but first, Ryan, join me in welcoming the Queen here. Haley J. How are you doing, Haley? I'm good. Look, I'll clap to the Bougeroist Badi herself on the radio. On the radio. You said you've done a lot of TV podcasts, but have you done live radio before this? No, never.

I've never heard the phrase you have a face for radio either. So I think I belong on TV, not back here. Well, we are glad to have you here. You know, we've been doing this. You have been, you were with OVW before me. Not as long as Shannon, but you've been. Shannon's been there forever. Shannon's been there for a lot of old.

You're not, so that's part of it. How were you when you started wrestling? How old was I? Yeah. Um, 20. 20. And you are what now? 25.

24. 24. So, you know, you talk in the documentary. You watched your mom wrestle growing up. Yep. But some of that was like a mixed bag for you. What made you decide you wanted to do it? Well, you know, I was out living the hood rat life, as we like to call it.

So some bad things happened there with Zaden and me. Somebody came in and robbed us and put a gun on us. And that was my point where I put the nail in the coffin. So somebody put a gun on you and robbed you? Yeah. And you said, what, I got to get out of this life? Yeah, well, mainly it was my son. I feel like if Zaden wasn't there, then I probably would have continued to do the dumb,

things that I was doing because I didn't have anyone else to look out for. But once the gun was put on my baby, who was only a year old, that was ridiculous. They like blew my mind. And I felt like a horrible parent. And then that's when I grew up a lot. I'm like, well, I shouldn't be putting myself or anyone else in these types of situations. So, yeah, I was like, what else can I do with my life? So you decided to do wrestling.

Now, I mean, you talk about this a little bit in the show. But when you were growing up, you know, wrestling took your mom away, some. Did you resent it back then? Yeah. Yeah. I feel like, well, first of all, I'm the reason my mom started wrestling. So when I was like eight or nine or something around that point, she took me to my first indie show and they, she was taking pictures. She was a photographer, but her friend and her husband ran the show. And I was like, oh my gosh, I didn't know this was a thing. So mom, you should wrestle. And then she was brave enough to get in there and start training. And then she struggled. And there was.

was a lot of bad wrestling. And then also just her, you know, being grown and keeping me away from certain things, I was kept away from a lot of the wrestling business, and I didn't appreciate that because here I am like a kid. You just think it's beautiful. Yeah. And then she's like, oh, no. You're staying home today.

And I'm like, wait, what? So, yeah, yes. And then also when I was a teenager, her being gone all the time, I think, helped us. So did you kind of raise yourself a little bit in those years? Well, yeah. Well, I have a brother who's two years older than me. So shout out to him because he's always looking out for me. But yeah, pretty much.

When my mom was in jail, we bounced around from different people, obviously. My most stable home was my grandparents. They're the best. But when you say bounced around, how many places do we talk? We went from my uncles, my grandparents, to my aunties, to my mom's friends. So probably like five or six different places. That's got to be quite a thing. So you decided to do it.

I'll talk in a little bit about when I met you and all that. But let's talk about what happened when this show occurred. Okay? Your life changed. Oh, yeah, definitely. What was, you know, even in a small level, I'd been in the public spotlight some. Al had. But I don't know that anybody's existence changed more like that than yours.

Yeah, definitely. What was that like? Well, for me, I mean, it was nice. It was humbling, I feel like, just because before I always said I was a superstar. No one's going to change my mind on that. Everyone's just catching up. But it was a lot of hate before, you know. It wasn't good things.

People didn't know my story. They didn't know me. So they're like, who is this girl, you know, acting a certain type of way? Like, who does she think she is? And then they watch the Netflix. They see the story. And they're like, oh, it all makes sense. Okay.

So. But I mean, all of us, what's it like to one day walk around and be normal? And then the next day, you got people writing you and people know Like, that's got to be crazy, isn't it? I mean, yeah, it is. I feel like, I'm telling you, though, I feel like I've always been a superstar. I always knew what was coming, so I was just waiting on that moment. You're waiting on everybody else to realize it?

Yeah, exactly. And I still haven't even, like, think that I've made it yet. You know what I mean? Like, I'm not done yet. This is just the beginning, so. Okay, so tell me what it was like for you. So I stayed up. Well, I tried to sleep.

And then it came out at like 5 in the morning. 3.30 in the morning. It was on Cali time. So midnight, Callie. So I got up and watched it and I watched almost all of it in a row. Oh, yeah. Did you? Yes, we did.

So what was it like sitting there watching yourself? I mean, because we had a year where we had no idea what was going to be on. Yeah, crazy. It was crazy. I think just because we had that year that we didn't know what was going to be on it, that is why everyone stayed up and like binge watched it because we're like, you know, oh, were we talking bad about this person or what did we say on camera? I'm curious, you know, I got to watch it.

But was there anything when you watched it that made you cringe and say, I wish I hadn't done that or said that? Oh, yeah, a lot of things actually. You know, me smoking on the premises was not the best look, but I had to do it, so I had to learn, you know. You've taken a lot of criticism from people who don't know you about the smoking stuff. What would you say to all that? Well, I mean, I have my medical conditions. Yes. Do you want to talk about that?

Yeah, sure. I have epilepsy. Let's bring some awareness to the table. See, I didn't know that. Yeah. And you didn't know I had it. Exactly. That's what I was about to say. Because for those who don't know, I did not like Matt Jones. Really?

Shocking from the documentary. Yeah. Yeah. So even we have fixed our situation before the Netflix thing came out. Obviously we had the conversation. But once that came out and I like, you know, seeing your struggle and we're the same, you know? And I'm just like,

Oh my God. I wouldn't wish that. It's so crazy because you and I for the first year argued a ton. Oh, yeah. Then it was better the second year. But you and I both had epilepsy and neither of us knew the other one had it. Because when I had the thing that was on film, I guess you never heard that. No.

So I found out you came up to me after it came out and said, I have that too. And it's so weird because that's something you and I could have totally. Because when you have it, it's impossible. to explain to people what it's like, isn't it? Yes, exactly. But you did a pretty good job, at least for me, because I've went through it, like, you know, explaining how looking at people's faces and like, it's the most horrible thing. I'm like, oh, my gosh, he gets it.

Because, man, that's the worst thing is not even the seizure itself, but like coming to and seeing. Everybody's so scared. Everyone else. Yeah, that's the worst feeling ever. It's hard to put into words because everybody feels sorry for you. Yeah. And you're okay.

Exactly. But it makes their look almost makes you worried. Like is something else wrong with me? You know what I mean? Exactly. Oh, yeah. Yes, I do. So, Net, you were very open about some stuff that happened to you, about your relationship with your mom.

What made you decide to say all that on camera? I just, I feel like people need to realize why I am the way I am. And I feel like everyone is the way they are because of their struggle or what they went through in life. So I just feel like, I was like, I don't know. I was just honest. I'm like, this is how people are going to realize that I'm just me. And I do not care what anyone says. I'm not going to change who I am.

I've already went through everything, you know, bad in my childhood. But that's why I have this mentality. That's why I'm being this successful, as you say, like early on in the business or whatever. It's because my mentality and everything that I've went through has built that. Do you – so when they came to me and when we talked about the show, they said, who do you suggest we follow? And I probably gave them 10 names, about half of which played a significant role in the show.

They had one or two they added that I didn't suggest. You were the first name I mentioned because I thought you were, I've always thought you were like, I say on the show, you have a star, well, you just have a star quality. Like you walk in and people have an opinion about it. Oh, yeah. It's a blessing and a curse. And you were, and in episode five with your mother.

I mean, the New York Times called the episode with your mother one of the 10 best episodes of television of the year. Yeah. I mean, think about that. The New York Times, Haley, has you on the picture that says 10 best episodes of TV. What was that like for you? That was crazy. There was a lot of people, you know, I don't, I'm not really big into like the news and everything. But there was a lot of people that were like, oh my gosh, like you're on New York Times.

That's crazy. Like, oh my gosh, you've done this. Oh, my gosh, you've done this. And then it starts clicking for me. I don't think it like registers until I don't know a thousand people say it. But you also had your relationship with your mom play out to a worldwide audience. Is that weird? Yeah, yeah.

I think they need to realize that we're still crazy. We still have our moments with each other. But how do you? People always ask me, how do you hit your mother? Oh, please. She's been hitting me for 22 years at that point. I was waiting to bust it open. So did you, was it therapeutic?

Oh yeah, definitely. I had a lot of built up anger towards her during that time especially. And I think it helped me let that loose because no, no one ever thinks that you get to hit your mom. And which we have wrestled previously and like, you know, done the deal, but never like thumbtacks or a chair and, you know, anything crazy like that. So I think it was therapeutic. It was. See, people hear that. I hope you know, Haley.

Like there's a lot of people listen to this that would go, that's insane. Crazy. Yeah. Like in wrestling, that seems normal once you're in it. But there's a lot of people listening who would go, it's therapeutic to hit your mom with a chair or thumb text. But it really seems like it was for you. You guys, it did something for me. And I think that was my way of forgiving her for everything.

Really? Yeah. Did you feel like there was you all? I mean, in the show. you all have a moment. Did you feel like there was a moment for you after? Like was that real? Yeah, see, the thing with that match was,

I wish that she would have beat me up more because I feel like that was the lesson I needed to learn was I'm going out being crazy. So my mom comes in and lays the law down. So like with the business within the match, I wasn't really happy. But as far as like the match itself, like what I did with her and what she was doing everything,

she was, it was good. Yeah. Now, you know, the scene with Matt, to me was the hardest scene to watch in the whole documentary. With the seizure? Yeah. Oh, yeah. Me too.

The scene with your mom was the second hardest. I mean, it was hard to watch. Really? And the thing is, though, when it's all over, there's a shot of your mom looking up in the mirror and she kind of smiles. She's crazy. It's crazy. It was almost like, I'm proud of her.

I'm proud of you. Yeah. You know, that whole scene, man, I'm telling you, it was hard to watch that whole scene. It was my son definitely. He was there alive when it was going on, and he did not enjoy that. So he didn't watch it back when it came out. Do you, I mean, your son is around some, not all the time, but some. Do you, like, you said that it was weird for you to be around.

What do you think about him being around? Well, we have more eyes on him than I would have had on me. Yeah, you do. All the wrestlers seem to love it. Everyone is always looking out for Zaden. So I know that if we went on a house show, somebody would be looking at him. I know he can run all over the Davis Arena.

Somebody's going to be looking at him. He's even made fans or fans, friends with the fans. Gracie loves Gracie. I know she's a superstar. She was a superstar. But yeah, he's, he's, I think it's fine. Now, if he wants to start wrestling. Would you not want him to do it?

Oh, I don't know. I would leave it up to him, but I don't know. You would discourage it? You know, there's football. There's basketball. like wrestling it's just like it's it's a tough business now if I pave the right way for him and you know I'm able to make that happen for him then of course we can do that you say that in the show I think it's a very like thoughtful line you say in my everyday life I'm just a person

but then when I walk through that curtain I'm a superstar yeah when you articulated that I feel like that is what makes the wrestlers do it exactly what you said again for people who don't understand that. Explain how it changes for you guys when you walk out in front of a current. Yeah, it just clicks. So for me, I don't really play like a quote-unquote character or whatever. I'm just me turned up to a thousand. So whatever stereotype you got, forget a, that's what I do. But as soon as I go through the curtain, like you said, it just clicks. Like there's something, I don't know. It's like a drug that you've never had before. And then also, I mean, I don't know. I can't explain it. I try to.

explain it to new wrestlers coming in. Like, I'm like, as soon as I can be telling them, oh, we're going to do this, you know, my tag partner, we're going to dance on the apron or whatever. As soon as I go through the curtain, like, Haley J's gone and Hollywood is in town and I don't hear or think or I don't know anything. It's just game time. I get a lot of people asking me about your on the show, your boyfriend, Eric. He does not come out, he doesn't come off always the best on it.

Right. People always ask me if you two are still together. We are not still together. Yeah, you hear that Andy? Yeah. Door's open for Andy. Shout up to Andy. Yeah, no, no, no, we're not together.

When you watched it, did you realize the sort of toxicity a little bit of it? Yes, and I think we knew that, you know, we were toxic before that we just had this trauma bond and we would not let each other go for whatever reason. But I think we both come to the conclusion that, you know, we're not good for each other and it would be. our best interest to take time apart and see what that does for us. Now, you're famously on the show say, I don't give a blank what Matt Jones has to say, which I thought, which when somebody put the captions on was hilarious. You know. But, you know, you and I, I feel like, have a significantly better relationship now.

Do you agree with that? And I hope you know the respect I have for you. I know why I think it got better, but why do you think it got better? Well, you don't try to lead me on the wrong things, for example, or something that he doesn't know about, like, wrestling, you know? When I first met him, he was, you know, I don't think you can say Hollywood. Gettles probably not the best way to go, like all these things. And I'm like, turn in my head, like, come on, man, that's just me.

But you didn't know that, obviously. And then, yeah, you're not, like, he's not there to bother anyone. He's always looking out for me. He's always text me and make sure I'm okay. You tell me you're proud of me. Like, he's a good dude, everyone. I know there's a lot of people listening that don't think so. Well, I hope if they're listening to this show, maybe they at least, you know, a little bit.

I don't know. But you do. You have grown up in the last three years. And you did. I made a mistake with you. Yeah. Like I came in when I first met and I was like I was trying to help. He was.

But I was, but it was, I was like, I do you want to talk like that? And then I was like, it's just who you are. Yeah, I can't help me. You know, and I was sitting there, I guess I was thinking you were playing a character. Yeah, exactly.

And I was trying to say to you, maybe that shouldn't be what you. And then I didn't realize that was just who you are. And it was very sort of rude of me, actually, to tell you to be a different person than you are. And it took me a while to realize that. I what you just heard for the last 20 minutes, that's who you are.

Right, right. And I don't think I realized that, to be honest. Yeah. Yeah. And now we know. Now we know. And I think then you were brand new as well. So we had that meeting and I was intimidated.

Mom couldn't be in there. I was just like, so it wasn't like I was going to be like, oh, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Yeah. Yeah, it's got to be tough. In hindsight, sitting there with me and Craig and like, it's got it. It was just a little intimidating. It was probably intimidating. Now I'm a superstar, and I was going to get a lot.

Well, all right, superstar. Tell everybody what you're doing Friday now. Oh, Friday, everyone. I'm going to be in Lexington, Kentucky, at the Manchester Music Hall. My money's on Linda Kay when it comes to Shannon. Cashflow hasn't ever felt my chops. So he always talks about his chops. He doesn't know about my chops. Wait until I get my hands on him. Isn't that a movie for like teenage girls? Uh, it was a movie pass. So it was essentially free. You know, just shoot out. I haven't been to that, but I thought that was even, I thought that was for like teenagers. But well, she does, she does, one question for you. She looks, she does look amazing in that one. But yesterday you mentioned eight dudes in a hot tub sounds like a movie name.

I appreciate it. That's enough of all that. Switching gears. UK baseball. Yeah. One yesterday. They were down five nothing going in the seventh, scored nine runs in the last. three innings. Drew Franklin was on TV cheering the whole time.

They kept the camera on him, Shannon. Every time UK made a run, they're now four and old. You know, they're starting to kind of get, they ranked in a couple of the polls. Like, I think they play in a tournament down in Round Rock where this hat that I like is outside of Austin. They're in a tournament there this weekend. But what about UK baseball starting to starting to play it. Yeah, they were down to go in the bottom of the 8th and Min Gion called a squeeze play bunt to tie the game. It gets Moorhead.

You mean, you've got to beat Moorhead in these non-conference games at home. I don't understand Shannon the college baseball. Because on the weekends like the best teams win. But then during the week, you get these crazy results where like teams lose to

Transylvania. Because usually you'll pitch your one or two, like your best pitchers on the weekends. Yeah. And then you have your midweek starters or usually maybe your fourth or fifth guy. But that leads to weird results, right? Where Moorhead was nearly beat. The other team will throw their ace to try to beat Kentucky. That's exactly right.

Welcome back. Tech Techie Sports Radio, 859, 280,000. They are meeting today, Ryan, for what will be a big future of college football. They're going to, the big 10 in the SEC are basically going to tell the other conferences how it's going to be this afternoon. Well, they kind of have the power. They do. You know? They did approve the five plus seven playoff.

So basically the four major conferences, winners will get in and then one of the other highest. Originally it was six plus six, but now the PAC 12's gone away. So now they're doing the five plus seven. And now I think you're going to, the SEC and the Big Ten are today coming with their proposal as to how they're going to split money and stuff. So it could be a big day in college football this afternoon. And will the playoff going affect next season? Starts next season.

Wow. So I think the first and second round is like the weekend before Christmas. The Elite 8, which are all bowl games, is on New Year's Eve. The semifinals are like January 9th. Then the finals will be like January 20. Spreads it out a little more. Spreads it out. The first round, though, Shannon, I like, the first round is at home sites.

That should be awesome. So like on December 20th where it could be snowing in places, the first round will be on. will be on college sites. I think that's exciting. How great would it be if Kentucky could somehow play themselves into the top 12, being the playoffs, they have a home game. I'll be honest. So I looked at, I went and looked at like the last, somebody did like the last 10 years of if the playoff had this format.

Yeah. Who would have made it? And in 20, what was it, 2019, 2018, the Josh Allen year here, we would have missed by one spot. Oh, he would have missed it. We would have been the last team out. But if you look through the years, Missouri would have made it one year. Indiana would have made it one year. So it is definitely Ryan possible that in a perfect situation, Kentucky could make it.

I think that's the next step for Kentucky. Yeah, get to a spot where you can make the playoffs. Just get, you know, now not to win the division, it's going to be hard. Get to the playoffs. Yeah. I think, do you think, let's make a lot of, a prediction. In the next decade, will they make the playoff one time? I think so.

Probably would require them to come in fourth in a 16-team SEC. Which is doable. I think that's doable for Kentucky to finish fourth in the SEC to maybe make the playoffs one time. Like I said, we were scrapped on the door. So you're going to say yes. I would say yes. Shannon, will they make it? We're going to a nine-game conference schedule. I don't want to be pessimistic. I want to say yes.

tonight or Arkansas or Vanderbilt. That would really just put us back. Let me ask you question, Joseph. I feel like you, I need you to have positivity. When you've started calling this show. You tended to be a beacon of hope. And in the last few months, like your call is, if we lose to Arkansas and Vandy, why are you having those negative thoughts? We just beat Auburn. Why would losing at home to Vandy even enter your mind? Well, because of what we've done before in our past, it just, it's hard to believe sometimes that we I mean, we haven't lost it home to a team like Vandy. I mean, now we have, we shouldn't have lost to Gonzaga.

We shouldn't have lost to Florida. But Florida is going to be a tournament team. Gonzaga's on the bubble. Vandy is awful. Yeah, you're right. I don't think we'll lose the Vayner bit. But Arkansas, I mean, it could happen. But that would be, it would put us in a hole.

But, you know, I hope they can win out. And I hope they can make a good run in March and maybe to the Final Four, a national championship. I do too. I appreciate the call. What's Kentucky's record going to be in the last six games? At Mississippi State,

at LSU, at Tennessee, home Vama, home Vandy, home Arkansas. I'm going to say four and two. I'm going to say five and one. I had five and two,

but I considered a loss to Auburn. And we just won that. So I'm going to say we beat LSU tonight. We beat Mississippi State. No, actually, we beat Tennessee, we lose to Mississippi State. Oh,

a win at Tennessee. I think a loss at Tennessee. I think we're going to win at Tennessee because I think we're going to go into that game and that game could have a huge impact. I mean, there's a world that game decides the SEC. Yeah. Now, I don't know that that's what will happen, but there's a world where that could happen.

And Shannon, if that happens, I feel like this group would go down there and win. We've had a lot of success in Knoxville recently. I mean, if they finished 5 and 1, I wouldn't be shocked. I would lean probably towards Ryan's record of 4 and 2. realistically, but I could see five and one being the last six games. Yeah. You got to win all the home games. You just got to. Well, the Alabama games. I think you got to win tonight.

Yeah. I think tonight is a tonight is a huge game where Kentucky has to go and it's like we've talked about in years past when you play, when you were a kid, you'd play 21 and then you had to hit a free throw to validate it or whatever. This is the free throw. You got to win.

But it's a very loseable game if you don't show up and play. Trey Mitchell's not playing. They beat Auburn with that. That's true. You know? Yeah. Actually, good news is there was no serious damage to his shoulder.

Bad news is he's still not playing tonight. Does he play by the SEC tournament? I think so. Okay. Yeah. Well, I mean, ultimately, isn't that what matters? Yeah. Do you see the story about the couple in Kentucky, Shannon,

that got married in a restroom in Verona? Come again? What? Married in a restroom. So a couple got married in a gas station restroom in Verona, Kentucky. I did not hear this. Why is it always got to be in Kentucky? And why a restroom? They didn't really, I read this story, and it didn't really have an explanation as to why they did.

It didn't say they met in a restroom or they, but they got married at a, I don't know, Walt and Verona. that exit, whatever that truck stop is. Why? Stay classy. Why? I don't know. But can, I mean, you hear a lot of crazy stories about where people decide to do things, but can you imagine getting married in a, I mean, gas station bathrooms are one of the

worst things that I can think of, right? There are a few things in life. There is nasty and gross and disgusting. A valor oil gas station. Do you know what that one is? Valero? Or, yeah, that's it. I bet it's Valero.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. So Valero, so apparently the Verona, Kentucky Valero. What? I mean, I'm just trying to get behind the psychology. Okay, so the Verona, Kentucky Valero has, restroom has gone viral on social media because they have a disco bathroom, complete with a disco ball and music. when the potty, when someone using the restroom hits a button on the wall.

So if you hit, they have a sign when you walk in that says, do not hit this button. If you do, the lights go out, a disco ball comes on and dancing queen plays. This couple, Logan and Tiana Abney, have always loved that gas station. And they decided to get married in the bathroom. Of course, when there's a button that says, do not hit this. Everybody's going to hit it first. first of all, did they go to that bathroom together?

How did they know? I don't know. My other thought is, like, isn't there always somebody's job to, like, hold the bride's dress from dragging on the ground? Did you imagine that dress dragging on the bathroom floor? Right? So apparently they did this and just put it on their Facebook. It ended up going viral.

They ended up getting a lot of haters. And Logan, the man, posted this on Facebook. In every haters' mouth, they love talking about us. They even think about us. A, we're famous. We were even on the radio. I love you, baby, Tiana. We're just making us stronger and more popular every time they open their mouth. We in it, we are important.

I heard about this bathroom. It kind of was getting famous, but I still don't understand the psychology of wanting to get married in this bathroom. They were even on the radio. You were on the radio. So this, wait a minute, that bathroom is a thing? Yeah. Yeah. Even I had seen that.

I didn't know where it was. There was some bathroom in Kentucky had the disco ball on the lights. So you're telling me it's at Verona, Valero. Well, now would you be more likely to stop at the Valero? I guess Rob's stopping on the way back to Lexington. Well, that's up in northern Kentucky, right? Walton Verona.

It's between Cincinnati and Lexington. I know that exit. You pass it every time I go to the Reds. So the Valero at the Verona has a disco ball restaurant. I've got to install one of those in my house. It's actually probably pretty smart for that gas station, though, right? But what about the other people, though?

The lights go out. You can't see what you're doing. Yeah, you're sitting and all of a sudden dancing queen is playing. So they got married there. Congratulations to Logan and Tiana. I hope they have a wonderful marriage. You know, the couple that gets married in a bathroom together stays together. That's right.

Now the only games left are Alabama twice and Mississippi State. But they host Alabama the second time. So Florida could somehow win this game,

they would have a legit chance at winning the SEC as odd as that sounds. If Alabama wins this game, they become the prohibitive favorite to win the SEC. So like, this is a big game tonight. Alabama's an eight and a half point favorite. Who you got? And you got to think the Alabama's probably looking at the game

at Kentucky on Saturday. Maybe they might overlook Florida a little bit. But they're hosting them. And Alabama's really good at home. Yeah. Eight and a half. Gosh, that's a lot of points. I'm taking Bama and the points.

Taking the point, right? Eight and a half? I probably would too if I had to bet on. I'm not going to bet on this one. I'm going to, I think this game's going to be really close, but I'm taking Alabama into points just because they can score so many at the end

to kind of pull away. Yeah. So I'm going to take Alabama, but I think this is a sneaky game. Yeah, it could be a really good game. This is a sneaky game if Florida wins. Because I don't think anyone thinks Florida can win the SEC. But if they won tonight,
