What's up and welcome to the Kind of Funny games cast for Monday, August 10th, 20th, Of course, I'm your host, Tim Geddes. I'm joined today by the Master of Hype, Snow, Bike, Mike. Mike, how are you doing?
Starting point is 00:02:49 How was your weekend? Tim, I had a fantastic weekend. I'm feeling good, looking good, hanging out with you on a Monday. You know, it's my favorite day of the week because I get to return to work with Allio. What I like about this is we had a plan for this game's cast. Tam ended up getting food poisoning. Everybody sends some sweet, nasty love to Tam out there. So the games cast had to change.
Starting point is 00:03:09 So now it's just me and Mike hanging out, which is actually kind of a beautiful serendipitous. Serendipitous. Serendipic. Fuck you. I don't care. Guys, again, I'm starting off and I need to let you know. Not today. Okay, everyone.
Starting point is 00:03:22 I'm having one of those days. It's one of those times in life. Not today. Okay? I'm perfect. If I flub words, just let it slide. Okay? Just for today.
Starting point is 00:03:34 Maybe tomorrow. Give them a little grace. Give me the grace. Just a little bit of grace, please. Mike, I'm happy about this, though, because I wanted to talk to you about Shadow the Colossus, about Celeste, about this backlog of games that you've been going to over the last couple months. And I wanted to talk to you about your experiences because you're going through these so much faster than I expected. And on top of that, you're that all of a sudden playing games. I didn't even know you're playing.
Starting point is 00:04:00 Right before we started, you're like, Tim, I'm playing Devil May Cry 5. And I'm like, what? So we're going to talk about all of that. And today's going to be like a fun Mike Adventure Day. going to take us wherever we want to go. If y'all have super chat questions for Snowbike, Mike, about those games or about anything, that's what you're going to want to do. Shout out to our Patreon producers, Carl Jacobs,
Starting point is 00:04:18 and makeup buster, Dillian, to Sondwining, and lax nomad. But now let's begin with what is and forever will be the topic of the show. Tots, tots, dots, dots, dots, dots, dots, dots. It's Mike. Tim, it's me. I got so much to tell you, you know what I mean? I got things I want to tell you. I got things.
Starting point is 00:04:38 I want to reassure you I'm fine with. I got things I can't tell you about it. It's just like life is good, Tim. Yeah. You know what I mean? Everything is good over here. I'm having fun. I'm playing a lot of games.
Starting point is 00:04:48 I wanted to fill you in because, you know, you're my guy. I usually come into work. I look around. There's Scarpino face down. He don't want to talk to me about video games. No, no, no. But I'll tell him about my Little Relo movie I watched last night called Haunted Height, Little Rel rel, Tiffany Haddish, King Batch and Carlos Miller.
Starting point is 00:05:06 Oh, classic lineup. Off I caught it. For $9.99 to rent this, that was a bad idea. No, you know, rented movies like that? Oh, but I'm bad. $10? Tim, Tim, so my nights go like this. I stream.
Starting point is 00:05:19 I love getting home, 515. I turn on the stream. I stream until about 9 to 10 o'clock. Get all the energy out. Then, thanks to Ponton in the chat, got myself a 20-pound weighted vest. So then I'll go on to the treadmill. Four miles.
Starting point is 00:05:35 Steepness, four, this week, five. Speed three. And I'll just watch anything, right? Okay. And so now what I'd be doing, I go to Amazon. I just rent a movie. So instead, I'm sure, Mike, I'm sure that you have access to at the very least, but probably pay for all of the streaming services.
Starting point is 00:05:53 Yeah, yeah. But instead, you actively go to the place to look for things to spend money to rent. I want the new stuff, Tim, and that's the problem. It's like, I want the movie you just said. So this was a 2005 movie, too. I had a look at him on Rod Tramson. It was so bad I had to actively look it up around tomatoes, see what was happening. I need people to understand, like, the thing about people is, and personalities.
Starting point is 00:06:17 You need to understand that people are different, right? The way that you communicate, the way that you understand someone, the good, the bad, everything in between, the love, the friendship, all of that, right? You kind, like, the way that I interact with Barrett is different than the way I interact with Kevin or Nick or Greg or all of that, right? Yeah. But the thing is, all of that falls apart when there's no consistent. consistency of a human being. And the fact that you are simultaneously the most predictable, consistent person I know, but then also you yourself will say one thing and then immediately say something,
Starting point is 00:06:54 the complete opposite. And it somehow is still the most genuine thing in the world. Thanks, Tim. I don't get it. So, yeah, there I am walking miles every night. And so I watch Supergirl. I watch T-Man, you know. It's like what-
Starting point is 00:07:06 What's he-man? Tea man. Pretty cool. too bad. Not too bad. It felt like a little kid with a bunch of toys just banging them together. Yeah. And that was the movie. Skeletor? My favorite part of the movie. Skeletor and Allison Brie? A lot of fun. A lot of fun. I really liked him. Some of the actions. He's pretty cool. I really like the way he looked. I like how dumb his mouth was. Idriselba was there. He was there. He was existing. Yeah. So yeah. It's like that's my kind of nightly routine here, Tim. And so just wanted to fill you in on haunted heist directed by Little Rel. You know, I really like.
Starting point is 00:07:38 Little Rail. Who's a little rel? I think he was the number two guy that came in that worked for TSA. Oh, you know Little Row. I love that. Yeah, Little Rel shout out. Real funny.
Starting point is 00:07:48 I like that whole group, Carlos Miller from Nick Cannon's Wiling Out. You would probably recognize Carlos Miller from him and the bald guy. It's on the tip of my tongue. Not conceded. The other one that really is funny.
Starting point is 00:08:02 They go back and forth all the time. You'd know him. But I thought this is my lineup. Yeah. Click it. Real bad. Real bad. So, yeah, Tim, I'm doing a lot.
Starting point is 00:08:11 I'm having fun. And I want to kick us off. I want to circle back to last week. Because last week we had a brand new game drop. And fighting game Poppy was out of the office. And I had to pick up the fighting game proverbial baton to do the review. And I want to circle back because, hey, I played another night of Marvel Tokon Fighting Souls. Tim, it's lit.
Starting point is 00:08:34 Yeah. Tim, it's late. Because last week, your impressions were based on. playing with the best friends on stream. But you and me, we are fighting game campaign mode guys. Exactly. And you were saving that for this weekend. Did you complete that campaign?
Starting point is 00:08:49 I played the tutteam first. Whoa. First of all, I played the tuttee. A crazy Saturday night. I stepped into the virtual dojo and I said, please teach me how to play the game. And I read every word, every sentence, every dialogue box, I was in it, okay?
Starting point is 00:09:06 There was only a couple things I didn't. understand. I didn't know that you could throw a Y, which is like your long lunging kick, and then also throw another move in the middle of it, and it would kind of like do two at once. That was a lot to understand, lots of grip. But figured out the tag system, really dialed in on the characters that I liked, had a ton of fun with the touch. So shout out to that. Then I jumped into the campaign. There's five campaigns, Tim. They break down each squad. Yep. Each team gets their own essentially 10 to 11 fight campaign, which probably lasts, I don't know, maybe an hour to an hour and a half. They're quite long, Tim, because there's a lot of production in this.
Starting point is 00:09:47 They are fully voice acted. They got awesome, super high anime, I don't know how you'd call it, anime fidelity cutscenes. And then it's also comics come to life. Tim, the campaign was worth the time. It was a ton of fun. I did one out of the five. My only complaint was it felt all too easy on the fights. So I'm hoping that chat said like, hey, when you do one after another, they'll up the fight kind of difficulty.
Starting point is 00:10:13 But it was awesome. It was totally a lot of fun. Have you found your team? Yeah, I'm the uncanny X-Men. I think they're called something else, like the Unbreakable X-Men or something. Magic, danger, storm, Wolverine. That's my squad.
Starting point is 00:10:27 So you just go full X-Men there. Oh, yeah, I'm going full X-Men. Oh, shit. Okay. Well, that's, that's, that's, what their campaign team was. Oh, gotcha, gosh, but I'd say, like, if you were to play again with, oh, I would do that team. Yeah, yeah, okay.
Starting point is 00:10:38 Wolverine's got the lunge and kind of the, the close, the gap speed that I want. Storm is my favorite character, so I'm playing her no matter what. And then magic and danger of the people that I said last week, I gravitated towards the most. So those will be my squad, but I'm excited to see the other ones, right? The bad guys with Dr. Doom, what's their story? Why is Magneto joining Dr. Doom? What's the deal over there? That'll be a cool one.
Starting point is 00:11:01 I'll tell you, ghost rider, he lives by a code. And I want to know what that code is. What's the code? So, yeah, I really enjoyed jumping back into Marvel Tocon Fighting Souls. I really didn't think I would do it, but I'm happy that I opened up my heart and said, you know what, Mike, take the time, play the tutt, play a tutorial. So I'll do the other four campaigns, and I'll be happy with it. Okay.
Starting point is 00:11:22 Are you streaming those? Yeah, I'm streaming those. I'm playing them every now and then, so we'll see what night I pick that, you know. Up next, we'll just jump to it. Before we do that, we have a couple super chats. I want to get to kind of like frame this here. First off, short, nerdy guy says three hernias, how. Yeah, Mike, if you miss James Daly, it was revealed.
Starting point is 00:11:39 We could talk about that. That's what, you know, so when you go in for your ultrasound, very nice mood set, you know what I mean? Like, Carrie actually had to shake me a little bit. She's like, you fall in the sleep. I was like, Carrie, I got a rule. I don't get horizontal in middle of the day because I'll take a nap. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:11:52 I got to stay up at all times. You live by a code. Live by a code. Yeah, it's right? So she's moving it, right? And we got the top hernia, which we all. laughed at and we knew about. And then she goes down, you know, my belly button.
Starting point is 00:12:05 She's like, oh, I was like, what does that mean? He goes, there's another hernia. That explains you know what I mean? Two hernias, technically three. But then she said, what do you do? Because I think she was getting out like, are you weightlifting? Are you like shoveling dirt
Starting point is 00:12:21 every day? Like, are you doing something physical in your life? It was like, I play video games. And she was, she looked like, mm, that's crazy. Yeah. How does want to obtain these hernias without doing anything physical. So that's where we're at now. But we're going to get it fixed.
Starting point is 00:12:38 We're going to get it done, chat. We're going to get it fixed. Okay. Yeah, we got a plan. I'll tell you what. I encourage everyone, go see your doctor, make routine visits, have a good support system behind you. I've built a great one with Dr. Ryan.
Starting point is 00:12:50 Of course, shout out to Natalie, the E&T that we saw. Great plan there. Going to go meet the hernia team. We're going to talk about that. I got a team behind me now. I'm invincible, Tim. It's the most fun I've had in a long time. It's a great time.
Starting point is 00:13:04 Taking care of myself is the most fun. This shit is fun. You know, we've been telling you this for years, Mike. I have clear memories of us having these conversations with you on content back in 2021. We've been telling him to play Zelda. We've been telling him to play Celadena. Here we are. Here we are now.
Starting point is 00:13:22 Five years later. Better late than never. Professor White T says birthday tax, 33 years of life. 2.5 years of kind of funny for me. Happy birthday, dude. El Coppa says, never change Mike. Jabroni boys up. Let's get it. Thank you, homie.
Starting point is 00:13:36 And Lincoln Hawker says, Mike got the Russian nesting doll of hernias. Oh, my lord. Yeah, it'll be interesting to see, like, what the move is. How do you address? Sure will. We'll figure that's down the road. That's down the road. But then Christopher says, Mike, what's your evening schedule like?
Starting point is 00:13:53 Do you have dinner, watch TV, and then game? Or you mostly just gaming after work? So let's start there. Oh, yeah, you want to talk about my day? Yeah, what's that look like? And how are you getting all these backlog games? Yeah, I leave work super depressed. I usually give Tim the puppy eyes.
Starting point is 00:14:06 I beg Andy to stay for another seven hours with me. And then I walk out, I'm uptight. You know what I mean? So I immediately call mom and dad, tell them how great my day was, how much fun I had. You're talking to your mom and dad every day. Every single day, since 18 years old. No way. I called my mom and dad every single day after work.
Starting point is 00:14:22 Because back in the day, I didn't have a commute to work in Tahoe. I would walk to the gondola. Okay. But the gondola ride was 25 minutes. So I had 25 minutes to burn up and down to call someone. So I started the routine of call mom and dad. You believe that snow bike bike's commute was a 25-minute gondola ride up the mountain. Amazing.
Starting point is 00:14:39 That is, I mean, it makes sense. You got to get up there somehow. But that is just such amazing, Lord. So I would call them, tell them about my day. Sometimes crying, complain back at the restaurant. There was just some hard days. Now I tell them about all the cool stuff I do. And then I get home, it's about 5 o'clock.
Starting point is 00:14:56 I immediately turn on both PCs. I drink a little bit of water, maybe a little pineapple juice, jump right on stream. So no dinner at that point. No dinner. I'm not really a dinner guy because my prime time hours are five to ten. So I'll eat some Burger King late at night. We'll talk about that later.
Starting point is 00:15:12 We'll talk about that later. We're not there yet. We're not there yet, Tim. And so, yeah, 515 to about 9 to 10. In a perfect world, we'd wrap up at 9. That gives me an hour to work out. Then I'm in bed by 10 to 11, not falling asleep. But right now it's like 5 to 10, wrap up.
Starting point is 00:15:28 hit the treadmill. Past month, Tim, you'd be proud. Past month's step count, freaking it. I'm making a change. It's starting now. I'll tell you what, average step count before this month, this past July, 3,000 steps a day. Okay.
Starting point is 00:15:44 10,000 now. 10,000. July was 10,000. I'm up in it. Okay. So I'm working on it. But where's the burger can come in? Because you said, well, then I get to 11 o'clock,
Starting point is 00:15:53 and now I'm hungry. Oh, okay. Now I get to 11 o'clock and I'm like, ooh. Time to have my way. Feeling it now, you know what I mean? So it's like, what does Burger King got? Because I'm going to say it, Tim. If it's not in and out, Burger King has the best burger out of the Wendy's McDonald's Burger King
Starting point is 00:16:08 Trio. I disagree, but I respect the opinion. Okay, I expound a little bit more. Tell me, which one is it? Just the Whopper? Oh, no, I always get the Kits burger. I don't like anything else. I just want to, I want meat, bun, meat bun cheese as basic as possible.
Starting point is 00:16:23 Jesus Christ. I don't want a whopper. I don't want no mayo on it. I don't want a Big Mac. I don't need a Wendy's baconator. I just want meat, bun, cheese. You're going to Burger King for a child's burger. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:35 And it's an unfortunate world that we live in because those burgers back in the day used to be 99 cents. Buck 29, buck, 50, you understand. Now McDonald's Burger King, Wendy's, they're charging $4 for a single hamburger. Yeah. Where have we gone? Why? How did we lose it? You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:16:53 But I get Burger King because that's my favorite. Okay. And some chicken fries. I love those chicken fries. Those chicken fries do. And if I'm feeling like Roger that day, a little bit of onion rings. He loves onion rings.
Starting point is 00:17:05 I love the Burger King onion rings. Burk King French toasticks. Had those? Those will change your life. And so, yeah, that's like, that's the late night snack and then bedtime, which usually consists of a lot of Instagram reels or some sort of bad movie.
Starting point is 00:17:23 Always sunny in Philadelphia, anime, whatever it could be. Okay. Instagram Reels, I send the Nick and I laugh. So there's a lot of game time, obviously. A lot of game. Here streaming and then home streaming. How much game time's happening that's not streamed?
Starting point is 00:17:38 Oh, not much. Okay. Not much. Unless I'm doing embargo things or like I'm streaming, yeah, or work stuff. But yeah, it's all, everything that I play is pretty much streamed. Yeah. So you have been going back to the classics, which of course I love. I love hearing you.
Starting point is 00:17:55 even you playing exhibition 33 later in the year than everyone else last year. That was so fun to get that, you know, rejuvenated. Like a second wins type of thing. Like, yeah, just like, damn, oh my God, this happened, this happened. Like, I love that. I love the energy that you bring. And then you played Final Fantasy 10, a game very near and dear to my heart. I love seeing you.
Starting point is 00:18:16 I still get comments on that video. I love that. Isn't that crazy? Yeah. It's a, it's a lovely time. It really is a special one. But then you went from that to all of the 3D Zelda's. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:18:25 Yeah. And then now you had Shadow the Colossus. That's just done. That one knocked. I could have knocked that out in the night. The chat was saying, like, you could do this,
Starting point is 00:18:33 Mike. I wanted to make it go longer because it was just so much fun. And so, yeah, it was my first time, Tim, played the Blue Point remake.
Starting point is 00:18:41 That's one talented team. Oh, I know. I wonder what they're going to do next. Hope they make a lot more games, you know what I mean? Because they are talented as all can be.
Starting point is 00:18:47 Fucking bullshit. Wow. You open up, and it's almost like Zelda like, right? I'm riding the high off of Zelda, and you open up to this beautiful fantasy world.
Starting point is 00:18:56 Killer music, no words. Just a man on a horse with somebody wrapped up in a blank and you're like, I don't know what he's doing, but he's just riding. And this hawk is soaring over the above and they're showing this beautiful fantasy landscape. You got planes to the left. You got the desert to the right.
Starting point is 00:19:12 And he's rolling up on this mega castle. No words. You're like, what's going on here? And it just was the perfect setup for me to be like, I'm into this idea. What is it? And then you hear that thou's first colossi. And you're like, what?
Starting point is 00:19:26 And he's like, go to the south and murder this giant troll. And you're like, all right. And then, yeah, you roll up. Thing is seven buildings tall and you climb up. It's like climbing the agro crag back in guts and Nickelodeon. Yeah, it's exactly like that. You're finding the route. And the horse's name.
Starting point is 00:19:44 Agro. Exactly. Or potato in my case. I just named a potato fun. Yeah. You know what I mean? And you're climbing the fur. You're finding the different routes.
Starting point is 00:19:51 and then you find the weak spots on them and then you slay them. And it was like, what a cool idea. And it was simple of like, you understand it right off the bat. There's no questions. There's no weight points. It's just you with a sword
Starting point is 00:20:04 on the horse figuring out your way and exploring this beautiful, awesome world. And I couldn't get enough. I remember when you played Ocarena of time, you were like genuinely mind-blown where you're like, I can't believe they were making games like this back then. You grew up with an N-64,
Starting point is 00:20:19 but you were playing a lot of different games. And we all were. We all played a bunch of different stuff. But you playing and experiencing Ocarina in 2026, you were like, how were they doing this in 1998? Shout to the Colossus. Did you get a similar feeling thinking about that game coming out in 2005 on the PlayStation 2?
Starting point is 00:20:35 I couldn't believe that this was running on a PS2, first of all, which would have been insane to see. They were that giant back then too. Like, I cannot believe that. But yeah, I was blown away to him. I was like, man, where was I? Because then we play the fun game of like transporting yourself back and what were you playing, right?
Starting point is 00:20:52 And at the PS2 at that time, I was playing a lot of Grand Theft Auto, NCAA football, right? Whatever, like, the big main titles were, but I was definitely not, I didn't even know about Shadow of the Colosses. So this was all an eye-opening experience, you know? And then, yeah, 16, and all of them, very unique,
Starting point is 00:21:10 some similar, but, like, very unique of, like, the fun of figuring out how to climb up the side of them, what you have to do, the one in the lake, the electric eel in the lake, where you're waiting for it to come, and then you grab a hold of it and its tail pops up like it's a whale and you're underwater and then it comes back up to surface and you run, run, run, grab it again. The hawk in the awesome bird cage and you're like, how am I going to get this bird that is a thousand yards the other direction to come and swing over to me? And then it flies and swoops in on you and you're like, I don't know what to do and you just jump and hope that you grab a hold of its wings.
Starting point is 00:21:43 Awesome idea. And all I'm doing is while I'm playing this, then I'm going, I'm having the time of my life. I'm experiencing something that I never thought was possible back then. And now it's still holding up in 2026. And in my mind, I'm going, surely they've made 20 of these. And they're like, no, Mike. No. And I said, I would have tripled down on this.
Starting point is 00:22:06 I mean, it truly is a one of a kind. Like there is Eco, there's Last Guardian, and there are elements that are shared between the three of those games. But Charlotte of the Colossus is very much its own thing, which I think is, one of its strengths is that, like, you can't just keep doing this. Like, like, how much did the, without spoiling it directly? How much did the ending affect you?
Starting point is 00:22:27 Tim, that was crazy. That was crazy. Tim, I wish I could pop the top on the spoilers, but I won't just in case you haven't played this. Because I would call this a must-play video game. Leaving the Zelda's, those are must-play video games. This is truly a, you should play this video game, no matter who you are. Just give it a try and be wowed by what was going down. but like the twists and the turns of that
Starting point is 00:22:50 and then what happens and you're like what is this is crazy stuff here and then like yeah at the end I was feeling something there was a lot of questions the final boss is awesome the giant battle skirt and climb up the side of that you're like whoa and yeah every single one of them has the LeBron
Starting point is 00:23:08 James bald spot on their head which I really enjoyed you know we get a Twitter post about LeBron James bald spot it looks like all of them you know and then yeah you just stab them blood squirting out of their heads you stab them again awesome tim or the little ones the little boar and the little dog and the bore they got to scare with fire and then the dog that is like destroying the level as you go and you're jumping from pillar to pillar as it bulldozes it over
Starting point is 00:23:34 who's thinking of that come on who's doing that you know and then i thought of some inspirations yeah because i always come to you i'm like well like where am i getting this experience right and so like i guess i got a shout out um monster hunter i feel like i get close to this this. Nothing like this scale, but like you definitely get to like, hey, here's a giant open world, go find this gigantic monster and slay it. That's like the only thing close that I felt like I was getting out of this, you know, in the future. It's, it is very, very different. But I do think there are enough similarities for me to say, you just beat the 3D Zeldas, you just beat Shadow the Colossus. Do you have any plans to go back to Breath of the Wild? Yeah, eventually. Because I do feel like
Starting point is 00:24:15 there's a lot of overlap. Really? Yeah, I mean, not in a purely direct way. Am I crazy saying that, Barrett? Like, I feel like the concept, the openness of Shadow and the openness of Earth the Wild, there's something there. Initially, I could see what you're, what the parallels you're drawing from. Even the sky dragons and shit, you know, like.
Starting point is 00:24:40 Yeah, there's something there. I just, Shadow is such a. Like, yes, quote unquote, open world, but it's such a small contained thing. But I think there's definitely something in the presentation in similar moments for sure. The sky dragon in the desert, Tim, that comes out. It's just a good year blimp. It's floating along. And you're blowing up its giant egg sacks.
Starting point is 00:25:04 And then it comes to the ground. And you have to use the horse to get enough speed to put the momentum onto you, jumping onto its wing that is dragging through the desert. this game, all-timer. Oh, yeah. Awesome. I mean, dude, it is an all-timer. And yeah, you were saying at the end,
Starting point is 00:25:20 it made you're emotional, you're feeling for these characters. And then after this, you play Celeste. Or maybe before this, you play. I played Celeste before, yeah, yeah. I am so proud of you for playing Celeste, for beating Celeste for 175 strawberries. I have two, maybe three B-sides left and the moon.
Starting point is 00:25:37 I don't know, the moon's tough to him. Yeah. Whoa, but I'm in it. I would go back and finish the B-sides, is what I would say to that game. Yeah. You want to talk about it? Let's talk about it.
Starting point is 00:25:48 Celeste is so good. This is a game that I already knew was so good a long time ago, and I've just never been big into the, I don't know what you'd call, the other super meat boys, the baby steps, the Metroidvania likes that are just hard platforming games. You know,
Starting point is 00:26:06 Mario Maker comes to my mind whenever I think of Grant Pooh Bear, my good friend and all the things that he does with like the super hardcore platforming in Mario. But I always knew this game was good. I always knew it had great emotion and storytelling, but I never gave it a try because I just didn't want to bang my head into a wall. And I finally said, you know what? I want to do it thanks to one of our community members, Spall.
Starting point is 00:26:27 And I opened up my heart and Tim, I fell in love with it right away. Yeah. This game rock. There's something I think that is so great about the gameplay of this one, where it's kind of room-based. So I feel like they, with rare exception, it's always the perfect level of trial and error that it doesn't get frustrating because you're doing the same thing
Starting point is 00:26:44 over and over and over. But then once you achieve that goal, you're onto another challenge. And they're pieced very, very well. And they also always tempt you with that damn strawberry. Right. There's always that extra level of the risk and reward of extra challenge resulting and just like even more satisfaction.
Starting point is 00:27:01 But not getting it, you still feel satisfied and just getting to the next room. But then on top of that, there's this beautiful story in a 2D platformer. Like, did that surprise you? Yeah, I knew about the story, but I think it was even more surprising, finishing it and, like, meeting the characters, right? Like, as I like to call her, evil Maddie, right?
Starting point is 00:27:19 Maddie the baddie. You have Theo's in there, the grandma's in there, the hotel. Mr. O, as I called him, is in there. And it's like, everybody's contributing something where it's like, oh, wow, there's a message here. Like, there is something about getting to the peak and working through the inner demons and the feelings that everybody goes through, right? and even Maddie the baddies going through something
Starting point is 00:27:41 and you've got to have that confidence because yeah we all have a little self-doubt we are scared of certain things and failure right and I really liked that a lot of all of it came across and some right where you kind of reflect and I didn't think a game that's as tough as nails as this
Starting point is 00:27:56 was going to have me reflect on myself and think about like oh the struggles the things that I'm afraid of the things that I want to overcome and climb to the top of really enjoyed yeah what a beautiful marriage room based is great I'm coming hot off of Super Meat Boy 3D. I haven't played the original Super Meat Boy, but I was coming hot off of Super Meat Boy 3D and baby steps.
Starting point is 00:28:17 So there is something inside of me that wants to do the super challenging stuff and overcome the obstacles in front of me. And this is laid out so perfectly where you start, you learn about the dash, then you get the double dash, or oh, you're going through these crazy galaxy flubber tubes that give you, you know, super boost plus another one. you're getting chased by Maddie the baddie running for your life.
Starting point is 00:28:40 You're finding strawberries for the extra challenge. You're going to B sides and they're changing up the levels in such a way where it's like they're the same levels, but they feel so new and fresh as well. It's awesome. This is another must play game. Yeah, 100%. Love it so much. Mike, I want to keep talking to.
Starting point is 00:28:57 We've got some super chats I want to get to. If you have more questions for Mike, please super chat them in. Mackin Awesome says, love that you call your folks every day, Mike. I called my stepmom every day till she died and now kind of funny shows fill that void.
Starting point is 00:33:21 Y'all have got me through some tough times. Never changed, KF. Thank you, homie, and thank you for letting us be a small part of your life. Yeah, I've loved calling them. I make a big joke. I call three people every day. It's my mom, my dad, and my little brother. And, you know, one of them will probably not answer, but like I'll get to one of the two of them.
Starting point is 00:33:38 Talk to them, just check in. You know, it's usually the small little stuff, but why not? That's great, dude. I mean, that's so, so great. Luke David, bringing in some advice here for you, Mike, take it or leave it, saying, I love pizza too much, I get it. But Mikey, I've managed to lose 30 pounds and I'm aiming for 40. Start having a good dinner and cut out those late burgers.
Starting point is 00:33:56 You're doing amazing with the walking, proud of you. Thanks, homie. Yeah, that's the thing we're working on. Of course, if you tuned into a latest kind of funny podcast, you saw my snack box, right? And that is replacing, have you seen the snack boxes? I have not. Roger, if you're listening, bring in my snack boxes for Tim to see, please. I have these awesome snack boxes that are trying to really.
Starting point is 00:34:14 place my midday, what's DoorDash, what's the Wendy's meal at work here? And so that's usually consisting of chopped up bell peppers. That's consisting of cucumber, tziki and hummus. So that's been like my goal past the past month of like, hey, how do I slow down with that? Slow down with the water bottles and Starbucks. So I'm doing well with that. But it is once I get home, now what's happening. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:34:40 And so like, yeah, I would say the next 60 days is dialing in. the diet, but the movement's been great. You know, movement's been fantastic. Take this walk, Tim. I'm sure you've seen it over by my house way up there. There's a couple lakes, like reservoirs over there. Yeah. You know, I walk like the whole reservoir,
Starting point is 00:34:57 and sometimes I feel like I want to die and call an Uber, and I'm like, you're only halfway, just do the second half. Then I'll do the second half back. Fantastic. So it's been a good, good first month, looking to improve the second month and beyond. But, yeah, that late night snack, you think about that Oreo milkshake late at night?
Starting point is 00:35:14 Now you're out of an Oreo milkshake. This thing about the Oriole milkshake late at night. Oh, my God. Stop it. Oh, man. A loyal freak says, Mike, that sweet, sweet persona hole still calling you. We need you to answer. Tim, it's like, where do I go next?
Starting point is 00:35:28 I know we're going to talk about that here in kind of the second half of this show. But like, yeah, I asked everybody, give me a bracket of must-play games. I love going to Metacritic and seeing the top 100 games ranked, you know. I go to IG and I go to all these. I just type in Google top 100 games. Anybody that has a list, I'll look at theirs and go, what have I not played here, right? What am I interested in?
Starting point is 00:35:49 And so, yeah, persona calls. There's a lot of like 40 plus hour games, I call it, where it's like, oh, that's going to be my month, we'll call that. So it's like persona's on there, trails in the sky is on there. There's some other ones. Cyberpunk. There's just like big games. It's like, where do you want to go?
Starting point is 00:36:07 So this is kind of a silly question because I partly know the answer, but like, do you think that playing these games is changing who you are as a gamer? Because I want to just even jump ahead. It's like, you know, playing Fire on Three Houses, you were now jazzed about Fortune's Weave. Like, you were now day one going to play a game that you would have not touched otherwise. Like, how much do you see these experiences
Starting point is 00:36:25 changing your tastes going forward? Yeah, I think they've changed a lot, Tim, right? I think if you look at young Mike, whether it be teenage Mike to early 20s, Mike, it was a lot of ball and gun games, call of duty. There was a lot of NBA baton. There was plenty of Skyrims.
Starting point is 00:36:43 and kingdoms of mammal or stuff like that. But like I definitely have opened up my heart now to be more receptive to tactics games, turn-based JRPs, right? And now I'm more excited. I'm more interested in trying new games, learning about them and seeing them for me, right? That one to three hours that I would have to open up my heart and try where I'd be like, no, I got this already, I'm good.
Starting point is 00:37:06 Now I'm like, you know what? Let's see what happens, see if I like it. Yeah. I feel like it all started for me with Pickman. when you're like, Tim, let me, let me give Pickman for a shot. Yeah. And now here you are. Tim, I'm a, I'm a goal-oriented guy.
Starting point is 00:37:19 I love getting a list of here's your to-does. And I love attacking that list. And Pickman is that, right? I forget the motto that they say that means like completing tasks that I fell in love with. But like, I love, hey, give me the list. Let's see how you can organize that and achieve it as a fast, sustainable time. And Pickman is great. Where do we get in another pickment?
Starting point is 00:37:42 Is that high-end? the list for Nintendo Pickman? Yes, it is. Really? Yeah, Mimodo loves Pickman. Good for him. But with that, it's like, you know, it took a long time for Ford to end up coming out, but we'll get a Switch to Pickman. Like, will I get a Luigi's Mansion before another
Starting point is 00:37:57 Pickman? I think we're due Luigi's Mansion, and Luigi's Mansion sells very, very well. Okay. Like, surprisingly well. Yeah. So I think we'll get a Luigi's mansion next year. Um, Picman might be the year after that, though. Like, I'll play Luigi's Mansion. You know what I mean? I played three. I played three. Like,
Starting point is 00:38:13 I would play more Nintendo games than I would ever be open to, right? Like, I think if we could rewind time and that Peach game came in front of me, I would probably even give that a shot nowadays, as opposed to years ago going, no, I'm good on that, right? It's like, I'm more open to trying that, right? Yeah, you don't need that one. That one's okay. But Kirby and the Forgotten Land, that's a really fun one.
Starting point is 00:38:34 I love that one. Oh, you played it. Oh, shit. I don't remember that. Yeah, yeah. But yeah, it's cool that you're jumping into all this. Joel Hawkins says, can I just say, I've been playing big hops from Greg suggesting that game,
Starting point is 00:38:45 fucks, more of y'all got to play it. Man, we played the multiplayer beta of that now that it's fully out. That was a lot of fun, right? Like, if I could, if we weren't dragging along, poor Nick, who had no idea what was happening, we'd have a ton of fun. That's a nice little joking, Nick. We had a good time, me and Roger running around that.
Starting point is 00:39:02 So, yeah, cool ideas on that game. Speaking of playing games on stream, I can't stop thinking about that game we played on Friday. Machine party. Machine party. that was a blast. Tim, who knew? Six dollar game on Steam.
Starting point is 00:39:15 It's a weird, what if Mario Party met Saw? Yeah. Like, Fusion frenzy Mario Party meets Saw's right. Just this weird multiplayer party game that is, all of the mini games were so much fun and had such an interesting graphic style.
Starting point is 00:39:34 Like this game, I thought it was just gonna be like some stupid ass slop. Yeah. And it wasn't. No, it, I mean, they've sold half a million copies as of last week. I'm sure it's only on the up. And yeah, Tim,
Starting point is 00:39:46 I'm surprised because when I give you guys these games, it is usually the friend slop genre of like, hey, here's what's hot right now. And sometimes they're good. Sometimes they're not. That one's surprisingly above and beyond very good. Like that one's, you know what it's like pummel party.
Starting point is 00:40:02 We're like, oh, pummel party's a good game. That's a good Mario Party like. Yeah. This is like add that to your friend lineup for you. You definitely should. And I also feel like we, need to do follow-up streams with different combinations of people. For sure.
Starting point is 00:40:14 Whenever, I'm usually out of my desk and my desk is one of the closer desks to the lab. And I know when y'all are having me blast with the game and when y'all are just playing again, you know, this is one of those games where if I was on the outside, I can hear blessing laughing. I can hear Joey screaming.
Starting point is 00:40:30 Like, it's like, it's such a, like, whoa, there's something here. Hey, that one's high on the list for sure.
Starting point is 00:40:37 Big walks high on my list. We played mecha chameleon. that one took over the world. That one's still a lot of fun, the cool paint, hide and seek game. Good for them. And yeah, there's always some, here's my rule, though.
Starting point is 00:40:48 This is my new rule for developers out there that are putting their games on social media and sharing the friend slop-like games. No more, hey, this is TBD announced, right? If you're going to announce the game, it should be out that day or that week because there's so much momentum, Tim, with these friend-slop-like games
Starting point is 00:41:06 where it's like the trailer comes out and all they can talk about. is that one playing game that had the Donald Truff and Jeffrey Epstein joking it that was real bad. They immediately nose dived, right? But it's like, you get a million plus people watching these things at like that moment. That game should be out. Because then I go, oh, I want to play this game. Oh, Mike, you should play this game.
Starting point is 00:41:27 Play this game. It's like, there's no date on this. And I'm going to forget about this. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Every game should be out. I have no idea what game you're talking about. But oh, my God, Tim, the playing game looked good until it took a hard. No, I don't forget what it's going. Hard nose dive. Hard nose not. Oscar says the Kingdom
Starting point is 00:41:44 Hearts train is waiting for you, Mike. A lot more stops to make before Kingdom Hearts 4. So here's the deal, Tim. You know, my promise was this year we'd play Kingdom Hearts 3 are kind of funny and we will, right? But I am gathering what's next. Chain of memories changed me. I love chain of memories. It might be my favorite Kingdom Hearts experience, even though I didn't play it. I just like that story so much. But like, what are the in-between's this and three that I need to to play. I mean, you got to play birth by sleep. You know, you got to play birth by sleep, I would say. I got to play it? I, yeah, I think so. It's also one of the better ones, in my opinion. How long to beat? How long you think? Oh, probably. 14 hours. It was a PSP game, so it's.
Starting point is 00:42:27 Okay, this one says 25 to 30 hours. If you focus. Maybe, yeah. Okay. And you think that's a must play. I think so. Okay. It's a lot of background information, but I think it's important stuff. And again, it's good and it has like interesting Disney worlds as well and it plays more similarly to the core titles than some of the other ones do we'll ever see roxas again i don't know spoilt oh shit oh okay okay okay yeah um but yeah otherwise i i don't know i don't know what people would recommend like what's the line up what are y'all thinking like what do you think mike needs to do because like i'm we were talking about this uh on games daily a little bit like Someone in chat, I forgot their name, I'm sorry,
Starting point is 00:43:10 but they said that the more Kingdom Hearts games they play, the less they understand. And I am kind of in a similar place. And I'm not talking shit at all. I love it for you if you are full on in on the Organization 13 stuff and the more Kingdom Hearts lore side of it compared to the Disney side of it and just like the crossover elements and stuff,
Starting point is 00:43:30 good for you. And I love that. And I love that you understand the story because I totally believe you do. I'm not even being sarcastic. I totally believe, I know everyone over makes fun. of it and like all that stuff it's like no no no there is something there it does make sense to people
Starting point is 00:43:42 and it's a language they get and they understand it good for you i don't understand it i don't i don't speak i feel like i get it tim yeah i feel like i feel like i feel like my hands are in the soil like so early though yeah i understood it to the point you're at okay yeah yeah yeah it just it gets it hits a point where it's like you can only put xs in so many places and do i enjoy just the disney villain being the evil villain and we got to defeat that disney villain who is then harnesses the darkness, yes. But then when we incorporated Organization 13 and how that plays into a factor, yeah, I really enjoyed that as well. But, man. Spider-Night says play birth by sleep and just watch recap slash cutscene videos for the others. Um, 358 over two days is a must watch. Um,
Starting point is 00:44:26 well, then we might just tap me in the lab. The most recent collection on modern platform. Some of the games were remade into movies so you can go that route. Yeah. See, that that's kind of where I'm at, man. Like I, and again, this is not the, number one Kingdom Hearts fan recommendation. This is just the Tim Getty's. I love Kingdom Hearts. Recommendation to you is like, I think you need to play birth by sleep.
Starting point is 00:44:46 I think you need to at least watch all the other things. But then play three. I don't know that you need to play any of the other ones. But I'm excited. That will be, that's going to be my year will be Kingdom Hearts 3. We'll finish that. I like that.
Starting point is 00:45:02 So persona's too big. You'll get to it one day. But like that's one of the list right now. It's kind of like we're playing the game of like, what can I be in a week with my, you know, 25 hours of stream time after work, Monday through Friday, we'll say. And then what do I want to attack for like my big month, right? We had kingdom come deliverance two, took over my life.
Starting point is 00:45:22 That was awesome. Final Fantasy took over. That was awesome. Still need to play 10-2. I will play 10-2. God, I love those girls. So much fun. I love that for you.
Starting point is 00:45:31 I want to experience 10-2 through you. 10-2. Played a little bit of the one with lightning. Again. Enjoyed the start of lightnings, Canada. Yeah, yeah, yeah. A little bit there. There's the other one that's more Star Wars medieval one.
Starting point is 00:45:41 Like the look of that, didn't play that yet. That's like a 12 or something like that. Oh, 12. That's like a lot of people's favorite Final Fantasy. Really? Yeah. Like the ride or die, rock for 12. Okay.
Starting point is 00:45:58 Okay. So yeah, I'm just juggling that. And so that's where I've landed tonight of I have games like a Jedi that I want to go and play. I want to play the Jedi games, right? or I want to play Alan Wake 2 in preparation for control, right? These are all smaller titles that, like, I'll probably beat in a week to two weeks,
Starting point is 00:46:16 depending on how much I'm playing. And then it was like, do you remember how much fun I had with Devil May Cry 3? Holy cow. The two bros? Oh, yeah. And how great that was, like, awesome, in your face combat, rocking metal soundtrack,
Starting point is 00:46:32 two dudes. How do you watch the anime? You know what? I watched about three episodes of it. And you just gave up. Yeah, it's like the limited time I watch. You should replace one of your Always Sunny in Philadelphia's. Watch Devil May Cry.
Starting point is 00:46:47 I think you'll really enjoy it. Like, it's all the right levels of stupid. And it's like they, I really like their take on the Devil May Cry stuff. Okay. And there are people that disagree. That's totally okay. I think you'll love it. Okay.
Starting point is 00:46:59 Because there I am, Tam and I go, you know what I want to play? Devil May Cry 5. So you get into it last night. This week, though this week I'll start. I'll start tonight. Oh, you haven't started yet. Yeah, so I'll start tonight with Devil May Cry 5. I'm excited to see it, right?
Starting point is 00:47:12 Are my blonde bros returning? I don't know. There's a blonde dude on the front of this. I don't know who he is. Is he my guy? I don't know. Dante Virgil, blue and red. Come on.
Starting point is 00:47:23 Pale as old as time. It was so cool, Tim. So, yeah, I'm riding the high. Unfortunately, DMC 3 is peak. Okay. And I fucking love 5. It's just like the thing is, three is just so, so damn good.
Starting point is 00:47:37 So do we expect Capcom to have a Devil May Cry 6 here? See, that's the thing. We were talking again about this recently where the head producer left. So it doesn't fill me with confidence. Having said that, you look at Capcom right now, and they're on such a winning streak. And that winning streak is a combo of high-quality remakes in the RE engine and new installments.
Starting point is 00:48:00 And we see so much success with that across the board. We're going to get Devil McCry. Like the numbers are in, Devil May Cry, five sold more this year than it did the year it came out because of the anime and because of it being ported to popular systems. So I, you know that they're going to do something. I feel like a Devilman Cry One remake is inevitable at some point. But it could be next year or it could be 10 years from now.
Starting point is 00:48:29 I don't know. But like I do think we will get that. But at DMC 6, I mean, you'll see the end of five. it leaves it open for a sick. Really? Yeah. Okay. So I just don't, I don't know what that looks like and when we'll ever get it. Like I was genuinely shocked when DMC5 was announced. Like that felt like it's not a guarantee.
Starting point is 00:48:50 Yeah. Like it, in some ways it's like, oh, it's one of Capcom's most popular franchise. That doesn't matter. You know, like, because four, I enjoyed the hell out of four, but it was a major step down from three. Could they do another remake similar to Resident Evil? could you see them going to like a one, two or three going? I think one gets a remake route. I think one gets a remake for like,
Starting point is 00:49:12 and I think that makes a lot of sense. Like I think one is the one that I think needs a remake the most in terms of modernizing gameplay. Two is the one that needs to completely retake. Like two is one of those bad games. Two is one of the, I think, very rare. Like I would use that as an example. We always talk about Uncharted 2 and Assassin's Creed 2 is like,
Starting point is 00:49:32 wow, sequels that really leveled up the game. Devil May Cry is an example of a sequel that fucking shit the bed. I've never been more devastated. I've told the story so many times, Mike. It's 2003, two. I don't fucking know. It's the early 2000s. I think, too.
Starting point is 00:49:51 I go to EB Games, RIP. Okay? Well, it's just a game stop now, soon to be RIP. And I'm pre-ordering games. You get all the stupid bonus pre-order shit, collector discs, soundtracks, posters, whoever the hell knows, right? Living my best life. go there, can't wait to pick up Devil McRye 2.
Starting point is 00:50:09 The sequel to one of my favorite games. Holy shit, this is so special. I walked there. The guy looks at me and goes, ooh, see the review? He hands me a game informer in front of me and I flip it open and whatever the review score was. Shocked me.
Starting point is 00:50:22 No. It's the moment that I learned. Oh, you can't just expect games are going to be good. Wow. My naive, fragile child mind, I thought, oh yeah, it has to be good. it's just there's no way deviling cries has proven itself it can't be dad
Starting point is 00:50:39 I got home played that game Mike oh my god top three worst sequels in your mind deviling cry too is number one give me give me a couple more it does not to be like ranked or anything what are some other sequels that didn't land hit me with a couple
Starting point is 00:50:54 I can't think of any that disastrous I'm too stuck on it right now but yeah so disastrous that bad it was disaster but then they followed it up with three which was fucking amazing yeah yeah and there was the cool thing about two. You could run on walls.
Starting point is 00:51:09 Every game had you running on walls on the PS2. Hell yeah. You know, running on walls was cool. Yeah, I don't know. I'm looking at chat to get some answers.
Starting point is 00:51:21 I'm not agreeing with a lot of these. Okay. Like you said, drop an MGS 5. No, no. No. A lot of issues with that game.
Starting point is 00:51:28 I'm like, no. Force Unleashed two. Yeah. That's a good idea. That's a good example there. That was tough. That was one that was like super weird too
Starting point is 00:51:37 because I remember waiting for that because I loved the first one. And, but I was also not super tuned in, right? And I just remember seeing it, like, already discounted at Amoeba. I think, like, a month after it had come out. And I was like, oh, shit, this is out. And I played it. It was five hours.
Starting point is 00:51:55 And it was real bad. Is Def Jam fight for New York better than Def Jam won? Yes. Okay. Definitely. Totally different game, right? Def Jam Vandetta was more, like, in a wrestling, right? Yeah, I think I just have more nostalgia for Vendetta.
Starting point is 00:52:13 Oh, really? Yeah, because it was the first one. I remember it the most. I think I kind of black out on the second one. I don't remember what's happening on that one. I have to take a look. Yeah, I would use that as an example of like, oh, they leveled everything up. Okay, okay, okay.
Starting point is 00:52:29 That kind of like reminds me of like Tony Hawk's Underground compared to the pro skater games. Like, it's like, it was like a big jump up of stuff. yeah I'm not really seeing okay I'm not seeing too many examples of bad of bad sequels specifically not second games there are bad sequels of like you know down the line Tony I'm supposed to get a five fucking sucked
Starting point is 00:52:53 yeah but like I don't count that that's that's I hate that um so you you played Celeste which was a surprise to me just because I didn't expect you to play that type of game oh good and then and I hunted those strawberries and you crushed it I got addicted to the So, Metroidvenius. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:53:11 One of my favorite genres. I don't think you have much experience with them, do you? No, the only one would be, um, Ory. Okay. Love Ory. Love Ory. Both of them. Ory is fantastic. Love Ory. Ory breaks my heart. Because I feel like we're never going to get another one.
Starting point is 00:53:25 And that's very sad. Yeah. And also just the more you hear about like the creator of the game and just like, what the fuck, dude? Yeah, it seems an odd story. It doesn't make sense. I can't put those things together in my mind of like how did something so beautiful come from somebody that says the things that they say.
Starting point is 00:53:44 I don't know. You know, I think we're lucky to have both of those. I think we just live in a very lucky world to get both of those. And so, yeah, I think that's where I kind of go, Tim, played a good amount of the Prince lost crown. Prince of Persia really enjoyed that. What's the people who are making the Castlevania game coming up? The rogue like Metroidvania, dead cells played a good amount of that.
Starting point is 00:54:11 Yeah, no, Metroidvania has never been high on my list. It's funny you bring it up because I was going to ask the world, what's the Castlevania I play? Because that's the thing. It's Symphony of the Night is the answer. Hands down. Hands down. Not even a question. It's Symphony of the Night.
Starting point is 00:54:25 Is it old? Yeah, 1996, I want to say. Oh, interesting. But the thing about it, Mike, is we have the New Castlevania from the Dead Cells team coming out like next month. I know. But it was like, is that supposed to be my first Castlevania? I don't know. We haven't played it.
Starting point is 00:54:39 I haven't even seen previews of it. I know they did happen. And I heard the vibes sound good, but like, I don't know. But I think it might be the right move. Like, I think just jumping into the new one is going to be like. That'll be my Castlevania. Having said that, you should play symphony the night. It's amazing.
Starting point is 00:54:55 But then the other thing is like, I'm always going to push Super Metroid because I love Super Metroid. But I will say that this is another thing. Not everyone agrees with me on this. I think that Super Metroid. controls a little dated and that gets in the way of it being Tim, how could you? Dude, I know, I know.
Starting point is 00:55:17 I think that's what you get me, Tim, is it controlling slash looking kind of dated, right? When you go back to my journey so far, I haven't played anything truly old old. Yeah. Right? Like Final Fantasy 10 is a turn-based game. It never felt like it was crazy.
Starting point is 00:55:34 My Zelda experiences were very modern, So it's like, I haven't gone back to the old, old games yet. Yeah, and that's the thing is I, to, you know, expand a little bit more on the Super Metroid feel. It's like, it is part of the design of the game. Like, Samus jumping has this very intentional arc to her jumps, whether it's just the normal jump or the spin jump. Like, there's reasons for it, but I just think that comparing it and I play the, I replay the Metro games a lot. So it's like, there's just something about you play Metroid dread. which is the most recent one
Starting point is 00:56:10 on the switch and I'm just like wow this this controls like a dream like it controls so well and then you go back and it's just like damn and I do still think those games more than hold up
Starting point is 00:56:21 that's not even a question Super Metro it holds up period but I do find it hard to recommend it to somebody as like their first jump into that stuff there's also rumors of a remake you can play it on NSO that's why I click on it
Starting point is 00:56:34 but I would hold off because like there are a couple multiple people like talking about the chances of a super metro remake being high and i think that that would solve a lot of the problems but the design of super metro is pretty much unmatched like the level designed the con it being Metroidvanias are called Metroid manias because of that course of course like that game super Metroid so and then the end of the night yeah those two interesting yeah i just think of orion orion how great that was from the movement that's reversal the limited combat into
Starting point is 00:57:06 the number two, of course, as well. And just like how that game made me feel the look and the beauty of it. It's like, it's hard to beat that game. And so if you find me another one like that, I'd probably try it for sure. That's a, that's an area I'm lacking in for sure. I would try again. Yeah. Try some new ones.
Starting point is 00:57:23 Uh, cutting forward to says, disagree 100%. The Super Nintendo GBA Metro games hold up really well. Thousand percent recommend. I recommend everyone give it a shot. But I just, I think it, I mean, I know for a fact that I've had some of my friends who have went back and tried to get into older games and it's just like they can't do it
Starting point is 00:57:40 but then they play Metro Dread and they're like I love this one so it's like I but if your brain can work with it and you are an old man that's played these games so you enjoy that feel dude it's one of the best experiences ever but chances are you've already experienced it okay okay
Starting point is 00:57:54 uh Banderer Asen says Mirz Edge Catalyst for the bad sequel Convo I don't think it was that bad I didn't jump into the second one I remember the first one very well it just didn't hit the mark and it definitely was like you know, the
Starting point is 00:58:09 how loud it seemed the demand for that game was clearly wasn't real. But I mean, I enjoyed both games a lot. I don't think catalyst holds a candle to the first one, but like I also wouldn't call it bad. Someone said earlier, oh, I'm losing it.
Starting point is 00:58:24 Oh yeah, someone said sports story as a follow up to golf story. Yes. Oh, yeah. That was unfortunate. Love story. Remember when they snuck in a secret room that like talked about like how bad the
Starting point is 00:58:35 development was for that game. Yeah, dude. So weird. Insane. You guys are weird sometimes. I love that for them though. Yeah. Me too. What else do you want to take me, Mike? That's it, Tim. It's really just like now I open up my heart to something new, right?
Starting point is 00:58:53 I get excited for the second half of the year. I've already gone down. I have so many games I'm excited for. Tactics with Star Wars and Fire Emblem. Then I get excited for Grand Theft Auto because I'm a GTA kid, right? We got BlizCon and what they're. said in that email was Blizzard's best year, right, or like one of their best
Starting point is 00:59:10 years, and outperforming for Xbox. And it's like, the future of Blizzard is always exciting to me. I'll always be an RTS guy, so it's like, I want StarCraft or Warcraft to return the idea of a third person StarCraft game. I'm into that, right? I think that's awesome, especially that world that hasn't
Starting point is 00:59:26 been explored in the past, what, decade in a long time since StarCraft too. It's like, let's get StarCraft back in here. They have the big three dialed in, and we've seen a lot of games. companies of like, you just pick the three you're good at, don't deviate, you know. And so that team should deviate, though, and try other things because they're very talented and have some awesome worlds to work with.
Starting point is 00:59:47 Control. Will I like Control, too? I don't know. I love Control 1, though. So I should like that. That's a layup. Oh, I got to play Bloodborn by myself. I've played every soul's game multiplayer.
Starting point is 01:00:00 Got my boy, sad boy, Sean and Andy, of course. And so I've gone through the whole run of every from Soft title from D. Demon Souls to essentially Bloodborne now, completed an Eldon Ring, but I need to do Blood Born again all by myself, no help. Yeah. We'll do that. That's a little. You bringing up GTA.
Starting point is 01:00:17 Got me thinking a little bit. Did you watch the Jason Schreier video? No, not the latest one. No. God, he's so good. Hey, shout out to Jason Trout. Those are must watch. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:00:26 Those are really good. He's killing it. You know what? Real quick, I want to give another shout out to a YouTube channel. Because, yeah, Jason Schreier's been killing it. on the game side of things of putting out so many videos that are like not too long. So they're just like great listens. They're the perfect amounts.
Starting point is 01:00:42 He has all the knowledge. He has like a little script in front of him that he's following. But like he's hitting all the points. He's going a little bit deeper. One take shry. And it's one take. I love it. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:00:51 And honestly, it's just such a good commute listen for me. Like this is just my, every day I put it on and it's so so fascinating. Obviously he has so much insight and is like such an expert in a lot of this. But like he also just has very measured takes. Yeah, you know. Yeah. There's something I learned in the last week. His handle on substack is Shry guy.
Starting point is 01:01:15 Is it really? Yeah. I wonder if it predates Nick or not. I really don't know. We need to know. When did he create that account? We need to know. So, but in a similar vein to how much Shriar's been killing it, it's a bit different here.
Starting point is 01:01:31 But there's this dude, I want to give a shout to that I've shot out before. his name is C-O-Jondro C-O-Y and the last name J-A-N-D-R-E-A-U. He is a super, super-comic nerd and has such great takes on superheroes and the movies, the comics, everything, and he recently has started putting out actual content on YouTube. Before he was a bit more of like he'd make an appearance here on this podcast, that podcaster. He hosts, or at least. hosted, probably still hosts, one of the DC, like official shows. But every time I've seen him pop up on other channels, I'm like, dude, this guy, this guy's
Starting point is 01:02:14 rad. And the last couple of weeks, he's been putting out a lot of uploads that are very well thought out. It reminds me a lot of the Jason Stryor stuff, but for superhero stuff. And there was, you know, like the rise of new rock stars, I would say, really came from, or at least the modern iteration of them, came from that moment around Wanda Vision where everyone was week to week all watching this thing and all so excited about it. I think right now he's at this perfect time
Starting point is 01:02:41 of Spider-Man brand-new-day leading into the casting of the new X-Men and Adventures Doom's Day and all that. But the thing about him that I think is so cool and it's different than any other creator is he has an encyclopedic knowledge of comic books. He owns something like 99% of every Spider-Man
Starting point is 01:03:01 or X-Men comic ever. That's cool. Ever. He literally off the top of his head can tell you the handful, literal handful of issues he's missing from the collection. Like, and more than that, he reads them all. He reads all of them. Every single, he has read every single X-Men and Spider-Man comic ever.
Starting point is 01:03:21 And it's not just like me where I'm like, oh, I read a bunch of shit, but like, I don't fucking remember anything. He remembers all of it. He remembers the issue number, the artist, the writer, like all of it, man. It's so damn impressive. Listen to Koy. He's awesome. And also he just has really good concepts and ideas of how things could work.
Starting point is 01:03:39 Anyway, big fan, check it out. And also, Jason Trier's great. You already knew that, though. That was a tangent. I don't even remember. That's all right. Well, one final one before we end the show, Tim. Because we are celebrating something.
Starting point is 01:03:52 It's an anniversary, Tim. 15 years of Elder Scrolls Skyrim. Yes. 11, 11, 11. A date I'll never forget. a moment that I loved. A game that I go back to, play the first seven hours and never play again.
Starting point is 01:04:09 This month I get to complete it with my best friend, Roger Pekorney. We're playing Skyrim together, and we're beating the whole game on a marathon. First people ever. First people to ever beat the game. Talk about an awesome experience. Skyrim is up there, and I'm super excited to go back and fully beat it with Roger.
Starting point is 01:04:26 This is going to be an awesome experience. Yeah. So pumped up about it. I can't wait for you guys. And I want to see if you actually beat it. On that faith, I don't think it can be done. It'll be super cool because, yeah, this is one of those where it's like Mike and Roger, the community, we're going to do it all.
Starting point is 01:04:41 And it's like, yeah, doing every side quest, doing every Champions Guild, you know, mission, joining the Majes Guild, joining the Thiefs Guild, like, I'm all in on this. I've always loved Bethesda Games. And so the idea of like doing it all with Roger and this Skyrim Together mod, I'm pumped up about it. Yeah. on Zachary Perez says do we figure out the conflict with GTA referring to the fact that the GTA Netflix thing's premiering
Starting point is 01:05:05 the day of the Skyrim yes we're going to be changing the day to the Skyrim thing I don't know if we've officially locked it or if you're ready to talk about all that but they're working on it they'll figure it out we're doing we're going to give you a fun promo but that reminds me of why I brought up Jason Schreier and then coy and got distracted GTA the GTA video that Jason did had a lot of info from his interview with
Starting point is 01:05:26 Strauss Zelnick, who's the head of 2K, take 2, all that stuff. And something that was really interesting. Last week, we of course were theorizing, like, what is this going to be? Are we seeing gameplay? Is it going to be more of like a walkthrough? Is it going to be sub 10 minutes,
Starting point is 01:05:40 more than 10 minutes, like whatever? And more information came out from this Jason thing. The way that Strauss is talking about it is like, it's a Netflix show. Like, it's going to be like an episode of a show on Netflix. So I'm like, is this thing going to be like 40 minutes? Or is this going to be like substantial? And it gets me excited because like I love the idea of this,
Starting point is 01:06:02 not just being a trailer, not just being a like 10 minute in the world. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But treating it more like, uh, w, w, we're like, uh, reality, uh, documentary type thing of the making of the game, but more so not just behind the scenes making, but like using it as a more in-depth promotional piece. Kind of like we see the Xbox game showcase follow up thing. like after during SGF where they do the deep diving to Starfield
Starting point is 01:06:30 or deep dive into College Duty or what was this year's good one for Outer Worlds. Oh, Gears E Day was. The Gears E Day, yeah. If they can do something like that, but with Netflix level production value and like serve that to a mainstream audience, I think that's really interesting. Great opportunity with a big game too.
Starting point is 01:06:46 Big IP, obviously. Super well-known studio. Like this is one of those, right? We talk about MJ and the Last Dance and how special that doc was. Exactly. Right? It's like you only have so many of those. with certain people that you can do that with.
Starting point is 01:06:59 And when you turn to the video game industry, it's like with Grand Theft Auto, that is something you could do something like that with, right? We think of LeBron James' career and that's actually coming to it. And it's like, someone's clearly had a camera on LeBron since he was 18 years old, right? It's like, what is that going to look like? Same thing here. It's been 10 years.
Starting point is 01:07:16 They've definitely got a lot of footage to talk about, or, you know, footage to show and things to talk about. It will be cool if that, I didn't know that was what it was going to be like. I mean, I was expecting, I was expecting 10, to 22 minutes, here's the deep dive of the in the world of Grand Theft Auto. But if you give me 22 minutes to 44 minutes of an ID at Xbox developer direct,
Starting point is 01:07:37 a end of this showcase, direct with people talking, Strauss on there, and like doing everything, I'm all in. Yeah, I'm already, I've been all in there. I know, of course, of course, man. I'm just, I'm very interested in this marketing beats. Sky writes in saying Jack 2 is a terrible sequel. It's a precursor legacy, no matter how much I love the game.
Starting point is 01:07:54 It was such a weird turn. we were just doing weird shit back then I don't know why we were we were trend chasing the NES era had like the weird sequels that like took such a left turn with Mario Zelda and Castlevania and then the third one like returns to form and then same thing on PS2 where it's just like we just got so dark and gritty man
Starting point is 01:08:13 and we were just doing shit we were just throwing shit at the wall everybody saw what GTA was doing they're like we need to make our own GTA we can do that too we need an open world action RPG yeah God it was so bad Jack 2 is so bad never replayed that that game. That's it, everyone, for this episode of Gamescast. Thank you so much, Mike, for stepping up to the place.
Starting point is 01:08:31 Yeah, Tim, no problem. Thanks for a fun Monday together with you talking about games. You know, I always enjoy coming into the office and telling you what's my latest and greatest. So thanks for a little platform to talk about that for a nice fun games cast. Yeah. Hopefully people can leave some comments down below. What am I missing?
Starting point is 01:08:45 What's on there? You know, when we talk about kind of funny's top 100, if you got a top 10, top 25, this is like, hey, leave it in there so I can look at him and go, never played dad, I'll play that, you know, that's what I've been doing. Yeah. So stay tuned for Mike learning about all the greatest games of all time. Playing them, baby. And stay tuned here because we have a lot of fun stuff coming up
Starting point is 01:09:05 today. I think we have a game showdown that's about to go on. With a very special guest, Ray Narvarez Jr. should be on this. Cool, very cool. Get ready for a fun guest on that. And then after that, Mike and Nick return to the world have been shrouded. And Nick has been playing this after hours. Yes, he by himself. So he's going to show off all of his hard work.
Starting point is 01:09:22 Gotta love it. Which I'm excited for. Bye, all.
