Welcome everyone, Kentucky Sports Radio Wednesday, February the 14th. I'm Matt Jones. Happy Valentine's Day to everybody in Big Blue Nation. It is a happy Valentine's Day as Kentucky wins last night over Ole Miss, what was it, 74-62.
Starting point is 00:02:31 Is that right? 7563. 7563. You can give us a shout. We'll do the 30-second shot clock, Shannon, so we can get a lot of reactions from the game. Clark's Puppet and Shop phone line 859-2-80-2287. A-Vision Auto Glass Text Machine is 772-7-7-4,
Starting point is 00:02:49 and this edition sponsored by the T.J. Smith Law Office. If you call T.J., he'll make them pay. Big win for Kentucky last night, which I want to talk about. But first, it's Valentine's Day. You guys both have big dinner. plans, right? Yeah. Where are you going?
Starting point is 00:03:04 We're going to Jeff Rubies. I can say it now because I gave her the gift last night. Oh, yeah. Well, when did you get that reservation? I feel like, don't they, they probably booked those up early. Yeah. Or did you like pull 30 days in advance? Did you do a, don't you know who I am?
Starting point is 00:03:21 No, I was watching. 30 days in advance, they opened it up for reservations. And on that day, by the time I got in, the only thing was left was 9 o'clock. I had almost missed it, but I got one. Got one. Got one. But you know, you're Ryan Lemon. You probably could have gotten in there.
Starting point is 00:03:35 I don't think so. All right. So 9 o'clock tonight. Yes. People don't have to come up there. I think you could have your night. Now, what are you doing, Drew? I think I'm going to Frank Indinos.
Starting point is 00:03:47 Yeah, you said that the other day. That's right. We'll see. We're winging. Shannon, what about you? Netflix and chill. That's what I'm doing tonight. That's pretty much every night.
Starting point is 00:03:55 Yeah, I mean, pretty much. Yeah, we're going to do that tonight. And then Friday, we're actually going out for our Valentine's. Dinner. Well, good. How about you? Too many people. You know, this is usually a skyline night for me.
Starting point is 00:04:08 Yeah. What will you seriously do tonight on Valentine's Day? What is tonight? Wednesday? Wednesday? Yeah, I don't, I don't know. I'm not sure. There's got to be some like singles meetups.
Starting point is 00:04:20 Go to a party. Watch Netflix. Go to a bar. What? Do you want to go over and watch Netflix? No, I don't need to come to your Valentine's Day. Didn't you go to White Castle one year because they had to go to a night? No, no.
Starting point is 00:04:30 I went to Skyline. But back there were years, Drew's right, there were years ago. I don't think they still do this. But they would do. I went to Skyline one time not realizing it was Valentine's Day. And I walked in and there were white tablecloths everywhere because they do a Skyline Valentine. And I walked in and they asked me if I had a reservation. And I said, what?
Starting point is 00:04:53 And they were like, it's Valentine's. And they go, don't worry, we have one table. So all around me were all these people having their romantic. skyline dinner and then there I was by myself but I still got the white tablecloth. Yeah. And I rose on your table. Yeah. I mean, it was still, it was very romantic for me and my thoughts.
Starting point is 00:05:12 Actually, it was me and my magazine. I think I read a magazine. Oh, one of those nights. Yeah. And it's exactly right. I read my New Yorker by candlelight and I thought that was pretty good. That sounds awesome. I should cancel what I have going on.
Starting point is 00:05:27 Do that. Grab a couple, a couple mags. Send yourself a Valentine. So, no, I mean, it'll be a great Wednesday night. You know, tomorrow I'm going to Monticello. You've got to get some rest. Airport Road. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:39 Airport, I finally figured out where it was. Monticello Chamber of Commerce, annual chamber dinner. And I also learned that, don't worry, Monticello Pool Hall, still the same thing. The owner died, but his son is still running. So the burgers are going to keep going. I've heard the burgers are still very solid. Nice. The chamber dinner is a dinner, so I don't know if I'm going to be able to get the burger.
Starting point is 00:06:03 But yes, and we're in London tomorrow. We're in London in the morning at the Don Franklin Ford. Ford. Don Franklin Ford in London tomorrow. And we're giving away tickets to senior night. Oh. Which is who? That's Vanderbilt?
Starting point is 00:06:18 Vanderbilt. So for tomorrow in London, if you're in the area, I'm giving away tickets to UK Vanderbilt Senior Night. That'll be Antonio Reeves and Trey Mitchell's senior night. We actually have a senior who's played here multiple years tomorrow night. How odd is that to have a really a real senior night here at Kentucky? Yeah, so I actually think it'll be a very nice senior night, don't you think, with those two guys? Antonio Reeves is going to Mitchell, Mitchell, both. They both have played really well, and of course, we're worried about Mitchell with the injury.
Starting point is 00:06:48 We don't know, right? We don't know what's going. I did see, it feels like he, you could read his lips, and he said, like, I think I said, dislocated my shoulder. We're at full strength for the first time all season for 24 minutes. And 24 minutes, Trey hurts his shoulder. So when you dislocate your shoulder, is that, I mean, I know it's fixable at some point, but is it fixable?
Starting point is 00:07:11 Like, can he get back this year? I think you could probably play. It's going to be sore. They're going to have a lot of therapy. Tell me. I don't know. I've always, not always, but you know you see people like snap it back into a place and just get back out there.
Starting point is 00:07:23 I mean, that's obviously not one is severe. We don't know what he has. He has an x-ray. but I would think there's some you could get back pretty quickly. Jen, I feel like you'd be an expert in this. Can you, like, undislocate your shoulder? Sure you can. Yeah, I've seen wrestlers do it.
Starting point is 00:07:35 They just pop it right back in. Continue on with the match. You can do that if you're tough enough. That's right. So hopefully, hopefully it'll be fine. He's tough enough. All right, well, I hope so. What did you think they started him?
Starting point is 00:07:48 I mean, you know, he'd missed a couple games, DJ'd missed a couple of games. They're both in a starting lineup. I'm fine with that. Well, okay, so I don't, I don't, I don't care who starts so long as it doesn't hurt the game. We had an early lead, so I don't think who started mattered. In the second half, with how well Shepard was playing, I thought he probably should have started the second half.
Starting point is 00:08:11 But in general, it doesn't matter. Listen, I thought they played really well last night. I thought probably the best defense they've played. I think Cal said since the first half of the Georgia game. I agree with that. I would agree with that. I thought they did a lot of things really, really well. to be honest with you.
Starting point is 00:08:28 Reed was really good. Reed was really good. You know, Reeves scored, Edward scored, Dillingham scored. I thought the balance was good. I didn't really think anybody played badly. And so I was generally, Drew, pretty happy about the game.
Starting point is 00:08:42 Yeah, they kind of changed up the style a little bit. Showed a little progress defensively. Still ways to go there, but it was a step forward. That's all we wanted to see. And then, you know, I guess Reeves was the high score, but it was only 15 points. That's low for him. I'd say most of the game.
Starting point is 00:08:56 guys were maybe below their average when the team had 75, so they got a nice convincing win, but kind of showed a different formula doing it. And they won a game without having to score 90, you know. I thought we did give up open shots and they missed them, and there were some people saying, well, what if they had made them? But at this point, I just want them to not give up line drive layups. So I'm okay with them shooting some threes and, you know, I mean, you look at the last few games we've given up so many shots at the rim i'm fine with you know giving up some threes and hoping they miss you know the the the defense in the first half they held old miss to 29 points that's great yeah it was awesome i mean and i credit honestly dj wagner a lot of that he's his energy
Starting point is 00:09:41 he brings and his intensity he comes out and he's getting and i think the other guys kind of fed off and justin edwards is moving towards being the defender that we hoped he'd be true i mean we said from the beginning of the year that he had the potential to be the best defender on the team and at times he looked like the worst but last night he was really good i mean there is a lineup they can it's interesting because cow has this thing where he can put an offensive lineup out there that's reeves dillingham shepherd mitchell five and they can score in bunches but they can't really guard anybody or he can put a defensive lineup up out there that's like wagner Reeves, Edwards,
Starting point is 00:10:24 Theero, whoever. Hugo. And they can't really score, but they defend well. And so I think that's I think it's hard. It's kind of a moment-by-moment thing, Drew, to figure out which one you need to have in. I think the only player that plays in both of those
Starting point is 00:10:40 is Reeves, probably. Yeah, I'm still in the camp where I think three of those four guards have to be on the court. Just about every, I don't care which of the three, but they are just so good. I think I need three of them at all times. But Edwards has each game taking a big step forward. And I don't know what comes across on TV,
Starting point is 00:10:57 but at the game, I watch him a lot. And he's just a lot more engaged than he was a couple weeks ago. Leave aside his stats and plays. There was a time where he just looked like he did not want to be anywhere near that court. He was just in such a funk. He was slouched over. I think Cal even called him out for some AAU behavior. But now he's communicating, clapping his hands, getting crowd involved.
Starting point is 00:11:15 It looks like he's got some confidence. Hugo had 10 blocks. early you pointed out he had 10 blocks with 10 minutes left in the game I thought he was going to beat narrow ones record I was excited I was poor old miss man can't shoot against us my favorite thing about that is it wasn't even a month ago Hugo in an interview said he was gonna block 10 shots in the game that was I believe after Mississippi State he did at the time on the radio it was late January and then last night I guess he told his coached last night before the game
Starting point is 00:11:45 he was going to get 10 blocks and he did he said that yeah that's what he's said in the interviews after the game last night. Wow. Look at you. See, Shannon, when he has to do the postgame show, he pays a lot of attention to what's going on. You do some show prep. Now, I woke up this morning.
Starting point is 00:12:00 I went to bed. I did not, I'm sorry, I did not listen to your post game show. What do you mean you wouldn't have? If you were up at 1230 in the morning, I don't think I would have listened to either. Well, a lot of people did. Oh, I know. Did you get calls? Oh, yes.
Starting point is 00:12:14 Full bank of calls. They are mostly negative. So that's what I was going to say. I woke up to people being like Ryan Lemon let all these people be negative. What happened? There was one guy, and he was early in the show that got on and took his time just to complain about Cal. Really, it was nothing about the game, complaining about Cal and his postgame comments. And that's where it kind of snowballed from there.
Starting point is 00:12:37 Okay. But they were blaming you. I know. I was just saying, next caller, please. I was just doing my Paul Fine Bomb. I appreciate to call. Who's up next, Billy? So do people want us to cut people off or not?
Starting point is 00:12:47 Shannon. I saw J.D. Shelburden yelling at you to cut people off. I was like, J.D., it's one in the morning. Like, he's just hoping to get through the time. Let him talk. But was it overly negative? Because it feels like you ought to be positive after yesterday. I mean, that was a nice win.
Starting point is 00:13:03 I think that was J.D. and other people's point, man, just be positive. They won the game, you know? But I do think there is, and I, let me just be clear. I can be guilty of this, too. So I'm not going to try to act like I'm above this. But I do try to remember this because I had Oscar one time sort of
Starting point is 00:13:19 nicely correct me on this and I actually, I appreciate I always remember his voice. This was years ago. I think it was the year we went to the United T and I was like, well, we went to, you know, yelling at it. I was like, we won the title last year. Everybody shut up. And Oscar was like, you shouldn't
Starting point is 00:13:35 tell fans how to fan. Right? Like you should let fans have the opinion they have about like, that's they're a fan. You know, and he was saying it very nicely. But there is a sense that we're, and this is part of the sort of divide in the fan base, is that there's this big like,
Starting point is 00:13:54 if you don't think what I think, then you're not a fan. And that's probably not a good way to feel, right? Oh, we all fan differently. Yeah. I mean, I've even said that to someone recently. They didn't like the way I reacted to something. And I'm like, well, I'm glad you enjoyed the game
Starting point is 00:14:08 and just put on a smile. I fan differently. I didn't like that particular thing and said something, moved on. I don't think people should be yelling at other fans. Now, with the same time, though, you can't, like, cuss about the players. I think you had to drop somebody. We did.
Starting point is 00:14:23 We had one. We had to drop. Yes, he used some words you just can't say on radio. What time did you finish? 130. 12.30 to 130, and I was asleep by 135. Oh, my goodness. See, I don't know how you do that.
Starting point is 00:14:33 How do you turn your brain off after that? Like, when I host one of those late ones, I'm up a little bit. Yeah. Like, I can't just immediately. I can fall asleep. I got the Vaughn in me. Bam, I'm out. The what?
Starting point is 00:14:48 My dad's family is Vaughn, V-A-U-G-H-N, and they all have that ability. And they're known for sleeping? Yep. Sleep in any time, anywhere, all day long. I'll go home and take a good night. If I were to look up the Vaughn family. Yeah. Like there'd just be an entry, like these people know how to sleep.
Starting point is 00:15:05 They'd all have their eyes close. Yep. The pictures. That's a good thing for a family to be known for. Some families are known for public service. Some are not. The vons, they're known for sleeping. That's a good sleeping group, those vons.
Starting point is 00:15:20 I'll say this, too. I'm definitely one of the tallest vons of all the whole family. So they're short sleepers. Yep. That's good. I'm glad you got some sleep. I feel like I'm not even here right now. Like, I don't even feel like I'm in this room.
Starting point is 00:15:31 You probably stayed up a lot later than I did. I got in bed before. All you vons out there, you little tiny snoozers, we appreciate. And I'm glad Ryan got that trait. 859-2-80-2-807 we'll talk about the game i have one gripe has nothing to do with kentucky i can't watch j billis eat any more ice cream shan like that i'm that gimmick is already i mean it's not just like it's it's like well we'll talk about jillis and that ice cream we'll take a break and be right back this is kentucky sports radio to talk to matt jones and the crew call the clark's pump and shop
Starting point is 00:16:05 phone line at 859-280-2-807 or 1-800-606-4263 and send us the Kentucky-branded tweet of the day by tweeting Matt at KY Sports Radio. Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio. 859-280-2287. So people are writing in. Text machine is 772-7525254. Dislocated shoulder is okay.
Starting point is 00:16:31 You can usually come back. Separated shoulder is like two to three months. So do we have the official? It looked like to me he said dislocated, but then again in that moment, he may not be a doctor. He may not know. He just feels funny. We got a brief. Cowell just says he's getting x-rays, so I guess we'll have to wait on that.
Starting point is 00:16:50 I guess we probably won't. I guess we won't hear from anyone until Auburn game, so we might not know anything until Saturday. We need him. Oh, yes. I mean, I think it's hard for this team to kind of hit its peak if you don't have him. Because I do think Gonzaggy game is a perfect example. There's some types of teams that you really need his kind of bulk. Auburn's got that with a Joni Broom.
Starting point is 00:17:13 He's a tough dude to go out. He's a big man. And we could use Trey Mitchell trying to guard him down low. One person writes on the text machine, Matt, are you going to whine and dine your magazine to try to score points later in the night? That's not very much. Why would I want to do that? It's a good article, like whatever I'm reading.
Starting point is 00:17:33 I was reading. What are you laughing? I was thinking different magazines. Yeah, me too. Oh. I didn't know you were reading. I thought you just look at a picture. Do you just don't make those?
Starting point is 00:17:45 No. We've been having two different conversations this whole time. Now it changes the whole concept of Matt. I said the New Yorker. You said you're spending Valentine's Day with your magazine. He did say that. I did not say that. I said.
Starting point is 00:18:00 That's why I laughed. I was worried about you going on. Excuse me. You think I'm going to say that. Mother is listening. I think you should try to go to Skyline tonight or White Castle. Do they still do the thing, though? Because I don't want to be there with all the couple.
Starting point is 00:18:17 I'm thinking some places do. Yeah, I know White Castle does. I don't know if Skyline still does it. I feel like I went back another year. And they didn't do it. Are you going to Louisville? Don't you have one? No, I'll be here because we've got to be in London tomorrow.
Starting point is 00:18:29 There's one out there on Richmond Road. You know, you could do that one. All right. So just Jay Billis and the ice cream. All right. Like, listen, this is not, we all have our opinions on the ice cream. We've talked about it many times. But every time they do the Jay Billis ice cream pudding,
Starting point is 00:18:45 and this is your boy, Shannon, he's your friend. Yeah, I need it. Every time they do it, they act like none of us have ever heard about it before. And listen, I know Kentucky, this year Kentucky is getting better ratings than any other team. The Kentucky Gonzaga game on Saturday was the second highest rated sporting event this weekend. behind the Super Bowl. Right? So I know that.
Starting point is 00:19:11 But like, it's just, am I wrong that it's just a little much? And like that they all celebrate. And then Reese Davis is always like, where's mine? And like it's just, it's, I feel like that we've seen that routine 40 times, haven't we? Especially last night, they let him go into detail on how to eat the ice cream. I don't get in there and get it. He wraps it up like a dog. He does.
Starting point is 00:19:31 He eats it. First of all, way too much tongue on television. I don't need that level of Jay Billis tongue. That's too much Jay Bill's tongue. I agree with you there. You know, I'm at the game. I thought I see it. Sounds like I'm missing some fun.
Starting point is 00:19:45 He's always shatid slurping on it, you know? He's just making out with this ice cream on national television. I mean, he was having a Valentine's Day moment with the ice cream. That's how I imagine Cal eats cool with it. He's going to growl. He's fussing it. Carl Ravits for the way Carl was eating his. He's like, no, man.
Starting point is 00:20:01 Reis Davis. I met Carl Ravits. Sorry, yeah, those two always confusing. But it's just, it's a lot. Do they still present it to them? They do still. And they always show them, march it out and hand it to them. And then they were, and then they're like, the first two rows behind him were empty.
Starting point is 00:20:15 And he was like, they've all run to get the ice cream, which, you know, I just think what's going to happen is we're going to have people from around the country coming to the arena because of the J. Billis ice cream. And I just think it's like, it's a lot. He's got to be getting a cut off the cells or something. He has to, right? Some endorsement for him. Yeah, even my mom sent me a text last night. Is he an investor in that ice cream? It feels like he has to be.
Starting point is 00:20:40 It's become... It's just regular old ice cream. I mean, it's good, but it's not good. It's good, but it is unbelievable to me. Like, there's a whole part of this nation that is going to think you come to Rupp Arena and it's all the ice cream. And I don't feel like that's what we feel about it, do we? I feel like most people that I've ever talked to about it are all in agreement that it's
Starting point is 00:21:04 good ice cream, but we make way too big of a deal out of it. I feel like the next time he comes on, Shannon, he's just going to take the ice cream and rub it all over his face. I'm sure he'll be back. And, yeah, he'll take a car ramp's a toupee and rub it on there. And you're going to be like, come on, Jay. It's an ice cream. They do make way too much of it. And it's getting a little crazy now.
Starting point is 00:21:30 All right, we'll do the. 8-5-9. 2287. All right, we'll do the 30-second shot clock. Big win. Listen, we had to have that one. Now, Saturday is, Saturday's a chance to turn your season around. It really is.
Starting point is 00:21:46 You win that game. You get a lot of the stuff back that you've lost because I don't think anyone thought we could win that game even at the beginning of the year. You go down there and win, that would be a huge, huge step. All right, who's up first? Ryan. Ryan, go ahead. 30 seconds.
Starting point is 00:22:02 Yeah, just talking about the shoulder popping. out. Whenever I was a kid, I had a buddy that had a shoulder pop out like that, and we used a football under his arm like a scotch, and we popped it back in ourselves. So if they need me to come to Lexington with my football and get his arm line back out for the weekend, somebody just gave me a call. I'm going to go ahead and extend, use my extension here. So you, when your buddy, when you were a kid, first of all, how often did your buddy pop out his shoulder? You act like it happened all the time? No, no, no. This was a one-time deal. And you put a football under his arm? What is that? What do you mean?
Starting point is 00:22:35 In his arm? Yeah, kind of to use it like for a scotch. And honestly, we probably just got lucky that it popped back in. So you put a football under his arm and then just kind of pumped it and then it went back, it went back in place? Well, now he kind of straightened his arm out and we grabbed
Starting point is 00:22:51 his arm and like moved it around. Oh, my goodness. And it worked. It worked. It did work. That sounds brutal. Why didn't we do that last? Well, he acted like it was really back. I didn't feel a thing. Thank you very much. I appreciate it.
Starting point is 00:23:08 I didn't feel a thing. It was fine. I would send some medical advice if we want to trust an actual... If it comes from the internet, I'm sure it works. This is someone with a degree, I think. In what? Shoulders. We call him Doc, so I assume he does something.
Starting point is 00:23:23 He says it depends on the collateral damage, and if there was a fracture or a tear of the labrum or ligaments, the MRI will see if there are any soft tissue issues. Yeah. So it's all about this soft tissue. That's what I was going to say earlier. We got to make sure it soft tissues. It didn't sound like in the post game.
Starting point is 00:23:40 It didn't sound like Cal was overly positive or negative about it. I mean, he did the – I haven't seen him. But he also – I mean, genuinely probably hadn't. They took him off to get x-rays. So he really didn't have anything to say. He really don't know. It's the most famous shoulder injury, Billy Jack Haskins, running with his shoulder hanging in that big touchdown run he made against Tennessee.
Starting point is 00:23:57 That's going to be the most famous UK shoulder injury. His shoulder was hurt during that? I remember the run. Oh, yeah. He won an ESP for most courageous play of the year. He won an ESP. He did. I didn't know there was an ESP.
Starting point is 00:24:12 Yeah. Yeah. Are you sure about that? Oh, positive, yeah. Yeah, look at the Vig. And he can't even raise his arm to celebrate. He's like raising it like this. I'm going to see.
Starting point is 00:24:20 I'm going to look that up. I remember the play. I'm not doubted him. I'm not doubted either. I just thought that seems like pre-SP. No. That was my thought. It was ESP.
Starting point is 00:24:28 All right. I will say, when you say things like that, it tends to be. right most of the time we'll take a break be right back it's ks r t j smith personal injury attorney call tj he'll make them pay now more of kentucky sports radio presented by stockton mortgage here's matt jones welcome back it is kentucky sports radio here live at ks bar and grill uh one person writes matt did you know that the u k team physician is a uh surgeon that's specializes in shoulders.
Starting point is 00:25:05 Look at that. I did not know that. Gold standard shoulders. See? We've already, Shannon, done everything with the ankles. Yeah. Now we move up to the shoulders. Head, shoulder, knees and toes.
Starting point is 00:25:18 That's right. We are here. We are here at KS. Bargill. It's Wings Day. It is Wings Day. It is Wings Day. And remember tonight is trivia. So you got Dollar Wings All Day.
Starting point is 00:25:30 We were nominated for Best Place to Do trivia. We've won Best Place to Watch a game for like four straight, five straight years. But now we're also nominated for Best Place to do trivia, and they'll have trivia tonight, Dollar Wings, all day and night. When is yours again? Your next one? A week from Thursday is my next one. Okay.
Starting point is 00:25:47 So it's on a Thursday. Week from Thursday is my next trivia for five days. One person writes, Matt, I'm listening to show with my dad. He's in the hospital. He had major cancer surgery. Can you give Big Bob a shout out? Shout out to Big Bob. We're thinking about you.
Starting point is 00:26:03 And God bless you, sir, and your family, and we'll be praying for you. Another person writes, Matt, I listen to Postgame show. If people got mad at Ryan, they just want to get mad. He was fine, although he was sleepy like those Vaughans tend to be. You know, I'm a Vaughn. Way past my bedtime. All right. So the cats get the win.
Starting point is 00:26:27 Now you get Auburn. North Carolina lost to Syracuse. Everybody was cheering that on. And remember, that doesn't help us because that's our one good win. Yeah, really? We actually want them to win. That's our one good win of the year. Texas A&M lost to Vandy.
Starting point is 00:26:42 I'm not going to say it cost me a lot of money. Might have cost me a lot of money, Shannon. That was a podcast. I had a parlay that was like seven legs. Only thing left, Vandy, Texas A&M. Texas A&M takes the lead with one point. I feel good about it. The Vandy guy basically shoots it off his butt.
Starting point is 00:27:01 I don't mean like from his butt He throws it and hits it with his butt And it goes in the air and goes in And we lose it the buzzer I couldn't believe it I could not believe it I thought are you kidding me That was a very vandy buzzer beater
Starting point is 00:27:15 It didn't even look like a natural movement It didn't look like it was allowed in the rules It almost looked like he's playing slam ball Because he jumps real high in the air And then lands I guess someone knocked the ball So he's able to do that And then he flings it real high And it goes to it up in the air
Starting point is 00:27:27 And it went straight through Didn't even hit the rim It was the most ridiculous shot. Even Nazi Muhammad was like, can you do better than that on a Vandy buzzer-beater? I couldn't believe it. Ezra Mignon. Ezra Mignon. Nobody's better than Ezra.
Starting point is 00:27:42 That crazy shot cost you your parlay? Yes. It was going to be it. That's a bad beat. That's two buzzer-beaters that have cost me major parlies in the last week. That one's awful. That one was. I couldn't.
Starting point is 00:27:55 Vandy, Shannon, come on. Who's up next? 30 seconds. Blank. Blank. Blake, go ahead, Blake. Hey, guys, I've had both a separated shoulder and dislocated shoulder, and the separated shoulder took longer to heal.
Starting point is 00:28:08 The dislocated shoulder, I was able to pop in and out and play, like, a whole season of basketball with a dislocated shoulder and get surgery afterwards. The separated shoulder takes longer to heal, and you have less mobility with it. So when you put it in and out, could you feel it? Could you be like pop? Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. I mean, the first time it happened, I was in football, and I got popped from behind,
Starting point is 00:28:30 and I got hit. All right, there you go. We talked about this. I remember my dad had a player that his shoulder would pop out, and my dad would go out in the court and pop it back in. He'd get up and keep playing. So obviously, that's a dislocated shoulder. Separated shoulder is going to be.
Starting point is 00:28:46 It takes a while. Your dad just walked around popping kid's shoulders. Yeah, he's a Vaughn. He can do it. He was a, he was not a cherry popper. He was a shoulder popper, daddy. Yeah, Daddy. Shoulder popper, Daddy.
Starting point is 00:28:59 I can remember walking around. out there. The kid would be on the ground. I don't know why. I think that's so funny, Shannon. When I came up with it, I was like, this is a good one. The shoulder popping daddy's. It's going to be good. I was ready to give it. This has nothing to do with anything, but I was on the TikTok
Starting point is 00:29:13 last night before I went to sleep. And I learned something. I don't even know if this is true, but I like it. There's these two guys. I don't remember what the name of it. It's not the Australian guys. It's two dorky dudes. They both do the TikToks together, and they just tell each other facts.
Starting point is 00:29:28 and they all, and I like them because they act like so surprised at everything they learn. And it makes me, I think they're two dorky-dos. It's called like Dorky Dude Fact Podcast or sort. Great podcast. And they're sitting there, and they had one yesterday that I really liked. The guy gave him three facts. One of the facts I'm not sure is correct. One of the facts was that break, excuse me, break a leg.
Starting point is 00:29:54 Why did they use the phrase break a leg in, like, play? Correct. And again, you're not supposed to say good luck. That's bad luck. You're supposed to say break a leg. This guy said, and I'm not sure if he's right, but I'm going to act like he's right. You say break a leg because if you do well in an audition, you'll be in the cast. Hmm.
Starting point is 00:30:15 Oh. A little clever little. Could that be true? I believe it. I think I've seen what you're talking about. They're just doing like funny one-liner. Yes. No, this isn't a one-liner.
Starting point is 00:30:25 Like, no, they're not on a dock. It's not like a romance. I know I watched one where there's guys. just do what you're talking about, but it's pun. They're in like a studio. So then this is not a pun. Like they say these things are true. They say their facts.
Starting point is 00:30:37 Then another one was, why do they call, again, these are not jokes. They're actually saying this is true. That like, why do they call the first episode of a show a pilot? Yeah. Because they're hoping that it will get picked up and then take off. I still feel like these are jokes. I'm telling you, they're not jokes. They should call it the plane then.
Starting point is 00:30:58 not the pilot. Listen, talk to them. I'm just telling you they're explaining the origin of words. The one that I looked up, though, and is true, have you ever wondered why it's called breakfast? Yes, I do know this. Because you are breaking a fast. Did you know that?
Starting point is 00:31:18 No. And that one is actually true. I don't know if the other two are true, but that one is true that when you, the word breakfast, which doesn't make any sense, is you are breaking a fast by taking your first meal of the day. It's right there in front of us. Jim, you've heard that one before?
Starting point is 00:31:34 Yeah. Now, while we call it lunch, I don't know. I don't know. They didn't do that. It's just lunch. That's the next episode. I like how you just think they're all puns. I'm telling you, they said they're facts.
Starting point is 00:31:43 These two, they're nerdy guys. They're on the TikTok. It has to be true. They do sound like they could also double as a good little pun. It could, but I think these are facts. I don't know what it's like making facts. with two nerdy guys. With two nerdy guys.
Starting point is 00:31:58 Who's next? Poppy. Poppy, go ahead, Poppy. Yeah, getting back to the ice cream thing. I was watching the game before ours last night, North Carolina and Syracuse. Yes. And Jimmy Dykes was doing the game with, I don't know who the lead announcer was, but the lead announcer brought up the fact that UK was coming up and we'd have to watch
Starting point is 00:32:18 Jay Bill is eating ice cream and Jimmy Dykes was down at it. He said, I don't know what the big deal is. That ice cream is not. that good. Wow. So could we have a Billis, Jimmy Dykes fight about the ice cream? Maybe. All right.
Starting point is 00:32:35 Sorry, almost took a second there. It's because maybe we get a little showdown next time Dykes is on, and he just takes the other side. Like, you know what, this is not good. And it just throws it down. Ice cream wars. Ice cream wars at Rupp Arena. That's right.
Starting point is 00:32:47 Jimmy Dykes, I was amazed to watch. I didn't know he did games that were not SEC. Yeah. He was on that North Carolina Syracuse game. I didn't think he was allowed north of the Mason-Nixon line because he only does SEC games and he was in Syracuse. Jimmy's Jet put a little more fuel in it and had new parts of the country. I also, because I saw tweets about him talking about the ice cream,
Starting point is 00:33:07 and I thought, is he doing our? I was so confused. I didn't know where he was talking about our ice cream. I've never seen him do a game that was not an SEC game ever. Are you a fan of the backward cam when they show people eating ice cream backwards at Rupp Arena? First of all, I think it's funny, right? Like for people who don't know, if you haven't been to a game, they have a camera where they film somebody eating and then they run it backwards. So it looks like they're taking the food and pulling it out of their mouth.
Starting point is 00:33:36 What? Yeah. No. So like think about somebody. My mom was repulsed by it. Like my mom thought it was the most disgusting thing in the world because it's like, imagine somebody sitting there eating nachos. Shannon, they pick it up after it's in their mouth. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:33:52 Looks like they're pulling nachos out of their mouth. Yep. Or like they're throwing up the ice cream. Yeah, no, it makes it look like they're throwing food up into their hands. Are you a fan? I thought it was funny, but my mom was so repulsed by it. She was like, this is the grossest thing I've ever seen. What an odd thing.
Starting point is 00:34:10 I guarantee you, I don't have a doubt whatsoever that it is hurting sales and Rupp Arena because I have had several people tell me they're afraid to eat there, and they're dead serious. They're like, we eat before we come now because we don't want to be on this. screen. Oh, yeah. And I have a friend, he was eating in the concourse and I laughed. Hide from the cam. He said, absolutely. Like, people are afraid to eat and they're afraid to eat because they film you when you can't see it. Yeah, you don't know when you're being filmed. And so the worst is if people are eating a hot dog because it looks like they're just pulling this big thing out of their mouth. They don't do that one, do they? Oh, yes. They do it. Oh, yes. You know, Rufferin is so conservative
Starting point is 00:34:48 about everything. Like, the music is still, let's all go. down to Dooms Walker. Like they still don't, like they don't do anything modern. But that I've always thought is a little, it's a little risque. I think a little bit. It's a twisted sense of humor. And yet, I do laugh. But I will say, it's been a long time since I've seen my mom that repulsed by something.
Starting point is 00:35:12 As she was that, that cam. It gets a big reaction. They do it in most games. They have a new lookalike cam. I wish they'd stop doing. It gets weird occasionally. Maybe leave that one in the past. to the SnackWords School.
Starting point is 00:35:23 But there are a lot more video things to your point. There's a lot more to keep the crowd going. I'm not criticizing the Snack Words Cater. I like it. I kind of like it. Our friends at Commonwealth Causes are excited to not announce the launch of Club Blue. Let's hear about it. It's a VIP subscription service.
Starting point is 00:35:38 100% of the proceeds go to NIL. And you pick the sport that you want to give it to. Okay. So you can say I want to give it to football, basketball, volleyball, track, whatever you want. and they offer experiences in those sports, including VIP in-game experiences. They've been great. We gave away tickets last night from Commonwealth causes here.
Starting point is 00:36:00 So learn more at Clubbluenil.com. That's Clubbluenil.com. The Commonwealth causes people. If you do this, especially if you were to do one of the other secondary sports, you get to do some cool stuff. Clubblue. com. We'll take a break right back.
Starting point is 00:36:16 We're here at KS. Barr. Thank you to the guy who brought me nerd gumming clusters, by the way, though. Four boxes. I don't know if I'm going to eat all of them today, but I'll like it. We'll take a break. Be right back. To talk to Matt Jones and the crew, call the Clark's Puppet Shop phone line at 859-280-2-807 or 1-800-606.
Starting point is 00:36:34 And send us the Kentucky brandit tweet of the day by tweeting Matt at KY Sports Radio. A lot of people have strong opinions about the snack words cam. Most people seem to really like it. Some people not as much. You said you got sent a video of it, Shannon. I'd like to post it. Because if you haven't been to a game, you need to see what it looks like. Yeah, I'm seeing it for the first time.
Starting point is 00:36:54 It looks really weird. Send me that video. I'd like to post that. I've done a couple posts on it. We've got several around. They also play Hungry Eyes, which really adds to it, the song. Yeah, they also have them where it's like they're drinking a beer, so it looks like they're spitting a beer out, like a whole.
Starting point is 00:37:13 It'll look like someone's throwing their drink back up into their cup sometimes. Yeah, it's so, it's really weird. It is. 859-280-2287. There was a marriage proposal last night. Yes. It was. The guy had apparently Camel pants.
Starting point is 00:37:31 I didn't notice that. Yeah. That's what you took from it? Billy pointed that out to me. The guy obviously knew he was going to do it. Already had plans made. And he wore camo pants to the ceremony. So I said he had to be 13th region.
Starting point is 00:37:46 Don't you think? Apparently he's from Cynthia. Okay. I would have bet anything. He was 13th region. Cynthia. Well, 859-280-2287. So apparently, breakfast, correct.
Starting point is 00:37:58 Cast, correct. There's some dispute about pilot. There's some people who have a different thing about pilot. One person says the word for pilot also, where'd that go? Oh, it's called a pilot because a pilot flame on a furnace is the first flame that allows the furnace to get stored. Any of you know anything about furnaces? You got to light the pilot light. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:38:25 Yeah. That makes more sense than to take it off. Yeah, it does. That you said earlier. Okay. But the, okay, and the name of the nerds are, uh, no, I mean, I say this with love. They, they, I enjoy their, I subscribe to their thing. The makeshift project.
Starting point is 00:38:41 And you'll see, it's too nerdy guys, and they give facts and lists. And I, I like it. The makeshift project. I want to see it. Okay. 859-280-2287. The Vince Marrow was named number 10 recruiter in the entire country. Under-ranked.
Starting point is 00:39:03 I want to meet the other nine. Yeah. How can you out-recruit that guy? That's a bad ranking for him. That's a great honor, though, if you did about it, at Kentucky to be the number 10 recruiter in football in the country. I mean, like, he's, if you look at the other guys in the top 10, They're all at like Ohio State, Bama, Georgia, and then there he is at 10. I mean, that's a great, great honor, if you think about it.
Starting point is 00:39:27 Dude, we've said it many times. He's doing things I thought, we all thought could never be done here. Get guys to come out of Ohio that are considering Michigan, Ohio, State, Alabama, and pick Kentucky. I mean, it's amazing what this man has been able to do. And he's been here from the beginning. I mean, we talk about assistic. Think about how many offensive coordinators we've had. I mean, we've had Neil Brown.
Starting point is 00:39:48 Shannon Dawson, Eddie Grand, Liam Cohen, Scangarello, Liam Cohen again, and now Bush Ham, we've had seven offensive coordinators, and Vince Merrow has still been the recruiting guy the whole time. That level of stability is huge. Yeah, for Merrow and all the coaches that are on the recruiting trail, they're having to go out and answer these questions like, who's the coordinator? Well, get back to you on that. Well, heck, just a week ago, I mean, he probably, the recruit had a good idea,
Starting point is 00:40:16 but Vince went out and got an offensive commit the day after, Cohen left. That was amazing. He got a commitment from, what, a wide receiver? Yeah, it was like a just a day or two. We didn't even have an offensive coordinator. A four-star ride receiver too, wasn't it? I mean, this is like a legit prospect. So big shout out to Vince. I mean, that is quite, quite an honor for a dude at a school like this to be to be on that. Mr. Munner sell his coaching ability as a tight-ins coach. Well, we've had a great tight-in. I know, yes. I mean, we have. We've had a pretty good, pretty good run-up.
Starting point is 00:40:47 All right, who's next? 30 second shit Kyler Kyler go ahead Kyleer okay I don't think I've seen a Kentucky team and I'm almost 30
Starting point is 00:40:57 I'll be 30 here in a few months I don't think I've ever seen Kentucky that can make me this mad and this happy all in the same game I actually think that's a pretty good point I appreciate the call I think what's interesting
Starting point is 00:41:12 about this Kentucky team is this is a team that I think we said this a couple days ago the fan base really wants to love. They really like watching them play. They really like the individual pieces, right? Like, you know, usually, and I, if you go back to teams that have disappointed Kentucky fans over the years, there's always been a player, honestly, unfortunately, that has been sort of the center of the frustration for fans. Severe Wheeler, Devin Askew, Kalil Whitney, Archie Goodwin.
Starting point is 00:41:46 like there's always been, you know what I mean, there's always been somebody that people get, I don't think people have any frustration with the players. I actually think part of the frustration is we love these guys so much. Just play better, don't you think? I agree with you. This is a very likable team. They seem to really like each other. I think the fans like all the players.
Starting point is 00:42:09 And we want them to succeed, you know. And we get frustrated at times, but at the same time, like the caller said, They can make us, you know, cheer one minute and cry the next. We want them to succeed. I think you could argue. Now, Oscar was extremely popular last year, Drew. So I, but I think you could argue that Dillingham and Shepard are amongst the most popular players we've had here in a long time. Oh, oh, absolutely.
Starting point is 00:42:34 That's why I think pretty much universally across the fan base, they adore this team. That's why it's a little weird to me when Cal yells, don't talk down on these players, keep it on me. it's like no one's even talking about you. Everyone loves these players. I feel like there's fan favorites across the board. Robin Reed stick out. People love Jordan Burks and he barely even plays. He has a great at it.
Starting point is 00:42:53 Bradshaw. Bradshaw's had some bad games, but he's a fun kid with a great attitude. Bradshaw sits the bench like the first 17 minutes. This is why Kentucky fans, while we always get a bad rap nationally. For 17 minutes, he doesn't play. They bring him in with three minutes left,
Starting point is 00:43:09 and as he comes in, the crowd gives him a big ovation. Almost like they felt like they needed to pick him up. for not playing. See, we don't get credit for that. That is, that's a smart fan base that cares about the players. And on a selfish level, like when people, again, when people give the stupid argument that we don't want Kentucky to win, I sit there and think, if we have a great ending to this season, think about what the Reed Shepard and Rob Dillingham autograph tour is going to be like. The line will be down the sidewall. It'll be like, it'll be as big as we've seen since Devin Booker, probably, right? I think it'll be number one.
Starting point is 00:43:44 I think it'll pass all of them. I mean, Reed Shepard, I just say here and think, if he's set right here, my goodness, I mean, you'll get Dillingham's the same way. You know, so I just, I think this team, what's interesting about this group is, I think a lot of the frustration comes from how bad Kentucky fans want them to be good. Yeah. You know, they really, really do. We're going to take a break.
