Those people are starving for banter.

Starting point is 00:01:14 We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me. He goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Time out. Quarterback on office blue with 42. A rep, my mama want you to wave at her. What? Where's she at?
Starting point is 00:01:35 Hey, Miss Parker. Listen to the Clifford Show on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Comedy of Broadway in Lexington welcomes Ian Bagg. Call 859271 joke or visit Comedy OffBroadway.com. Welcome, everyone at Kentucky Sports Radio Monday, March the 4th. I'm Matt Jones here on a beautiful day, perfect day. A pretty and shorts day. My kind of day here in Lexington, Kentucky, although I think it gets colder the rest of the week.
Starting point is 00:02:28 But today, what a nice day. Matt Jones, Drew Franklin here at KS. Barn Grill. It's just us. Ryan is in Houston with his kid for football something, and then Shannon is sick. Shannon had to cut his concert in Lexington short because he got sick Saturday. So it's just me and you today, but it's a big day on the Clark's Pubbets Shop phone line 859, 280, 2807, A Vision Auto Glass Text Machine, 772-774-2524 in this edition sponsor by the T.J. Smith, all of us.
Starting point is 00:02:58 You call T.J. I'll make them pay. It's like the fade this podcast, which, by the way, we're doing. you know about episode tomorrow. It's like the fate of this podcast comes to KSR. Yeah, we have a nice win to talk about. I prefer. I didn't know Shannon had to call it quits on his concert. I hope he gets filmed better. He had one of those things like vocal illness and like I think he's sick. So hopefully he's better. I don't know. I mean, he had to cut it short. They had to have the drummer or the guitar players sing. Oh, wow. Which, I don't know. Can you imagine if you went and saw, I don't know,
Starting point is 00:03:33 Aero Smith and Stephen Tyler was like, sorry that dude does the guitar. He's going to be the one that sings today. But that's what happened, I guess, for Alice Bluegown. I'm more worried about Shannon getting past at his job. He getting a little while he pimped. We'll get him back and Ryan home safely. So listen to what we have today. Not only we're going to talk about the game, we'll spend a good deal of time talking about that.
Starting point is 00:03:54 We also are going to have the firefighter, Bryce Cardin. And we'll talk about what happened Friday because it happened after the show with the truck on the bridge there, the semi-truck, the firefighter that rescued the woman in the truck. He is coming on the show at 1130. He was on Good Morning America this morning. And now he's on this KSR a little later in the morning. I always love when people do that double-hatter. It happens all the time. It happens all the time.
Starting point is 00:04:22 I'm very excited to hear what he has to say because the photos and the scene from that was really unbelievable. unbelievable. It was national news, really the moment our show ended, people were sending it to me on my job home. He's a huge UK fan. Okay. So he did a CNN interview yesterday in a Kentucky shirt, which I like. Like that. But he's a UK fan.
Starting point is 00:04:42 I had a number of people reach out and say, hey, he's a UK fan. It would be cool to hear from him. And I thought, yeah, because I have all the, I don't know about you. I have all these questions, you know, about, like, how they pulled it off and sort of the logistics of it. I'm going to be kind of, I don't know, I'm going to be kind of geeking out a little bit. I think, because, you know, I mean, everybody argues about everything now. It's nice to just have something where everybody can go. That was awesome.
Starting point is 00:05:09 And I assume he's always, they've had these scenarios. He's never had to do it. And then finally right in front of him and he's got a hangover thing. I want to just know what's going through his mind. Is he nervous, excited, you know, urgent to get to her? I just, for something that wild, I just want to know what he was thinking and what they had to go through to get to that point to get it done. Me too. We're also at this moment missing something I always enjoy on television,
Starting point is 00:05:29 which is when the Supreme Court issues an opinion, and they always come out like at 10 a.m. or whatever. And they have to go on the news to say the answer, and they're reading it on the air, trying to figure it out these idiots that host television shows. And I can see them right now on the screen. For people who don't know, the Supreme Court said Trump gets to be on the ballot in Colorado, which is, it was 9-0.
Starting point is 00:05:55 I predicted that's what was going to happen. But it's clear they're reading the opinion while they're on the air. And I like watching them because I know they don't know what they're talking about. Well, that guy right there, I was on 2020. I was watching him. He was talking about a murder in Nashville. Now he's breaking down the decision. Dude, he's multi-tal.
Starting point is 00:06:11 That guy last night was put me to sleep talking about a murder in Nashville. And now he's doing this. Dude, what's his name? David, something. Oh, well, David, do your thing. But it's anyway. I always enjoy watching that because it's the TV. network people at their stupidest.
Starting point is 00:06:27 It's not written out for them. No, that's exactly right. Now, Kentucky Big Win Saturday. They beat Arkansas in a game that, you know, it kind of went how we talked a little bit about the pregame show. It was close for a long time. I mean, they led by, what, nine late in the second half? I'll admit when they went up, it was around right before Rob checked in.
Starting point is 00:06:50 I'll admit I was starting to think worst-case scenario, though. Not until that point, even when they're up a nine, a little early. the second half. But Rupp Arena went dead silent for a moment when they went up seven where they scored like seven or eight straight times. And it was and they hit just three after three after three. You could hear a pin drop in that place. It was like panic. It's like we're all that moment thinking what in the heck's about to happen. But then Kentucky got it going again. But outside of the little panic there briefly, it was just another fun Saturday at Ruff. The crowd brought it again. It was a good day. It was a great day with the crowd. The crowd continues to
Starting point is 00:07:23 be awesome. You know, Rob Dillingham for 33 minutes plays poorly and then wins him the game. Yeah. I mean, really, that's what he does. He, like, had, he was not good. They couldn't even really play him for a lot of the game. And D.J. Wagner hit four-three, so he was getting a lot of his minutes. And then all of a sudden, you know, they take Reeves out with seven minutes to go to just give him, like, a little breather. And then Rob just decides to not miss again. And so he ends up taking them to a victory. And then he passed well, too. Got some lobs and some good dishes.
Starting point is 00:07:58 13 points and four assists in that little flurry. It's amazing. In seven minutes. He came in there, down four. He got an and one to cut it to one. The place of Robbs, because it's a nice finish. They score. He comes back, hits two free throws.
Starting point is 00:08:09 Then he comes back, gives him the lead. Then he starts getting the assist. You know, a couple of them were lobs and dunks. And the next thing, you know, it's over. It's over. He's like, he's like, Rob came in and snapped and said, my work's done here. Which is really what, like him at his best, right? and his best is coming in, being that spark plug and just, we have to, Whitaker Bank has to be
Starting point is 00:08:30 out of business, don't they? How many Whitaker Bank shots does this team hit? Between Rob and Reed and Reeves, they use the backboard like Tim Duncan. One of those shots he hit off the backboard. I am not an official physicist, but I do kind of do it sometimes just for fun. I've seen you, you sit around. Yeah, I just sit around like doing physics. That's against the laws of physics. Like that's, one of Rob's bank shots is the best argument I've heard for their not being space. And the flat. Because I don't know how it went in, and he got filed.
Starting point is 00:09:08 It was an N-1, too. I can't wait for the end of the year when his final highlight reel's done, because there's been several of those. There's that one. He scored a few weeks ago where I think it touched the shot clock. No, he did. He went the one didn't hit the shot. But he hit the top of the backboard.
Starting point is 00:09:21 Yeah, but I mean, it's wild what he's able to do. And when he was in that pick and roll with Big Z, Arkansas defenders were just spinning in circles. They were getting every shift he had. Rob with the shifts beat Arkansas by himself. What about Big Z? Big Z. Justin Edwards with the big, no, not CB. Big Z.
Starting point is 00:09:39 CB walks in and thinks I scream his name. No, Big Z is what we were talking about. And then he had six rebounds in that flurry. He did. Justin Edwards. for that three that Justin Edwards took. I mean, it was a horrible decision to shoot. But it put the game away.
Starting point is 00:09:57 He had a little mid-range also probably should have taken. Yeah. Coming in cold, it's a boat. But the three, there were still like 20 seconds left on the shot clock, and we were running time off the clock, and Justin was like, no. And then he made it. And so I go, well, all right, if that's what you're going to make it. Yeah, a month ago, we're talking about how, is this dude even here anymore?
Starting point is 00:10:16 Can he lift his head? Yeah. He just looks so beat up. And now he's just hitting threes when he's not supposed to be taking them and looking at the crowd and hitting his chest pumping him up. He's just a completely different player. He also had two steals in that run. He did. Oh, that's right.
Starting point is 00:10:29 Yeah, missed one, but then the second time. They kind of turned it over. Yeah. All right. So all that's the setup. If you want to talk about the game, 859-280, 2287, we talked about a lot of the post-game show. Let's talk about what I found the most interesting, which was the guy outside of my house. Saw that.
Starting point is 00:10:46 All right. So, you know, for people who don't know, I. have my Lexington apartment's pretty close to Rupp. And I go, I'd say when we got down nine or whatever, I got into pacing season. You know, the whole game kind of thought, we're going to win this game. And then when we get down nine, you start to think, my mind goes to, all right, what if we lose? What am I going to say on the post game show?
Starting point is 00:11:08 Oh, no, now we're the sixth seed. And I'm sitting there thinking about staying up late every night and doing those shows. So I'm pacing around. I go out on my patio and I look out. the back. And I see this thing and I think this is too perfect. There's a guy standing in the back of his pickup truck with his head on the back of the truck and he's listening to the game on his phone.
Starting point is 00:11:34 And when I see it, at first I'm like, is he drunk? Like, what's he doing? And then there's a break in the action and he stands up and starts pacing in his truck. And then I realize he's me during these games. games. He's too nervous. He has left the arena because he's too nervous and he's listening to the game right outside the arena in his truck. Standing in the bed of the truck, standing up in it, standing in the bed of the truck rather than watching the game. And I thought, okay, you know, I'm not a great photographer, but I got to get this picture. It was important to me that I didn't
Starting point is 00:12:13 want to show his face, right, because I didn't want to embarrass him. He's already down enough in this moment. So I did all the things a photographer do. I was like, all right, make sure I don't get the license play of the truck. Right. Get him, but when his face is obscured. And I feel like maybe I got a Pulitzer Prize winning shot. I got him when his head was on the ground. He looks just completely dejected.
Starting point is 00:12:35 But he is, in my opinion, at that moment, the epitome of a lot of UK fans. You care so much, you can't even take it. If they're making one of those nice video montages they do and they're trying to capture Kentucky basketball, I think the opening scene is a fan in his truck, listen on the radio outside the arena. Like the arena's behind him and he's still listening to broadcast because he's superstitious.
Starting point is 00:12:59 And like we care that much. We go to crazy links to make sure we're doing whatever we've got to do to make sure the team wins. His might have been getting out of the arena. So, of course, I didn't know who he was. Right? Because, I mean, he's just a guy who parks outside my house for the games. And I get a message from some.
Starting point is 00:13:15 somebody a friend on Saturday night. They're out in Lexington. And they heard people talking about that picture and turned around and it's the guy in the picture. And his name, I think I can say this. His name is Daniel. He used to be a cook here. Oh, really? I haven't seen a face or a name yet. KS.R. He used to be a cook here, which I didn't know, because again, I couldn't see his face because he had it on the ground. He used to be a cook here. And he said, he said, you know, he used to be a cook here. and he said that he said you know he he sent like through a message to me said he did not know he was okay so he goes home after the game goes to sleep didn't know he was on social media and woke up to people going is that you wow that was the that was the fan of so so daniel daniel the
Starting point is 00:14:05 ukic fan that couldn't stay in the arena i think i don't know i think i'm picturing who it is now all i've seen to to this point is his head down what a coincidence that he used to be a cook here. So here's my question. I had, there was a debate online. Is that awesome or is it weird that he couldn't stay in the arena? You know I'm on awesome, because I've done this many, many times, many times I've left the arena, including final four games, left the arena because I couldn't take it. You're more rational than me when it comes to this stuff. What do you think? Oh, I'll call out crazy when I see it, but this is awesome. Completely awesome. It's a man who's passionate.
Starting point is 00:14:44 about Kentucky basketball. It's no ordinary game. This is Arkansas. This is a rival. We hate Arkansas. He was in that environment. It was too much. It was probably consuming him.
Starting point is 00:14:53 He probably felt those walls collapsing. And he thought, you know what, I need the radio in my truck. And that man just got out to where he's comfortable. I think it is awesome. I agree. Maybe Kentucky doesn't win if he doesn't do that. No, no. He said to my friend, he went out when we went down nine.
Starting point is 00:15:10 He won the game. Like, the game changed. Why didn't Jack Givens interview him? He did, though, if that's when he left. He said he left when it was nine. I think when I saw him, we had just taken the lead. I think we were up like two or four. That's when I saw him and he was still like that.
Starting point is 00:15:27 Well, there's a lot of people listening. Maybe they don't get in their truck or their shower. You do it too. But they do something. I do it with football. Third downs, I have to get up in front of the TV and get in the stance because I'm helping make that stop to force a punt. Daniel here he's got to get in a truck.
Starting point is 00:15:41 Saturday morning, or on Sunday morning on ESPN, I opened up the phone. I talked about that picture and said nationwide, can you tell me the stuff you do? You would be shocked at some of the things people do. Actually, I want to tell you one when I come back. A Bengals fan called in with, I think, the weirdest thing that I've ever heard. It would be most awesome. Well, excuse me. Most awesome.
Starting point is 00:16:01 That's exactly right. 859-280-2287. The cats get a big victory. We're going to take a break. We're right back. This is KSR. Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio here at KS. Barr. Come on out and see us at 11 when we open. It's just me and Drew today. 859-2-80-2027. If you have something you do, like my guy getting in the truck, 7-7-2-4, go ahead and text it. I like this one. Somebody writes in and goes, Matt, I don't think it's weird at all. He went out in the car during the game. Now, what is weird is that I do the same thing for the blue-white game. That is weird. If you have to go outside for the blue-white game,
Starting point is 00:16:47 then that may be a little weird. Yeah, but shows you crazy. We were just sitting here at the bar. The channels that are on or whatever, the channels, are the things that people watched last night, and they have ABC on, so I assume there was probably an NBA game. And we saw a preview for a TV show that comes on, I guess, Channel 36 here in Lexington,
Starting point is 00:17:06 which is a channel that, like, you know, I don't know much about. You don't hear a lot about it. They have a show at noon, called High Noon. You like that name for the show? I had a few high news last night. So it's sitting home. It comes home at noon.
Starting point is 00:17:19 High noon. And it says it's with Doug and Lisa High. First of all, good for High noon. See, again, you have a woman whose last name's high. Noon. Walked right into it. Whoever wrote that that's good. But the things is Doug and Lisa High.
Starting point is 00:17:37 Now, there's two ways that could be. They could be married, right? Doug and Lisa High. Probably what most people would assume. Or it could just be that Doug just goes by Doug. Which we're now wondering which it is. How about this? Or what if it's just Doug and Lisa and they're taking on the name High
Starting point is 00:17:56 because the show is High Noon? I like the idea that Lisa High got a job and he's hired a guy named Doug. He's just throwing people off. Doug's like, can I please use my last name on the show? And they're like, no. The show is called High Noon. Unless your last name is Noon, your last name is not. going to be part of this show.
Starting point is 00:18:14 They do have an easy punch. Are they married? Doug and Lisa, hi. I would guess so. I feel like we've been in the Lexington Media a long time. I've never seen those two people in my life. Have you? No, what if they were, like, we really want to do a show at one?
Starting point is 00:18:26 I don't think we can, it's just not going to work. We're not going to hire you if your shows at one. You have the 12 o'clock. I think my favorite explanation is Doug begged to have his last name part of the show. His name is like Doug Johnson. And they're like, no. you're just going by Doug. You're sitting next to week.
Starting point is 00:18:44 Her name works. You have to stay just Doug. 859-280-2287. SEC tournament scenarios before we go to the phones. Unless something crazy happens, and it can, we need some craziness. But unless something crazy happens, here's this scenario. We are either the four or the five seat. If we beat Tennessee, we're the four.
Starting point is 00:19:09 If we lose, we're the five. which means a 3.30 game, Friday, no matter what, Thursday if we're the 5 seats. So we're basically going to be in the 330 slot, I think, both days. Now, we could go up to a 3, we could go down to a 6, but I think the only way we go down to 6 is if we lose to Vandy. So as long as we beat Vandy, it's a 4 or 5, and it's basically whether or not you beat Tennessee. Yeah, and I want to beat Tennessee, but if they don't,
Starting point is 00:19:37 I'm not going to let that game get me down. You know, we've seen teams lose one at the end of the year and go on to win it. Also, there's the whole can't beat a team three times. So if we were to see them in Nashville, if they were winning that one in Knoxville, hope they do beat Tennessee. But I'm kind of getting ready in my brain for it to be a Thursday game. So that would mean you'd be the five-seed probably looking like playing Georgia. You'd probably be the five-seat against Georgia.
Starting point is 00:20:00 And then the four-seat could be anybody. I mean, it could be Auburn. It could be South Carolina. It could even be Florida. but I think we're I think we're you know there are other things that can happen but the most likely scenario is we are either the four or five based on what we do against Tennessee yeah and uh the the projection if everything is kind of chalk the top half of the bracket is all the teams we lost against and the bottom half is all the ones would beat so it has like LSU A&M now they would eliminate
Starting point is 00:20:27 each other but then Tennessee and South Carolina so it's kind of you get a little bit of revenge to her if it were to play out that way yeah you but a tough A tough road. A tough road. But you would get the chance to beat everybody that beat you. Who's up next? Randall is up first. Randall, how are you, Randall?
Starting point is 00:20:46 I'm doing good. How are you doing, Matt? Doing great. I was going to mention the SEC or SEC conference in general. I think like the coaching all around and the athletes, I believe it's probably the best I've ever seen in my lifetime. Yeah. I was kind of, it's kind of a question.
Starting point is 00:21:05 wish. Yeah, you probably have to go back to the 80s when you had like, you know, Chris Jackson and Dominique and Charles Barkley and all those guys Alabama had in the early 90s like Ori and Spreewell and went, you know, the coaches, Wimp Sanderson, Sonny Smith, Dale Brown. I mean, it's probably been since mid to late 80s to early 90s where the conference has been as good from top to bottom, Randall, as it is now. Yeah. Yeah, I was also, Also, you know, I mean, like if you had this team with the SEC conference back in like probably 2011, I think they would have won undefeated. Yeah, I don't know if they had gotten undefeated. But they would have, I mean, we only went undefeated once.
Starting point is 00:21:53 So, well, 2003, I think they went undefeated. But, but yeah, I mean, to your point, I mean, remember, let's not, we're going to finish fifth. So let's not, let's not act like we're a world beat. I mean, we're probably going to finish fifth in the conference. You know, more talented SEC is. Oh, no doubt about it. No doubt about it. The coaching.
Starting point is 00:22:13 And better coaching. The coaching has taken, and I appreciate to call, a huge improvement. I mean, just go through the coaches that I think are undisputably, indisputably, indisputably, undisputably, indisputably, really good coaches. I don't know. Is it in or un? Now that I said it out loud. It's the undisputable.
Starting point is 00:22:33 I need to type it. No, it's undisputable. weight champion of the world. So undisputably, um, great coaches. Bruce Pearl, Rick Barnes, Nate Oates,
Starting point is 00:22:45 Eric Musselman, are great coach. Then very good coaches. Chris Beard, maybe even Chris is a great coach, Buzz Williams, the dude at South Carolina, Lamont Paris,
Starting point is 00:22:57 you got to think is really good. I'd say Carolina and Florida are two up-and-comers. The dude, what's his name? Todd Golden. Todd Golden. They both came from small school. very young guys.
Starting point is 00:23:06 I mean, to put it a different way, what coaches do you know stink? Stackhouse. I mean, even the dude at Missouri who's not won a game, they were really good last year. He was on a bunch of lists after last year. So, I mean, I feel like Stackhouse is the only coach in the conference where you'd go, well, he's not very good. And even with him, Mike White's Georgia, you know. Even with Stackhouse, it could just be, it's Vandy. I mean, you put anybody there and you're having a hard time winning.
Starting point is 00:23:33 Yeah, I agree. Except Kevin Stoller. Who won pretty consistently. Never should have let him go. But it's up across the board. Bruce Pearl was on CBS Sunday morning yesterday. That's how big it was. We're profiling Bruce Pearl with Jane Powell.
Starting point is 00:23:48 It was actually a good story. He's got a walk on that head cancer that he brought on. Oh, okay. I'm watching my Sunday shows. There's Bruce Pearl getting featured. Wow. You really like that CBS Sunday morning. It's like the oldest thing you do.
Starting point is 00:24:02 Yeah, it's just there for me. Jane Polly's not still. on it. Oh, Jane Polly is still there. She's still on it. I won't watch it if Jane has Sunday off. Get out of here, Mo or whoever else is on there? Mo.
Starting point is 00:24:12 I don't know. I just, I want Jane. It's not Mo Rocca, is it? He's on there occasionally. He'll fill in for Jane when she's out, but she's still the, uh... From the Daily Show? I think. Is that that the comedian?
Starting point is 00:24:26 He, he... No. Yeah. Really? He's on there. He's from, he's a comedian. Yeah, he's on the... So it's either Jane Polly or Mo Rock.
Starting point is 00:24:35 I got a couple others. It's a rotating cast. I'm on ESPN, so I never see it. You're missing out. Quit ESPN and watch Sunday morning with me. All right, we'll take a break. Be right back. This is KSR.
Starting point is 00:24:51 T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay. Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. I love Rick's music selection. Copy it out of my head. The good thing is he's playing music that we can insert in the podcast because there's no copyright on it.
Starting point is 00:25:07 Right, Rick? That's why you're out thinking everybody. That's right. Is it like now, you know, by not playing real songs, straight into the podcast. Yep. He's playing chess. Everyone else playing checkers. That's exactly right.
Starting point is 00:25:18 Doug and Lisa High are married. You have some facts. Doug's been an anchor there since 2009. Anchor where? At ABC 36. No, he has it. According to ABC 36. He's been there 15 years.
Starting point is 00:25:31 Yeah. And they don't even put his last name up. He should get his last name up. Well, I guess it's the same as Lisa's. So, okay. I'm going to catch some high noon today. Did you say he hosts another show? What's it called?
Starting point is 00:25:46 I closed the thing. Kentucky Historic Historical Treasures, I want to say. He hosts a show called Kentucky Historical Treasure. Kentucky History Treasures. Excuse me. That sounds actually, I think I would like Kentucky History Treasures. You know, not just talking about Doug here, but I've really taken an interest, mainly through this show and your book of Kentucky things.
Starting point is 00:26:10 I'm actually trying to be much more knowledgeable about Kentucky. I already am, but I like learning more and more and more. And there's always something new, right? Like there's always, you always can find a little tidbit about a county or a place that's different than you knew before, right? And I don't want to start our East versus West fight, but for most of my life, I'd never really gone past Lexington. Not that I didn't want to, just never really had a reason to get over there.
Starting point is 00:26:33 So when we started traveling Eastern Kentucky, everywhere we had been was brand new to me. Yeah. I'm broadening my horizons here. I think the rest of the state, if you saw the little television clip with Jeff and Stacey Shepard were like, man, Stacey's from the mountains, like her voice. Oh, yeah. Now that, that's a mountain voice right there. It is.
Starting point is 00:26:55 I mentioned that earlier with Billy. People, you know, we've read these stories in red quotes, but CBS, you got to hear that drawl she has from London. Yeah, that's, that is 606 draw, like. like through the through the thing they got more of my producers on ESPN Sunday morning when we were like about to start the show said to me I saw that thing about Reed Shepard's mom he was like she hadn't really talk like that does she and I was like yeah that's where people I that's what people where I grew up that's where people sound like and she they go really she was playing it up for the CBS I was like you need to meet DJ or Chris Mosley or or a lot of callers to the show Heather Oh, yeah, right. Your buddy DJ's probably my favorite. DJ's Boomhauer.
Starting point is 00:27:42 It's good. Yeah. Who's up next? Grover is up next. Grover. How are you, Grover? Hey, Matt, thanks for taking my call. They were on the pre-show, and they were talking about Coach Adolph Rupp had a nasty
Starting point is 00:27:56 letter box. I was Coach Rupp's last manager at Kentucky from 69 to 72. And Ms. Rollins, Jane Rollins, was his secretary, and she would get nasty letters. to coach rep. And he said, put them in a file. And when he had a good day, when he felt great, he'd say, Jane, bring in the nasty letters. And he would actually dictate answers, polite answers to these people because he felt like he owed it to him. So there was a nasty letter file. That's interesting. So like killing him with kindness, right? Oh, yeah. And he always signed it cordially, Adolf M. I like that. Cordially. That's a good one. He never, he never, he never told him,
Starting point is 00:28:34 you know, I know more about basketball in 40 years than you do or anything. He just said, let me coach the Wildcats, and you pay your $5 and we'll all be better off. And that's a way that's a little bit of shut up in the way that you do. But I still like the idea of writing the person and being nice. I appreciate the call. I do that sometimes on social media. It'll be somebody and they'll be like, like, there was a dude the other day. I think he played for Pikeville, baseball.
Starting point is 00:29:01 And he wrote me this thing, and he was like, You better beat, beat, beat. And I was like, first of all, that doesn't make any sense. But then I wrote him and I said, hey, man, good luck this year with Pikeville baseball. Hope you guys crush it. And then he was like, thanks, man. Because you don't know, like, you don't know what to say at that point. So trying to be kind in response is, I'm not saying, I always do it.
Starting point is 00:29:27 But I think that's the best way you can do. Well, we had the guy call in and tell us our wings are repulsive and we're repulsive. And remember a few weeks ago? Yeah, I think he was just being a troll. You're like, whatever you got going on, man, hope it gets better. Yeah. What do you say to that? Well, I mean, because clearly something.
Starting point is 00:29:41 I mean, our wings aren't impulsive, so he's got his own issues. I mean, I knew he was lying at that point. I mean, say, I'm repulsive. Whatever. Call me what you want. Did you, so some people are mad about what I said on the pre-show, so I want to address it for a second, the Pistol Pete thing. All right, so Caitlin Clark broke Pistol Pete's record yesterday.
Starting point is 00:30:00 Now, the whole comparing the women's game and the men's game, like, I don't know what the, point of that is. But it is notable that she now has the most points of any D1 player ever. But I still think, like, you take the women's and then you take the men's. It's a different game. So you only get people, like, frustrated when you do it. With that said, I saw people trying to dismiss her by saying, well, Pistol Pete did it in three years and didn't have the three point line. And the three years part, I think is totally valid, right? Because back then, freshmen weren't eligible, right? So it wasn't like he had, he made a choice not to play.
Starting point is 00:30:34 but I do want to address something on the three-point line. This is, and I know a lot of our older fans are going to get mad at me about this, because no one, there is no player in the history of college basketball that didn't play for Kentucky, that Kentucky fans like more than Bistol Pete. Right? I mean, they love it because he was so fun to watch, right? So far ahead of his time. He was, that's the best way to put it.
Starting point is 00:30:57 He was way, way ahead of his time in terms of how he played. and he was also the first dude since the SEC was segregated, I think still at that point or just starting to be integrated. He was the first player you saw a lot of people saw play like that in the SEC. With that said, I'm not dismissing him, but I do think some stats need to be noted. He shot 38 times a game. Now, he scored 44 points a game, which is crazy.
Starting point is 00:31:31 44. but he did Drew shoot 38 times a game. So let me just give you a little context of that. You know who averaged the most field goal attempts at Kentucky of my lifetime since 1978? Jody Meeks. And would you like to know how many field goal attempts he averaged? How many? 16.
Starting point is 00:31:52 Pistol Pete averaged two and a half times more field goal attempts than anyone we've had in the last 40s. years. Jody Meeks that year averaged 23 points a game. If he shoots it twice as much, does he score 46? Maybe. Possibly. So I do think it's worth noting if you're going to go, well, he didn't have the three point line. It's also worth knowing he shot it every time he came down the floor. He shot it 38 times a game. That's at least worth noting. So you're saying, And Caitlin has a slight advantage with the three. He has a slight advantage by being a complete ball hog. And people go, well, he had six assists a game.
Starting point is 00:32:40 Probably because, like, he had to pass in that moment. I mean, I didn't see the games, granted. But, I mean, 38 shots a game is crazy. And, like, you know, now they do efficiency points per shot. Antonio Reeves has something like 1.6 points per shot or 1.5. You know, Pistol P was at 1.1 or 1.08. We've had a lot of players that were more efficient than that. So it's just worth noting.
Starting point is 00:33:10 I'm not downplaying it. But if you're going to downplay Caitlin by going, well, he didn't have a three-point line. Note that he shot 38 shots a game. I don't think anyone should be down playing Caitlin. That's a remarkable thing she's done and is still doing. And it's going to be fun watching her the next couple weeks. But I feel like you woke up and chose some Pistol Pee Violence. I'm not choosing Pistol Pete Vines.
Starting point is 00:33:28 I just, my mentions were full of people last night. because I'd written something going, oh, well, he didn't have three-point line. It's like, okay. All right, who's next? Got Daniel up next. Daniel, go ahead, Daniel. Hey, Matt, this is the fan who was in the back of the truck. Oh, this is Daniel from the back of the truck.
Starting point is 00:33:48 Okay, Daniel, great to talk to you. So, Daniel, tell me exactly. When did you leave the arena? So it was when we got down nine, I think Arkansas. had gone on a big run. And I'm sitting with my buddies. And, you know, without saying anything, I was gone. But they know.
Starting point is 00:34:12 And, like, the crazy thing about it is, like, this is, like, normal behavior for me. So you do this regularly. You leave the arena a lot when we're behind? Well, to be honest with you, Matt, I don't get out to a whole lot of games. Like, I'm a student here, and I didn't get the season tickets this year. But I normally watch it at my house. But, yeah, I'm kind of. So, like, when you're at your house.
Starting point is 00:34:32 else. Do you ever walk outside if we're losing? You know, I guess it just like depends on the game. In the past, yeah, like the St. Peter's game. Sorry to bring that up. But spring break, I was with a group of friends. And it started getting close. And it's like, man, I just, I can't do it. I did it.
Starting point is 00:34:54 St. Peter's game. I got my car and drove around New Circle Road for an hour. So I know exactly what that's like. So you're on there. I saw you. You're standing. You're listening on the radio. Your head is down.
Starting point is 00:35:06 You look like you're miserable. But did you feel like you changed the mojo when you left the arena? I think so. Here's a stat for you. I am plus 18 when I am not in the Roperina. That's a good plus. It should be in the box score. Do you think, Drew?
Starting point is 00:35:26 Plus 18 when Daniel leaves the arena. So, and then you found out you were. We're on the social media on my post. How do you feel about people saying that your picture is kind of the epitome of what it is to be a UK fan? I think that's right, Matt. I mean, I think what makes the DBN so special is, you know, we have fans like me and you who's life or death, it feels like sometimes. Like, and especially on a Saturday game early in the day, you know, you don't want to kill your Saturday night, you know. And plus getting so close to March.
Starting point is 00:36:05 He wants to be able to party on Saturday night, you understand? It's not as much fun to party if we lose. I understand that. Two Saturdays a year. Well, Daniel, it's great. Thank you for calling, first of all. And we're talking about actually taking your picture, Daniel,
Starting point is 00:36:19 and maybe hanging it up at the bar. We don't have a picture just of like a fan. You know what I mean? Like the fan experience. I think that picture I took would be a perfect thing to hang up here somewhere Whereas what it looks like to be a fan at UK. Are you cool with that if we do it? Yeah, dude, that's perfect, man.
Starting point is 00:36:36 That'd be awesome. All right. Well, thank you, Daniel. Yes, we need you to sign it, Daniel, if you would. Yeah, yeah, for sure. Yeah, just let me know. Yeah, I will call your agent. Thank you, Daniel.
Starting point is 00:36:47 I appreciate the call. Yes, sir. You go. You never know. You never know. People, everybody in the news, they always end up calling the show. Maybe the high couple will do it as well. I like he has is a plus-18.
Starting point is 00:36:58 That's a good plus-monist. For one game? Yeah. I think Z was plus 21 or something. Got to keep tracking that. That's right. Hey, always on the run. Are you hitting the gym, practicing yoga or playing tennis?
Starting point is 00:37:08 Well, athletes know sports and exercise can cause pain, but court physical therapy, make sure you get your physical therapy needs without a doctor referral. Stop being in pain. Court can help you. Over 75 locations around the state. Go to court.com. That's k-O-R-T.com. Once you start driving around the state, you'll look around and they'll be like,
Starting point is 00:37:27 there's a court, there's a court, there's a court, because they are. everywhere k-or-t-t-com we'll take a break be right back's k-tuggy sports radio welcome back tegis sports radio saw dug and lisa promo again they're getting a lot of run they are could you do a tv show with your wife uh i mean we could but i wouldn't want a job with my wife just in case of that went wrong you got to go home if you had a bad day but what if she like if if she had a bad show you're like listen you got to step because you know sometimes sometimes i have to look at ryan i'm like ryan you've got to do X.
Starting point is 00:38:10 Like we have that conversation about once every two months. I'm like, Ryan, you have to watch the games. You know, Ryan, you have to blah, blah, blah. And he handles it well. But I don't know that if I had a wife, it would handle it well if I'm like, wife. Because also Ryan sometimes says he watches the games. And I know he didn't. He quickly tells on himself.
Starting point is 00:38:29 But if it was my wife, I think I would know. I'm like, you were in the other room. Well, that's what I mean, anything work-related. I wouldn't want to have difficulties at work, Because then any work things you want to go home and not deal with it, and then it's the same person. And then what if like this happened at ESPN? It was a husband-wife duo, and they fired the husband and kept the wife. You're setting yourself up for stuff like that.
Starting point is 00:38:52 It's just I would want the two-sept. Now, I think Abby and I think we could have a funny show. I just wouldn't want to work with my spouse. Yeah, I don't think I would want to do that either. One person writes, Matt, I was at the game where Pistol Pete and Dan Essel both scored over 50. it was magical. I bet that was, I'd love to see that game,
Starting point is 00:39:10 like just to watch it. Because I think that was the game that Isle had the scoring record. And I believe, I could be wrong about this, but I think Pistol Pete scored more than him, but Kentucky won the game. And I think it was at Memorial
Starting point is 00:39:23 and it's like, my grandfather, I think, was at that game. I always said it was the best game you ever saw. I watch a lot of old games these days on YouTube. They're very illegal. Like sometimes they're upside down to not get caught, you know, stuff like that. Do you think we'll ever get a,
Starting point is 00:39:36 world where we can just on demand have Kentucky games. Well, there's different networks. There's a lot of games that are not, we're not filmed. But that's any, there's examples of old ones that I want to watch so bad. They're just, I, are they just, yeah. I mean, I wish they. It'd be nice if UK basketball could do like what the WWE network does. Exactly.
Starting point is 00:39:54 Basically, everything that's ever been on the WWE, you can see. It would be nice if UK did something like that. One person writes, Matt, did you know that one game, Pistol Pete had 50 points and he shot 19% from the feet. How many shots did he take? I mean, with no three. Did he shoot 75 times? I mean, some of those would be free throws.
Starting point is 00:40:18 Yeah, you could do it if you don't know the free throws. But 19%? It's a lot. Okay, so let's just say, let's say he made 20 free throws. All right, so that would be 30 points. So that's 15. That means he at least shot 75 times. That's another game I want to say.
Starting point is 00:40:35 Where's his tape? I definitely want to see that. His dad was the coach, too. The more you talk about him, I think I want an astronaut on his record. I've just always assumed he's this legend. Well, he is a legend. No, you made him out to a ball hog coached by his dad. I'm making him out to be a ball.
Starting point is 00:40:51 He also had a ton of assists. But people forget Caitlin Clark is second in the country an assist. Who would win today, Pistol Pete versus Taylor. Well, I mean, Pistol Pete would win. That's not the point, though. The point is just to say, I don't like when people try to put an Astropew by modern records and then skip all the things about the old records. Again, most of the SEC when Pistol T. Pete did that was not integrated.
Starting point is 00:41:16 Okay. That should matter a little bit. You know, that should definitely matter. That should matter a little bit. So, like, you do have to, if you're going to do that with the modern people, you've got to do it with the older ones too. Who's next? Adam is up next.
Starting point is 00:41:30 Adam, go ahead, Adam. Hey, Matt, first time, long time. Who are? I just want to say thank you for all you do for BBN. I'm an outside Chicago resident, and you keep me up to speed with the Big Blue. Well, thank you. Graduated, 08 from Kentucky. Shout out to Drew.
Starting point is 00:41:51 Shout out, 08, Kentucky. Basketball wasn't great. I listened to you and Myron on Sunday up here, and you had me dying. Well, thank you very much. I appreciate it. You drove that show, and it was awesome. and I can't miss radio. Well, you're very kind.
Starting point is 00:42:08 Thank you very much. All right, go cats. All right, there you go. So he just wanted to give a compliment. I'm good with that. Maybe I knew them at UK when we were there. Maybe so. Who's next?
Starting point is 00:42:18 Casey is up next. Casey, go ahead, Casey. Hi, good morning, fellas. So whenever it comes to superstitions, in my house, my roommate and I, my mom, we have our assigned seats. So what gets weird, though, we have an exceptional, and she sits on the end.
Starting point is 00:42:33 So if she has a date over or something watching a game, they have to step beside me because that's our seat. But I have a quick fair or foul. I was talking to the guy. Wait a minute. Your mom's date has to sit next to you? Yeah, because we have a sectional, and she's on the in-cap of the sectional. And I have to sit to the right of my mom or we look. Okay, gotcha.
Starting point is 00:42:55 All right. Does your mom have a lot of dates over for the games? Like every game, different dude? Like if they win, they keep going. It's like a game show? When, keep going, lost, you're out? So, but I have a fair foul. So I have been talking to this guy, and we went on a couple dates, and I was like,
Starting point is 00:43:12 okay, it's time for him to see my Big Blue Nation love and watch a game together. He come over for the Auburn game, and he talked the entire game and then the entire post game show. Get rid of it. Yeah, get rid of him. This is, Casey, look, I appreciate the call. I've had two not serious relationships, but moderate dating situations in based on Kentucky games. One was her call.
Starting point is 00:43:37 One was mine. One was mine. I've talked about this before. Jody Meek scores 54 points against Tennessee, and it can't even get a reaction out of her. And I was like, you don't have to love sports, but this is history. This is the most points of all time. And she just looks at me. And she's like, I got a test.
Starting point is 00:43:50 Or she was like, she was like in law school. She was like, I got a test. I acknowledge history. I was like, but this is history. And she was like, okay. It's like landing. I was like, that's not going to work. And then I had another one.
Starting point is 00:44:00 one was there when I was watching a UK game and saw me, saw me jumping up and down and screaming and was like, you're too much right now. And then really never, never talk to me again. It's when you say no, you're too much right now. But you know what? My heart is with UK basketball. It's better in the long run. It is. Who's been nicer to me? Yep. You got to kiss a few frogs. That's right. We'll take a break. Be right back. Here at K.S. Bar. It's Kentucky Sports radio.
