Now, here's Matt Jones.
It's Kentucky Sports Radio here live at Whiskey Thief Distillery
on the edge of Shelby and Franklin County.
I tell you what, give me a loud hello to everybody
on this cold morning in Shelby County or Franklin County,
depending on who you ask.
Wow.
There we go.
thief distillery. It is great day. Great crowd here. Getting ready for UK and Gizaga. You can give
a shout to the Clark's Pump and Shop phone line 859-2-80-2-827. A Vision Auto Glass Text Machine is 772-7-7-4-2-5-254 in this
edition. Sponsored by the T.J. Smith-Lawvis. If you call T.J. He'll make them pay. First of all,
great crowd out here. It's a little chilly. It's colder here than when I left Louisville,
but the place is even more full than it's been the last few times. Great fans out here. And the
50 got a KSR Whiskey Thief glass, Ryan Lemon, which is very nice.
Congrats to those.
I'd like to have one of those.
Well, I think one of those is for you.
I think there's one for each of us.
Nice.
But if you have to do the liquid in this.
Yeah, that'll warm you up.
You say you were cold.
Just have a little sip of that.
But Whiskey Thief is that we're giving away prizes here.
They got great food.
They gave us a, what is this, a hot brown breakfast sandwich, which I never had, Drew, but
was very good.
I hadn't either.
It lasted about two seconds.
Now I'm ready to move on to the other things on the menu.
Ryan, you ate all of it in about eight seconds.
How's the diet going?
Well, we took a TV time out for the diet,
and once I took one bite of that sandwich,
I'm like, I'm eating every bit of this.
It is outstanding.
Yes, well, it is great.
And for those folks, if you come here,
it's right there off exit 48 off the interstate.
If you come here, you will get this free tasting
after it's over and a tour,
and they got all kinds of stuff.
And Shannon, it's nice to be here.
I love coming to this place.
Now, if you remember last time, it was very loud over there.
You remember?
You scolded it some people.
I didn't scold them.
I did.
I did not.
I was just like it's too loud.
And they said, we won't, we won't.
But now there was a tour that got in.
So those people over there, if they're too loud, I'm going and wrestling them before this thing.
Yeah, we may have to do that.
Usually a rowdy crowd because as we're doing the show, they're going around with the whiskey
thief and filling up everybody's sniffers.
not sifters, as I was calling it during the pre-show.
Is that what it's called a sniffter?
That's a sniffer.
Okay, you sniff.
Yeah, I think so.
But yeah, always one of our most fun shows to do.
So glad to be here.
It's great.
I'd like to thank all of you for writing me and congratulating me on changing the battery on my snowmoke detector.
All night long was having people give me other tasks.
They thought I might be able to complete.
They were wrong about all of them.
I feel like I did one, and that's all I need to do.
Could you change your air filter in your house, like in your furnace?
Okay, so first of all, I know you want to play this game.
Like, could you do things?
Okay, so.
Yeah, I think we know the answer already.
Now, the answer to this question, can I do it without going on YouTube and doing a how-to video?
Yes.
So tell me what the question was on?
Okay, so like your furnace has an air filter.
I don't know where my furnace is.
Oh, my God.
I would love to see the air filter.
It's probably black and charred.
So let's go ahead and say,
No to that one. Now give me another one.
You should look into that.
Have you really not changed your filter and your Louisville place you've been in for 15 years?
I mean, I think like once every three years I'm like, well, you just come and do the things people do.
And so I would assume they've done that.
Could you change the direction of your ceiling fan?
Oh, no.
There's literally just a little switch.
Well, why would I want to do that?
Because in the summer, you're supposed to push the air.
I think it is down.
Oh, I remember hearing that.
Yes.
Does anybody do that?
Yeah, everybody.
Right after I change my filters.
All right.
Could you change the tire?
No, but I could, like, get close.
I think I could get close.
I could start the process.
The thing I worry about is where to put the pump, or the lift.
Because they say if you put it in the wrong place, you can fall on you.
You can fall on you.
You don't want to do that.
I'm always very, I don't know 100% where to do that.
The first time I did it, mine fell off and actually rolled down the side of the highway a little bit.
So I understand what they mean, but I make sure you're doing it right.
So what else?
Because I can do the, I used to have an air conditioner.
I could change that filter.
Okay.
You know, there's a story you've debated that you called Max about how to turn the oven on that one.
That's a lie.
He lies about that.
Max is lying about that.
I did not ask him how to turn the oven on.
He, he, he, that Australian makes that up.
That didn't happen.
I know how to turn the oven on.
I'll think of some more as we go throughout the show.
If you have any questions, you can ask me, 7-7-2-7-4-5-254.
But I am very proud about the smoke detector.
And if any of you have one and you need it looked at,
you just let me know, Drew, and I'll come take care of it.
This morning I had a Matt moment.
I laughed out loud.
My beard trimmer died and I needed a battery.
I had like half of a beard.
And I thought, am I about to dorsh a battery right after Matt just did it?
But luckily, I found one downstairs.
But it crossed my mind.
Everybody made fun of it.
the thing how much would two
i know what i paid
so how much do two
nine volt batteries like a
nice battery brand how much would that
cost seven or eight dollars
okay
mom was a little more than that but it was
it was worth it to not get out that you got the gas
the environmental impact
you're basically a fire marshal now
the way i see it i mean you can change you know
a lot of people are listening i can see this woman right here she's listening like you
need a wife. I can tell that on your face and I'm not saying you're wrong.
I just I a frozen pizza you can do that right frozen pizza I don't 859 288
859280 2287 Kentucky and Gonzaga this is a game we've looked forward to for a couple
years since they announced this series the idea of getting a February home game against a team
never played Rupp Arena. Gonzaga's never been in Rupp Arena. We got destroyed by him last year but that was
early in the season, and now we get them at home this year.
It's not Ryan the same Gonzaga team that they've been the last few years.
We've probably got the worst Gonzaga team of the last 15 years coming,
but I've got to be honest with you, we need a victory.
So, like, it's not the worst thing in the world, maybe not to get one of their powerhouse groups.
See, I'm kind of that route.
You know, it's still, to me, that's a sexy name on the schedule.
That's Gonzaggart.
They're not as strong as they've been the last, like you said, 15 years.
But that's still Gonzaga.
And for Kentucky to go and interrupt tomorrow and win this game, to me, even though Gonzaga is not as strong as easily are, it's still a huge win.
You think it's a huge win?
I think if they win it's a huge win to beat a name school at home, break the two-game home losing streak, and get Gonzaga.
I'm not going that far.
I mean, it's important to keep the – I mean, if you're just looking like at our tournament resume, the game Tuesday night against Ole Miss will be better for our –
our resume than the Gonzaga game. So just to give you a sense of where Gonzaga is, if you were to rank
the teams in the SEC on the Ken Palm, there's 14 teams, they're probably 11th or 10. So you're
looking at, it's like you're playing Old Miss or Mississippi State. With that said, Drew, we got to win.
So on that respect, I agree. As fun as Tuesday was, I mean, that was Vanderbilt. I feel like we still
need to stop the bleeding a little bit at home, having just lost two there, never lost three in a row at Rupp.
Gonzaga, they're in desperation mode.
I think a quad one game for both teams.
They don't have any.
Kentucky needs more.
I mean, they're going to show up.
I'm not going to say like Tennessee like they were out of the gate.
But I do think they're going to show up fired up because this is kind of their last shot to make a statement for the tournament.
Yeah, they're probably, it's probably going to be impossible for them to get an out-large anyway.
But if they want to have even a small chance, they have to win this game and then they go to St. Mary's.
They'd probably have to win both of them to have a shot.
also they're going to be excited. I mean,
Gonzaga, this is a CBS game.
Yeah. That's another thing. Not an ESPN game, a CBS game
on Super Bowl weekends. So there's going to be a lot of
C. The Super Bowl is on CBS. So there's a lot of sort of,
I think there'll be a lot of eyeballs, Shannon, on this Kentucky team.
You know, the thing people don't realize is the CBS and the Fox games,
they get higher ratings than the ESPN game. So this will probably be
our most watched game of the season this.
Saturday nationally in terms of writing.
I love these February non-conference games.
And to play against Gonzaga, I love that series.
It's going to be like you guys said.
I mean, it's a win that both teams really need for the NCAA tournament coming up.
And Kentucky's two and four against Quad-1 teams.
Gonzaga's top two scores are a couple of big guys.
So I think maybe this could be a good opportunity for Onenzzo to show off his defensive skills.
I was talking to somebody who's in the college basketball world, a coach who said to me,
You know, Matt, it's weird because I think Kentucky is both better in some ways and worse in some ways that people realize.
Basically, like, any team that Kentucky can outscore anybody, but they are vulnerable to a team that's not as good as them that can beat them on the glass, using the example of A&M.
Gonzaga could do that because they are big, their two best players are bigs.
They are, but they like to play fast like Kentucky does, though.
So even though they're...
We're better at that.
And so I think tomorrow score could be in the 90s, you know, with both teams,
even though they have the two big guys that do a lot of their scoring.
What will be interesting about that is Gonzaga has not lost a game where they've scored 80 points or more.
And with Kentucky playing fast pace...
But they haven't played anybody like that.
That's true.
That's true.
You know, they also, they're non-com.
I mean, they lost, I think, to Yukon and the game was never close.
I think I believe I'm correct.
I think they were down 25 and, like, never were any.
I think, Drew, we should handle this pretty well.
And I think it'll be a great Rup environment.
I do.
I think a lot of people, when the schedule came out, this was the ticket they wanted.
It was this one in Tennessee.
And so I think we'll also have a great environment.
I'm feeling good going into it.
I know the mood of BBN's down a little bit, but I'm hopeful Rupp Arena will still be at its best.
I love the matchup.
Gonzaga led the country in offense the last five years.
This year, they surrendered that to Kentucky.
I mean, Mark Few plays a very.
fast-paced, high-scoring brand of basketball,
and I think hopefully Kentucky's on the right side of it,
but whichever way it comes out,
I think it's going to be a fun fast-paced game.
Yeah, I do too as well.
Now, Cal ended up doing his coach's show Wednesday night,
and I actually didn't get to hear it, Shannon, until Thursday, really.
I didn't get to hear his comments.
And it was clear, and if you listen to the show,
it was clear, as they would say,
he came with the receipts, right?
Like he came and he sort of went over all of the criticisms that people have had, some of which I've articulated, but some of which I have it, just various criticisms people have had.
And he was like point by point giving his rebuttal.
And I thought some of the rebuttals were really strong, some of them less so.
But it is clear.
And this is, this I like.
The best cow is a mad cow.
Not mad cow.
That's a disease.
I've known Cal pretty well over the years through 2019.
I talk to him all the time.
I've always known this about him,
and the people that know him the best will tell you this.
He is at his best when he wants to prove people wrong.
He is very much motivated by slights.
He's very much, for all the talk is I don't listen to the clutter.
That couldn't be more of a lie.
He listens to it all.
but it also motivates him.
And when I was listening to him, Drew, and I was listening to him go,
and, you know, in 2017 and, like, reading all this stuff, I was thinking,
that's a dude that is really wanting to prove people wrong,
like really wanting to prove people wrong.
And I actually was thinking, okay, now that's the cow that usually has the best success.
Yeah, I heard most of the show.
He was on the defense, he even said something like,
I know people are out there saying I'm the worst coach in the country.
No one's saying that.
Yeah, no one's saying that.
but it's clear he's kind of standing up for himself.
And he's also said, as long as it's on me and not my players.
Which he's always taken advantage.
He said that for a long time.
He's always taken advantage.
He is making a point to stand up there.
Yeah, I mean, he said that, you know, there are members of our media saying,
I'm the worst coach of all.
There's no, there's no member of the media saying that.
I'm certainly not saying that.
But I do think when I was, you know, without revealing too much of conversations of the past,
I always knew he was most ready.
to go after it when he had the
well then he said this and I'm showing
him this and this like back in the
day and you
you can guess who the people were
he used to just bam bam
and you'd go man dude it's just gonna be
all right well now
he's doing that again and it's weird
I think for the fans and for me
and for KSR to sometimes be on the other side
of it but it is probably the thing
that motivates him the best
so when I saw that I said
that's a dude who's all
on trying to win this year because he wants to show people in his mind that he did it his way and it was right.
So I hope it happens and Saturday would be a good one to start it going.

I always say facts are optional.
Here's one of the ways they're optional.
I didn't realize this because they're not in the projected mock drafts.
Gonzaga is actually ahead of us in the Kempom, which if Gonzaga,
you know, Gonzaga is not in the Mock drafts,
but they're number 22 in the Kempom, Drew,
I would think that would be the highest ranked team ever in the Kempom not to make the tournament,
don't you think?
Yeah, Lennardi has him as a bubble, but like, you know, he's got his next four,
his first four.
They're the third group outside of that.
So it's still unlikely.
But, I mean, they have a decent resume.
I think their losses are like San Diego.
They have a few.
St. Mary's is good, but they have a few that are really weighing them down.
Yeah, and they didn't win any of their, like, marquee non-conference games,
which is partially why they have to do it here.
They're going to be hungry tomorrow.
One person writes, Matt, did Ryan drive by the Lucille Clark's Puppet Shop?
And how many people told him yesterday he was wrong?
I absolutely drove past it because I wanted to see, how is this on Lucille?
But it is Lucille extended.
They kind of made a new road and it's then out there and it is open.
I drove by it this morning.
So I.
So get your walking shoes.
Rick at Clark's pumping shop is very excited about this.
So here's what we're going to do.
I just picked a random date because then you add in the factor, Shannon, of like the elements.
Yeah.
Right?
We'll see what the elements are that day.
February the 21st.
So that is a week from Valentine's Day.
It's a Wednesday.
You will start the show at the bar and you will walk the fourth.
point seven nine miles to Lucille Drive to finish the show at Lucille Drive at the
Clark's Pump and shop so that you'll know it's it's there and then I talked to
him they're gonna let you work for a little while that afternoon oh like a
cashier let him work for like an hour as a cashier at the Clark's pumping shop
on Lucille Drive which I think if you think about it Shannon is yeah it's very nice
to let you do that that way you won't ever forget where it is well I can
pump some gas maybe wash some windshields out there no I mean we'll let you work inside like
you can like work the cash register something they'll have to have somebody to help you because
you're a trainee yeah but uh but I I do think it'll be a good a good thing for you I mapped out my
route yesterday where I can go and you know there's a new donut shop like right in the middle I can
stop by get a donut in the middle my walk out there so I just love how confident you were that that
definitely did not exist didn't he was it did not exist just popped up it was a
pop-up story. I've never seen anyone so confident in being wrong. Like you were,
you were as confident as I've ever heard, and you were completely and totally wrong.
Because they were talking about a new one out there. Well, that's the one where I was talking about,
that's citation in Sandysville Road. The one, their building, one, I didn't think it was open,
and two, I thought there's no way that's on Lucy. You didn't think. That's what you get for thinking.
And it's newer than the one you're talking about. I don't know about that. But you just said they're building it. So clearly it's newer.
I'm not asking them anything about Clark's,
We want him running the register.
Yeah, so he will be, that'll be the 21st.
Okay, your walk.
And she's on.
All right, the Super Bowl is Sunday.
We'll talk about the game later on, but let's talk about the important things.
Reba McIntyre is singing the national anthem.
Yeah.
That's unfortunate.
I'll boo her.
That's unfortunate for society, but she's doing it.
The over-under on how long the national anthem is going to take for her is 90 seconds.
That's where they've said it.
90 seconds.
Now, to give you some perspective, Chris Stapleton last year went two minutes and 50,
two minutes and five seconds.
But the last time Reba sang a national anthem in an event, it was a minute and 26 seconds.
So her regular national anthem was four seconds less.
Do you think she adds Shannon a little for the Super Bowl and goes four more seconds,
or does Reba just do Reba things and stay under?
She's a little older now.
I think when you get older, you get slow.
right so naturally I think that maybe wait a minute wow wait whoa oh sounds like
that hit a little too close to home for some of you out there huh the heel
manager's coming through I think that she goes over because she's lost this
are you looking at my president Joe Biden and tell me he's gotten slower as he's
gotten older are you gonna try to make that point to me I am making that point
All right.
Yes.
So I'm going to say she goes over.
She goes over.
Sorry, old people.
You're the one calling yourself old.
I didn't say you're old.
All right.
Nice start, shit.
Drew.
You know, I've been really conflicted on which way I'm going to go here.
But I think what's going to push me towards the under is you got to remember where this is.
This is Vegas.
She's going to get in at God knows what hour.
That voice is going to be lost.
She's going to be very hungover and she's going to want to get off that stage and out of the way.
So I'm going under.
You're going under, right, Ryan?
Over under a minute.
30 for Reba's National Anthem.
I think she's going to try to savor the moment as much as possible,
so I'm going to go over, but not by much, but a little over.
Yeah, I'm going to go under.
I think she gets, I think she goes quick.
Remember, it starts when she says, oh, say, like, that's when it starts.
So you can time it.
I'm going to say under, you know, she doesn't do the verbal gymnastics.
A lot of people do.
So I think she's going to go under.
And somebody was listening to the one where she got a minute 26,
and they said she was a little fancy for that one.
and it only went to a minute 26.
So I think we go on.
Big moment, though.
You've got to make sure you don't screw up any of the words.
Maybe you've got to take your time, you know,
because if you rush through it,
maybe you have to slip up and then you're criticized forever because of that.
Ask Justin Timberlake and Janet Jackson about that.
I think the hotline you read is for people who go watch old national anthems in time.
I didn't do it.
No, I know.
But the people who do that, that might be,
you might want to take a couple plays off on your gambling if you're that deep into it.
I would agree.
Who's up first?
Got John up first.
John, go ahead, John.
Hey, how are you all doing?
Doing good.
What's up?
Yes, I've renewed my season's
for U.K. football, basically a hero.
But my question today is, about
have you guys read the parable of the sadu yet?
I have.
Did you read it?
I read it.
I read it.
But it's so long ago.
I already forgot what it was about.
We will get back to that because I do want to talk about it,
but today is probably not the day
with all these people at Whiskey Thief.
Fair enough, man.
y'all have a great day
I did not expect that would
be the first call you know what I actually
never have any idea what people are going to call
about and that was not what I expected
what's next got Aubrey
up next Aubrey go ahead Aubrey
I am the young girl that was
dropped at the UK game
oh
dancing guy now wait a bit for people who don't know
it was eight years ago
today
that dancing guy
dropped the girl at the UK basketball game.
And Aubrey, you're saying you're the girl now woman who was dropped?
Yes.
Aubrey, how old are you now?
I'm 18.
So you're 18.
Okay, so, well, I only have a minute, so I got to get this.
What do you think about the fact that, like, you're brought up every year as this thing
where you were dropped?
Well, nobody really talked about it recently, but now.
I'm getting blamed for Kentucky not making it to the final four since then.
First of all, it is certainly not your fault.
Everything went downhill from you.
You did nothing wrong.
Are you there?
Yes.
So do you think dancing guy should be allowed to dance again?
Yes, I actually asked if he could whenever the situation happened.
And they wouldn't allow them.
Well, that's a good point.
If Aubrey can forgive.
Let me ask you, Aubrey, I only got 10 seconds.
Did it hurt when you got dropped?
Yeah, yeah, it did.
It's tough.
Way to hang in there.
It's nice to hear from you, Aubrey.
It's not your fault.
We haven't been to a final four.
We'll take a break and be right back.

It is National Pizza Day, fellas.
So everybody should have a pizza today for your national pizza day.
Quick question for you.
We do this every so often.
So I want one recommendation.
You've got to pick one place.
Best piece of pizza in Kentucky is where, Shannon?
In my opinion?
No, of course your opinion.
Jets.
I love Jets pizza. Jets is Detroit-style pizza.
You get the turbo crust on there, loaded up, and eight-corn.
Jets, yes.
In my opinion, it's the best.
That's one of the craziest things I've ever heard.
Of all the places, you're going with you in.
You hear that, Jets?
That's an endorsement opportunity.
All right, Drew.
I have a routine I do for away games where I'm watching the game at home, not going to Rupp.
When we finish the pregame show on my way home, I pull into Mad,
mushroom just like I'm back in college and get those cheese sticks, the beautiful ranch that they
make in house, and then a pizza and go home. And that's my, uh, kind of my superstition for Kentucky
games at home. So I'm going with mad mushroom here. Wow. The palates. All right, what do you
got? If I'm talking Lexington, my favorite is Joe Bologna. State. Joe, Joe Bologna's, no doubt.
That's my go-toe if we're going out for pizza. But remember we did a show in Central City and that place
was called, I think, Scalions, where it was like three inches thick. Skillians. Stout. Stout.
All those, Stelians, regardless.
Do you remember the pizza was like that thick?
It was, we could barely get through one piece of it.
All right, well, there you go.
So what's yours?
I like sort of trashy but good pizza.
So like, so I have to tell you.
Bonnie and Clydes out on Dixie Highway is up there for me in Louisville.
Here's the problem.
The old guy that runs it is the most cantankerous fellow in the entire United States.
Isn't he?
I went in there one time.
This is a true story.
This was just a few weeks ago.
It was after the Rumble.
Yeah.
Okay, after the W.W.
Rumble.
I go in there and listen, I understand that restaurants late at night, like, you know, people
kind of want to go home.
And so I get it.
Restaurant closes at 11.
We get out there, it's like 10, 10, 15.
No one else is in there.
Now, I understand.
If they want to go home, I'm cool with it.
So I walk up to him.
There's no one in there but one kid and him.
And he's standing there.
And if you've ever been to buy him,
Bonnie Clyde, you know this dude, right?
Like, he just sits, he stands there and he looks like he wants to murder you the second you walk in.
And I look at him and go, hey, you know, I'm trying to be overly nice.
I'm like, hey, man, I don't want to bother you.
Are you guys open?
And he goes, I'm standing here, I ain't I?
I was like, okay.
So can I order?
Well, of course you can order.
And I'm like, I feel like he.
already hates me moments in but ordered it was awesome made with love right and it's it's it's
very like you literally can feel the cigarette ash when you walk in the door but I think that makes
it good I think it like combines in there shan you get to pay extra for that top I think you
have to look there you're gonna have to wash your clothes you just have to understand that
you're gonna have to wash your clothes but I would say for just a
sort of trashy good slice.
I'm going to Bonnie and Clouds on Dixie.
I've never been there before, but that's a good recommendation for Loebel.
Just know, the dude's going to yell at you.
What a ringing endorsement.
It smells terrible.
You get yelled at it.
That smells terrible.
It's more just like there's a grime in the air that makes it good.
859-28027.
If you've been listening to this show, you've heard us tell the story about the 2012 U.K.
basketball team. I mean, you remember they won the title, but there was another story
about how in the preseason they played the Oklahoma City Thunder, right? And it's become kind of
an urban legend. The Thunder were in town. It had Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, those guys.
And it turns out that the UK basketball team, they challenge them to a game, they beat
them. Marcus Teague talks a lot of trash, and he gives the famous line, we is Kentucky, we don't
give no blanks.
And we talked about how that was like an attitude.
Well, what I'd never heard is Marcus Teague went on a podcast and he tells the story.
He tells the first time I've ever heard the story.
I tweeted it out.
He tells the story of that game.
He says, and I didn't know this, Drew, LeBron was there.
It was the Oklahoma City Thunder and LeBron and Rondo.
So it was the Oklahoma City Thunder, LeBron Rondo.
Cali Perry made the 2012 team.
play against these guys for two straight days.
And Marcus Teague tells the story, I won't spoil it.
I'd like to play it on the air, but there are way too many cuss words for me to be able to
play it on the air.
But it just proves that sort of urban legend thing, Drew, happened.
That was such a bizarre time when the lockout was going on and it felt like half the NBA
was just in Lexington.
We were around for a lot of the stuff, not these scrimmages he talks about, but it was
just weird seeing Kentucky's freshmen who we didn't even really know at the time.
I'm just walking around, cutting up with these NBA stars.
And talking trash.
Talking lots of trash.
One of the things Marcus Teague says is that,
is that,
now this is Marcus Teague's side of the story.
He says LeBron went to Cal and said,
you got to tell your guys to stop talking so much trash.
We're trying to help them.
And Cal told the UK guys stop talking trash.
So Terrence Jones said, well, if I can't talk trash,
I'm not playing with them at all.
and he stayed in his dorm room.
And I guess the NBA player Josh Smith got mad.
And Josh Smith went and dragged Terrence Jones out of his dorm room, made him play.
And according to Marcus Teague, Terrence Jones went off for like 40 against Josh Smith.
And goes, that's what you get for getting me out of bed.
Which I think is a great story.
But also shows the mentality, Ryan, of that team.
and kind of how confident they were.
I had never heard those stories about LeBron.
I had not heard the story about Terrence Jones.
But you're right.
That team, as talented as they were, they had a chip on their shoulder.
And they're like, you know, they almost felt disrespecting
even they were so highly recruited and highly touted coming to Kentucky.
Here's the part of the story, Shannon, that Drew has never said.
Drew got a phone call and was asked to throw a party.
They said the Oklahoma City Thunder needs something to do tonight, Lexington.
Will you set up a party for him?
and Drew became the Oklahoma City Thunder party party.
Is that right?
I didn't go how to throw a party.
I did a good one.
To be fair, he did.
The only people allowed in there were basically the team,
Drew, me,
and then pretty much every woman in Lexington
that was interested in showing up.
Nice.
I'll reveal a secret now because it's been so long.
Let me just finish.
I'm just going to go ahead and tell you
it was one of the wildest scenes I've ever seen in Lexington,
and we'll just leave it at that.
We go ahead. There's some story. We can't talk about the door, but, uh, you know.
I did call a local wing restaurant. It was like, I need as many people as you have that are not working tonight.
You come to this NBA party.
So drew through. There was a pretty awesome NBA party in Lexington. I'm not going to lie to you.
Don't trip over all these names I'm about to drop. This feels dumb saying this. But I looked up when I was in a room with like Durant, Hardin, Westbrook.
And I'm there's me with my wall and cousins. And I'm just like, why am I here? I'm supposed to be at Tin Roof.
And just all these guys were in Lexington. That's what.
made it so weird.
These places I'm used to just being in with my friends and you look around like the NBA
also game.
Durant Harden, Westbrook, Wall Cousins Blitz, so.
Jack Randolph smelled like the devil's letters.
Randolph, Josh Smith, Nazi, like all these dudes.
And then Drew walking around going, hey, everybody having a good time?
Awkward part, though, when the bill came, those guys thought I was also helping with that either.
And I was not helping with that.
Who's up next?
got Brian up next
Brian go ahead Brian
what's up guys
what's going on
sorry to Aubrey it sounds like she's been hurt through all this too
and I didn't know if anybody ever
that made the connection that Richie Farmer played
against cutter Bowley's dad in the state tournament
in 19th I don't know 86 or 7
I can't remember what you know that right
you'd be the person that would know that
yes Scott Bowley actually talked to me about
not long ago about the fact that they
the Roo County he played for Luroo County
made it to the sweet 16 but they made it and they had to play against richie farmer huh i didn't know
know that go ahead sir that's pretty much all i had to talk about that the most famous i think
cutter is now past ablincoln is the most famous person from hardinville and i guess that's all i got
that's quite a move i appreciate the call appreciate the call i i i've said this earlier and i mean
this i'm not just trying to do promotion for the khs s w a this has a chance to be one of the best sweet
16s of all time this year. I mean, because you look at it, there are like 15 good teams in the
state. Unlike most years, they're in like 15 different regions. So you could get it like,
normally the 10 best teams, eight of them are in either Lexington or Louisville. Now they're
spread out all over the state. The best team might be Lexington Catholic, but there's a lot of
good teams. And then you got Lyon County, Harlan County, all these teams. I think, do you agree
with me this as a chance to be like one of the best sweet 16s ever?
I've been preaching this for five years.
I said keep waiting for this 20-25 class.
Because even though it's going to be good this year, you wait until next year.
It's even better because a lot of these great top players in the state are juniors this year.
And they're spread out.
They're spread out all over the state.
They're not just at one school.
And I think that makes it, you know, normally you go to Sweet 16.
There's like three or four good teams and you wait until they get paired up.
I think this year all the games are going to be really, really good.
Can I say one more thing about high school or you need to go?
No, go ahead.
Take your time.
It's your world.
The best high school athlete this state has ever produced is standing right there.
Roni Robinson from Frankfurt is the best high school athlete Kentucky has ever produced.
Tell people why.
That's a strong statement.
We've had a ton of great athletes.
Why do you got Roni Robinson?
He was a favorite to win Mr. Football.
He was a favorite to win Mr. Basketball.
He could have gone Division I in either sport and played both sports at any Division I school.
He was an outstanding, outstanding athlete.
Stain Allie.
And it's great to see you again, Roney.
I'm glad you're doing well.
Great to see you, Ronnie.
Roney.
We will take a break and be right back here at Whiskey Thief.
This is Kentucky Sports Radio.
Welcome back.
It is Kentucky Sports Radio here live at Whiskey Thief.
They are the first and only distillery to invite every customer to taste bourbon
straight out of the barrel.
Go straight in with the Whiskey Thief and get it.
127 acres here in Franklin County.
They grow their own corn used in their bourbon.
That seems good.
It's like farm to table.
Yeah, grow your own corn.
I think that would be nice.
That's another thing I don't know how to do.
You don't have plant seeds?
It's pretty straightforward.
Boyberson writes, Matt, do you know how to clean out the lint of your dryer?
Yes, I could do that.
Yeah, that'll cause a fire if you don't do that.
I definitely clean the lint out of the dryer.
I take it, and I get it, and then I throw it behind the dryer
and hope it'll never show itself.
There you go.
Wait, wait, wait, wait, will you throw it behind the dryer?
Well, I throw it to where.
Throw it in the garbage, maybe.
Well, there's not trash can close to there, so I throw it behind the dryer.
You don't have a trash can in there?
I got a door dash.
So then, no, here's what happens.
I had to change the dryer.
And when they brought the new dryer in and they took the old one out, there was a lot of lit back.
Oh, my.
So we got, then I threw it all.
Let's say you flip a breaker in your house, lights go out.
You know where your breaker box is?
You know how to turn that back on?
I know where it is.
Yeah.
I've never done it.
Yeah.
So I would, I think...
Call DoorDash.
Call hubby.
I think that's a hubby call.
Yeah.
Listen, everybody, I've gotten through five just for the record.
One person reminds me, Bonnie and Clyde's is cash only.
That's another thing you have to remember.
Cash only.
I'm a fan of that.
I think a cat, think about this.
In 2024, if you are a cash only place and you're still operating, that means.
that means your food is good because you are making people go out of their way to spend cash only
and nobody's doing that unless the place is good or your laundering.
But I do genuinely think that a cash only place in 2024 means the food is good.
That's right. That's a good argument. Yeah.
If you want to come here, you got to play by our rules and it's cash only.
One person writes, Matt, you like your food like you and Shannon like your women, good but
trashy that's me hey you know what that's fair point smell like smoke only take cash i'm not even
mad about it i'm not even going to be mad at a little greasy yeah it's all right i mean Confederate
railroad had a song about that right and it was i'm not going to say it was totally wrong yeah
mom's not listening uh 859 280 27 that's my kentucky branded uh call the day p j washington
was traded yesterday to Dallas.
So for the first time in his career, he's going to get to play for a good team.
You'll get to watch him on television.
Really a chance to kind of make an impact, Ryan.
And PJ Washington will be part of the playoff hunt playing with Luca and Kyrie.
Might be their third or fourth best player now.
You know, happy for him.
You know, he's been down there with Charlotte and, you know, no chance for getting to playoffs.
Now he's got a chance to kind of everybody else recognize what he's been able to do
and how much of a good player he's turned into.
He's a lot better.
He struggled a little bit this year, but he's a lot better than you probably all of you thought he was going to be how when he went to the NBA.
I mean, his first couple of years, he was a great three points year.
It's dipped a little, but he's good.
Yeah, he had a huge game just a few weeks ago.
It's just that no one pays attention to them.
I hate it broke up the duo with Nick Richards.
Who's also been better than people would have realized.
He's not to PJ's level, but he's another one that if he weren't Charlotte, I think you'd be hearing his name a little bit more.
I thought he might have got traded too, but I like that PJ is going to get a better market,
more spotlight, better teammates around him, see what he can do there.
I like that.
You know, for a long time, our guys were all in the league, but they were all on stinky teams,
so we really didn't get to see any of them.
Now, a lot of these guys, either the team's getting better or they've got traded.
And again, I know people don't focus on it, but I still don't think our fans realize how good
Shade Gilgis Alexander is.
He is going to finish maybe second in the end.
MVP vote. And I'm not sure Kentucky, have we ever had someone finished second in the MVP vote
in the NBA? I don't think Anthony Davis has. He'd be the shot, but I don't remember him doing it.
I don't think Devin Booker had. What? I don't think Jamal Mashburn ever finished second.
And the, Shane Gill is, Dan Isle was maybe the MVP of the ABA, but not the NBA. I think we got to
chance. Again, there's a trivia question. What if I told you the highest finish ever for a Kentucky
player in the MVP vote is Shea Gilgis Alexander, but that has a chance, Ryan, to happen this
year. With Embed being sitting out, now he won't probably be eligible. He's got a shot. I think you
would guess 10 guys before you may stumble onto Shay's name if you ask somebody that question. They
would have a hard time coming up with that, I think. And as the year goes on, there's going to be
a desire to not give it to Yokic for a third year in a row.
He's got a chance to win it.
As crazy as that sounds, he has a chance to be the MVP.
It's crazy what he's doing with the Thunder, a young team that's going to be good for a while.
Your point about how where Kentucky players were drafted so high, they went to crappy teams,
I just maybe two nights ago looked at the West standings and had that thought because it's Carl,
Darren Fox, Che Guehers Alexander, Booker with the Sons, finally the Kentucky players are in the mix,
in the West especially.
You have Wildcats leading most of those teams.
The playoffs this year are going to be a huge showcase for Kentucky guys.
From Maxie to Philly, Fox, Towns, Murray, Booker, and now PJ, Shay.
You're going to see more of them than you've ever seen before.
Who's up next?
Peggy is up next.
Peggy.
How are you, Peggy?
I'm good, guys.
Hey, I got a question.
Has anybody else noticed besides me that,
read used to take his hands and be like a little nut to the people that he guarded and now he doesn't do that
i haven't noticed he had five steals the other night so he's still he's still getting his hands in
there you know now he he can't stay in front of people and he's he's given a ton of defensive errors
but he also makes up for it with some steals.
But I think he's still stealing the ball, Peggy.
I don't, you know, I feel like he's still kind of doing what he was doing.
He's also playing against better dudes.
I mean, he was stealing a lot when he was playing against dudes that weren't as good.
Right.
He is stealing the ball, but his hands used to just go everywhere.
And he doesn't do that as much as he did.
Yeah.
Well, I haven't noticed that, but I'll take your word for it.
I appreciate the call.
By the way, we'll talk more about this, about the break.
Who do you think we have play tomorrow?
I mean, I kind of think, I think Trey Mitchell's unlikely to play from what I hear.
Wagner, what do we think?
I'd say unlikely.
You think he's unlikely?
Yeah.
I don't know, too.
Don't put that on the Internet.
I don't know yet.
We'll see, but I do think we're going to have some guys out again tomorrow.
We'll take a break.
