Cats get a big win last night, win by 32.
Starting point is 00:02:50 Game never. That's the kind of game that you enjoy. Don't get those a ton in SEC. Never in Jeopardy. Absolute route. get up 5-0 to begin and never look back 32-point win it was a feel-good game you had you had rob and reed go off robin reeves excuse me go off and then you had random guys you had uh big z reminded us he's on the team 11 points in 4,012 minutes uh Jordan burks gets 13 Justin Edwards gets 17 points it was uh definitely a feel good win
Starting point is 00:03:28 That's the best way to put it. A great feel-good win for the players, for the fan base, for us. I mean, how awesome is it to come in and do this show today after what we've been doing the last, what, three of the last four games coming in after a loss? So it was much, much needed for morale, if nothing else. And to see how they responded where they just shot the lights out and just kept their foot on the gas pedal the whole game. That's what I like.
Starting point is 00:03:49 I'm telling you, when they're shooting the ball well, they're so fun to watch. I mean, like it felt like every time Dillingham or, or Reeves shot a three. You're like, that's in. Like, why am I even watching this? That's in. We're going to, and it, it was great to see. Yeah, Reeves cooled off late, but there was a stretch.
Starting point is 00:04:08 He couldn't miss. Contested, wide open, off balance. He was throwing everything in. They had 10, three-pointers in the first half. Yeah. You know, it's Vanderbilt. I don't know what it means moving forward, but I think it was just a big confidence game for everyone.
Starting point is 00:04:20 I'm sure they were in a funk, having just lost twice at home. Like you said, saw a lot of guys that haven't even seen the floor lately. I don't know if we'll see a lot of. moving forward, who knows, but at least they all got to have some confidence. And really, outside of Reed's scoring, pretty much everyone played well and can walk away with their head up saying they had a pretty good game. But even Reed, outside of the scoring, played well. Yeah, it was plus 35 outside of the scoring.
Starting point is 00:04:42 Shannon, your team is awful, just so you know. I mean, that one dude. Don't talk about Kentucky like that. No, I mean, first of all, the one dude, if it wasn't for the dude that was wearing a full body suit. Yeah. What was that? I don't know what that was. That guy, he had on a full body suit.
Starting point is 00:04:58 It's his armor. For what? Is he worried about like a medieval battle when it's over? I'm not sure. Besides that guy who got hot. Like he hit, I think he hit five threes. You guys can't do anything. Well, yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:12 I could have told you that before we played the game. I mean, I knew it would be a big concern if Vanderbilt hung with them. But I wasn't expecting 109 points. I mean, Kentucky did. And it felt like we kind of took the foot off the gas. It felt they could have scored 120 in that game. if they had been like, if they had felt like it. Yeah, because they took Reeves out.
Starting point is 00:05:31 Yeah, Reeves didn't play the last six minutes. Yeah, and Dillingham became more of a facilitator. He was looking to pass third than the score. Had nine assists last night. If those two guys would have stayed offensive, aggressive offensively, they could have had 120 points maybe last night. Kareem Watkins almost made it 112. When you've got the walk on shooting three, he's almost got that one to go.
Starting point is 00:05:50 You know, it's a fun night. Joey Hart got in the game, got some run. I was sitting with a friend. I was sitting with the turkey hunter watching the game. And those, all the white guys came in. And he were like, who are those people? And I thought to myself, Austin Horn and Grant Darbyshire have to be the two most anonymous players to ever play here. Do you think that's true?
Starting point is 00:06:11 How many people do you think would know Grant Darbyshire? I got to be honest. I mean, I know the horn kick of Darren Horn's son. But would you recognize him? Yeah, I would recognize him. Would you recognize Grant? I would not recognize. If he walked in here right now, I don't think I would recognize it.
Starting point is 00:06:29 Would you recognize it? I would. I mean, I've interviewed him. I'm a little more face-to-face. Would you recognize Grant? No. Did Horn be get in the game last night? No, I don't think he got in.
Starting point is 00:06:39 Yeah, everybody else. Horn. Yeah, he did at the end. It was Brendan Canada, Kareem, Wachin, Darby Shire, Joey Hart, and Brendan, Canada. You said Brennan Canada twice. Oh. Darby Shire, Wackens, Canada, Hart.
Starting point is 00:06:53 That's it. Oh, yeah, Bradshaw was still in. He's not credited with on the box scoring. Yeah, I look, because he's the one I know. I recognize that. Those guys haven't had a fair fight. I mean, Sam Malone and Brian Long, they had it so good. They were stars.
Starting point is 00:07:06 They averaged more minutes than some SEC starters, I think. But here's the thing about Derbyshire. I know his dad pretty well. His dad is the guy who runs the Cal Camps. His dad is one of the guys running the collective, right? Okay. I like his dad a lot. I've seen that kid since that kid was a child.
Starting point is 00:07:26 I mean, that kid has been around this program since the John Wall days. I don't even know if I would recognize him when he walked in. If he did walk in, I wouldn't know it with him. I wouldn't. I don't know what number he is. I don't know anything about him. But anyway, it was... 13.
Starting point is 00:07:40 It was good to see him. Justin Edwards. For me, the feel-good thing is Justin Edwards getting 17 points. He got that dunk. Oh, that windmill dunk. That's one of the highlights of the season. I thought about you when I think. we said this last night that Michael Wilbon,
Starting point is 00:07:55 Michael Wilbon said on PTI that his kid made him turn on the Kentucky Tennessee game to see Dillingham. Yeah. Yeah, Josiah was at the year and he's texted me while he's at the game about Rob. Rob just hit three threes in a row. I'm like, I know, but I'm watching it. I mean, they love Rob.
Starting point is 00:08:15 They love, the kids love Dillingham. He is Mr. Excitement. There's no doubt about it. He's going to be a lottery pick, and he didn't start one game. And he won't start one game this year, probably. Well, so the Kentucky fans, a caller said they had like 80% Kentucky fans at the game. 80%?
Starting point is 00:08:34 Well, one said 80, once at 70. My goodness. Well, they were loud during the TV broadcast. You know, you could hear them. The only thing that outmatched the amount of Kentucky fans, Shannon, is how many cheerleaders you all have. You all literally the whole baseline, the whole sidelines. From one side to the other is Vandy Chie Chie. cheerleaders. Is that just to make sure your student attendance is good by having that many cheerleaders?
Starting point is 00:08:57 You know, you don't have to like make the cheerleading team. It's like a volunteer team. I also noticed that there were, you know, when you're winning a game like that, you notice side things. When Vandy would shoot a free throw, two cheerleaders would get up. Did you notice this? I didn't. Two cheerleaders, the rest would stay seated. They stay seated the whole game. It feels like I could be a Vandy cheerleader. They don't, they just sit down. Now, they sit in a way that is not easy to sit. Their legs are pointed over here. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:24 But anyway, two cheerleaders every time they would shoot a free throw would do a side flip and then sit back down. And it was the same too. And I remember thinking, how did they draw the straw that they had to get up and flip while everybody else drew just got to sit down during all? I didn't notice it. Maybe they're assigned to a certain player. You know that your person, you're on flip duty?
Starting point is 00:09:42 I enjoyed, and I can't believe it's taking me this long. Last night was the first time in my life I did the Tom Leach sink to the TV. I've been missing out. Why didn't anyone stress how fun that was? How did you do it? It was complete accident. I was listening to the pregame show just on my little Alexa thing, and I looked up, and it was almost perfect, so I just kind of paused it, and then there it was.
Starting point is 00:10:04 And I know people already do that already. I don't even know who called the game for SEC Network, but I really love listening to Tom and Goose. I know that's normal to some people, but that was my first time doing that. I like Goose, because every time we do something good, he just, like, makes a sound. He does. So, like, every time they, like, make a three, he goes, ah, there it is. Ooh.
Starting point is 00:10:21 It's like, if you glisten, because I hear it on the call as I'm waiting for the post game show, and they play the highlight. Yeah. It'll just be like, uh, shepherd goes in the corner, reads for three. Got it. Oh. Tom. Like I, you mentioned that I can hear him doing that. Also like he gives his Goose's Givens at the end of the game.
Starting point is 00:10:41 Yes. Which I, you know, I'm pretty hard on the JMI broadcast, but whoever came up with Goose's Givens. Yep. I think it's a good name. It is. of a slogan. It is good. I would have liked to have heard him last night because he's a big Jordan Burke's fan.
Starting point is 00:10:57 Jordan got off and I'm sure Jack was going crazy during all that. And he'll be like, yeah. You get it, big man. Do it again. Like he doesn't even, it's like right on the score. I'm a big fan. I think Billy should compile the goose given sounds he makes after basketball. That's a good idea.
Starting point is 00:11:20 little like a little sexual? It might be a little sexual the way it sounds, Shannon, because I think Goose gets very happy during the game. I've never noticed it, but now that you say that, I'm going to be listening. Listen to it. Like when they play the post game highlights and they play it, just listen how it's as if you're just hearing. It's like Jack's doing his vocal warm-up to be an opera singer.
Starting point is 00:11:41 Well, he's still kind of new and guys have their catch phrases, you know, bang in the NBA so big now. Maybe he's just gradually waiting for one to catch, and then that's going to be the Jack There you go. Put it on a t-shirt. It's nice. So they get the win. It gets, you know, it's a positive get back on track.
Starting point is 00:12:02 Yes. Now you got Gonzaga. This is what I said on the radio, and I think this is a good way to look at it. These two teams we play next with Gonzaga and Ole Miss are both bubble teams, right? They're both like either, they're probably both like that right now, right now. outside of the bubble. But they both still have a chance to get in the tournament. Oh, sure.
Starting point is 00:12:26 So I was making the argument last night in the post game the show that in some ways, so long as we make the tournament, I'm not going to say the rest of the year doesn't matter, but it kind of doesn't matter. And what I mean by that is we're going to, let's say we win 10 of these last 11 games. We're probably going to be a three seed.
Starting point is 00:12:49 Is that fair? I think it's quite fair. just because of our resume. Yeah. Maybe you sneak up to a two, but you're probably a three. Let's say we win five of these. No, not five, but six of these the last 11, or seven of these last 11.
Starting point is 00:13:03 We're probably like a six seed. The difference between three and a six seed is really just your first round game. Because if you're three seeds, you're playing a six in the second round. If you're six seats, you're playing a three in the second round. If you're a six seed in the first round, Ryan, you're going to play a team like Gonzaga and a second round. Ole Miss. Probably so.
Starting point is 00:13:22 You're going to end up playing somebody like that. Uh-huh. So I sort of see these next two games as, this is what it'll be like in a first-round game. It just happens to be there in Rupp Arena. Would you, do you agree with that? That's probably very fair, you know? You're going to meet a team like that. You're right.
Starting point is 00:13:40 If you're 16, yeah. It'll be someone like this, like in Omaha or Spokane. It'll be like it is Kentucky versus Gonzaga. Well, they can't play in Spokane, but Kentucky versus Zagga. Gonzaggy in Omaha. Ryan, I think you're just going to end up with a game like this. So, you know, how much have you grown up, Kentucky? Are you going to get to the point where you're going to gear up and try to fine tune
Starting point is 00:14:02 yourselves to make this March run? Are we still going to be struggling to find ourselves? You took a big step forward last night. Now you've got to keep that going. You can't take another step backwards. Of course, it'll help if they get DJ and Trey back when they get them back. I actually think it's not, and Cal said this in the post game, not a coincidence that you got your best Justin Edwards game.
Starting point is 00:14:21 with him basically playing the four. Oh, no doubt. I think he's a college four. Now, I don't think he's a four in the next level, but I think he's good. That allows him, he's kind of a mismatch for people out there, and I thought it actually helped him. Yeah, I think a lot of people wanted to see that earlier in the year,
Starting point is 00:14:41 because not just for him, but it allows you to put three guards out there with them, just makes the lineup even better offensively. I know you're a lot smaller, but he played well in that role last night. with Gonzaga coming forward It doesn't even really matter to the opponents I think it's important just to win some games in a row
Starting point is 00:14:55 Because in an SEC play they haven't won more than two in a row And for them to reach any kind of goal We know they're going to have to stack a lot of wins together In the NCAA tournament right now I think they just need to show some consistency To finish this year out Obviously need to build the resume too But just go on a little run
Starting point is 00:15:09 And show you can get hot and beat several teams Stacked up together because that's what's going to take We're two thirds the way through the season Two thirds away We did get We guarded the inbound passes Dude, played a zone During the underneath basket
Starting point is 00:15:24 Out of Bounds play We played a zone It does make me laugh It does make me laugh When you listen to Cal on the radio show On the post game comments Shannon he goes Do you see what I did on those inbound plays
Starting point is 00:15:34 We had a little zone It's like We've been screaming for that for a decade Everybody's been saying this Have you been on Facebook in the last month? That's all it is And then how about the amount of lobs that worked Oh, how about the lob from one seven footer to the other seven footer?
Starting point is 00:15:49 When does that ever happen? I think we hit like five lobs. Yeah, because Burke's hit three. Five successful lobs. So, you know, that was very good to see, too. 859-280-2287. We're still going to keep the lines closed. I want to talk more about the game and a couple other things.
Starting point is 00:16:06 We'll open up the phone lines at 1030. This is Kentucky Sports Radio. To talk to Matt Jones and the crew, call the Clark's Puppets Shop phone line at 859-2-8027. or 1-800-606-4263, and send us the Kentucky-branded tweet of the day by tweeting Matt at KY Sports Radio. Welcome back, Kentucky Sports Radio. 859-2-80-2287.
Starting point is 00:16:30 Text machine is 772-7-4-5-254. One person writes, I love Ryan. He says he's known Austin Horde since he was a kid. You think you might know that his name was Walker? Yeah, when you said that, I remember that. I'd like to ask that person. Have you ever met him? You ever talked to him?
Starting point is 00:16:49 Do you know if he walked in what he'd look like? So shut up. Well, to be fair, though, I mean... No, I tell him to shut up. But you didn't know. You've just been reading so much
Starting point is 00:17:00 Harold Leader of politics, you thought of Austin. That's what it was. Oh, that's true. Austin Horton's a former KS.R. Yeah, you just got to confuse it. That's what it is. That's what it is.
Starting point is 00:17:07 All in politics, you're following. Yeah. They're not going to steal my joy. Ryan loves the kid. He loves it. Just, you know, his name is the part that, like, it's okay. He got his last name, right? Yeah, I know he looks like.
Starting point is 00:17:20 You got the horn. Yeah, that's exactly right. One person writes, Matt, it drives me crazy the way you call every player a kid. They're not kids. Stop doing that. Now, I'm going to be, like, they are kids to me. They are to me. They're 18 years old.
Starting point is 00:17:36 And kid is like, I feel like you're a kid in college. You're a man in the pros. Now, I mean, that's not to say. They're of age. Like, they're, you know, it's not, it's not about that. I mean, Antonio Reeves is older than me. It's just like, it's just, I don't know, there's just something about kid in college. It's not demeaning.
Starting point is 00:17:55 I think it's some just in your own life. Like, when I drive around campus now, I'm like, look at these children. But, you know, it's just, I think you hit a certain point of life. Everyone looks so young. Like, right now college kids look like they shouldn't be in college to me. One person writes, Matt, you, I do not believe that, you, that Darby Shire is the most anonymous player. There are lots of Billy Gillespie walk-ons you wouldn't know.
Starting point is 00:18:21 False challenge. I pride myself in knowing the Billy Gillespie walk-ons. There was like eight of them and you rattled them all off one day. Probably because we covered their commitment ceremonies. Okay, so let's do it again. We've got Jarvis Walker. Golly. Wow.
Starting point is 00:18:38 Pulling that one out first. What? You don't remember Jarvis. No, I would have never gotten that one. Yes. Ronald Williams. Yeah. You remember him?
Starting point is 00:18:48 Mark Krebs was actually started as a walk on. Okay. Pulling him out of thin air is harder. The one from LCA. What was his name? Oh, no, wait a minute. First of all, you had the kid from Pipeville. What was his name?
Starting point is 00:19:06 Landon Sloan. Landon Sloan. We had our friend Dusty Mills. Dusty Mills. There was, now wait a minute, there was one from. And then there was one from like, Louisville. What was the little white kid from Louisville's name?
Starting point is 00:19:20 Adam Delph. Adam Delf. Good call. This is when I was in school. These are the teams I remember, the Billy teams. Let me go back to the LCA. I thought there was one from LCA that walked on. I may be wrong.
Starting point is 00:19:32 Didn't one of them pass away? Actually, I think they did, but I think that was the kid from Louisville, wasn't it? Oh, maybe so. He went to, was it PRP? You may be right. I don't remember. Well, first of all, Donald Williams is my favorite obscure UK player. Remember, he came with, do you remember how he got here?
Starting point is 00:19:54 No. He was friends with Jorts. Juko teammates, aren't they? He was a package deal with Jords. Hey, I'm going to Lexington. You want to ride along? Bring your sneakers. I love the idea that in the billi era, you could just have a, can my friend be on the team, too?
Starting point is 00:20:11 Yeah, sure. Why not? I mean, what else you need? And like George, I love George, but he wasn't like a star recruit. You could be a secondary recruit, Shannon, and bring your friend on the team too. That's how it works, I guess. If you get enough pull, you can bring whoever you want to put on the team on the team. You can bring whoever you wanted to be on the roster spot.
Starting point is 00:20:30 So really, you were thinking of Sherbinski, by the way. Yes. I feel bad leaving him off. Yeah, no, we know him really well. How do we forget him? He's in coaching, I think, or he was for a long time. Is he? He was a coach.
Starting point is 00:20:42 Yeah, Matt Sherbinski. I didn't have him in the Gillespie era, but he was. Yes, no, I like him a lot. I think he stayed on, didn't he stay on for the first year, Cal year? Wasn't he sitting on the end of the bench with crabs? I don't remember. Yeah. What was Gillespie's end game?
Starting point is 00:20:59 Why did he want all these walk-ons? Practice. He said he needed the competition. There was a time we had 19 players on the team. He had a Jarvis Walker, I believe, mid-season as a walk-on. He came, he was a second semester transfer. My goodness. He was Antoine Walker's like nephew.
Starting point is 00:21:18 Yeah, that's right. There was a connection there. We're big on knowing people. If you just knew somebody, you're in. All right. So does last night's win give you more confidence for the rest of the six? Man, when they play like that, like we said, they can beat anybody. They're so fun to watch when that shot is falling.
Starting point is 00:21:40 Yes, I'm easily back on board. We're going to beat Gonzaga this weekend and steal one of these tough games on the road. May not win them both at Tennessee at Auburn, but they're going to win one of them. Yeah, I'm kind of back on board. You're totally back on board? Yeah, kind of. I got to admit it. That was just fun.
Starting point is 00:21:58 No, it was fun. Yeah. I love, Ryan's really, Shannon A feaster family. All no doubt. You know, it's like love them or hate them. It's either love or hate them depending on the minute. What about you? Vandy's so bad.
Starting point is 00:22:12 It didn't do a lot for me, but there were little things that helped. And we get to play him again, though. Yeah, we get to play again. Like, Justin Edwards is getting out of a funk. I think that will carry forward. I don't know how good he'll be, but I think he took a big step. I think we have to play Big Z. I know he fouled out.
Starting point is 00:22:29 He had 12 points, seven rebounds in 11 minutes. That's a lot. I mean, that's stuff in the box score, even if you can't stand the court. Six of those rebounds were offensive rebounds. He's so fun to watch. I don't know if it's good for the team, but you can't help but smile because something's happening. He's hitting a three or he's getting lost and fouling someone from behind and smiling while doing it. Well, yeah, the turkey understay is like a dog chasing his tail.
Starting point is 00:22:53 Like he's just kind of running around. Like there was a play where he was on offense and he got the ball. He passed. He ran over to the corner, I think, because he thought he was supposed to be there. There was no one there. Then he just ran under the basket, tapped it in. and as he's running down the court was celebrating, his man beats him down the court. His man goes up for a layup, gets blocked, he tries to get it, falls down,
Starting point is 00:23:19 chases the guy to the three-point line, comes back the basket, got hitting ahead with the basketball. And I was like, this, the kid, he's just, like, everywhere for good and back. He's all over the play. He barely played, and he's a plus 11 and almost had a double double. On a team where we're asking for rebounding, he had seven of them. of them and blocked a shot and five of seven from the field one for one from three that's i want more of him i don't know if it's good or bad but i want more you need him on the floor you're just going to have to live with some of those mistakes because you're right man he sometimes you look and he's
Starting point is 00:23:54 lost he is lost like he is way lost yeah but then he comes down and he gets a tap and dunk i like him shannon because i think he plays like i did at middlesborough oh you're compare yourself to a Kentucky carrier. Yes, I am. I'm sure there's a lot of resemblance. But here's the, not in this, I wasn't quite a skill. But my man takes every second to celebrate everything that happens, right? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:24:21 Like he gets a tap in and he's running down the court. Like, he's almost like me waving at my mom in the stands going, did you see that? Yeah. Did you see that? And then his man will score and he'll go, oh, you know, what did I do? And then the next time down the court, he gets another tap and he's like, yeah. Yeah. I like the joy he plays with.
Starting point is 00:24:40 It's fun. All right, we will take a break. Be right back. Now you can open the phones. 859-2-80-2287, KSR. T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T-J. He'll make them pay.
Starting point is 00:24:51 Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. Welcome back. TeguSports Radio. 859-280-2287. One person writes, Louisville should steal Kentucky's scheme. Bring your friend to practice. They can join the team.
Starting point is 00:25:06 Amen. They need it. They might get some more players, better players. So the young man that passed away, sadly, was Carrie Benson from Louisville. Yeah. PRP, you were right. Yes, rest in peace. Buddy Housel was Josh Heraldson's friend.
Starting point is 00:25:21 Now, that's a kid. Every person we're talking about, I can picture their face. I cannot picture Buddy Housel's face. Looking right at the photo of him that I had to use several times on the website. So you do remember what he looks like? Yes. He's the one I can't remember. Boy, the Billy Gillespie used.
Starting point is 00:25:39 And you brought up something about Matt Chibisky. I'd forgotten he went from LCA to Oak Hill to UK. To a walk on at UK. You hear that Bresumay and you're like, that kid must have been a baller. Yeah, no doubt. And you remember Donald Williams came from Old Miss. Yeah, Donald Williams. Good memories.
Starting point is 00:25:58 859-2802287. One thing I want to announce today this morning we found out for the second year in a row, Kentucky Sports Radio was named the number one midday show in the United States. Yeah. Uh-huh. How about that? Second year in a row, we topped the list. We, you know, for many years, we'd try to climb.
Starting point is 00:26:20 Dockich had it for a long time. And then there were others. And we were number one. And I'm very happy from Barrett Sports Media. They're the ones that rank it. And it's markets, like, not including the top 15. So not including, like, New York. LA, Chicago, but for markets 16 and under in the country.
Starting point is 00:26:39 In the top 20 list, Shannon, of the top 20 list of shows, we are in the smallest city of anyone in the top. Is that right? Wow. So mid-market, mid-day. Mid-market, mid-day. It sounds very mid, but we are number one. We're good.
Starting point is 00:26:51 Don't downplay our thing. It's a lot of mids. Shannon's the only person who tries to downplay our own show's success. When your contract negotiation comes, you ain't going to say it's mid. I'll tell you that. But, you know, we were number one. And then the other cities are like Columbus, Cleveland, Kansas City,
Starting point is 00:27:07 Jacksonville, Memphis, Nashville, and we were ahead of all those. I think if you're some of those cities, you've got to start looking over your shoulder because we're coming, New York City. We might be in a smaller market now, but we're only going to get bigger whoever's up there. Yeah, second place was Nashville.
Starting point is 00:27:25 You're breaking up. We can't hear you. Try it again. Second place was a guy named Buck Rising, which is a great name. for a person. I listen to a little buck because he's a Titans guy. You know, back in the day
Starting point is 00:27:40 when we were number six, number seven, we were climbing the ladder. We used to tap into the shows that were ahead of us. Now it feels mean. Well, now I think that's what they're doing to us. They're probably listening to us right now. And they're like, how do we lose to these guys?
Starting point is 00:27:51 They're reciting the walk-on. All these guys do we were talking about walk-ons from 15 years ago. How in the world do we lose to these guys? We won by a huge margin. Last year, I think we won by four votes. This year, we won by 26 votes. We covered.
Starting point is 00:28:04 I mean, some people are going to say rankings don't matter, but for me right now, I'm a little kid, and this matters. This is a big deal, and I'm kind of proud of us right now. Now, with all that said, Shannon, I am about tired of these outlets and the pictures they choose to use of me. I'm looking at the one. This picture, first of all, whenever they took that had to be the fattest I've ever been. I mean, look at that. Oh, yeah, I see it. Your nipples are sticking out.
Starting point is 00:28:31 I mean, that is, I have never been. that fat. I mean, I sure, clearly I have. Looking at the hat, I'm wearing a KS bar visor. I would have worn that. So first of all, this picture, and I remember this was the fattest stage of my life. It was like right before COVID. Yeah, probably was. Football season of 2019. That's probably the fattest of I've been. And that's, and this picture, I've never seen this picture, Shannon. Where did they even find this picture? Random fan that was there that day took it and posted it. I mean, that's just a picture. And it's like they couldn't get a bigger, like, that's got to be the biggest I've been in my life, except the famous picture from like 2009.
Starting point is 00:29:12 The beat bandy button pictures. Yeah, the beat bandy button. Yeah, it was a great picture. So first of all, this picture's awful. I don't understand why they don't use a picture of all of us. I've asked him to do that before. Like, it's not just my show. It's Kentucky Sports Radio.
Starting point is 00:29:26 Use a picture of all of us. But if he wants to use a picture of me, scroll down. All of these people have professional shots. He just uses this picture of me where I look like I just rolled out of the hen house. Jay, why do they do that to me? I don't know. I think at this point it's just a joke on you. And they used to have a picture of me that was pretty good.
Starting point is 00:29:49 And they clearly intend to not use that. And they're like, next year they're going to use that beat vandy picture. Yeah. Or the one of you on the baseline at Rupp Arena. Oh, that's the worst. Lisa's not Blaine and Mickey. Poor Blaine has a micro-Banky. phone covering his face. You can't even see who he is.
Starting point is 00:30:06 I mean, Matt's got his hand covering his own face. It doesn't help that right after you, Buck is wearing sunglasses and a turtleneck under a suit. I mean, he looks like he's going to a club in Miami. And I'm like, that's the worst picture of me I've ever seen, except beat bandy. And then all these other people keep scrolling down. All these other people have like professional photos. And then they just get one of me. Like, I'm surprised they're not in my room when I get out of bed taking the picture.
Starting point is 00:30:37 Gives us something to work for for next year. So, it's got to strive to be better. They could use the picture. They just took professional pictures of you guys in Boston. I mean, they're easily to get. We could have. No, let's use this one. This is a, I mean, I've never seen that picture of me in my life.
Starting point is 00:30:53 Could they throw in Ryan's Vegas picture, Drew's picture with the big headphones and the glasses on? Yes. The Scott Van Pelt used. No, that would be great. That's what they just need to do. Yeah. But I've seen him a group picture of us before and said, here in the future, use this. He's like, no, I want this one's better.
Starting point is 00:31:09 I have one. Thank you. Thank you. Well, congratulations to you three guys. I enjoy it. Yeah. Thank you very much. It is.
Starting point is 00:31:19 It's hard to guess my age by pictures of the last 10 years because it's all over the play. Uh-huh. Our good friend Tim Anstead texted me yesterday. You know, it's been a while since we've heard from Tim. Yeah. Former boss. I thought he wanted to catch up. No, he had just seen a picture of how fat I used to be.
Starting point is 00:31:34 It's actually a TV commercial. He's like, hey, I saw this. You used to be fat. It was like, thank you. You could talk to you too. The three of us have had wild weight fluctuations in our life, you know? Radio. You don't realize it until you see pictures like that.
Starting point is 00:31:49 And you go. At the time, you think, well, I'm okay. And then you go back and look at a picture like, ooh. Oh, wait a minute. Whoa. Yeah. So, all right, who's up first? Daniel.
Starting point is 00:31:58 Daniel. Go ahead, Daniel. Good morning, Maddie Bangs and the gang. I'm in Chapo. Go ahead, Dan. That's really funny. Go for it. That's only 15 years old.
Starting point is 00:32:12 I'm in Chapel Hill right now, and I went to the game last night. It was a pretty awesome environment, I have to say. Well, good. I'm glad. I mean, if you're a Kentucky fan, we outnumbered a road crowd, so that's pretty good. Yeah, no, the Kentucky crowd looked good in Vandy, but I would. was in Chapel Hill, the only Kentucky fan at North Carolina Clemson game. So, that was pretty cool.
Starting point is 00:32:40 Let me ask you a question. Why would you have thought I meant the North Carolina game? Because I said I was in Chapel Hill and I went to the game. Oh, I thought you meant that you were from there. Okay, got you. But go ahead. Okay. Yeah, sorry.
Starting point is 00:32:53 I'm going to drive through Durham, go to the Duke campus today, wearing all UK stuff. So pray for me there. But the North Carolina fans were pretty nice, actually, in the arena. So I just wanted to share that. I hope you all have a good night. Yeah, well, good. I hope I've always found Carolina to be the least good of the good arenas, but they lost at home yesterday.
Starting point is 00:33:19 Well, that's what was kind of interesting to hear him say. They thought that he said the environment there was good. Usually when we've been there, it's a wine and cheese crowd, and they were down by nine and half time. I thought they may have checked out and not been into the game at all. That's a bad loss for them. Yeah. I mean, I was kind of high on that team.
Starting point is 00:33:35 That's our good win, too. What? We need them to win. That's true, man. We need these, all these teams we play. Miami's not even going to make the tournament. Gazag is out of the tournament right now, and the North Carolina loses that game.
Starting point is 00:33:49 ACC's awful, though, this year. I mean, it is awful. Yeah, it didn't help the resume, but I feel better knowing that when we get to the tournament, all these teams have weaknesses and are flawed, have losses they don't need. It doesn't look like, I mean, Yukon's looking pretty good, but it doesn't look like there's an elite, elite,
Starting point is 00:34:05 absolutely stay away from them. Just about every team in the country has taken a loss. They shouldn't have. Yeah, Yukon. First of all, they can't win another title, can they? Especially when they rebuilt, have an injured player. Yeah, their best players hurt. I mean, their best players.
Starting point is 00:34:19 And they're the best team in the country right now, like Drew said, no doubt. Yukon cannot get another title. I mean, they just, no team takes advantage of their good teams better than the You know, as much as I hate to say it, they take advantage of it, and then they, you know, because they, they can be awful in years, but then when they're good, they take it advantage. They win it all, you know? It's annoying to me. That team really does annoy me.
Starting point is 00:34:47 Well, they're fans of the worst. I do like how much Rick Petino and Dan Hurley seem to hate each other. That's a good rivalry. I watched St. John's and DePaul last night before the Kentucky game. Rick's hair has a red tent to it now. Good for him. Yeah. My man.
Starting point is 00:35:02 He keeps. And there's no bald spot. I mean, zero. I think it's artificial maybe? It's amazing what they can do. There's a great new time and way to support Kentucky athletes. It's Kentucky rain, R.E.I.N. Great alkaline water source from natural aquifers.
Starting point is 00:35:19 They have it Kentucky brand in Lexington. They have it the BK Stop and Shop, Marathon, and Yoters Market in Flemingsburg. There you go. How about that? And Caproni's restaurant in Maysville. Yay. All right. So go to Kentucky Rain,
Starting point is 00:35:34 R-E-I-N, and the people on each bottle are athletes. Trey Mitchell, Barry on Brown, Isabella, Magnelli, Mason Moore, Brooklyn Dayleigh,
Starting point is 00:35:43 and Hadley Williams are on the bottles. Yeah, we saw them in our remote at Kentucky Brandon. They had some with all the players on the bottles. That's right. It's kind of cool.
Starting point is 00:35:51 Kentucky Rain, R-E-I-N-com. You can buy it online or the next time you're at Yoder's market, Shannon and Fleming'sburg, pick some up. I'll keep that in mind next. time I'm there. Kentucky rain, elite water for elite athletes.
Starting point is 00:36:05 Flemingsburg. They must be based. They have three places in Flemingsburg. Yeah. And then Mazeville's not that far away. Yeah, it must be where they're best. I bet they get good water there in Flemingsburg. We'll take a break and be right back. It's Kentucky Sports Radio. To talk to Matt Jones and the crew, call the Clark's Pump and Shop phone line at 859-280-2-807 or 1-800-606-4-2-63, and send us the Kentucky brandit tweet of the day by tweeting Matt at KY Sports Radio. Okay, I get all your pictures you all are sending in of what they could have used.
Starting point is 00:36:36 I appreciate it. Doof and Smurts. There's plenty of photos of him out there you could have used. Yeah. I don't think it's too much. I mean, like, if you're going to be number one, like, just a nice picture. Should we all go to the mall and get some portraits taken so we have them? Maybe so.
Starting point is 00:36:50 My Kentucky branded tweet of the day, go to Kentucky branded for UK gear and KSR gear is, Matt, you know Shannon sent that in. Every year he's going to send a worse one until he sends the picture of your boat. I still got that saved on my phone. I know. We can put it out there anytime. You know, we were talking about that. We were talking about that day when I was at home for Christmas,
Starting point is 00:37:12 and I was talking about all the things that happened that day. It was just a terrible day. And I was talking about the fall. And I was like, it really was. I was in so much pain. And I was like, and I turned in my butt turned purple. And it went all the way down my leg. And I said, and my mom goes,
Starting point is 00:37:29 and Shannon has the picture. And I said, yeah, she does. And I said, here, have you ever seen it? And I was going to show it to her. And my mother, the person that birthed me looked and said, oh, I don't want to see that. I'm looking at it right now. It's a nasty picture. But that's the person who brought me into the world.
Starting point is 00:37:48 And even she, Drew, was like, oh, I don't want to see that. It was that bad. Shannon is the only one that can have that. You have that bond with Shannon. You ever seen a worst bruise, Shannon? No, your left butt cheek looks like a. man with like a horseshoe like you know bald on the top and then got the horseshoe around it that's the way it looks like you can see like all the black and then like just a
Starting point is 00:38:10 bald patch yeah it was oh i'm sorry it hurts so much i mean i let's use that picture next year yeah 859 2802807 one person writes matt adam delth is not only still alive he won the church league championship at ormsby Heights Baptist Church Friday night. Still balling. Had a boy. I would hope so, though. I feel like if you played at UK, you need to win the Ormbee Heights Baptist Church
Starting point is 00:38:41 Church League. If you play at UK and don't win the Ormsby Heights Baptist Church League, then that's really a reflection on you, I think. The thing about walk-ons, they're usually not bringing athleticism to Kentucky. So sometimes they don't hit their prime till the church leagues. They don't lose that jumper. and I hear a tale as a former walk-on, just running people out of church leagues all over the state.
Starting point is 00:39:03 Yes. One person writes, Matt, Antonio Reeves is a great transfer. He's he the best transfer in UK history. Probably not, but let's rank the best transfers in UK history. All right, so I'm just off the top of my head when I think of guys who were great transfers. Kyle Macy. Yep.
Starting point is 00:39:22 Oscar. Oscar. Derek Anderson. And then who else? Ashimu Evans. Great. Might put him a notch below those guys, but very, very good. Travis Ford?
Starting point is 00:39:39 Travis Ford's a good one. Yeah, no doubt. He's on the starting team. There's a lot of guys that second tier, Davian Mintz. I would say, all right, let's do Cal Era. Oscar 1, Antonio 2? Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:39:54 By a mile. Yeah. Is there anybody? Who's three? Is three like Julius Mays? Then you got a little Reed Travis. Trey Mitchell's got to be in that conversation probably. I'm going to put Julius Mays over both those.
Starting point is 00:40:05 He carried that 23rd game team. Yeah. Jacob Toppin, Nate Sistina, Kell and Grady. Reed Travis. There's been a bunch. I'm going to say Julius Mays because that team, once Nerlin's in out, he was their best player. He ended up being lean scored, wasn't he? I think so.
Starting point is 00:40:21 Patrick Sparks, did we say him? Oh, Sparks is good. That's a good one. All right. So let's do top five all times. I'm going to go from the names we've mentioned. Well, Oscar was national player. It's got to be Oscar.
Starting point is 00:40:34 Oscar's one. I mean, because he was national player of the year. So I'm going to go Oscar, Macy, Anderson, Ford, we need another one. Reeves. That's a good lineup. Did you say Anderson and yours? Anderson, Ford.
Starting point is 00:40:56 I mean, you could make a case for Sparks over Reeves, but I'm going to take Reeves for now. I think so. Anybody else? I can't think of any other. Make sure we don't miss any of us. Pope was. Pope was very good.
Starting point is 00:41:09 I put him below those guys, but he's definitely in that list of guys we mentioned. He's on the bench. I think you could make a case for Sparks over Reeves, but I'm going to take Reeves. So I'm going to go Oscar, Macy, Anderson, Ford, Louise. That's a good lineup. That's a good lineup. I like that. Not far behind is Michael Mulder out of Vincent's Junior College.
Starting point is 00:41:37 You love Michael Mulder. Who's next? Richard. Richard. Go ahead, Richard. I was tickled. Me too. I was tickled. They've done what they needed to do. Appreciate it. No, I agree. I'm happy for him, too. Both those guys, especially Justin Edwards. He needed a game.
Starting point is 00:42:15 Yeah. It was clear that kid had serious confidence issues, and I think that was a big step for him to have a good game. 859-280-2287. Couple open lines. I'm hoping that windmill dunk was almost like closing the book on whatever funk he was in. Like that was his coming out moment. And I just take away his dunk. That one play where he was like kind of on the left wing,
Starting point is 00:42:38 he took like one dribble to the middle of the floor and then just like two dribble straight to the basket. I'm like, dude, where's that been all year? You know, he went strong to the basket a couple times? Do you agree with Richard that if Z had played, they would have done better in the other or two games? I don't think so. I mean, that was a good place for him last night to get lost and not really kill himself. He's also going to foul out any game replays.
Starting point is 00:43:00 Yeah. And the, as a Florida, Ugo was so good and in a loss. I mean, I don't, it's true. I mean, I don't know what he would have changed because Ugo deserved a win in that Florida game. Yeah. You know, I do think Z would have fit him well with the Tennessee game just because it was such a free-flowing game.
Starting point is 00:43:18 So I think if he had not been sick, Cal said last night he's been sick. ever since the Georgia game. Do we need to get his immune system looked at, Shannon? I feel like there's been a lot of sickness. Yeah, do they not have like any sickness in Croatia? Like, that we just have all sickness in America? Well, they say that, like, you know, it can take a while for people's appetites to adjust. But he was here since October.
Starting point is 00:43:42 I asked him specifically at Media Day about food in Kentucky, and he said he loved it, no problems, nothing new. I mean, that have video of him talking about how he likes all the food in Kentucky. But then Rob had a sickness. Trey is sick. Do we need to consider changing shifts? Hand sanitizer at the very next. That private chef over there could probably make Z, whatever he needs,
Starting point is 00:44:03 whatever he wants at any time. Yeah. Well, hopefully he is on track. I will say, I think it's always going to be burst the way he plays. Yeah. But the burst can be good, as we saw last night. A couple of the lines, 859-280-22. We'll take a break.
