Here as part of the Community Hawks Athletic Modernization Partnership, a capital campaign here in LaRue County.
Starting point is 00:03:01 Thank you very much as the band continues their work. It's a beautiful day here in Hodginville, and we are helping them that you can learn more at LaRue.kyschools.us.us. slash champ. This school is a rural community, been really upgrading its athletics, and now needs to have a track and field
Starting point is 00:03:23 and a football field that is of the level of what they're trying to do here. couldn't get the money from the state. That's been a big problem in recent years and now doing it themselves and on a good path. But if you can help, if you know somebody in the La Rue County area, feel free to. And you can go to the LaRue County website. CHAMP is the name of the group, the Champ Campaign. I know it's dear to your heart, Ryan Lippon.
Starting point is 00:03:50 Yeah, I grew up in a rural school about this size. You did too, at Middlesboro. And it's tough to get that funding sometimes. I said earlier, they've not had a home track meet in like over five years here, so they need to upgrade the facilities so they can have some home events for their seniors, their players. And thank you to the band. Give them a round of applause as they have to, I guess they have to go back to class. But thank you very much to them for coming. Yes, they did. I like having that, having the band. Yeah, we got to get this facility taken care of because they do not lack passion here. You can tell when we showed up, I mean, obviously the bands here. Everybody's wearing their school colors. They deserve the best facility they can get.
Starting point is 00:04:25 So Nick Saban yesterday was on Capitol Hill to complain about NIL. He wants Congress to pass legislation, and he said at one point that college athletics is completely different now, and there'll be basically you can pay players, and he doesn't, he didn't say he was against players making money, but essentially said he did not like the way that the money is where they decide to go now. I think that was his point. and I listened to him, and I respect Nick Saban a lot. I think Nick Saban has done, had an immense amount of success. It seems like a pretty good person.
Starting point is 00:05:03 But I was listening to him, and I felt like Drew, I was listening to an old man yelling at the wind about how he wanted sports to be. He kept saying, you know, nowadays, I mean, there'll be no more parity. You can just, you can just pay people. And I was listening to him, and I was thinking, what are you talking about? Where was the parody in the last 30 years? As I was listening to it, here's exactly what I thought, and I'll see what your take is. For years and years and years, Alabama, Ohio State, George, whatever, they got all the players, every single one. They got every player because my guess is some of those schools were paying people anyway and just not telling people.
Starting point is 00:05:43 But they got every single player because they were Alabama. Now of a sudden, in the aisle comes along, and anybody can pay the play them. players. It's not like Alabama's the only people with money now. First time you have a national championship in the NIL era, Michigan and Washington. Now those are schools that didn't make it every single year. No Alabama. You look at the top recruiting classes this year. Yeah, those schools are at the top, but a dude like Brock Vandergriff decides to leave Georgia and come to Kentucky. The backup running back at Ohio State says instead of being the backup at Ohio State, maybe I'll go to Kentucky.
Starting point is 00:06:19 I think NIL actually brings more parity, and I actually think that's what Nick Sabin's upset about. Yeah, when I heard it, it was more, I mean, coaches, especially Nick Saban, made a lot of money, and these sports just keep bringing in more and more and more every year. Do the coaches just get to keep getting bigger contract? Is that what he wanted? Yes, that's exactly what they want. Because eventually, I mean, they're already making plenty.
Starting point is 00:06:42 I mean, do they just keep stacking theirs up? Is there an end for them? Explain to me. How a coach like Nick Saban, who is making 10, was making 10 or 11 million dollars a year, has the audacity to argue that his roster, which by all indications, didn't make 10 or 11 million dollars combined, that somehow that is the end of college athletics. I just think, now look, they need to find a way to regulate the system. It's kind of out of control, but I think they will.
Starting point is 00:07:16 but this argument of like, oh, no, man, now the same teams are going to win. He's won, what, six titles like the same teams won before, didn't they? Yeah, it was actually refreshing to see two different teams that aren't in the title game every single year. And, you know, he's just an old man set in his ways. And NIL is here whether you like it or not. I agree with you, they do need to regulate it to some degree. But how can you get mad about players getting paid? I do think it's a little out of control when they're saying it's not just him.
Starting point is 00:07:45 They're like, we're having meetings, and there's no. mention of football. It's just like, what's my dollar sign? Okay, but all right, so let me. Okay, so I can understand why he would say I don't want to be a part of that. NFL's going through free agency right now. How many of them are talking about the culture? They're going, where's they're getting the money? Nick Saban, if, if Alabama decided tomorrow that they were only going to pay Nick Saban $4 million and Kentucky decided they'd pay him 11, where do you think Nick Saban would coach?
Starting point is 00:08:12 Where he's going to get the most money? He would coach. So he's mad that the players are doing. and the same thing coaches have been doing from day one. Coaches from day one have gone to the highest bidder. There's a coach at Indiana State. If they win a game in the NCAA tournament, some school like Georgia is going to go pay him, and he's going to leave that culture at Indiana State to go to Georgia,
Starting point is 00:08:34 isn't he? And why is he going to do that? Money. And so he's mad that the players now are empowered the way the coaches were. And I don't, Ryan, I don't see that as a problem at all. of all the coaches he's the one guy I feel like they can't be arguing about culture and parity and parity he's the one coach that probably that argument's not going to hold a lot of weight the one thing I was saying where I can meet him on is it needs to be organized like a player coach meeting in the year shouldn't be about dollars there should be no I'm saying there should be structure that should be a conversation players having but Nick Sabin is not cut out to be doing player contracts okay well that's on Alabama I'm just saying we need some organization across the sport Alabama should hire, I got to do it.
Starting point is 00:09:18 But at the end of the year, is Nick Sabin's going to be having a conversation about his money? Yes. Of course he is. Of course he is. They want to be able to control these players, Shannon, in a way that they no longer are going to be able to do. That's what they want. They want to be able to exercise total control. And my view to the Nick Sabins of the world is, and he did this, to his credit,
Starting point is 00:09:43 if you don't want to operate in that world, you don't have to. Somebody else will. You're going to fall behind if you don't. You've got to get ahead of it. Somebody else can do it. You don't have to do it if you don't want to. The pay-for-play thing is, I think they've got to sort of get that wrangled back in. Like, if you want to go get money for your name, image-likeness, which is what it's supposed to be, not pay for play.
Starting point is 00:10:07 How are you going to wrangle that in? Like, seriously, what are you going to do? Okay, $10 million to come play for my school. What's wrong with that? I don't think that they're going to be able to do that. That's not going to be sustainable. I agree with you. But that's just capitalism.
Starting point is 00:10:21 So I own OVW. I would love for Roman Raines to come wrestle at OVW. Sure. I don't have the money for Roman Raines to wrestle. So I'm not going to pay for it. And at some point, these schools are going to decide, you know what, we're not going to keep paying for us. But that doesn't mean that the system is bad.
Starting point is 00:10:41 It just may mean they decide. not to pay for it anymore. I totally agree with you. So we now know what the fine bomb show is going to be like all day to day. You just previewed the whole fine bomb show because that's all they're going to be talking about when Savans is doing something. I just, I here's what I think NIL has done that I didn't suspect. I actually think it's given teams like us a chance. No doubt.
Starting point is 00:11:02 I agree with that. I think the change that has happened is it used to be if you were second team at Alabama, you kind of had to stay at Alabama. right now you can go to kentucky and make money and i think what bothers nick savin is he can't just stack all the talent anymore yeah because Alabama can't afford to pay everybody yeah so because of that they're now going to other schools and he's not as deep as he used to be and in my opinion drew that's what makes them mad is that they can't just have infinitely more talent than everybody else does Yeah, and I think Kentucky's in a great spot for that.
Starting point is 00:11:45 I've talked about my philosophy with Van DeGryph, Ohio State running back, Georgia linebacker. If they were good enough to be second best at that school or just a fringe superstar, they didn't get quite as much money they wanted, we will happily make you a star in Lexington if you were just on the cusp of Georgia or in Alabama or in Ohio State. Many years ago, some of you older than me will remember, used to be there was no scholarship limit, right? They could offer as many people as they wanted. and famously Nebraska would have 180 players on scholarship, right? They changed the rule kind of because Nebraska.
Starting point is 00:12:19 Nebraska would just go get everyone in the world and then get them to come. And then there was no transfer portal and you were like you had to wait a year so you were kind of just stuck at Nebraska. Then they went down from 180 to 85 and the Nebraska's of the world whined. And guess what? They're no longer good. I think why Nick Saban is whining is teams like Alabama are not going to dominate it all the time like they have in the past. Yeah, just this off-season.
Starting point is 00:12:50 If she was the season was over, Alabama had a five-star corner that was like a freshman. Like one of their top kids in their class decided to leave. He knew he was going to sit the pitch. Where did he go? I can't remember where he went. He left Alabama. I bet he went to a school that he wouldn't have gone to before in Iowa. Probably so.
Starting point is 00:13:05 Who's up next? Got Joey up next. Joey, go ahead. Hey, Matt, you've got a couple of things. First of all, you should have expected Ryan to be in favor of the public officials having endorsements because he's got to be able to keep doing his wild eggs commercials. That is the mayor of Lexington. When you're the mayor of Lexington, I still expect you to be like doing ads for wild eggs. And I have a beautiful smile. And then the other thing, I need someone to explain to me how come the net rankings are based on. how good the team is at the end of the season
Starting point is 00:13:43 because I was watching the Miami game last night. They've lost 10 games in a row now. They've been riddled with injuries. And yet we beat them when they were completely healthy. And our quad one win is now a quad four win because of all their injuries they've had after they play. Yeah, I don't totally understand how Net does their thing. I think Scott Mimpelt did a good job with showing basically how
Starting point is 00:14:07 that what Scott Mampelt showed. Drew, essentially, the net is decided before you get into conference play. So if your conference, the non-conference schedule is huge in the net, and you need to beat the teams by a lot. But I appreciate the call. We've really been heard, though, the reason we're going to be a three or four seed in part is because that Miami team that we had to play ended up stinking. That Gonzaga team, they didn't stink, but they weren't as good as they usually are. They lost again last night. And then we played a handful of teams. year in the non-conference that were just absolutely brutal.
Starting point is 00:14:45 You can say their name, Louisville. You can say Louisville. Oh, I forgot about Louisville. Yeah, they sucked. In a normal year, five years ago, you play Louisville, Miami, and Gonzaga, you've played three really good teams. And this year, they all ended up being terrible, and that really hurt our rankings. Yeah, we knew Louisville would be bad, but we thought Miami would be, you know,
Starting point is 00:15:07 one of the biggest games of the year. Cal had quite a rant on Monday about the net rankings. How you go and beat Tennessee on the road and they move from number 20 to number 19? He's like, how can you even explain that? They're your fourth best team. We beat them in their gym and we move one place. And then with the Van Pelt segment he did where some conferences are kind of exposing now, it's kind of clear it has some flaws in that system.
Starting point is 00:15:29 Yeah. And the other thing you got to remember, and we should remember this next year for the non-conference. how much you beat a team by matters. So like if you beat a team by, what's weird, and this is not good, but beating Stonehill by 40 instead of 15 matters more than beating Tennessee, which sounds ridiculous, but actually is kind of how it is, unfortunately. Makes no sense. So when you play those bad teams next year, we got to pound them.
Starting point is 00:16:02 Yep. That's bad for the walk-ons. They don't get any minutes now because we've got to beat. up on I'm going to keep our starters in at the end of the game. And when Scoop complains about these teams that are just awful, he actually has a little bit of a point. We need to play more of the ranked 200th, not ranked 300. And think about the fact that in a lot of games, you've seen this happen. We like in the last minute let them score 10 points.
Starting point is 00:16:21 Yeah. Well, that ends up catching up to you. Actually, at the end of the year, even though I would argue it shouldn't. Commonwealth Causes has launched the SEC Tournament 50-50 raffle. Okay, what is it? All right, so here's what you do. Go to commonwealthcauses.org. you can enter the raffle for every game kentucky wins they're going to add $500 to the pot and ksr is going to
Starting point is 00:16:44 add $500 to the pot nice so if kentucky wins all three games there will be $3,000 free dollars in you can participate at commonwealthcauses dot org there's you put i don't know the tickets are like two bucks or something you buy one you can buy more than one and then it's just like at a sporting event it's 50-50 but we're putting in three thousand extra dollars for the SEC tournament if Kentucky wins. That's awesome. It's a good little game we got going on here. And remember the money goes to NIL, all the benefits.
Starting point is 00:17:14 Go to commonwealthcauses.org. There's other auctions, but be a part of the 50-50 auction during the SEC tournament at Commonwealth Causes.org. We'll take a break and be right back here in LaRue County. This is Kentucky Sports Radio. Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio here in LaRue County in Hodgmanville. LaRue County Wrestling was the, what, state, dual-church.
Starting point is 00:17:44 champions. What does that mean? State duel. Yeah, it's duels. All the wrestling coach is here. What state duel mean? Team versus team. Okay, rather than individuals. Gotcha. I got it. So they were the champ here for five different years over the years. Good run their wrestling dynasty. Yes. The Girl Sweet 16 has just started. Ryan, you know these teams better than me, so give me quick picks. Bowling Green and I have as we county I have as we can't go on their first sweet 16 ever that's why I'm going with bowling green I think I was making the rookie debut bowling green owlsley county right now Shannon is up 20 to 5 so why they really nice start by Ryan I crack I'm cracker the
Starting point is 00:18:34 I don't know a lot of these girls teams still early though they still want there's still time but cracking county Russell uh Padouca versus the right outside of Ash yeah Paduca to pikeville so each corner of the state I'm going back McCracken County. McCracken County. Butler Anderson County, Anderson County. 32 and 2. Yeah, Anderson County's had a good run here lately, so I'm going to go with them. Franklin County, North Laurel.
Starting point is 00:18:56 Frankfurt versus London. Reed Shepherd versus the Robinsons. Franklin County won the 11th region. I always pick 11th region, although North Laurel's coming to the restaurant this afternoon. So? I'm going to North Laurel. Thank you very much. We always pick the one that goes to the restaurant.
Starting point is 00:19:10 Bethlehem versus Pikeville. Oh, Bethelm's got that, what? Her name's Leah Macy, I believe. She's really good. And that's the region down here. So we've got to go Bethlehem. Bethlehem. Owensboro Catholic Henderson County.
Starting point is 00:19:21 Oh, that's my second region, third region, bat over there when I worked over in Evansville. So I'll go with Owensboro Catholic. They're really good. Game of the tournament. Maybe the two best teams drew each other in the first round. George Rogers, Clark, Sacred Heart. Yeah, Sacred Heart, I think, beat him by 12 earlier this year. Sacred Heart did not lose.
Starting point is 00:19:37 They lost seven games, but did not lose to a team from Kentucky all season. So I picked Sacred Heart. And finally, Cooper versus Danville Christian. Danville Christian. They've got a girl named Grace Mbamboy. I'm probably mispronouncing her last name. Probably. But she averages like 30 points a game.
Starting point is 00:19:53 It's the first time they've ever won the 12th region tournament. They ate at KS Barred this morning. We're going to Danville Christian again. Oh, no, it was Barchtown Bethlehem. Somebody ate at 12. Okay. First of all, it's not 12 yet. I think it was Danville Christian Academy.
Starting point is 00:20:08 They're coming at noon. Joe, is that you? Go boobloo. I mean, you were in the ballpark of some of that being right. Yeah. Danville Christian's coming at noon, so I guess they're on the way right now. What you picked Danville Christian? One person on the text machine, let me read this, says, Matt, I heard you say yesterday,
Starting point is 00:20:31 Reed Shepard is projected to be the number one pick. I have a bet with my friend that he won't be in the top three. He's now doubled it if I will pick him to go number one. Would you do it? Wow. No. Look, I mean, we all love Reed Shepherd. It's hard for me to see him going number one. It's just hard.
Starting point is 00:20:56 Now, could I see him going in the top three? Maybe. But if you, all right, so let's, I'd rather have the side of the bed that says, Drew, he doesn't go in the top three. Number one, like, I just can't fathom him going number one. But like if he does, I'm going to be happy. I completely agree. It's outrageous we're even having this conversation. I think when he gets to the combine,
Starting point is 00:21:24 he might get picked apart a little bit with his athleticism. So much of it's just what he does in games where he just blows your mind with, you know, getting in a passing lane, stuff that'll be hard to show off in the pre-draft process. But I wouldn't bet against him outside maybe the top five at this point. I mean, the NBA seems to really love him. Let me say this about the guy who put him number one, Kevin O'Connor.
Starting point is 00:21:44 Kevin O'Connor doesn't have the best track record of actually picking what the NBA teams will do, but I followed him the last few years. He's pretty good at picking who'll be good. So, for instance, last year, if you remember Charlotte took that kid from Alabama, Brandon Miller over Scoot Henderson, and almost everyone in the NBA and draft world said that was terrible. Why didn't you take Scoot? Well, now, Brandon Miller is a lot better than Scoot Henderson. And the one dude who kept saying they should pick Brandon Miller is Kevin O'Connor. He says he thinks Reed Shepard is the best player in the draft. So that does matter to me, but Shannon and I just can't seem going number one, right?
Starting point is 00:22:23 I mean, a guy who wasn't even projected at the beginning of the season to be drafted in the first round. Now we're talking about being the number one overall pick. I think it is a little bit of a weak draft this upcoming year. But I would also say that it's likely to be like some foreigner that ends up getting picked as the first pick of the draft. Well, there have been two guys playing in Australia who've been projected to be number one. Would you? What if you see him in that? white t-shirt on stage on draft night getting up from the table wearing his
Starting point is 00:22:52 denadoes team you think he's going to wear the denado suit oh i got the reed style pizza last night by the way yeah reed knows what he's doing you got the bacon whatever yeah the hot honey read style i took the bait i got influenced online i got it last night does sound good though he wasn't even the governor i had to get some good mojo going to the tournament not even the governor he's by the way there are still people online who insist to me that if he were to go go number one, he'd come back? No. I did.
Starting point is 00:23:22 I mean, no. Come on. Like, I was talking about, like, just, okay, so Reed is huge to us in Kentucky. But, like, people in California don't know who Reed Shepard is. If he's the number one pick in the draft, like, I mean, do people realize, like, how huge that will be if he's the number one pick in the draft? He'll be, like, a worldwide icon. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:23:48 he would have to go. Chew deals on top of that. He's the best shooter in the country right now, and the NBA is a shooter's league. And the Spurs have the first pick, right? So they can pair him up with Victor Wimbanyama and just that probably would fit their needs better than maybe these guys from Australia.
Starting point is 00:24:05 Yeah, by the way, Owensboro made it, not Owensboro Catholic, just to be clear, because the Owensboro people are angry at me. Who's next? Chad is up next. Chad, go ahead, Chad. 899-2-80-22-87. Hey guys, I was, I had a question. Tom I was kind of under fire for underperforming this year, kind of like Cal Cal was a couple months ago. And they kind of fell off kind of at the same time as far as performance over the last five years. Who do you think body of work is better? Isos or cows? Cows. I mean, Cal has, Izzo's been occasionally better in the tournament. He's occasionally gone farther with his teams. But I, I mean, Cal has, Izo's been occasionally been occasionally better in the tournament. He's occasionally gone farther with his teams. But I,
Starting point is 00:24:48 still would take cows. Now, I still would take cows. He took three different teams to the final four. He's won a title. He made all those final fours in a row here. I still would take cows. Yeah, you don't really bet against Izzo in the turner. He's had some good runs, but the overall body of work,
Starting point is 00:25:04 cows had better run. But, I mean, I think Cal is still a lot better, a lot more relevant than Izzo. I don't know if hisos has been relevant for a few years. We'll take a break and be right back. This is Kentucky Sports Radio. Welcome back, Tegi Sports Radio here live at LaRue County High School. Thank you to the kid. Thank you very much in the pink shirt for giving us applause.
Starting point is 00:25:40 All the folks around you did, but you did, and we thank you for that. I saw it from all the way down here. 859, 28027. You just told me, Shannon, you didn't get credentialed for the SEC tournament. I never do. I never do. I mean, that's like the greatest tradition for me in Nashville with the SEC tournament. Why do they not credential you?
Starting point is 00:25:56 I don't understand it. You guys, all three of you, credentialed. There's people who have, like, 10 listeners in a Twitter account. It's true. I got credentialed to the White House, but forget about the SEC tournament. That ain't happening. But they credential you to the NCAA tournament. That's right, yeah.
Starting point is 00:26:12 But they won't credit. Random NBA games that we have no affiliation with or we're not covering whatsoever. They let us in. They let me in. But not in the SEC tournament. I don't, I don't know. That's wild to me that you don't get credentialed. Can't sit here.
Starting point is 00:26:26 What do you think? Do you think they just don't want to? like him? I think there's a story there. I think Shannon must have made some people mad in the SEC office at some point. What'd you say about him, Shannon? Did you punch Greg Sanky? I think I think it's a hand sanitizer. You stole it. That's right. Well, to be fair, though, I wasn't credential that year either. You weren't. I think it just means more, and that's why they won't let me go to the SEC tournament. They know you mean less. That's right. Don't mind me over here. 859-28027. I thought of you yesterday with the story that your boy, Aaron Rogers, is being
Starting point is 00:26:57 considered as the vice president candidate for Robert Kennedy? Come on. Yeah. He's not going to get, well, RFK is not going to get in any way to begin with. So it doesn't matter who his running mate is. I know, but Aaron, I like how Aaron Rogers came out and said, you know, our problem with the Jets this year was we were too distracted by outside forces. By the way, I'm thinking about running for vice president during the season. So I'm like who's voting? Nobody's voting for him. I would hope not. No. You know, he used to be your guy. Like, he was like your quarterback, yeah.
Starting point is 00:27:31 But you also really, I mean, like. Well, I was a Brett Favre guy, so I never really liked Aaron Rogers to begin with. But when he's your franchise quarterback and you're a fan of that team, you've got to have to learn to like it, right? Yes. I also like the other choice is Jesse the Body Ventura. Well, at least he has some experience. He actually was governor. He was governor of Minnesota.
Starting point is 00:27:50 Have you heard him recently, though? Like his voice. But I guess Robert Candy's voice the same way. Like, their voices are like really. Yeah, you know. Well, we don't have to worry about any of those guys being in the White House in the future. Because the two we have are going to be the best. I mean, whether or not they're the best, they're going to be one of those two guys are going to be in it.
Starting point is 00:28:07 But it's going to be one of those two guys. 859-280-2287. Who do you think is going to be SEC Tournament MVP? First of all, if you think we're going to win, it's going to be a cat? Kentucky will win, and Antonio Reeves, he's, you know, Bahamas' MVP, Canadian MVP, SEC tournament MVP. That's true. He's been the Louisville game MVP. Louisville game MVP. He's been the MVP of everything we've done that's given an MVP.
Starting point is 00:28:32 I like that. What about you? I was going to say, Antonio, it's always an easy answer. But I feel like we always have some sleepers step up at the SEC tournament. Dominique Hawkins had a big tournament. Wynion hit like seven threes in a game. Give me Justin Edwards as the SEC turns of MVP. Good choice. Although I seem to jinx him every time I did that on the pregame show.
Starting point is 00:28:54 Yeah, you did. I was going to say Antonio, but I guess I can't take yours, so I'll go Reed Shepard. I felt like as the other easy answer. Antonio is going to. He quietly gets 20 points every game. I mean, Reed Shepard, again, the Tennessee game, he was the story, and he should have been. Reed Shepard had 27 points. But you know what Antonio Reeves had?
Starting point is 00:29:15 27 points. Like, dude has the quietest points of anyone that has ever. I don't think we've ever had a player at Kentucky. who scored more quietly than Antonio Reeves. And remember, he now averages more points a game than any player in Calpary history. Well, and you said when he walks away from here, his shooting percentages are going to be among the best to anybody who's ever played here. He's two free throws.
Starting point is 00:29:41 Think about this. He's two miss free throws away from being the first 40, 50, 90 player in UK history. That's insane. Which is 40% from two, or excuse me, 50% from two. 40% from three, 90% from the line. He would have become the first person to ever do that in UK history if he made two more free throws. I think one of them was the technical free throw after Musselman.
Starting point is 00:30:06 When he missed it, I felt that knowing that probably ruined his chances at 90% there, but still an incredible year. They're kind of a problem where so many different guys can do it, where when they do it on the same night, they might get completely overshadowed. Like Edwards, when he had the 10 for 10, lots of other guys had a great game, but that was just the Justin Edwards game.
Starting point is 00:30:25 So Reeves has had these big nights, but, you know, it might be Reed Shepard was right there with them, and they get seen a little bit more. That's exactly right. Who's up next? Dominic is next. Dominic. How are you, Dominic?
Starting point is 00:30:38 Hey, I'm pretty good. Good. Go ahead. I just have a question, though. Who do you all think the best college basketball player is right now? In the country? Yeah. Well, the national player of the year will be Zach Eady, probably.
Starting point is 00:30:59 But if you were to say to me who's the best player in the country, I don't want to say it, Ryan, but I think it's probably Dalton Connect. He proved it to me last weekend. I mean, the dude is phenomenal. We have to admit it. I mean, he scored 40. He's only the fifth player since 1975 to score 40 points against us. I mean, that's, now they lost, but that's still pretty amazing. And he's pretty smooth, too.
Starting point is 00:31:24 How about how he went down the lane and just tried to dunk on the whole team? It didn't work. I mean, the guy is athletic and score in a lot of ways. He's deserving of any credit he gets. I mean, he and Zach Ety. I hope he loses this weekend. Yeah, I mean, he and Zach Eady are both great. The kid at Yukon's great.
Starting point is 00:31:38 The kid at Houston, Sneed is great. I think Antonio is in that group. But if you were just saying to me, okay, well, who is the best player in the country, I'd probably have to say connect. I'm with you. I mean, he did force some shots down the stretch, but I felt like they had to do that, you know, when the guy's that hot and he's got 40 points, even though he's jacking up, you know, a long three-point shot. If you're Tennessee, I think at that point, you just got to trust him and let them take those shots. It's kind of like us with Dillingham.
Starting point is 00:32:05 You know, he plays so erratically, but you got to let him, you got to let them play through that. By the way, I saw this guy on the ESPN. His name is John Gassaway, and he's like they're like stats guy. And he came out yesterday and he goes, I'm on, for the six year in a row, I'm going to give you one of, Nine teams that'll win the title, and I guarantee you'll the win it. And I was like, nine. I've been doing five for 25 years. Nine, he was bragging about getting one of nine.
Starting point is 00:32:33 Like nine to me is not hard right. Nine, everybody should be able to get it if it's nine. Well, it kind of stole my thunder. I was going to come out today, so I'm going to give you one of 64 teams that's going to win the tournament this year. You get all the one seeds. You get all the two seeds. Yeah. Yeah, and his nine were like all the one seeds.
Starting point is 00:32:54 Then it was Arizona, Kentucky, Creighton, North Carolina, Duke. Creighton's not winning the title. I'm with you. Just by name alone. Creighton's not going to the time. No. But I mean, if you take all the one seeds, all the two seeds,
Starting point is 00:33:10 and then the two best three seeds, yeah, Drew, you're probably going to win, right? Like, it's not that hard. We already know most of the field is not going to win it. You can eliminate whatever number you think it is. already getting pretty close to nine teams right there already when you're eliminating the ones you know can't pull it off and he's only done for five years i'm like go back 25 years and say like five years nine that's easy who's next got dan up next dan go ahead dan hey man how you guys doing this morning doing well okay look got a question about the nil or is football and basketball who uh the nil i guess it's it's going to uh favor football
Starting point is 00:33:49 because they've got to stay, what, two, three, three years at least. Where basketball, you've got one and done. No, you don't have to stay. What do you mean favor? I don't know what you mean. Yeah, I mean, as far as what's team, what, put all the, let's say, all the Division I team, what's it going to favor the NILs? Are it going to favor football more is going to favor basketball more, paying these players?
Starting point is 00:34:15 You mean that, well, I mean, obviously the players will make more money But I don't know. You know, here's the thing that's, here's where NIL's helping in basketball, and I appreciate the call. What NIL is doing in basketball is it is allowing a certain type of player to really make some money that maybe they were. A perfect example, Zach Eadie, right? So, Zach Eadie is, he'll get drafted, but he's more of a college player. And with NIL, he can make some money. A guy like Tim Tebow was a perfect NIL deal guy.
Starting point is 00:34:49 Like he is not a pro quarterback, but he's one of the best college quarterbacks of all time. So NIA allows him to make his worth, right? You know, Armando Baycott at North Carolina, he's not going to play in the pros. Oscar. Oscar last year. I mean, Oscar's a great example. Oscar's not an NBA player, at least not a great one, but he's a great college player. And NIL, I think, probably benefits guys like Oscar Drew more than almost any other type of dude.
Starting point is 00:35:18 That's why I think college basketball, we already see it now, but it's going to continue the kind of old traditional big man that the NBA doesn't want, but they can still be very successful in college. I think what you're going to see in college from now on is there going to be two different types of players. I think the old one and done superstars are coming back to college because of NIL. This is the last year where they did the G. Like they're talking about even getting rid of that G League team because they don't think there's a need for it anymore. the guys we used to get, the Anthony Davis is, the John Walls, when those dudes come up, I think they're going to now go to college, whereas for a few years they didn't. Then I think you're going to have that on one side, and then you're going to have Shannon the seniors
Starting point is 00:36:01 who started at a school like Northern Colorado, Illinois State, wherever. And then they get good, and in that junior and senior year, they go to a Kentucky, a Duke, cash in, and you're going to see college basketball be freshman superstars. juniors and seniors that started out at mid-majors, and that's going to be your two different pass of player. And I don't think that's bad for the game of college basketball. I would much rather have that than just a bunch of one and duns. And, you know, a lot of people that argue against NIL.
Starting point is 00:36:32 And juniors and seniors that stink. Right, right. So I think overall this situation with NIL actually improves the college basketball game. I think college basketball is benefited by a lot more than college football. because college football, you know, Sabin made this point, the roster's changing so much. In basketball, you only got 12 guys, right? And really, you only have like eight. So you can sort of manage what you want to do probably a little bit better.
Starting point is 00:37:00 Tell me about Stockton Mortgage. You know, Stockton Mortgage is growing, Matt, and they're always looking for talented people to add to their growing team. And they now have over 50 locations and licenses, and now in 26 states, they've maintained their culture. In 2022, they were voted one of the top workplaces in the state in the categories of employee appreciations. professional development, employee well-being, find out more, and find out about what it's like to work at Stockton Mortgage. Go to Stockton.com slash careers in MLS, 8259, equal housing lender. Jack Pilgrim predicted the four UK players that will come back for another year yesterday.
Starting point is 00:37:32 He says there'll be four. We'll tell you what they are. Right after this is Kentucky Sports Radio. Welcome back, Kentucky Sports Radio. Final segment. Matt, Brian, Drew, and Shannon here at LaRue County High School, where they are continuing their athletic modernization partnership and raising money to this this is a great community I just heard they've got a place
Starting point is 00:38:04 with their ag department over there has roosters we've been hearing it and I was like I thought it was on a commercial and it's not it's right over there and but but this is the football field here the track does need to be renovated and I hope we help sort of shine and I there you go now I agree with with you. I hope we can shine an eye on it and get it done here because this place deserves it. Guy here was telling me the Agriculture Department, the students from Elizabethtown come over here to study at the Ag Department and the students at LaRue County go to Elizabeth Town for their engineering department. They do a little trade-off. That's kind of cool, yeah.
Starting point is 00:38:39 I noticed driving up down here, the battery plant, man, it feels like they're about to, it feels like they made it in about a month. It's like a city. It's like a whole city out there. They have enough people around here to work at that place. I mean, that is a That place is going to be massive. Yeah, that thing is huge. It just keeps getting bigger and bigger. Yeah, so it should be quite a thing. All right, so a few things.
Starting point is 00:39:03 First of all, Girl Suite 16 is going in Lexington. If you go to town for that, go to KS Bar. Ryan's got a lot of teams coming. Let's talk about our school, our schedule in Nashville. Tomorrow we're going to be doing the show from our apartment. Correct. We have an apartment together, like the old days. and we're going to do our show together at the apartment tomorrow.
Starting point is 00:39:25 That usually ends up with somebody being giddy. Ryan will probably be drunk by 5.30 this afternoon is going to be my guess. Am I right about that? We'll see. He starts drinking white Russians at 5 o'clock. I think the answer to that question is yes. It's Wednesday night at the SEC tournament, including tonight's last game is Georgia, Missouri. What do you think?
Starting point is 00:39:47 50 people in the arena for that one? Oh, there will be more. I feel like last year people, they're starting to get on. They're starting to catch the Wednesday fever. It's always been my favorite day. People are noticing it's the best night because the basketball is horrible. There's no pressure and you can just enjoy Nashville. I think the tickets are like $2 or like $5.
Starting point is 00:40:05 Like last year they had a good crowd because it's now become like let's just go. It's first come first serve so you can sit anywhere. Like there's no assigned seating so you can sit anywhere. And we've been Wednesday night SEC tournament guys for a long time. But I agree, Shannon. People are starting to kind of, it's like they realize Wednesday night at the SEC tournament, great combination of terrible basketball and stupid atmosphere. You guys get in for free.
Starting point is 00:40:31 I now have to decide if Vanderbilt basketball is worth me paying $2 to see. And I really don't think it's even worth that. Like if you paid me $2 to come in, I might go. I think you'll end up there. I don't know. All right, so tomorrow we'll do the show there. Then we will be very, the rest, we're going to be watching games at the Draft Kings, sports book. It's sports and social club, but it's also Draft Kings.
Starting point is 00:40:55 If you are going to the SEC tournament, just a little note, if you want to do anything with your player props for the SEC tournament, you can't do those in Tennessee. So you got to make your bet in Kentucky before you go. They don't do player props in Tennessee. So you can gamble, but you can't do player props for college in Tennessee. So just keep that in mind. So we'll be at Draft Kings throughout some of those days. Then Friday morning, 10 roof, pre-show starts at Nine, Eastern, 8th Central. Regular show 10, 9. Get there early.
Starting point is 00:41:25 Should be a lot of fun. Great crowd. One of my favorite shows to do, and it'll be a wild atmosphere, as always, I'm sure. It's one of our favorite weeks of the year. We know Kentucky fans love it. It's time to go win one. We've got to snap this longest drought we've been on. And that Friday 10-Roof show that morning, it's a little early for some people,
Starting point is 00:41:44 myself included, but it's always a great way to lead off whatever Kentucky's going to do. And I would say to you, like, you know, Even if you don't have tickets, I think the atmosphere in Nashville is going to be awesome. Then if we end up in Pittsburgh next weekend, I think it's going to be awesome there. I mean, I just feel like, Ryan, the fans are connected for these next few weeks. I think Friday is going to be an awesome day for Kentucky fans. Our show in the morning, you got all afternoon to hang out and watch games and then go to the game Friday night and watch Kentucky win. I mean, I think it's going to be a great weekend.
Starting point is 00:42:13 We deserve it, man. We've been hanging on for seven years. We do deserve it. We've had too many years of it being blah. We do deserve it. a big year this year and I think we're going to get it. Who's up next? Todd is up next.
Starting point is 00:42:24 Todd, go ahead, Todd. Hey, guys, first time caller. Who are? Hang on just a second. Is this your all's T-shirts, for real? Who's your farmer? Oh, it's for Hinton's Orchard and Market. I thought this, I thought that's what LaRue County wore in like the, yeah.
Starting point is 00:42:44 It's the school motto. Who's your farmer? I like it, though. It would be a very unique motto. Okay, go ahead. Sorry, sir. Hey, just going to say, glad you guys come down to LaRue County. I'm calling out of the Tater County.
Starting point is 00:42:55 Good to have you all get out of the big city and get down here with us country, we some Kentucky ball lovers. And just want to say about Trey Mitchell, you know, we started a year off, and he was a leader for the team. Everybody said that. And then he got hurt. And then, I don't know, his last two games had been, you know, been up to par. But, you know, when he gets on the sideline, he's over a dig.
Starting point is 00:43:20 graves and just blowing arrows. He is digging graves, that's right. I mean, doing some kind of dance. I don't know what that is, but anyway, you should try. You know, well, it ain't working for him, so I'm just saying, oh. Oh, wow. I just think if he put the energy on the court instead of on the sideline.
Starting point is 00:43:41 See, I thought you were going the other way. I love this. I love this. See, I disagree with you. I appreciate the call. I think what's been cool about Trey Mitchell is the fact, Drew, he's not playing a lot, but he's still in the game and he's still supporting his teammates. I think that's awesome.
Starting point is 00:43:55 I think that's one of the best things about this whole team. Trey is one of the leaders of the celebrations these days, but when Bradshaw wasn't playing, he was doing it too. Jordan Berks has fallen way out of the rotation. He's just as enthusiastic as the guys that are getting all the minutes. They seem to really love each other and cheer each other on. By the way, the four players, Jack said would come back. Adieu, Aaron Bradshaw, Jordan Berks, and Joey Hart.
Starting point is 00:44:17 Thanks Aaron Bradshaw will come back for another year. We'll talk more about that tomorrow. Court physical therapy. If you need to get physical therapy, how about court? K-O-R-T.com over 70 locations, you can feel better, right? And they're all over the place, 70 locations. They can help you get back to like you never were even hurt, keep you from being, if you got hurt in an athletic incident or training or whatever,
Starting point is 00:44:39 they will make it feel like it never happened. It's court.com. That's K-O-R-T.com. There is one near you with court. Thank you, folks, to everybody here in Luru County. We really appreciate it. Lurton County High School, the Clarks for having us. It's been an awesome day.
