Starting point is 00:00:00 Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and Friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter.
Starting point is 00:00:23 Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and Friends on the I-Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where SportsSlice comes in. I'm Timbo, and every episode we're cutting through the noise, breaking down the biggest moments in sports and giving you the real story behind the headlines. And we're going straight to the source, the athletes themselves, their locker room stories, their reactions in the moment, and the stuff nobody gets to hear. Listen to Sports Slice on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:01:00 And for more, follow Timbo Slica Life 12 in the TikTok podcast network on TikTok. What's up, guys? This is Clivert Taylor the 4th. And on my podcast, The Clivert Show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff. Like being an internet famous referee. We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me.
Starting point is 00:01:19 He goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Time out. Quarterback on office blue with 42. A rep, my mama want you to wave at her. What? Where's she at? Hey, Miss Parker. Listen to the Clifford Show on the IHeart Radio app,

Welcome, everyone. It is Kentucky Sports Radio. Tuesday, February the 27th. I'm Matt Jones on a very rainy day in Lexington, Kentucky. You can give us a shout on the Clark's Pumping Shop phone line.
Starting point is 00:02:33 That's 859-280-2287. A Vision Auto Glass text machine is 772-7-7-4-5-25-4 in this edition sponsored by the T.J. Smith Law Office. If you call, T.J. will make them pay. I'm at KS. Bar with Drew. Ryan is outside in the rain. He has already taken off to go towards Clark's Pump and Shop. Let me give you a little background, okay? So, Drew, if you remember a few weeks ago,
Starting point is 00:03:01 I was doing an ad read, and Clark's Pumping Shop said in their ad read that they had a new store on Lucille. I remember they will. And Ryan, Shannon, was adamant they did not. Just looking at the people who owned the building and telling them they were wrong. And the people that wrote the copy said they don't know what they're talking about. The people that wrote the copy is real bad at the copyright. For people that wrote the copy and presumably Clark's Pumping Shop. And, you know, I get accused on this show sometimes, Shannon, of saying I know more than the internet.
Starting point is 00:03:31 Things like that. But Ryan believed he knew more about these people's business than they did. Than the business themselves. He thought they didn't know their own address. He thought they didn't know their own place. So, of course, he was wrong. So we agreed to make it up to him since he defamed their name. He would walk there during the show.
Starting point is 00:03:53 Now, I randomly picked a date. You know, Shannon, I can't see the future. I don't know what the weather's going to be. I just randomly picked a date. Like, you never know what God is going to shine down on his people. Exactly. Right. Well, we picked today.
Starting point is 00:04:10 It's 6.30 this morning, and I know you're in Louisville, Shannon, but at 6.30 this morning, I heard the loudest crack of thunder that has ever existed in human life. Same. Same. It broke the world record for loudest thunder. Did you know that? I heard it too. I thought we had been visited from other worlds.
Starting point is 00:04:27 It was so long. I don't think I've ever woken up by thunder. It was the loudest thunder that's ever existed. There were dogs barking, alarms going off. It was crazy. I thought the aliens had finally come. And the rain that came down was torrential. Would you agree with that?
Starting point is 00:04:47 Yeah, it sounded like hell at my house. It was some loud noises. So I thought, perfect. It's exactly what Ryan needs. And he was depressed. he said he almost didn't even come today because he was so depressed. But he came and it is a two hour and 15 minute walk. So he left during the pre-show.
Starting point is 00:05:08 Three people, Shannon, showed up to walk in this weather with him, which is pretty amazing. That's awesome. He's got a good support group with him. He's got three people walking. So he has decided to take off, for those of you in Lexington, he left the bar. He's going down Red Mile all the way around to Forbes, which will take him to Leaves Town and then to Lucille. So if you drive by him, you can see him.
Starting point is 00:05:31 At this moment, it is not raining. It actually stopped raining like minutes before he was going to take off. And looking at the radar, Shannon, it looks like he's going to be all right. It looks like if we had done this two hours earlier, it would have been the most miserable experience of his life, but he might be getting by. I don't know what you're looking at, but I'm looking at the weather app on my phone. And it says 11 a.m. Lexington, 100% chance of rain. Oh, that's not on there. 11 a.m?
Starting point is 00:06:00 Billy headed the radar out and it was not. You have an iPhone just like I do. Pull up your weather app. Pull up Lexington. And look right now it says, at least on my phone, 100% of rain 11 a.m. What do you see? I'll check the exact area. I see.
Starting point is 00:06:17 I see it looks like, okay, it may say that. It's 17%. All right. It's going to be fine. So we will check. We're going to check in with Ryan, but if you're in Lexington, you want to drive and say how you can. And then when he gets there at noon, the first 50 people that come get a free drink. They're giving away a $100 gift card.
Starting point is 00:06:39 There are seven UK athletes going to be there, including our new running back. Oh, no, I didn't know he was going to be there. What's his name? Chip. Chip McElroy. I don't think it's Chip McElroy. Chip Beck. I don't know the correct.
Starting point is 00:06:55 But it's training them, training, full calm chip. Okay, yes. Chip Carey. It's one of those. He is out there. He'll be out there as well. And you can not only say hi to Ryan, but you can get free things. They're literally giving away money at noon on Lucille Drive.
Starting point is 00:07:14 I'm stunned. I learned as the music was playing to start the show, I turned to Billy because I watched Ryan walk off into the, just disappear. He didn't take an umbrella? I mean, 17% is still 17%. Why didn't he take an umbrella? He wore a poncho, but is he not worried about, like... I have a huge umbrella in my car. To be fair, the three people that went with him didn't take an umbrella.
Starting point is 00:07:35 That seems like a bad idea. Jill did? Okay, so now Jill, you may remember, Shannon, when you did your walk. Yeah. Jill was the lady who carried our equipment. Can't believe you all did that. To be clear, our radio equipment. She carried our radio equipment, Drew and I on our walk.
Starting point is 00:07:51 If you remember, for Shannon, she carried it, and now she offered... to walk with Ryan. So that's clearly a woman who likes to walk. And now that I know she has a sole possession of an umbrella, I fully expect Ryan to use it once it starts pouring, and Jill will walk in the rain. Oh, she'll be holding it all, him. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:07 Yes. So I'm proud of him for doing this. Like I said, we will check him with him at 10.30, but not the best weather he could have gotten. No, but it is a good exercise because looking at the map, just so people know, the new Clark's location is so close to Ryan's house. like the fact that he didn't know about it he could walk from his bed to
Starting point is 00:08:28 Clark's back to bed and back to Clarks and the amount of time it will take him to walk from here to there so it's not like this was on the other side of Fayette County and he got it wrong he literally probably drives by it's a couple it's a probably driver three wood maybe another wedge to hit one of the gas punch driver three woods he needed this
Starting point is 00:08:47 all right so we will we will check it with him and we wish him the best and thanks to the three people who came I think he thought he was going to have to do it by himself I think he was a little worried about being lonely. And now there's three people who've joined him as well. It's in Mother Nature's hands now. That's right. Now, Kentucky plays Mississippi State tonight.
Starting point is 00:09:03 I just looked a minute ago. We're now a three and a half point underdog. I've heard reports of four and a half now that it's just moving the other way in a hurry. All the money is on Mississippi State. They sold out their arena. They're having, here's a shock, a t-shirt game, a whiteout. They are probably in the tournament right now either way. But this would like lock it in if they won this.
Starting point is 00:09:26 This would basically be there. We're going to make the NCAA tournament. There was a website down there that said their biggest game at Mississippi State in 10 years. Biggest game in 10 years in Starkville. If they're going to have courtstorming rules, Shannon, if they won, this would be a time to test it. Honestly, all of college basketball might be watching tonight if it were to happen. Just trap them on the floor like Billis wants them to do. Billis wants to put them all in jail.
Starting point is 00:09:54 I don't know how big the jails are, Billis thinks are in Winston-Salem, but I don't think they're big enough to do what he wants to do. But nevertheless, it's ESPN, it's Mississippi State's only ESPN primetime game all year. So there's all these things that they have happening right now that they never would have otherwise. And then you have us, seven and the last eight halves we've played have been very good, probably the only bad one was at LSU. I thought we'd be a slight underdog. I'm kind of shocked all the money is going to Mississippi State.
Starting point is 00:10:29 I feel like we're going to win. And I actually feel more comfortable about it than I did a week and a half ago because we lost to LSU. Am I wrong? I don't think so. I feel good about it. I'm not expecting it to where if they were to lose a close game. I'm going to be all upset and mad and worry that the sky is falling
Starting point is 00:10:47 because this is going to be a very tough matchup, very tough atmosphere. I know Kentucky was up by like 18 at halftime against Mississippi State and Lexington. Love to see that again, but I don't think we can expect the blowout that they had in that game. Tolu Smith was crazy in Rupp Arena too. Obviously didn't impact the outcome, but he'll be another problem for them tonight. We'll just see how that goes. But I like Kentucky, and I was going to bet it this morning and then saw it kind of move a little bit toward Mississippi State.
Starting point is 00:11:13 Now I'm wondering how long we wait to get the most bang for our buck, because it is odd that it's most early money went on the Bulldogs. Do you, so Mississippi State, we've already played them this year, right? And they actually played us pretty well at home. I mean, they stayed in it. We were, I think. We were a big at half. They had a little second half run. Tolu Smith has done great against us over the years.
Starting point is 00:11:34 But here was this thing I was shocked about. Did you know Calipari's only lost to Mississippi State once? I think I saw that stat the last time they came here, but it was crazy. I mean, they've had some good teams, and that's a tough place. We have, the only time we ever lost to them for people that remember was in the tournament the COVID year. And even that year, we almost beat them. Dante Allen, remember, hit all those shots at the end to make it.
Starting point is 00:11:57 We haven't lost a game there since 2008. Another reason to feel good about tonight. But I always think of Mississippi State as like, well, this is a tough place to play. They'll grind you out. It'll come down the last possession. Ben Howland was the coach there for a while. It's kind of amazing that we've sort of owned them, haven't we? Yeah, I guess it all started with Boogie's tip-in and Cal's first year.
Starting point is 00:12:21 And then we played them. That really set the tone still in that SEC turn. The Cal-Me game was the original. The regular season, and then the tip-in was during the SEC tournament. So maybe Boogie just set the tone early. Like, this school is not going to be a problem. I would think that's probably Cal's best record against any SEC school, wouldn't you think? If he's only lost one time, I wouldn't think.
Starting point is 00:12:47 I mean, just thinking about the other teams, I feel like I remember us losing. Have we lost to Ole Miss? They've played us very close. We maybe have never lost to them. They almost took down the Carl Towns team in Rupp Arena. Well, yes, but they didn't win. Dribbled off the foot. Shannon, we must just own Mississippi.
Starting point is 00:13:07 Like, M.I. Crooked Letter. We lost their. Oh, just two years ago. Yeah, I'm trying to remember. I know there was an overtime game at Rupp Arena. We lost, did we lose? Did we lose the COVID year? Cal's got two losses there.
Starting point is 00:13:19 Two losses. So this is probably the team that Cal has the best record against, other than any SEC team. And it's weird we play them twice this year. Do you think this game is important? Like, I mean, on one level, it's important because you want to win every game. But we got Bandy and Arkansas coming up next. The 10 at home, the Tennessee game is going to be huge just because it's Tennessee.
Starting point is 00:13:43 Do you think this game is important beyond? just any other. I think so because if you lose this one and then don't win at Tennessee then a six seat's probably in play. You really don't want that. I mean, Vandy and Arkansas you should be fine. Even those are two
Starting point is 00:14:00 tough games. I worry two more losses what that could do to the resume. And I really don't want that Thursday game. Well, yeah, well, okay, so that's where it would matter. If you want to not play on Thursday, you've got to win this game. And that's not really the end of the world. You'll be playing a team you should
Starting point is 00:14:16 have no problem with. It's just if you want to win it or play on Sunday, you've now played four days in a row, then you're starting your tournament run where our expectations are we want at least five in a row. Yeah, I mean, this is. So it'd be a lot to ask of a team. I think that's the best way to put it. This is a don't play on Thursday. If you want to not play on Thursday, you have to win tonight. You lose tonight, you're playing on Thursday. Absent something crazy happening. So, and even if you win tonight, you might be playing on Thursday. You still need South Carolina to lose. You still need some stuff to happen. But if you lose tonight, you're almost certainly playing on Thursday. So really, what you might say to John Calpary is this is a,
Starting point is 00:14:59 I know you don't like the SEC tournament. If you don't want to have to play four games, this is the game you need to win. Yeah. And in the big picture, you have this in Tennessee, but you won't see these atmospheres again. This rowdy, white out, fans on top of you. That's true. After you do it one more time in Knoxville, you're done with that. You're going to be blue in Nashville. And it won't be the same in Knoxville. I mean, in Knoxville, they're good enough that they don't, like, Knoxville has big games.
Starting point is 00:15:24 And that place isn't threatening. It's real big. It's got the Rupp issue, which is so big it makes it. This is the last time you'll have one of these. These sort of going into a little cracker jack box and everybody's losing their mind because they're going to basketball once a year. And you're the better team, but the atmosphere is so much. it's a problem.
Starting point is 00:15:45 That's a good way to think. This is the last time that they'll do this, and it'd be nice to go out of one of those with a victory. Because really this year, we won at Auburn. Probably the hardest of them. But we've lost the other ones, which is kind of weird. Yeah, I guess you got Florida on the road. But no one, they didn't have that one, they weren't really rolling.
Starting point is 00:16:06 No, it was the game. So I think this is the... I guess you can count Vandy in Arkansas. I mean, those were road wins, but those are pretty bad teams. I can count Vandy, that atmosphere. now is nothing, unfortunately, for Shannon. 859-2-80-2287. We will take your call.
Starting point is 00:16:22 Shannon, we'll do a 30-second shot clock. We'll check in with Ryan and get you ready. It is Katz and Mississippi State tonight. Ryan Lemon on the road to Clark's Pump and Shop. We'll be right back. It's Kentucky Sports Radio. To talk to Matt Jones and the crew, call the Clark's Pump and Shop phone line at 859-280-2287
Starting point is 00:16:39 or 1-800-606-4-2-63. and send us the Kentucky brand of the day by tweeting Matt at KY Sports Radio. I'll never hear that name, Shannon, again, without thinking of this song, Lucille. Yeah, or a Clark's Puppen Shop. I mean, yeah, I mean, like Lucille is the, you know, it's the, it's the song for, that name is tied into Kenny Rogers and Clark's. And it's also the song for the name Lucille. That's exactly right, forever.
Starting point is 00:17:11 859-280-2287. All right, so we're going to check in here with Ryan. He's on the phone. Ryan, where are you right now? We are on Red Mile Road, where it goes downhill towards Oak Lake the Pike, right at the railroad track. So we just crossed for sales road. I thought I've already seen you. We have a delay here, so I might have to figure out how to navigate this.
Starting point is 00:17:39 But we saw you and you were right. walking in the middle of the road. Why aren't you? I thought the whole point of going the direction you're going is because you were going to go on the sidewalk. Yeah, we haven't been in the middle of the road. We've been on the side the whole time, but right now, there's a little strict. There's not a sidewalk, so we're walking in the grass until we get down to Old Frankfurt Pike.
Starting point is 00:18:05 Well, all right. So do you have the three of you all as it rained yet? You know, God must be a KSR fan because it stopped raining as soon as we started walking. I got to tell you this, though, just tweet us. Jill and Daniel are like sprinting. They're like walking way too fast for me. Tristan and I are like way in the back. I can't walk that fast. You're setting the
Starting point is 00:18:25 pace for you, Ryan. You've got to keep up. Well, that's what they're a trotter. That's what they they're the speed horse that gets out there. And now you need to catch up. I've had three people send me pictures of you. Has anyone honked at
Starting point is 00:18:41 you? We've got ten honks. We're going to count them. We're only at ten honks right I thought we might be a little more, but we won't get a lot more when we get on Leeds Town Road. And that's what we have to stop for a donut. Well, all right. Enjoy getting your stop for a donut. Keep your walk ahead and be careful. Do not get hit, okay?
Starting point is 00:19:02 All right. All right. We will try to keep getting it. Love you mean it. Oh, there's number 11. No, number 12. All right. Okay, thank you very much.
Starting point is 00:19:11 I appreciate it. I kind of want to change my prediction. If he's already complaining about the pace, he's already planning on stopping you at a donut. I don't think it makes it by 12. I had full belief in him until that interview. Yeah, it is, I hope he may get there very early with the way he's going. Shannon, just so you know, so here's, again, technology. They came over here. They said, Daniel said he had fixed it, he put on a new thing, and now we have a really big delay.
Starting point is 00:19:40 So when you, Shannon, you're just going to have to probably lay off until we fix it. When we have a caller, do me a favor. When I go, to you, just talk. Don't ask me how I'm doing, just talk, because it's the only way that we're going to be able to do it. Before I do that, did you see that the commissioner
Starting point is 00:19:58 of Alabama, excuse me, the AD of Alabama said that he believes when people storm the court, if you want to end it, you make the home team forfeit the game. What do you think about that? That is absolute crazy. I saw a few just people on Twitter suggest
Starting point is 00:20:14 that. The fact that the Someone with the position of 80 in Alabama thinks that works. It's insanity. I was shocked how many people were in my mentions agreeing with it. Like, that's the dumbest excuse I've ever heard. I know Cameron Mills said it. I like Cameron Mills. In 1998, you hit one of the biggest shots of all time.
Starting point is 00:20:32 That is the dumbest decision. First of all, how do you know the people that storm the court are even a fan of the team? Right? Like, wouldn't you, if you were a Kentucky fan, go to Mississippi State. if you lose, run on the floor and then Kentucky wins the game? Yeah, I didn't hear a camera and say, but I would think as a player, just anyone, you've put in all this work, you just played 40 minutes and won a game, you're going to let a fan that ran on the court take that away from you?
Starting point is 00:20:59 I don't think the player should be punished for this whatsoever. I don't understand how people can think that's correct. And then Jay Billis said put them all in jail. That was the wildest. How big does he think these jails are? in Winston St. Like, just literally think about if they had taken all those people at Wake Forest and put them all in jail. Like put everyone.
Starting point is 00:21:23 First of all, do you even have that many police cars? You have to come in with the zip ties and the riot gear, get everybody corralled up. How many vans could they possibly have? That would be, you'd be putting 2,000 people in jail. They'd be still processing those people right now. Jay Billis is a lawyer, Drew. Like, he's got to know better than that. You know, it's sort of like saying, I had a bunch of people write me and go, well, Matt, if you forfeited the game or put them in jail, it wouldn't happen.
Starting point is 00:21:53 Well, I'll tell you another way to stop it would be if you just shot them all. Barde wire around the court. I mean, if you just said, okay, if you run on the court, you will be publicly executed. Snipers on the roof. That will stop it, but isn't that a little bit much for what I feel the same way about this? Like, come on now. have some perspective. And by the way,
Starting point is 00:22:14 Philopowski's okay. So while I still think they got to find a way to protect these players, this all of a sudden draconium make them fight in the military if they run out there, Drew, seems like a little much. It's like everyone saw that Duke video,
Starting point is 00:22:28 and most people agree, maybe everyone agrees something should be changed, but people just went completely crazy with their solutions. Like next one, you want to moat with lava around the court where nobody can get to it? Like, everybody's just making ridiculous stuff to stop it. And while I do think,
Starting point is 00:22:41 While I do think this is like a serious issue, people are treating it like the Israel-Palestine issue right now. Like it's like people are making it unbelievable, like how big a deal it is. And I do think while it's something you need to fix, it seems to be people are going just a little overboard. And in both cases, Kael and Clark didn't get hurt. And then they didn't even do any x-rays or MRIs on Kopposki. Apparently he's fine. They said they said they don't have. even need to do tests. He's so fine. So, I don't know. I mean, it's a great tradition that I would
Starting point is 00:23:17 hate to see run by. And again, I'm someone who likes Joe, Jay Billis, but I feel like as he gets older, he becomes more and more curmudgeon. He is 10 years from putting on sunglasses, writing me in my mentions and saying stick to sports. It's coming with Jay Billis. There's already another announcer that does it now. I'm not going to say who it is, but there's already another announcer who he doesn't do it publicly, but privately, he's like, yelling at me all the time. I feel like we're not far from that from Jay Bill. This has made people lose their mind.
Starting point is 00:23:46 The forfeiting, if you're in a position that you can make decisions and that's one of your options you're considering that's nuts. Who's up first, Shannon? Donnie. Donnie, go ahead, Donnie. Hey, thanks for taking my cough. I'm just coming up with these minutes numbers here. I know you know more about this than I do.
Starting point is 00:24:06 We're not going to play defense. Let's just throw that out. So what that means to me as a fan, we maximize our offense. To do that, we have to play Reeves, Shepherd, and Beillingham. I'm thinking 30 to 35 minutes a game to win. Or we could throw in Waxham with that punch. Shannon? Do you do you?
Starting point is 00:24:36 Oh, I forgot we're doing the shot clock today. Oh, see, this is what happens if you don't have the shot clock. not clock hard first of all i agree with you to me and i appreciate to call reeves should play 35 minutes a game shepherd and dillingham probably 30 to 33 minutes a game wagner 20 to 25 and then everybody else it depends on the game t j smith personal injury attorney call tj'll make them pay now more of kentucky sports radio presented by stockton mortgage here's matt jones welcome back tucky sports radio. 559-28027.
Starting point is 00:25:11 Ryan is out walking on his way to Clark's puppet shop. Before we go to the phones and Shannon does have the shot clock ready now. Did you see UMass joined the Mac? Oh, I did not. I'll have to add that to my ongoing conference. When you think mid-American conference,
Starting point is 00:25:30 you certainly think UMass. You know, I kind of forget UMass exists in athletics and then I think Macchin is, you know, But, you know, they could win in basketball, they could win that league like every year. Like a UMass Youngstown championship game, doesn't that just feel weird, though? Yeah, but I'm thinking football, it's not going to make a big difference. I'm going to make a big difference.
Starting point is 00:25:51 I'm going to basketball too. But in basketball, Youngstown State sinks in basketball most years. But usually the team is like Akron or Ohio, and UMass, if they were to build their program up, could, like, that's a point. You know, I mean, UMass, with the Final Four, Julius Irving. been played there? Like, they could get to a point where they could win that league regularly. That's why it's so weird to me, though.
Starting point is 00:26:16 Because they're, I mean, they're doing it for football. They're an independent in football, so they had nowhere to play. So they had to find a football conference, and the Mac basically said, if you want to play in our conference, you have to also play in basketball. So they're leaving the Atlantic 10, which is a pretty good league, to go and play in the Mac and to play against all these Ohio schools. It's just odd. It's weird.
Starting point is 00:26:38 The Mac may be more than any league in the country. I just have this perception. It's just people that just got off work at the body shop. The school is pride directional. Yeah. And, you know, they're big on football midweek. UMass just doesn't even fit that brand of the Mac. I feel like almost every school in the Mac is in Ohio.
Starting point is 00:26:55 Yeah. And yet now they've had Buffalo for a while. And now they get UMass. I do wonder what Cal would think of that. You know, I mean, Cal started at UMass and was playing against Temple, and he was playing against. Memphis and he's playing against all these schools. And now, I mean, imagine if he was at UMass now and he's going to Akron and he's going to
Starting point is 00:27:14 Toledo and he's going to Northern Illinois. Like, I just don't think, if you're only thinking about basketball, I just think that's an unbelievably weird thing. Think about his statue with all the Mac trophies and banners around it decades from now. And all the Massachusetts people, are they making those road trips? None of them are going to make those road trips. I think it'll also hurt them for their home. home games. I mean, are people going to want, if you're in Massachusetts, are you going to be
Starting point is 00:27:43 excited when Eastern Michigan comes to town or Western Michigan? Very few times do I see a team make a move that it feels like they're going down. Now, I understand why they do it. They don't have a conference in football, so they almost didn't have a choice. But for basketball, most of the times when people move a conference, they're going to games that on paper will be more whatever for their fans. This feels like one where they're going to games where they will be significantly less interesting for all the people that follow.
Starting point is 00:28:15 With UMass, you think they want to go back to the 90s and have a little problem with that era. They're going in the wrong direction. That feels like to me they're going in completely the wrong direction. Maybe they're leaning into football. Maybe so. 859-280-2287. All right, Shannon, let's go. Chris.
Starting point is 00:28:28 Chris, go ahead. Hey, guys. Number one, God is definitely a KSR fan. number two, I think tonight's game is huge if we win, because obviously we can run the teams that like to run out of the gym, but if we go down there in this hostile environment and this young team gets it together and pulls it out, I think we'll look back and say that was the game that projected us.
Starting point is 00:28:58 I actually don't disagree with him. I mean, it sounds weird to say, this game's big if we win and it doesn't matter if we lose. But I actually don't disagree with him. I mean, I think it, like I said, it matters in the sense you'd be a Thursday, have to play a Thursday game. But I do think that like winning, you would kind of get the last one of the big road wins.
Starting point is 00:29:18 Because, again, I consider Tennessee different. They're a really good team. Like you could lose to them no matter what. I think this would be a good way to end. And if you lose, now if we get blown out or if we lose because we throw a lob to a do or something like that, different. But if we just lose a game, I don't know that it's going to be a huge deal one way or the other. I agree, as long as it's close and, you know, say Toulouse Smith just has a big game and you lose a
Starting point is 00:29:45 tight one in the last minute without dribbling off your foot or something crazy. Yeah, I mean, you lose in Stargville. It's crazy knowing you don't lose the Mississippi State but once in Cal's whole era, but this is a tough. And everyone, five games in a row. This is a tough spot. It's so strange to me that we haven't lost to them because in my mind, I think, boy, they always There was a stretch until Bruce Pearl got to Auburn. Why don't think Auburn beat Kentucky for like generations of families? There was and there was a stretch with Old Miss. I mean, Old Miss, I think, well, I think there were two stretches.
Starting point is 00:30:17 I think at 98, Old Miss beat us on like senior day, and it was the first time they beat us in like 45 years. And then I think they went a long time again without having beat us. I think Old Miss is the team we have the best record against historically in the SEC. But I just, I'm surprised it's Mississippi State with Cal because I've always thought of those games as being battles, but maybe we've just come out on top in almost all of them. Who's next year? Johnny Versace. Johnny Versace.
Starting point is 00:30:45 Johnny Versace, 30 seconds. Go ahead. Matt, we're back and I want a revenge tour the rest of the year. We're going to get Tennessee. I want South Carolina, LSU, Florida, and the SEC tournament. And then I want Wisconsin, Yukon, St. Peters, Kansas, Texas. I want them all in the NCAA tournament. Well, okay.
Starting point is 00:31:10 I mean, yeah, I mean, I don't think we're going to get St. Peters, but you might get Wisconsin. I'll take some of them. I don't know that I'd want Yukon at the moment. Yeah, I think. I wouldn't run from them, but I'm not going to pick them out of a crowd. I agree with you. Right now, our SEC tournament bracket would be if it started today, we play on Thursday at 3.30 against Georgia. Would you like our chances in that one?
Starting point is 00:31:32 I do like that if you are on a Thursday, if it's the afternoon spot, you're then the afternoon spot the next day, then the next day, the play at nine at night, you can't be six. You're out of the arena at midnight, then you're up playing the next day. If you're the five seed, you play at 3.30. If you're the six seed, you play at 9.30. And I actually think that's a huge difference. Especially as you're winning, you get, you're just the late game the rest of the way. But you would open with Georgia.
Starting point is 00:31:59 Then the next round, you'd get South Carolina. I think Kentucky would love that, right? And then in the semifinals, you get Alabama. So you would avoid the teams that I actually think give Kentucky the most. I mean, if you said to me, Matt, you beat Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama to go to the SEC championship game. Wouldn't we all take that right now? Yeah, especially after what we just saw in the Alabama game. I don't think, I mean, South Carolina is good.
Starting point is 00:32:25 You're not losing that one about 17 or whatever it was again. So I wouldn't run from them. Georgia shouldn't be an issue. it's just having to play that extra game. I know they're kids and it's not that big of a deal, but if you could avoid it, I'm still hoping they can do that. That starts to win tonight.
Starting point is 00:32:38 It feels like you can win the SEC tournament from Thursday. It feels really hard to win the SEC tournament from Thursday at 930 at night. That to me feels much more difficult. Who's next year? Corey. Corey, go ahead, Corey. Hey, gentlemen.
Starting point is 00:32:57 Yeah, I have a good disparaging. Mississippi song by steel drivers. I believe Chris Stapleton was part of them at the time. It's called Ghost of Mississippi if you guys would want to play that. I think we win by eight. And this team is good on the road. And I think Reeves going to go for 33. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:33:18 I feel like the Moneyline Kentucky bet tonight is really, really good. Because what are you going to get at like plus 140 plus 150 to win? I am going to spend $10 at KSpar. I'm going to use the Draft King's promo to get 100% to double the money lines. That's right. And then I'm going to throw in a player prop I haven't picked yet to really get some nice odds there. Plus one, I mean, getting Kentucky plus money to win against a team that they're clearly better than is a rarity. You don't get that a lot.
Starting point is 00:33:52 And you can have that tonight. I mean, I don't know how you can't do that because. I mean, yes, we could lose. But you're going to give me plus odds to win a game against a team we've already beaten that I know we're better than. And even if you're cautious, just get a little of that getting four and a half points. Even if they were to lose, I think it's going to be in a close game. I don't Mississippi State. They're slow.
Starting point is 00:34:17 They play defense. I don't see Kentucky getting blown out. I don't either. If you can find it at four and a half, three and a half, you can lose and still cover that. I'm just really surprised by that. I mean, maybe I shouldn't be, but I feel like, now they have one final five in a row, Mississippi State. What if I told you those five teams are the last five in the conference in order? Even Vandy, Arkansas, LSU, Georgia, and I believe Ole Miss.
Starting point is 00:34:43 They just, they played the bottom five in a row. And that's who they beat? Yep. So these, the numbers that the odds makers are using could be skewed a little with that win streak. Huh. They're hot, but they're hot against those teams. Hot against the bad teams. All right.
Starting point is 00:34:56 Fair enough. 859-280-2287. Shannon, did you send me the... Yeah. There we go. All right, so let's see what we got. We got Draft Kings. How about it?
Starting point is 00:35:07 You want to make that bet at Draft Kings? Then you should do it. I'm going to do it. You're going to do it? And like, maybe this break. All right. College basketball is going now, and on Draft King's new customers can deposit $5. You can get a no-s-wet bet up to $1,000 in a bonus bet.
Starting point is 00:35:25 Free money. $1,000, Shannon. on cats plus 140. What do you think? Let's do it. Throw it down. You get it right back if we lose, right? So why not? You get to bonus bet back in the amount of your original bet if your first bet doesn't hit. If you've
Starting point is 00:35:38 never tried Draft Kings, I know most of you have, but if you never have, go to Draft Kings. The promo code is KSR. Remember, gambling problem. You call 1-800 gambler. 18 plus physically present in Kentucky. One no sweat bet per customer issued as one bonus bet based on the amount of initial losing bet. Starting point is 00:35:54 Deposit wager and eligibility or six-supply. Sportsbook.draftkings.com slash promos. I have to tell you, this stat real quick about draft kings, this stat about Kentucky winning the national championship is crazy. 25% of the money bet on draft kings and 18% of the bets on who wins the national championship are on Kentucky. Wow. It's a big percentage for-
Starting point is 00:36:20 Shannon, that's insane. 25% of the money in the country on draft kings is on Kentucky. That is crazy. And they're plus $2,200. I'm part of it. You know what I did this morning? Yeah, I am. You know what I did this morning when that thunder woke me up?
Starting point is 00:36:36 I bet on Kentucky to make the final four. I did this at about 6 a.m. and then did that 22 to 1 championship you're talking about. That's what I was doing when I couldn't sleep this morning. Let me take folks what that really means. If it's plus $2,200 and 25% of the money is on, that says that the state of Kentucky is, draft kings is dominating the state of Kentucky that's what it says i mean our entire fan base
Starting point is 00:36:59 is betting on Kentucky on that app it also says uh if Kentucky wins the title that Boston headquarters might be a trailer no serious draft kings is not going to be rooting for us no i mean that because they are they are looking at a big yeah those numbers you just those numbers are true they're look i mean on futures you can't even it out like you can on even games so they're looking at a We need to make Draft King sad and go win the national championship. We'll take a break. Be right back. It's Kentucky Sports Radio.
Starting point is 00:37:30 To talk to Matt Jones and the crew, call the Clark's Pump and Shop phone line at 859-28027 or 1-800-606-4263 and send us the Kentucky branded tweet of the day by tweeting Matt at KY Sports Radio. Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio. 859-2-80-2287. Text machine 772-7-7-75-25-24. five, four, a couple questions coming in. One person writes, Matt, what do you think about LeBron
Starting point is 00:37:57 telling everybody to stop talking about the draft status of brawny? He brought it on himself. Absolutely. I like LeBron, but LeBron now getting outraged that people are talking about brawny not being dragged. You brought it. LeBron did all of that.
Starting point is 00:38:12 I said this three years ago. You're not being fair to your kid because your kid's not as good. And LeBron sit there saying, yeah, I'm going to play with him when he's a one and, like, your kid isn't that good. And by doing that, and it's unfortunate, his kid had the health issue, because that didn't help.
Starting point is 00:38:31 He would have been better this year had he not had that. But he was never first round talent. Now, they might have picked him because of his dad. But now he's not projected to be drafted at all, and LeBron's mad at people saying that. But two things.
Starting point is 00:38:47 First of all, you did it. And secondly, if his name was not LeBronny James and he dropped out of the draft, they would still say it, right? Like, that's what these draft projections are supposed to do. Your kid doesn't get like a special don't say he dropped in the draft thing. So it's, I like LeBron. I think a lot of LeBron haters go overboard, but this one's on him, Drew.
Starting point is 00:39:10 You should have never put that pressure on your kid to begin with. Yeah, it was awkward when he was saying, I can't, or I'm going to play with my son, this and that, and then we would watch his son and he's good, but you weren't like, well, that's the best player on the court. He was the fourth best player on his high school team. So it was weird when he was saying that, so now it's just what kind of what we expected. This is exactly what you expect. He's a normal college freshman just playing basketball. He'll probably be better next year.
Starting point is 00:39:33 Who knows what will happen? But like he wants everybody to not talk about his son. You made this happen. When Michael Jordan's kid went to college, nobody was saying he was going to be a first-round pick because he wasn't that good. And Michael Jordan didn't go around going, I'm going to play with my kid. it's a good point you did this not him and so i i actually i always thought he was wrong to put that pressure on his kid but like when people are dads that's just what they do now shannon did you see the rob dillingham reed shepherd denadoes commercial yes i watched it during the break
Starting point is 00:40:12 it's quite a commercial first of all i love it because clearly it works if you're denados You got people talking about it. It does look Shannon a little bit like a hostage situation. A little one, yeah. Is that like AI? It looks like, first of all, the background, it looks like they're in an elevator. Secondly, it looks like Reed Shepherd is like been mowing his grass or something with that t-shirt he has.
Starting point is 00:40:42 You don't think he's reading off the script, do you maybe? I mean, I can't tell. That's the t-shirt you clean your garage with. No, with that said, I am going to say. Reed Shepherd says he wants a hot honey pizza with banana peppers. That actually sounds great. You know what I mean? I didn't know that was a thing that I didn't know they had a hot honey pizza.
Starting point is 00:41:02 That sounds great. After watching it last night, it being all over Twitter, our message board, I swear to you this morning I woke up and thought, I'm getting Donato's today. Hot honey pizza. I'm at least one person it's going to work on. See, I would argue, Shannon. I mean, listen, I love Rob Dillingham and Reed Shepard. That's a pretty terrible commercial.
Starting point is 00:41:21 But I will say, Shannon, I think it works. Because now, I mean, if they had just done a regular commercial... Would have scrolled right past. Scrolled right past. Exactly. But the fact that it looks like a hostage situation... I think actually makes it work well. I've always had this philosophy on commercials.
Starting point is 00:41:39 They need to be either really, really good or really bad. Anything in the middle gets lost in the mix and the shuffle. But if it's really good or really bad, people are going to be talking about it. Either way, they're talking about the process. is what works. I don't think either one of them has a future in an Oscar winning film. They're young, they're learning. They're learning.
Starting point is 00:41:58 I'm not saying they can't get there. You know, I saw Shannon's early promos in OVW. They got a lot better. But I will say, it did work. I thought hot honey and banana pepper pizza. I can't wait. I like Rob's. He's a pepperoni guy, but then he goes, so you should get that.
Starting point is 00:42:17 I also like he's going off script. You're going to do the. Rob Dillingham special, pepperoni. No one's ever done that before. No one's ever done. I mean, hot honey and banana pepper is a very unique thing. Rob Dillingham's like, and the Rob is pepperoni. Get that pepollies.
Starting point is 00:42:35 Good pepperoni. Yes. He knows what he's doing. He knows what he's doing. Who's next? Lenny Bluebeard. Lenny Bluebeard, 30 seconds. Go ahead.
Starting point is 00:42:44 What's up, my guys? Let's want to say, take that Kentucky in the plus Monday tonight, I definitely think they're going to beat the, they're going to beat the Mississippi State very bad. And also, what are the chances with four games that we win the SEC? All right. So I still, I'm going to go like, I'm going out on limb. I think Kentucky wins the SEC tournament.
Starting point is 00:43:11 I'm picking Kentucky to win the SEC tournament unless we're a 60. Okay. If we are a one through five, I'm picking Kentucky to win the tournament in Nashville. If we're a six, I just don't think you can win 930, 934 and then win. So that's my take. What about you? We're winning it if we get to double by. Play three games, get out of there, get serious about the Instaulay tournament.
Starting point is 00:43:36 If we're there with his logos that always play on Wednesday, Thursday, the mood just won't be right. The fan base will think it's weird and the extra game. I don't think they'll get all the way through it. Yeah. So I do like us, though, in the tournament. I think we're, I think the SEC tournament, I think we're going to have so many UK fans there. Because we have not had an SEC tournament the way Kentucky fans like to do it.
Starting point is 00:44:01 We have not had that since 2019. We really haven't had one where we're all into it. That one year we were pretty good, but then we lost in the first to second round Tennessee. It was in Tampa. We're there for like a night. This is the first time we've had. So I think it's going to be a great atmosphere down there. air, and that's why I think we're going to win it.
