Welcome to Hour 2 of Kentucky Sports Radio, presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Starting point is 00:02:47 Now, here's Matt Jones. Welcome back. Hour number two, Kentucky Sports Radio here at KS. Bar and Grill. Got a couple here who are here early on a Monday morning. Where are you folks from? Louisville? That's all right. Listen, I live there too. It's all right.
Starting point is 00:03:01 You don't have to seem ashamed of it. You know, you're like, look down like Louisville. It's all right. They're not even worth being upset about that. You know what I mean? They stink so bad. To me, they're the best Kentucky fan. They have to fight the good fight every day.
Starting point is 00:03:15 Next Monday is Kenny on the staff. It's getting it. It's getting to seem like he's gone. First of all, Carter Knox commits to Kentucky. It's worth noting. We got a top 20 recruit this weekend. Did it like during my post game show. and he was the guy Kenny Payne was using to basically be like,
Starting point is 00:03:32 I'm still good. Like, I'm going to bring in Carter Knox. Maybe not. Nope. Kevin Knox's little brother would. He wasn't a Kentucky lean for a long time, was he? No, I mean, he was, then he wasn't, then he was. But I don't think people expected it to happen yesterday.
Starting point is 00:03:48 I didn't think so either. Kind of came out of nowhere. He got Kevin Knox's brother. Yep. That's exciting. Got another good recruiting class. Next year's recruiting class has a lot of, a lot of really good guys, not a lot of like top, top in talent, which is why it'd be nice to have one or two of these dudes come back.
Starting point is 00:04:06 Yeah. Because then I think you could be really, really good. I think they're missing a superstar unless they get somebody back. Now, obviously, if you brought Reed Shepherd and Aaron Bradshaw back with those guys, then you're rolling. Yeah. You know. What are you laughing at? You don't want people to do you want to tease people?
Starting point is 00:04:27 I just don't, like I said, I've got it by mind. He can't. Can't expect any of them to come back. I agree with you, but we can just act like it to be excited, right? All right, let's go over a couple things. First of all, speaking of, you know, Kyrie Elsie got let go. Did you see what happened with the Utah State women's coach? You were teasing me with this.
Starting point is 00:04:46 I've not seen this yet. This is not how you, this, listen, I like awkward things sometimes, but then they're so awkward that you're like, oh no. So Utah State loses in the conference tournament. The woman does her post-game press conference. Here's how it goes. And how do you plan to rebuild for next season? I'm not going to be rebuilding.
Starting point is 00:05:10 I just coached my last game at Utah State. I spoke with Diana, and they're going in a different direction, and I respect her decision, and I hope they get a really good coach in. I'm assuming that's going to be the last question. And that's it. That's it. She just walks off. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:29 I mean, she goes, I'm not going to be rebuilding. I am no longer the coach I've been fired Wow I've not heard it handled like that before I mean how awesome of her to do that after being fired though right yeah
Starting point is 00:05:43 I mean if I got if I feel like that was pretty rude though of the athletic director like couldn't he wait till after the press conference wait until they get beat wait until they lose and are done like because you know first of all you're that reporter you're like oh yeah sorry yo what's he going to say man what's you going to do
Starting point is 00:06:00 you just told me I'm interviewing you after a game and you're telling me you just got fired. So that was weird, Janet, don't you think? Wrong question to ask. I applaud her for doing the press. Well, he didn't know. I don't blame the person who asked the question.
Starting point is 00:06:13 They don't know. I applaud her for doing the press conference after being fired. I mean, she's just doing it for charity at that point. I applaud her for coaching the game. If she knew she was already fired, she... No, I think she had to have been fired from, like... You think she got fired before the game? No, no, no, no, no.
Starting point is 00:06:31 I don't know. I think she got fired between the end of the game and the press conference, like in those 20 minutes. Oh, my. Yeah. I mean, that's how it had to be, didn't it, Shannon? Yeah, yeah. I mean, yeah, that's horrible for them to fire her in that situation before she does the presser. And then for her to come out and do it, though.
Starting point is 00:06:48 Like, if you hit fire fires me right now, I am not staying for the rest of the show. You're not finishing the show. I don't. I don't disagree with you. That's why you got to let him finish the show before you fire. So does she get to ride home on the team bus? No. They left her at the tournament.
Starting point is 00:07:02 She had an Uber home. Well, they did that with Lane Kiffin, remember. That's right. They left him wherever they were. It sure did. So that was awkward. What about Myron Metcalf's tweet? Myrne Metcalfe tweets out that Reed Shepard is the most Duke-like player Cal ever had.
Starting point is 00:07:19 People did not like him. No, he got a lot of heat. He said it was one of his most responded to tweets ever, and I didn't help when I just retweeted and said, shut up, Myron. We all like Myron. He's your co-host. We've all met him. We really like Myron.
Starting point is 00:07:33 But I wanted to yell at him when he put me in and saw that tweet. People didn't like it. Yeah. They didn't like it at all. Good. Yes. But I know what he meant. Like he means like, you know, he means that Reed is like these really good dudes,
Starting point is 00:07:49 Dukes had that if he wasn't on your team would annoy you. Like, Grace and Allen and JJ Redick and all that. Like, that's what he, I know that's what he means. I don't think Reed annoys people. He's just good. He doesn't annoy us, but if he was playing against you and he just pulled up and hit threes in your face, you don't think you'd be annoyed by? I didn't get annoyed by Dalton Connect, and he was pulling up hitting threes. I did. I hated Dalton Connect.
Starting point is 00:08:13 Didn't you, Shannon? I was like, get out of here, Dalton Connect. Yeah, I hate to say it, being a Tennessee player, but he was kind of awesome, though. He was great, but I still hate you. Yeah. Don't love him. I'm doing well. I'm trying to take up for Byron.
Starting point is 00:08:27 When I said shut up Byron, I was like half kidding. didn't know the world was going to come at him. He had, he had like 600 responses to the original tweet, and it was just people going, Myron, you suck. You just can't. You just can't do that. That's, that's crossing the line, Myron. We like you, but that crossed the line.
Starting point is 00:08:45 All right. Now, before we go, the phones, the Oscars were last night. Did you watch it? Not a second of it. Did you watch it, Chad? Saw the highlights. Okay, so. Meaning John Cena.
Starting point is 00:08:56 Yeah, probably the biggest stories are Oppenheimer wins best picture and wins. most of the awards. Yeah. Did any of you see that? Not yet. I haven't seen it yet. I'm going to watch it. I am too.
Starting point is 00:09:05 It's just I feel like when I see a three and a half hour movie, I'm like, I got to like, it's going to be a whole day. Yeah, that's when you're sick, stuck at home watching kind of movie. So I'm thinking like April or May, when we don't have games on a Saturday, I'll just put in the investment. Yeah. I do think I'll watch it. Do you think you'll ever watch it?
Starting point is 00:09:21 Yeah, I do. Do you think you'll ever watch it, Chan? No, I struggle to get through two hour movies, let alone three and a half. But what's crazy is you'll watch. I say this to you all the time. You'll watch a series. Why don't you just turn the movie into a series? Just act like there's four episodes.
Starting point is 00:09:36 Yeah. I would have to do it that way. I couldn't watch it in one sitting. Yeah, just go like, all right, 45 minutes, 45 minutes, 45 minutes, and then you got it. I'll watch it. Yoga Girl wants to watch it, so I know we'll eventually watch it. The woman from that movie, I like the holdovers. She won, you know, the Paul Giammati.
Starting point is 00:09:53 That's a really good movie. I really recommend that. That's a really good movie. I did. All right. So then they had the gossling guy. He got up and sang the Ken song. With Slash.
Starting point is 00:10:06 With Slash from Guns and Roads. I bet Slash from Guns and Rose is never thought he'd be in a Barbie movie song. You want to talk about how you know you've gotten old when Slash is in a Barbie movie? So he got up and sang and people said he was good. I didn't see that. But I think for me, the story is John Sino walked out there naked. He walked on stage naked. Naked.
Starting point is 00:10:26 With a box. It was best costume, and his costume was he just walked out there with a box over his area, completely naked. And the joke was like, this is what happens without costume people, which I guess is a good joke, but then you still have to stand out there naked. Like, that's the kind of joke, Shannon, you make, and you hope they cut away. Well, if I had a body like that, I wouldn't be afraid to go out there on stage. Well, okay, that's a good question. If you had that body, would you be okay walking out in front of the world naked? I would never buy clothes.
Starting point is 00:10:56 I would just walk around like a caveman. Just a caveman walking around. Just always walk around naked. I just can't imagine. I mean, that's next to the Super Bowl. Well, first of all, it's the most watch broadcast in America next to Super Bowl. Yeah. And then it might be next to like the World Cup, the most watch broadcast in the world.
Starting point is 00:11:15 Can you imagine being like, I have to walk out there with this box on? And it wasn't even a box. He was holding up something. Like if he forget. to keep his hand up, Shannon. Yeah. Well, oops. Wardrobe malfunctioned.
Starting point is 00:11:32 Hopefully it's not cold. I just, I mean, I couldn't believe he did it. Like, kudos to him, but I don't care how you good you look. At some point, like, you're taking a risk there to do that, right? Yeah. Normally he wrestles in his jorts. So, you know, some people are saying, well, he's worn less than that in the wrestling ring. Well, no, not entirely.
Starting point is 00:11:52 No one's worn less than that. Yeah. So that was odd. He's been on one here lately with that new show and his only fans. I noticed he got his bald spot taken care of. You know, no, I agree. I'm impressed with people. He and Bill Self now, I think, are one-two on the list.
Starting point is 00:12:11 So good for him. Who's up next? Dennis. Dennis. How are you, Dennis? Hey, how's everybody today? Doing good. I'm surprised nobody didn't shoot a rubber band.
Starting point is 00:12:21 He'd seen it in the butt last night. I don't know what that means, but all right. But I got a question now that Kyraelsie's gone, I'm going to throw a name out there. What about the coach of Transylvania? See, I like, okay, so I know they won't hire her, and I appreciate the call. But why wouldn't you consider the woman from Transylvania? She won a title. They're undefeated.
Starting point is 00:12:43 They went up to Wisconsin, cheating NCAA. Come out, Shannon, and then they still won, even with the NCAA trying to cheat them. Right. We watched the game, like, during the post-game show. had it on right before and during the postgame show. They won the game. It was exciting. Like, why wouldn't you do that?
Starting point is 00:13:02 Kyra Elsie had no head coaching experience, and they took a chance with her. But that didn't work. That's not a good explanation as to what. Well, first of all, she has coaching experience. Not head coaching experience. That was her first head coaching job. I'm talking about the trancy. That's what I'm saying.
Starting point is 00:13:15 The trancy girl has done. Woman. Woman has done extremely, extremely well. Gail. Yeah, come on, man. I mean, she's in her 40s, like 50s. Like, woman. Go ahead.
Starting point is 00:13:25 They've won 64 in a row, divinity national champs, and in the final four again. And she has head coaching experience. Why wouldn't you take a chance on her then? You would. I mean, like, okay, if it was Kentucky men's basketball, I don't think you would hire a division three coach with no division one experience. No. But for the women's team, I say give it a shot. Why not?
Starting point is 00:13:48 You know she can coach. You know the question's about recruiting and all that stuff. That's different. And who knows? Maybe you go find an elite recruiter, an elite NIL person with it. But for coaching, you know she can do it. She's doing something right. So I think you at least think about it.
Starting point is 00:14:06 Yes. I can be talked into somebody else if there's a reason why, like you pick them, like some great person who's had a lot of success wants it, but why not? Now, Transy wins the weekend. Yes. They're going to play NYU Saturday. A lot of people usually come down to Trancie. NYU where they go to college, right?
Starting point is 00:14:26 Like, Shannon? Yes. Like a trancy in NYU. I just find that absolutely hilarious that that's who's playing. Trancy and NYU, it is Thursday night. So, you know, between me and you, Shannon, I'm a little bit bitter. Like, you know, I set up last year this whole idea of doing trancy watch party. Yes.
Starting point is 00:14:47 And we did one here. Yes. And it was awesome. And this year they just decided they were going to do their own at a different bar. Just cut me out of it. know it was my idea to do it the first time. With that, that's not, you don't treat an alum like that, Shamed. That's true.
Starting point is 00:14:58 You at least check in with me. Digit dirty. Yeah, I didn't like that. But nevertheless, I'm not going to hold it against the pows, and we're going to pull for them Thursday night when they play NYU. And that's kind of the championship. If you look on the other side, the brackets have fallen apart. And like the two, the team in the finals won't be as good as trancey or NYU.
Starting point is 00:15:20 So the semifinals may be the big thing. the two best teams in the tournament will play each other in the semi-funt. Tough draw. They had to win up there in Wisconsin against that team. Now you got NYU, the other good team in the country. I feel like NYU is too big to be in Division III, right? NYU, like that's New York University. It's one of the best schools in the country.
Starting point is 00:15:42 How are they in Division III? I don't know. It's one of the top ten universities in America. Does it go by enrollment? They don't give football. They don't give football, they don't give sports scholarships. That's really all it is. They just don't give sports.
Starting point is 00:15:56 But that feels like they probably got 10 times as many people. What do you think the enrollment is? Well, I mean, look it up, Shannon. What's the enrollment of NYU? I mean, Trancy's enrollment is probably 1,200, maybe. I mean, it was 1,000 when I went there. I think they have more people now. But 1,400 at the most, you know,
Starting point is 00:16:14 YSU has got to be what, 10, 12,000, at least? I would think that it would come up immediately, but no, it doesn't. They don't have that on the internet? I mean, they do, but you got to click into it. I thought that would be something that would just pop up. There it is, 29,000. See, I mean, my U.S. 29,000 people in Transylvania, what? Look at 1,300, 1,300.
Starting point is 00:16:35 That's not fair. If 29,000 people. Wow. So, tell me about Stockton mortgage. Spring buying season is hot and heavy right now, so you want to be pre-approved before you go out and start looking at houses. A guy called me this weekend, wanted to go out and look at houses. I said, are you pre-approved? He does. Not yet.
Starting point is 00:16:52 Call Stockton. I wanted to go. Yeah, well, I'll talk about that during the break. Yeah, I wanted to go see a house. I know. Matthew and Harper wanted to go see a house this weekend. 1100. $1,000 to $1,100, just for the record.
Starting point is 00:17:03 That's insane. And most of those 1100 are probably athletes. Yeah. I wasn't. You apply online, stockton.com, but you want that pre-approval before you go out, start looking at houses. NMLS 8259, Equal Housing Lender, MLS Consumer Access.org. We will take a break and be right back.
Starting point is 00:17:20 This is Kentucky Sports. Radio. Welcome back, Techies Sports Radio. Do you say the phone lines are empty? Yes. But you just told me they were full. Everyone just hung up at once? No, I didn't say they were full. You misheard me. I said they were empty. Oh, well, they were full earlier, weren't they? They were in the first segment. Okay, I understand. I've had a lot of stuff to talk about. I'm sorry, folks. I don't mean to make you to make you wait. I was going to take one or two now, but I understand. We've been yapping a lot. What person writes, Matt, do you think the trancy women's coach would take the job at kentucky i would think so yeah i mean like she i think it's a lot more money at uk than there probably is at trancey a huge pay increase
Starting point is 00:18:00 a huge step up in status she absolutely would take that job i did the question would just be the recruiting like yeah you know coaching's coaching but recruiting is going to be a big part of it but recruiting nowadays i think it's probably all nil so if you can get the nil taking care of the rest probably takes care of itself right you said her key would be just higher a recruiting guru to handle a lot of that. And by the way, none of you need to suggest to me the Grand Canyon coach anymore. I've heard that 750 times in the last week. I understand.
Starting point is 00:18:31 Shannon, do you know the Grand Canyon woman coach? He is picking up his phone right now over here. I am too. She's like very, she's beautiful. And because she's beautiful, everybody wants her to be the coach here as if they can date her if she comes here. But like that. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:18:45 Yeah. She. Okay. Ryan. I didn't say a word. Mute his microphone. I didn't say a word. That's not the qualification for the coach.
Starting point is 00:18:55 Although she's, I think they're good. Like you said what, sir? They're 29 and 2. Is that what you said? Something like that. So like that she's obviously a very good coach too. But that's not going to be prerequisite. Yeah, that's not going to be the prerequisites.
Starting point is 00:19:08 I just hope that Mitch Barnhart does at least consider the Transylvania Women's coach. The less you talk, the better. 859-2-80-22. He said Transylvania. you though. Yeah. What? You jumped to judgment so quickly.
Starting point is 00:19:22 He didn't even say Grand Canyon. Oh, you said Transylvania. Oh, I was just expecting you. I was preemptively expecting you to say something bad. So you do think he should consider the Transylvania. I hope he does at least consider her and talk to her. Okay. We got to talk a thing about Kate Middleton.
Starting point is 00:19:40 Yeah. What do we? So I have barely followed this story, not at all. But now I'm interested. So Kate Milton for like two months hasn't shown up in public. Correct. Which I think is fine. Like who needs to see somebody all the time, Shannon, right?
Starting point is 00:19:55 Like you don't need to see somebody all the time. But then people are like, apparently she was sick. And so everybody's like, oh, is she okay? So she, I guess they release a picture of her to be like, she's okay. And it's her and her kids. Uh-huh. But then the AP, which released the photo, pulls it and says it doesn't meet our standards because it was altered.
Starting point is 00:20:19 But they didn't say, like, how it was altered. So they don't know if it was like, was it altered like, you know, an Instagram filter? Or was it Shannon, you know, AI? Well, it's something to do with her left arm around her kid was not in the... Was not where a left arm would be? Yeah, like, you know... It was on her right side. No, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:20:42 It didn't line up or something. There was something weird about the alignment. And then they're also making a big deal about the... no ring on her finger too. Oh, there was no ring on her finger. Maybe that means they used somebody else's arm. Possibly. So see, now I am wondering.
Starting point is 00:20:56 Because now they put this picture out to try to be look. Like, look, she's fine. She's okay. And now it's made it worse. So they've had to admit that the picture was doctor, but no one has said what has been doctored. Again, is it an instant? So AP apparently, they won't show pictures unless they're like real life.
Starting point is 00:21:12 So you can't like, but I'm sure they're photographers like Brighton or what it. So I don't know what the rules are. But the fact that they pulled the picture, I've never heard of that before. And presumably they use pictures on Instagram and stuff all the time, Shannon, which would have filters and things, right? Yeah. So for them to pull the picture, it has to be like some major change.
Starting point is 00:21:36 Something going on that left hand. Yeah, maybe it isn't her hand. So you think they used a different hand. So let's say they used a different hand. Well, then why would they use a different hand? Because she lost her left hand, maybe. You think she lost her left hand? No, I don't really think that.
Starting point is 00:21:50 I'm just trying to think out loud, like, why would they alter that? I don't know. Or is it because they're not married anymore? Like, he's not in the picture. Yeah. You see what I'm saying? Yeah. Like, so if they have the picture and she doesn't have the ring on and he's not in it, like, is there some sort of, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:22:07 And then they realized, oh, no, she didn't have the ring, so we need to say it was a fake hand. There's a lot going on there. There's a lot going on. And I, like, I don't care, but now I care because it's so weird. A lot of conspiracy theories you're throwing out there on this. But I'm not, none of these are my theories. I'm just trying to figure. I've never in my life heard of it of the AP saying we can't use this picture because it's been altered.
Starting point is 00:22:32 Because I would think, like I said, Shannon, they probably alter pictures all the time, like the color stuff. So for it to be so bad that it was altered, I just wondered, like, was her hand green in the original picture? Why was it so? I don't know. I think that's the question everybody's asking. I'll have to go back and look at it again. Because I saw the story with, you know, there's a lot of rumors she hasn't been seen too much.
Starting point is 00:22:55 I thought she was ill and sick and in the hospital. Well, I hope she's not. And maybe that's what it is. And maybe like she just doesn't want to show herself being ill, which I understand. Exactly. Like she should, every human deserves privacy. But the ring, I didn't even know about the ring. I didn't either.
Starting point is 00:23:09 And then when he mentions the ring, it occurs to me that what's his face isn't in it? William? Is that his name? so he's not in it. Well, why isn't he in it? You think they have a family photo? Interesting. I'm looking at the picture right now.
Starting point is 00:23:23 Nothing looks weird to me. I agree. It doesn't look weird to me either, but what do we know? You know, we don't know. So they know something. They know something. They know something. Right.
Starting point is 00:23:32 So anyway, I did, I did, I'm now interested in that story, whereas I was not interested in it at all. Now, Rick Petino is on part of my tape this morning. haven't listened to it, but apparently in the interview, first of all, I can't believe that sentence is being said. I mean, nobody made more Rick Petino jokes besides me than pardon my task. Those guys. They have him on the show. But here's what I don't know, which is apparently he says in the interview,
Starting point is 00:24:00 something to the effect of I should have never left, I should have never left Kentucky. If he had anything to do up. Samuel, why don't you give them a little space? you're like right up on top of them. Why don't you go sit over there so that you're not like right up on top of them, sitting right hovering above them? But do you, do you, no, you don't.
Starting point is 00:24:24 Well, sit right there. There you go. Would you, what do you think about that? He said it before, but it felt like the most explicit I'd heard it. You know, we've heard him say that or some form of that for many, many years. I really kind of believe he, there's a part of him that does believe that. He had everything you wanted here. He called it Nirvana.
Starting point is 00:24:43 is where he became where he could walk on water in this state. And I think he does miss that feeling. And I think there's a part of him that does believe that. What happened if he stayed, though? He was the restless sort. He would have left at some point anyway. Or do you think all that stuff that happened to Louisville would have happened here? Oh, hadn't thought about that part.
Starting point is 00:25:01 But I think he wishes he would have stayed. Well, he says that on the broadcast. I haven't heard the interview yet. I want to do that. We'll take a break. Be right back. KS.R. T.
Starting point is 00:25:13 Smith, personal injury attorney. Paul T.J., he'll make them pay. Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. That's one of the best song choices I've heard from you. That one really made me laugh. And unfortunately, the podcast people won't hear it. But that was really funny. My hands are small, I know, with Jewel. I like that. Is that Jewel? Yes, that's right. Yeah. That was really good. So I'm looking at the story where they show the picture and what was altered. I can't even see it.
Starting point is 00:25:43 How did someone figure that out? You got to barely be looking at it with a magnifying glass to see that. Like, do you see it, Shannon? I can't even know what we're, I mean, I don't even know what we're supposed to be looking at. There's a New York Post article where they show where, what it's supposed to be altered. And I don't even see, like, I don't get it. It looks like her daughter's sweater. This may be harder for me to believe than the alteration.
Starting point is 00:26:06 Apparently they're saying that William took it. You're telling me in all the royal family, they don't have somebody to take that picture. He's the one who also edited the picture. Like, really? Yes, he said that he dabbles in doing like photo editing. So he's the one he shouldn't. He should go to somebody else if he's going to get caught. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:26:26 Apparently it's Mother's Day. That's why she's with the kids. So it's Mother's Day in England. But, man, who found that and what they need a hobby? Yeah. Amen. It's still just a picture of a bomb and her children. I guess you could say we need a hobby since we're told.
Starting point is 00:26:42 talking about it. It's like it's one of the top stories in the news. No, it's a great story because I don't know what's going on with. All right, who's up next? All right. Apparently we now have people like, you know, they're back. All right. So go ahead. Derek. Derek. Go ahead, Derek. Hey, man. No, no disrespect
Starting point is 00:26:58 to the women's coach at Transi, but we would be the laughing stock of the nation if we hired her. But you say that. We hired how mummy, we hired how mummy out of nowhere. Indiana State hired the head coach at LMU who won the National Championship, but now he's probably going to go get, after this season, he's going to get a major D1 job.
Starting point is 00:27:21 So, like, it's not insane. People don't do it at schools you follow, but schools hire D2 and D. Bo Ryan, Bo Ryan at Wisconsin. You remember how good Bo Ryan was? They hired him from a D3 school at Wisconsin. Matt, do you really want the women's program to do? If you don't, okay. But wait, man, I don't, listen, that's a different point.
Starting point is 00:27:45 There's a different point. Hang on just a second, sir, and then I'll let you finish. It's a different point to say she may or may not succeed. I have no idea if she succeed or not. But the idea that we would be the laughing stock, when multiple other programs have done this, you just don't know about it. Okay, okay.
Starting point is 00:28:05 Can I finish, please, sir? But, I mean, answer that point. What about Bo Ryan? Okay, okay, okay. Okay, great. Bow, right. Okay. My point is, Matt, is that that athletic program has more money than they know what to do with.
Starting point is 00:28:21 And so there's two phone calls, maybe three, that I make by Mitch Barnhart. First one, I'm calling Columbia, South Carolina. I'm swinging for the defense. You're not getting hurt. Okay, you're not getting hurt. So move on to your next one. For $3 million a year. You're not getting hurt.
Starting point is 00:28:36 So move on to the next one. If you paid her $3 million, South Carolina would pay her $3 million. So what's next? Second call I'm making is to Louisville, Kentucky. He's not coming either. So who's the next one? Well, but I call Matthew Mitchell. Well, but Matthew Mitchell's not doing it.
Starting point is 00:28:52 So now you've gone through your three choices. And my guess, in the three you just named, because the guy sitting next to me is good friends with him and you don't know him. Okay. Okay. Well, I'm just saying I make those people turn me. Okay. But then those three are all going to turn you down and you're right back to where you're starting.
Starting point is 00:29:11 Okay. Okay. Then I go over to North Broadway and I hire a D3 coach. I didn't say hire a D3 coach. I'm just saying to you and I appreciate the call. Let's be real. Outside of probably 20 people listening to this show, none of us know the women's basketball coaching market.
Starting point is 00:29:29 Correct. Me included. No offense to him. If your first choice is Carol Lawson, then you don't really, or see, I keep saying Carol Lawson. Don Staley. Don Staley. Then you, I mean, you know what?
Starting point is 00:29:44 I don't even, you don't know anything. Like, because she's not leaving South Carolina. She's won what? Like six, how many titles is she won there? And Kentucky's never even made. She's won eight of the last 10 SEC. Kentucky's not won a final four. Never even been to a final four.
Starting point is 00:29:58 So she's not coming here. No. And if you offer her $3 million, she'll South Carolina will match it at South Carolina. So that's not happening. The guy at Louisville, first of all, they're not good this year. Secondly, Mitch hates him. And third, he ain't coming. Nope.
Starting point is 00:30:16 Matthew Mitchell, I mean, I defer to you on this, but you don't think he would coach. I don't think he's going to coach again. Okay. He went into the broadcast booth this weekend. That's where he's going to be. So now you're right back where you start. I'm just saying, I am sure there are a ton of great candidates out there, but you do have one down the road who you ought to at least look at.
Starting point is 00:30:38 Sure. You know, Mitch has said before he's always had a short list. He's probably got a short list. He's already had it. And I would bet you she's on it. Probably so. I don't. I will be very surprised if they hired her.
Starting point is 00:30:50 But I also don't think we would be the laughing stock of anything. Because people do it. You just don't pay attention because they're not programs that you follow. That's right. Right. But people do it. The Indiana State coach is a perfect example. Head coach at LMU goes to Indiana.
Starting point is 00:31:09 Indiana State, they just won 20 games for the first time since Larry Bird was here. And his next job will be at a major program, probably this year. Yeah. So who's next? Let's go to Ed. Ed. Ed. What's up, Ed? Two points.
Starting point is 00:31:25 The first one real quick. Every great coach started out as a nobody at some point in their coaching career. They absolutely need to talk to the transit coach. Correct. Rick Petino. So I was on the practice tea talking to an acquaintance named Ralph Beard at Hurstborn Country Club back when Rick was coaching the Celtics. I said to Ralph, Ralph, why did he ever leave here?
Starting point is 00:31:57 Money's not everything. He's already making big bucks. And Ralph said Rick went from being on top of the world to, having the weight of the world on him. He looks like he's been embalmed at a funeral home. He looks like death warmed over. And this was when he was coaching the Celtics. So that's no doubt.
Starting point is 00:32:18 Yeah, but the other thing is, though, I mean, to be fair, to be fair to Rick Petino at that time, going to go coach the Boston Celtics, when you're a dude from that area is kind of amazing. Right. Like, I mean, if you're, I just want you to think about what his career was. He had coached the Knicks, one of the foremost premier basketball program, franchise in the NBA.
Starting point is 00:32:43 He had coached Kentucky. And then the Boston Celtics asked you, that's pretty good. It's not like he was leaving to go to the Atlanta Hawks. It is. So, I mean, like, the Boston's, and if you're a competitive guy, you're sitting there going, I'm on top of the world at the NCAA. I bet I could be in top of the world on the NBA, too. Right?
Starting point is 00:33:06 I mean, that's what a competitive guy would do. I think of head coach and general manager. He had complete control of the self-thing. And he thought he was going to get Tim Duncan. Yeah. He didn't. Yeah. Thought he was going to.
Starting point is 00:33:16 That's true. But the reality of it is it didn't work out, and it was a failure. And I absolutely believe knowing some of the people I knew who were buddies of ricks that, when it was all said and done, he's like, man, I shouldn't have never done that. Well, and I should have never done that. Well, and I should have appreciated that. And hindsight, he said that. Had Sites 21, he said that today. So, I mean, clearly that's what he believes.
Starting point is 00:33:43 I just am saying, it's easy to look back on something and go, well, that was a mistake. But in the moment, dude, the Boston Celtics? Yeah. Like, what's a bet? I mean, what? It's the Celtics and the Lakers. Like, those are the two jobs. And you have a chance to get one of them?
Starting point is 00:33:59 And you think you're getting Tim Duncan? Remember, he had like an 80% chance the way the lottery was back then. of getting Tim Duncan or Keith Van Horn. And at the time, people thought Keith Van Horn was going to be amazing. Sure, absolutely. And he ended up getting neither, and he got Chauncey Billups. Yeah. And Ron Mercer.
Starting point is 00:34:18 And that wasn't quite the same. And he ended up losing out. And like I said, he had complete control of the Boston Celtics, one of the top storied franchises in all the sports. Oh, by the way, remember this. If he had gotten Tim Duncan, might be a different thing. Could be a different story. We have a text from one of the people.
Starting point is 00:34:39 Oh, okay. So there's a woman here from Mexico. Her English is decent. So, no, bad is according to her husband here. First time in the States from Mexico here at the bar. She has written us a question, Shannon, in Spanish. Oh, okay. That Google translator has translated to English.
Starting point is 00:34:58 Okay. And it is, will we have two seasons of wrestlers? I'm a fan of the series, and I'm looking forward to it with great excitement. The short answer is we don't know. We don't know yet. We hope so. Her husband's translated. We hope so, but because the WWE signed with Netflix, everything's gotten put off.
Starting point is 00:35:18 So we hope to know by the end of the summer. So we hope to know by the end of the summer. But we do not know. We thought we'd know in January, but the WWE's deal with Netflix pushed it all off for six or eight months. When you start talking about this, I go back to we were in that pizza place. Chicago and our waitress all of a sudden just stopped like oh my god you're that guy you're oh look at Shannon you're that guy you're in that show I'm watching right now watched it in Mexico oh that's awesome well when I was at the OVC tournament on Friday yeah I'm sitting there watching I went to
Starting point is 00:35:53 Evansville for the OVC tournament sitting there watching this couple comes up to me and I assume they're UK fans KSR fans they work in the UT Martin athletic department and they go go, you're the dude from wrestlers, right? What are you doing here? And I go, oh, you know, I'm watching basketball. And that's all they wanted to talk about. Sure. How's Haley?
Starting point is 00:36:16 How's Shira? What's cash flow up to? You know, like that's all they want to talk about. Well, I hope it does work out for you guys if they have a second season because everybody would love it. Yeah. Hey, Kentucky basketball fans, clear cut hero, the first of its kind, hydration drink, great taste, balance electrolytes, and no artificial ingredients.
Starting point is 00:36:35 Got a big poster board here for it right now. They got orange, they got lemon line, nexus peach mango, cosmic blue raz. That's all there. Don't forget dragon fruit. Grab a clear-cut hero at your local Kroger or get on Amazon and get it. It is the best kind of hydration drink you could have. It is clear-cut hero. I have a bunch of them in my refrigerator right down.
Starting point is 00:36:57 We'll take a break. Be right back. It's the final segment, KSR. Welcome back. Techie Sports Radio. 859-280-22. here at the KS Bar and Grill. Folks coming in for lunch.
Starting point is 00:37:10 Nice to see everybody. As we get ready for the tournament, it'll be Friday night, 7 o'clock, the Cats. Girl Sweet 16 is this weekend. I don't know what you know about the teams, but we'll do our picks later on, but the bracket is out. And Ryan, who should be the favorite?
Starting point is 00:37:32 Don't the two best teams like playing the first round? Do they play in the first round? Like, isn't George Rogers Clark and Sacred Heart? That's who met for the championship last couple of years. Those two are definitely the best. They play in the first round. Wow. The big story to me is in the 12th region, Danville Christian Academy.
Starting point is 00:37:50 29 and 2. Has won the 12th region. First time in school history they're going to the Sweet 16. They were my first call to try to get them to come to KS. Bar. And they turned you down? Well, we're working. I think they're going to come.
Starting point is 00:38:01 Okay. Yeah. I thought he was going to say that, Shannon. Like they were my first call, and they said no. No, I love this story. So I am riding the DCA fan wheel, fan wagon here. I'm sitting here looking at names I haven't seen. I don't feel like Owsley County makes it a lot.
Starting point is 00:38:17 Probably not. No, probably not. It feels like a name I haven't seen very much in these types of events. Your 13th region team is North Laurel. North Laurel. But they've done it before, I think. Barchtown, Bethlehem, I think, is coming for like the fourth year in a row. Is it Bethlehem or Bethlehem?
Starting point is 00:38:31 They say Bethlehem. That's what I thought. I thought they said Bethleh. And then Anderson County is always really good, too. Yeah, they had Mia Jenkins' Miss basketball just a couple years ago. They're 32 and 2, so you would assume that they were pretty good. So that is this weekend as well. Shannon, we went to Comic-Con.
Starting point is 00:38:47 I'm going to go ahead and say it. I am 100% pro Comic-com. Absolutely. Yep. I mean, it's not my thing, Shannon? Like, you know what I mean? I'm not into the stuff that's there. But here's what I like about it.
Starting point is 00:39:01 I said this on the post-game show. there are probably 25,000 people there at a given time. Sure. All dressed up in whatever it is they like. And there are wrestling people. There are like anime, Star Wars, pick your thing. There are, it's like, I guess I thought it was all going to be white dorky people, but it's not. There's a lot of different races.
Starting point is 00:39:29 A lot, I mean, both gender, like a lot of women, more women than I would have thought, right? Young, old. That's exactly right. Young, old people with their kids, et cetera. And I watched, I walked around for like an hour after our show, didn't see one group of people arguing. Everybody was like being themselves. You know what I mean? Like being whatever it is that they are, even if it was Shannon weird, honestly.
Starting point is 00:39:55 Like they're all being it. Everyone seems so happy. I mean, spending $125 to talk to. Barbara Eaton. Like, you've got to be a pretty happy person to do that, I would think. And I just, I just thought, like, you know, this is a nice place for people to get to do, to get to do that. Some people walking around, they bought all this stuff, you know, it's just, I just, I just think in a place where, like, I can't put anything on Twitter without somebody going, you dirty little. It was nice to see a, like, people just being, like, happy in themselves.
Starting point is 00:40:29 I'm so glad you said that because we need to get out of our sports closet and experience different things in life. And this Comic-Con world is a different world than a lot of us do not live in, but yet those people are so happy. They love it. You heard me talk about my son many, many times. That's how I have to relate now to him is to go experience things like that with for him, and I enjoy it. Don't get me wrong, Shannon. Some of the people seem weird, not going to lie to you.
Starting point is 00:40:55 But you know what? They're happy being weird. So who am I to tell them they shouldn't do it? You know what I mean? Well, the way you explain it, it sounds like a little utopia, a little strange uterus. Like, I mean, for them it is. It wouldn't, I mean, I wouldn't want to be dressed up and stuff. But for them.
Starting point is 00:41:10 They make some happy. They love it. They make some happy. We talked about how many people you think the percentage knew that Kentucky even had a basketball game Saturday. Like, yeah, I don't think it was many. No. You know, people come up to us, but it's not like, like, I'm able to walk freely, Shannon. It's like nobody, you know, I mean, it's not our crowd.
Starting point is 00:41:26 Not your demo. But it's still very. The OBW was there, right? OBW is there. Had long line of people talking to the OBW people, so that was cool. All right, who's next? Let's go to James. James.
Starting point is 00:41:35 Go ahead, James. Morning, guys. Hey, I was calling about Grand Canyon University's coach. I'm from Henderson, Kentucky, and live in Springfield, Missouri now. But she grew up in Springfield, Missouri. She's been a winner, and she's won championships in high school. She played at Drury University, won national championships there. she's coasted during university and won national championships
Starting point is 00:42:00 and now she's got Grand Canyon University that plays at a really high level every year she may not be as bad as people think she'll be. Oh, I'm not saying she's bad. Maybe she should be the one to hire. I don't know. I'm just saying people didn't need to keep sending me that because I knew what was their alter reason. You know what I mean, sir?
Starting point is 00:42:18 Oh, I know. Yep. I agree with you. Yeah. All right. I appreciate the call. I also note, you know, Kansas football has been bad forever, right? they've been pretty good the last couple years.
Starting point is 00:42:29 Guess what they went and did? Hired a D3 coach. Their guy came straight from D3 to Kansas and turned the program. There are good coaches everywhere. So I'm just saying like this, I think what sort of annoyed me was the guy saying that we'd be the laughing stock. Whether they should hire her, who knows. But we're not going to be the laughing stock if we ended up doing that.
Starting point is 00:42:48 You know what? Somebody is eventually going to hire her. And if she goes on to have great success. Somebody will. Yes. No doubt about that. Who's next? Let's go to Bill.
Starting point is 00:42:56 Bill. Bill, go ahead, Bill. Hey, yeah, real quick here, just to address what Brown Reckaff said regarding Reed Shepard, first of all, he's never flopped. Secondly, he doesn't whine. And third, to my knowledge, he's never tripped to anybody. That's true. All I think all through, though, that's all true.
Starting point is 00:43:15 All things considered, I think you just have to say, he's definitely not a dukey. That's a great point. He doesn't done any of those characteristics, which are very duky. I agree with you, Bill. Thank you very much. But cornbread hemp.com. The energy around it, the fan base being excited, like this is what it's all about. This is why we do this is these next four weeks. And I'm saying four, because we're going to Phoenix. Get ready.
Starting point is 00:44:10 We're going to Phoenix. We're going to Nashville. Then we're going to Pittsburgh. Then we're going to either Detroit or Boston. And then we're going to Phoenix. That's how it's going to be. I'm doing my Howard Dean there at the end of it. But that's what's going to happen, Shand.
Starting point is 00:44:24 Dupin Schmertz. I tried to get to talk. He wanted me to pay $75. Oh, really? Yeah, I was like, I wanted something for I didn't want it for $70. You should have sat right next to him. Yeah, I just, you can't do it better than you can, dude. We'll see you later.
