Welcome to Hour 2 of Kentucky Sports Radio
presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Now here's Matt Jones.
Welcome back. Hour number two here
on Kentucky Sports Radio, 859-280-2287.
Matt Jones and Ryan Lemon.
Sitting here and enjoying a nice day.
A little cloudy outside. Trivia tonight, Ryan.
Now I've got to finish the questions.
I got a little behind.
I'm going to do that this afternoon
and then come in here and make everybody aware of difficult questions.
Well, I just want to put everybody else on notice.
I'm bringing the ultimate dream team tonight.
Who do you have?
I got a couple ringers I'm bringing in.
They're like ringers.
Who?
I don't really know them.
Patrick and Tracy.
They're friends with yoga boys, yoga girls, brother.
You have a yoga boy?
Yeah, he goes by yoga boy, yoga girl, yoga boy.
Yoga girl and a yoga boy.
Yeah.
Things have been, you've been expanding your horizons.
Yeah, well, I can't get a whole of hubby, so I had to go to plan B.
Okay.
Well, maybe his phone's not working.
Have you thought about that?
Maybe that's what it is.
Well, uh, root bear stand Robert can't make it, so I had to, I had to adjust.
So you brought in yoga boy.
Yoga boy.
And he's got ringers.
Right.
Well, uh, well, good luck on your team.
Did you make a reservation?
I did with crutch last night.
I'm good.
Yeah, I don't want you to not have a seat.
We have, I just think, a couple tables left.
So if you want to come, make sure you get a reservation or get here early.
I want to go over a couple things here.
Shannon, it came out.
Joe Biden's dog bit a secret service agent 24 times.
Okay, that's a 23 times too many.
You get one by.
I said last night, I said after the first one, you got to keep that dog away from people.
First of all, what is wrong with this dog?
It's hungry.
Got issues.
I mean, I know nothing about dogs, but I feel like 24 is a lot.
I mean, I feel like you've got to.
Yes.
They said it that.
This was apparently in the Secret Service year-in report.
So, like, the dog's already gone.
But in one year, Shannon, that was 24 in a year.
Yeah, like, at what point were they going to draw the line?
Like, you get 24 bites for free, but the 25th, you're out of here.
Like, I mean, they were clearly just dealing with it.
So what's wrong with, okay, I'm not a dog person.
So what is wrong with a dog that bites someone 24 times?
Or do we have to start looking at the Secret Service?
See, that's what I'm going to say.
At some point, Shannon, is it the agent?
Or the owner.
I mean, they're the ones who trained it to be that.
You think Biden trained the dog to bite the Secret Service?
Probably so.
I like the people who don't like Biden both think he's an idiot and a devious mastermind.
They think he's both of those things.
But go back what you were going to say, because I don't know anything about dogs.
have a sense where they, especially like German Shepherd and certain breeds of dogs,
where they can sense if somebody's...
So you think maybe there was like a Russian agent in our Secret Service and he could smell it?
I'm saying, yeah, maybe we need to come in the dogs instead of kicking him out to the farm.
So you think there was, you know, I like that thought.
Shannon thinks, or Shannon, I think Ryan thinks a dog might know something we don't.
Yep.
And the dog is sitting there going, I've been trying to tell you all for a long time about this.
I think Ryan's giving the dog way too much credit.
I think the dog just wants to bite, just doing dog things.
But do dogs, like, again, I'm not a dog person.
Are there dogs that just like to bite?
There are dogs that are definitely aggressive,
especially if you come around their owner, their protector.
It's like if you had a dog and some stranger came in towards you,
the dog would get between you and the stranger a lot of times.
Okay.
Yeah.
And bite 24 times.
That's a little excessive, I think, unless he's a Russian spy.
And then he's a patriotic dog who's just doing his dog.
We might find out, Shannon.
and this was a dog that knew more than us.
It was an advanced dog.
Maybe.
Or it's just a crazy dog that needs to not be near people.
I would be in a bite suit.
I'm going to lean towards the ladder that this dog is just crazy and needs to go.
So what did they do with the dog?
I don't know.
I think it got sent to Delaware.
But I don't think it's.
But I would think his house in Delaware has secret service agents there too.
Probably does too.
So it's probably like.
So he doesn't bite all the secret service agents.
Just this one guy.
Here's the thing.
What can you do with a dog that bites 24 times?
You can't give it away, Shannon, because nobody wants it, right?
Nobody wants a dog that'll bite you 24 times.
Bite it back.
That's the only thing I can think of.
I'm being dead serious.
Let's say I had a dog, and it just kept biting people.
What do I do with it?
Do you have to put it down?
Sometimes I think you do, or if you can't find it like somebody out in the country at the farm
where there's not going to be people around and let it roam around the farm all day.
Maybe a wolf.
Yeah.
but maybe it would just bite those people.
Well, I think they don't want to,
they don't bite their masters,
they're who their person is.
Oh, is that right?
So the dogs just bite other people.
So then why does the dog have a handler?
Why not Joe Biden just handle the dog?
I think he's got things to do,
or at least take the house.
But the dogs come to him?
They're in the public address,
you know,
state of the union address.
There's the dog.
I don't feel like, though,
you can have the dog go wherever the president goes.
Like, what if he's in a big meeting
and he's sitting there standing next to another president?
You can't just have the dog attack that thing.
That's right.
Yeah.
I don't know.
Again, I don't know anything about dogs.
So somebody that does may tell me, but I just feel like at some point, that's a lot of bite.
It is.
You can put a muzzle on it.
I mean, I don't know why they wouldn't do that.
You could do that?
Yeah.
Okay.
Well, maybe that's what they need to do.
The Reds, did you see that Ellie De La Cruz hit a foul ball that broke Hunter Green's windshield?
They had a spring training?
It's spring training.
Hunter Green's windshield had a baseball go through it from a foul ball from Ellie Dela Cruz.
And they are having today in Arizona kangaroo court to decide does Ellie have to pay for the windshield.
Now, it was a foul ball.
I think this is all good nature.
Ellie argues Hunter parked it too close to the state.
They know.
And Hunter says, I parked it where I parked it.
you're the one that hit the ball through my window, you pay.
So let's just say, again, I think they're good and they're not angry at each other.
These are maybe the Red's two best players, or at least the two most exciting.
Are you ruling for the guy who parked the car who got the ball hit through his window?
Or you room for Ellie saying if you don't want your car to be hit, don't park it so close to the stadium?
Shannon, I'll go first.
I consider myself somewhat of a legal scholar.
Okay.
So I'm going to refer to a court case that happened here in Lexington.
Griffin Gate Golf Course.
A guy tried to sue the golf course because he kept getting his windows broken on the golf course.
Is this a true story?
Very true story.
And he came to court with a big bucket full of golf balls.
He picked up out of his yard, through his window.
The judge here in Lexington said, look, dude, you bought that house on a golf course.
You knew this was a possibility.
I think where Hunter Green parked it, he, I think,
obviously parked it close to the ballpark.
He knew that was a possibility.
I rule he has to pay his own windshield.
All right, Shannon.
I don't know if I like that argument or not, though.
If I parked my car in public, it could get punched by somebody.
I mean, there's always, like, the chance that's something like that could happen.
I'm voting against Dela Cruz.
Oh, so you're saying he's the way.
I disagree with Ryan, yeah.
Split decision.
You've got to settle it.
I think he broke it.
I'm ruling against, I'm ruling for Daila Cruz.
You love Taylor Cruz.
I do no wrong.
I do love Taylor Cruz.
I like Taylor Cruz.
I like Hunter Green too.
But my thing, okay, I know what you're saying, Shannon.
But I think the term would be in the regular course of action, right?
So if you're parking down on Main Street and two kids play baseball and hit a ball through your window,
they're not supposed to be playing baseball down there.
Correct.
But if you're in a ballpark and you.
know you're in a ballpark, then you have, you have an assumption of risk by parking it there,
that you wouldn't have somewhere else that you have next to a ballpark that you might get hit
with a foul ball. So I would say to Hunter Green, plus you make more money so you can pay for
the windshield. But I'm ruling for Dela Cruz in a two one split decision. Where is he supposed to
park then? I mean, I'm sure they would have had a place for him where it wouldn't have got me.
They did. It was the parking lot where the ball hit.
He needs to park a little farther or one.
I just, you got to know if you park next to a stadium, you might get hit with a ball.
And I'm going to say that's not Hunter Green's first trip he's driven to a ballpark.
Yes.
You know you don't park over the outfield fence. You just don't.
You can park way back behind it.
The other thing is, Ellie did nothing wrong.
He just hit a foul ball.
He just hit a ball.
And like.
Straighten it out.
He did something wrong.
It makes it different if it's fair or foul.
Why are you hitting foul balls in spring training?
Okay.
Shannon brings up a good argument.
Did Hunter Green park it where like 500 feet where he's like nobody can ever hit this ball this far?
But Ellie's so good he hit it that far.
Maybe, but he clearly hit it so it's on you.
You have to have the Ellie rules with how you do it.
So that's what I take.
Court is ruled.
We have been ruling two.
two to one. Who's up next? Zerxes. Zerxes. How are you? Zerxes. Dejected, my friend, dejected.
Last night, it felt like a loss in March madness, and I think Cal should save that tape
to show these guys in March. If you don't box out, you're going home, just like that. It ruined
my evening. I was going to do a take on here, eight bros in the hot tub last night, Matt.
My wife and I were all prepared to sip champagne from the hot tub,
and it just ruined it.
We wanted no parts of it.
I went to bed.
She stayed and listened to the postgame show, and that was it.
Yeah, I understand.
Listen, there is a video, and I appreciate the call.
Stephen Peek took of our table, and you see me, I do a little dance, Shannon.
You should look at it.
I do a little dance.
You'll be very impressed with my moves when Dillingham hits the shot.
And I remember thinking.
this is going to be an awesome post-game show.
Everybody's going to be excited.
And then just dejection 12 seconds later.
I saw it, and you can see, this place would have gone crazy.
It would have exploded.
And in that amount of time, though, went from that to everybody.
It just deflated.
Everybody got out.
Scooted out of here.
Well, let's talk about what the loss means for the season.
I mean, it's going to be difficult to get a double by now in the SEC tournament.
Not impossible but difficult.
I think we are, our chances to get a top four seed are all but gone.
Yes.
And now we're kind of at the mercy of the bracket.
And as of today, the most likely seed is a sixth seed, Ryan,
which would have us playing at 9.30 on Thursday and 9.30 on Friday.
The worst possible situation you want to be in at the SEC tournament.
You can't have a worst.
situation than having two nine-thirty games yeah and then have to come back if you if you survive
come back to saturday and play at two o'clock after you don't leave the arena until one or two in
the morning well they got an early flight chaninanin they can't do media that night that's for sure
it'll be an early game the next day but that's that's awful awful awful awful you know the only
thing we can hope is if south carolina collapses that's really the only hope that we have but even
then they have a tiebreaker that's right with us had we won last where's what's crazy this is how
punched up the SEC is. If we had won last night, we had a real shot to win the SEC.
Yeah, you laid it out in the pregame show. The narrative was there.
But now that we've lost, we very likely will be the sixth seed.
Playing on Thursday. At 9.30 at 9. Ever.
Second time. Second time ever played on Thursday? Second time ever played on Thursday.
A tournament we used to own. It was a Kentucky Invitational every year.
Who's up next, Shannon? Mike. Mike. How are you, Mike?
I'm doing great.
Yeah, this is Mike from Louisville.
Just a couple of quick points.
Thanks for letting me join Conspiracy Thursday.
A lot of stuff going on with that today.
But the most ironic thing about Jay Williams' comments last night is he was calling that game from Pete Marevich Stadium.
Yep.
And Pete Mervish never won a championship, so he's not a great player.
There are many stadiums after him.
That's a great point.
That's a very, I mean, exactly.
Oh, well, just look at Kentucky history.
I appreciate the call.
Who do we always say we're the best players to ever play here?
Well, everybody always says Dan Isle's number one.
He didn't win a title.
He didn't win a title.
You know?
Yeah.
Then people will say a lot.
Most people will tell you your top five in some order are Dan Isle, Anthony Davis,
Jamal, Mashburn, Jack Givens, and Kenny Walker.
Wouldn't you agree that that tends to be the five?
Uh-huh.
All right.
Kenny Walker didn't win a title.
Nope.
Jamal Mashburn didn't win a title.
Nope.
Anthony Davis and Jack Givens did.
Yeah.
But those other three, are they not great players?
Like when I'm sitting here going, who are the greatest players in UK history?
Can I only pick the people that won titles?
No.
That can't be right, right?
Like, that can't be how it works.
No.
When I'm ranking the best players in Cal history,
do I have to say second is Michael Kidd Gilchrist and third is, you know,
Terrence Jones because they won a title?
I mean, you just, I just don't buy that.
It's a ridiculous argument.
and I'm glad he's getting a lot of pushback on it because he deserves it.
Yeah.
Having to take like that.
ServePro.
You know, if you have fire or water damage or need some kind of cleanup, maybe somebody
hits a ball through your windshield.
There you go.
What are you going to do?
Well, I don't know if that's who you call.
You probably call A Vision Auto Class.
But if they hit your ball through your water pipe, go to servepro.

ServePro, when the sound of water's coming, they'll come in, clean it up, make it like it never

It's ServePro.

Franchises are independently operated at ServePro.
Got some folks here eating the cheese logs.
That's a good way to start the morning.
Good nutritious, like, light meal to get you going.
We'll take a break and be right back.
This is Kentucky Sports Radio.
To talk to Matt Jones and the crew, call the Clark's Puppets Shop phone line at 859-280-2-87
or 1-800-606.
You can also text Matt on the A-Vision Glass text machine
at 772-7-7-4-5-254.
What about 24-bit times bitten?
Are you twice shy then?
That's way too many.
Way too many.
One person writes, Matt, you may not believe this,
but I'm a longtime dog owner.
And my dog could tell people that were going to do me harm.
If he bit the same person 24 times,
I'd be looking into that person.
I agree.
So does that make a difference to you, Shan?
if he bit the same guy 24 times or if it was 24 different ones or if it was 24 times the same person
it depends like is it the same guy handling the dog every day you know or is it still same thing
or is it like you know there's other people also handling the dog but he only bites that guy
then i might be looking into him then you start getting really worried yeah right i think so now he
do you believe this by the way do you believe that dogs can sniff out bad people i well they're just
so protective if they feel someone's coming in on their
territory they want to protect their person like you remember bailey you loved my dog bailey i think
you called him coo joe well first of all i never have loved any but yes uh he there were twice
where like we had a handyman guy at the house who just was walking towards her and he went and kind
of pinched him in the butt you know a little bit like hey stay away you know and so did you find
out something was wrong with that handyman no no but uh i think that's what it was he was just
trying to protect people.
One person writes,
Matt Larry Bird took an undefeated Indiana State team to the championship game.
Is he trying to say he's not a great player?
That's the first person I brought up in our argument we were talking about.
Yeah, I mean, that would be stupid.
Yeah.
Now, somebody's text me and said that Jay Wins was saying,
last night he says, I'm like,
I'm not saying she's a great player.
She's just not the greatest of all time because she's not won a championship.
Well, okay, that's a different argument.
That's not what he said the first time.
Yeah.
The first time he said she's not amongst the greats.
That's what he said the first time.
But, you know, what I would say is Jay Williams was a great college player.
Like everybody, they forget it because of his pro thing.
Yeah.
But he was a great college player.
But he ain't winning those titles unless Dunle, Voozer, Dante Jones, Batier were on the team.
He was on a loaded team.
You know, so if he was playing at Wake Forest, do you think he wins those titles?
No, of course not.
So some of that is good fortune, right, of who you end up on the team with.
I just don't understand, like we talked about, why women's college basketball is not embracing this girl,
and because she is bringing more exposure to the women's game than anything has happened in a long, long time.
All right, what do you think about the fact Rick Petino apologized?
Rick Petino came out last night and said, you know what?
Probably shouldn't have said all that stuff.
What do you think about that?
I'm actually glad he did it.
I think it needed to be done.
But he had already doubled down once.
Yeah.
I think that it read to me like somebody at St.
John's like, dude, that's enough.
Yeah.
We brought you in here to get us good publicity,
and now you're leading off every national show
talking about how we stink and your players stink.
He finally said, Shannon, what I said,
which was you're the one that brought these dudes in.
Yeah.
You finally acknowledge we were the guys that, you know,
it's on us.
Yeah, it's clear that somebody said, hey, you need to stop talking and walk this back
because it could affect recruiting moving forward.
What's crazy?
Season's not over, Shannon.
Yeah.
Well, yeah, you're losing your players.
Yeah, you're losing your team.
How do you play for that guy?
I mean, they're like 14 and 11.
Like, the season's not over for them.
They could go on a run.
They were in the hunt for a tournament bid at one point.
And he acted like the season was already over with these comments.
So I'm glad he showed a little humility.
and apologize.
Even if he was forced to, I'm glad he did it.
Yeah.
I would never use the word humility with Rick.
Good point.
But he at least acknowledged his apology.
How down does the loss last night make you feel about the rest of the season?
I have gone from the highs of the high after beating Auburn.
Now I'm back down to the lows of the low.
I mean, just like that.
Within a matter a couple days, this team has.
Aren't we back, though, to where we've been the whole?
time, which is it all comes down to March.
All comes down to March.
This team's built for March.
I hope so.
You can't get too low with this team, right?
You got to stay right in the middle.
Yes, but I think it's very important the first part of what you said.
This is my, okay, people, there are going to be people that don't like this.
I don't care.
John Caliperi, if you're going to get up and peacock around when you beat Auburn,
Why don't we wait till the season's over before we start walking around like we've done something?
Can we do that?
If we beat Alabama Saturday, can we say this is awesome we won and stop with the,
oh, y'all, I'm the worst coach in the world.
Y'all came to, like it was one game.
Yeah.
And then we immediately went and lost to a worst team.
Like, I'm fine with talking trash.
I like when Cal talks trash.
But don't talk trash when you're 18 and 8, right?
Like talk trash.
If we go to the final four, talk, yo, whatever, as the kids would say.
Say whatever you want.
But can we just like hold off rubbing it in people's face when we're six and six,
Shannon, in the last 12 games?
Yeah, that almost tells me he thinks that he's got to get it in while he can
because he's not confident that he's going to be able to say those things in March.
And then if you're going to do all those things, the next game when you lose,
do not take two questions and go, I got to catch a plank.
Right?
You got to bring that same energy regardless.
Bring, yes, there you go.
Bring the same energy.
Like bring the same energy no matter what because, you know, it's a bad look.
Cal was never a sore loser ever in his career until like the last year or two.
Yeah.
And that he's never been like that before.
And like I said before, I want my coach to be mad and upset and come to the press conference.
He said after the game he was proud of the team.
On the post game show, he said, I'm proud of them.
They fought back.
I wanted to be like, dude, we were up 15.
He blew a 15 point lead in the second half.
You know, we're up 15.
He said we lost because of 50-50 balls.
I heard that.
I heard him say that.
And I thought there were a lot of times where I saw Reed diving on the floor
trying to get loose balls.
Who's next, Shannon?
Let's go to Drew.
Drew, 40 seconds.
Go ahead.
All right, quick.
Two things.
Solar flare wouldn't impact everybody.
up the Carrington event. If you're interested in that whole thing, back in 1850, it would
wreck the country and the world if it ever happened a big thing. Two dogs actually do smell
pheromone changes so they can react to like somebody getting angry or a bad person in general,
you know, looking to hurt somebody. Third, with cow not doing the press conference, I'm with you guys.
I wish that he would take equal amounts of questions after wins and losses. It just shows humility,
which, I mean, it can be humble and brag at the same time. I know it's an oxymoron.
thing. Just a quick question. With the team now looking at the record, we play like 14 quad
three and four games and most people are playing eight or nine. Do you think that kind of
T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay. Now more of Kentucky
Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. Big shout out to whoever made this
T-shirt for me. It's got my face on it and it's got me looking like a electrician. And it says
Matt Jones for all your smoke alarm needs.
Very clever, I think.
That was a very well done shirt.
Who needs a skyline jacket when you got that?
That's exactly right.
That's a very well done shirt.
Thank you to whoever did that.
Yeah, Monique and I were talking we don't know where it came from.
It just ended up in her office.
Yeah, I appreciate it.
That's very, very cool.
I'm not going to wear it tonight for the trivia.
Otherwise, I'll wear it out on someday.
One person writes, Matt, I'm fine with criticism.
cow for all the gloating, but why don't you do it for the football team? Because they taught more
trash and do less than anyone. Well, if you believe that, you might remember a sentence I said once
when I said they had the most undeserved arrogance last year. Do you remember that theme I used a lot of
the year saying this coaching staff and team talks the most trash for going, way too much trash
for going 75? You remember that line of thought that I have? I remember it very well. I mean,
The reality is I think I'm pretty consistent in saying, I like when people talk trash,
but you've got to back it up.
If you're going to talk trash at Auburn, can't go lose at LSU, right?
You just can't.
We had a guy calling last night and he goes, it was how he ended the show.
And he was like, you know, Matt, I don't know how people think Kentucky can win if we don't have, you know,
Cal wants a practice facility, doesn't get a practice facility.
And Shannon, my head almost exploded.
I was like, I feel like our practice facility.
facility is better in St. Peter's.
Yeah, they did all right.
I feel like our practice facility is probably better than UNC Wilmington.
I'd say so.
You know, the practice facility thing is, I'm not saying we do or don't need a practice
facility.
I would say we probably in the law, like in the medium term, do need one because the
others might be a little better.
But we got seven dudes who at some point have been projected in the NBA draft.
Do you genuinely not think we have enough talent?
You genuinely think the practice facility.
Like, are you just saying something to say something?
Or do you really think the practice facility isn't good enough?
Come on.
Like, how many more good players do we need?
We got an All-American on the team.
We got a top five pick.
We got a lottery pick.
We got one of the highest rated foreign players in college basketball who can't even stay on the court.
We had a guy in Aaron Bradshaw who at one point was the number one ranked recruit in a class.
We have DJ Wagner was a top five recruit.
Justin Edwards was a top 10 recruit.
Like what else do you need?
Practice facility only helps you in recruiting when kids are comparing the facilities.
But that's not our problem.
Not the problem.
You just mentioned five, seven guys that could probably play in the NBA with the current practice facility that we have while they were being recruited.
Another person writes, Matt, I'm fine with Cal-Ther.
cock and trash. Look at all the hate he gets.
It's not hate.
Of course, some people are hateful.
But in general, it's just disappointment at playing poorly.
I don't have the book, but I'm sure he'll put it out if we lose.
And by the way, I don't think people should put this out on social media until the season's over.
But Shannon, Stephen Peek pulled out Cal's book that he wrote last night.
these are his words from his book a few years ago.
Would you like to know what it said?
Yeah.
You still there?
Like are you probably there?
I think you're on a major delay.
You need to reset your connection.
All right.
How about now?
Is that better?
Yeah, now we're good.
Okay, we're back.
But did you hear me say that he had a thing, right?
Yes.
Yeah.
Okay.
So here's what he said in his book.
He said, I took over for Kentucky after a very down time for the program.
they had only won two tournaments in four years,
two NCAA tournament games in four years,
and hadn't won the SEC.
That's unacceptable at Kentucky.
Those were his words.
Uh-huh.
Now he's living that reality.
Now he's telling, insinuating we all should calm down,
and if he wins one game in the tournament this year,
he will have the exact same record.
as the exact same thing that he said in his book was unacceptable at Kentucky.
I just want you to notice that.
Because that, those are, so when people act like Matt Jones or KSR, the standard is unreasonable, that is his standard.
Yeah.
He put it.
He downgraded Billy, which is fine because Billy deserved to be downgraded.
but Billy and the last two years of Tubby,
and he will have to win at least one NCAA tournament game
to even do as well as they did.
Just to match that.
I'm telling you, and we've talked about this a lot,
there's going to be so much pressure on that team that opening weekend.
Part of the reason we have to go to the first and second round of the tournament
is they're the most important games in like a long time for Kentucky basketball.
Well, that's second round game.
Oh, my goodness.
Artie, Shannon, gives me anxiety.
Me too.
Just thinking about it.
Assuming we win the first one.
Because his entire legacy, as good as it was to start with.
It's all going to come down to that game.
It may come down to that weekend.
It's all going to come down to that game.
They're going to play somebody.
You stop dropping, you know, going into six.
You're playing 11s.
Elevens are a team that could very well beat you.
Well, we talked about this on the show yet last night.
Okay.
So you look at the 11 seats.
a couple of them are teams we wouldn't play.
But basically it was like Seton Hall.
So imagine we start the tournament with Seton Hall.
With St. Peter's old coach as their coach.
Shannon has St. Peter's old coach.
We start with Setonall.
And then in that next round, if we won, there's Duke.
There's Duke probably a team just like that.
Can you imagine what that game would be like, Shannon, Kentucky and Duke,
in the second round with all that's at stake?
Yeah.
In Spokane, Washington.
It is hard to imagine what that would be like.
That's exactly what the scenario this team is looking at.
And they have nobody to blame it themselves.
Exactly.
They shouldn't have to play those games.
They should be a two-seed playing, you know, Norfolk State
and then playing somebody like Seton Hall in the second round.
Instead, you're going to get Seton Hall and then someone like Duke in the round after that.
Who's next?
Brett.
Brett, what's up, Brent?
Hey, Matt, thanks for taking my call.
A long time, first time.
Pua.
Hey, I got a couple of things.
First thing is, you know, I think all season long,
we've continued to get off the slow starts in games.
Last night was no different, I mean, minus the Auburn game.
And I can't figure out why he refuses to start Shepard
and Dillingham at this point because, you know,
there's no reason not to.
And then the last thing, and I'll hang up and listen to your,
comment, he's basically turned into the Donald Trump of college basketball, in my opinion.
When everything goes good, it's because of him.
And when it goes bad, it's somebody else's fault.
Well, first of all, I appreciate the call.
You know, I'm not getting into the Trump stuff, Shannon, because I want to have a good afternoon.
Although my phone doesn't work, so this would be a good day to do it because I will have no idea what people are saying.
But here's my analogy.
to Trump with Cal.
I think even the biggest Donald Trump supporter,
and I'm sure there's a lot of you listening,
there might be some of you in this bar.
I'm sure even the biggest one
has gotten to a point where they're like,
they don't even listen to what he says.
You know what I mean?
Yeah.
They're just kind of like,
eh, he's just being him.
Donald being Donald.
I think that's how people are with Cal too.
Yeah.
Cal being.
I mean, I just think people have stopped listening to him.
right like it's just like and like again to make the analogy i'm not like this anymore because i've
kind of tuned out but i don't trump used to drive me crazy i'd be like this dude is saying nonsense
and yet it doesn't matter and then i realized it really doesn't even matter what he says
like it just people are it just is what it is right i don't think kales is nonsense
sense, but I can't really believe what he says.
Yeah. Can you? No. So like, I'm to the point that it almost doesn't even matter what he says.
I'm just like, just tell me what happens in March.
Is that? Am I wrong about that? Like, Shannon, it doesn't almost in the, none of this really
matters. It's just going to be what happens in March is his future. I mean, yeah, he can say anything.
Right now he's in a no-win situation, I feel like that people, nobody wants to hear.
hear what he has to say anyway, right?
But they don't want to hear what he has to say because we can't believe anything, really.
Yeah.
And for Kentucky fans, when we were winning, they'd let a lot of that stuff slide, you know, because where they were winning.
I think it was charming.
What's funny is, it's charming for a while.
Uh-huh, for a while.
And when you're winning.
Well, as you're winning, yeah.
But when you're losing, it's not his charming.
Then it starts rubbing people the wrong way pretty quickly.
Similarly, again, to use the Trump analogy, if you like him,
all his craziness is charming to people.
Yeah.
But if you don't, you drive you crazy.
Yeah.
So when he was winning, he's charming.
When he's losing, we're like, dude, stop, please.
You know?
And if we win in March, it won't matter.
No.
If we win in March, everything will be fine.
Cowell still got it.
And if we lose in March, Shannon, there won't be one, thank you all, appreciate it.
There won't be one thing he'll say that anyone would want to.
want to hear anyone. No. Right. So now the question is, how far do they have to get for fans to be
satisfied? Well, I've said this on a couple different platforms, but this is the way I look at it.
If he makes the Final Four, nobody can be upset. Like, you just have to say, well, we're where we
want to be. If he makes the Elite 8, I think you just go, what in the year we loved, but I'll take it.
Yeah. Right. If he loses in the first round,
it's over.
If he loses in the second round, it's over for most people.
The difficult part would be like the Sweet 16.
That's it.
That would be the one where whatever position you have now, you'd probably keep it.
That's right.
And that's what I feel like is most likely to happen.
And I am worried that's what it's going to be.
Of course, it's going to be.
The Sweet 16 gets you to a point where the advocates can say, look,
you're not happy with the Sweet 16.
and the detractors can go,
we had more talent than be a Sweet 16.
A Sweet 16 is how we spend all summer fighting.
That's exactly right.
That's what's going to happen.
I feel like an elite eight, no fights.
First or second round.
Not many fights.
Sweet 16, Shannon.
It's Biden Trump part three, right?
Like we're right back to where we were before.
We go into summer with a divided fan base.
That's exactly right.
I think that's what we're looking.
Nobody wins if they end up in a sweet 16 situation.
Because nobody has the argument that is like the winning argument.
And we're right back to where we were.
Which means you've got to win three in a row, and this team hasn't done that since, what, January, December?
Yeah, I don't do this.
For this team to win six games in a row and win the title.
But can they win three in a row?
Like Shannon said, they've won three in a row since December.
I think they can win three in a row.
We'll see.
Thank you, folks, 859-280-2287.
Hey, a Masterson Station, Clark's Pumpin Shop, has a new location on Lucille Drive.
What?
Where?
Where?
Where?
Where?
Who's going to walk there next week?
Wow.
Tell me more about this new.
Clarks Caffee.
They got Hanger 54 pizza and perfectly Cajent.
Clark's Pumpin Shop serves the freshest coffee, and there's one on Lucille Drive.
I passed it the other day.
I almost took a picture to make sure you still knew it was there.
Still there.
And you earned five soon.
per gallon with the Clark's Pump and Shop app on every fill-up.
It's Clark's Pump and Shop, return, refresh, refuel.
We'll take a break.
Be right back.
This is KS.
To talk to Matt Jones and the crew, call the Clark's Pump and Shop phone line at 859-2802-287 or
1-800-606-4263 and send us the Kentucky brandit tweet of the day by tweeting Matt at KYSports
Radio.
Welcome back to Tegu Sports Radio.
I just got a breaking news alert I would like to read you.
Shannon, so give me some breaking news.
It's a breaking news alert I just got on my phone.
Taylor Swift and Travis Kelsey have arrived at the Sydney Zoo in Australia arm in arm.
I'm glad your phone gets that.
Mine doesn't.
My phone will not make calls and that came up as a notification.
I think we obviously know your algorithm is what you've been looking at.
I don't have that on mine.
You didn't get that one?
I didn't get it either.
Well, I did get it.
I didn't want it, but I got it.
Draft Kings, promo code is KSR.
$1,000, no-sweb bet.
If you get it done, check them out this weekend.
You're in college basketball, NBA, whatever, up to $1,000 on a bet.
If you don't win, you'll get it back, and it'll be exciting.
Let's pick a game.
For Draft Kings, we ought to pick a game tonight.
There are no great games, so just pick a number one through 35.
I always pick 11.
11.
Here we go.
Two, four, six, eight, ten.
Here we go.
Big one.
Yeah.
Hampton.
Hampton.
Is that Campbell?
Oh, boy.
The Campbell camels.
The Hampton hamps.
You know, I was almost named Hampton?
Your middle name or your first name?
First name.
Really?
I was like my great grandfather's name.
They almost named me Hampton.
I don't know anybody named Hampton.
Well, you almost did.
Wow.
You think I would have had the same, KSR.
off Shannon if it's Hampton Jones no it'd be interesting let's see an old Hampton
HHJ what do you think you think a Hampton would work Hampton in his nose whistle
well anyway Campbell is an eight and a half point favorite at home to Hampton who you got
I like the Campbell camels at home eight points is a lot of points though but I feel like
you know they've had some good games they've had some bad games they've been hot they've
been cold tonight they're going to win all right what you got well Hampton's on the
road but they do have their own hotel chain so they'll be staying at
Hampton in, so I think they're having a good night
Ross and they're going to win this game.
Yeah, I mean, I was almost named Hampton.
So how can I not take Hampton to cover the eight and a half?
You guys are both going Hampton?
I'm going Hampton to cover.
That's right.
So we got, we're split.
You're either riding with Team Hamp or Team Campbell.
I'm on quite the heater.
I lost probably seven bets last night between the Alabama, Florida game
and the Kentucky LSU game.
I'm glad you're doing well.
One person writes, Matt, you drive.
me crazy to hear fans of UK criticize Cal.
Again, we got to stop telling people what it means to be a fan and not.
Like, part of being a fan is you can say this isn't acceptable.
Fan doesn't just mean you always say things are great.
If you, I mean, if you believe, that's certainly how you can be a fan.
But like, some people, you know, some people have a different view.
Like some people are frustrated.
And I don't think it's unreasonable to be frustrated.
The coach himself said in his book that what has happened in the last few years is unacceptable.
He wasn't talking about himself, though.
He was talking about the coach before.
That's what makes this fan base so special is that we do care.
We are very passionate.
We do want our team to succeed so bad that that's what makes – that's why people want to play here.
That's what makes this fan base best in the country.
What person writes, Matt, you are more upset.
with Cal Perry than you are Trump.
Correct.
Because that's my job.
And you're a fan.
Yeah, I mean, it's my job.
My job is to come on this show and two hours a day talk about Kentucky sports,
75% of which is probably UK basketball.
Of course, of course, I'm, you know, I mean, of course I'm obsessed about it's my job.
That would be like me going to a plumber and saying,
And Channing, you're obsessed with plumbing.
Like, you better be obsessed with plumbing.
It's your job.
Yeah.
And I'm not mistaken, this is basketball season.
It's mid to late February.
Yeah.
Like, it's a big deal.
Huge deal.
Who's next?
Let's go to Jeff in Lexington.
Jeff, go ahead, Jeff.
Hey, man, I know you're about to run out of time here,
so I've got to get through this real quick today.
I'm a pretty regular caller to the program.
I'll listen to the website mostly, but I am.
somewhat of a right go ahead what do you got let's go we just got two minutes here's what
here's a lot of here's a lot of got for you matt because we're we're on the same page
politically we're from the 606 we love the same music uh so much about us man we could be twins
if you will okay but you know what there are three things that i hate about matt jones if
you'll indulge me here number one why are you always given ryan lemon such a hard time
over his music i don't understand that matt give him a break he likes darius rucker
Okay, what's your second and third?
You know we don't have a lot of time.
Go ahead.
Pickleball, Matt.
Why do you hate pickleball?
You've never played it.
Why don't you, don't knock something to you try it?
And third, Matt, I know he's annoying as hell, but why do you just like Bob and Jamestown so much?
I think all of those questions are self-explanatory.
I give Ryan a hard time because his music is terrible.
I don't like pickleball because it's awful.
And Bob and James Town, I think it's self-exploitory, Shannon.
Although I don't dislike Bob and James Town.
Did you let Bob come on the postgame show last night?
He didn't call last night.
He didn't call last night.
