Reed Shepherd already as we are in his hometown and as he's had a breakout year. How proud are you guys of Reed Shepherd?
Starting point is 00:03:09 It is very cool, Ryan, to see a kid from Kentucky have the success he's had this year. And, you know, I think this entire part of the state feels some sort of, you know, pride knowing that this kid came from the 13th region. He could have gone to one of these prep schools and played for somebody else. He wanted to stay here and finish at his high school career at North Laurel. Yeah, I think that's a key part. A lot of guys in today's world, I mean, it's not like when I went to high school. A lot of kids in today's world of that talent would have gone somewhere else.
Starting point is 00:03:38 He stayed here, played well, went to two state tournaments, is that right? I went to two state tournaments and now fulfilling what probably is every mountain kid's dream to get to play for Kentucky and not just play, be good at Kentucky. Yeah, we're in the middle. There's no bigger fan base of Reed than right here. and I think even everyone here would be surprised by how he hit the ground running at UK and what kind of freshman year he's had so far. So, I mean, there's Reed Shepherd fans everywhere at this point,
Starting point is 00:04:04 but I think this is ground zero of Reed Shepherd fans, and they're very proud of him. So in London, as I was coming off where this is exit 38, Ryan, off I-75, I was, you guys add more new restaurants. They do. Like I remember coming through here, it used to be, Shannon, your place. Yeah. Fazoli. Oh, love it.
Starting point is 00:04:24 And now there's, I saw there's a slim chickens coming in. There's something new every day. London, as my grandma would say, growing like a weed, right? London is, yeah, you know, when I first got here, it was just one high school even, Laurel County High School, split into those two high schools, and it continues to grow. They may have to build a third high school down here. Yes, this is, in my opinion, the gateway to the mountains is London.
Starting point is 00:04:48 Do you consider London the mountains? I do, because it's in the 13. Some are saying, yes, some are saying, no. that's interesting. No, no, it is. It's actually not, it's not, there are not mountains right here, but you can see it. But you can see them. It's the gateway, though. It's the gateway to the mountains. I think this is like the, and this is the base of the mountain right here. This is where Eastern Kentucky University probably should be. Yes. It's in Richmond, but that's not where, that Richmond is not Eastern Kentucky. I think if you were redoing it, you'd probably put Eastern Kentucky here because it's
Starting point is 00:05:24 probably the most accessible point in the mountains. Let's pick it up and move it right now. Let's pick up the entire campus. It'd be kind of hard to do. They built a whole city around it, but that's what I would say. You're right, though. This is kind of, you know, if you consider the 13th region of mountains, London is coming north.
Starting point is 00:05:41 This is the gateway going into the 13th region and in the mountains. A beautiful part of the state. So there's a lot of stuff to get to Kentucky plays Auburn on Saturday. Drew Auburn just. Oh, boy. They just won by 40. By the way, Auburn got one of the, I think it was the biggest win over a top 50, over a top 15 ranked team since like 1991 last night against South Carolina.
Starting point is 00:06:07 Oh, my good. That's not what we wanted to see. I bet on South Carolina. That did not go well. I mean, they shot 60% from the field, 60% from three. And there are two big men who we were already worried about going to that game, hit nine of 12 threes. Like what in the world are you supposed to do about that?
Starting point is 00:06:26 Let me give you the most... South Carolina is the best defensive team in the country and lost by 40. Let me give you the most amazing stat about Auburn that I read yesterday. Auburn teams shooting layups at the rim against Auburn shoot under 50%. Now, I want you to think about that. Shooting layups shoot less than 50%, Ryan. That's pretty good defensively for a team. I don't think people think of Bruce.
Starting point is 00:06:52 Pearl teams necessarily like that, but this one is like that. Well, you know, they held South Carolina to 61 points, a South Carolina team that we saw what they did to Kentucky. But I'm with Drew, man. South Carolina just totally manhandled us on the defensive end. And how they gave up 81 points like that kind of really concerns me how good Auburn's offense must really, really be, especially if their big guys are shooting like you're talking about. Well, we will get to that game.
Starting point is 00:07:17 But I think the most important news of the day is actually something that didn't get a ton of play, but I think needs to be watched, which is the story about the SEC. If you didn't see it, a reporter reported that the SEC is going to go to nine games for football, and that that will probably be announced. I think the SEC meetings are maybe today, so potentially announced officially today. Just for the record, that's a big deal, because if that happens, a couple things are going to happen for Kentucky. It's going to be a lot harder to have really good records.
Starting point is 00:07:54 You're going to take away a game that's an automatic win, and you're going to add an SEC game. So start with that. You're going to end up playing one more SEC game. Then there's the question about whether or not we keep playing Louisville. I think Mitch Barnhart has in various interviews over the years kind of hinted that if it went to nine, maybe you'd have to drop Louisville. So let's start with this.
Starting point is 00:08:16 Let's just assume it goes to nine. The biggest advocate of it not being nine was Nick Saban, and he's out. So let's assume it goes to nine. Kentucky will end up with three rivals that they play every year. We know who we'd like it to be, but a lot of the sort of sites seem to suggest it's not going to be who we want, and it would be like South Carolina, Mississippi State, and Georgia. What if those are the three rivals Kentucky plays every year? I used the term rival loosely, because I used to term rival loosely,
Starting point is 00:08:47 Because I don't consider any of those teams really a rival, but what would you think of it? You know, it would stink to get Georgia every year, you know, the number one team in the country the last several years. We kind of were manhandling South Carolina there for a while, but they've gotten us the last two years. Mississippi State, we seem to kind of split with them. So it's any way you kind of cut it up, it's not going to be easy. Whoever pod were put in, it's going to be tough. Who do you think are, in our minds, Drew, are three biggest rivals? I would say Tennessee, Bandy, Florida would be what I would say.
Starting point is 00:09:19 We're not going to get that, but is that what you would say? I think South Carolina has moved high into that conversation. I'd probably flip South Carolina and Florida. Okay. If we lose the Louisville series, and I think that's a pretty good chance, just based on the tone anytime that's. So you do think that's God? Man, when you talk to hear from those coaches,
Starting point is 00:09:36 talking about the COVID season when they only played the SEC. They talk like they were at war. And then, like you said, Mitch Barnard, anytime it's been the day. brought up he kind of is already alluding that it might go i don't know but if it does go i think it's very important to keep tennessee at that point because i mean we don't have a hatred like we do for those two schools and if you lost both of them on the schedule every year i would hate to see that well i'm going on record as saying even if we go to nine we got we should keep loo i agree yeah i mean at the end of the day and i'm glad to hear the other argument for this but at the end of
Starting point is 00:10:07 the day the point of these football seasons is to be entertained right we have very small chance, Shannon, of winning the national championship. I don't say we have a very small chance of making the playoff. I mean, it could happen some year, but it's hard to make the playoff. So if the point of it is that we're, I mean, we're not out there trying to win a title. I mean, we're trying, but it's not necessarily realistic. Then the point is to entertain our fans and be exciting and give people something to look for. What do we would our fans rather see us play ball state or would our fans rather see us play Louisville?
Starting point is 00:10:45 I mean, I think the answer is Louisville, even though that means sometimes you will lose. No doubt. You got to play Louisville. That's your biggest rival. I don't see any scenario in which you should ever drop Louisville from any sport for that matter. I agree. So yeah, I mean, would you rather play a ball state? No, absolutely not. I don't care if that is a guaranteed win.
Starting point is 00:11:03 I would rather lose potentially than to Louisville than to play a ball state. I'm fine playing bad games in the other two games. But for me, even with nine, you got to play Louisville. You do not want to end a series that let's be honest with you. I don't know about you all. It's the game I look forward to the most every year. I mean, I look forward to Tennessee. I look forward to Louisville.
Starting point is 00:11:26 And then whoever's good or the situation. But like, so I'm forced keeping playing. Shannon, it sounds like you are. I am absolutely. Would you still want to play? I am 100% on board keeping now. game and I you know I would think South Carolina would keep their game with Clemson Florida would keep their game with Florida State you know I don't I
Starting point is 00:11:45 think Louisville brings more to this state than we realize I believe you know the more than like you said in all of these SEC games is that Louisville game you win that game a lot of times your season is saved and it feels like you're you're scared of Louisville regardless of the situation if that's the message it sends to me you are sending to Louisville the idea that you can't play they've got one over on And if I'm Louisville, I'm going to sit there and mock Kentucky into eternity. Yeah. They ended the series.
Starting point is 00:12:15 Bob, you cannot talk on the phone in the center of the crowd. He's calling in. Bob. He's got a cow on the phone. Bob, you can't talk on the phone in the center of the crowd during the show. Of course, of all people, it's Bob and Jamestown. He's talking so loud. He's not even listening to the show.
Starting point is 00:12:32 Right in the middle of the crowd. Right in the middle of the crowd. You can just walk over there. It was a really important call. It's got a call into some radio shows. So can you? Takes 10 minutes with Bob. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:12:46 What about you? I mean, I don't want to play them. No, no. It's your choice. Do you play them? Yes, but I don't think it will happen. And so I'm preparing myself. And I understand why they wouldn't.
Starting point is 00:12:57 I wouldn't go that route. But I think Mitch and UK will. I'll say that. I don't care about what. Would Drew Frank would do it? I just said I would. You would? Yeah, I said twice.
Starting point is 00:13:06 So I will say one thing. I completely disagree on the coward Louisville thing. I won't listen to Louisville on that. They will be a mid-major in a few years, and we would be replacing them with another SEC team. So the Louisville saying you're leaving, I would say, look at the record, look at the direction you're going, and look at the direction we're going, shut up on that.
Starting point is 00:13:23 Now, I do want to keep them, but if we were to leave them behind, I won't hear any of that from them. Y'all go have fun in whatever conference you're going to be in in a few years. Yeah, I mean, I'd have to disagree with you. I think because we're not replacing them with an SEC team, we're replacing them with Ball State. If you go to nine, you're replacing them with...
Starting point is 00:13:38 No, we're replacing them with Ball State because you could still play them. I mean, you could still play them. You are still able to play them. Shannon, they would still want to play us. Yeah, absolutely. And we would be walking away from that. And we'd be walking away from it to play a bad team. When you look at the schedule every year, there's maybe one or two teams you look forward to
Starting point is 00:13:58 playing the most. Lovel is one of those teams. You take that away. What did the win over Louisville do for our season last year? It saved the season. It saved it. If we didn't beat Louisville last year, we go into the thing six and six. And Ryan, I think the way that the whole staff has looked at is completely different.
Starting point is 00:14:19 Do you? Yeah, and, you know, we've got to think about the recruiting edge of it. Kentucky, you know, you don't want to lose that advantage you've got over Louisville right now, recruiting kids out of the city of Louisville. So I know we all want to, what do you think, Coach Stoops, what would he pick? I think Mitch Barnhart will do what Stoops won. And I think Stoops would lean towards not playing. And I just would have a fundamental disagreement with him on that.
Starting point is 00:14:43 You know, there was a year or a few years back where Cal kind of hinted, do we need to do this Louisville thing every year? And I was like, yes. Especially basketball. You play 30 games. But they're never going. They won't end the basketball. Let me ask you all.
Starting point is 00:14:55 You all are fans. Would you rather, how many of you think we would keep playing Louisville? Raise your hand. How many of you would say play some random team? One guy. So I'm not going to pick on you about that But I just, this is to me, Drew, what the fans would want.
Starting point is 00:15:11 No, I agree. I want it too. I'm just saying if they change, Louisville is calling me nothing because I don't see it as you're replacing with all state. I see as you're replacing Louisville with Texas or Oklahoma. You're adding an SEC game and saying, sorry, Louisville, we have new competition.
Starting point is 00:15:24 We're punching up, not going to punch it down. Now, I'm saying that as I want to keep it, but if it goes away, I'm not listening to Louisville's broke program, tell me Kentucky's doing the wrong thing. I hate to make a Louisville argument, but you can't argue your. you're replacing them with Texas, because you're replacing them with ball state. It's in our hands.
Starting point is 00:15:39 And you can't say we're only punching up when you're choosing to play a game against a team that's worse. Like, if we do it, I do think, Shannon, we're just going to have to acknowledge we're doing it because we don't play another hard team. Yeah, it's not Louisville, not wanting to play it. They want to play it. We don't. That looks bad on us.
Starting point is 00:15:54 So I'm making the other side when I agree with you, but you also have, they're both, you get two home games. There's the revenue there where you got to split with Louisville. I'm just saying there's reasons on that side. I'm still with you all. I hate Louisville, but I won't listen to them, call us. us cowards if UK goes that way. Well, they will.
Starting point is 00:16:09 859-280-2287. We are here. I do want to talk about the rivals thing because Tennessee will not be one of our rivals. No, I don't think so either. And being down here, you and I both think it should be, but I bet they don't put us there. Because they will play Vandy, they will play Alabama, and I bet they give them Florida. Florida. And we end up not getting to play.
Starting point is 00:16:32 859-2-80-22-87. We will take a break and be right back. here at Don Franklin in London. This is KS.R. Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio here live at Don Franklin Ford. Or somebody here in London is going to win tickets to UK and Vandy at the end of the show. If you are in the area, come on out and get to go to senior night. I don't, what are the chances you think, Drew, it'll be the last home game for Reed Shepard? Are you going to make me do this in London? I mean that'll just be the last game of this season
Starting point is 00:17:08 until he starts getting ready for next year in Rupp Arena after a good March Maddis run to the title So you think he'd be back for a second year? I don't want to speak poorly of Reed at all But I think as we've gone on Some of the defensive flaws just the awareness Might bring him down just a little bit enough In the draft projections to where he would stay
Starting point is 00:17:27 But that, I mean, he's still high in that conversation right now So who am I to say that? What would be your prediction? in the right right you know you and i think we all agree once you're projected as a high first-round draft pick it's a no brainer you go no matter what the situation is and right now he is so i think yeah he's he's out of here yeah if he stays as a lottery pick he's gone now if he were to somehow slide down maybe he could you know make the case that the nil money here would be so great that he could stick around another year and play his way back into the lottery but if he's a lottery
Starting point is 00:17:54 pick he's out these guys picking reed's going to leave unbelievable in london that's a good thing though for him right i think it's a it's a weak draft this year and and if you're if you're a team and you want to pick a guy that you know like i don't see a way reed fails at the next level now whether or not he's a star i'm not sure but i don't think he's going to fail and if you look at it like go look at the go look at the NBA draft projection list the front the top four or five guys most of them are from overseas and then you look at the college guys And watch those guys play and ask yourself, how many of those dudes are better for sure than Reed Shepard? It's not like a lot of years where there's like five or six guys you know are going to be.
Starting point is 00:18:39 I mean, just take, let's take Rob Dillingham, who's projected fourth or fifth in a lot of these drafts. Do I think Rob will be a better pro than Reed? Yeah. But do I think that's certain? No. So, I mean, I could see, Ryan, why you would talk yourself into that if you. you had the 12th, 13th pick and say, well, why not? This kid's not going to fail.
Starting point is 00:19:04 I think he's proved that, you know, playing this high-level competition. He's played on the AAU circuit with these guys that are supposed to be lottery picks. Read a lot of times is the best player on the floor. I think we've seen that a lot of, even this year, you know, coming in, nobody had him projected as a lottery pick, but most times he is often the best player on the floor. That's why he's in that position right now. Two somewhat sad things, and then we'll get back to, like, having a fun show. First of all, our prayers that I know everybody here is to the people in Kansas City.
Starting point is 00:19:32 Just an awful situation yesterday at a celebration for the Super Bowl, 22 people shot, one so far killed 11 of the 22 children, just absolutely terrible. They ended up having, they have the people they think did it. There was a great video of two guys tackling one of the shooters as they were running. those dudes are heroes both for doing that. But it also, I think Ryan made me particularly sad because I start to wonder, are we going to be able to have public events like that? Like, do you, you know, a million people,
Starting point is 00:20:12 you're never going to be able to totally secure an area with a million people in a city. And like, that's kind of a part of tradition of this country. You win a title, you have a parade, you do all this stuff. I don't know, man. Now it's hard to feel like that would be a safe situation. A million people were there, and then somebody just started shooting.
Starting point is 00:20:32 Yeah, I saw one of the news reports that, you know, there was heavy police presence all over the area, but still you can't stop that, man. Well, you can't secure that much area. You just can't. So, you know, the places we think were safe, churches, a parade for a Super Bowl champion, and something like that happened.
Starting point is 00:20:51 God bless those two guys, man, their heroes. That video, I hope everybody gets a chance to see that because that, out of something really horrible comes this great story of these guys, you know, tackling that guy. So it's awful. And then like holding him down until the cops are out there. Pretty amazing. It's supposed to be such a happy day. I mean, I'm watching it live on TV. I had a friend who was there with his young kids sending me pictures, tell me how fun it was. And you're just looking at the celebration of that city and what they just did.
Starting point is 00:21:15 And it ends in utter chaos and people scrambling. It's not supposed to be that way. It's awful. And then the second one, a Kentucky end up. Ryan, I know, you know more about this person, Don Gullet, who played for four straight World Series champions, including the Big Red Machine for part of it, from, is it Lyon, Kentucky? Greenup County. Lynn. Lynn, Kentucky in Greenup County, passed away, was on this World Series champ with the Big Red Machine, or played in the World Series two years, 75, 76, then went to the Yankees and they won them there as well.
Starting point is 00:21:50 The dude was Allstate in basketball, baseball, and football in Kentucky. Still holds the Kentucky record for most points scored in a game. He had 11 touchdowns and kicked six field goals in one game. Still a record. Wait a minute, he had 11 touchdowns? Yes. He scored 11 touchdowns and kicked six extra points. I think it's like for 72 points.
Starting point is 00:22:11 Most points scored in a high school game in Kentucky still. That'd be a good season. Yeah. That's not a bad season. I didn't realize he had 11 touchdown. Yeah, but then, you know, after his professional careers over, he goes to the World Series. What does he do? Moves back to Greenup County, raises tobacco on his farm for the rest of his life.
Starting point is 00:22:30 He quit at like 27, I saw. I don't know if he got hurt. Seriously, I don't remember why he ended up walking away, but he lived the rest of his life at Greenup County smoking cigarettes on his tractor, driving his tractor out there. All these pictures I've seen him when he's an older guy smoking on his tractor, just playing out his tobacco fields. You don't hear about that a lot anymore. You don't hear about Shohei Otani just going out on his tractor. We don't know what he does in this spirit time.
Starting point is 00:22:55 So anyway, rest in peace to his family as well. Who's up first? Got Dennis up first. Dennis, go ahead, Dennis. Hey, guys, how we doing? Good. What's going on? Being a football guy, I was number four of the Louisville series.
Starting point is 00:23:16 I was like coach rep. If you're on top of the mountain, why invite somebody else. on top of the mountain with you. And you're not replacing Louisville with Ball State. We've already got three breathers. You're replacing Louisville with an SEC team. The SEC nine games is too brutal. You've got to have some breathers on the schedule.
Starting point is 00:23:38 But those two arguments, though, in some ways aren't consistent. Like, we're not playing them because they're not as good as us. At the same time, we need a breather and don't want to play them. I mean, those are two inconsistent arguments, don't you? you think? Yeah, but I mean, come on, these kids, I mean, nine SEC games, that's brutal. I mean, eight NDC games. I mean, at some point, you've got to give these kids a break.
Starting point is 00:24:05 I mean, that's, I'm sure what, I appreciate to call it. That's what Stoops would say. Yeah. Kids, all right, you got it, Rick. You got to, sorry. I would argue those kids would rather play Louisville than Ball State. After that 10 game SEC season on COVID, year remember stoop saying there is no way after that do i ever want to play nine SEC games
Starting point is 00:24:24 after he had just to play 10 so that's why i think if a decision let or rest on him yeah well i hope it doesn't happen i think it would be a bad decision for the fans although it may not we'll see we'll take a break come right back here at don franklin this is tucky sports radio welcome back kutki sports radio we are here at don franklin forward in london if you're looking for a ride with more room, Shannon, how about 1.9 APR on a new 2023 Explorer plus a $1,250 rebate? That sounds like a great deal. I get it. The low interest rate and the rebate on top of that? Yeah, that's a low interest. You know, I don't follow interest rates, but I know they're high. 1.9 feels like it's pretty good, right? It feels really good, yeah. Sign me up right now. I may have to
Starting point is 00:25:08 grab that home. Go ahead and sign him up right now. You can go ahead and pay. 859-280-2287. Did anybody see the game last night? So I decided to watch it. Detroit Mercy, which is coached, by the way, by Mike Davis, former Indiana coach. You know the one that flipped out on the sideline and hit his hand against us. He coaches Detroit Mercy. Brad Cal Perry was a, did he finish his playing career? Yeah, he did.
Starting point is 00:25:35 Yes, he did. So Dick Vital coached there at one point the court is named after Dick Vitale. I'm telling you all this because going into last night, they were 0. and that they were one of only two teams in the country did not want a game. So I saw on the Draft Kings app, promo code KSR, I saw that they were favored by five and a half points, Drew. And I thought they're 0 and 26 and they're favored by five and a half points. Then I looked they were playing Ui Pui, who was two and 24. So it was a battle that I felt like I had to watch.
Starting point is 00:26:10 Battle of the losers. Oh, you watched it? I watched the last 10 minutes. Put it on ESP. It was Valentine's Day. What else was I going to do? What was in the air? Everybody else is at dinner.
Starting point is 00:26:21 I'm watching Oooey-Pooey Detroit first. So I turn it on. I'm not lied to you when I say it's the fewest people. This is not even an exaggeration. Fewest people I've ever seen in a college basketball game in my life. Now, again, you couldn't see the side with the camera, but they show behind both baskets and the other side. So essentially, I think I got two-thirds to three-fourths of the court.
Starting point is 00:26:47 I counted the entire crowd over the course of the game. I counted 38 people in the game that were not staffed. There's more people at games during COVID. I'm not kidding you. I'm not exaggerating. I counted 38 people. Now, of course, I couldn't see the side with the camera. Let's even double it.
Starting point is 00:27:09 And let's say there were 76 people there. They usually leave that side empty. Games, Detroit Mercy leads. Games over. They win. Yeah. Now, I would have thought, if you haven't won all year, you're going to be really excited. The players, they must be beat down because they didn't even really celebrate.
Starting point is 00:27:29 But, and if you haven't seen this video, you need to see it. I watched this live. One guy from the side of with the camera, so the side I couldn't see. One guy rushed the court. Yeah. All right. One guy ran out on the court and he's in center court and he's just jumping around by himself and he's looking around like, will someone join me?
Starting point is 00:27:51 Or arrest me. Get me out of this. First of all, now he didn't know one, join him, there weren't enough people to care to arrest it. He just ran out on the court. It's a great video. ESPN actually has it right now online I saw this morning. He is through the one-man court storm. I have to give that guy credit.
Starting point is 00:28:10 and Detroit Mercy should give him season tickets for life. He stormed the court with 76 people there for their first week. What are you talking about at this point? Let him be the point guard if he's that enthusiastic about it. I'm surprised there are 38 people there. Do you think there were 38 people at home watching other than you? Because here's what I was thinking is it's Valentine's Day, Shamed. Can you imagine saying, of the 38 people that I could see,
Starting point is 00:28:36 I saw only one that I thought was a woman, because I am sure, know any woman that was like if you take me on Valentine's Day to Detroit Mercy versus Ui-Pooey, I'm done. He proposed to me. Could have been on the big screen. I mean, the guy that rushed the court's obviously single, right? So he is today. So I have to tell you, I was a big fan.
Starting point is 00:29:00 And if you look up that video, I think, Ryan, you will be a fan, too, of the guy who stormed the court. I want to see it because you got to know he's probably thinking to himself, man, it's our first win. We're all going to do it. Let's go. He's leading to charge. he gets out there, looks around, he's on an island by itself. Where are you guys?
Starting point is 00:29:13 I hope his buddies were still up there. They were going to promise to do it and just left him hanging out there. And I would also like to thank, and I think it was at the same game. See, there it is. Look, they win. Now, watch, coming off the court right here, you're going to see this guy run on the court. Look at him. There he goes.
Starting point is 00:29:30 Look at him. More power to that guy, man. Also, one of the 38 people at the game put on the screen, this is how few people. people were at the game. They put him on the screen. I'll show you all here. He's reading a book. Yeah. They put on their book guy, and they even put the book down that he's reading in the graphic. Now, I would like to thank the 50 of you all that sent me that yesterday on social media. But the club is growing, Drew, of if you're at a boring sporting event, go ahead and read a book. You might have mentioned this, but did they cover? I didn't hear what the final was. Did they at least get the
Starting point is 00:30:06 cover too? Oh, wow. Good for Detroit. They won and they had covered. They had a year ago. They had the guy that was about to set the record for most points? How do you go from that to not? And Mike Davis is the coach. They have a coach who has been to the national championship and is now coaching the team that is 1 in 26. I guess you can't get fired from that job, right? If they won't fire you after 0.26, your job is safe anywhere.
Starting point is 00:30:28 I guess. The other thing, Chris Holpman at Ohio State was fired yesterday, that's a dude that I at one time thought would be the next coach Ryan at Kentucky. he was doing so well. Two years after I probably thought he would coach here, fired at Ohio State. Yeah, I don't think there's any doubt. He was on the short list if by chance Cal decided to leave at one time. He's from Nicholasville.
Starting point is 00:30:50 His family's Kentucky fans. He used to go to UK games. And he was having good success up there. So I don't know what has happened, why they have fallen apart to let him go here in February. It was still a month ago. And last thing about Ohio State, there was a video, an interview Anthony Davis did, Drew, where he was talking about how. He wanted to go to Ohio State his whole life because LeBron was from Ohio and like he was ready to go Ohio State.
Starting point is 00:31:15 Cal talked him into coming on a visit here. And on the visit, he was so impressed with John Wall and the whole Kentucky thing that he decided that night to go to Kentucky. But if it wasn't for that visit, he would have ended up in Ohio State. How different would our fortunes have been if Anthony Davis ended up a Buckeye? So different. You talk about how he's always loved LeBron. I'm aware of 23. I just remember when he committed,
Starting point is 00:31:41 wasn't Cleveland State his only offer? So was he assuming Ohio State was going to offer you if he made that trip? Yeah, he had like taken off that summer, but I guess he assumed Ohio State would offer him too. It's pretty cool. He was in that interview. He was open about how he just adored LeBron James, and now they're teammates.
Starting point is 00:31:56 I mean, that's pretty wild at itself. But crazy that he could have ended up a Buckeye over a cat. They also showed a, like, a tour of his house. And in his basement, Shannon, he has a Pau Shot game. Yeah. And the Pappashot game is UK-themed. It's a UK-themed Papa Shot, and all I could think to myself when I saw it was everyone in Kentucky would buy this. Oh, absolutely.
Starting point is 00:32:18 Yeah, if you market that, who wouldn't have that. How do we not have one of those? They can't cost that much, right? Maybe a couple hundred bucks. I think I would have one of those two. How much do you think a Pappas shot is? 200. Like the little miniature one.
Starting point is 00:32:29 Somebody have one? Oh. Like we're talking the little smaller ones, right? Yeah, I'd say probably a couple hundred bucks. I'd get one of those. I'd like that he's working on his jumper while he's, you know, even at home. It's UK. That's UK theme.
Starting point is 00:32:41 All right, who's up next? God, fake Ralph Hacker up next. Fake Ralph Hacker. How are you, sir? Hello, Matt, Ryan Shannon and Drew. This is the Flugger Radio Boys and the Wildcats and formerly the best best man on radio. Matt, I wanted to call your program yesterday and wish you guys a happy Valentine's Day, but I didn't get to do that because.
Starting point is 00:33:05 I had to rush off to an Ash Wednesday service. You know, it was Ash Wednesday yesterday as well. Yes, it was. But I wanted to call you on Valentine's Day, and wish you guys a happy Valentine's Day because, you know, fake Ralph Hacker loves you guys. But also I want to call in Matt. And then the actual Ralph Hacker is a listener to the show as well.
Starting point is 00:33:28 So I hope Ralph is listening and gets to hear his alter ego right now. Well, also, Matt, you know what? been more than a month of Sunday since I called your radio program, but I have been listening. And of course, this week I heard the impassioned speech from Chester on Monday. And, of course, the warbling sounds of Kentucky Joe on Tuesday. And I said, well, you know, it must be time for another longtime listener to call in. And so that's why Ralph Hacker was calling today. And I wanted to say to Drew, congratulations.
Starting point is 00:34:05 Drew, I'm finally being included all five days of this radio program. You deserve it, brother. Thank you very much. It's great to hear that from a legend like you. And you know, I think it was what, during the COVID year, I called in on your birthday and said,
Starting point is 00:34:21 happy birthday to Drew, so I wanted to call in and say that much, too. And I hope you guys all have a happy Valentine's Day and say best to the Big Blue Nation and go cats as we head. to March.
Starting point is 00:34:36 Thank you very much for a fake Air Off Hacker. Well done. For longtime fans, that's a really good impersonation. I'm not going to lie. It might be one of the best ones people do. And maybe the first time he's ever called in, though, and not called Tom Leach, screaming Leach. You know, he always throws that in there.
Starting point is 00:34:53 A little dig is screaming Leach. I like the thing it actually is Ralph Hacker, just calling in a fake Ralph Hacker. It could be. It would not shock me. By the way, he was talking about calls this week. It did turn out that I heard from a couple of people, the guy that called and yelled at me yesterday was the former Barron County. It was him.
Starting point is 00:35:14 Sheriff, yes. It's a lot of aggression. A lot of aggression. We still love Barron County, though. Yeah, maybe good he's not sheriff anymore. Rick's music always, I can't help it.
Starting point is 00:36:01 Toto here. This is WISER. This is Weezer. Weezer. I thought it was Toto. This is the old Toto song, but Weezer did it. It's the cover. Yes.
Starting point is 00:36:11 All right. Thank you, Rick. 859-280, 2287. All right, so I have something I was waiting to ask for you guys today. And by the way, we just found out new U.K. offensive coordinator, Bush, Hamden, will be on the show tomorrow. So we can learn about our new offensive coordinator. He'll be on. When we're at the Capitol, Ryan asked if he was coming to the Capitol.
Starting point is 00:36:33 He is not coming to the Capitol for OVW Day. I mean, he's welcome to come if he wants. I don't think that's what he's going to do. But you remember I talked about the dudes, the two nerdy dudes, right on the makeshift podcast. Yes. They gave the facts. So last night, flipping on TikTok, they show up again. Two nerdy dudes.
Starting point is 00:36:52 They're in your algorithm now. And they're doing a thing called, what age would you allow your kids to do this? Now, of course, me being the non-parent that I am, actually only one of us is. You know what? We all get to have opinions. So here you go. Are you ready? You're going to tell me what age would you let your kids do this and let's do it.
Starting point is 00:37:15 We'll start with. What age, Shannon, would you let your kids go on a date? 14. 14? Yes. They can go out somewhere? Yes. All right.
Starting point is 00:37:26 Yeah, eighth grade, 14. I'm right. Is that a right answer? Is that a standard age? I don't know. That's pretty standard. It feels right. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:37:34 Okay. I was going to say 15, but now I feel like the strict parent making them wait a year. I'll stick with 15. Freshman year. All right. You can be a strict parent. I'll go with 14. 14-year-olds go out day.
Starting point is 00:37:44 Number two, how old can they be to stay home alone, Shannon? Ooh. 12, I guess. Is that too young? No, I was going to say 12. 12? Yeah. Huh.
Starting point is 00:38:00 Now, not overnight, but stay by themselves for like three or four hours or something. You can handle yourself at 12. Yeah. Yeah, I would have gone probably 13 or 14, but if you want your kids to be vagrants, you can't. I was going to say 13 before they said 12. I'm the parent that the kid hates because all the other kids get to do everything a year earlier. All right. Have a phone.
Starting point is 00:38:19 Oh, limited access. I would say middle school. So that would be what age? 12. 13? 12 is like a sixth grader. Well, six graders. Well, six graders, 12.
Starting point is 00:38:31 So 12. Yeah. Fifth grade. probably even like fifth grade yeah yeah they all have them now like 10 years old they all they all have cell phones now they have them in their backpack so if they're caught in the bus line of the car line they need to reach mom and dad i like how they say if they're caught in the car line or bus line need to reach mom and dad like that couldn't have happened before people found a way to get out of it you don't need oh you got to have it you can't get out of the bus line i mean i got through high school
Starting point is 00:38:58 without a phone one time larry forgot to pick me up at all yeah yeah maybe they go to school in louis I love you, but you did. It's true. I was there until 4.30, and then it happens. So what about you? Yeah, I like the sixth grade here. What do we say that is 12? 12.
Starting point is 00:39:13 Yeah. All right. What's the first stage you would let them cook on a stove by themselves? For me, 45. Yeah. We talking about supervision or no supervision? How far away are we? No, like in the house, but you just let you don't oversee it.
Starting point is 00:39:31 Okay. Like 10. 10? Yeah, a 10-year-old cook. Oh, I'm going much higher. 16. Yeah, I'm going 14 or 15, probably 8th grade, freshman year, probably that age. It also depends on what you're cooking, too.
Starting point is 00:39:43 Yeah, if it's just putting in a frozen pizza in the oven, you know, they can do that. Or make some ramen in the microwave, something, yeah. All right. Get a tattoo. 18. 18. Yeah. At that point, you're an adult.
Starting point is 00:40:00 You can make your own decision. All right. You wouldn't, would you let him get a tattoo? Not like any tattoo they wanted, but one you approved. Would you let him get him before 18? I'm proud of you. 18's the answer. Dane waited until he was 18.
Starting point is 00:40:12 Josiah's way going to wait to he's 18. It's 18 for me too. All right. So then I'll ask the women, because I don't know that what about piercings? Like ear pierced, ear pierced. What age do girls get their ear pierced? I feel like I've seen it. Newborn.
Starting point is 00:40:28 Yes. Oh, yeah. Babies. Yes, absolutely. I've seen it a lot. Like, you know, maybe a couple of months old. Yeah. I wouldn't do that, but that, it is. Three months you're saying? Yeah, three months. Where are you hanging out with three months? They're old. People or friends who have kids. Okay. Yeah, there are girls, Clares, go to Clare's in the mall occasionally. What about like a belly button ring?
Starting point is 00:40:53 That's probably an 18 thing. Yeah. Yeah. It's a good thing I don't have daughters. I wouldn't let my daughter do anything like that until they probably got 18 years old. Yeah, I'll go 18 there. All right, well, there you go. There'll be a clip on. Oh, you're ground. You're telling me that babies? Oh, yeah. That's a common thing, especially, I mean, mostly it's girls, right?
Starting point is 00:41:12 But I mean. But why would a baby need an earring? It doesn't. I mean, a baby doesn't even know it has an earring on. I think the parents. It's for the parents, yeah. Style and profiling babies. I don't care what age they do it.
Starting point is 00:41:25 But babies, unless there's a baby here with an earring. Babies with earrings, that's weird to me. What about a baby with a belly button? Okay, that's even weirder. Then I think you called child services at that point. I feel like we passed the test. I think we did. Yeah, we did.
Starting point is 00:41:41 Got Cecil up next. Baby. Cecil, go ahead. Yes, the nine-game SEC schedule. I know it may be difficult for the SEC officers, but why? Because they haven't decided if they're going to have one or two or three common opponent. Why can't they let the schools decide if both schools agree on it? Like I know Saban and
Starting point is 00:42:08 Tennessee were griping about having hard three-team common opponents. Well, I think if you let the schools decide. I just think that would be a hard thing to pull off. I mean, what if we wanted Tennessee and Tennessee doesn't want us? Then it can't happen. So, but I believe that like South Carolina, I think both schools would agree to it, maybe Missouri, but I think the scheduling part could be pulled off, and to me it would make the schools happy. Yeah. I think it changes over the years.
Starting point is 00:42:42 I mean, like, I don't know, like who would Kentucky want to play? I mean, you probably say you wanted to play Vandy. Like, everybody would want to play Vandy. I think schools would be trying to buy Vandy. Yeah, and then you probably end up with money, and I appreciate the call C. So I will say the ACC did something I actually thought was a pretty good idea. Rather than making it to where every team had the same amount of rivals,
Starting point is 00:43:05 they literally went school to school and said, really, North Carolina, you have two rivals. We're not going to force you a third one. You have Duke and NC State. Hey, you know, Georgia Tech, you have one rival. Cal, you're not going to have three rivals. And so not everybody had the same amount of rivals, but yet they still made it work.
Starting point is 00:43:24 That might be Drew how you do it. Because for Kentucky, I think we would really only care about maybe Tennessee and Vandy. And if we got those two, then whoever else is whoever else. Sounds like they're still considering the one rival with rotating the eight every year, too. So I guess in these meetings, we'll really see what direction they go. The one rival is we're getting South Carolina. But you could get somebody worse. Yeah, better to get stuck with another team.
Starting point is 00:43:46 So we'll take a break. Come back. Our number two, this is Kentucky Sports Radio.
