Starting point is 00:00:00 Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and Friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter.

Welcome back, Kentucky Sports Radio, here live at the Capitol in Frankfurt, where a lot of folks are around in the rotunda, beautiful place. I want to give a shout out to Shelly in Pensacola Beach, who listens every day.
Starting point is 00:02:46 Somebody who works here wanted to say that. So, Shelly, what was that, Rick? Sorry about that. Oops. Well, what better introduction to UK's new offensive coordinator, Bush, Hamden, Bush. How are you? Doing great, Matt. How are you guys doing?
Starting point is 00:03:08 Doing great. As you can see, we're a smooth machine this morning. Bush, congratulations on coming to Lexington. And so tell us a little bit. How did you end up here? And what made you decide you wanted to join Mark Stoops' staff? you know obviously things happen pretty quickly and I think when Liam left you know late in this cycle if you will had a prior relationship to coach Stoops and just just what I think about him what I think about the leadership here
Starting point is 00:03:42 and certainly the SEC all played back as in making the move you you've been at Boise State and a lot of people have been trying to since the hiring get a sense of your offense. I know there's been people breaking down Boise State offense last year. Why don't you explain to people? The question I get the most, I was here at the Kentucky Senate today. I had two state senators say to me, what kind of offense does this new guy run? So tell me, what kind of offense does this new guy run? Look, everything is rooted in a pro-style foundation. I certainly lean on my years. I was fortunate to be with the Atlanta Falcons with Steve Sarkisian.
Starting point is 00:04:25 Huge, huge emphasis these days on creating explosive plays, as we know. So pro-style foundation, shifts, motions, variance in tempo, as much as we can do to create confusion for the defense. Those are all things that are going to factor into what we're looking to accomplishes to Kentucky. When you came here, I'm sure you may not have known much about the players that are here. We've got Dane Keys, what would you call yourself, Ryan? I'm like his glorified uncle. Glorified uncle.
Starting point is 00:04:58 I think maybe 20 targets a game for making. But people know the personnel this year. Not so much the quarterback brought Vandigriff, but now that you've had a chance to even preliminarily look at the personnel, how do you think what you do is going to work with the guys on the team now? You know, I'm really excited. I think that is our main job. Certainly early in this process, you mentioned it,
Starting point is 00:05:24 right there, the personnel, right? We all know this is going to be driven by the players. I certainly am not a guy where I'm saying this is my scheme. You guys learn it. It's got to be able to adapt to what we have. And so I'm really excited. I am. I think there's a lot of pieces at the still positions, the tight end room, the slumps that if we put this thing together in the right manner, we're going to be able to have success. You, as you know, I mean, we've had in the last few years for various reasons. I think there's been four coordinators in four years. I mean, when you talk to Stoops, I know he wanted with this hire to get someone that,
Starting point is 00:06:03 you know, he thought was going to be here a little bit. Is that what's your thought on that in coming here? You know, look, I think more than ever in college football, we got to take one day at a time. That's the first thing I'll say. The second thing I'll say is this kind of job for me, being a coordinator in the SEC, doesn't come often. And I understand that there's not many better jobs in football than this one. And so that's my statement on it. I'm committed to being here. I can't tell you how excited my family is to be here. And again, I'm working for the longest tenured head coach in the SEC. I'm working for an athletic director that's been here 20 plus years. That speaks to their commitment. And it speaks to the type of place that Lexington is on the Kentucky fan base. You, you know, the world of college football has changed a lot.
Starting point is 00:06:58 I mean, with the transfer portal and NIL sort of getting guys and keeping guys has become a thing. I know there have been coaches who it's been reported. Like, they just don't kind of like dealing with that. What are your thoughts kind of on the modern world of college football? And are you used to or do you enjoy kind of adapting to what has been a market change in just a few years? You know, I think whether you enjoy it or not, you better at that. You know, and it is what it is. I think every time a guy's making a decision whether to be in college or the NFL,
Starting point is 00:07:31 I look at it as a big-time opportunity, and I think certainly you must develop trust with these guys quicker. You must have a system that's a lot friendlier, right, because you're playing with guys that maybe have only been in your program for a couple of months before they're making their first start. But I think if you can be creative, if you can look at it as an opportunity, it's certainly a way you can get ahead of the care. What did you know?
Starting point is 00:08:00 Well, let me take a step back. First of all, your life story is fascinating. I mean, when we read it the day you were hired, Drew and I were like, this is one of the coolest life stories of somebody I've seen in football. For people who don't know about it, give just a little background on where you're from and how you got into all of this. Yeah, I was born. My dad was working for the U.S. government. I was born in Kuwait City, Kuwait, in 1986. When I was six years old, the Gulf War had broke out, and we were actually on probably more than last flights out of Kuwait City, so super fortunate to have, you know, found myself living in this amazing country.
Starting point is 00:08:44 and, you know, ever since there, just been raised by two amazing parents who've been super resilient. Started in the football game, stayed focused on that, was really led by a brother of mine who was a second father to me, played in years in the NFL, and kind of led me into this coaching career and where I'm at now. Let me, I want to go back, though, you're six years old. What do you remember? I mean, you say you got on one of the last flights out of Kuwait City. What do you remember about that? And what's it like for you and your parents, your family to just at six up and just be gone and not be able to go back?
Starting point is 00:09:25 Yeah, I think certainly, you know, a lot of resiliency. I mean, I was raised in a way for my parents to go, hey, this is everybody's got a story and this is just part of your story. But certainly just resiliency, I think, for my dad. I said this in the press conference. you know, I've been working towards this goal of being here at Kentucky probably since I was 22. And I don't think my dad totally had us settled in this country until he was in his 40s. So I'm just super blessed at what both my parents provided me there. But it's just another notch on there when things get hard, you know, how hard really are they?
Starting point is 00:10:04 Just what my parents went through is really what I hang my hat on. Do you remember anything about that? Like, do you remember, I mean, I don't remember a ton of stuff when I was six, but do you remember anything about that trip or what was going on? You know, I don't. I really don't. I mean, we certainly had maybe a couple things, if you will, from a safety standpoint that we were aware of, you know, in the months leading up to that.
Starting point is 00:10:31 But, you know, I got great childhood memories, man. I was a baseball player. We had no grasp back in the day there. And so it was just like, you know, in between innings. He'd have to take cover, but it was not, you know, it was a great childhood and, you know, had great friends there and everything was pretty awesome. So outside of football, what did you know about Kentucky when, you know, you're talking about moving from Idaho? By the way, we loved Boise when we went to Boise. Oh, yeah, did.
Starting point is 00:10:58 Tin roof tacos. Yes. It was great. We spent a few days there. Kentucky played a basketball game there in the tournament a few years ago. But when you're packing up and moving to Lexington, what did you know? about the state coming into it? Not a ton, you know, probably what everybody else does
Starting point is 00:11:15 and the long tradition of the horse racing. I just remember, you know, and it's just so funny, you spend the 24 hours, the 48 hours when you come play teams and you get a feel for it. And I was just always so shocked at just the size of the city. And I think it's obviously an unbelievable college town, but just, you know, how many? other things there are to do and have certainly had plenty of people who have lived here and loved
Starting point is 00:11:44 living here. And so that's the excitement for us as a family. Well, listen, Bush, thank you very much for taking the time here. We are glad to have you. Spring practice is coming up. I'm sure you're looking forward to getting out there with the guys. Yeah, we are, Matt. I appreciate you guys having me on, man. Look forward to meet you soon. All right, there you go. That's Bush Hamden, new offensive coordinator for Kentucky. I thought Ryan was going to was going to try to sell his realtor skills. I thought he was going to come on there and ask him
Starting point is 00:12:17 if he needed help buy in a house. Caldwell realty professionals there, Bush. He needs to help. He can listen to the podcast. I mean, I feel like if you were going to do it, you were going to have to do it right there. I did want him to commit to throwing the ball to date number six 20 times, but he didn't want to get into that either.
Starting point is 00:12:33 He shut that off. He doesn't need to hear from parents of. of players or family members. Seems like a nice guy, and we'll see how the attack ends up being, Drew. Yeah, I said this earlier, I think maybe on the pre-show, but he's nailed the first 24 hours. He did a good job here on this show. He had about a 25, 30-minute press conference yesterday I caught the replay of.
Starting point is 00:12:56 Two things he said on that that we didn't get to here. I liked yesterday, he said he expects his quarterback to get one to two first downs with his legs a game. So there's no more run of the QB. He has a quarterback. that wants his quarterback to use his wheels a little bit. And he said he prefers calling plays from the booth, not the field because he likes the unlimited black coffee.
Starting point is 00:13:16 And now he shares that with the press box. And me, Nick Rouse and Adam Luckett, we take that earn down ourselves. So UK, Krogerfield, we might need to double the order going in the fall. He's going to be drinking at all. That sounds like a Shannon thing. I want to sit upstairs because it's comfortable. That sounds like something you would say.
Starting point is 00:13:33 It's cozy out of the elements, absolutely. Seems like a likable guy, has a great life. story. I'm going to be interested to see how he and Van der Grip worked together in the entire offensive scheme. Like we said, it can't be any slower than last year. So there's only one way to go from here and that's up. Shannon, you seem to really like the part where Matt asked who's going to stay a while and he said, well, it's an SEC job. Yeah, I looked at Drew. I gave Drew the side-out. He's like, well, you know, we take it one day at a time. I think somebody told him, don't do the, I'm going to play it route. Don't say that. Liam Cohen did. Like, I think that was
Starting point is 00:14:05 clear. Ryan did not want to say that. Yeah, he handled that question very professionally. He didn't want to commit to anything. But, you know, he did seem pretty excited to be here, and I think we're excited to have him. A couple things before we get back to the phones that I like from yesterday. A little tiny stories. Did you see Grant Williams, former Tennessee flopper, played for the Celtics for a long time, got traded to Dallas? Right before the trade line, he got traded again.
Starting point is 00:14:33 He's gone. And when they asked a story came out yesterday that says, when they asked why did Dallas trade a guy that they just traded for? The story was the team got tired of hearing him yapping, and they thought he'd talk too much. Wow. That's the first time anybody's been traded for talking too much? Wow.
Starting point is 00:14:52 Have you ever heard of that before? I don't want to listen to your mouth, so I'm trading you because you talk too much. As much yapping, it goes on in the NBA game now, and they think he talked too much? Yes. Wow. I think that's one of the funniest things in the,
Starting point is 00:15:07 world how would you like how would you feel shannon if after you're let go they're like it's because you won't shut up it's a personality trait right i mean so how long was even there half a season half you gotta have a personality that annoys people if they can't even take more than a half a year of you shut up like we're trying to go over game plan you won't shut up my goodness so i like that then fairly dickens you remember fairly dickinson that last year beat peru in the tournament they were supposed to play a game last night i can't remember who they were going to play, and the game got delayed for a half an hour because they got stuck in an elevator. No, the team got stuck in an elevator.
Starting point is 00:15:45 So they had to take an elevator from their locker room to the court. They got stuck for like 30 minutes. So the game got delayed 30 minutes. When it came halftime, they took the steps. Smart. Smart move. Can you imagine, like, these are big dudes. These are basketball guys.
Starting point is 00:16:00 6-9, 6-10 dudes all stuck in an elevator. It's got to have a little bit of an effect, don't you think? I think so. Psychologically. You've been stuck in an elevator before? Oh, yes, and it's the worst. Probably 20 minutes, but you start to think I'm never going to get out of here. Yeah, like who we're going to eat first.
Starting point is 00:16:15 Yeah, and then there's a part, like, I don't know how, like, oxygen works. And so there's a part of me that's like, are we going to run out of oxygen? Are we all going to die? Like, I'm sure they'd be part of that, right? I got stuck at Kroger Field real late after a game one time. I was just sitting it by myself. I was trying to pull it apart, had bad cell service. I got started for a few minutes.
Starting point is 00:16:34 I'm like, this is fine. I'll get out of it. But after a while, you get pretty cramped in. A button where you can call the fire department, like the little button that rings. You bet does it? Does it ring? I don't know. I'm sure it does. I finally got a hold of soon. There's an elevator. We could go try it and see if that elevator over there is a little cramp too. Oh, yeah. Imagine being stuck in that one. He's built in 1910. So I didn't see whether or not they won.
Starting point is 00:16:55 At Roperina, just the last game, the media was going down for Cal's press conference and they got stuck between floors. Really? I also want to call BS on something. Somebody sent me Detroit. Mercy last night. They announced the attendance from that game. I told you where the guy stormed the court. It's 611. No one has ever lied about anything more than Detroit Mercy did. There were not 611 people on campus for that game, much less in the arena.
Starting point is 00:17:22 So just the thing, Detroit Mercy, you are a Catholic school. Do not be lying about your attendance. There were not 611 people in there. If you counted workers, players, forget it. I was hoping you were telling me that they got a fine for the guy. When you said, did you see what happened in Detroit? $100,000 fine for sprinkling the court. For one guy.
Starting point is 00:17:42 Running out there. Hey, if you hear a waterfall in nature is no cause for concern. But if it's water pouring through your living room ceiling because of a pipe burst, you need to call serve pro. Can you imagine if they had that here? It would be awful. 1-800 surfpro pro, S-E-R-V-P-R-O.com, fire and water, clean-up and restoration. If you need it, check out 1-800 serve pro.
Starting point is 00:18:02 hope you don't, but if you do, call ServePro and they will clean it up. Franchises are independently owned and operated. We will take your calls and be right back. It's KSR. Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio here at the Capitol of Kentucky. It got quiet in here.
Starting point is 00:18:19 It did get really quiet. All the children ran out of here, and so now it's just us. Alvin, Ephraim, his tumor, Henry, and Abraham Lincoln, all hanging out. Four of us, four of them. Just the way it should be. Just pros. Which one's which?
Starting point is 00:18:33 Do you think at night when it closes, they get up and walk around? Wasn't there invited the museum? Who would be in each of these roles? Well, you're the big toe, so you're Abraham. So I'm Lincoln. So who's Henry Clay? Who's the great compromiser? Ryan definitely has the tumor next to him.
Starting point is 00:18:50 I just want to go ahead and tell you. Wait a minute. Would you trust Ryan to take out your 23-pound tumor? No. Absolutely not. I feel like you're Barkley over here. I'm Berkeley? You're the kind of guy who would be like, I don't want to be with you elites and then just drop dead.
Starting point is 00:19:05 Okay. All right. So then which one of you is Henry Clay? I go to Henry Clay's election in a lot. They have free popcorn. It's very good. So I'll be Henry Clay. But that means Ryan's tumor.
Starting point is 00:19:15 I'm tumor guy. I'll take tumor guy. Timmer boy. So Ryan is he from McDowell? All right. Well, that's what we're all going to be. What is Billy? Billy's the one they took out.
Starting point is 00:19:26 Jefferson Davis? But you have got your own monument in Western. Billy's the one they've removed from the building. Vacated. A 592802287. Charlie Weiss yesterday, I want to get what his direct quote was. He said that he apparently is not a fan of Tony Romo's announcing. Okay.
Starting point is 00:19:50 They asked him what he thought about it, and he said, I would rather throw up in my mouth than listen to Tony Romo. Wow. Oh, boy. Charlie. Slow down there, big fella. Tell us what you really think, Charlie. He's not that bad.
Starting point is 00:20:04 He's goofy, but he's not that bad, I don't feel like. I mean, you don't hear people, like, just take shots like that on... That's how I feel about Pat McAfee. You really don't like him. Yeah. Brew. He's cut off. I can't even watch wrestling anymore because they brought him back on commentary on wrestling.
Starting point is 00:20:24 But you know what? You would like him if you saw him when he was a punter for the Colts. because he would like smash people and like only punters i like max duffy that's it well yeah and he took a shot at max that's true he's all about he's all about being for the brand and he took a shot at max but robo i mean he's he's not that bad is he he's he's he's said some bizarre things you gotta really dislike somebody to say throw up in my mouth that's a pretty awful thing to say is i mean i'm a big shock value guy you might say that with your friends or something you don't like but when you're a football coach speaking on the record about an
Starting point is 00:20:56 announcer. I don't know if you know with the shot. He's on the radio every day. That's his job now. He hosts, he hosts the morning show. He's a co-host of the morning show on NFL radio. So he was saying it on the official NFL radio station. He said that about Romo. About an NFL quarterback who's now the number one color commentator on the NFL broadcast. Yeah, pretty harsh words. I'm not going to lie. It's a hard one to come back from. And when you say that, when you run into Tony Romo, like what, like when I ran into Shickle, I was like, how are you, sir? I mean, if you're a robo, I think he's just got to throw up.
Starting point is 00:21:30 If you didn't like it, you see him, you're like, man, I was having a bad morning. But when you say I would rather throw up in my mouth and listen, that's hard to walk back. Pretty bad. Who's next? Got Joseph up next. Joseph, go ahead, Joseph. Hey, Matt, you know, I think about the Albor game. And I think we have a, you know, a very little chance of winning.
Starting point is 00:21:48 Would it be nice to win? Of course, it would. But, you know, we've won one big game all year. and, you know, Cal won't stop changing the lineup so they can't ever get any momentum. Remember we were going to be positive today, Joseph? We're in the Capitol, and we're going to try to be, like, we're going to try to keep good vibes going today. Remember that? Okay, so I guess, you know, I guess I can say we'll win, even though I'm not totally confident.
Starting point is 00:22:19 Doesn't sound confident at all to me, Joseph. We're going to win a hundred and eight. Okay, so we're going to win 108 to 43. All right, there you go. I like it. Thank you very much. Joseph, 108 to 43. It'd be a lot of points, Drew.
Starting point is 00:22:36 I like that there's a big turnaround by him. Now, where is this group? Where are you all from? Jackson County. Hello, Jackson County. Jackson County. Yeah. Jackson County.
Starting point is 00:22:48 Like that tie, young man in the vest. You guys look sharp. All right. Jackson County. Look at the hat. Look at my guy in his hat. I love it. All right.
Starting point is 00:22:57 Jackson County dressing up. The guy specifically told me there were going to be no tours. They were over. He said they're done. They're not going to be any tours during KSR. And now we've gotten four. You have never Shannon dressed up like that kid right there. He has a suit, a vest, and a hat.
Starting point is 00:23:13 And a hat dressed up like that. You've dressed up like that? Yeah. I pulled it off better than that little kid did. Goodness. That's kind of the hat you'd see in. when you put on your rock star. I think Shannon doesn't realize this is KSR not OVW.
Starting point is 00:23:26 He's a full hill this morning. What is wrong with you? He didn't hear me. I don't know where that goes. Who's up next? God, Sindigant again up next. Syndicate, how are you? 859-2-8-0-22-80-7.
Starting point is 00:23:42 What's up? You guys are in one of my favorite places. I'm usually in the Capitol during session two, three days out of a week, but I'm going to tell you some secrets about the Capitol that you might not know. Okay, you ready for this? All right. Yes. All right, look, at every door handle, there's a pair of man shaking hands, right?
Starting point is 00:23:57 Every door handle is a man shaking hands? It's a pair of man shaking hands. Okay. Because you're always boning something. You know what I'm saying? There's a lot more symbolic about it. I'm not going to have to look that up. Also, in the back room, right, where he does the press, if you go to the end of the hall on the right-hand side behind you guys,
Starting point is 00:24:16 that's where they do the press where you're always seeing with the blue screen behind. Well, the blue curtain behind him. and look back there and see. Oh, there's a trap door. No, no, no, no. Yeah. First or second floor? Second floor.
Starting point is 00:24:33 First floor. First floor. On your way going out. So if on the side of the hall that the governor's office is in, where you got. I know where that is, yeah. All right, go all the way to the end of the hall. Not on the lieutenant governor's side, but on the other side. Ooh, a trap door.
Starting point is 00:24:48 I like it. I appreciate the call. We'll get Ryan trapped in there and he'll never get out. Real quick. I wonder why there's a trap door. Sorry, Sidicate. We've got to go to break. We'll see you later.
Starting point is 00:24:57 This is KSR. Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio. Let's go over a couple things here. Before we go back to phones, I want to give a shout out to people. People keep coming by in the Capitol and tell me to shout out their people. Yeah. And since they're here, I'll do it.
Starting point is 00:25:11 John, whose wife just said, we didn't get a last name, probably a lot of John. So if your name's John, just assume your wife came up to me and said shout out. Shout out. I do want to give a shout out. Sean Burkitt, who's one of the people. that created the Bond That Bridge, so to speak, Facebook page, which is the KSR fan page on Facebook. You should join it, bond that bridge, so to speak.
Starting point is 00:25:33 His mother passed away. So prayers to Sean Burkett. He and the other folks that do that, there's three or four of them. They work really hard to make that a cool page. And so our prayers are with Sean. He, if you remember, he was the person that you wouldn't give the tickets to WrestleMania, too. Oh, I wouldn't?
Starting point is 00:25:50 Yeah. Oh, I didn't know that connection. context. You didn't know at the time. But we ended up getting him tickets and he ended up got to go. So prayers to he and his family. Yeah, tough, man. Hang in there, dude. You know, you mean a lot
Starting point is 00:26:05 to a lot of us and I know you're going through a hard time, so just hang in there. Tomorrow, the Kentucky Auburn game, come to KS Bar and watch it. I will be there. It's going to be my second game I've watched there this year. I've got like 16 people coming. Do you really? So if you... Wait a minute. Did you get invited? I did not.
Starting point is 00:26:21 I don't want to hear about it. I don't want to hear about it. You and I supposed to watch the Super Bowl together and you just never called I never did anything you didn't watch the game I watched it but you knew you were supposed to watch it with him you were going to watch me so you said you didn't do anything but you did exactly what you invited him to do with you that's exactly I wasn't asking to like we weren't going to do a dance we were just going to watch the super bowl yeah my bad I had phone service problem that day sounds like you didn't want to watch the super bowl with Matt's what it sounded like I had a long day that day I was remember I had a lot going on that day doesn't he that's what it is
Starting point is 00:26:53 I'm like Grant Williams with you. You don't want me there for the... So that's why you didn't get the invitation. But if you want to watch the game at the bar, I would say get there 515, 5 maybe, because I think it'll be a really good crowd. Games at 6 o'clock tomorrow, our pregame show is at 3.30. We did not talk about what happened Tuesday night on this show yet.
Starting point is 00:27:16 The near wreck that we caused during the pregame show? Oh, we did not? Oh, yeah, that's right. So Shannon probably didn't even know about it. I heard about it secondhand, I think, through Billy. So I had a really good idea on paper. We had three sets of lower arena tickets to give away. One set was from Commonwealth causes.
Starting point is 00:27:38 Two were just from listeners. So I did it. First, we did it for callers to the show. All right? We had like a contest and somebody won. Second, there were a lot of people waiting to get a seat, and I knew they may or may not get seated. so I had Drew picked someone who was waiting to be seated who didn't have tickets to the game.
Starting point is 00:27:56 That's nice. So for the third one, I was like the first person to, Ryan was going to run outside to Broadway. The first person to give him a high five would get tickets. Not the best guess in the world. First of all, I didn't assume that three cars would pull into the parking lot in front of each other and cut each other off. there was nearly a wreck. Ryan, you were there. How close was it to a wreck?
Starting point is 00:28:25 It was close. You know, when you're going down South Broadway, there's a turning lane to get into our parking lot. So I was on the sidewalk by the turning lane. So a guy was coming in the turning lane, and he saw him and he rolled his window down. But as he's getting close to me, a car that was going down South Broadway,
Starting point is 00:28:39 just cut him off right in front of him. And he had to slam on his brakes to keep from hitting her. And then the car behind him had to slam on their brakes from hitting that guy. It was almost bam, bam, bam. When the woman came in and she admitted all this, she's like, I should have done that. Let me say, so the guy comes in, he's going to win the tickets. As we're doing it, the woman that almost hit him, she comes in to apologize. I could tell we had a lot going on, so I put her on the show as well.
Starting point is 00:29:07 She was a little frantic apologizing, and the dude she almost hit gave her the tickets because she hadn't been to a game since she was nine years old. Nate. How nice is that. Nate. So Nate. And then, Shannon, we had a caller who heard Nate's generosity and then donated tickets to Nate. Wow.
Starting point is 00:29:24 So the guy got cut off and still gave up his tickets. And still gave up the tickets. He's a better man to me. Yes. So it was a very, it was a feel-good thing. But Ryan almost caused a wreck. And by Ryan, I mean me. It was close.
Starting point is 00:29:39 I mean, there were tires screeching and I'm two times back-to-back. So remind me when we do contest, give Ryan a high-five on a crowded stream. is not the contest to do. Maybe I should have just gone out in our parking lot instead of being on South Broadway. Yeah. I noticed when we did the show on South Broadway that day, I'd say eight out of ten cars that passed, they're
Starting point is 00:30:00 looking at their phone and not at their road. We noticed that day being there for an hour. How many people are not paying attention? I did not realize. You do not realize how many people. That day, we stood out there in the morning, all day, Drew and I doing this show while Ryan danced
Starting point is 00:30:15 up and down the street. And it was amazing how many people are not buckling up and putting their phone down. It was kind of crazy. So maybe we should leave Broadway alone on next game. They're clearly not paying attention what they need to be doing. Who's up next? Got Matt up next. Matt, go ahead.
Starting point is 00:30:34 Hey guys, good to talk to you. Ryan, glad you're okay. You guys probably need to take care of Ryan. You know, he creates his own mischief. You don't need to send him out there on Broadway. I like how they treat you like you're like eight. Like, take care of our eyes. But go ahead.
Starting point is 00:30:50 I think our guys tomorrow, you know, they're going to go incompetent. They're not going to let the crowd affect them. And I hope they have a good game and play well. Observation that I made, I was watching Auburn play South Carolina the other night, their defense, something that we don't do, which I know, Matt, you said there's just no help for it. But our off ball defense, our guys don't stay on their man. And so they're already beat. And the ball swings around.
Starting point is 00:31:17 or somebody drives and kicks out, there's nobody on them. They can shoot. They can do whatever they want. Auburn stays on their men out there. Is that something a coach or what's the reason? Well, I mean, I don't totally. I appreciate the call. I don't know if it's coaching or players, but we do have guys.
Starting point is 00:31:34 So Cal's defense, and philosophy, is he, the players play, I mean, every coach, usually most stay and, like, have their players help. but Cal's guys sort of lean towards helping me. They're kind of in help position farther off the other players than usual. That has sometimes over the years causes to give a lot of threes up. What's frustrating this year is they're playing that off their man position and then also not stopping the ball. So they're both leaving their man open and not stopping the ball.
Starting point is 00:32:09 So they're really not accomplishing either of the goals. The Florida game is a perfect example. or not, excuse me, the, yeah, the Florida game with Reed. He both wasn't on his man and wasn't helping. That's, I think, Drew, where it gets really frustrating. Because there's a couple different ways you can do it, and we find a way sometimes to not accomplish either. And sometimes they'll help when they didn't even really need to.
Starting point is 00:32:31 It's a guy that's not even a threat, and they'll go help out and leave the best player on the team wide open. It just seems to be a, it doesn't seem, it's obvious, that they can be very confused a lot of times. Even though the pick and roll, that's the biggest problem in the team. A guy will get in no man's land, guarding nobody, and just react the wrong way to how the other team's playing. The caller is correct, though. Auburn as much as any team we've played, they take the view that A&M did when we played them, and to some extent, South Carolina did, which is they're not helping.
Starting point is 00:33:01 So, like, you're not going to get open three Reeves looks like some of these teams give us. They are not helping, which means our dudes that can beat a dude off the dribble, Ryan, specifically, DJ Wagner, it is important that they play well because we're not going to get the drive, draw two guys open three. They're going to just say beat us at the rim. You know, South Carolina had that game plan and worked to perfection. A&M did too. Those guys that get out on the perimeter and they just don't leave their man. So yeah, you're right.
Starting point is 00:33:34 It's a big game. And DJ had some success. Get into the rim like that. Now that he's healthy, he continued to move on that. But the thing is Vandy couldn't guard our guys. So we were able to score. Auburn, Shannon, is a better defensive team, unfortunately, than your Vanderbilt comments. Yeah, that's apples to oranges, comparing the best team, arguably, in the SEC to the worst team.
Starting point is 00:33:54 So Kentucky's just got to come out and hopefully have a good offensive day, you know, be able to shoot a high percentage. I don't know if you can match what Auburn's been doing, though, shooting, what, 60% in that last game? 60% at home in the SEC. If they shoot that again. They're big guys. Williams and Brune. Yeah. I mean, they're calling themselves the Splash Brothers, and that's their two-fes.
Starting point is 00:34:14 forwards, they're stepping out and hitting threes in an insane clip. I mean, if they shoot 60%, well, there's nothing you could throw your hands up in the air. The two big guys are shooting six. Like I said, tomorrow I want to win. But I don't think tomorrow, I mean, you could, like I said, you could have a great team and lose that game tomorrow. Yes.
Starting point is 00:34:33 So like, it's tomorrow to me, if you listen, if we lose and you listen to post game show, unless we get blown out, I'm not doing like a, this is an indictment of the Calipari era. Tomorrow is not. Now, if we lose again to LSU or something like that, then that's a different conversation. But tomorrow is not like, tomorrow's a hard game no matter what. I mean, when the schedule came out without even seeing Kentucky dribble basketball yet, I thought, Auburn.
Starting point is 00:35:00 It's just how it works. Such a tough place to play. Cornbreadhip.com, you know, this president's day, why not smooth your baby? What? I meant to say, soothe your smoothie. Or smooth your baby. Smooth your baby with cornbread hemp.com. So what's it really supposed to say?
Starting point is 00:35:20 Soothe your sweetie. Smooth your sweetie. Smooth your sweetie. Smoothier sweetie. Soothe your sweetie. Don't give it to your baby. Now, I met your baby like your baby girl. What's that baby girl?
Starting point is 00:35:31 Baby girl? What's that baby girl? Want some cornbread hemp? It's full spectrum. It's flour only. What a pickup line. I got it for 30% off for promo code KSR. Sarge, you want some?
Starting point is 00:35:42 I do. Cornbread hemp? dot com promos. Look at Sarge. Sarge. They may not like that in Campbellsville. Corbreddham.com promo code is KSR. Check it out. 30% off when you use the code. Sarge's
Starting point is 00:35:56 been doing good stuff. By the way, they just told us. So apparently they told this to the kids. Not to the kids. They told it to the adults, not the kids. But this, even from McDow tumor, which by the way, probably will have its own Twitter account before the day is over. Even McDowell tumor, when the woman
Starting point is 00:36:12 that was, uh, that had the surgery, she didn't use any anesthesia. She took, like, took it with no anesthesia. They offered to give her alcohol to, like, help her be drunk so she wouldn't feel it as they took it out. She said, no, I'm a Christian, I won't. So they just sang her hymns. Yeah, she definitely deserves a statue after hearing that story. She's got a hospital named after the Jane Todd Crawford Hospital and Greensburg is named after her. Is that right? Yeah. Well, she deserves. She absolutely deserved a hospital or statue. Can you imagine having a tattoo a tumor taken off of you with no anesthesia no no no there would have been bourbon left in the county if they were doing it to me oh I don't even like to like go to
Starting point is 00:36:56 the dentist and not have anesthesia that I didn't even get a tumor removed no we're not on break this is the actual I love that Sarge was like that can't be the real show they must be on break there's no there's no there's no way That's the real radio show. We'll take a break and be right back. It's Kentucky Sports Radio. Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio here at the KSR Capitol.
Starting point is 00:37:25 The Kentucky Capitol with the KSR Capitol. I'm calling it the KSR Capital. Why not? The newest Fox Sports bracketology is out. Kentucky is a six, opening up with Boise State. And if we won, we would play Baylor in the second round. What do you think about that one? Bush.
Starting point is 00:37:43 Scott Drew invitational and the Bush Hamden and then Scott Drew right after it. Back to back. Scott Drew matchup would be awkward. Whatever you think of what's next, that would still just be awkward. It would be. With the location on that. It doesn't say. They don't have that one.
Starting point is 00:37:59 A couple things as well. OVW, the tickets are on sale for Manchester Music Hall. A little birdie tells me Shannon is in the main event. Well, of course. If I'm going to be in it, it's going to be the main event. And we just found out that Haley is going to be here. We weren't sure she saw all the people. from the show, Haley, Shira,
Starting point is 00:38:16 Cash, and Shannon the dude. We'll all be all the cards. So go to the Manchester Music Hall website to get your tickets. Sold out quickly last time, so get your tickets while you still get. Tickets today, that's right. You want to check. It's a good family event, too. We had a great time last time, and hopefully people will come out again.
Starting point is 00:38:37 The Liljohn concert in Glasgow got canceled. I kind of feel bad. a nonprofit says they're out $55,000. I didn't know that ain't going on that either. They had to, like, put a deposit down, and it was going to, it was 150, basically, little John caused $150,000. So they felt like they would lose more if they actually had it. So I guess they weren't selling a lot of tickets.
Starting point is 00:39:03 Well, the tickets they said were $150-something dollars apiece. That's a lot for Glasgow. That's a lot for Glasgow. It's a lot for little John. I know he was just in the Super Bowl, but. Yeah. But I hate that. Maybe you had a lot of fans in Glasgow?
Starting point is 00:39:15 Like it's just a con-place. Well, you know, if you're a nonprofit, you're like probably trying something new, trying to like, you know, make a splash and, you know, it just didn't work, unfortunately. I feel bad for him. That's tough for a thing like that to take a hit. Yeah, it's a lot of money for a little John. $150,000. I didn't think he would command that kind of price.
Starting point is 00:39:33 Maybe the Eastside boys were supposed to go to. Maybe so. Yeah. So, anyway, I hated to hear that. I don't know if it was a KSR curse. I thought that. Don't play it on us. Then it goes away.
Starting point is 00:39:44 Who's up next? Got Jay up next. Jay, go ahead, Jay. I feel like we're the only people left in this building. Is there anyone else here? It's like these three guys and us. Billy and the tumor. Yes.
Starting point is 00:39:57 First time and long time. Who are? What's up? Well, a few minutes ago, you all were talking about getting stuck in an elevator and the different things you'd have to worry about, like running out of air. I don't know if you heard it. Apparently, you don't have to worry about that.
Starting point is 00:40:11 Yeah, well, Shannon mentioned that you'd have to figure out who to eat first. Now, I think that's a question that needs to be answered. Now, if Billy's with you, it's... You eat Ryan first. Ryan's the oldest. He's got some... He's got some juice on him. Or maybe meat is better than juice, but he's got some...
Starting point is 00:40:32 I just think he's probably the best. Wouldn't you think he's the first one to go? I mean, we love you, but like... We're going to eat you, though. Understood. Just flavor. The barbling flavor. Ryan's also got kids.
Starting point is 00:40:47 You got to take it. Ryan does have kids. That's right. So let's eat Billy. Well, I mean, it goes without saying you'd eat Billy first. But what if it's just the four of you there? He's a appetizer, though. Yeah, exactly.
Starting point is 00:40:59 That's true. He's skinny. Yeah, I don't know. That's true about the kids part, though. I appreciate the call. We want the kids to be able to have, you know, I think we have to eat Billy. I'm sorry. I mean, I like you, Billy.
Starting point is 00:41:10 but we're probably going to have to teach you. That's the way it goes. It's an easy decision. What's the next? Who's up next? Got Shane up next. Shane, go ahead, Shane. Hey, Matt.
Starting point is 00:41:23 I just got a quick comment real quick. Okay. So I think I watched the Auburn, South Carolina game, and I saw that they're using up all their shots. They shot, like, 60% from 3 and, like, 64% from everywhere else. So I think they're going to have, like, a horrible night shooting and everything. and I think we're going to win 88 to 64. Well, I mean, I don't know about 88 to 64.
Starting point is 00:41:48 But I will say, and I appreciate the call. You know, we've had all these negative stats over the last few weeks about how bad the last four years have been, et cetera. The one thing that's been different in a positive way is just when it looked like we had no chance we've won those games. the game at Tennessee twice the COVID year and then this last year the game at Arkansas last year those were games those three games no one gave us any chance to win and we won those is this the fourth time that something like that happens when people kind of universally I mean we just saw
Starting point is 00:42:31 rocky Atkins all these people everybody I see is like who what's tomorrow going to be like maybe Ryan, this is the one where you go get the W. And really, you're right. Cal is at his best usually when nobody expects him to do it. Like when he's, everybody's pointing for a loss, that's when he's often at his best. It's when he's a big favorite. He kind of gets tense and tight sometimes. We will save our pick for tomorrow, but, Shannon, you won't be on the pregame show,
Starting point is 00:42:54 so what do you think happens? Unfortunately, I think Kentucky loses, but I think that they can at least keep it close. I don't think it's going to be anything like we saw when they played South Carolina just a few nights ago. I'll say Kentucky loses 9586. That's about the score, like that score of in that number, I think is not a bad one. Well, I want to thank everybody here from the folks with the Kentucky Senate who made this happen. If you guys, I'm sure some of the senators are listening or their staffs or whatever,
Starting point is 00:43:26 if you guys get a scene how happy you made all the wrestlers and their families today, I really appreciate it. that was, you know, sometimes we forget, like, what bringing people a little joy can be and watching how happy they were and, you know, they stayed and took pick. Just thank you all very much for making that happen. And thanks to Billy and everybody here for sending it up. Thanks to you folks that came out and said hello. And thanks to the people letting me drink in the rotunda and not Shannon.
Starting point is 00:43:54 Yeah, they didn't let me do it. You got away with it, though. You can break all the rules and get away with it. Yeah, they don't let the radio. You do the crime. I do the time. 3.30 p.m. Tomorrow is the pregame show.
