Starting point is 00:00:00 About to get into a brand new episode of Klein Alley Show, but first let's tell you about our good friends at the finest airport that ever was and ever will be. The San Bernardino International Airport. Especially when there's summer travel plans, it can get expensive at these airports. That's why you gotta go to this airport where parking is just five bucks a day. Plus you got those easy trips, San Francisco or Provo, Utah. Maybe you didn't plan anything this summer. See how easy it is. Don't be one of those people who has to pack your patience. Go to San Bernardino International Airport. Okay, enough shilling. Now it's time to get into a brand new episode of Klein Alley Show. I couldn't imagine what it would feel like to go into a job every day
Starting point is 00:00:33 and know that you are smarter than your boss, and yet they have the decisions, and they have the money, and they have the parking spot, and they're the ones who get to dictate when you work and when you don't. And you want to know why did they get there and I didn't. And they're there in their big boss office looking out their windows, sometimes coming in, sometimes just not. Sometimes don't see the boss here for a couple of weeks.
Starting point is 00:00:51 And you go, where is he? Where is he? And the guy comes back all tanned up and something, wearing like a lei, a flower necklace. Were you in Hawaii for two weeks? How could you tell? Go back to work. The Pooka Show.
Starting point is 00:01:02 Drinking out of a coconut in the halls, having his morning coffee. But that's how it is, Allie. That's the reality. Sucks. To not be the boss sucks. And if you are smarter than your boss and you want to prove it over the airwaves of KROQ right now,
Starting point is 00:01:14 we are demanding your boss will put up a day off that you get. It's an extra day off you were not planning on getting. They pay you for it. You get the day off. And we will give you the reason to have the day off by inviting you to our endless summer kegger tonight so you can drink and have a great time and then not have to go to work tomorrow,
Starting point is 00:01:28 which would turn a three-day Labor Day weekend into a four-day weekend. Pretty incredible. Wish we could do it. The greatest thing we could do, and I do believe that having an unscheduled, unexpected day off hits so much better than having a day off.
Starting point is 00:01:40 When you have a day off, you know you have. It's one thing. But when all of a sudden, you're like, what, we don't have to go in tomorrow? What? The best thing is that you didn't have plans. Like, if you know you have a day off, you start making plans or to-do lists,
Starting point is 00:01:51 all that crap. When you get an unexpected day off, it is just an open calendar. What? Do whatever I want. What is that even like anymore? Sleep in, watch some Netflix, do nothing at all, do something. It's time for Beat Your Boss. Beat your boss.
Starting point is 00:02:04 It's such a weekend early. Beat your boss. You can beat them surely. Beat your boss. Your win is their loss. Can you beat your boss? Beat your boss. Beat them good.
Starting point is 00:02:18 All right. It's an opportunity for you to beat your boss by proving you know more than them. This occasionally does backfire, and the boss proves to be way smarter than the underling. It's happened. And that is a bad problem, and then the boss is like, that's why I'm the boss, and now you have to come in and work on Saturday. Let me say good morning to a lot of people that like to battle their bosses. Let me say hi to Billy. Hey, Billy, what do you do, Billy?
Starting point is 00:02:41 I fix guitars at Eric's Guitar Shop. You fix guitars? I fix guitars all day long. And is it a good job? Do you like doing it? Fantastic job. I get to work with my hands all day. You know, just I don't have any complaints.
Starting point is 00:02:58 But, you know, if I could be my boss, I'm going to be stoked. Do you have to hear a lot of middle-aged men in there poorly playing ACDC songs all day? Well, he plays a lot of K-Rock, so I have to listen to that. That's good, then, I guess. I have to listen to that. That's right. Another satisfied customer. And who is your boss?
Starting point is 00:03:16 Eric. It's Eric's guitar show. How long has Eric been your boss? He's been my boss for eight years. And your relationship with him is good? Yeah, very good. And you have a traditional 9 to 5 Monday through Friday, or what's your schedule like? I work Wednesday through Saturday, 10 hours a day.
Starting point is 00:03:39 Wow. A lot of broken guitars. Well, you have to smash them on stage. You have to smash them and then bring them right over to Eric's, and he'll fix them up for you. And when's the last time you got in trouble from your boss? What did you do? Jeez, I don't even remember. If I mess up somebody's guitar, I got to, you know, fix it.
Starting point is 00:03:56 But I don't think I've ever really gotten, you know, in trouble or yelled at. But Eric could fire you. Obviously, his name's on the storefront, so he does run the shop. And he could fire you if you wanted to. He decides how much you get paid. He decides when you're working, when you're not, right? Those are all his calls. He runs the shop, so he could let me go at any time, and I'd have to go work at McDonald's.
Starting point is 00:04:18 And if you're not in, is there anybody who can do your job, or you're the only one who's repairing the guitars? It's me and Eric that would both fix the guitars and help customers. So we're both doing the work of 10. Eric, let me say hi to your boss. You are the Eric of Eric's Guitars? Hey, Kevin. Yes, I am. And this guy, Billy, is a good employee? Most of the time he is, yes.
Starting point is 00:04:47 And if he beats you in this game we have prepared called Beat Your Boss, you are prepared to give him tomorrow off? Oh, am I prepared to? I'm not prepared to, so I better win. Okay. And if you do beat him, what do you demand from him in exchange? Oral? No, we've already gotten past that.
Starting point is 00:05:07 Oh, good. That's how we got the job. maybe you'll have to make me a great dinner and work all next week for free oh man man that is brutal eric's got pretty high here all right so it's one day versus one week uh but he will be able to also leave early today so he can join us with slightly stupid at the endless summer kegger tonight in newport beach correct you understand that he probably can't work his 10-hour shift today if he has to leave early and get to newport as long as you put him on the list i'll let him go. All right, so let's do this
Starting point is 00:05:38 then. Let's put Billy on hold. We always let the boss go first, so we're going to put Billy on hold. Billy, good luck. We'll talk to you again in a moment. Thank you. All right, that's Billy and his boss. Billy and Eric. Billy sounds a little upset about how that just went. Yeah, well, that's the problem. When you challenge your boss, sometimes
Starting point is 00:05:54 the boss goes, hey, by the way, if I beat you, this is what you're going to lose. All right, I got questions here. We're going to go ahead and set the clock, and you will get as many of these questions as you possibly can, right? Then Billy will have a chance to try to beat you are you ready i am yes all right you think you're a smart guy uh i'm well i'm very smart on things that you guys talk about in k-rock because that's all
Starting point is 00:06:17 we listen to all right appreciate the loyalty here we go uh time starts after i ask the first question uh what is the largest planet in our solar system um uh jupiter who painted the mona lisa uh van gogh how many bones are in the adult human body i'm going to guess it is a guess 327 what is the uh largest ocean the at the pacific ocean uh which is the chemical symbol for gold on the periodic table Oh, gosh. Chemical symbol for gold is G3. What is the fastest animal on land?
Starting point is 00:07:07 A gazelle. Oh. And we will end with this one. Who was the first person to ever walk on the moon? Neil Armstrong. All right. There's your time. Allie, you've written down his answers.
Starting point is 00:07:22 I have, yes. I will go ahead and score. I mean, I can tell you right now you had some trouble. I got a lot of them right. You got a few right and you got a few wrong. Some surprising answers in there. And so we will go ahead and let your underling play right now. And then we will score it and decide if he has beaten you or not.
Starting point is 00:07:38 How do you feel, Eric, after your round? Well, given that you said I got some right and some wrong, I feel okay about it. All right. I like where you've set your own expectations. Let me grab Billy now. Billy has not been able to hear any of that. Billy. all right let's do that you have a chance to beat your boss right now so here we go uh time will
Starting point is 00:07:57 questions will begin after the first oh well hold on stop the clock stop the clock here we go get ready as soon as we ask the first question the clock will begin and answer these questions as quickly as you possibly can here we go nope nope nope stop the clock god whoever's running that clock is an idiot let's go guys get it together what is the largest planet in our solar system uh venus venus uh who painted the mona lisa hurry up billy uh hold on um oh man don't tell us to hold on we're running the quiz I'm working next week Oh no
Starting point is 00:08:49 Oh my gosh Next question How many bones are in the adult human body? 208 Which is the largest ocean? The Pacific What is the chemical symbol for gold on the periodic table? AU
Starting point is 00:09:08 What is the fastest land animal? Lion. Lion? Who was the first person to walk on the moon? Did they? But Neil Armstrong. Time is up. Time is up.
Starting point is 00:09:24 All right. Well, they got the same amount of questions given to them. And now we got to go to the scores. And I'll tell you, this actually could be closer than you originally think. Yeah, I want to go through them. So right now we've got, let's get your boss back on. Billy is on. Eric, you're there as well.
Starting point is 00:09:39 Hello. All right. It's the score time now. Let's figure this out. Question number one. Largest planet in our solar system is Jupiter. Boss got a point on that one. Yep.
Starting point is 00:09:50 Sadly. Venus is small. Billy, you did not. So, boss is up. I got everyone out there. Boss is up one nothing. Can we stop now? This sounds great.
Starting point is 00:09:58 Yeah. That's a real boss joke. Who painted the Mona Lisa? We got a Van Gogh guess from the boss, which is incorrect. Picasso. No. Also wrong. It is the Leonardo da Vinci.
Starting point is 00:10:16 So no one got that one, Raleigh. Yeah, that's... Boss still up one. Still one to zero. How many bones in the adult human body was interesting? Boss said north of 300. The correct answer is 206. And I'll give Billy credit.
Starting point is 00:10:30 Billy guessed 208. Yeah, I was wondering if we were going to do closest. So I think we will go closest on that one and give Billy a point. I can't believe he got that almost exactly right. I mean, it's pretty impressive. For as long as it took him to answer it, I feel like he was counting them up. Now we're one-to-one tied. Yeah, then we go to the largest ocean, and the correct answer is Pacific,
Starting point is 00:10:48 which was said by Boss after changing from Atlantic. Billy also gave us Pacific, so here we are tied again. We went to chemical symbol for gold. Boss had no answer. No, he said G3. Oh, yeah, that was the weirdest thing ever. G3. G to the power of three.
Starting point is 00:11:03 We did get the right answer from Billy, which was AU. Yeah, so he's one up now. So now all of a sudden the underling takes the lead over the boss. Three to two. Then we went to fastest land animal. And we got some ridiculous answers, including lion. And gazelle. And gazelle, which are not.
Starting point is 00:11:21 Cheetah is the fastest of the land animals. Everyone knows that. Cheetah. Lions are lazy as hell. So no one gets the point on that. I don't know about gazelle. I like to, you know, double down on gazelle. And we ended up, Allie, on the first person to walk on the moon.
Starting point is 00:11:39 and we got a Neil Armstrong from both of them. Although Billy was unsure if anyone's ever walked on the moon. A little conspiracy theory action too. But they both technically got that right. So at the end of it all... With a score of four to three,
Starting point is 00:11:54 Billy the employee has won Beat Your Boss. I can't even believe it. Billy. Incredible. What a come from behind victory. I really thought after those first two questions he was done.
Starting point is 00:12:08 I mean, I was convinced you were just dead in the water. But, Billy, you have done it. Eric, I'm sorry. Sometimes bosses have to have a bad day. And I know you'll take it out on the other employees by making them wear a uniform or doing massive layoffs or something. But regardless, at this exact moment, Billy will be leaving today early to come to our Endless Summer Kegger. And he will not be in tomorrow. We'll see about that.
Starting point is 00:12:33 Sorry, buddy. It's going to be a bad day to have a broken guitar. Thank you for joining us. This has been Beat Your Boss on KROQ.
