Starting point is 00:00:00 Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and Friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Starting point is 00:02:48 Okay, so like we have some, there's some issue with Apple where the podcasts are all on there, but it doesn't auto update. So like if you subscribe to it, you can manually update it and it'll show up. But it won't just show up in your feed. And on the page, KSR page, it updates like a week late. I don't know why it's doing it like that. We're trying to get it fixed. But it's on, it's not happening on the other ones, but it is happening on Apple.
Starting point is 00:03:17 And so people are writing me going, hey, have you never updated the podcast? We're updating it. Just keep, you know, keep refreshing it and you'll get it. Hopefully we will get it updated. Someone told me it would work, Shannon, if you unsubscribe and then subscribe again. We've had to do that before, I know in the past. So I did that, and I'll find out today when Shannon puts the podcast up if that worked. If that worked, then I'll just have everybody do that until we figure out what the solution is.
Starting point is 00:03:43 And it seems like about once every seven or eight years we have to go back in and reset the password, and only one person has the password. Yeah, we have to find Big Easy and try to get everything. Why don't we write that password down? No, I think we have it now. I think Gus has it now. But for a while, we always had to go to Big Easy and try to get it working. Yeah, that one year he can remember it either. Remember, he had to go back and look through some old emails
Starting point is 00:04:04 before he finally found the password. Yeah. So, but anyway, I'll let you know if the unsubscribe subscribe works. And if it does, then everybody can know to do that. We're going to do the high school girls' sweet 16 picks tomorrow. Okay. But a couple things. McGoffin County and the McGovern.
Starting point is 00:04:26 McLaughen County Cadillac. You can play that, Shannon, on the show. McLaughin County yesterday made the Sweet 16 for the first time in 100 years. How about that? Won the 15th region. Had never won it before. One the 15th region. McGoffin County.
Starting point is 00:04:42 It was at Powell County High School. I almost went when I saw that that wasn't that far away. I ended up not going, but they ended up winning the region. That's one of the reasons I love the Kentucky Suite 16. You always get that storyline where a team hasn't been there in forever. and the whole community rallies and they all come to rub. Actually, it wasn't it. It was a different place.
Starting point is 00:05:00 Nevertheless, though, they still won. Go ahead. Well, I finished. But isn't that, isn't that cool? I think it's awesome. That's why I love about the Sweet 16. I think four teams got in yesterday, and there's like 10 tonight, so the field is really about to come together.
Starting point is 00:05:12 So I think Marshall County is in. McLaughin County. I think Trinity beat the Seneca team. Yeah, Harlan County. Harlan County, 1 133. Perry County Central. and last night, my maroons, they could knock out Travis Perry. I heard they had one game from Rupp.
Starting point is 00:05:30 Somebody texted me and said they locked the door at the Lyon County Madisonville game because there were so many people. And I was like, don't lock it. I consider it. I feel like if you lock it, that's a fire hazard. I mean, you could maybe say no more people in, but don't lock it. I was leaving Nashville and considered going north to Hopkinsville instead of this way. So Lyon County made the finals.
Starting point is 00:05:50 Yeah, they play Henderson tonight, I think, to see if Travis Perry can go to Rup, one more, Tom before he's moved to Lexington. I hope he does. I'm pulling for him because last year when he was here, he didn't have his best game. Then, you know, you see him play at other time. He's just awesome. No, last year they won a game. Two years ago he was bad in the game. But didn't he play all right last year?
Starting point is 00:06:09 Yeah, he still's not like a Travis Perry lighted up for 30 in a game or something like that. That's what I think everybody wants to see. And I hope he gets a chance to do that. All right, let's talk about a couple other things here. Let's talk about the women's team. Yesterday, we found out during the show that Kyra LZ was let go. unlike Michael Bennett, she was not let back. Maybe Shannon should have called her to see.
Starting point is 00:06:32 Maybe she's still on the team. It was just a misstatement. So now the question is, who do they hire? We had the guy call and say hire, you know, hire the South Carolina coach, Don Staley, hire Jeff Walls, and then he said hire Matthew Mitchell. And I said, well, they're not going to hire, you know, Matthew Mitchell doesn't want to do it. But then a woman for USA Today said Matthew Mitchell was going to take the job. I'm not sure if she knows what she's talking about,
Starting point is 00:07:04 but no one is a better Matthew Mitchell source than you, Ryan. You've had 24 hours. What do you think is happening? I honestly don't know. Well, why don't you call him? Well, he and I, we were texting some yesterday, and, you know, he expressed his upset about what happened to Kyrie Elsie. He goes, it's very sad, you know.
Starting point is 00:07:21 He's upset. Yeah. but he didn't say yes he didn't say no so I honestly I don't know well that's much more possible than than it seemed yesterday yeah I mean you had to have talked about it we just just were texting that was it okay I mean the form of communication was not my main concern it was more the content of the communication what time of day was it I didn't I didn't care so much where the voice or text or voice to text or whatever He'll come on the show.
Starting point is 00:07:54 But did you get the sense that he would be open to coming back? I have no idea. I'm not kidding. So you didn't ask it? He didn't lean one way or the other. Didn't say yes, didn't say no. So I don't know. But did you ask?
Starting point is 00:08:09 Dude, I can show you the conversation. I don't want to really get into it. Okay, then we don't have to get into it. That's all you got to say to it. I mean, I'm a reporter at my core, too. I'm trying to report. And if you don't want to get into it, that's totally fine. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:22 So I'm going to not make him talk. This is the first time you and I've talked about it. That's true. If I just, Shannon, listen to his speech right there that I just heard, then clearly he's thinking about it. If Brian doesn't want to talk about it, if Ryan doesn't want to talk about it, then clearly he's thinking about it. Otherwise it would be no.
Starting point is 00:08:39 Yeah, otherwise it would be no. So the universe, I talked to someone at UK, you know, associated with the UK, who said that they laughed at the USA Today report that he was coming. they kind of laughed at that report. And we're like, no. But did say, yes, if he's interested, we will certainly be talking to. So that was where it was left with me. Not that there was anything that has happened or even that he would be offered the job,
Starting point is 00:09:07 but they certainly, I think there was the notion that if there was interest. So here's my question for you. I'm going to leave Ryan out of this because he's good friends with him. Drew, do you think you bring Matthew Mitchell back and run it back? or do you think it's time to just try something in a different way, like a new, new era? I'm not a hard no on bringing him back because he's proven, even though he could have been a little bit. I don't think they never got a championship or anything like that, but I think they finished third in his last season. He's obviously in touch with the fans and he's loved here, so I'm not a no on that.
Starting point is 00:09:41 But I would do my due diligence across the whole country, and he would be on my list if he's interested. but I don't know that I would just run back to him right away. I would make sure I'm considering all options. I know the Grand Canyon woman, she's a popular pick. I'd be lying if I could break down every women's basketball coach. But I'm saying they should consider everyone, but certainly have him in consideration with it. But you wouldn't say, just go to him and if he takes it, do it. Not right away.
Starting point is 00:10:08 At least look at some other people. It might be the decision you go with, and if that's what they decide, I'd be fine with it. But I think you do need to look around. Shannon, I would treat him as an option, but I would treat him as the option of the same as everybody else. I mean, listen, I love Matthew Mitchell. He's hosted this show. He's a great dude. He also kind of left right before the season started, right?
Starting point is 00:10:31 And for his whatever valid concerns, that's totally fine. But I think you owe it to the program, Shannon, to do a universal search. And if you determine Matthew Mitchell's the best candidate, then you hire him, Shannon. But I don't feel like it. You do it just because he coached here. before. Totally agree with you. And we got to remember, I mean, he had some good seasons at Kentucky also had a stretch where he had some bad seasons, had a lot of players leave. He did. You know, it's not like he doesn't come with any negativity whatsoever. But yeah, I think you definitely,
Starting point is 00:11:01 like what Drew said, you go out there, you look and see what's available. And if he's the best, you take it. Yeah, or if it's a tie, maybe even lean towards him. But I agree with that. Yeah. Tie goes to runner. You know you're going to get, it's not going to be a complete failure with him. I mean, the fans already love him. He was there. over a decade. He knows a little bit what he's getting into. Now with NIL it's going to be a little different. But you could make a higher that's just a flop and you're doing it again. You know he's not going to be that. His floor is much higher than some of the names you'll consider. Do you Okay, so now we're back to you, Mr. Oh, okay. Toll, of course he's my friend.
Starting point is 00:11:35 I'm kidding. I'm just kidding. I've been the same way. Do you, do you want to say anything about it or do you want to like move on to other topics? I mean, for me personally, I want to. The problem is you get too good friends with everybody. Like nobody that I'm friends with is ever going to be involved in any of this. So, but go ahead. For me, personally, I would love it. I think it would be awesome if he was back, you know. But is that because you're friends?
Starting point is 00:11:54 Yeah. Okay, so let's try to take that to the side. Do you think they should do a thorough search or if Matthew Mitchell wants the job, it should be Matthew Mitchell's? You know, coaches that, I'm trying to think other coaches that came back, like Bobby Petrino came back to the moment. It doesn't work. It never works.
Starting point is 00:12:09 That does concern me thinking, you know, his legacy right now, is he's a Hall of Fame coach here at Kentucky. You can't go. I mean, I say it never works. It, I think, has worked in one or two circumstances, but for the most part, it doesn't work. And that includes even people who are legends. Like, I think Bill Snyder, when he went back to Kansas State, it just doesn't work. Have we ever had a head coach at Kentucky at a major sport come back as the head coach after they've left?
Starting point is 00:12:36 Liam Cohen. I'm talking about head coach. Wasn't the head coach. No, no, no, he wasn't. I'm just saying I he did when he left they were pretty good it was more of a health situation so it's a little different it's a little bit than taking another job and crawling back or getting fired and wanting it back and you know if he hadn't had his health maybe he'd still coach probably would so it's a little different than the coaches
Starting point is 00:12:58 crawling back to old jobs well you know a lot of things going on he's got his foundation but do you what okay so but that's can I give you my concern about him yeah it's that yeah you know I want a coach when you're a program like Kentucky women's basketball. Men's is different, okay? Men's were a legendary program. I want an established guy. But when you're the women's program,
Starting point is 00:13:20 I think you want somebody that's out there hungry, like this is their life. Uh-huh. Right? Because we're in an impossible conference with programs with a lot more history than us. We need to go, we need to be like Matthew Mitchell was 15 years ago.
Starting point is 00:13:34 If he's got all this other stuff and this is one of the things, that was to be honest with you, that was the criticism with him at the end of the time, as he was distracted. That was the criticism of him. If we're being fair, that was the criticism of it. That Max Exodus year when he is distracted and he is not totally focused on this.
Starting point is 00:13:54 I'd want to make sure that that's not the case. Because your reasoning yesterday for why he wouldn't do it is he got a lot of stuff going on. I don't want, I want somebody in this job that this is it. Because that's what I think drew this job needs. And I'm sure having already gone through that a little bit of them in the past, if they get to a point where there's an interview and it's a real consideration, he'll have to convince them I'm 150% in on bringing this program back to some significance. They hired him when he was at Moorhead State, hungry, young, go-getter type of coach.
Starting point is 00:14:27 Maybe that's another route they had to look at. You know, when I was, there came a point with the website where I, because I had radio and because I had other things, I couldn't devote myself to it 100%. And a website, especially a breaking news website, has to have a person that that's their thing. Yeah. Right? And so then I knew it was time to hand it to Tyler and Drew. I just would want to make sure this is his thing because this job is like that.
Starting point is 00:14:56 And I don't think you can. So, I mean, ultimately, I guess UK will see what that is. Who's next, Shannon? Justin. Justin. Justin. Yes, I have two things. The first one is the other day I set up and worked the Drake Concent.
Starting point is 00:15:10 and he really loves Kentucky. He talked about how much this stop was important to him. He gave six students $20,000 for their scholarship. Didn't give it to him, though, or did he just didn't give it to him? Because he also said he was going to come to a free show here, and I don't think he ever did that. That's true, but I think he really gave it to him. All right. Well, if you're one of the six, let me know.
Starting point is 00:15:33 I hope he did. I heard that, and I was like, that's awesome. But I also remember when he looked at the U.K. student body and said, I'm going to come to a. free show here and they all got excited and some of them are still waiting. I think I was in school. So I hope he did, Justin, because if he did, that's awesome. Well, my second point is Tennessee fan base has become my number one hated.
Starting point is 00:15:54 They have overshot Louisville because I've seen on the comments saying that Kentucky fans need to have class. What class have they ever have? They don't have any ounce of class. There's no, no, the two schools that don't get to talk about class are Tennessee football and Yukon basketball. You don't get to talk about class. You just don't. Well, even their bad, even Tennessee basketball is getting just as bad as their football fan. They are. And that's why we've got to meet them in the SEC
Starting point is 00:16:19 tournament. We got to beat them in the SEC tournament because they have been better. They haven't just had one better season. To be fair, the last few years, they've been better than us. But this year, we got to take them in the postseason. And I hope that's what happens, Justin. Yep. Thank you. I appreciate it, man. There's a great way to support UK athletes and still
Starting point is 00:16:39 drink wonderful water. They say I'm saying alkaline, that's not right. Alkaline's correct. I thought it was alcohol. Why are people telling me it's wrong? They're wrong. All right. Shut up, people.
Starting point is 00:16:49 Alkaline water source from natural aquifers. It's Kentucky rain, R-EIN.com. Having it at Kentucky branded in all locations, B&K, stop and shop and marathon and Yoters Market in Flemingsburg, it's Kentucky Rain.com. REIN.com has a lot of UK players on it from all the various sports. and it helps UK athletics. It's Kentucky Rain.com, R-E-I-N.com, Kentucky Rain, Elite Water for Elite Athletes. We'll take a break.
Starting point is 00:17:18 Be right back. This is KSR. To talk to Matt Jones and the crew call the Clark's Puppet Shop phone line at 859-28027 or 1-806 or 1-800-606. You can also text Matt on the A-Vision Glass text machine at 772-724. You think they play that when they walk into Rupp Arena in McAfee? County? Oh, they absolutely should play that as they walk in. They definitely should. I would stand
Starting point is 00:17:47 up and cheer. I think they play the first game of the Sweet 16. I think it's them versus like Perry County Central so a mountain team will go to the elite eight. They should drive the Cadillac onto the court to bring them out to kick off the tournament. That would be absolutely
Starting point is 00:18:02 awesome. Shannon, can we talk just a second back to the Michael Bennett thing? He still hasn't deleted the tweet. What the hell, man. Yeah, I don't understand how getting hacked works. I thought if you got hacked, you can't get back into your account because somebody hacked your account. But wouldn't the first thing you do be delete the tweet?
Starting point is 00:18:23 I'd be like, I got to get off the internet immediately. Because people are probably still seeing it for the first time and reaching out or thinking it's true. Because a lot of people retweeted it. Yeah. So why doesn't he delete the tweet? I don't know. You're asking me to get into his brain. into his psyche, I have no idea.
Starting point is 00:18:43 All right. You think you would delete it. You think you would delete it? I'm going to text him, delete the day. He needs to delete the tweet that says he's dead. Yeah. I mean, that would be the first step. That would be the very first thing you would do, right?
Starting point is 00:18:55 Is, is. You need social media counseling. Yeah. Is today the final day of the Kenny Payne era? They play today in the ACC tournament. I would be shocked. I would be shocked. You think he's fired tonight?
Starting point is 00:19:08 They play it like two-thirds. Like 430 NC State, I believe. After the game before his press conference. Yeah, the Utah State coach in between. Oh, you think they do it? And then Kenny has to come out and do the... Apparently, that's the thing to do now, yeah. Okay, so let's do this.
Starting point is 00:19:22 When the show starts tomorrow, is Kenny paying the coach at Louisville? I'm going no. So that means he has to lose, because there's always a chance they can win. Yeah. He has to lose, and then he's fired tonight. You're going to say not that you think he's gone? I'll say gone. Right.
Starting point is 00:19:40 I'll say gone. Shannon. I'm going to say he loses, but somehow tomorrow morning he's still got a job. I'm going to say they get him back into town and it happens tomorrow. Yeah. So I'm going to say he is the coach at tip off of the LaRue County show tomorrow. Okay. I agree.
Starting point is 00:19:59 But will he be coached by the end of the show? I can't promise that. I think he will, let's put it like this. I think by the time we get to the session Wednesday night, he's fine. Probably. So if I could bet on draft Kings, I would bet between 10 and 7 on tomorrow is the, is the firing time for Kenney. They do exact scores.
Starting point is 00:20:22 Maybe get like an exact hour. They're a nine and a half point underdog today. You think there are any chance they? Against NC State? Yeah. Oh, I'm loading up on NC. They're going to get destroyed, aren't they? Because NC State, aren't they still like in the, well, they might not be in the target.
Starting point is 00:20:37 I don't think so. But you've got to assume that the players. know what's ahead. It'd be hard to get up for this game. This would be a great time to quit. It's like right now. Like right now would be a good time, Shannon, to just mail it in. You're playing an afternoon game.
Starting point is 00:20:51 No one's going to be there. You're in D.C. Get rid of the game. Go do some tour stuff. The players don't even want to be there. Yeah, you're in D.C. You'd be like, look, we can go to the Lincoln Memorial before it gets, you know, the lights are, like it doesn't get dark.
Starting point is 00:21:04 Yeah, go fall into the water. Go touch the Washington Monument. I think, I think, I think they, should go ahead and mail it it. Who's next? Crease. Crease. How are you, Crease? Hey, guys, I'm doing great. Hey, I just got two quick questions for you.
Starting point is 00:21:20 I'm looking at some of the baracotology projections, and I see Kentucky as a four-seed on a lot of the sites. I just want to know how many games do you think it takes when in Nashville to lock up that three-seed. And then secondly, probably for Drew. I need that the best Nashville chicken spot within walking distance to Bridgetown. Probably for Drew. Why, Drew?
Starting point is 00:21:40 Why, you don't think? I can eat. You don't think I know what's good? What's good? What's your favorite national I don't know, but I still wanted the, I wanted the chance to be, what isn't the one like hattie bees or whatever? There's Prince. There's one, Princess is a big one. There's one right from Bridgestone Arena. Yeah, what's that? I'm forgetting. I don't like that one. That one might actually be the hattie bees, but the line is always outrageous. No chickens worth that line. I don't like that line because we've tried to go there before and we can never get in. Listen, I know they're known for their hot chicken, but I will give you quickly.
Starting point is 00:22:16 My recommendations are on Bridgestone Arena. Rippies across the street has a sausage and cheese plate. I live on that during the SEC tournament. Roberts Western World has the recession special for $5. You get a moon pie, fried bologna sandwich, and a PBR. Those are the only meals you need at the SEC tournament all week. Right there on Broadway. My advice to you about eating is get the heck away from there.
Starting point is 00:22:40 Although I hear that across the street from the arena is now, like an 80 thing food court. Has that always been there? It was there the last time we went. There's 30 places to eat in there. I mean, that's the real answer for where you want to go. And that's right across the street. There's nice restaurants.
Starting point is 00:22:56 You mean where that like Apple story is? Yep. It's called Fifth and Broadway. All right. Yeah, that's where you go. How are you folks doing? Who's next? Andy.
Starting point is 00:23:02 We ate there. Eddie V's last year. Oh, that was Eddie V's. Okay. All right. Go ahead, Andy. Yeah, he's talking about beating Tennessee on Sunday. that we'd have to get till Sunday
Starting point is 00:23:14 and Cal has said numerous times the only important thing in this tournament is to make it to Sunday and I hope he's joking when he says we need to just lose on Sunday but do you think they'll ever change the Sunday thing and do it just like Tuesday through Saturday? It's a TV thing
Starting point is 00:23:33 so I don't think they know is the answer to that I mean you know it could but I think it's probably unlikely as far as For the tournament seating, you're right. It does only get to Sunday. Here's our problem for our seed being helped. We're only going to get one quality win before Sunday.
Starting point is 00:23:52 Because if you play Ole Miss or A&M, that doesn't really help you. And then Alabama, in the next round, that one would help you. But you've already beaten it. Right? So I don't really know that our seed is going to. I think here's where I think we're going to get to be a three. But I think if we were to lose Friday, we might. drop to a full. So I think the key thing is win Friday, and then I think you're playing for
Starting point is 00:24:15 house money and playing for an... You're never going to convince me an SEC tournament doesn't matter. I don't care what Cal says. Cal can say that until he's blue in the face. You go win the SEC tournament. He may think it doesn't matter. I think it matters, especially if it's Tennessee sitting there in the finals. We'll be right back. T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay. Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt owns. Well, look at you and I can't disguise I got. Nice.
Starting point is 00:24:47 That's the sounding good right there. Won't sound good on the podcast. Yeah, the podcast is going to burn you on that one. Not going to sound good on the podcast. I knew that, Shannon. But Eric Carmen died, and I owed him a tribute. I was sad to see that. I liked Eric Carmen.
Starting point is 00:25:01 This one all by myself, a couple of good songs from the 80s. I am a huge fan of this song right here. If it comes on on my serious or flipping stations, I will always stop and listen because it's just, it's perfect. And I love it. And I hated to see he passed away. I know he did all by myself and this. I don't know a lot else about what he did.
Starting point is 00:25:23 That's all you need to know. But this one is all that matters. See, just give it another saying here. Come on, bring it home, Matt. I'm hungry eyes. One look at you and I can't disguise a guy. How can you not like that? We can learn that one to bring you up on stage in Nashville.
Starting point is 00:25:44 Well, that's falsetto, so I don't think I can. Yeah. One guy tweeted this morning, this was the last song that was played on the podcast music. And like we killed off. When yesterday? That's what somebody tweeted to say. It said, we are irresponsible because how many guys is the last song, the podcast. I don't think that's right.
Starting point is 00:26:02 Shannon played it, but it was like a week or two. We were talking about the Snackwards Cam last week. Yeah, because that's what they play. Yeah, they play it during the Snackwards game. So, yeah, I mean, we're not responsible for a week, a week and a half later, right? I mean, if I were to say... Yeah, I didn't play a Michael Bennett song. So...
Starting point is 00:26:22 Shannon gets to make all those jokes. He gets to do it. You know, you get to do that. Well, rest of face to Eric Carman. I got a question because somebody wrote me here on the text machine. This will be my Kentucky-Branded text of the day. Remember, they will be at the tin roof for the thing. Matt, you always say the SEC tournament win matters.
Starting point is 00:26:45 I'm with Cal. I don't think it matters as long as we get to the finals. All right, let's just see if I want to see if I'm in the majority here, because I'm of the belief our fan base cares. I'm of the belief that our fan base wants to win the SEC tournament. So let's say this is true. Kentucky, Tennessee finals on Sunday of the SEC tournament will not affect the seating.
Starting point is 00:27:07 Do you care if we win? 772-7-4-5-254. You just give me a yes or no. Be in serious. Do you care about winning the SEC tournament? Yes or no? And I will do a little poll again, 772-774-5-254. I'll watch the votes come in.
Starting point is 00:27:25 Do you care? 100%. It's a big deal for me. Like Drew and I've said many times, that used to be the Kentucky invitation. You go to Nashville, you own Nashville, you win the tournament, and you walk away cutting down the nets. I completely agree.
Starting point is 00:27:38 scale 1 to 100, I care, 150. Like, we can't just keep surrendering. I mean, that's part of what being Kentucky basketball is, how you've won that 30-something times. Whatever city is in, doesn't matter. Kentucky fans are taking it over. I hate how we're kind of just getting used to. It's been since 2018 since we've been played on Sunday.
Starting point is 00:27:57 Yeah. That's not, we've got to get back in the game. Do you care? Yeah, if you're getting to Sunday, you definitely won the championship, and what's the point of playing it, right? What's the point of playing? If it doesn't, like, and it's Tennessee. That's the other thing is we're acting like, like, if we go, it's probably going to be Tis or Auburn.
Starting point is 00:28:13 It's going to be one of those teams. Don't you? Of course we want to beat them, don't we? And a lot of fans, that is their one event. They don't get to go to the NCAA tournament. They can't get into Rupp. It's expensive as hell to go to Nashville, but they still go. We're Kentucky.
Starting point is 00:28:25 We need to play more than one, two. We need to win all of the games in the tournament as often as we can. One person writes, breaking news, Matt. Eric Carmen's back alive again. Okay, that's not very nice. That's good one. I wish. You write another song.
Starting point is 00:28:39 Yeah. And we, and by the way, if you hear on the pike, you don't have to, like, save me singing there. Because it does, it's not going to. No, I think we got to. I think it was great with the music. But the problem is, it's like when they get those tracks of, like, Enrique Iglesias. Do you remember that? I say the tracks.
Starting point is 00:28:57 Yeah, they had Enrique Iglesias singing that song without the music. Do you have that, Shannon? I can find it. Look that up. It's a hilarious. Like he's singing one of those songs, and he just sounds horrible. I don't think I've heard that. Yeah, we'll just put, we'll have to pull it up here a second.
Starting point is 00:29:13 All right, while the votes are coming in, it's like leaning 98-2, yes. Yeah, it matters. This is what Cal's just off on, but go ahead. I'll even say it'll buy me a little goodwill if they win the tournament. I agree. I agree. I agree. I've said, if you win the SEC tournament and then you go losing the elite eight in a close game,
Starting point is 00:29:35 I feel better about that loss than if you, you know what I mean? If you didn't, so I'm with you, Drew. I would think if you're a coach, if nothing else, it buys you some goodwill. It's a trophy. Yeah. All right. Who's up? Do you want to hear the-
Starting point is 00:29:49 Oh, you want to do Enrique? Yeah, real quick. So this is Enrique. What song is it? It's, uh, whatever his big song was. Okay, go ahead. Oh, wow. It sounds like William hung.
Starting point is 00:30:10 Wow. Right here. So there you go. That's, uh, I love that. I feel like you can keep that in the podcast. That's not the copyrighted version right there. Do you think you can? I already took it out, so, yeah.
Starting point is 00:30:39 I mean, you can play it again if you really want to hear it again. No, it's okay. What time is plenty? People can look it up if you're listening on the podcast. Yeah, you can look it up. It's going to be Miss Kelly's in Pryor's Alley this week. Who? Miss Kelly's the karaoke bar.
Starting point is 00:30:49 That's going to be us. Sounded like that here in a few days. I thought she said Kelly Kelly, Kelly. I was like. I don't think should be there. Yeah, that was in my neighbor. All right. Chad.
Starting point is 00:30:57 Chad, go ahead, Chad. It's 982, yes. I mean, it's not even close. Like, yes. All right, go ahead. Hey, guys. Hey, the Michael Bennett story this morning got to be thinking, you know, me and my wife's been trying to decide whether to go to Nashville this Friday and stay.
Starting point is 00:31:15 I got to stay and, you know, I got to stay in life is short, so I went ahead and went ahead. I was in the book and hotel room. Then you come back and he's alive now. So I guess we'll teach you guys to Nashville on Friday. Yes, there you go. How about Michael Bennett teaching people about? life today, about the preciousness of life. Yes.
Starting point is 00:31:34 First of all, I know it's expensive, but like you should go. I will say this, I looked at the hotel rooms, cheaper than usual. I mean, I guess the market, they finally built all those hotels, so it's not as, I mean, don't get me wrong. It's still expensive, but it's not nearly as expensive as I remember it being. Do you agree with that? I looked just yesterday. Some of those hotels kind of out by Vanderbilt, not really right in the picture.
Starting point is 00:32:00 of it. I would say they're very affordable for Nashville right now. If you're willing to stay next to Vanderbilt or even more so next to the airport, even farther out, you could get them for $115 or less. Downtown, though, even, I mean, I saw downtown hotels for $2.25. I mean, those used to be $450. So, yeah. Now, the tickets, that's a whole different thing.
Starting point is 00:32:25 The tickets are going to be a lot. But again, I think it's fun sometimes you can just go and. go to the bars. I mean, to be quite frank with you, that's what we'll probably be doing something, right? Yeah, like with all cases, you want your Tennessee and probably Alabama, they're another good traveler not far away to lose if you're wanting to get Kentucky tickets on end of the weekend. Because those are two fan bases joining Kentucky that are excited right now. And for Tennessee, especially, it can be in their own backyard. It's all about having Tennessee lose. Yep.
Starting point is 00:32:51 If Tennessee, because if you're ranking fan bases, Kentucky's by far number one, Tennessee and Nashville's number two, then Auburn and then Alabama. Arkansas would be on that list if they were good. They were good. But because they're not, that's the four that will have people there. So root for those. And also, just coincidentally, they're the four best teams. So that helps as well.
Starting point is 00:33:11 Who's next? Let's go to John. John. John. All right. How about Ben? Ben, go ahead, Ben. Yeah, I was just going to say that I think I speak to the Kentucky fan base.
Starting point is 00:33:28 I would like to win every game, especially that the T tournament. You speak for me. I'm with you. I mean, I, you know, look, everything's going to come down to March this year. We've said it all year, but SEC tournament's part of March. Like, you know, when I sit and think about some of my favorite memories, some of them are SEC tournament games. I mean, I appreciate the call, the Mississippi State game with DeMarcus and John.
Starting point is 00:33:55 Think about how, like, when we think of DeMarcus and John, that team is the best part of the season. Because then we went and lost to West Virginia, right, Ryan? So, like, thankfully we had that game and that tournament. You used to go with your grandpa. There's all these stories of parents taking their kids or dads and sons and just these wonderful stories we hear all the time. We take our vacation to go down there.
Starting point is 00:34:19 You want to go and see your team succeed and win and play well. And it's just part of it. The year that Dominique Hawkins had that huge run in the SEC tournament and we beat Texas A&M, I think, in the finals. Derek Willis hit a three, I think, to win the game at the end of the game. That was a great one. I think that was what, Ulyss and Murray maybe his year or something. It was, I think it might have been Fox.
Starting point is 00:34:42 I'll add the year Malik Monk, Arkansas's coaches were talking trashy and warm-ups. I think that was the championship game, and then Monk went off against his home state school. That was a fun one for me. I mean, we just haven't been good in it in a few years, and we need to have one. So, I mean. Currently the longest drought between playing without playing on a Sunday. Wow. It's school history.
Starting point is 00:35:01 It's been a while. So let's go do it. And then if we're in the finals and it's Tennessee, don't sit there and tell me that game doesn't matter. It matters to everybody. You got to go and you got to win. I'll tell you what else you have to do. You have to do Draft Kings.
Starting point is 00:35:12 We are going to be, so there's a sports book there in Nashville. The Draft King Sports Book is also like combined with sports and social club. Okay. Right. Like it's a thing. We're going to be there hanging out and watching the game. Nice. You know, just the boys.
Starting point is 00:35:26 Just chilling. Hanging out, lounging, profiling. eating some cheesy fries. I got a good pretzel. I don't know if they have been scouting it out. But hey, it's tournament time, and the thrill and excitement of Marchmania is here. You can get it in on the action at Draft Kings.
Starting point is 00:35:39 Five bucks, if you bet five bucks, you get $150 instantly. Like, like in seconds. Celebrate college football's most frenzy time of the year. Draft King is giving their customers a shot for a bonus bet. The code is KSR, $150 instantly in bonus bets with the Draft King's sports book with the code KSR. Remember, the crown is yours.
Starting point is 00:36:01 If you have a gaming problem, call 1-800 gameware, 18 plus, physically present in Kentucky, but I'm spire a 168 hours after issues, eligible in deposit restrictions plot terms of sportsweek. Dot, draft kings.com slash B-ball. And yes, Shannon, I did notice that you, like, cut into my spot the other day and added 10 or 15 seconds mocking me. That isn't very nice of you. You came up a little short. That's not, I know people say that about me sometimes, but that's not what you're not supposed to say that. I could have slowed you down and may just sound like you were drunk, or I could just tell everybody.
Starting point is 00:36:29 what I like about Draft King. I've heard it three or four times, and I laugh every time with Shannon cuts in. John doesn't know how to do a 60-second commercial. Promote code is KSR. Remember, so tomorrow, LaRue County High School, and then Thursday, I'm not sure where we're doing the show, but we'll be hanging out in Nashville all day, Thursday,
Starting point is 00:36:46 and then Friday, the show is at 10 roof Friday morning. Get there early, get your place, and that's always a fun day. And then Shannon's band is playing at 10 roof at 5.30 on. Thursday. Correct. Yeah. Yeah. So that's Alice Bluegown opening for Janet Patton and the health inspect. We'll take a break and be right back. Just kidding. To talk to Matt Jones and the crew, call the Clark's Puppet Shop phone line at 859-2802-87 or 1-800-606, 4263.
Starting point is 00:37:19 And send us the Kentucky brand at tweet of the day by tweeting Matt at KY Sports Radio. This is better. Sounds a lot better. It's the auto-tuned version. Yeah, that's the auto-tuned version. 859-280-2287 Techie Sports Radio at the risk of making everyone mad
Starting point is 00:37:39 oh well so you'll think this I think everybody will think this is funny they released the transcript today of you know when Biden interviewed with the special counsel about his documents etc and they released the transcript and they found out that you know some of the things
Starting point is 00:37:55 the prosecutor had said like he had memory issues or whatever and like he did on a few things things, but also some of the things like they said he didn't know when his son died. He did. So I'm not sure why he said that. But there's a part that I thought was very funny, which was they said that he, shaded, he got in a side conversation with the prosecutor about his Corvette. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:38:17 Okay. Just like he just wanted to talk about his Corvette. And that he three different times while he was talking go, yeah, my Corvette goes, hmm. Hey, you had something he said. And I think that's really strange that you would sit there and go, hmm. And they type that out in the transcript?
Starting point is 00:38:41 They just said he hummed like his car would hum. So I'm doing what I think it would sound like. Three times. But I like you sitting there and they're going, Mr. President, did you handle the documents incorrectly? They were in my Corvette, which goes, that's not normal. You know, then probably not.
Starting point is 00:39:04 But what is normal anymore? That's a good question. It's what is normal. All right. So the NCAA, so it got announced a couple days ago. There's going to be an NIL tournament next December in Las Vegas. Eight teams playing, and the winning team, the players split a million dollars in NIL money. I think it's kind of cool.
Starting point is 00:39:30 I think, first of all. brilliant idea. Yeah. Secondly, wouldn't teams want to play? Like, apparently the first group of teams, shockingly, doesn't include us because we don't play in those. But Duke, Kansas, Arizona, a lot of the top teams.
Starting point is 00:39:48 I mean, Shannon, you know the players are going to try hard for that, right? Like to split a million dollars. Look at where we were just a couple of years ago. I know, like two years ago you couldn't even like have a sandwich. Yeah, I couldn't get a sandwich. And now you get to play for a million dollars. It's insane. I mean, do you think this, Drew, is what makes Cal change his mind on playing in these eight-team tournaments
Starting point is 00:40:07 if, like, the Maui Invitational starts to be for money? Well, I mean, if your players first, there's nothing putting your players more out in front and able to succeed than them potentially winning $2 million at the beginning of the season. So I would hope he would really consider this because I assume anyone in uniform is going to want to play and be a part of it. I think it'll make the players try extra hard, don't you? I mean, if they're playing for that kind of money. You're playing in a tournament in the Bahamas, or are you going to play for a million dollars in Las Vegas?
Starting point is 00:40:36 You're going to want to play in that one in Las Vegas. So here's another thing I was thinking when I saw this. I mean, college basketball, and this is a bigger conversation, maybe we'll have some in the offseason. But college basketball and football, but really basketball, has got to be proactive in how they embrace this new era. The new air is here. And like you're not going to be able to change.
Starting point is 00:40:56 So the question is, how can you be proactive and make the best of the era? And what I was sitting there thinking is, in professional sports, probably the biggest weakness professional sports has is contracts are guaranteed whether you win or lose. So there's always this worry, like do the guys, how much do they care? And I think when you get to the finals and the Super Bowl, they care, but how much do they care about regular season games? Here's something that actually could, the NCAA in college basketball could do uniquely them. Yeah. Which is make it to where the NCAA turns out. tournament has a money prize for the players.
Starting point is 00:41:32 We're winning the SEC regular season has a money prize for the players. Shannon, we're winning the SEC tournament has a money prize for the players. You want to make those events matter all the time? There's your answer. Now, I know they, I think they still matter now, but it would give college basketball to me a unique thing that the other sports don't really have. you know, the NBA tried to do it with their Vegas tournament, but they make so much money. I'm not sure how much that would matter.
Starting point is 00:42:04 But for a college kid, if Loyola, Maryland could have made a million dollars to make the final four, how much cooler would that have been for those kids? Do you think this is the beginning of that happening? Maybe. I mean, I'm just thinking out loud here, Drew, but I just think that's a way for college basketball to kind of carve its own unique, interesting thing. I really like that idea with the conference tournaments, too. I noticed this morning when I pulled up to schedule for all the games today, it's the ACC tournament presented by T.Rowe Price.
Starting point is 00:42:33 It's the Phillips 66 Big 12. The money is in those tournaments, is what I'm saying. There's enough of a pot to take care of the players. You want to get these games to play in bowl games? Right? There's a prize for winning the bowl games. They're not going to skip it if they can win a game and get X amount of money. I mean, the top ones might, but most of them won't.
Starting point is 00:42:51 Most of them won't. Because they'll want to try to make that happen. So it's just a thought that occurred to me when I saw. this quickly who's next shannon kyle kyle go ahead kyle yeah i was thinking about the s tt tournament and i think this year in particular it matters more that we win that thing than previous years we just need some solid momentum we've been up and down all season long and so it's really important for us to win for that reason also as a kentucky fan who grew up in middle tennessee i want us to play tennessee and beat them by 30 beat the snot out of them how i totally agree with you i hate to cut you
Starting point is 00:43:24 if I got to go, we got to end the show, but beaten Tennessee in Nashville for the SEC tournament, we would get the tiebreaker on the season would be absolutely awesome.
