QC3D platformer or whatever, but like Nickelodeon kids vibe that got edgy, you know. So that's why I think about Jack 1. We'll see. I don't believe that game exists. I've never seen gameplay definitely done this before um yeah you're gonna like look on the YouTube search page and like every video

We're one in one so far. Hell yeah. Coming in at number 24, we got. Wow. Spider-Man 2. I'm happy he made the list. I just expected it higher. I mean, I think maybe that's where we were at as kids playing Spider-Man 2.

Because Spider-Man 2 felt like a revolutionary experience to me. And I think that was also me playing. I played Spider-Man on PS-1. I played Spider-Man 1 on PS-T. to you, believe it or not, the movie game. Yeah, that was one of my first PS2 games. Yeah, that was the game that I played at Freddy's house who lived next door. He had an Xbox.

Shout out my guy, Freddy. And, like, that I think was where my obsession with Spider-Man started. Because that game is the definition of sauceless. Yeah, but, like, that was my first introduction. And I hadn't even watched the movie yet. Wow. Yeah, I was just playing the Spider-Man movie video game. And so, like, I got so many.

At number 22, we got persona 3. Wow. Way too fucking low. Yeah. You know what? I appreciate it on the list. That tells me, persona 4 is going to be really high.

Oh, see, I was going with, we're not getting persona 4. I think we get both. I mean, I hope we get both. Coming in in number 21, Kingdom Hearts 2. Whoa. See, this feels low to me.

What's up? All right. How are we feeling about the list so far? I love it. Solid. I think this is very solid so far. It's one of those, you know, you have like your specific vision of what the PS2 is.

And so many of these games that we've listed already feel like what I grew up with. So it's one of those like, damn, what else is this list? Yeah. We've got 19 games left. And we've not missed one, right? Did we write down time slitters? No, you're right, right. We did not write time switters, though.
