This is Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Now here's Matt Jones.
Welcome, everyone.
It is Kentucky Sports Radio Wednesday, March the 6th.
I'm Matt Jones here on a rainy day in Lexington, Kentucky, where it is senior night.
Kentucky and Vandy will play tonight at Rupp Arena to all.
honor our senior class and we are here. It is Wings Day, dollar wings all day. And considering we'll
have a nice pregame crowd and everything, it'll be a good time to come and get lunch, get dollar wings,
throw them in your face. Like eat them. Don't put the bone in too. But you can get bone out and then
you don't even have to worry about such as such problems. We got a full house. Shannon's back.
How are we feeling? Feeling good. Lots of chicken noodle soup. Lots of crackers,
Pedia Light, breakfast of champions. I'm ready to go. You sound good.
good like I thought you were going to come in here sounding bad what did you have did you have palpedia
the pump I think it was like the flu maybe laryngitis maybe both I don't know
yeah so you didn't get it tested could be anything well wasn't COVID I did get COVID checked
yeah I was negative for that and I feel good man feel good ready good I'm glad it's nice to have
her but we got to get we got to get rounded up in the form for the SEC tournament so while we were
gone Shannon while you were gone we kind of made a decision I'm gonna I want to make sure you're good
with it before it gets put into gear.
Okay.
So we're all going to go to the SEC tournament.
Yeah.
But we've decided because now the team might be good and has a chance to play multiple
weekends.
It's not certain by any means, but there's a chance that you and Ryan will stay around
here the first weekend, maybe hang out at the bar some.
Drew and I'll go to the first weekend and then we'll all go to the regional.
Are you good with that?
I love that idea.
Yeah.
So then you and Shannon, Ryan and Shannon, can be like barflies here with all the folks for the first and second round.
Drew and I'll go wherever it is.
And then the regional wall go together as a family.
I love it.
And I'll be here all day watching games.
You know, we don't get to do that a whole lot.
We're always on the road.
Well, I mean, just because the possibility of a final four could mean four straight weekends gone.
And I know that's hard for you, Ryan, with the family.
And Shannon, I just feel like, you know, if I feel like if I can get two weekends out of you,
I'll consider that a win.
That's a lot.
That is a lot.
But I'll tell you, you know, the first two rounds, or I guess the Thursday through Saturday
or through Sunday, I would rather be at a bar watching the games.
I understand.
I don't disagree with you.
I mean, I prefer to be at a place kind of as well.
But, you know, Drew and I have a job to do.
I mean, what's going to happen if we're not there to report?
The last time Kentucky.
at the NCAA tournament game I didn't go they lost St. Peter so I can't let that happen again
I was at that one and I have this mental image burned in my brain where at seven in the morning
they let me check in I rolled my suitcase next to the bed walked across streets the arena for a full
day of basketball and the middle night came back and that suitcase was unzipped I just left it
like it was and just got in the car I laid down slept a couple hours on top of the blanket of my
clothes and never even opened the damn thing in a tournament so I'm ready to take my suitcase wherever
it takes to follow this team. Yeah, it's going to be party time, don't you think?
You know, we got a chance for, who knows, multiple weekends.
Maybe a little, you know, first and second round. Now, if Kentucky keeps doing well, we keep
rising, maybe it's Pittsburgh or Brooklyn. Then you go to the regional. We're starting to see
Detroit as a possibility. God, you're listing like my favorite cities. Detroit. You love Detroit.
And then the final four is in Phoenix. Phoenix. Here we come. Are you kidding me?
It's tank top weather. Yeah, dude. It'll be shorts out. Tens off.
I like this scenario you laid out.
Maybe you and Drew go to Spokane, then they end up in L.A.
May I might as well just stay out here and go to L.A.
Are we having the test right now, by the way, the tornado test?
Well, we can't hear it, but yes, 10.07 is when it was supposed to go.
How long does it go?
Usually like a minute, so we're probably already.
Is what we're saying now, will it be on podcast?
Yes, because I'm recording it.
Okay, all right.
So really, we've lost people for a little bit, but they'll come back.
But yes, there's a scenario, right, where at least Drew and I,
might have to go to Spokane, then L.A., then Phoenix, and never come back.
Just stay out there.
Just be West Coast Bums.
Next thing you know, we'll get a villa on the beach, and we'll say, you know what?
This is just, Abby, you can come, but everybody else, we're just living there.
I did forget to mention this to Abby for today's show.
So she's listening live right now.
Can't wait to see you tonight.
Yeah, Abby.
Actually, I got a game tonight.
Can't wait to see you tomorrow.
There's a good chance, Abby.
Three weeks of Drew being gone.
Wouldn't that be exciting?
I guess you guys find the laundromat, maybe wash some clothes in L.A.
while you get there?
So can I tell you, buy clothes on the road?
I'll be wearing Phoenix clothes.
That's exactly right.
Because you got to get, you got blended with a lot.
Oh, okay, I understand.
No one look like a tourist.
So can I tell you the dream I had last night?
Oh, boy.
Because Shannon had a funky dream, too.
What?
Shannon had a funky dream.
Make sure you enunciate on these words, okay?
My man's grumpy this one.
Yeah, I mean, let's just bring it.
I mean, I know we're in a tornado drill, but let's not, you know.
So, yeah, so I was, you know, I was, I was in Bristol, Connecticut.
I was sitting there, here was who was on either side of me.
Would you like to know?
I don't know why they were together.
It was me, Myron, Jay Billis, and Teddy Bruske.
Not sure why Teddy Bruske was there.
I mean, he works there, but it was the college basketball selection show.
Jay Billis is not going to be there.
And neither is Myron.
It's just going to be me.
But they hand us the brackets.
And Billis is doing like...
On the billistrator?
Well, he's just sitting there going, ooh, do you see this versus this?
And admiring is like typing.
Yeah.
Because he has to type things.
And I get it.
And, you know, I've got it 20 minutes before everybody else.
And I just immediately start calling people and telling him to reply.
And I'm thinking it's going to be people that are fine.
I think I call Drew and I call hubby and I call the turkey hunt.
And I'm like, guess what?
By the way, they had us playing St. John's.
That's why I was so excited.
Guess what?
We're playing St. John's.
And I call, and all of a sudden, a guy whose face I've never seen, who was wearing a t-shirt
that said head of ESPN, which I don't think is what he wears.
Probably not.
Probably around the building.
He comes in and goes, you're the leak and starts yelling at me.
And it woke me up in my sleeve.
Oh, so he really got you upset.
And I should have known, Shannon, when he had head of ESPN on his t-shirt to be careful.
that you got caught
I should have known
be careful about that guy
true
he says head of
team BSVN on his t-shirt
I gotta watch out
what I do
I'm picturing like a black
just basic security
t-shirt
basic font
white letters
and the ESPN
so
so I got to be careful
those 20 minutes
arguably the best
20 minutes of my life
yeah I think if you analyze
your dream
you're like you're so
you're so anxious
because you're going to
know before everybody
and you're going to want to
tell your friends.
I think it's going to be like trivia here at the bar.
I'm going to have to turn my phone off and hand it to somebody and go,
don't let me,
you know,
don't let me tell anybody.
Yeah.
But that's going to,
because the ESPN has to get it early to build the graphics.
Correct.
They have to build the graphics with the team, Shannon,
and they can't do that immediately.
Right.
So they give it to them,
you know,
20 or 30 minutes earlier.
But you,
you know,
when I worked in D.C.,
on the D.C.
Circuit, it was during the Guantanamo Bay.
hearings. Have I ever told you this?
No, I don't know if you have. So I was a clerk,
and we would hear the appeals from the
people that were detained at Guantanamo
Bay. And I had to get, like,
quite a security clearance.
All my friends got interviewed, like they would
meet them at restaurants
and interview them. Yeah. And there was
a room that was the
Guantanamo Bay Room.
And that was where all the cases were.
And when you got assigned to a Guantanamo Bay case,
I only had two during my time. Some of my
co-clerks had like eight or nine, I only had two.
You'd have to go into that room.
They would scan your security badge to go in.
You could only have the files in that room.
You could not take them out.
So you had to work in that room.
And it was like very secret.
And while you were like working on the files, they'd eye you.
Stand over your shoulder.
I'm not kidding you.
They would eye you and be like, what are you doing?
You're not going to lose us the war on terror here.
I feel like that's how it's going to be about the brats.
at ESPN next Sunday, Dr.
Exactly.
There's not many scenarios where you're in possession of something the nation wants to see or get a hold of,
and you're going to be sitting there with it for those 20 minutes.
You also will appreciate, since we have this same issue at Eyehart, I can't log into my ESPN email.
So they used to Shannon let you make flights over the phone.
They had, like, travel agents, and you go, I'm mad, I need to fly from here to here, and they would do it for you.
Now there's a thing on the internet, I guess they call them a portal where you're going, you know, I mean, I do that online for my own flights, but you have to do it and then it gets paid for ESPN pays for it.
I'm supposed to do that, but I don't know how to log in.
You are so fascinating.
And I've asked them, but again, I'm not big enough on the chain at ESPN to say I don't know how to log in.
So I've been going through emails trying to find my login.
I can't.
So I wrote them and said, look, I don't know how to log in.
And they're like, you've worked here for five years.
Have you never logged in?
Usually you go through that through orientation.
Yes.
Yes.
And I said, no.
And they're like, you've never logged in?
And they go, well, have you ever filled in your time?
And I didn't know.
I said, I didn't know we were supposed to fill it.
How are you getting paid?
Well, you've heard that story.
My first two years here, I never got paid.
You just did it for free, like an internship.
Well, I figured they'd pay me at some point.
and I didn't want to rock the boat.
And then when they moved...
I don't even know how we're getting into those.
I was part-time for the first two years.
And then COVID happened, and they fired all the part-timers.
But they decided to keep me.
I was the only part-timer they kept,
which means they technically needed to move me to full-time.
So when it came time to do that paperwork,
the woman called me and said,
I see you haven't been paid in two years.
And I went, well, I thought y'all were going to get to it.
I thought she was going to say,
Well, if you'd logged into your email.
She said to me, she was like, I need you to fill out your time sheets for the last two years.
And I said, I don't know.
Feels like a big ask.
It was, and I was at the preteness when she asked.
She might want your money.
So somehow we got it done.
Wow.
Some companies do two-week pay periods.
You thought they did a two-year pay period.
I just thought they'd get along.
I was like, they'll get me at some point.
So anyway, the point of all that is to say, I don't know how to get my flight because I can't log into the email.
They're giving you.
Are you logging your hours?
Well, now I have a set schedule.
They know you're not emailing it out.
They know you're safe.
Yeah.
8.59-280-2287.
Kentucky and Vandy tonight.
Cats are, what are they?
It was 19.5 last time I looked at a.
19 and a half point favorite.
You like Kentucky to cover that today on draft game?
I remember this game last year.
Vanderbilt came in here on senior night, and I've,
I believe Vanderbilt won.
And I think there's been other games where Kentucky's been a heavy, heavy favorite on Vanderbilt.
Vanderbilt keeps it within single digits.
Riley LaChance that one time had the free throws and he missed all of them.
Yeah.
But that Vandy team was better than this bandy team.
And we are better than last year's Kentucky team.
So you're not worried about that happening, are you, Drew?
No, I will not be betting it.
I just don't like big spreads with this Kentucky team.
We see they'll have a great game.
and then give up a big run.
It's meaningless, but when it's,
we're talking about a point spread of 18 points,
I think I'll stay away because I just,
I don't know if they get up big,
if they'll continue to play for 40 minutes if it's a blowout.
But I'm confident they're going to win pretty convincingly
and not going to have to worry too much of this one.
I like Kentucky to win, but yeah, I mean,
that's a lot of points against the team.
You know, it's Brad Calo Perry coming back.
I mean, you know, coach and son going head to head.
You're going to try to embarrass your son?
I don't know.
That he might put the seniors in earlier.
There's just so many factors on a point.
You think you'll start Brennan Canada?
And Kareem Watkins.
Don't forget Kareem.
Does he start the seniors in these games?
I can't remember.
I think he has in the past.
Yeah, but it's been like one person and he puts them in with, you know.
So you think we might start Reeves, Mitchell, Kareem Watkins and Brennan, Canada?
I think that's tradition.
We have to.
Well, we used to be in down eight two after the first three or four minutes anyway.
Starting doesn't matter.
What's the difference, yeah?
So who would be the fifth guy then?
Is he going to go throw?
That's the question.
What's the pop off the bench then?
So if you have Kareem Watkins and you have Reeves and you have Mitchell and you have Canada,
then you probably need another guard.
I'd say Wagner.
Wagner and Kareem are like half-brothers.
Yes, I'd say it would be Wagner, Reeves, Kareem, Canada, Mitchell.
Go small.
Race to 10, Vandy.
Just kidding.
Do you think you would let him go a couple minutes?
I mean, Canada can play a little bit.
Yeah, he could let him go.
The bad thing is that lineup could beat Vanderbilt.
Oh, you think it could?
I truly do.
Yeah.
They're bad.
I mean, they're Louisville bad.
By the way, Drew Deiner had a video of the Louisville crowd last night.
Did you see that?
I didn't see it.
You got to look at his Twitter.
Oh, really.
First of all, not one person in the upper arena.
Not one.
Like, when I say not one, completely empty.
Lower arena, 40 to 50% full, sweets.
No one.
Oh.
Like, no one.
In the suites out.
And he walked around and showed people the bartenders serving no one, just standing there at the bars.
That's people you don't think about.
People that need those tips.
Yeah.
No one in the seats.
There's no one there.
Not one person in anything.
And he did it saying the cost of U of L basketball.
I guess it was from this weekend.
It was last night.
It was the Virginia Tech.
It was their last home game.
And they did not go out with a bank.
I had that idea where I was going to just go to games and do a podcast
in the crowd just by myself.
Might do that next year if they don't fill those seats.
What if Kenny?
Do you think they'll bring Kenny back?
I hope so.
Yeah, we'll see.
If he gets Carter Knox, who knows?
I heard they're getting Billy Donovan on the internet last night.
Yeah, last night it came out that they're going to get Billy Donald.
Good for them.
He's shopping for horse farms in a little area,
and he can't kill kids in school.
859.
His kids are grown now.
859-287.
The text machine is 772.
We'll take a break.
Get you ready for senior night.
This is Kentucky Sports Radio.
Welcome back.
It is Kentucky Sports Radio.
Here at KS Bar and Grill.
859-280-2287.
A lot of people writing on a text machine asking how I've survived as an adult.
I can't say anything because our I-heart email, do you know how to get into your eye-heart email?
Every year we have to do the FCC training.
Every year they have to tell me what my email address is.
I've never logged into it except to do that FCC training, which I despise.
I despise it more than anything.
It's my least favorite day of the year, Shannon, when we have to do the FCC.
And it's the same thing every year.
It's the same thing every year. Yeah, no pay-old.
We get it. We get it. Don't say those words. I mean, I get it. And it takes like two hours and I hate it.
Do you print out your certificate?
No, I don't have it. You think I'm going to hang it on the wall? I pass the FCC certificate.
I hate it. And one of the things that always says is don't call people on the air.
And I always forget that we're not supposed to do that.
Shannon, call that guy on the air live now. Let's do it.
It sets that every single time.
we never do it.
Did you watch the Eastern Kentucky game last night?
I was at the Frederick Douglass game, so I missed it, but I was keeping up with it the score.
Very disappointing.
Very disappointing.
Yeah, it was brutal.
Number one seed in the tournament.
They were at home.
At home.
Again, playing against a team that hadn't won a game outside of their building all year,
Jacksonville, and Eastern was losing most of the game, lost, had a lot of chances at the end,
couldn't win, had a great crowd.
They had it set up to where they could go the whole way, and they weren't able to do it.
So it's a shame.
I mean, this was a great chance for Eastern to make the NCAA tournament.
And, you know, they've now changed the rules where the regular season champ isn't guaranteed to go to the NIT anymore.
So Eastern season might be over.
Rough night for Kentucky schools.
They were the number one seed.
That's not with Kentucky Wesley.
Kentucky Wesleyan.
Also a number one seed is not what we're talking about Eastern.
We do.
I feel a little bit like a jingston yesterday.
I first got them wrong.
We were talking about teams at that conference,
and I talked about a run.
They were going to go on how excited I was.
Shocked they lost that game to a team.
They'd beaten about almost 20 points earlier in the year.
And like I said, the run could be over.
Did you see the end of the northern Alabama, whoever they played game?
Lipscomb.
Crazy.
So what was it?
Lipscomb is up.
No.
Lipscomb was down three.
Lipscomb's down three.
Lipscomb comes down to.
court, shoots a three to tie it at the buzzer, makes it.
Northern Alabama inbounds it.
The dude is running 175 miles an hour.
He jumps, and he jumps like 20 feet forward.
So he is like jumping towards the basket, double pumps the shot, and it goes in,
and they beat Lipscomb, and they're going to the next race.
It was that, that shot, like he had, you talk about out of control.
Oh, yeah.
That dude was, so what a shot in the, in the, the, in the,
conference tournament. His body was turned sideways. It looked like he jumped from behind the three
point line. And he ended up at like the free throw. Yeah. It makes it. What's crazy is he played
three years at Lipscomb. And then that was at Lipscomb. So he's celebrating in that gym. He
played three years. So he sends him home after transferring there. That's brutal. You got to see
that shot. So it was a wild ending. The madness is here. The Atlantic Sun has become the Atlantic fun.
But poor Easter. I mean, now that I can't believe they changed. I didn't know they changed that rule about the NIT. So
So Eastern now can't even make the NIT.
I mean, they can.
They'd have to be picked, but they may not be.
And you said Lipskin was the number two seed.
I think there were three seats.
So the one and the three are already gone right at the beginning.
So the Atlantic Sun is going to be wild.
I just, these conference tournaments, you know, half the time we can't name a player on the court.
Actually, all the time you can.
But we're already getting these crazy endings.
I'm just hoping we get them all the time.
I'm hoping it's another year where there's so many of them to celebrate.
I hate it for Eastern because I was going to.
I wanted to go.
I was going to go to the finals if Easter was in it because I thought, because, you know,
they would host, and now they're not going to be in it.
They're not hosting nothing.
I think Bremen, Kentucky's own, Ray Harper coaches Jacksonville State.
Not anymore.
It was a different guy.
It was a different guy.
Yeah, they interviewed a different guy after the game.
So I don't know who that was, but he was very happy.
8-9-280-2287.
A couple open lines.
Give us a shout.
By the way, at 10.
1040, the women's team takes over this station.
The women are playing in the women's SEC tournament today.
So if you're listening in Lexington and Louisville, at 1040,
we have to shift over to the women's game.
We will be on everywhere else.
And for those of you listening on IHeart, you can stream, write this down,
WSFC in Somerset.
So what does SFC stand for?
Southern Fried Chicken.
There we go.
W. Southern Fried Chicken in Somerset, you can switch your stream there and hear us live because the women's team is playing.
Drew, is this the last game?
Kyra Elsie will coach at Kentucky.
Feels like it, although they're the higher seed.
They're playing Georgia also had a terrible year, but Kentucky lost at Georgia.
Maybe they win this one.
I don't think there's magic in the tank like they had a few years ago.
They go on a surprise run.
The way the season ended, it seems it's going to be over quickly.
in Greenville.
Do you, but let's say it's over.
Do you think Mitch makes a change?
It's been so bad, I think so.
I mean, what did they finish in conference?
Three or games?
Yeah, something like that.
You know, the tournament run saved her job, I think, a couple years ago.
You know, they had such a bad season when they made that great run, so she's kind of
the SEC.
But they were bad last year.
It was bad before that one time in Nashville, without that, there's really nothing to show
for.
And they've had, I mean, the other thing is, during that period, they've had Ron
Howard and Maddie sure. I mean, they've had two really, really good players and been able to
show nothing for it. I mean, you hate to say somebody needs to lose their job, but it does feel
like Ryan might be, might be time for a change. Coaching profession is a tough world. Sometimes you
got to make tough decisions, and I know. Would you make that decision? I think, yeah, I think you have to.
I think this like Louisville does and like Vanderbilt does. I think you just, you got to get to a point
you have to. Yeah, I mean, they have like, I don't know who they have bringing in, but, I mean,
they just have, there's no positive momentum whatsoever. Yeah, I mean, everyone gets killed by the South
Carolinas and LSUs, but they lost by 30 to old miss in Rupp Arena here in the last game of
the season. It was just, with the four wins, the ones outside of that, they weren't even really
in many of them at all. It's not just losses that's going to get a good. Hopefully they win today,
but if they don't, I think we might be seen, and they're not going to win the conference tournament.
South Carolina has it lost all year.
And it's in Greenville.
It's going to be a South Carolina party.
Yeah, so it's not going to happen.
859-280-2287.
We got lines if you would like to talk.
Kentucky and Vandy, 19 and a half points.
We think the crowd's going to be like tonight.
I think it would be a great crowd.
The crowd has brought it every home game.
For a 9 o'clock game.
Bring it.
It could be last read.
Oh, that's true.
What if it was the last read?
It's not just the seniors.
Freshman could be leaving soon.
I didn't even think about that.
We'll take a break, very back.
T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay.
Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones.
Welcome back, Tucky Sports Radio. We're going to go to the phone here and just take it. Remember, WSFC 1240 in Somerset.
You might need to switch over if you're listening in Lexington or Louisville or on I heart on Lexington or Louisville station to WSFC in order to hear us here at about 10 minutes because the women's team will come.
One person writes, Matt, you've always said, do not hire someone.
just because they went to your school,
is that true of Kyra Elsie?
Yeah, I mean, I think that's the point.
You don't, if it's a tie,
I'll hire somebody that played at Kentucky.
So if Mark Pope has a good tournament run,
and it's down to Mark Pope and an equivalent coach,
I don't mind saying tiebreaker to Mark Pope.
But you don't take Mark Pope over Scott Drew
because you happen to have Mark Pope go here.
That's my rhyme where you get yourself in trouble.
Yeah, if there was a former player here,
that ended up had established himself enough.
We would probably be open to it, but there's no, hasn't been anybody out there.
And people will say, well, why don't you hire Travis Ford?
What would you want to hire Travis Ford now?
Like, after all these years, people used to say, what about John Pelfrey?
Would you want to hire John Pelfrey right now?
Like, you have to, you can't let yourself be blinded.
I think Duke screwed up with John Shire.
I mean, maybe it'll work, maybe it won't.
But, like, it was Duke.
They could have anybody in the country, and they took an assistant.
Like, Kenny at Louisville.
Like there's just a ton of examples.
Yeah.
Well, Kyra was of all.
Let's not forget that.
Well, she was from Kentucky.
She was on the staff.
Yeah.
And with her, I guess it was kind of unique circumstances with how Matthew Mitchell left unexpectedly.
But I completely agree with that rule in most cases.
You need some proven head coaching experience.
It's something close to your caliber of a school.
I would want to see before I hire a head coach in a place like Kentucky.
Antonio Reeves and Trey Mitchell.
Senior day.
Let's just talk about their.
careers really quick. First Antonio
Reeves. Best
transfer since when?
Well, Oscar. Are Oscar
and Antonio the best transfers
that we've had in
a long, long time? I mean, we did this
a while. We mentioned Kyle Macy, some you go way
back, but certainly recently, Travis
Ford, yeah. Of the Cal
era, it's not even close. Oscar and Antonio
Antonio exceeded
everyone's expectation, right?
I mean, especially this year.
And think about it, he almost left to go back to
Illinois State. Can you imagine if he was playing at Illinois State this year?
No. I can't imagine what it would do for our team and would hurt his chances as far as getting
drafted and becoming a NBA prospect. That's why a lot of the reasons I was pretty negative last
spring. I'm like, how is it May and we do not have Antonio Reeves on this roster? That should have
done on the plane home from Greensboro last year. Well, I mean, you got to give that dude credit.
I mean, he's turned himself into, you know, his numbers are unbelievable.
unbelievable.
50, what is he?
48, 50% from the field,
43 or 44% from 3,
89% from the free throwal line.
A guard that shoots over 50% from the field is crazy.
Right now, he's still got a few more games play, obviously,
but he has the highest points per game average of the Cal era of anyone.
He's tied with Murray.
Is that right?
A couple spots ahead of Monk.
He's made himself into such a great player.
You know, last year he was just kind of a spot-up shooter.
He had to be open, had to get into the ball.
Now he can drive and get the floater.
He has made himself into an NBA prospect.
And you say he's tied with Murray.
What's amazing is Murray was on a team where he had to score that much.
This is a team where he's scoring those points.
Again, just take Saturday.
He scored 24 and he was like the sixth guy we talked about.
And then he's just gotten so much better at everything.
And I think that's what's been really.
cool. Even defense. He became a
defense player. He tested
the waters and they basically said you're
just a three point shooter, go and prove everything else.
And my goodness, he added everything.
He can score from anywhere
on the court efficiently. He will
play in the NBA. And I would never
imagine that. I would not have
thought that last summer, but he will play
in the NBA. I think because of
what we said, he's developed an all-round game and he's
earned the right now to get a shot in a shooter's
game, he's a shooter. Trey Mitchell
started the year. Awesome.
I mean, first half of the year was one of our most valuable players.
Then he struggled.
Then he got hurt.
And he, you know, he's only played one game back, struggled.
Do you think in the tournament he's going to be a guy that ends up making an important impact?
There will be a game where we go, wow, they are so lucky they had Trey Mitchell.
I think back to like at Florida, they don't win that without his experience.
You go early in the year when they didn't have seven footers were like against Kansas.
That was a loss.
But he was playing so good against Kansas.
so much bigger than he's normally asked to play.
So even though he's kind of fizzled out with minutes with his injury recently,
he was invaluable up until Big Z and everyone has kind of taken over that role.
It's hard to think where this team would have been to start the season without him.
With the 3-7-footers out, he was it.
He was our only inside presence.
So he earned the respect, I think, of everybody.
I hate it.
He got hurt because, man, he was doing a lot of great things.
I hated he had to get hurt most of this SEC season.
Yeah, well, congrats to both those guys.
It's neat to have a senior day where I know Trey Mitchell's only been here one year,
but these are guys that like, we know, especially Antonio.
I think this will be a neat night for Antonio.
As good as he is, and as much as the fans like him,
I'm not sure that he's gotten the quote-unquote love a dude of his talent would get
because of Dillingham and Shepard, to be honest with you, and Zee and all that.
He'll get it tonight, and Drew, I think that's cool.
Definitely, and if they can give him that All-American Award,
that he's in the conversation for.
Then he's really in some elite company.
Just keep rattling off stats.
I mean, he'd be the first, or only Oscar and Malik Monk have done it since Ulyss had one.
So, I mean, there's only been three since the guy that's coaching right now,
has an All-American Award.
And it's been a lot of good players in that span.
Yeah.
Reeves could add that to his resume.
Very exciting.
Who's up first, Shand?
Anthony.
Anthony.
Anthony.
Go ahead, Anthony.
Hey, guys.
Sorry.
Super excited about March coming up.
I wasn't really looking forward to it
halfway through the season, but I think they've
turned it around and I'm pretty excited about it.
But back to the left-game.
I've seen these videos on TikTok where people
shoot the shot and then they
have a question after the two or three. That last
shot, he jumped coming out on a three-point line
and shot it like almost
Yeah, I can't, I'm sorry, man, your phone's
messing up. I don't
I, I appreciate the call.
I mean, I wanted, he seemed excited and I
like, I don't understand
And I talk to people on the phone, like in day-to-day life.
And phones don't mess up, Shannon, in the real world, like they mess up on here.
Have you noticed that?
Why is that?
Is this just happening all over?
Like, are none of us able to have phone calls?
It goes back to Bobby Petrino.
I think he's hacking, still hacking all of our phone lines.
Like he did that one time.
We joked that we had the phone lines messed up.
We joked it was Bobby Petrino that did it.
I don't remember that.
Yeah.
Okay.
Well, I, I don't know.
It just feels like it happens an abnormal amount of time on here.
Who's next?
Let's go to Kevin.
Kevin, go ahead.
This is why we shouldn't take phone calls.
I don't, I don't understand.
Kevin?
Hello?
I mean, again, it's like other people, it's like they forget how to use the phone.
On hold for a while.
You've been on hold for six minutes, dude.
You've been on hold for six minutes.
Get us off speaker phone.
Take your time.
You get way too much.
patience for this guy but see people say shan and i don't have enough patience people say that i'm like
oh i i see on bond that bridge people write and go oh matt's you know i'm scared to call because matt'll
cut me off and all that but but like it's you're you have the phone you're holding it up just talk
go ahead kevin all right i appreciate the call you know what you gave him a chance i gave him a chance
multiple chances and and well we're old for two today on phone calls

We're hoping we get some calls
where the people are good at operating the phone.
Let's talk seating scenarios here for the SEC tournament.
Tonight we need to win.
If we win tonight, five-seat is a zoothing.
as low as we can go.
So that's good.
We don't have to play that late 930 game.
If we win tonight and we beat Tennessee, no matter what, we move up to at least a four seed.
All right.
So even no matter what happens in the other games, if you win tonight and beat Tennessee,
you're at least a four.
If you win tonight beat Tennessee and Tennessee loses tonight to South Carolina,
you could be a two.
You could go all the way up to a two.
So I think the scenarios that I understand,
have us as either being a two, a four, or a five.
I don't think any scenario where we're a four or a two without beating Tennessee.
I think the easiest way to think about this is if you lose, you are a five.
If you beat Tennessee, you could be drew a four if Tennessee wins tonight,
or potentially if everything works out a two if Tennessee loses tonight.
Sounds about right.
If South Carolina beats Tennessee tonight, Kentucky could play to give South Carolina,
of the championship, they're still able to get ahead of Tennessee.
Yes, no, no.
If South Carolina wins tonight and we beat Tennessee and then South Carolina, I think, is
at Mississippi State.
Correct.
If they were to win that game, they would win the SEC outright.
A preseason pick to finish last, if I'm not mistaken.
And also, the other thing to remember is if South Carolina beats tonight, Tennessee
tonight and we beat them and then South Carolina lose to Mississippi State,
we'd have a share of the title.
We could still, there's still a decent world where we could.
could have a share of the of the SEC title in that in that setup it's actually not that
crazy uh i mean south carolina beating tennessee would be a little difficult but you would
have a five-way tie at 13 and five five teams tied at 13 and five that tie breaker gets crazy which
that type but it's south carolina i think if south carolina beats tennessee tonight
and we beat tennessee south carolina is the one seed no matter what go the five-way tie the order
would finish South Carolina, Kentucky, Tennessee, Auburn, Alabama.
So Alabama can end up in fifth in that scenario.
You can have Alabama and Auburn playing in the quarterfinals against each other.
Just a week ago, Alabama was number one.
And they've lost three straight games here right now.
So really, I mean, this South Carolina game against Tennessee is a massive game tonight.
Is it in South Carolina or is it in Knoxville?
It is in South Carolina.
Yeah.
So that is, but for our purposes, a two-seat is sitting there.
I mean, basically, get Tennessee to lose tonight, and we beat them.
We're two in the SEC tournament.
We play at 7 o'clock on Friday night, which would be almost perfect, right?
And Nashville will be rocking if they end up going with all that momentum into the SEC tournament.
It would be awesome.
And there's probably not too many people that are overly confident about that game in Knoxville,
but we didn't feel good about it last year, and they wouldn't want it.
We thought Auburn might beat this Kentucky team.
Certainly winnable.
smack them.
So right when you think it might be a game, Kentucky is likely to lose,
that's when they're most likely to surprise you.
Yeah, 859-280-2287.
Do you, knowing we're not going to have to be that six,
play 930 on Thursday night,
do you think we have to be get a buy to win the SEC tournament
or do you think we can win it from Thursday?
There's just been one team to do it, right?
Go from Thursday?
Yeah, I think there's been one team.
Arkansas, maybe.
I think Georgia.
Was it Georgia?
Somebody did it.
Georgia went from a Thursday and won it.
It's tough, man.
I mean, it can be done.
Connecticut won five in a roll in the Big East tournament that one year.
It can be dumb, but it's going to be really difficult.
Well, we're talking about South Carolina and Tennessee playing for the title pretty much.
If everything goes chalk, I think you would have to play South Carolina then Tennessee just to get to Sunday, having already played a Thursday game against whoever.
But, you know, to be honest with you, though, I don't hate that.
I mean, look, Alabama and Auburn are probably better matchups for us on paper, but I also think they're better teams.
Like, if you told me, if you told me to get to the finals, my path is South Carolina, Tennessee, Alabama, Auburn.
I don't hate it.
I don't want to play like Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee, which there's a world that's your path or something like.
I don't mind South Carolina being in that group because I don't know, Drew, that I think they're all that good.
But if you have a two-seed, this is, I think, the important part.
If you can get a two-seed, that group of teams, Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina, Auburn,
you don't have to play two of them to win rather than three.
And I think Tennessee is the one to avoid.
And then in the scenario I just brought up, you're playing them on a Saturday, and then you look up and whoever you're facing had a pretty reasonable road to get there.
and you've already played three games, two of them being South Carolina and Tennessee,
that are going to be fights.
The two-seat-so that just makes Sunday much harder, whoever it is.
The two-seat is the path to give you the best chance to make the finals.
And it's there.
And it's there.
It's there.
We just need South Carolina to beat Tennessee tonight.
And then we just got to go to Knoxville and beat them,
and then call our friends in Starkville and say, go get a victory.
It's not too much to ask.
That is not a crazy scenario.
South Carolina is a five-and-a-half-point underdog.
not crazy.
Tennessee's a five and a half point favorite tonight at South Carolina.
Yep.
Ooh, that's juicy.
Who's next?
Lance.
Lance.
Lance, go ahead, Lance.
Hey, Matt.
Real quick, I think, didn't Georgia, didn't they come off with that Thursday night and
win at the year of the tornado?
Yeah, that's why I said.
Georgia was the one who had done it.
Yes.
Okay, yeah, I thought it was a year that of the tornado.
But I was rewatching wrestlers for the third time.
Well, thank you.
And I had a, oh, no, anything documentary I love
especially wrestling, and it's kind of an ode to the state of Kentucky and the city of Louisville.
But a couple questions.
You may have answered it.
Any news on a second season?
And then a follow-up question for you and Shannon, if you could book or Shannon could compete against one former OBW alumni, who would have been?
I would compete against no one.
I would like to get in a verbal, like in the ring back and forth with Jim Cornett.
I think that would be fun.
We can make that happen.
I'm sure.
Shut up.
But in theory, I would like to do that.
We have no news on a second season.
Netflix has not told us no, but they also haven't told us yes.
And in most shows, they tell you yes or no by now.
They just keep putting us into extensions.
So it's clearly they're not against it, but they haven't said yes.
So we'll find out.
At this point, if they did it, they would probably not tape it until this fall,
so it wouldn't come out for a while.
So we'll see.
but we don't know.
Shannon, who would you want to take on?
Well, it wouldn't be Brock Lozner.
It wouldn't be Batista.
Yeah.
Randy Orden, maybe.
Shannon the dude versus Randy Orrard?
Actually, John Cena.
My God, he would kick my ass.
Shannon the dude versus John Cena.
I would just like that pose down in the ring before, Sharon.
I mean.
Drew, would you like that?
Oh, yeah.
I mean, it'd be hard to tell them apart, really.
You could pick Kelly, Kelly, Kelly.
Oh, well, I was thinking, you know, males.
Well, you can't even beat a female.
Who's up next?
Good grief.
Turn his mic up.
I know.
He's on one today.
Go ahead.
Let's go ahead.
Shane.
Shane, go ahead, Shane.
Hey, I'm wondering if anybody has ever noticed this.
If you guys have noticed this, I love this team.
They're the funnest team.
That Arkansas games Saturday was like a blast to watch.
But one thing I've noticed is that Rob Dillingham is probably
the only player in college basketball that I've seen in the last 30 years that jumps when he
shoots a free throw and he jumps over the line. And I'm wondering if that's it, y'all think if that's
that. Well, that is against the rules if he does it. He does do that? Yes, every free throw he
shoots, he jumps about two or three inches and he jumps over the line. And I'm thinking, man, one of
these days, if the coaches don't, you know, make him aware of that, that could come back to
bite us, you know, in March.
And I see that every time.
So you're saying he does it.
You're saying he does it every time.
Pretty much every time I watch for it.
He jumps and his toe goes over the free throw line.
And I wanted to make you aware of that.
I just see if y'all knows.
Yeah, I certainly have not noticed it.
No.
Yeah, you have pay attention to that next time.
One more thing, I wanted to tell this for about five years.
I remember you're not going to like this, but the other guys are going to love this.
You got it.
You got it.
Hey, five years ago, I'm going down the road.
It was a post-game show.
And sometimes I have a nose whistle.
I kid you not.
Sometimes I have a nose whistle.
And I'm going down the road and I hear this nose whistle.
I'm like, man, I need to blow my nose.
And then I'm like, wait a second, I'm not breathing right now.
And then I realize it's Matt Jones.
I don't have a good.
Yes, you do.
People say that.
People just say, oh, Matt, John.
You didn't prove it?
You didn't prove it?
I did, too.
Oh, Matt.
That's not proof.
Just that you happened that having a nose with.
and it snow so loud you didn't think you were breathing that's not you had one definitely it was it was
most definite because i have one folks these callers today you had a good question about rob dillingham
