Welcome to Hour 2 of Kentucky Sports Radio, presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Now, here's Matt Jones.
Welcome back. Hour number two, Kentucky Sports Radio.
8-509-280-2287.
Text machine, 772-754.
I want to do a couple other things real quick, but first one person writes, Matt, be a man,
and take a stance.
Do you think Cal should be gone?
Like I said, I'm not going to say that.
We got to finish the year.
Let me give one note of positivity.
There still is enough talent on this team
that they could go on a March run.
The 2014 team did it.
They looked worse than this team did at this point in the year,
and they did it.
So I'm not given up yet.
Now, let me just say, I'm not Uber optimistic,
but I'm not giving up,
and I think if he makes a big March run,
run, then I think you just have to say, okay, let's run it back.
But if we lose in the first and second round, it's going to be awful.
And I don't know what you do then.
I really don't.
I don't know what you do.
They're not going to fire him because they can't.
It'll be a $33 million buyout that school does not have the money to pay for.
So, you know, and he has a clause in his contract, Shannon, that hits.
in March that allows him to basically get a million dollars a year for the rest of his life.
Wow, that's a great clause.
How do I get that?
That's the lifetime part.
It's your favorite part.
And that vest this March.
So he ain't given that up.
No.
So it's like, you know, it kind of is what it is.
All right, I want to talk about a couple other things.
The only person that probably was happy we lost Saturday was Liam Cohen because then people stopped talking about him.
True.
Because people were very upset when that got official, understandably so.
You know, on a personal level, I'm frustrated a little bit with him because I, you know, well, you come here and you say you're going to plant root.
You got to stay more than a year, right?
you got to stay more than a year.
You just do.
And, you know, it is what it is.
I wish him the best.
I don't know if I'd want to hitch my NFL offensive coordinator future on Baker Mayfield,
but I guess he's going to do it.
I think he's setting himself up for a tough spot because the Bucks made the playoffs this year, right?
And won a game.
So it's going to be very hard for them to match that again.
And if they don't, you know, who's going to get blamed is him.
So I think it's an odd decision, but it is what it is, rather than sort of going into it over with him because he's gone.
What would you like to see Stoops do now?
Right.
He's got to, you know, there's a reason Brock Van der Groiff wanted to come here, and there's a reason Ray Davis wanted to come here.
There's a reason these guys want to come because they want to play in that style, that system.
You think he's got to find somebody like that?
You've got to find somebody like that.
He just has to.
You know, it's been designed the last two or three years around that kind of system.
it's succeeded.
You've got to hire somebody that's going to continue that.
You have to.
Luckily, Cohen was making it so clear he didn't want to be here.
Hopefully Stoops knew weeks ago that this was going to have to happen,
and he already had some conversations.
The timing obviously sucks,
but at least Kentucky has a pretty good roster on paper for a coordinator
that you could say, hey, look at this, we're in the SEC.
Maybe you could steal someone.
I don't know who that is.
Again, at this point, it's pretty late in the game,
but at least Stoops is likely known a little longer than it actually happened
and that they have a roster they can put in front of someone.
I think there's going to be, I think any name you hear right now is a complete guess.
Just from conversations in talking to people, I don't think they, I think they were thinking,
but there is not like, okay, so two years ago, they knew there were like three guys they were looking at.
It was going to be one of these three guys, and then Skangarello became an option and they just took it, right?
last year he knew he wanted Liam.
I think this is going to be a much more open thing.
I don't know, Ryan, that they're going to immediately quickly get someone.
I mean, I think it'll happen probably this week,
but I don't know that it'll happen like today.
So I think this will be, we might find a person out, Ryan,
and didn't find them out, like none of us know who they are.
It might be like Liam the first time,
where he kind of came out of nowhere,
and all of a sudden this guy's the offensive coordinator.
That's what I'll say, we had never even heard.
heard of Liam Cohen first time.
Rick Skangarillo, out of nowhere, the second time.
Yeah, it could be the exact same thing.
We started talking about some guys this week, and by Friday, it could be a name surface
that we've never even heard of that Stoops has zeroed in on.
Here's what I do think it'll be.
This is the only insight.
I think it's going to be somebody with extensive college background.
I think the sort of get an NFL guy and hope it works, Stoops might be done with that.
Yeah.
I think the person, now that person might come from the NFL.
but they will have spent time in college.
I think you're going to see, I think Stoops is kind of like, I can't just keep having guys
be here one year.
So I think you're going to see, Drew, someone that has had an extensive amount of time in
college.
That in this time around, I think an NFL coach is less likely to join the mess that is college
football right now, too, because it seems to the culture you've got guys trying to get
to the NFL, even lesser positions.
So pulling one out of the NFL, I think will be even harder than it was when they got
going from the Rams.
Shannon, I have my favorite player in college basketball that doesn't play here, which is the kid in Indiana State.
Oh, I love that guy with the goggles.
The goggles, who's also really good, can't jump.
Doesn't have to.
Slower than anyone and scores 20 points.
First of all, the goggles.
Well, his coach, by the way, is the coach that was at LMU.
Did you know that?
Oh, I didn't know that.
The coach that took LMU, the national championship.
That's the coach in Indiana State now.
Really?
I think so.
Somebody told me that.
I'm just going to go with it.
But everything about him, Shannon is awesome.
He's chubby.
He's wearing Rex Bex.
He has weird tattoos.
And it's like he's in his own little space.
When I saw his picture, because he went off, so they played Drake and it was like the top two teams in the conference, they sold out the arena.
It was wild.
There were rumors Larry Bird was going to show up.
He didn't.
But when I saw that people call him Cream Abdul-Jabbar,
no, they don't.
Yes, they do.
Do they really?
Cream Abdul-Jabbar.
I haven't heard that one.
I heard college jokin.
She gets that one a lot.
Cream Abdul-Jabar.
They also, because of his goggles, call him Larry Blurred.
Well, let's stop with the Dole-Jabar.
No.
I like Larry Blurred, too.
I think Larry Blur.
And, oh, one more was LeBron Frames.
All right.
I like them all.
I like them all.
But Cream Abdul-Jabbar is pretty good.
It's pretty awesome.
So, I mean, if they make the tournament, that dude's going to be a star, isn't he?
Yeah.
I don't know what kind of NL money you're getting Terre Haute, Indiana right now with Indiana State.
But if they make the tournament, the dude can write his own check somewhere.
Dude, he's going to, he looks like the water boy.
Like, he shouldn't even be on.
Adam Sandler, but like, you know, like the water boy of the team shouldn't even be there.
He looks like I did in high school.
I mean, like he really does.
And yet he can ball.
Yeah.
Like he runs.
He's like Yokic in the sense that he's slow and still does whatever he wants.
He had that, you know, the flick of the wrist and spun it off the glass getting fouled yesterday.
He's moving at a snail's pace, but is somehow blowing by people and making crazy passes.
I need that guy in March Madness, unless it's against Kentucky.
I need that guy on the other side of the bracket in March Madness.
So which one's better?
Larry Blurred, LeBron Frame, Shannon, or Cream Abdul-Jabbar?
I'm going to go to Cream Abdul-Jabar.
I think that's the best one.
You're not going to top that.
They should have stopped right there.
Yeah, because of the goggles.
Cream wore the goggles.
This dude's so I'm going with Cream Abdul-Jabar also.
But you know what?
It's cream?
Yeah, but that's cream wore goggles.
This guy wears goggles.
Okay, but they're caught.
Yeah, so you get it's white.
Yeah.
Okay.
All right.
I got you.
Yeah.
I also wasn't sure if he knew.
Well, okay.
That's a great nickname.
It is a great nickname.
I think that's a great nickname.
How can nobody stop this guy, though?
I don't know.
I think it's because really fast people,
I think what makes them so hard to guard is there so much faster than everybody's.
But maybe really slow people by going at their own speed have the same effect.
They're just going at a different, it's like a slow person, Shannon on the interstate.
You don't know how to handle them because they're going so slow.
Maybe we could get them in the transfer portal to Kentucky.
Calipari would never coach a guy.
Calpair would never want to do like that.
You got a somewhat look the part.
He does.
He also could.
I don't think you can play in the SEC because he's only like 6'8.
But nevertheless, I do love the guy.
And you've got to watch Indiana State.
Congrats the former LMU coach there, getting it done.
Who's up next?
All right, let's get Bob.
Bob, go ahead, Bob.
Well, after giving up 103 points in rough cows,
at least bought everybody a free ice cream.
Now, from here on out, we've got to,
to win every game.
We might have to,
it's a situation.
We couldn't even get in the big dance.
And then if we're not going to win every game.
Well,
I can say,
we've got to look up.
Hope for the best.
And I could say,
the defense is what it is.
I don't know what the answer is,
but there's a lot of storm clouds
ahead for Cal and this team.
What is the record?
I appreciate the call about.
What's the record Kentucky has to have to make
sure they're in the tournament. So there's 10 games left. Gonzaga home, Bama home, at LSU,
at Mississippi State, at Auburn, at Tennessee. Those are six games that are not easy.
Ken Baum predicts four of them will be lost. Let's just assume you beat Vandy twice in Arkansas
at home. Let's assume those. Although if you lose any of those, then you're really in trouble.
Let's just assume those. You're sitting on six losses right now?
What do you have to go in the last games to make sure that you, that you, that you,
you make the tournament.
I think the answer, by the way, six and four.
If you're six and four, you're in.
But like, I mean, it ain't assured.
No, he's going to go six and four.
I mean, I think you will, but it's not assured.
As long as your losses are Auburn at Tennessee, Alabama,
like, if you were to lose to Vandy tomorrow night,
just we ain't going to the first round of the NCAA tournament.
We're going to a different tournament.
You've got bigger problems if you lose to that Vandy team.
Well, Vandy won.
It is.
The first one of the year, though.
Two winless teams.
Yeah, Vandy won a game.
You're on a winstreet.
So if your losses are the games that, you know, these big teams, you'll be fine.
But you can't drop these others.
CC2 with the death blow tomorrow night?
With Dr. Courtside?
Does Ellen sit on the Vandy side?
Can you imagine Shannon if we lost to Vandy and Brad Calipary, and that's how.
They just pick them apart because of Brad Calipari knowing his dad's every move.
Yeah, I don't think it's going to.
happen. Having last year. We're beating
twice last year. We're beating
Vandy. I'll say this. They should
beat Vandy, but they should have beat Vandy
on Senior Day last year, and Jerry
Stackhouse and Vandy laughed at that they
ran the same game plan on Friday the SACC
tournament a week later and beat him again.
So yes, they should beat Vandy, but
they should have beaten Vandy the last two times they played
Vandy, so nothing will shock me. Gonzaga,
by the way, is not good. Gonzaga lost at home
Saturday. Yeah, I saw that. So,
I mean, we better beat Gonzag.
Gonzagga's probably, if we beat them, they won't make the tournament.
So this turned into a big week to beat a bad Van Dykeen team and a bad Gonzaga team.
Yeah, who's next?
Andy.
Andy, go ahead, Andy.
Hey, guys.
I've been one of the people going into this last week that's kind of took up for the defense.
And I just thought that, I knew it's probably the worst defense of the Cal era.
And I just felt like that before they put a good defense together against Arkansas.
and then strung a couple halves together here and there.
And it felt like it was at least going in the right direction just a little bit.
But then Saturday night happened, and, I mean, there's no way I can defend that.
That'd be like defending Manson or something.
It's just not doable.
And I don't understand the why.
I mean, last year we was talking about we needed an offensive coordinator.
Well, John Welsh came in.
I don't know.
I mean, just kind of have kidding.
get a defensive coordinator.
I didn't get Quinole Martin back.
But at that point, though, at that point,
I mean, that's what Cal's good at his defense,
like, are supposed to be, like, I mean, at that point,
I don't know.
I appreciate the call.
I'm not for, like, bringing in more million-dollar coaches.
I mean, what are we paying him for if we're not going to do it, you know?
I don't know.
I'm as down on the Cal era as I've ever been.
It's not the Tennessee loss in and of itself because they're decent.
I mean, they're good.
But it's just the culmination of the last few weeks.

people will lose. But you know what? It can't be helped because I still have to do it for our radio
listeners. So we'll take a break and be right back. It's Kentucky Sports Radio.

This was last night at the Gramies, Ryan, with Tracy Chapman.
and Luke Combs.
Turned up, Shad.
So you know, this is one of my favorite songs of all time, right?
Fast Car by Tracy Chapp.
First of all, she has not performed in public in five years.
That's crazy.
She comes out, they lead the Grammys off with her.
She's standing there.
Luke Combs, now you know, I wasn't a huge fan of that version,
but I want to give a big salute to Luke Combs.
That's exactly if you're going to do a remake,
that's exactly how you do it.
They do this.
I'm sure the Grammy set it up.
But not only does it bring Chase Tracy Chapman back out.
Go back and watch the VIII.
video at the very beginning. The smile she gets. Yeah. When the crowd recognizes she's 60 years old,
looks amazing for 60 years old. The smile, when the crowd greets her, Shannon, you can tell
she didn't expect people to like know who she was. You know what I mean? Yeah. And then Luke
comes as they're singing. He looks at her the whole time. He lets her lead. When they sing together,
he backs off the mic. So her voice is like the thing. And it was, I'm not just saying this,
like it was one of the most beautiful things I've seen.
And I give him a huge, like, I'm a bigger fan of him now for doing that than I was before
because it was so neat.
And the internet exploded loving it.
And here's why I think people liked it so much.
This is just my take.
I'm sure I'm being a little melodramatic, because I love that song.
This is a woman, a black 60-year-old gay woman and a white conservative country singer.
And they sang that.
Their voices melded.
They seemed to really, you know, it's music, I know, but they seemed to really connect.
And it was beautiful.
It really was.
And it was like, you know, it was almost like it felt like this uniting thing across generations, right?
Across different kinds of people.
And then it's like they come together.
And, you know, this is my, maybe I'm in the minority on this.
But to me, I feel like people don't want to fight all the time, even though that's what happens.
And I just thought that was just like such a cool moment.
The Grammys does that every so often.
And I really, really like it.
And to give this woman her props, then when it came time for the applause, he, like, got out of the spotlight so that she would get the applause.
I just thought it was awesome.
One of my favorite things I've seen in a long time in music was that yesterday.
You know, kudos to the producers.
They were smart enough to do that to start the lead off the show because you showed me the video.
You could tell she was really overwhelmed and touched by the response and the applause that she got.
It was kind of cool.
I mean, like you have Taylor Swift, like all these people standing up for her, right?
Yeah.
So I didn't like the remake, really, and I was kind of like, what does Luke come?
But you know what?
Kudos to him.
He gets that song back in the spotlight.
He uses it as a chance to honor the person.
that did it.
So I give a big salute to him for it last night.
I thought it was gourd.
I tweeted out just so it would be on my timeline so that I could find it in the future.
I haven't seen the Grammys in several years.
And when I saw a tweet yesterday that they were performing that together,
I made sure I was watching live and you just, you nailed it.
I'll add, though, I also thought it was very cool with him during their standing ovation.
He took an obvious step out of the spotlight, almost to like let her have the ovation,
even though he just sang half the song with her.
I won't make fun of him for having me just said that.
I think you said that at the end, though.
I thought you were saying.
No, no, no.
It was at the...
Oh, I didn't catch it.
But, yeah, I mean, I like his version.
And obviously, hers is one of the best songs of all time.
Putting it together, even the live version.
That was incredible.
Chan, you're a music guy.
Yeah.
I know, did you like that?
I thought it was a great performance.
I didn't look quite as deep into it as you did,
but I thought that it was mutual respect between musicians,
and it was cool for her to get her flowers
in front of maybe a new generation of fans who don't know the origin.
Her song was number one on iTunes yesterday.
Wow.
So, like, her song goes to number.
It didn't go to number one.
Well, well, iTunes did it.
But it didn't go to number one on the charts when she did it.
It was number one yesterday.
First time that's ever happened for her.
And that wouldn't have happened if it wasn't for that content.
So did she retire?
Is that why she's been out of the public?
The last time she performed live on television was David Letterman's, like, third from last show, however many years ago when he retired.
No kidding.
So.
I also think last night's important.
You know, I'm sure.
she's getting taken care of on the back end of this song being so popular now, Luke's version.
She owns it.
I know.
I'm sure she's doing very well.
But there is a whole generation that thinks Luke Cohen's his song.
So last night it is important because that is hers, even though you see Luke singing it all the time now.
And there was something about them singing together where you could also, you really listen to the lyrics.
The lyrics are amazing.
So anyway, I thought that was very, very cool.
Who's up next year?
Steve.
Steve.
Steve, what's up, Steve?
Steve, go ahead.
That's the part where you start talking, Steve.
I'm sorry, Steve. Who's next? Nick?
Yeah, Matt.
Just got something to say about this Wal-Kat basketball team.
First of all, Kentucky is known for winning the SEC regular season, winning the SEC
championships.
And the day that Cal downplayed those two issues, it's never been the same.
And it's just frustrating as a fan.
me and my wife were talking about it.
We're sad, we're frustrated, we're upset, and we're mad
that things aren't going better than what they should be going.
And that's all I've got to say.
I agree with you.
I've never liked, and I appreciate the call.
We focused on the tournament, but same with the regular season.
Winning the SEC regular season and win the SEC tournament should matter.
And in the last seven years,
Auburn, Alabama, and Tennessee have all won it more than we have.
I'd like to at least get to the weekend at the SEC tournament this year.
We can't even make it to Saturday to the SEC tournament.
Stephen Peake just sent me a nasty stat about that.
Since 2018, Kentucky has the 11th best record in the conference in the SEC tournament.
They're 2 and 4.
Ole Miss is 2 and 4.
Florida's 3 and 4.
Missouri's 4 and 4.
Vandy's 5 and 4.
We have the 11th best record in the SEC tournament.
I don't think he would lie to me.
He just texted this like a minute ago.
I'm seeing where he's showing his work since 2018, we're 2,000.
We're 2 and 4.
That feels right.
Okay.
Ten other teams have better records in the SEC tournament.
That's just outrageous.
That is Kentucky's tournament.
That is outrageous.
It's embarrassing.
That almost leaves me speechless.
I can't believe that.
We have the 11th best record in the SEC tournament,
Bama is 7 and 2.
That's essentially a home game for us every year.
Yep.
Two and four.
Would run it and win it.
every year. A&M, 6 and 4, Auburn, 5 and 3, LSU, 4 and 4, Tennessee.
Don't ruin this song to me with those stats. We'll take a break and be right about unbelievable.
T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J., he'll make them pay.
Welcome back to Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones.
So Taylor Swift also shut down the internet yesterday because she announced a new album coming out.
Every woman I know, Shannon lost their, I mean, like, like, was just, blah!
Like going crazy.
So April 19th, it's called something like Dead Poets Society.
Yeah, I think that's it.
Tortured Poets Department.
Tortured Poets Department.
Dead Poets Society is a good movie, Shannon's.
Don't you think?
Like, oh, Captain, my Captain.
Do you remember that movie?
Yeah, it's only been like 30 years since I've seen it.
It's been a long time that I've seen it.
Maybe they made everybody stand on the table and do the stuff with Robin Williams.
It was a good movie.
It was a good movie.
Anyway, it's called Tortured Poets Department.
But April 19th, and the world's going to shut down that day.
They should just not even have anymore.
But talk about pressure.
Can you imagine putting out an album that everyone would listen to?
I mean, I'm not going to listen to it, but I'm sure a lot of people will.
Yeah.
So there's going to be another era.
We learned the other day at trivia.
They're called eras.
They're called eras.
There's going to be another one.
Another era.
So I'm thinking we do the day.
next Taylor Swift trivia, Shannon, the night before it comes out, right?
That would be smart.
Oh, yeah.
That's when we ought to do it on April 18th.
And now you got something, right?
Good timing.
Super Bowl week.
She'll be at Super Bowl.
Good timing to announce.
Some Swifties were mad online that Travis Kelsey didn't come to the Grammys when she's
coming to the Super Bowl.
But he had practice.
He's a little busy.
He was practicing last night.
He wasn't practicing.
I'm just telling you.
I feel like.
I think people would have been mad at him.
Cheese fan would have been mad a week before the Super Bowl.
Especially they report this morning at the Super Bowl.
Yeah.
So I think he probably had no choice.
If he had gone to that last night,
Chief fans would have lost their mind,
especially if they lose the Super Bowl.
It's probably a smart decision.
Very smart decision.
All right.
So, you know, when we were talking about the NCAA tournament,
so we've decided we have to go the first and second round.
Fair enough?
Even if it's Spokane.
I think we have to.
because I think they're the most important games since the 2015 Final Four.
They're the most important games of the Cal Air.
Do you agree with that?
Yeah.
All right.
So I assumed it would be somewhere close because I thought we were going to be a one or two C.
Yes.
But now it could be anywhere.
So let's talk about the choices.
Okay.
I hadn't really looked these up, but now let's look them up.
Brooklyn.
Be good.
Expensive, but good.
Yeah.
We love that.
Charlotte.
Yeah.
Indianapolis.
They're not going to put us there.
No.
It plays it's cursed.
I'm fine.
Well, they're also not going to put us there because we're not going to be one of the top seasons.
They're not going to want us to get a crowd advantage on who we play, right?
Omaha, just for the record, this is just my suspicion.
After all that's happened this year, Shannon, they're sending us to Omaha where that referee lives.
You know they are.
Just because of your tie-ins with the guy from Omaha?
They are.
They're going to send us to Omaha.
You remember I said this, we are going to end up in Omaha.
Matt, we might as well book our rooms right now.
That's where they're going.
Pittsburgh.
That'd be easy.
We've been there a number of times.
Memphis.
Bad memory there.
But it'd be easy.
Now, here's the two.
Salt Lake City, Spokane, Washington.
I think the worst for you all is going to be this scenario.
I've kind of had some preliminary talks.
They basically have said to me,
drive unless it's in Spokane.
I think they'd fly to Spokane.
But driving to Salt Lake.
How long is that?
It ain't short.
No, it's not.
I've also thought about this.
What if we called up our old friend the Zephyr?
Chicago to Salt Lake.
It's on there.
Oh, Chicago to Salt Lake's on there?
Our old friend the Zephyr that we didn't get to do,
what was that a year ago?
might be back in the picture.
We can just zeper our way on to the NCAA tournament.
Shannon, of those, which would be the one that you would want the least?
I'm assuming it's Salt Lake, Omaha, or Spokane.
Which one would you want the least?
Salt Lake, then, I guess, if it's the longest drive.
Let's just assume that we could fly to Salt Lake.
Then which one would you want the least?
Omaha is a long day's drive, but it's a day's drive.
I don't want to go to Nebraska.
You don't want to go to Nebraska?
So Omaha would be your least favorite.
so, yep, if we're going to drive.
There's a part of me that wants to go to Spokane
because I'll never go otherwise.
You know what I mean?
Like you go to Seattle, but would you
ever go to Spokane, Washington otherwise?
No, would not.
I've never been to Salt Lake.
That would be interesting to me.
Salt Lake's pretty, but the thing about Salt Lake is
Boris Coles at like 5 p.m.
That's not exactly correct.
Brooklyn could be fun.
Brooklyn would be fun.
It's going to be expensive if we go there.
Brooklyn, we go hard.
That's right.
If we win, we can say that, you know?
Brooklyn, we go hard.
Brooklyn's my first pick.
I'm with Shannon on Omaha.
It is dead last for me.
I think that's where we're going to end up.
I just feel it.
Yeah.
I feel like it's far enough away that they'll think they're floating town,
but it's close enough.
You're breaking up on us.
But they feel like they get.
I think it's far enough away that we don't flood the town.
the town but it's close enough we'll get some fans
Shannon I think we're going to end up in
Omaha well that's worst case scenario
of all the places that's the last place that any
of us want to go I can run the bases
at the college world series field
no we've done that
we've done that you're not doing it again you got to think
of new things I think the biggest thing is though
they will put a restraining order on us
since someone lives there and that's
where a business is who's next
Cooper Cooper
Cooper how are you Cooper
good how are you
doing good
I'm 17 years old, so I don't know anything but the Calera,
but this is the most fresh-grade thing I've had as a UK fan.
Why?
Because since 2020, the team has just been declining ever since.
No, it is.
I mean, that's been the, and I, that people appreciate the call.
That's been the problem.
The problem is we're not, like, we're not even, I mean, on an upward path,
unless we have a good march.
Am I wrong in saying March determines the future?
Oh, no, not at all.
I think two years ago, St. Peters, when it was over, we all went.
We're just a couple of years away from Reed Shepard and DJ Wagner.
Last year, that sucked, but we all went.
Finally, Cal's class is here.
It's always been, wait until we get to 23, 24.
That's the one.
We've waited on DJ Wagner and Reed Shepard for five, six years,
put a great class around them.
Antonio Reeves is an SEC player of the year candidate.
everything we want is on this team.
We wait until March, and if it goes south there, then we say,
what possibly more could you want?
How was that not enough to put something together in the postseason?
Cal's got his team.
Remember where he kept saying, this is Cal's team.
This is the kind of team that he puts together and succeed.
These are his guys.
There's nothing that can happen, nothing,
that would make people excited about the team next year,
unless Reed came back.
read coming but even then the reed Travis Perry thing would even be hard to get excited about if this team doesn't do anything
I agree I mean I there's no way people won't go we'll look at the recruits we got next year because they're kind of over that right you throw stuff at someone that said but next year we have recruits like you just be like stop we had recruits this year like we can't we can't do it so yeah I don't I don't buy that hey uh tonight KS bar come on out tonight we also are debuting this week some
new sliders that we taste tested last week, they're going to be awesome.
They're probably going to be, they're going to vault up to second on my menu.
Yeah.
I think they're still going to pass the wings, but they're going to vault up there.
I think they come out maybe Wednesday.
You know, we had such an awesome environment and awesome crowd here Saturday before the game.
Biggest, best day financially we've had for a basketball day ever.
Was it?
Same with me on draft kings.
But, I mean, seriously.
like this has been unbelievable.
It was rocking all day Saturday.
People were excited to get to that game Saturday night.
And that's also, I think, stinks.
People got all day to get themselves excited, and then that happened.
Who's next, Shannon?
Fake Barney.
Fake Barney.
How are you?
Hey, guys, what's going on?
Carpe D.M.C.'s the day, dead poet boys.
What's going on?
It's an odd day for you to make your return after such a brutal game Saturday.
Well, you know, Matt, I've been thinking about you.
I know it was probably been a tough few days.
You had to stay up late and Cal got to go night night the other night,
and you were forced to stay up late.
You've been having all these people call you and make you, you know,
want to call for Cal to resign.
I just figured you were under a lot of stress and needed a call from her buddy.
Well, thank you very much.
I appreciate it.
It's been fine.
You know what?
Look, this is what we do.
And I still hope we turn it around and win.
Well, you know what, Matt, when I get saddened down,
the dumps you know what i like to turn on a good slow jam so i was thinking you know and i was like
you know i think matt could use a good slow jam to help get him out of his funk i don't know are you
going to sing instead we'd be together lifetime contracts never die then cal let the balls
come in here and scores more as v m mc Kentucky has come
the end of the road
but still Matt can't let
go. He won't call for a cow

You know, I was a little skeptical,
but that ended up being a good song.
Not going to lie to you. Thank you, fake
Marty. I appreciate it.
That was brilliant.
That was actually really good.
To end of the road,
too. It's a nice touch.
That was a nice touch. Not going to lie.

Welcome back, Tucky Sports Radio.
A lot of people, it's been listeners this show have never heard fake Barney before.
That's true.
It's been a while.
And so a lot of big on the text machine, but fake Barney fans.
One person writes Matt, I loved laughing at Fake Barney's song.
I'm a grown-ass man and I almost cry.
There you go.
That's good.
You know, Fake Barney was quite the celebrity for a long time.
He even signed one of the menus up at Malones.
He has a menu at Malones.
He does.
He got a new job, and so it's harder for him to call, but he used to call,
and it would happen.
He would sing probably once every couple weeks back in the day,
and now not as much, but I thought that was good.
Okay, a couple things.
Carolina and Kansas both won big games at home.
It looked like the home teams were going to win all of them
with Carolina, Kansas, and Hughes.
Houston. Thank you, folks. Carolina, Kansas, and Kentucky all winning home games, but then
Kentucky ended up losing. Yeah. I think Carolina's good, by the way. They are. Kansas,
Houston, Kansas was actually a home underdog. I mean, you don't see that in the fog ever,
and then they won that game. Houston's still very good, but in that building, Kansas is going to lose
that. When we saw they were a home underdog, that was my like lock of the year. Your
lock was Reed Shepard, that hit. And mine was Kansas at home. I just, I'm, if I'm, if I
I'm getting points and I'm Kansas at home.
I'm always taking Kansas.
I wish we could say that about us, but I'm definitely saying it about them.
What did the spread flip when Cal announced on the pregame show about DJ not playing?
Split.
We became the favorite.
We were the favorite at tip off.
Wow.
You know, the first two, like you said, Kansas won at home, North Carolina won at home,
and then Kentucky lost at home and then Gonzaga lost at home.
Like the four powers, two of them are able to hold the home serve.
And we were not.
That's exactly.
Also, the four teams ahead of Kentucky and the SEC all won.
I know we're focused on the NCAA resume, but I really don't want to have a Thursday game.
And we're going to need some Auburn, Alabama.
We need them to lose somewhere to even get the double-by.
Yeah, Auburn, Alabama, Tennessee, and South Carolina are all on pace to get the double-by.
We're going to need some losses because South Carolina and Tennessee right now would hold the tiebreaker on us.
You know, we do play Alabama only at home.
So, but listen, it's not, playing on Thursday is not just a possibility.
It's becoming a likelihood right now.
It's crazy to think that.
That is Kentucky's event.
Yeah, it's becoming a likelihood.
Who's next, Shannon?
Let's go to Blake.
Blake. How are you, Blake?
Doing great, guys.
How are you all?
Doing good.
I want to talk about something that the fans are not talking about
and the all-time jinx by Sam Bowie the other day.
when he said that if his team, if his team doesn't win, it's Cal's fault.
And then we go and lose and we give up 60 points in the second half.
And then we end up losing three of the next four games.
Yes, Sam, we did say that.
I don't think he was, yeah.
I don't know.
I won't blame Sam, but, you know, that's a really good point.
Sam comes out at halftime says that.
We have a horrible second half, and it really hasn't been the same since.
So I don't know.
We need to come back and do something.
about that. Yeah, it's a Sambooy jinks, Ryan. Like I said, the last three
game, they've given up 94, 96, and 103. I mean, it's almost
coaching malpractice that you don't try to change things up or do something
different defensively, you know? I don't know what you, I,
you know, listen, let me read something here because I got this and I want to
address it because, you know, we get a few versions of this, but this is,
let's see, what's his name, Dion. It's hard to believe that you,
a UK fan can sit on a Kentucky radio show,
you're heavily invested in,
be a fan of the program,
and then talk this bad about the team.
How can you do that?
What would you like us to do, Dion?
Would you like us to say,
I think, would you like us to say this?
You know what?
No big deal we lost at home to Florida.
Traditionally, our second biggest SEC rival.
No big deal we lost to Tennessee.
Traditionally, our biggest SEC rival.
No big deal in the Tennessee game we never let.
It's no big deal that we've only lost twice at home back to back eight times in history three in the last four years.
That's nothing.
Would you like me to say it's no big deal that currently we're in seventh place in the SEC?
It's no big deal that we have less NCAA tournament wins than all the powers historically in the last six years, right?
No big deal that we are 11th out of 14 teams at SEC tournament percentage in the last five years.
All that's normal.
You know what?
Go cat.
If you want me to say that, then that's unrealistic for this show.
The UK official pre and post game shows will say that.
Poor Jack Givens has to pick a defensive player of the game.
That may be harder than picking lottery numbers this year.
I think he actually has a lottery ball machine with players in and he pulls a random one out.
He literally has to pick the defensive player of the game every week.
But if you want that, that's fine.
But like, I don't know how you would listen to a show like that.
Because if the point of radio and entertainment is to be entertaining,
if you just tell me, if you're Baghdad Bob, how are you entertaining?
You know, I heard Howard Stern once say about Fox News and MSNN.
NBC. He was like, I don't find it entertaining because I know what they're going to say every
single day. I know exactly what they're going to say. Whatever the piece of news is, I know what they're
going to say. He was like, it's unpredictability is what is interesting. Well, I am not going to act like
things are great, Ryan, when they're not. Like, I'm not going to spit in your face and say it's
raining. Because we know what it feels like and where it should be. That's why I feel
sorry that that 17-year-old that Coldwall ago for guys like him and Josiah that are fans,
they don't know, they don't know the glory days.
They do remember just the last five or six, seven years.
They don't know how it's supposed to be.
Yeah, what if you started college, Shannon, during COVID and have followed this UK basketball?
Like, that's your top.
That would just be your- You're graduating this fall, and this has been your Kentucky basketball experience.
You've had one tournament win.
Yeah.
You waited your whole life to go to Kentucky and go to Rup Arena and be in the eruption zone.
I didn't go to UK, but I was in Lexington for 96, 97, 98, 99, and 2000.
Some of you all out there were in Lexington for 2010, 11, 12, or a 12, 13, 14, 50.
The class of 15 probably had it the best, right?
You got a title your first year, a championship run your junior year, and 38 and 1 your senior year.
the people graduating this year
haven't really gotten it like that
I was the last two of Tubby and then two Billy
I had it pretty bad
yeah that's not a good run either
that's a pretty rough run for us
Hey draft kings.com if you would like to get
