Starting point is 00:00:00 Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and Friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter.
Starting point is 00:00:23 Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and Friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Last night, a blown call changed a game. I'm Timbo, and every episode, we're cutting through the noise, breaking down the biggest moments in sports and giving you the real story behind the headline. Starting point is 00:02:49 It is Kentucky Sports Radio here live at Tin Roof in Nashville. Great crowd. For those of you making your way, I've gotten a lot of text on the text machine. People on their way down here. Let me read you one. One person writes, Matt, I'm on the way down. Just past Bowling Green, I see Kentucky flags and Kentucky shirts everywhere. I don't think Nashville understands how many Kentucky fans will be there tonight.
Starting point is 00:03:14 That would be great to see, don't you think? Again, I think there's going to be just as many Kentucky fans in these bars as there is in the actual game. I mean, I know 10 Roof is like putting the Kentucky, like stopping the bands and putting Kentucky sound on for the game. I know Draft King's doing the same thing. They're putting Kentucky sound on for the game. So, I mean, there's going to be, it's going to be wild up here. I didn't see them do that for any other game. Yeah, they didn't do it for Mississippi State A&M.
Starting point is 00:03:43 We're literally stopping country music on Broadway to listen to Tom Hart. I think this is the biggest crowd I've seen in the last four years since COVID, right? I mean, this feels like a pre-COVID crowd here. This is both at this show, excuse me, both at this show and on the street, this is the biggest Kentucky crowds since COVID. I think that there's no doubt about that. You're going, but you got to go back to 17, 18, 19. To have the crowds, the crowds.
Starting point is 00:04:12 I still think the biggest crowd that was ever down here, from my memory, was the John Wall 2010 one. We didn't do shows them, but just there were just state fans everywhere. But I think you're going to get, you're going to get close with this one. A couple pieces of news here. Let's start. The NIL, the U.K. NIL fund.
Starting point is 00:04:31 that was started yesterday. They did a pretty amazing job, actually. They got about $50,000 in a day, which says to me that, like, that's going to be a very successful thing. Their goal, their goal for it, and I think it is spotfund.com slash lawfamilia. We still got to work on our phrasing.
Starting point is 00:04:56 But spotfund.com slash lawfamilia, like I said, I think they got $50,000. Their goal's a million. Their belief is, their belief is if they can get a million dollars that way, to throw in with what they get from everywhere else, they will be set up to be the number one, the number one NIL situation in the country. Ryan, I think it's going to happen, and I think this was a very smart thing for UK basketball for the folks around it to do. I think fans wanted to find an avenue a way they can help contribute to the basketball team, and now this is it. This is how you can help everybody.
Starting point is 00:05:30 And I want to make sure people know something about it. Yes, you can donate money. And I saw people like literally donating $5 or $10. But if you donate anything at all or if you even like share the link, you get on a list for events that they will be doing throughout the year. So yeah, it's awesome if you can donate $500, $1,000, whatever you do. But if you donate $5 or $10, you still will get on the list for events and I do think from what I understand like for instance there might be a signing that
Starting point is 00:06:06 happens at some point that if you've done that you're at the front of the line for even if it's a small amount so I do think drew people ought to even if it's a small I put a small amount in there the other day just be or yesterday just because you know you want to be able to help contribute especially at a time right now where I've been saying it's a fan favorite team I'll have been walking up down Broadway and people like what's the link to that Reed Shepherd fund what do I put my Reed Shepherd money or where do I put my Rob Dillingham money? Because that's what that's all the enthusiasm is trying to keep this team together next year. What pieces you can.
Starting point is 00:06:37 I called the people that run it, Shannon, and I said, we got to do better than spotfund.com slash law familiar. So they are working on a easier link to be able to let people know. A lot to be said for simplicity. But I do like this because this is a way to where everybody in the fan base can feel like they're contributing. It doesn't matter if you throw in a whole lot of money. you could just throw in a little bit and still be contributing and helping out the team.
Starting point is 00:07:02 So to our official Vandy fan, are you happy they let go with Jerry Stackhouse? Yeah, I think it was time to move on. 9-21 or whatever they finished was not good. I mean, I know it's hard to win at Vanderbilt, but you've got to do better than that. You've got to at least compete. So will you go take Chris Mack to Roosters if he ends up taking the Vandy job? That's where he likes to hang out. I'll take Chris back out to Roosters.
Starting point is 00:07:24 You know, in all seriousness, I think he could be a good coach for Vanity. He could be. I agree with that. I think that would be a good hire for them. As you know, every year at the SEC tournament, they do an SEC tournament legend for each team. Tonight's legend for Kentucky is Tubby Smith, who will be at the game tonight. I, uh, Ryan, I think it's really awesome and I really encourage the fans. It'll happen at halftime. I really encourage the fans to give him his flowers, as the kids say, because I think it is absolutely awesome. Tubby Smith will be there, get another. chance to get an ovation from the Kentucky fan base. And this is a true story.
Starting point is 00:08:05 When Tubby Smith was honored and going to the youth athletics hall of fame and they marched him out at the halftime of a UK football game, he was really worried how he was going to be received. And you guys were there that night. That stadium just erupted with that applause and the admiration they have for that man. Honored him when High Point came into Rupp Arena. I mean, this is a guy that is very much beloved and everything he's getting now is much deserved.
Starting point is 00:08:27 You know, the fact that they weren't. We're only, they lost in the elite aid a bunch and the NCAA tournament stuff people remember. But I think everybody knows this. One thing Tubby Smith did, he owned this tournament right here. Yes, he did. Tubby Smith won the SEC tournament time and time and time again. He owned the SEC tournament when he was here. And I think it is very fitting, Drew, that he gets honored at the SEC tournament as well.
Starting point is 00:08:52 Yeah, I don't think Tubby flew to Nashville to walk out on that court to get a second or third place trophies. I think he's here to win it because that's what Kentucky does. Let's do it for him. And just because it's been so long, it's the longest drought since we've even played on Sunday. Yes. It has been six years since we've even been in the championship. Yeah, this is the longest, just so you know, this is the longest we've ever gone in the history without winning the SEC tournament, which is why we've got to actually win it this year.
Starting point is 00:09:18 I want to take one apology here to the folks. They don't deserve this. This happens to them all the time. I didn't say how many of you are from northern Kentucky. So let me try that. How many of you are from Northern Kentucky? I think I hear some people downstairs. There you go, a bunch of people downstairs.
Starting point is 00:09:36 Ma'am, you held your Northern Kentucky pride right there, and I very much appreciate it. So who's up next? Luke is up next. Luke, go ahead, Luke. Matt, I'm at the bottom of tin roof right now, and the beers are absolutely flowing. The bloody berries are flowing.
Starting point is 00:09:54 We're having a great time. The blue has ran deep this year. This is one of the better SEC tournaments I've been to. A lot of blue down here. My question for you, since the last time we played A&M, what do you think has changed? Yeah, so I think the two biggest things that have changed that make me confident about the win, Ryan.
Starting point is 00:10:15 First of all, if you remember, Adu Thiero did not play against Texas A&M, and he is the kind of guy that I actually think would be a big positive and against a game like that. He's physical. He's long. He's a dude that I actually think helps a lot, and I appreciate the call. The second thing is, offensive, Justin Edwards. Justin Edwards played, but was not Justin Edwards.
Starting point is 00:10:39 And if we are able to play Justin Edwards or Theero at the four, I think we have the ability to match up a lot better with A&M. So to me, having Theero on the court and having the new Justin Edwards, I mean, the other thing you got to remember is we didn't shoot well down there. I think except Antonio Reeves, nobody made anything when we were down there. I expect all of that to be better. Yeah, and they killed us on the board. I think they out rebound is like by 20, if I'm not mistaken.
Starting point is 00:11:06 I got a lot of offensive rebounds. Kentucky's better now, and I think Ugo is a big reason now. They're a little better rebounding team. I also would say go look at the numbers for Shepard and Reeves in the last 10 games. If they go anywhere close to that, and then you know we're going to get a five-minute stretch tonight where Dillingham scores 10 points in five minutes. It happens every single game, so I feel like it'll happen again tonight. Yeah, Kentucky went down there and lost in College Station.
Starting point is 00:11:32 I remember worrying at the time, that's just a tough place to play. It was like the second week of January, maybe. It was one of the first games of SEC. The Kentucky team that we're going to watch later is completely different than the team that went to Texas A&M early in the season. So, I mean, it's good for the motivation. We remember that, but it's a completely different basketball that'll be out there. It's also, I think it's important for us to take a step back and look at some of these losses in hindsight. Again, I was as frustrated about them as when they happened.
Starting point is 00:11:58 But, you know, that loss at South Carolina doesn't look the same as it did the day we did it. That team ended up being a lot better than we thought. A&M is right there on the brink of the tournament. Gizaga lost in the finals of the West Coast Conference, but before that had been on a run. Florida had won seven straight games before they lost to Shannon's Vandy team in the last game of the season. So a lot of these teams that we lost to, maybe. Ryan it wasn't as bad as we thought in the moment because those teams might not have been as bad as we thought South Carolina is the definite one that stands out when you talk about that argument they are a good basketball team
Starting point is 00:12:35 and only got slipped all the way to the five C but they were they were in hunt to win the SEC championship just a week ago who's up next got Joe up next Joe go ahead Joe a two comments Matt the first comment will be on Trey missile this will be a great test for trade tonight if he shows he can withstand the physical of Texas A&M, that will be a great sign for the Big Blue. Let me stop you right there on Trey Mitchell. We really haven't seen Trey Mitchell in like six weeks of substance. He didn't play for a while, and then when he's come back, he's not been the same. I've been kind of holding out hope because I do think there's going to be a game.
Starting point is 00:13:16 Honestly, Tindight might be one of them where you could use Trey Mitchell. Do you think we will see the Trey Mitchell we saw the first 17 or 18 games? games of the year again this year. Yeah, we will. I mean, I can tell you this, he had a good week of practice, and he's close to 100%. So I think it's coming. That game you're talking about, it's coming, and he may get a lot of minutes tonight. You said, I've heard you say that a couple times on the pre-show, the good week of practice. Is that a, is that a source? What is this? What is this? What do we know about the good week of practice? I'm just saying, you sound like a coach with the good week of practice. Good, I mean, as far as him being close to
Starting point is 00:13:50 100% physically getting back to where he was before the injuries. Do you guys think you, you'll see him? Yeah. Yeah, I mean, He was such a big part of their offense early on in the season. If we've got him back and feeling healthy, then I think that we can have him contribute again offensively as he was earlier in the year. So I think he's going to be a big part of the team moving forward. Part of the reason he's not playing, though, is to be honest, think about what he did. He was able to get physical and he was able to shoot threes at the four spot. Well, guess who's doing that?
Starting point is 00:14:19 Justin Edwards. Justin Edwards has been able to get physical and make threes at the four spot, so we really kind of haven't needed him, Drew, quite as well. much. I know, and he's so important with a shot, and he hasn't had it since he's come back with that shoulder injury. I'm hoping that was just kind of a lingering issue as he's getting back. But it is kind of a weird equation because I, for me, I want the guard, the three guards, rotate him of the four. And then Adieu or Justin Edwards at the four, me too. Rotating to them. Then you got the bigs. Then you go, crap, I forgot to put
Starting point is 00:14:46 Trey Mitchell in that rotation. It's just a weird, I don't know where you plug him in. I don't love him at the four with a seven footer, especially when he's not hitting threes. If he said I would love, if we could get him. healthy, 100% healthy. I think him at the five is the way to play. And there's only a handful of teams that can exploit that. Like Hunter Dickinson exploited it. But I think, remember, we beat North Carolina with him at the five pretty much. Like, there's no reason we can't do that in the right circumstance. And if he doesn't play well this postseason, we are still going to shake his hand for what he did in November and December. That game against Hunter Dickinson, he was asked
Starting point is 00:15:22 to do so much more than what he plays his position. And he gave so much effort. That win at Florida to open SEC play he was big there I don't know what the next couple weeks has for him but he was a big role up until this point go ahead Joe what was your second point and my last comment will be it's always special when the wildcats play on St. Patrick's weekend and I got a special shout out to a lady that goes to my church a 102 year old lady named Mary O'Brien she says go big blue and let's go let's just take his title Mary O'Brien a hundred and two years old hopefully hopefully we'll be fans when we're 102 years old oh i always like to do this every year i want who is my appreciate to call joe who is my youngest fan here i got uh one you said 11 do we have anybody that is in this
Starting point is 00:16:08 bar at tin roof in nashville that is younger than 11 years old i love it hey you're from what part of the state are you from nowhere all right huh you're from Nebraska okay okay okay okay Okay, startup young in Nebraska. I like that. All right, so who is our oldest fan here if our youngest is 11? Do we have anybody in this building 75 or over? No. Nobody?
Starting point is 00:16:39 They don't want to say. Come on. All right. How old is she back there? You don't have to hide your age. We're on live radio. Just tell me the answer. 77.
Starting point is 00:16:54 All right, we have 77. Anybody older than 77? 75. 75. All right, there you go. So we have 11 and 75 and everywhere in between. Clearcut Hero drink. It's a first of its kind hydration drink with balanced electrolytes, great taste, and low sugar.
Starting point is 00:17:13 They've got Eclipse, lemon, lime, Nova Orange, peach mango. They're all kinds of flavors, and they're great, and they're not bad for you. They actually help give you energy and happiness. And remember, check them out. It's Clear Cut Hero. They have McCroger or on your local – well, your local Kroger or on Amazon today. We love them. They've been a great sponsor of us.
Starting point is 00:17:33 It's a clear-cut hero. Let's take a break. We'll talk about the NCAA tournament. We return. This is Kentucky Sports Radio. Welcome back here, Kentucky Sports Radio live. Tinroof. I want to thank this crowd.
Starting point is 00:17:54 Your energy has been great throughout the show. This is one of my favorite shows to do. It's also one of the hardest shows to do because it's a massive building, and there's people everywhere. But the thing is, you guys. are locked in and that's because you're ready to win this title tonight, aren't you? Or win this weekend, it may not be tonight. Let's talk about the, and by the way, to the three people that have asked me on the text
Starting point is 00:18:16 machine, if I have tickets for them for tonight, the answer is no. Please don't. That's right. We only ask for tickets. We don't give tickets. That's right. Now, we don't have tickets for us. Shannon, you're still not able to get the building.
Starting point is 00:18:29 Actually, I've got a ticket now. You have a ticket tonight? I've got a ticket. What? A good ticket. Thanks to this guy right here. Which one? Right here, right?
Starting point is 00:18:39 Yeah, there you go. I can't see the lights on my face. Yeah. Thank you. Thank you very much. I thought you were had like a groupie situation that you did in exchange. You know, I mean, I've got my sources. Jeff's handsome.
Starting point is 00:18:49 It's all right. That's right. I talked to Jeff last night. Shannon might be tripping referee. He's got some good seats. Good for you, Shane. Yeah. That's very, that's very good.
Starting point is 00:18:57 Thank you to Jeff for doing that. All right, let's talk about the NCAA tournament. Joe Lannardi has us right now as the second highest three seed. has us, which meet, and basically I saw him on TV say, as long as Kentucky wins tonight, I think they're comfortably a three-seed, might be a three-seed even if they lose. Two-seed, Seb would take us getting to the finals, probably still wouldn't get there, but has at least a shot. So it looks like a three-seed would be good.
Starting point is 00:19:30 That means you open up with the 14. Here are the two seeds right now. I want you to tell me who you, because this would be our Sweet 16 matchups. Who would you want to play and who would you want to avoid? Marquette, Arizona, Iowa State. The other's Tennessee. They wouldn't put us with them. So Marquette, Arizona, or Iowa State.
Starting point is 00:19:52 Who would you want to get? Who would you want to avoid? Give me Marquette. I think that's probably the team at the top of my list. If Tennessee is there, I don't know that you want to see Tennessee for a potential fourth time if they meet in the tournament in the SEC tournament. So I would say probably Marquette's the one team I would take. What about you?
Starting point is 00:20:11 Quick answer. I don't want to see Arizona. There was a point. I thought they might have a one seat a little earlier. Caleb Love is there. I mean, I grew up watching Caleb Love and March Madness. Listen to him on the radio. I've been in the league so long.
Starting point is 00:20:23 So I just think with their experience, I would want to avoid Arizona. That's what I was going to say. Give me Iowa State or Marquette. Anybody but Arizona? If I got my druthers, I'm taking one. one of the other two teams. This is going to be a little bit of a cop out, but I got to be honest with you,
Starting point is 00:20:37 if you tell me I get a chance to play Marquette, Arizona, or Iowa State to go to the lead aid, I'll take a ball. I'm not really worried about any of those teams. I mean, I really am not. I don't think Arizona's good. I think the Pac-12 just stinks. They may only get two teams in the tournament this year.
Starting point is 00:20:54 So I think they just stink, and so I'm not worried about them. And then Marquette plays our style, so I'm not worried about them at all. If I had one, I wouldn't want to play. it'd probably be Iowa State just because they're physical. But in general, you know, I would love this draw. And then they have us in Detroit.
Starting point is 00:21:11 I mean, can you imagine if six hours away from Lexington, Kentucky's playing for a chance to go to the final four, I think the arena drew would just be packed with Kentucky fans. Absolutely. I mean, Detroit is already a destination city. I know Blue would absolutely get in there for that one. I've got them in a weird point. Other than maybe Yukon, I'm going to sound like Cal here.
Starting point is 00:21:31 I'm just worried about Kentucky's showing up. And if they show up and play well, I don't care who's on the other side. I'm more worried about just my team being consistent than who's on the other end. I'm fine playing anybody. I'm not really scared of any team in the tournament. I'd like to avoid Yukon and North Carolina. We've already played North Carolina. We have a history with them at Ryan in the Sweet 16 and Elite 8 that I don't like.
Starting point is 00:21:57 And then Yukon, I think Yukon's probably the best team in the country. country and they've also kind of owned us in the NCAA tournament over the years. So I'd rather, those would be the only two teams I'd like to make sure are not in our bracket. Yeah, Kentucky's got a losing record against Yukon and the Calera, right? So, yeah, that's one team that's had our number a little bit. I hate Yukon. Yes, I do as well.
Starting point is 00:22:19 Let me ask you a question. How many of you all genuinely think we're winning the tournament this weekend? For real. That's pretty good confidence. Now, imagine if I, wait a minute, did you just give me one of these? Lady, you just gave me one of these, ma'am. Like, how are you going to give me one of these? I just want to make it.
Starting point is 00:22:41 All right, so give me percentage chance, because I'm going with you, whatever you say. 99.9. That's pretty confident. She gave me one of these. She gave me one of these and then went 99.9. Who's up next? If you got to a bar at 7 a.m. in Kentucky gear, you think they're winning the turn. I think you're right.
Starting point is 00:22:59 Who's up next? Freeberg is up next. Freeberg, go ahead. Man, it is on a row down there. I wish I was there. Reed Shepard movie will outsell Rudy. Wow. I want a dude show with Alice Blue Gown go.
Starting point is 00:23:16 Yeah, when we talked to... Hang on. So your Alice Blue Gown show went great. Did your voice, like, almost give out at any point? Yeah, that last hour was a bit of a struggle. And I was just surprised that I had any voice this morning when I woke up. Can I ask you a question? Sure.
Starting point is 00:23:31 Now, first of all, understand. I appreciate your rock star swag. Like, you'd like, when you do it, you're, like, looking at people and you're giving them their, like, sexy stare and all that. But I got one question for it. When you were singing sweet emotion. Yeah. When you would, like, get to a key part, you would turn your back on the crowd
Starting point is 00:23:54 and look at the drummer. Because we were singing. We were harmonizing together. Oh, okay. I thought you were doing it trying to give the crowd a little bit of ass. Oh, you know, I mean, if the crowd wants them, ass, they get some ass. I try to give the crowd what they want, you know. Sometimes you got to show some of it. I've been doing some Shannon shows before. There's never been
Starting point is 00:24:11 you work in the stage like last night. There was a little shoulder shimmy you did. I didn't even know you had that in the bag. You were twirling. You were end to end. I was telling the people I was with, he has three and a half hours left. He needs to slow down. I don't know who it was, but there was a woman that was like sitting over here. And at one point, I don't even know if you realized it. You pointed at her and went and you gave like a little, yeah. Oh, the hip thrust were out. You gave like a, and you like, but you did it like right at her. Oh, did I?
Starting point is 00:24:38 Like you pointed right at her and we're like, yeah. And her husband was sitting there and I thought, whoa, shit. I don't even remember doing that. You know, there's a lot that happened in four hours, but it very well could have. There was a point he liked it, I'm sure. You get a hip thrust. So to the man whose wife got the Shannon the dude hip thrust. She liked it.
Starting point is 00:24:57 Just know, you're not the only one. There's a lot of wives out there that have gotten Shannon the dude hip thrust over the years. We will take a break and be right back here at 10 Ruth. This is Kentucky Sports Radio. Welcome back, Kentucky Sports Radio, here live. All right, we're going to try something here. I don't know how this is going to work, but we're going to try it. We're going to do a blue-white chant.
Starting point is 00:25:33 I've got these three here, along with Lenny Bluebeard, are going to be the blue. This crowd is going to be the white. Are you ready? One, two, three. There we go. Let's get this going there. Nice job by the three of you and Lenny. You held your own.
Starting point is 00:25:55 You held your own. There you go with a huge crowd next to you. I like it. You know, Lenny Bluebeard has become the cheerleader at KS. Barr. You know, now he's here. He's got to do the same thing here. Yeah, what is KS. Barr going to do
Starting point is 00:26:04 without you here over the next three days? Somebody else is going to have to step up. Somebody else is going to have to step up at the bar. 859-280-2287. One person writes, Matt. I still haven't heard you all talk about DJ Wagner. I'm going to make you a prediction. DJ Wagner-S-C-T tournament.
Starting point is 00:26:24 MVP. What do you think about that? I agree. He's been a little overshadowed with the last couple games. I mean, Reed went off, had a couple of big games, but DJ went 0 for 15 from three over the course of a month. We wondered if that was just broken. They stopped defending him out there. It threw off the flow of the offense. Back-to-back games. He opens the game of the three-pointer. What do you have, four in Rupp Arena on senior night? His shots back, and that just completely changes his game when he's making that. He already brings the defense. He can already get to the rim, but that shot going in has been huge. DJ Wagner and Justin Edwards combined in the last three games of the season, shot 77% from three.
Starting point is 00:27:01 Silly. Which is a silly number for those guys, considering they're not even in the top three dudes shooting three. Yeah, I consider they were struggling for a large part of the season. Now they are money there at the end of the game. I like DJ the way at the end of the game, too. He's a good free throw shooter, kind of pretty handy defender, so I like him at the end of the game. He could get it, but the problem is he's going up against the guy who scores 20. points are better every single game in Antonio Reeves, and it's hard not to give the MVP to somebody
Starting point is 00:27:26 like that. Let's take a prediction here on minutes. Big Z in the, let's add up, let's just say points per, or minutes per game. Does he play average more than seven and a half minutes per game at the SEC tournament? Average, I'm going to say over. Over? Yes. All right.
Starting point is 00:27:47 Rob Dillingham and Big Z in the pick and roll is beautiful basketball, and I hope. hope we continue to see that as much as possible. And I'm going to make a prediction. If we see Purdue, after that game, we will be talking about Big Z and not Zach Edy. If it gets to that point. So, yeah, you're going over. We're going to get a lot of Big Z. I'm going to say under seven-half minutes a game.
Starting point is 00:28:09 Well, here's my. Boo, back-o. Boo, I'm just, again, I hope I'm wrong. I just don't know that tonight is the night for him with the way A&M plays. And so I think he'll play a lot against Alabama. and or Tennessee, I just think tonight he might not end up playing a lot. What do you think? Alabama is when he really had a breakout.
Starting point is 00:28:28 Nate Oates, I've said this before. In that press conference, that man looked like he had seen a ghost when Kentucky scored 26. Alabama is perfect against Alabama. Like that's who he wants to play against. What do you think? Seven and a half minutes. That's it. He may not get it tonight, but if they play Alabama or Florida on Saturday, he's getting a lot of minutes, I think.
Starting point is 00:28:46 That's right. 859-2-80-2287. Who's up next? Eric is up next. Eric, go ahead, Eric. Hey, guys. So with Tennessee social media all up in arms about this, alleged, just slight those Kentucky fans are given to Dalton Connect.
Starting point is 00:29:03 Is he going to be the legend for Tennessee? Well, Dalton Connect is a great player. But Tennessee, here's what I, you all have to live down here, some of you in Nashville, and I appreciate to call. Here's what I don't like about Tennessee fans. Tennessee is really good this year. I think they're one of the five or six best teams in the country. Dalton Connect.
Starting point is 00:29:25 I think he should be SEC player of the year. Antonio Rees, for me, would be second. With all that said, let's give some facts about Tennessee basketball. Tennessee basketball has won one-fifth of the SEC titles that Kentucky has. Tennessee basketball has never been to a final four ever. Not once, ever. You want to know how many elite eights? Tennessee's basketball been to once.
Starting point is 00:29:52 They've been to one elite eight in the history of their program. And yet, the Vols have the audacity to talk any trash to us about anything. I say to Tennessee fans, and then we went on their home floor and we beat them on their home floor to end the season. My answer to Tennessee fans is, this is the best you have and you still can't beat us, so shut up, Drew Franklin. I love that. I love that.
Starting point is 00:30:19 What is the whole up, let him cook, the meme, just keep going there. Well, I'm just saying he's like, this Tennessee team is really good. Yeah. I think this Tennessee team might be like in terms of a chance to do something in the tournament, Ryan, the best team they've had in years. But they still didn't beat us. And so I don't know how they can ever talk trash. They've got a good player.
Starting point is 00:30:44 They've got a good guard. They've got some, you know, a lot of talent on there. But yeah, that second year in a year ago, they had quick. Chris Lofton Day last year we went down there and beat them on their home floor. Now they had senior day this year, we beat them on their home floor. With all that said, though, with all that said, if we play them in the finals here, that's an important game to meet. Yeah. Like we're going to go into that game and Cal and some other people are probably going to say,
Starting point is 00:31:08 oh, this game doesn't matter. Mike, do you think that game matters if we play Tennessee in the championship game? 100%. We got to beat them. Are you Shannon? And you cannot make the SEC championship that we haven't won in six years play Tennessee in Nashville. After splitting the season series, you have to win that game. You can't tell these people who came all the way down here to Nashville for the weekend that it doesn't matter because it does matter.
Starting point is 00:31:32 If it didn't, they wouldn't be here this morning at a radio show at 8 o'clock in the morning. It definitely matters to this fan base. All of these people right here, all of you, have as many final fours as Tennessee. Just remember that. Every player in the history of Tennessee could walk in right now, and there would be as many, final fours in this building is what it's just us good right now by the way the get in price the price to get in the game tonight is $225 on stubb up so if you all if you have tickets first of all if you have tickets consider yourselves very lucky and if it gets much higher I'd look at selling
Starting point is 00:32:09 them and going watching them one of these bars because I think the tickets tonight are absolutely insane what's next got joe next Joe, go ahead, Joe. Hey, Matt, first time, long time. Who are? What's up? Hey, I just have a comment. I grew up in the late, well, in the late 80s and early 90s, I played for a small mountain school,
Starting point is 00:32:30 Buckhorn High School, and we absolutely worshiped Rex Chapman. But along comes Richie Farmer who we felt was one of us, and nobody we thought to be more beloved. We played him in the Mountain Cold Classic in Knox County, and he drilled us. and but we just fell in love with him and goes on to the UK and also with Pelfrey I didn't think anybody could be more love than those guys and now comes Reed Shepard and we just feel like he's one of us and we love him and if he leads us to a final four man I don't I don't know with anyone
Starting point is 00:33:03 if he if Reed Shepard leads Kentucky to a final four he can be I mean Richie became Ag commissioner so if he didn't go to the final four if he leads us to a final four Ryan Reed can be governor if he wants. I mean, he's got that kind of in the mountains right now, and I know there's only a handful of people that scream from the mountains right now, there's never been a bigger player than Reed Shepard, certainly since Richie, and it is unbelievable to watch that kid and watch the fan reaction to him.
Starting point is 00:33:33 Kind of like Richie, they embrace being for the mountains, man. They're proud of being from the mountains, and everybody can see that, and the reflection he has represents all of us, because he was one of us. That's exactly right. Tell me about Stockton Mortgage. Stockton Mortgage.
Starting point is 00:33:45 You know, I got a closing yesterday, and the guy used Stockton mortgage, because they get you to the closing table. That's what it's all about. So before you've got out looking at houses, get pre-approved, it's easy to do. You can do it online. You're talking to the same loan officer every time you call in. They're all across the state. They're all over the place. They're easy to work with.
Starting point is 00:34:00 You won't be disappointed. Apply online at Stockton.com. NMLS. 8259, EQUAL Housand-Lender. We're going to take a break and be right back for the final segment here at Tin Roof. This is Kentucky Sports Radio. Welcome back. It is the final segment of Kentucky Sports Radio. here live in Nashville.
Starting point is 00:34:25 Drew's getting them ready. It is a packed house here, and Drew's getting the crowd pumped. Kentucky and Texas A&M. They tip off at 7 p.m. Tonight, it's time for our Draft Kings. SEC picks. You can go to Draft Kings.
Starting point is 00:34:44 Download that. promo codes KSR. Bet 5, get $150. Use the code KSR. Let's go through these games today. Mississippi State and Tennessee. Tennessee is a 9th. and a half point favorite would you go Tennessee or Mississippi State against the spread I would take
Starting point is 00:34:59 Mississippi State with the spread not and a half I like Mississippi State to cover that nine and a half that Josh Hubbard is fun to watch yeah I'd take Mississippi State the points on that one that's that number is pretty high to me but I'll go Tennessee to be different here and just think they're going to get a hot game and then fizzle out as the weekend goes on a huge game with uh this afternoon 2 30 central time South Carolina and Auburn Auburn is a seven and a half point What do you got? South Carolina has really fallen off. I think I'm going to take Auburn to win big in this one today.
Starting point is 00:35:30 You won't win big? Yeah. All right. I'm going to take Auburn, too. I mean, Kentucky had that big win down there, but there's still a very dangerous team that we're not really talking about much. South Carolina looked tired to be, even for having played the two games, even though they won. I'm going to take – I'm going to take – I'm going to take – or they only play one game. Excuse me.
Starting point is 00:35:47 I still thought that game was close for a little bit. I'm still taking Auburn. Yeah, they didn't look great yesterday, so I'm going to take Auburn also. Yeah. And then finally, Florida and Alabama is the late game tonight. It'll be on during our postgame show. I actually think that's going to be a great game. Alabama's a four and a half point favorite.
Starting point is 00:36:04 Shannon, I'm picking Florida to win. I'm picking Florida to upset and beat Alabama tonight. I like that pick. Alabama hasn't been the same since Kentucky put that ass whoop on him in Rupp Arena. So I'm going to say that Florida wins the game. Wow, that's very naughty of you there, isn't it, Shannon? We've already talked about me shaking my ass, so we can talk about some ass kicking. He's such a rock.
Starting point is 00:36:24 Such a rock star. All right, what about you? I mean, I can't go against you. Florida is going to hip thrust Alabama tonight and knock them out of the tournament. What about you? Oh, yeah, we pick Florida this morning. I'm going Florida, yep. Yeah, I'm going to take, I'm taking Florida.
Starting point is 00:36:40 So we all are going with the Gators. And then Kentucky will do that pick right here at the end. Who is your, I mentioned Antonio Reeves. Anybody have a pick besides him for MVP of the SEC tournament? That feels like the odds on favor to pick. Again, for what we just said, I mean, the guy quietly scores 20 plus every game. It's hard to pick against the guy like that. Which big man, Ryan, is going to have the best SEC tournament for us?
Starting point is 00:37:02 Bradshaw, Hugo, or Z? If I had to pick, knowing what you're going to play probably Alabama or Florida tomorrow, I'm picking Z. May not get the ton of minutes tonight, but the rest of the tournament, he could get a lot of minutes. Said it's just a minute ago. It's Big Z time. Put him in that pick and roll and let's go. The SEZ tournament. SEZ?
Starting point is 00:37:20 Brent of shirts. But really, if someone makes those, I need to cut it. Honestly, if Kentucky Brandon makes him, you'll make money. But go ahead. Yeah, yeah. I think on Yenzo, not necessarily for his offensive game, but I think just defensively what he brings to the table, I think he's going to be our most valuable.
Starting point is 00:37:35 I think, you know, remember, we just beat Tennessee on their court, and our big men scored a combined zero points. They scored zero points, and we beat them on our court. For me, it's all going to be about defense in this tournament for the bigs. and I think especially tonight. I'll be honest with you, tonight's game worries me more than the rest of the tournament. A&M is desperate. They are playing for the NCAA.
Starting point is 00:38:02 I think for Kentucky, when they see Alabama, when they see Auburn, when they see Florida, when they see Tennessee, they're going to bring it no matter what. Will they bring it tonight? Will they bring it against an A&M team that is desperate, Ryan? Tonight is the game I'm worried about more. than almost any of the rest of them in the tournament. And we'll know right at the beginning, you know, if they're going to come in and push us around
Starting point is 00:38:25 and kill us on the boards again, we're going to get a pretty good indication early. Whereas the Tennessee game, Ugo kind of stopped Tennessee from doing that to it. I think Ugo's the key. Yeah. Ugo, he doesn't need to score, but Ugo against Tennessee protected the rim at the beginning. He left them out there shooting from the outside,
Starting point is 00:38:42 and that made a huge difference in the game. In that Tennessee game, Kentucky could not make a basket, but Ugo had two blocks and a dew had two. two blocks. One of them, Ugo went up in Palm-Dalton-Connects jumper that he got that Durant form. That really set the tone early where they're getting stops when Kentucky wasn't scoring on the other end. I'm huge on Ugo in this tournament. I think in order to win, he's going to have to play really well. Stay out of foul trouble. Another thing, Rob Dillingham's got to stay out of foul trouble. He's kind of quietly been in foul trouble in a lot of these games. It's part of the
Starting point is 00:39:14 reason his minutes haven't been that high. He needs to stay out of foul trouble because we're going need his points. Who's up next? Got Chase up next. Chase. Go ahead, Chase. What's up, BB in Nashville? Who knew? Who knew that Chase would be able to get a pop like that? I guess it's your NIL golf deal that did it, but go ahead.
Starting point is 00:39:38 What do you think is the most underrated part of this team headed into the tournament? I do. And also, we do have our LWC Golf Home Tournament. Okay, that's, I'm sorry, I can't get into Lewinsey-Welson home golf right now. There's a lot going on. I appreciate the call. I think Adoo's the most underrated player that we have. Completely agree, and he has turned a corner.
Starting point is 00:40:00 He's kind of been robbed because he has these great games, and then Justin Edwards goes 10 for 10, and we focus on him. Or he has another great game, and Reeves and Shepard have 27, and it's like, Adu's playing so well, but we're focusing on these great performances. It shows the depth, for one, but he's had a great run in the last month, that's it. And also, Adu plays with like this aggression that I don't think anybody else on the team can really match. He brings a lot of energy, which I think brings up the entire team's energy. I think Adu is the kind of guy that you miss him when he's not there. And remember, when we played A&M, he was not there.
Starting point is 00:40:32 And I think he, I'm not, I mean, we've had a lot of games, guys have missed. But I think what Adu does, nobody else on the team really does well. That's right. And in a game like tonight, that's huge. It's very important for him to bring that physicality to where we're missing. All right. So let's go over the next three days for those of you in Nashville. Our pregame show is at 4.30 Eastern, 3.30 Central.
Starting point is 00:40:54 The game's at 7. If we win, I'll probably sit on the stage downstairs after the game and do the postgame. Tomorrow, Kentucky, if they win, would play the second game, which would be at 3.30 if they win against the winner of Alabama and Florida. For those of you that are in town and you wanted something to do, tomorrow night, Kentucky's women's gymnastics team, whose top five in the country, plays in their final meet, I guess, of the year at Vanderbilt. So the Kentucky gymnastics team is actually here. If you've never been them, they'll be, I think all the best teams in the SEC are in Nashville.
Starting point is 00:41:31 I want to say, is LSU here too? I didn't know about this, but they sort of beer there. Let's go have a party. So that's in Nashville on Saturday night, and then, of course, Kentucky will play after. You're not going to hear from me again, except for pre and post game, so a few other things. We'll be doing pre-imposed for all three of these games. I will be hosting the ESPN bracket selection show on the radio between me and you. 20 or 30 minutes before the brackets come out,
Starting point is 00:41:58 I'm going to put some kind of emoji out maybe that tells you how I feel about our draw. Don't tell anybody I said that. A little eggplant? No, just like, I'm not going to put an eggplant. Hey, that's going to be a good path. I know. For the people that don't listen to this show, if they just see me put out an eggplant, Shannon, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:42:16 that that's going to be the best look in the world. That could be our winking face. Yeah, I'm not putting that an eggplant. Come on. You should think we need an eggplant. There's not going to be an eggplant. But there will be, I will put some sort of a emoji that gives you a notion of it. And then we will be back Monday morning.
Starting point is 00:42:32 So there's a lot going on over the next few days. Games here, draft kegs, you also have KSpar in Lexington. Now with all that said, Kentucky is a five and a half point favorite tonight against Texas A&M. It opened at three and a half immediately. went up to five and a half. So the early money was all on Kentucky. When I heard it was three and a half, that seemed low to me. Five and a half seems about right. Let's just pick it to win or not. Give me the score, Shannon the dude and the MVP, Kentucky and Texas A&M. Kentucky is going to win tonight, 9386. And I mean, I think the obvious pick is Antonio Reeves. I'm going to go with Reeves.
Starting point is 00:43:08 All right, Drew. I mean, obviously Kentucky's winning. Let's not be silly here. This is going to be a magical run. I think they win big. It would be a little more low scoring with the way they play, but I'll call it 81-64. 8164. Who's your MVP? Well, Big Z. It's the SEZ tournament. SEZ. All right, what about you?
Starting point is 00:43:28 I'm going to go Kentucky 87-77, and we kind of stole my thunder. I think a dude may not be the leading score, but he may be the most valuable player in the game tonight. All right. So my Don Franklin Auto pick of the day. Go to Don Franklin Auto for your vehicle. Let's see, I forgot to do that at. Do your vehicle needs? There's locations all over the state.
Starting point is 00:43:47 You can get the best price, the best selection. It's all at Don Franklin. There's one near you, and when you go, tell them KSR sent you. It's don Franklin Auto.com. I have to tell you, it was four years ago, two days ago, that we ended up getting taken away from this tournament. And Kentucky basketball, unfortunately, since that day, really hasn't felt the same.
Starting point is 00:44:07 The world, in some ways, didn't feel the same for a while, but Kentucky basketball really hasn't. And then about four or five weeks ago, it started to click in. Then about four or five weeks ago, the thing that we also loved so much, you started to feel it again. And I really have a belief. I'm not just saying this. I think we're in for a special four weeks. I think I'm going to be seeing a lot of you in Phoenix in four weeks.
Starting point is 00:44:28 I think this team is feeling it. I think it's the right group. There's a kid from Kentucky on it. We only win titles when kids from Kentucky play a big role in it. The cats win tonight, 81, 72, and in four weeks, they're playing in the final four against somebody in Phoenix, Arizona. Thank you folks from Tian Rue. Thanks to Kentucky Brandon. Thanks to Country Boy Brewing.
