A lot of people write me in on the text machine, 772-754.
You're right, Shannon.
A lot of babies get their ears.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah, I've seen it.
I know it's a common thing.
How were you when you got your ears, Pierce?
Two.
It's amazing.
So when you don't, you were five?
For some reason I had in my mind five, but I guess when you, we don't have kids,
you don't necessarily know these things.
Did your parents ask you if it was okay at two?
No?
It just did it?
Just did it.
Like, oh, you're getting it anyway.
Get a chair.
Yeah.
I mean, hey, clearly I was wrong on all that.
859-280-2287.
Couple open lines.
Give us a shout.
Tomorrow we will be at the Capitol.
It will be the Kentucky Senate is pronouncing it OVW Day.
So that's at 9 o'clock.
All of our wrestlers are coming.
We're going to take a picture on the Senate floor.
So that should be very exciting.
And then we will be doing the show in the Capitol Rotunda.
Now, it's not open to the, like, you can come into the rotunda, but like there won't be seats.
We're just going to be sitting there doing it.
So if you want to walk in and say hello, you are more than welcome.
but we will not like, we won't have a speaker or anything,
but we're going to be doing it from the Capitol rotunda.
The first time we've ever done it, like out in the Capitol,
there may be, who knows, senators and representatives, Ryan, for you to talk to.
Are you excited tomorrow to be in the rotunda?
Yeah, the last time we did one at the State Capitol building,
we were in some back room way back in the corner.
So now we're going to be in the rotunda.
So I have a question.
Yes.
What is our dress code?
Spandex.
Yeah, yeah.
So I'm wearing, I can just tell you what I'm going to wear.
See, I have to be in the picture.
Yes.
So I'm going to wear my OVW jacket and jeans.
So I would say if you wear, don't wear sweatpants like you're wearing right now.
I would say if you wore jeans and just like that KSR, I think that's fine.
Okay, I have an OVW T shirt.
There you go.
I think wear an OVW T shirt.
Yeah.
No, I mean, I think tomorrow an OVW T shirt is appropriate considering what's going on.
I just can't wait for this picture.
It's going to be like a picture from a fever dream.
You're going to have Mr. Pectacular flexing his pecks.
I told him right next to Andy Beshear.
It's going to be great.
So first of all, I had a couple things I told.
I was like, look, we have to keep our shirts on.
All right.
But you know what he's going to do?
I understand.
Wear just a vest.
I'm okay with the vest.
With no shirt underneath.
We have to wear a shirt.
There are a couple just rules.
Just no nipples.
And then I wanted everyone to sort of limit the amount of skin.
for the picture.
But here's what's neat, for those of you, like,
I can tell the wrestlers are actually really excited about it.
Yeah.
Some of them are bringing their families.
Oh, cool.
And so I'm actually very, very excited for them,
because I can tell they're very excited about it.
So when does the proclamation actually happen?
9 a.m.
So we will have already been proclimated.
It will happen during the pre-show,
but they can't do the show from the Senate floor,
so they'll be outside.
I see.
So you're going to do the pre-show with Billy.
With Billy so Shannon can be on the Senate floor getting his picture taken with his with his belt.
I can't wait.
You can bring your belt.
By the way, if the wrestler's ass tonight, tell them to all bring their belts.
Okay.
All right, bring the title.
We'll get that through the metal detector, no problem.
I think we should be able to get it through the metal detector.
I like it.
It's a big day.
I've already got my cash flow shirt sitting out.
Actually, I need to wash it.
I bought it directly off of him at the Manchester show.
I will have that on.
It's still a little damp.
The one he wore?
Yeah, he didn't have my size, and I was like, what size do you have on?
He laughed, and I just kept looking at him.
And he's like, oh, you really want this.
So bought it right off of him after he wrestled.
Ooh.
And have it on since.
I'll have it on tomorrow.
Wow, that's kind of gross.
Well, we will be there tomorrow, and then Kentucky and Auburn is Saturday.
Give me your confidence level, Ryan, that we win down there in Auburn, where they've won every game this year by double digits.
I'll say 20 percent.
Okay.
I like that.
and five, I feel like Kentucky gets them.
So I'm right there with you.
I was maybe even at 40% until last night.
Me too.
What they did to the best defense in the SEC,
and in the moment they got done,
their crowd went and got in line for the Kentucky game.
By the way, they already have hundreds of students
camping out for Saturday's game.
So my confidence took a big hit.
I think 20 is still fair, though,
but last night really was a punch to that optimism.
They're camping out.
Is it general admission?
like what is the point of the camp out for students it's like your seat is first come first okay
they do the side of the court too that's a great arena yeah the students if you're at the front row
if you're at the front of the camping you could be in the front row of the game so that's going to be
the most hostile atmosphere they played in it is so far right i think i said this the other day
i've been to i've been to almost every big arena i can't think of a big arena that i have not been to
a home arena. I haven't been to the
Palestra, but that's no
team's home court. But I've been to pretty
much every big
arena in the country with
a great fan base.
And I think when it's loud
and intense at Auburn,
it's probably the second
loudest place in the country behind
Kansas. When it's loud.
Now, they have games where they don't care,
whereas Kansas cares every
game and Duke cares every game.
But if you get them focused
and loud because it's not just there's a couple things about it one it's small so like it i think
it generates noise second the way it's shaped the it feels like the fans are on top of you like it's
like it's like it's just i don't know the way it's designed it feels like they're like on top of you
and i think all that drew you were with me that one year i've been several times like that's it's just
there's an intensity there that's kind of hard to match yeah i don't want to compliment then as kentucky
gets ready to head there. But I've been to a lot of the arenas in the SEC, and it's,
I think it's one of the nicer ones and one of the better environments with Kentucky's there.
I think I've been there four times. I was going to go this Saturday. It canceled my room yesterday,
but I think that's going to be a tough spot.
I mean.
What's your confidence level percentage?
I'm going to say a third. I think you play them three times. You get them once.
I don't think they're as good as the numbers seem to suggest they are,
but I just think in that arena
I don't know how
I don't think they lose it
here's the way I look at it
I think we are as good as they are
in theory
but the way they protect their home court
versus the way we've protected our home court
is a difference in the two teams
like they protect that home court
and you know they they were down
25 at Florida Saturday
so it's not like they're unbeatable
but on their court
Drew, they just have been lights out.
Yeah, they're so good there.
That actually the Florida game gave me confidence.
I think they lost by 18, and I thought Auburn was very flawed.
I think they even said that on the show yesterday.
But then what they did to that South Carolina team that I think is very good to shoot 60%
from the field, 60% from three, put up 101 points.
You're not being that.
The way we saw how South Carolina slowed Kentucky down, that was that, like I said,
that hit me pretty hard last night seeing that result.
I think if you're talking about just going back to the arenas,
if you're talking about the loudest college basketball environment,
I've been in. Let's just take Rupp out because I'm not, I'm biased and I want to put them high
and I'm being biased. So Kansas is number one. I think a good, that Auburn game where we were,
I think it was Fox, Bam and Monk maybe is the one that, if it was not them, it was the year
before, Ulyss and Murray. Auburn, Indiana in 2012 was, it was insane. You remember you and I went to
Michigan State and their students are right on the floor too.
And then Duke, when it's, you know, those Duke Carolina games when I was there when those
teams were one and two in the country was pretty insane.
To me, those, in Arkansas, Arkansas can be like that too, but Ryan, I still don't think
it's as good as all.
Yeah, I think Arkansas years passed when they were really good.
You could put them maybe in that, higher in that conversation, maybe not right now.
But Auburn, and you can't deny what Bruce Pearl has done, man.
That's a football school and he's got them super excited and pumped about
basketball and it's because they're they dominate right now yeah who's up next got joe up next joe go ahead joe
hey matt i had a uh comment in question for drew but then you talked about anthony davis made me think
of something else i got a thought for you i want to hear your opinion uh you like bill simmons
sometimes he does these rewrite history things if i remember where i was when anthony davis
grabbed his knee versus Baylor in the elite eight and I thought that season was over.
If Cal lose, we beat Baylor, I think we're up by, I don't know, I didn't look it up, 15.
If we win that game and then lose the following Saturday Final Four, what do you think happens?
And everything else, the other seasons and other players we get all stay the same.
What do you think happens as a rewrite history with like a Simmons?
If Cal had not won a title yet, this would be even worse.
I mean, so I appreciate the call.
I mean, Drew could tell you during that Baylor game,
I was, that's the first time I remember him being really annoyed at me
because we'd be up like 12 and I'd be like, they could still come back.
And you'd go, will you shut up?
They're going to win.
I can't remember the player's name.
They had a great shooter.
He was a white kid, right?
You said, there's like a minute and half.
You're like, they're four three pointers away from being back in this.
And I'm like, what?
We have the ball.
We're 14.
But yeah.
But the thing is, the reason I don't do that, Shaden, is I can,
say the same thing. You know, if they call that shot clock violation against Wisconsin and we're
40 and 0 and win two titles, you know, I mean, you can play the if game a lot. It's interesting
to think about, but you also drive yourself crazy trying to think about the different outcomes and
scenarios and how the way we look at this, you know, I guess John Calipari tenure here at Kentucky
could be flipped upside down. If he doesn't get that one, and you know, you build up that equity when
you get that national title. I mean, look, people will say, okay, what if Aaron Harrison doesn't
hit those shots. Well, I'll counter
and say, what if Luke May doesn't hit his shot?
You know, I mean, there's all kinds of
Brian, there's all kinds of ifs you could
do. And I'm still on board.
Do they make a big run? I forget about what just
happened the past week and a half or so. You know, that's
all matters to me. Let's have
a good march for the first time in a long time.
One of the things people forget is it
2019 when we lost to Auburn.
We had a big lead in that game, didn't we?
Or were we behind and came back?
In the tournament? In the tournament?
Yeah, I mean, I remember,
I can't remember a big lead, but I remember a moment in the game where they should have finished.
Maybe PJ didn't get a tip in.
Something happened.
Something happened.
There was one possession.
It was like if that had just finished, they had the game lost.
I feel like maybe we made a comeback to go to overtime and then had the lead in overtime.
I can't remember.
But there was a moment because I was too nervous to go to the game.
I sat and watched in the hotel in Kansas City.
Yeah.
With that in Kansas City where I thought we were going to beat them.
That's when we got to sit right behind the bench.
We never get to sit behind the bench.
We were sitting right behind the bench.
And we heard Cala Perry yelled he to say.
and coaches after Jamal Baker got beating.
He's out.
He's done, not playing again.
And he didn't.
He fouled on a three.
He out on a three.
Cal told him no fouls that game.
He threatened him.
Fowled on a three.
Who's next?
Dan is up next.
Dan, go ahead, Dan.
Hey, Matt.
Hey, this is fake Dan from Rocky Mountain who moved to Lexington recently.
Oh, I didn't know that.
Well, glad to have you in Lexington.
Yeah, I think.
Glad to be here.
Glad to be here.
Look, you just got one question here.
I think, you know, all the years.
I've been listening to you guys.
I think for this basketball season,
more fans have been pissed off than any previous year.
I just wanted to you guys agree with that.
Oh, yeah.
This has been the most, I appreciate the call.
I was telling somebody this last night.
I was talking just about the job in general.
This has been the hardest two-month stretch
to do this show in my life
because of the way the fans are split.
If you go back the last 13 years,
I don't think our fan base has ever really been split, right?
There have been times the fan base has been negative,
but everybody kind of agreed.
It's like everybody kind of knew the Joker era was ending, right?
Everybody kind of knew it.
Everybody kind of has always been on the same page about Cal.
There was a little period of time people were split on stoops,
but then when they kicked that field goal against Mississippi State,
Ryan, it kind of unified everybody,
and then they went and beat Louisville that year,
and then everybody was on board.
This is the first time that I have felt an active split with the fan base.
And for a show like ours,
where I like derive a lot of pride in trying to reflect the fan base,
when the fan base is split, it makes it impossible.
And so I've seen more anger towards Cal, but also more anger towards us because with the fan base the way it is, there's really no way to please them.
And I think that's what's made this year so hard.
And what even on social media or everything else, it's just it feels like the fan base is split in a way that I'm not used to.
And we understand why fans are upset.
We're upset.
We understand why fans are disappointed.
We're disappointed.
But do you feel the split?
I mean, like again, with Joker, everybody kind of agreed we got to make a change.
This one's different.
Yeah.
And I think we all get it.
We get why, you know, there are some people still on the Cal train, some are anti-Cal.
I just don't know why they're deflecting all their anger towards us.
And you especially, you know, like somebody.
Well, I can answer that.
I think I'm accessible.
And Cal is, you know, I think it's easy.
It's easy to take your anger out on me because you can reach me.
I think it's harder with him.
And you should know it's your fault.
I mean, you should know it's your fault.
But I do think that this is the most down the basketball fan base has been since the end of the tubby.
Same thing with Gillespie.
Okay, we weren't on the radio during Gillespie, but pretty much after we lost a BMI,
everybody knew Gillespie wasn't going to work.
Yeah.
Right?
This is different.
I think people still don't know whether this is going to work or not.
Yeah, like you said, but the difference is,
just the other day at the pregame show you know who I was sitting before the show they're all like
you are so easy on cow and I pull up my phone and show the messages of people going why do you hate cow
it's like you're getting yelled at from both sides saying you're not in their direction I'm like I'm just trying
to watch games and give my opinion I'm not basing my opinions on what your feedback is online
there is all if you live it online you would see me getting slammed for being too negative but in my life
no one comes up to me and says I'm too negative
they come up and say I'm too positive
no I mean
not one person not one
fan has come up to me and said you're too hard on Cal
I've had 50 fans say
why don't you get madder at Cal
yeah well Twitter's not real
but those are people
they're right in it
they're still mine box I mean they're still there
tell me about Stockton Morton
Stockton Mortgage, you know, I talked to my Stockton guy yesterday at lunch.
You saw I had lunch with my Stockton Mortgage representative.
We're trying to gear up for the spring buying season, and you need to be ready.
If you're thinking about buying a house, you need to get pre-approved, do it right now.
Man, I put a listing up this week, and I've already got six showings, four yesterday and six showings today.
So it's starting to heat up a little bit.
Get ready for it.
If you know you're going to be making a move, call Stockton Mortgage and get you pre-approved,
go to, it's easy to apply at Stockton.com.
Sounds like money bags over here.
Yeah, look at you.
Why are you?
It's going for the rest of us.
You know, it's a good time to buy.
You know, and the stock and mortgage people are good people.
So it's a good, how's the real estate market in London?
Is our things, uh, well, not a big reaction?
You said you've been listed four years.
40 days.
Okay, four years would be a long time.
I'll give you my card when we're done.
We'll take a break.
Be right back.
This is Kentucky Sports Radio.
Welcome back.
It is Kentucky Sports Radio here in London.
Don Franklin Ford.
859-280-2287.
One person writes, Matt, you said,
Kentucky, you predict five and two and win the SEC tournament, I think you're crazy.
There's no way they win five.
I think it win five.
I think they, yeah, I definitely think they can win five.
I really like, again, maybe I'll be proven wrong.
I like us in the SEC tournament.
I was listening, I think, what was it, Tennessee was playing Arkansas or South Carolina
was put one of those games, the announcer, he picked, he picked Kentucky to win the SEC tournament.
And I thought he must have been listening yet.
Yesterday because you know you get the Nashville crowd I think we'll go I for some reason I like us in the SEC tournament this we can score a ton of points
We can I think that's it teams don't have to be quite frank with you teams don't have as long to scout you
And like you know I think part of what's been happening is these teams have scouted us and they do a really good job
Scouting us and then beat us in that one the game just come back to back to back well what did you make about Cala Perry's comments the other day not even knowing that they were playing
Ole Miss that was awkward
Did you, did you read that?
Okay.
Speaking of prep.
So, again, this may make people upset, but it's, I'm, I don't say this to be rude.
Like, so people were criticizing for you don't know.
He said in the post-game press conference that he didn't even know we were playing
old miss until like the day before, and he didn't know who we played next and all this.
And there were people saying, see, he's not, you know, whatever.
I don't, I don't really listen to anything he says.
I mean, I'll listen to it.
I don't really take anything he says as fact.
I don't believe him he didn't know we were going to play Ole Miss.
I don't believe him he didn't know we're going to the right.
He is not an idiot.
And sometimes he...
Well, I would he say that, though, and it almost makes him look bad.
I think he says it because he think...
What has been odd to me is he thinks things are charming that aren't really charming.
Like, it's not charming to say you don't know who we play.
We want you to know who we play.
I think it's a big part of the job requirement.
So I think he thinks that that's kind of like,
man, he's so laser focus.
He knows who we play.
I would hope.
So. I just thought it was weird.
I just, I don't really believe what he says, and so I don't really use it to be critical of him,
or I try not to as much, Ryan, because I just don't really believe it.
I don't believe one word.
That's bull crap.
I mean, yeah, I think he wants to know.
We're preparing just about us, what we do.
We're going to just focused on how we're doing, what we're going to do.
He knows who the next guy.
game is. Are you telling me Bruce Perk, who for years was his arch enemy, in a game that college
game day is going to be there, that the whole national audience is going to be watching? You're
telling me he doesn't know we play off. It's coming up in two days. Maybe we should tweet them and let
him know. I don't believe that. I think he also said he thought it was a road game. And it was like,
well, when you woke up in your own bed, did you not realize it was not a road game? Maybe we should
get on the road, you know, games tonight. I think part of the game.
I think he just, I think he tries too hard to be charming and it leads him to, I just wish, here's what I wish.
I wish he'd just be real, okay? I spent many years talking to him privately, and I mean this, he is kind,
he is smart, he is interesting, he has diverse views on just life, he's a basketball mind,
there's a lot about him that is really, really likable.
But then when it's public cow, he's like putting on a show.
And at first we really loved that.
Like it was like we were, but now, man, just be you.
Just be you.
And I think, like, whatever else you want to say about Mark Stoops,
Mark Stoops is always Mark Stoops.
You know what he is.
Mitch Barnhart, God, love he is a dork, but you know that.
He wears it on his sleeve.
You know that.
I feel like Cal wants to be this, just be a real cow,
because the real cow is a very likable person.
Yeah, and I was sitting out there for the Tuesday night with some fans and friends when he said that,
and they were like, why does he keep saying this stuff out loud?
It's also the, I don't look at the score during the game.
Stop, I don't want to hear that either.
Like, we know you know the score.
Like, why are you admitting to malpractice?
You've got to know the score of the game and what town you're in that day.
I used to say that to him privately.
He would say something to me on the phone, and I'd go, you need to say that publicly.
Like, say that publicly.
The fans will like that.
Say that.
But it's like, you know, he wants to do the slogans and all that stuff.
And Shannon, I just say, when in doubt, be real.
I understand being laser focused on your team.
but part of the prep is knowing how the other team plays, how they run their offense.
And if you don't even know who you're playing, how do you prepare for that team?
You can't.
But it does know who we're playing.
Like, don't, just don't, you know who we're playing.
I hope so.
859-280-2287.
We will take a break.
Take your calls.
Be right back.
We are here at Don Franklin Ford.
This is Kentucky Sports Radio.
Welcome back.
It is Kentucky Sports Radio here live at Don Franklin, Ford, and London.
Somebody here is going to win tickets to senior day, UK and Vanderbilt.
I think that's the last Tuesday or Wednesday night of the season.
The SEC tournament, you may have noticed the SEC tournament, the NCAA tournament, later in the year this year.
Like it's normally it's like the 10th through the 12th.
This year is 17th, so the season actually goes into April, drew a little bit of just of a later.
Everything got pushed back, I guess, just by the calendar.
I didn't even realize that.
I hate that it's, I always wish we get the Sweet 16 in Lexington before the SEC starts,
but that'll be all run at the same time.
The girls' sweet 16 is during the SEC tournament.
The boys' sweet 16 is during the first and second round of the NCAA tournament.
Before we go to the phones, Vern Lundquist, Ryan, announced after the Masters this year,
which will be his 40th Masters.
He is going to retire.
He'd already stepped away from college football and basketball,
but now he's going to retire completely.
Vern Lundquist-like, legendary voice of, first of all, he did SEC college football forever.
He did college basketball forever.
He did the UK Duke Christian Leitner game.
He was the one that calls the pass.
He did the Tiger one when he does his, you know, I can't believe what I just saw or whatever.
Like he's had a legendary career will end in April.
Kind of sad, you know, a guy we all grew up listening to, man.
It was a big game if he was calling the game,
and yeah, he has been part of some special, special moments.
So it's kind of sad to see some of these legendary broadcasters finally step away from the microphone.
40 years, though, dude.
I mean, he's earned it at this point.
Go enjoy your life.
That's quite a career.
That is a long, and that's 40 years just at CBS.
I mean, I'm sure he did stuff before that as well.
Who's up next?
Sean is up next.
Sean, go ahead, Sean.
Thank you, Matt.
I got a quick comment about Cal, as a wise man once said the other day.
Best Cal is a mad cow, and we're hoping to see that here postseason going into March.
Also, a couple of questions right quick.
Do you think Reed Shepherd may be on track just saying what if he was to stay another year
and really develop his game, especially on defense, to be the most successful kid that ever come out of the 13th region?
and could we possibly see Governor Bashir in the Squared Circle
taking a good stiff body slam from the veteran Jack Vaughn in the coming days?
Oh, dude, by the way, the veteran Jack Vaughn will be in Lexington
next Friday at Manchester Music Hall with OVW.
Could we end up being the best player?
Appreciate the call from the 13th region.
All right.
So who are the contenders right now?
Wawa is going to be tough to be.
Yeah.
But who else?
Richie Farmer.
Richie
Richie's great
I would say okay so we're talking at
UK it's going to be hard to have a better
UK career than Wawa
Yeah anyone it's going to be
He was like all-American in three sports
Wasn't he there anybody who had a
Let's just say he were to read were to go to the NBA
Be a really good NBA player
Has anybody from the 13th region been a better
Pro athlete
Who's the best you know couch is a 14th region
Wawa, I don't know that he did he play pro sports?
You know, they all got in trouble.
I don't remember if he actually played or not.
What?
The Bird family.
Oh, yeah.
What did they play?
Yeah, but what about the pros?
Could Reed be the best 13th region guy to play pro sports somewhere?
I was mainly trying to think basketball.
The only one I could think of was the Gaffney guy, but he played the Harlem Globetrotters.
He didn't play in the NBA, so I don't know.
I can't think of one to play in the NBA.
from the 13th region. So there might be a chance.
Anybody from London play pro sports?
Frank Selvey. Yeah,
and Corby. He scored 100 points
in a game. We had a guy from Middlesbrough
win a PGA tour of it one time.
Really? George Cato.
But I think he only won one.
Charles Thomas won Mr. basketball. He didn't play
in the NBA. Yeah. Well, maybe somebody will know.
13th region. Who would be the best
pro athlete? I'm not sure who that would be. Who's up next?
Got Mark up next.
But to answer your question, Wawa's going to be the best college.
Yeah.
Because, I mean, he was all American in like, what, three different things?
I think three sports.
So that's pretty good.
Go ahead.
Hey, guys.
That Auburn environment is probably one of the best environments.
I sent Ryan a couple of pictures.
2019, we played them down there in January.
We sat behind the bench.
And that place, at the very top, they have like a just a standing room only general
mission for the fans.
I mean, and there's just people standing around the rail, you know, first come, first serve.
That's not even the student.
Yes.
And it's absolutely unreal.
And it's just, if you can go there, you've got to go there.
It's a great advantage.
Yeah, I agree.
I'll let you make your second point.
I totally agree.
If you're sitting there and you're listening, go I'd like to go to a road SEC basketball game,
Auburn is the choice.
It's Auburn and then Arkansas.
Those would be the two.
Wouldn't you agree, Ryan, you'd want to go to?
It's all back in the day, for sure.
Ford if they're good.
Ford if they're good.
If they're good, if they're not good, it'll be empty.
But if they're good, that's good as well.
Anything else?
And got to talk about Cal, but on the other one, you all were talking about what's the chance of winning down there, go with 100%.
We're going to win that game.
100%.
Well, let's talk about it.
I love it.
I appreciate the call.
Let's talk about Drew if we win.
All right.
If we beat Auburn, everybody back on board?
I mean, how back is back?
I'm back.
We beat Auburn on the road.
In my opinion, that's the hardest game of the year.
That's harder than any game we've played in the non-conference.
It's harder than anything in the conference.
If you win, Saturday is our hardest game of the year.
I agree.
I mean, if they win, does it, like, change your outlook for the tournament or anything?
Or you're just saying they've figured something out?
I think my outlook for the tournament is probably the same win or lose
unless we get run out of the gym, Shamed.
I mean, if we lose, I'm going to be pretty down if we lose.
by 25 or 30.
But win or lose, it doesn't really change what I think's going to happen,
but it would be a big up of energy?
If you do win that game, SEC tournament implications,
you could be now talking about playing on Friday possibly,
which doesn't look like it's going to happen right now.
If you win tonight or win Saturday,
the chance of a first round buy is there for you.
So now that conversation is back on the table.
That one's definitely back on the table.
What do you guys think the spread will be when it comes out?
tomorrow
last night
it was so bad for business
Auburned by
5 and a half
yeah
six
what do you think
I was going to go higher
I'll say
nine
that's amazing
when's the last time
Kentucky got
I don't know
11 and a half
in Tennessee last year
and I went
and we won
so that was the last time
did we give 11 a half
to Tennessee
yep because I
I bet on Tennessee
and I loved losing
that money
beating them in Knoxville
I can't
I'm trying to
you know, the numbers, the Auburn's like metrics are really good, too.
So I could see maybe it ends up being like eight and a half or nine.
That would be, it's a lot.
I don't know how they'll react to last night, but I've known I've said it five times.
South Carolina has an elite defense.
Auburn scored 101 points.
Kentucky does not have an elite defense.
I'm not going to say they're going to score 150, but I just don't know how Vegas will factor in
what they just did last night into that spread on Saturday.
Who's up next?
Got Mike up next.
Mike, go ahead, Mike.
Hey, guys, Mike from Louisville.
Hey, I'm driving to New Orleans,
and I'm stayed in Tuscaloosa last night on my way down,
so I had dinner.
We're in my UK gear,
so, of course, I'm catching a lot of flack
from both Auburn and Alabama fans.
And the thing has changed here in the last dozen years.
I've traveled through the southeast on business,
and the thing has it's changed that
I used to be able to puff out my chest during basketball season,
but now they're not scared of UK anymore.
I used to be able to say, guys, you got us in football,
but you know what, I'll see you basketball season,
and I can't do that now.
They are not scared of UK, they want UK,
and I actually think now UK is a little bit more scared of them than they are of us.
Look, I mean, the facts are, if you just look at the last, since 2018,
we have been the fourth best team in the SEC
over the last six years.
That's just the facts.
I wish it weren't the facts.
I still think we're the most important program.
I mean, they're still camping out at Auburn
because we're coming.
But nevertheless, we've been the fourth best team in the SEC
and the reality is Auburn, Alabama, and Tennessee
have all been better than us.
And Arkansas's kind of been right there with us.
Ryan, it's time for that to change.
100% it's almost embarrassing to hear you utter those words but it's true and to hear what the caller
saying like teams aren't scared of Kentucky anymore in basketball that's embarrassing it should it should fear
i wear my u k gear when i'm traveling on purpose i don't mind it i like having the fun and the in the back
and forth with the with the fc fans but man it's gotten really tough here the last couple of years
i used to be able to point out our banners hey we've won eight national championships our last one was a decade ago
and I can't do that anymore.
Well, they still have no banners,
so don't let them say too much to you.
I appreciate the call.
There is a level.
I'll give them the last six years,
but the rest of the SEC combined.
How many titles is the SEC won?
We've got more than the rest the SEC combined, right?
Arkansas's got two, or Arkansas's got one.
I don't even think it's close.
Florida's got two, and that's it.
So, you know, I ain't listening to them about banners.
Now, I'll listen to them about the last six years,
but when you have more than the rest of your,
conference combined, Shannon, they can't say.
Yeah, history goes back further than the last six years,
and history is going to be on Kentucky's side for a long time.
Yeah.

We'll take a break and be right back.
This is Kentucky Sports Radio.
Welcome back.
Final segment here, Kentucky Sports Radio in London.
Thanks to the folks that came out today.
Always great to have all of our friends here in Eastern Kentucky.
I haven't gotten a good answer for a better 13th region pro athletes.
So I think we might just have to, I think we might just have to go with
with Reed if he does well.
The only one I can think of was Earl
Combs that played for the New York Yankees.
Was he 13th region?
So Jerry Byrd played for the Knicks.
Roger Byrd
played for the Raiders.
Did somebody say Selby?
Selby played for the
Lakers.
So there you go.
But Byrne Lugwest, by the way, also called
the UK football win over LSU.
Why? They were number one.
Wow.
He was the one.
did that one.
Super.
Nice guy.
I mean, he's one of those guys.
You know, no ego,
checks it at the door,
just really professional.
We just had Jim Nance.
I mean, he's still doing the Masters,
but he's taking a few things off his plate here recently.
Some of the legends that's really all we know
in a lot of these sporting events,
it'll be a changing of the guard here moving forward soon.
Well, Burson writes on the text machine,
Matt,
I went to every Duke game, and I wore a UK shirt most of the time.
I went to every Duke home basketball game and cheered against them every game,
even though they were really good when I was there.
They had Jay Williams, Boozer, Dunleavy, Badi, A.
I was there during all that, and I cheered against them every game,
and I'm one of the few people to storm the floor at Duke for the other team when they were.
You were like the one guy at the game last night.
I stormed the floor when Carolina beat them in like,
0-1 or 02. It was number one versus two, and Brendan Haywood hit like a couple of free throws at the end to win.
And, uh, I mean, I would use storm loosely. I walked out there and felt like I was a Detroit guy.
I did, I did. I just walked, like there were Carolina fans there that just kind of walked out there.
I acted like I was one of them. I was very excited they lost.
I can only see you storming anything. Yeah. My favorite night at Duke from a sports perspective was when Indiana beat them at Rupp.
Yeah.
because even though I hate Indiana dealing with those Duke fans I was a huge Indiana fan Ryan for that game
I remember where we were Kentucky was playing up at Syracuse and we watched it at a sports bar
Syracuse and saw that happening on our home court Duke and Indiana play was kind of weird
Bush how excuse me Trey Mitchell so Trey Mitchell apparently his according to some reports his MRI was negative
but it still don't know if they're so there's not like a major issue but still don't know
Drew if there's something that could keep him out probably won't find out I would venture to say
probably doesn't play Saturday but we probably won't get an update until tomorrow or even
whenever they do the next press conference they need them in this one Auburn in the past you think
of having good guard play and they still do but they really run through the front court and those two guys
can stretch it out they went nine for 12 from three last night but they also can go inside
and bang and rebound.
So it's a game, you know, we've seen the seven footers.
They can be flawed at times.
I think you really need Trey's experience and just throwing more at Williams and
Broom at Auburn.
They need to get Trey healthy.
Which big guy do you think is best suited for this game?
Like I said that, I mean, they step out.
Normally I lean Ugo for defense, but these guys step out and hit the three.
I really don't know how Kentucky is going to go.
And that's cool.
We need Bradshaw to play well.
We need Bradshaw to play well, and we need the arrow to hit the glass, right?
I think those two things are going to be important.
Yeah, they don't.
game you see some Jordan Berks too.
If they don't have Trey Mitchell, that's a huge
loss in this game. They desperately needed
him for this game for those two guys.
So yeah, maybe it is a game for Bradshaw, man.
Hey, look, you want to earn your money?
This is how you prove yourself right here with these
two big strong guys out down there.
It's not just the matchups too. At Florida, Mitchell was
just so big being a veteran. He even
said he did to draw the attention
off the young freshman when the crowd was giving
him the business. I just think you need
his presence out there, however you're using him
on the road. Somebody
I can't remember who it was.
One of the national announcers said they thought
Trey Mitchell was that one of the most important players.
Chris Beard said it after the game.
Chris Beard.
So he's one of the best in college basketball.
Well, say he was one of the best in college basketball.
Yep.
So we need him back.
No kidding.
Who's up next?
Got Mark up next.
Mark, go ahead, Mark.
Hey, guys.
Just said a couple of things.
My hope for the Auburn game is that it's like
when we went to Tennessee last year,
where virtually no one thought we had a chance to win that game.
And we ended up winning it pretty well.
We talked about that during the break here off the air.
Ryan, if you go back the last three or four years,
our best games have been games.
People didn't think we had any chance of winning.
We won down at Tennessee the COVID year.
We won at Tennessee last year.
Arkansas last year where everybody gets hurt.
Antonio Reeves goes for 37.
So, like, it's been situations like this where we've actually had some of our best performances.
Yeah, Drew brought up that Tennessee game.
I forgot they were 11-point underdog.
It kind of feels the same Saturday, doesn't it?
Going in there is a huge underdog on an opponent's home floor.
Maybe they can't pull it off.
I mean, the Arkansas game last year, if you remember, we didn't have Wheeler, we didn't have Wallace.
We had, like, six guys.
We were playing bad.
And then we go down there and we beat them by, like, 10 with Antonio Reeves going on.
Topin was bringing the ball at the court.
Reeves, people forget, he didn't even hit many threes in that game.
It was mostly two-pointers.
They got it, too.
It was just a bizarre outcome.
The Tennessee one last year was a lot like this one,
and that they had just lost a couple at Rupp.
That's why we were so disappointed in the team heading to Knoxville.
We thought, well, if they can't beat, I guess it was South Carolina,
maybe Arkansas, if I remember correctly,
they can't win at home.
How are they going to win in Knoxville?
Then next thing you know, C.J. Frederick's sticking his tongue out,
running down the court, and cats are up big.
That was, so you never know.
I mean, I think we got, like I said, I think we got a one in three chance down there of winning.
I don't think it's crazy.
You know, Dillingham could go off, Reeves could go up.
That's one of the things about this team, Shannon.
We got dudes who can go off.
And so we got dudes who can put a ton of points up.
You get this win on Saturday.
All of a sudden it takes a little bit of pressure off for the other games coming up.
You know, you still got to go to Knoxville.
It's going to be a tough one.
But it gives you another quad one win.
And, you know, that's something you really need for the tournament to build up your resume.
Who's up next?
Waugh is up next.
Waugh. Go ahead, Waugh.
Hey, guys, Waugh Jones did play pro basketball.
All right. For who?
He played, well, my uncle, Cliff Barker, when the fabulous five, when the four of them graduated,
of course, Kenny Rollins graduated a year ahead of time, after they graduated, they formed
the Indianapolis Olympians basketball team, played at Butler Fieldhouse, and my dad, or my father,
excuse me. My uncle Cliff Barker was the player coach.
Well, there you go. I like that time of history.
I appreciate the call where you could just form your own team.
You know what? We're going to be the Middlesboro Marauders, and we're going to go and start play.
Well, they're the entire Olympic team, remember as well?
Then they went and became the Olympians.
