Starting point is 00:00:43 If you want to get our shows ad-free and our exclusive shows, go to patreon.com slash Kind of Funny. What's up and welcome to the Kind of Funny Games cast for Thursday, June 25th, 2026th. We have a very, very, very sexy new set, courtesy of Andy Cortez. Shout out to Andy Cortez.
Starting point is 00:01:10 Always making this look damn good. Of course, I'm your host, Tim Getty's. I'm joined by Andy Cortez. Hey, Tim. Greg Miller. Hi, Tim. Mike, Mike. Tim, you look great in that jacket.
Starting point is 00:01:18 Thank you so much. And blessing at E. Yo-Yea, Jr. Good day, Tim. I wore the jacket on purpose. I was like, what's my most like Vice City looking things that I have? And I had some louder pink ones,
Starting point is 00:01:28 but I was like, no, I think this fits the vibes correctly for what we're doing today. We're just talking a lot about Grand Theft Auto 6. There's been a lot of GTA6 news happening in the last week. and now we have a whole bunch of us together to talk about it for the very first time. If you're watching live, be part of the show by superchatting on YouTube.com slash kind of funny games. Where are you at with GTA6? Specifically, why do you care about GTA6?
Starting point is 00:01:51 Of course, that works the other way. Why don't you care about GTA6? Superchat and let us know. And we'll get to those throughout the show. Shout out to our Patreon producers, Carl Jacobs, Omega Buster, Delini the Soctwining, and Lax Nomad. Y'all are the best of us. But for now, let's begin with the topic of the show. Why do we care about Grand Theft Auto 6?
Starting point is 00:02:16 It's hard to say who's the biggest fan of GTA at this table. I'd wager its bless. It's like saying who likes pizza. That's the thing, too. Going with that, Andy, I know I like pizza. I know this pizza. I know you like pizza. I know Greg likes pizza.
Starting point is 00:02:30 But I know Bless loves this hype of pizza. But it's funny because when I say I love this pizza, I love pepperoni specifically I'm a San Andreas boy So San Andreas and GTA 5 It's like those are my GTAs Once we get to Vice City It's like less
Starting point is 00:02:46 Not less hype But it's not like this is my jam This is my everything here Yeah But I am excited for this I do love GTA And then Mike where are you at Because I just don't know
Starting point is 00:02:55 Oh Tim I'm extremely high I'm a GTA kid ride or die Yeah I'm someone who stood out front of a circuit city In 2003 with $70 of my lunch money handed it to a random stranger and said, please,
Starting point is 00:03:07 buy me grand theft auto. You're my only hope. Mike, or like, I love Grant Theft Auto. Mike, if a gun and ball gamer is going to buy another game, it's going to be GTA. Mike is the ball and gun gamer.
Starting point is 00:03:19 GTA is in the ball and gun world. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Oh, 100% hands down. Oh, yeah. GTA means a lot to me, Tim. I love GTA very much. Andy.
Starting point is 00:03:29 I mean, yeah, I'm just super excited. Of course. This is like, as we're getting kind of rent. as we're ramping up towards like the first trailer release and, you know, all that, it's like, I get so excited like, oh my God, I'm working in the industry when a big rock star release is happening.
Starting point is 00:03:44 And how long have you been working in the industry? Well, I guess I guess I was, I was an employee when Red Dead 2 launched. Sure, sure, sure. You could just say Grand Theft Auto. Yeah, but like Grand Theft Auto is just, that's a different, that's a, that's a horse of a different color Dutch. And, yeah, it's, it's, I'm super pumped to see what the biggest game with the biggest budget ever, you know, based on the franchise that has sold, how many, what are they at now?
Starting point is 00:04:13 Like, 180 million or something? 200 million? Higher. Yeah, no, this is Shryor just talked with this. It was 230 million on GTA5. It's absolutely insane. And so, yeah, I'm like super so. But take me back, though, Andy, take me back.
Starting point is 00:04:26 Before we get into how hyped you are for six. Like, what's your history with the franchise? Oh, shit. How much you love this? Oh, I mean, yeah. When I, I mean, I remember going to, you know, my friend Charlie and. Caesar's house and watching them play GTA 3 on the PS2 and I didn't have a PS2 yet and all three of the brothers had gotten a game each so like they had GTA, they had Metal Gear Solid 2 and they had
Starting point is 00:04:46 DMC or Devil May Cry the first one and was just super blown away by oh my god look at you could just kind of do everything and yeah I like everybody else got really into Grand Theft Auto Vice City was my favorite one didn't love the whole like I don't know why the RPG aspect scared me so much in San Andreas. I was like, I don't want to like worry about getting fat and getting muscles. And that was like such a roadblock for me. It's like it shouldn't have mattered.
Starting point is 00:05:11 Similar to like when Majores mask, I'm like, oh, I'm on a time limit. I don't know about this. I'm scared, you know. So,
Starting point is 00:05:19 but yeah, I played, I never beat four. I'd say four is like maybe the only one that I just ran around a lot in. But I never like got the actual ending in four. But yeah, five play the shit out of it. You know,
Starting point is 00:05:30 had some fun with online as well. That was like a really cool online moment for me. me living in Austin, play with my friends back home. And even when it was at its shittiest and never working and you were disconnecting all the time, it was just so cool to chase after the one dude in the city who was terrorizing people and you're just trying to run over them with your car and explosions. And yeah, it's like, it's obviously going to be a big moment, but also like the tech geek in me is so stoked to see all the shit that everybody on social media kind of like
Starting point is 00:05:58 gets really excited about. And then the other side will really complain about and go like, this is why games are so hard to make. because you care about the horse testicles and you care about how many water droplets and, like, that's the stuff. And I'm like, how deep did they go with their level of caring on the immersive factor? You know, will I, will I be, you know, fucking filling up my tank of gas? And then if I, you know, don't pull the gas tank out. If I don't pull it out correctly, I'll lose.
Starting point is 00:06:25 Like, how deeper they're going to go with mechanics and the world and the book and all that? What you're doing in the Strait of Hamas is affecting your gas prices over here. It's so funny, Andy, because everything you just said, I feel like it's actually my exact journey, too, for the most part, where the GTA 3 by city, those were my shit. And then Sandra is, I loved it, but I was also turned off by the more RPG elements of it all. And then getting into four, I dabbled, and I played a lot of it, but I never finished it. I would fly to the Empire State Building and then, like, jump out of the helicopter. That's, like, pretty much what I did all the time. And then, with five, beat it and played a fair amount of online, mainly because of, you know,
Starting point is 00:07:02 let's plays and the achievement hunter days when we would do all that stuff but like definitely not nearly as much as I wish that I did because whenever we did those races and stuff I was like this is so much fun but I the ecosystem was too daunting for me even to this day I like look at it I don't understand well it's because it's very poorly set up and that's not too that but then Greg where where are you at with GTA in the past uh I mean I'm as close to being around forever as you could be I think right like PlayStation one uh Grand Theft two was a main stay on that for me and my friends. We would backyard wrestle and then we would come in and we would watch what we just
Starting point is 00:07:38 recorded and then we would lay there and pass the control around to each other of who could get five stars the fastest, who could survive with five stars the longest, X, Y, and Z. And, you know, in all of my pantheon of memories of video games and video game journalism and everything that's made me, me, having that EGM and cracking it to where they had the first screenshot of Granthavthavtho III. And it was dude in leather coat, green pants running at the camera. and them talking about like
Starting point is 00:08:03 if you've played it before they're bringing the camera to the ground and putting it behind like it's going to be third person but it's going to be everything you were doing and you can go in buildings and it was like I remember reading it and rereading it and just being like literally there's no way
Starting point is 00:08:20 what you're saying is impossible that would be like living a real life that would be like that whole you know blah blah and so then they get you know Grand Theft Auto 3 and kickstart this back to back to back to You know what I mean? Of like,
Starting point is 00:08:33 I remember Grand Theft Auto 3 devouring it, all the secrets, organically finding the one Easter egg where you go to the top and they're like, there's no Easter egg here. Why are you looking?
Starting point is 00:08:44 It's like, oh, what the fuck? That's crazy. And then, you know, to go... Did you ever try to validate and find, like, validity in games by, like, showing it to your parents
Starting point is 00:08:53 are like, this is a serious, like, look, mom, these aren't just like silly Mario game. Sure, sure, sure, sure. Like, with me, with GTA, it was like, I remember showing my parents a lot of different cutscenes
Starting point is 00:09:06 because they were watching the Sopranos at the time. And this game had Tony Sipriani. I'm like, look at that. It's like the mob. It's like your TV show. They're doing it. They're rivaling it. It's like what a parent tries to, like, relate to his kids.
Starting point is 00:09:18 I was trying to relate to my parents. I'm doing the same thing you're doing. Yeah, Grand Theft Auto 3, when I came out, I'm at Mizzou. I'm living in the dorm. I was already, whenever I was in the dorm, I would leave my door open. But once Grand Theft Auto 3 came,
Starting point is 00:09:31 it became, if people would walk down the hall and just, if I was playing, they would stop and come in and sit and just watch. And the amount of times I'd be going and driving somewhere and I'd go to get out and they'd stop me. They wanted to finish chatterbox. Like we had to hear what Laslo had to finish this segment with the love expert or whatever it was going to be. And I remember the excitement when, you know, back in the old live wire,
Starting point is 00:09:52 or line wire days, you could put in a search and let it go forever. And I searched for seemingly months until someone finally uploaded all of chatterbox. And I remember I woke up one morning and it was there and ran across the hall and told John that we hadn't had a disc with it. And your first podcast. Exactly. That like brings me back to like, must have been 2007 or eight. My house and Comfire. And we were living in like an uncle's house who had gotten deported so it was free.
Starting point is 00:10:17 So we were living there for a while. And I kind of did the similar thing where I turned on my PS2, opened up San Andreas, went to the pause menu. And they had all the radios available in the pause menu. So I just left on a radio Los Santos and just had that be my radio as I would do whatever. in my room. Yeah. It's so cool how immersive that shit was. Totally. And then you go to the, I remember you know, Vice City the next year, my sophomore year, I'm living at the Antler House. And I remember
Starting point is 00:10:38 one of our friends was playing a show the night of a release. And we were in the car or whatever we were doing. And one of my friends like, are you going tonight? I'm like, yeah, probably. I'm going to pick up a GTA Vice City though before. And then my other friend back is like, so he's not coming. Like, of course, he was right. You're like, oh, it's a sequel. How much different going to be? And like, different, no, but vibes in a world and a landscape, right? You jump in. Tommy Versetti.
Starting point is 00:11:00 Come on. Motorcycles. Man. Golf. You go to the Fierro driving down the highway with some like hair metal playing. It's nothing better. You know, you go to, I think honestly one of my final memories of playing a game over and over and over again just because in San Andreas. And I remember having that save out on, I'd already done everything.
Starting point is 00:11:23 You know, I had all the money in the world or whatever. And I had a save right next where I start right at the dirt airport. I'd get into the jet and take off. And then I would do this hundreds of times throughout, you know, months of just playing it off that thing. And it was like, what do I want to do today? Jump out, do this, land there. What kind of weird trick can I do? What kind of thing?
Starting point is 00:11:42 If I bounce my body off that, can I land over there? Like all those stupid little things you would do, right? And then skipping a few things, though, you know, this then launches me into my career at IGN. You know, I start in 2007. And so to be there, I had that moment of like, you know, rock star came by or whatever. We went to visit them. I forget, and it was like,
Starting point is 00:12:04 Hillary was the one who was doing the preview, but I got, I'm like, I'm, and then they passed me the closure, do you want to play GTA 4? And I was like, yes. You know what I mean? I'm like playing a GTA with, before anybody.
Starting point is 00:12:17 And then, of course, to launch into then, Lost in the Damned, right, Ballot of Gay Tony, like that was happening. Chinatown Wars, a game that I skipped on DS, but then got obsessed with on PSP,
Starting point is 00:12:28 or maybe I got obsessed with DS actually. It doesn't matter. All this Grand Theft Auto stuff is happening and it's so crazy and it's so wrapped in memories of my career of meeting people. I skipped, you know, when I got the newspaper column about video games in the blog or whatever,
Starting point is 00:12:44 I covered national stuff and tried to localize them. And if this is the point when the lawyer who was crazy, Jack, what was his name? Chattel, no. The lawyer who went after GTA, made his whole career going after T. Oh, Jack Thompson. Jack Thompson was going after GTA all the time, or Rock.
Starting point is 00:12:59 star and GTA in the press in trying to get these legal battles yada yada yada and the guy was fucking crazy like just insane and I was writing about all that and I came in one day and I had the flashing thing on my phone at the desk and I picked it up and it was jack Thompson chewing me out for the fucking article I had read I'm like what a flashing what light like a voicemail light on my I had a real phone at my desk at the newspaper like a physical phone with a dial pad and you had a flashing voicemail light when people were They were going to put my cell phone to the paper, you know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:13:33 Right, no, I mean, yeah, it makes sense, but it's like... I had the whole thing, too. Like, I had the receiver with the cord and then, like, the little rest for your thing, so you can type your notes, write your notes. Is that at every desk? Did, like, every employee get a phone? Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:44 When you go and, like, probably not as fancy, but you look at, like, the Daily Planet newsrooms or whatever in a super-bent film, like, I work that. That's, like, legit, not every time, but, like, legitimately the fucking coffee pot, the things, all this stuff's crazy. And then, yeah. But then it was, like, you talk about,
Starting point is 00:13:59 this, I mean, now hilarious to talk about it, but drought, right, where you go from 2009, Lost in Dam, Chinatown, Wars about a gate, Tony, but really, four in 2008 to then getting 2013 Grand Theft Auto 5, and still working at IGN, still, like, at that point, like, I've gone so high up the ladder
Starting point is 00:14:15 that I'm the one going out and doing all these different things, and I know Rockstar PR so well, and I'm talking about all that stuff, like, I remember, you know, going out, it would have been for a GTA5 preview, and like, maybe it was, but It might have just been to get coffee with Rockstar PR, but I was in Newark. Maybe it was when I was interviewing Dan Houser.
Starting point is 00:14:33 I got for some reason they wanted to, you know, I was a good interviewer. They sent me out to whatever. I remember being in New York and I remember it was the day Taylor Swift's album dropped and listening to that. And like I'm at breakfast with Rockstar trying to sell them on why Taylor Swift matters to everybody. Not the more things change. Now nobody would argue against it. But here we are, you know, 13 years later.
Starting point is 00:14:53 13 years when a franchise that used to be annualized just waiting for this game. and what it is. And so I have lots to talk about here, but it's like for me in particular, especially with GTA 6, it honestly feels like being in hibernation. Where I still am not excited. Like I'm still not like I can't wait.
Starting point is 00:15:12 I'm still not like counting them the days because it just doesn't feel real. Totally. Yeah. When we are in spitting distance, it'll be that. But Tim, what about you? Just to take you back real quick, Greg.
Starting point is 00:15:20 It's like one of my most treasured video game memories is with you when GTA 5 dropped. And when we went down to Rooster T's. for the first time to film the I forgot about this. The gauntlet. Yeah, the GTA-5 had it wasn't even out yet. We had the early copies because of IGN
Starting point is 00:15:39 and some of the other people, like some Funhouse people and I guess that was it. I think we had two copies. Funhouse had a copy and we had a copy of GTA-5 and we went down to shoot the gauntlet and it was like a six-day shoot or something in like the Paramount Theater
Starting point is 00:15:55 down in Austin and so much was going on. But we We begged people to set TVs up for us just so we could like sit and just play. And it was the most distracting thing for anyone trying to get anything done because everyone was just taking turns doing the obvious,
Starting point is 00:16:10 trying to run, get into the airport, get the airplane and try to take it off without getting taken down. And we spent like the entire week before someone actually was able to pull it off for the first time getting that jet and going. And it was like, this is so cool.
Starting point is 00:16:25 It was such like a communal like, oh my God, we're all doing this. this and we were adults at the time, but it felt like playing GTA 3 at Curran's house. Remember, we brought that game screen, one of those giant cases you can bring where you strap the console in it and then you lift it open and had that really shitty screen on it. But yeah, we brought that. I was always so jealous of the, like, of Achievement Hunter, not only just their success, obviously,
Starting point is 00:16:51 but the fact that they would always do these like random heists. And they found so much creativity and not just, we're not just going to play the game the way it tells us to. We're going to make our own stories. It's like, man, that is so cool. And I remember when we did like our first party modes for GTA and we're like, yeah, there's a, there's a whole ecosystem of just GTA streamers or just GTA. This wasn't even in the role playing.
Starting point is 00:17:20 Like there was none of that. It was just like there are people that only do, you know, I think back to the Funhouse and all of their like podcast videos. like they had a lot of podcasts where it's just them talking and they're just doing a GTA race uh you know in the foreground or whatever and like it was it was an ecosystem for content creation much like Minecraft was back in the day much like Roblox is now and things like that it's like it was never just this you play as as Trevor and Michael uh and um i'm blinking uh Franklin frank i was going to say Frederick you're playing as the three characters you know playing
Starting point is 00:17:58 the campaign and then it's over. It's like, no, you could play online forever. As long as it works. It rarely worked for us. I worked for me. I played like over 500 hours in GTL online. Yeah, I want to talk about online, obviously, because there's a lot to get it. The trailer of GTA, five, and then it ends with him walking up to the window, and you can see the little name tags of everyone in the streets, and they go, and we're going to have GTA online, but we'll talk about that in a later date. I've never been so sure.
Starting point is 00:18:22 I was going to be obsessed with something until the end of that trailer, and I was like, oh, I'm going to live in that. By my life. I know that. Like that is a game I've been waiting for all my life for. So, plus, I want to put a pause on the online because that is the thing we have the most questions about. We don't really know anything because the last week we got cover art.
Starting point is 00:18:37 We got the prices. Pre-orders are up now. And we got some information about both the $80 and the $100 ultimate edition that comes with a bunch of bullshit. But, bless, just talking about the single player because that's what they have announced now. Where are you at? I'm so excited for it. Like, I guess I didn't break down my history, right?
Starting point is 00:18:57 but it's similar to all you guys where it goes back to GTA3, where Greg's in college during GTA3. I'm, I think, I'm around like six years old by the time they release or maybe seven years old, but by the time I play it, I think it's 0-2-03. It's another one of those Addison games where I go over to Addison's house, and he's like, oh, I have this game, watch me play it because that's what I would do, and just watch him play games. And he busts out GTA3, and I'm like seeing all this stuff and I'm like,
Starting point is 00:19:21 okay, this is cool, but I don't know if I get it. He then lends it to me. I play it at home, and it still doesn't click. Like I don't think I'm at GTA age yet to where I'm understanding how cool it is to do crimes in an open city. Because he then goes on to lend me Vice City when that comes out. He then even lets me San Andreas. And it's not until I have an uncle come over one time. And he's like, hey, Lane, do you play Grandin Tadado?
Starting point is 00:19:43 Do you like Rrentonado? And I am either in middle school or a freshman in high school. And I'm like, oh, yeah, I played Grintifado. I don't have Granted. He's like, all right, I got you. And the next time I see him, he hands me, GTA, San Andreas. And I'm like, I'm in high school. But I'll take it.
Starting point is 00:19:56 Yeah. Sure, and that is when I got so obsessed with it, right? Like, played an endless amount of St. Andrews had the fantasy, honestly, of, man, I wish this game could, like, be online. Like, I wish I could play this with friends in a world that's bigger and a world that's more beautiful. That co-op mode hidden inside of it, though? The co-op mode was really fun. I'll play that with Addison all the time.
Starting point is 00:20:15 And then GTA4 online, too. That's the thing is GTA4 was also an online game for me. I know we don't talk about GTA4 online as much, but I did play through the campaign of GTA4. I actually really loved the campaign of GTA4. I thought it was like the most grounded dramatic story in a GTA thus far which is kind of crazy to think about but played a lot of the online at GTA4
Starting point is 00:20:34 and then yeah once we get to that trailer where they revealed the online for GTA 5 blew my mind but I'm super excited for the campaign here like for me I'm just excited for the sandbox of it I think for the we haven't used the word sandbox yet as we were talking about it but all the things that we're saying right being able to explore the city being able to
Starting point is 00:20:50 ride the motorcycles do Xyz thing like GTA I don't want to say it made it mainstream because Sims existed but on that level of open world crime game sandbox I think nailed all the things
Starting point is 00:21:03 that it needed to do to make us to get us all just obsessed with it I just wanted to live in that world It created a genre Yeah GTA3 was that first Full 3D open world experience
Starting point is 00:21:14 that I ever remember seeing oh wow like look at me in this world and then somebody going Oh yeah go grab that car Oh go grab an ambulance You can just drive around in it right now and then you never looked back.
Starting point is 00:21:26 It was the idea of... How long can he lasts like five stars. Playing real life. You're just a man running around now. Like that is the allure of it. It's just ready player one come to life. And now when you look at where we're at now with online and especially role playing
Starting point is 00:21:39 and what GTA 6 will most likely do with the role playing scene, it's like you will just be living in this world. And that was always the dream, even from three, was to go into every building, to have some random job at the burger shop or at the chicken shop and just live. It's going to be awesome. I'm equally excited for single players.
Starting point is 00:21:57 I am online. Single player, though, I will play for probably, what, 50 to maybe even 100 hours. Online will be hundreds and hundreds of hours for me. Has anything that's happened in the last week, like change your excitement? No, not at all. I, you know, we've talked a lot about how are they going to release online,
Starting point is 00:22:15 and now I just have a lot of questions about that, but not anything that makes me less excited. if anything makes me more excited because they're saying in their blog post that GTA6 is a single player experience and that is launching November 19th, right? Online could launch whatever, right? That could be, if I think if they do it the right way, it's probably coming out in spring of next year, right, very early next year. And I think that's a really cool way to do it because you're giving enough time for people
Starting point is 00:22:42 to breathe and play this game and get through it and have all those conversations. And then you have the second wave of, all right, we all know the city, we all know the mechanics. We're all so familiar with this game. Now online launches and you know, I think the only thing that gives you any sort of worry is how much do you charge for online? Is that another full price thing? Is it free to play?
Starting point is 00:23:01 Is it somewhere in between? I have those questions, but I don't have any less excitement for it. I need KDG to look back into the archives to see if there was a pizza bed between me and bless about them launching with multiplayer. Oh, interesting. I would have said that they wouldn't. Oh, no, you were very like hard fast. Like, there's no way they don't do it.
Starting point is 00:23:19 at the same day. No, there's no way. There's no way. I swear to you. Katie G, get him. Somebody looking at them. Somebody find it.
Starting point is 00:23:25 Yeah, yeah, yeah. So I would love to see if those pizza unofficial, maybe we didn't do official one. I was a little bit more scared back than the day. I think the only reason I would have said that would be because
Starting point is 00:23:35 they wouldn't do it a month later because of Christmas. But I don't know, the same day. Somebody find it. Yeah, like it was like a launch thing. Like, it wouldn't wait until later or whatever. Somebody look at that.
Starting point is 00:23:46 But I think looking back just numbers wise And obviously this is just like a broad sort of like how long to beat level of a sort of thing. But when we look at GTA being about 30 hours, you know, campaignish, if you do completionists, you know, around like 80 to 100 hours. And then Redemption 2, almost doubling those numbers and being like, yeah, you could do 200 hours if we go for the full completionist route. What sort of level can we expect from this? because I think a lot of that has to do with, well, how much of this development time has been online and how much has it been campaign and story
Starting point is 00:24:24 and just the single player experience? That's, it's a little bit hard for me to even guess what those numbers could be. They might just be equal to GTA 5 again or maybe in between GTA 5 and Redoubt Redemption 2 and maybe the rest of the time has just been like, let's get this online, you know, feature complete and, you know, full of content or whatever. But I'm really excited to see like,
Starting point is 00:24:45 how do they red dead redemption to this world? Because GTA 5 had a very, very, you know, it had its story campaign. You could just do that and get that done fairly quickly, it feels like. But then they had like that. I wouldn't say fairly quickly, right? Like, you said 30 hours. Like, that's...
Starting point is 00:25:03 How long to meet has GTA 5 at 32 hours main story? Made an extra 51.5 completionist 89. Okay, yeah. Way longer than I remember. I would think that six is like substantially longer. Maybe not double, but I wouldn't be surprised at close to. Yeah, 5.50. And so, like, I guess my question is, how do they Red Dead Red Dead Redemption to the GTA franchise
Starting point is 00:25:23 where it's like, yes, we're still going to have this campaign. We're still going to try to give you a really good and meaty story. But, you know, outside of the side quest and things like that, you could golf and you could, like, do those little side activities. But Red Dead Redemption, too, I think took that to, like, a way bigger level in terms of, like, people could just hunt in Red Dead Red Dead Redemption 2 and some people only hunted in Redden and Redemption 2 I have personal anecdotes are just friends of mine
Starting point is 00:25:52 that that's all they fucking do. They just go like they want to go for that really rare animal. They want to find that three star, whatever the hell. And like I wonder how deep those side activities can go. Like how much depth with it be there. I think you're going to see a lot of online, GTA 5 online influence on GTA 6 single player. Because for me, the fantasy of GTA online is growing as a criminal mastermind and being able to,
Starting point is 00:26:18 you buy your apartment, you then go on to buy a fancy condo, you buy a nice house, you buy these things, you buy a garage, you continue to, you know, fill that garage with cars, even nicer cars, right? And of course, you've been able to do these things in GTA already. But I think the way that online expanded that and turned you into just an entrepreneur business owner, I could see GTA single player being way more about building up an empire as opposed to like just the story mission
Starting point is 00:26:43 like I think there I think it'll be a bit more systemic in that way I think what they want to do is create the fantasy I think when we're talking about Red Dead and what they do well it is all right what's the fantasy of a cowboy living in that time period oh yeah you're gonna go hunting you're gonna take care of your horse
Starting point is 00:26:57 brush your horse's hair right the horse testicles growing and shaking it's gonna matter to this right like I think GTA is gonna be doing the same things but on the in the ways that makes sense for the criminal mastermind fantasy. You're going to get like, you're going to see a truck with like truck nuts
Starting point is 00:27:12 and they're going to get bigger in certain weather. But yeah, like, you know, when we think of the side activities in GTA, again, like I mentioned, you can go golf, you could go. Was there like, go? tennis. Tennis, yeah.
Starting point is 00:27:27 You can arm wrestle. And a lot of that was like the equivalent of walking up into some games. There's like an arcade cabinet. And you play a little arcade game. And it's like, it's obviously a bit more involved, right? You're not just seeing a little screen and playing an arcade game,
Starting point is 00:27:41 but, you know, how deep will those mechanics go to try to, like, could you just try to become a tennis player? A taxi driver. Yeah, yeah. Can you apply it clucking bell and, you know, have a, and try to do side quests while you have a shift? Like, obviously this is, we're getting to levels right now where we were with cyberpunk, thinking that we could just fully exist in the cyberpunk world.
Starting point is 00:28:05 and then the game came out. I was like, oh, it was a campaign. Well, that's my question is how much time do you tend to put into those side activities? Because I think for most of them, not that much. Well, a lot of that is because they were just little cute things that you go, oh, sweet, they put that into that. I probably played golf twice ever in Gigi. Yeah, I think maybe you played it once and wasn't, you know, it was just a whatever thing,
Starting point is 00:28:27 but will they entice me to try to seek out these little side activities in the way that Red Dead Redemption 2 said, no we want hunting to be like a really big thing a big core of our side activities that aren't the main campaign you know i want to keep talking about our hype for gta six after a quick word from our sponsor this episode is brought to you by high on life two just four months after the february release of high on life two the squatch games team is back with the kind of funny crew last time the dev stopped by the game hadn't been released which forced them into a very painful agonizing secrecy today though the NDAs are off and they can pretty much say whatever they want without getting yelled at.
Starting point is 00:29:08 Mostly, they really want to talk about the following, though. A demo is now available for Xbox, PlayStation, and PC as of this week. Also, High on Life 2 is on sale for the first time as part of Steam Summer Sale, which kicks off June 25th. High on Life 2 hits Nintendo Switch 2 on July 1st. Starting point is 00:30:40 Has your hype peaked or crevist all in the last week? Well, I watched all the GTA trailers from three to six last night. Okay, so you were in the moon, you're like, interactive experience because I was preparing for possibly a GTA3 trailer to drop today, right, with pre-orders. I thought maybe we'd get something exciting. And so I went back and I watched them all
Starting point is 00:31:01 and the hype is through the roof for this, especially when you get to the two trailers that we've had over two and a half years now, it's crazy. And when you watch those back, they hit all the right notes for what you want out of the hype, get hype moments from GTA, right? The music absolutely bangs. Everything you're seeing on screen screams GTA. Here's a beautiful world that you want to live in and explore.
Starting point is 00:31:25 You want to get into crime. You want to get up to no good. you're going to meet a crew of casting characters that you're going to love, hate, like, and laugh at. Like, everything was through the roof for me last night. And it still is. It's been like that since it was introduced two and a half years ago that we were finally nearing GTA 6. And so, yeah, for me, I am a GTA guy through and through. I have a rich history with it from 2001 as an 11-year-old, right?
Starting point is 00:31:49 Like, this is very much in my gaming DNA. And the idea that, like, now is finally the time, I'm super pumped up. And what gets me is returning to Miami, right? Like the idea of that ecosystem, that environment is really, really exciting. As blessing and you guys have all brought up the role playing aspects that they learned from GTA 5 and online, what they saw with the community, where this could go now. We know that they've doubled down on that. They purchased that team, no pixel. Like, they're learning and growing.
Starting point is 00:32:20 And I think that we're going to see a really long life with this. But like when it comes down to the core of it, Tim, it's that single player experience. It's the story. It is those moments of, here's this wacky side character. There's always some nerdy computer guy that's going to mix up well with the mafioso guy. And I'm just excited to see where these two take me, right?
Starting point is 00:32:40 Am I bouncing between the two characters? Is it just a real great love story that we're going to see on Romeo and Juliet out in the streets, causing havoc? Like, I can't wait to see this. I want references to bad boys down in Miami. I want Miami Vice references.
Starting point is 00:32:56 Like I can't wait. And then the radio, like we brought up, like, my hype level for this is through the roof. I want to see more heists. I want to see great side activities. I want lasting missions that will stick with me. I mean, you bring it back. Grand Theft Auto Vice City, those dumb RC control missions. You never will forget those.
Starting point is 00:33:14 No matter how frustrating they were, you still smile, right? The RPG elements in San Andreas. Going out and getting your driver's license, your boating license, your plane's license, right? Like those are things that a lot of people don't talk about, but we're so much fun in the moment of like, this is crazy that I'm on an airstrip out in the middle of Las Vegas, Las Ventura, and I'm just getting a pilot's license. This is crazy stuff. I want to get fat. I love putting on an afro or crazy hair.
Starting point is 00:33:41 Do you like, I want all of that in this game. And we're going to get that, right? How do you elevate it to? I want more tattoos. We've seen the basic tattoos they put in. Well, you buy the deluxe edition. Oh, I already have. I can promise you that.
Starting point is 00:33:55 I think every human being on Earth is excited to buy that. No matter how much shit we talk about the $100 and how that's a crazy price tag, I promise you, we're all pumped up deep down inside to be like, fuck yeah, I will gladly give you $100 to get this thing on and rocking with the ultimate addition. To say something crazy,
Starting point is 00:34:12 I actually don't really think about how much they've pushed this one further, only in the sense of I just missed GTA so much that I'm okay with this just being GTA. Well, I think that's going to be the thing is. evolve game. I was one GTA. I do, honestly, I'm excited for this story.
Starting point is 00:34:29 This looks like a really cool Bonnie and Clyde. I like that idea. We'll see where it goes. Are we criminal masterminds by the end? Do we fall at the end? Yet, yeah, yeah. That's all great. I do think one of my main exciting points for it
Starting point is 00:34:41 is to see what's going on under this hood, systemically, what's going on in the world, et cetera, because even, well, I mean, I think honestly every GTA, with the exception of the trilogy originally,
Starting point is 00:34:51 where RPG sure at this other. Pretty similar games, right? I'm not saying they didn't add stuff, but the jump between the trilogy to four. I remember being like, holy shit. And then four to five, like I remember having it, playing it, playing GTA 5 and walking around
Starting point is 00:35:07 Franklin, as Franklin on the beach and the weed shop and the stuff. And it was like, wow, like at a glance, it's GTA, but there's so much going on here. When you look at this and how beautiful it is, and we keep seeing, you know, the same two trailers, obviously, as they haven't put anything out.
Starting point is 00:35:22 And you see Jason talking down from that balcony to the guy in the muddy driveway. And it's like, that looks so good. And you're going to be able to go down there and the water physics on that puddle. And then what it's going to be to go over there, let alone then how are we making money and generating income and doing this thing and all this, all this dancing and nightlife? And yet,
Starting point is 00:35:38 like, how that is actually going to feel to play in Rome that world? Same thing of GTA 5 of, you know, I remember being in, being at Michael's place. And then as Franklin just fucking ripping it out of Beverly Hills and the Lamborghini and getting like watching it changed to get all the way out into the dusty area that
Starting point is 00:35:55 Trevor was hanging out in that was like dirt poor and horrible it's like to see what's going on technically will be such an incredible feat because that's what they do and that's what rock star is and they've earned that pedigree over time yeah totally and also you got to kind of look at it as this is just the most expensive tutorial to get people to gta online right like like and that's awesome like because this is going to be the playground that and the foundation that they're building for that next however long from. Are we transition a little bit to online here? Well, really, just last thing I want to say is like, because
Starting point is 00:36:24 for me in the last week, like, getting this cover art has like kicked my hype into gear in a whole new way, which like I, I'm just obsessed with it. I love it in every single frame. I'm just like, this is what I want from GTA and I know that sounds silly, but it's like, it's everything looks pitch perfect. Like the
Starting point is 00:36:42 coloring of it all, I rewatched just the two trailers for six and I'm just like, I can't wait for their story. I love that it's about a couple. Like, that is like such a, I think perfect place to set the story because we've seen so many different variations before, but that gets me more excited to actually play the campaign instead of just, oh, I'm going to play a lot of this, but I'm really going to see it through like with where I'm at in my life now. And I think that there's like no chance I don't now. Like I'm so,
Starting point is 00:37:09 so excited for that single player side of it. Then let's transition out to online. What do you want to go? Well, I think, you know, what we're talking about is you're right. And, you know, GTA 5, GTA online. I remember when that was coming up and being like, holy shit, like, this is going to take over my life. Like I have such a lineage in history with GTA. I can't wait. And then for the staggered launch and then how broken it was at launch and then we didn't have heist and da-da-da-da. It was such a turnoff to me every time we had tried to ever come back. And Kevin and I tried, you know, valiantly early on and kind of funny. And then there's been, you know, party modes and this, that, and the other. How cumbersome and slow and archaic that process was to get
Starting point is 00:37:49 it going made it feel so less than it as an online experience that I am once again on the doorstep of a GTA single player experience and an assumed online experience and I'm left going man I hope this is the one and also I really think it's going to be I think again we talk about who Rockstar has acquired since then we talk about how far online games have come since then like rockstar and take two know what they have and they know it's got that thing of we make a million dollars a day in this thing as it is and we didn't even nail it so let's nail this one and I really turn that around I think yeah and there's no fun house or achievement hunter there's only us saying oh shit yeah I mean the thing I the whole channel is going to become
Starting point is 00:38:33 GTA online last place to that I'd say right I know you're saying they didn't nail it for you right but they did nail it like overall business wise oh there's the reason why gta 5 is the second best-selling game ever made, right? It is that online mode. It is how much they're able to sell in shark cards and bundle in the full game paddle with the shark cards. And for when we're talking about
Starting point is 00:38:52 the archaicness of it, right? We're also talking about a game that came out in 2013 on the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360 before Destiny, before Fortnite, before so many modernizations have been made in online gaming. That is when GTA5 online released. And I'm with you in the sense of
Starting point is 00:39:10 I am so excited to see all that shit get polished because I'm somebody who, again, I put it in over 500 hours into GT online and I put up with all the bullshit. I put up with how terrible the partying up with people is. I put up with, oh, I want to invite everybody. Then I see the names pop up and then disappear and then disappear. And I'm like, are they invited or not? Are they joining the event or not, right? I mean, we had those issues five years into the service. Yeah. So it's like, this wasn't just a lunch thing. This was like, It's still like that. Like even for the PS5 version, you play it and it has all the same issues as the PS3 version, right?
Starting point is 00:39:47 So I think the only way to fix that is to rebuild. I think they know they got to start fresh, especially since we're in a new location now and all this stuff. But I am excited to see, one, how they take cues from all these other online games and online ecosystems that have done things better. But then also to Andy's thing of, what are the ways in which you are making this GTA immersive? what are the things that are you taking cues from? And like, I bet you there's going to be an in-game TikTok. There's going to be a content creation suite that is, hey, record your own videos in-game,
Starting point is 00:40:17 share them to an online ecosystem, and you're going to scroll through them on your phone in your game. There's going to be so much custom content type shit because that is where we're at, the generation of Roblox and all this shit, right? And they want you to live in this. They want you to live in this. And GTA is also a pioneer of that as well. GTA5 had all that content creation type shit in it, right?
Starting point is 00:40:34 And so you're going to see a version of GTA online that I think is the maximized version of all the things that five set up. Plus, 500 hours in GTA online. What were you doing? Everything. Like what? I was going to talk about that though.
Starting point is 00:40:48 What is that? Like, try to break down to some degree the pie chart of 500 hours. The pie chart, a lot of it was me fucking around in the open world and just doing events. When Heist came out, I want to say was 20, oh, 2015, when it was when Heist released. Like, I was obsessed with it, right?
Starting point is 00:41:05 And a big part of that was wanting to own expensive properties. wanting to save up money for expensive cars and saving up money was, I would say saving up money was the bulk of my time because I wanted to buy better and better things. And so for me, online is about the chase toward capital. And that was doing a lot of just the in-game missions that they had before Heist, which were just co-op missions you would do with friends. He dropped the C word like that. It's great. Happily. There was so much confidence. He thought about it after. I thought about it. I was like, do I want to say it? I know it's going to be corny, but I'll say it anyway.
Starting point is 00:41:37 I also chased for capital. But it was me doing the co-op missions. It was me then heist coming out. And then that being the main way of you want to make big money at a time, you got to do heist, which is always fun because you get to that last. You do the set up missions for the heist, which are let's say the first four missions.
Starting point is 00:41:53 Then you get to mission number five. And it is whoever's the heist leader gets to choose how to divvy up that money. And then we go into it and you have a certain number of lives. It is a raid style of content, right? Where it is you got to work together and be locked in order to be successful in this. And I absolutely love that. So that was a big part of the pie chart as well.
Starting point is 00:42:08 But I just love doing all the events. I would do races. I would do team death match type stuff. It was also once they started rolling out the custom content that people can make to create their own mission. The user generated content. The user generated content. Oh my God. I spent so much time doing that.
Starting point is 00:42:24 It'd be the thing, Mike, where it's- The BMX bike race on the top of the skyscraper down and it was like only up, but you'd be going down on the bike trying to jump on platform to platform. Amazing. For me, it was people would put platforms in the air. and it would be last man standing where people on the ground would drive cars
Starting point is 00:42:39 and then launch themselves at the people on the platform in the air and they would have to take those people out while the people up top had snipers and they're trying to snipe the people out of the cars. Awesome. That type of awesome shit, right? Like I spent so much my time doing that as well.
Starting point is 00:42:52 Mike. Yeah, I mean, I love GTA Online. GT Online is very special and yeah, we've been through the ups and downs with it but now it's in a much better place. I mean, I love jumping in. Washie owns every business in the game. So yeah, we'll go in
Starting point is 00:43:05 and all of a sudden he's like, We got to go transport this marijuana, which means you put the marijuana in the car. You drive and you got to go transport this marijuana. You get put on the map. And guess what? You are now highlighted on the map. And some kids going to come grief you, right? Like that's some of the best parts.
Starting point is 00:43:19 It's like that shared open world, that interactive experience of, well, I am doing missions, but they're not. And they're just experiencing it. And guess what? Mike is going to grief you. He wants to pull up. He wants to honk at you. He wants to annoy you.
Starting point is 00:43:33 He's going to shoot at you, right? Like that shared experience with so many people in this map was really, really cool in special stuff. Yeah. And then the more they added, right, they added on the casino that I loved. They had horse racing in the casino. We would all go in and watch a Cosmo-like the Cosm experience where it's like the Giant Speed. Down, down, down LA. It's the sphere.
Starting point is 00:43:57 It's the sphere. It's the minisphere. Oh. You know what I'm talking about. Yeah, yeah, Cosm. Where you watch the sports now. Okay. But they had that for horse race thing like Cosmos.
Starting point is 00:44:07 So cool. And so yeah, they just kept adding on all the stuff that I loved. Dr. Dr. Dr. Yeah. And that's, again, like what I'm excited for with this is I really do think it's going to be create your character and like live in this world.
Starting point is 00:44:19 Like it's going to be literally, I would assume you in Grand Theft Auto, which it was before. But I feel like the layers they put on top of the phone of the invites of the thing. It felt so clunky that I didn't feel owning an apartment and doing the thing and it actually was connected to just running a heist and doing the thing, which was a, you know, dissonance for me that kept me away from it. Whereas I feel like this one's going to be streamlined into,
Starting point is 00:44:41 like you're talking about all the content creation that you think they'll be able to do. I don't think you're wrong, and I wouldn't be surprised if the Rockstar App Social Club, that's always been trash is somehow gets rebooted, where it's like, when you're here right now in real life, at eating lunch, you can open it up and see an in-game feed of all this stuff the people you follow and are friends with in GTA. It's so funny because you're describing all these things that I was doing already.
Starting point is 00:45:01 because Rockstar Social Club had all that shit, right? And I was all on the website, constantly favoriting. Making your first ever gang and I know your friends in? Oh, my God. Cool. Yeah. But you're describing all the reasons why I love GTA online. But of course, like for a lot of people, didn't get through that layer because it was so convoluted.
Starting point is 00:45:19 And especially as they kept adding things over the years, late stage, GTA5 online, not my jam. It's hard for me to open up GTA online right now and try to find a flow, get into it. And maybe part of that is just me aging. but I think a big part of that as well is they've added in so many things that I don't know what to chase anymore. Like when they added in bunkers, that's where I was kind of like,
Starting point is 00:45:38 I got to drive up here every single time and I want to do a heist, but I don't, it's all, now it's like real time happening in world, but I don't really understand it. I think they started adding in so many things that was hard to just explain that
Starting point is 00:45:50 for people who were just coming in. You had to be living in an ecosystem to understand how any of it worked. Well, it's the entrepreneurship, like you says, like that is Andy, who's been there 500 hours
Starting point is 00:45:58 and won't put it down. They needed something more. They needed that. carrot on the stick. And they were like, hey, well, just keep adding things. Shark cards. Whatever it is. Well, because it was to earn money because you didn't want to buy shark cards, right?
Starting point is 00:46:09 And so like the best part, here's all the new cars. Here's the firework grenade launcher. It's like, I have to own that. Yeah. Well, guess what? It costs a lot of money in game. And I don't want to put that kind of time and effort in. So you're going to be buying shark cars.
Starting point is 00:46:21 It was so cool living in a high rise in the game, looking out your window and seeing the world happening. And just seeing that one dude that was like just. be in a menace in a helicopter and then a rocket hitting him and explode it's like this is fucking wild like I can't believe that like that games are this right now
Starting point is 00:46:41 and yeah it would just really it'd be really cool to see how that evolution you know takes place they would just take bong rips in the living room like what was the point of that but they just had one bong in the living room just like take rips that's all you want to do all right sure we have a ton of superchats I want to get through them
Starting point is 00:46:59 here a lot of differing opinions on GTA. Crow says, I haven't liked to GTA since San Andreas. Driving actually sucks. I'd rather grab a cab than drive in 4 and 5.
Starting point is 00:47:09 I hope you'll have fun, but it's not for me. It's a quiet November. Driving in GTA 4 sucked, but also once you got used to it, I loved it. Like, it felt like you're driving on ice,
Starting point is 00:47:18 but there's something about the realism, like quote unquote realism of it, where that was the first one where if you crash, you can fly out the front windshield. That to me was the coolest shit of all time. GTA 5 driving, I thought was good.
Starting point is 00:47:28 Driving has always been amazing to me. It's always been good, in the fun of it. And like, when your car gets airborne and having that control to flip it a bunch and rearrange it to make sure you land correctly, that's something I do in every game now where I'm like, oh, let me GTA fix this. And then most games, like, no, we don't do that. And I'm like, ah, GTA does it though. So like, whatever.
Starting point is 00:47:46 Yeah, when I, like, until Forza, until playing Forza Horizon 3 and going, oh, shit, I like, I do like racing games because this is what I did in GTA all the time. It was just, you know, I was, I never saw myself as like, I want to play. racing games in the way that Grand Turismo is or anything because I don't just want to go from like match to match or whatever. But in GTA, I was driving around all the time. And that's why when I really enjoyed Ford's, I was like, why do I like this? Oh, because it's just that experience. I'm flying on ripping on hills, going to grasslands. Yeah. Sky says confession time. I've never played a GTA. Sky, I, do you don't need to super chat again? Uh, but, but, uh, just, just chat.
Starting point is 00:48:28 Is this going to be your first? Or are you not interested? Great question. Because, like, man, yeah, like, there's never been a better time. There has never been a better time. Well, I don't know if they ever, did they ever fix that trilogy? They did over time and, yeah, like. You should just go to five though.
Starting point is 00:48:45 Yeah, I would not. If you've never played GTA, just do five right now. No, but even then, I would say, if you haven't done any, don't do any. But if you're really going to do one, I'd say do Vice City. And don't finish it. Just dabble with a little bit just to see how far you've come. Because I feel like GTA 5, if you do that, I mean, I say this now. We'll see when 6 comes out.
Starting point is 00:49:03 But I feel like it's a little too close in the sense of like them being similar. Guy says if the game has a good story mode, I'm more interested. I think 5 is old enough. Yeah, perhaps. And you open that up and you go, oh, this looks significantly older than the games I'm playing currently right now. And the newer kind of big titles. And I think you will, you'll still enjoy the game. play of it, but you'll feel that jump
Starting point is 00:49:29 whenever 6 happens. I really hope that the... I never played GTA 5 on mouse and keyboard, but I hope that that... I hope the shooting feels a lot better. Like, I never... As much as I love just the crazy combat of GTA games, I never
Starting point is 00:49:45 loved, like, the auto aim and then move the stick up a little bit for the headshot. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I... I want to see what that feels like on a keyboard mouse, going for precision, going for skill, you know? Fucked. Adam says, I've never cared or played a GTA before, so I don't know why the internet's
Starting point is 00:50:06 exploding. Is it really going to be that good? Do I go all in and see? I mean, I feel like you know. Like, I feel like, like, you know the answer to this of, like, why the internet's exploding. It's because of the sales numbers. It's because of the reviews, right? Like, we're talking about not just one of the highest selling games of all time, the highest
Starting point is 00:50:24 selling franchises of all time. One of the highest reviewed franchise. It's like game after game after game. We're talking about like, it's getting, you kind of start at the 10, right? And like it's one of the only franchises out there that I feel like that's the case for. Is that incredibly lofty expectations and goals for 6? Yeah. Do I think they'll hit it?
Starting point is 00:50:44 I don't know. I'm not quite sure. I do think that in the modern games media review landscape, I do see people being a little more harsh on the, I think it's going to be harder for this one to be a 10. I don't think it matters though. I don't think it matters at all. Yeah, I don't even think Rockstar. cares. No, no, not a ball. I think the game is going to come out to great reviews, but I think
Starting point is 00:51:00 at the end of the day, the world is rolling blast. The world is yeah. No, we're hopping in it out of the way. Um, do you, how long do you think we wait for PC? Like a year, year? At least. Yeah, at least. I'll wait till then. I'm on no, right. Oh, yeah. Uh, the one says, I have a question picking off of this, though. Sorry, always we're doing hypotheticals and stuff. Like, do we think there'll be GTA six reviews? This is something that I, I want to say maybe even Strauss-Zelnick and an earnings called said that, oh, yeah, there will, but I mean, like, I'm not even a thousand percent sure. I don't think it'll be, I think they'll fly out a few out. There'll be an event. Yeah. Yeah. You don't think like they'll do, I mean, Red Dead
Starting point is 00:51:39 Redemption two had, they gave us one code, right? That you played. Because Jared Petty also played it, but he was like, yeah, yeah, it was for his own thing. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I forget what it was. Yeah. I mean, they won't even put a disc in the box. I think they're being very protective about this one. Rockstar has always been incredibly protective and what the NDAs you sign and what you need to do to have that game and play that game. So it'll be interesting to see in general what a 2026
Starting point is 00:52:02 embargo looks like on it if they do it. But yeah, if it's going to be, you go here, you do that. I still think they will. Like I think that for as they're Rockstar, they can do whatever they want. Like, I think it kind of behooves them to play all of the games possible to maximize
Starting point is 00:52:18 the potential for this to be a hit. Like, and I just think the more coverage is better. They are We already have guaranteed coverage, but there is something about Grand Theft Auto 6 review that's going to be the most clicked article that possible, right? So it's like getting those eyes, whether it's a 10 or a 9 or an 8 or whatever, even if it's a 6, it's like that attention is, I think it's marketing for them for breaking more records. Like we've talked about this a lot. I cannot believe a trailer didn't come out today. Can't believe it. Like you can pre-order now.
Starting point is 00:52:46 There's an actual call to action and there's not something major pushing that. like I that's bizarre to me like they're they're making some calls that I wouldn't make but I do think that I when it comes to reviews maybe not everyone in their mom is going to get it like I think that we're in an era now that when GTA 5 came out there weren't YouTube reviewers the way there are now right there wasn't this like YouTube content creator influencer culture to the same extent so I don't know that they're all be getting codes but I do think IGN's going to get a code I think GameSpot will get a code game informer probably like you know you go down the list might be like a steam machine sort of like
Starting point is 00:53:21 yeah really small pool totally yeah I mean I think we'll get a code I do they got the you know they got the kind of
Starting point is 00:53:28 funny bump with the set they also got the PlayStation logo plus they do you have the the app that's crazy
Starting point is 00:53:33 and turn on your PlayStation today not even both front pages are that that thing that's crazy uh
Starting point is 00:53:39 the one says I don't think GTA 6 will sell as many consoles as people might think normal people
Starting point is 00:53:45 can't spend over $700 to play one game the economy sucks I mean, I think it's more just that there won't be enough consoles to buy for this.
Starting point is 00:53:53 Yeah, it was an article that we had I had to demote it to Wii News on the show today, but I believe analysts or I think it was like... One of the retailers. One of the retailers, thank you. We're talking about how there will not be enough stock for consoles this December because of GTA.
Starting point is 00:54:07 Did you guys talk about that? It was in Wii News, but do you like get into it or should I cover it tomorrow? We got into it. Okay. Falcon says, finally beating the RC-shot missions in Santa Andreas is one of my fondest gaming memories.
Starting point is 00:54:20 The full game being $100 killed my excitement. I'll wait for a sale. Yeah, RC shop was a blocker for me. I got so happy when I realized that I didn't need it to mainline progress in San Andreas, but then I beat the game, got real better at the game, came back to the RC shop, and it's probably one of my proudest gaming achievements as a kid.
Starting point is 00:54:35 Yeah, dude. Fuck, yeah. What do we think first week sales look like? Do they announce first? I guess they will. I remember that was the GTA-5, right? When they were like, it's made more money in 24 hours than it made a billion dollars? 24 hours.
Starting point is 00:54:47 I was going to say, I'm guessing. I mean, pre-orders probably already happen to. That's the thing that I don't know how they're going to count it.
Starting point is 00:54:54 Yeah. Right? Because like for movies and stuff, pre-orders count towards that opening weekend. Maybe. So, okay, what,
Starting point is 00:55:00 like at the end of a week, do they say, you know, you sold X-Coppy? 15 million in the first week. I'm going to say 20 million. I think that's pretty fair.
Starting point is 00:55:09 Yeah. I don't know about the, like, amount of units sold, but I do think that they are going to make more money than Avengers Endgame made. in its entire run
Starting point is 00:55:20 in its first week. They're going to put it out one more time. I mean, but even that, like I, I, let's see, and they're going to make billions of dollars. Okay,
Starting point is 00:55:29 so to, so, so, to put the 20 million in the first week into perspective, there's about 92 million, uh,
Starting point is 00:55:37 as a four months ago, 92 million, PS5s have been sold and around 35 to 40 million Xbox series consoles. Yeah. DTA5, uh, look like it sold, 11.21 million in its first
Starting point is 00:55:50 24 hours. In the dark night of news, Andrew Goldfarb on September 20th, 2013 said GTA 5 sales hit $1 billion in three days. Yeah. I might have hit to $25 million. Well, I mean, that's my thing is I did $1 billion. It's like, I might be getting a little overzealous here, but I think it's going to be closer to three
Starting point is 00:56:06 than two. Which is fucking insane to think about. It's exciting. This is, yeah, earlier in the week this is still a goldfarb. Earlier in the week, Rockstar announced that GTA 5 made $800 million in one day. Analyst previously estimated
Starting point is 00:56:23 the game would earn $1 billion in its first month, but it appears they underestimated just how excited people are to visit Los Santos. Yeah, I think what will be an interesting aftershock, you know, money money quarterback of all this will be the shortage of consoles and how even though we don't want to buy them right now
Starting point is 00:56:42 because they're so expensive, but what I've been hearing from people of like, well, no, like we aren't, people aren't making many new ones because it costs so much to get them. So the ones that are going to stores right now are being like let out, let a little bit of air out of the balloon every time so that you can get to holiday and still have stock. But if GTA forces people's hands and they want it out right away, then there you go because there are going to be so many people that want that Hogwarts legacy meme of walking in and walking out with the game and the new system. Yeah, totally. Walking out with a $500 Xbox Series S.
Starting point is 00:57:10 My God. Well, now, you know, you have your pre-owned refurbishes. You can buy, you know, you have paid the time to August 1st to buy one. With rent-a-center, you know, you can pay it. It's all of it. $2,000, $40,000, 40 months later, you've got an Xbox. I'll pay later. I'm really, I was on Games Daily telling Blessing just how exciting,
Starting point is 00:57:27 or excited I am to see what the PS5 Pro enhancements are. Sure. I want to, like. Have you heard it plays best on PlayStation? It plays best on PlayStation, yeah. I'm really pumped to see, like, Mike's set to buy another one just having it. It's on PlayStation right now.
Starting point is 00:57:41 Make this $900, what I guess I bought it for $750 or $700 at the time. Yeah. But like, what, Why, what are we going to do here with that pisser? I want that Pissor to really go to work. I mean, is that the difference between 30 FPS on base and just 60 FPS on Pissor? It's very likely. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:57:56 Very likely, yeah. Thanks for the PSI Pro. I'm not sure we get 60 anywhere. I, even on the pro? I think so. We'll see. We'll see. I think the pro can do 60 with Pissor.
Starting point is 00:58:09 Yeah. At like, you know, 1,200 P.U. Or 1080P upresed or whatever. Like, I think it's possible. Yeah. I'm just, I'm not convinced. Is there, for sure going to hit it? Dumb question. Are there not, are there any games that run not 60 FPS on the PS5 Pro?
Starting point is 00:58:25 Like AAA games? Have we had that shocker before? I don't think so. Like there are games that have been officially worked on with the PSSR, but then there are, like, unofficial titles that still get the PSSR treatment, that you could like go into your settings and like hit a little toggle to say, hey, do some pisser stuff even though you haven't been officially worked on. It's kind of like how Xbox has the...
Starting point is 00:58:50 What's it called, Mike? Where you just get like... Enhancements, like, you know, they'll do like frame rate enhancements. The FPS boost. Yeah, FPS boost, yeah. Muppet says, digital foundry seems to think it'll be capped at 30 on both standard and pro. I don't know if that's true, but they're much smarter than me, so... I hope not.
Starting point is 00:59:07 Simon Cardi says he put a you and everything. The windows. That's true. Helodrove says birthday tax at turned 29 this past weekend. GTA3 is a core memory for me at like four years old. I can't wait to get back to Vice City. It's my favorite GTA setting. RELSTER says I care about GTA6
Starting point is 00:59:23 so I can stop messing with my other games. I have to create a plan of action for this fault because of it. Yeah, I mean, it's going to be crazy. Talk about a problem for this industry that's already struggling right now. Let's launch this behemoth. And as we already talked about, have in the shadows online ready to come out. And let's just put such a chilling effect on everybody buying new games, right? We worry about playing us being the hardest of hardcore,
Starting point is 00:59:45 trying to clear your backlog, yada, yada, but I mean, you're talking about the next six months of people only playing this, not buying things. What is the actual effect going to be on those January-February games, let alone, yeah,
Starting point is 00:59:56 if online's coming out and takes over everybody's world. Kevin says, fun note about GTA-5. I work at a reasonably large chain of used video game stores. I looked up the numbers this morning. Over its lifetime,
Starting point is 01:00:06 we've sold 202,000, second-hand copies. That's why there's a code in the box. That's crazy, though. Second-hand copy. That's that information. Let's see if there's any different stuff here. I'm mad if it's not 60 FPS.
Starting point is 01:00:27 I'm be so pissed. I'm be really mad. Be prepared to be mad. I'm not playing this thing in a slideshow. I mean, I will, but I'll be upset about it. Are you biting in a PC? Oh, damn. You think he's going to run on the little steam machine?
Starting point is 01:00:43 Dude, Lucy to Rogers Gregway yesterday watching the... guys just be like, oh man, this box is saying for $1,000, I just can't recommend it. Roger being like, boot up Spider-Man, check it out. It was like, oh, freezing. And then suddenly I just get like the size
Starting point is 01:01:00 of the big ass TV we have, a window, like a Windows dialogue box. It looks straight out of like MS. DOS. Like, it is like the most lo-fi-looking, like alert video. Like, oh, that's not working right now. A lot of stuff not currently functioning. Any final thoughts, boys, on GTA6
Starting point is 01:01:16 for now? I won't believe it. still we're, it's in our hands till we're right there. I think this, uh, you know, GTA 6 is such a probably once in a lifetime game. It's definitely,
Starting point is 01:01:26 in terms of the video game industry, so far it's been a, this is a once in a lifetime occurrence on our industry. And so as, you know, we deal with the different additions, the blocking stores if you don't buy the delay. Like I can't wait to see what other bat shit crazy news stories we're going to get out of
Starting point is 01:01:42 the little leaks of information before we actually get there and actually have it. The stories thing kind of scared me Oh yeah? Because yeah, you're right Like what else is there? What are they got? What is online going to be? Is online going to be
Starting point is 01:01:56 A-74 is only going to be free to play? That's a whole episode I still want to do because we're going to be a battle pass Service They already have that No like are you going to pay for online Oh it's online like a wild description Maybe
Starting point is 01:02:09 We shall see I really hope You're going to make a lot of money All I can think about is like I hope to God They have a press event I can't wait to go. Yeah. If it ever happens.
Starting point is 01:02:19 And if it doesn't, what are you going to like, how are you going to pay me back? If they say no press events or if they only invite like five people, they don't invite us. And I don't get to go because of my winnings for a game showdown. Yeah, of course. I know exactly what you did there. Yeah, you know what you're going to pay me back? I don't know. We said when we did it, there should be maybe.
Starting point is 01:02:38 There'll be a preview event. I don't know. I don't have an answer on what we're going to do. Oh, man. I feel like the way I set it up was if it doesn't happen, then, hey. I don't know somebody check the tapes let us know in the comments below what you
Starting point is 01:02:52 think about GTA 6 online all of that stuff of course we'll be talking about this game for many many months to come we will get a big reveal I'm sure at some points between now and November 19th that'll be fun to cover another trailer and all that but until then I love you all
Starting point is 01:03:08 goodbye
