Starting point is 00:00:00 Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and Friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter.
Starting point is 00:00:23 Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and Friends on the I-Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where SportsSlice comes in. I'm Timbo, and every episode we're cutting through the noise, breaking down the biggest moments in sports and giving you the real story behind the headline. And we're going straight to the source, the athletes themselves, their locker room stories, their reactions in the moment, and the stuff nobody gets to hear. Listen to Sports Slice on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:01:00 And for more, follow Timbo Slica Life 12 in the TikTok podcast network on TikTok. I'm Michelle McPhee, and I've been unraveling the strangest criminal alliance I've ever reported on. A Mormon polygamist and an Armenian businessman. Multi-million dollar house, Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets, a billion dollar fraud. But how long can this alliance last? Tell me what you know. Is somebody coming after me? Listen to Kingdom of Fraud on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

Welcome back, hour number two of Kentucky Sports Radio, here live at Lee's famous recipe in Danville, Kentucky.
Starting point is 00:02:43 Danville, you can give me a little better round noise there. Welcome back. There we go. All right. They brought us some food here at Lees. This is great stuff. The fried fish. I forgot how much I liked their potato wedges and the biscuits.
Starting point is 00:02:56 chicken livers, everything you'd want, right? I am tearing into the chicken livers. I love them here. They're really good. Their chicken is honey dipped and hand-bredded. How about that? Delicious. Yeah, whatever seasoning or batter that they put on the chicken and fish is amazing. I love it. Definitely good.
Starting point is 00:03:14 All right, 859-28027. Couple things. First of all, everyone is deserting me tomorrow. Drew is at a wedding. Sorry, I had to get my... Drew is at a wedding. Ryan is at 13 on 13 on a pocky or whatever it is. Seven on seven football.
Starting point is 00:03:34 So I have to get a new co-host for the pregame show. So our special fill-in co-host for the pregame show tomorrow is Vince Mero. Vince Mero said he wants to come on and show people his basketball knowledge. So Vince Mero is going to host the KSR pregame show with me tomorrow from KS Bar. So if you are out there, you can meet him. He said he'll meet the fans, but he was like, we don't even have to talk football. I got it. I got everything you need to know about this basketball team.
Starting point is 00:04:04 So we'll see what he has to say tomorrow. We'll see what Big Dog knows about Alabama basketball. Well, he claims to have not only known basketball was a really good basketball player. Well, we'll find out tomorrow. We'll see how much show prep you think he's going to do for tomorrow. Absolutely. Here's the question. Will he get there on time for the show to start?
Starting point is 00:04:23 So here's a little secret. Don't tell him this. The show starts at 1.30. I told him it started at 1. There you go. Smart move. Yeah. I felt like if I told him it started at 1, he'd be there by 115.
Starting point is 00:04:37 And then we'd be okay. So he will be the, he'll be filling in tomorrow, so I'm looking forward to that. Well, you know, every time Vince is on, it's very entertaining. So I advise everyone to tune in tomorrow because, you know, who knows what he's going to say. All right, a couple of non-UK basketball things. Did you see Shannon, the. what's happening right now with Major League Baseball and their new uniforms. Yes, I have seen this.
Starting point is 00:05:01 So they have new uniforms, the new company that's making them fanatics, and they've tried to make them, it reminds me of an episode of Seinfeld like 30 years ago. They've tried to make them lighter and like more aerodynamic for the players. But the problem is to do that, they found like this really thin fabric. but because it's so thin, they can't put really nice lettering on the back because it made it too heavy. So it actually looks like Kmart jerseys. No, it does. You know how when you get a nice jersey, part of it is how the lettering looks.
Starting point is 00:05:41 This looks cheap. It looks sewed on. So the players have been complaining about the jerseys. But then when it became time to play, they put on their pants. You know, the new, because they'd been wearing shorts, so they didn't have them on. When they put on their pants, they realize the material is so thin, you can see through them. Don't wear a red underwear. And so, well, the players are like, I can't go play baseball.
Starting point is 00:06:08 Everybody can see my stuff, and they don't like that. And so now baseball, the games start tomorrow. Yeah. The games start tomorrow, and they are scrambling. some of the teams have had to go to local, like, athletic stores and buy old, like, little league pants because they cannot wear the pants because they are too thin and show their doodads. This is embarrassing for Major League Baseball, right? How do they not have this figured out by now?
Starting point is 00:06:38 And now they're going to have to come up with a solution quickly and turn out a lot of acceptable jerseys for the players that they'll take, right? The jerseys are really cheap-looking. Like, I mean, that was the thing about baseball is the one thing it had going for it a lot was their jerseys were cool. Yeah. Look like these look literally like a T-shirt. See-through pants might help the ratings a little bit. Baseball ratings are down. You know, somebody in the Major League Baseball office had to approve this look, and surely to goodness, somebody at some point had to put these on.
Starting point is 00:07:11 I don't think they realized it. So there's that. Then second, UK baseball is playing this week. They're playing in a tournament down in Austin, Texas, against three good teams, like three really good teams. They have a chance, this will be a chance, Ryan, to see if the UK baseball team, which is 4-0 to start the season, if they're for real, they play three power teams over the next three days. You know, we kind of talked a little bit about UK baseball. They've got this transfer in who's going to be maybe a first-round draft pick as a pitcher. And Mason Moore, who was their great closer last year, moves into the number two-star spot.
Starting point is 00:07:44 They're expecting to have a really good season this year, so maybe you should, you know, go check them out. You already said you're going to jump on board. Yes. I wish I could watch them this weekend. I actually have some time, but it's on like some web. It's on a website that I don't know about. So it's hard to watch the games this weekend. But every other game will be on the SEC network app after this weekend. You know, we complain about the non-conference schedule and basketball. And baseball, I think it's totally fine if you play a weak non-conference schedule just because of so difficult in the SEC. The SEC is the best, top to bottom.
Starting point is 00:08:14 That's right. We'll see. I also have something for you to watch if you're in, if you, if you have nothing to do tonight, it's a rabbit hole you can go down. Have you heard about this woman in Atlanta who's been posting videos called Who T.F. Did I marry? Have you heard about this? This is on TikTok, right? It's on TikTok. Yeah. So there are 50 different videos, each of them 10 minutes, so it's a little long.
Starting point is 00:08:41 I wouldn't suggest watching all of them. But the gist of it is this woman married a man who basically lied to her about everything about him, said he was an executive at like, you know, at a, I think he said a retail manufacturer. It turned out he worked like he was like worked in an auto shop. It said he didn't have kids. He did. Signed her loan or name on all these loans. And basically she realized that he had frauded her out of money.
Starting point is 00:09:13 She didn't even know his real name. He used a fake Social Security number. And she tells these stories. And the way she tells them is so, like, matter of fact, that, like, she's become a star, and it's called, and you wait, somebody's going to buy the movie rights for her story. You wait and see. It's called, who TF did I marry?
Starting point is 00:09:36 You can find it now, not just on TikTok. You can find it online. Shannon, it is, I'm telling you, when you start, I didn't watch all 50, but you will watch a bunch of them. I've heard a lot about it. Now, I'm going to have to at least start it and watch it. But, you know, this is why I would suggest to anybody date somebody for at least 10 years before you marry them. That way, you really know who they are.
Starting point is 00:09:56 You don't want to just marry somebody that says they're an auto mechanic or says that there's something else. They're actually an auto mechanic. And they lied to you the whole time. So I think that's really important. Well, this is a Dateline episode. I mean, you're right. It's going to be a movie or some point because it's crazy. But I want to know, like, she goes through it and she says, I would try to go.
Starting point is 00:10:13 go to his work parties, and then he would say they were canceled five minutes before. Like, there were all these red flags that I guess love, Shannon. You know, you're in love all the time. I guess love will make you look past all these red flags. How bold can you be? Like, you know, it's one thing to get away with a little white lie. But to lie about not having kids, to lie about where you work, to lie about your name. She doesn't even know his name.
Starting point is 00:10:38 He literally used a different name, and she bought it. He had like fake marriage certificates. The only way she found out is she went to get a loan and he put a fake social security number on the loan and they pulled it up and they were like, this isn't a real person. Oh, my. Can you imagine going down that rabbit hole as the threat is unraveling and you're finding out thing after thing that he's been lying to you about all these years? That is insane. It is insane to me. He had like another, he like lived.
Starting point is 00:11:09 He said he had a mansion and he lived with his. mom. Wait a minute. That may be on her now. How do you not know that? I agree with you. At some point you go, can I see the mansion? Yeah, go visit your mom.
Starting point is 00:11:23 At least one time. All right, who's up next? Got Mike up next. Mike, go ahead, Mike. Mike, I feel a little bit. Mike, anytime you're ready. All right, well, we'll have to go.
Starting point is 00:11:39 Just put him back on hold, Rick, and see. Maybe he'll join us later. Who's next? Got Mark. Mark, go ahead, Mark. Hey, what's going on, Matt? What's up? Hey, real quick, you made some great points in regards to lineups and analysis on lineup.
Starting point is 00:11:56 Now, I'm going to look at it a little differently. Maybe it's because I'm looking at it as a basketball coach. What's the defensive metrics on those lineups? Because honestly, we're good enough offensively. It's defensively. It's defensive. Well, when I said when I was talking about their rankings, the lineups, it was plus minus, so it was offense and defense.
Starting point is 00:12:18 I'll give you an example. Our six best lineups, our six best lineups all have Reed Shepard in them, all right? Seven of our worst eight lineups all have one player in them. I'm not going to throw the kid under the bus. You can look it up. But it all has one player. Now, that's not on some level of coincidence. Like on some level that has some, you know, Mark, I mean,
Starting point is 00:12:44 On some level, the numbers are what they are. Right. One other thing, real quick. I'm going to give you a microcosm of what I think our problems are right now on that last possession. We get a block shot. One of our players is actually trying to leak out, even when the ball, the most important thing is there is to get the ball. One of our players is leaking out for a fast. No, he did.
Starting point is 00:13:08 That's the reason why we don't. No, Dillingham made a huge mistake there. Now, I don't know if he would have gotten the ball, but he's right about this. Dillingham, rather than getting the ball, is trying to leak out for a layup when you don't need any points. That was a mistake. There's no doubt. But it's hard for me to get on him when if it wasn't for him, we'd have lost by 15. But we wouldn't have been in that situation if he wasn't so bad at the first half, though.
Starting point is 00:13:32 He was terrible. Yeah, but that, listen, you live and die by Dillingham. My view, though, is I'm not going to get mad at Rob Dillingham or Antonio Reeves when we have. only had 74 points and they had 48 of them, right? Like, what about the rest of the guys? Where's everybody else? On some level, I can't get mad at those two dudes. And if I want to hammer it's your favorite player real quick, I'm going to give you an example.
Starting point is 00:13:56 I kind of look at a little different than most people probably. Antonio Reeves has to know how the game's being called in the second half. I think two or three of his foul, he gets called for holding the guy coming off the screen. After the first one, you got to. But let me ask you a question, Mark. What is your, I'm being dead honest about this. You've watched this team all year. There is no doubt that our most consistent good player has been Antonio Reeves.
Starting point is 00:14:23 And there is no doubt that we have no chance of beating LSU without Rob Dillingham in the second half. Why is it that fans who are trying to take up for Cal, which is totally fine, want to rag on the two guys that kept us in that game. What about everybody else? Like, why is it? I mean, Antonio Reeves. Antonio Reeves has played eight road games this year and has scored at least 15 points in every single game.
Starting point is 00:14:54 Every single game. Like, how can you not just look? And he is an Illinois state transfer. How can you not just look at him and go, dude, you've given us everything we could have ever. hoped. What about these other things? Yeah. He's actually giving us more than what. But it's a big, it's a, it's a whole lot of things going on with it. Again, we needed him on the floor. The reason he only scored four
Starting point is 00:15:18 points in the second hand, he wasn't on the floor. He is a fifth year. Well, first of all, you got to realize that. Yeah, I appreciate the call, but he also, Ryan, he had three fouls, but he played him like he had four. He didn't come back in the game until five and a half minutes to go, right? I would have said, we're losing. Rollie, That's the thing. I don't mind when they took him out when he picked up his third foul, but he just set too long. But that was at the 13 minute mark, right? Like that was at the, then they put him back in at the 10 minute mark, took him out at 8.01, and he was out on five straight possessions where we didn't score. I didn't understand that either. Yeah, that run right there were nine possessions in a row. They did not score a bucket. That's when you got to have him out there. I mean, you can't have him sitting over there. And on that last play, the bigger concern for me, I'm not concerned about losing on a last.
Starting point is 00:16:06 second shot. It's given a 15-point lead up to a team like LSU. That's the bigger. The last shot to me was lucky. That was a heck of a play for that guy to save the ball. To me, that's lucky, but the 15-point lead. Shouldn't have been in that situation to begin with. Here's my quick case for why you need to play Reeves, Dillingham, and Shepard together. Those, if when you play those three guys, a defense has a decision to make. Who am I going to put my best defender on? All right? If I put it on Reeves, then Dillingham's got a chance to eat up whoever else is left, and Shepard's playing against your third best player. If I put him on Dillingham, the best shooter in the country,
Starting point is 00:16:47 if he gets open, it's in, and Shepard is going to get the third best defender. Now, let's say you put one of them on the bench. You can take your third best defender and put them on Wagner or put them on Edwards, and if they're not shooting well, they can double team. I mean, Wagner was left wide open during that LSU game, and he just shot brick after brick after brick. If that's Reed Shepard, they cannot leave him wide open, and Ryan, it gives the other dudes more space. Yeah, we talked about that yesterday.
Starting point is 00:17:15 Wagner had those wide open looks, and we all said he's got to hit those. If he's going to get that shot, he's got to knock that down. We scored 13 points in the last three minutes. And you know who was in? Reeve Shepard and doing him. Like, to me, that's the lineup. And if you're looking for your perfect match, it may just be a new car from Don Frankert's family of dealerships,
Starting point is 00:17:37 the largest inventory of new, used, and certified pre-owned vehicles, whether it's a heated steering wheel. Do you like those? Oh, those are nice. Are you taking your thumbs out of the steering wheel, by the way, now? I caught myself the other day seeing where my thumbs were when I'm holding the steering wheel. My mom said she's scared to put her thumbs in the steering wheel. After hearing that, I am too. Yeah, but again, you're not at Daytona.
Starting point is 00:17:56 You're on New Circle Road. But whether it's lane assist or more, go to Don Franklin Auto.com for all the vehicles you need at Don Franklin Auto. We'll take a break and be right back here at Lee's Famous Recipes. Welcome back, Tucky Sports Radio, here live at Lee's Famous Recipe. For those of you all there at Lee's, make sure you get some lunch before you get out of here. Try the wedges, fried fish, chicken tenders, and more.
Starting point is 00:18:23 I always like the folks that when we do the shows here who come in just regularly to eat and then they're like, who are these people that are just standing up and talking. I always enjoy that. Like, that was you folks. You just came in here to eat, didn't you? And then you hear us. I'm sorry. Oh, you're enjoying it.
Starting point is 00:18:39 Okay, well, thank you very much. I always like when that happens. I just don't know. I don't know why I just thought that after we forgot. This is Tyler Thompson country down here. Of course, yeah. Tyler's from here. We've had a couple of riders from here over the years.
Starting point is 00:18:53 859-280-2287. All right, so I'm actually going to lead off the next segment playing that little clip from the ESPN radio. People ask me, I decided to wait. What I don't want to wait about is tonight you're fighting at Manchester Music Hall and you're looking buff, getting ready. You know what? I'm eating least famous recipe. Cash flow is not going to have that on his side. So I'm balking up. It's like Popeye eating his spinach when I eat this fried fish right here. So I'm going to kick some butt tonight. We still have a handful of tickets left. We've sold a bunch in the last two days. So go to Manchester Music Hall.com. Be watching on social media. I'm going to have a
Starting point is 00:19:31 Rick's got his computer on there. I'm going to have a... He's buying tickets. Is he? I'm going to have a couple giveaways a little bit later today as well. But we should have a great night. Haley will be there. But more importantly, Ryan, Shannon is going to take a cash flow chop.
Starting point is 00:19:49 You've never had one, have you? No, I'm not going to take a cash flow chop. What are you talking about? You're going to have a big handprint right here on your chest. Cash flow is too unathletic. He's too big. He's too fat. He can't catch me.
Starting point is 00:20:01 All right? Yeah, he's big. He's a big boy. He's going to catch me. This is not going to end well. It is not going to end well. I can see it coming. He's going to catch me first, big boy. Linda Kay is going to catch you. Oh, please. So that is tonight.
Starting point is 00:20:15 Starts at 7.30. Buy your tickets at Manchester Music Hall.com. Who's up next? Got Mike back on the line. Mike, okay. Go ahead. Hey, Matt. So Lee's famous recipe two years ago when I turned 40,
Starting point is 00:20:29 my wife wanted to know where. I wanted to go eat, and I said, let's go to Lees. So I love it. That's pretty good. I like that. 40th and 40th birthday, Lee's famous recipe. Yeah, spicy strips, mashed potatoes, green beans, tobacco all over it. Can't beat it.
Starting point is 00:20:47 Sounds good, actually. What do you think the over-under is on the minutes Hugo is going to play? Because you know he's going to play him. He's going to play him all the time because he thinks it's a tough game for him. Yeah, it is. It's a tough game for him just because of size, so I'll put over under at like 19 maybe. And I might even take the under. I think if there's a game for Bradshaw to get back on track,
Starting point is 00:21:15 I actually think tomorrow is that game because this is the kind of team they need him for. He's just more mobile than Hugo. I totally agree with you. Yeah, Ugo is just not a threat offensively. And in this game, you want the most offensive threats out there. And that's why I really think he'll give Bradson. show a run and Big Zia run to see if they can do anything. I also just don't know who Ugo can guard on that team.
Starting point is 00:21:37 I mean, all their guys step out and you get Hugo outside the pain. I mean, his help is around the rim. So if you have him out having to guard guys at the three point line, I don't know how well that's going to work. If you don't have Mitchell, Bradshaw's got to be the guy. I mean, and Big Z, I don't know. Like, you can put him out there for offense, but he can't guard anybody. Like, he gives, he's such a defensive liability.
Starting point is 00:21:58 I feel, I am, there's no player on the team that. has surprised, I appreciate to call, Mike, that has surprised me more in his struggles than Bradshaw. I thought Bradshaw was going to be really good. I mean, I know Edwards has struggled, but he's actually been better in the last few weeks. And he started, but Bradshaw's had one good game, and that was the Florida game. I mean, he really has been surprised. This was a dude. At one point, Aaron Bradshaw was the number one player in America. And like, it's just he hasn't looked like that at all. And if we're going to be totally honest, he had a good five minutes at the Florida game. He was not good the first 35 minutes of that game. That's true.
Starting point is 00:22:40 Played really well the last five minutes of one game. That's been it. I'm glad you mentioned Justin Edwards. I mean, my man hit three, hit three threes the other night. He's shooting the ball better. He's been a lot better defensively. Yeah. The thing that I always thought he was going to be able to do, he's gotten a lot better at that. And you're right, he hit three three three against LSU. So I just, I'm, I'm, I'm babble. Byckle by Bradshaw. He just, when he looks, when he's out there, it looks like he doesn't know what to do. And I, that kid was the number one kid in America for a little while.
Starting point is 00:23:14 Yeah, I did get a Trey Mitchell update just a minute ago. He's still really sore, but it's going to be a game time decision tonight. So they've not ruled him out. He would be nice to have. He would be nice to have Saturday. Who's next? Got Tristan up next. Tristan.
Starting point is 00:23:27 Go ahead, Tristan. Good morning, gentlemen. Good morning. So the first thing, I've got two things I like to share. First is that I was at the Governor Scholars Programming Center back in the mid-2000s, and we had a pretty massive water battle between our floor of our dorm and the floor above us. You know, they always preach about community, and so we thought it was a good community action, but the directors there disagreed.
Starting point is 00:23:51 And they had a pretty big sigh off there for a couple of days, thinking that the RAs were going to go home. They were braiding them around. It was kind of a mess. And then turns out that was all fake. So, you know, that kind of instilling a penalty is a thing in government scholars. Well, they did it with us, that's for sure. The other thing I had is that, you know, Jay Williams as an announcer, so, you know, he seems to be a hot take machine, and that's fine.
Starting point is 00:24:16 You know, I disagree with the things that he says. But as far as being a basketball analyst, I thought he was really good. And if we could never listen to Jay Billis ever again, that'd be great. All right, so that's an interesting question. I appreciate it, Tristan. Jay Billis. Appreciate the call. Jay Billis or Jay Williams? Who you got? Jay Billis. I'm taking Billis. Jay Billis all the way.
Starting point is 00:24:35 Let me do this. Raise your hand. How many Jay Billis? How many Jay Williams? Nobody. I think Tristan was on his own there. Pretty much every single person picked Billis. Williams was a lot Saturday. A lot. This week, or Wednesday, whatever day it was. We will take a break. Games at CBS, we got Ian Eagle here Saturday. I love Ian. Eagle and Bill Rattory. We'll take a break. Be right back. This is Kentucky Sports Radio. Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio.
Starting point is 00:25:00 Big shout out to the, is that a fireman? Fireman, the dad light, that's a heck of a mustache. I mean, that's top 10 mustache in Kentucky right there. We had a guy at Trivia who played baseball at Midway yesterday, and he had like the 21-year-old version of that. He would grow up once to be you with that mustache. He had one close. Isn't it a requirement now if you work at a fire department,
Starting point is 00:25:24 you have to have one of those mustaches? I had an ex-girlfriend who just said she was like, I would never leave you except for a fireman. And so I'm always skeptical of you all. You have that effect on the women. I want to play you all something. This was this morning on the ESPN radio show, unsportsman-like, which has, what is it, Michelle Smallman, Evan Cohen and Chris Canty. I don't think Canty's on. But basically Kentucky basketball was a topic today for about seven minutes.
Starting point is 00:26:00 And the reason I'm playing this, you're not going to hear anything in this that's new. But I do want you to listen and hear kind of how the national media is looking at us. Because now's the time after the Super Bowl, they start focusing on college basketball. Here was the conversation that occurred this morning about Kentucky. But there has been a Kentucky versus Dallas Cowboys debate back in. Bristol. Yes, you heard me right. Kentucky Wildcats versus Dallas Cowboys that the three of them have been on, and it stems from, I believe, Jay Williams and Matt Jones. Can you guys explain what's happening? Because Smalls and I are not in on this conversation here. So the other, this past Saturday during
Starting point is 00:26:42 college game day, Jay said that the Kentucky is the, are the Cowboys of College basketball. Every year, we're going to hype them up because they have all these draft picks. Every year, we're going to talk about Cal. Cal is one of the best to do it. But he's, Is he on the same level as Bill South? People like Matt Jones and the rest of Kentucky Nation, just up in arms. Like, we've won titles. Don't compare us to Kentucky.
Starting point is 00:27:06 It's also ironic that they lost. Yeah, to the Cowboys. Excuse me. It's also ironic that Jay was on. It ramped up this week because Jay was on the call during the Kentucky LSU game, which Kentucky lost. So, and that's what we were talking about. And Pat throughout that the comp for Kentucky is actually the Steelers.
Starting point is 00:27:23 They've won one in recent memory, but that's it. So I have had this debate going on in my brain for a long time about John Caliperi in Kentucky. And shout out to Matt Jones, K.Y. Sports Radio on Twitter. And you hear him with Myron Metcalf over the weekends. Matt has a crazy following, insane following of all kinds of people in and around Kentucky and is a phenomenal host all across the country. He's great. And I don't know what John Kavanaugh.
Starting point is 00:27:53 Calipari's job is. And when I say that, I'm asking, is it your job as a college basketball coach in the case of John Calipari? Is it your job to create millionaires or to win games? Now, John Calipari absolutely brings student athletes to Kentucky where they are great players go on to the NBA and make millions upon millions of dollars. If you were to build an all Kentucky NBA team, they may win a championship every single year. That's how good the players that come out of Kentucky are. He's great at collecting talent. And he's also great at advancing them to that next level.
Starting point is 00:28:34 But it doesn't come with a title every single year. It's come with one singular title. So if you're a college program, what would, and you're fans of a college program, what would your goal be? Would you want to win as much as possible in college? Or would you want the people that went to your college, played for your school to advance and become super,
Starting point is 00:28:53 stars at that next level. What? Is that really a question? That is my question. What is his job? I want them to win while I'm in college. If they go on past playing for my school and have success at the professional level, God bless you.
Starting point is 00:29:08 I will, I'll be so happy to cheer for you. But I want you cutting down nets and putting banners in my school's arena. Okay, so based on the talent that he's had, which is includes, but is not limited to Devin Booker, Bam Out of Bio, De Aaron Fox, Anthony Davis, Jamal Murray.
Starting point is 00:29:24 I mean, it's insane, right? The talent that he has currently in the league, based on the talent that he's had, and what you just said the job is, John Caliperi has not done his job. I'm asking, is that how you feel? Tyrese Maxie, Emmanuel quickly, Malik Monk.
Starting point is 00:29:41 There's tons of talent that have gone through that program, obviously. And yeah, based on some of the names and the people he has. You see, stop working right before the conclusion. It just stopped on me right here. I didn't touch anything. You got to love modern technology.
Starting point is 00:30:11 You got to love it, Rick. So you're telling me it just stopped. Yeah, I didn't, I wasn't near it. All right, well. What was the conclusion? Well, the conclusion was they both said, I'll have to read you the end of the book, they both said if your goal is to win titles
Starting point is 00:30:30 and to cut, put up banners, that they think John Cal Perry has not done what he should have done in the last 15 years at Kentucky. That was their conclusion. I did think it was interesting that Evan Cohen was like, are you supposed to put people into pros or win titles? And Michelle Smolman was like, win titles. What are you talking about? How is that a question?
Starting point is 00:30:51 But it does go to show. I think it's interesting sometimes to hear perspectives. The college basketball analysts are never, in my opinion, Ryan, unbiased, in the sense of they don't criticize other college coaches. Just think about when you watch TV. They never, Jay Bill is Seth Green, they never criticize the coaches ever because they're all friends. I think it's interesting when you get people that aren't in college basketball.
Starting point is 00:31:17 Now, granted, they don't know as much about it as the people, but they are more unbiased. And this show, if the conclusion had worked, would have said the conclusion is that he hasn't done what he's supposed to do. Do you agree or disagree? And Rick, will you try to get it to work again? Can you do that? Rick!
Starting point is 00:31:39 I'm sorry, I was on the phone with the calling. Okay, can we try to get the thing to work again? Can you do that to pick it up? Yeah, let me try here. Okay, thank you, Rick. Whenever you're ready. Go ahead, Chinne. No, I totally agree with the, what was the lady's name on the show there?
Starting point is 00:31:54 Michelle. Yeah, I totally agree with her. You could ask any of these fans here, what do you want? Do you want national titles or guys in the NBA? We don't care about them going. into the NBA. I know it's great. It changes their life. Helps it recruiting. Absolutely. But your goal is a college basketball coach or a coach of any team is ultimately to win titles. And with all the talent that he's had, one title is inexcusable.
Starting point is 00:32:17 I think. All right. Well, let's pick. Let's see if we can pick up where you left off. Go ahead. John Caliperi is not done his job. I'm asking, is that how you feel? Tyrese Maxie, Emmanuel quickly, Malik Monk. There's, there's tons of talent that have gone through that program, obviously. And, yeah, based on some of the names and the people he has been able to recruit to go there, the amount of times that they've won, I would bet Kentucky basketball fans would say it hasn't been enough. It has not resulted in enough success on the basketball court, right? See, to me, they feel more like the Packers.
Starting point is 00:32:56 There is nobody like the Packers at the quarterback position. Nobody. You cannot find anyone in the NFL that has had the level of success, the Green Bay Packers have now had, if we include Jordan Love at a lesser level, obviously, three times over for over 30 years. I was a guest yesterday, Wildy and Tausche, ESPN, Wisconsin, and Mark Tauscher, former NFL player and co-host with Jason Wilde brought up the fact that they have not started a rookie quarterback since 1987.
Starting point is 00:33:20 Wow. That is not a stat. That's a philosophy, I think, right? And that what they have done is they are completely abnormal and they are the outlier when it comes to actually producing at that position two things. You draft or bring in a quarterback when you want one, and you don't pay a quarterback too much where they can't outperform their contract.
Starting point is 00:33:40 It's an anomaly what we've seen for over 30 years. John Caliperies, the players that he brings in going to the NBA is a complete anomaly. The amount of players that he has had that have been won and done going to the NBA is insane. And you would think based on the talent that he produces, they would have more than one championship during his run there. Based on the fact that you've had a first ballot Hall of Fame quarterback
Starting point is 00:34:00 in Green Bay for over 30 years, you would assume they would have more than two total championships, right? So I don't know what the job is, though, because John Caliperi is at the NBA All-Star game with all of his players. He's at the NBA draft with the entire first round, right? He's not cutting down nets in March, though. I don't know what is because he, I think, now he may look at it as this is what I'm saying because I'm not winning titles
Starting point is 00:34:25 or he may say, no, I'm here to make young men better in life. And I am making all of these young men better in life because Every single one of these guys is making millions, and they will have generational wealth because they played here and now their first round picks and insanely successful in the NBA. Yeah, he's probably thinking the philosophy is if I can attract the highest talent to come here and play basketball, we have a very good chance of it resulting in a championship. I know that it's going to be a feeder program into the NBA. and with the way that I have assembled this team and the way that I recruit talent, we are putting ourselves in a position
Starting point is 00:35:03 to not only compete every year, but be relevant every year. Now, has that resulted in the amount of championships he probably would have liked? No. But he's accomplished both of those things most of the time. They're relevant and they're in the mix. Just as a point of compare and contrast, Jay Wright, Villanova,
Starting point is 00:35:22 who is not a college coach anymore, won two titles, and produced insane amounts of NBA players. He's, in my mind, he's clearly better than John Colbert. Because he's done both, right? There are other guys that have won a ton in college that are not, like, not necessarily going to produce tons of NBA players. I am unsure of what the job is at times.
Starting point is 00:35:45 Like, I remember having this conversation, and it's an odd comparison, but about Urban Meyer, when he was coaching Tim Tebow at Florida, I kept asking the question, what is his job as it relates to Tebow? Is it to fix his throwing motion for the NFL or to just continue what he's doing because they're winning every college game, right? What is the job? Right? When we critique John Caliperi and we're saying he's like the cowboys or all these quote unquote underachievers, he has won. And he has produced more millionaires than anybody.
Starting point is 00:36:15 What is – I don't know. I haven't asked Matt Jones specifically who knows more about this than anybody in terms of Kentucky. What is the job of the Kentucky basketball coach? Is it to win as many games as possible? To win championships. Yeah. That's the goal. Like when, do you know the last time they played in the final four?
Starting point is 00:36:29 I don't. You should. You should. Yeah, you should have. Oh, Wisconsin. Okay. I didn't know that that was the last one. No, they were out 14, too, I think.
Starting point is 00:36:35 The last time they made in Elite 8? No. 2019. So that program is underachieving. It's your comp to the Packers is, I think, the perfect example there. Because they have something abnormal, right? Like, you have to. I think that is the reason I brought that up and wanted to play it is, while I don't know what,
Starting point is 00:36:55 they're talking about with what's the job. The job is to win. But it does show that I think on a national level, Shannon, people do think we've underachieved. I mean, it's not, there's this perception amongst college basketball media that Kentucky fans are just crazy. And Kentucky fans have these wild expectations. And Kentucky fans, these are people who are not beholden to the media.
Starting point is 00:37:22 And they're going, look at all these people they've had, They have underachieved. So I get a little tired. I've always been like this. You can go back to when I started my career in 2005. I hate the way the media portrays Kentucky fans. Like we're somehow insane and we have these wild expectations. All these people in college basketball media, rather than criticize the coaches,
Starting point is 00:37:46 the ADs, etc., they criticize our fans and act like they're insane. When you get outside the college basketball media and you look at media as a whole, that isn't best friends with everybody, they'll go, well, they've underachieved. And I am tired of people acting like our fan base is somehow crazy to say, hey, we should have been, Shannon, a little bit better in these last few years than we've been, because I don't think that's unreasonable. Who has had more talent than Kentucky and only won one national title out of any college basketball team? No one.
Starting point is 00:38:19 No one. No one. No one has. And like I said, the tournament is random. So I don't get, the tournament is random. But what gets me is what the last five years have been like. Because it's not random. To be honest, we've deserved our results the last few years.

Welcome back, final segment here of Kentucky Sports Radio at Lee's famous recipe here on 4th Street in Danville. Thanks to Justin, all the folks here at Lees.
Starting point is 00:39:18 We have a great time. Great food here. If you're in the Danville area, come check. them out. They've been awesome to us. Look forward to it. I praise it. Every time I air somebody from Danville, I'm always like, got to go to that lease. And they always have already been because it's a community staple. Which we still had one in Middlesbrough.
Starting point is 00:39:39 We have one in Lexington, right? Yeah, Justin, once you come back and open these up and Lexington. Yeah, open them back up. There used to be one on my drive and it's gone. All right, we had a couple people on hold during the thing. Who's next? God, Jordan up next. Go ahead, Jordan. Hey, Matt. Just had a quick follow-up, actually, to the other guy about the final play, what I was calling about.
Starting point is 00:40:02 I know Cal takes a lot of criticism for not calling timeouts late in games. And if you notice, we put Rob in, obviously, because we had to score, but them not calling a time-out, he was stuck to play defense when he had been coming out with the offensive defense swap, and that's ultimately what gave up the rebound. So that kind of worked out for LSU, you know, just from a person else. But, I mean, they got, you're correct. But I would say the decision to whether call a timeout or not, to me, is really just about whether or not you succeed. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:40:36 Right, right. There are guys that call timeouts and it works. There are guys that don't call timeout and it works. I don't really have an opinion either way. But I think whatever you decide to do, we need to actually win and we've been losing too many of these close games with these decisions. but whether you do or don't call time out to me is a personal thing and how you trust your team or not. Right, right. And if they don't get that freakish tip in, then I guess LSU fans are mad.
Starting point is 00:41:05 They didn't call time out. Yeah, I mean, look, they got a bad shot. Let's be, yeah, let's be real. I mean, I appreciate the call. We stopped them. Yep. Like, Reeves was guarding a guy with the ball. He played good defense.
Starting point is 00:41:19 He brought him into the arrow. The arrow blocked it. It's what you wanted. It just ended up in the wrong situation. Like, I can't blame them. They played good defense on that. It probably would have been smarter considering our out-of-bounds defense for them to call a time out and reset it in that situation.
Starting point is 00:41:34 I agree. But he didn't. He rolled with it. But he's probably right that LSU's coach decided to go for it because Dillingham was in. But it wasn't even Dillingham's man who made the move, right? It was, now it might have been Dillingham's man. I got the rebound.
Starting point is 00:41:48 I'm not sure. Was it? Because he was leaking out. He shouldn't have leaked out, though. Dillingham did screw that up. That was a bad decision on his part. Who's next? Casey is up next.
Starting point is 00:41:58 Casey, go ahead, Casey. Hey, good morning, Bellers. So after listening to that clip, it kind of made me change my call because I'm kind of furious now because we have not been to the final four since my son was in my belly, and he is eight and a half. He is a second grader. And we get Kentucky, and that is not acceptable. But my question is, we see all these numbers in analytics and we see them.
Starting point is 00:42:20 Doesn't Cal get the numbers of who he? needs to play of how much better the over-unders are because the severance has got to stop we is Kentucky and we deserve better and that's all well I'm sure he has access to the numbers Ryan I don't know to what extent he uses them or not I'm not around to say but I'm sure he has access to it he does but he's just you know he preaches that players first and I'm going to try to help my guys get to the NBA and make as much money as they can that's his goal he doesn't strike me as an analytic not not main goal that's one of his goals yeah I mean I think he believes he can help these dudes play through some of this stuff.
Starting point is 00:42:55 Yeah. But do you think he's sitting down analyzing numbers? I don't think so. Let me think about something sort of an interesting way. I bet you if you ask John Calpheria at the beginning of the year, who's his starting lineup going to be? He would have said Wagner Reeves, Edwards, Mitchell, Bradshaw. Yeah. There's a decent argument that our best lineup right now only has one of those guys in. You could argue our best lineup is Shepherd, Dillingham, Reeves, Thiero, and Hugo. Which has got to be weird for him, that he thought the lineup was going to be one thing, and now it's completely different if you're actually wanting to play the best.
