Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter.

Welcome to Hour 2 of Kentucky Sports Radio, presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now, here's Matt Jones.
Starting point is 00:02:42 Welcome back. It is our number two, Kentucky Sports Radio, 859-2802287. Come on into the KS Bar. If you get a chance for lunch or dinner today, we had a good weekend here. Good Super Bowl. nice inflatable field goal. What are we going to do with that? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:03:02 Leave it right there. It's a good little, when you walk in, like, whoa, go post there. There are go posts. 8.59-2802287. You get in. One person writes, Matt, and by the way, I heard this a lot this weekend. Matt, we need some positivity from you. There's too much negativity around basketball.
Starting point is 00:03:20 All right, you tell me what you want me to say. I mean, go team. They beat Vandy. They did beat Vandt. I mean, I'd love to say positivity. It's hard for me to be positive about, you know, Justin Edwards play has played pretty well, two straight games. I guess that's positive.
Starting point is 00:03:37 Took a little step forward. I do. I thought it did play well. I thought it did played well the other night. I do played great. DJ Wagner back on a floor on a limited role. I actually think most of our team played pretty well besides the bigs. The bigs were just terrible.
Starting point is 00:03:51 I'm ready to go back to November basketball. Me too. Go small. The team that was. up 12 on Kansas in the second half. The three seven footers, who we all of, they were not available. And I know that team lost that 12-point lead
Starting point is 00:04:04 in the game, but maybe you throw in the seven-footer when you're up 12 in that help. I don't know, but I'm ready for Trey at the five and go small and roll with that again. There's that one play, and I hate to pick on a kid, but Aaron Bradshaw didn't even realize his man had the ball. He was turning around to block him out and his dudes
Starting point is 00:04:20 got the ball. And that was a key play in the game. Yes, it was. Big, uh, it's E.K. right. I was there. I don't hear the announcement. I thought that's what it was. He could have backed Aaron Bradshaw into the parking lot and left him there if he wanted to. I mean, wherever he wanted to be on the court, it didn't matter
Starting point is 00:04:36 that Aaron Bradshaw was there. He was moving him and standing where he wanted to. What was as frustrating is, E.K. got four fouls. They brought in a dude that looked like me, Shannon, and he did the same thing. You know, he came in and did the exact same thing. This guy with like, you know, floppy hair comes in
Starting point is 00:04:52 and he does it over it. He just pushed Kentucky around. And that's, I mean, everybody knows that now. You can just push this team around and have your way with them. And Jay Wright was correct. Jay Wright said if you're, if you're not going to be able to block their shot, you've got to play in front of them. Like, stop being behind them. Being behind them is not doing us any good. And we made not one. That's why I said that that game, I said on the post game show that I thought it was coaching malpractice. We didn't make one adjustment. We didn't make one adjustment as they scored over and over and over and over and over.
Starting point is 00:05:30 And that's why I said we've seen now. Mark Few, Rick Barnes, and the Golden, the Florida coach have all kind of said that, you know. They were ready. No adjustments were made. Their game plan worked every time. And let me, I mean, let's be real. We could have gotten blown out. Reed and Reeves went off in that second half.
Starting point is 00:05:49 They both basically took it on their back and one-on-one. they scored 36 of our 50 points, the two of them. Reed had 21. Like they, we get blown out, if not for those guys kind of going off in the second half. Yeah, that 12-0 run. A lot of it was getting steals too on the other side. It's when they got some stops also. As good as Reed was, as good as Reeves was,
Starting point is 00:06:15 there better not be a game the rest of the year where he takes two three-pointers. Two-three-pointers for Antonio Reeves. That better not happen again. Okay, again, I don't understand why our offense is not based around getting, we have three guys that are shooting over 40% from three. That's a crazy number. And we don't like, shouldn't the whole offense be to get those dude shots? If the season ended today, Reeves, Shepard, and Dillingham are in the top 20 all time and three-point shooting percentage here at Kentucky. And they took eight collectively in that game.
Starting point is 00:06:55 Didn't Cal say earlier this year he wants them to take more threes? Like he thought that was going to be the... Well, they did for a long time. And then what happened? Why are not? But you know, here's the thing. When the game gets down to the wire, we tighten up. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:11 And Cal goes away from all the things that got us to where it is. He's done that his whole career. But now you're on a team where the guys. are shooters. Like, that's what they do. You have to let them shoot. I'm sitting here looking at the numbers from three point land. Shepard was 0 of three, Reeves was one of two. That's five. Justin Edwards took three himself. A dude took two. A do took two. Edwards and a do took the same number of threes as Reeves and Shepard. That makes no sense. It makes no sense. Shepard, I think, could be a little more aggressive.
Starting point is 00:07:50 I agree with that. He's turned some down. But how are you not drawing plays up for Antonio Reeves to take at least four or five threes again? The fact that he took two and hit one of them is crazy to me. Not another game this year does he only take two threes. I'm going to say this again. I've said this once before.
Starting point is 00:08:06 Reeves is on pace, Antonio Reeves, to have the best field goal percentage by guard in the history of this school. and Shepard would be even better. He just hasn't taken enough shots. If Shepard took the minimum number of shots, we would be on pace, Ryan, to have the two best shooting guards in the history of Kentucky basketball,
Starting point is 00:08:33 and yet we throw a lob to a do at the end of the game. That play is going to be what haunts us for this season. We're going to remember that play, the alley-oop to a do when you needed a bucket. against Gonzaga at home. I think I can speak on behalf of the 20,000 plus people that were there. If Reed Shepard, Antonio Reeves, or Rob Dillingham, take a shot to tie it or win it, whatever happens,
Starting point is 00:08:59 we all go home happy with that outcome. If one of those three take a shot, you go, you know what? We gave it our best effort. I agree with that. And we threw a lob that didn't even have a chance. A bad love. If Reeves takes that three and he misses it, you go, So that's the way you go.
Starting point is 00:09:16 Yep. You know, who's up next or first? All right, we'll start with Matt. Matt. Matt, how are you, Matt? I'm good. How are you? Doing good.
Starting point is 00:09:26 What's up? I got two things. I agree. Like, when you're in that situation, you've got to go five out. And Reese Shepard was burning the dude. Let him take it to the rim and kick it out for a three. Yep. And then the big guy, how many times did he go to his left hand?
Starting point is 00:09:41 Force him to the right, make him shoot a hard shot. He didn't want to go to his right, and I didn't see us force him right one time. I agree with both those things. I agree with both those things. Appreciate the call. Go watch every other team in the country. Go watch every other team in the country at the end of game situation. Ain't nobody in the paint.
Starting point is 00:10:01 Nobody's into paint. Why is Hugo in? But why is he in? And he got like right in the middle of the play. I don't know if he messed up. It was Hugo's man that broke the law. If Hugo's not there, I still don't think. the lob works, but there's a chance.
Starting point is 00:10:18 But Ugo's man is who stopped the lob. Like, he was, I'm not saying Ugo, it's Ogo's fault. They're running, but like, Ogo's man's the one that stopped the law. Somebody on Twitter had us, we ran that play against someone else and showed us what happens when it worked. And in that play, Ugo's man was again in the way.
Starting point is 00:10:42 But the lob still got through, And then because Hugo's man was in the way they couldn't score, they kicked it out to Reeves, who then passed it to Shepard, who had a wide open three and made the shot. I just, I love these seven-footers, but if they're going to have three points and two rebounds, that's not seven-footer numbers, they're in the way at that point,
Starting point is 00:11:04 if that's all they're adding to the game. And if they're not playing defense. Yeah. Now, Hugo blocked a few shots. I'm down with a little bit of Hugo if he's blocking shots, but I just don't know what Bradshaw's offer. I guess Z can still throw in some threes occasionally, maybe you let that go a little longer,
Starting point is 00:11:19 but you're just not getting what you need to get out of guys that are seven foot tall in these games. What was Stephen Peake had the tweet since last 17 times Kentucky needed a basket? He showed 29 plays under like 15 seconds where Kentucky needed a basket to tie or take the lead and we had scored in two of the 29. Two of the 29 times.
Starting point is 00:11:44 A handful of them were half-court heaved, So let's say two of 24. Our opponent, Shannon, were 8 of 20 in the same situation. How does that happen? I mean, you've got to fix that somehow. How can you not close out a game, man? You get a really tough Ole Miss team coming in tomorrow night, too. I don't want to think about that.
Starting point is 00:12:06 They had the weekend off, too. Chris Beards had a week to plan for this game. Who's next? Let's go to David. David. How are you, David? Good, guys. Hey, Snoop Dog came to Corbin a couple years back right after he played in Super Bowl.
Starting point is 00:12:22 That's the thing. Kentucky Small Towns get Super Bowl acts right after it's over. I think there's a decent chance that Justin Bieber next year will end up playing in Winchester. It's just a matter of getting it all worked out. That's all you, Matt. So I got a quick hot take and a quick question. So a hot take is I'm dead serious. I would take Rick Petino back in a heartbeat right now. He's a little old for what, I mean, like, if we end up with a new coach,
Starting point is 00:12:54 I don't know that we want them to be over 70. The only thing we do over 70 are presidents. We don't need coaches. We need our presidents. We'll probably be over 80. But definitely coaches maybe a little younger. True, true. Hey, the question is, Matt, I preference this by saying,
Starting point is 00:13:11 I don't mean to be combative. I'm just confused. I hope you can clear it up. You've said before on the show that what are you going to do about the buyout? No one's going to pay for it. We're stuck with them essentially is what I understand. But now we're saying, you're saying, I don't know how much longer the fans can take it. Well, I mean, that's realistic endgame.
Starting point is 00:13:31 But that's the problem. I mean, this is really the problem in a nutshell, and I appreciate the call. So it's like Drew a marriage where you have three kids. and you don't want them and it's very important to you that they grow up with two parents in the house and both sides don't want to be married anymore
Starting point is 00:13:55 but they both have these kids that they don't know what to do about and they're awesome kids everybody loves them great kids. They're awesome kids. All right so now you have for Kentucky and Cal if Cal doesn't have a good march
Starting point is 00:14:08 Kentucky, the fans, most will not want Cal Cal, I think, is worn out with us. But the kids in this scenario are $33 million of buyout. Okay? John Cal Perry does not want to give up 47 million of money, 33 of which is a buyout.
Starting point is 00:14:33 And UK doesn't have 33 million to pay, at least easily accessible. Because their number one don't. right now has nothing to do with basketball. So I don't know what you do. That's what makes this so hard, is you're going to have a situation where if we don't have a good march, I don't really think he's going to want to be here anymore.
Starting point is 00:15:02 And I don't really think our fans are necessarily going to want him to be here. But there's these three kids, or as I'm calling them, $33 million, that you don't know what to do with. And so that's what makes me. makes it hard. And, you know, I hear people say, well, they'll find the money. I don't know that that's true because, I'm going to be careful what I say here. But I think the basketball program has alienated a handful of the biggest donors to where they don't even participate in basketball anymore.
Starting point is 00:15:40 They're football people now. And so how does Mitch Barnhart go to them and say, give me money? to get rid of this coach that you don't have a relationship with. Imagine you had someone that for whatever reason had been on your wrong side and you're asked to write them a check for $10 million. Who wants to do that? Hard to do that. You don't want your dollar going in that pocket.
Starting point is 00:16:05 So we're just in a weird spot. And that's why, you know, I think the most likely scenario is maybe you get together and you somehow get that 33 down to 15 or something. But, you know, Cal likes money. Oh, yeah. Cal is not just, he doesn't want to just give up that money. So it's a very tough spot. Tell me about Stockton Morgan.
Starting point is 00:16:31 You know, Stockton Mortgage has literally hundreds of home loan experts ready to help. They're the number one rural housing lender in the state, and they help people become homeowners every day. They've now have 75 branches in locations in Kentucky. 75. They're licensed in 28 states that can help you wherever you live. Stockton Mortgage, find out more by going to Stockton.com, NMLS-8259, Equal Housing Lender, NMLS Consumer Access.org. We'll take a break.
Starting point is 00:16:57 Be right back. KSR. To talk to Matt Jones and the crew call the Clark's Puppet Shop online at 859-280-2287 or 1-800-606 or 1-806. You can also text Matt on the A-Vision Glass text machine at 772-754. Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio. 859-280-2287. Got some good folks here for lunch on a beautiful Monday,
Starting point is 00:17:24 trying to get it in before the snow. It was supposed to snow tonight. Yeah, you were telling me Louisville's going to get a lot of snow tonight. Well, they're saying it could be up to three to five inches in Louisville, and then down here, supposed to be a few too. Yeah, wet snow. That's news to me. Well, listen, talk to the right people.
Starting point is 00:17:44 Get your Doppler radar out? Well, I just, listen, I've been talking to people and know some things, And that's the way it goes. You're going to be 40 degrees. Well, maybe you'll be 40 degrees. But I'm just telling you. I didn't say tonight here, Lexington, it was like 100% chance of snow at like midnight. I'm just telling you, they said, watch out in Louisville, Lexington.
Starting point is 00:18:04 And then a little bit south of here, I think, even more. Yeah. So there you go. One person writes, Matt, why is the relationship between the donors and Cal Bad? How much time you got? You know, look, this is one of these things that I'll go into more detail when the season ends. But because, you know, winning cures all. If they make a run in March, everything I'm about to say to you will not matter.
Starting point is 00:18:33 It'll be all right. That's why ultimately I keep saying March is what matters. Because if they do well this March, none of this will matter and he'll be fine. But let's say they don't. If you want to know the real state of the way things are with the UK basketball team, go start by reading Kyle Tucker's article he wrote in the athletic before the year. Kyle took a lot of criticism for it, but every single bit of it was true. All right, it was all true.
Starting point is 00:18:57 He took a lot of criticism for writing the truth, but the reality is, as they said in a few good men, a lot of people don't want the truth. They want something else given to them. This is a fact. People can believe it or not believe it. It's up to you. You can accept reality or not accept reality.
Starting point is 00:19:15 Cal has alienated pretty much everyone around the program except a select group of people that he's close to. Okay? And those are the people who sort of created
Starting point is 00:19:29 that law familia collective. But, and Drew, you can feel free to back me up on this. We'll just start with the obvious. He has no relationship with the media. And you don't have to, but when things go bad,
Starting point is 00:19:45 sometimes it's not. to. No relationship with any media anymore, really. The athletic department. Basketball operates on an island. Like, literally has no interaction with the rest of the athletic department. Now, it's been like that for a long time, but Cal's always had a middleman. It was Dwayne for a while. It was Eric Lindsay for a while.
Starting point is 00:20:08 Those guys are gone. He has no middleman. There's, they have, it's, there is a cow, I said this on the post game, Cal fatigue in the athletics department. They are just tired of dealing with it because they have to treat him differently than they treat everything else. And then the third thing is the donors.
Starting point is 00:20:29 You know, Kentucky basketball has been, you got to go back through history, Ryan. You know more about this than me. When Mitch came, he sort of got rid of the good old boy network. He absolutely did. And so then all of a sudden, a handful of donors became very important because they sort of bought into Mitch's philosophy and they kept this program afloat.
Starting point is 00:20:50 Wouldn't you agree? Yes. Cal and those people don't have a relationship anymore. Why is complicated. I think it's different for each one of them. But collectively, now you have a situation. Ten years ago, that practice facility, would it have gotten built? Of course it would have.
Starting point is 00:21:10 Right? Yeah. The fact he can't get that practice facility built, shows you how much juice he's lost with the athletic department and with the donors. He would have gotten that bill 10 years ago. He can't get a billed because the donors won't pay for it. And Mitch and the athletics department are so fatigued, they're not making it a priority. That's why it doesn't get billed.
Starting point is 00:21:36 So put all that together. Now, if you win, all that stuff will take care of itself. The media will praise you The donors will want to be a part of the program because you're winning And the athletic department's going to want to keep you But when you lose The chickens come to roost And that in my opinion, Ryan, is what has happened in a nutshell
Starting point is 00:22:00 You hit it If they win or if they have one Like you had one of the most popular players in the history of this school in Oscar If that team had maybe made a big one People would find out of think to donate money give whatever they need to. Same thing here, man. You got the same thing now with Reed and Dillingham and Reeves.
Starting point is 00:22:17 You've got guys that people love. That's exactly right. You've got a team full of fan favorites and you win, you make a big run. Absolutely. You can probably write your own ticket what you want. That's why you can't lose these games and you sure can't lose at home. And what you're saying about with just the relationships, I agree with all of it. But, you know, and I don't know how we got here.
Starting point is 00:22:37 I just feel like Cal goes and coaches his games and goes home. He's with his team behind closed doors, but like, we're getting coach Antigua again today for press conferences. I don't know no one cares about press conferences, but all the things where Cal was out in front of the fans and you see him and he's controlling the narrative or marketing or doing all. You just don't hear of that anymore. I thought we had it this summer when they went to Drake's, and I kind of felt like who Cal wants to be in the spotlight a little bit again. But now, you know, season, March is coming up and it's like we see him. He coaches the game. There's the press conference, and then I guess we wait until the next game and we'll see what happens.
Starting point is 00:23:09 You know, the football, just think about for a second, the football basketball relationship. Now, of course, it got worse because of that whole basketball school, Stoops' reaction, the fan base kind of split on that. But it was also emblematic of something that was already happening. Okay? I mean, that was the public front of disputes that were already taking place behind closed doors. Is that fair, right? Yes. Yep.
Starting point is 00:23:33 And a lot of it is, Mark Stubes and his staff decided, we are making these donors who have never made a problem. Is that right? Yep. And they basically treated them like friends and became friends with them. And what did that do? It's natural. When you like somebody, you want to see them succeed, you give them more.
Starting point is 00:23:59 And all of a sudden, these people who had been basketball-only donors their entire life were starting to split some money with football. And Cal didn't like it. And I think it culminated in that interview where he goes, we're a basketball school. And even if that's true, that articulation was, I think, you know, we talk about what it meant to the fans and we talk about what it meant to the teams and all that. And also, these donors were like, you got to remember, rich people don't feel like they owe you anything. You know? and I think there was a sense of
Starting point is 00:24:38 what are you doing? You're right. And while the fan base was kind of split, who was at fault, I will tell you this. The donors thought cow was at fault. Am I wrong? Nope. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:24:52 And that's just a reality. So again, I'm not trying to cause division. If you want to know what's really happening, that is what's really happening. And then, because he has no connections in the media, his quote unquote side never gets put out because we don't have any idea what he's what's going on. So that's where it is. We'll take a call.
Starting point is 00:25:17 Be right back. This is KSR. T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay. Welcome back to Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. Welcome back. Techie Sports Radio 859-280 2287. Ryan's really fascinated by the fact that Jesus had.
Starting point is 00:25:36 two ads yesterday. That's $14 million. That's a lot of money from $14 million. Yeah, $7 million an ad, right? That's a lot. It's a lot. Yeah, I actually didn't think, I thought it was a pretty good ad, though. But, like, I don't know what that group is that did it.
Starting point is 00:25:56 You know what I mean? I don't know anything about them. So, like, hard for me to say. 859-2-80-22-87. I did a lot of talking right there. So who's up next, Shannon? Mark Anthony. Mark Anthony.
Starting point is 00:26:05 How are you? Hey, Matthew, Ryan, Shannon. A, uh, you know, three seven footers you would think would be the very definition of rim protection,
Starting point is 00:26:13 but it's not. And you think that the six nine guy that was unavailable would have made some difference frustrating that. I don't know. They, they just get bulldozed. I mean, they're not,
Starting point is 00:26:26 they're not heavy enough. There was one play where they, whatever that boy's name was, just came in there, bumped, bumped, uh, Aaron three times and like you drove him to the fourth side of the lane and just laid it up.
Starting point is 00:26:39 Yep. No, you're exactly right. That was it. They got to come up with a different way to use them, three, seven-seven footers. I also had a thought in the second half as I was watching and put a smile on my face. Remember the beginning of the year when we all thought, we all said, gee, hope Reed Shepard plays well enough to get 10 or 12 minutes. Yeah, no, I mean, he's been great. Yeah, he's been a lot better than anybody thought.
Starting point is 00:27:02 I appreciate the call. I agree with everything he just said. You know, you got what's the point of all the seven footers if you can't rim protect? I mean, that doesn't. Can't rim protect and just got bullied and pushed around and just manhandled. And it is the case. I think Kyle Tucker noted this. It is the case that Kyle seems to say after every game we lost because of whatever dude didn't play that night.
Starting point is 00:27:24 You know, they're even adding, we get emailed game notes with just like stats for the media know. They've started putting the games with injuries almost like. I mean, they're all, but that, like, okay, so take, again, I'm kind of tired of that excuse. Take Kansas. They played Baylor at home this weekend. That KJ McCuller or whatever, who's going to be a first team All-American, he didn't play. You know what they did? They went and won.
Starting point is 00:27:48 South Carolina was missing their third leading score and starting guard when we went down there and lost, you know, Lamont Perez. Connecticut has for most of the year not even had their best player, and they keep winning. Like, you know, I think it matters that we lose. guys but so that's why you have nine or ten players right is so you know i love trey mitchell but when you you can't say we lose because we don't have trey mitchell when he combined to score four points in the last two games and if you really believe that's an excuse please look around the building and say why are we hurt all the time if it's really that big of a deal then fix that yeah i don't know about the ankle doctor shaming i was pretty uh was pretty high on him going into i don't know
Starting point is 00:28:28 what happened to him. No, no. Only three. I mean, as far as the quantity, it's low, but the severity seems to be worse. Yeah, who's next? Let's go to Chester. Chester, wow, Chester getting in. What do you got, Chester? Well, I'll tell you what I got, Matt, as I'm fired up over here, and I'm trying, I'm going to try not to get myself too upset about this. Here's the situation, Matt. We can sit around here as a big blue nation and we can talk about cow and we can talk about all these things and practically run him out of this state him and ellen right here in the middle of the season when the season ain't even over we can we can do all that we can do all that but i'm sitting here i'm gonna tell you what i'm looking at i'm looking right here for me you know how many you don't any losses you don't mean
Starting point is 00:29:15 loss you con had last year when they won the national championship i made it have eight eight matt You go back through the history. There's been teams North Carolina in 2017, 2017, they had seven. There's been team Connecticut in 2014. They had eight. But this season is not over, and it breaks my heart. It breaks my heart that we, you know what, we will come in here and we will rag on cow and practically run him and Ellen out of this state when what we should be doing is talking
Starting point is 00:29:46 about how we can support him while he's in the middle of this season and stand up with him. We need to be buying a billboard. I'll tell you what, we get a billboard here in Lexington that says, I stand with Cal and the cat. That's what we need to be talking about. But we can't do it because you know what? We will shoot our wounded worse than the Christian church. I'll tell you, that's the truth in this big blue nation.
Starting point is 00:30:06 We will do it. But we have got to come together. This season is far from over. We can take 10 losses. I believe it if we did, this team is special enough that we can still make a run and win this thing. But when the season's over, if we want to, if we need to make it change, It reminds me of when Joker was here. We didn't give him a season.
Starting point is 00:30:33 We wanted to run him out of the state right in the middle of the season when we had plenty to play for. And it just breaks team out there, Matt. We have got a special team. And I just hope that we could come together. All right, Chester. Wow. There you go.
Starting point is 00:31:02 Giving him passion speech to the Big Blue Nation. I appreciate the call. What do you think of that shit? I think that that's going to be our Kentucky-brandic call today. It can't get any better than that. I'm talking free to call a day. Two minutes. I just let him go.
Starting point is 00:31:16 How about that? I had to literally take my headphones off because it was a little loud. But you know what? Chester had things to say, Drew. And one thing he's right on, nothing's going to happen until the year's over. So we should, and I do believe, continue to cheer the team on. They do have the talent, I think, to make a run, even if it is frustrating right now. I agree.
Starting point is 00:31:37 It's nice hearing him. We usually get that from him on the football side. He's stepping up and doing it for basketball, too. I agree with the message. I know we complain when things just happen and you've lost three games at Rupp, but I think everyone in the fan base is an agreement. These players, we love. This is a special group, and we know that they're capable of still going on a run.
Starting point is 00:31:56 We hope they do. So all this whining we do when they lose a bad game, hopefully it doesn't go too far to where it can impact them because they still have basketball to play. Wow, so the text machine, 7-7-2-7-4, having all kinds of mixed emotions on the Chester call. They're all over the place. need him to like give the pep talk before one of the like the next game you know and we might need to do
Starting point is 00:32:16 that well we probably the next big one is Saturday at Auburn you know here's the thing the next big one's Tuesday every game is a big one now you think we can lose Tuesday we can lose to anyone nine o'clock I don't know how many people are going to be that that's a good question with old miss being off this weekend Chris Beard has been working on this game since last Wednesday yeah are you worried at all about the uh the crowd for a nine o'clock tip against old miss I think you got I'd be worried a little bit. But I mean, in the last two games, Tennessee and Gonzaga, the crowds have been awesome. Crowds been awesome both times.
Starting point is 00:32:48 Crowds have been awesome both times. By the way, they've changed the forecast, Shannon. No snow in Louisville, the heavy snow in Lexington. Oh, really? Lexington and South. So like Richmond, Berea, that kind of stuff. So, Shannon, you're good. Don't worry about it.
Starting point is 00:33:08 When you said that, I looked down at 50 degrees. I was going, okay, how is this going to work? I guess it got, I don't know how you would think it would be colder north than south. But you've got to understand the weather. Jet stream. Yeah, jet stream. There's a lot happening. Ryan, I don't expect you to get all of it.
Starting point is 00:33:26 But I just wouldn't you to know. Yeah, there's a lot of big L's and big H's on the weather map coming around. It's a lot of pressure. That's right. That's all the pressures. Yeah. A lot of pressure. That can't be good.
Starting point is 00:33:37 I thought I heard somewhere we were going to have like all this snow in February. Like that the I thought Chris Bailey was like Wait until you see all the snow What happened? Is it still coming? I guess it's coming tonight. Tonight.
Starting point is 00:33:48 It's good started. Chris Bailey did send out like early February He was like the end of February is going to be snow is snowing. Yeah. Got to go get my milk and bread today then. Yeah. Who's up next?
Starting point is 00:33:58 Just go to Edward. Edward. What's up, Edward? Hey Matt, how are you? Doing good. Yeah, look, I'm going to make this really short for you. I'm not going to top Chester's call. But hey, I love Cal, I love coach.
Starting point is 00:34:12 I'm never going to give up on him. I hope everything that's happened hasn't ruined his reputation here. Frankly, you should probably have a statue with Rupp and Coach Hall out there. But, yeah, disappointing. I was at the Gonzaggy game. Most deflating moment, I think, was towards the end. As fans started to leave, I saw Antonio Reeves look up and do kind of a scan around, and he looked so defeated.
Starting point is 00:34:33 You might not have caught it, but it was for about five seconds, and it was just killer to watch as a fan. but I love this team. I love this program. It's brought me some of my happiest moments. I just graduated. So the last four years have been a bit sad, but love him. I think next year, not to look too far ahead,
Starting point is 00:34:50 but hopefully JQ and Somtoe won't get pushed around like our seven footers are now, but they'll love these guys. And, you know, I'm going to ride with Cal until the end. And like I said, hopefully whenever he does go, it's not because it was this messy. Yeah, no, I agree with that. Listen, I agree with one thing, and I appreciate the call. This is very important to think. Big picture, Cal did a ton of good stuff here.
Starting point is 00:35:15 And I think everyone doesn't want to see this in poorly. The best thing that could happen to Kentucky basketball is a run this march. What happens after the year? Different conversation. But the best thing that can happen for all sides, for this fan base, to unify the fan base is a run this march. It would make everything less messy. It would just make everything so much more,
Starting point is 00:35:37 whatever is the next step, it's going to be a more positive step if there is a run this march before whatever happens happens. We have a big run March. I forgive him for this loss we just had to get zagging. I'm sure he'll be happy about that. Good. Yeah. He'll be able to sleep.
Starting point is 00:35:54 It will erase all memories. You know, Shannon, Cal will feel, you know how good Cal is going to feel when he hears that that Ryan will forgive him. And one thing about Chester's speech, he's worried about us running Ellen out of town. We ain't running Ellen out of town. Well, if Cal goes, she's going. I don't think she's going to stay. She's not going to divorce them. I have a feeling that if he's not the coach here,
Starting point is 00:36:17 she's not just going to stay and keep a summer home here. I don't know that that's necessarily realistic. By the way, these folks right here just ordered the sliders. These new sliders, I've not eaten them yet. I'm going to eat them tomorrow. Today I'm trying to be moderately healthy. But tomorrow, you know, I've heard. the jalapino burger thing and the chicken one are excellent.
Starting point is 00:36:41 They look really good. Look at them. They look awesome. Yes. Am I allowed to just take a bite out of this? That's one of our new menu items for people to look at. We'll take a break. Be right back.
Starting point is 00:36:53 Oh, wait a minute. First, cornbread hemp. Sounded like Tony Romo. Maybe he got his shipment in right before. He ate his whole supply before the game yesterday. But, you know, you need to rest, relax, and sleep when you're frustrated. frustrated, cornbread hemp will go. Let's say Chester might be before the rest of the workday to kind of get him bring down a notch. Go to cornbread hemp.com, full spectrum flower only hemp CBD. The two guys that started it,
Starting point is 00:37:18 we're sitting here at the bar this weekend before we went to the game, cornbread hemp.com, full spectrum flower over the hemp CBD, 30-day guarantee. Go check them out at cornbread hemp.com. We'll take a break and be right back. Winchester is in the house here as well. This is Kentucky Sports Radio. To talk to Matt Jones and the crew, call the clerk. Park's Pump and Shop phone line at 859-28027 or 1-800-606-4263 and send us the Kentucky-branded tweet of the day by tweeting Matt at KY Sports Radio. Very controversial call from Chester. People all over the spectrum on their thoughts on it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:37:57 Getting a lot of praise, getting some criticism. But that's where the fan base is right now, right? I think that's kind of how it is. Court physical therapy, if you're hitting the gym, practicing yoga or playing tennis, By the way, they said pickleball had it commercially yesterday. It was like it's tennis for goobers or something. That was their commercial? I think that was their tagline.
Starting point is 00:38:16 I need to spend all that money to say that. I thought it was a weird way to go. But court physical therapy, whether you play any of those, they'll help you get your needs and you don't have to have a doctor referral. Just go to court physical therapy, see if they can help you with your pain. Court.com, that's KRT.com, over 75 locations with court. I want to tell you, I was really disappointed, by the way, speaking of pickleball, one of my really good friends.
Starting point is 00:38:37 I'm not going to call them out on the radio, but I had a stranger come up to me here in the bar and go, one of your good friends, and I play pickleball together. They don't want you to know. Really? But they do. And now I know.
Starting point is 00:38:52 It wasn't one of you all, but I've confronted them. Yeah. There's a strain now. They owned up to it? Yeah, they said, and their answer was, yeah, I do. Matt, I think you'd be good at it.
Starting point is 00:39:03 You ought to play. And I said, Shannon, never. You are very stubborn on this pickleball thing. Never. Let me ask you, are you more upset that this person plays or was doing it behind your back? Is there a trust broken? They're sneaking out behind you and playing pickleball? I'm not going to go.
Starting point is 00:39:22 You remember what happened. But one year at the SEC tournament, one of our friends showcased to all the other friends, one of the things he likes. Do you remember this? Keep going. I'm trying to get there. they made sure they did it when I wasn't there. Oh, I'm with you.
Starting point is 00:39:41 And I wasn't so, I didn't care what they did. I didn't like that they didn't think I'd be cool with. Everyone in the room knew but you. That's what I don't like. I don't like, like, I'm the common denominator between all of you people, and I'm the one you can't tell. Like, I'm not, you know what I mean? Like, that's the, that's what gets me.
Starting point is 00:40:02 Because, you know, and he said to me later, he was like, I was worried you'd be. disappointed. Like, I'm your friend. I'm not going to be disappointed. So I wasn't disappointed so much about the pickleball. I was infuriated, but I wasn't disappointed. But I just was like, you can tell me that. I'm, you know, Ryan. Maybe he was this pickleball friend was afraid you'd call him out on the radio. I try to keep a little distance to where my friend, you know, I don't call out their private lives. But I'm going to tell you, if you're my friend, you're playing pickleball, be ready to be. That's why they don't want to tell you. Two more quiet. How did you
Starting point is 00:40:36 find out and you said someone told you. Somebody here at the bar. It was like, hey, I know one of your friends, I play pickleball with him. And then you could almost tell they were like, ooh. What a snitch. I screwed that up. How bad would it have heard if you had just been driving downtown and looked over to court, and there he was just out there?
Starting point is 00:40:50 Might have come thrown the racket. That big indoor pickleball facility on New Circle is, it's almost done. It looks like. It's big. Can I tell you one commercial, Shannon, that I heard last night that I'm not buying one bit? What's up? There was a commercial that said poppy soda. When your kids in the future, when your kids think of soda, they will think of poppy.
Starting point is 00:41:13 False. Yeah, that's nobody's not going to ever be bigger than Coke. Nope. Or Diet Coke. I'm writing it down. I do not, I never even heard a poppy. I understand people may drink Poppy, that's fine. But Drew, the idea that my kids, who at this point don't exist, but could conceivably one day would prefer Poppy over
Starting point is 00:41:36 Coke is impossible. I kind of feel like they were kind of throwing shade at anyone a little older. They're like, hey kids, your parents were drinking this crap. You can be the future if you make this the cola. They were really talking about, I think, what the rest of us do wrong, drinking Coke. I've had a poppy. It's not good at all. I have one at home.
Starting point is 00:41:55 It was a hero sports drink I'd buy. But Poppy, Shannon, no way. I'm looking it up. It says it's soda with gut health. Gut health. It says prebiotic. I don't understand that. That's like a new thing they say when they want you to eat something.
Starting point is 00:42:08 They talk about your gut. Just the word gut makes me not want to eat it, right? Gut is a disgusting word. Coke can take battery acid off of like a car. But does it taste good? Yes. It's doing the same thing in your stomach. I don't care.
Starting point is 00:42:24 My stomach likes it, Ryan, and that's the way it goes. What is where you grew up your generic word for all soft drinks? Coke. Me too. Everything's a Coke. Everything's a Coke. And then you say, you say you want a Coke? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:42:35 What kind do you want? I'll think a Sprite. A Pepsi is a Coke. Yeah. But like some areas, they call everything's a soda or a pop. Those are the three. There are places where it's a soda. There are places where it's pop.
Starting point is 00:42:48 And then I think in the South it's all Coke. Everything is a Coke. And so like a Dr. Pepper's a Coke. Yep. It is. You want a Coke? Yeah. What do you want?
Starting point is 00:42:57 I'll think of Dr. Pepper. But that's the conversation. That's exactly what it is. Everything is a Coke. So I'm not going to all of a sudden go. you want a Coke. Yeah, I want a poppy. No, that's not having it.
Starting point is 00:43:09 I'm going to bring you a poppy tomorrow. They're not good. Yeah, I'm not interested. Who's next? Steve. Steve, go ahead, Steve. Hey, Matt. You know, I'm thinking maybe the KSR curses at work here for basketball.
Starting point is 00:43:24 How's that? My question is, have we won a home game since Drew started working five days a week? It's only been one week. Actually, it started before me. Take tomorrow off. Yeah. He's only been doing a full five-day week once, so I don't think it's him yet. I thought it's been two weeks, but anyway, the last play, I'm with you.
Starting point is 00:43:50 I just, I could not believe what my eyes were seeing. We're the leading three-point shooting team in the country. The leading three-point shooting team in the country, and we draw up a friggin' lob play, which he drew up to play before and got one out of two free three. throws, which costs us a point, which we could have badly needed. But how you do not have Reeves and Dillingham and Shepard and Z and then one big guy, all of them out by the three-point line is beyond me. We had no one other than Reed at the three-point line.
Starting point is 00:44:29 Reeves is in a sandwich at the free throw line eight feet from three-point-five. That's a great point. I appreciate the call. We had three dudes on top of each other. Yep. Three dudes on top of each other. Well, I mean, I could say it all day. All right.
Starting point is 00:44:43 So tomorrow the Cats play. We will be here again at KSmar. I was going to be in Louisville, but now I'm worried. I was worried about the non-existent snow. So now I'm here, but we will be here tomorrow. And then, of course, the game is tomorrow night. Thank you, folks, for listening. Come on out to the bar, get some lunch or dinner today.
