This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter.

Starting point is 00:02:17 Now here's Matt Jones. Welcome everyone at Kentucky Sports Radio. I'm Matt Jones on a rainy Tuesday, February, March the 5th here at the KS Bar and Grill. We got a full house, Ryan Lemon and Drew Franklin. We are wonderful, well, it's not a wonderful day. It's a nasty day, but I got up this morning and drove from Louisville to be with you folks. And it is nice to be here this morning. You can give a shout.
Starting point is 00:02:42 Shannon is still sick with whatever it is he has. So Rick is there, 859-280-2287. The A-Vision Auto Glass Text Machine is 772-7-745254. And this is sponsored by the T.J. Smith's office. If you call T.J., he'll make them pay. Rick, normally on Tuesdays, I do a thing that's like a 30-second shot clock, and then we hit a buzzer to stop people. Now, Shannon is not here, so I wanted to ask you before we got started, do you think you could handle the buzzer system? Yeah, where is the buzzer?
Starting point is 00:03:18 I don't see it on the board. That's a tough start to the buzzer system, is where is the buzzer? What do you think, Drew? I don't know where it is. Do you have the things that have all the sounds? You know that on the computer there? Yeah, on the button bar, I'm looking, but I don't see anything it says buzzer. I have an idea.
Starting point is 00:03:35 How about instead of a buzzer, whatever button he hits is the buzzer. Yes, okay, so you've got the sound bar. So just hit like a random sound on there. Okay, I can do that. Now, just do it right now. Hit one. Okay, so there you go. So what we'll do is you can hit the sounds throughout,
Starting point is 00:03:58 and it can be whatever sound hit a different one every time and it'll be like that for the buzzer okay okay i can do that and it's a 30 second clock so as soon as they get started they have 30 seconds and then you you buzz them or it'll be whatever sounds you have does that is that work yep i can do that rick is gonna like he's gonna make it to where we don't even need shannon drew because rick is gonna he's got it down he can't find the buzzer but the rest of them will be fine look at this smile i don't smile like this early i'm so excited for rick's moment to uh step up and be the game show host today for our 30 second shot clock i think it's going to go this is exciting yeah it seems like it seems like you are excited ryan is back uh how was houston it was it was it was big i i didn't know
Starting point is 00:04:41 houston was that big it was fourth largest city in the united states and i would have not thought it was not even close why wouldn't you have thought i would have thought you know atlanta but i mean houston's been that for a while i didn't know that i mean i was i was what do you think are the biggest cities like if i were to just say to you Rank for me the top seven. Okay. What would you think they are? I'd say New York City.
Starting point is 00:05:03 Okay. Los Angeles. Okay. Chicago. So you got a good start. And then I guess now, Houston. Well, I mean, now you know that. Yes.
Starting point is 00:05:11 Okay. Then what? I would guess Atlanta. Yeah. I don't think so. No. I'll look it up. I actually don't know after the top four.
Starting point is 00:05:18 I knew the four, but I'm not sure. I would say Atlanta, and then I might say Dallas. Okay. And then I might say, ooh. Philadelphia, maybe? I don't know Philadelphia is that big, but... It's like we have Phoenix. Yeah, Phoenix is fifth on the list I'm saying here.
Starting point is 00:05:39 Then a little Philadelphia. Yeah. A little San Antonio. See, people... San Antonio is a lot bigger than people think. I wouldn't have thought that. Yeah, so it's New York, L.A., Chicago, Houston, Phoenix. You got Philly with Closed, San Antonio, San Diego, Dallas, and then...
Starting point is 00:05:55 So Atlanta's not even in the top ten? Well, with all of these things, it's like, it's hard to know because it's a difference between metro area and the city itself. Because some of these cities, like Cincinnati as a city is actually very small, but when you include the whole metro area. So it's hard to know sometimes. Yeah, same with Louisville. They include all those towns around. Yeah, you include southern Indiana and all that. So it depends on what you're doing.
Starting point is 00:06:21 I'll tell you this, they drive like absolute madmen in Houston. All the freeways. They're going like 100 miles an hour in like these big Ford F-150 pickup trucks just all over the place. Scared me to death. Yeah, if you include metro area, it's Chicago, then Dallas, then Houston, then Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, Atlanta, Miami. Okay, makes a difference. So it does make a difference if you include that. Well, it's good to have you back.
Starting point is 00:06:46 You miss the Kentucky Arkansas game and all of the excitement that came from it. Last night, well, first of all, we also had the first of all. We also had the firefighter, Bryce Cardin, on. I have a good piece of news, Drew. Oh. Commonwealth Causes, which is an advertiser on this show, of course, does NIL stuff with UK at KY Causes. They contacted me last night, and I helped them set up. They are sending Bryce Cardin and his wife to the game to sit second row behind John Calp.
Starting point is 00:07:20 Nice. What a great gesture it is of Commonwealth Causes. That's really awesome. So when I texted Bryce last night, he was very, very excited. They're going to come to the bar before. Yeah. He and his wife and his buddy and his buddy who's also on the firefighting team and his wife are going to come to the bar for the pregame tomorrow night.
Starting point is 00:07:40 So how about that? They will be right behind the bench. Somebody at UK or even with the TV SEC Network should like note that they're there. I mean, I'm giving you all gold here in terms of. of note that the guys there in the second row tomorrow night. Yeah, the announcers need to know it. They need to showcase him during the broadcast. I mean, this is a great gesture they're doing because that story is everywhere.
Starting point is 00:08:05 So it's awesome for Commonwealth College. I mean, that's a pretty good seat. Second row behind John Calpair. Yeah, great seat. Very nice thing to do that. But forget the TV. Make them the Y. Let's get him at mid court.
Starting point is 00:08:15 Let's do the whole celebration. I would think it's worth it. I mean, it's a national story. You know, I can't force them to do it, but it will feel like it's right there in your wheel. house, right? And then bring the kid who stood out on the truck. He should get to do it too, Daniel, whatever, because that's also, you know, those are two iconic images of last week. No, I got to ask you about that because obviously I knew the firefighter story. That was everywhere.
Starting point is 00:08:43 But then I see your tweet of the dude, where was he? Like, where was it? Outside my house. That was outside your house. In Lexington, yeah, right. Close to the roof. Outside the patio, right? You know, when my back patio, you've been in my house. It's just, oh, it's just, outside of my house. It's just, outside of my house. over where people park there. So do you think he left the game and just went out? He couldn't stand it anymore? I know. He called the show yesterday.
Starting point is 00:09:01 Thanks for listening. He, yes, he got nervous and he left and he left and he stood outside. That's good. He was parked right where you can get backed into right behind Matt's. Oh, yeah. He just parked right there. That's become a very popular parking thing to the point that I've started to get angry at people. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:21 It was like a secret. It was. It was. It was. It was. It was. down there. Now of a sudden, you know, there were people like, there was a guy who tried to put at my yard. And I was like, this is a, this is grass. Do you not see? Like, the nerve of people
Starting point is 00:09:36 sometimes to think they can just throw a car in your grass and just leave it. It's like, who do you think you are? And he's like, oh, I'm just going to the game. Well, I know you're just going to the game. I didn't think you were leaving it overnight working on my lawn here. Yeah, You want to just watch the game in my house? I'll leave if it makes it easier for you. Like, what? Getting your shower. Yeah, I mean, it's fine.
Starting point is 00:10:00 That street has become like, okay, people park there, whatever. That's fine. It's public street. But, you know, they've now made it to where you can only park on one side of it, right? Yeah. And it used to be people would park on both. And you couldn't get out. So now you can only park on one side.
Starting point is 00:10:15 But this dude was like about to pull into my yard. And he was like, well, you don't mind, do you? We mean you don't mind, do you? Why don't you let Drew and I park? cars out there will make some extra money. I'm not out there trying to like run a business outside my I'm fine. This is not first of all, it's a neighborhood. It's, you know, you don't. It's not like, it's not outside Lambeau Field. It's a neighborhood. So anyway, I, uh, but that guy was in a, was in a legal spot and he was standing in the back of the truck. Well, our boy Daniels is allowed to park there
Starting point is 00:10:45 anytime he wants because it helped. If he wants to park in the grass, that's right. If he wants to park in the He's welcome to. This is the last game tomorrow night of the home game of the year. Last home game until September for Kentucky fans here. So, yeah, big night, senior night. So I hope it goes off in a big, big fun night. Yes. John Calipery did his show last night.
Starting point is 00:11:08 Swack. He's also, by the way, I think a guest on John Wall's podcast today, that Draft King's podcast. I think it's John Wall interviewing John Calpair. That'd be cool, actually. That'll probably be a really good episode. Yeah. The DeMarx one was great, and so he's got Cal on today. I hope he just does all UK players.
Starting point is 00:11:24 We get a brine long interview here soon. Don't you think that would be good? Yeah, and I hope Cal and Wall are just telling old stories like buddies. I don't need to hear about clutter or how many millions of the NBA. Just tell me secrets you've never told before. Yeah, that's what I want to hear. I want to hear that too. Cal last night said a couple things that I think are noteworthy.
Starting point is 00:11:43 First, he said some person called, and whoever this was, should probably have their phone plan. turned off called and said are you going to ever go back to the two big guys we'd like to see you play two big guys together and and when he said that i nearly called the authorities to go have that because like we don't we don't want that and cow to his credit said no i think i'm going four scores in a big from now on and i thought that was good news true oh that was that was so exciting for him to say it i mean he's already been doing it the last couple of games if you look at minutes in rotations. He's made that change.
Starting point is 00:12:20 But I think that's the first time he's set out loud, you know, rolling with four guards and then one of my big men. I mean, from a, from a player, from a standpoint of if you go into the season and we said, like, what are the things we would like to see him change? He has embraced shooting. I mean, we lead the nation in three-point shooting. It has taken him a little bit of time, but now he has embraced. I think when he got all those bigs, he still wanted to try the two bigs.
Starting point is 00:12:51 But now he's embraced that that's not going to work. So, I mean, I feel like, you know, if you say my only mild complaint has been not playing those three scoring guards together enough. But he's even been doing that. In the last game, I can't blame him because Dillingham was awful. And then he took Reeves out and Dillingham played well, so I can't really blame him for who he went with. So for the most part, just from that kind of stuff, Ryan, I'm really not sure how you could have a complaint. Yeah, you know, we've seen him kind of adjust this year. And he absolutely wanted to play two seven footers.
Starting point is 00:13:26 You know, even publicly said, I'm going to play three seven footers. Wouldn't that be something like tomorrow night, the Vanderbilt game again? But he was supposed to say he didn't want to do it. I mean, and so I like that. I like that he. Credit to him. He was asked it and he took it down. Now, the second thing he said, which was I almost buzzed in to say, come on, man.
Starting point is 00:13:45 was he said he thought all he thought Kentucky fans should stop critiquing his coaching and just enjoy it. I think he said something like, I don't go to my friend that's a businessman and critique how he runs his business. That's a fairly unrealistic view of what Kentucky fans can do. But, you know, to me what it says is he's kind of feeling himself. He's starting to be like, here we go. Yabididoo. And so now that's a good attitude, I hope, having going into March, where ultimately it's all going to come down to March.
Starting point is 00:14:20 And it's right in front of us. He has, I think it's now too straight, I guess times he's spoken on the radio and at his press conference. He's done like a, well, I don't have to explain anything to you all, but I'm going to just because so-and-so called me and said I should. He loves to say this so-and-so called me. You roll your eyes at this point because this is such a fun group. He's big on so-and-so-called me. it's the equivalent people accuse me of going a guy wrote on the text machine they actually do right but i understand where people would go you never say their name so how would you he can't both say
Starting point is 00:14:50 i ignore everything and then no it so someone always has to so i do i loved when he said that about the four scores and that he's moving forward that way so mark story wrote in the harold leader that he thinks this is the most pressure on UK in March. He says of the Cal tenure. Do you agree with that? 100%. I agree with that. Yes, after the failures of the March madness of years passed,
Starting point is 00:15:22 they cannot have a first weekend exit, and they have got to do well in the second weekend, and they've got to do well in the SEC tournament. Fans are like, we remember how it was last year when they got to beating the second round. But it's one of those things, though, that, like, it's a tipping point. Like, he could win all the fans back or the vast majority, right? If they went to the final four, like, I think it's all peaceful.
Starting point is 00:15:47 Oh, yeah. If they lose in the first weekend. I'm getting under the table. It's not peaceful. So it's like that's, it is nerve-wracking, but it's also very cut and dry. Like, we know. I mean, we know, right? Like, we know exactly Drew what.
Starting point is 00:16:02 what's at stake and now it's just a matter of going and doing it yeah and it's unfair to the players who are just here most of them for their first year i hope they don't really feel it but the pressure that's around him he's kind of built it where we've had these regular seasons where you you're one and whatever in the champions classic and you say well we're built for march or you know it's all about getting them ready for the tournament well when you put everyone's expectations into that whatever it is if you tell everybody wait for this moment you better deliver in that moment because everyone has been waiting for that. There you go.
Starting point is 00:16:33 859-280-2287. Rick has his hand on the wheel, and he is going to do something that's real, which is tell people 30 seconds, then that's enough. 859-2-8027. We are here at KS. Bar. It's kind of a rainy day, but maybe it'll clear up,
Starting point is 00:16:49 and we can come in even if it rains, but you can come in and join us. We will take a break and be right back. This KSR. Love the music choices of Rick. They are always exciting and full of energy. It is Kentucky Sports, radio 859-2802287.
Starting point is 00:17:11 The text machine 772-7-7-4-7-45-4. One person writes, Matt, you now are old and officially have become get-off-my-lawn guy. That's different than parking your car. Getting off my lawn, like, don't walk through it. I'm never going to be that guy. I'm not going to be the guy that says the kids in the neighborhood can't play in my lawn. I'll be all right with that as long as they shut up. But, but, but like, you can't part.
Starting point is 00:17:39 It's different than parking your car in somebody's grass. I mean, you're about to fertilize for the year, get that grass looking green. I've been aerating. You've aerated, nice. I mean, I don't know if this is the time of year to aerate, but I was, I was ready for it. It's fine. You let one guy park there, then another guy's going to park there. Next thing you got 10 cars in your grass out there.
Starting point is 00:17:58 One person writes, you. That's where you go. The person writes, it's ironic. You're complaining about leaving a car in somebody's grass. considering you have a car in your grass. Well, it's my house. Yeah. It's my car.
Starting point is 00:18:12 I mean, that's different. It's mine in my grass. Yes, I can leave it broken down there for 15 years. That's different. Don't you agree? That's different? If it's your property, I think you can do what you want with your property. You're going to leave your car out there for the raccoons and the squirrels?
Starting point is 00:18:31 They have their own place. I feel I'm a conservationist. I want to see you out there with a poster board, waving people in and parking them. $10. $10. You can't park in Lexington for $10 on game day. Oh, you think I should go? Oh, where I am in.
Starting point is 00:18:45 Yeah, no, it's what I'm saying. Oh, where I am right now, that's $25. That's a $25. Well, that's a good point. I could probably get about $200. Yeah. What are you doing talking to me and Ryan before games? You should be down there parking people.
Starting point is 00:18:57 That's exactly right. Over the course of the year, that would have been $4,000. That would have definitely added up. The SEC tournament, before we go to the phones, I said this yesterday, absent about five games going a certain way, we are a four-seed likely if we beat Tennessee, we're a five-seat if we lose. Now, there's still a way we can get up to even a two. If, like, I think, like, what, Florida has to beat Alabama today, and then South Carolina
Starting point is 00:19:27 has to lose. I mean, there's a bunch of stuff that has to happen. But the most likely scenario, there's an 80% chance we're. are a four or five. The only way we'd be a six is if we lost to Vandy tonight, which hopefully, or tomorrow night, which hopefully doesn't happen. But that means 3.30, and then you're playing Tennessee to see if you have to play an opening game or not. Well, you know, Kentucky's played well down in Knoxville lately. And, you know, Drew and I have been saying for months, don't want that playing on Thursday night. But we're not playing it. It'd be Thursday afternoon. Thursday afternoon.
Starting point is 00:19:57 It's not a Thursday period. So, yeah, it's possible. I'm glad to think it's. But your matchup on Friday, Drew, would be basically the same either way. I mean, you'd be playing right now it would be South Carolina. It could end up being Auburn, but you would be playing whoever that is either way on Friday. It's just a question of who's going to play a game first before you do it. Yeah, and you could get in a scenario where Arkansas is that first opponent. I think of all the other ones, you kind of have a bit of a breeze, but as we saw in Rupp Arena, when Arkansas is shooting well, you wouldn't want them. You're right. Yeah. And really, it's not so much the matchups. I want to win both of these tournaments and with a team that hasn't been that consistent.
Starting point is 00:20:36 I just having an extra game going on these runs. I'd rather win three and six instead of four and six just because I'll worry about these guys stacking so many in a row to do what they need to do. But if you've got to play on Thursday, you've got to play on Thursday. Yeah, we'll have to wait and see. All right, Rick, time to get started and test your trigger finger. Who's up first? I'm ready.
Starting point is 00:20:54 Okay, Dave is up first. Dave, go ahead, Dave. What's up, boys? I saw a Tala Tucker tweet that made me think, I kind of like the name. He called him the Unpredictable. I'm like, I feel like that's a perfect name for this team. And kind of going off what you guys are talking about,
Starting point is 00:21:10 what weird thing do you do during games, superstitions. I take my clothes off, and my clothes have been coming off every game this year. All of them? It's wild. All of them? If we're going to win, it's going. Okay, I'm going to extend this, Rick. We let one extension for each person.
Starting point is 00:21:26 Yeah. Okay, so I'm going to extend this one, Rick. I'm going to use mine early. Okay. Have you ever gotten so nervous you got just like naked? If it's going to make the boys win, you got to do what you got to do, Matt. So the answer is yes. Yes.
Starting point is 00:21:40 You have done that. Please. Yeah. And I'm watching at home. I'm not at the bar pulling a Ryan Lemon taking my clothes off. Okay. So do you go like when they're playing bad, layers come off? Is that how it works?
Starting point is 00:21:54 Well, usually I'm like, I guess this time you're, I'm wearing a sweatshirt, you know, sweatpants. So I take off the sweatshirt, then the shirt comes off, and the sweatpants, and if you need to be, everything. And is there anyone in your house, or you're just, like, standing there by yourself with everything in the wind? Just me and the wife. She's mine. So you think. She's interesting to the other team. She loves how we keep going down and start every day.
Starting point is 00:22:19 Yeah, there you go. Well, all right. Well, that's very interesting. So you're going to be my Kentucky branded naked fan of the day. You go to Kentucky Branden. com for your UK and KSR gear. appreciate the call. What do you think about that policy?
Starting point is 00:22:32 Don't do that during the NCAA tournament if you were watching at the bar. Especially you, Lenny, Bluebeer. I just have a feeling. Don't take that on as a thing. Didn't see that coming as our first caller today. Talk about nakedness. Good for him, though. Yeah, if it works, whatever works, man.
Starting point is 00:22:49 Strange customs we all have. That's what works for him. Go for it. I'm all about committing to your superstition in the bit. Just me personally, like right now, He needs bringing the ball at the court on this TV. I would feel weird not having clothes on watching that. That would not feel right to me.
Starting point is 00:23:06 You think watching a college basketball game naked would be weird to you. It just something would feel off. Like, this isn't normal. I'm not saying whatever works for him, please continue. For me, I need a couple layers to watch my college basketball. I think that's true. You need some barrier between you. I'm very shy.
Starting point is 00:23:23 And I go to all the games. I mean, be very different. I would get an email very quickly. Yeah, you and Jack. Don't want to be up there like that. Who's next? Got Andy up next. Andy, go ahead.
Starting point is 00:23:33 30 seconds. Tomorrow, last game of the season at home, Cal did announce in advance that he would not be doing the radio show tomorrow night after the game no matter what because he needed to go home and get in bed so he could stay fresh. Is that fair or foul? I'll hang up. Is that what he really said so he could stay fresh?
Starting point is 00:23:55 He said, I'm not going to do radio tomorrow because we'll stay fresh. We have a road trip on Saturday. Well, look, I can't kill crushing because Ryan's doing the radio show tomorrow night because I have one left I don't have to do. So I'm going to take it for the bandy. But, you know, just say you don't want to do it. Like, stay fresh for the road trip. Everybody else is there.
Starting point is 00:24:17 Your assistant coaches, your players, they're all there. Yeah, I mean, the players will still be there. Do they have to be fresh? I think they need to be. I think Cal has gotten in his mind that he plays at this point. because how fresh, but look, there's a lot of I can hide you, but I'm going to go out. My issue about the radio is not so much. Now, is after bandy, right?
Starting point is 00:24:36 Because I assume we're going to win that game. It's when you take a loss that the fan base is very frustrated about. If he, you know, if he wants to take the bandy game off, that's not the biggest thing in the world. But when you lose, like if we lose in the SEC or NCAA, you've got to do that, you know, that's, that's, I guess, where my view is. We'll take a break.
Starting point is 00:24:55 859-2-80-22-87. Be right back to KSR. T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay. Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. It's Kentucky Sports Radio here at KS-Barr. Kind of a dreary day, but hopefully it'll perk up.
Starting point is 00:25:22 859-2-80-22-87. It is 32nd, 32nd Tuesday. So hopefully Rick's got his hand on the trigger. Kentucky in the latest bracketology, the highest four seed, knocking on the door of a three seed, and has this now going to Pittsburgh. Instead of going all the way out west, Pittsburgh would be a lot better for Kentucky.
Starting point is 00:25:49 I think they'd actually get a pretty good crowd, Ryan, if they were in Pittsburgh, don't you? We were just there. We kind of have been to Pittsburgh, what, two of the last three years or two years in a row like Pittsburgh. So I would be a great trip, I think, What is it? It's not that far.
Starting point is 00:26:03 I think it's only like six hours. Yeah, I mean, people, Pittsburgh's like Detroit and some of those cities that are a lot closer than you realize. I'm rooting for Pittsburgh. Obviously, it's closer. I think that's most important to get crowds there. I mean, we're going if it's even on the moon. But I think for this team, they love to feed off the fans.
Starting point is 00:26:22 And I want it to be as easy for as many UK fans to get somewhere. And this had them as Pittsburgh than Detroit, which I think would be Kentucky fans couldn't ask for considering how the season went. If it went like that, you couldn't ask for a better setup. Detroit's another easy drive that's a lot closer than you think about until you do it. So I would love that. Yeah. So hopefully that's how it ends up.
Starting point is 00:26:41 You know, there's a lot of things that can change right ahead of us. We're the 13 and 12 would be Kansas. You know, they have been bad recently. Honestly, they've like, I think they have more Big 12 losses this year than they've had in the Bill Self era. I think they have like seven or eight. Yeah, I heard of them say that first time lost back-to-back big 12 games in the Bill Self era. Is that right?
Starting point is 00:27:03 Yeah. That's a pretty amazing statistic. It is unbelievable. They've ever lost back-to-back games. Big 12 is better than it used to be. But still, last night I had to host ESPN. A lot of Russell Wilson. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:27:15 He's back in the news. I knew when I saw that he was being cut. I thought, wow, that's great. More Russell Wilson. And they want me to have, like, they ask you, do you have strong opinions about Russell Wilson? And my answer is just no. I mean.
Starting point is 00:27:31 So what did you go? go with. I just took the, it's, what's interesting to me about Russell Wilson is that it seems like the people that play with him don't like it. That to me is kind of interesting, like the guys that played with him in Seattle, he won a Super Bowl, but they don't seem to like him. That seems odd, right? Most of the great players, their teammates either like them or like with Michael Jordan,
Starting point is 00:27:52 they maybe don't like him, but they're like scared to say they don't like him. They just will, I mean, Richard Sherman's just like, he's the worst. and you go, wow, it's kind of odd that people would talk like that about him. He seems very corny. And if he were like that all the time, I know the Internet loves to make fun of him, but if he were like that behind the scenes, do you know anyone that's really corny, like over-the-top corny? Because that would be, but it's hard to get mad at those people.
Starting point is 00:28:20 Yeah, it's hard to dislike them. It would just get a little exhausting. It would be. I could totally see how he would be exhausting. Like I think LeBron does a lot of corny things. I don't dislike LeBron, but sometimes I'm just like, who, LeBron. Here's an example of something Mark Schlerer. He was on with us last night.
Starting point is 00:28:36 Here's what he said, and so I'll ask you all if this would make you mad. By the way, I've never understood. We're supposed to call Mark Schler a stink. That's his big name. And I'd, let me just say, I don't know the mayor. Okay, so it's really weird for me to go, okay, stink. But like, everyone calls him stink. And he answers to stink.
Starting point is 00:28:56 And the reason is, apparently, that he doesn't wash the clothes that he mows his grass in. That's how he got the nickname. Well, he also didn't wash his uniform. Ah. So he would wear the same pants all year and not wash him, and by the end of the year, it would stink. So that's why you call it. But I still think it's weird to call a stranger stink. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:29:16 Anyway, stink was on with us, and he said what made his teammates mad in Denver was during training camp, his family and kids were allowed to use the bathroom in the facility and everyone else's family and kids had to use the porta. And that really made the team mad. And apparently it was because he had negotiated in his contract that his family could use the thing. So if you heard that, would that make you mad that his family gets to use the indoor facilities
Starting point is 00:29:52 and yours have to use the truck? We've talked a lot about the locker room and such a big camaraderie in that locker room. And when you do something like that, you know, it does, I think, rub everybody else the wrong way, man. You're all in it together. You're all brothers. You think, like, even if they'll allow him, he should make Sierra, Sierra go use the porta potty. Or drive down the street to McDonald's or something. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:30:18 Yeah. I see Sierra drive down the street to McDonald's. What about you? Would that make you mad if his... kids and why for using the indoor restrooms and yours are at the porta potty? Part of me is like, well, if he negotiated into his contract and they agreed to it, I mean, he makes more money than me. It's just one more thing.
Starting point is 00:30:34 But I do know Wesley Woodard did a podcast about the Titans. And the family stuff in those locker rooms is a lot bigger than I ever realized because I guess Ray Bull had some stuff of players and their families. And Woodgird went on this big rant about how important it is for players to have their kids around. So after hearing that, maybe I could understand why players. took offense of that and got mad at him, but I don't think it would bother me that much, especially when his wife's a pretty big celebrity. I understand it a little bit.
Starting point is 00:31:00 Yeah, it would only bother me that none of the kids should be allowed. Yeah. But like if his due and other people's don't, you can see why that might upset you. Rick, what do you got, Rick? Who's next? Got Ryan up next. Ryan, 30 seconds. Go ahead. Yeah, can you hear me? Yes.
Starting point is 00:31:18 So I've been listening to your buddy, Nick Coffey, just to enjoy the misery of Woolville. And he said yesterday, that they're thinking that they're going to get Scott Drew for a coach. And I'm just curious, why would he leave? I feel like he's in a good situation. He never gets any criticism, anything like that. Why in the world would he want to go? I think that's a good question.
Starting point is 00:31:40 I mean, you know, so there's two arguments about Louisville as an attractive job. On the one hand, if they hadn't had the last two years, I appreciate the call, they are the six or seventh best program of all time. They have the resources, they have the fan base. So on the one hand, you would see why that would be a very attractive job. On the other hand, and also, by the way, you can build it quickly. It's not like it'll take him five years. He can just get transfers and they could be competitive next year.
Starting point is 00:32:10 Look at Rick Petino at St. John's, right? On the other hand, I don't know. Baylor, to me at this point, is it that much of a worse job than Louisville today? Not today. If I were anyone with any kind of legacy and he's somebody that I would not risk anything going to that mess and just getting sucked into it where it's already taken down a couple coaches already. Is there an argument though like after Billy Gillespie that whatever he does will be better than what was there? And so like the pressure Ryan actually might not be that high. I mean Chris Mack actually he wasn't great but he wasn't awful but he was just following Rick and it was like an impossible situation. it won't be like that right now. Yeah, Baylor today is better program than Louisville, but you're right. Overall in history, Louisville's a better program.
Starting point is 00:33:04 And I can see coaches want to get to one of those storied programs, but man, I don't know if this is the right time. Maybe you bring in, I don't know, somebody to try to get it back to 500 and then you come in and take it to that next level. That's a big jump from where they are now to an elite level. Yeah, I don't know. But it would be interesting if he takes that job because I've always thought he was the next guy here. And I think if he takes that job now, that's gone.
Starting point is 00:33:32 Yeah. Like now of a sudden what I've always thought was the likely next dude here will no longer be the next dude here. But that is definitely who Louisville fans are saying. They've also, there's also a group saying Musselman. And what if they get none of them and they end up with just, I mean, Rick Bosich still acts like Kenny Payne's coming back. How do I bet on that solution that all these names are saying? and they get none of them. That would be the best.
Starting point is 00:33:56 Remember when they were getting DJ Wagner and all the other things they were going to do? They talked themselves into it. Yeah. Yeah. Who's next? Gary and Orlando is next. Gary, go ahead, Gary, 30 seconds.
Starting point is 00:34:07 Thank you. Still number one in Orlando. Real quick, get well, Shannon and Alex Porthus, prayers to him. And our UK group lost one of our big attendees and participants this weekend, Barbara Brumfield. She would have been 96. in April, and she made as many games as she could. And the good thing about it is she'll never miss another game,
Starting point is 00:34:32 and she'll have great seats. And thanks for let me say that. Thank you. Rick got it in there at the end. I understand. He found the buzzer. Yes, God bless that woman. And my prayers with her family.
Starting point is 00:34:48 And yes, she'll be able to watch all the games coming forward. Billy just texted me and said, Cal said he was going to do the postgame radio on his phone in his car so he could go home and go to bed. What about all those fans? But maybe you could argue he's saying it so people don't wait. Don't wait around. If he is going to skip it, at least he's warning people for that reason. I do like the fact he is warning everybody, but I don't like the fact that he's kidding.
Starting point is 00:35:18 This may be some fans only trip to Rup Arena in five years and they wanted to say and get Coach Cal to sign their ball. How much time is he going to save by doing it in the car? Well, here we go. Last year, we were sitting in the Omni in Nashville when I brought up the Walton's comment. And I was like, I just feel like the energy's not there right now going into this tournament. Let's get back to Drake's house. We don't need to go to bed right away. He likes to go to bed.
Starting point is 00:35:43 But there's a fair, though, there's an age where bed is a great thing. I agree. Like, I had a night's sleep last night that might have been like my best night's sleep in a month. month or two. And I woke up this morning and I was like, you know, when you wake up and you're still a little tired, but still kind of in that real deep sleep mode. And it feels so good. Maybe when you get older, that's the best feeling you have and you just want it, you know. And that might be what he wants. My thing is just a lot of me. We're getting excited. Like, go home and sleep. Just tell us you're up all night. Yeah. Don't say you're getting fired up.
Starting point is 00:36:21 I want to go to bed. I understand. Hey, when you hear a waterfall, in nature, there's no cause for concern. But if it's in your living room, Eke, 100, serve pro. They have Eke on the copy? You just added it. Make it like it never even happened.
Starting point is 00:36:35 If water threatens your home business, whatever, go to serve pro. If you have a fire like Brian did, they'll come and clean it up. They're great people. 1-800 serve pro, S-E-R-V-P-R-O.com. They did it for Ryan. They could do it for you.
Starting point is 00:36:49 It is serve pro. We'll take a break. Very back. It's Kentucky Sports Radio. Welcome back at Tungi Sports Radio. The music's exciting, Drew. I'm not going to tell you it. Tell you otherwise.
Starting point is 00:37:09 I'm excited for the podcast listeners. Yeah, well, they get to hear it. I turned it on yesterday. It does add something. I mean, it doesn't add a lot, but it adds a little bit. You get to hear it right. You know, we all get to expand our musical taste a little bit during this time. I like that there's music out there.
Starting point is 00:37:26 I mean, the music we're playing now has no copyright. So like no one is claiming it. They don't want it? I don't like that one. I'm just going to put it on the Internet and say, you know what? Anybody can have it not interested in it. That's basically what the music is that we're able to use right now on podcast. And so Rick agreed to play that stuff today until Shannon gets back.
Starting point is 00:37:49 You are our expert for when it comes to high school basketball. The regionals start tonight. Tonight. What does everybody need to watch for? What are the big games? Well, I'm on the mic tonight for. Frederick Douglass and Madison Central. What do you mean you're on the mic?
Starting point is 00:38:02 You know, the PA guy. Coming out of the bullpen. So they don't use you for the regular season, only for the postseason. Well, you know, you've got to get everybody fired up. Alan Feldhouse is bringing in his Madison Central Indians to the farm. Why do they let you do that? I mean, you're biased. Well, it's a home game.
Starting point is 00:38:20 It's a home game. First round games in the 11th region are at the higher seed, and then the final four move to Dunbar. Okay. But you don't do the regular season. I did when Josiah played, but he's not playing now. So they know it's a special day, so they bring you in? I guess so, so we've got to get them fired up.
Starting point is 00:38:36 So right now the number one and two teams in the state are in the same region. Yeah. It's great crossing, which is Scott County, right? And then Lexington Catholic. But there are all across, I don't think anybody really good has been eliminated yet, have they? No, no, everybody's still alive. This 11th region tournament could be a war because Frederick Douglass won the region last year. they got everybody back.
Starting point is 00:39:00 So they got those top three teams are going at it in the 11th region. Yeah. I'm a little worried that my Madisonville Maroons might ruin the fun for everybody with Travis Perry coming around. Everybody's so excited, but he's going to have to run into them later this week. They get past the line. I just don't want my line county to just ruin all this excitement of the state.
Starting point is 00:39:18 Lion County is not going to beat Matt or it's not going to lose to Madisonville. Lyon County's coming to Rupp Arena. I mean, again, I would say that, that this bar has a chance to have like, like four awesome days with the NCAA tournament and the Sweet 16 going on at the same time, the first and second round. Because I think this Sweet 16, we got to see who makes it from the regionals. But it has a chance to be the most balanced, open suite 16 that I can remember.
Starting point is 00:39:44 You have a chance to have like eight of the top 15 teams in the state here, maybe 10 of the top 15. It never happens like that. Usually the best teams are all clustered in one region, not this year. You know, we have an invite again to go down and join the broadcast team at the 13th region. I'm going to go down Thursday night. When do I hear these invites? I'm inviting you now. Yeah, I can't do Thursday.
Starting point is 00:40:08 Is it this week? Yes. Yeah, I can't do Thursday. I want to go to a couple games. I'll go. When does Catholic play Great Cross? I don't think they would meet until Friday. Is it Friday or Saturday?
Starting point is 00:40:21 I don't know. I have to look at the brackets. Well, look at that. I'd like to go to that game because I want to see. I want to see, I mean, they're the best two teams in the state, at least according to the rank. Well, they've got to get by Frederick Douglass first. I'm not worried. Stop with the Frederick Douglass. They would play March 12th.
Starting point is 00:40:34 That would be what day would that be. That would be next Tuesday. Next Tuesday. Oh, I would go to that game. That would be a good time to go. I have, let me just tell you, in the second hour, I'm going to teach you a scientific fact I learned yesterday. Really? I'm very excited about this.
Starting point is 00:40:52 When I read this in a magazine, I thought, I'm excited to have this conversation. with Drew and Ryan. I wish Shannon was here, too, because I think he would enjoy it. But I learned a scientific fact that I want to see if it blows your mind. And I will tell you, it's about crying. That's your hint. It's about crying. You probably never thought about crying in any scientific terms.
Starting point is 00:41:14 We're going to do that for you. But first, who's up next, Rick? Steve is up next. Steve, go ahead, Steve. Hey, Matt. What's going on a long time? Who are? 30 seconds.
Starting point is 00:41:24 Do you think Petino is lobbying to get the Arkansas job after his comments after the Kentucky game? I don't think he's getting another. I think he's going to finish at St. John's. I think I don't think if you're Arkansas, why would you want to do that? Arkansas is an attractive job. If Musselman leaves, I think it'll still, they'll go find somebody else. Yeah, he made the comment that there was no way Arkansas should be 12th in the agency. Oh, I didn't hear him say that.
Starting point is 00:41:52 Well, I appreciate the call. I mean, Arkansas shouldn't be 12th in the SEC, but they're not going to fire musclemen, I don't think. I think he might leave. I think he'd like to take the Louisville job. But I think Rick, St. John's is the perfect place. St. John's is basically, I mean, I went to that opening game. It's like Italians. Yeah, that's his scene.
Starting point is 00:42:11 I mean, honestly, you couldn't pick a more Italian place than St. John's as a college. Well, their game against Creighton, just a week or two ago, they were showing the crowd and it had like the dude from the Sopranos. Mario and Luigi. the Italian agent for the Giants quarterback that's so popular. Everybody was there. Also, if you're Arkansas, how old is Rick? You don't want a guy that's just going to be around here or two. Then you've got to hit the reset.
Starting point is 00:42:33 I mean, there's almost no, like, there's no Italian that is not going to be part of, part of his thing. He's in the perfect place. And you mentioned St. John's on the bubble. Do you still feel like they could get paired against Kentucky? Could they be that? I mean, if they're, if they end up being. a 12 or a 13 and get in.
Starting point is 00:42:55 Can you imagine? I mean, just imagine if we were to play St. John's in the first round of the NCAA tournament. First of all, I think we'd win the game. But you, the only thing that would be more pressure than a second round game against Duke is a first round game against Rick Patina. Oh, my goodness.
Starting point is 00:43:11 Can you, Drew, first of all, it's not outlandish. No. But could you imagine that? No, and it would be a house money game for Rick. So he would be obnoxious leading into it because he knew he could be. He wouldn't have that much to lose. You know, he's punching up in that situation, really.
Starting point is 00:43:26 So I would hate it. Even though I'm confident Kentucky would win it, it's just an unnecessary stress. Think about Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Kentucky and St. John's Cow versus Wigg. Think how uptight cow was when they played St. Peters in the first round. Dude, I'll be uptight. My goodness. I'm going to make Daniel drive to Pittsburgh and let me stand in the back of his drive.
Starting point is 00:43:52 I mean, I will be, like, that would be, oh, my. I can see it happening, though. I can't imagine a draw that would be worse for the nerves than those two teams in the first round. Can you? St. John's first round, Duke's second round. I don't even want to think about that. If we do that, then we know the NCAA did that on purpose. There's no way you could have that.
Starting point is 00:44:16 But just St. John's on its own is crazy. Don't you think? Oh, yeah. We'll take App State. want to stress-free first weekend. That would be nuts. 859-2-8027. We will take a break.
Starting point is 00:44:27 Be right back here at KS. Bars, Kentucky Sports Radio. Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.
