Welcome to the Kind of Funny Games cast for Thursday, August 6, 2026.
I'm one of your host, Andy Cortez, alongside Tim Gettys.
See, I said Cortez.
I didn't say Cortez.
Yeah, this time you didn't hit it hard.
Don't feel bad about it.
Well, I just said Andy Cortez.
Yeah.
Which is like, you know, even if I don't say Cortez, you don't got, you know, you could say Cortez.
Well, I want to be clear, I never had a problem with the Cortez part.
So then why do you have a problem?
problem with a...
Exactly.
I don't know.
I'm just telling you.
It's a mouth feel thing.
It's more an ear feel of my mouth feel.
A year feel your mouth feel.
I got cauliflower.
Let your mouth feel your ears.
Color in your ear.
Or like a cauliflower ear.
I have like,
I have some shit in my ear.
I got to see a doctor about it.
I am.
There's just stuff in my ear.
Is that what cauliflower ear is?
I thought it was when you get punched and it gets all fucked up.
Well, I guess I got punched somehow.
It was from when Barrett slapped me like eight years ago.
What I worked in IGN?
It was a long standing.
Yeah, it took a while to develop.
Tim, he was being a bitch about Destiny 2, okay?
It's really just puts you where we were in life.
It's really just puts you where, like, it's a place that dive.
I'm sorry that you left while the raid came out, all right?
I'm sorry.
Andy, we just did Game Sailor together.
Hey, one of the best episodes we've ever done.
Really?
I thought yesterday is much better.
I don't think it's just that good if I'm being real.
But we were there.
I was just trying to be contentious about Nintendo facts.
and I was like, why am I being,
it's, it's, I had the realization
as I was doing it, that Tim, that Nick had the day later
of like, why was I so mad about Fast and Fears 5?
Why was I acting that way with Fast 5 in our interview?
Yeah, you were bringing up salient points, you know?
Some people said that.
Yeah, this was not your Fast 5 moment.
I'll tell you that.
I'll tell you that.
But during Eames Daly, at some point,
I think we were talking about Minecraft Switch 2 edition,
And you're like, Tim, remind me on Gabe's cast to tell me about a dream I had last night.
Oh, right, right, right.
Last night I had a dream that I grew a second penis.
I have questions.
And I think it was inspired by the growth on Mike's belly.
Did not expect that.
Didn't expect that.
You know, it could be inspired by many things.
But I have been thinking about the growth on Mike's belly a lot.
the last couple days because I had to look at it.
I didn't have to, but I got to look at it
during the Halo stream. I was telling
Gia about it and she's like, Tim, I don't, this is
bad. And I'm like, I know it's bad.
I know. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Because for me, like, in my dream, I'm
naked and I'm looking at,
I'm looking at, and I'm like,
damn, I have a growth here. That's like some sort of bump.
Okay. There's something down there.
Question. Yeah. Where's here?
Next to my other penis. Oh, okay.
Yeah. Okay.
So there's a growth in you're there. I'm like, oh, man,
this thinks
I'm this is that's gonna require surgery or something
there's just like there's something underneath the skin
that I'm like your first your first fear surgery
like what the fuck is this like this is gonna put me out for
weeks or whatever I'm gonna do surgery
what a pain in the asses is all gonna be I'm like dreading all this
and then it starts growing like
like and I'm while I'm playing basketball
and I'm hooping out there
and then I notice it kind of fully growing in
because the team like I end up
I end up hitting the showers.
And I think that comes from an earlier conversation in the week where I asked, Mike,
did you ever shower at school for athletics?
Because I always avoided it because I didn't want to see Wieners.
Did people really do that?
I didn't want people to see my Wieners.
Oh, yeah, yeah.
Oh, I was talking about more middle school.
High school was like definitely you do.
Middle school, I was like, would you do it?
And so anyway, I hit the showers or whatever.
And I'm there like showering and I'm, I just, it was growing.
And it like actively grew.
And then it fully grew.
And I was like, I think it's bigger than the other one.
It's really, it got bigger.
It was a crazy time, Tim.
Yeah, this is a crazy one.
Oni Musha, preview.
Yeah.
You got to play it.
I feel like this is the third preview you've seen for this game.
No, it's not actually.
This is my second.
Oh.
Oh, I guess I'm thinking back to how long ago it was where I got to play this,
which then became a demo that they released, and it was the same thing.
Yeah, the same one from Pax West or whatever.
Something like that.
Yeah.
Yeah.
There's a demo out there.
currently that you can still play on all
consoles. Maybe
not the Switch 2. I think Switch 2 doesn't have it
because they were making a big deal that
this is the first time people could play
only Moosh on Switch 2, which I did not get to do, but I saw
other people play. Okay.
So you didn't get the motion control. No, but they
do have motion controls for the sword swipes
and all that stuff, which seems kind of neat.
It's locked to 30 on Switch 2,
which I think is actually a good thing because
some of the Capcom games on Switch
so far, Switch 2 so far have been
like a little inconsistent trying to
That 60, so I think Lachnan 30 is probably the right move for this game.
And for Sebastian out there.
Yeah, Sebastian is going to be so stoked.
I want worse.
Give me 15, actually.
The demo that we've now both played, and a lot of people have played themselves,
is kind of like going through a village, getting to the temple,
and then there's a boss fight.
And it ends.
What I got to play was two hours starting at that point.
Okay, right after the very charismatic boss.
Exactly.
Okay.
The little story beats, and then I got to go on after that.
that got to play through.
All up says we moved on too fast.
It really was just kind of said as like, it's an aside.
Here we are.
I got to play between two and three hours of the game.
And yeah, it was all new content.
It was all stuff that I have not played before.
Gotcha.
Very, very cool.
So it was another demo at some point,
but it was at Summer Game Fest.
So I didn't get to play that one.
that might be what you're thinking of.
But that was just a boss fight of this.
Okay, gotcha.
Yeah.
So this is something you've been looking forward to for quite some time.
Yeah, man.
And you've always been very, you know,
you're going into it with a lens of like,
this isn't going to be the only motion that I know,
but it's the only musha that it kind of has to be for this day and age.
Yes.
All the things I've said about this game,
this previews just made me really triple down on.
Okay.
But, and let me take a step back to reiterate what I've been saying, which is I love the only Mocha games.
Like, they are definitely like my, some of my core memories on PlayStation 2, like growing up, like, I, me and my friends, me and my friend Curran, loved these games.
Like they were games that we played, looked forward to the sequel, watched every trailer, read every preview.
Like, we were so, so, so in on these games.
And I, there's just something about them that I loved.
I mean, there's a lot of things about them.
They were literally, it was a Resident Evil kind of spin off.
Like, it is a survival horror game, at least the original one was,
and it literally had the tank controls.
And it was essentially, what if Resident Evil had Samurai
and, like, if the zombies were like, demon samurai,
and like, that's cool as hell, right?
And then they also always had this, like, very fun tone
of just over-the-top, flamboyant bad guys.
Like, the,
amount of things that we recently played Halo campaign evolved.
And Blessing was very surprised at the tone of the game
because he thought it was going to be a bit more sci-fi serious.
When we're Gears of War.
And it was serious.
And then there's the grunts that are just goofy as hell, right?
There's three-four-three guilty spark.
Like there is these elements that really kind of create the unique identity of Halo.
And I think Oni Musha has that similar thing going for it,
where it is very heightened levels of survival horror and death.
and they're demons invading a town
and there are these poor families
that their son was just ripped into hell.
Like, you know, they take that stuff very seriously,
but then there'll be these bad guys
that are so over the top and so just like they're,
not over the top in the like Saturday morning cartoon
villain monologue type way,
but more just like in the,
they all have their one weird unique gimmick thing about them
and they like lean into it.
This guy's really into scarves.
A lot of the dialogue.
The dialogue's just very, very, flamboyance the only word I keep coming back to, right?
And I just, I love it.
There's something about that that, that's always kind of like tickled me.
And, you know, going back playing Oni Musa 1 and 2 as they've remastered them in recent years, like the last decade, but two was like last year.
The game is hold up for the nostalgia fun of it, but like I would never recommend anybody play it.
Like, it's such a moment in time.
I love them so much.
I really hope that they remake three or remaster three.
because that one goes off the fucking wall.
We got Jean Reno.
They go to Paris.
It's nuts.
Like current day Paris?
Yes.
The game is a time travel game where you play as two characters.
You're Saminosa, the main character from the first game, and you're Jean Reno.
Wow.
Okay.
And he has a whip.
And he's in modern day Paris.
And then they kind of switch spots.
It's like, it's fucking wacky as hell.
Yeah, I saw Jasek in the Twitch chat says they're DMC villains.
Mm-hmm.
Would you agree with that kind of like campiness or whatever?
Yes.
I even think even more so.
Okay.
Right.
But normally the protagonist isn't Dante.
Like the protagonist is very serious.
And the protagonist is like trying to help the people.
That's all the background to this.
They're now making a new Onimusha game in 2026.
And they're taking a lot of what made the franchise special before,
but really making this a lot more appealing to mainstream gamers.
And I think that it is the right move.
And I'm very excited for this.
every time I played it each time more and more, I'm like, oh, this game's going to rock.
Like, I was a little concerned for a while that like this wasn't going to hit with the Andes of the world.
After this demo, I'm like, or a preview, I'm like, you know what?
I think Andy's going to love this game.
I don't think it's going to be Sekaro to you or one of your soul's games.
But I do think that overall you're going to have a really great time playing through this game.
And I think it's going to continue Capcom's trend this year of putting out absolute bangers.
The thing about Riemusha that I love the most is the concept of,
of the souls.
And you have this gauntlet on your arm and you,
after you kill the enemies,
their souls will come up.
Some of them are for healing you.
Some of them are for,
you know,
powering up your magic or whatever it is or like experience.
There's a bunch of different types of souls.
And you need to kind of stop in place and hit a button.
It used to be circle and you'd suck in the souls and it would come in.
Left trigger now, right?
Or something like that.
Yeah.
But there was always this kind of risk versus reward of you're stopped motionless while you're
sucking the souls.
in the middle of these combat arenas where you have six, seven enemies around you.
So you would be like, slice, slice, slice, slice, get away from them positioning wise to get the souls in.
And it'd be this really cool thing of like, this isn't simply you picking up loot.
Exactly.
Yeah.
And it's like you need to kind of, the souls will disappear after time.
So it's like you need to be strategic about getting to them and getting them in your gauntlet before they disappear.
And I always just found that so fun because it's like you'd be fighting a guy,
sucking the souls,
you need to stop sucking it to fight another guy.
The souls start drifting a little bit,
and then you have to suck them back in,
like, very, very...
Luigi's Mansion.
You know what?
Kind of, yeah.
This game redefines how that all works.
It's on L2 now.
You can do it while you're moving.
So it kind of takes away a lot of the
kind of back and forth,
push, and pull that I enjoyed so much
about the old games because of their control scheme
and the tank controls
and how those games were made.
But they redefine it in a way here,
specifically with this boss fight,
that I'm like, oh, I'm very interested in how they go forward with this,
because this boss fight is just like, he's like a soul eater.
So you attack him a whole bunch and then his belly starts to glow.
It hits a certain point where like a bunch of souls will come out.
But you need to suck them in before he sucks them in because it'll overpower him.
And like, you need them because the more you get the more,
it's kind of the push and pull of like a stagger system.
That's a neat way to play with that.
It's using the soul sucking.
I'm going to suck your soul.
But anyways.
Love that stuff so much.
I immediately was like,
oh,
this is a great example of modernizing and redefining
elements and concepts from the original games,
but in a way that just is more modern
and more relevant to current gamers that have had,
you know,
at this point,
I think many different iterations of action games
and of boss-based fighting or combat games, right?
And an interesting thing about this game that I think is going to turn a lot
people off is how
disparate the
boss fights are from the
in between
fighting a bunch of just random enemies
getting to the next boss fight stuff.
The boss fights are very difficult.
Okay. And
you know,
I'm sure they're cakewalks to some
people. They were not for me.
And both of the
bosses that I fought took me. And this guy beat cup,
Ed. And I did be cuffed. That's crazy.
But I had to fight those bosses many, many times.
to do that. I beat this boss.
Okay, but how many times did it take you to beat this boss?
Not that many. Not too many.
It's not the hardest thing ever, but I guess the point I'm trying to make is that the
boss fights are difficult. The rest of the game is very easy.
And it is interesting where it's like, these are sacro boss fights and this is Devil May
Cry stylish action in between.
That's not a bad thing, though, because the stylish action side of it, this game, so cool.
And it's cool in a different way than Dante's shooting his guns,
massive combos and all that.
It reminds me a lot of Sifu in the way that your positioning matters a lot.
And there's so many unique animations.
When he, so much of the game is Perry's and so much of the game is blocking at the right time,
it feels like Hades has unlimited dialogue.
It feels like he has unlimited animations.
Wow.
I am playing the game and I'm just like, have I ever seen the same block?
It feels like every single one is custom to wherever it's going.
And it's so cool to see him fight.
Like if there's an enemy behind him,
the way he'll like put his sword behind and just block this way or that way or whatever.
And it's like watching it becomes this super cinematic feeling event.
And I'm all about that.
And I think that it's kind of a fun reward to have that cool,
stylish, like, movie looking experience that's pretty simple.
and then you get to these boss fights,
and then you really put to the test on how well you know the gameplay systems.
The easy stuff is there for you to test the gameplay systems
and to learn all of the different styles of parry that you have in styles of deflection.
There's this move called Eason,
where if you parry at the exact split second right time,
and it's like very, very, very, like frame perfect,
and this was in the original games too,
you get this like super hype, like one hit kill type thing,
and you can do it on bosses.
You can do it on any character.
And it's just very hard to pull off.
And there is kind of a risk reward of if you don't nail it, you get punished a little bit.
But what's cool is the like pro-onimusha players, because there will be.
There will be speed runners of this.
And watching this on awesome games done quick is going to be so cool to watch because
they're going to be going through fucking people up, boom, boom, boom, boom, just like rushing through.
And it's going to be exhilarating.
It's going to be freaking sick.
But for a normie like me, I'm just going through fighting these guys.
And every once in a while, I happen to hit it.
you know and so it'll be like doing this cool action with all these animations and then all of a sudden
you get into this like super dialed in execution move essentially and it's just like this is badass
like i constantly was like this is badass difficulty levels i think yeah there's there's normal and then
there's easy um i don't know if there's going to be more uh one thing is you can choose japanese vo right from
the jump uh which i know a lot of people did even in the demo room i feel like that i was in
it was like pretty split on who who chose what i like the english but i think it's because i
like the over the top
like it reminds me of anime dub stuff
and like they lean into that hard
like hearing the the bad guys
talk it's just like it does something for me man
I just I love it it's goofy in all the right ways
but for the first time the protagonist
is silly like we have this
this guy that uh he's serious what he
needs to be but I'm really enjoying
the
he kind of has this like bumbling energy to him
that I think adds a lot
to how sick a lot of the
animations are because his fight style
isn't quite that like
drunken fight style that we see
but it has elements of it here and there
and I'm digging that quite a bit
it does
from what I've seen it does remind me of any time
we've seen
Jackie Chan not 100% have control
of a situation in one of his old movies
yes that's like really good and like
and you get kind of some comedic beats
out of that
and like there was also that one little touch
and it's not protagonist's based
but it's the one villain that we all fought
in the demo.
It's just such a little small character moment,
but he jumps up on that railing to be badass,
and he kind of loses his balance a little bit.
And it's just like little things like that
really go a long way to building character.
And so speaking a little bit more on that,
like we get that boss character
that seems like he's going to be a recurring villain.
He also has an only gauntlet,
which is like pretty damn cool.
The main character,
Miyamoto, Musashi, he has the gauntlet
and he needs it to live.
Like they set that up story-wise that like something's happening.
He doesn't want it on him.
But if he gets it off, he's going to die.
There's another thing.
This game is just so steeped in cool Japan stuff.
Like it takes place in Japan, in a real Japan.
But then there'll be moments you go into like this like demon take on Japan.
And it's way more fantasy.
But a lot of the elements are still there.
There's a lot of the, um, that art form called Kinsugi.
where it's like filling the cracks of something with,
with gold.
Oh,
I think of like Loki.
Yeah,
yeah,
yeah,
season two.
Um,
so in this,
like,
fantasy world,
it's just all over the cracks of this mountain.
Cool.
It looks so sick.
And,
uh,
he himself,
the main character surrounding the only gotlet.
He has the gold stuff like,
almost like veins on his arm.
It's a blight.
It's a scourge taking over him,
too.
That's pretty right.
It's,
it's really,
really cool.
And,
um,
so yeah,
I was saying,
this kicks,
off right after that first boss fight, you kind of just like go through another fairly linear
stroll through like a forest. You fight a bunch of just these like bad guys that are very easy,
but can be fun to stylishly get into combat encounters with. Then you got the big soul eater
boss that we were just looking at. The bosses have two phases. They, they function very, very,
very, very differently from each other. Great sense of escalation. Like so far, I've loved all
the bosses that I've experienced in this. I'm like, these are highlights for me. These I think are
going to be standouts that people are going to remember.
It's not just like, oh, another thing to do.
It's like, oh, each one's kind of story and character and then gameplay style has enough going
for it.
Then I'm like, this is going to make this game kind of stand out a bit, I think, compared to
some of the other games and put it in the league of how you guys talk about a lot of these
Souls games.
Super exciting.
You get to a more open area where you're in this, like, village.
And it's, it's not open.
It's just kind of like open zone.
You know, it reminds me, I always,
go back to this, but it's very like Madagascar and Uncharted 4 where the game feels so linear,
then all of a sudden it's, it's a little open, you know, and, uh, yeah, we're kind of seeing it here.
And there's just like a lot of just points of interest you can go to. There's like waypoints that
pop up on your map and you have to go and it's like, all right, there's these three scourges you
got to go deal with like go go do that and go pop the post tools and clear the zone of the
line. Yeah. And as you're, you're going through and doing that, there'll be these like random
things that happen where and it's usually the same thing which is just some villagers are getting attacked
by the genva and you have to go stop them it got a little repetitive because it is just that's just all
that it is um but what's cool is if you don't go save them they just get killed and there's just dead bodies
dang you know what it means so it's it's kind of fucked up is that section
like is it linear in that way or are those little events that kind of will constantly happen
Um, well, in the open world, those things are just all over.
Okay.
Like when you're walking around this town, it's just like, you'll be, there's a path
you definitely, the waypoints there to go with whatever scourge or whatever.
Because it reminds me, like, what you say right now reminds me a bit of my experience
with the control resident where you have stuff that you could go beeline towards, but the big
open zone kind of area, there's things you can, there's a little hut that you could go save
that person from and get that treasure or whatever.
Is that area like this or is everything just like insanely predictable?
I think it's like how you're describing.
Okay.
More like a grindy area, I would say.
It's more there's just things to do.
They're not the most interesting things, but there are things to do.
And you're incentivized to do it because of what Barrett has on the screen right now.
There's a lot of upgrades.
There's a lot of things you can upgrade.
You have skills to upgrade.
You have abilities.
You have weapons.
You have costumes that you can get.
that don't seem to change.
They're just visual, but it's cool.
There's a lot of different systems at play there.
So you are incentivized to go collect all of the loot that is kind of line.
Okay, so little lutes and treasures.
I'm excited to find out all about the abilities and the power-ups
and the way that your character will progress throughout the game.

You're richer than you think.
And we are back.
Tim, hit me with some cool upgrades and things that you saw that you're like,
ooh, I'm really happy I have this new ability.
So there's a bone arrow that you get pretty early on.
And the bone arrow is just unlimited.
And I really appreciated that.
So it's R2.
And it's just like these magic arrows come out.
And it was something I didn't expect to get in this game.
The original only moose just had bone arrow,
but it was very much a limited Resident Evil style weapon,
where it's like you have limited arrows and you have to be very, very wise about when you use them.
This is way more about kind of just getting that one stagger in on an enemy while you're dealing with somebody else.
Or kind of just like being able to take a breath from a boss for a second and like go back and I just get a couple hits in while you like figure out how you're going to come in an attack.
But what I really enjoyed with it is how much the arrows affect traversal puzzles in the world.
Fairly basic stuff, but very fun.
To get to the second boss, you get that bone arrow.
and then you have to go through the fantasy Japan area
that I was talking about
and they'll just be like a bunch of like
stones and rocks in this mountains
kind of like messed up
and like very um
the flying mountains and Avatar
okay right but like you have to get across this big chasm
and it's like you need to figure out how to get over there
there'll be these like giant hanging rocks
that you can shoot the arrow and then the rocks will fall
so it's like you're kind of creating
new passage ways
with the with the arrow and again
not reinventing the wheel it's nothing we haven't seen
before, but it's satisfying and it breaks up
the linearity in a way that I was like, okay, I'm, I'm appreciating this.
And then there'll be certain uses of the arrows in boss fights that functioned the
same way of like, there'll be like a flashing red thing.
And if you shoot it with the arrow really affects their stagger meter or
Do you feel like the game really wants you to kind of balance the melee and the arrow
combat?
No, no, no, no.
The arrow combat doesn't seem so much as it's like a weapon as much as it's like a, a, a,
a tool, if that makes sense.
Like, everyone's, you're...
It's almost like an ability. Like, let me use this
during this phase, whatever. It's more specific thing.
And it's more like, I would say
it's more akin to like using a bomb
in Zelda. Okay. Where it's like, you're not always
doing that. You know what I mean? I'm sure some people are.
But it's like, you're using your
sword. Yeah, yeah. But there are use cases
for using a bomb. And
the use cases are pretty hype with the
era. Like the second boss fight in this was
was very, very cool.
And I want to talk about
that boss because it's um kicks my ass oh kicked my ass hard uh but i really enjoyed the setup to
to get to him so he's this like goro looking dude for mortal combat so we got multiple limbs going
on right one thing before we get into it tim i got to know we have very different definitions
for what kicked my ass means yeah when you say a boss kicked your ass how many attempts are we
talking um okay so here's the full context of this for me first boss took me i died once and then i
beat him the second time the second boss i think i died five times okay and i didn't beat him okay i got
so close and i should have and i could have but my problem was this was in the thick of my
sinus situation the sinuses all i was i was in with it and i'm not blame i'm not excusing that what i am
saying is I had to leave the preview earlier than I wanted to to go to the doctor, which fucking
sucked. Because the guy next to me, he beat the boss. The great ones tell their buys not the day.
And I felt like a bitch. I wanted nothing more than to beat this boss. And I didn't. I failed.
And I need to be honest with myself and with everybody about that. But I cannot wait that.
This is the boss here. You had your Michael Jordan flu game opportunity. You'd let it go.
Well, he's the, I would have stayed. I would have pushed through. I would have fought. I had a
I had to get to it.
There was a lot of traffic.
But the setup to this boss and the boss itself,
I'm like, oh man, this game's great.
This was really the moment for me that I'm like,
oh, I think Andy's going to really like this game.
I think that my fears of this game
not reviewing well are
kind of assuaged.
So we just saw that right there where he like brings up
you can use your arrow there
if you hit the red like tendril.
He'll drop the rocks on himself.
Oh, neat. That's an example of using
the arrow in combat. But so
an opportunity thing, you know.
This guy's a cool ass dude, man.
I mean, in a fucked-up way,
but he's a cool character as a boss that I want to fight.
So you're going around this little village here
and you're solving all these like blights and stuff
trying to figure it out,
but you're realizing that there's all these different villagers,
you're seeing them all here,
that each one of them has some fucked up story
that they just keep telling you.
And all of it involves different limbs of theirs being gone.
Like there's this one woman with like missing fingers and someone else has a missing arm and like someone else like their throat was slit so they can't talk.
And it's like what's going on?
And we realize that like there's this dude, this bad guy in the village that is kind of granting wishes to all these people.
But it's a monkey paw situation.
So the woman, her hands hurt so bad because she was forced to work and forced to make clothes for so long.
She's like, if I just didn't have my hands.
If I couldn't work in that way, they would stop forcing me to do that.
And so then he takes her fingers.
And that's a pretty basic version of it.
But like, there's other things.
They're just like, this couple keeps getting into arguments together.
And he's like, I'll make it so that you'll never verbally fight again.
I have a second penis.
The second penis.
Exactly, exactly.
It was pretty cool.
I liked getting these little bits because I was like, what's going on?
And then it's revealed it's like, oh, he's taking all of their limbs.
That's rad.
So that's why when you see the boss, like, he has all these, like, different body parts that are of others.
And once they, once the deal is made or whatever,
they're kind of like in this, like, weird zone.
And they get to be in, like, in his garden.
And then you get follow up stories from them of like,
they're kind of under a curse at that point.
Okay.
And then he tries to curse you because you're like,
I want this gauntlet off.
I don't want this on.
So he knows that and he senses that.
And he's like, like, rocket raccoon.
It's like, I can handle this.
Yeah.
I can handle this for you.
And you start to get like, hold into it in this, like,
very like siren call type way.
And then you, you push back.
You're like, no, fuck this shit.
And then you,
fight up with the boss fight starts. I'm like, hell yeah.
Yeah, that looks like, that's cool. The characters look
super interesting. And, you know, obviously when you
earlier on, you were talking about just the lineage of
Oni Mushan, to me, it was exactly what you mentioned as a kid.
Like, it was always the samurai version of Resident Evil.
That's kind of the exact same way that I looked at it. And I don't even know
if I knew that they were made by the same people. That's just kind of what I
knew it as. Yeah. And, um, do you feel like
with this sort of comeback for Oni Musha,
does it feel like they are
really trying to follow in the steps of their success
with Resident Evil? Does this feel like they are trying to
replicate that magic while bringing in
new ways to kind of make that magic be brand new?
And then like, how can we kind of continue this lineage?
Oh, yeah. They're trying to, this is trying to be a franchise.
This is them trying to be like, this is an entry point to
something that they want sequels to,
follow-ups to. And I think, again,
it is the actual wisest call
for them to go forward with this.
They've been remastering the other games. I love those other games.
There's no level of remake that makes
those games relevant to the modern audience.
And like, that's okay.
It doesn't need the Resident Evil treatment like we've
been seeing with the remakes and new games.
I think this is just purely the right path forward.
And it reminds me a lot
of Resident Evil going first person
with Resident Evil 7 of like, yeah,
it is a lot of the elements we love
about this thing, but it's a completely new way that makes a lot more sense at the time.
And then we get to RE9 that kind of blends that first person and third person that we've
been getting from the remakes.
I can see some type of ony musha progress with that of like getting sequels that continue
to build on what we have here.
I do think that this between Pragmatta, RE9, and this this year, it's going to be like
one of the greatest third party developer years of all time.
I was about to ask and I want to say,
Roger and Cool Greg
Get the social video ready
Do you think Tim
That by the end of the year
There will be three
Capcom games in your top 10
In my top 10
Yes
In kind of funny's top 10?
No just in your personal top
Well I think yes
You think so Resident Evil Requiem
You loved
In your top 10
I think Pragmata you loved as well
At this point
Without really thinking about it
I think R9 is number one
and I think pregnant is probably number six.
Okay.
And you think this will be in there as well?
After playing this, I think maybe this will be a number eight.
Wow.
And I hope that I'm wrong and I hope that this is even higher.
It has the chance.
It definitely has the potential for that.
Damn.
Yeah.
That's pretty exciting.
It is.
That's very,
but I think the more interesting question is like,
will kind of funnies have all three?
And I think that there is a chance.
Damn.
Yeah.
Well, okay.
my worry with it with the September
on slot. But it's the earliest. They're
getting at the right time. Isn't
not the same day as Blood of Don Walker?
Yeah, you're right. There's that.
I saw the chat asking
about this game about the size of it.
Of like, how open is this going to be?
I expect this to be
around the same length as Resident Evil 9.
And when I was saying in the open world, I brought up
Madagascar from Uncharted 4. I should have brought up
Rancun City in.
Resident Evil, Requiem.
Like, that's how it is.
It's like, you're in this, like, open area.
not that big. There are definitely like three waypoints you're supposed to go to, but there are
other things you can do. Okay. You know, so it is very similar to that. So do you assume
12 hour, whatever, and then like 20 hour a completionist? Yeah, something like that. Okay.
Which I'm like, hell yeah. That sounds great. That could be encouraging. Yeah. Because I liked everything
I saw with the combat and with the boss fights so far. Same. I also still need to play Pragmatta,
which apparently is also kind of short. Good game. Yeah, it is. Real good game.
there. But then you're going to want to
Barrett's going to want to get into
the challenge rooms and beat his records.
No, I don't think so. Really? Oh, damn.
Yeah, the gameplay
itself looks really fun, but like
I just, I don't know if this is a year for
me to like get fully sucked into
that kind of stuff. I'm so
behind on so much. I still haven't started Mina.
I need to play as, uh, esoteric
Ereib.
Tocon is out today. We're like running out of
time, man. I will say
to that point about the challenge
Simpson's pregnant. I don't think that you're going to get in that
Barrett zone of like trying to fucking be the best
in the world, but I do think it's going to
be impossible for you not to get sucked into wanting to
at least complete them all. Yeah. Or that's
three star or whatever. They're
satisfying and I think that they really
push a good gameplay system into being
great. Yeah. And it
is also here. There is
a system where you can ring the bell.
There's like a bell that you go to
in the town and the bell
allows you to just kind of essentially go
into like a practice mode against hordes of
enemy so you can just like get some of the stylish stuff down.
Okay.
Get your timing down for the Easton attacks or different parries or deflections.
And the deflections are so cool, by the way.
It's an ability that you get.
In the demo that we played that's available for everyone, you have it by default.
But in the preview I played, you have to earn it.
You also have to earn the super parry, which is like the second one.
Well, I think that's what I'm talking about, the deflection.
Yeah, because there's like, if you perfectly time your block it does something,
but then there's like that other, probably the deflection you were talking about.
Or it's like,
the super super,
or it's like a two button input.
That's the deflection.
Okay,
gotcha.
So that's L1 and X on a dual shock or dual sense.
So what's cool about that is it'll deflect hits,
but then also if there's like an arrow coming at you,
you can like deflect the arrow,
but then you can use the left stick to aim where you want the arrow to deflect to.
Oh, that's me.
So it comes at you and if there's a guy over here,
you can aim it at him.
You can aim it at that guy.
You can aim it over there.
And like, it's pretty odd.
away.
Like it follows,
it knows what you're trying to do,
but it makes you feel like a badass.
And I guess one thing I should say is
the combat system itself,
like it's very simple,
but there's just a lot of depth to it.
So the square and triangle
buttons are your two attacks.
Instead of being a traditional
light and heavy, it functions very
similarly, but it's one-handed attack versus
two-handed attack. And that
really just kind of changes
the animations
and like where they're coming
from, but it also jumps into the system
where if you
and the enemy, because they also,
sword-based ones, are fighting with one-handed and two-handed
attacks, if y'all strike each other at the same
time with the same
handed attack, it gets into this
face-off thing where you have the sword
to sword. Spam a button?
It's not spam a button.
It's, you need to
hit
the different one. Oh, cool. Okay.
And whoever does that first gets
the win. And it's pretty sick.
That's pretty right.
And it's just,
it's very cinematic and it makes you feel awesome when you pull it off.
But yeah,
the ringing the bell,
it's more like a practice room.
But then there also is this like challenge section where you get to re-fight all the bosses.
And it's just like,
you just go as many times as you want the buses are so fun.
So like that's awesome.
And then you get unique upgrades and you get unique costumes and abilities from that.
And I'm just like,
oh, this is,
this is cool.
Like they get where the fun is in this game.
They understand that we could still be Arcady with something.
that's trying to be a bit more narrative story whatever and it's just like fuck it
where's the fun here it is that sounds awesome um tim any final thoughts on i guess like your last
chance to play this game before the game comes out i i'm very very happy with it i i uh a lot of my
worries are gone um in terms of like other people's enjoyment of this game i i think that the more
people that play it here they're going to dig it again i don't think that it's going to be
people's favorite thing ever because i think at the end of the day uh the people that are comparing it
the boss fights to all the soul stuff.
I don't know that they're going to live up in that way.
And then the other stuff, it's like,
it's DMC, but it's not quite DMC.
So it could get kind of caught in this place of like,
well, who is this for?
But I think the people that are going into this for what it is,
they're going to really, really dig it.
And yeah, so far I've been very, very impressed.
I can't wait to kick that boss's ass.
I'm going to get my revenge.
I will do it.
You don't have your sinus problems now.
No, dude.
You're going to get in there.
I'm going to get in there.
But I do want to end this.
There's a new trailer that dropped today.
Oh.
And I haven't seen it yet.
Oh.
So let's, can we watch that Barrett to close out the show?
Nice.
That's exciting.
I just assumed that it was something the Barrett was already playing.
It was.
Oh, perfect.
Good sound effects.
Joining or severing.
Which do you want then?
I wonder.
This shrine is set to ground the binding and severing
of fates to its pilgrims.
But the malice has messed it up.
I'm late to practice a shamisen every day.
And the mistress scold me awfully when I play wrong.
Please.
His face animation just walking around looks so good.
Whoa.
As for you,
I suppose you'll hear about that gourdlet.
Cool.
I'm killing monsters like you to keep my limbs attached
let's sever your fate
oh she's all from the give up her fingers that's right me
yeah mottomisashi i did me worthy of my well and entrusted to you
the pulse it feels like i could pick up a cost
this crazy getmas tricks,
would you just die?
Damn, their face animations
are so damn good.
Yeah, the other thing about Oni Musha
is that every game's protagonist
is based off of a real...
A former, yeah.
Like a former actor, yeah.
But, yeah, what's weird about this one
is this man, this actor, I forget his name,
but he's like incredibly iconic
and important in like Japanese film history.
He died many, many, many, many years ago.
So it is one of those cultural things of like,
you know, bring it back Tupac
and how we feel about it
versus how they feel about it.
Things are different,
but it does allow incredible facial animation in all senses,
even if he is just walking around.
But,
damn,
that trailer got me hyped.
That trailer did such a good job of kind of taking everything I just
spent the last 30 minutes talking to you about,
but like,
it boiled it down into like two minutes.
Two minutes of hype.
I saw the lady with a finger.
You see him kind of getting lured into the gauntlet.
Cool.
Yeah.
Years,
at this point now of watching Demon'slayer
and a little bit of Jiu-Tikaisen has me,
like primed to get really into this.
I love it.
I really, really hope it hits.
