Starting point is 00:02:52 and grill cats are 20 what are we 20 or excuse me 19 and 8 is that right 19 and 8 19 and 8 with four games to go. I think that's correct. Sounds right. Yeah, I think that's right. I think we're 19. That's right. His guy knows.
Starting point is 00:03:10 He looks like, you know, here's the thing. If we don't know the answer, just like answer confidently. And then I'm going to believe it. That's one of a bit, very important thing in life. Always answer confidently. Yep. When you don't, then people won't, they won't believe. 859-9-2-80-2287.
Starting point is 00:03:28 Text machine, 772-75-25-4. lot of people are telling me do not take the Alexandria Drive thing that because it's not safe, correct? That not because of just because there are no sidewalks that like you shouldn't walk on that. That's the shortest way, but not the safest way. So maybe we should, you should go the long way? I want you to be safe. At the end of the day, while I love a good bit, I don't want you to be hurt.
Starting point is 00:03:53 Okay. So like, I don't want you like walking on a tight rope or walking on a mountain. I just want you to get to the Clark's pumping shop. in one piece. In the pouring rain tomorrow. If it's pouring rain, I think that just adds to the excitement. I have one person who's already told me they're not going to walk, but they will be watching you to make sure everything's okay.
Starting point is 00:04:14 It's even scarier if they're not walking. They'll be hovering around you. A couple things before we go to the phones. I know you like, Drew, you're like me. You like the comedian Shane Gillis. Did you watch Saturday Night Live? I did. That's maybe the first.
Starting point is 00:04:31 Saturday Night Live in years where I had been counting down to it for a couple weeks. You watched Nate a few weeks ago. That's true. That one too. But normally I don't even know, I don't care to know who the host is, but that one I've kind of had on the calendar a while. So my quick take about him, I thought he was insanely nervous at the beginning. I did set it right away. So here's the thing.
Starting point is 00:04:51 I'm not like, I like him. I think he's really funny. I'm not like an Uber fan, but he was so nervous at the beginning of his monologue that it made me nervous for him. know how you can watch something and like you're almost you could feel it yeah and it almost becomes shannon uncomfortable right because you you're like is he okay yeah i was like to i had to turn it all really because i because i was like i don't want to watch this person i like just completely bomb now then when it was over i went back and watched and after the first three or four minutes he kind of settled in and he was better but do they laugh track those because he was
Starting point is 00:05:28 saying ooh i thought i'd get a reaction out of that but on TV, it would be this huge roar of laughter. I agree with you. I thought the exact same thing. I don't think he laughed. He kept acting like the crowd didn't like him, but it seemed like they did. The woman behind him in the band did not like him. She was clearly not having it.
Starting point is 00:05:47 I thought it was funny. It was clear, though, he's nervous. But I will say, the Lehmu Emu skit. Have you watched that yet? No, I haven't seen any shit yet. Shannon, have you seen that yet? No. I tweeted out yesterday.
Starting point is 00:05:59 It's only like two minutes. You might watch it during the commercial. Okay. Okay. It's just two minutes. They do a thing about the Liberty Mutual. And you saw it. I saw the whole episode.
Starting point is 00:06:09 I think it is absolutely hilarious. I don't want to give it away because the punch line is a little bit of just seen. And then he got to do his Trump, which I kind of his thing. He does it amazing. He does, does he do the best Trump? It's up there. I think he does the best. Dave Chappelle even called him out of the crowd one time at a show.
Starting point is 00:06:28 It was like, will you do your Trump for everyone? The three best trumps I've ever seen. I think he might be number one. I think I've said this before on here. You know who does an amazing Trump is Jamie Fox. Jamie Fox. Jamie Fox does an amazing Trump. And then the little kid that was on Hank Kentucky.
Starting point is 00:06:46 I loved him. He was awesome. What about to that guy? He did a really good one too, did. He did. I actually think he did like a great one. So anyway, so I watched that. And I thought the, but I thought he did a good,
Starting point is 00:06:59 I was rooting for it. him because he just seems like, I don't know, he just seems like a dude that's about normal. So I was pulling for him. He's, even though he's a stand-up comedian, he has a lot of, like, internet skits that are hilarious. That's why I knew the sketches would do pretty well with some writing, because he can act. Some of the stand-up people, they get him on there, and it's just not good. But he was great in that.
Starting point is 00:07:18 He kind of made fun of our friends at Draft Kings with that sports gambling app. Oh, he definitely made fun of our friends at Draft Kings. There was a Draft Kings, like, not just Draft Kings, but there was a sports gambling one. that maybe hit too close to home for you for some of these folks, yes. Well, I'm going to see it. I haven't seen any skits or anything. If you just Google his name, you'll see. The Trump Shoes.
Starting point is 00:07:37 The Trump Shoes was a big one. Yeah, so he had like three or four that were pretty good. 859-280-22-87. I also want to give a big shout out. On Friday night, we had an OVW show at Manchester Music Hall. And first of all, I'm not going to, now I can give you a little behind the scenes. I was a little nervous because two days before. the show, we had about 400 people there the first time.
Starting point is 00:08:01 Two days before the show, we'd only sold 200 tickets, and I was getting a little nervous. Shannon, I was. I was like, uh-oh, uh-oh. We sold 300 tickets in two days, so we got to 500. So it was actually a much bigger crowd than we had the last time. So it was awesome. I guess this is a late. Now you just got to know people buy tickets late.
Starting point is 00:08:18 I'm not going to say anything. Shannon, that was the best you've ever been. I'm just going to leave it at that. I'm going to leave it at that because I don't want, but that was, Shannon has never entertained me more, and I will just leave it at that. But I was very proud of you, Shannon. You did an amazing job. I appreciate that.
Starting point is 00:08:38 I caught a chop from cash flow for the first time of my life. I regret that. And I got a chip tooth. Yeah, he chipped his tooth. He took a stone cold stutter. Dedicated to the crack. Shannon chipped his tooth Friday night. And then we went to Indianapolis Sunday.
Starting point is 00:08:53 First time we've gone out of our little region, and we filled up that bill. Good. So we were excited about that. Well, people all watch that documentary, and they want to see Cash, and they want to see Shannon the dude and people. Shannon the dude and people. Who's next? Let's go to Harold. Harold.
Starting point is 00:09:11 Harold. How are you, Harold? I'm good. How are you, guys? Doing great. What's up? I got a question for you. When I watch television and see several teams have the national flag on their uniforms, I was just wondering, how come Kentucky?
Starting point is 00:09:28 doesn't have the American flag on their uniform. I have no idea. What teams do have the flag? I really don't know, but just different conferences, I guess. Yeah, I don't know. I'm sure you're right, but I don't know, and I don't. You know, I mean, we have a flag in a lot of places. I think there's a lot of flags.
Starting point is 00:09:54 We do the National Anthem. I think we're probably, you know, I think they probably just don't want to put more stuff on the uniform. But I've not heard anyone say we're not going to have the flag. Okay, well, thank you. Not all of our players are American. That's another thing to remember. That's true.
Starting point is 00:10:14 That could be true, too, yes. Yeah. So I appreciate the call. I think that's another thing we have. But, you know, if they want to put it on there, they can. But I can't think of teams that have a flag. In the pros, they do some. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:26 Speaking of the flag, we did the national. anthem as a family at that game with Everett McCorvey. That's always a nice tradition at Rupp Arena. Rupp was awesome again. They've been so good this year with keeping things going during the breaks. I've been critical of that in the past. The dance cameras and the snack quarts cam, all that stuff they've added has been a lot of fun this year. I'm glad you said that. The fans showed up, like Florida, Tennessee, Gonzaga, didn't get the win. They deserve that feel-good win they had on Saturday. Did you all see any of the end of the NASCAR race yesterday? I heard it was like unbelievably close.
Starting point is 00:11:00 So like for the first time in a while, I was waiting on my mom. She was coming to stay here last night. And I was kind of waiting on her. So I put on the NASCAR race at Atlanta. And man, it was, first of all, it was fun. They go too fast there. Yeah. So I heard Kevin Harvick say, we go too fast for this track and we always think we're going to wreck.
Starting point is 00:11:22 And he was like, this is the scariest track now to race on because we always think we're going to wreck. So they were all over the place. They did wreck. a lot. But the finish, Shannon, the finish, three cars finished three wide, and you couldn't tell who won in real time. Like, it was, it was, that was as, maybe the best NASCAR finish I've ever seen. The three cars went across the line almost instantaneously. And they didn't know until the replay who won. Yeah, the report I heard on the radio this morning, it is the closest NASCAR race, I think, ever. Is it? Yeah, I think so. It's, the guy who was announcing it, said the wrong name.
Starting point is 00:11:59 He said one guy one and the other guy one, Daniel Suarez. He thought the other, but I could see why you couldn't tell. I mean, they all just. Three wide coming down across the finish line. They were three wide crossing the finish line at the same time. Sounds like NASCAR is getting a little.
Starting point is 00:12:13 They've had two good weeks here, back to back and, you know, doing their thing. So I don't know, I don't know where they are next week. Las Vegas, I think. Yeah, that one's a boring track. But the one yesterday,
Starting point is 00:12:25 I actually thought was pretty good. That is some much needed publicity. That sport desperately needs, so. If you haven't seen the finish, you've got to see it. It's like three cars, and they're three wide. Dead heat. And there's my explanation. But it was.
Starting point is 00:12:38 You did a good job. It was exciting. I enjoyed it, even though I'm not sure who came in second or third. I remember seeing Suarez won't, but I don't know who was in second or third. Kyle Bush was one of him, wasn't he? Actually, he was. That's right. Kyle Bush was one, and I don't remember who the other was.
Starting point is 00:12:55 Who's next? Edward. Edward, go ahead, Edward. Hey, Matt, happy Monday. How are you? Happy Monday to you. Okay, so I'm not in a hot tub today. I'm actually on a sales call.
Starting point is 00:13:06 So a little bit different than my last call, but I was at the game on Saturday. Two quick things, I'll let you go. First, I love the environment. So proud of Justin Edwards, but beyond the point, just what he said in the post game about mental health and kind of speaking out on that, especially for a tough environment like Kentucky. I was proud to see one of our players that, you know, where's our name on their jersey, say something like that.
Starting point is 00:13:29 So that's really great. And, you know, as you'd probably agree with me, we got to just stick with DJ. I feel like there's a matchup this season. We're really going to need them defensively or offensively, and we're going to need his aggression. So, you know, just like we kind of stuck with Justin, we've got to stick with DJ. Yeah, I mean, I love the show. Thank you guys.
Starting point is 00:13:46 Yeah, you can't. I don't think you can give up on any of the guys because I do think there are going to be games where we need all of the guys, right, on the team. I do think there's going to be games where we need all of them. With that said, though, you know, you got to play the guys that are playing well. And they did that, I think, most of the time. I really love the three guards thing. I mean, we've been kind of calling for it all year.
Starting point is 00:14:07 Felt like Cal had three guards in together most of the game Saturday. I mean, it tended to be Reeves, Shepard, and Dillingham most of it, but he did have Wagner in chunks. And I feel like Drew, that's just how this team plays better, you know? That's kind of been how I wanted to play all year. I don't even care to the three guards. Three of the four need to be on the court together. We finally got Edwards at the four.
Starting point is 00:14:30 It looked great. Make him and a do. Kind of switch them out there. They can play a little three to give a guard a break. And then the big guy make it situational, and that's my team. It's a little awkward with Trey Mitchell there. You don't just leave him aside when he comes back. But I think with those four guards, you need to maximize their minutes playing together.
Starting point is 00:14:48 DJ, I agree with Carl. I don't want to throw him away. He's got to start hitting that three, though, to stay on the court. He's 0 for 15 from 3. And it's not just that he's old for 15, like they're not even close. Well, that's the issue because they're not guarding him, and it just changes the whole offense. He's kind of getting the Wheeler treatment from three right now,
Starting point is 00:15:05 and he's better than that, but he's got to get it to start going. And it makes it harder for him to drive to the basket because they're not, they're just not guarding him out there at all. But listen, man, you put, we're going to look back and say that we've never had a better three-point shooting team than this. Oh, never. Ever. I mean, and not even close.
Starting point is 00:15:26 And we have two, maybe three, like insanely elite three-point shooters. Yeah. I'd almost like to spread these guys out. It would have been nice if we had one of them in other years, and we've got like four this year. In some years, Edwards would be our best three-point shoot the way he's shooting right now. Oh, yeah. You know, now he's the fourth option almost. Big Z, when he's out there, he's a three-point threat.
Starting point is 00:15:49 Big Z. Big Z gives me more laughter watching him play. I mean, Bigsy play, he has a face of a child. Yeah. He just looked. Shannon, doesn't he just look so happy when he's playing? He's just like, yay! He does remind you of a seven-foot, like, elementary kid.
Starting point is 00:16:09 Yeah, it looks like he's just going, yay, this is fun. He immediately looks to the bench for approval, no matter what he does. Yes, he does. We got to get him to stop hanging on the rim. They could have teed him up, but he loves doing the chin up. It's like he's just out there having fun in his own world, but it was. worked really well in that game he does he does love the chin up i'm surprised they called it on him once i thought he might have learned his lesson he hung on there a while he did again sat yesterday
Starting point is 00:16:32 saturday yeah yeah but uh it's a fun team man that's what so it's it is the most fun team uh to watch in a long long time so i you know like drew said earlier mississippi state tomorrow night they're kind of a big physical team but i don't want cow to change the way this team is playing you know yeah i don't know it's tough because you know some of these dudes get pushed around when they play a team like that. So Tolo Smith killed him in Rupp Arena, even though Kentucky won. He was a force. Hey, the cornbread hip community needs to get back to enjoying life with the one you love.
Starting point is 00:17:05 Right? That's what you need to do. And so why not cornbread hemp.com? Well, they had 40 people there the other night, and it was nice to meet all the cornbread hemp folks. Get together, cheer on the cats. And remember, you can get a t-shirt from cornbread hip that says, my grass is blue. That's right.
Starting point is 00:17:21 That t-shirt, when you order through the end. of March. If you use the code March, you can get cornbread hemp and my grass's blue t-shirt. March. Pretty good deal. M-A-R-C-H. Go to cornbreadhimp. Use March. Get a t-shirt. Get the cornbread hemp and have a big party. We'll take a break and be right back. It's Kentucky Sports Radio. To talk to Matt Jones and the crew call the Clark's Puppet Shop phone line at 859-280-2-87 or 1-800-606. You can also text Matt on the A-Vision Glass text machine at 717. 274 5254. Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio.
Starting point is 00:17:58 859-28027. Text machine 772-774-5254. One person writes, Matt, I really enjoyed the game, but I'm worried about Ryan for his walk. It's a 17-minute difference, but it's 17 minutes to keep him safe. I guess I'll have to go that route and be late. Maybe not make it by the end of the show.
Starting point is 00:18:23 Unless you want me to start here early. People are putting way too much faith and just this. He's going to walk faster than that. There's going to be points where you cut a little corner. You don't have to walk to every street corner and hang a 90 degree turn. You can shave some time. I have short little stubby legs. And like when you and I walked around Memphis that one day,
Starting point is 00:18:41 I was almost at a full sprint trying to keep up with your long gate. I have a short gate. You have a long gate. That is true. You do have a short gate. And I do have a long gate. Yes. But I feel like if need.
Starting point is 00:18:53 be you can run. Yeah, it's been a while. Here's what you need to do. You need to figure out today on your way home. What's the halfway point? Yeah. And then see if you're there at 11. Okay.
Starting point is 00:19:04 All right. I'll tell you what, Shannon, here's what we'll do. I'll try to get here like five minutes early. We'll say goodbye to him on the pre-show. Okay. At the end of the pre-show. Give me a little head start. Give you just a little bit of a head start.
Starting point is 00:19:15 But then I want, you can't, you can't not make it. Yeah, I know. You got people watching you. Yeah, they're giving away. We got drones. They're all going to have to pay. for their coffee. They're going to be sitting there drinking coffee.
Starting point is 00:19:25 They thought was going to be free, and you didn't show up. We got drones waiting for you to make sure that you're there. Is it really going to rain in the morning? It's supposed to rain tomorrow. I don't know if it's in the morning. I have a poncho. One person, so did you listen to the postgame show? I didn't get to hear it.
Starting point is 00:19:42 Of course not. We were talking about, somebody asked about Justin Edwards, and where he ranked in the best left-handers at UK Alta. And we were just mentioning left-handers. And so I think the top choices are Goose, Kevin Grevy, Tayshan, and then people were mentioning other ones, James Lee, Eric Daniels. Nobody mentioned this guy on the postgame show. James Young is a lefty.
Starting point is 00:20:12 I'll tell you somebody that's a lefty we forget is Julius Randall. We forget that he's a lefty. How about Deerrin Fox? Didn't mention him. That's exactly right. Okay, so now knowing those, just for their time at UK, who are the best lefties? So I'm going to have to go, Givens, I'm going Tayshan second, grievy third, Randall, and see, I'd forgotten about Fox, so I'm going to go Fox fifth. That's going to be my list.
Starting point is 00:20:42 I completely forgot about Fox. I'll add one more. We didn't say Terrence Jones, did we? He's got a championship. Also a lefty. So how you rank a nose? So you definitely got to go I think those three Grieie Givens and Tayshan
Starting point is 00:20:55 I think that's they're locked in And you know Julius Randall drugged this team To a championship game and had the record for double doubles Didn't he when the time he left Until Oscar I think Oscar broke it So it'd be tough to keep him off the list So then who's fifth you take him Fox You're going to take Jones
Starting point is 00:21:13 You're going to take James Lee Terence Jones did win a championship Darren Fox got beating the elite A I'm going to go Terrence Jones. Yeah, well, he also had Anthony Davis. It was pretty good. What about you? What are you doing?
Starting point is 00:21:26 Aline Fox. I just think he's special. But with James Lee and Jones, they get a little extra credit for having that ring. But I think I'm still going to go, Deeran Fox. So that led to a conversation where I asked Billy, and I said, Billy, what percentage of the population is left-handed? And he read that it. And you know what? Here's how he answered it, Shannon.
Starting point is 00:21:46 He goes, well, in 1860, 2% of the population was left-handed. And I was like, well, I'm asking today, Shannon, not 1860, right? Yeah. And he said, well, in 1920, it was 4%. And I'm like, all right, we're getting closer. Yeah. And then it turns out now it's 10 to 12%. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:22:04 And so I said, well, that's a huge increase, five to six time increase in 150 years. So why? And I had all weekend people sending me why? Because back in the day, if you were left-handed, they just said, know and made you be right-handed, no matter what, and now they let people be it, which sort of begs the question, why don't we still make them be right-handed? That is true. They forced left-handed kids to do stuff right-handed, play sports, right? So were they just worse at it? Oh, yeah, I think eventually you just learn how to do it if you just do it over time,
Starting point is 00:22:45 right-handed. Like, if you started writing with your left-hand every day, I think you'd get to the point you could do it. 50% of this show is left-handed. Yeah. Yeah. Shannon and I. But I don't feel like you guys do. We were right-left-handed.
Starting point is 00:22:58 We're talking about writing. Writing left-hand. Yeah. Okay. But like, when you play golf, right-me? I'm actually probably am an extraous. I can even, I mean, not great, but I can throw a football kind of the same with each arm. I can do some things with both.
Starting point is 00:23:13 I used to be all right with both a little better, but I'm mostly left, but I do a lot of right-handed things. All sports, I'm pretty much right-handed. Baseball, golf, shoot a basketball. Probably that's how they taught it to you when you were little. But I shoot pull left-handed. Are you like that? Well, you know, my brother was in the military,
Starting point is 00:23:30 and they say how you hold a gun or how you shoot pools, how you really what you are. How you hold a gun? Yeah, like you shoot a rifle. But see, I hold a gun, right-handed and shoot pull-left-handed. Yeah, I'm left-handed. Well, I kick left-footed. You do, too, I do too.
Starting point is 00:23:45 Is that the only thing you do left-handed? See, I can't do anything left-handed except, but my left foot is my dominant foot. So I don't. But anyway, I just found it interesting how many more people were left-handed, and then everybody was like, it's because they made you not be left-handed before. Yeah, that article that Yoga Girl sent to you and me last night, like Barack Obama, Babe Ruth. Barack Obama, I think, was our first left-handed president. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:24:12 Bill Clinton was left-handed. Okay, well, then that's not true about Barack Obama. How about Cliff Hawkins and Eric Daniels, too? We forgot. I wanted to add. And Hashimu. See, what's interesting is, I can't think of a bad left-handed play. Or at least a left-handed player that wasn't –
Starting point is 00:24:28 because everybody we've mentioned is pretty good. Can you think of, like, a bench-warmer lefty? Well, I can think one. E.J. Montgomery – he wasn't a bench-womber. He started, but someone that's not really in the category. Can you think of one back in the day that wasn't so good that was a left-handed player? Because it feels like left-handers have a pretty good streak of being pretty good. be good.
Starting point is 00:24:47 Right? Severe was the one that. Oh, yeah. Yeah, that's right. I forgot. Jared Vanderbilt's lefty. But here's in that article, the reason we drive on the right side of the road was because of Napoleon.
Starting point is 00:25:01 Did you read that part? We're like, the military was designed where you would march on the left side because you were right-handed. Well, he decided that he's one of his troops to march on the right side of the road because he was left-handed. And that led to us our traffic flow now while we drive on the right side. It's in that article. The look, Matt's giving Ryan right now.
Starting point is 00:25:22 Matt's in disbelief. Yep. I mean, if it was in the article. And it was on the internet. It was on the internet. We'll be right back. T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay.
Starting point is 00:25:34 Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio. 859-280-22.87. There are people write me on the text machine saying, Shannon, the church used to think if you were left-handed, you were demonic. That checks out. Yeah, that article's talking about how they thought even that the devil was left-handed.
Starting point is 00:25:55 How would they know the devil was left-handed? I don't know. How he holds a pitchfork? Maybe. Is that in the Bible that the devil is left-handed? I have to ask your mom. And my mom would know. She is studying at the Bible library today.
Starting point is 00:26:10 Is she got her final exam? No, no. This is her last semester. She graduates in May. I'm going to Dallas for her graduation in May. And she's graduated in May. She's doing her final paper, and I guess they had books at the Lexington Theological Seminary Library that she had to go to.
Starting point is 00:26:30 So that's what she came up here. So she came up here, and she's at the library all day. She left. I heard her leave this morning at like 7.30 to, like, do library stuff all day. Libraries open that early? I guess, man. The Christians get up. up and they when they study they're up with the lord morning crowd yeah i can't remember the last time i
Starting point is 00:26:51 stepped into a library i was at willie t all the time in college what is the last that's a good question when you think is the last time you've been to a library i know our little league team had our had a league meeting in the library conference room when you were in little league or like it's that when you were coaching okay so that would have been at least like 16 years ago so last time you've been a library was 16 years ago. Probably. And it wasn't to get a book. Well, I mean, there aren't as many people that go to get books now. Like, now as people do, like, to get on the internet, some, or, like, some people get books
Starting point is 00:27:26 in a library. But you have no interest in walking in a library. I absolutely do not. I've never been in the William T. Young Library, ever. I used to go when my friends were studying, and I had nothing to do, and I would just sit there and hang out. Yeah, I remember the footstabber was there. Yeah, right?
Starting point is 00:27:41 at the library. A couple things real quick of seriousness. I want to note the passing of Kelly Bates, worked for the Lexington Chamber of Commerce, was a huge fan of this show, did a lot for the city of Lexington. I think listened every day. She had a long battle with cancer as a family,
Starting point is 00:28:03 kids who are, I think, around college age. But my prayers are with them. I know she did a lot for the city of Lexington. and a big KSR listener. Also, I want to tell you, just a quick story, a man came up to me and said at OVW.
Starting point is 00:28:17 And Shannon, every person should have friends like this. Guy comes up to me and says, hey, tomorrow night, there's a group of guys, we're going to your bar. We had a friend who passed a few months ago with ALS. And your bar was one of his favorite places to go.
Starting point is 00:28:35 So we've decided to honor him once every couple months, his friend group, we're going to get together, go to your bar, sit a beer on the table in honor of him, and spend time together in his memory. And they did that Saturday night. Very cool. And Shannon, everyone should have a friend like that, right? Absolutely.
Starting point is 00:28:56 Yeah, that is awesome. So he told me his name. I'm sorry, I wasn't able to write it down, so I don't remember it. But my prayers are with his family and a salute to those guys who did that. because, you know, hopefully we all have somebody who remembers us, Ryan, like that. What a great, great gesture they're doing for their friend. Obviously, somebody who died way too soon. And I keep his memory alive.
Starting point is 00:29:19 And, you know, a lot this year has been focused on the various debates amongst the fans. But someone comes up to me and tells a story something like those two stories about Kelly and the man. Every couple days. And I want you to know how much it means to me. It really does. I know it gets cliche to say that's why we do it, but it is. And for all the negativity that happens from people who don't listen, that's why this show is what it is are folks like that.
Starting point is 00:29:50 Who's next? Philip. Philip. Philip. What's going on, guys? What's going on? Not much. I'm going to go ahead and beat the dead horse to death here with Big Z.
Starting point is 00:30:02 But I want to talk about, I understand. that there are games where he gets in foul trouble early or can get in foul trouble. I know he seems to be at lost. But I think there's a trend in any of the games that he's played, I believe it's 10, 11 minutes or more. He is beyond more productive than combined. But the problem is, though, the problem is not those games.
Starting point is 00:30:26 And I think he's only done that in two games. But the problem is not those games. Because those games, like, he's clearly fine. The problem is when he plays against teams that are physical inside, he gives up a point every time, like every single time. Like they get every rebound or they just score on him. And like that's not to say there isn't a role for him. Clearly when you play against teams like Alabama or Georgia,
Starting point is 00:30:54 like he can be amazing. But, you know, like Tuesday night against Mississippi State, Tolu Smith, sir, he's not going to be able to guard him. Well, I mean, I'm not disagreeing there, but I guess my point is that Uganda is not, I mean, he's not a world beater when he's in there. And I don't want to bash on him. I mean, he's obviously necessary for the team. But in my opinion, I would like to see start the, if he gets into trouble, that's fine. Then you put Uganda back in.
Starting point is 00:31:25 But remember, Uganda, we're not too many games apart from Uganda almost had a triple double. You know, I mean, like we need to make sure we don't just live in the moment. moment. Uganda had a triple double a couple weeks ago. He was close. He was like 15, 10, and 8. While I love Z, Uganda's had as many points as Z's had in a game, right?
Starting point is 00:31:46 He's had more rebounds. I mean, he's been two points short. It doesn't matter. Like, I mean, that's it. And he's had 10 boards or 12 boards. He's had eight blocks. Like, you can't just say Alabama's the worst defensive team in the country. The worst.
Starting point is 00:32:02 Like, I don't think you can just say, well, Z had a good game so you should start every week? Well, double check me. Maybe it's the, maybe it's Ken Palm, just rankings in general. But I looked it up. They had, they had Alabama as sixth or did. They do, but of the top 25 teams, of the top 25 teams in the country, which is really what matters for this, they're the worst defensive team of all.
Starting point is 00:32:27 Gotcha. Well, my only, my only thing was the, is it's not so much the defensive side of things because obviously you've got us a probably a better shot blocker although he did have four my thing is it's the spacing on the offensive side of the floor he does help with that the law that reed through him that he caught and did the reverse like no offense do you Ghana and bratsall but they're not making that move they're not but against mississippi state let's say he makes a move like that but then he gives up three offensive rebounds that's the issue that's why he doesn't he he and i appreciate the call i'm not saying that i wouldn't play more maybe you would But that's why Drew he doesn't play. It has nothing. Offensively, this team is better with him. I would completely agree. But defensively, he has been unplayable in some games.
Starting point is 00:33:14 Hopefully he improves enough to where he is playable. Yeah, that's why, like I said, in the first hour, give me that guard line up. And at the center position, you got plenty of news to figure out situational game by game. Saturday, we were close to not having Big Z do anything. First two possessions, he looked bad. Cal turns around and yells, go get him to Hugo. Hugo sits down.
Starting point is 00:33:36 I'm thinking that was Big Z's one minute. We won't see him again. And he finished that little reverse and Cal called Hugo back. If he doesn't do that reverse and Hugo checks in, I don't think we see Big Z again in that game. So it shows you how close that was to happening. But he made them. And Alabama doesn't play like a traditional big, right?
Starting point is 00:33:53 Like they don't play a guy who plays back to the basket big. So it's perfect for him. Like you can't, I mean, I think on the pregame show, Vince and I were both like, this could be a Zian. Right? Like this could, and it was. But now, if you play him against Mississippi State and he plays well, then that's a different conversation. Sure.
Starting point is 00:34:14 Because they're an old physical team, but so far this year he has not played well in those. I think we love the three guards, Edwards at the four, and then plug in your big, like Drew said, at the five. But man, tomorrow night, you know, Cal will not do that. He'll play a do at the four because he needs some physicality. And he'll plug in Hugo at the five because he thinks, you know, Bradshaw and Big Zio get pushed around too much. When you think Tray Mitchell is going to play? There was some whispering he might play Saturday, and then he didn't. Yeah, I think it was a game day decision Saturday.
Starting point is 00:34:44 I mean, he's still a little sore last I heard. But like I said, the good thing is there's no tear. So I think he's coming back. Just don't know when. Yeah. Who's next, Shane? Nate. Nate, go ahead, Nate.
Starting point is 00:34:53 Hey, guys. I've got a quick comment and then a question for you. Just to piggyback off the last caller. I'm not a huge big Z fan, but when he did that underneath the legs pass to the arrow, and he almost dunked that. If the arrow makes that dunk, that's an all-world pass. Like, if he makes that dunk, like we would have gone that. That Z pass was absurd.
Starting point is 00:35:14 That was such a cool path. Yeah. And my question is, I bought my first tickets to the SEC tournament. Yeah. And is there any time that the players sign autographs during that, or should I just not even bother? Yeah, I don't think so. Do you know, do you? You got to get lucky at the hotel.
Starting point is 00:35:33 Yeah, I mean, they're good about it on the street if you run into them, but there's not a designated moment. I don't think. I think that would be. By the way, the SEC tournament, I appreciate the call, could be one of the best ones. Yeah. I mean, there are nine or ten good teams, and that never happens. So I actually think just start to finish, this could be one of the more entertaining
Starting point is 00:35:52 SEC tournaments in a long time. I agree with Tennessee, Auburn, Alabama, Kentucky, even South Carolina. I mean, you know, Mississippi State's playing really well. Ole Miss is pretty good. A&M has beaten almost everybody once and lost everybody once. LSU beat us. I mean, there's a lot of good teams. And you could end up seeing like an Auburn on Friday,
Starting point is 00:36:11 and you know they're going to be hungry after what Kentucky did to them on their, you know, they were undefeated at home until Kentucky went down there and whipped them. So even a four seed could be a very challenging game. They did jack up the prices this year, though. Pretty substantial. And people, Kentucky fans are going to pay it, man. And that's, yeah, I'm just. saying it's a they've certainly they're certainly getting their money's worth this year i just did
Starting point is 00:36:33 two nights there uh their beer prices seem to only be going up each visit too so i tell me about stockton mortgage stockton mortgage i've been working with them a lot recently because the spring buying season kind of hit us in the face last couple weeks a lot of buyers out there a lot of homes going on the market so you want to be prepared you want to get that pre-approval letter having in hand before you go out looking at houses they're easy to it's easy to do you apply online at stockton com you'll talk to your same loan officer every single time not like these online guys where you talk to a different person all the time they're hard to get a cold of not stock to mortgage you're easy to reach or easy to work with you won't be disappointed in m stockton mortgage dot com
Starting point is 00:37:07 and stockton mortgage nmLS 8259 equal housing lender there you go whoa that was off the cuff that in there that's the best you've done without having well it's spring buying season i got to have my my realtor hat on a lot more often so i'm ready to go what is spring buying season it's always just the busiest time of the year for realtors. A lot of houses come on the market, and people want to move as soon as schools out, move during the summer before school starts again. Spring buying season. It's always a good time to buy.
Starting point is 00:37:34 It's always, according to you. We'll take a break and be right back. It's Kentucky Sports Radio. To talk to Matt Jones and the crew, call the Clark's Pump and Shop phone line at 859-280-2287 or 1-800-606-4-2-63, and send us the Kentucky brandit tweet of the day by a tweeting, Matt at KY Sports Radio.
Starting point is 00:37:56 Welcome back. This is Techie Sports Radio. Final segment here at KS Bar and Grill, where folks are out here having lunch, enjoying their day. You've got tomorrow night, Kentucky, Mississippi State, come watch the game here. Drew and I will be out here. Would you guys like to know something?
Starting point is 00:38:15 You want to know why he can't come watch the game out here tomorrow? Ryan Lemon. What's like the worst excuse you can? could think of for not watching a UK basketball game. Shannon, got to get to bed early, that'd be bad. Shannon, would you like to know what the worst? He is going to a George Michael show. George Michael.
Starting point is 00:38:36 He's dead. A George Michael tribute show. The life in times of George Michael. I want you to understand that, Shannon. He is missing watching a Kentucky game here at the bar because he is going to a George Michael tribute show. Tell me it's because yoga. girl's a big fan and you're going because of her.
Starting point is 00:38:54 Yep. Okay. Well, it's still not really a good excuse, but it's better than you going because you want to hear. A George Michael tribute show. First of all, George Michael's fine, but I didn't even know he did tribute shows for him. It's supposed to be good. Don't say that. You're only encouraging him.
Starting point is 00:39:11 You get out too. Oh, where is it? Did you say that? Opera House. Opera House. A George Michael Tribute show. You talk about the life in times of one of America's greatest. I remember something that happened to him.
Starting point is 00:39:23 Do they address that? I don't know if they will or not in the show. What about the life and times of Kentucky basketball? Yes, and we're playing Mississippi State, and it's a George Michael. So here's what my suggestion is, because I worry about Ryan. He's got to be able to know what the score of the game is. Yes. Oh, no.
Starting point is 00:39:42 So during the game, I think people should text Shannon, text Ryan the score. Yeah. So while he's at the George Michael Tribute show, he can keep up with the game. score might change quite a bit, too. When the score changes, he needs the updates. Because how's he going to know what the score is at a given time unless Drew people are updating? So this is really for your benefit because I don't want him to miss anything while the game's happening, Drew. Maybe occasionally text Ryan and say, hey, here's the score of the game.
Starting point is 00:40:13 I assume 100% of our listeners are going to be very busy that night watching the game. So it's a big burden to put on them, but I think they will do that for you. Well, the good thing is I think all of our. listeners should contribute. At least once. Everyone should contribute once so that you are constantly updated at what the score of
Starting point is 00:40:32 the game is at any given time. I foresee a lot of people getting blocked in my near future. Why would you block them? They're trying to help. Well, if they text me the score like 50 times. Well, how about they just text you like 10 times each? That's a lot. Just the media timeouts.
Starting point is 00:40:47 That's really a lot. Yeah, that's a good point. At the media timeouts, just let Ryan know the Because Shannon Howells is he going to know. He's at George Michael Tribute. It's true. Probably don't even get phone service there. So many people there. What's your favorite George Michael song you're going to hear?
Starting point is 00:41:01 Faith. Do you know any other song besides that one? I think there's a couple. I mean, name me another one. Name me your top three George Michael songs that are causing you to skip a UK basketball game for a George Michael tribute show. Faith, okay, give me two more. Wake me up before you go-go.
Starting point is 00:41:20 That's a wham song. It counts. All right, I'll count it. Now give me a third one. This is the tribute you're looking for. You are so wanting to show a tribute, and do you know a third song to tribute? I know it, and I can't think of it.
Starting point is 00:41:39 It's on top of my tongue. Give me a minute. Go ahead. You go ahead. All right. You cannot look at your phone. I'm not. All right.
Starting point is 00:41:43 Who's up next? Steve. Steve, go ahead, Steve. Hey, Matt. In keeping with your left, I would have to think that for an old guy like me, it's got to be Kevin Grevy of Jack Givens. Yeah, well, there is a discussion because Tayshan Prince was pretty awesome.
Starting point is 00:42:08 I mean, I'm fine putting those. Givens is number one, clearly, but you can't just skip over Tayshan Prince. I don't know that's clearly, Matt. I don't know that that's clear. I'm not just if you have Jack. If you ask Jack, if he says that's great. Well, he's top five in scoring all time, Jack is. Well, Kevin was number one when he left and only played three years.
Starting point is 00:42:34 No, Danesle was number one when he left. He was number two when he left and only played three years. And, you know, they played one year together in 75. So they have some knowledge of each other. and how they played and how they competed. And Jack was, you know, basically followed up with the... Well, I understand. I got you. So I got you.
Starting point is 00:43:00 Anything else? Well, you're talking about watching games like Ryan. Kind of like back to the future. I don't know people won't believe this, but in the era that we're talking about, the number of games that you got to see in Kentucky live prior to the NCAA tournament, You know, like mid-70s, maybe three.
Starting point is 00:43:27 Yeah. No, that's been one of the great, that's been one of the great changes of all time. I appreciate the call that you can see all the games. You know, we take that for granted. A lot of times people couldn't see maybe more than a couple of year. And I don't know what it is, but it just seemed like that game on CBS Saturday made it more special. I don't know why, but just have. No, CBS, look, it's going to stink when CBS loses the contract.
Starting point is 00:43:49 This is the last year of having games on CBS. As a matter of fact, our game Saturday, against Arkansas or Tennessee. What is the last CBS game we'll ever have outside of the tournament? I'm actually excited this afternoon. I get to rewatch it. I was at the game, but there's just something different about those.
Starting point is 00:44:05 It is. I can't even tell Bing there. They just bring so many more people. They're crews different. The CBS games are better. Now, maybe when ESPN is putting those games on ABC next year, maybe it'll feel like that. But I'm with you.
Starting point is 00:44:17 The CBS games, they're just better. Don Franklin Otto is just better, too. It's a CBS of car dealerships. Don Franklin Auto.com, best selection, best prices, best service. There's one near you, 24 locations. If you're buying a vehicle and you don't buy it, Don Franklin Auto, you will be put in prison. Go to Don Franklin Auto.com, the best place to get a vehicle. Starting point is 00:44:57 He's not even in the video. But you didn't remember it. I remembered it during the, when you let me think of it. Sure you did. We'll see you tomorrow.
