Now here's Matt Jones.
Welcome, everyone.
It is Kentucky Sports Radio Monday, March the 11th.
It is SEC Tournament Week, and we are here on the KS Bar at the KS Bar and Grill to get you
ready. March Madness begins today. And it was a great start or end of the regular season as the cats beat the
balls on Saturday. You can give us a shout. Tughey, uh, the clocks puppet shop phone line 859, 280,000, 287. A Vision
Auto Glass text machine is 772-744 in this edition sponsored by the T.J. Smith law office.
If you call T.J. on make a pay. It's me and Ryan. Drew is in Nashville. Coming back just to go to
Nashville again. And Shannon is in Louisville. Ryan.
In the pregame show, you and I picked Kentucky.
Drew was a party pooper.
But I felt good about the game.
And then we kind of did to them what they did to us, right?
Like in Lexington.
In Lexington, they took the lead early, kind of kept that margin the whole game.
We made a run right at the end and then lost.
They did the same thing here, or Kentucky did the same thing here.
Took a lead relatively early, got up, stayed with it most of the game.
held on there at the end.
And we're going to talk a lot about a lot of different guys, a lot of different heroes.
But you're right.
Kentucky set the tone early that you're not going to push us around and you're not going to bully us like he did it Rupp.
And Ugo, he didn't score a point, but he was just as valuable as anybody by setting the tone early in that game by blocking those shots and say, hey, man, you're not going to do what you did to us or Rup.
Did you listen to the postgame show?
No.
Okay.
Because a guy said that and I was like, dude, come on.
Oh, did he really?
Yeah.
And I still disagree.
I mean, he was important, and he played well.
But that was a game.
That, that to me was the epitome of the game that shows like this is Reed and Antonio.
Yep.
Right?
Like Reed and Antonio are this team, in my opinion.
I mean, Justin Edwards played well, scored a bunch.
One of his better games.
Oh, no doubt.
Hugo played well.
Yeah.
Even Wagner had spells where he played well.
But this is Antonio and Reed's team.
I mean, it is.
Dillingham can win you stretches of games.
No, I mean, he can take a five-minute period and win you that stretch and win you that stretch and then win you the game.
But you will win a national championship or go to a final four based on Reed and Antonio,
which is not a sentence I thought I would say at the beginning of the year.
But they're the two best players.
When they play together, it changes everything.
When they play together, we become so hard to guard.
and when they're hitting shots and Reid was on fire, Antonio was shooting well, but not even as on fire as he can be.
But when they're hitting shots, you can't guard this team.
You cannot guard this team when they are hitting shots.
Because then, Dillingham, I mean, Edwards was in a situation when Dillingham was on the court, even when Wagner was on the court, that he was getting the worst defender out there.
And so he just decided to make four threes.
You know, they are unguarded when Reed and Reeves are shooting well because you cannot leave those guys.
Yep.
There was a play which was kind of floating around the internet, which showcased that.
Those guys are all on the court.
Reed switches off so they've got their worst defender on Reed.
In a normal matchup, they would go switch back, switch back for a guy like, but they can't because they can't leave the other guys on.
That's true.
You know?
Yeah.
So you end up with a situation where he just kind of waits, waits,
and then Dillingham draws a slight double team pass at Shepard 3.
Like you cannot lay off any of the guys because they'll crush you,
and I just, I find it so fun to watch.
I think Kyle Tucker said in the post game, I think he's right.
This is the most fun team Cal has had.
I think this is the most fun, just aesthetically fun team to watch since 03.
O3 was awesome.
There's no doubt about it.
Now, they're not the best.
There are three or four Cal teams better, at least three.
I'm going to see how this goes with the 2017 team.
I think they're going to compete for four.
Yeah.
10, 12, and 15 are better than this team.
But they're not more fun to watch.
True.
And so you've got to love it.
Because it's the way they win.
Like you said, this big shot after big shot, three after three.
Justin Edwards, you're right.
Poor guy.
He struggled most of the season.
But right now, teams are like, okay, we're going to try to lock up Reed Reeves,
Billingham.
That gives Edwards a chance to get a wide open look, and he's knocking them down.
That's what's so important now is knocking him down.
How do you score 85 against the top five team in the country?
And your five big men, because I'm going to count a do as a big man.
Yeah.
Oh, yeah.
Adieu, Mitchell, Z, Hugo, and Bradshaw collectively scores zero points.
Zero.
They didn't get a point from a big man, and they scored 85 and one.
Not one point, Shannon.
Zero, and they still won.
Well, when you shoot over 50% from threes, I think that's how you get to 85.
That's how you do it.
But that's, I mean, it's not necessarily how people like envision basketball always going,
but it sure is fun to watch.
And what's amazing about it to me, and this credit goes to Cal, like,
Cal deserves a lot of credit this year for adapting to what he has.
I have thought, even though I liked a lot of the players,
I've thought the basketball team the last three years was really boring to watch.
It was hard to watch sometimes.
They were hard.
Now, they'd have moments where they would roll.
Kansas, you know, Tennessee, we've talked about what they are.
But just as a whole, aesthetically, it was not a fun style of basketball to watch.
This team's the exact opposite.
Yeah.
It's like they flipped the switch and are playing completely differently.
Yeah, last couple of years we got to ground and pay.
hounding the end of Oscar about every time down the floor.
This team, I mean, Reed's pulling up on fast breaks and shooting threes with nobody into the basket.
It used to get you benched when you shoot a shot like that, but he's so confident and shooting so well right now.
Well, it's the NBA.
That's what you're doing the NBA now.
I mean, that's the NBA.
Like, people on fast break shoot threes.
Yeah.
That was crazy when I was playing or you were playing, but that's how they play now.
And Reed, I mean, Reed was amazing.
He was awesome.
Incredible.
What?
Antonio Reeves, by the way, has the same amount of point as Reed.
And Reed felt like he had twice as many points.
He did.
You know, like there's just something about how silent Antonio is.
But Reed was amazing.
Seven of ten threes.
Yep.
Got that block at the end.
That block was huge.
It was huge.
Just, I mean, he just, you know, he just controls the game.
And the team is better when he's the point guard.
They just are.
And it's, I mean, I can't believe.
how good he is. I can't believe how that good Antonio is. I can't believe how you're good those two
guys are. I mean, if you had told me at the beginning of the year, the team comes down to how
Antonio and Reed shoot. Well, it's not, but here's the thing. It doesn't even come down to that
because they're good at everything else now, you know? Like, it's not like there's, it's not,
no offense to him, but it's not like they're Kell and Grady, who if he's hitting, it's amazing,
but if he's not, what are you going to do? They can do anything. I feel so confident with the ball is in
their hands now. It's just like it's automatic. One of those two guys are going to score every
trip down the floor. I'm to the point now that if they're open, I'm like running to the other end
of the court. I think Antonio Reeves missed an open three Saturday. And I was like, Shannon, is he okay?
Did something like, did he did it? Is he hurt? Yeah. He even missed a couple little floaters that he
usually just nails it every time. And then he now Justin Edwards feels like he doesn't miss when he's
open. So happy for that kid, man. He played great. He had some really big shots. And like,
The thing is, when he's open now, he's knocking him down.
I mean, he had that open look that he'd been missing.
He's knocking him down.
So it was a great win.
It was.
Tennessee's crowd.
I mean, Tennessee was losing the whole game.
I mean, I think there was only like, they were up like four to three maybe and three to two and then like 11 to 10.
But that was it.
They were down the whole game.
And let's remember, Connect was amazing.
He was unbelievable.
Connect was only the fourth player since Pete Maravitch to score 40 against Connecticut.
time really or fifth player excuse me David Robinson yeah Chris Jackson yeah
Alston Turner from A&M A&M and then there's one more and I can't remember who the
other one was only four or five he's the he's the fifth he proved to me why he should be
SEC player of the year yeah he deserves he deserves he's a dirt is my I love Antonio he deserves
it I mean he can do he can just do a little bit more is this Ryan's new favorite Tennessee
Kentucky moment all he does
just talk about like like it was gross loft and now is it connect yeah i said on a pregame show i like
said it's the kai ziggler yeah you talked about on the pregame show shan he was like i really like
watching zikai ziegler last game he gets who are you what is it with you in tennessee like is it just
because you want us to hate indiana that you try to act like you like tennessee no i well zikai ziggers
the little guy i like him they play but you know he didn't hurt you and josiah james didn't hurt you
at the way they did it rup it could control both of those guys connect went off but the other two guys didn't
you at all. I think that's the way you play Tennessee. You got to make it to where the other guys
don't meet you. Because Kineck was tired at the end. Like you can, when you have 40, you can only do
so much, you know. Yeah, Barnes even took him out there, like, with about three minutes to go,
just give him a little breather. Kentucky put, like, three different guys. I mean, Reves and Edwards
basically would switch off every possession so that they always kind of had a fresh one.
Edwards played him the most, but it Breaves played him a little bit. And I thought that was good
to kind of keep throwing fresher guys at him.
There were times Edward had great defensive pressure on him.
And he still would score.
And he just still would score.
Yeah, there were times you couldn't really help.
There's nothing you can do about it.
You're right.
Early, especially Hugo had a lot of good blocks.
How about Reeves and Shepard leading the team in rebound?
Yeah.
They both had seven rebounds.
Cowell actually, in classic cow form, they both have 27 points.
And Tom Leach goes, what about the points by Shepard and Reeves?
And he goes, I cared more about their seven rebounds.
It's classic hymshadden.
Like whatever points you're making, he's got to be like, no.
What's important is this, and he would flip it.
But it is for those two guys to also lead the team of the rebrand.
Like you said, our big guys had zero points,
and if you told me before the game, they would have zero points,
and Reed and Reeves would be our lead to rebounder with seven.
I thought, well, they must just bullied us inside and just dominated inside.
It didn't happen.
That was not the case.
So it was a great win.
It was a great win.
And now you go in the SEC tournament as a two seed.
Yeah, which is huge.
Crazy.
I mean, we've just been hoping to get a buy.
Yeah.
I mean, poor South Carolina all year, one or two seed,
and then in the last day, fall to a five.
And what's interesting is, had we been just the two of us tied?
They would have got it.
They would have got it.
But because all four teams were tied,
on the four-team tiebreaker, they end up the worst,
and we end up the best.
Yeah, they went into the week with a legit shot to win the conference
championship and ended up now the fifth seed.
Fifth seed and an impossible path.
I mean, to win, they're going to have to beat Arkansas, Auburn, Tennessee, Kentucky,
or Alabama.
And our draw is, we could up.
I mean, you couldn't ask for a better draw.
You get either Texas A&M or Old Miss, then Alabama, which is not easy, but like Alabama
plays Florida, they could lose.
It's true.
I mean, they could lose that game.
Yep.
And then you get to the finals, and then you'll see one of those teams on the other side.
you've got Tennessee, Auburn, South Carolina all on the other side.
Got to be happy.
I mean, going into the game, I'd kind of reserve my mind.
Look, they're going to get the fifth seed.
We're going to plan on Thursday.
And now they'll get the double by to get the best path of any of those power teams is amazing.
And, Shannon, what a perfect day to give the Draft King's KSR boost.
I had people writing all day winning big money.
KSR partly misses by half a point.
Half a point.
Dillingham cost me some money.
First of all, I love Rob Dillingham, but when he missed that first free throw,
I'm not going to say there wasn't a cuss word.
I mean, if he makes those free throws, we're money, money.
At least we're even on that, you know.
Yeah, but we could.
We're a point and a half from three straight KSR parlous.
Yes.
But the 100% boosts some people, the biggest one I've seen is somebody took $10 into $1,400.
No kidding.
Yeah, that's the biggest one I've seen.
They hit like a nine piece.
I'm with you and Shannon.
I was very upset when Gillingham missed that free throw.
I'm glad we won the game, but it could have been even happier.
Yes.
So it was a great day.
It was an awesome win, man.
That was a great game to watch.
It was a really fun game to watch.
That was a good day of basketball.
The Duke Carolina thing we'll talk about later, but it was, listen, man, I was listening to Jeff Goodman,
Doug Gottlieb and Rob Doster.
That's the epitome of haters, right?
They're haters.
But they do know basketball.
And on Saturday nights, the three of them talk about what's happened.
And I was listening to them.
And they said, there's no more fun to team to watch in college basketball in five years than this Kentucky.
It's true.
They just are.
They're just fun.
And as God, he keeps saying, they got dudes.
Yeah.
They got dudes.
And when you got dudes, you got a chance.
And I think we have dudes for the first times in a while.
And that's exciting.
859-280-22.
We'll talk more about that game.
all the events of the weekend, including
I got a conspiracy theory
for Shannon. I want to hear what he thinks about.
We'll take a break, Gary back. Kentucky Sports Radio.
Welcome back.
It is Kentucky Sports Radio.
We got some folks on the phone. I'm going to get
to you throughout the show. I think Shannon
just will get these people on and then
we'll get calls later, okay?
I'll get these folks. But there's a lot of stuff I
want to get to, and I don't want to just make people
hold. All right, so let's go
through. Seas E.C. Tournament.
Yes. Right?
We play at seven.
It's going to be, this is the first SEC tournament in five years that I've had the
randoms tell me they're going to.
What I mean by that is there's a hardcore group that go to everything.
Sure.
Like Mani and Scotty, the Shimbari's, right?
Like they go to everything.
This is the one where I got people that are like, you know how Shannon, you have friends,
but then they're like kind of friends, you know, like.
Like they like.
Yeah, there are people I write the Christmas text too, right?
And if we haven't talked in the year since, I'm like, well, you're not getting a Christmas text again.
Those are the people going, hey, you're going to be down there?
You all doing the show Friday?
Yeah.
We want to get together?
Like, there's a lot of that now.
This is going to be big blue hitting Nashville, probably the like we have it since COVID.
You probably got to go back to the Tyler Hero year for a year we're going to hit Nashville.
like we hit this year.
And Kentucky plays at the perfect time.
Seven o'clock's perfect, perfect.
On Friday.
Seven on Friday is perfect.
The hardcore fans like us get to come down on Wednesday or Thursday.
The casuals can come down after work or after lunch on Friday.
And Friday.
And Friday, I would say to people, look, the Friday ticket is going to be a bajillion dollars.
And the Saturday ticket is, if Tennessee and Kentucky both make it on Saturday, forget it.
Like, forget it.
It's going to be nuts.
But being in the city, even if you don't have a ticket, will be fun.
I mean, my friends are coming and we don't have tickets this year.
They just are coming and they're going to go to Ten Roof on Friday
and the Draft King Sports Book on Thursday and Saturday.
And that's just going to be where they are because it's like you just want to be there.
Now, people are going to ask us like crazy.
So you can tell us.
The schedule is Friday we do the show at Ten Roof.
Friday morning at Ten Roof.
Friday morning at Ten Roof.
normal you need to get there early it'll be wild it should be awesome Thursday we're not doing the
show in public like we're doing I mean we may do it in public but we're not like doing it with a
crowd right and then post games and all that probably like we might be at tin roof or at draft
Kings but like it's not going to be blasted over the speakers got you know I do have to try to
produce a show that people want can listen to like the post game show in front of a crowd is in
possible because people you can't hear and i can't hear the callers and people are partying and
shannon's over there passed out on the couch and like it's just hard to get everything done
shannon's got a big show Thursday nights what sets up perfect yeah Shannon will be doing 10 we'll talk
more about that but shanin's doing 10 roof on Thursday yeah so but but anyway it's going to be it's
going to be a lot of fun i'm looking forward to let's go over some things Duke carolina
saturday yes philipowski was the trip intentional of course it was Shannon it was Shannon it was
Intentional?
I think it was.
He did get a little push off on the back by the player before the trip.
So I think maybe that instigated it a little bit.
Okay, so you think he pushed and then tripped?
Like retaliation.
Yes.
What do you think?
Intentional.
Yeah.
Not like egregious, not like Grayson Allen used to do, but definitely intentional.
I think so too.
Now, what about the student section?
Throwing stuff.
Yeah.
What a video.
First, Shannon, the UNC players come over in front of the crazies and talk.
Yeah.
Fair or foul?
I'm going to do all these, fair or foul?
Absolutely fair.
All right?
You earned it.
You can do that.
You can talk that trash to the fans.
They've been giving it to you the entire game.
You can give them to them back at the end when you were.
I agree, Shannon.
What about you, Ryan?
I think if you do it, you've got to do it in mass like they did, but you've got to be ready for retaliation.
You know, you've got to be, you're going here in enemy territory.
No, no, wait a minute.
I think you can be ready for people doing to you what you're doing.
doing to them, which is yelling at. Yeah.
That doesn't mean you can throw things.
No, that's over the top.
So that's definitely foul.
Definitely foul. Foul, Shannon?
Should they get in trouble if they're able
to like by video show who threw something?
Yes. Yeah.
You know, that's understood.
The minute you walk in the door, you don't throw stuff on the court.
Shannon, right, so if you throw a bottle, we agree you're in trouble.
Yeah.
What if you throw liquid?
If you throw anything onto the floor, that's way worse.
If you just take a water bottle and throw it.
You don't throw the bottle, but the liquid comes out.
You get in trouble?
Yeah, you can't do that.
I don't think you can do it either.
I think you've got to give them in trouble.
I don't know what the punishment is, but you've got to do something.
Gas chamber.
This is killed them.
Wow.
That's a little harsh.
I think that.
That's Jay Billis.
Jay Willis would definitely do that.
You can't throw anything on the court, period, regardless what it is.
All right, I agree with that.
Now, John Shire came over to the student section and apologized for losing.
while all that was going on.
He was on the other side going, I'm sorry we lost.
I'm sorry we lost.
Fair foul shit.
I don't want to hear you apologizing.
It's too late, dude.
Your team lost.
That looks pathetic if you go over there and apologize to the fans.
No.
Personally apologize.
No, that's weak.
You don't owe anybody an apology.
I'm kind of with Shannon.
I want my coach to be mad that he just lost his rival on his home floor.
I don't want him to be a little wimpy.
I'm sorry, guys.
I'll never do it again.
Please forgive me.
Don't be mad at me.
What are you doing?
Yeah, what are you doing?
Okay, so let me, I'm going to take up for him a little bit.
Okay.
I think it is kind of weak to walk up to the students and go, I'm sorry, seconds after the game.
But like in the post-game press conference, if he had said, hey, to the fans,
I'm sorry we couldn't get this win for you on senior day.
That's different.
That's different to you.
To me, it's different, yes.
To do it on the court in front of everybody, I want my coach mad when he's walking off the court.
Let him go calm down.
Then if he wants to say, hey, man.
Sorry to the fans, but this will never happen again.
Yeah, that's, I feel like there's a difference for some reason from the press conference
than walking up and personally asking the student section for forgiveness.
I'm with you.
All right.
So we got all that.
Women's game, South Carolina and LSU yesterday.
Did you see that one?
Well, I saw the fight.
Okay, so first of all, two things.
Do you see the final play?
No.
Shannon, did you see the final play?
No, we can look at all this.
No, I'm sorry.
Wait a minute.
That was in the semifference.
finals. The South Carolina Tennessee final play.
Okay. Did you see that? Didn't see it.
South Carolina's down two. Two seconds left.
They run a play in the center for South Carolina. The girl that ends up pushing the girl the next day.
She's wide open at the top of the game. You got to see the play. You two stop during the break.
You watch the play. All right, because I want you to see and tell me if it's the worst defense you've ever seen.
You can watch it during the break. The fight.
What about the dude coming out of the stand? Shed.
I mean he said he's the player that got pushed brother correct but you still can't come out of the stands no what are you doing
that's that's way worse than throwing something on the onto the floor going out and he looked like he like was going to fight one of
yeah that's what makes this so egregious is he jumped over the scores table to fight he's a brother i'm sure he's upset but you can't
you're going to fight in the middle of a game against some women men the police officer jumped over immediately he was
happened to be right there and got him.
Do you arrest the guy, even though it's his sister?
I think he do.
Do you arrest the guy?
He didn't throw a punch.
Do you arrest a guy if it's his sister?
What if it's his mother?
What if her mother rushes on the court?
Do you arrest her mother in a situation like that for running on the court?
I hope you get that bell money ready for mama because she's going to jail.
So you would take mama to jail?
Would you take mama to jail?
I think you hit her with a misdemeanor.
You don't take her to jail.
No, little girl, pushed over by big girl.
Mom comes on the court.
You're sending mom to jail.
No, misdemeanor.
Shaden's sending her to jail.
Jail.
We'll be right back.
T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney.
Call T.J. He'll make them pay.
Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Here's Matt Jones.
Shannon out here sending people's moms to jail.
Well, stay off the floor, Mom.
Your time is best.
A, 59, 280, 27.
Text machine, a lot of people writing in on Shannon, 772.
7-7-4-5-254.
One person writes, Matt, was that the same guy that punched Ryan at South Carolina?
I didn't think about that.
No, wasn't him.
One person writes, why don't you give him the benefit of the doubt?
Maybe he was trying to break up the fight.
But he went to the girl that...
Yeah.
Like, it's not like he went to his...
So of all the people in the arena, you're the guy who's going to break up the fight.
Yeah, I mean, you can't just have people decide they get to be the people that break up the fight.
I mean, I love the fact he wants to stand up for his little sister,
but you can't jump on the score of table.
So I just want to be clear.
You're sending the brother like to jail or you just like make it in a ticket?
Like what do you do?
Or just escort him out?
I'm escorting him out.
I'm maybe thinking misdemeanor.
I'm not sending him to jail.
Well, I mean, you can be sent to jail for a misdemeanor.
I don't think I would send him to jail for that.
If he'd throw a punch or something, yeah, he's obviously got to go to jail.
So you are punishing him.
Yes.
Okay.
And Shannon.
Mug shots, fingerprints, jail time.
All right, so you're doing the same for mom.
Yeah.
Are you even kicking mom out?
Yeah, you got to kick mom out.
You can't be doing that.
I've seen people get kicked out for a lot less than that.
So, yeah, you've got to go.
All right.
Now, the girl that pushed them.
Uh-huh.
Okay, the girl that comes over and push it.
Yes.
Should she be suspended for a game of the NCAA tournament?
Whatever the rule is, if you get ejected, you have to be.
I don't think so.
Because both teams got, like, at the end of the game, they had ejected everybody.
So I don't think they're going to do that.
What would you eject her?
Yeah, I would.
You'd make her sit out a game?
I will.
What about the two people that pushed initially?
Because originally the first two girls go at it.
And then she comes over and like.
See, that's what I didn't understand if everybody who gets ejected normally has to sit out another game.
It can't be the rule this time because there will be no one left.
Yeah, they're not out the next team.
They're not going to throw out the whole, both teams.
Did they call the girl?
with the flagrant two, like flagrant one?
I think they did.
Well, then she has to sit out the next game, right?
I don't know.
What would you do?
I don't know the rules.
I'm just asking you, what would you do?
I think she has to sit out the next game.
You would sit her down.
Okay, now you see the Tennessee game.
And it's her.
It's her.
Yeah.
What were they doing?
I just saw the story.
She had not hit a three-pointer in her career.
Okay, but still.
They just let her go.
You can't just, Shannon, she can't be wide.
open.
You know?
Her defender did not leave the lane.
I mean, that's a question.
Okay, so you're playing Kentucky.
You're down two.
Ugo, are you going to let Nugo shoot wide open to win the game?
That's a great analogy.
It'd be like Ugo stepping out.
Sheen, you're another team.
Yeah.
You're playing Kentucky in the SEC tournament.
Two seconds left.
Let's say you're doubling Reeves.
Yeah.
You're guarding everybody else one-on-one.
Are you letting Ugo shoot?
wide open for three to win.
Man, probably not, but you've got to at least, I don't know.
Don't you got to at least act like you're going to guard them?
Yeah, yeah.
This is a good scenario as Kentucky.
The other four guys can all score.
So you've got to keep the ball out of their hands.
If you're going to give up one shot, who goes to one?
But you've got to come out of the lane a little bit.
That girl, the girl didn't even come out of the lane.
She didn't even move.
No, just there with their hands up.
Yeah, hands up for what?
Like, like, I mean, there was no one.
I don't know.
I don't know if you can let Hugo shoot completely open.
If you're the Tennessee coach, that's brutal, though.
Yeah, it's brutal loss.
She probably would say if you could have anyone shoot that shot.
She's the one.
She's the one.
And she banked it in.
It wasn't even like that.
Hadn't hit a three in her entire career.
Yeah, we'll let her shoot that shot.
We're going to block up everybody else.
Yeah.
So quite a
South Carolina
was quite two amazing days.
All right, who's up first?
Ethan.
Ethan, go ahead, Ethan.
Hey, Matt, first time, long time.
Who are?
What's up?
So I was sitting here thinking
about all the past coaches
and their best players.
However,
build your best team
based on one player
or coach.
So here's mine.
It feels like an all.
off-season question, but go ahead.
I understand, but, like, I have nothing else to add to the...
Oh, well, quickly.
What's your phone?
What are you ones?
All right.
Adolf Pro up, Cliff Hagan.
Joby Hall, Given.
Eddie Sutton, Walker, Petino, Mashburn, Tubby.
Yeah, but you're getting seven guys there.
That's too many people, and you're just picking the best players.
I mean, you're just picking the best players.
That's, I would say for trying to.
I am not, I am not.
I am not picking best players because.
But you just took seven players.
You just took seven players.
Yeah, I need seven players to play an entire full game.
And for Gillespie, it's either Meek or Ramele Bradley.
Yeah, okay.
Do I take the three-point shooting or do I take the?
Yeah, you take Meeks.
In today's basketball, I appreciate to call you.
have to have meek so you're definitely going to take davis for kentucky right yeah because there's
no big like him true you're going to take meeks you're going to take i like mashburn yeah is a call
i'm probably taking bogans or prince tachshan i think got for tubby so you get tachshan mashburn
those are your forwards but they can shoot you're going to take davis at center you're going to take
meeks so then i'm going to take a guard from uh i guess eddie sutton so i'm going to take recs
So I'm going to take, make Rex play point.
I'm going to take Rex Meeks, Marsh, Prince, Mashburn, and say, bring it on.
That's a fun team.
There's no doubt.
That's a fun team to have to throw out there.
Yeah, I think that team's probably going to win.
It was not right.
If you get to Joe B, then you get a lot more options at guard.
But go ahead.
It reminded me when you had John Wall on the other day, and you guys talked about if Jody Meeks was on his first team.
It was interesting.
He said that.
Yes, it was.
That was the one.
And you could tell it like it heard it like, oh, man, yeah.
If we had Jody Meeks, man, nobody's going to beat us.
Would you like to play Tennessee again?
Like a tiebreaker at the SEC tournament?
If I have my choices, I would say that's the one team I don't want to play.
Okay.
To be honest.
The exciting game, though.
It would be a great game.
Kentucky and Tennessee in Nashville.
Yeah.
That would be exciting.
But the fact that Alabama's on our side, Alabama's just been a different team since Kentucky beat them.
Should have lost Saturday.
Should have lost Saturday.
Should have lost Arkansas.
They got very, very fortunate.
Down six with 45 seconds to go and ended up getting overtime and winning.
So give me the draw that Kentucky got, give me that all day.
Can I tell you something?
Actually, I want to talk about Comic Con in a minute.
But, Shannon, you know, you were listening to Pregame where I said Lisa Marie Presley was signing
and you said she's dead.
Right.
That's going to be hard to do.
That would be a heck of a get.
So when it was over, I went to where people were signing.
Yeah.
You know the two longest lines.
The Dupin Scherzzi?
No, Priscilla Presley and Barbara Eden.
Barbara Eden, Shannon was charging $125.
She is 92 years old, and there were 300 people at least in life.
Wow.
Really?
That's why she's doing it.
At that age, to be able to be able to.
$125.
Wow.
300 people.
So first of all, you're talking like $37,000 or something like that.
Wow.
It's pretty good for a day, right?
For Jeannie.
I dream of Jeannie.
I mean, can you believe that?
No.
92 years old.
And there were probably 40 people dressed up as Jeannie.
No, there weren't.
Yeah, of women of all ages from probably 50 to 6.
See, if you would ask me, I would have guessed most people were probably 50 or over in that line.
There's not going to be a lot of 50 and older or people that wear that outfit.
But, like, there were little girls.
There weren't a lot of, like, 20 to 30-year-olds.
but there were a lot of mothers and a lot of little girls.
Wow.
No kidding.
So anyway, it was fast.
That culture is fascinating.
Who's next?
Let's go to Connor.
Connor.
Connor.
What's up, Matt?
First time caller.
Who are?
You know, since 2011, when we won, only three NCAA champs have won their conference
tournament.
Do you buy into the idea that you'd feel better about our chances in the big tournament if we lost?
I mean, I think that's just, I think that's just most of the teams that win a title.
are playing in a good conference
and when you're playing in a good conference,
you can lose.
So, I mean, no.
I think we make way too grand
of pronouncements about who wins the title
rather than sort of looking at a bigger pattern.
I don't think, no.
I think what is interesting, though,
is if you look over the years of the amount of teams
that have won a title that make the championship game,
like if you look at Kentucky,
we win titles or go to Final Four,
when we go to the SEC
We don't always win the SEC
championship game, but we go to it, right?
Like going to the SEC
championship game has been a pretty
good indicator for our teams
about how good we are.
Forget about the other teams.
Now, we've lost some of those games,
but we've gone
pretty much every year we're good.
We end up in that championship game,
whether we win or lose.
Yeah, 96 and 12, we lose the SEC championship game.
But we made it.
But we made it.
97, we won't.
98 we won, 2010 we won, 2011 lost in the finals, 2012 won, or no, we won in 2011.
2011 we win, 2012 we land, 14 we losing the finals, 15 we win, 17 we win, 19 we losing the finals.
Like, that's kind of been our thing.
It makes a difference.
That's why it has heard a lot of fans that they've not even made it to the weekend games last several years.
I do think that that is a good indicator for us.
Now, for the other teams, you know, I do think it matters how you're playing at the end of the year.
If you look at the teams that have won that have not been one or two seats, they've all been hot at the end of the year.
Yukon last year, you con in 2014, you caught in 2011.
Like, I do think how you're playing going into the tournament, especially if you're a three-seater lower, means a lot.
Like, Alabama, I ain't picking them in the tournament.
No.
They're not playing well.
playing well.
So I think.
I tell you who else is playing with
Houston.
That, their game is going to be on before.
Yeah, they're playing really, really well.
I think those, if I'm looking at three seeds that are on a row and we're one of those
teams.
Oh, yeah.
Right?
Like, we're that team.
If you're always on the go, running, hitting the gym, practicing yoga, playing tennis,
you know, not, don't just taunt the pickleballers.
Get yourself without pain.
And it's court physical therapy.
They'll help you make sure pain doesn't slow you down.

97 we have some breaking news shit okay runny na nah nana uh uk uk women's coach kair lze has been
fired as the coach the university of kentucky uh been here
about four full years.
Had to do it, right?
It's just like we said before.
It's an unfortunate part of the coaching world, man.
If you can't win games, you're going to get replaced.
And I think she was four and 12 in the SEC this year,
struggled with the last couple years.
Made that great run two years ago to win the SEC tournament.
It may have saved her job then.
Yeah.
Yeah, I mean, you got to do it.
I don't know that there was, I think this year just went the way it did.
A lot of bad stuff.
piled on. I think they
didn't have choice. So, so, you know, we
haven't had a major coaching search here.
And I'm not, and the women's basketball search
won't be quite as high profile as a
football or basketball coach.
But I was thinking about this. They haven't
had a men's basketball,
men's football, women's basketball
coach search in over a decade.
That's right. Because the Matthew Mitchell thing
just transitioned into it. Uh-huh.
So we haven't had a coaching search, like a real
one here in forever.
We haven't even baseball. How long
Menge O'm in here.
Been here for several years, yep.
Like, we don't do coaching searches here.
I was thinking, but we haven't had a coaching search since the bar open.
Yeah, we talked about it.
Not that there would be anything you could do at the bar to search for coaches, Shannon.
But, I mean, I know.
I mean, they eat too.
Yeah, they too.
See who's in here?
See who they bring in for an interview.
Mike Brable comes in.
But, yeah, we've said before Kentucky has a longest tenured men's basketball coach,
football coach, and athletic director in the entire SEC.
So we'll see what they end up deciding to do with that.
but Kyra Elsie's tenure at UK is over.
Disappointing, but also I think unfortunately, you know, understandable.
All right, a couple more things.
Indiana State.
Yeah.
Indiana State doesn't make it.
I watched the game.
Drake has a dude that doesn't miss, by the way.
I don't know what his name is, but his name is doesn't miss because he doesn't miss.
They're in.
In the new Bracketology, Indiana State is in as a at large.
Okay.
They have the exact same profile record, etc.
That Loyola did the year they made the final four, and they were an at-large.
Okay.
So hopefully they get in.
I mean, to me, Shannon, you'd rather see Cream Abdul-Jabbar than like a 14-lost Villanova team.
Oh, yeah, definitely, definitely.
But what if it comes down to Loyola Chicago and Indiana State?
Well, Loyola Chicago's out.
They're not good enough.
Like they're...
They've got a good record.
Do they?
Yeah, they're like 21 and 8.
You're right.
You're like 21 and 8.
Yeah, I don't know.
I'm not sure.
But I think it's probably more going to come down to, like, Mississippi State or Indiana State.
What if it was like...
Yeah, me too.
Wouldn't you rather see Indiana State?
Like...
And not only are they good, it's just because Robbie Avala, everybody wants to see him.
His name is Cream Abduljabal.
And he played pretty, he played pretty well yesterday.
He's a good player.
But the Drake guys.
Drake's good, too.
Yeah, they are.
I don't want to play them.
I don't know who they are in, who they're going to be matched up with, but you don't want to play them.
They're good.
They score a lot of points, right?
Yeah, they shoot well.
They got a big who can play.
Like, they're not little.
Like, they're good.
But you got to, I'm with you, Shannon.
Got to have Indiana stadium.
Speaking of Drake, had the Drake concert last night.
Yes.
My yard, Shannon, was filled with drunk people walking home last night.
I don't think, you know, after UK.
games you don't get that thing but there were just people every i i walked outside like 1130 and i
was like what is happening i saw paul you know bingles paul yeah bingles paul just staggering down the
street had a boy acted like it was normal just to see me standing in the road you know he just was
like hey matt and then he just kept walking it's a regular sunday night for him yeah it's just a regular
sunday night matt's just standing on the side of the road um but people everywhere drake uh brings
him on stage.
Yeah.
Lil Dirk brings DJ Wagner and Kareem Watkins on stage.
Nice.
Drake poses with Cal backstage.
Yeah.
He recreated his famous sitting in the team room shot, and he said, where did everybody go?
Which I thought was really funny.
So is Kentucky back as a cool school again?
Yeah.
You think so?
Because of him and because of the way they play and, you know, hanging out at his house this
summer?
Yeah, I think so.
Did you see Jake's jet sitting at Bluegrass Airport, Shannon, that I tweeted out?
I did.
How many people have a private 767?
You think of the smaller private jets?
That's a massive jet.
767, Shannon, private jet.
Just hanging out.
Me and my boys on a 767 from Toronto.
You know, our boy, Billy got free tickets at the last minute last night or something.
How's Billy getting tickets?
Yeah.
I already said I appreciate
He's learned to work the system, you know.
I would
Although to be fair, I wouldn't have gone either way.
Just a lot.
Like I don't know.
You could have walked there.
You think?
I could have almost had someone carrying me into the place.
I'm close enough.
I could have gotten on Paul's shoulders and let him take him.
But I don't know who Lil Durk is.
I mean, I've heard of him, but wouldn't know a little dirk song if you sang it.
Me neither.
I've heard of Jay Cole.
I have a pair of Jay Cole.
shoes. Don't know
one of his songs. He neither.
I know some Drake, but
I think a little Drake's enough Drake for me.
But I do like Drake because I interviewed
him in 2009
at Big Blue Madness. That's that picture right there.
Yeah. Oh, there it is. That is that picture
right there. And I didn't know who he was.
Like, well, everybody. In that picture right there,
I do not know who he is. They just, I saw
like everybody's freaking out.
And they're interviewing him, and I was like, well, I'll interview him.
It sounds like you still only barely know who he is.
No, I mean, I know who he is now.
Like, he was, like, he was, like, he had been on that de Grosse show.
And he had a, he had something, but like, I didn't know.
He hadn't blown up.
He blew up like that year.
Yeah.
Like all the players knew who he was.
Yeah.
And the students knew who he was.
But, like, here, I'm going to take a picture of the picture.
Steve Moss right there beside you.
Yeah, all the celebrities are in here.
But I didn't know who he was.
But still very cool that we got that yesterday, right?
It is cool.
And it's cool that he's getting his picture with Kyle and bringing Dillingham up on the stage.
You know, that just makes us a cool school again when you get somebody like that to do it.
So Dilling him on stage.
On stage.
That's pretty good.
Dilly, Dilly.
Who's next?
Quickly, let's go to Vince.
Vince, you got about 30 seconds.
Matt, I called you after the Bama game and said me and my friends reversed the curse by watching the Wisconsin 2015 game.
going to stay true to your word.
You said if we beat Tennessee, you would watch it.
I did say that.
All right, I'll watch it before the tournament, okay?
The NCAA tournament.
I appreciate the call.
I don't want to, though.
I don't either.
I haven't watched it since it happened.
We'll take a break.
Come back.
Hour number two.
K.S. Bar is open.
