We'll get into an episode of Klein Alley Show in just a moment, but in the meantime,
let's tell you about our absolute favorite place on the planet.
Yep, that would be San Bernardino International Airport, where you can go through the airport
process without waiting in long lines and overpaying for parking.
Quick connections to the Bay Area and the world, plus ski and snowboard in Provo
from San Bernardino all winter long.
Every other airport, you're going to be in long TSA lines, you're going to be miserable,
you're going to say, oh, I got to get there two, three hours before my flight.
Not at San Bernardino International Airport.
And now we send you on a direct flight into our podcast, which starts right now.
Hey, Rock.
We are Klein Alley Show.
I have been officially scammed and bamboozled by my own family, which we'll get into in
just a moment.
Blind Charlie's on the phone.
Hey, what's up, Blind Charlie?
Good morning, guys.
How you doing?
Good.
What can we do for you, pal?
Oh, nothing.
I'm just out in front of Descanso shaking a sign, waiting for you guys to get your ass
over here so we can park.
Hey.
Oh, you're already there.
Well, yeah.
He doesn't know where he is, Alley.
Let's be honest.
He could be there.
And I know that you were texting, actually, earlier this week saying that you would like a more dangerous intersection to shake your sign.
Did anybody ever get back to you?
No.
Well, I don't know who got back to me, but somebody told me to go up the 405.
Oh, you walk up the 405 with your sign.
That would be cool.
That's a good idea.
But we don't want to kill you.
You're like our finest soldier, Blind Charlie.
Well, you know, with this outfit, who's going to hit me?
You know what I mean?
Are you still doing the Where's Waldo look, or are you doing that muscle shirt look?
Because that was pretty great, too.
Well, I do that when it gets too hot, and then I put on a floppy hat.
So, you know, depending on the temperature and the weather, I kind of adjust it up.
Hey, Blind Charlie, I saw it when we announced this thing we're doing later on today, the Fiesta Siesta.
You commented, wink, wink, and then you put a bunch of drink emojis there.
I don't know if you know what you're posting because you're blind, but are you tipping?
Is the wink blind code, or are you actually winking?
Yeah, what does that mean?
Well, you know what it means
because I don't want to get you guys in trouble
because the first time I did what the
winky winky was, I got
yelled at a little bit
and I was like, we can't do that.
Sounds like Blind Charlie's going to put his card down.
Blind Charlie's clearly a billionaire
and he puts his card down every time we go. He buys
a bunch of listeners drinks and it's super nice of him to do
that and we've asked you to stop but you
just keep doing it because you're just super generous
and anyway, that'll be happening probably.
Who yelled at him? I think that
that we were not allowed to...
There's some stupid rule about...
Probably Vanessa.
Vanessa.
She hates him.
Yeah, Vanessa's not a fan of Blind Charlie
because he likes to, you know,
do fun things.
We don't have a sugar daddy.
We need one.
We're not above a sugar daddy,
so if Blind Charlie is the sugar daddy,
our company sure as hell isn't.
We keep sending Blind Charlie feet pics, too,
because we assume that's the way
the relationship's supposed to go.
Yeah, you liking the feet pics?
He doesn't even see them.
I have no idea what the hell
you're talking about right now.
That's right.
That's good.
I've got a...
Every week we send you more feet pics because we assume that's why you keep buying stuff
for us, but it doesn't seem to matter.
He's doing it anyway, Ali, out of the kindness of his own heart.
Yeah, we've got some bad feet, you and I.
The worst.
I mean.
It's a good thing he's blind.
All right, well, thanks.
Doesn't Jake have that weird toe?
He does.
Jake does have the weird toe, yeah.
Yeah, we like it.
Jar Jar Pinks.
Yeah, Toby one Kenobi.
Yeah, he's got the weirdest of the toes.
All right, Blind Charlie, we'll see you later today.
Thanks for being there nice and early.
That's very prompt.
Yeah, everybody else, get down here.
All right, so there's Blind Charlie standing outside.
At Descanso, getting ready for the post-show hang today, the Fiesta Siesta.
And if you've got an extra kidney, bring that as well.
He needs it.
Oh, yeah, he does still need a kidney.
So if you could show up, yeah, we'll give you a T-shirt.
You give us a kidney.
We'll call it a fair swap.
You know, I was telling you guys a few months back, and I knew this was going to end up the way it ended up,
but that my wife was explaining to my daughters the power of volunteering.
And the place that she wanted to volunteer was at a dog shelter.
Yeah, somewhere in Pasadena, right?
First, it was the Pasadena Humane Society place where they didn't actually do the...
I don't even think they did a minute of volunteering there.
I think they did a walkthrough for the tour to volunteer.
And the person said to them what they need the volunteers to do.
And it's a lot of folding blankets and washing towels and stuff.
And I don't think it was as much rolling around with dogs like they thought it would be.
Well, I don't think that volunteering for a dog shelter is just playing with dogs.
I think it's a lot of cleaning crates and crap.
Right.
It's power washing turds off of crates.
Yeah.
And that's probably most of what it is, and occasionally filling food bowls.
It's not the fun stuff you think it is.
And then that began this kind of, oh, look at all these dogs that need places to live and blah, blah, blah.
And then there became a, she signed up for some listserv that was all of the places around that have, that need volunteers to help out, but more hands-on with the dogs.
Walk dogs, foster dogs.
Then she started talking to this other mom that's been fostering dogs.
and the but the really what it is is the mom gets a couple of dogs every week or two weeks and then
needs to find homes for them oh so she's a dog pusher yeah so you kind of become like an unofficial
dog pusher where you start come in her sphere she wants everybody in her circle you know in her
circle of friends to adopt and like inviting the oh the kids should come play with the kid oh by
the way and then if they call and you know they have an extra dog here we could take it home with
us today if we want it and i'm going guys well what's happening here i got two little kids i got
a dog we got enough stuff going on it's enough um sorry to interject uh but and excuse my ignorance
but do they still kill off dogs if they're there for longer than a month and or that is that still
the thing well i think they have no kill shelters now yeah i don't know if pasadena is a kill
shelter god i hope they are no it's yeah just dogs yeah it's uh no i good good question omar
i think the the issue is a lot of these shelters and a lot of them do good work and they try to
move the dogs from place to place
to avoid them meeting their ultimate
maker. Yes, Pasadena Humane Society does
euthanize animals.
Oh, damn.
They put that on the building?
I don't know if that is...
Well, I think a lot of it is because of overcrowding.
I think they literally can't accommodate.
So then if there's a dog that's older or sick...
Or a go.
That's why they like to do this foster thing
because it clears up some space for them.
People open up the house.
People can kill them in their own homes.
You kill them right in your own home,
comfort in your own home, right?
Bring them to Vanessa.
So you think that, and then the idea,
and I know that they're smart about the way this works
because you're going to form a bond
with whichever dog you bring in,
and then you're going to say, I can't give this away.
And that's where you got to get weird
because you got to be at this place
if you're fostering,
if you're one of these people that can do that,
where you have to go,
I'm going to love this thing like it's my own,
but also my goal is to get rid of it.
My goal is to give it to a family
or give it a good life.
I know a few people that have fostered animals.
This is like that cat woman you went to.
exactly this is a slippery slope of course there's two paths you can take one which is the past most
people take which is i'm gonna adopt i'm gonna foster this animal up i'm gonna actually adopt
this animal never mind i'm not gonna foster that's a lot of what people do right then they're fine
with everyone's fine with that because that's a win-win-win-win right i'm gonna foster once but
then i'm just gonna keep them and i'll be done with it yeah the other thing is i'm really gonna
commit to this fostering thing and then it spirals out of control then you start one dog two three
four then you've got a room that is now dedicated to animals then you end up like my friend ronda
who's got 60 plus cats in her house and she's just got a really good heart and no extra and
a lot of cat crap so a week ago she i got a call or my wife talks to this other mom and she's got
currently two rescues and two fosters that's four dogs in her house with and she goes i need someone
to help me out with these other two the two fosters because either i have to send them back
to the i think you have a certain amount of time to try to unload them on people and if they don't
take them then the shell they go back to the shell dog burgers so i didn't suggest that uh and i and
this conversation started with let's help out our friend by by taking these two dogs for the time
being and i said nah not happening what is time being right exactly who knows who knows is that
infinite time being is all time means nothing till i die until i get a bathtub with a toaster
time being so then it becomes are these puppies uh no little dogs these ones i think were found
on skid row in a box or something there's always some story i don't even know if these stories are
real or not to be honest they all every story is a heartbreaking story but it almost feels
so heartbreaking that it was like a scripted you know this was a guy that was walking around skid
row with a wagon full of puppies and then they found they said this you know these things are
malnourished we take them it's a whole thing you know well and i understand it's it's a specific
type of person who can take dogs in like this and i think they should have a lot of respect however
most families don't have the ability to deal with health problems behavioral problems there's a lot
that goes into taking care of these animals so i say i put my foot down not happening and then a
couple days later now i'm on a list serve now we've got a there's a you know oh there's how
many times did you put your foot down during this process i tried three times right i successfully
did it twice. And just spoiler alert, you have
a dog now. Yes, I have another dog
now.
So how long has the foot been down
now? It's not good.
You gotta get a bigger shoe, man.
Your foot is down in dog crap. My foot is down
in a pile of dog crap.
The thing's got a bunch of parasites, got a bunch of
problems because
I don't know what the situation was here, but
it was one situation where I think
a pregnant dog got
surrendered or something like that, and then
the pregnant dog spit out
11 dogs or something. It was a crazy
slut dog. So it wasn't one of the
cool skid row puppy wagon dogs? This was not a skid
row wagon dog. I don't know this
story. I actually haven't asked for the origin
story yet because I was so busy trying to put my effing foot
down. You have to learn it so you can brag about
it at the park to other people. Yeah.
Lo and behold now, there's another dog
that is at my house now
and as a result, I'm now
the one that didn't want the dog, by the way, is
the one that, guess what, is waking up every two
hours. Of course. To clean
up crap
and the thing has already figured out a way to escape
the little makeshift cage
I put together and now it's escaping
it. Why did you build a cage?
There's so many that you can get on Amazon.
Now I have one that's arrived but I gotta put that together.
How could I do this?
The first one I put together.
I borrowed Alan's welding costume.
And the thing got out and crapped all over.
It's crapped in every room now.
Of course, it's a puppy. I know the way puppies work.
I get it.
Puppies are a lot of work.
Yeah, thank you.
I know.
Hello?
Yeah, I want you to puppy.
I don't know.
Bad move.
Should have gotten the wagon skid row dog.
Yeah, man.
I got to move out.
Homeless dogs are good dogs.
Totally.
Anyway.
So you're happy with the choice?
Vanessa's really excited about it.
What's the new dog's name?
George.
Aw.
For time being.
She's eating a burger.
If you've named the dog, then you've already committed to keeping it.
Is there any turning back now?
Is there a way you can give the dog back or it's done?
20 days.
Oh, okay.
By 20 days left or 20 days from when you got him?
You know what?
You have 20 days to plant evidence and make this dog seem like the world's worst dog.
I don't have to do much to make it seem that way right now.
Yeah, but if you turn it in, it's done-zo for the puppy.
I'm sure it'll find a place.
Yeah, this one's cute.
It's got a...
It's all fluffed up and stuff.
No, but it's Essie and all over the place.
It does have a...
It's going to keep getting returned and returned and returned.
Of course, it does have...
because that's the part of the thing is I've got to get all the vet checks
and all that stuff, pay for the medicines.
So you talked about paying a lot of money for an animal.
That's on you?
Yeah, dude.
That's on me.
Oh, man.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Oh, yeah.
But we love George.
That's great.
Anyway, let's take a quick break.
We've got ADD news to get to in a moment,
and then we have stuff to give you.
So if you want to go to the next four shows happening here at KROQ,
we will get you in, and that's happening later this morning
with the return of Human Bingo.
Are we looking for you?
You'll just have to listen and find out.
That's all coming up on KROQ.
