Now, here's Matt Jones.
Welcome, everyone.
It is Kentucky Sports Radio.
Tuesday, February the 13th.
I'm Matt Jones here on a sunny day in Lexington, Kentucky.
You can give us a shout.
Clark's Pubbit Shop phone line 859-280-2287 here at the KS Bar and Grill.
A Vision Auto Glass Text Machine is 772-727.

If you call T.J. he'll make them pay.
Just so people know, I put up
on the
Bond That Bridge Facebook page,
which is still a great place to discuss
all things about the show.
I put up there our remote
schedule. People keep asking, like,
can you tell us in advance when the
remotes are? And my answer
had always been, no.
But, you know,
you can. Yeah.
So I decided to put it on there, and so I put it up, and we are at Don Franklin Thursday in London, so it's on there.
And then the rest of them through the SEC tournament, Ryan, are on there.
That's good.
You know, good public service announcement.
We get asked a lot about it, but it changes a lot.
So, you know, people understand this is subject to change the calendar.
They do change if things pop up.
Yes.
And that kind of stuff.
Yes.
Drew is here as well, thanks to the old Kentucky chocolates people, who it looks like brought us chocolate over there.
Oh, I know you're thinking of them for me.
being here. I didn't see those. I was like, yeah. I don't know.
Drew is sponsored by old Kentucky chocolate.
So we're at KS. Bar tonight. If you're coming to the Kentucky
Old Miss game, come on by.
We'd love to see you. We'll be doing the pregame show here. I guess the game is at nine.
Yes. So that means a
630 pregame. You excited about that?
I got to be honest. I have probably more
anxious about this game than I have been the last three.
The Gonzaga, Tennessee, Florida.
Well, maybe that's a good sign because you weren't anxious about those.
Yes.
lost, you can be anxious about this one.
Okay.
And then we'll win.
Here's what he's anxious about, Shannon.
He gets to do the postgame show tonight.
Because he got to sign tonight's postgame show a few weeks back.
And Shannon, he's going to get to do it late at night this evening.
Well, hopefully it's a win.
We know Ryan's record when it comes to doing the postgame shows.
It's not great for Kentucky.
But tonight maybe you have an unbelievably terrible record.
But the way I look at it is I've done all.
these where we lost, maybe you'll be a good luck charm. Maybe you will reverse the curse tonight.
But if we were to lose. Oh my goodness. A 1230 at night Tuesday losing postgame show,
Drew, that could be a sad time. I think it would be more anger, though. I think not that we would
want them to lose, but a loss, I think you'd have a lot more activity on the phone lines than if they were to
just win by 12. If you were to win, it might just be you and Billy singing tonight at 1230 at night.
Now, that's the scenario we all want.
We want us to be as easy on you carrying the show.
Yeah, we've talked about that.
They call after a loss when people are mad and frustrated.
A lot of times if it's a big win, phone lines don't ring off the wall like they would have the loss.
So here's what I've learned this year.
I've done some studying about post-game show listening.
All right.
Yep.
Tell me.
So on the post-game show, when we lose, there are more people that listen live
than when we win, unless it's a huge win.
So if you're ranking, if you're ranking listenership,
huge win is number one.
Any loss is number two,
and then it changes after that.
What's interesting, though, is on the podcast,
the podcast does significantly worse when we lose.
So the way I look at it is this.
When we lose on a Saturday,
I think people are very angry in the moment,
want to vent, want to hear.
But then they don't want to think about it the next day.
Yeah.
Whereas when we win, they might go celebrate,
and then the next day they want to continue the joy
by listening to the postgame show.
So it's just kind of interesting.
There are more listeners live when we lose,
but pretty significantly fewer post-like podcast listeners when we lose.
So I don't know.
I mean, that's my take on it.
Is there another explanation?
In the website writing,
I did that Saturday night.
I was trying to decide what angle will take, and I thought Saturday,
let's be grumpy this stunk, and Sunday morning I wrote a,
okay, these were the things that went well.
It's almost like, let's all be mad at once right as it happened,
and you don't want to go back and be mad the next day.
I think it's true.
So your podcast listeners are like, I don't want to go backwards.
I didn't hear it right when it happened.
I want to re-groom.
So when we win a big game, like when we beat, well, the Georgia big Z game,
our post-game podcast got up that night to like number four in the country.
but then it was lower normally it ends up about number 20
and then last night after the Tennessee game it was like 35 or 40 so I think I think that's
but in the moment you get a bunch so I think that I think it just says something about the
fan psyche in terms of anger in the moment ignore in the second half I think I'm even
that way I listen more to your post game show after a loss because I'm in the moment I'm in
moment i'm mad i'm frustrated i want to hear but in a win maybe i don't tune in as much that's interesting
you'd have to be a really miserable person to want to go back and listen to the podcast like a day or two
later after a loss right maybe you want to roll in your misery well i will tell you for super bowl sunday
wk yt called me and said can we come film at your bar for the super bowl yeah and i said i don't
think you want to do that i was like we lost saturday and i don't think they'll be as me
I think the most fascinating human study trait is the bar on the day after we win versus day after we lose.
It's crazy.
The bar does twice as much business after a win and after a loss the next day.
Because I think people's psyche just is, I don't want anything, I don't want to think about UK after we lose.
It's crazy the difference.
And it's like you can chart it.
When we look at past years, all you got to do to say, why is it down that Sunday is just go look.
Did they win the day before?
But why is that?
Why are people like that?
Especially in this state.
Our temperament of our entire state depends on how these kids play a game.
Which is why when people say to me, you just won't, okay, I won't come on a show, you just want them to lose.
I'm like, no.
What are you talking about?
The other thing is this show.
I know people don't believe.
This show, I said this to somebody, I said this to my boss last week.
I didn't, this is not how I meant to start the show.
I said this to my boss last week.
This show has been harder to do the last three weeks or four weeks than I can ever remember.
I mean it.
This has been the hardest time to do this show.
The only time I could think about it was the couple weeks after COVID when we had no
idea what to do.
Like we didn't know if sports were going to come back immediately or not,
and we just weren't even sure what to do, right?
Then we kind of got into a COVID groove we knew.
This has been the hardest because here's the thing.
Go back through the 13 years we've done it.
When we're winning, it's the best.
Everybody's happy.
You're just trying to make everybody happy.
When we're losing, like with Joker,
everybody was kind of on the same page.
We just got to move on.
Right?
This is different.
The fan base is split.
And Drew, it doesn't matter.
It doesn't matter what we say.
We will get yelled at.
Oh, yeah.
And I found it to be the hardest time to ever do this show.
It's literally since the Florida again.
Well, if you look around social media, the fan base seems to be eating itself,
arguing over what's going wrong, what's going right, who should coach, who should play.
so then when you're on a radio or have any kind of plat,
you just have to be so delicate
because there's just so much disagreement
with the audience already.
And if you don't articulate the exact view
that that person has,
then you're the worst.
Yeah.
And when you win, it's so much like,
oh, that dunk was so awesome.
We won by 12.
When it's lost, people want solutions and answer.
Why did this happen?
Not so much as just a broad.
It's fun.
Everyone's one.
Why is it not working?
But there's also a group of people
whose negativity is so high that let's say we win tonight,
they'll go shut up, I don't care until March.
Yeah, yeah, there's no doubt.
I was surprised yesterday.
I mean, you, like, we won't play it on the air because we can't.
You just got like the nastiest message in the world left on your phone.
Yeah.
I'd like for people to literally, if you want to see that.
If you want to hear it.
Okay, well, maybe we'll play it here in just a minute.
if you could look at my text machine and at the Twitter replies in the last two weeks,
you will see, like, it's unbelievable to me how nasty it is.
I can't believe people who like, I'm like, I know you.
You know what I mean?
Like, we've met.
I've taken a picture with your kids, and you've said you, and like, you're going to say that.
It is crazy to me, and that's why I think this is the hardest time to do it, is this fan base,
the only time I can remember the fan base being split like this was like the first couple months of Billy's second year.
By the end of Billy's year, everybody kind of thought he had to go.
But when we lost that second year to, who do we lose, do we lose to VMI at the start of the second year?
We lost a Gardner Web in San Diego the first year.
I think we lost the VMI the second year.
And there were still people after that holding out hope,
but then there were other people that were not.
That's the only time I can think of this.
This has had to be what it was like, Ryan, when Tubby was here.
Yeah.
And even Chester's call yesterday, I think, really divided the fan base,
the pro-chester, anti-Chester.
Yes, and I posted that just to sort of give a sense of a different point of view.
And then all the people that disagreed with Chester got mad at me for that.
I thought that was a fun call yesterday.
I shared it, too.
I did not expect backlash over a Chester call.
Yeah.
He's Chester.
Like, you let him cook.
Entertainment.
So, you know, I think that's, and I just think if we don't get a March run, we're looking at a whole summer of that, aren't we?
I think we're to that point, yes.
A March run can cause, and I'll be one of them that will forget about a lot of these losses,
just that they can have a March run.
But if they bow out early in March again, it may get as ugly around here as it's ever been.
I agree.
Now, most importantly, though, you're staying up tonight.
I am staying up tonight.
That's a late night for me.
So Thursday, I'm speaking in Monticello to the city of Monticello.
Actually, my mom asked me last night, what's the event?
And I realized I don't know.
That would be helpful.
Well, I'll read up on it between now.
I agreed to speak a long time ago.
There's some Monticello City event Thursday.
I don't know what it is.
I think it's like people of Monticello, you know.
Nighting for Wayne County, and I'm speaking.
And I'm excited about it.
But then when I'm done, you know, Friday, we're at the Capitol.
That's correct.
For OVW Day.
Yes.
So that's a big turnaround.
Yeah.
Monticello.
Because Monticell, I don't know if you look at the map.
It's not very close to Frankfurt.
So, but I'm excited to go to Wayne County.
I hope may go to the pool hall.
I was going to ask.
Do you know the location of your speech?
Not yet.
You just know you're in Bonicello Thursday night.
They asked if I could come early for a meet and greet,
and I can't remember if I said yes or not.
So if you're listening, you might want to let,
and I've lost the phone number, Shane.
Oh, no.
You really need somebody to plan out your speaking engagements in life in general.
I don't disagree with you.
They asked me,
I had someone very nice to me say,
Why don't you hire a part-time personal assistant,
but then they have to be around.
Yeah.
And I don't know about that.
Yeah.
You know what I mean?
What about your non-volt battery guy?
Just give him a few more tasks.
Add a little more to his plate.
So we know we're in Monticello Thursday night,
but we don't know why or where or when.
I'm speaking.
Yeah, but we don't know where or why.
So what are you going to do is wander around Monticello until somebody grabs you and says how you're supposed to be here?
I feel like someone, you know, I agree to this a long time ago.
I feel like someone between now and then is going to reach out.
Okay.
If they don't, if you see me just wondering the streets of Monticello,
if you can point me in the right direction.
You need to track down.
There's a little controversy, I think, down here about those,
the Moncello Pool Hall's burgers.
Like, they've changed ownership.
Oh, they didn't clean it, didn't they?
I think maybe they have.
It's changed in some capacity.
They did not clean all that cigarette smoke off the grill.
Find out for us.
Report back on Friday and find out.
You know, the owner hasn't contacted me in a while, so maybe he sold it.
Yeah, I think they sold it, and it's not as good.
It's what I'm hearing.
Well, really, that's what we'll make sure gets fixed on Thursday.
So if you're listening and you're in Monticello, you might want to remind me where to go.
It's not your fault.
It's mine, but I'm not, Shannon, 100% sure.
So unless that person is listening right now.
I'm going to Monticello regardless.
So what if you go there and nobody contact?
Follow the crowd.
I know it's like a long way to go for that.
I know, but there's not.
It's not that big a place.
I feel like there's going to be hunt.
I remember them telling me there was going to be a couple hundred people there.
So I feel like a couple hundred people are there in Monticello.
I'll be able to find it.
Just place with the most cars.
Place with the most cars.
Not Walmart.
What are you going to say when you get there?
Oh, I got big things to say.
859-2-A-0 2287.
A-Vision auto glass text machine is 772-7-7-4.
We will take a break and be right back at KSbars, Kentucky Sports Radio.
Welcome back.
All right.
So you have found, Drew.
you found where I'm supposed to go.
I did.
Thanks to the internet.
I know that you are going to the
2024 chamber banquet
and awards night.
Yeah.
They've been used a nice picture of you. Your Emmy picture,
you're holding an award. Oh, nice.
It says a keynote speaker, Matt Jones.
They didn't use that picture of the radio rankings did.
See, I've wanted to retweet the radio
because they did a thing that showed the whole top ten
and there we were. But that picture of me
is so bad. I don't want to encourage you.
It's the only picture I can think of where my belly is like out.
I think that had to be the fattest I ever was in my life.
And like you have, they are now at the point that they are looking for that one.
Because I don't even know where that picture.
I had never seen that picture before ever.
I've never seen that picture before.
And it might be Photoshop.
They may have added a little bit to me.
There's some AI involved?
Yeah.
So the Monicello Chamber of Commerce.
Do you have the address?
You are going to Airport Road.
Ooh, see, I would have been downtown.
So I'm glad you said that.
First of all, there's an airport.
You're going to the Aspire Center.
They have an airport in Monticello.
I mean, they have an airport road.
I assume that is it a company by an airport?
But if they did not have an airport.
They had an airport road.
It's like something they're hoping for.
Yes, building for the future.
Well, it's like you started Kentucky Sports Radio without a radio show.
We didn't have a radio show.
That's what they're doing.
They want an airport.
I'll tell you something funny.
That website that gave us number one ranking.
They called you.
They're interviewing all the.
the host that came number one.
So they did an interview with me, and they were like,
why did you name it Kentucky Sports Radio?
And I do my little spiel about I wanted it to be a radio show,
but it wasn't there.
And he talked to me like I was a moron.
He was like, so you called it Kentucky Sports Radio,
and you didn't have a radio show?
And I was like, well, yeah.
And he goes, oh, okay.
And then he made me question it.
Like, did I name this thing the right thing 19 years ago now?
Did you tell him, check the scoreboard on the rankings?
Maybe everyone else is doing it wrong.
Maybe so.
All right.
So to give you an example of what we were talking about in terms of the, you all saw a couple weeks ago the way people went out as for being too negative.
Ryan last night got a message of somebody who thinks we're too positive.
Now, there's a lot of beeps in this, but he got the version that had no beeps.
Go ahead.
Okay.
Lemon.
So I grow man.
What did Ryan do?
Left that on his phone.
And to be fair,
the first time he sent that to me
was after they lost St. Peters.
Oh, so that wasn't new?
So it sent to me again
like just kind of as a refresher
last night.
Does that not scare you a little
that someone would leave that on your phone?
I laughed.
A little unhinged.
I laughed, though.
Do you know that person?
Yes.
Okay.
So it's not a stranger.
No.
All right, well, that helps.
Yeah.
But why do you think he cusses at you so much?
Like, I don't know that you can do anything.
No, I think that's why, you know, people call your postgame show.
We're all so frustrated.
We're just, you know, crawl, our skin's crawling.
We're so mad we need to some form of release.
Thus, let's call the post game show.
I don't know that I get that mad, though.
I've been pretty mad.
I don't think I've called a stranger and cussed them out.
Yeah, I mean, I feel like that's a little unhinged.
I've called my TV everything under the sun,
but I've never called someone out of the blue
and left them a voicemail just to vent.
I had a couple days ago a police officer
reach out and ask,
there was one person who had made comments on social media
that they saw and asked if I wanted to like pursue it
because they thought it was so threatening.
Really?
Yeah.
And I was like, no, that's okay.
But this was an anonymous account
that this person themselves,
thought was like, you know,
so that's, I mean, people are a little unhinged now.
And like you said, they are, they are split.
I mean, the Cal defenders are, I think that group's getting smaller and smaller and
smaller, but they are still out there.
And I understand.
Like, it's, the one thing I do think, and Cal did his post game show last night,
and he made a quote that I think is a quote that is a strong quote,
I think it took some guts for him to say.
But at the same time, it's one of these quotes that just puts more
pressure on March. His quote was, I'm not worried, we're built for March. That was his quote.
We're built for March. That was on his radio show. I think that's one of those things that you're
kind of doubling down. Like, now you've got to. Like, what else can you say? They're not built for
February. We know that. So, I mean, you've got to say that at this point.
They sure ain't built for February.
That's right.
They're not built for February, Shannon.
That's true.
But I hope they are built for March.
Now, I heard some, I thought some good news.
Jack Pilgrim on KSR Plus reported last night that his sources around the program.
And, you know, one of the things that there are very few people that are talking to folks around the program.
They're shutting off.
Jack's probably got the best insight now right now of anybody on it.
Jack says that Cal is about to shrink the lineup and go small.
That basically his plan is to go, Shepard Reeves, Dillingham, Wagner, Edwards, Adieu, Mitchell, and Ugo.
That those eight will basically be the ones that get the main minutes, and that even Bradshaw may only play spot minutes.
Basically, Bradshaw and Z and Burke's getting left out.
what do you think about that?
Well, it's usually what he does.
Usually he gets it down to a six or seven-man rotation.
That just seems to be his M-O.
But not playing Bradshaw, not playing Z.
The Bradshaw one really surprised me
because he was supposed to be a lottery pick
and Calax protect these guys
and try to get everybody for the next level
and by him taking away his minutes.
That's why I think he did not do that with Justin Edwards.
He's like, I'm going to let him play through it
and get to where we think it's going to be.
Jack also wrote, though,
he wants to go significant minutes with Mitchell
at the five, which, by the way, is what we've been saying for a long time, I will applaud it.
I think it's the right decision.
And if he does it, I think that takes a lot of guts.
I'll be, I mean, I'm surprised.
And there's a part of me that says, I want to see it.
But like if he does, Drew, I do think that's a pretty good move with the way we're playing.
I think a lot of people want to see that.
He's saying all the right things.
We'll see if he does it in the game.
I think at this point he has to.
If you have eyeballs, you see who needs to play.
If these guys just showed up and there's no lottery, there was no talk before they got here,
they just showed up anonymous and played basketball.
The minutes would be completely different right now based on who's playing better.
One person is writing me a person I know that says in Monticello, Jack Rausch, the famous NASCAR team owner.
Yeah.
His wife was from Monticello, and he would fly into the Monticello airport all the time.
There's where they have the airport.
Roush Airport.
There we go.
You know Jack Rosh, NASCAR?
I've never met him, but I know the name.
All right, good.
We'll take a break.
Be right back.
We are here at KS.
Bars, Kentucky Sports Radio.
T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney.
Call T.J.
He'll make them pay.
Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Here's Matt Jones.
Welcome back, Kentucky Sports Radio here.
What happened?
It did snow last night.
Where did it all go?
I didn't see snow.
Did you see some snow?
I saw like little drop.
Yeah.
Had a huge crowd last night, Shitting at Raw.
Did you see it was the most money ever made in a Lexington
wrestling event. Is that right? I watched a little bit of it. Anything good happened?
No, I mean, it was fine. But it was just like a lot. I've been there for a bunch of
wrestling bits. They had the upper deck open. Oh, that's usually curtain open. Last night they did.
People for a, for a wrestling show, yeah. Just another thing that's got Rup rocking over there.
I just feel like there's something there all the time. It just feel like Rup is rolling.
Yes. And they just, they announced Pete Davidson is coming to the Lexington Opera House or whatever.
I bought my tickets at 10 a.
Pete Davidson, the same night that Billy Stringes is playing Rupp.
They're both in Lexington in the same night?
Same night.
Same night, Billy Strings and Pete Davidson.
So where is Pete Davidson performing at?
The Lekyll House.
Opera House. I just said, yeah.
Right around the corner from Ro.
Still the same place.
All right, so speaking of Lexington, Linas, the place that if you went to school at UK from
what, 92 to
2017. You probably found your way in there
at some point. They just yesterday took the sign
off. They were putting something else in there. It'd been closed for about a year,
but they just took the sign off and it's gone. The hot cheese tauts
are no more. Are you sad to see a piece
of Kentucky, UK bar history? How many
national championships, at least two?
We're celebrating right on that corner, right outside of Linas.
I saw Cherry Poppin Daddy's there and Mighty, Mighty Bostones.
Oh, my.
Yes, I saw in the 90s there.
It's now close.
One of the first places I went to eat lunch when I moved to Lexington in 1996 and went to Lines to get an O-Round.
O-Round.
The O-Round.
Everybody said it was the best burger in town to go get an O-Round.
Was it still like the place to be when you were, I mean, it was, when I was, when I was,
was in school, it was the bar around campus.
It didn't two keys.
Those were the only two bars really around campus people went to.
Was it like that when you were there?
It kind of tapered off.
I mean, it was still big.
It was kind of off by itself down there and new areas had popped up and been a little
more popular, but it was definitely still election to staple.
I was there plenty of times when Kentucky football was ranked and played on a Thursday
against South Carolina.
Unfortunately, lost that one.
But we had a big crew in there.
It was a wild Lana's night.
as a lover of an Irish car bomb frequent.
And they got great music there over the years.
Oh, yeah.
That was the thing that was crazy.
They'd get concerts, you'd be like, really the spin doctors are playing there?
Aren't they a little big?
And Linus would find a way to pull these acts.
And like Linus is not at some huge venue for a band for live music.
When the Mighty Mighty Boss Tones came, they had that song that was out that, what is it?
Never had to knock on wood.
Never had to knock on wood.
If I would, it would.
Sounds just like it.
Ryan and I went fairly recently.
It was Tim Anstead's going away party, and we were there kind of early in the day,
and we looked up and it flipped to a college bar,
and we're looking around like, yeah, that's probably time for us to go.
But what was that?
So I was sad to see that sign pulled off.
It was.
And that was what State Street became in the cow years, that was there in the Patino years.
What was the bar across the street?
Was it the fish bowl?
The fish tank?
Is that still there?
It's still there.
It disappeared and came back.
Oh, okay.
I was just walking by there the other day,
and I was like the fish tank is here?
That was another hit.
Yeah, I could not believe that was still there.
So, sad to see that go.
Who's next, Shannon?
All right, let's start with Jeff.
Jeff, go ahead, Jeff.
Hey, gentlemen, good morning.
First of all, Drew, congrats on the five days.
Thank you very much.
Whenever Matt announced that, I had never been more aroused.
Oh, wow.
All right, happy Valentine's day to you, too.
Family show here.
Yeah, yeah.
And hey, Matt, I wanted to address another one,
of your criticisms.
A lot of times on Twitter,
you see that you guys favor football
and your harder-on basketball.
And whether that's true or not,
I don't think that's fair because I've been listening to you since 2019.
You never claim to be an unbiased journalist or entertainment show
and a very highly ranked entertainment show.
So do your thing, man.
And one question for you.
Because this time of the basketball program kind of started after the lifetime
contract, is there any chance that can,
Cal kind of did that on purpose because he wants that buyout?
No.
He's not losing on purpose.
I appreciate the call.
I mean, they want to win.
You can see it on his face.
I mean, you could see how much losing ways on him.
I'm never going to believe he doesn't want to win.
I've also never believed, though, well, he only cares about the NBA.
I don't believe that either.
He wants to win.
His philosophy is that you win by having NBA guys, whether that works or not, is time tells.
but like he wants, of course he wants to win.
And it's funny, you're right, there is a criticism of us that is we're football first guys.
That's hilarious if you follow the first 10 years of our career where I always got
complained out about being basketball first and not caring about football.
And so it's, it's, that has flipped over time the way people see that.
But look, I love UK football.
I enjoy it.
I'll be honest with you.
The basketball games have mattered to me since I was four years old.
We get asked a lot.
Would you rather have a Final Four or a football SEC title?
We often say football SEC title because it's rarer,
but I'm going to be honest with you.
I love UK football.
Nothing makes me more excited than the NCAA tournament,
and I don't think anything will.
I mean, this is, the NCAA tournament is my favorite time of year in sports.
It's one of my favorite times, period.
but it's my favorite time of year in sports.
And so losing bothers me.
And I hope that Cal wins it all this year because everything will be so much more fun, Ryan, if it happens.
Our life, like I said, in this state, is just better when the basketball team is having success.
Heck, yeah.
Everybody's happier to go to work.
Everybody's happier to go see your in-laws.
Everything's a little better when you can talk.
Kentucky basketball wins.
It's infinitely better.
Everything is better.
Every piece of business that KSR has,
this radio show is the only thing
that's kind of immune to winning or losing.
Everything else, the bar, the website,
the pregame show, the post-game show,
OVW, literally everything
is better when we're winning than when we're losing.
So, of course, we want them to win.
And to be fair to Cal, he wants them to win too, Drew.
I mean, the idea that he doesn't care, I just think is absurd.
Yeah, he wants them to win, and I'm sure everyone listening, whatever they do in life,
they have the same circumstance.
When Kentucky loses, you're in a funk, whatever you're doing the next day, it's just not the same.
They've done studies about the business community in Lexington.
When Kentucky wins, the economy in Lexington is better than when they lose.
The city has done studies to show that impact.
That's what happens when you're the most passionate fan base.
You live and die with it.
When it's in a funk right now, we consider and argue what's wrong, what's right.
But the day, just winning is going to make it all better.
Just win.
Who's next?
Ed.
Ed.
Ed.
What's up, Ed?
Hey, man.
I got a question and two comments.
First question is, when will the official for the new OC?
I didn't hear what you say.
When will what?
Well, will it be official for the OC?
And everything will be finalized.
Oh, I don't know.
You know, they haven't said anything.
I've placed some calls to try to, like, make sure it was going to be him and have gotten no return calls.
But I'm going to assume it's still on.
There may be a period where they have to wait to, like, go through the state laws for posting and all that.
I assume it'll be soon, but we have not gotten the announcement yet about Bush Hamden.
So I don't know.
Okay.
And then the two comments, when Cal Perry has a senior moment and he don't know who to start or who to put in off the bench or when they'll go to zone, we should have the cheerleaders hold up signs and we can help him out.
All right now.
I appreciate the call.
He's not.
I don't, I think he, I don't think he forgets or anything what to do.
I just think in the moment, Cal just, he's like frantic, you know what I mean?
he's trying to figure out what's going to work
because he sees play after play
of it not working
and he's just trying something, you know?
So the biggest complaint I'm getting
you guys probably hearing the same thing
is about why he didn't play Dillingham in the second half.
I think that's a little unfair though.
We scored 52 points.
That's what I think Cal is the last 13 seconds
that's all my complaint is
because you don't need defense there.
Yeah.
I actually will take up for Cal and not playing
Dillingham in the second half.
We were kind of rolling off in.
That's what he said on the coaches show last night.
We were playing so well.
I do think he should have been in on the last play.
But the problem at the end of the game was not that we weren't scoring.
It was that we couldn't guard anyone, and I'm not sure he's going to be better with that, right?
Yeah.
He just said that group was playing so well, and he didn't want to put Rob in cold.
I think it's what he said last night.
I still, though, on the final play, would rather have him than Hugo.
Yes.
You know, he has to be in on the final play.
He has to be.
That dude is going to be in the NBA All-Star game one day.
I wish you'd played more minutes.
I understand the argument.
Edwards and the do are playing well.
But on that last possession,
where all you need is a shot, he has to be in.
Hey, Masterson Station, Clark's Pump and Shop has a new location on Lucille Drive.
What?
What?
There's a new Clark's Pubby Shop on Lucille Drive?
February 27th, Ryan is going to leave this bar and walk there during the show.
And when he's there, he'll find Hanger 54 pizza,
crispy, crunchy chicken, and perfectly Cajun every time.
Deli sandwiches and more at Clark's cat.
Cafe. Two weeks from now, he'll walk from here to there, and you can get the Clark's Pump and Shop app for specials of all your favorite drinks and five cents per gallon on fill up rewards at Clark's Pumpin Shop. Have you time to make sure you can get there before the end of the show? You've already told me you want to stop for donuts. Yeah, it's a bad sign. It's going to be close. It's about a two-hour walk. I wouldn't be stopping for donuts. Then don't stop. Start during the pre-share. Clark's got donuts. Get there, donuts when you get there. That's true. I can just get a donut at the finish line. I'll actually win.
to the Clark's Pubby Shop on Lucille and filled up
just to guarantee that it was there and open
and not just... He's got to touch it.
He's got to touch it. I've got to figure it out.
That's always been your problem in life. You don't believe anything
until you touch it. We will take a break and be right back
here at KS. Barr's Kentucky Sports Radio.
To talk to Matt Jones and the crew, call the Clark's
Pump and Shop phone line at 859-280-2287
or 1-800-606-4-2-63
and send us the Kentucky-branded tweet of the day.
tweeting Matt at KY Sports Radio.
Yeah, so I was jamming to this at Linus.
It's amazing that they were at their peak and they go into Little Biddy
Linens for a concert.
I think they, I think the lead guy, Shannon, isn't he on Jimmy Kimmel now?
Isn't he one of the band members?
He may be.
I don't know.
I think he is.
I think I could be completely wrong about this.
But I think this guy, the main guy's part of, this was huge.
This stuff for like six months.
Shannon.
Yes.
This,
Cherry Poppandaddies,
Brian Setser Orchestra,
yeah.
Real big fish.
You call it Ska?
Ska.
Try it.
Ska.
This is Mighty Mighty Bossones
for the podcast listeners
who can hear it.
Yeah, this is Mighty,
Mai Bostone.
Sorry podcast listeners.
Hey, by the way,
I keep getting asked about the music
on the podcast.
We hope they,
I mean,
I do think one day
it will get worked out.
I'm not sure it will be
anytime.
So, I mean,
I do think it will
get worked out at some point. What I'm probably going to do in the off season, though,
is I'm going to Shannon have listeners send in their songs. I'm going to let you all put,
don't send them yet, because I'm not doing this till after the season, but have people send
songs. And Shannon, I've been told that if you're, if Alice Bluegown will play Werewolves of London,
we can use that. Oh, is that right? Yes. Wow. Okay. So I think you all ought to record a version.
Can you see if you can do that?
The, why, can you do that?
I'll bring you in for that.
No, no, it's you.
You're the singer.
No, I don't think it'll work if I'm doing it.
So that will be good.
Maybe we can play some of the bands that listen to us.
They can have some music.
I think it's an awesome idea, actually.
Get some original music on from a local band.
The Sweet 16 draw happened yesterday.
I won't read all the regions, but here's what you need to know.
The basketball bracket ended up being pretty balanced, right?
Top and bottom pretty balanced.
if the best teams win, you could have four of the best five teams in the final four,
which is what you want.
Yes.
Right.
A lot of times it ends up where the four powers are in one bracket.
Only one of them is going to survive out of there.
So, yeah, it's kind of spread out.
And the only reason it's four out of five is two of the top five are in the same region.
So they're going to, so Lexington Catholic and somebody.
Great crossing.
Great crossing are going to have to play in the regional.
There's nothing you can do about that.
It's a shame, yeah, when Frederick Douglass beats both of them comes out of that region, though.
Yeah, I'm worried about what Madisonville is going to do to all the Travis Perry fans when he doesn't even get to go to Rupp.
So Lyon County got the easiest draw.
Yeah, he did.
They did. They got a good draw.
So, Lyon County, Travis Perry's got a chance to have a real path to the semis that's pretty easy.
Now, on the girls' side, the two best teams in the state are George Rogers Clark and Sacred Heart.
They've been the two best teams in the state for the last three years, right?
They drew each other in the first round.
How about that?
First round, the whole girls tournament might be decided on day.
two.
Didn't they meet for the state title?
No, they've met in the semis.
In the semis, okay.
They've never got, but they've met the last two years,
and now they get each other in the first round.
Wow.
Look at the draw, man.
Like I said, the boys kind of spread out,
girls, boom, two powerhouses right out of the gate.
So I don't know if we're going to be able to go to any of it
because it's during the NCAA tournament.
It does feel like, though,
they find a way every year to have two mountain teams play each other
because the 14th and the 15th got each other.
in the first. We've got to have at least one mountain team
go to the quarterfinals, right?
Well, the 13th region, we've been down there to the
Corbin Arena and done it the last couple of years
with course of the Reed Shepherd draw.
Harlan is good this year. Harlan is good this year.
Yeah, Trent Noah is like he's signed
with South Carolina. He did. Harlan County
has a guy that's going to South Carolina.
Lamont Paris seems to know what he's doing, so.
That dude can ball, too.
And as excited as I am for the Sweet 16, I hope we're not at it.
Because two years ago, I was at the St. Peter's
game. In the next afternoon, I was watching
high school basketball Rupp Arena and that is not going to happen again this year.
I hope you're right.
Who's up next?
Kentucky Joe.
Kentucky Joe.
How are you, sir?
I'm doing pretty good.
Chester made me feel good.
Did he?
I'm glad to hear that.
I mean, after hearing that speech it is, oh, God bless him, Chester.
That's right.
God bless him.
How are you doing?
I'm doing pretty good.
I mean, we're heading toward Valentine's Day.
I got to see my friend tomorrow, my lady friend tomorrow.
Oh, Joe.
Joe, I'm going to give her some bourbon balls.
Why not?
Yeah, yeah, you are.
So, Joe, what do you do with your lady friend on Valentine's Day?
Well, well, I have to be truthful.
We plan to do a lot of kissing.
Whoa.
Slow down, Joe.
I don't think you can say on the radio what he's going to do.
Yeah, Joe, you're going to do a lot of kissing.
Well, that's kind of, that's, that's, that's,
nice. Don't don't tell us her name because I don't want that.
But like, can you tell us about her, like just so we know what what Kentucky Joe's kind of type is?
She's slender. She's a little bit, I mean, a little bit older than I am.
Oh, wow. How old are you? A very nice person. And she wants to meet me, see me pretty soon on my birthday.
But I ain't going to tell you, you got mad at me a long time ago.
I didn't.
I never got mad at you.
How old are you, Joe?
I don't think I know.
I'm Medicare plus four, and that makes me 69.
And how does she?
How does she?
Huh?
How does she?
Do what?
Her?
Yes.
That's a secret, Matt.
What celebrity does she look like?
Yeah, that's a good question.
What celebrities does she look like?
Well, to me, she looks like Taylor Swift.
Okay.
Good.
Wow.
She can't sing to her.
You sing to her.
Well, that's nice.
So it's kind of like you're kind of Kentucky's Swift and Kelsey combo,
you and this unnamed lady.
Hey,
I know we're talking basketball.
Not really.
No.
I'm talking about your Grammy Squammy here.
Listen, I hope things go well on Valentine's Day.
I'll tell you what, because there's a lot of ladies
that kind of wish they were in her.
place. So just give us a
Valentine's Day message
for all the ladies of Kentucky,
Joe. I mean,
a song?
Yes. Okay. A quick
song. We only got like 30 seconds.
It's going to be
Valentine's Day.
You'll get chocolates and a bunch
of kisses and you're always
there for me each day.
Love you, Ryan, my love, and I love you just so fine.
I love you in the morning.
I love you every night.
All right, there you go.
I feel like he said Ryan.
I thought I heard that, too, that made me feel really uncomfortable.
Did you say Ryan, Joe?
No, I didn't.
I think you did.
All right, Joe, well, thank you very much.
Hey, hey.
I appreciate it.
We got to go to break.
Eric, it's like a pearl jam song.
There you go.
Kentucky Joe is a Swifty.
That's my Kentucky branded love song of the day.
Go to Kentucky branded.com for your UK gear and KSR gear.
We are here at KSbar.
Come out and have lunch.
Maybe Ryan will sing to you.
We'll take a break.
Come back.
Hour number two is KSR.
