Starting point is 00:02:53 Lockridge Park in Garrett County. There you go. Those dudes, my man in the OCWA sweatshirt back there. getting loud, rowdy. What's OCWA or G.CW. Garrett County Water? You're not on the clock, are you? Okay.
Starting point is 00:03:11 I didn't want to call you out if it was Garrett County Water Administration. We are here in Lockridge Park, and a place you can have, the Rick House Event Center. They got glamorous camping, which they call glamping. Very cool place. Another example of how there's stuff in Kentucky you can do,
Starting point is 00:03:29 overlooking Lake. Harrington peaceful, awesome setup here. Thank you all the folks who are here. At KY Sports Radio 859-280-2287 Syndicate, who calls the show a lot you hear is over there making barbecue, and it is really good. Dunn's barbecue. His name is Syndicate Dunn,
Starting point is 00:03:47 and he's got it going over there with the barbecue. It's called It's not barbecue unless it's done, which I think is a good slogan. It's very, very good. We've been sampling it during the break, and I would highly suggest it. A couple things. First of all.
Starting point is 00:04:00 So, you know, I put out a little tweet yesterday, Ryan, at 8 in the morning, that's just highlights of the dude from Indiana State, you know, playing. I say, I just, I thought we all knew, like we're all friends, Cream Abdul-Jabbar's what we called him. Kreme Abdul-Jabbar scores 35 points. It ended up last night. It now has 17 and a half million views. It has 45,000 likes.
Starting point is 00:04:26 It's got like 9,000 or 6,000 retweets. Like, it's literally, it's literally the second most red tweet I've ever had in my life. The first one is a video I posted of January 6th, which still gets, which was just a random post that still gets brought up. But now, my little tweet that just said Cream Abdul-Jabbar is, as everywhere, it's been used like on highlight packages. People are acting like I gave him the name, just for the record. I did not give him the name. It was in the comment section of one of my posts one time. But I guess I'll take credit for it, even though I didn't come up with it.
Starting point is 00:05:03 I will say, I heard another good one, though, in my comment section I thought you would like, Shannon. Dort Novitsky. Oh, that's good, too. I like that one. I still think Larry Nerds the best. But, yeah, those are some good names for them. I'm pretty partial to Kreme Abdul-Jarbar. But now, what's funny is I've been doing this for 15 years on Twitter, 14 years on Twitter, tweeted about all kinds of different stuff, and my two,
Starting point is 00:05:30 by far biggest tweets don't have anything to do with Kentucky now. And Cream Abdul-Jabbar forever will be my at least second. I don't think it's going to catch up to the first one, but it'll be the second. I'm kind of glad because people need to know who this kid is. They do now. They're talking about that. That's getting the word out. They get to see these highlights, and now they're catching on.
Starting point is 00:05:48 And like we said it yesterday, he's going to be a big hit if they can make it. They got to make the tournament. Yeah, win that conference tournament. They got to make the tournament. Because if they make the tournament, he'll be big. Yeah. I mean, the views on that shows the interest people having him, and that's just a clip. Put him in an actual game playing against maybe even a blue blood, not us, but a good team that's the country hates, and he'll be a star.
Starting point is 00:06:10 He should be killing it in NIL, right? I mean, I feel like there's got to be some good NIL stuff. They need to make the tournament and win one NCAA tournament game. When one, and the dude's face will be absolute. But remember, he's only a sophomore, and it's not like he's going to go to the draft. So like he's got a chance. He's got a chance to be a dude who like next year or get some NIL stuff.
Starting point is 00:06:33 I think that dude could end up being the face of college basketball depending on where he goes and plays and he looks like I did in eighth grade. Well, like we said, if he hears the transfer portal, finds the right school where he fits into their system, he could blow up and be a big star. So congrats to Kreme Abdul-Jabbar for his success. Now, you have to leave.
Starting point is 00:06:54 You're going to like Houston. So you're leaving after this segment, correct? Correct. So it is worth noting you, I mean, I knew things were bad when I had one of my family friends write me and say, I'm really upset about Ryan Lemon and what he said yesterday about those two women. Now they're here. Marsha Poe and Misty, both came to the remote. First of all, they're sitting, they're sitting on the, they're sitting on the,
Starting point is 00:07:25 the front row, one of them has brought a stick to hit you with. Are you stripping? Oh, okay. She has a shirt on that says, kickin' butt is our business, and business is good. Oh, okay, Ryan. And I think, Ryan, I mean, I kind of know what you meant, but not really. So, well, I do. Unfortunately, I do know.
Starting point is 00:07:55 that my man has to do better with women. And so here's your chance. We have women listening. You should apologize to these two women for calling them out by name and saying that they couldn't host the show as an example that no one could. I totally apologize. You know, look at them. I went up to both of them today, gave them a big hug.
Starting point is 00:08:15 We had a group hug. We hugged it out. But they're looking at you. I think we're looking at it wrong. This is not an apology. They are so popular that everybody knows you guys so much. Let's start again. Let's start again.
Starting point is 00:08:27 Nobody heard what you did earlier. Nobody wants to hear your joke. I apologize. I'm going to say what I was going to say. Yes, thank you very much, and I appreciate it. I love you guys. You know I love you. I've reached out to you both after the show.
Starting point is 00:08:40 It was all in fun, and you should take it the fact you guys are so popular. We love you so much. We knew everybody knew who you were talking about. I just threw two of my favorite names out there. They were you two. I love you both, and I would do anything for you. But you're not sorry? But that was not an apology.
Starting point is 00:08:56 I said I was sorry 15 times. I must have missed it. I must have missed it, too. I think, I know you think you said you were sorry right there, but you didn't. I sincerely apologize. I did not meet it that way. There we go. That's much better.
Starting point is 00:09:12 It is very odd. It's very odd. We all have our strengths and weaknesses. It is very odd how hard it is for Ryan to apologize. He's always been like that. He is the nicest human being I know, but it is really, really hard for him to say the words, I'm sorry, Drew.
Starting point is 00:09:33 If you've noticed that over the year. Well, when he started, I was getting dizzy with all that spinning he was doing, trying to change the story from yesterday. But I'm glad they seem to have squashed the beef, although Misty's still got that cane. I'm not sure it's completely over. That's a pool cue.
Starting point is 00:09:47 She brought a pull cue to whoop me with. Also, I would like to note, at the front row of a sports radio show of nine people, seven, women. So if all the people you're picking on, Ryan, maybe pick on the men and say the one's not sitting up front. No other sports radio on the show in the country have seven or nine people on the
Starting point is 00:10:02 front row women. Now, with that said, I am still the person, I guess along with Drew, that believes in our fan base to be able to host the show. I believe that we're going to have a winner from the bracket contest.
Starting point is 00:10:18 We're still going to working on which one we'll do. If we'll do the KS bar or do a no one. And remember, whoever wins, gets to host the show, not by themselves. We'll have guys here. Maybe I'll be here. If not, they'll be here, to help you. And if you don't want to do it, you can pick the person to do it.
Starting point is 00:10:35 I do have a rule. They have to be at least 18 or 6. I'm going to say 16 years old. Your 8-year-old can't come up here and host the show. I'm sorry, that's just not going to work. If you have a precocious 16, 17, 18, I'll let them, but like no kids. but I want to give a chance to somebody. I learned this.
Starting point is 00:10:56 There's a guy whose show I go on a lot called The Chuck Oliver Show. Okay? Yeah. He does, anybody know who that is? He does college football, especially in like Georgia, Florida, basically. Okay. He, 20 years ago, won a contest to fill in, and now he moved from being a businessman to being a lawyer or to being a sports radio host just from having won a contest.
Starting point is 00:11:21 You're telling me the next Chuck Oliver is on. I don't think Chuck Oliver's walking through that door for our contest. I did get a big response just yesterday after the show. People either excited about this contest or thinking it's an absolute worst. I actually had a KSR listener into my home yesterday. Casey Clark came and did some stuff from my house. And all we've talked about in the beginning was, are you all really doing that contest? Some people think it's going to be a disaster and some really want to hear it.
Starting point is 00:11:48 So, which brings me to the second thing I wanted to say, so I'll just announce this now, and then we'll, you know, it'll be a little while before we do it. I'm going to be taking some time off this summer. I'm going to do some traveling, and so I'm taking a little bit more than I usually do in the summer. I don't know the exact amount of time, but I'm going to be taking some time, an extended period of time off for a while, and we were trying to figure out what we're going to do with the show. So here's what we are going to do. While I'm gone, we will do some guest host,
Starting point is 00:12:23 but it's not going to be like it's been in some years where it's all guest hosts. But what I decided to do is these guys, these three guys, they're going to take their vacations during some of that too, but they're going to be here most of the time to keep the anchors of the show. But three of the five days a week, I'm going to bring in somebody that folks like to host the show with them. So one of the five days a week, Tom Hart is going to host the show, which I think people will like, you can do better than that for Tom Hardy's listening.
Starting point is 00:12:55 And then one of the five days a week, I think Peter Burns is going to host during that day as well. Guys, you guys. And then I'm working on the third one right now, but it'll be a name of somebody you really know, you know very well. And then in the other two days, these guys are still going to be on every day. When Tom Hart hosts, it'll be with them. When Peter Burns hosts, it'll be with them. When the third person hosts, it will be with them.
Starting point is 00:13:21 And then the other days, either these guys will host by themselves, or they'll be in charge and they'll bring in somebody to sit with them. So I think the show will continue carrying on. I'll be back a few weeks before the football season. But I'm going to stay here through Memorial Day, maybe even a little bit longer, and then be back. But I just wanted folks to know that as they get ready for the fall. and it'll be interesting to see.
Starting point is 00:13:44 Got Tom and Peter and a couple of guys, and it's very awesome of them to do it. Oh, yeah. They're excited about it. They both agreed, and they're both very excited to do it. Both the guys have hosted before. They're both really, really good.
Starting point is 00:13:56 I think the fan base really embraced both of them. Everybody loves Tom Hart anyway. But so if you're going to be gone for a while, what's her name? There's no her. You've got to stop with that. There is no her, but it's, you know, it's something that I planned, actually a few years back and is now finally here.
Starting point is 00:14:16 But I'm excited to have Tom and Peter, Drew. Yeah, and we'll have, I mean, whole summer to talk about this national championship. We're about to win. Big football season to get excited about. There'll be plenty of material while you're out that we'll be sure to weigh in on. Who's up next? Grandma Sarah.
Starting point is 00:14:33 Grandma Sarah, the third person that Ryan mentioned has not being able to host the show. That's the only thing I wanted to say. I was just saying to Ryan, well, thanks for throwing me under the bus, yesterday. Sweet Grandma Sarah, Ryan. Can I apologize to her, too? If you'll say the words, I'm sorry.
Starting point is 00:14:52 Grandma, Sarah, I apologize to you also. It was a bad thing I said. I should be punished. Very bad thing to say. Okay, now that's a little weird. Okay. I accept your apology. Thank you very much. Okay, good.
Starting point is 00:15:05 Sarah, were you surprised when you just got thrown in out of nowhere? Yes. I'm just listening. and all of a sudden, I'm thinking, okay, Ryan, how do you know? Come on. I think you would do an excellent job, Sarah. Are we going to win this weekend? Of course, yes.
Starting point is 00:15:25 Well, there you go. That's all I'm worried about. All right, well, thank you very much. Thank you. Let's talk before Ryan gets gone, he's got to take off to go to Houston. Drew, what do you tell – what's the worst thing that could happen in the game Saturday? Obviously, we lose, but what is the scenario where the game's close? I mean, Arkansas has some players and they can score.
Starting point is 00:15:43 They've just been a complete mess. If you talk to anyone around there, it seems like Musselman's already got his foot out the door going somewhere. So I guess the biggest fear would be they just decide they want to show up and play together this game because they are talented enough to compete with Kentucky. I just think where Kentucky's turned a corner and they're looking forward to what's next in March and Arkansas is ready for it to be over with, Kentucky should be all right in this one. All right, we'll make our picks at the end before you have to get out of here. first of all tell me about Stockton Mortgage.
Starting point is 00:16:10 Stockton Mortgage, the spring buying season is coming in hot. I mean, it's March 1st right now. And when a lot of buyers out there, a lot of listings hit in the market, so you want to be ready, get pre-approved before you go out looking for that house. It doesn't matter if it's in Garrett County, Danville, whatever. Stockton Mortgage can help you. They're all across the state. They're in a bunch of states. I forget the number.
Starting point is 00:16:27 But you can call them. You can apply online. It's at Stockton.com. NMLS 8259, MLS, Equal Housing Lender. MLS, Major League Soccer. All, give me, give me the. your score and your MVP? Me?
Starting point is 00:16:41 I hate to miss the game because I think Danielle Musselman may be there, so I really disappoints me. I won't get to see her. But Kentucky wins it. I'm going to say 91-74. I mean, I think it's a royal ass kick in tomorrow. And Antonio Reeves has a monster game every time he plays Arkansas, so I get to pick him.
Starting point is 00:16:59 All right, well, there you go. You took mine that I usually take it. Thank you very much. Enjoy your trip to Houston to see your son play football. We will take a break and be right back. This is Kentucky Sports. Radio. To talk to Matt Jones and the crew, call the Clark's Puppetonshop phone line at 859-2802-287 or
Starting point is 00:17:16 1-800-606-4-2-603. You can also text Matt on the A-Vision Glass text machine at 772-774-5254. Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio here live. Lockard's Park. They have a putting green and restaurant here with his information about Dick's Dam. Dick's Dam is right over here in Harrington Lake. Great crowd.
Starting point is 00:17:41 This place is now full here at Lockridge Park. They've got all kinds of stuff going on. Food stuff for sale. If you're in the area, come see us. And remember, we will be giving away two tickets to the Food City 500 here at the end of the show to take a bus down and get to go. So that should be exciting. 859-2-8027.
Starting point is 00:18:01 Before I go to the phones, let me bring up an idea. Hey, everybody, I got you over here. Here, there we go. I'm going to give up an idea and see what you think about it. Joe Lennardi has said, you know, he's Mr. Brackett, right? Joe Lennardi says that he believes the tournament should go from 68 to 80. But here's his case. Here's his case before you say no.
Starting point is 00:18:26 Again, when your visceral reaction is something, at least here are the best case for it. When the tournament expanded to 64, there were only 260 teams in. division one. Now there's 375 teams in division one. And now there's six more conferences than there were then. So there's six more automatic bids. His argument is 64 of, you know, 64 of two, whatever, was like 27%. And now 64 of 360 is like 17%. And he said if you got to 80, it would be a similar percentage of the entire country as to what makes it now. He would like to see it go to 80, but say that some of those bids that are not automatic, but the, you know, at-large bids have to go to teams in the mid-majors or lower.
Starting point is 00:19:26 And his argument basically is Indiana State's 25 and 5. If they lose in their conference tournament and get upset, they're not going to the tournament. we should have a way for teams like that that have had amazing regular seasons to still make the tournament without taking away teams that can be good. So that's his argument for 80. It would basically on the days of the Tuesday, Wednesday, instead of only having four games, you would have like eight games or whatever, 12 games that day instead of four. What do you make of that as an argument?
Starting point is 00:19:58 I mean, I kind of agree with his argument, even though I want the tournament to stay as it is. I'm worried about it in the long run, just with everything happening with conferences and just the future of college athletics. So if I can just take that 80 and what he says there, and that's the only thing we do again for a long time, I would probably take it, but I still just like it just as it is. That at least doing the percentages makes sense as opposed to just expanding and expanding and expanding. But I like the format. The NCAA tournament, just so you know, takes a lesser percentage of its teams than the NBA, the NBA, the NBA. NFL, Major League Baseball, and hockey. The only sport that takes a fewer percentage than college basketball is college football.
Starting point is 00:20:42 And his argument is, why do we take in college where there are so many colleges all over the country and actually take a lesser percentage of teams in the playoff than professional sports, where in theory we should maybe make it harder, even though my initial reaction was don't expand the tournament. when I heard that argument, I was like, well, I mean, that's not a crazy argument to make to say, we were fine with 64 when there's 260 teams. Why would we be against 80 when there's 360 teams? And so much the conference tournament is, as I see it, part of getting in.
Starting point is 00:21:19 It was like that before. It was like that when it was 64 to 260. The tournament the way it is right now is the greatest thing in all of sports. Better than the Super Bowl, the World Series, NBA Finals. Give me March match the way that it is. though, if there were more games on Tuesday, Wednesday. You're going to throw in 12 teams that have no chance of winning the tournament. No chance.
Starting point is 00:21:39 So we're just playing games for the sake of playing games. But you could argue we do that now. There hasn't been a team lower than a 7-C win the tournament since 1983. So, like, you could argue that over half the teams we put in the tournament now have absolutely no chance of winning it no matter what, and yet we still love it. So I don't, I get what you're saying, but I don't think. that's an argument against it, because if you really just want the teams that can win it, you should only allow, like, 16 teams.
Starting point is 00:22:06 So, you know, I do think there's a – I mean, Norfolk State's not winning it, but we want them in. Yeah. So what's wrong with having Indiana State? Everybody wants Indiana State in. They could lose and be out. Why not have them in? Because you're now having 12 other teams that you're adding in that aren't playing top-tier teams, right? No, there might be some big conference too.
Starting point is 00:22:29 He was just saying he didn't want to. there to be 12 mediocre big conference schools. So he thought that at least some should be put aside for the lower conference. I still think it's a bad idea. I don't like it. What do you think? Do you like it or not? Would you do it if you had to vote? If you had told me before I heard his case, I would have said no. But when I heard his case, he's adding only, he's adding 12 teams instead of. But where do we stop? Right there. He says we. Then 96, then 120. Well, no. His argument is, again, there's an argument to this rather than just mocking it. His argument is make it a percentage of how many teams there are,
Starting point is 00:23:03 and then that guarantees that we don't get too much. Figure it. Because right now, if we had 80, it would be almost the exact same percentage as when we expanded to 64 in 1985. So his argument is we just always try to keep that percentage. That's, by the way, what they do in the other sports. I don't know if you all realize in the NCAA in the other sports, they try to make it 20% of the schools every year.
Starting point is 00:23:25 College basketball and college football are the only ones where they don't know. do that. No, I get the percentages. I just, I guess, as much as I want to see Larry Nerd in the NCAA tournament, I think it's very, I like those conference tournaments, you have to win it to get to the big dance. I don't really, as much as I'd like them, just giving at-larges to mid-majors, like win your conference tournament, that's kind of their prize. Why doesn't that apply to us? I mean, remember, all these arguments you're making, you and Shannon are making, were made against going to 64 to begin with. I mean, it does apply to us. They just pick our at-larges because they're
Starting point is 00:23:54 better than the mid-major at-larges. Our dads, in 1883 or 84 when they went from 48 to 64 said the same thing we're saying. They're going to, well, these teams aren't going to win. Why are we adding them? It's more fun as it is. They made that same argument 40 years ago. Well, I mean, Kentucky's getting in because they're playing a much tougher schedule, playing tougher teams. Well, those teams would like to play a tougher schedule.
Starting point is 00:24:16 It's just they can't. Well, I mean, that's life. We're playing for the championship. Like, win your conference tournament get in. I want them in, but just giving gifts to those conferences, I don't think they should do that. I guess my final thought of it is, I, Everything we're saying was said 40 years ago. And they went, we need to do it, and the tournament got better.
Starting point is 00:24:35 It's not crazy that it might get better again that much time later. Who's next? Doing good. Doing good. I got about a minute. Great. That's been all I need. Real quick.
Starting point is 00:24:48 Wanted to check and see if you were talking about half a cow with nochalinda or half a beef or et cetera, because the beef is what's on the store. The cow is what's in the field. So if there's only 75% a quarter and a half of a cow, that's going to be a little easy to round up. So I was wondering if you can clarify that. I have no idea. Three quarters of a cow. Listen, you listen to this show long enough to know.
Starting point is 00:25:13 They'll keep the head. I can talk with intricacy about the law and numbers and the bracket. But if you ask me about what I'm talking about about a cow, you know I'm not the guy to ask for that question. Let's be real. We'll take a break and be right back here at Lockridge Park. This is Kentucky Sports Radio. T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay. Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones.
Starting point is 00:25:37 Welcome back, Tucky Sports Radio, here at Lockridge Park. Matt Jones, Drew Franklin, Chan the Dude. Tomorrow, Drew and I will be at the KS Bar at 11 o'clock for the pregame show. For those of you going to game, the bar actually is going to open at 10. We're going to open early because the game is at 1.30, but our pregame show will be at 11. For those of you that want to watch the game, the time to get there to watch the game kind of keeps getting a little earlier because we get more of a crab,
Starting point is 00:26:05 but I would say if you get there at 1230, 1245 for the 130 game, you should be good. The game is on CBS, so we get another CBS game there in Rupp Arena. I don't know who's calling it, but I think this will be on CBS here, and I think it's, they were on next week against Tennessee,
Starting point is 00:26:23 but this should be the last CBS, game that will ever be at Rupp Arena. We've had 40 some years of games on CBS from Rupp Arena, and I think this will be the final time that CBS will broadcast a game from Rupp Arena. I wonder if they'll give me that yellow banner that's always in the corner over there on the brick wall. Maybe they'll let me take that with them. It's a great banner. It is three straight Saturdays with CBS. We like that, and this is the last Saturday in Rupp until next season. So all the reasons to get down there and cheer on the cats. It's kind of sad, Shannon, the last time. I mean, CBS does such a better job of, like, given the atmosphere.
Starting point is 00:27:01 The music, I think, ties into it a lot, you know, the March Madness music. I'll give you an example just, again, in the hockey. So I was at that arena last night. The last three or four minutes were so tense, and the crowd was wild, and they were into it. Then I got home. I was trying to go to sleep, so I was like, I'll watch those three or four minutes again, and I put them on, and it sounded like no one was there. And I was sitting there thinking, this is.
Starting point is 00:27:25 This is the, you know, they kept saying when we were at Mississippi State, this place is going wild, you can't hear yourself. And I remember going, it doesn't sound that loud. Right. I just think it's the way ESPN does the games. But I feel like when CBS does the games, you can feel the crowd. You can feel the energy. And I just don't think you feel that on ESPN.
Starting point is 00:27:46 The presentation, for whatever reason, is a lot better on CBS. And it's always a big game. It has that big game feel when it's on CBS. And, yeah, it is kind of sad that it's going to. way. So moving forward, will all the games just be on SEC network or ESPN? Or ABC? ABC. So like ABC will start the games that we have on CBS, the kind of big, big games will now be on ABC. And actually, I think maybe it's just being on network over cable, but I think when you listen to a game on ABC, it does sound like you hear the crowd more on there. Maybe it's just like
Starting point is 00:28:20 something about being on cable. I don't, again, I'm not a tech guy. I don't know, but maybe that's something with CBS too, nostalgia. CBS, they're changing their stuff. It's different people all the time. But CBS, I mean, I've heard Raptory as long as I've been a Kentucky fan and those logos and the music. Same with football. That heard even worse last fall, just saying about a CBS sports and Kentucky being together.
Starting point is 00:28:40 So CBS will still have games, but it'll all be the Big Ten. They're now taking over the Big Ten contract. All right, two quick things before we go to the phones. Awesome or weird, Shannon. I'll let you go first. Taylor Swift made Pop Tarts for the entire. Chiefs offensive line before three of the games this year. Awesome.
Starting point is 00:28:59 Homemade Pop-Tarts. Awesome or weird? I think it's awesome. I don't think there's anything weird about that at all. It's no different than baking cookies or a cake. They said she herself made them. Didn't have somebody else made them. She made homemade, which I didn't know.
Starting point is 00:29:11 Do you all make homemade Pop-Tarts? I didn't know you can make homemade part-tarts. Oh, you do, Misty? Friend of your name. We'll turn to bring me one. That's good. Got to have frosting on it, though. Taylor Swift.
Starting point is 00:29:22 Awesome. Yeah, I mean, I'll call it awesome. It's just another thing of her being normal that people get mad about. Like if some other player's wife did that, you'd be like, oh, that's nice. But because it's her, people are like, get out of here. I mean, she just made cookies for the team. I think it's all right. Now, this one, I think's a little more controversial.
Starting point is 00:29:40 A new podcast, a former teammate of LeBron's, said before games, LeBron in the playoffs, will take his jersey and shorts in the last. locker room and set them long out on the floor before the game and let them sit for 30 minutes and no one is allowed to touch them or you can't walk over them you have to walk around them awesome or weird i don't think there's anything awesome about that that's strange yeah obviously a superstition that he has for whatever reason yeah that's that's sort of odd so let's say you're on the team would you step over it? I mean, it's LeBron.
Starting point is 00:30:26 You've got to go around it. He would probably have you kicked off the team. Yeah, you're traded that after. Yeah. I think you would have to respect it because he is your teammate, but it is really strange. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:30:38 I think I put mine right next to it. I'm in. Yeah, everybody's slam down. Don't let anybody touch mine either. Yeah. That would be funny if, like, the worst guy on the team would have said, I'm with you. You can't step over mine either.
Starting point is 00:30:51 I used to do it for the first day of school with whatever outfit I was going to wear in first grade. I mean, maybe LeBron just started then and hasn't changed. It's like his school outfit. Oh, before my first baseball game, I think I laid that thing out too. You know, just. Fair enough. Couldn't make it as far as LeBron.
Starting point is 00:31:05 I like it. Who's up next? Jared. Jared. How are you, Jared? I'm good. How are you? Doing good.
Starting point is 00:31:14 Two things if I have the time. I travel a lot for work and try to go to a game wherever I'm at, and I was in Columbus last night and ended up at there. State Nebraska game. The first thing is that place was maybe three-quarters of a way full and was louder and more energetic than any conference game I've been at Ruff in the last five years. Oh, stop. Stop.
Starting point is 00:31:36 I don't, listen. I'm not, I know respectfully, I don't believe you. I was at the Kentucky Georgia game, which wasn't even like the Kentucky, Indiana, or excuse me, the Kentucky, Tennessee or Kentucky Alabama game. And the Kentucky Georgia game was loud. And like, I'd love how you go to every game. I haven't missed one this year. I don't have a single complaint about Ruppereen.
Starting point is 00:31:59 It may be the very, very, very early games. The end zones up top weren't good. But since SEC play has started, these high caliber opponents, it's been great and they've been there early. I mean, are you really trying to tell me that Ohio State Nebraska basketball was better environment than Kentucky, Alabama last Saturday as we were whipping their tail? You really believe that, sir? Well, to be fair, I haven't been to a game this year, but it's...
Starting point is 00:32:27 Thank you very much. Well, that's what I'm saying. You've been to games the last three years. We've stunk. And one year it was COVID. Like, that's different. I mean, I... Can you go when there was cardboard cutouts?
Starting point is 00:32:41 Yeah, they didn't make much noise. I understand, but you haven't been this year. I will say, I mean, look, Kentucky's environment is not great. every game. But when it's good, you're never going to convince me Ohio State Nebraska basketball is better. I've been to Ohio State games. It is not like Rupp when it's rocking. Well, the second thing is they went up 10 with under a minute left, so I pulled a Matt Jones and was going to try to beat some traffic and stopped in the bathroom and they were talking about Jake DeBler, the interim head coach in there.
Starting point is 00:33:18 And one of the guys said that they can't get rid of them, they got to hire them again because that would be like hiring Cal for half a season. Well, yeah, I don't know if Jake Dee. I've never even heard the name Jake DeBler, so I'm not sure if that's at all like Cal. But I appreciate, I appreciate the call. I understand, listen, Kentucky's environment in Rupp is not perfect. But I agree with Mark's story that in making legitimate, like, you know, We have a group of fans, again, a lot of them are young who are just like, this is the worst environment in the country.
Starting point is 00:33:53 That is just not true. It's just not true. No, I've been at everyone this year. I've heard personal stories that maybe like a person got told to sit down. They were cheering. That exists throughout the arena. But just being there, the overall atmosphere with the players are hearing, it's been great. They've showed up, especially for the big ones.
Starting point is 00:34:09 I've been to every great arena in the country, and a lot of them that aren't great. So have you often, Drew. We went to a lot of them together. Kansas is the best, and it's the best by a lot. Dukes is very good, and then you get like Auburn's good. They're like small ones that are good. But Kentucky's in the top ten. And when Kentucky is loud, it's as loud as any of them.
Starting point is 00:34:38 It is. Now, it's not that on a consistent basis, Shannon, but when it's a good game, it's as loud as any of them. Yep. Those Saturday conference games when it's, you know, capacity and Kentucky's whipping up on somebody, it's, yeah, it's really loud. I mean, you want to say it's not a good atmosphere. You want to see a bad atmosphere. Go to UCLA, right?
Starting point is 00:34:58 Go to North Carolina. North Carolina is a lot worse atmosphere than us. Go to Tennessee. I mean, Tennessee is not a great atmosphere. Kansas is better. And if anybody tries to say they're not, they're wrong. Dukes is better. But of the power programs, to me, do you.
Starting point is 00:35:14 Drew, we're at least third. I agree. I've said this a couple times this season already. It's not just the attendance and the people there. Whoever's doing it at Ropp, the marketing team, they're doing a great job of keeping the energy going during timeouts. They're playing music. We've talked about the snack cam, but the dance cams been very active.
Starting point is 00:35:30 There's been years in the past. We put people on the screen. They're just sitting there. They've really worked in a lot of that stuff to keep the energy going during break. So it's kind of the whole game. Who's up next? Chris. Chris, go ahead, Chris.
Starting point is 00:35:42 Hey, guys. I'm calling in the spirit of unity from Rocky 4. Matt, you implored the divided Indian fan base to come together for this run and the tournament. And Ryan swallowed his pride and I apologize to the ladies. Now I'm hoping that you and Drew can apologize to each other and bring East back with West and reunite. I was like, what do we apologize at each other for? Right here and from all these people, we'll do the Kentucky State flag. Okay, that's exactly right.
Starting point is 00:36:17 We'll shake hands, east and west coming together. There we go, yes, we just did that. We are. All right. Yes, no, east and west, Kentucky are fine. We both don't know if the guy from Detroit is actually from Kentucky, but otherwise, we're good. All right, thank you very much. Thanks, Chris.
Starting point is 00:36:37 Hey, Clark's Pumpin Shop, new location on Lucille Drive. They, Ryan walked to it the other day, gave out. some stuff. They have sausage egg and cheese, bacon egg and cheese, sausage biscuits. They got a lot going on. Hanger 54 pizza, Cajun, and the freshest coffee every day. Welcome back. Final segment here, Kentucky Sports Radio live at Lockridge Park. Great place for you to visit in Garrett County. They've got camping options. They're going to have their ribbon-cutting ceremony here right after our show to Welcome the new place. The Rick House, this event center, which you can have weddings and a lot of other things.
Starting point is 00:37:48 Great crowd of people here for us and a great crowd of people here for the ribbon cutting. Thank you to all those folks for coming out and enjoy it. 859-280-2287. Shannon, do you have a band show this weekend? I do, yeah. We're playing tomorrow night in Lexington at Banners and hopefully to see everybody out there. Yeah, I get a picture of you every time you're going and you sing with such a a pain like your constipated face and I love it because I said that's how you know he's
Starting point is 00:38:18 rocking you gotta feel it you know you're covering songs you gotta you gotta be in the moment that by the way this view right here over the lake is historic it was a scene in the movie April love in 1954 with the actor slash singer Pat Boone as one of the stars was filmed right here do you know who Pat Boone I thought I recognized the scene had that on DVD. Did you really? I don't remember Pat Boone as well as the movie, but it was a great movie. She'll look up Pat Boone.
Starting point is 00:38:49 Well, no, I'll tell you how you. He was like a crooner, right? Like, he was kind of like a crooner singer. But then I believe Shannon in like the 90s, he started singing heavy metal. Really? Pat Boone? Am I right? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:39:02 No, I am right. I'm telling you, he was like, he was like a crooner. He was like a, like, oh, like that. kind of singer. Yeah. And then he like when he was old, he tried to kind of get hip. I'm telling you, he sang like a Frank Sinatra joined Metallica. That's no, he created it.
Starting point is 00:39:20 It was like if Frank Sinatra created Metallica. Wow. That's what he did. Look it up. I got to listen to this guy on the way back. I'm certain. I don't know if you, I don't think it was good or successful. Well, he did.
Starting point is 00:39:31 Who's up next? We got Jeff in Lexington. Jeff in Lexington. How are you? Hey, Matt. Real quick. I want to apologize. for my attempted humor last week.
Starting point is 00:39:42 I called last week, you know, with three things I hate about Matt Jones, but I was just going to do that as an attempt at humor, and I hope that did not offend you. Been very upset about it since. And one of your colleagues there, the one who isn't there, advice me not to do that, so I pull that back today, if you will. And also, Matt, I don't know how you get involved in this contest, but I'm throwing my name into the ring for a host of the show one day.
Starting point is 00:40:09 all right well just win the bracket contest and you will be uh you will be able to do it i appreciate the call i mean it's not a talent show and if it was calling in and telling three things you don't like about me would not have been the way to win that talent show who's up next ed ed ed go ahead ed hey guys hey this field of 80 i guess what the way to handle that it might be kind of fun actually the more i think about it uh just expands the play in Well, that's what it is. I mean, if they do the field of 80, if they do the field of 80, the theory is they take the 9, 10, 11, and 12 seats, or whatever, and you're playing for those seats. The 13, 14, 15, and 16 stay, the top 8 stay, and you're playing for those seats.
Starting point is 00:40:58 It's like the playing games in the NBA playoffs now. That's basically what they would be talking about. But the beautiful part about the tournament is it doesn't matter how many teams get in it. We always pick a legitimate national champion. This year it's going to be the Kentucky Wildcats. Well, I hope you're right. We were talking about that. I appreciate the call during the break.
Starting point is 00:41:19 Shannon, you go through history. I've said this, I think, a couple weeks ago. And this is something to remember as the brackets come out. 29 of the last 35 years. 29 the last 35 years. The national champion has been a one or two seat. 29 in the last 35 years. Three of the six years they haven't.
Starting point is 00:41:39 they were the number three seed. And then only three other times has that not been the case, and two of them were Yukon. So it's a different, you know, one and two seeds win the tournament all the time. We're probably not going to be a one or two seed, but we could get to that three seed. And that is at least a plausible thing. You know, with this team, even if they're a five seed, I could see them making a run to the final four. I could see them losing in the second round. I don't know which team will show up from night to night.
Starting point is 00:42:12 So if they made a run to the final four, I wouldn't be surprised regardless of their seed, just because they can score so many points. CBS did a story that said basically, if Kentucky will play Reed Shepard, Rob Dillingham, and Antonio Reeves, they'll win the title. And if they don't, they won't. That was basically, that was essentially what the story basically was,
Starting point is 00:42:33 saying if you look at our percentages, we're the best team in the country when you play those three guys. And when you don't play those three guys a lot or you don't play them together, we're just kind of average. That's essentially what the story said. Do you agree with that? I think everyone who has seen Kentucky play basketball agrees with that. I mean, there are some years where people have their preference
Starting point is 00:42:55 or you're debating who should be in. Like I said yesterday, you have other coaches talking about, holy crap, John Caliperies 5, he just put against us. We have no answer for. Nate Oates said he found his lineup against us. If other coaches are saying that out loud, you know, you don't normally talk about another team. They're even saying Cal's got to play those guys.
Starting point is 00:43:12 Just to give you some numerical examples, per hundred possessions, so 100 offensive possessions, when Reed, Rob, and Antonio are in together, we outscore other teams by 35 points. When Reed is out, we lose. We're losing by 12. And when Reed and Antonio are not in together, we're losing. So, like, pretty clear, Shannon. Do you slide those stats to Cal maybe?
Starting point is 00:43:46 I mean, do you think he knows that? Do you think that he actually breaks down the analytics of games? I don't see Cal doing that. But he should know that, though. He should. I'll say this Arkansas game is when they went to Reeves and Reed in the second half. It was tied, and they went on like a 15-0 run in Fayetteville. All right, so a couple things here.
Starting point is 00:44:01 First of all, Don Franklin. You can buy vehicles at Don Franklin, Don Franklin Auto.com. They've got locations all over the state. 27. Best service, best price, best selection. You can pick your vehicle online and they'll bring it to you. At the dealership nears you, it's Don Franklin Auto.com. Pre-game show tomorrow's at 11.
Starting point is 00:44:21 KSpar opens at 10. Shannon, tell me the score and who's going to win? Kentucky wins 9583. I'll take Reed Shepard as my MVP. All right. He already took Antonio, so what do you got? Oh, let's blow him out. 92 to 68.
Starting point is 00:44:36 My MVP is, I almost said Justin Edwards had to catch myself. Big Z. I jinx Justin Everton. They can stay on the floor. So I'm not saying him again. 90 to 76, Rob Dillingham, matches Reed Shepard's 32 points he had last game and gets it this game. Thank you all very much here at Lockridge Park. We very much appreciate it.
Starting point is 00:44:57 We will see you later. This has been Kentucky Sports Radio. Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guidance. Not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.
