beautiful day in lexie take kentucky come on out to the ks bar and grill and get some get some lunch some wings
some, you know, I keep hearing people talking to me about the sliders.
They say, you know, Matt, you were exactly right.
I want to give them our managers.
We have upgraded.
The wings were always really good, the queso, the cheese logs.
We had a couple things that weren't my favorite, and the boneless has upgraded quite a bit.
And then the burger slash sliders.
So I wouldn't.
We went, and fries, too.
We went in the off season.
And we were like, got to work on the work on some of these.
And they're all a lot better.
Yeah, we got in the lab.
We got in a lab.
The new fries are really good.
They're like the rallies fries.
Oh, yeah.
We've changed fries a few times to make sure they're, they're right.
We had a few just as singles.
We were like, we need to get you some extra bases here.
Yeah.
All right.
So let's go over a few things here.
First of all, a lot of people taking up for Pistol Pete.
What?
People love Pistol Pistol Pee.
Wait until, wait till 40 years from now, people talk about.
read that's how then you and i'll be right into the text machine go don't you say that fight people
don't you say that about rebe well reid's better pistol beats uh i agree doesn't shoot 40 doesn't
shoot 38 times a game does he nope trancey's women i mean i'm gonna say something else i was
i was getting worked up knowing what you're about to say i can't believe this so trancey's
women go undefeated last year they're 28 no this year they are the number two team in the
country i don't even understand how they're number two how are you number two when you won the title
year and you're defending champ.
You just keep beating people.
I mean, like, what else you want to do?
But fine, they're number two, NYU.
Ooh, NYU.
No, like anybody's ever heard of that school.
I mean, it is New York.
I understand.
They're number one.
Fine, whatever.
Make us number two.
But you would, the way they do the NCAA tournament for Division
three is the final four, they set in advance.
But then everything else is at home site.
I'm fine with that.
But you would think being the number two overall team in
the country that when you got to the Sweet 16, you'd be hosting. You'd be wrong. They are sending
Kentucky on the road, or Kentucky, trancy on the road in the Sweet 16 to Wisconsin Whitewater.
First of all, no one wants to go to Wisconsin, certainly not to Whitewater, but they're playing
on their court. Now, here, what do me tell you about Wisconsin Whitewater? 21 and 7,
they're 21 and 7 but they're 18 and 0 at home so clearly they're good at home but not good on the road 3 and 7 on the road 18 and 0 at home they're sending trancy there now when they asked why it was because there's another team in their little foursome that's also from wisconsin and they said it would be easier for the two teams in wisconsin to have two teams not have to travel as far
Now, first of all, Wisconsin, it's not like it's on the moon.
Like you could get here in a day from Wisconsin, but I am livid about my alma mater, Transylvania.
How in the world does a team that went undefeated last year and is undefeated this year have to go to Wisconsin Whitewater, who's 21 and 7 for the regional?
I really don't understand.
I first saw the headline going around and I was like, well, how is Transi not hosting?
They won 60-something straight games.
62 straight games.
So then I'll look into what you just said.
It's like, well, how I just assumed crazy four other undefeated teams.
Wild times.
You got to pick one.
No, they've lost games.
Like, I think they're ranked 10th in the country.
Transy's second, which is crazy in itself.
It blows my mind that this is happening.
And the other thing is the bracket, they set it up to where they play NYU in the semifinals.
There are two undefeated teams in the country.
Why not put them on opposite sides of the bracket?
They don't.
So they would play each other in the semifinals, which, of course, is a great,
Transi versus NYU would be funny.
But first, we have to go to Wisconsin Whitewater.
And I'm contemplating going to Wisconsin Whitewater just to scream at them.
Can I go to?
Because this weekend, the Tennessee game's on the road.
So, like, I kind of got a free weekend.
I'm contemplating.
I've never been to Wisconsin Whitewater.
But I'm contemplating going with a sign and saying, you NCAA cheater,
cheaters trying to hurt. I think they're doing it because they don't like me. You? Because I went to
Transylvania. It's very upsetting to me because it feels like how do you not get to host when you're
the back-to-back? And the whole like we're saving money for traveling. Transy has to travel.
Why does that save money? I don't know how you don't look at this as a good, it's a good thing for your
sport that you're defending champion that was undefeated is still undefeated. They have an amazing thing going
here down the street in Lexington, and you're making them go to Wisconsin, a team that has not earned it,
not even close to have earned it when you put the resumes side by side.
So I'm very anti that, and I just want to register my complaint.
Second, this was kind of cool.
I know you'd appreciate it.
Dan Soder, the comedian.
You know, he's married or engaged to Katie Nolan.
I did not know that, but I know who Dan Soder is.
The sports ones.
So Dan Soder, some of you, if you saw his face, if you watch the show,
Showtime show billions.
He was on that show, but he's a very funny comedian.
He's actually coming to Lexington Sunday.
Oh, I didn't know that either.
So I guess he has a new special on YouTube.
He goes on Joe Rogan's podcast.
And he mentions me on the podcast.
He says, a sports reporter had this video with this guy,
and he called him Cream Abdul-Jabbar.
And then he said, a sports reporter, Matt Ross.
And I was so excited.
that Dan Soder was going to give me a shout out on the biggest podcast in the country.
I mean, a huge pot probably would have vaulted me into superstardom.
Could have been the next Rogan guest.
It might have been the Matt Jones experience, but now it's going to be the Matt Ross experience.
So you know how you get a little excited and then bummed out.
So I tweet about it.
Did you see he responded?
I didn't see the response.
I saw your tweet.
He responded and said, hey, sorry, I was hot.
Well, there you go.
That settles it.
He's high.
You got to give a break.
So you have a very difficult last name.
I can see how he would forget your last name.
Ross, Jones, whatever.
So it was nice of him to respond, but so I don't know how to feel about that.
You get a shout out.
I mean, Joe Rogan's biggest podcast in the country, but now it's Matt Ross.
I see it as a way it should be fuel.
You're like, I'm big enough.
I've noticed, but not big enough.
I left a mark that they know my full name.
You got half my name.
I'm halfway to dance.
Halfway there.
Living on a prayer, then I might actually get the full name at some point.
So anyway, that was kind of a vibe.
But he plays Sunday at Comedy Off Broadway, five, I think the 730 sold out, but also at five.
So I'm going to, I may go see.
I didn't even know that.
If I'm not at Wisconsin, Whitewater.
You have a very, very busy weekend.
Yes.
And then the last thing.
I wanted to give a shout out to former, to an ESPN colleague who passed away, Chris Mortensen.
So Chris Mortensen, I mean, all of you who listening to this, who watch sports, you know Chris Mortensen.
He's been on ESPN.
He was on ESPN for 32 years.
He was their main NFL.
He was kind of Adam Schaefter before Adam Schaefter, right?
The main NFL, like, insider guy.
And super nice.
and it was very sad to hear he's past.
He's been sick for a while.
He said, I think, I don't know what he had, but he clearly had maybe cancer.
I'm not sure.
But he's been sick for a while.
And when I used to go to ESPN to do the shows on Sunday mornings, that was a very intimidating experience
because I didn't know.
I didn't know one person in the building.
And when it was over, I'd have to go watch the games in their little war room.
And we've talked about that.
It was very cool.
there'd be, you know, Randy Moss and Chris Berman and Tom Jackson and all these people I'd
seen and there'd be like four rows of seats and I would sit in the back. And, you know, most people,
they weren't rude, but they didn't talk to you. And then a couple people were a little rude at
various points. And I would always sit with Dan Orlovsky in the back because it was Dan's first year.
And the one person who was unfailingly nice was Chris Morton. He would come up to me every single
single time and he would talk to me about the Kentucky game the night before, which not only was it
nice of him to be friendly, he clearly was trying to relate. You know, I mean, like, he's a pro guy.
What does he care about the Kentucky game the night before? You'd always go, oh, I saw you beat Florida
or whatever. And it would just, it would be 30 seconds to a minute, but it always made me feel like,
oh, the front row of guys, because everyone's set in order of how popular he were. The front row of guys,
that dude is reaching out and being nice.
And everyone at ESPN has a story like that
of how kind he was to whoever it was.
So I was very sorry to see his past.
Yeah, I don't have any personal experiences,
but you weren't getting ready for NFL Sunday
without getting your Mortensen.
Yeah, the Morton Report.
Yeah, I mean, I think it's all he's been there as in 1990.
I don't know an NFL Sunday without hearing from Mort Report.
So, I mean, that's the guy.
You've had so many people come and go at ESPN in different stations,
but there are some.
You just, when you think of that network, you think of them and the sports they're covering.
He's in that category.
So rest in peace to Chris Mortensen, really, really nice guy.
Who's up next, Rick?
Nick is up next.
Nick, go ahead, Nick.
Hey, Matt.
How are you guys doing today?
Doing good.
Hey, I'm a retired Cisco food driver that across that bridge many times.
And I tell you what, this driver had to make a split decision,
a second decision
on which way she was going
either caused more chaos in front of her
or swerve to get
herself out of that situation
but my thing is
if it wasn't for that beam
that was across that back into that trailer
holding it up
that's crazy it would have gone over
of course it would have for sure
the weight the weight the weight
those Cisco trucks carries
you know, all those groceries, that's quite a bit of weight, and that's a 48-foot trailer there.
It was amazing.
And another thing is, I don't see how, see, on those Riefer trailers, they have 100-gallon tanks on fuel.
Yes.
And the way I saw that hanging on the bridge, I don't know if they had a fuel spill or not,
but if they would have had no hundred gallons going to that Ohio River, that would have been even more.
were disastrous.
It would have.
I appreciate the call.
I mean, it was amazing scene.
We haven't really talked about it,
but the firefighter is going to come on with this 1130,
Bryce Cardin.
What did you think of that?
I mean, when we saw it,
seen it happened right after the show Friday.
I mean, how did it not fall in the water?
I don't know.
Even before I knew the circumstances,
how I got to that point,
I was just thinking what she had to think.
Oh, my goodness.
You go over that edge,
and all you see is water,
and then something back there catches and leaves you day.
So I want you to think about what it had to be like.
after she does it and she's hanging there.
They said she was in there for 50 minutes.
I want you to think about what those 50 minutes had to be like.
First of all, you got to be like, how am I life?
Then you have to think, even though it probably wouldn't make a difference,
I'd be like, I can't move.
You know what I mean?
Like if I move, is it going to ups?
Because you'd say, again, maybe her moving would have had no impact,
but you don't know that.
sitting there and for those 50 minutes can you imagine how terrifying that would have been?
No, because you don't know what's behind you holding it in your brain at any split second.
This thing can still, it's still not over it.
At any split second, this thing could topple and fall in the water.
I was thinking, like, what do you, do you, is you, are you low enough to jump out and get out of the
truck?
Like, I was just wondering what the heck they could possibly do.
And then we obviously see what happens.
Well, he'll tell us about the.
But just for what she's going through where, like he said, she makes the split decision,
and you're barreling through and you're just looking at river and everything's beyond your control
and something catches.
I'd be like sitting there going, like try.
I mean, do you reach down for your phone?
Like, do you shift?
And then how did it?
It clearly, like, held against that beam, but how?
Like, you look at the leverage of it and you think, how did that not flip?
A miracle.
They could probably do that, simulate that a hundred times and have it landing in the water, many of them.
them. I just, that was one of the more miraculous things. And by the time I saw it, she was already
saved. But, you know, they apparently showed it live on TV. And I bet that was some tense television
watching the guy get late, lower down there. Yeah, we were driving back from Lockridge Park.
Yeah.
So I got home and I have just several texts and I turn on national news and they're still talking
about it. Just that image is crazy. And it's amazing that they're able to recover. Again, what a cool
thing to be able to be proud of, the rescue workers there.
I mean, we're going to talk to Bryce, but I mean, there were other people involved, too,
and being able to actually talk to Craig, the mayor last night and just said, man, what was
that like?
And he goes, it was really nice to have, like, a positive moment to celebrate for the city.
And I do think the city should celebrate.
Like, that's, it was almost, it was almost a tragedy, and it got saved.
I'd say the odds said it should have been a tragedy.
Yeah.
They were able to get her out of there.
Okay.
Hey, with all eyes on basketball, the times now to get in on the action with Draft King's Sportsbook

We have a bird on the patio.
There it is.
I can see it.
Look at that right there.
Yep.
You see the bird?
Get out of here, bird.
I've spent many hours getting birds out of the office.
At least it's not in the restaurant.
That's hard to get out.
In the patio, it's got that little thing and it can get out, but it's just sitting there.
He heard about slaughters.
Get out of here, bird.
It chirps a lot, too.
It's a loud bird.
That's the only problem.
It is.
We'll get it taken care of.
It's all right.
We'll talk to people.
859-28027.
I've had 45 people right on the text machine.
Matt, how are you not going to talk about the Trump decision?
I already did, didn't I?
You led the show with it.
But I will say it was the right decision.
You know, the law is, I say this all the time.
The law is different than politics.
Politics, one thing, the law is the law.
There was a reason the decision was 9-0, and the liberals agreed.
The Colorado court got it wrong.
He should be on the ballot unless he is convicted of a crime that gets him disqualified,
and he hasn't been convicted yet.
So I don't think a court can say you did it until he is convicted.
Because if that were the case, what would stop people from doing it all the time?
So I think it was the right decision.
And then so, yeah.
You know, and people, the people act like I'd be shocked at that.
I said that I think wouldn't happen.
You have to actually, you know, the law is different than politics.
Or it should be.
It's not always, but it should.
You're innocent until you're proven guilty, right?
That's right.
I think I remember that.
You remember that from one of my ten jury duties?
From the law.
Hey, quick thing for the Kentucky fans.
say a prayer tonight for Alex Poitras.
He was playing in a basketball tournament, and he's had some,
according to a European basketball site,
has had been hit with some sort of virus that has caused his face to have,
like, I don't know what the word is,
but to have some sort of facial paralysis,
and they haven't said what, you know,
the long-term effects are,
but it seems like it might be a serious thing.
So prayers for Alex Poiters are a really, really good dude.
Yeah, I saw that.
late last night. It wasn't a lot of details. We haven't gotten a big update, but there's
concerned enough that a lot of those kind of Euro basketball and things have been tweeting
stories to it. So I hope he's okay. I hope he's okay. So prayers from all of us. We loved Alex.
Alex was a great kid when he was here. He's, you know, dad very close to Ryan as well. So
hopefully, you know, hopefully that ends up okay. One person writes, how about Aaron Bradshaw having a
big game? Do you think that's good for March? Yes. We've now had in the last six games,
If you think about it, we've had all three bigs have big games.
Ogo had a big game.
Z's had a couple.
Bradshaw had one.
You know, I think there's a lot of folks that kind of do the, well,
always play this guy or always play that guy.
I'm guilty of that sometimes.
But it's nice to see all three of them have games where they matter
because, you know, in the tournament we might need all three of them.
Yeah, and we focus on the run that was Rob and Edwards and Z to end the game.
But they ended the first half.
I think Bradshaw was like,
12 points and pretty quickly.
I think he had nine points in four minutes.
Yeah, he really led it up there at the end.
And like you said, right when you think a guy might not be his time to get any more minutes,
might be going the other way, he steps forward and raises his hands, says, I'm not going anywhere.
Same with DJ Wagner.
For me, until Rob went crazy, he was the story of the game.
Four threes.
Second game in a row, he hit the start, got the first points on the board with a three.
I did that in the second half, too.
So his shooting slump seems to be behind him.
Oh, yeah.
and Antonio Reeves just had 24 points again.
Five in a row.
24 points again, and he's like the sixth story of the game.
Think about it.
There was more conversation about Dillingham, Wagner's 3s, Z, Bradshaw, and Justin Edwards
at the end of the game, and yet Antonio Reeves had 24 points.
I was sitting there, even texting with some friends, it's like, how is Antonio not in the game?
And then you look at the game, you're like, well, we're rolling right now.
That's why he's not in the game.
So Cal even admitted afterwards, he said my intention was to get him one minute because he had no rest until that point.
But then that's when Dillingham checked in and went off.
So he had to sit.
It made sense.
I mean, he was, Dillingham was killed him, 24 points.
And didn't even play the last six or seven minutes of the game.
And Trey came back.
He didn't play well.
He didn't play well.
It's crazy.
They went with five freshmen into game like that.
Who's up next?
God, Glenn up next.
Glenn, go ahead.
Glenn.
Hey, Matt, long time.
A listener.
First time calling.
Who are?
Hey, did you see where Shepard, when he bounced past to Edwards, and it bounced off Edwards hands, went out of bounds.
And then he comes right back and he bounced past, passes, he's out of bounds.
He's taking the ball out of bounds.
He pounce passes at the Wagner for the layup.
Yes, it was they ran the same play twice and got a wide open layup both times.
Yeah, exactly.
But did you see where he bounced it out of bounds?
to Wagner.
Is that illegal?
And if it is illegal, I'm glad they missed it.
It is.
If he did that, it is illegal.
I didn't notice it.
But if he did it, you're not allowed to bounce the ball out of bounds.
I didn't notice that.
Yeah, he didn't do it to Edwards when he fumbled it out of bounds, but we got the ball back.
But then the next time, he did bounce out.
I'll rewound it.
And sure enough, he bounces it out of bounds to Wagner for the layup.
Oh, I didn't notice it.
Well, I'm glad they didn't catch it.
I'm glad he didn't catch it.
Me too.
Well, I appreciate the call.
Did you notice that?
I remember the baseline plays.
We were high-fiving about some of the baselines Kentucky ran, but I didn't catch that it was.
I love that they ran the same play twice and it worked both times.
If you were an Arkansas fan, that would really frustrate you.
If they literally run the same play two times in a row and get it both times.
That's what we were high-fiving.
We were used to see in Kentucky give that up earlier in the season.
It's like, yeah, rolls are reversed.
We're doing it now.
Yes, 859-2-80-27.
Who's next?
Steve is up next.
Steve, go ahead, Steve.
Hey, Matt.
You know, one of the things I admire about Kaelan Clark so much is her great passing.
I mean, she, not only is she a gifted score, unbelievable range, but she's a tremendous passer.
Yeah.
And throw the ball into, thread the ball into tight coverage.
and, you know, much the way Pete was,
Pete was, if you go back and watch those highlight reels, Matt,
and you can find them on YouTube.
Steve, I just got 10 seconds.
It's really quick.
Yes.
Kentucky games.
You know, he's a, he and Ernie DeGiorio best passers I've ever seen.
What's, it is.
And then Larry Bird.
Yeah.
I appreciate to call, Steve.
Sorry, I'm glad to go to break.
Steph Curry is another dude like that, who can score and also throw some amazing passes.
When we come back, Bryce Cardin, he's the firefighter that helped rescue the woman on Friday.
He will join us.
UK fan on the show.
We'll be right back, Kentucky Sports Radio.
T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney.
Call T.J., he'll make them pay.
Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Here's Matt Jones.
Welcome back, Tucky Sports Radio, 859, 280, 2287.
We are now happy to be joined on the phone by Louisville Firefire Bryce Cardin.
He was the young man who helped rescue the woman in the semi truck on Friday over the bridge.
Bryce, I also hear you're a UK fan, so that's even better.
How are you doing today?
Well, how are you?
Yes, sir.
A longtime UK fan.
My parents actually both went to the University of Kentucky along with my sister.
That's where they met at.
And we were seasoned ticket holders growing up.
to set through the dark ages of tough UK football, but now with Mark Stubbs getting it back on track,
it's been a fun few years and enjoying the basketball, of course, always.
That's awesome.
You played baseball at Pikeville, is that right?
Yes, sir.
I was at the University of Pikeville.
Well, good.
All right.
Well, so obviously, I mean, it's got to have been crazy for you over the last few days.
I heard you were on Good Morning America this morning.
When you got up Friday morning, let's go back to Friday morning, you get up Friday morning.
Would you ever have imagined your last 72 hours?
No, I would not.
Actually, I was joking with my wife because we have a one-and-a-half-year-old that doesn't like to sleep too much.
So I was a little tired waking up that morning.
I told my wife, I said, we had been super busy here at the firehouse with just, you know,
runs and house fires and everything throughout the colder months.
And I told my wife, I said, you know what?
I just want to eat two meals, work out and relax.
I said, I hope we don't make anything today.
And then an hour later, an hour later, we get knocked out on that, which I know, at this.
this firehouse, we're extremely busy.
Our engine runs about 4,000 calls a year in the truck company.
We're on assigned to three thousand calls a year.
So I know that there's never really any slow days around here, but it's fun to joke.
Well, that one was probably bigger than the other.
So let's walk through the day.
So tell me what happens when you get the call.
And then, okay, I'm going to play the dumb guy because I am on this stuff, but I bet a lot
of people are too.
So I'd like you to walk me through it.
So you get the call that something has happened.
And then what goes into effect?
So we run a rescue company.
We double as engine two, truck one, and rescue two.
Well, the tough thing about this call is that engine two is at a training at drill school across town.
We were actually headed to Kroger because we go to the store every day.
So we were all out of sorts, you know, a little bit behind the eight ball.
But being a rescue firefighter, I know that, you know, I always have to be ready for the call.
So we got the call, you know, initially that there's a semi hangout of the bridge.
So you're kind of getting your mind right like, okay, this might actually be something.
When we get back to quarters where we grabbed our rescue truck from, I went ahead and suit it up.
And Captain Wren turned around and said, you know, you're my guy.
Like, get your mind right.
Let's go.
You're going to be going over the edge, you know, essentially.
So I'm running through a mental checklist in my head.
Just like, you know, playing a game.
You know, you're running through what you need to do.
You know, all the reps kind of lead up to this.
And I was just putting the situation at the right.
time and with good guys around me I was able to make it happen so you arrive at the scene and then what
they explain to people how you ended up sort of dangling there where were you where did you come from um so
as you said we arrived on scene I was uh I was the rescue guy and uh there was a lot of people tying up
ropes we we used an aerial ladder and so I get to it you know they they start hooking me up and uh
raise me up and uh drop basically just dropped me down to her you know I was
in the hands of the guys above me and it all comes back to trust you got to just like you know
you know on a team you got you got to trust the guys behind you that they're going to get it done
and um they hook me up they dropped me down to her you know i made contact uh with the patient and
she was just thank you guys before you get to the patient part are you nervous like or is this
just like second nature i mean when they when you all the sudden are dangling and i know you're
locked in but you can look down and see that water like are you nervous well i think
it um you know how it is like when you get an adrenaline dump or anything like that you just kind
of that that second nature training just takes over we do a ton of training on this type of stuff
it's it's called a pickoff the the maneuver that we performed and we've done it i mean in the
hose tower we've done it off of buildings we've done a lot of training it goes all way back to
when you first get your rope certification and um it just kind of you know we put we put it all
together it's just like i was telling a guy i said this is like being in the batten cage
taking a thousand hacks and then you get up there in the bottom of the night your team got you
to the situation you got base loaded and you hit a grand slam like that's a that's the best analogy
for it like played a small piece and a big puzzle and uh it all it all came together at the right
had you ever had to rescue a person like in real life before um i've had i've had various stuff
happen i mean uh we we you know it happens sometimes not all the time but i mean i've i've been a
part of rescues before from house fires and stuff like that, but never, never anything dangling
off a bridge.
I've seen guys, you know, the guys who came before me, some of my senior firefighters make,
make rescues like this.
You know, we had one where some guys were at a tower about 300 foot up and they dropped
the guy down and grabbed them.
So I'm not the first person to do this.
Obviously, the first person to do it on national TV with, with a 18-wheeler, but guys who
it came before me have definitely allowed this, allowed this to happen.
So you get down to the truck, the truck, and you see her.
I assume she is terrified, am I right?
Like, how do you, how do you maneuver that and calm her down to where you can get,
you can get her?
So I've given a ton of grace to her, which it's, it's credit where credit is due.
She was a military veteran.
So she had a different, he had a different sense of being able to hold her emotions, I would say,
Like, she was calm.
I was able, I could tell, you know, obviously anybody in that situation is going to be freaked out.
But I was able to talk to her and, you know, calm her down and say, here's what I need you to do to help me.
Because without her, you know, without her being able to move her body and do some stuff like that,
then getting that harness on her makes it a whole lot more challenging and I have to crawl farther in the truck and that type of stuff.
So she was able to help me, you know, make the successful rescue.
And I had to cut her seatbelt off and do a few other things.
So it all just kind of came together.
helped me and I helped her.
And like I've said on a few other things, she started praying.
I was like, I was like, why don't you pray for both of us?
Because we're both on the end of this ladder.
So we were a little bit of a little bit of comedic relief at that moment to be like,
just pray for both of us.
So when you're with the picture we've seen of the two of you sort of hanging there,
you're both strapped in.
So on some level, like once that happens, did you feel like, I mean, I know you didn't
feel like it was over, but it's probably a little bit of a relief.
right?
It was a big relief.
I mean, there was a lot of variables that were coming into play that we've been talking
about that, you know, once you get back to top side, you're safe, you know,
once we were both on that rope together, obviously our chances of falling and stuff like
that or dying or whatever, you know, worst case scenario, turning to a dive operation,
the chances go down a little bit.
Yeah.
So, all right, so you come down, then all of a sudden, when does it hit you that it was on
national television. And when does the enormity of what happened actually hit you?
It didn't. I left my phone at the firehouse and I was joking. I texted my wife and said,
it's in my truck over the bridge. Here we go. And I left my phone actually at the firehouse
whenever we were switching over in the truck. And so, yeah, that's not a good way to leave it with
your wife. No, it's not a good way to leave it with your wife.
To live stream and she's watching it and she doesn't know that's me on the rope until about halfway
somebody text her and said hey that's bright and she she was feeding our daughter actually at that
time um and she she said that she just was like overcame with emotion obviously and started freaking
out um but um but yeah it was it was a bad way to leave her but it was funny now you know looking
back since everything was successful wow that is amazing i bet she you might owe her a dinner for that
one or something do you feel like it's interesting you it's interesting you said about her praying with you
Do you feel like you and this woman, like, have a bond in some ways from this?
I would say for sure.
I mean, like you spoke upon, I mean, this is probably a once-in-a-lifetime rescue, you know,
and for her to help me make it happen and for both of us to be safe,
it's definitely there's a higher power out there that was watching over us that day.
I would say a lot of people have mentioned it.
Like, I lost my dad six years ago suddenly.
He wasn't sick or anything.
He had a surgery that went bad.
He was the biggest diehard UK fan.
He wouldn't even, I'm telling you when I say he was a big UK fan,
he wouldn't even go to bars and watch the game.
He would sit at home and holler at the teeth.
I've been there.
Yeah, I know what that's like.
Hey, you know, I'm in Louisville.
So I got a bunch of Louis fans around here.
So he don't like, he has a bunch of buddies that are little fans.
But as soon as that game start, he was not a fan of being around any of them.
So he would watch it from home.
Well, listen, I'll tell you, this is true, Bryce.
this has happened, I've had probably four or five different people reach out to me that know you
from different things. And universally, every single person has talked about what a good human being
you are and how there was nobody better for this. And, you know, in a world that, like, continues
to be, like, at each other's throats, this is a really kind of neat moment for everybody to celebrate.
And I really, you know, congratulate you also all your teammates. You're not by yourself on it.
But congratulations on what you all have done.
Yes, sir.
I got to give a couple of shout out.
I got a shout out J. Rock.
I got a shout out Travis O'Dell, who's a firefighter with me who watched this show or listens to it.
I got a shout out TJ.
And then my buddy, Trey Rake, who you probably know, Junebug Rakes, who hit the game
winner on SportsCenter a few years back.
Oh, yeah, that's right.
I got to shout them out.
Those are some of my boys that are a long-time listener.
So it's pretty cool.
I appreciate you taking time to give me a call.
I can't believe you shouted out Jay Rock, of all people.
Well, it's very cool, Bryce.
Thank you.
Next time you're in Lexington, stop by the bar here and say hello.
Yes, sir.
I appreciate it.
Thank you, guys.
There you go.
Wow.
How about that?
That part about his wife not even knowing it's him while she's watching.
That's got to be crazy.
She gets that text message.
Like, my husband?
Oh, my goodness.
Can you imagine having to watch that in real time when you know it's your...
That's crazy.
Yeah, that's a lot.
Well, that's a very cool story.
All right.
So Ryan is supposed to do Stockton Mortgage right here, but Ryan is not here.
So, Drew, I think you're going to have to do Stockton Mortgage.
Tell me about it.
Oh, boy.
Well, Stockton Mortgage.
Now is a good time to buy.
Stockton.com.
They're in the MLS, right?
Not Major League Soccer.
Oh, I think it's insane.
In MLS.
I don't know what that means, but it means something.
Yeah.
What else?
You're going to have to help me a little.
We have locations.
Stockton Mortgage that.
Now's a good time for home buying.
We know that.
Markets hot right now.
If you go to Stockton.com and I think you hit Get Started, there's a button.
And you don't want to use the internet.
Like you can talk to a real person.
It's easier to buy.
You can get somebody on the phone.
Can't always get somebody on the phone with the other people.
But you do go to Stockton.com to get to the people.
You do.
But you go to Stockton.
com.
They're locations.
They're growing.
And there's one near you.
It's Stockton.
com based right here in Kentucky.
for your mortgage needs. It's Stockton Mortgage.
Did we leave any of his other lines out?
You know, you don't realize until he's gone that you're missing.
I think the only parts I'm picking up are the website and the NMLS.
You get the, you got the NMLS.
It's 285-2, just a guess.
Rick, what does NMLS stand for, Rick?
I don't know. I thought it was a soccer thing too.
Yeah, not Major League Soccer.
I'm going to guess we got a little mortgage.
Mortgage loans.
Oh, mortgage loans.
Mortgage license.
I bet license.
I'm going to go mortgage licensing service.
Why don't we look it up?
National mortgaging licensing service.
National mortgaging licensing service.
Stockton.
We'll take a break.
Be right back.
This is KSR.
Welcome back.
Final segment, KSR, 859, 28022.
We will be back.
Ryan will be back tomorrow.
Kentucky game is Wednesday this week against Vandy.
I ought to bring that firefighter.
there.
If Dad had tickets, that'd be nice, bring him out there, let him get an ovation, maybe
be the Y.
Yeah, let him have his moment.
You ready for a 9 p.m.
I absolutely hate that game at 9.
Me too.
The conference tournament bracket, you know, March Madness begins tonight.
Did you know that?
Oh, I didn't know what was already here.
The Atlantic Sun conference starts tonight.
Do you know who the favorite is for the Atlantic Sun?
I probably can't name an Atlantic Sun.
Yes, you can.
No, I can't.
Who are they?
Yes, you can. You can also name the favorite.
Who is it? Eastern Kentucky University.
Come on, Drew Franklin. You knew better than that.
I'm sorry to A.W. Hamilton and everyone over there.
KU.U. is the odds-on favorite to win. The tournament starts tonight.
It's like Kennesaw State plays Jacksonville, I think. But the conference tournament week, two weeks, begins today.
Well, I apologize to the colonels again. I will be watching them.
They play a fun brand of basketball, too. So be rooting for them.
keeping up with all the others. And I think on fade this, we'll be breaking it all down.
Yeah, so Wednesday we're going to do fade this. We're going to pick all the conference winners.
Well, we'll pick half of them this week and then half of them next week before we head off to the SEC term.
SEC tournaments next week. Can't wait. I got a Nashville and wedding this weekend to warm me up for more Nashville.
We'll be there Wednesday. I love Wednesday night so much. I can't wait for Georgia versus whoever.
Vandy,
Missouri, Vandy, Missouri, Georgia, and Arkansas this year.
That is a poor, poor group of teams this year.
Who's next?
Got Justin up next.
Justin, go ahead, Justin.
Yeah, first time I got is, if college basketball wanted to really stop the court storming,
couldn't they put the glass up like cocky?
I think that's a little much probably to do that, but yes.
Well, second time I got, of course you remember Bobby Perry.
Yes.
And you remember when he wore the face shield?
Yes.
Okay, the boy I went to high school with from the 606,
give him a one piece at a party one night,
and he wore that the rest of the season after that.
And my question, I guess, coming off that is,
how much percentage of Kentucky injuries in sports general
that comes from maybe extra career activities?
And I'll hang it up.
Oh, is he saying Bobby Perry got hurt at a part?
Marty?
Oh, yeah, he got that one piece.
Yeah, he got that one piece from, boy, I went to school with.
Oh, he said one piece is a, like a punch, you mean?
Yeah, that's a knockout.
Oh, wow.
Yeah, well.
Yeah, that one page.
No, I've never heard that story.
I'm not, I appreciate the call.
I mean, we knew Bobby.
I didn't know him at that moment, but knew him right after that.
I didn't know, allegedly he got a one piece.
That is an interesting question.
We'd never have the answer, but there's got to be.
thinking one piece, like a one piece swimsuit.
And I was like, you got punched by a woman in a bathing suit.
No, no, I thought he was saying, because you say he wore it the rest of the year.
I was like, he wore a one piece swimsuit the rest of the year.
I have no memory of this.
Sound like you just got one punch.
A little two piece, a little combo there.
But there's probably a lot of injuries where we don't have the full story.
Some may be unrelated.
There's been some crazy ones in baseball.
It didn't a guy like sneeze and a pitcher injure himself.
Yeah.
Also, remember, the thing is Bobby didn't have like,
Ty Winyer didn't have his body card.
It's true.
And we don't know this is true.
We're not just going to let the world assume Bobby took place.
We don't know.
We don't know.
We don't know that.
We do know cornbread hemp is great.
And so if Bobby Perry needed it after that, what didn't exist because it wasn't legal,
but now it is.
Cornbreadhip.com promo code March, you remember, you get 30% off and you get your,
my grass is blue t-shirt, which a lot of people want and have said, Matt, I already, you know,
take it.
How do I get the t-shirt?
and I don't know what to tell you.
But go to cornbread hemp.com and get a friend who's never used it to do it.
It is cornbread hemp.
Dot com.
My grass is blue.
Who's next, Rick?
Got Bob up next.
Bob, go ahead, Bob.
What are you saying, guys, I enjoyed the show down at Lockridge.
Matt, you always want to challenge Ryan and Drew.
Would you chaw, they're going to put that zip line across the Harrington.
I've zipline before.
I got no problems with zipline.
We zipped all in Alaska.
We ziplined in Alaska.
I've zipline many times.
Ziplines don't actually scare me.
I jumped out of a plane, Bob.
Me and Drew jumped out of a plane.
We're not worried about zipline.
Oh, you've parachuted?
Wow.
I didn't know you're up for that,
but that zip line looks like it'll be a pretty neat challenge.
No, it will be cool.
I appreciate it.
That Lockridge Park will have,
I think that'll be really nice when they get the zipline there.
Yeah, I mean, Drew and I jumped out of a plane.
People don't, you know, with the, what were they called?
Knights?
Golden nights.
Sometimes we just go out and zip lining for fun.
Sometimes I'm like Matt.
You have to stop ziplining.
We have a show coming up.
It's how often you're out doing extreme sports.
That's right.
We did in Alaska, too.
I forgot about that.
Who's next, Rick?
Got Peggy up next.
Peggy, I just got like a minute.
Quickly.
Hey, enjoyed being at the bar
of the other night for the game.
Thank you.
But I got a question.
Have you all ever noticed when Reed
Dunk?
crosses his feet.
I have.
He does that.
The two-hand donkey crosses his feet.
He does.
His dad did that too, didn't he?
In that famous picture,
he's crossed his feet.
That must be a gene, Peggy,
the feet crossing the gene.
Yeah.
Okay.
I just wanted to.
No, I don't know that I'd processed it.
I appreciate the call, but you apparently had,
and it's cool.
Like, the whole Reed thing is really cool.
I had someone tell me.
They're like, Matt, don't speak definitively on him to the draft.
And I was like, they're like, just not saying, just saying.
So I'm going to probably have to dial it back a notch because this person knows generally what they say.
If anyone's crazy enough to do it, it's Reed Shepard to come back from work in Turkey.
Maybe so. Maybe so.
Hopefully we win a title, though.
And it doesn't matter.
He waves goodbye.
Yeah, waves goodbye going into the sunset.
Thank you folks very much for listening.
We will see you tomorrow.
Enjoy your Monday.
I'm on ESPN 7 to 10 tonight if you get bored.
