Starting point is 00:02:10 It is February the 16th. I'm Matt Jones here. Stop taking pictures, Billy. Here in Frankfurt, Kentucky, at this Kentucky State Capitol with full house. We are in the rotunda. Right here, the Kentucky's Capitol is beautiful. It is.
Starting point is 00:02:28 The building, like you don't always think about how nice it is. at the Kentucky State Capitol, Matt Jones, Ryan Lemon, Drew Franklin, and Shannon the dude. And it has been a fun day. And you can give us a shout on the Clark's Pumper Shop phone line 859-2-80-2287. A Vision Auto Glass text machine is 772-744 in this edition. Sponsored by the T.J. Smith Law Office, we called T.J. I'll make them pay. We, just a little while ago, finished the OVW Day Resolution by the Kentucky Senate and had a bunch, had probably 25, 30 wrestlers here.
Starting point is 00:03:02 and it's been a lot of fun. And Shannon, you were there? Yeah. It was very cool. It actually was. You know me, I don't get into politics. And I thought this was going to be kind of, whatever, you know. But it was really cool.
Starting point is 00:03:12 And it was actually interesting to hear all the other senators talk about wrestlers and how much of an impact on the community OVW has had. That was really neat. I mean, you didn't get to hear it, Ryan, because you weren't there. But the senators got up, both parties, got up and talked about the impact the show had and what it did on, like, how it made Kentucky shine a spotlight on. And it was really, let me tell you, it was really cool watching these wrestlers get to have that moment. Layla Gray and Cashflow were on the floor with me.
Starting point is 00:03:45 The wrestlers were in the balcony, and then they got to come down there all taking pictures right now, sitting in the speaker's chair. And you can just tell they really, really enjoyed it. So I really want to thank the Senate for making that happen. That's my biggest takeaway. Obviously, I wasn't able to go to the ceremony and hear what the other, senators were saying about a big takeaway is how giddy and how happy that your wrestlers were. All of them came in here and getting their picture taken with Abe Lincoln before they went to the Senate chambers, you know, and things like that.
Starting point is 00:04:10 It was really kind of a cool moment. That was exactly how I hoped when they called me and said they wanted to do it. That was exactly how I hoped it would be. You were up there with them in the balcony, Drew. Yeah. They seemed really, really happy. I mean, I was already excited for them before I got here. But then when I was sitting with them and just watching them take pictures, some of them had their kids,
Starting point is 00:04:29 I mean, they were all giddy about what was about to happen. And I thought even the, I don't know the terminology, whenever they're doing the thing, I know they read the resolution. They were doing a proclamation and then they voted. But then what's the where people just buzz in and say what they want to say? Is that like a speak your piece segment? You know what I'm talking about? It's like a game show.
Starting point is 00:04:46 Yeah, it's like when you're talking about when they gave speeches. Yeah. So many more people. Yeah. So many more people had things to add than I expected. I kind of thought it would be a let's read this, name the day, hit the hammer, get the photo, go home. But there was a lot of nice. comments added from that was the cool part because like all these politicians are so proper and to hear
Starting point is 00:05:04 them on the senate floor talking about wrestling and now they grew up watching wrestling well can i tell you the craziest part when it's over the senator david yates from louisville he's the one that sponsored it he and cassie armstrong and let me thank them for doing it he took a chop from cash flow outside the senate chambers he did Shannon has tweeted it out so we all got to see the video he's my new favorite kentucky senator if he takes a chop from cash flow on the senate floor he's my new favorite senator imagine taking a chop as a state no can you imagine Mitch McConnell taking a chop or Chuck Schumer like I mean he took a chop on a staircase which is very bold he wanted to stand on the stairs and they were like you're going to fall
Starting point is 00:05:46 down if you're not careful chop you over top the railing that would that would have been an unfortunate way for the day to end to be if David Yates and go fly does that make cash flow Senator? Does he get to take it like a duel right here? I don't think you can take one out and then become one, but that was Well, there was a moment in the actual Again, I don't know the words, program where the woman
Starting point is 00:06:10 I didn't catch the county, but she was wanting for them to do it there. Remember she's like, I think I could take them. She asked for a performance. And I thought Cashel raised his hand like he was going to chop right there on the floor. That was Julie Rocky Adams. She asked if they would do, if they would like do a match. She said, she named you by
Starting point is 00:06:26 name said she could take you. Oh, I think she could. I think that's probably fair. Her nickname is Rocky? No, that's her name. Is Julie Rocky, R-A-Q-U-E? Yes, she could take you. No doubt.
Starting point is 00:06:39 On the Senate floor. On the Senate floor. Actually, the Senate's very nice. I've always been in the House, which is a little bit like of, I don't know, rough and tumble thing. The Senate is very dignified and sort of very, very nice. This is rotunda is like made of, what is this marble?
Starting point is 00:06:57 Well, okay, so they said this was built in 1920. So here's what I was. Can you imagine the work it took to do this in 1920? Yes. Like, look at this. I mean, they did this in 1920. And look at the, like, our buildings, we don't, I feel like America doesn't build things like this anymore. Oh, no, no, we're late.
Starting point is 00:07:17 Make them like they used to. Yeah, I mean, I know that makes me said, but this was built in 1920. So before, like, all the stuff that we have. now that would make things like this conceivably easier, it's kind of an amazing thing, don't you think? Someone had to climb up there and paint these corners here. Hey, there's cash flow. I'm bad with words today.
Starting point is 00:07:38 These corners. Come here just a second. I just want to. Greg Maddox. Cash, first of all, real quick. Thank you very much. Wasn't that cool? That was absolutely cool.
Starting point is 00:07:50 That is a once-in-a-lifetime feeling to stand down there on the floor. heck i don't know what's like i'm kind of in shock you got to be down on the floor oh yeah i got to be down on the floor and uh for whatever reason somebody told a senator that it was you got to assault he requested it he requested to be chopped by cash flow what a moron if that is any if that is any indication of what the senators in kentucky like i don't know because that's that's a bit weird but you so like you they told me when i got here i thought it was just going to be me and now and then They were like, we'd like two wrestlers to come, so you and Layla got to go on there. I mean, that had to be cool, wasn't it?
Starting point is 00:08:28 Absolutely. It's such a privilege. I've never been a part of anything like that. I mean, I don't really know what to say. I mean, this building is nice. Be down on their floor. You know, you can wrestle in front of three or four or five thousand people at one time and not have one ounce of intimidation.
Starting point is 00:08:42 But when you're down there on that Senate floor, that's a whole different, that's a whole different ball game. How about all those senators saying like how much the show meant to them and all that? Wasn't that cool? Yeah, that's very cool. I mean, I don't know what to say about that, man. I mean, you know, just to know that those guys have watched... They've been in your living room. Yeah, well, that's kind of creepy, man.
Starting point is 00:09:04 The world has been in your living room. That's right. Yeah, the world's also seen a better. Damon Thayer has been in your living room. They've watched you spray tan. Yeah. That's right. That whole Senate chamber has seen you in a thong.
Starting point is 00:09:16 Ah, that's why the ladies were coming up to me. I get it now. I get it now. Right. That's true. Well, dude, I hope. you enjoyed it. By the way, one week from now, you'll be wrestling at Manchester Music Hall, potentially against this dude right here. You don't want any. You know you don't.
Starting point is 00:09:32 Yeah, yeah. Shannon, we all know you can run faster than me eventually. I'm going to catch up. We'll see. We'll see about that. I don't want to do anything right now on the, you know, in the road time. We need to be professional right here. There's a lot of state police around here to hold me back from me. So, what's good to see you, man. Thank you for making the trip. I appreciate it. Thank you. Cash flow here at the state capital. If you are in Frankfurt and you want to say hello, you can. We're not allowed to have an audience here, they said.
Starting point is 00:10:00 But you can feel free to come up and say hello. There's Joe Mack taking a picture with Abraham Lincoln. He's a Canadian. He's looking immaculate. It's immaculate Joe Matt. He is immaculate. The best outfit, Luke Curtis, came in a robe. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:14 That's what I said by. He just got out of the shower and the robe on. He did robe pictures out here in the rotunda earlier. He gets set at the podium. him, he was everywhere. For those of you that watched wrestlers, he's the guy who calls himself certified. Yeah. And he came in and cut the promo with Al.
Starting point is 00:10:28 He, when we took the picture at the end, just grabbed the microphone from the Senate television thing and just started talking. He cut a promo. He cut a promo on the Senate. This is so ridiculous. It really is. Like every aspect of today. He got a promo on this. He was like, Kentucky Senate.
Starting point is 00:10:50 I'm certified and I'm coming in right now. I'm like, are you serious? Is this another live feed? Well, it was on like the Senate took a video of whatever it was going on and it wasn't in the chamber. It was right outside, but he got a promo on the Senate. When I was sitting with all of one of the security guards came out to me, he's like, I'm putting you in charge of this group.
Starting point is 00:11:12 And I said, I don't want that responsibility. You got it. There was an older security guard who goes, you know, I'm one of the sergeant at arms here. I told everybody if things get out of. hand these dudes start to make trouble I quit good strategy so anyway that was very nice and thank you to the Senate for making that happen I uh shallan say there did you no one took she had to have taken a thousand pictures taking her sunglasses off and she walked in here she has to have taken a lot it was I really enjoyed it but I really like how much they enjoyed it that was neat well
Starting point is 00:11:46 and I didn't get to hear what the center other senators were saying but like Drew and Shannon were both talking about how they meant how much it meant to them watching ovw watching wrestling growing up and now much a part of the community they are i'm not going to say which one one guy got up and he said something that i'm not sure's 100% true he said wrestling started television that's what he said yeah yeah i don't think that's true but you know what hey we'll take it we'll take it wrestling started television i didn't realize how loose they are in the program uh the guy was Well, he pointed to another guy. He said, we weren't even alive before, or we were born before the TV.
Starting point is 00:12:23 And the other guy went out of his way to go sit down and get the microphone and say, I just want to be clear. He's old. The other guy has to be called on to make clear that he wasn't as old as the other. He was like, I was born after the TV. I just want to let that be known. Let me say, although also this, it's a little weird to confront face-to-face people that we've talked about on this show. When they were doing roll call, I recognized a lot of names because of you.
Starting point is 00:12:47 Shickles, Pickles. I said that on the pre show. When they called him in the roll call, I giggled because the only thing I know about him is Shiggles Pickle. It's Shickles Pickle. I don't even know why we call him Shickles Pickles. Because he has a pickle fest every year. I want to go. And he calls it at his farm, he calls it Shickles Pickle.
Starting point is 00:13:07 That's how we do. Yeah. So you had Shickles Pickle. You also had, I didn't see Damon Thayer, but Robert Stivers was there. Robert Stivers, stopped by our table here. There were a couple whose names have come on. I didn't see the guy, remember, who threatened me at the chamber dinner. You remember that?
Starting point is 00:13:25 I didn't see that guy. There's David Yates. Thank you. Come here real quick, David, just for a second. This is Senator Yates. He's the one who sponsored the bill. We just have a couple minutes, but first of all, I can't believe you took a chop. Well, I don't know if that's what you call it.
Starting point is 00:13:42 I almost went down the step. What, real quick, what made you decide to do this today? It was very, the wrestlers really were honored by it. Well, first of all, we got so much talent here. And I want to recognize good people who are doing good things for my community. And really, I look at the wrestlers, I mean, they're heroes to so many people. And the way they were wanting to give back through the community. And, you know, when we have a positive thing in Kentucky, I think we have to underline that.
Starting point is 00:14:07 We have to show that. And they did that here today. Well, that was very, very nice of you. And all the people who spoke. And one guy highlighted, or maybe it was Julie Adams highlighted, the work they do with, like, Special Olympics and those folks. These guys really do an amazing job with that. Absolutely. And, you know, you watch the couple of kids in the room, the way their eyes lit up.
Starting point is 00:14:28 But mostly, I want the adults to know, too, that we have athletes here in Kentucky in our backyard that are giving back to make their community better. It's entertainment, it's fun, it's awesome. It's a great sport, and I just think more and more people need to know about what they're doing. Did the chop hurt? How is your child? To be fair, you flinched a little. Oh, yeah, I try to turn. You turned. You flinched a little.
Starting point is 00:14:49 Hey, I almost ran. But I will say, I give you, not many people are going to do that. I didn't see Robert Stivers voluntary. Flo's a big man, that's for sure. Well, thank you, man. Appreciate you. Also, best shoes on the floor today. I noticed as soon as you walked in.
Starting point is 00:15:06 Those are great shoes. Well done. I like the fashion. All right, 859-280-2287. We're going to preview the UK Auburn game. We are right next to Henry Clay, Abraham Lincoln. What is that? Ephraim McDowell.
Starting point is 00:15:20 And who's that? Albert Barclay. Albert Barclan. Albin from old Paducah. I'll also note the lieutenant governor walked up and yelled it, Ryan. Yes. For saying her husband was a basketball coach and skipping that she was a basketball. We said, who's the best basketball coach in government?
Starting point is 00:15:35 And you skipped over the lieutenant governor and went to her husband. She kind of sternly but nicely scolded you for that. She did, and to be honest, she kind of scared me a little bit. I was backing down. Yeah, she like, look, he's not the only one of my family can coach basketball. Yeah, let's not skip over it. Ryan got scolded. He did.
Starting point is 00:15:56 Yeah, I did. Like a child. Ryan got scolded, which, to be fair to her, Drew, I thought that, you know, who's the biggest in government, the lieutenant governor's husband, and skipping over the actual coach? We knew in that moment he messed up. I think you corrected him right away. We tried to save him.
Starting point is 00:16:13 But, I mean, this is her home court. We're in the rotunda. That's true. The office is right over there. You knew you were getting to talking to them. It's a road trip for me. So, all right, 859-28027. We will take a break, preview the UK Auburn game and more.
Starting point is 00:16:26 There are children walking through here. It's very exciting. This is Kentucky Sports Radio. Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio here at the Capitol. We now got a state rep sitting here. He tried to bring us in the house. They wouldn't let us in.
Starting point is 00:16:38 This is Sarge Pollock from Campbellsville. He came by for the pre-show, too, big fan. Yes, Sarge in the house. Thank you very much, Representative. A bunch of kids have just walked in. Hello, children. How are you? Nice to see you.
Starting point is 00:16:50 Where are you all from? What school? North what? North View Elementary. North View Elementary. We'll enjoy your tour today. Billy, I think,'s going to join him here. He gets right in.
Starting point is 00:17:04 I did get somebody said, David Yates. Yes. Big athlete at Holy Cross High School back in the day. He looks like it. He does, doesn't he? He looks like he can play. Yeah. So thank you for that.
Starting point is 00:17:14 All right, we'll get to other stuff. First of all, Bush, is it Hamden or Hamden? Hamden is going to be on the show at 11 o'clock. So this will be our first interview with UK's new offensive coordinator today. He will be on at 11 o'clock, so that'll be exciting. Everywhere I went today, you know what everybody asked me, are we going to beat Auburn Saturday? That was like the biggest question.
Starting point is 00:17:37 It was, thanks for coming. Are we going to meet Auburn Saturday? I didn't know, I think we may have said it yesterday, Auburn has won every game at home by over 10 points. Well, they're due to lose, that's what I hear. Oh, you're feeling confident. They're due to lose. You weren't confident about some of these other games.
Starting point is 00:17:55 You feel confident about this? I mean, isn't this Kentucky the last few years? They win games that we don't expect them to win. They've done that. So I feel like this is a huge opportunity. Of course, it's going to be their Super Bowl at Auburn. But I think Kentucky has a chance at least. I'll say that.
Starting point is 00:18:09 I certainly think they have a chance. I don't think Auburn is unbeatable, and I think, Ryan, when this Kentucky team plays well, they're as good as anybody. They are. When they're playing well and hitting shots, they absolutely can beat anybody. Now, Larry Vaughn's reported this morning that Trey Mitchell unlikely to play. Does that sway how you feel? I certainly wasn't going to play. So it would be nice to have him. I think he would definitely help. I still think we can win, but I do think that's a loss. I do, I think it's a big blow. I think this would have been a game that he would have been helpful.
Starting point is 00:18:38 Yeah, and I think back to Florida where they won and he was so important, not just with matchups and what he did in the game, but he was just a veteran presence. They did the journey interview and they let him narrate it when they got home because he was such a big deal in that game. He even told the story if he started jawn with the student section so they'd leave the freshman alone because he saw that it was getting to the freshman. So he said, I want to turn their attention on me. I can handle it. So he intentionally went at Florida's students so the freshmen could have a little bit easier for a path. So I think they need them really on the matchup because the front court isn't built well for these seven footers, but I think they're going to miss them just as much with the experience.
Starting point is 00:19:14 I agree with you. This is one of those times that you want to get, you want to be going full strength. What about the atmosphere down there? I've talked about it. I think one of the top two, when it's good, because it's not always good, but when it's good, I think it's one of the top two or three atmospheres in the country. It'll be insane. I mean, they've been camping out since Wednesday night.
Starting point is 00:19:35 It's going to be absolutely insane. Everybody knows the history between Bruce Pearl and John Caliperi and the history now between Kentucky and Auburn has developed into quite a good little rivalry in basketball. So it's going to be – Have you guys ever been? I've never been. I've been, but back when Tubby was coached. I haven't been during this era.
Starting point is 00:19:52 It wasn't as good, though, then, right? Well, they had Chris Porter. They were ranked like fourth in the country. No, but I mean like that was the old arena, wasn't it? I think it was the new arena. Okay, all right. By the way, this Capitol just – I got a text built in 19. 2004 to 1910 and then opened in 1910.
Starting point is 00:20:08 Can you imagine doing this? No, it's beautiful. It really is. It's massive, too. And they're redoing it. So this will be the Senate chambers we were in, Shannon. They'll be in temporary chambers for the next three years. So we have to be one of the last groups to be there, you know.
Starting point is 00:20:23 Well, we deserve it, right? Don't you think that's what they predict? By the way, I like that you wore your gold sequence. Of course. Sitting in the World Heavyweight Radio Championship belt. Looking a little rugged. But, you know, I defended every night, so that happens. you know. It's going to get a little wear and tear on it every now.
Starting point is 00:20:37 A little, belt a little rough around the edges. Like Shannon. Kind of like the LVW fans. Kind of like the whole crew we had here. Everybody was a little rough around the edges. So what do you think spread's going to be when it comes out at 2 o'clock? I said Don yesterday. I actually want to go higher. I forgot. I bet South Carolina plus 15 there. So if they were at 13, 14, 15, I would think Kentucky won't be any lower than that.
Starting point is 00:21:04 I'll listen, if it's 15, I'm betting. And I will, too. I'm just trying to guess what it could. I don't think it'll be that high, but South Carolina has started around 13. I'll stick with, I think I said nine years. I'll go 10 just to take a little higher from yesterday. But it's not just this season in that building. I saw they've lost two games in three years.
Starting point is 00:21:23 This year they're winning every game by double digits. And Wednesday night against South Carolina, their big men shot 60% from three. I thought that was a fluke game. They've done that in every home game in the S&S. C. Shooting 60% from 3. Well, you know, we're so good on defense. They won't happen to us, right?
Starting point is 00:21:38 We're going to stop them. I just, for some reason, though, I'm not giving up on tomorrow. I mean, Auburn is clearly the favorite, but I do think we have a fighting shot. One person in the text machine says, Sarge is my representative. He would fit in well at OVW. Well, first of all, you already have the name for it. Yeah. You could be Sarge.
Starting point is 00:21:59 Slotter. I think it's taken. Representative Sarge. I think you got it. You don't have to worry about it. All right. What's our biggest win at Auburn over the years? Let me tell you a secret.
Starting point is 00:22:14 I don't remember a lot of them. I don't remember if it was a win, but I feel like one of the games I was there, Derek Willis might have gone off. We could look it up and that could be wrong. But we lost. Was that lost? I think he did.
Starting point is 00:22:28 You're right. You and I were there. Okay. And it was the game when they were going at Tony Barbie. Right? Like it was the game where it was the first game Tony Barbary had been back. And Derek Willis did go off, but I'm fairly sure we lost. You can check on that, but I think that's correct. That was either 2016 or 2017 or 2018.
Starting point is 00:22:49 Whatever year. It was one of the two years Derek Willis got to play a lot. And they lost. In 2019, we won about two, 80-2-80. I believe I was at that one. I went to this one for a lot of years. The year they beat us in the elite eight. We've won at Auburn that year, if I'm not mistaken.
Starting point is 00:23:07 Correct. So that was 20. That may have been the 20. Was that the 2019 game? Yeah, Calvin Johnson and Tyler Hero combined for 40 in that game. Okay. Yeah, I was not at that one. But you and I were at that one where they ended up where they got.
Starting point is 00:23:20 Well, Kentucky, they got game day there tomorrow. Yes. They'll be wild for that, don't you think? It's going to be a crazy environment. And that's why Kentucky, they've got to come out strong. They can't afford to get down early because it could be a long. night. Yes, it can. Would you like to tell people at all, Ryan, a little history of all the things that have happened here at the Kentucky Capitol? Well, it's on the website, Kentucky Capital.com.
Starting point is 00:23:44 You know, Abe Lincoln, the centerpiece in here. Jefferson Davis used to be here, and they got him out of here. Yeah, he was over there. He was over there in that corner. So we think that's where the cash flow statue was going to go after today. Tell people what you know about Ephraim McDowell over here to your right. He's a medical doctor. The Ephraim McDow Hospital, I believe, is in Danville. Pioneer. He was the father of ovarietami. Yeah, tell me what that is. Probably have something to do with ovaries and the tominy of it.
Starting point is 00:24:13 I'm just guessing. But he's all, he from big over a guy. Big over there, big doctor. Most famous doctor. Eve from now big over a guy. We'll take a break and be right back. This is Kentucky Sports Radio. Welcome back, Tucky Sports Radio here live at the Kentucky Capitol.
Starting point is 00:24:33 where it is OVW Day. People are sending in facts on the text machine. And I encourage you, 772-7745254. If you have facts about anything we are saying about Kentuckians, et cetera, I'm going to read them. Not sure if they're true. Yeah, probably not. We believe him. One person writes, Matt, I work at Eiff from McDowell Hospital.
Starting point is 00:24:53 Ephraim McDowell was known for removing a 23-pound ovarian tumor from Jane Crawford, who rode horseback from Green County to Danville for the operation. My goodness, 23 pounds. It's like removing a toddler. It's like a moving. What's the, is it, what's the HIPAA? I don't know if Jane Crawford was that known 150 years later. I think the best of it back then.
Starting point is 00:25:18 I think the statue should be for her if she rode the horse with the tumor to him. Why is he from getting all the credit? She had to ride a horse from Green County. 22 Danville. I don't, a 23-pound ovarium, that sounds heavy. And she rode all the way there. I agree. She should at least be on this statue somewhere.
Starting point is 00:25:39 Or is that the tumor in that bowl right there? Stop right there. 859-280-22-87. You said you've already been scolded here once. Oh, yeah. Well, you know, you and I wandered off to try to find something to drink, which is not very easy here in the state cap. I don't think we were supposed to be there.
Starting point is 00:25:56 We were down in the basements and the bowels of the building. and as we walked back into the rotunda, that's what this is called. It's called Rotunda. I had a drink in my hand, as did you. But I got scolded for bringing a drink into the Rotunda. Meanwhile, you're over here, 10 feet away, chugging your Mountain Dew like Stone Cold Wood a beer. And they don't say a word to you. So I leave the Rotunda.
Starting point is 00:26:18 And then immediately a woman comes in with her baby, and she's got a gallon jug full of water. And they don't say a word to her. I think it's because you had the gold jacket on. You're the World Heavyweight Radio Champion. You've always got a target on your back. People always picking on you. Yes, people are always picking on you. Don't touch.
Starting point is 00:26:34 Matt walked from one end of the rotunda. Shannon. She don't touch it. Shannon is telling the general public not to touch his belt. Do not touch his belt. All right. Matt walked from one end of the rotunda to the other, drinking his diet and out and do like taunting and police officer.
Starting point is 00:26:47 I didn't know that. I didn't know that that was the rule. All right, quick story yesterday. This is, and I want to say, there's a part of me that's a little bit concerned about whatever may have happened. And so I'm not making light of it. I actually, if anyone knows, I'd like to know because it's kind of been on my mind. I was driving from Middlesboro to Monticello to speak.
Starting point is 00:27:09 I spoke at Monticello last night. By the way, it was great. Thanks to the people in Monticello. It was an awesome event. They have their Chamber of Commerce got hundreds of people. But the road from Middlesboro to Monticello, that's a heck of a road. All right. For those of you that know that area, Middlesbrough to Williamsburg is in and of its
Starting point is 00:27:27 not the best road, but the road, Ryan, from Pine Knot in McCreary County to Monticello is one of the wendiest roads in the state. I mean, it's up there with Buckhorn. I don't know how much you know that area. Don't know very well. That road, I think it's called 92, is a road. Well, I'm just going, it's a road, all right? The only two people on the road for a long time were me and this like work truck. This was in like, I don't know if it's called Roe Pine Hill or something, but there was an open flat stretch or it was the one flat stretch. And he and I were kind of like just, I was riding behind him.
Starting point is 00:28:10 And I passed him, and so now all of a sudden in front of him, and he passed me back. And I thought we were doing like, you know, car brakes here or something, right? So I was going to pass him again, but I didn't. And I'm following him. And then all of a sudden a truck in front of him has a ladder on it. It's like a work truck. all of a sudden we're driving and the truck
Starting point is 00:28:30 or the ladder flies off the guy's truck had the dude in front of being closer to him it had gone through the window it ends up going he goes left I go right the ladder goes left and he ends up running over the ladder like bad
Starting point is 00:28:48 now his truck's so big he's okay I kind of check to make sure he's okay had it been me in front of him I'm not sure my little my SUV would have been able to handle it. But I drive on up the road. Later I look at a map and they have closed the road down at the exact spot where that ladder came off. I worry the ladder went into the other lane and part of me wonders, did somebody hit that coming down the hill and not see it in the middle of the road?
Starting point is 00:29:15 I checked six hours later the road was still shut down. Oh, wow. So if anybody was hurt, my prayers are to them. I've looked to try to see because it was on this. very rural road, but just goes to show when you're driving, like, one second. You never know what can happen. And then when I got on the 92 between Pine Knot and Monticello, I missed a deer by about a half percent.
Starting point is 00:29:42 Like, I felt like I was in a training video with things flying out. But you just, you never know, man, when you're driving. So Tucky Department of Highway Safety. We had a remote three or four weeks ago, and I was just either right before Richard, Right around Richmond on the interstate, and it's raining real bad. The car in front of me started hydroplaining, went off the other side of the guardrail, and far into some greenery and had to pull over in the rain. I could tell from a distance they're okay, but I thought I just witnessed someone.
Starting point is 00:30:09 That is scary if you're a hydropane. Yeah. Yeah, and that guy's, the ladder, it was like a movie. It flew up in the air. And it was so anyway. But I will tell you, if you're ever driving from Pine Knott to Monticello through Stearns, I don't think a lot of you will be doing it. If you do, that's a heck of a road.
Starting point is 00:30:28 Stearns is where the dude that's a Medal of Honor winner is. We always talk about him every time we're down there. That's correct. That's correct. He is. Who's up first? God, Blandon up first. Blandon. Go ahead, Blandon. Good morning, Matt, and the crew.
Starting point is 00:30:40 And first of all, congratulations for OVW, all your success, man. This is great. And most of all, Matt, I want to thank everyone for finally acknowledging a day of celebration for the greatest champion in history. And that would be Shannon, the World Radio. That's right. heavyweight champion. Kentucky Brandon called.
Starting point is 00:30:57 Stop it. Kentucky Brandon. Come to its senses and glorify this great champion, Matt, who eclips brutal San Martino's record of longevity. And Shannon, as we speak
Starting point is 00:31:08 and Matt, I've talked to Governor Brousier about removing every sign and every artery, Matt in this state, and putting up pictures of Shannon with the belt grateful. All right, that's a note. I appreciate the call.
Starting point is 00:31:19 You know what? That's plenty. That's plenty. Shannon does not deserve all of this attention. I mean, How often do we get to the Kentucky brand of call today on the very first call? We got it today.
Starting point is 00:31:29 That's great. Thank you, Blanton. Can I give some attention to our boy, Albin, over here? So this is the statue of Albin Barclay. Yes, he was the former vice president? He's the first they ever called Veep. That was his nickname. Oh, and was he a Supreme Court justice or no?
Starting point is 00:31:43 It seems to be mostly in the Senate. I'm not going to say no, but mostly a senator. But I have to read to you about his death. It is known as one of the most famous deaths in American politics. Really? He said, I guess there was some arguing about seating in a chamber, blah, blah, blah, he said, I'm glad to sit on the back row, for I would rather be a servant in the house of the Lord than sit in the seats of the mighty, and then he died. Right after he said that.
Starting point is 00:32:08 He just killed over? He just had a heart attack and died when he said, I would rather be a servant in the house of the Lord than sit in the seats of the mighty. The applause from the audience rang in his ears, and he dropped dead. Oh, my goodness. Whoa. And that was in the Senate? This is from Senate.gov. I'm going to trust that.
Starting point is 00:32:24 What year is this? That happened on April 30th, 1956. He was 17 years old. It wasn't that long ago. I thought we're talking about like that 1830s. He was 78 years old. He said he would, again, rather sit with the Lord than in the seats of the mighty. So he just died.
Starting point is 00:32:41 Right after he said it. I mean, if you're going to go out, wouldn't you want to go out with some like, Shannon, like wonderful statement? Senate. Yeah, I would be afraid. like no. No, that would be a four-letter word you can't say on the radio. That would be my final word.
Starting point is 00:32:55 Senate.gov calls it the best exit line in all of American political history. Ryan, what would your final sentence be? Give me a cheeseburger and a mountain dude. I'm a happy man. Then you fall over, dad. Yeah, not in the rotunda. You can't have it in the rotunda. You are out.
Starting point is 00:33:14 He's exempt from the rules. You shut up. Who's next? He was Tom. the police. I was not taught. I didn't know. You had it turned up, right now. Who's next? Go ahead. Got Twisting up next. He got Rick laughing.
Starting point is 00:33:27 Twisting. Go ahead. Twisting. Yeah, good morning, gentlemen. So I adore the Capitol building. I was there like last week, and I encourage everyone who hasn't ever been there to go. Yes. Also, following up on an earlier topic this week, for Christian music, the absolute best Christian music artists are Christian medical bands, and those are going to be double-wurst, Prada, August burns, red, and so on.
Starting point is 00:33:49 Did you say a Christian medical band? Metal, metal, metal. Metal. I got it's metal core. Okay, gotcha. Yeah, and the last thing that I wanted to say is most important is that I'm starting to view Cal the same way that a lot of people view Donald Trump. Right. So people that love him, people that hate him, but I don't believe a single word that he says.
Starting point is 00:34:09 So it's just an idea I wanted to pause. I have to listen. I appreciate the call. I'm not getting into that. You know what? So here's my view on the whole cow thing today. We got a game tomorrow. I hope we win.
Starting point is 00:34:23 I'm going to put my, like I think the cow stuff we put to the side, we're in the capital. It's exciting. We want to win tomorrow. So I'm going to focus on that, and there'll be plenty of time to talk about that stuff later. We have to learn facts like 23-pound ovarian tumor horse rides and give me, what was it again? He'd rather sit with the, I don't want to get it wrong. sit with you bums is basically what he said. Another ride with the Lord, then sit with you bums.
Starting point is 00:34:52 Then in the seats of the mighty. Then the seats of the mighty. That's right. The heck of a way to go out, man. He'd rather be a servant in the house of the Lord than sit here with all of you, and then he went, was a servant with the Lord. I'll be dang. That's a way to go out.
Starting point is 00:35:05 I'll tell you what he also probably would have liked to have had. Some Kentucky rain water. Oh, yeah. Kentucky R-E-I-N. Bottle water, now on sale at Kentucky branded at Clark's Pumping Shops, Marathon, Yonder's Market in Fleming'sburg, Caproni's Restaurant and Mazeville, it's Kentucky Rain, R-E-I-N.com. It's water that also the profits, some of it go to fuel better NIL deals.
Starting point is 00:35:29 Trey Mitchell, Beron Brown, Isabella Magnally, Mason Moore, Brooklyn DeLay, and Hadley-Hadley-Williams, they're all on the bottles. Pure alkaline water, it's Kentucky, R-E-I-N. Go to KentuckyRane.com, get some great water and help UK. athletes. We're going to take a break. Be right back. We're here at the Capitol. Bush, Hamden. We'll be on at 11 o'clock. This is Kentucky Sports Radio.
Starting point is 00:35:52 Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio here live at the Kentucky Capitol. I got some nice folks here who've come to say hello. Where did Sarge go? Somebody said Sarge was good at Campbellsville College playing basketball. Where don't Sarge go? They get to go to work. He had some business to attend to you. All right. So I like this. When person writes and goes, Matt, My wife is Ephraim's four times great-granddaughter. Unfortunately, we didn't get any of that big tumor money.
Starting point is 00:36:28 So someone wrote this in. We were kidding, but apparently it's true. The Ephraim McDowell statue right there has a bowl next to it. In that bowl, that's the tumor. I mean, not the real tumor, but that is supposed to represent the 23-pound tumor he took off. That bowl, that thing in the bowl is the tumor. It is not a tumor. No, it is.
Starting point is 00:36:59 It's specifically. You need to touch it to make sure. I do want to see it. You're the monument guy. Get up there. You just see the top half of it. I'm going to touch it. You don't even know what a tumor feels like.
Starting point is 00:37:09 Well, he's about to. He's about to rub the tumor. There he goes. He's given the. tumor anugie. Wow. So does that, what does that, does that feel like a tumor? It is not a tumor.
Starting point is 00:37:19 It is. It is. The official, that's amazing to me that they, but that's amazing me that they chose to honor him and put him next to a tumor. I guess though that's what made him famous and now declared the most famous doctor in Kentucky. Pioneer surgeon, it says, on a statue. Yeah. Father of ovary rotivotivotomy. Well, I didn't know that, but there you go.
Starting point is 00:37:44 So see, all kinds of facts we're learning here at the Capitol today. Before we go, the phone's, a couple things. Caitlin Clark broke the scoring record last night. How about how she broke the record, though? She pulls up from like 38 feet. That's if you're going to break the record, break it like that. Early in the game, she just brought the ball of the court. I mean, like Matt said, it was seconds into the possession.
Starting point is 00:38:03 I think that she had a hand in her face, too. Yeah, she was like, that was Tayshon-esque right there. pulls up from 50 feet. Her. She had 23 points in the first quarter. The all-time record for a woman in a college game is 61. She had a chance to break it. She ended up scoring 49, which to break the all-time record and score 49.
Starting point is 00:38:24 Now, here's the only thing that gets me. I'm sure this was done before the season. But how was that game only on Peacock? How did they, knowing that this was like a historic moment in women's sports, How was that only on Peacock? Good point. I mean, like, if that game's on regular television, I bet it gets the biggest rating for a women's college basketball game of all time.
Starting point is 00:38:47 And they had it only on Peacock. Yeah, think about she's drawn so many people to the women's college basketball. We never talk about women's college basketball outside of our Kentucky team. We're talking about this. A lot of people would have tuned in to watch that. Yeah, I mean, and it was, I will say it was electric, though. That shot, Drew. I mean, like, you got to give that girl.
Starting point is 00:39:07 The guts to just pull up from 40 feet and take the shot is amazing. I mean, the points that she scores is already incredible, but it's not like it's in the paint. And, you know, she's bigger than everyone else and using her size to score a lot. She is pulling up from just as she steps across the line and is hitting it at a pretty good clip from that distance. It's insane how she plays basketball. Also worth noting, two quick things about other UK sports. The softball team has had like an amazing start. They're like 7 and 1 and have beaten four ranked teams to start the season.
Starting point is 00:39:40 They play two more ranked teams in the next two days. So big shout out to UK softball. And then the UK baseball season, Ryan, starts today. Doesn't feel like it's baseball season, but the UK baseball season actually starts today, I think, at Charleston, South Carolina upstate. The South Carolina upstate. The same thing, whatever. Charleston, Southern, South Carolina upstate, they're both in South Carolina. They're a little farther north to play.
Starting point is 00:40:03 Do they play South Carolina downstate? then tomorrow. But yeah, on the road, they got a lot of guys back. We talked about in the pre-show. They got a pitcher who has projected a first-round guy that just transferred in. Mason Moore went from a reliever to this number two starter. So there's a lot of hope for this baseball team this year. So that's all good stuff.
Starting point is 00:40:19 Who's up next? Joe is up next. Joe, go ahead, Joe. Thank you, gentlemen. Definitely a shout out to Matt Yeas for taking the chop. And more importantly, Lord knows we need him out here in southwest Jersey County. He's still alive. Way to go, Matt, and putting on the show, congrats.
Starting point is 00:40:38 Is it Matt Yates or David? David. David. What do you mean he's still alive? He's young. He's younger than us. Oh, he's a lot better than two. Oh, okay.
Starting point is 00:40:46 And the last thing. First of all, they don't blast the, you know, we're good looking. Go ahead. No, you're not. No, you're not. And the last thing is. Hang up on this. Stop.
Starting point is 00:40:55 No, don't hang up. Go ahead. Go ahead. Okay. And would give us hope tomorrow. Years ago, I went to the game in Auburn, Alabama, when Rex Chapman was playing. And my gosh, Matt, the people in the crowd were just amazed
Starting point is 00:41:09 that a young man from the state of Kentucky had 26 points. So tomorrow, I got a big feeling, Reese Shepard. Did I get his name right? Yeah, thank you. Reese Shepard is going to have about 26 points and leads to the victory down at Auburn, Alabama. I hope you're right. I appreciate the call.
Starting point is 00:41:26 That was the game, wasn't it, Drew, where our friend Josh Hopkins broke in the locker room and stole Rex Chapman's gear? Yes, that famous story. It had to be the same game. Publicly or not. But he and his friends, they were like 18 or 19. And when the UK team went out, they were going to Auburn as freshman.
Starting point is 00:41:47 And when the UK team went, they stole in and like, I don't know what they stole, like socks. They were just, they were like such big fans, they went in and took a bunch of stuff. And people, I think the UK team thought it was Auburn people, but it was actually UK fans. statute of limitations got to be up 40 years later. So I think it's probably okay. But I believe that's right. Yeah, I was with him and his Auburn guys for the UK-UNC game, and they re-told the story of Josh was in the lunch line in a Rex t-shirt,
Starting point is 00:42:17 and the guy across from had on a Kentucky t-shirt, our friend Scooter, and they didn't know each other. And they're like, you want to go to the team hotel, and wait for them to get here. And they immediately, it's the most Kentucky fan thing ever. They're still good friends. They went to the hotel, waited for the bus to get there, and there was like the two UK guys stuck in the middle of Auburntown.
Starting point is 00:42:32 broke into the locker room and stole something. I think I'm right about that, that that was the game at Auburn with Rex Chapman. Who's up next? Got Wes up next. Wes, 30 seconds. Go ahead. Hey, it's Wes. Gracie's dad.
Starting point is 00:42:47 How y'all doing? Doing good. I just got 30 seconds, though, Wes. First thing I like to say is congratulations everybody at OVW day. And Shannon, I think you need to put that belt on the line. I think Grace can definitely take that from you, buddy. She's too little. Yeah, we would love to have her today, Gracie from the documentary.
Starting point is 00:43:06 Oh, wow. Have her say that again. Have her say that again. Appreciate the call, Gracie. Hang up on Gracie, Rick. Hang up on her. Thank you very much. How are you going to hang up on a little girl?
Starting point is 00:43:20 Little Gracie. If I'm on the studio just by clicking a button, that's how to hang up on her. Bush, Hamden, UK's new offensive coordinator, will join us after. the break.
