What's up everybody?
Welcome to the Kind of Funny Games cast for Monday, July 1st, 2024.
I'm one of your host, Greg Miller,
alongside the Master of Hypes, No Bike, Mike.
Greg, here's the deal.
I don't want to derail the show already, but I have to.
Okay, here I am listening to you on a lovely Monday, July 1st,
the day after Tim's fantastic wedding weekend,
and I get no respect put on my name for me.
Okay, you go,
the Eldon Ring excitement,
Gibroni, the man who loves
Eldon Ring, Andy Cortez and Barrett Courtney,
I'm the Soulsborn King in this office.
I heard of say the same thing.
Shadows died twice.
Barrett hasn't done that.
Okay.
I beat Dark Souls 2.
Have you planned to Eldon Ring?
I beat Dark Souls 2.
Let the man have the floor.
I beat Dark Souls 2.
Andy Cortez hasn't done that.
Beat Dark Souls 1.
Blessing out of the O.E.A. Jr. hasn't done that.
Okay.
In 2019,
game was released about the wolf protecting the air to the throne and you don't even know about
that and you put no respect on my name on my lineage and i'm just secure about it i'm uptight about it right
now who's the first one here to be secure i just want to give me one less that gregg doesn't put
any respect on that game and i look back at the games that probably released in 2019 and i bet you he would
be like oh controls my favorite game or death stranding where i walk around and fall down in a river like
Come on, Greg.
Put some respect on my name and Secrose name.
That's all I have to say.
I don't know what the fuck you're talking about him.
We talked about the Elvin Ring movie.
It was me and loose and I said,
Barrett, you're an Elder Ring super fan.
I didn't bring in any of this.
Where's my name?
Why is my name?
Because we,
where's my name?
You were on the show.
Where's my name?
What are you going to do?
No, whenever you bring up a sold born game.
You have to.
In this office, Mike's name comes first.
It's political.
And I didn't want to start this show like that.
I wanted to be happy.
I wanted to have some good Monday vibes.
But you did.
this you fuck this you fuck this up Greg when did you beat secure wow and you never talk about it
i mean i wouldn't say that he beat it i'd say that he destroyed oh my god did i two time the guardian
apes break okay did i didn't actually it was a guinea chiro that you two tied but
guardian ape wasn't come my guardian ape was four time okay did i fight the owl my father
Andy don't uh the tape is there okay i believe you
took six hours to beat the demon of hatred how many times did it take me andy oh you're right okay where are
you where are you i think up the phone you're not dialed in like i am where are you ready
restart the show i didn't even want this i didn't want to do it this is your fault gregg for doing
i'm like this energy you put us here control i think was my game of the year that yeah i knew it would be
yeah yeah unbelievable stupid idiot what's up everybody welcome to the kind of funny games
for monday july first twenty twenty four i'm one of your host gregg miller a long
side, the master of the souls born games, the man who most recently beat Sekiro, Shadows
died twice, the man who two-time, two-time, two-time, who wasn't Andy? I already forgot the monkey.
Genichiro.
Not guy, man named Garicio. It's no Mike.
Good morning, Greg Miller. Happy Monday. It's great to see your smile and face. I already missed
you, Andy, bless, and Baird after an awesome wedding weekend. I wish we could spend all weekend
together but I'm happy to be back at work because I love it here I fucking hate work from
home like I want to be there I want to feel your energy yeah what I mean would it have been I mean I
I mean I understand Tim did something Herculean amazing wedding a wedding will never see the likes of again
but like couldn't he have just like stayed there on Sunday and rebuilt the studio then
you know what I mean did Kevin really have to get home to his pregnant wife like couldn't they
just like they probably shouldn't even left Saturday night they probably should say goodbye
everybody closed it out and then put it all back together so we can come in and do
this show. Because it's upsetting. It's insulting.
For someone who is as
accomplished as you are in the soulsborn
genre, to have to do this back from home.
Because I look on your back shelf at all
the soulsborn swag
you have. You got a
Well, as you know, Andy won't let me
Chief's helmet there. Yeah, Andy won't
let me keep the 18 inches
of mesmer. And I'm
a little disappointed in him on that one. He won't let me
keep it. But I'll take it from him. I'll take it from.
Of course, the man
who won't let him take home 18 inches.
best friend. Of course, he's the Hispanic heartthrob. He is Latino heat, Texas heat,
trash or trash, but I don't want, I already, you know how I did. I got again, first off,
if you miss games daily, I'm playing under a protest. Oh, work from home garbage, so I'm going to
do my worst performance of all time. Okay. You're doing a Harrison Ford and Blade Runner. Like,
I don't, I'm going to act badly because I don't like this voice over. Exactly. Latino he.
Clicking ads. Ribbing and shreds. Globetrotting headshot and headshot. Wait, but
Why is it?
He's Latino.
Oh, Hispanic,
though, Texas treat.
That's what I did wrong.
That's where it was.
I jumped in Latino, he.
Right from the grip, yeah.
Yeah, all right.
Anyways, it's Andy, everybody.
Hey, everybody.
How you doing, Andy?
Great.
I had a great time.
Beat the DLC.
Veldon Ring for the second time this weekend.
I had an awesome time, you know.
I'm sure no one's salty about that at all.
So, you know, I didn't want to start the money out of this.
Now Andy's just rubbing it in me.
What happened here?
Your best friend's doing it.
We start on Friday.
We have an incredible marathon stream.
We play a full week of Eldon Ring DLC together.
I mean, we're playing the normal DLC, a normal way of multiplayer.
So you have to beat everything twice.
You got to share your world.
It's just a nightmare, right?
Sure.
We go all the way through it.
We get to the final boss.
Me and Andy have one full night of like five hours getting wild and wacky.
We can't do it.
Then we go night number two, and we get to the end.
And when you're supposed to put down your controller with your best friend and say,
hey, we'll come back to this later.
What does he do to me, Greg?
Oh, let me just see if I could play it by myself with my mimic tier.
Then all of a sudden, see, unlike him, Greg,
where if I got that close with anyone else,
if I got that boss down to 5% health, I would die
because I'm not going to beat the game without my best friend,
my co-op partner.
But you know what he does?
You know what he does?
No, Andy Cortez, oh, I think I'm going to beat this boss
and him and his mimic tier beat the boss without me.
Mike, do you need me to start the show again?
I don't want to, why am I here right now?
y'all for the twin stream what am i doing man and that seems like a harsh thing are you going to go
back and beat it with him on his account course yeah the go we need to get stees the source to beat
this boss but it was just such a great reaction i thought me being like you know you know let me just
try it with a mimic tier we had mike minotty from giant bomb try to help us out and you know we got
really really close a couple times i was like let me just see what's up my mimic tier and
suddenly was like i i think i might do this and we me and the boss boom we traded i die but it says
boom god slain and mike goes fucking i fucking hate you bro he's like i'm out see you later everybody
goodbye i love you but i fucking hate you man he's so mad he just cut everything off it was a great
moment it was the highlight of the weekend honestly running out the quartet he's forms 30 under 30
aka the new york game awards nominated a k a leftover poppy blessing at i oh yay junior
morning, Greg. Good morning, Bless. And see, as you see Andy and Mike tear each other apart here,
this is what I respect about you. Five o'clock rolls around. You walk out of that office. You don't
talk to anybody. Since I'm going around the table. It doesn't even need to be five o'clock.
Let me give it to Bless really quick. Three 30. It's. I just want to give a shout out to Bless for
being absolutely incredible. We were getting down on the dance floor and Blessing absolutely brought it.
We circled everybody up. We were dancing. And then I told him, I said, all right, bless,
Now you've got to bring everybody together and it got us all together.
We were bouncing, dancing.
It was a great time.
So I love Bless.
Not you, Andy or you Greg right now.
Fuck you.
I saw the video, though.
And I don't like how I looked in that video.
I'll be honest.
At least Willem's caught the video of me doing some breakdancing on the floor.
And it always feels cooler than it looks.
Like watching it back.
I'm like, man, I'm old.
I thought it was pretty sick.
I turned 30 scene.
I turn 30 tomorrow.
I feel it.
This is one of those things that back and, you know,
you're in the land of the blind.
You know what I mean?
So it's just like, you're out there doing something.
Because as soon as this started, me and all the other olds just went to the sidewalk outside and drank.
We just sat out there and drank and talked.
We knew what happened.
We knew what happened.
You knew what?
You had to go out.
What I want to do is give a shout out to, I think, of our team, the two outfits that I appreciated the most.
And that was, of course, Andy Cortez and Blessing Eddie O.
You guys look fire at this wedding.
I loved everything I saw.
Thank you.
Appreciate you.
Can we talk about what Mike wore?
Yeah, can we talk about my incredible outfit?
The fact that he had a black Superman shirt he always wears underneath it,
like he was ready to go to bed at any second.
Can we not talk about my great outfit?
Like, Mike was barely smart casual.
Mike showed up like it was like...
Mike dressed like he was forced to go to church with his parents.
Mike looks like he was at his friend's house sleeping over and then forced to go to church.
He's had to wear like the big brother's outfit or whatever.
He's going to his younger cousin's communion.
We're going to talk about that this week on the kind of funny podcast.
Wednesday in the afternoon will be all the stories for our kind of funny members.
Of course, later on Thursday, I believe for everybody, but maybe Friday.

A nine is, an eight is, and so on.

I saw Andy and Bless them the thumbnail for this one.
That's exciting.

No, that's less exciting.
He's got to go train in the soul's dungeon.
He's kind of trying to beat his boss, yeah.
How long into the stream do he switch to Valerent?
He's on one.
He's on one.
Two more to get rings plus.
The Valorin Streets need us, man.
If you're a kind of funny member, of course,
you'll be able to get your Greg away momentarily.
I'm recording it after this.
But more importantly, we have revealed the kind of funny premium item for July.
Of course, you know, we do a physical.
item each and every month on patreon.com slash kind of funny at the above and beyond level of
premium tier. And you can see it is in fact a magnet design by the one, the only Josh Strickland.
It looks like a friendship necklace where he split it in half, one side snow bike,
one side's Andy Cortez. If that wasn't enough, Joey Noel has gone through and made a bunch
of kind of funny friendship bracelets, you will get both of those as your premium collector
item this month. Very exciting. Mike, how does it feel to see your
best friend and you immortalized as a magnet.
Yeah, I truly love it.
I want everyone to know if you get a hold of this, it is really,
really awesome. I will say though, on a personal note, we are
two separated halves right now because Andy betrayed me. So until we beat
this, I'm not going to push the magnet together. Wow. Wow, Andy.
But you know, on my fridge right now, those two pieces of the heart
separated. Not even on my fridge.
Yeah, but it's on your computer so you know you got love for me. It's going to hurt the
hard drive be careful uh thanks for making our dreams reality patreon producers carl jacobs
and delaney twining today we're brought to you by invidia g force in better help but we'll tell you
about that later for now let's start with topic of the show
ladies and gentlemen i'm sure you remember when we moved kind of funny gamescast to a daily
format we went and redid the review scale to try to be uh more modern representative of how we talk
about video games on kind of funny how we talk about everything on kind of funny and so on and so
forth in that episode where we settled on a one through 10 20 point scale so you can use point fives
we said you know what would be cool is to do an episode of the games cast where we went through one
through 10 and we each gave examples of what we think a 10 is what we think a nine is etc etc
etc and we all like that that's a great idea we'll pencil that in the next opening we had and the
next opening was now which is like three months later because we had sgf we had a million
reviews we had previews we've had a vowed devs in to talk to us and we've we've been killing it with
the daily games cast so here we are in what i like to call the open discussion format all right
mike's fired up as you've seen he's restarted the show a couple of times he's angry he's a but it's
also he's one of those like sweaty players now he's a soul's player that's what it is he is the
souls player i should say actually uh we're gonna go through and do this we thought we would start
with the good stuff first so start with what we think a 10 is and go down and go through that
So again, if you've never heard the kind of funny review,
scale it goes like this, 10 is a masterpiece,
nine is amazing, eight is great, seven is good, six is okay,
five is mediocre, four is meh, three is bad, two is awful,
and one is Ghalm.
Mike, since this is your show,
you're coming off this big win with Securo,
you know what I mean?
You're doing the thing that I love kind of funny doing,
and that's championing games that have been,
overlooked that aren't loved enough that people don't know about you bringing out these indie kind
of things right for you why don't you kick this off tell me what a 10 is what is a masterpiece
to the master of souls snow bike mike you know i wrote two games down that i thought were you know
know 10 out of 10s a masterpiece and i'm actually going to put in the third and i'm going to champ
that one you know what it is gregg securo shadows died twice okay because to me that is a masterpiece
That is a game that will stick with me.
And when I think about 10 out of 10s, I think about games that will change the way I look at
video games, change that moment inside me going, wow, this is going to be something that I will
always remember.
I'll always look back on and go, man, that was a special time that I enjoyed.
And so Sekaro Shadows Die Twice is a 10 out of 10 video game for me because what it is
is a change up of the format.
It changed up what I thought was a Soulsborn game.
And it put me in something new, something indifferent, an awesome.
incredible setting in feudal japan of course with the wolf and some family members i don't want to
spoil things but man i wish i could tell you the whole story of that because greg andy bless i know
you know barry you don't know yet but you'll learn okay i'm just taking that now see gregg got me
i don't know if you could tell me the full story i'll tell you the whole story about how incredible
what's going on with that one but truly honestly the child is the child my child it had
Andy don't start
okay
we have to go west
okay just know that
that's your only
we have to go less
and so it's the
deflection system
into the paris
into how souls born
bosses in my mind
from dark souls
one through three
blood born and onward
when we look at these games
now that I've recently played it
has changed up that format
and the idea of
having that second death
at a chance to come back
and do it all over again
and to replay the moments
was really something
and awesome and special and I loved every moment of Sekira.
I thought that was a masterpiece in the Soulsborn genre that I got to play and
experienced.
So it's still on my mind.
It's fresh.
I loved everything about it.
And that would be my 10 out of 10 to start us off.
The one question slash comment I have is that obviously we put out these adjectives.
We do this whole thing.
We agreed as a team.
One of the things we said that I wouldn't hold anybody too, but I think we've made
clear of like a 10 out of 10 to us isn't perfect.
No game's perfect.
There's all this stuff.
Do you think Securo Shadows Die Twice gets close to being perfect?
Movement is stellar.
Combat is phenomenal.
The idea of second phases is cool.
I liked the map layout and the level design.
I loved the locations.
It took me.
I really enjoyed the idea that I could come back to life and have a second chance.
I loved when the bosses had second phases.
I loved whenever a boss had the red ring and I could, you know, perfect parry.
them into killing them and getting that fatal blow and then earning back the chance to resurrect
myself again for a possible third try is pretty awesome yeah I mean this is as close to perfect
of a video game for me as I would like right I think there's a couple others that I have on my list
but sure to me yeah this is a 10 out of 10 masterpiece perfection is right the combat the
movement the feel of the game the way you feel after learning the mechanics getting beat down
banging your head against the wall because you can't get it done into overcoming that obstacle
and challenge, that is perfection to me. And that is what Seckerbrose Shadows died twice.
I got two super chats for you on this one. Ryan Povalla Higgins says, I only see one 10 on this
podcast, Snowback Mike. Thanks, homie. You know, I didn't want to start the Monday off like this.
And you know what, Greg, it's not because of you. It's not because of anyone.
Because we're working from home. No, I feed off all the own. I don't like being trapped in this box.
I hate me.
I got to stop putting you in a box, Mike.
I'd stay here forever if I could.
Same, honestly.
The only one that's the word.
I'm with you.
Then Danny says,
Securo is perfect.
I played it last year,
and it changed my perception of gaming
as well as my skills.
So there you go.
A little endorsement for you,
Snowmike Mike on your pick.
Thank you.
Blessing, what's your example?
Oh,
oh, we're doing it.
I like that.
Great pick.
Oh, thank you.
Thank you.
I'm excited for us to boo each other.
the energy going let's not agree more blessing what's your masterpiece pick so similar to mike for each
of these i wrote down a few for 10 i legitimately wrote down like five different games um i think the
conversation as far as like what the numbers mean it gets interesting right because we talk about like
the perfect thing versus masterpiece and as i was riding each of these down i realized that i don't use the
adjectives that we put like put on these things like in my head i have my own idea of what the numbers are
and I realized that I just ultimately go by that, right?
So, like, when I think of a 10 out of 10, I think about, like, what I saw or what I felt
a 10 out of 10 was when I would grow up reading IGN reviews and I'll see a 10 out of 10.
For me, it is like, oh, that's one of the greatest video games ever made, right?
And, like, the easy word to put to it would be masterpiece, right?
But, like, the games that have written down here are Zoliteers of the Kingdom, Eldon Ring,
Mario 64, Undertale, and Inside.
And I think all these are 10 out of tens for different reasons for me, right?
Like, for me, it is how much do these games push the industry forward?
How much do these games feel like they reinvent what that particular genre can be?
Like when I talk about Zelda Tiers, the Caneyer, Eldon Ring, right?
Like, those games are for me the ultimate open world games.
They understand exactly, like, how to create a open world that to some extent feels,
I know perfect is like a dangerous word to use, but I guess masterful.
Mario 64, you know, another one being like a,
oh this is what we can do with 3d like this is how you design a game around this this is how you
create like a wondrous world with secrets and all that and like you know if you want to talk about
perfect like inside would be my example of a perfect video game where everything feels so
tailor made and there is an animation for every single action you take in that video game
but yeah like those are the five games that immediately come to mind for me if you could only pick
one to push it forward to say this is when blessing at aioia is dead and gone
4,000 years for now.
You're going to live a long time.
What do you want chiseled in the rock
as your 10, your masterpiece?
I would say Zelda Tears the Kingdom.
Yeah.
I mean, at this point,
that in Breath of the Wild stand
is like my favorite games of all time.
And like for me, it is like the,
it is,
during Tim's wedding,
there was that interview segment
and like people were asking like,
you know, what were we used to describe Tim?
And I think Kevin and like,
I think one other person mentioned indulgent.
Yeah.
And Zelda Tears the Kingdom,
I feel like is indulgent as a video game where it is you do this game does so many fucking things
and it does them on like such an incredible level as far as puzzle design artistic design story
open world like um like open like how it goes about making its open world map right how it goes about
like giving you these things to collect and like giving you these slices of adventures that feel
like your own giving you these multiple levels to explain there's so much giving you the tools to create
whatever you want.
Like, Zoliteers of the kingdom is a,
is a 10 out of 10 amongst 10 out of 10 games.
You know, like for me, it is one of the greatest ever made.
Well said.
Andy Cortez, what's your masterpiece?
Great answer.
Clap it up.
That's a good one.
That's a good one.
Great answer.
Mine is one that I just kind of keep on going back to.
I think Blessing nailed it with all of his choices.
And inside is one that I kind of always go back to and think in top 10,
or you know an absolute 10 out of 10 my selection is one that whenever it pops up on the spotify
soundtrack i just go god damn that's a 10 out of 10 and that is celeste i don't think a game
hits on more of the like all of the aspects of what make it a video game i don't know if
there's anything in celeste that falls short of what they are going for i think the message
behind it, beautiful, awesome storytelling.
You know, I love its pixel 8-bit art style movement, platforming.
It's just like what they went for was a 10 out of 10 thing and they like they achieved it.
That's just one of the one of the best experiences you could have, especially with their
accessibility settings as well in case people aren't super good at difficult games.
I think Celeste is just one that I always go.
back to and go, God, what a masterpiece Celeste is. Yeah, 100%. I think there's many reasons to
adore Celeste. And you've listed them all. The one that I would always call out for me that I thought was so
impressive was the accessibility stuff, where this was a game that was dropping when difficulty was such
a conversation, you know, piggybacking off the Souls games and not being able to really change the
difficulty of those games. And to see them do this one where it's like, hey, we think you should play it
this way. But if you want to enjoy it and can't do that, if that was going to be,
something that would put you off, go do it this way.
And even for me, as somebody who's not the platforming guy,
I loved Celeste so much because of the way they broke down the challenges,
where it really was like, you were on this screen.
Can you get past this screen?
That was like that bite size of a challenge of getting to the next one felt like,
okay, I can put it down.
I could stop.
Or if I was getting close, I knew it was,
I wasn't going to get five minutes in dying.
I have to come back and redo the whole thing, right?
Like they broke up the challenge in a way.
I thought anybody could really appreciate it in play,
especially for a story that was so important.
Beautiful story.
Yeah, like you got me crying at these blocky figures
that you can't even see like what the hell there,
where their anatomy is, you know?
It's just, it's incredible.
It's so good.
Yeah, for me as a two is a two-de platformer guy or even just as a platformer person, right?
Like there's nothing else like Celeste.
When you talk about one, how good and how precise and tight the platforming is,
you know, Greg, you mentioned the one screen at a time and like each screen is its own puzzle
and being able to kind of restart on a dime if you fall or die or whatever, immediate
respawn, and it keeps you engaged in that way, layered on top with just an amazing story
that dives into mental health, dives into depression, anxiety, and all that stuff,
and does it in such an incredible way that, like, you know, I think feeds into the gameplay well,
right? Like, it is such a good marriage of, you know, story concept and how that feeds into
you are climbing a mountain as Madeline, right? You're getting over this thing. Like, it is a powerful
game and design, but then yeah, when you want to talk about even just the art of the visuals of it and how good the pixel art design is and then the music of it and how like, you know, I rep Celeste to this day by like listening to it on, I listen to the songs on Spotify. Like Celeste, for me, it's almost like when I talk about Sonic the Hedgehog and how I'm like, you know, Sonic is not even just about the video games. It's about like, it's about the lifestyle. That's what Sonic the hedgehog is. That is like, Celeste almost feels like a similar thing where I'm like, I'll listen to the soundtrack whenever and I'll get put in that same emotional place that I was when playing the game. Like it is,
It is transcended beyond just the gameplay experience.
Yeah, Lena Rain in that soundtrack is just absolutely insane.
And to piggyback off of Mike's answer for Securo,
the way I think that Sekiro kind of mastered what deflection sword fighting
can feel like in the video game,
and everybody's been chasing that high since,
I think Celeste mastered platforming.
Great answer, Andy.
Thank you.
before we get to this audience picks for 10 out of tens i'll do mine for me this is a chance to write a
wrong ladies and gentlemen all right i've been reviewing games a long time and there's one that's
haunted me all these years that when you want to talk about 10 out of 10 one that has
been there on the edge of my consciousness the entire time and that of course is metal gear
solid peace walker a game i gave a 9.5
at IGN.
And I read it every goddamn day.
I love this.
I didn't give it a 10 out of 10.
You know what I mean?
I think there was a lot wrapped up in that.
At the time period, it was very much like 10 out of 10 is a sacred.
It shouldn't even be used.
We never said that, but you felt you felt that, right?
And especially for, you know, being as not young as, oh, I guess I was pretty young,
reviewing it, right?
But a Peace Walker game I'm reviewing right in 2010.
Like it just felt like RPSP game.
Is that what I got that I was reviewing in 2010?
like I don't know what it was and I think you know you try to be critical in the review
and again no game is perfect and I think that's what stopped me from doing it right when you go back
to my IGN review and you read like me sum up I actually call that out I think in my verdict right
I'm like yeah I'm like yeah it's this it's that it's not perfect as the co-op is nearly mandatory in some
spots and I could have done with a better how to guide but this game is a masterpiece right like
I contradict myself right because of course we used masterful back in the day at IGN at this point for a 10 out of 10
And it's like, I'm trying to justify to myself why it's not a perfect game when, in fact, a masterpiece, a 10 out of 10 doesn't need to be perfect.
And I think this game, I think there's so many games that, you know, oh, I wish I could play it again for the first time.
I wish I could do that, blah, blah, blah.
I also think there's the, hey, they're re-releasing, whatever, just a digital version of a game on the, you know, the NES virtual console or something on PS classics, right?
And it's like, oh, I love that game and you jump and you play it for a little bit.
even Metal Gear Solid this time around number one, right, with the legacy collection.
I booted it up and put like four or five hours into it, enjoyed it, but like at some point
put it down and never thought about going back to it.
Peacewalker is that thing of when Blessing came on and was doing PSI Love You with me and we went
replayed Peace Walker.
Like, I rolled credits without even trying.
And it was that idea of like, am I going to commit right now to platinum it?
It was like still, it's clunky using the PlayStation 3.
I hope it's in Legacy Volume 2.
But whenever I get another shot at Peacewalker, I do expect to go through.
and probably not platinum it because we've seen Metal Gear games kill me on that before.
But go through and beat it again.
Like I just love that game.
And especially for the, I mean,
you're talking about a PSP game, right?
So it's hard to pull it over here and talk about it against like a god of war 2018 or whatever.
But it was so ingenious for the system.
It was such a full fledged video game in a time where,
oh, it's pretty good for a PSP game.
It's pretty good for a handheld game.
Like it really was Kojima saying,
what does a Metal Gear handheld look like in 2010?
What are we doing with that?
that, you know, playing with the comic book cutscenes, having them be so beautiful, but you can go
in and out of them, the bite-sized mission structure, pinging Wi-Fi to recruit soldiers to put in the
mother base. I mean, if you've never played Peacewalker, but you've played Middle Gear Solid 5,
you've played Peacewalker, because it is that idea of recruiting, building out your teams,
they research projects, etc, et cetera, et cetera, like, I had so much fun with that game on my PSP,
whether it was playing on the couch, playing at the review event, playing on a Muni or whatever,
like the train. Like, I love Peacewalker. And I have,
I really do regret that I didn't give it a 10.
So I'm happy to rectify that today.
Doesn't have dope, like scary enemies on the opposite side?
Who's some bad villains?
Give me the rundown.
Well, you're doing with the Chrysalis and the Pupa and all that jazz.
You're fighting big robots.
You're fighting metal gear.
But then you're building your own core.
And you can have your own metal gear that you send out and stuff.
But you got Dr. Strange love in there.
There's stuff going on, Mike.
Is there anything more than you do for like, when I think about how Nintendo did
like you write a fucking course basically up a vertical wall at one point?
all right i stop i love links awakening remake can you like what would you do for a peace walker
sort of hey here it is brand new console brand new look new engine oh i mean you put it in the
metal your solid five engine right like i feel like you have all that stuff already and you have the
setup too it would just be that again but even then i think now it would be quaint right where it would
be like oh okay like even when they did when they start when they we we we see walker was finally
able to be played on a tv right through the other legacy collection that's not the actual legacy
collection. It was like, oh, wow, these environments look pretty empty, right? Because it was a PSP
game. It was a handheld game. Like, if you could go through and give it the Delta treatment or
make it look like middle grade or solid five and give it those mechanics, like, you'd be off to
the races again. But again, I think one of the reasons it works so well is because it was meant to be a
portable game. You know what I mean? Like, I just reviewed Luigi's Mansion 2, right, on Gamescast
last week. And my criticism of it, right, is like how the levels are bite size and meant to be
replayed. So it kind of feels not jarring, but you're like, oh, this is a product of a time gone by.
where i think it would be the same thing here whereas middle gear solid five missions when you went
out of could be really big they could be short obviously but they could be really you know grandios
as well whereas i don't think peace walker really was that what would you give the special edition
psp out of 10 do you mean the big boss one uh the metal gear solid piece walker
psp it has its own special edition do you have it what would i get green the big boss pack
is that what you're saying what would i give the big boss pack right there with it's right there
Cammo Green.
Oh, he's got it.
You kidding me right there?
What would I give this guy?
That's a 10 out of 10 collection.
You kidding me.
You got the little thing in there.
You got all set to go.
Fucking Peace Walker, man.
Seal.
He got it, ladies and gentlemen.
I'll tell you what.
Ben's going to go off,
go to college off of that when I sell it on eBay.
I asked you, of course, to super chat throughout the show on YouTube.
com slash kind of funny games for the super chats.
Phil Schu writes in it says my own personal 10 out of 10.
and my favorite game of all time would have to be Kingdom Hearts 2.
Can't wait for you to get to it, Mike.
Can't wait.
Dorg 86 says Ninja Guidon for the OG Xbox, pure perfection.
Mike, you ever play that one as an Xbox?
No, no, never.
I remember that being so hard at the office.
You won't talk about like Souls games now,
but I remember when I think it was Eric Brutving
and David Klayman would come in and be like,
we've been on the same boss for four hours last night
and we can't beat him.
Um, and then I got two here, sorry.
Let's Shadles says, uh, my most recent 10 out of 10 is Lise of P.
The big scene at the end alone was one of the most hype moments I've ever experienced in a game.
Andy, is that a hype moment?
Oh, I mean, that what, when that kind of went viral and started, you know, going around the internet with people that weren't even aware of what Liza P was, but then they started to kind of get a glimpse as to what this IP is.
so hilarious. It's incredible.
It's one of those moments that like, if Tim was into
Soul's likes, he would not have shut up
shut up about that moment for months.
Yeah. I think I
was reviewing it and I think
I was like the first person, at least in like my circle
that had finished it. And I'll like
I couldn't believe my eyes and I was so
mad that I couldn't talk to anybody about it.
I was like, I need to break this down. This is fucking
insane. And then our
super chat to end this 10 out of 10
section is from Oriole who writes
in and says, my friend and I,
My wife and I, platinum, Untiled Goose game in one night.
She played it as seriously as a Metal Gear game
because it was so intriguing and fun,
despite only having two action buttons, grab slash honk,
an unforgettable 10 out of 10 experience.
An untitled goose game, showing anything can be a 10 out of 10, right?
Also, the dice game of the year that year.
Stick that in your pipe and smoke it.
Mike. Sorry, it wasn't whatever souls came out that year.
Clown.
Ladies and gentlemen, I digress.

And we're back with our topic of the show.
Let's jump into number nine.
That's a nine out of ten.
Amazing on the kind of funny scale.
So let's start with the amazing Andy Cortez.
I got a bunch listed down here.
Coward.
A lot of these have been my favorite games of the past five years or so.
I'll throw out a couple.
I'll throw out a hyperlight drifter.
Just one of those that I just love going back to.
I always hop back into it.
You would think that I had that as like a 10 out of 10
because I won't shut up about it.
But I do think that it, you know,
there's some aspects of it that I don't
that pull it from that masterpiece class, right?
And whenever we talk about masterpiece, it's like,
I pretty much all the Souls games that I've played so far,
I would have as 10 out of tens,
even though they have plenty of things that I can complain about and say those things aren't perfect,
but the greater hole, the great circle, Indiana Jones.
It all just like, you know, exceeds it past that 10 out of 10 thing rating for me.
But for a game like Hyperlight Drifter, I would also put it as a 9 out of 9,
goes to Susima control, it takes two, phenomenal video games, great experiences.
but the one I want to land on is Death's Door.
And Death's Door was such a fun video game for me
that hit on so many different, like, mechanics and aspects
that make a video game good.
And I really, really enjoyed the combat.
I enjoyed the world.
I love the story that it was telling.
And the soundtrack is also one of those other,
similar to the reason why I always get reminded of Celeste,
because it always pops up on my Spotify playlist, like Games and Chill.
Whenever the Death's Door soundtrack pops up, I just, you know, I'm just smiling.
You know, it's such a great experience.
Amazing story about the man, about just sticking it to the man, Greg, you know.
Yeah.
We're all just kind of on this work grind nonstop.
And I just really enjoyed the message it was telling.
And I love the world.
I love the characters.
I really enjoy the combat.
And then I got super into wanting to 100% it.
And I think it was like the first game I've ever 100%ed.
Because like Spider-Man 2 is my first PlayStation Platinum,
but Death Store was the first one that I,
because we were previewing it or we were reviewing it,
we had the codes early, finding out those mysteries,
finding out those puzzles.
Post game after beating the game,
just still wanting to dive into it.
Death Store to me is a phenomenal experience.
nine out of ten if you care about action games top down isometric uh action games with amazing
music and fun combat cool enemies worlds to explore and secrets death store is a must play for me
well said great job and you're amazing great job man yeah for me my nine out of ten my amazing is
hell divers too a game obviously that i adore and it played so much of and love so much you've
seen a stream around here and stuff and obviously such a crazy sequel to a game that took
nine from nine years before right that I loved so much for me with hell divers too again is any
yeah what I think's interesting when I sit here and I talk about why I don't think hell
divers two is a 10 out of 10 right I don't want to say difficulty because that's not it it's
some of the I guess imbalance in terms of every game is doing the same thing over and over again right
Like that's a gameplay loop.
We all know that.
We talk about it.
We know games can only be so much.
But it's the idea of hell divers where I still have so many levels to get in hell divers, right?
Like I'm not even, Gary just hit level 100 last week when he's on the show.
150 right now is the level cap.
It's that idea that I look at the 150 level cap and just go, oh, I'm never going to hit that.
Like the way experience points works, the way you're working with teams works.
It's that thing where it's like, this is a amazing game.
It does so much, so right.
But I look at that and I say to me, that would be a detriment to it where there's so much to do.
And rather than be inspired to go do it as I am in Peace Walker, where I wanted to go S-rank, where I wanted to go do all these different things, I wanted the, you know, S-tier teams across the board and I knew I could do it.
Helldivers is one of those things where it's like, man, that's awesome, but I don't want to do that same thing that much and have it become a grind that way and have it be a job, if that makes sense.
Like I'm always excited to play more helldivers.
I love when we go in there and do the hour, you know,
five hour long streams or whatever for special occasions.
We just did one in April for my birthday.
Like I adore hell divers,
but there is something to not the balancing of the gameplay
because obviously you have so many difficulties,
but the balancing of what you're doing in it where it's just like,
yeah, this isn't going to be a second job for me.
So it is, it's an amazing game,
but I'm stepping away from it in the way.
Thank you. Thank you, Andy.
Mike, what's yours?
Yeah, Greg, I got a couple of fun ones written down.
I also have one-on-one.
I want to shout out that I didn't have written down, which is Cuphead.
I think Cuphead is an amazing game.
I have Metal Gear Solid 5.
I think that is an amazing game.
It took me on an awesome adventure.
I also want to give shout out and some flowers to Hitman 3,
because I think Hitman and what they created in that universe with that game
and moving forward to kind of a, you know,
a live,
games as a service live game is really special.
But I want to shout out a game that could easily be attending some people's books,
but is an amazing experience.
Fortune Horizon 5 and what playground games has created over there.
That arcade racer, which has Sim-like elements,
but it's just all around a great time ripping through the Baja of Mexico
is really, really special.
I mean, talk about a game that gives you the bang for your buck
in a world where we don't really get these like,
hey, here's a full package of a video game right at launch.
That is what Forte Horizon 5 is.
I mean, a giant map within Mexico.
that has different biomes all around that you can go explore from a volcano all the way down
into the coastline really really special over what probably 700 to a thousand cars in the game
all different sorts of races from the Goliath all the way down to small street races you
could drift around turns and get points for that it was just a great time and I think
forts her rise in that whole series gets a lot of love but maybe not enough love it's a weird
one because it's a racing game, but it's also like the racing games that like the casual
audience can get into. And they've had great tie-ins from Hot Wheels to Lego and beyond which is like,
man, this is a really awesome and amazing experience. And so I want to make sure we give some love
to Fort Horizon 5 and what that game created because it is stellar from the animations,
from the cars and the decals to what you see when you go into the library of what Andy created,
what you created, Greg, and I can put it instantly on my car.
to, hey, we're going to give you that super ultra 4K, zoom into the car and see every detail on the paneling and the interior.
It's just one of those games.
You go, wow, what are we doing here off of a racing game?
But there's a love for that.
And I think there's something special to be said.
I mean, Chuck, they even put a battle royale in the game for me with the Forza Eliminator.
So, I mean, I couldn't ask for more.
I just, I guess the only thing I could have asked for was a little bit smoother launch of multiplayer at the beginning of it all.
but that's always tough with these games and servers and all that.
But when you got 12 people in a race and you did the coast-to-coast drive on the Goliath all the way across
was one of the coolest experiences I could ever ask for.
So give some love the Fort's Horizon.
That's a great thing.
We are just playing it today, me and Ben.
Ben is obsessed with forts of Horizon.
And you want to hear a cute thing, listen to a two-and-a-half-year-old,
say, forts of Horizon.
Loves it.
Very excited for me to reveal the Jurassic Park Jeep was in it today for him.
You know, he's been driving around in my Dolorian.
the yellow jeep.
Bless, you did a great job on Gamescast last week of switching cars for him.
I appreciate that quite a bit.
But yeah, me jumping in there.
I was a burnout Paradise fan.
Like I like and I'm not a racing game guy.
So I kind of missed that,
Forth to Horizon 5 was that again.
So jumping in there and how many signs I have destroyed left and all these other things,
I was like, damn, like,
this is actually a really cool racing game that I kind of slept on that.
I'm excited to learn more about it as Ben gets obsessed.
Yeah, if you would have told me that I would have been obsessed over a race,
racing game in my adult lifetime.
Because as a kid, when I didn't have a whole lot of things to play, you know, of course,
I played Madden back in the day and I was super into Metal Gear Solid.
But getting really into like Need for Speed underground when I was in like the Fast and
Furious days, it was like I was super into those racing games and then completely fell off
because it's like I found what my tastes are in gaming.
Yeah.
But when I played forts of Horizon 4 and started to kind of
get into that groove. I was like, oh, this is what I've, I think I've been wanting out of a car game.
You know, I wouldn't. You free for you guys. Yeah, kind of exist in this ecosystem for a while.
And then five really was the game that kind of just got me sucked in. And I was obsessed with five.
Yeah, today we ran into your ghost. Ben was driving around out there on the roads and ran into your
ghost. And you were like 96. I was like, God damn. Yeah, I played the hell out of five.
For me, it was Ports of Horizon 3 that, like, got me in.
And that's the thing, when we talk about Forts of Horizon 5 and where it stains on, like, the number stuff,
I think that is, like, the easiest argument you can make for a racing game being a 10 out of 10.
But it's almost like the, I think because we've had quite a few Forks of Horizons that have been that good,
it almost just doesn't feel like it, right?
Like, it feels like you're getting another one.
But, like, I think that game really is that special that, you know,
somebody was like, this is a 10 out of 10.
I'd be like, dude, for sure.
I mean, IGN gave it their game of the year, the year that it came out, which I think is a testament to how fucking good that game is.
Amazing.
Blessing.
What's your pick for a nine out of ten?
Amazing game.
Yeah.
So, like, again, I had a few listed here.
The nine out of ten, I think, is an interesting one because, like, I'm almost more excited
for the nine conversation than the ten conversation because, like, these are the games
that I feel like I can love on unabashedly without even having to worry about, like,
is this the greatest thing of all time?
Is this thing perfect?
Is this masterpiece?
It's like, no, but I love it with all my heart.
And, like, the games that I have written down here are Returnal, uh, Tech and Eight.
near automata and then final fantasy seven rebirth which i think is the one that i'll stick on for this
conversation because like i think that game is a fucking special video game that does so many things
correct and this is this is one where i think i am also fixing a sin of the past because i believe our
review i gave it a four out of five and i think that was one of those ones where i was like
i it's not perfect like it's not like you know it is a flawed video game and so i feel like i can't
give it a quote unquote, like, perfect score or a master, or like the highest score possible.
But now that we're on the 10 point scale, like, this is one of the reasons why I'm glad
we switched because I think this game is a 9 out of 10.
I think this game is as close as you can get to like that highest score without actually
like getting there because of a few key flaws.
But for the stuff that it does, right, I can't believe how good this cast of characters
is one of the best castes.
It's not maybe my favorite cast of characters in a video game.
The, like the different locations, the different areas, how good the game looks,
the fidelity of it.
the combat still holds up and it's so fun and I love the stuff that they added um the moments are so
special and yeah like I mean like the only thing only things really here for me that would bring it
from being a 10 out of time would be that like I think the open world can feel very bloated at times and then
also I didn't love the last few chapters and like you know certain characters that character things
that I think make it suffer as a standalone game where I think it was once the full trilogy is out
I'm sure a lot of my qualms are going to be fixed because like a lot of my beef has to do with just cloud
a character and shit.
But I think that does bring it back a bit as a standalone thing.
But even still, like, I think this game is very special.
And I think it is a prime example of, like,
well, you are, this is as good as it can get without being absolutely, like,
goat level.
Thank you, thank you.
Let us move on to an eight out of ten.
A great game.
I'll kick you off this time.
And I'll say Diablo four.
This is one I'm currently re-obsessed with.
This season of loot came out.
out at a time when I was busy with another review and then working on something else and
then obsessed with fall at 76 for a while and some Starfield. And so I've gotten back to it now
and legitimately can't put it down. And I would have told you before like Diablo's your great game.
And I think the season, you know, just enhances what I loved about it and gives you so much to do.
But again, why is this an eight and not a nine? Why is it not a 10? Why is it this? The other right,
like this is another one where I love playing this game. I love seeing the numbers go up. I love getting the better
loot. I love trashing it and doing all stuff. But again, the gameplay loop is the gameplay loop here.
I think that limits it in a way, right? Like, I don't have any connection to the story. Even when we
are playing the actual narrative, Jen and I, like, we weren't connected to it. I think so much
of the side missions and stuff is one note, you know, the joke we always have in the house
when we play because we just skip all the dialogue now, which, you know, Mike, I never do, but I do
hear when I'm picking up sidematchezers or whatever, right? It is like, I'm always like,
just to make Jen laugh, I go, oh, my beans, the demon. The demon.
stole my beans because it's always just the demons did whatever they ripped out somebody's heart
they're doing this go say and i'm just like oh the demons took my beans
whatever it's just what it's got to be for whatever the reason to go off and do it and that's great
and that's good but it is like it is that smorgas board of content that i sit there and i will be
playing it and i will have at night those moments by myself where i'm like i'm done like i've
i've had enough i've eaten enough cake right now where it's like i am just going i'm doing the
see i'm really into the season past this time around which the first time for all these seasons
this is season four the first time a season past has stuff i don't where i'm like ah shit i really do want
to get that level 80 armor there i think that would look really good on my uh wonder woman so it's
like i'm going for it and gearing for it but then it'll be the you know i go to the checklist of
what i need to do for this level of the battle pass and i'm like all right well i don't feel like doing
any more of that or i do it for so long that i'm like i just need to stop here i love it i think
it's beautiful. I think it's great. I think Diablo is a really fun game, but it is me smashing
X and doing that thing. And right now I'm in this weird thing where on this seasonal character,
there's World Tiers right that make it more difficult. I'm beating the shit out of World Tier
3, but I'm not to the point where I can do the Capstone dungeon to unlock World Tier 4.
So I can have somebody pull me through and do it, but then the world might be on balance. It's like,
I'm in a little thing like that where it's like, this seems of the game show. And I can have a
great time with it and love it, but I'm ready to step away. It's not like I'm trying to
to get to a completion goal as much as I do want a platinum Diablo.
And I feel like this is my easiest shot at getting a level 100 character and doing stuff like that.
I'm so happy with how Diablo 4 came out and resonated with fans.
After 10 years away, it's hard to believe that it came on and made such a splash.
I mean, I knew it would.
But yeah, it's special, right?
Cinematics are unbelievable by Blizzard.
We've seen that with World Warcraft and previous Diablo.
So it is fun to be back in that world and then really nail it, Greg.
And I'm glad that you are so deep in it because I love that.
Mike, what about you?
What's your 8 out of 10?
Yeah, there's some great out of tens here.
You know, I have Microsoft Flight Sim on my list.
I have Pickman 4, which stole my heart.
I have two here.
And I want to shine a light on one of them.
So I'm going to give some love to Halo Infinite.
I think Halo Infinite is a great game,
especially when we talk about launch of Halo Infinite.
There were some misses, though, with co-op and Forge not being there.
But that is a great game.
game, but my eight out of ten great game that I want to highlight is a game that will stick with me from this year, which is Belatro. I think Belachro is a great freaking video game. And I had so much fun. I think we're in the craze of these rogue lights, rogue lights, and the idea of sitting down and creating a table game in the casinos, which is just, um, poker. But now you're playing it with this weird rogue light elements of different modifiers from the jokes.
to the different hands that you could have and how that kind of affects your chips and your final
score really stuck with me and made me obsessed, right? I know Barrett will pop off on this one because
he's been really screaming it from the rooftops, but this is the game that he put on my radar and
I couldn't get enough of. I think the world couldn't get enough of this one. And it was so much fun
to play Balatro each and every night and try to get a better score, try to use different
jokers and decks, which how would it affect my score and what I would do and the ways I would
think of my hands from a flush to a straight to sometimes only going two of a kind, maybe going
three of a kind, maybe going for a full house. I think that's really fun and inventive on a cool
card game to do. So I got to give some love to Balatra.
That's a nine out of ten game right there. Oh!
You tripping. That's a nine. I like that. I like that. To me, that's a nine five. That's a nine
because it's it's one of those it's like almost the boring argument where i think the way it's
designed hold on wrong thing uh the way it's designed feels almost like so tuned and perfect
it reminds me of like games that have been around for generations and lifetimes that you're just like
oh yeah this is how this game works right yeah a lot are so fucking good i for me it is and it's
it's it's such like a hyperbolic statement but i like it's kind of similar to the the bearer thing
where i'm like i put this in the vein of like a solitaire of this is what car
are meant to do. Like whoever invented the 52 deck of cards, like this feels like the ultimate use of that.
They were on something here. Yeah, like I can't believe that like we got this far as far as we can do with the 52 deck. And like I this game should be should come installed in every computer. This game should be default. Like this game is the Tetris effect to poker. You know. Yeah. Special. Okay. Blessing. You're you're you're stepping up for to defend Balochra. What's your eight out of ten?
So the few I have written here are Tinykin, Cana Bridges Spirits, but the one that I'll stick on is Spider-Man 2.
Spider-Man 2 is like, I think the prototypical, like this is a great video game, right?
Like the combat's fun, the story's fun, the world looks good.
It is, brief is not the right word, but I guess like, I guess it's paste well, right, where you finish it,
and it is the kind of game that you can finish over the course of four days.
And for me, I am like a beat that game done with it.
I don't see myself going back and playing much more Spider-Man 2 now that I finished it.
Right.
Like I had a great time, but it's not something that I'll hold on a pedestal.
It's not something that I'm like trying to preach to the choir.
If you're a Spider-Man fan, oh, you got to fucking play this game.
Right.
And I'll say that for pretty much any eight out of 10 game that is franchise.
Hey, if you're a fan of the genre or if you're a fan of like this character or whatever,
you got to go check this thing out.
But for me, Spider-Man 2 is also a, oh, I've played so many better action games.
I've experienced a lot of better narratives.
I've experienced a lot of better open worlds.
Like, it is not, I guess it's far from like the perfect thing,
but it is still great in what it is.
Fair enough.
Yeah, that would be a nine for me.
But again, I think we're talking about what we personally rank things, right?
For me, I would describe it as an amazing game,
even though Spider-Man and Miles Morales had come before it, right,
and showing you what it was.
It is the gliding and the wing suit and the switching between characters
and the way they do things.
And I really like the story,
even though I know it gets maybe rushed towards the end
for a lot of different people and things,
but I respect you, bless me.
I love that.
I would probably agree with that as well,
except I don't know if there's a game that I agree
as a more eight out of 10 with some of the most,
like,
Godlike moment and experiences.
Like, yeah, this game has about a handful of them,
and they make you feel every spectrum of feelings.
And surrounding it is like a lot of really good.
good stuff, you know. Yeah, it's like if you're ranking eight out of tens, I feel like it would be on the very high end of. Yeah.
Blessing, where are you putting your eight pick?
You're, I just went. Oh, sorry, Andy. I'm looking at Andy and saying, Wes. Oh, sorry.
For my eight, I have a couple listed here. I've always mentioned how Jedi Fallen Order is a very great video game, even though it misses quite a bit in level design and progression.
pacing, I would say.
I had a great time with
Remnant from the Ashes last
year when I played through Remnant from the Ashes
for the first time, which is a third person
shooter or Souls-like, kind of like the first
game to, it feels like the first game
to be like, hey, we're trying to do what Souls
does but for third-person shooters.
But I'm going to land on a game that I
adored called Metal Hellsinger.
Metal Hellsinger is a
first person
well started off as a
metal rhythm, first
person shooter game. And since then, they've released a bunch of DLC where you can play a bunch of
different songs and a bunch of different genres. But it very much looks like Doom. If you're just
kind of like, if you took a screenshot it, it'd be like, oh, that's one of the newer Doom video games.
It's fantastic visuals, cool guns, you're in hell. Troy Baker is the voice of the little skull that you
got. And it's very devilish and very evil-looking, awesome monsters. But that,
That game was just like so addictive hopping back in to try to hit those leaderboards.
And the moments where a game can make you feel cool, this game makes you feel cool all of the time.
When you have the shotgun and you're trying to shoot enemies on the beat and where the breakdown's about to hit and then boom, you've hit that shotgun shot and it's just like a massive like metal breakdown.
It's awesome as hell.
It's a game that I recommend for anybody who loves first-person shooter games,
especially when you're playing through Doom, 2016 or Eternal,
and you're just kind of like vibing out to that metal music,
and I think Middle Hell Singer does a great job of translating that into a rhythm game.
Super, super fun time, great progression, cool weapons, an absolute blast.
I love that you were on that one in a way most people weren't.
That was one. I know you champion. Why can't I say champion today? Champion.
Monday.
Remember you're protesting.
Yeah, exactly. Great point. Great points.
To work from home clear. That's the problem.
But I remember even I think at SGF, right, you made a point to see it.
And I remember them remembering that and wanted to talk to you about that.
Yeah. I mean, the demo had come out and I had a great freaking time with it.
And it's still one of those that I look back on with, you know, it's such a great time to
to experience.
Visually, it's fun as hell.
The skill gap that there is,
if you just want to play through
and have a great time,
you can do that.
But I think, like,
when a game can,
also where you could find the fun
in trying to challenge yourself
and trying to beat those times
and trying to go for the no-hit run
with the score multipliers
and all that stuff,
it's just a really,
really damn good time.
As we move on to number seven,
a seven out of 10,
what's a good game?
I'll jump in.
and be fast about it. I put fall at 76 here, right? For most of the ones I did here, I wanted to do
something that isn't something I've just reviewed or whatever, but I still think 76 for me is such a
great example of a good game, right? Because what I said at the time, right, fall at 76 is often a
great time, but I don't think it's ever a great game. Fall 76 is another game I've sunk so many hours
into this year. I think my game clock's now over 90 and what that'd be 80 some plus hours in 2024.
Like I truly enjoy that game and really like my time with it and do everything else. But
again like all the seams of fall at 76 are still there and it is very much like it's good but
it's not great it's this is a fun quest line but it's not a it doesn't feel like a single player
fallout quest line you know i'm just shooting the shit out of everything which is fun but there's
better shooters out there everything it does you can look and find a better version of it just
does so much together that there's a lot of fun to be had there but for me that's what makes it a good
game a game i would say oh yeah it's good but not like you have to be playing this like you
played a lot with me, what would be your 7 out of 10 good game? Yeah, 7 out of 10s. It's fun because
that's where you get a lot of people that love these kind of games or like hold them near and dear
to their hearts and they're just good games. I want to give some love to Far Cry 6, which I think
Far Cry for me since three and onward have been something special, but I think they've gotten
off the path a couple of times and really had to rewrite it. And Far Cry 6 was them getting back on.
But what I want to pick is Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy. I think Marvel's are the Guardians
of the Galaxy is a perfect seven out of ten good game to me that was one where I think they really
nailed it with the story uh the animations and the character designs all looked great from the
characters that we knew from the movies I enjoyed playing as Starlord I know a lot of us wanted
to play all of the characters but when you get down to it and I look back on it's like that was a
good time that was a good game that's a good one to put there too yeah I remember for overall
Guardians of the Galaxy being a letdown for me because I wanted it to be better,
but I didn't hate playing it.
And the story was so good and the performances were so good.
I just thought the gameplay was kind of bleh.
That's one where the story definitely outshines the gameplay.
And it outshines it enough to where I'd give it like a higher score.
Because even though I didn't think the gameplay was the bees, knees and everybody,
you got to play this video game.
It's like the story for me, it was and those character arcs and those character moments were so rewarding.
I bet just one of those
like this is some of the best riding in gaming
that I've experienced. See, I went the opposite way
with it where that one is under one of my sixes
where it's kind of the flip of
what Andy just mentioned where I found
the gameplay so dull that I didn't even care
to like get through and finish the story.
Like I probably got through like I was in the final
chapters of that game. I was probably like eight
tenths or four fifth I guess
four fifth of the way through it
and like it got to a really cool
like you know emotional moment
with like Gamora and I was like
All right, yeah, this is cool.
And I played a bit more.
And I was like, you know what, man?
No, I'm good.
I don't need to play anymore.
I do not enjoy the shooting.
I do not enjoy any of like, I think it's inspired.
Like, I like, I like that they got creative with some of those gameplay elements in terms of like factoring your team into the equation and all that.
But I was just like, man, this is not heading for me whatsoever.
What was your seven out of ten, bless?
My seven out of ten, somebody in chat mentioned, like, if Sparney Man 2 is my A, where would I put Miles Morales?
I have Miles Morales written down here as a seven for me.
And alongside it, I also have Stray.
I got Sonic Frontiers and also got Dying Light too.
And I think Dying Light too would be my quintessential example
where like, that is a good video game.
Like that's a video game that I was surprised by, honestly.
You know, I don't know.
I guess I don't know what I was expecting if I am like,
this game surprised me and it's a seven.
But I just wasn't expecting to get sucked into it in the way that I did.
But it's also one that I'm like, it's not one of the,
it's far from the best open road game I played.
It's far from the best action game I played.
I think it just does a handful of things right enough to where I'm like, no, there's a,
good time.
I would recommend this.
And it has bad things about it, but it's enjoyable.
That final boss fight, right?
That final boss fight sucks.
I think for me, what's interesting, it's interesting you put this here too, right?
Because what I think I would do is for a seven out of ten good, I would put Dead Island
to.
And for a six out of ten, okay, I would put Dying Light too.
But you like Dying Light 2 less than Dead Island 2?
Yeah, dying like too.
I was never compelled to come back to.
Again, again, it's whatever.
Michael, with you.
Whatever, man.
You're Broding, Michael.
I like this setting better.
I don't know, you know what I mean?
Like, again, dying light too, like, I think the park horror was so much fun, right?
But it was the idea that, like, your choices I didn't feel like were making that big of a difference.
I hate the ending boss.
General, the narrative was whatever.
Like, Dead Island 2's narrative sucks too, but it's more like, it also is.
Hey, go fuck people up with electrified things and this, that, the other.
Like, you know, I was like, okay, cool.
I'd rather go do that then.
I've never thought about coming back to dying light too after we beat it and Dead Island too I have actively come back to.
No, they got a dope DLC Greg.
We should return to it though because they got a cool looking DLC out right now.
The like their fire festival, right?
Yeah.
Yes.
I forget what they actually called the festival or something like that.
Andy, what's your seven out of ten?
Outriders, baby.
Jacob.
This game ruled, man.
The ultimate seven out of ten is right.
The ultimate quintessential.
seven out of ten. A game that I had a lot of fun with, despite, you know, some of the systems
maybe feeling half baked, despite a lot of the narrative and character moments not really
feeling fulfilling. But man, it's a fun third person shooter that I would say if you have
any interest in just challenging yourself and playing a cool third person shooter with really
fun mechanics, definitely play Outriders.
Okay.
That brings us to what will be our final one today.
We'll do our 6010 today.
So we've just gone and had such great conversations.
And it's a,
I don't want to rush through the other ones.
And especially with Tim not being here,
I think we can have Tim come in and talk about his.
And then we can also pair it with a bunch of other stuff.
But I also saw real quick in the,
in the chat song said,
damn, no love for Sirepunk.
That'd be a nine out of 10 for me.
Wow.
Yeah, sorry.
I put that at nine too.
But we were just picking, yeah,
I was just trying to pick random games.
And there's plenty that we didn't list, obviously.
So then six out of 10, okay.
Andy, keep the floor.
What would you put as an okay?
An okay is a game that I have a whole lot of love in my heart for,
despite the wackiness, despite the bad moments,
despite all of the situations where you're asking yourself,
like, were they purposely trying to make it this way?
where they really try and to make it amazing.
And that would be Final Fantasy Stranger of Paradise,
Final Fantasy Origin, Stranger of Paradise.
A game with some combat that can be a bit frustrating in moments,
and you see the glimpses of goodness in what the combat can be.
And if anything like this game made me smile a lot
because of how bad it was in a lot of its dialogue and writing,
and it is one of those like if we were doing this if it was a movie and we were doing an in review of it
we'd all be like well at least it was fun at least it made me laugh uh because there was plenty of
moments that are just absolutely hysterical uh but like kind of had some wild reveals near
the end that legitimately had me going like oh shit okay this is i wasn't expecting you all to do this
um yeah it's a it's a it's an okay time i would say
that's when I was struggling with you
because like I was I was struggling with
putting it at like five or six
and it comes down to that exact thing you're saying
where it's like how much of this is on purpose
is this supposed to be the tone
because if it is y'all nailed it
maybe that's what true art is you know
yeah like the fucking main character
like being like fuck chaos
like you little bitch
like having that energy
I don't give a fuck who you are
yeah it's like just a lot of that
and I'm like this is like bad
but it's bad in a really fun way
that like, yeah, the combat is like good.
You know, it's like it's not the best,
but it's also, it's far from bad, right?
Like it is the team ninja doing the combat.
And so like there's a level of, okay, no,
there's the system here that works.
That is fun for the most part.
Ooh, I see on your list that you have another team ninja game.
Yeah, for my number six.
Oh, yeah.
For my number six.
Yeah, which I can get into, Greg,
if you want me to go for it.
Yeah, so like I, again, I listed games.
I mentioned Guardians of the Galaxy,
but then yeah,
Will Long Fallen Dynasty is the Teen Ninja Game
that I had in there
that I think suffers from a lot of things
that Andy's talking about.
I guess less than certain
in terms of tone and story.
The problem with the story
is that I just don't care about the story.
It will long fall in Dynasty.
Like it just wasn't engaging to me.
The combat was very fun,
but it also just had that weird balance of,
man, yeah, like it feels like there's a lot of stuff
lacking here in terms of like interesting level design
and better visuals.
And like, you know, like the list kind of goes on
of like, oh man, a lot of this stuff
could be done.
better, but it's also a game that I'm glad I played, which is why I would say it was okay
and not bad necessarily. Like, if I can go back in time, I wouldn't stop myself from playing
Wollong Fall and Dynasty. I'd be like, no, go for it. You're going to have a fine time.
But yeah, I also listed to a couple other games being Starfield and Hellblade 2, two games.
I think Starfield, I gave a three out of five. I would probably give that a six out of ten,
and then Hellblade 2 gave a 6.5 in our games cast recently.
Starfield was actually going to be my main pick for this one, just being that like, what a game
that I feel like didn't have it together in terms of like the harmony between its systems.
And like kind of for me failed on my what my expectations were for a Bethesdo, open world RPG sort of thing.
I was not engaged on the openness of it.
Like I didn't, I did not enjoy how many menus I had to go through and how much loading I had to go through to get from location to location.
I wish they made me care more about things like resource gathering or things like base building.
and like there's so many things out there that I felt like just did not encourage me as a player to want to interact with those things.
And then story didn't engage me also.
Like there are so many things that I'm like, this isn't doing it for me.
But then on the other hand, I played 40 hours of that game.
That means I must have at least enjoyed some of it.
And I did, right?
Like I enjoyed the combat.
I did enjoy some of like the shipbuilding and space exploring and some of the side quests as well.
But yeah, that's one that I'm like, if I'm giving a regular Bethesda game, or I guess regular is not the right word.
If I'm giving, I guess I fall out four, which is a Bethesda game that I like a lot.
If I were to give that an 8 out of 10 or even like a 9 out of 10,
I'd probably be an 8.
Starfield for me comes in at a 6 when I'm comparing it to like other Bethesda titles.
You're jumping off of your list here, right?
You mentioned Hellblade too.
I put for my 6 out of 10 an okay game, Hellblade send you a sacrifice.
Again, one that, I mean, we did the review for it and it's not that long ago,
so I don't need to wax on and on about it.
I gave it a 6.5 on that, right?
it falls into this okay category where it's just one of those games of like it's okay
i don't i don't think you need to play it i think it's really beautiful obviously don't get me wrong
i think the mocap's great etc etc but like it doesn't do anything in my book that is noteworthy
enough for me to tell you to go do it but again i think it was like fine to play through it's
i mean i'm very much like if that's what you're looking for if that's what you want to go before
sure but like it's also one that like i remember when we reviewed there was the fervor of ah man you guys
are crazy and then it's been crickets. Like I don't hear people talk about this game. So I feel like
we were right. You were wrong. Everybody wanted to argue with me. Mike, what would you close out with
your six out of ten? Yeah, my okay game is ghost recon breakpoints coming hot off of Wildlands,
which I thought was a much better time. I think they nailed the wacky and fun in Wildlands.
They went a little too tactical on this. But when I think of the gameplay of Ghost Recon breakpoint,
that's what really carries it for me is like, hey, they thought of a four person open world
tactical ghost recon game that me and my friends can get hey andy i'm on your six we're going to
bust through the door and five bless make sure to have our coverage is like that's exactly what
ghost recon breakpoint was they did not nail a lot of the game but for the experience it was okay
and i will always hold on to that one fantastic we did a lot of good work here ladies
