This is Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Now here's Matt Jones.
Welcome, everyone.
It is Kentucky Sports Radio here live Thursday, March the 7th, at the KAS Bar and Grill,
where last night happiness rained as the cats beat Vanderbilt.
I didn't even remember what the final score.
9377.
9377, which is about the score I picked on the...
I was going to say that.
I think you nailed it.
I think I was off by a point or two, but I think I was pretty close.
Yeah, you were.
You could give us a shout on the Clark's Puppet Shop phone line, 859-280-2287.
A-Vision Autoglass Text Machine is 772-7524, and this edition sponsored by the T.J. Smith Lawavis.
You call T.J.L. Make them pay.
cats, you know, kind of meandered a little bit for a lot of the first half,
then hit four threes on the final four plays.
That was to me the four plays that sort of testify what this team is.
Their three best shooters hit four threes on four plays.
They go from five down to five up,
and Vandy didn't even play bad during that time.
They just couldn't stop you.
And then in the second half, they jump out early and kind of take a double-digit lead
and hold the way through in the second half.
are now, what is it, 22 and 8, Ryan, with one game to play Saturday at Tennessee.
My big takeaway last night was I felt like the team, Kentucky was kind of struggling
offensively, kind of missed a lot of shots, and they end up with 93 points.
I mean, it just blows my way.
They worse, I mean, I think with eight minutes at the 12-minute timeout at the first half,
so eight minutes in the game, I think they only had like 10 or 12 points.
And I remember thinking, well, they're not going to hit the over.
Not to hit the over.
89.
And then they go and do it.
because they're so good.
That's why this team's so special
and why when they get down, you never really
panic because you can blink
and they've put 15 points on the board in a hurry.
Last night I think it was, what was it,
tied when they had the four straight threes?
I mean, they weren't down, but they just showed
they can change the game in an instant, especially
when Rob Dillingham's involved.
Dillingham, I don't think I've ever
seen a player that's more hit or miss than Dillingham.
But when he gets hot, he is amazing.
For like 16 minutes, he was awful.
Yeah. And then the last four
minutes, first half. Amazing. Doesn't miss.
Second half, I think he scored a ton at the beginning and then didn't score.
Like, he's just, he is the most hot and cold thing you've ever seen in your life. It's amazing.
I've never seen someone as they get hot. They're just unstoppable and then they just turn the switch.
It's like, okay, I'm done.
No, he's like NBA jam. When the fire thing would light up. He's heating up.
Like when you get that, that's how he is. He's NBA jam.
He hit that one shot in the second half, went to the right side.
about 10 feet away to the basket,
went up, kind of faded away,
put it in his right hand and banked it off the glass.
I don't think people appreciate how ridiculous.
That was crazy.
When he took that shot, that's one of those shots that if anyone takes it but him,
you're like, dude, that's the stupidest shot I've ever seen.
A fallaway going in the opposite direction off the glass.
Off the glass.
That was crazy and it went in.
He somehow made it look natural, too.
Yeah.
Like to anyone else who would look like they were throwing up a prayer,
that just looks like something he does.
And there was another one.
He drove to the left side.
He went off the wrong foot and somehow spun it around and made a layup.
Like, how does he do that?
This is the most geometrically amazing team of all time.
Their ability, we've talked about this,
the ability for Rob, Shepard, and Reeves to throw things off the glass.
It continues to amaze me.
It's like they're, the only other person I've seen better than those three is Tim Duncan.
And, like, they're like that.
And when Rob goes to the rim at 6-1, 6-2,
he'll go up with it, then pull it down to his hip, and then bring it way out to the side,
and then lay it up the top of the glass where it doesn't even have the right angle to go in,
but he spins it perfectly.
But then he'll make it look natural.
He'll be looking at the crowd before it goes in.
It's just normal to him.
It's wild.
Good game by a lot of people.
How about this?
Four people on Kentucky made at least two threes, and Reeves wasn't one of them.
Yeah.
I was hoping he'd get a second, because I bet you we've rarely had five guys make.
That may be true.
I mean, maybe in the Petino era, there were a couple teams that did, but it wouldn't have happened much.
You know, DJ Wagner has found his shot.
He's shooting the ball well.
How well is he shooting?
I know it.
Start the second half, Justin Edwards came out.
He busted a couple threes.
You know, he's getting his confidence back.
But that stretch you mentioned at the end of the first half where they got four threes from four different guys in just a matter of like a minute, 30 seconds was just amazing to watch.
You know, Wagner's got eight and three games after not hitting one for an entire month.
I love that he has moved on from that little funk, and they're not just going, and he is making them very efficiently.
Yeah.
Well, it's an exciting win, and now, you know, Kentucky will wait for what's next.
Last day in Rupp for a lot of people.
There was a lot of, did you see all the things going on?
Like, for some reason, I had two different videos of actually three different, two different videos,
and then one text of a person that wasn't those two videos.
three different things of women walking up to the bench and talking to players during the
camera.
Well, that video camera caught.
Some lady came up to talk to Tyler Ulyss in the middle of the game.
You had a woman who came up and talked to Ugo and he rolls his eyes.
That's true.
You had the woman come up and talked to Tyler Ullis.
And the look on Rob Dillingham's face is like, what did you just say to him?
I'm really interested in what that was.
And then you had another one.
Somebody sent me that said a woman was up there talking to them and stayed.
so long the police or the like ushers came and escorted her away.
Goodness.
What was going on?
I don't know.
Like is it just like last game?
Women talked to players day.
Everybody's getting comfortable.
So last time in Lexington, they're shooting their shot with this team everybody loves.
Maybe we need some boundaries.
Someone called in about one to put glass up like hockey.
Maybe we should consider that.
I have always thought that it is like really easy to get to the players.
I mean, like, at UK, this isn't true everywhere,
but at UK, you can literally walk right up to them while they're sitting there
if you have a ticket in that second.
You guys probably heard that story at Rex told.
He had a stalker, and he looked behind the bench,
and the stalker sitting right behind him and behind the bench one time.
And he told security, he said, hey, this girl.
He had a stalker who would come to the women game?
Yeah, and sat right behind the bench one time.
And he, I think he had to get them.
By the way, shout out to Rex's, to Rex with his book.
We haven't really talked about it very much, but congrats to him.
He's been all over the media circuit, so good for him.
I started reading it.
I'm not too far into it, but I've got it.
Got a copy and going.
That lady that the camera caught came up and talked to Tyler Ullis,
I mean, the game was going on.
Do you think she was hitting on him?
The look that Rob Dillon had gave.
I don't think the woman talking to Ugo is not hitting on him.
That looked like, I don't think it was his mom,
but it looked like it could be like a mom coming up and saying something.
But the woman that came up to Ulyss, and again, I have no idea what she said,
but by the look on Rob's face.
Yep, that's what...
There was a look that was like...
Oh, wait a minute.
Because he just, he kind of...
That's the look I would give.
You know, I've given that look once.
There was a woman that once came up to you a while back
and said something I couldn't believe they said.
Do you remember that?
No, I don't even remember.
You have to tell me during the break.
It was at the SEC tournament.
You don't remember that?
No.
I mean, to your credit, you like, shook it all.
you smiled and shook it off, but like you...
Well, no, I'm curious.
Let's take an early break so you can tell me.
You don't remember that?
No, I know.
Maybe I'll...
Well, the SEC tournament is always when people are the most.
Yeah.
Going back a long time.
Yeah.
That's when the...
That's when people are like...
But I just remember...
Well, never mind.
I can't believe you don't remember that.
Maybe it'll...
It was a tin roof.
It was like a night after a game.
You didn't do...
You were...
completely innocent.
Yeah.
But you don't remember the woman?
You have to tell me.
I don't remember.
Okay.
It happens so often.
That's what I'm saying.
Like,
I did,
does that,
do you just have women throwing?
Is it?
I'm just so used to it.
Is that why you're starting to wear a tight t-shirt?
Yeah,
you know.
You're like,
these ladies come on up and.
I got to take one quick story
for the post-game show involving a husband and wife.
He's trying to change the subject.
Okay.
First caller,
guy named Farmer,
calls,
go cats,
and hangs up.
Later in the show, Farmer's wife called to publicly chastise him for embarrassing to himself on the postgame show.
I like that.
I like that.
Well, you know, sometimes that happens.
Was the show good?
It was good.
Yeah, we got off the air at about 120 in the morning, so nice early morning for everybody.
Well, good.
Well, yeah, by the way, Cal said after the game, he had to go home because his wife was making soup.
Yeah, no, have soup.
Which is the most old man thing I've ever heard in my life.
My wife is making soup.
So it was a fun kind of ending for the night.
How was the crowd?
Was the crowd a good crowd?
Yeah.
Very good crowd.
You know, I wondered being a 9 p.m.
Vanderbilt Wednesday, but everybody loves this team so much.
Well, there was no doubt.
That was the best pregame crowd in the bar for a weekday game this year.
Oh, we've had some weekends better for a weekday, though.
I mean, we were out.
A lot of people didn't even get in, so I'm sorry about that.
But that was a, you could tell the environment there.
So, all right, so senior day.
all that happens.
You know, now we look at the SEC tournament.
I think it is set up.
We were talking about this.
If we win against Tennessee, because of Alabama losing and Tennessee winning, we will be the two-seed.
How about that?
If we win, we will be the two-seat, which is perfect.
Friday night, 7 o'clock, everybody makes their way down there, pre-game show, all that.
Like, it's going to be great.
If we lose, we probably have.
the five unless something crazy happens. We would need a massive upset to not be the five.
So I think you're either the two or the five. And if it's the two, the way the bracket is set up
now, you couldn't ask for it to be better. We'd play the winner of Ole Miss, Texas A&M, and then we
probably play Alabama. So we would avoid until the finals, Tennessee, Auburn, or South
Carolina. They're all in the other bracket. In Florida, they're all in the other bracket. You couldn't ask for
a better setup, don't you think?
Yeah, they flashed that graphic on the screen.
We're all looking at like, oh, I'm taking that right now.
Because the thing is, Alabama's going to win.
They play Arkansas at home.
Okay.
Auburn plays Georgia at home.
So you've got to assume they're going to win.
Florida plays Vandy.
So you got to assume all three of those teams are going to win.
South Carolina plays at Mississippi State.
They could lose that.
But remember, if we're in a one-on-one tiebreaker with them, they beat us.
So, like, we need Alabama and Auburn to be in the
tie break as well because we beat them.
Does that make sense? Yes.
So we can't count on Alabama.
If we dropped the six losses, we can't count on Alabama and Auburn being there to help
us get the tiebreaker because they're not going to lose on Saturday is the problem.
Well, it's not crazy Kentucky.
I can see your head exploded.
It gives me a headache.
You heard his breakdown on the post game show last year.
Oh, I really broke it down on the post game show.
It gives me a headache.
But it's not crazy.
Kentucky's played very well in Knoxville.
the last several years.
It's a win or two.
Go down a win.
Lose your playing on Thursday as a five.
That's a lot at stake.
It is, but it's also important just with the way Tennessee smacked Kentucky in the mouth in
Lexington.
I think it's important just for these guys morale and confidence to know that they can
punch back in that one because that was an embarrassing game.
Kentucky didn't even have a lead for 40 minutes at home.
So even seating is more important, but I think it's important just to get a win on the
VALs going into the postseason.
What's going to be big for Tennessee too, by the way, because
they're playing for a one seed in the NCAA tournament.
And if they beat us and then go down there and make the finals of the SEC tournament,
I think they're going to get a one seat because Arizona just doesn't play enough good teams.
Probably won't matter because either they'll be the one in Arizona, the two,
or Arizona will be the one and they're the two.
But either way, they got a lot to play for as well.
Viscovy finally going to go through his senior day festivities down there?
I think he's only like 19.
He's got to be going to be going on.
It's got to be 114.
So 859-280-2287.
I know Ryan is very short with all this because he just wants to meet a remind him.
Yeah, with time going on break.
I have a story about women hitting on all of you and me down there.
The Shannon one that was at the bar, right?
Shannon, when you were playing.
Oh, yeah.
I don't even know if I remember this.
What is right?
Do you all, you do you just not remember any?
Oh, it just happens every day.
Okay.
after a while.
Gotcha.
All right, whatever you say.
Take 5-9-280-2287.
Where are you folks from?
Mulemberg County in the house.
Look at her shirt she's got on.
Kentucky Wesley and baseball.
That's good to see.
We will take a break and be right back.
If you came in town for the game,
the restaurant opens at 11,
but you're welcome to come in here and watch before.
This is Kentucky Sports Radio.
Is this what you think the woman saying to Ryan?
Probably so, yeah.
Or what the woman sang to Tyler Ulyss last night?
You told me the story, and I have zero memory of it.
I don't know how you...
Again, maybe you just...
It just happened so much.
Maybe you just have more sort of people into you than I realized her.
I thought he was just Ryan Lemon, you know...
I like me you told the story, like,
and this is when you looked your worst.
I'm not saying that to be mean.
I'm just saying that she must have really liked you
at the time to have been to have been...
interested.
This is really into the personality.
We've all had this and we've all had our stages of being at the bottom.
All three of us.
Shannon's kind of looked the same and we'll look the same for the next 35 years.
He's looked like the puppet for Mr. Rogers for the last 50 years.
Like that's, but, but you know, we, we sort of have our, we go up and down.
Sure.
This group.
859.
We fluctuate.
Yeah, 859-280, 2287.
Couple open lines.
Give us a shout.
Did you see the state of Alabama drew their legislatures trying to pass some law that,
you know, everybody like now, they get all upset about DEI, diversity, equity,
and I'd say most people don't even know what it is, but they get upset.
And nearly every college in America has someone that does that.
There's a state of Alabama is trying to pass a law that bans the university, any state
university, from being a part of an organization that does DEI.
The problem is the NCAA does.
And so if you read the law like that, it would ban Alabama from playing football,
which I don't think they want to do.
Of all the states, that would be so funny if that went through and no one really considered that.
They'd be like, oh, whoops.
First Saving.
And now this.
Speaking of Saving, did you see what Saving said was the reason he decided to stop coaching football?
I saw that.
Sabin said that he, at the end of the year, the conversations with players.
about whether they were going to return
was basically like,
how much money you're going to give me?
And he said, I just decided I couldn't do it.
Now, to his credit, he then said,
I'm not saying that's bad.
I'm just saying that's not what I'm used to
and I don't want to start doing that,
which I respect.
I actually think Sabin's view is the view you got to have.
Okay, if you don't want to live in that world,
then you should move.
on and it's okay because there are going to be people drew coaches who take that world make it
work for them right and then that's what they do but if you don't want to then you shouldn't and
i think really then complain about it in some ways you should just do what say ban said and say okay
well maybe time for me to do something out yeah and i think we're going to be seeing this be a little
more common moving forward i know he's a little older and it was already close to retirement time anyway
but coaches are paid so much
and there's so much on their plate now.
I think like the Jay Wright early retirements
are going to be coming more and more common.
That's a different sport.
But, you know, they make so much money.
You can step away.
Or you're seeing guys take lesser jobs in the NFL
just to get away from the NIL and roster management college.
I think that will happen.
I don't know that coaches will coach forever now.
I still think we're in this messy transition
and in like two years this is going to be more organized.
I'm not going to say.
I mean, I think it's going to be, I mean, college football is going to be a professional sport.
So is college basketball.
Like, that's what it's going to be.
I mean, it's going to be a professional sport.
They'll sign contracts and people can like that or not.
The Supreme Court said it's got to happen.
It's going to happen.
But if there's this messy transition until we get there.
I think what will ultimately happen, though, is when we get there, Ryan,
every school will just have a person in charge of all that.
Right.
Like they won't let they won't make Mark Stoops do it.
You know what I mean?
It'll be like the GM of a football team.
So there's going to come a time here.
very soon where I think this will all be taken care of in its own way.
But until then, I think some of the older coaches are like, you know, Cal was on John
Wall's podcast.
And Cal basically said John, I was like, they were asking if John would ever want to be a coach.
And John was like, yeah.
And Cal goes, go to the NBA.
Don't do it here.
He was like, until we get this stuff figured out.
And I think there's something, I understand that because we're in this messy time until
we get order, which will happen at some point.
I totally agree with everything you guys are saying.
You know, we saw the Boston College coach.
He stepped down and said it's because he didn't,
that's how he did not want to run into running and run his program.
He was going to get fired, though, too.
He was going to get fired, though, too.
Kenny Payne's going to do that too.
Sorry, I know.
But he's going to be like, I don't want, you know,
there's too much going on, I'm going to go, yeah.
For Saban, you know, he's been a guy that's always kind of been,
like Calc and adapt.
If the game changes, he'll change, you know.
But if this is something that he believes in, you know,
if that was the final straw, maybe decide,
Okay, look, I just need to go off and go sit in the TV booth.
Tell everyone the folks that owned are here.
Tell everyone where we are tomorrow.
We're at Red River Gorge, where?
Okay, it's a farm in Rogers, Kentucky.
Let me look it up real quick.
Just talking with yourself for just a second.
What county is Rogers?
Wolf.
Yeah.
So I would venture to say this is going to be our first remote ever in Wolf County that I would think so.
Oh, we're checking Wolf off the box.
Wolf is what county that Red River Gorge is in, right?
Isn't that?
But it's not a county that I've been to very often.
I went to it for the book, but I haven't been to it a ton.
But go ahead.
It's at Appalachian Rose Farm.
And they're going to give away the first 50 people, get a little KSR whiskey glass.
A little whiskey glasses.
Appalachian Rose Farm.
Uh-huh.
And it's in Rogers, Kentucky.
And we're going to do it in their new greenhouse, their glass greenhouse.
Okay.
Appalachian Rose Farm in Rogers, Kentucky.
So if you want to take a little Kentucky road trip tomorrow,
Yeah.
People always say, I want to see the state.
Here's your chance to go to Wolf County.
I guarantee it's beautiful.
You know, that part of the state is a beautiful part of the state, yeah.
859-280-2287.
Okay.
Went out.
We were asked this on the pregame show.
What if we went out?
What if we beat Tennessee, go to the finals, the SEC tournament?
What's our seed in the NCAA?
I think you're now looking at a three-seat, Drew, probably a solid three-seed and could end up anywhere.
If you're a three-seat, I think the amount of places we can.
can play. I think Spokane and Salt and Salt Lake kind of get off the table there and you're probably
playing somewhere where UK fans can go. I think Pittsburgh being the most likely. Yeah, I think you're a
pretty solid three seed. Maybe even on the verge of the two, if there's an upset ahead of you or
something crazy, because I think you're that strong of a three. If you were to beat Tennessee,
one of the best teams in the country in Knoxville, then put together a little something in Nashville.
I think that'd be a pretty dang good resume. That'd be hard to keep away from it. I think if you lose
to Tennessee, though, you're still a four.
I mean, you might still be a three when all is said and done, but you wouldn't go,
I'm fairly confident we're not going to go lower than four.
So I feel, I feel good about where Kentucky is in terms of seeding because I'd rather be a three.
So we don't, because I think the one seeds are a lot better than everybody else this year.
You know, in years past, sometimes the twos and threes are, I think if Tennessee's a one seed,
then I think the four best teams in the country are one seats, which is what you would hope.
Yeah.
But you'd much rather be here two or three and not have to play one of those.
until the final eight.
If you are one of those number one seeds
and Kentucky's sitting in your bracket as a four.
You hate it.
You hate that, though.
You hate it.
Yeah.
I mean, it really is almost unfair to the one seat.
Because you look at the other one seats.
They're like four seats.
They're like, what, Wisconsin and like, if you're a one and you tell me I can get
Kentucky or Wisconsin, like, come on.
You're going to take Wisconsin every day.
So you're right.
Some one seed is about to get unlucky if we're a full.
Yeah, we focus on how Kentucky kind of played itself.
in a spot they don't want to be in, but imagine being that team, you had a good year,
and you're like, wait a minute, why do I have to play them?
It's like what happened with Wichita State years ago where they were.
Nobody ever got, you know, for all people who complained about brackets,
nobody ever got screwed more than Wichita State.
Absolutely.
To be undefeated and to sit there and look at an eight-seed Kentucky.
I mean, that really stinks for them.
I mean, it does.
I mean, they almost beat us, but it still stinks for them.
They would have made a run in any other region, but they ran into the wildcats of the wrong
time. Even if they'd gotten by Kentucky, they still had some tough games.
That was just a tough bracket, the tough road that whole year.
You know, it's been funny in us historically.
The tougher, the bracket we get, the better we do.
It's when we get a bracket that we think is easy or opens up that we end up losing.
It's been really strange how that has happened, especially in the last seven or eight years.
All right, we'll take your call.
859-280-2287.
A lot of other stuff going on in the world of sports.
We'll take a break.

I was there for my cousin's wedding the night of the UK Mississippi State football game in November.
That's very nice.
And they tell me they're going to have Miguel's pizza.
You know, when every time we say, like, what's the best pizza in the state?
There's all these people going, Miguel's pizza.
I've never had it.
So I will get to taste it tomorrow because they are bringing Miguel's pizza to the remote.
This state famous pizza.
Literally, it's the one that gets brought up all the time.
Finally, we get to taste it.
When I saw Red River Gorge on our calendar, I knew that I would be leaving coming home with Miguel's.
I'm glad it's coming to the remote, but I was getting it one way or another.
I've had it before.
It lives up to the hype.
All right.
Tom Hart.
that game before ours
Tennessee South Carolina
Tom Hart was saying
you know Kentucky Vandy is next
it is senior day
and Jimmy Dykes makes some joke like
how do they
they have seniors at Rupp Arena
and Tom Hart says
yeah they have seniors they sit right
behind us at the games
oh
oh no
well what we think of that
Shannon fair or foul by Tom Hart
Fair. He's not wrong.
I mean, it's not wrong.
It's actually true.
You don't think that was a little mean by our guy, Tom?
No, no, no. He's like one of ours, right?
We joke, yeah, and he is, and he can make that joke because he is one of us, right?
We make the same jokes.
So I think it's perfectly fun.
That's a good way to put it.
Yeah, he's one of us.
We can make that joke so we can allow him to do it as well.
Now, Jimmy Dykes had said it, maybe we've got a different problem.
So he wouldn't do it.
So if it's Jimmy Dykes, no.
Yeah.
Oh, I'm fine with Jimmy, too.
Come on.
He's got a jet.
He brought that.
back by the way i do see oh jennie i didn't see oh yeah yeah he's got like new i like uh it's kind of
upgraded looking it's not cheap looking like he had before got like new i liked it better when it was
hand drawn on an race board yeah it's like new icons on there right okay well um that was quite a
shot though with the i had someone who's who uh who has family that sits right behind tom yeah
right me offended last night like not really offended but kind of like what's tom doing
I like Tom.
Even though it's at our expense,
I kind of like his comedic timing there.
That's a pretty good show.
And to the person that took offense to it,
if we're being honest,
if you have seats down there,
you could reach out and touch a senior
at any game from your seat.
Who's probably doing a little crocheting.
Maybe not that much,
but the joke was there for Tom.
I don't take it.
I will say this.
I do get,
I understand people's frustration,
but I will say this.
I think the crowd,
I think the young,
younger fans slamming the Rupp crowd has been over the top this year because the Rupp
crowd has been great.
Absolutely.
And so, I mean, you know, would it be better if it was students?
Yes, it would be better if it was students.
Is that ever going to happen?
No, it's never going to happen.
So knowing that, I think people are a little harsh on the crowd.
I mean, yeah, when you watch on TV, the first three or four rows may not be going crazy,
but the rest of the building's going crazy.
And so it's loud, you know.
Sometimes those seniors are going the craziest.
Now, it's not all of them, but they kind of get labeled as he's just old.
You just sit there and don't do anything.
Some of them are the most passionate in there.
There's no complaint the crowds at the football games and the crowds at the basketball games this year.
The crowds have been great.
Who's up first, Shannon?
All right, we'll start with Kevin.
Kevin, how are you, Kevin?
Here we go again.
Kevin.
You gave him a chance.
Look, you know, so let me just say something.
So yesterday, yesterday, we finished the show.
show and I get my car and I sometimes you know I look at the text machine while the show goes but then
sometimes I get my car after and I just read through them like or when I'm eating lunch read through them
just say well what did I miss what did people say and there was some there was some people who were
mad that I was like frustrated at people for their phone and they were like look you know
some of us live in places where the service isn't the best and I understand that I you know I guess that's
true and there's a patience level I maybe maybe should have and and so I was like you know what
I'm going to be better about that tomorrow and then I went and then I went into Chipotle.
Yeah.
Now there's this, I know this has nothing to do with the UK game, but sorry, there's a kid there
that is, you know, making the bowls.
And let me just say, I understand that's not the most exciting job in the world,
especially to place like Chipotle because there's only a handful of
choices. You know what I mean? Brown rice, white rice, black beans, brown beans, chicken beef,
like that's it. You know what I mean? It's not, yep, right? It's not like a big menu.
Drew, though, I've had this guy a number of times. He's relatively new there. And, you know,
he has it memorized in his brain. He'll go, what type of rice, beans, and meat.
And yesterday was the fourth time I've answered that question, and he never remembers or gets it right.
So he'll go, I'll go brown rice, black beans, chicken.
And then he'll get the bowl and he'll put it out, go, what kind of rice?
And I'll do it again.
Brown rice, then he'll go, did you say brown bean?
Like, he's never right.
And there's only 50, you think if you flip the coin, you'd get it sometimes.
And so I just, I want to ask him, I understand you may not get, why do you ask when we start if it, if it,
never locks in.
Like, why not just ask me as you go,
right? Like, he'll go
what type of rice, beans, and chicken, and I'll
say it, and then we go over
it again. The second time.
So with the combination of
the phone and that
just makes
it hard for me to then be
like not say anything. I still haven't say anything to
him, but if there comes
to point I just will say, man, why do you keep asking
me if it's not going to, like, click?
There's probably a lot of people listening right now that
have a teenager and they're like you just met a teenager.
Yes, what it sounds like.
I'm sure Ryan's probably like,
that's all teenagers? Yeah, that's
that was probably me when I worked
at Taco Johns. I was for, oh, what do you
want? I'm sure that
was me every night. Okay, fair enough.
Josiah, take
your clothes in the laundry room before you leave.
First time, second time,
third time. Josiah, take the dumpsters
out before you go to bed tonight. Take the dumps
out. Look, she knows.
It goes in one ear and out the other.
Yeah.
But it's clear he's memorized the, what type of rice, beans and meat?
And then you say it, though, and it's okay.
All right.
So, now what kind of rice?
It's just, I guess it's just like something you just say.
Become robotic.
It's like when you go to McDonald's now, the woman comes on and goes, will you be using
your app on this purchase?
Yep.
I don't ever know whether to answer that question.
The answer, of course, is always no.
Part of me wants to say, if I'm using the app,
Why am I in the drive-through to begin with?
Well, if you use the app and you say that, then you get a number,
you get your points.
Is that quicker, though, really?
It's not quicker, but you get points to get free stuff.
You, I bet you.
Oh, 100%.
See, I knew he's the kind of guy who got McDonald's points.
You say use your app?
Yes, I am.
They'll say, what's your number?
And it's like, 453-2.
And then, boom, my app will say you got 100 points.
So that's what they're asking me for is if I want points?
Yeah.
You should get it as much as you go.
I mean, probably, but I mean, you'd probably have a million free Diet Coke right now if you'd had the app.
The last thing I need is more Diet Coke.
But anyway.
I'm happily married.
I will say the only time Abby and I fight is when she pulls at that damn McDonald's app or something.
She can't get the code, and the lady in the window is waiting.
And I'm like, this is McDonald's.
Like, we need to be moving.
But she uses it.
Ryan's right.
It's got deals, but I have no patience when I'm in McDonald's line.
How much are we talking?
Well, like right now, I can go and get a whole free lunch.
I can get a free chicken sandwich and free ice coffee and free french fries.
I've got so many points.
There's been times where I'm like, we're not messing with the app today,
and then the total is like $2, and I'm like, all right, that was pretty cool app.
I'm sorry.
So I'm on your side, Matt, but I think we're on the wrong side.
I guess we're on the wrong side.
I guess I need to get the app.
Commonwealth Causes is entering week nine of their weekly queen of hearts drawing.
You get a ticket for $2.
You pick a card number.
They'll flip it over if you get it.
$10,000 pot.
Can you believe that?
$2 to maybe win $10,000.
Pretty good return.
I don't know how that math works,
but that's the way it is.
Don't miss your chance.
Go to commonwealthcauses.org.
They were the folks yesterday that took Bryce card to the game.
Did you see they honored him at the game before the game?
Oh, I didn't see that.
Before the game, they brought him out,
and the crowd gave him a nice obfaces.
I introduced him here at the bar last night,
and he got a great ovation here.
at the bar, too, which was very cool.
He was down there with them during the national anthem.
All the players were shaking his hand, too.
He was a part of all the pregame stuff.
When you introduced him in here last night, I got chili bumps because everybody just,
you know, a heartfelt round of applause of appreciation for him.
Yeah, it's commonwealthcauses.org.
Their official partner of UK athletics, Kentucky gaming license, 2761.
Can I give you a quick story about last night about the Bryce?
So Bryce and them are all sitting here.
He had his friends.
Yeah.
I said to him that your night is on me, whatever you want, right?
Very nice of you.
I was glad to do it.
Very nice of you.
But there was a guy at another table who wanted to buy them all like a shot or something or a drink.
I don't know what he wanted to buy them.
And I said, and he said, can I do that?
And I was like, yeah, sure, just tell your server.
When the bill came at the end of the night and I had it, those drinks he bought them were on mine.
Now, I'm glad to pay for him.
But he got the credit.
for buying them a round of drinks.
But he didn't.
That I didn't understand.
That's a pretty good move on his part, I think.
He probably got a photo.
There's probably a Facebook post right now.
I'm not trying to call the person out.
I'm just saying, so we'll take a break.
Be right back.
It's Kentucky Sports Radio.
The McDonald's app is apparently much more popular than I realized.
People are saying, one person writes, Matt, if you have the McDonald's app,
you can basically get free fries every day.
Is that true?
True.
Oh, that sounds very healthy.
That sounds like not what I need for my health.
I mean, if I could get fries every day for free, like what, how do they make it money?
A guy like you, though, that goes every day to get your large Diet Coke.
But I go to get the same thing.
I used to get a large Diet Coke and some breakfast sandwich now to try to like I will get,
I'll get a breakfast sandwich if I'm treating myself for a good day yesterday.
Yeah.
Otherwise, I'll just get the Diet Coke.
Just think about all those points you could have accumulated it over that time.
and you have just free stuff for a month.
McDonald's plane, like the whole Pepsi jet.
Maybe they'd send you that.
One person writes, Matt, I have the McDonald's app.
It's not worth the frustration.
It's annoying.
And all you get occasionally is a free small fry.
How about this one?
Richie Farmer.
I've got the McDonald's app and it's the bomb.
Amen.
They should put that on a commercial.
You know what, Richie, you should ask for that.
Richie knows what's up.
Richie definitely should ask for an endorsement there with that.
Today, I don't know if you saw in the Wall Street Journal is the story about Cream Abdul-Jabbar.
So this is neat.
They quoted me in it.
They used my tweet.
That's fine.
But here's the cool part.
After my tweet, they said 20 different companies reached out to him for NIL deals, including the maker of Rexpex.
So awesome.
That's awesome.
Now, that's kind of awesome.
That's very cool.
When the Wall Street Journal guy called me, I said to him,
I'm like, look, man, I hope the kids, like, cool.
I don't want it to be seen like I'm mocking the kid because I think it's awesome.
And I talked about it, and they used a quote, how, like, he looks like an every man.
I think that's why everybody likes him.
Like he's, I think I said he's accessible.
And the guy goes, oh, don't worry about it.
He loves it.
And he said some good stuff has happened.
And I didn't know what he was talking about.
20 different companies have come for NIL deals for him, which I think.
is very, very cool.
It's very awesome.
That's why we've got to pull for them to win the conference tournament to get in the NCAA tournament.
If he does that, he's going to blow up even more.
That game is Sunday.
I think I said Saturday, but the championship game will be Sunday to see whether or not.
I mean, their tournament starts tomorrow, I think.
Okay.
Yeah.
I can't wait to see him if they make the tournament.
And if they win a game or do anything, he will be selling Subway sandwiches.
He will be on everything.
But how about the Rexpex is such a great idea?
It is a great idea.
He said that he played in contacts for a while, and he just didn't like it, so we went back to the rec specs.
And here, how about this, Shannon?
He wears the rex specs to class.
As he should.
I mean, that's part of his branding now.
He said regular glasses fall off my face, so I just wear the rex specs to class.
It's got him strapped to his head.
Can you remember?
Isn't that awesome?
My man is walking to class with Rexpex on.
Might as well embrace it.
That's who he is at this point.
That's right.
Exactly right.
He's become a chick magnet wearing Rexpex.
Well, do we know that or you just get it?
Yes.
Have you seen the women in Terre Haute?
Yeah, he's a chick magnet.
Who's up next?
Bob and Jamestown.
Oh, good.
Bob, what's up?
You know, looking ahead to Tennessee after watching them play the Gamecocks.
And then the way, you know, game cops came back, got close to them the second half.
As UK, are the Gamecocks better than UK?
No.
That's right.
So I think we've got a really good chance.
No, I do.
This next game.
I think we have a great chance because I think Tennessee is very, very good.
But I think kind of like Rupp sometimes, Drew, as good as Rupp can be, because it's so big.
If you take us out, like Tennessee did us here, you take the crowd out of the game.
You know, you can kind of get through it.
I think Tennessee's arenas a lot like that.
I see no reason we can't win.
that game. I was there last year on Chris Lofton Day when Knoxville was just a celebration of Tennessee
basketball that day. They were a 12-point favorite. No one myself included thought Kentucky could win
that game. Next thing you know, C.J. Frederick's sticking his tongue out and the cats are winning
in almost called Thompson Bowling. I guess it's Food City Arena now. So it can happen to them just like it
can happen to Kentucky. What do you think the spread will be? Like six-seven, something like that?
I would think that Tennessee definitely be about a six or seven-point favorite. See, I think if that's the
case putting some stuff on the Tennessee or excuse me the Kentucky money line is a good because I think
they have a really good shot of win. I'm not saying they will but I'm going to pick them and I think
they got a really good shot right. Oh I do too like we said not just last year but that last several
years Kentucky's played well they'd Knox Tennessee had beat him here at rup and then we'd go down and
beat him in Knoxville it seems like for several years in a row yeah so I appreciate it Bob I think
I think that'll that has a really good chance to be good
I didn't realize that Tennessee is still playing for a number one seat
because I was thinking, well, they don't have anything to play for.
Well, yeah, they do.
Yeah, they do.
Yeah, they do.
I think if they beat us and, like I said, make the finals, I think they will be a one C.
Just because their resume is going to be better than Arizona's.
But I think if they lost us at home, they'd probably be a two, Drew.
So I do think they have a lot to play for.
Yeah, and I'm not going to surrender Saturday by any means.
But if Tennessee wins that one in Knoxville and we meet them a third time,
you know the old seeing a team three times, you give me Kentucky in Nashville.
see in Tennessee.
Yeah.
I wouldn't run from that matchup if they were to beat them on Saturday.
Yeah, but again, let's say you lose, your path through the SEC tournament gets a lot harder.
Yes, it does.
You play on Thursday in the second round, you might be playing like Auburn, then Tennessee, then
Alabama.
You might get Arkansas in the first round.
Yeah, I mean, you could have like the hardest path you could have if you end up losing
Saturday.
Who's next?
Josh.
Josh, go ahead, Josh.
I love this team, but I just wanted to ask.
Do you think Cal will ever change the starting five?
No, I do not.
I think specifically because of people wanting him to.
The guy last night, I appreciate the call, he made the worst point I've ever heard.
He was like talking about, he goes, why should they change the starting lineup?
Have you, we, we, they've won.
Well, we've also lost.
I mean, we're 22 and 8.
It's not like we're 30 and 0.
You know, people used to talk about changing the starting lineup when Booker and Eulis were here.
Well, that would be dumb because we had never lost a game.
This is a little different.
With that said, no, he's not going to change.
And Justin Edwards and DJ Wagner are playing a lot better.
So I don't think the discrepancy is as huge, Ryan, as it was.
The only counter argument would be it seems that Kentucky's always digging themselves out of a hole to start the game, every game.
Well, the best counter argument is the argument, Drew, I saw last night online,
which is you have two top five pick point guards that about eight minutes a game aren't on the floor, either one of them.
That's a good point.
Yep.
I mean, that's a good point.
You know, you don't have starting both.
Maybe you can start one of them.
But with that said, if DJ Wagner plays like he did last night, he's playing a lot better.
He's playing great.
Yeah, he started the two games before that.
Both games put the first points on the board with the three.
Also, worry, if you sit DJ and Edwards, do they have that same energy spark that you've had all year?
They might take it as a negative and might lose a little bit of them where Robin Reed have embraced that.
I don't know if you saw the interview.
with Ron Slay and whoever after the game last night,
and they asked Rob about being the sixth man,
and he said, well, when I come in, they're tired.
That's an interesting point.
I mean, that, you know, that is, that's not a bad point.
Although Rob usually cooks at the end of games and the end of halves, it looks like.
But that's a good point.
You do get that pop when those two guys come in.
There's no doubt about it.
So if you start a little slow, they're able to pick it back up and get you going quickly.
I hated the pop for a while.
When DJ was coming out, because it,
Even though it was pro the other guys, it had a negative effect on him.
It can't help but feel like DJ feels like you're cheering for me to come out.
It just can't help but feel like that.
Do we know why Brendan Canada didn't?
He went through it last year.
Through Senior Day last year.
I got you.
We want to do it twice.

We will take a break and be right back.
