Starting point is 00:02:34 Welcome to Hour 2 of Kentucky Sports Radio, presented by Stockton Mortgage. Now, here's Matt Jones. All right, welcome back. Hour number two of Kentucky Sports Radio, our number three of the Billy Rutledge and Shannon the Dude takeover day. Glad you're alongside with us. Give us call today, 859-280-2287. We're going to throw you a little curveball here. not many guests on Kentucky Sports Radio, but it is President's Day.
Starting point is 00:03:00 We're doing things a little different. And I've been learning a lot about this next guest, and I'd love to have him on the show sometimes, so we made it happen. He was a champion with Plasky County in 1986 and a former Kentucky player from 87 to 91. It's Reggie Hansen is our guest on the Celebrity Hotline. Good morning, Reggie. How are you? I'm great.
Starting point is 00:03:19 How are you doing? I'm doing great. I really appreciate you taking some time to join us this morning. and before we get into some of the history of it all, I mean, how about that game versus Auburn, man? These cats are looking good. I'll tell you what. You know, I've been saying all year with my pulse and everything.
Starting point is 00:03:36 We have the ability to really make a great run. It's just that we were not mentally and physically tough. We didn't play deep as a defensive rebound. You know, those are just effort and pride things, and the cat showed at Auburn in a tough, pressurized atmosphere that they can get it done. They can. and Reggie is joining us.
Starting point is 00:03:56 He played for Kentucky. He was on the staff under Tubby Smith for a while. And now, Reggie, what are you up to nowadays? What are you doing now to fill the day? I have a couple things going on. I have a leadership development in the career consulting company. And I just started, a couple months ago, I just started a new delivery service. It's just like DoorDash and Uber East.
Starting point is 00:04:25 except my commissions are lower for restaurants and merchants and delivery fees are lower for customers. I can provide service, you know, all over the country. And the name of the company is called MidServe. So you're looking it up. It's mid-serve.com. But those are two things that are keeping me busy. Very cool.
Starting point is 00:04:47 Very cool. You're very active on Twitter. I've seen all the comments and opinions that you have. You know, you're a guy that not only played for Eddie Sutton at Context. but also Rick Petino, and Rick doesn't seem like he's having a good time right now, called it the most unenjoyable experience of his lifetime with St. John's recently. Do you have any of those memories of unenjoyable experiences when maybe a Rick Petino practice back in the day? I'm sure there may have been one.
Starting point is 00:05:14 I'll tell you this. One thing about Rick is there's really no in between. Is he the great or it's the best or it's the worst? But you know what? When he came to Kentucky to take over and, Like I said, we had seven scholarship players, and, you know, he had to fill the rest of that first roster out with Walk on. Although it was a tough time, it wasn't a bad time for him because of the fact that, you know, we bought in and worked so hard and improved so much, you know, during that season. You know, people were predicting, not even, I remember Cainwell Lefford. People were predicting us to win five or six games. We ended up 14 and 14 with the type of team we had, which was a hell of a year.
Starting point is 00:06:03 So I think he's dealing with a different type of athlete now, a different type of mindset now in terms of how hard you've got to work and things you've got to do to get better and improve. Yeah, tough times, maybe an understatement for what you went through when you were at Kentucky. What went into your decision to stay at Kentucky despite everything that was happening around you? You know what? Life is going to throw you some curveballs. And I tell everybody, when you talk about role models, I tell everybody my mother's my role model. She had to raise four boys and one girl as a single mother. And she hates when I tell this part.
Starting point is 00:06:41 She disciplined us by proximity. And it's whatever the closest thing she could pick up. You know, she got four boys. So she had to handle business. Right. And so, you know, so that taught me when I committed to Kentucky. and all that stuff went down, did I consider leave me? Yes.
Starting point is 00:06:56 Was other schools recruiting me? Yes. Was it a tough, tough decision? Yes, I had to put a lot of thought into it. But at the end of the day, what came my mind is, okay, if I go somewhere else, who's to say the same thing that's not going to happen? So you can't just run from adversity. You've got to plant your feet.
Starting point is 00:07:14 If there's something you're committed to, you've got to plant your feet, stand your ground and make it happen. And at the end of the day, I end up accomplishing more from an individual. visual award standpoint, then what I even set out to do when I went to Kentucky. So it came out better for me staying, yes, did I miss the in-state tournament, no type of things, of course I did. But at the end of the day, it came out better. And, you know, I still get text, messages, emails, Facebook, comments, posts about me
Starting point is 00:07:44 sacrificing, you know, standing in Kentucky to this day. Yeah, you're fighting through a different type of adversity back then that these kids today don't know anything about me. Shannon, do you think it's as simple as that is that these kids are just kind of acting different? And Rick Patino's just can't deal with these kids anymore. Yeah, I mean, when you've been in the game that long, right? I mean, generations of kids are going to change naturally. So I think that what Reggie's saying is probably a lot of truth to.
Starting point is 00:08:09 Reggie, first of all, I just want to thank you for breaking the color barrier, or at least according to Billy Rutledge. That's what he believed. I heard about that. But, you know, I'm curious. Thank you, dude. Yeah. As a former player, Reggie, what level of fan are you?
Starting point is 00:08:25 Are you the type of fan, like, where you stop what you're doing and make sure you watch every Kentucky game, or, like, do you just casually watch it if you're home and the game happens to be on, you catch it? What level is your fandom at this point? I'll say this in my post all the time, because a lot of the – sometimes fans don't understand what my mindset is I'm a fan of a game, period.
Starting point is 00:08:49 So I catch all the Kentucky games. I catch Auburn games. I'll catch Tennessee games. I'm a fan of the game, period. And so when I'm watching the game, though, I'm not watching it from a fan's mindset because the fans have a totally different perspective. I'm watching it from a former player and a former coach mindset,
Starting point is 00:09:08 and what I would do when I was in those positions and what the team would do, what you would tell your players, what the coaches would say. So I'm always thinking of it from that standpoint. So with that being said, what are your thoughts on this Kentucky team as a whole? from what you've seen so far this year. Cal says they're built for March.
Starting point is 00:09:25 You know, they started off struggling in February, losing three in a row at Rupp Arena for the first time in history. Now they have a big win on Saturday. What's your overall impression of the team so far this year? Right now it's about carryover. I mean, because what they did Saturday is what they haven't been doing. You know, I mean, that's why we've been losing games because we haven't been mentally tough.
Starting point is 00:09:48 We haven't been playing aggressive. We haven't been playing defense. We haven't been rebounding. and when we played against those teams that did that, you know, that's when we lost. And so now it's a matter of, can you have carryover from that game each and every game from this point on? Reggie Hansen, our guest here on Kentucky Sports Radio,
Starting point is 00:10:11 the former Kentucky player and coach. I say that you were an assistant at Kentucky from 2000 to 2007. What do you remember more fondly, Reggie? Was it your time with Tubby, or was it when you were putting the uniform arm in and playing? You know what really is both because it's like not not too many people not too many people get to and I'm talking about the universe Kentucky not too many players or people get to play there and then coach there I don't know I don't know I don't know how many has done it but it's not been a lot and so it really all
Starting point is 00:10:48 comes together because when I was coaching there my experience is there as a player really helped me to connect with the players, really helped me to connect with recruiting because anything that I tell them, they had the belief because I had the proof was in the pudding. You know what I mean? So let's say when I was coaching that Kentucky and I had to really get on a player about something. I had to really push them and working hard. There's nothing they could say to me because I've been there right where they're standing. And they do it.
Starting point is 00:11:18 So they live in. Yeah, go ahead. No, I was just going to relate Tyler Ullis to that role. He's doing that right now with Reed and Rob. Yeah, yeah, I mean, when you've been there, you know, the players, there's nothing that the players can say to you. You know, and sometimes, and I've seen it in this business coaching, and I just know it goes on, is that some players will be hesitant to listen to a coach who hasn't really played and hasn't played at a high level. And so, you know, so that's, like I said, the plan and the coaching there really pretty much came together as one.
Starting point is 00:11:51 Reggie, have you been able to meet John Caliperi in your time around the program? You know what? I've met John when I was coaching at Kentucky, just, you know, in the summertime on the recruiting trail and everybody at different events. But other than that, I've never had, this has been in Kentucky, I've never had any conversations with him or, you know, been face-to-face. Yeah, maybe we can get that changed here in the near future. I do want to ask you one more thing before we let you go. This has been great educating me on who you were Reggie as a player and not only a coach, as obviously I had that goof earlier this year. But it also, I read that you played professionally in Japan for some time.
Starting point is 00:12:28 How was that? That had to be a bit of a culture shock. Man, I'll tell you, well, people ask you about Japan all the time. I could live in Japan. Like, if I got a great situation, when a situation to go back to Japan right now, just, I'm trying to, a lot, it's not even necessarily a sports or anything.
Starting point is 00:12:45 It's in the kind of great career situation. I would go in a heartbeat. I loved it over there. I played over there for eight years. I coached a freshman team for one year. It's just a great country, man. man, you know, the people are great people. There's no violence.
Starting point is 00:13:01 The only people that have guns over in their country is the police and the mafia. And other than that, man, they stated themselves, you know, their tradition, that's very traditional of people. And one thing about, I noticed when I was playing over there, is when players have played in Europe and then they come to Japan,
Starting point is 00:13:21 they struggle in Japan because of the tradition. and the culture. And the first mindset is things to go back to Europe and then until until it's time for that check to come. Because in Japan, you never worry about your money because they're honest in what they do and how they do and if you sign the contract, you get a contract. Whereas in Europe, you know, you may sign a contract
Starting point is 00:13:45 and you may go three or four months without your money and you may have to sue them to get you money. So I just love Japan. And again, I could live there. Huh. I don't know, Shannon. And what do you think? Maybe our next KSR trip going to Japan.
Starting point is 00:13:56 Maybe so. Yeah, I've never been myself. It sounds like a good place to me. Hey, yeah. Let me tell you this, too. Obviously, you know, there's Kentucky fans like all over the world. So when I was coaching in Japan in 2014, we had a scrimmage. I don't have to go back to my Facebook post and pull it up.
Starting point is 00:14:16 But this is 2014. We had a scrimmage in this one area. So we're riding back. And I'm sitting in front of the bus. just looking over the stats from the scrimmage and things like that, getting rid and watch some film. And one of the players said, Coach, look up, look up.
Starting point is 00:14:31 So I look up. And there's this restaurant over there. I think it was called UK number one, Kentucky restaurant. So we stopped by there. It was closed, but the menu, everything was Kentucky this,
Starting point is 00:14:44 Kentucky this. And so I had one of our trainers to look up and see what the deal was. So the person that started at a restaurant had come to Kentucky, back in, I don't know, I think maybe doing the Rup years, early years, and fell in love with Kentucky basketball. With back to Japan, started his restaurant, obviously he had six passed away and somebody that took over the restaurant.
Starting point is 00:15:06 But I have the pictures, like, on my Facebook, but it was crazy to see that in Japan. That is awesome. I wonder if they have any of that Rupp Arena ice cream that Jay Billis like so much over there. I mean, that seems to be a big hit. Well, we can send Jay Billis to Japan. I have any of that. Reggie, really appreciate you jumping on with us to talk a little ball. I did want to ask you one more thing before we let you go.
Starting point is 00:15:29 This is a listener submitted question. Apparently you faced off against the Big Diesel Shack at your time playing basketball. How would that go? It was great. It was great. You know, I had some great moments against Shack. I dumped on Shack a couple times. But you know what?
Starting point is 00:15:46 It was great. You know, I'm a competitor. And obviously, you know, Shack's a competitor. The LSU was a very competitive program at that time, because we had Shaq, Stanley Roberts, Chris Jackson, and all those guys. So I love playing against Shaq. I just love playing everybody that we competed against that was good. And we knew when we had to play, we had to come play hard to win those games.
Starting point is 00:16:11 But I love playing against Shaq. Just loves the game, and I love it. Coach Reggie Hansen has been our guest. You can follow him on Twitter. He does great work online at Reg. Hansen, R-E-G-H-A-N-S-O-N. Reggie, appreciate you in lighting us, and best of luck of whatever you're doing next, man.
Starting point is 00:16:30 Thank you. I appreciate you having me on. All right, thanks, man. There you go. Reggie Hansen. How about that, Billy? Big Blue Nation everywhere, even Japan. And I appreciate you adding in the fact that I said you broke the color barrier not too long ago.
Starting point is 00:16:46 You can't ignore that, right? That's a little secret for KSR fans that listen to the post-game show. I don't know. I guess he had already heard about it. Matt asked you who Reggie Hansen was, and that was your response, right? Yeah, and it wasn't even right. It wasn't even close to being right. Reggie Warford, obviously, doing what he did back of the day, and then Tom Payne as the official first African-American to play at Kentucky.
Starting point is 00:17:07 But that was some good stuff there by Reggie, and I was looking to have them on at some point, and what better time than when the pre-show takes over Kentucky Sports Radio? 859-280-2-287. We'll take an early break here when we come back. we'll get to more of your phone calls and much more nonsense on the way. It is KSR. To talk to Matt Jones and the crew call the Clark's Puppet Shop phone line at 859-28027 or 1-606-4.
Starting point is 00:17:32 You can also text Matt on the A-Vision Glass text machine at 772-724. Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio. We roll along an hour two of this President's Day edition. Had some people send me some President's Day fax. too, Shannon. Oh, you got some. All right.
Starting point is 00:17:50 I've got some now. Let's hear what you got. Okay. Again, this is from the text line today. 5024-14-1724. So not confirmed facts, by the way. Correct. So just like, yeah, just facts are optional in the show.
Starting point is 00:18:02 You know that. Who was the first president born in the United States? Shannon, do you want to take a guess at that one? Well, I'm trying to think. All our founding fathers came from different countries, right? Exactly. I'm trying to think of like, how long would it have to be before you would have somebody that's American born.
Starting point is 00:18:22 And I don't know, like, who are 13th or 14th? Let's see. Abe Lincoln. I'm going to say Abe Lincoln. No, not Abe Lincoln, but good guess. It was Martin Van Buren. Of course. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:18:34 Didn't have that one. I feel like I read that maybe last night, we couldn't remember who it was. How about this? Jimmy Carter was the first president to be born in a hospital. So not only. Really? Yeah. We got people being born in the United States finally, but being born in a hospital.
Starting point is 00:18:48 I guess they were just, all the other presidents were born in barns or bathtubs. Bathtubs or their huts that they're living in back then. Let me throw one at you here then. Okay, what else you got? William McKinley, our 25th president, his likeness appears on the $500 bill, which was discontinued in 1969. Did you know up until 1969 there were $500 bills? No, I didn't know that two weeks of paychecks would be down to one bill. Wow, I'm looking that up right now.
Starting point is 00:19:21 $500 bill. Talk about giving somebody a tip with a $500 bill. That'd be pretty nice. So there you go. There's some good facts for you for President's Day. I love it. I also love that we're loving about, or I also love that we're learning about Japan too. I mean, we got Big Blue Nation.
Starting point is 00:19:37 How big is Big Blue Nation, Shannon? Somebody called during the break. And he goes, hey, man, got a question for you. I said, okay. He said, just how big is Big Blue Nation? Like a couple million, a couple hundred thousand? What are we talking about? I go, sir, we have not done roll call for Big Blue Nation,
Starting point is 00:19:58 so I don't know exactly what that number is, but I would say it's a good number of people. It's worldwide, international. I've got to think more than a few million, right? I mean, the Kentucky fans are out there. Probably, yeah. And they all listen to the pre-show and Kentucky Sports Radio. Lisa, we like to think so.
Starting point is 00:20:13 We appreciate you all doing that. Let's get back to the calls, though. 859-280-2-287. It's the Clark's Pump and Shop phone line. Who we got up next? Xerxes. Good morning. Hey, Xerxes.
Starting point is 00:20:24 Good morning, guys. Good morning, guys. You know, I listened to Reggie Hansen a moment ago, and a quick fact, we used to spend time at the same cigar lounge over in here in Tampa. So I was hoping to get on the phone with them to say hi to him. Had a team in a while. So, anyway, back to the games. Great game, great victory. I love the fact that we're 2 and O.
Starting point is 00:20:50 I have gone to defense. It's pretty good. And I just can't wait to see what they do on Wednesday. Amen to that. Yeah, thanks for the call, Xerxes. We appreciate it. Yeah, I'm from Tampa. So I didn't know everybody was smoking cigars in Tampa.
Starting point is 00:21:06 Shit, they should let me know. I don't think it's like a Tampa-specific thing. I think people smoke cigars all over. Well, I mean, you've got to let me know if it's in Tampa. Just focus the guys with Reggie Hansen. Yeah. But what do you think happens on Wednesday, by the way? I'm too sleepy for the pre-show the next morning.
Starting point is 00:21:23 I think that's what... You think that's what happens? I think that is what happens since we got another 9 p.m. start. You know, we had a good crowd there at KS. Bar for the game on Saturday. I think Matt actually watched the game there on Saturday. He did. What do you think? I mean, what do you say we run that back again on Wednesday?
Starting point is 00:21:40 Maybe have a little watch party at KS. Bar. Maybe Matt shows up. superstitious person, then we need Matt to get all his boys together and go back to KS Bar and Grill. Which is where we need. Yeah. And then Edward needs to get his seven buddies and they need to get in a hot tub. I don't care if it's getting in Gatlinburg or not. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:21:55 But, I mean, if you want to keep the wind streak up, I think it all relies on Matt bringing his friends back and Edward doing what he needs to do, you know. Okay. So Wednesday it is. Watch party at KS Bar. I think that's what we got. I think so. If you're superstitious. Yeah, absolutely.
Starting point is 00:22:12 Let's take another call. Who's next? Sean, what's up, Sean? Hey, morning, Sean. Hey, guys, how are you? Good, man. So, another story I'll tell real quick. Back in the day, my grandfather used to fight chickens, and we won't go into all that.
Starting point is 00:22:26 But I remember he got paid in $500 bills one time, and this was like 1986. So I remember, I remember $500 bills, even though they discontinued them way before my time. But since it's President's Day, I just want to see who your favorite president was, and what a famous quote of theirs was. And mine would be Abraham Lincoln. And my favorite quote of his is, I hope to have God on my side, but I must have Kentucky.
Starting point is 00:22:51 Y'all have a good day. Nice. A great quote dropping there on President's Day. Do you have a favorite president? Well, it can't be anybody recent because then people will lose their mind. Mine's recent. So you go ahead and say yours,
Starting point is 00:23:06 and then I'll be the one that is. You know, I mean, I kind of like Bill Clinton. but of course everybody's going to bring up the Monica Lewinsky stuff. It's the great show of the dude. It seemed like life was going great when Clinton was in. But, you know, I think Abe Lincoln's another favorite. I mean, you've got to like that guy, right?
Starting point is 00:23:25 Or not to like Lincoln, obviously. And my favorite Bill Clinton quote was, I did not have sexual relationships with that woman. We all know it. Or I, what was it? I smoked, but I didn't inhale. Did he say that one, too? I think he did.
Starting point is 00:23:45 Man, he was just on the defensive about everything. It was basically a walking quote book. Elon Musk territory there of not inhaling. I guess my favorite president comes with my favorite quote from a president, and that was George W. Bush that said, I call upon all nations to do everything they can to stop these terrorist killers. Thank you. Now watch me hit this drive.
Starting point is 00:24:08 And he also had another great one. Fool me once. Shame on you. Pull me twice. You can't get fooled again. And that turned into a rap song by Jay Cole. Yeah. I mean, it's a... He did have the quotes.
Starting point is 00:24:23 And obviously, big part of my childhood was in putting on that bulletproof vest and going and throwing out that first pitch. That was badass. I don't care which side of the spectrum you fall on when it comes to politics. But him going out there with the bulletproof vest on, throwing from the rubber and throwing a strike right down the middle. was like one of the most badass things ever. It was America.
Starting point is 00:24:44 A bald eagle could have flew overhead at that moment. It would be perfect. But we would love to hear more of your President's Day's facts if you've got them. It's Billy Rutledge and Shannon the dude filling in for Matt and the guys. We've got two segments to go. Big thank you to Reggie Hansen that joined us earlier. We'll be back to take more of your phone calls. And the UK baseball team had a good weekend as well.
Starting point is 00:25:04 We'll talk about that and much more on the way here on KSR. T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call TJ. He'll make them pay. Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio, KSR pre-show takeover of Kentucky Sports Radio today. Our guy, Corey Price, did it again.
Starting point is 00:25:28 He not only found a old picture of Reggie Hansen, he also posted the sign of the UK-themed restaurant in Japan that Reggie was talking about, Shannon. Of course he did. Is there anything he can't find? No. I don't think there is, and that worries me, honestly. He will find the skeletons in your pass. 859-280-2287.
Starting point is 00:25:48 A couple open lines. We'll get back to the calls in just a second. But the UK baseball team had a big weekend, Shannon. We teased it. Swept USC upstate in Spartansburg, 117-30 and 9-3. They take on Moorhead State on Tuesday. I believe that's the home opener. So Nick Mingeone, building on that momentum for that had last year.
Starting point is 00:26:07 Good start. But, of course, when you get into the... the SEC, things get really tough. So it's really important to build up your resume as much as you can in the non-conference, build up your win total because when you get into the SEC, there are very, actually there are no nights off in the SEC because it's just really top to bottom the best baseball conference in all of America, right? I mean, is there anybody that comes close?
Starting point is 00:26:32 No, there isn't. It always has been, really, over the last decade or two. It was the opening weekend for all baseball across college in this country. And did you see what happened in the Sacramento State Loyola Marymount game? I actually did. I did see this. Okay, you got it on the list. Because one of the players for Sacramento State was hit seven times in eight played appearances over a double header.
Starting point is 00:26:58 Hit three times in the first game, four times in the second game. And just because that happened doesn't mean anything because they were. lost both games to Loyola Marymount despite that guy getting hit seven times in eight played appearances this weekend. Then we talk all the time about the unspoken rules of baseball. I feel like if you get hit seven times in one day, at some point, you got to charge the mound, right?
Starting point is 00:27:26 Obligated to charge the mound after the seventh time. I mean, yeah. I mean, you get hit four times, then five times, then a sixth. If I've gotten hit six times in the same, day, I got to be going up with a mentality. All right. If I get hit a seventh time, somebody's about to pay for it. Yeah, despite seven times, he said the thought never crossed his mind that it was malicious
Starting point is 00:27:48 or anything like that. Oh, just really bad pitchers. Loyola Marymount hit 11 batsmen on that day, not just the seven times they hit the one guy. Yeah, grief. And the video is kind of funny, too. The announcers are just like, you know, by the fifth, six and seven one, they're like, is this really happening? Is this guy getting hit this many times?
Starting point is 00:28:05 I don't know, man. Maybe a whole week in the ice tub after something like that. Yeah, especially getting hit in the same location. I didn't pay attention to where he got hit. But probably on your side, all up and down your side from your knees all the way up to your shoulders, probably going to be bruised up just from getting hit. Can we turn left here for a second? I got something I want to talk about.
Starting point is 00:28:29 Oh, yeah, sure. I was watching a TikTok last night, Shannon. Are you addicted to the TikTok yet? No, no, but I was, it's funny to say that, kind of on TikTok last night looking around. There's some really weird things going on on the live thing. Oh, yeah? You can click on, you can click the live category and see, like, what's going on right now, live on TikTok. It'll just give you some random videos, and there's some weird stuff going on.
Starting point is 00:28:53 I'm like, who's watching this? Then I go, oh, yeah, I'm watching it. Yes, I can't stop watching it. I don't know why I'm watching it. But, yeah, so what's your TikTok thing? There's a lot of weird corners of the internet. Ticot has a lot of them. But I was watching this mom who's got like five, six hundred thousand followers.
Starting point is 00:29:12 And her son lost a tooth. So the tooth fairy came the night before. And the kid got $100 from the tooth fairy. Wow. My tooth fairy back in my day was a cheapskate. That's what I was going to ask. I got 50 cents and a pet on the back. What the hell did you get back when the tooth fairy came along?
Starting point is 00:29:30 I may have got a couple of dollars. I mean, maybe a dollar. I maybe got five. Yeah, $100 I'm yanking out every tooth. I'm like Kanye. I'm yanking out every tooth left in my head just so I can rack up on some money. $100 for a tooth. So I looked it up.
Starting point is 00:29:46 Delta Dental did a poll. And the average payout per tooth in 2023 is $6.23. And that's up from 2022 where it was $5.26. $6 a tooth, Shannon. I mean, inflation's come for everybody. Yeah, yeah. And even the kids are looking out to. They're not getting their driver's license, but hell, they'll get $100 under their pillow.
Starting point is 00:30:08 Well, yeah, I think that's the extreme, right? I think that's a little much, don't you? Yeah. And, I mean, what kind of tooth fairy, I mean, give us one kid $100 and another kid like a dollar or $6? Yeah, what kind of tooth fairy are you? I mean, like, this kid has golden teeth or something or what? Like, how is this kid's tooth worth $100 and everybody else's kids worth teeth are worth, what, $6? I don't know how that works out.
Starting point is 00:30:34 We just had Reggie Hansen on. We're talking about coaching young men. I don't know if that's the best way to coach a son or daughter to give them $100 for a tooth. That's what the tooth for you do is. Maybe they got one tooth and they just lost it. I guess so. They got people in Georgetown.
Starting point is 00:30:48 They got one tooth. Oh, there it is. There it is. Lexington. Let's clean up some business here. What do you say? We got some business to do? What do we got?
Starting point is 00:30:56 First of all, we've got to find a call of the day. I'm going to go ahead and say that Reggie Hansen is our caller of the day. Kentucky Brandet call of the day. Go to Kentuckybrandt.com. Shop on there for all of your KSR and OVW needs. And then I should also tell you, the Drafking Sportsbook app, of course. It is an official sports betting partner of the NBA and with KSR as well. If you're a new customer, you can deposit $5 all the way up to $1,000.
Starting point is 00:31:21 And right now you can get a no sweat bet. That means if you throw down your first bet, no matter how much it is, like I said, anywhere from $5 to $1,000, if it doesn't hit, you get it right back in a bonus bet. It's like getting an offensive rebound. You get a second chance. And you can do it all with promo code KSR with the Draft King Sportsbook app. If you have a gambling problem, call 1 800 Gambler 18 and order physically present in Kentucky. One no sweat bet per new customer issued as one bonus bet based on amount of losing initial losing bet.
Starting point is 00:31:49 Bonus bets expire 168 hours after issuance, deposit wagering, and eligibility restrictions apply. Turns at sportsbook.draftkings.com slash promos. One person says on the text line, can KS. Bar get a hot tub for, so we can lock in for the win. No, I think there's probably some health code violations there, putting a hot tub. You're telling me I can't eat chicken wings in the hot tub? I mean, you can do what you want. It's your hot tub, but I don't think you can put a hot tub in the middle of the bar.
Starting point is 00:32:15 No. I think Tony and Dwight did a show from a hot tub. They did. I was there. I don't know how. I can't remember. I don't think we had it. I think we were running off the battery for that one.
Starting point is 00:32:24 I don't think we had them plugged into an outlet for that one. And did you join them? No, I did not get in. I just watched. Bros. in the hot tub, nothing wrong with that. Yeah. You don't want to get in the hot tub with those two.
Starting point is 00:32:37 Now you're making sense. You never know what those two are up to. Right. Who's on the phone? Shane, who we got? All right. Let's talk to Lee. What's up, Lee?
Starting point is 00:32:46 Hey, good morning, Lee. Good morning. I am driving back from Auburn. Were you at the game? I was at the game. My nephew has season tickets for Auburn, and I always go down and watch it. with him and I went an hour early because I thought maybe the warm-up might be the most fun I had all night.
Starting point is 00:33:06 And it turned out to be the best night ever. So were you just sticking it to all the Auburn fans as Kentucky? And your nephew? Yeah, yeah. It got really interesting. And there were very few Kentucky fans, the fewest I've ever seen at any destination. But all the Auburn fans were really nice to me. They were all saying congratulations, like I did something, you know, so I felt really good.
Starting point is 00:33:31 Then my nephew and I went out to eat afterwards to one of the sports bars, and it was just really fun. I had a great night and now driving back home. Now you're taking your victory lap on the way home. That's right. There's nothing better than a road win that you can be able to see. Talk about the atmosphere. Was it a great atmosphere? It looked like it was on TV.
Starting point is 00:33:50 Of course, a lot of the air got taken out when Kentucky jumped up early. Yeah. Yeah, I kind of got calmer, but those kids were into it. And they camped out. The tents were everywhere, you know. It's just a great school. And I really enjoyed seeing the kids act like that. They're all nice.
Starting point is 00:34:06 And they sang, God bless America at the beginning of the game, before the game started. And they invited everybody to sing. And you could hear a pin drop in there. And then the voices were singing, God bless America. Well, I know Ryan would be crying because I was. It was just, it was really nice. So I had a great time. Well, good.
Starting point is 00:34:25 Yeah. Well, appreciate you calling us. and updating us about the game. And I guess you're going to have to go to more road games if they're going to win like that, huh, Lee? I know. I know. I have one of them that drove to Tampa for the SEC tournament two years ago.
Starting point is 00:34:40 Had the best seats ever. My husband treated me to the good seats and all. That was so awful. And then last night in Nashville, it was bad. So hopefully this year it'll be better. A little redemption story there for Lee. Well, glad you finally got to see you win, Lee. And we appreciate you listening and calling in this morning.
Starting point is 00:34:57 Thank you. you guys. All right, there you go. I love it, dude. Yeah. I'd have to be the big win in person. That has to be fun when you're one of very few fans of a team on the road and your team is just laying it on the home team.
Starting point is 00:35:12 That's got to be a fun feeling. I did see one guy had snuck into the student section. He had the UK gear on underneath. So when the game had started, he ripped his shirt off and then he was the true blue Kentucky fan. So he kind of snuck in. And I like that. What do we want to do here, dude?
Starting point is 00:35:28 Do we want to, we need to pay some more bills? Well, this is the point of the show where normally Matt would call on Ryan for Stockton Mortgage. And, you know, Ryan wouldn't have his phone ready. He wouldn't know what he's supposed to do. And he would fumble around for a little bit. You and I are supposed to do a Stock to Mortgage read, but we don't have any copy. So I thought maybe we'd just make up what we remember. So I'll start by saying Stock to Mortgage, they're growing.
Starting point is 00:35:55 It's a good time to buy. It's a good time to buy. Yeah. you don't want to mess with anybody like you don't want to mess with those online realtors right right you want to be able to call somebody local and deal with the same person every time you make the phone call you can do that with Stockton Mortgage yeah you call them a real person answers the phone and um and if you know they're always growing like Shannon said you already said see you lose because you already repeat it one of my facts well let me pull up the disclaimer here because I think
Starting point is 00:36:22 we do need to get that right uh Stockton.com and MLS 8 8259 equal housing lender and MLS consumer access.org. Oh, so you have the disclaimer, but you don't have the copy? No, no, I just got the disclaimer because Ryan's constantly reminded that he needs to do the disclaimer. So I have emails of the sales staff going, Ryan have to include this. So stock to mortgage, stock to mortgage. So they have three times passed. It's hard to say.
Starting point is 00:36:50 Mortgage. Yes, there you go. A big thank you to Stockton Mortgage and sponsoring Kentucky Sports Radio. All right, one segment to go. We've got some more things to get to. It's been a fun Presidency edition of Kentucky Sports Radio. Billy Rutledge and Shannon the dude, we'll be right back. To talk to Matt Jones and the crew, call the Clark's Puppet Shop phone line at 859-28027 or 1-800-606-4263.
Starting point is 00:37:14 And send us the Kentucky brandit tweet of the day by tweeting Matt at KY Sports Radio. Oh, Shannon the dude, you know me well. A little incubus here on Kentucky Sports Radio. Last time I went to an Alice Blue Gown show, you told me to come up on stage and sing Incubis, and I don't think I'm ready for that, dude. You weren't ready for the moment? No, no, it was not.
Starting point is 00:37:37 And I don't know if I could do the lyrics. You got to memorize a lot. You know what I mean? You got to be on key. You're telling me. You got to be on beat. Imagine playing 50 songs a night without a teleprompter. And you don't even have flash cards.
Starting point is 00:37:50 I mean, what are you doing? No, yeah, it's not karaoke. I mean, you got to know your stuff. It takes a lot of practice. It does. We're playing, by the way, Saturday in Louisville at Mr. G's out on Shelbyville Road. Mr. G's. Yeah, Mr. G's lounge.
Starting point is 00:38:05 First time we've ever played there. So I've never been there before, but looking forward to it. Saturday at 10 o'clock. We still need some original music from Alice Bluegown, too, so we can get some music on the podcast. That's right. That's right. Yeah. Matt has mentioned, you know, we could go in and cover Werewolves of London.
Starting point is 00:38:21 And I think you could play that on the podcast even. I don't know how that works, but if he says it works, then let's do it. Let's get Cliff in there and start playing a baseline or something. This segment is brought to you by UK Federal Credit Union. The UK Federal Credit Union is the official credit union of the University of Kentucky. Their award-winning and the best places to work winner in the past. So serving the University of Kentucky for over 186 years by valuing education and community, from student to graduate, employees, and beyond.
Starting point is 00:38:53 UKFCU is here for you. here for life with two locations on UK's campus. Stop by today or go online to UKFCU.org to join member eligibility required, federally insured by NCUA. Dude, people are telling me George Washington was born in Virginia, so I don't know if I... So we got that wrong around the back. My text line were facts are right, but was it the United States when he was born, you know? Oh, well, I don't know. Was that the question first? Yeah, that was the question. You said American. You said American born. You didn't say you
Starting point is 00:39:25 United States, did you? I don't know. We'll have to review the tape. First President born in the U.S. is what I said. Okay. Well, I guess that's United States. Maybe technically correct, but we did want to put it out there, George Washington, on Washington's birthday, which this is originally celebrating for. He was born somewhere around here. 859-280-2287. Shannon, let's take a call. I've got some more topics. People on the line, who we got? Let's go to Marcia. Hey, Marcia. Hey, Marcia. Hi, y'all are doing a great job, doing a great job. I love the game. But I have a message for that little pipsqueak who criticized the Rupp Arena crowd of all the nurse. And they've done really good this year.
Starting point is 00:40:10 There have been many, many times the whole lower bow is standing, but people still want to talk about the blue hairs, which picks me off because it's like I'm 65. when do I have to give up my ticket? Because, you know, there's no age limit. If you love the catch, you love them until you die. But that little pit squeak, it'll be a cold day in H-E-E-W-L before we camp out for anything but our own team. I've camped out for like a week, two weeks to see my team.
Starting point is 00:40:45 It'd be a cold day in heck before our students are that excited. I mean, if it's a big team that we've never played, and the students might get there early, but camping out, how pathetic do they look? Yeah, they slept on the ground for three days to watch their team get their ass kicked. I thought that was great, yeah. And they never got closer than five points.
Starting point is 00:41:10 Yeah, I loved it. Marcia, I loved every minute of it. Good to hear from you. Yes, thank you, Marsha, so much. All right, bye-bye. Yeah, if you didn't hear it, she's referring, she called him the Pipsqueak. It was an Auburn student camping out, right? Yeah, that had the sign.
Starting point is 00:41:27 Yeah, they basically said that Rupp Arena was like a retirement home. Speaking of retirement homes, can we send Jay Williams to one? He's a little young, but he's had some really bad takes lately. What did he say? Kentucky is the Dallas Cowboys of College Basketball. He did say that. Caitlin Clark's not great because she hadn't won a national championship. That's ridiculous.
Starting point is 00:41:48 DJ Wagner's going to transfer to Louisville. Yep. He said, yeah, he's been on one. I don't know what's up with him. I always liked Jay, but man, he's had some really bad opinions, I think. I feel like sometimes you can tell when somebody's trying to garner that attention
Starting point is 00:42:04 through a hot take. You know what I mean? I don't know if he's... You know that that's going to be mostly negative, right? Sure. Sure. Yeah, absolutely. I mean, there's such a thing as being controversial and then just being moronic. Like some of the things that he said, has crossed into the Moronic part of the spectrum.
Starting point is 00:42:22 But yeah, I mean, I get to say she's not a great player. She doesn't want a championship. Yeah. And she drug Iowa to the championship last year and she might do it again. So I don't know. That seemed out of left field from him. Speaking of Moronic, the SEC released a graphic last night during the NBA All-Star game, celebrating all the players from the SEC that were in the NBA All-Star game.
Starting point is 00:42:44 That includes seven Kentucky players. And then one player from Georgia, Anthony Edwards. So it kind of looked a little silly when they were saying, hey, look at all the SEC talent. No, SEC. This is Kentucky talent. Yeah, all the Kentucky talent. And then that one Georgia player would be a lot more accurate.
Starting point is 00:43:00 But okay. Yeah, you can claim it. Sure. Yeah, yeah. Kentucky's got more than any of the conferences, if you want to look at it like that. But it was a showcase. There's no doubt.
Starting point is 00:43:08 We've got a couple minutes left. Let's get to this final caller. All right. Let's close it out with Bob and Jamestown. Bob and Jamestown. We'll give you your 30 seconds. What are you got? This is a little presidential comment.
Starting point is 00:43:20 I worked out on a railroad back when Ronald Reagan did his whistlestop tour, and it was something else. They pulled out Ferdinand Magellan armored railroad car out of a museum in Florida for him to ride in. All the switches were double-spiked. They had scuba divers under all river bridges. I mean, but Reagan absolutely loved it. The crew on the train said he was like a little flicked. I mean, he was this. Actually, one of my
Starting point is 00:43:52 lake neighbors was a secret service agent that guarded Reagan and said, you know, politics aside, he was really a nice guy. One of his, Reagan's, he loved that ranch out there. On weekends, a guy from the Pacific Gas and Electric donated
Starting point is 00:44:08 a bunch of utility poles. And Reagan loved to just build fences with those old power poles. There you go. All right. Yep. We're getting ready. We got to let you go. we're ending the show. We appreciate, though. Thank you for calling. There you go. Bob closed it out with some more presidential facts.
Starting point is 00:44:23 Was that English? I mean, my God. I didn't know where he was going with that. Well, we're done, Shannon. We did it. That's it. We got a cop day. All right. That's right. Let's go. We'll be enjoying our president's day in the middle of July. We'll see you tomorrow for the KSR pre-show. This has been Kentucky Sports Radio for Shannon the dude. I'm Billy Rutledge. We'll talk to you tomorrow. See you tomorrow. Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy. Not quite.
Starting point is 00:44:48 On Humor Me with Robert Smygel and Friends, me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes.
