Starting point is 00:00:00 Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and Friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter.
Starting point is 00:00:23 Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and Friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where SportsSlice comes in. I'm Timbo, and every episode we're cutting through the noise, breaking down the biggest moments in sports and giving you the real story behind the headline. And we're going straight to the source, the athletes themselves, their locker room stories, their reactions in the moment, and the stuff nobody gets to hear. Listen to Sports Slice on the Iheart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 00:01:00 And for more, follow Timbo Slica Life 12 in the TikTok podcast network on TikTok. What's up, guys? This is Clivert Taylor the 4th. And on my podcast, The Clivert Show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff. Like being an internet famous referee. We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me.
Starting point is 00:01:19 He goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Time out. Quarterback on office blue with 42. A rep, my mama want you to wave at her. What? Where's she at? Hey, Miss Parker.
Starting point is 00:01:38 Listen to the Clifford Show on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. Yes, this hour we are giving away. Where is my sheet? I don't have it here.
Starting point is 00:03:06 Sauceritas a $50 party pack for Sauceritas. Yes, Sauceritas, by the way, I think one of the more underrated spots to go. Best Koso in Kentucky is at Salceritas. So thank you to them. $50 gift card to somebody. We'll do that drawing in just a little bit. Thanks to all of our friends at Salceritas. You know, for all the talk, Ryan, people say of, oh, college basketball.
Starting point is 00:03:30 It's not the same. It's this. They just put out the numbers. College basketball, the men's selection show, had a double-digit increase in viewership, and it was the highest game viewers in 10 years for the Big Ten, ACC, Big East and Mountain West title games. The SEC one was down, probably, though,
Starting point is 00:03:51 because Kentucky and Tennessee weren't in it. But pretty much everyone else went up. So college basketball, doing much better than a lot of times people act like. Wow, and you know, that's with all of the big-name schools got beat early in their conference tournament. Kentucky, Duke, North Carolina, Purdue, you know, some of these. North Carolina made the finals. They made the finals of theirs. Who was the other number one?
Starting point is 00:04:12 Duke and was it Houston? Did Houston make the finals or did they get beat in the semifinals? Houston lost in the finals. But like you're probably thinking of Kansas, they lost early on. But yeah, I mean. Crazy. All those numbers were high and all the big-name schools were out. Yes.
Starting point is 00:04:24 The only one that was down was the Auburn, Florida title game. and that one ended up not even being very close. So I expect huge ratings for the NCAA tournament. And there's going to be huge ratings for the women's tournament with the whole Caitlin Clark effect. No doubt. You know, all the stuff, all the chatter. And Drew, I get it, the sort of complaints about NIL and all that, the transfer portal. But once the games are played, it just doesn't enter my mind.
Starting point is 00:04:50 And I think that's true, Drew, of most fans. Yeah, I mean, you're not paying attention to your game. if you're watching it and worrying about portals and all the other stuff. A lot of it can be distracting middle of the week when we don't have a game to watch and it can be a lot. But when they tip it off, if you're a passionate fan, you're 100% in on what's happening with the basketball. And on your point about the women's bracket,
Starting point is 00:05:13 if they get the Final Four they could get, that could be unbelievable ratings for that sport this year with all the teams and star power they have. Iowa and LSU ended up in the same region. That part stunk. but you still get some good matchups. You can still get, I mean, they could get Iowa in South Carolina, but they're not, they may get Iowa and LSU in a regional,
Starting point is 00:05:37 which will be a huge number, but it's still not. I'm sure part of them wishes that they could have gotten that in the final four. All right, did you ask, do you think we can say your little scuttlebutt scoop, Ryan? Drew reached out and didn't get a definite answer. kind of a wishy-washy answer, whether we should say it or not. I know the scoop, but if it were my name attached to it, I would probably hold it in. But we all know Scoop Lemon, this is when he shines.
Starting point is 00:06:06 Well, that's a question. All right? So, Ryan, I mean, ultimately, you got the text, right? Yes. Drew and I both got. So it's ultimately, Shannon, don't you think it should be his decision and his responsibility one way or the other? Yeah, I think we put this on Ryan. I know it's a big burden right here live on the radio, but Ryan, I think you need to make a decision.
Starting point is 00:06:24 Ryan. I think, listen, you're the journalist. Me and Drew and Shannon are just like yappers. You're the man with a long history and journalism. You've been nominated for Emmys. Did you ever win an Emmy? No, no. They didn't even nominate it. We had to pay for our nomination back in those days, and our sports department refused to pay for, to nominate ourselves. Come on, color. Wait a minute. Hang on just a second. I didn't know this. Back then, you could be nominated if you just paid? You had to pay the entry fee to nominate a show. show or a segment or a story that we did. I think that's how radio works too for awards. You have to actually pay to be nominated. Yeah. Well, I've never done that. I've never paid. That's why we never win anything. We were nominated for, we were nominated for Hey, Kentucky, and I won the one in me and I didn't pay. So yeah, the station, I think, got to
Starting point is 00:07:12 nominate like maybe two, but anything over two you had to pay for itself. And of course, they never wanted to nominate anything for sports. Never. So we'd like, well, screw that then. We're not going to pay our entry fee. We just walk away. But you get a lot of credibility. So you're saying you didn't win an Emmy because you chose not to participate. That's correct. Or my trophy case would have just been packed with them back in those day. How many? How many would you have? At least five or six. I think so. You'd have five or six. Oh, because I had Alan Cutler as my co-anchor on the Friday night show. Of course we would have. Yeah. So basically the only thing that has kept you from being Merrill Streep is you wouldn't pay the entry fee.
Starting point is 00:07:48 Yeah, we did. We refused to pay the entry fee. Okay. Well, that's interesting. All right. So, show Would you like to showcase your five or six Emmy potential, or would you rather pass and let it go? You're talking about this little story we're talking about right now? What else would I be talking about? Yes. I mean, do you want to drop the scoop you got or no? I think this is what we need to say,
Starting point is 00:08:14 that it's no secret. Preston Spradland at Moorhead State has done a great job, and there are other schools going to come after him. But he's got a big game to play right now, so if their school is coming after him, he would probably prefer we hold off until after they play. But Shannon is. You literally just said what it is.
Starting point is 00:08:29 He literally just said the scoop. No. You just said what you didn't say which school specifically. I mean, but you didn't say which school. Okay, now wait a minute. Shannon, this is what I'm saying. Yeah. The thing that's going to be an issue is not where he's going.
Starting point is 00:08:43 It's the first part of it, right? The fact that somebody wants him to go to their school to be the next head coach. I don't think that's a secret. You gave away. You gave away the bigger thing, Ryan, and you haven't said the other things. This is why you have no Emmys. That's true. That's why I didn't win any of those Emmys?
Starting point is 00:09:01 The setup wasn't there. That's exactly right, Drew. That is why they didn't pay his entry fee for the Emmys. Was that right there? Well, I mean, he didn't give all the scoop. I mean, he just gave you a little tease. And something that we all are aware of that other schools are going to come after him because the job he's done at Moorhead State.
Starting point is 00:09:20 Do you think the schools that would come would be like in the southern part of their states? My geography is not the greatest man. I don't know. I kind of feel like, Drew, if there was going to be a school come after him, it would be in the southern part of the state. You know what I mean? Because he's always kind of been a southern guy. Maybe, I don't know. I just hope Moorhead plays well.
Starting point is 00:09:43 I like Preston. He's been a great coach. And I will always be a fan of him wherever he goes, even if there's some directions in If a southern part of the state school came after him, Matt, I felt like he would listen. I feel like if it was a southern part of a state that was a blue state, that's probably what I'm guessing. A blue state in the southern part, that feels like the kind of place that he might end up going. I don't know my blue from red states, so that doesn't help me at all. Well, you can look at all.
Starting point is 00:10:17 You can look at up when the thing is over. There is a lot of scuttle butt, maybe even scoop out there, that Dusty May of Florida Atlantic could end up the next Louisville coach. Now, they still play as well this weekend. Let's say that were to happen, Drew. And Louisville gets Dusty May, who went to the final four last year, but it also must be noted could have lost in the first round on a tip-in to Memphis. They got fortunate, got a tip-in at the buzzer.
Starting point is 00:10:47 Do you think that would be a good hire for the Louisville Cardinals? I think it'd be a great hire. I think they should do it now. If they need help getting it done, I'll throw in a little bit. I want them to do that. I'm not saying he'll be bad. I have no idea, but that is kind of the example of what we did with Billy G. You just had a guy who had a great year, and you're like, well, let's just give this dude the keys.
Starting point is 00:11:05 And for me, I would want someone with a little more proven success. Now, maybe if it is him, he is good. But so far, they're just kind of hanging on to what he did last season, I would think, for that resume. But how long, Drew, until they start the hashtag, like, Dusty, go to dust your face or something? like they did with Kenny won those games. You know that's coming. They're going to talk themselves into it. Well, after they delete their Scott Drews and Jay Wrights and Billy Donovans and everyone
Starting point is 00:11:29 else they listed, I guess they can start tweeting how excited they were about Dusty May. I didn't see his name, by the way. I mentioned a lot when they were first talking about all this. He was always the guy. Their plan was to go. I put this out and everybody was like, oh, man, has no more sources. Their plan was to go after to Scott Drew. and then Dusty May was like the next choice.
Starting point is 00:11:50 And Ryan, I think that that will be, assuming they finalize it, I think that'll probably be the next coach at Lord. Like you said, he is the hot, young coaching name out there right now that it would be the sexy hire like Gillespie was when Kentucky hired him. So I can see why they would make a run at him and we'll just wait and see if... I don't think it's certain that he fails. But if you take a guy like him, you're taking a risk. That might work, but you're taking a risk.
Starting point is 00:12:17 I mean, you know, he did make a final four, but he also could have easily lost in the first round. And if that happened, nobody would be trying to hire him. So, you know, it's a risk. If I'm global at this point, I'm going after somebody that is proven that I know is going to win there. Who is that that will come there, though? Well, that's the question. I don't know who would come there.
Starting point is 00:12:37 I mean, obviously Scott Drew was number one on their list. I don't think he's going there. But I don't know if you take, especially after coming off what you just had the last couple of years, taking a chance on a guy like Dusty May is a big, risk. At least I'm like Kenny, he's won somewhere, right? Kenny had never won any way. He's one more than 12 games, yes. Yeah, so. All right, who's up next?
Starting point is 00:12:55 Will is up next. Will, go ahead, Will. Good morning. CBS College Sports had a two-hour bracket show last night. Wally Zurbiac was the only one that I could identify. There was two other gentlemen. Anyway, long story short, all
Starting point is 00:13:14 three of them picked Kentucky to get to all they took in each bracket out to the lead eight. They all had Kentucky getting to the lead eight. But Wally Zerviak basically said that Coach Cal, a Hall of Fame coacher, if he can't do anything with this roster and this team, that it may be time to think about somebody else. I thought that was a startling comment last night.
Starting point is 00:13:38 Oh, did he said that on the air? Yes, he did. Yes, he did. He said, Cal better do something. He loved this team. He said he loved this team, and it had the town. and Cal better do something with his team. Well, let me put it a different way, and I appreciate the call.
Starting point is 00:13:55 You know, you remember, Ryan, when Tubby Smith was here? Yes. What was the moniker that people like to call it? They like to say 10 lost tubby. 10 lost tough. Yep. Unless we win the title, Ryan, we're going to have a 10-loss season. And a 10-loss season with a heck of a roster.
Starting point is 00:14:12 I do think, I don't know if people will say what Wally did, but there will be people who are like, How much more can you do? I mean, yesterday on first take, yesterday on first take, there was a segment of, has Cal underachieved in Stephen A and Shannon Sharp and the other guy who was on. Jay Williams all said yes, Seth Greenberg was the only one taken up for Cal. We all know this roster. And this is a roster that can win you a championship.
Starting point is 00:14:40 And we kept saying even before the season, Cal has his guys. This is his kind of guy, his roster. So if they fail this time, I mean, there's nowhere else to point the finger than right at him. There's no doubt. So what Drew is failure? Well, I remember before the year we wanted to have a good regular season. I would say that that's kind of up in the air. Some people were fine with it, you know, whatever.
Starting point is 00:15:04 But I think at this point, if you're not in the, I won't even say, like in the elite eight, I know you still would have to have Marquette in that situation, but this is the year. You wore the T-shirt with their names. You got the path you wanted. You got the coaching staff. What more do you need to make a run with Kentucky basketball at this stage? Drew, I'll lead with you and then Shannon and Ryan. If you were to give a grade on this team going into the NCAA tournament for the year,
Starting point is 00:15:34 just a grade, a letter grade, what do you give it? Drew, you go first. I will go B. I wish they had done more in Nashville, even though I know that doesn't matter. I just think if you're a good team heading into March, you need to beat Texas A&N. when you have the whole crowd. And I know people don't care about November games. I would like to win the Champions Classic one more time in my life.
Starting point is 00:15:55 So that's my punishing them in that early game. Even though they're injured, it's a small deducting points. But overall, I'll give them a B because, I mean, they did have some great wins. I just wish they had a little more magic in some of the bigger games. I agree with you on that. Yeah, I would go B as well. I mean, they've had some big wins. They've also had some disappointing losses with the roster that you have.
Starting point is 00:16:14 I think that they've slightly underachieved, but I think that they've got a good path to make a good run here in the tournament, so I'm going to go B. All right, what about you, Ryan? Before Friday's loss, I may be leaning even high B plus, low A minus. I mean, I felt like they were playing as good as anybody in the country. They were a fluke shot away from having an eight-game winning street going into the SEC tournament. But after the SEC tournament, now I think I'm with these guys and give them a B.
Starting point is 00:16:38 I want to remind you, I still have Kentucky in the championship game. All right, so I think Kentucky, because of draw, I think they can make the championship game, that's what I'm picking. With that said, I would say up to this point B minus, because I was going to say B plus B in the regular season, but I think the loss to A&M and the way they lost was awful. Yeah. And so when you consider another year where we don't win the SEC, the Tennessee and Auburn Road wins are really, really great wins, but I'm still probably going to say a B minus, but I think they can win, I think they can win the title. So it's really, really strange that you have that regular season, but you could still go win the whole thing. If you're looking to expand your
Starting point is 00:17:24 professional network or you want to meet young people who are going to try to make their careers better across the state, go to the inaugural Kentucky Chamber Young Professional Summit, Tuesday, April 23rd in Louisville. It's kYchamber.com slash events, bringing Kentucky's best and brightest young professionals together. If you want to meet, network, this is the time. KYchamber.com slash events, the young professional summit. We'll take a break and be right back. This is KSR.
Starting point is 00:18:02 Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio. 859-28027. Have you heard anything Ryan on the women's basketball thing about what the, where we are with that search? I haven't. I really haven't heard much of anything. No, it's kind of been hush, hush, what's going on when they're in their search
Starting point is 00:18:18 right now. so I haven't heard anything yet. I haven't heard anything. Drew, what did you think of the Anthony Edwards dunk last night? My goodness. I mean, he was already my favorite non-Kentucky player in the league. Heck, he's probably going to be the face of the league soon. He's not already.
Starting point is 00:18:32 But that right there was even crazy by his standards, and he's done some crazy things. One of the best dunks ever. It was pretty nice. What would you do, Shannon, if you were the other guy? The guy. Retire. Like, you were posterized.
Starting point is 00:18:47 Oh, I'm watching it again right now. God. Yeah. And then it now, Brandon Knight used to be the guy who had it the worst. Yes, that was a terrible one. That screenshot where he is just so much over the guy and he's about to dunk it in, that's going to be a poster everywhere. And remember, the Brandon Knight was DeAndre Jordan,
Starting point is 00:19:05 who was like a foot taller than Brandon Knight. In this one, Anthony Edwards dunked over a guy that's taller than he is. Oh, my. Yeah. That was John Collins, who is probably at least four or five inches taller than Anthony. If you're John Collins and you see Anthony Edwards coming in, what's your end game? Like, do you think you're going to block that shot? Why not just get out of the way?
Starting point is 00:19:25 So is that what you would do? Is just getting out of the way? I mean, what are you going to do? You're not going to do a thing. You might as well just let them have it. It's only two points. At least you have your dignity. Yeah, exactly.
Starting point is 00:19:37 I just let them have it. At least you have your dignity. That's a good way to look at it. Who's next, Rick? Got Tom up next. Tom, go ahead, Tom. 859, 2,80, 27. have it. All right. Let me just kind of just time in on that really quick. I think if you run away from a dunk, I think that's like worse than like if you actually like.
Starting point is 00:19:55 But you don't end up on a poster. Nobody makes a poster of you running away. Yeah, don't run away. Just step to the side. One step to the left. I mean, that's still like you, I'd like to take that. I mean, I'm going to do that. Come on, Ryan. Oh man, I feel weird. Anyway, so this is like worse than Matt Jones, you know, grabbing JJ Redick's fifth. I do got a couple comments and, well, a comment and then a question. Matt, I got to give you your flowers. I think earlier in the year after the Kansas law, he said that if Edwards and I can't remember,
Starting point is 00:20:35 I think Bradshaw isn't good, then I don't think that we're really going to be that good. I think that is true to that statement right now. I'm not saying that we're not good. I just think that we're not as good as what we think we can do. We hit our stride. If you think about it, we hit our stride when Edwards started playing well, right? Exactly. These last seven or eight games skipped Texas A&M. But those last eight games, we played well, and it really was kind of when Edwards turned it on. Bradshaw still hadn't been in it. But Edwards, to me, was a huge, and I think in the tournament, we're going to need him just like we did towards the end of the regular season. But go ahead. second comment everybody is a nerd here i mean everybody who's listening to the show and that's not a positive
Starting point is 00:21:21 that's not a negative that's a positive like we're all kentucky nerds it's all right we're fine with this isn't the 60s 70s and 80s that's not a bad thing anymore this is that's right tell him about it Shannon will not accept his inner nerd and geekdom and he doesn't like it but the reality is he's a nerd and so are we exactly And then third off, this is my question. I don't know if you guys talked about it in the postgame show after the A&M loss or anything like that. But Reed saying that this loss was on them rather than the coaching staff. Do you think that this was just lip service of him being like, okay, I realize how much the coaching.
Starting point is 00:21:59 That's players. I appreciate the call. That's players taking up for their coach, which I'm fine with. I think that's actually a good sign for a program. When the coach takes up for the players, the players take up for the coach. I'm good with all that. And I have to say, Ryan, I think that's actually healthy that Reed and Reeves said that after the game. I totally agree with you.
Starting point is 00:22:20 Yes, taking a little ownership because they know they didn't play their best, but you can't pass the buck. And I hate it when players blame the coach and coaches blame the players. Man, you're all in the same boat. You're all in the same team. That's right. So Reed Shepherd Drew, Wayman Tisdale, freshman of the year. This is the main freshman of the year award.
Starting point is 00:22:40 had told you in September that Reed Shepard would be national freshman of the year. Would you have believed it? Nope. I don't think Jeff and Stacey would have believed it. I don't believe Reed would have believed it. I think this whole season has been a wow moment for everyone with him. Not that we didn't think he'd be good and contribute, but just these mock drafts taking the overall freshman award, the all-conference stuff a year ago.
Starting point is 00:23:04 I don't think anyone saw that in Reed Shepard. It's just a testament to the hard work and how well he's played. So let's go get some more trophies for him in these next few weeks. By the way, Ryan, I'm sitting here in my little studio. Yeah. I can hear the first take studio is on the other side of this wall. I can hear Stephen A scream. No, I'm not kidding.
Starting point is 00:23:26 I can literally hear him screaming. He's ranking, I'm looking on this TV. He's ranking the all-time, most exciting college basketball players. And I can hear him screaming through this. We're looking at him. Yeah, we're actually watching it. We're watching the TV. You can hear him.
Starting point is 00:23:39 screaming what I can hear through this wall. I mean, literally, he is yelling like, and this is a soundproof room, Shannon. You know that they have in radio? Well, it's not a Stephen A proof room, though. They must not be a Stephen A proof room because I can hear him yelling through this wall. It's not an ESPN show unless somebody's screaming and yelling at you. So, yeah, that's his thing. He's got Jordan at number three.
Starting point is 00:24:01 I can't wait to say he was two and one on here. Now we're watching the set just picturing you on the other side of the wall. Kenny Anderson number two. Yeah, look, seriously, look to his, if you're watching. watching it. Look to his left. Okay. Look to his left hand. That wall, I'm on the other side of that wall. We see you. I feel like, just poke your head out. I'm waving at you right now. I feel like I can almost see you through the wall. They just cut the highlights. Maybe you did get through. I'm on the other side of the wall of his left hand screaming and I can hear him yelling about Kitty Anderson.
Starting point is 00:24:35 By the way, how about Ryan? He gives props at number four to Chris Jackson. I, I think Chris Jackson, for my money, is maybe the most exciting college basketball player of all the time. During that era, there was nobody, no better score in college basketball than Chris Jackson. There's no doubt. For the kids, you guys don't remember Chris Jackson, but the way older people talk about Pistol Pete, Chris Jackson was like that. For a program that's never won anything, LSU has had some of the most exciting players between Shaq, Pete Marevich, Bob Petit, Chris Jackson, all of them.
Starting point is 00:25:10 That program's been amazing as to who they put out. We'll take a break. Be right back. Hopefully Stephen A will keep you on on the other side of his wall. It's KSR. Welcome back.
Starting point is 00:25:42 It is Kentucky Sports Radio. 859-280-2287. There we go. I like listening to those folks in Louisville giving it up at Martin's Barbecue Joint. Ryan, tell people about Martin's Barbecue Joint, the sponsor of this here Marathon Monday, Tuesday.
Starting point is 00:25:56 It's just off the Gene Snyder and Westport Road, and they brought out some barbecue ribs during the commercial break. Oh, my God. Oh, my goodness. Are they good? Oh, it's falling off the bone ribs. It's fantastic.
Starting point is 00:26:08 They're so good. Making me jealous. I was getting excited for my new, like pizza out here in New York, and now I'm thinking about that, that would be better. That's one thing, you know, you can get any kind of food drew in New York, but you can't get good barbecue. There's just, I've never found a place that's good here that does it. Have you?
Starting point is 00:26:24 Brooklyn thinks they have good barbecue. They're trying, bless their hearts. But Martins is very good. I'll be back. Also, lots of Titans things here. Rob Barronis connection. old Titans legend from Louisville. Well, good.
Starting point is 00:26:35 How about our draft kings? This is going to be our draft king's picks of the day. We'll do this every day during the NCAA tournament. Tonight is the first four. We'll start out, Shannon. Wagner versus Howard, two teams that you probably don't know a ton about. Wagner and Howard, who you got, Shannon? Yeah, I don't know anything about either one of these schools.
Starting point is 00:26:55 So I'm just going to just flip a coin. I'm going to say Wagner's going to win tonight. I don't know why I like Wagner. Wagner. You shouldn't. You shouldn't. I'm taking Howard. I've never met a Howard I didn't like.
Starting point is 00:27:06 Howard Stern, Howard Sprague. Howard Finkel. Howard Finkel? What other Howard's? J.W. hired that we sang on that, on the fade this podcast. Can you think of any other howards?
Starting point is 00:27:19 Howard the Duck? I'm out of Howard. Any Howard's Ryan? Oh, yeah. Josiah is one of his best friends, Howard Carter. He's up at my house all the time. Howard Cocell.
Starting point is 00:27:30 Howard Cocell. Yep. So what about Wagner's? We got DJ Wagner on the team. That's true. That's true. I'm still taking Howard. If you can think of a Howard, 7-7-2-7-7-4-5-254.
Starting point is 00:27:42 Who you got, Drew Wagner or Howard? If I'm not mistaken, Wagner's a slight dog, but I have more confidence in Shannon's coin flip than either team, so I'm siding with his pick, Wagner. Wagner, what about you, right? I got to go Howard. The Howard Carter's of the world are going to beat the DJ Wagner's of the world. Imagine the entire team full of DJ Wagner.
Starting point is 00:28:01 That's what Wagner basically. That's what they have. I'm taking an entire team of Howard's. CoSell, although he's dead. He'll still play well. Do you think Howard Stern could back somebody down to the paint? Stern's tall, right? He can do.
Starting point is 00:28:14 Colorado State and Virginia, both teams playing in tonight. Who you got, Ryan? I think most people didn't even think Virginia was going to get in, right? I'm not even sure they deserve to be in. I don't know absolutely nothing about Colorado State, but they have to play a little better basketball than Virginia does. I'm going Colorado State with the upset. For the sake of humanity, Colorado State needs to win, so I'm picking them.
Starting point is 00:28:37 Drew. I'm also going to Colorado State because I assume the fat kid and the RAM outfit from like 10 tournaments ago is still in the crowd willing them through. So I'm rooting for them. All right, Shannon. I'm going to be the one person, I guess, that picks Virginia. Again, I don't think they deserve to be in it, but I think they're going to take advantage of the opportunity. And they're going to win tonight. You're going to eat it.
Starting point is 00:28:57 Howard Cunningham from Happy Days. How about that? Yeah. Howie Long, that's a Howard, I guess. And then the hotel, Howard Johnson, William Howard Taft. Howie Mandel? Yeah, I'm going to say, if we get Howey's, we get Mandel. That's right.
Starting point is 00:29:11 Those are all, so keep bringing in your Howard's, and we'll see who the best ones are. One person writes Matt, I just saw and listened to you to Stephen A scream, his top five most exciting college basketball players. Who are the top five most exciting UK players of your life, not best, exciting. Okay, that's a good question. So here's what I'll do. I'm going to have to think about the order.
Starting point is 00:29:38 But when I think exciting, Ryan, here's who comes to mind. Malik Monk comes to mind for me for exciting. Right, like you didn't know what was going to happen with him. Yeah, good choice. Rob Dillingham comes to mind as exciting. Just like, oh my goodness. I think Jody Meeks, because the way he could shoot and come off
Starting point is 00:29:57 and just do crazy stuff is exciting. to me. Rex Chapman, I think it has to be on that list if you're talking about just excitement. Those are the four on the, oh, Kenny Walker. Kenny Skywalker for me is on that list too. So for me, excitement is either can fill it up and shoot crazy shots or can dunk on your face. So if I'm taking that list and I'm open to changing it, I'm going to say Rex one, I'm going to say Kenny Walker, two, Dillingham three, Monk four, Meeks, five. What about you?
Starting point is 00:30:36 I'm probably going to have to squeeze Derek Anderson into my top five. Oh, I like that one. Who you take out of my own? That's the thing. I'd hate to take out Meeks or Monk, but I'm having, I also like John Wall. I was going to have John Wall in.
Starting point is 00:30:53 Jody Meeks you're out. John Wall is in. I'm actually taking John Wall all the way up to number two. I don't know how I, You know what, John Wall is my number one. Number one. I was surprised you didn't say him. You know, I just forgot about it.
Starting point is 00:31:05 I don't know how I forgot. So I'm going wall, Rex, Walker, Dillingham, Monk. That's mine. Anybody else got one? I'm going to go, I'm going to go Rex, Wall, Derek Anderson, Kenny Walker, and then I may put Dillingham in there at this point. All right. I like it.
Starting point is 00:31:23 Drew, what about you? The moment you brought up the exercise, I had a firm three that it cannot be debated, and it's wall. Monk and Dillingham. After that, I can be talked to in a lot. I might even go add one from the same team and put Deeran Fox with Monk. Ooh, I like that one. I mean, what he did to Lonzo Ball, that was about as exciting as basketball gets.
Starting point is 00:31:44 So I don't disagree with any of you all have, but I'll add Fox to the conversation. What about, I'll throw another one out there. I don't think he's in my top five, but he'd be close. How about Reed Shepherd? I mean, to be quite frank with you, just the way he can get it going and light it up and steal, I think he's in the conversation. Shannon, do you have any you would add? Jamel Martinez.
Starting point is 00:32:04 He was always very exciting. No, I think your list is actually really good. I would put Reed in there, but as we mentioned in the first hour, he's going to start shooting the ball more. But when he does shoot, it is always exciting to watch the ball. All right, so I'm going, I think my final one is going to be Wall, Rex, Kenny, Monk, Dillingham. I like that list a lot.
Starting point is 00:32:27 Those are fun dudes to watch. The Deeran Fox is a great edition by Drew. Who's next? Mark is up next. Mark, Howard Snellenberger. Another one. Mark, go ahead. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:32:38 Hey, guys. How's good? No, boy. He's breaking up, Rick. I can't hear him. Put him on hold and see if he can fix his connection. Who's next? Rob is up next.
Starting point is 00:32:49 Rob, go ahead, Rob. Hey, how about Howard Dean? Yeah. Yeah, I forgot about it. That's a good Howard Dean you just did there, man. I'm good at how much. He was a liberal. Go ahead. I just, I really enjoyed the season and it kind of just accepted it.
Starting point is 00:33:05 You know, we're not a good defensive team or we're probably not going to be. It's going to be tough to win six games. It's been the most enjoyable season in a while. And I just was going to ask, what do you think? Would you rather have a team that's really good offensively and just try to out score everybody or a really solid defensive team and hope you can just clamp everybody down and score some points? So, Ryan, I would answer that question. It's a good question.
Starting point is 00:33:29 Aesthetically for watching games, a team like this one is what's the most exciting. To win a title, I think you probably want a team that can play a little better defense than this. But if you're telling me, I have to pick being, you know, Virginia or Iowa State or I can be this, I'm going to be this because this is more fun to watch. Yeah, I'd almost will pick the offensive team during the regular season, but maybe the defensive team for the tournament. if I could, you know, handpick what I want for my guy, because you're right. You got to play a little bit of defense to win a game in the tournament.
Starting point is 00:34:03 Nobody wants to see a game in the 40s. Nobody. Nobody wants to see that. The way Kentucky plays is a lot more entertaining. You know, even if I give the team Drew a B-minus in terms of results, in terms of aesthetically pleasing and fun to watch, they're an A. I mean, they are fun to watch. Oh, absolutely.
Starting point is 00:34:19 That Alabama game, and I know, of course, that one's memorable forever because Justin Edwards had a perfect game. but what, they have 127 points. The way they were scoring in that game, that was a game I'll remember for a long time because that was so much fun as opposed to a good defense. All right, cool, you held someone to 40. That wasn't that fun for me.
Starting point is 00:34:37 There's been moments when they go on a run and Shepard or Dillingham or Reeves gets hot or in that one game, Justin Edward, like it's just, it feels like they're going to score every single time. And that is really, really exciting to watch. Who's next? Okay, I think we got Mark's Connect. back here.
Starting point is 00:34:56 All right, Mark, let's go ahead. Hey, guys. So. I'll tell you what, Mark, if you can make a five-second question, I'll take your bad connection. So go quick. Okay, so podcast listener. And I'm a lot of a day behind yesterday.
Starting point is 00:35:17 This is not. You already used your five seconds. All I heard was podcast listener. What is it, what is it, Ryan, about when I say you have 20 seconds, you have five seconds, that then makes people. people make longer introductions. I think people have it set in their mind what they want to say as soon as they're on. They're not going to deviate from that.
Starting point is 00:35:38 You know, we're like, okay, look, this is what I'm going to say to get to my point. That guy would have been better off calling in on a walkie-talkie because this connection was terrible. I'm sorry, Mark. Sounds like he was talking to us on podcast. I wanted to take it, but we couldn't do it. Hey, the KSR bowling league. By the way, Antonio Reeves is a really good bowler. Maybe he'll enter the league.
Starting point is 00:35:57 I'm going to at least ask him. It starts 7 p.m. April 24th. It's Wednesday nights. Four person bowling teams. It's a lot of fun. We've been doing it for years, and you can bring a four person bowling team and play every Wednesday night. The first one will be,
Starting point is 00:36:12 there'll be a meet and greet on April 17th, and then they start bowling on the 24th. It's handicapped. It means you can be bad, and they'll still make it to where you have a chance. If you're good, everybody's involved. It's a 12-week spring and early summer season. it's the KSR Bowling League.
Starting point is 00:36:29 Go to KSR bowling.com. That's KSR bowling.com. Join the league, get in, groups are being taken. There's not a ton left. So go to KSR bowling. Dot com. We'll take a break and come back.
Starting point is 00:36:43 Final segment. It's Kentucky Sports Radio. Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio. Final segment here. Two days before Kentucky tips off in the NCAA tournament in Pittsburgh. This segment is sponsored by Don Franklinado. You go to Don Franklinado, get your vehicle.
Starting point is 00:37:03 best selection, best prices, best service. It's all there at Don Franklin Auto.com. Go check them out. Tell them KSR sent you 24 locations around the state. I know you can find the vehicle you're looking for at Don Franklin Auto. com. There's a lot of folks suggesting people, Ryan. I like a few suggestions I've seen for Antoine Walker.
Starting point is 00:37:26 That was a lot more of an exciting player than you remember, especially in his heyday when he was shimmy. Oh, you know, he's throwing down the, dunk shoulder shimmy in and then he step out and hit a three-pointer. I mean, he was as good as it get, but the exciting player on that squad to me is always, always Derek Anderson. Rondo, that's a good one. Even
Starting point is 00:37:43 in college, exciting, Drew. Yeah, Rondo's a good one. I should have added Antoine Walker. He popped in my head when we first did the exercise. That's a good call on him, especially since he took threes because what was the line? There ain't no fours. Yeah, there ain't no force. Why do you take so many threes
Starting point is 00:37:59 because there ain't no fours? That's a great that's one of the great lines of all time. Azabuki, also a good pick that some people have. Could dunk on people's face, Ryan? Well, we talked about that dunk he had. We was a freshman against Vanderbilt. Maybe the best dunk I've seen live at Rupp Arena ever. So he can be in that conversation.
Starting point is 00:38:17 I would throw in Tyler Ullis, too, I think at times was exciting. He was a lot of fun. Because he wouldn't back down to anybody, you know. When Jamal Murray got hot? That's true. When Murray got hot, he could be, yeah, these are all good selections that have come in. Shannon, Rob Dillingham signed an NIL deal with Kim Kardashian's clothing line skims.
Starting point is 00:38:40 Do you like that? I am familiar with skims. I had to buy a lot of skims for Christmas for my girlfriend. It's interesting that Dillingham is now teaming up with Kim Kardashian for skims for himself. It was Rob Dillingham, Hunter Dickinson. There's like four guys that are part of it, and they're going to have a commercial that runs all through the NCAA tournament drew for skims. Do you own any skims where? I don't. But now if Rob has like a promo code or I could help Rob, maybe I'll order me a little skim. I don't really know what
Starting point is 00:39:10 a skim is. It seems to be like an ill-fitting pullover. Okay. I might get an ill-fitting pullover if Rob, if it can help him. Whatever it is, skims, Campbell's Soup, they're all starting to announce some deals going into March. I think it's important that Kentucky's included. I thought skims was the thing you were to like suck in your like is that not what it is no that spanks that's spanks that's spanks that's spanks that's spanks so what if he's on to deal with spanks yeah what is skims it's just kim kardashians uh basically like sweatpants is kind of what it is but are is it just a women's clothing line or they do that's the thing is we're learning it also has men's clothes ryan that's the point of the deal nice that's why she hired rob he went to the conier school and now he's
Starting point is 00:39:56 with the kiln clothing line he's got some connections in people's marital disputes drew like he's both sides of the party that's exactly right he is totally equal opportunity and you know i appreciate that about it game is it seven o'clock thursday i saw the announcers ryan we get steve lapis as our announcer uh i don't have any feeling one way the other over that what about evan washington he's that guy he's got he's that guy he's got like a thick brooklyn accent, you know what I'm talking about? Yeah, he did. I know he did a game that I just watched this weekend, too.
Starting point is 00:40:31 So I know he's all right, you know. I'm so used to our SEC guys, but he'll be all right. He's no Tom Hart, but we'll take him. He's no Tom Hart. It's somebody named Catalan and then Lapis. You know, with that host, get him beat in the first round states because Tom Hart was going to have our Friday night game, our Saturday afternoon game, and then the championship game on Sunday.
Starting point is 00:40:50 We would have had him all three games that they just won out. Yes. Now, if you have not signed up yet, We are doing the KS Bar bracket challenge. We already have 1,200 people that have signed up, Shannon. Wow. And of course, the winner, not only is there all kinds of like food prizes throughout that you can use at KS Bar, and there's a ton of them, each round you, each round you win,
Starting point is 00:41:12 each round you're in the top of the leaderboards, you get more and more food prizes. But the overall winner will get to host this show for 30 minutes. Shannon thinks this is a horrific idea, which makes me even more want to do it. and people are signing up. I've had some questions. First of all, if you win, can you pick someone else to host? Yes, so long as it's not someone that I hate, Shannon. So that's the thing.
Starting point is 00:41:36 You can't pick like, you know. Who do you hate, man? Tell everybody. I'm not even if you don't have to get into that. But yes, but I get a veto power over who you host. But if you yourself win, I can't veto you, Shannon. Does that make sense? Yes, okay.
Starting point is 00:41:50 Come on Kentucky Joe. You got to win this, buddy. So I can veto your pick. But I can't veto you. That's the rule. And secondly, you'll get 30 minutes. And if you want to bring a guest host with you, you can. But like again, you can't just go, I'm bringing Jack Givage.
Starting point is 00:42:09 You have to do it, Shannon, with like someone you know. You know, there's some scuttlebutt out there that Misty English is willing to pay whoever does win this bracket, some good money just to come on and be the co-host. Nice. With whoever may win. There we go. I love to have that just so they can tell you to eat it, Ryan. Yes, I won't get involved in private monetary transactions. That's up to you if you want to do it.
Starting point is 00:42:33 But I tweeted out the link. I think, did you all put it on the Facebook page, Bond that bridge? Ryan and I both is. Yeah. A lot of people are asking us, yeah, how do they enter? So do that. And I tell you what, all three of you guys at some point today tweet out the link, okay, so that people can get that out.
Starting point is 00:42:48 But you should be able to make sure to get it in by the time the tournament starts on Thursday. Who's up next? Randy is up next. Randy, go ahead, Randy. Good morning, gentlemen. Hey, I just want to go back to Wisconsin defense and everything. Back their last six or seven games,
Starting point is 00:43:06 look how good they played defensively. I mean, they didn't play great, but they played so much better. And I'm hoping that's the team that shows up. I've started in the middle. I put Kentucky, and I'm filling my bracket all the way back out after that.
Starting point is 00:43:18 Go catch. I wouldn't say it was even good, but it was better. I mean, it was better. You would get Drew probably six or seven more or maybe four or five more stops a game, and that can be the difference in the game. And they had some games, maybe even at Tennessee where they started a little cold, but they stayed in it on the other end by playing some good defense right out of the gate.
Starting point is 00:43:39 Again, hopefully Oakland, none of this matters. But as they get to the Marquette, whoever it is in that Sweet 16, they're going to have to play better defense than they played last Friday in Nashville. Totally agree. All right, Shannon, give us a winner of our Salcerita's gift card. The winner is Teresa Sheehan. You are the winner of the $50 party starter, Sauserreida's gift card.
Starting point is 00:44:00 Also, shout out to Carriage for you. That's a presenting sponsor this hour. Shout out to who? Carriage Ford. They are a presenting sponsor for this hour. A carriage Ford, shout out. That's what I'm doing. I'm shouting you out right now.
Starting point is 00:44:11 Thanks to Martin's barbecue joint. Tomorrow I'll be in Pittsburgh. Drew, you're going to be driving, so you will miss the show, right? Well, do you need me there? You called, we'll figure it. I'd like you to be here. You decide. I'd love for you to be here. I've been told like five things in the last 12 hours.
Starting point is 00:44:28 I would love for you to be here. If you can be here, I'd love for you to be here. But I mean, you know, you have a life. But either way, I'll be in Pittsburgh. Ryan and Shannon will be back in Kentucky. Thank you all very much. I'm going to go say hello to Stephen A and see if he will yell at me. We appreciate it.
