Starting point is 00:00:00 Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and Friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter.

This is Kentucky Sports Radio here live in Leroux County, Hodginville, Kentucky. An absolutely beautiful day here in Leroo County at Leroo County High School. The band is in full effect, ready to go, and we are here for a great show. Thank you all very much for coming out. You can give us a shout on the Clark's pick a popping, pumping shop phone number 859-2-80277.
Starting point is 00:02:41 A-Visian auto-glass text machine. Give them a big round of applause. 772-745254. And this edition is sponsored by the T.J. Smith Law, us you call T.J. He'll make them pay. LaRue County Band, Ryan Lemon, bringing it here early this morning. You know, the kids that go to school here, I think it's a free day that can come out. We'll educate them, you know, out here in the store.
Starting point is 00:03:01 So, thank you for coming up. I don't know how many regular listeners we have in the LaRue County band, but you're out of school, and we really appreciate you coming over. And you sound great, by the way. You sound great. It sounds absolutely great. We are here at the LaRue County High School Championship campaign. It's the Community Hawks Athletic Modernization Partnership on the way to the SEC tournament. Right here with us, behind us is the football field and the track around the place, and they are doing a renovation project, and we are here to help highlight it. Ryan Lemon, you know some more about it than I.
Starting point is 00:03:36 What do you give us a little knowledge. Yeah, they've tried to get some state funding, having some trouble so they had to go to private campaign to try to raise this money. They've not been able to have a home track and field meet here in like five years because of the facility. So I've got to redo the track, redo the field, redo the stadium, and we're here to help them
Starting point is 00:03:52 kind of get some more private funds for the program. Yes, so if you go to laru. com slash champ, that's a lot of letters. through.k.kw.kwiskools.us. Dot us slash champ and click give. You can learn more. But this is a nice town, nice community, and they're hoping to rebuild their
Starting point is 00:04:11 stadium and their track. They've got a lot of alumni here, some students as well. So thank you all very much for having us. And we are on our way to the SEC tournament. Nice shoes, my man. We are on our way to the SEC tournament in Nashville. It was four years ago today, Drew, that we were
Starting point is 00:04:26 in Nashville sitting in a conference room when we got words that the SEC tournament would be canceled. The governor came and joined us and basically said the state and the country were going to be postponed for a while. And then Shannon stole all the SEC sanitizer. It all happened on the exact same day four years ago today. Nobody would care one bit if you took hand sanitizer now, right?
Starting point is 00:04:52 But back then that was a hot commodity. That was a big tub of hand sanitizer. I was just trying to protect my friends from getting COVID. For people who don't know, the conference athletic directors were meeting in a conference room right next to the conference room where we were doing the show. And they were meeting whether or not to cancel the SEC tournament, whether or not to take all of their teams that were playing baseball, softball, et cetera, all over the country, bring them back home and trying to figure out what to do. And Shannon went out, you may not remember, you know, first they told us we're all going to get COVID from our hand sanitizer, or from, from, like countertops. Remember when there was a big run on hand sanitizer?
Starting point is 00:05:33 I would like to have owned hand sanitizer stock at the time. Shannon just decided, you know, we didn't know what was going to happen to save us. He had to steal all the SEC athletic directors hand sanitized. Not all he had to. Worked capes, right? I mean, I was trying to help you guys out a little bit. I do remember you stumbling into that room and coming out like, oh, I went in the wrong room, but you were also holding a Costco-sized bottle that you left that room with.
Starting point is 00:05:57 So we appreciated that. So I remember thinking that if Mitch Barnhart and the other athletic directors all ended up in a bad spot, it would have been your fault. That's right. Turns out that wasn't the main way things were passed, so it ended up okay. But we are just, I guess what? How far is Nashville? Hour and a half? Two hours.
Starting point is 00:06:14 Two hours from here for the SEC tournament. And Ryan, I think for the first time really to me since that day four years ago, I was thinking about this on the drive. For the first time in four years, I feel. feel like this is the march i've been waiting for since then i mean you know two years ago we made the tournament loss of st peters i thought they'd do better than beat in st peters but i didn't think they were going to win it last year i was not confident at all for the first time since pre-covid i feel like going to nashville this is what we're waiting for as kentucky fans yep they're playing as good as anybody in the country right now the crowds at rup are a good indicator
Starting point is 00:06:56 what the public, our fans feel about this team. Our crowds at KS. Bar are a good indicator what the fans feel about this team. I think Nashville will be crazy this weekend with UK fans. I do too. You know, I said to you all, I made a mistake, which is the mistake I got to start remembering, Drew. Make my reservations before I tell everybody about it. So just two days I was on there because we have an apartment, but I, for a couple nights, the nights were doing the show, I'm getting a hotel.
Starting point is 00:07:23 And two nights ago, tons of hotels. I couldn't believe how many hotels there were and how cheap they were. Last night I got on to get them. I think I got the last room in downtown Nashville. Like now you're going to have to go stay at the airport. Like because it was almost like in the last 48 hours Nashville got bought up. And I think, Drew, that's Kentucky fans who now know when they're playing, getting down there to watch it. I think there's a lot of excitement that just keeps growing.
Starting point is 00:07:50 Like you said, it just feels like this is the one. Even when I was leaving this morning, Abby's like when you're coming back? I said late Sunday night this time. No Friday, no Saturday. I'm coming home with confetti in my hair because we mean business on this one. And then I expect the next tournament will be a little bit longer than it's been in the past, too. With the way they've been playing lately with winning at Tennessee, it feels like there's a little magic with having DJ Wagner and Reed Shepard on this team with their long history,
Starting point is 00:08:15 with Cal on the fan base. It just feels like this is the time. And just look, I mean, here we are. Look at how many people right now are wearing blue. How many people now, I guess LaRue County shirts are blue too. You know what? But don't let down. I'm on a row.
Starting point is 00:08:26 roll here. Don't screw me up. All right, but it does look like people sort of, that excitement is on it. And then you look at the bracket. There's an, I mean, I don't say an easy path, but I mean, you're basically looking, Ole Miss or A&M, then Alabama, then Tennessee or Auburn. You've beaten all those teams at some point this year. Shannon, why can't you do it again? Yeah, I think you've got to feel confident about it right now. Kentucky's the hottest team probably in college basketball. And they're right there with them. Yeah, they got a ton of momentum and going to the SEC tournament. It's time that Kentucky reclaims the SEC tournament, right?
Starting point is 00:09:02 I mean, they've won it how many times now? 32. 32, and I think the last, the next closest team has like four. Yeah, so it's time for Kentucky to reclaim the tournament. I feel like this is the year. And it's been a number, you know, one of my complaints earlier in the year was take the last seven SEC regular seasons and the last six SEC tournaments, and we've only won one of each. and Alabama, Tennessee, and Auburn have won more than us.
Starting point is 00:09:29 Three best teams besides us, Ryan, Alabama, Tennessee, and Auburn. It is now our time, not our chance, our time to go back and actually beat them. Yeah, that's a good way to put it. It's our time to retake over the Southeastern Conference, regular season and the tournament. Man, they're playing so well last night. Take out that flute game at LSU. They should be on an eight-game winning street going into the tournament with a great draw that you could end up in the championship game for the first time in six years.
Starting point is 00:09:54 So we're here in LaRue County. Let's talk a little bit about LaRue County. It is Hodginville, which people say I mispronounced yesterday. I think you guys should just change the name of the city and put a K in it because it would have been easier for me to pronounce. Birthplace of Abraham Lincoln. So everybody always says, Abraham Lincoln did this. Abraham Lincoln, this is the one place where Abraham Lincoln actually was born is here in LaRue County. So the rest of the haters can shut up.
Starting point is 00:10:21 We have 49 counties that claim Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln, this is the one that gets him. And I want to say when Ryan and I pulled into town, I love the statue there at the roundabout in the middle of town. They definitely get to claim Abraham Lincoln. This is the one. Are we sure he was born here? Like, do we have any pictures?
Starting point is 00:10:38 Like, was he born in that building over there? Do we really know? Because a lot of people say this. I feel like when I did my book, don't you all have two Abraham Lincoln birthplaces? No. Could be born. She says yes. He says no.
Starting point is 00:10:51 Like, is it what? birthplace and childhood home because I remember I was allowed to move. You have this one place that's really nice, right? But then that's not the real place, right? Or is it? Replica. Oh, no, they're admitting to be in a replica. Yeah, there's a replica.
Starting point is 00:11:09 That's what I thought. There's a replica and then there's a real one because I think I went to the wrong one. It's still real to me. Yes, but either way, this is the place. Now, I like they gave us a little description. And it says LaRue County is building a basketball dynasty. Yes, they are. They are at this high school.
Starting point is 00:11:27 This year they subbed five freshmen in and out, and they're stacked with young talent for the future. That's very cool, which is consistent with a lot of places around this state that you don't normally think of as producing athletes are doing it right now. They really are. They played in the Lexington Catholic tournament this year because Will Harris played at Lexington Catholic. His son plays down here at LaRue County. They had Douglas beat. They should have beat Douglas. Douglas won at the very final seconds, and they played one senior and like all sophomores and freshmen.
Starting point is 00:11:56 They're really good. There's young talent all over this school. And that's part of the reason they're doing this renovation product. They want to make the facilities upgraded to the talent and the school. And speaking of that, last night, it's worth noting there were regional tournaments all over. And this may be Drew Franklin, the most wide open Boy Suite 16 that we've ever seen. First of all, shot at the buzzer, banked in three at the buzzer. You were at the game where Great Crossing beats Lexington Catholic.
Starting point is 00:12:28 The number one team in the country and the number, or not in the state, and the number two team in the state, play each other in the regional final, and Great Crossing wins on a banked in three at the buzzer. It's the biggest high school basketball crowd in Lexington I've seen in 25 years, and I've been going for 25 years. It was unbelievable, they were five, six people deep standing in the corner all around the stadium. It was. Cal was there?
Starting point is 00:12:49 Kyle was there. Orlando Antigua was there. Scotty Davenport. Rocky Atkins was there. Rocky Atkins was there. Yeah, Catholic had a three-point lead and the ball with 45 seconds left and got beat on the last second three-pointer. But here's what's even more interesting to me. Although great crossing, it's first time they've been in the Sweet 16, but that school's only existed for a few years. How about for the first time in the 100-year history of the school, McLaughin County's going to the Sweet 16? How about the fact Spencer County for 85 years has existed as a high school going for the first time? Butler County existed for 85 years going for the first time. A bunch of schools that have never been who've been schools for a long time will be going to the Sweet 16 for the very first time.
Starting point is 00:13:34 I saw a video of Butler County. I mean, it looks like Rupp Arena in there for that game. I mean, Ryan now we're talking on the way here. High school basketball in Kentucky is all the way back. This has already been a fun couple weeks of region. tournaments it's going to be a great field don't forget campbell county they had a buzzer beater last night it's a bunched dead singing had a couple buzzer beaters last night so already some wild finishes and we're not even to the main event i believe i'm right about this is spencer
Starting point is 00:13:57 county is that taylor'sville yes is that right i was in taylor'sville again working on my book and i remember in every county you know you try to like make small talk with people and uh spencer county was one of the harder ones i could find to have something to write about i was on my last couple before I finished the book and I was struggling. And I went up to a guy and I was like, hey, what can you tell me about Spencer County? And he was like, I don't know. And I go, well, you know. Good answer.
Starting point is 00:14:25 I don't know if I can just write. I don't know. I was like, well, are you all, you've been good in any sports? And he just looked me right in the eye and go, we suck at everything. And I thought about that yesterday when I saw they made the Sweet 16 and I go, they don't suck it everything. They're going Drew Franklin to the Sweet. I think you should go follow up with that guy.
Starting point is 00:14:43 See how his attitude is. Let them know. You know, coincidentally, Spencer County is the county we quit doing our county rundown. We stopped at Spencer County. That's right. They get no respect. I'll tell you what, we'll do one for the boys' sweet 16. Let's do it.
Starting point is 00:14:56 There we go. Spencer County, Shannon, since they made the Sweet 16, I will give them their rundown. Spencer County was in our district when I played at Bullitt East. I guess they still are. They sucked back then, so the guy wasn't wrong. That's pretty harsh. Well, congrats to them for making the Sweet. The Girls Sweet 16 starts today.
Starting point is 00:15:14 We'll be talking more about it. Anybody here going to the SEC tournament going down to Nashville? Look, you got three people making the trip. Well, the rest of you... That kid's going by himself. He raised his hand. No one else did. You going by yourself?
Starting point is 00:15:27 You want to drive it down? I thought he was going down. I don't have enough space in my back seat, but you can ride with Ryan if you want to get down there. We'll take a break. We are here at Lerue County High School, Hodginville, Kentucky, and be right back. This is Kentucky Sports. Back here, Kentucky Sports Radio. live at La Rue County High School.
Starting point is 00:15:52 We are live. It's a beautiful day. A little chilly, but then we are here on a nice day. Great crowd. The Lurroo County Band continuing to give us intros. See, we're able to do this by playing with the band. It actually satisfies our rules, and we're able to do it here. Keep it on the podcast.
Starting point is 00:16:10 That's right. Yeah, it's nice to be able to have music. Nice to have music. I know we can't sit in silence when they give us a performance there. I mean, I know they're going to do six more, but still, nevertheless, I can't just sit there in silence. It's, though, high school band just sounds so cool. They're at the football game or in the gym, and they just sound so cool. So, I mean, by the way, part of the reason we're here is to help raise awareness of the issue here.
Starting point is 00:16:36 This is a nice high school, a nice town, but these facilities do need repair. You can see it on the football field. You can see it on the track, and they are trying to raise money. They have a donor who has done. donated quite a lot of money, but they want it to also be matched. So if you'd like to help a small high school that has a hard time getting their athletic funds as needed, the LaRue County High School is doing that. Remember, this is where Cutter Bowley started, was down at this high school as well, and he'll be the next UK quarterback. You know, Casey Clark, our buddy was telling
Starting point is 00:17:10 me, like 50% of the teachers here at the school went to this school. This is one of those communities, you know, the kids, people they just stay here giving back as a big part of what they do here at LaRue County. And I can tell you this, they have Hinton's Orchard here that made Apple turnovers, and they are awesome. I didn't know I was going to eat that, or I wouldn't have stopped at McDonald's. Actually, I probably would have anyway, but nevertheless, it is still very good. I'm looking forward to putting those in our SEC tournament house, any of them in the rest of the week. There's a lot of those in there. Should be going with us. 859-280-2287. One person writes, Matt, how can you get through the whole first segment without
Starting point is 00:17:42 talking about what I want to know, which is what about Michael Bennett? Well, I'll just still alive. I'm happy to report. Yes. I mean, it's the only topic anybody wanted to talk to me about yesterday. He's alive? That's good. But for people who didn't hear the first hour yesterday, you there won't be anything like that again, I hope, during the show. I hope not. I called him five times yesterday just to make sure he was still alive. And that is, man, like I was saying on the pre-show, they need to make like a Netflix docu-series on this thing. It's one of the most mysterious things ever. Like, what could it have been? What actually did have? happen in that 30-minute segment.
Starting point is 00:18:21 Well, it's difficult because for people, all right, so some of you all here, you know, are here like the students up there who maybe not be regular listeners. You know, we had, we heard yesterday at 1015 that one of our friends, former HUP radio host, had passed away. It was on his Twitter account. They wrote a long, like a long, I don't know, obituary of him. And then we found out 15 minutes later, he was. he was still alive.
Starting point is 00:18:52 I wish we would have had that moment when I said to you guys off the air, you're not going to believe this. No, yeah, Shannon goes, yeah. By the way, he's still alive. Yeah, they go, what? And then you got, like, you know, to just talk behind the scenes a little bit. Okay, so just think about these two things. First of all, think about you find out, what, 45 seconds before we come back on the air that he's died.
Starting point is 00:19:14 And that 45 seconds is coming. Like, you can't, you know, I mean, you can't. can't just go, no. I remember we found out Jared Lorenzen died, what, 45 minutes before hey, Kentucky. Yeah. And we had to just do the show. Well, that's 45 minutes, 45 seconds, you know, and then I can tell Shannon's emotional. And I'm like, hey, man, what do you want to do?
Starting point is 00:19:36 Yeah. Like, do you want to, because you can't really walk away because you're the one that brings the show on the air. Running the show, you have to just deal with it. You're close to him, so we're sitting there trying to. So then we come on, we say it. There's still five minutes left in the segment, so we got a transition to talk about something. And then during the break, well, he's not, he's alive. So what do we say?
Starting point is 00:19:59 Like, do we go back on the air and say he's alive? We've already reported that he's dead. We've only reported that he's dead. So we can't not say he's alive. But then, of course, that leads to what happens, what happened? We still don't really know what happened. No, claims that he was hacked. Here's my thought.
Starting point is 00:20:15 Like, what if I didn't text him during that break? we may still think that he was dead because if I didn't text him it would have gotten cleared up well I mean unless he went to his social media I'm talking about like okay what about those two hours let's say he doesn't check his social media and doesn't go on there and clear it up with everybody if I don't text him we still think he's dead look I'm I'm really glad he's alive so just to make sure that's clear but then he goes back on the online says I'm alive but leaves up the dead tweet He wasn't in a hurry to correct it. I think he liked being dead there for a little bit.
Starting point is 00:20:49 The follow-up tweet, may his memory be a blessing to his family, friends during this difficult time. It's still up. Yeah. I think part of him likes being dead a little better. They take that down. Yeah, he left up. Part of his obituary is still there. It's still there.
Starting point is 00:21:04 One button could delete that. But you did talk to it. Yes. Do you sure it wasn't AI, Michael? I think it was him. I mean, I didn't actually meet him in person. I don't know what happened. I really don't know.
Starting point is 00:21:17 I said, listen, man, like, don't lie to me. Tell me you didn't just do that as some sort of joke. Well, I know you did die. You didn't do this as a joke. And he said, no, I did not do this. I promise you. So I don't know how you're explained. So here's what I was trying to think last night.
Starting point is 00:21:33 It's tough because we know the guy. But, you know, let's say this was Kate Middleton. Yeah. We would all spin the show trying to decipher what happened. But it's weird to do that with somebody we know, right? Yeah. So, you know, so I don't know. Dee, what do you think?
Starting point is 00:21:53 It was tough yesterday, man. I mean, it's weird to talk about it. Look, and it's also weird to talk about it with you all. Like, everybody's like, I don't know. Like, nobody wants to say the wrong thing, but it's just, it's objectively strange. It's like that one media member that sent a tweet in the middle of the night when we were at the NCAA tournament. Go to bed, Cheryl. Go to bed, Cheryl.
Starting point is 00:22:14 There was a media member one time from UK who at 2 o'clock in the morning just tweeted, go to bed, Cheryl. And Shannon decided to just keep responding as if he was Cheryl. Well, I did a poll. I said, should Cheryl go to bed? Yes or no. The majority of people said she should go to bed. And then all of a sudden the next day, the go to bed Cheryl tweet was gone.
Starting point is 00:22:35 And it still remains one in mystery for a long time. But this tops that by far. This is the weirdest thing. Ever. This is one of the weirdest things. ever seen because objectively, I'm not saying he didn't get hacked. I would never say that. But if he was hacked, how was he able to log right back on and say he was alive? Unless somebody else had his login information, maybe he was hacked that way.
Starting point is 00:23:02 But the obituary read like someone who knew him and cared about it. Like it was a very nice little obituent. Yeah. Right? Yeah. And it shook us. I mean, we were all shook. We got to do live radio, I had to talk about it.
Starting point is 00:23:16 I mean, he's definitely leading candidate for comeback player of the year. What's it is? No doubt. Easter came early. But he's risen. Stop, it. Easter came early. Well, I mean, I don't know what to make of it.
Starting point is 00:23:32 Like, you and I talked last night. I still don't know what to make of it either. It's still one of the stranger things that I can remember. But I'm glad he's alive. Yep. And go cats. Who's up next? Got Derek up next.
Starting point is 00:23:45 Derek, I got about a minute. Go ahead. Wow. Okay, Matt, I called in Monday and gave you three names for you. Case next basketball coach, and my buddy Bob up in North Kentucky works for the IRS. He was a book podcast. He said, wow, Matt was kind of rude to you. And of the three names I gave you, two of them have interest in the job.
Starting point is 00:24:08 So I know. Okay, again, how do you know they have interest in the job? Well, well, your riot is for KSR even posted that you boy down the road, Jeff Walls is interested in John. Yeah, well, look, if it ends up being Jeff Walls, I'll apologize to you. If it ends up being Matthew Mitchell, then I think that surprises even one of his best friends. And if you knew more than one of his best friends, then more luck to you, then you must be the smartest guy. If it ends up being Jeff Walls, then I'll say I was wrong. I'll just remind you.
Starting point is 00:24:41 Ain't none of those people been hired yet, so let's wait and see what happens. Appreciate it, Dave. There go. I will say, though, on the Matthew Mitchell thing, there's smoke there, for sure, and we'll see what happens. But who knows whether it's a good choice or not, but we'll see what happens. We'll take a break and be right back here at Leroux County High School. This is Kentucky Sports Radio. All right.
Starting point is 00:25:24 Rick, are you there? I'm here. Are we going? We are going. All right, I didn't hear it. You. Welcome back, Kentucky Sports Radio. Air Live. Rick, you got to speak up a little bit louder than that for me to hear you, all right?
Starting point is 00:25:39 Okay. Okay. All right, okay. We're here at LaRue County High School. Great, awesome crowd here in LaRue County, Hodgiville showing up. How many of you guys that are down here, I know the students up there have, how many of you went to LaRue County? Raise your hand. Look at that. Wow.
Starting point is 00:25:58 That's awesome. I love that about a small town. Yep. And it is very cool. 859-2-80-2287. Text Machine, 772-7-7-4-5-254. One person writes on text-machine, Matt. Each of you, percentage chance we win the SEC tournament.
Starting point is 00:26:14 Percentage chance we win the NCAA tournament. All right, let's start with the SEC tournament. Riding, percentage chance we win the SEC tournament. They are 4-1 on draft kicks. I was going to say 70%. 70%. Yes, love the attitude. With the draw they got.
Starting point is 00:26:33 70%. I feel like that's low. As good as they're playing with the draw. Well, then you're going to bet that on draft king's, right? I absolutely will bet that then, yes. Oh, well, if you think it's 70%, you definitely should. Okay, what about you should? I was going to say 75%.
Starting point is 00:26:46 You think his is high. Wow. So what do you think? What your confidence level? Well, let me go Drew next. I don't want to speak. I was going to say about 35, 40? I mean, if they play Tennessee on Sunday, it's a point flip to me.
Starting point is 00:27:01 Yeah, so everybody that's saying 35 or 40, okay, let me just play with you, Ryan. That's what I like to say. All right, so let's do, let's just do what percentage chance we beat Texas A&M or Old Miss? I'd say it's pretty high, I'll be 85, 90%. Okay, so let's just say you say 85. Okay. Then what percentage chance we beat Alabama?
Starting point is 00:27:24 I'd say it's still pretty high. We'd beat them, we ran them off the court at Rup Arena. I'd say another 70%. So you, you'd say, you. You've now given them the same percent chance of beating Alabama that you have them winning the whole tournament. Yeah, I think that's a great math way to do it. Kids don't learn your math. So what's the percentage chance we beat Tennessee in the finals?
Starting point is 00:27:46 I'm going to say we just beat them and we're the better team. That's another 65%. So your chance of winning one game is less than your chance of winning the whole tournament? Because I don't know if Tennessee will make it. Okay, so what's our chance to be in Auburn? We'll beat Auburn. 75%. That's not how that matters. I think we're going to win it. I feel like I'm a terrible fan for being so low.
Starting point is 00:28:09 I was trying to be realistic. All right. Let me just say what. So mine's like 33. Okay. Because I'm with you. I think if we play Tennessee, it's a toss-up. Yeah. If we play, I think we're favored against Auburner, Alabama. I think we beat Texas A&M or Old Miss eight out of nine out of ten. But you multiply all those together, and we're looking at 30.
Starting point is 00:28:31 to 33%, which is where I'll put. I was looking at it a little bit differently. I was looking at, like, if we play this tournament four times, we're going to win it three times that way, like that percentage. But that's high. But you break it down by the game, it does feel high. It's high. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:28:46 So, all right, but nevertheless, I'm going to let you stick with it. You're going 75. They're winning it. We're cutting. You were 70, 75. You were 35. But I will like to add, I bet the 4 to 1 right away. I'm still confident.
Starting point is 00:28:59 I was just trying to do some realistic math. I do not encourage gambling children. None of you all are not 18. That is against the law. But if it were, if you were an adult and do it, I actually don't mind four to one at all. Now, NCAA tournament. How many tournaments would you have to play before Kentucky wins what? Man.
Starting point is 00:29:18 Because we're 22 to 1. So if that number is less than 22, you ought to bet them. 15? 15. So you have, so that would put it as you have a set like a 1, like a 7.5% chance of winning the tournament. That's what my math says, yes. Okay. What about you, Sheff? I guess I'm going to be pessimistic on this because I would say maybe around 10% chance. Well, that's 1 in 10. That's better than him. I thought you said 15. He said 7. He said 1 out of 50.
Starting point is 00:29:47 Okay, okay. So 10, yeah. All right, so you're more optimistic. What about you? 5%. One out of 20. Yep. And I also bet it at 22 to 1. I actually am kind of with you. Yeah. I'm about 7. I'd say 1 out of 15. I think we've got, and again, it's not because, you know, there's just a lot of randomness to it. But I like, now, I will say a lot of it to me is about the bracket. If we get the bracket we got today where you'd have to beat North Carolina in the Sweet 16 and then Connecticut and the elite eight in Boston. I don't like that bracket, Drew.
Starting point is 00:30:19 That's not what I want. But you give me like Purdue, Marquette, and Wisconsin, I like that one. Kentucky is as hot as any team in the country right now. I wouldn't pick anyone over them. but I will say Yukon in Boston is a situation I would prefer to avoid. That and maybe a rematch with North Carolina, which unfortunately in the current ESPN Bracketology, we are one, two there. But other than that, bring on anybody.
Starting point is 00:30:44 I mean, you got to beat somebody good. I just would hate having to play them kind of in a home game up there in Boston. Is the only request I have. I have a question for you. I want you to think about this. One of the governors of our 50 states went and got veneers. Okay, nothing against that, right? Nothing against that.
Starting point is 00:31:03 But in exchange for the veneers, they did a commercial for the company that gave them the veneers. Basically said, this place is the best place to get your veneers. Look at mine and see it, and she's got a big smile. Yeah. It's raising a debate. Should governors be able to do ads for companies while they're governor? And they would presumably be paid off in her case by the veneers, but you also could get money.
Starting point is 00:31:32 Should you be able to do advertisements? I've never heard of a politician doing this, so I never really thought about it. Do you think governors or senators or presidents or state reps? Should you be able to do advertisement as a paid spokesman while you are governor? I guess I look at that as no different than just any other influencer, athlete that's out there that's doing the same thing. So why wouldn't you if you were a company?
Starting point is 00:31:57 Okay, so you say yes. Yeah. What about you? I say no. They already make enough that we don't know about. They don't need to do more on Instagram. All right. What about you? You know, all of us make money from endorsements. I'm kind of pro endorsement. I'd say, go for it, man. If somebody's going to pay you to do it, go for it.
Starting point is 00:32:15 Well, I couldn't, didn't believe to you. I'm on Drew's side. I don't just think about this. Let's say you, right, so let me ask you a question. Let's say you own a road construction company. And you want the governor to make it to wear on every road construction, you use their company. Well, it's illegal to bribe them. But if you can pay them as an endorser,
Starting point is 00:32:38 wouldn't that just be like bribing them? Wouldn't you just be sitting there saying, if I can pay you as an endorser, it gives me a way to pay you off for anything? Exactly. I guess. I mean, but I mean, they're just an influence. I look at it the same way as I said.
Starting point is 00:32:53 Like as an athlete, they get paid to. But it's bribing them. I don't see a problem. with it. You're good with bribery. I guess I don't see a problem with it. I don't know. You don't see a problem with bribery. I don't see a problem with the governor getting exchange. If this person owned a business, let's say you right here in the front, and you gave Andy Beshear a million dollars to do what you wanted, you and Andy would go to prison, but could you give him a million dollars to advertise your company with the wink, wink knowledge that, hey, I gave
Starting point is 00:33:29 you a million dollars do what i ask and you're good with that i'm fine with that he's not going to influence me either way like i'm not going to go out and okay yeah i think the difference there is if you're an athlete you can't then go change laws and you know actually do things that what about you well would the governor have to get approval from the board the governor does a ton of stuff where they and people i'm sure some of you do work where you work on a project and the state decides who gets the contract and who doesn't so if that's the case can he still endorse people if the state i'm asking you to decide i'm up i'm thumbs up for it go for it governor bershear get that million dollar paving get those nice when you see why things happen just
Starting point is 00:34:12 think of the two of them with that answer that's right just think of the two of them with that answer who's up next enjoy your teeth unbelievable yeah i thought this was going to be a slam dunk four oh no but i guess not go ahead joshua is up next joshua go ahead joshua go ahead joshua are you guys doing doing good I just wanted to call real quick and say I love the team going into the SEC tournament and in the NCAA tournament proud of I'm from Butler County and proud of us for winning the third region championship and so how yeah how exciting for your county never made it to state before you had like 2,000 people at the how many people even live in Butler County I think every citizen in Butler County was at the game, actually.
Starting point is 00:35:00 I mean, that's crazy. It's not a very big county, and it was absolutely packed. Go ahead. Oh, no. I mean, it was, it was, I went out and watched the little victory parade coming back in, and I mean, it was a line from the courthouse all the way down to the high school. Everybody showed out. Everybody was very excited.
Starting point is 00:35:17 Very, very cool. Well, congratulations. Thank you very much. Thank you. Thank you. Appreciate it. Hey, clear cut, focus. hero drink. It's the first of its kind of hydration drink. Now, I'm not governor, so I can read this.
Starting point is 00:35:30 Great taste, balance electrolytes, no artificial ingredients. They got the, they got flavors, Shannon, like Nova Orange. Yes. You like Nexus Cosmic Blue? I had a blue in yesterday. That's right. At Apex Fruit Punch, their flavors, they're out of this world. You can get them at Amazon or on your local Kroger. It's a Kentucky-based company, Clear Cut Hero sports drink. Try that now with clear-cut hero. Some breaking news here. And these are the kids. You guys, this affects you all more than anybody.
Starting point is 00:36:02 The U.S. House of Representatives has passed a law that gives six months for the company to sell the majority interest in TikTok or have it banned in the United States. 350 to 60 was the bet, was the vote. Pretty unanimous. So we'll see what happens. Maybe no more TikTok. We'll take a break and be right back. This is Kentucky Sports Radio. Welcome back here.
Starting point is 00:36:29 It is Kentucky Sports Radio live at LaRue County High School. We had a little bit of an early intro there a second ago while we were off the air. So we got to hear the band twice in. That's right. It's sounding great. They got a great band. There's no doubt about it. Thank you guys very much.
Starting point is 00:36:46 So 859-28027, the Kenny Payne era just ended 30 minutes ago. Jeff Goodman reporting that Louisville and Kenny Payne entered a buyout. So Louisville will have a head coaching job. Last night, the Louisville media was all fighting with each other online and about who it was going to be. They have convinced themselves, Ryan Lemon, they're going to get Scott Drew of Baylor. I'm not as convinced about that,
Starting point is 00:37:12 but they are convinced they get Scott Drew of Baylor. What if that ends up being the coach? You know, we've talked about it. I mean, Scott Drew is in a good situation right now of Baylor. They've been good. He's got a good program. They've been good the last several years. They can make a big run this year.
Starting point is 00:37:25 You're coming back to a team that's going to be in the dumpster fire. all the players he had this year are going to leave. I don't know if he wants to do that. I would also argue the ACC is a lot more unstable, Drew, than the Big 12. Yeah. Because a lot of the Big 12 kind of is what it is. A lot of the ACC teams trying to get out. Florida State, Clemson, Virginia, North Carolina, Virginia Tech, they're trying to leave the conference.
Starting point is 00:37:48 Big 12 is kind of stable as to what they are. I think, and I don't really understand why you would leave the Big 12 for the ACC right now. Go ahead and get your raise. Scott Drew, flirt with Louisville a little bit, get you a little more Baylor money. We know how this works. You might play the game a little bit, see if you can get a new deal in Texas. Louisville, I've heard Jay Wright, Billy Donovan. It's so funny with the list they have. It's the dream list. I love when they say Jay Wright. Like, why would you take a life of retirement and doing television, Shannon, to go to Louisville and have to deal with that? Well, you wouldn't. Why would you do that? And that's not going to happen. That's a pipe dream for them. They could have Jerry Stackhouse if they want them.
Starting point is 00:38:27 We'll gladly give him from Vanderbilt to Lowell if you want him. Who else, though? You said Billy Donovan, who else? I think the most likely scenario to me, if you made me guess, if they want a name coach, is going to be like Chris Mussel. Otherwise, I think they're going to end up with a dude like Dusty May or something like that. I think these big-name names they want are unlikely to come. I want Mick Cronin.
Starting point is 00:38:52 That would be perfect. I think actually Mick Cronin is somebody. that could end up there. And Cal would hate him. I think that would be a fun thing. We just met one of these players here. Yeah. Daniel Allen, he was the senior star of their basketball team this year. Going to go play at Thomas Moore College. So scholarship athletes and other big, big strong kid. I saw him play against Douglas. He's really good. Anytime you want one-on-one, Daniel, I got you. Just you just bring it on. My money's on Daniel. I'm wearing my bad buddies today. They'll hop right over you and dunk in your
Starting point is 00:39:21 face just so you know. I mean, I can't do it today. I got things to do. but just in theory, I want you to know that that would be somewhat happen. Who's up next? Got Casey up next. Casey, go ahead, Casey. Hey, good morning, fellas. I'm so excited for this tournament coming up. It's going to be so awesome.
Starting point is 00:39:41 I'm going to watch from the bar. I just want to encourage everybody to go to watch Alice Blue Gunn and stuff. Be loud and proud because we're back and we're having a wind of the same thing. I'm so excited. You all have safe travels and go get. Yeah, I appreciate it. Appreciate the call. Shannon's band will play in Nashville tomorrow at 5.30 at 10 roof on Broadway. You're excited to make your Broadway debut.
Starting point is 00:40:03 You know, think about all the stars that have been on Broadway. You know, Garth Brooks, Johnny Cash, Whalen Jennings, Hank, and all these stars. And now you get to get out there and rocking your little hat. That's right. You know, we played Nashville last year, but to be on Broadway is kind of cool, right? That's a broad way. That's right. So we're looking forward to it and should be a good crowd.
Starting point is 00:40:23 So come on out. steps from the grand old opera, Drew Franklin. I'm looking forward to that. You know, I'm very excited. We got that double by so we can enjoy our Thursday. Then Shannon throws a concert in the middle of it. That's lining up to be a fun little night. Did any of you last night see the little kid that was on the sidelines with Charleston?
Starting point is 00:40:41 Did anybody see that? So Charleston has their basketball coach has like a seven or eight-year-old kid. And he sits on the end of the bitch. and when he's nervous the whole game. But when they do something well, he gets up and he taunts the players. He looked at one of the guys, one of the kids, one of the players on the other team was complaining about a foul, and he looked at the guy and went, and he's like seven or eight years old. And when like they make a big basket, he starts pumping his fist.
Starting point is 00:41:16 He ran out on the floor. One of the players had to go pick him up and bring him back to the same. That's horrible sportsmanship. If I were the referee, I would tee that little kid up. Get them out of here. You can't be doing that. If a player or a coach does that, you get teed up. They won their tournament.
Starting point is 00:41:31 They're making the NCAA tournament. You remember I said this. He's going to be a star of the NCAA tournament. If they let that kid sit on the bench, he is going to be a star of the NCAA tournament. I don't know his name, but he's this little, like, blonde kid, seven or eight years old. He is showing up on one shoddy moment, Drew, wait. and see. I've seen clips of him and I love it, but I'm kind of surprised he's allowed to be down there the way he is because he's really getting into the game. You would think he was a paid
Starting point is 00:42:00 assistant the way he's getting into these games. They hit a three that kind of like, they hit a three that basically like made it to where the game was over and he went nuts. Like he was he was, he was pumping his fist. He was running around the bench and screaming. I'm like you, Drew, I can't believe they let him get that close. I think maybe other coaches will start doing it. I have like grown children sitting on the bench with him now knowing that you can do it with this guy having his son out there he is going to talk all the trash in the world just wait and see who's up next kyle is up next kyle go ahead kyle hey guys hey uh i'm calling about that mike story um that's crazy but on a serious note i just wanted to say i know shannon has talked to him a little bit and sounds like he's okay
Starting point is 00:42:44 but you know a lot of times when people are thinking about taking their own lives they'll put something on social media they'll leave a note you know they'll be warning time i don't want to say that i don't want to say that we don't we don't i want to be very careful about that you know speculating stuff like that i don't think that's fair to well i'm just saying that that shannon should reach back out and just make sure 100% that he's okay and there's nothing like that going on i've done everything i can do to him to him many times so i i i i i this is what makes it hard like we can't because it happened during the show we almost can't not talk about it At the same time, it's human being, so let's not, let's not, you know, let's be careful.
Starting point is 00:43:24 Who's next? Madison is up next. Madison, go ahead. How are you doing, Matt? Hope you enjoy Hodgandville. It's great. Hodgandville's been wonderful so far. I know it.
Starting point is 00:43:36 I get a couple questions of one. Who do you all think since Kenny Payne got fired? Who do you think they will hire? Literally, that was the last thing we talked about, Matt. Addison. So what's next? What's your other question? And then two, who would y'all rather see in the opening round of the SEC tournament, Texas A&M? Good question. O'M. Or A&M? Who would you rather play? Texas A&M got us. I want another shot at them. Bring on A&M.
Starting point is 00:44:05 Old Miss, because they have no chance of beating us. What do you want? Texas A&M, but it's close. I think I'd rather see A&M as well. Yeah. Yeah. So you all want revenge. Yeah. I just want to win. And I think A&M is better than Old Miss. We will take a break and come back for our number two here in Aginville, Kentucky, LaRue County with the band, the students, and the new, and the goal of raising money here for the campaign. We'll take a break.
