Now here's Matt Jones.
Welcome, everyone.
It is Kentucky Sports Radio Thursday.
March the 21st.
I am Matt Jones here in beautiful Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Shadyside.
Where today, a little bit later,
The cats open up their NCAA tournament run to glory against the Oakland Athletics in PPG Arena.
You can give us a shout.
Well, we're going to actually not take calls the first hour.
We're going to take them in the second hour.
So save all your opinions on the Clark's Puppet Shop phone line, which is 859-2802287.
You can, however, and I encourage you to use the A Vision Auto Glass text machine,
772-745254.
And this edition sponsored by a T.J. Smith Law Office.
You call T.
T.J.L. Make them pay.
Drew and I are here in Pittsburgh.
At KS. Bar and Grill is Ryan Lemon and Shannon the dude.
Or excuse me, is Ryan Lemon.
Shannon will be there tomorrow.
Right.
Ryan, we are here in Pittsburgh.
We went to all the pre-game events yesterday.
Got to see DJ Burns in person.
Got to see our Kentucky Wildcats.
We listen to music.
We heard Cal's press conference.
Now I'm ready for these games to start.
Yeah, really kind of anxious to hear your stories about, you know, did they let you do your
podcast?
Did they shut you down?
and it snowed.
And it wasn't it snowing yesterday in Pittsburgh?
Like you guys got a lot to talk about.
Yeah.
Would you say you need me to turn up or down?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Usually I want you to turn down.
Now you need me to turn up.
How's that?
Turn it up.
Turn it up.
If you ain't turned up today, then I don't know what to tell you.
Yeah.
Well, I am turned up.
I'm ready to go.
I was just trying to, you know, I didn't want to dofen schmarts it too much.
Now I have something I need people to do, Drew, before we get started.
I'm going to give a project that I'm going to offer $100.
in cold hard cash to the winner.
Okay.
It's good money.
I yesterday, we got so distracted with stuff
that we couldn't get things set up
for our pre-or post-game show tonight.
We got a little busy yesterday.
We got busy, and the number I had from the person,
I called it, and it was a corporate hotline,
and it was like hit six if you want Sally
and hit 13 if you want Terry,
and I didn't know if I wanted Sally or Terry,
and so I didn't do it.
So I'm going to offer $100 to the person,
who sets us up and it's successful through,
with some sort of sports bar within a mile of the arena.
There are sports bars all over the city.
The problem is there isn't one a mile.
Well, there are some, but I haven't been able to get them on the phone.
And you and I were going to go tour them, and we couldn't.
So I say whoever sets us up with the person, and when I call them, the person, or they call
me, the person says, this was set up by Bobby Joe.
I will give them $100.
This is like they're going to be almost Shannon like our producer for the day.
Yeah, right.
That's right.
Because I'd like to be able to do definitely the postgame show there
and maybe the pregame show depending on how things go.
So if you get it set up and you give me a phone number on the text machine
that says that they will do it today, then I will give you $100.
How's that?
Sweet prize.
Really, it's not even about the cash.
This is an opportunity to prove your worth.
and maybe still someone's
Oh yeah
I mean now you put yourself
in a position where if Billy acts up
you have a job
Ryan like this is like
Billy is on notice if
somebody is not able to
do it today
I guarantee you there's somebody listening right now
that is already in Pittsburgh for the game
that has family that owns a sports bar
or a restaurant or something
let me be clear what you have to do though
you have to be able to give me a number
and a person and they will call
and know who I am
if I call and then they go, what?
Then I'm going to say, not only do you not get the $100, I'm going to try to have you arrested.
So like this.
Goodness.
I mean, I don't know that there are charges that I can get on you, but I'm going to try to.
But I'd like to make it because you and I just didn't have time because we had so much fun yesterday.
And if you don't have a way, we probably don't want thousands of people just cold calling everywhere in Pittsburgh.
I'm okay with it.
You're okay.
Well, if you want to, that's fine.
Whatever it takes to get the job.
Whatever it takes.
Ideally, someone would already have a connection where we have a smooth process.
That would be ideal, but you know what?
That's everybody else's problem.
But the one who gets it set up will get $100.
And if you're in Pittsburgh, I'll hand it to you.
I'll just hand you the $100 right there in cash.
And you'll be good, Ryan.
How about that?
What if, like, Trey Mitchell's listening?
You guys can do it at my parents' house or my family's house.
Well, I mean, I don't think they want UK fans all coming to their house.
But you know what?
If they do, that's fine, too, if we all hang out at Trond.
Unless it's not do Trey Mitchell specifically.
We don't want to do any eligibility issues.
Nothing, just a place for us to do the pre and post game show that also has games on.
That's all I'm looking for.
Because the area around the arena, it looks to be mostly vacant parking lots, which makes it hard to.
And for people coming to the game, you need to know that.
The arena is not really close to anything except parking.
Looks like there's a lot of places to park.
But if you're wanting to eat or have sustenance of any kind, it doesn't look to be.
close to the arena. And we even had trouble with navigating the parking lots. They're all caged in.
You've got to climb through holes to get in them. It's an adventure. Once you get in the parking
lot, Shannon, it's the Thunderdome. You have to fight for people to get out. Like Jay Bellis'
version of what should happen for people rushing the court, right? And it's exactly right.
They put you in a lock and they go, can you prove you need to get out of here? So we're in
the mankind hell and a cell lot. I thought that was fun getting out of there. Wasn't that here?
Wasn't hell in the cell in Pittsburgh? It was actually. I think it was. I think it was. Good call.
that, Shannon. How about that memory? I do think Helen Assail was in Pittsburgh.
It was. All right. So a couple things before we get guarded. Kentucky and Oakland play today. I want to talk about the media thing. But last night, Drew and I, we got given dinner recommendations, Ryan. And so we're in Shadyside. And so there were people who sent us various recommendations. And one of them was for this Italian place. And they said the guy that runs it has a track suit and is like definitive.
definitively Italian. And so Drew and High Ryan were of course like, let's go there.
I didn't want to hear another option. Yeah, that sounded great. We go there out the doorway,
so we can't do that. So then we go to another place. I think it was called like Shady Grove,
which I believe was an Andy Griffith's song. Yes, it was. Yes. Shady Grove, my darling,
we can play. Charlene. Charlene. Charlene sang Shady Grove. So when I went in there,
of course, I was singing it. Nobody, nobody knew or cared what I was doing. So we ate. And on the way back,
you all may not know about this feature on your phone.
But on your phone, if you do Google Maps,
there's a feature on how to drive where you need to go.
But there's also a feature, Ryan, on how to walk where you want to go.
And it'll let you go places that your car can't go, but your feet can go.
Did you know you had that feature on your phone?
Yeah, I used it down in Nashville last weekend.
Yeah, so I see the closest way back to our house,
and it has this little thing that I don't think I'd ever seen before,
Shannon, a little simple that says you're going to have to take steps.
Oh.
And I thought, you know what?
You can handle it.
You know, Drew and I are still young.
Yeah.
Like, we're still out there.
We're still getting it done.
Bring the steps.
I'm a two step at a time, guys.
I'm not worried about any steps.
Plus, I saw Joker.
I seen steps in a city before.
You go up and down the steps.
We can do the dance.
So we're walking.
And this neighborhood we're in is clearly like a neighborhood of transition.
Like, parts of it are really, really nice.
And then parts of it are like abandoned lots of mattress stores.
You know?
Lots of things spray painted.
A lot of graffiti.
A lot of graffiti.
So you can tell we're like, in five years, I bet this is nice.
Right now it's kind of kind of nice, you know, like we're in a luxury apartment,
but it's over a beer store.
I don't see anything wrong with that.
I'm just saying, like that's kind of what it is, right?
So we walk and we get to the part with the steps.
And how best to describe these steps.
They were basically two stories of steps over a railroad track.
Drew, wouldn't you agree?
Yeah, you know when you drive under an underpass and there's like a chain leak bridge and you're like,
who would ever walk on that?
It was one of those.
Wow.
As you walk and it was pitch black dark, no light.
And as we walk up the steps, I look graffiti on the sidewalk, Shannon says, if you're about to go across this bridge, don't.
That's what it said.
Yeah.
So what do you do?
Do you trust the graffiti or do you just do it?
I think for the first time I've seen.
I was more adventurous than Drew.
Oh, I was in.
I was ready.
So Drew films me walking across.
I think in case I get murdered.
I had to document it.
I even said this.
I said,
I cannot wait to show Ryan and Shannon.
We've won up to our last Pittsburgh walk.
That's why I was filming it.
Faces of death.
There was.
I mean,
and it was pitch black dark.
It was like,
there was also a random car slowly up to block.
The car was more scary than anything.
The car was like,
it was almost like they were tracking us.
Right?
Like, it looked like,
back when Mitch McConnell was following me around
and there'd be a car just creeping along and I'd be like
I know what you're doing dude and I know your car
like I know that's you
that's kind of how it was
and I thought I saw
I'm gonna be honest right I thought I saw a little fear
in Drew's eyes no I was ready to take it on
I was like this is really stupid but I was in
I mean if you're gonna die at the
incidentally tournament what better way to go you know
walking some shaky steps
over railroad drive almost made it to the first
round
all because we're walking
You know, if we had got, if it was over for us, that probably would have been what's
the UK on a run.
I think so.
They would have said, well, those two aren't around anymore.
Cow might have said something nice about us before the game.
Yeah, and we didn't make it peacefully.
So we got here, though, and we're here today, and we're ready to go.
What were your thoughts, Drew, yesterday on the press conference?
I'll just start with the overall.
I just had an absolute blast being in the March Madness Field again.
Just the logo, I think South Carolina was the first team out there.
I set with their people.
I don't know why.
I was talking to them like I'm with South Carolina.
I was just happy to be out there.
I think I saw a little bit of every team's practice.
Don't care about most of them, but just being in the mood was great.
And then Kentucky, of course, they, I wrote a little bit about this.
I just liked how they passed the eye test for me with filling loose energy.
When they were walking through that tunnel to get to the practice, they're goofing off, big Z's saying thing.
They're all being silly.
It's like they didn't, at least the eye test, it didn't look.
look like they were feeling any pressure.
I'll say what he won't, Ryan.
Drew was filming them as they walked in,
and they clearly said something that they wished they hadn't with Drew on film.
And we've been Zepruder filming, trying to figure out what they said.
Because Big Z said something, and then everybody else was like,
shh, he's filming.
Yeah, you can see it do.
You can see it happening on the video, but we can't tell what Big Z said, right?
And so like, whatever one is, it was funny.
They all were laughing, but they all had one of those.
I can't believe you just said that with this dude filming.
So we were, we have, Drew and I spent a lot of last night trying to see.
What did Big Z say that they wished he had?
Antonio Reeves' eyes got real big and looks over at me too.
Slowing it down, trying to boost the volume, everything, and you can't figure out what was said yet?
We can't figure it out.
So it'll probably just be a mystery.
But that was my point.
I like how they're goofing off, whatever it is.
They're not looking tight and tense.
So I went to Shannon the first Cal Press conference.
I've been to, I guess, all year.
Did you ask a question?
No, I sat in the back.
I was trying to, like, stay out of it.
He was up there for 25 minutes.
How many questions you think got out in 25 minutes?
Four, maybe.
I think he could have done 25 minutes on the city of Pittsburgh.
He just kept talking about Pittsburgh.
He'd be like, yearns, what do you think about that?
And, of course, I had no idea what he was talking about.
And he was like, and Jagoff.
And he would just say words.
No, he would.
Excuse me?
Well, you've heard him say that before.
Like, it's his, it's a Pittsburgh thing.
It's a Pittsburgh thing.
It's like a phrase for a person that's whatever.
And he kept talking about places to eat.
And, I mean, he was just clearly in heaven.
The best exchange, though, came from this guy Ryan, Will Graves.
Do you remember him?
I remember that name.
He was an AP reporter.
And Will Graves looked at him and goes,
Cal, I covered you at UK for a couple years.
And Cal looked at him and goes, who are you?
And he was like, and he goes, did you dye your hair?
And then Will said, well, I'm clearly made quite an impression on you, didn't he?
I loved it.
He just, Cal had no idea who the guy was when he was talking.
But I also felt like Cal was very much in his Cal moment, you know, where he was like,
you've heard this before, Ryan, where he's kind of just laughing and joking.
He felt loose, which I was glad to see.
That's kind of my takeaway was he was just cow up there like on a preseason news conference.
He was just talking about everything but the game, it seemed like.
So maybe that's a good sign that if he's loose, I'll carry over to the players.
We only had, there might have been 40 UK fans there, which is really shocking.
Because I would say to people in the future, if you want to get up and close with the UK basketball team,
this might be the best day of the year.
It's an open practice.
You know, Jack Givens is walking around with basketballs for his grandkids, taking pictures.
The players are signing autographs.
Cal is talking to the fans.
And we had like 40 people there.
Yeah, if you were there, you probably got all the autographs you wanted, all the pictures.
The team even stopped a couple minutes early to go talk to all the fans.
I would say to you, for people who ask, how do I get a Reed Shepherd autograph?
Like, that would have been the best thing you could have done.
And I would say if they go to the Sweet 16, they'll do that again in Dallas.
You got to go.
I mean, for those people that were there, I'm not sure you can get closer to UK basketball.
But along those lines, that's the fewest people I've ever seen at one of those for Kentucky.
I mean, South Carolina, Shannon, had more people there than we did.
When does that ever happen?
Never.
Never.
So it makes me wonder, do you think we're going to have people at this game tonight?
I was really thrown off by that.
I kind of want to blame it on it.
a Wednesday midweek, but other schools, I mean.
But it's always a Wednesday midweek.
Well, so sometimes you get to, yeah, but all the other schools,
not that anyone had a big crowd, but it's probably equal across the board with fan bases.
Oakland, I mean, Oakland had more people than us.
Yeah.
It was a little alarming seeing that.
I'm hopeful we get the big blue wave coming in today, but I thought an area like
Pittsburgh would have more just a city you can get to.
Well, part of me wonders.
You remember when we did our remote here, you know, we just went on that tour, Ryan,
in December, right? Remember we stopped and did a show here? Yes, we did.
We had the smallest crowd we had here in Pittsburgh, which makes me wonder,
do Kentucky fans not exist in Pittsburgh? Like, think about this. Every city we go to,
there are Kentucky fans hanging out the wazoo. Have you seen any here?
No, I remember. When I've asked for food recommendations, maybe the fewest I've ever gotten here,
right? Like, Ryan, is it possible that Kentucky fans,
fans are banned from the city of Pittsburgh.
You know, and there's so many Pittsburgh Steelers fans that live in Lexington and
looking at Kentucky, it is kind of weird.
But I can't think of a place we've been before where I've seen fewer people that
were Kentucky, and we're only six hours away.
Yeah.
Probably our smallest ever crowd on the road was in Pittsburgh, and I think it was like six
people, four of whom were from Lexington that happened to be passing through.
That's true.
You know, I just wonder, like, I wonder what it's going to be.
be like tonight. Do you think we're going to, I mean, when you said yesterday that your neighbors
were Kentucky fans, I thought, well, that place is going to be crawling with Kentucky fans.
They're right there next to us, but we haven't seen them yet. But I was, I could not believe
how few people were there. I mean, when I say South Carolina had more people than us, South
Carolina had more people than us. NC State had more people than us. And it makes me wonder what the
crowd is going to be like. Now, it's close enough that maybe people are coming up today, right? Like,
And maybe when I check the text machine, there's going to be a ton of people saying they're coming up today.
The night game, but it was weird to me.
I don't think I've been to a Kentucky event where I saw fewer Kentucky fans than I saw yesterday.
859-280-2287.
I went too long, so we need to take a break and be right back to KSR.
There you go.
See, that's where we were last night.
That's why I kept singing this.
Drew, I know you were wondering why I was singing this song.
Shady Grove, Shady Grove, my darling.
And then I don't remember the rest.
but it's Charlene from the Andy Griffith Show.
Had a good time watching a little basketball at Shady Grove last night.
That's right.
Apparently, I didn't know this.
There are 371 public staircases in Pittsburgh.
It is the staircase capital of North America.
And there's a Facebook group called Death Stairs
that shows the most crazy and spooky ones.
And the one we were on yesterday is top five spookiest stairwell.
in Pittsburgh.
Well, now we've got to go to the others.
I'm excited to see them.
Maybe we can rank them.
I'll do a KSR post.
Did you know that about Pittsburgh?
That it was the staircase capital, Ryan, of North America?
And, of course, your map takes you to one of the most dangerous ones in the entire city, a huge city,
and you get the one that's scary.
It was scary.
I'm not going to lie.
Like, we were already there, and it was clear we couldn't go around it.
Like, we just had to go over it.
But it was a freaky set of stairs.
Well, we got to a point.
It was like we can walk back towards that tar.
it we see off in the distance. It's well lit, or we're already here. So we made the responsible
decision. We're both six foot, whatever. Also, I bring the danger. Yes, you do. I have some
people telling me they are driving up today. That's good. But we had a friend say there's only
six Kentucky people on a flight right now. I did not like hearing that a direct flight from Nashville
to Pittsburgh on the morning of the game has about six to seven UK fans. It would be interesting to
see tonight. I mean, I'll take a picture of the crowd. First and second round is not, you know,
usually the highest attended, but I just thought since this was so close.
Could it be that people think this group is special?
The next two are Dallas and Phoenix.
Those aren't exactly right down the road from Kentucky.
Maybe they're thinking, we'll watch these two from home, hope they get it done,
and then we'll be able to go on the next time.
And so maybe people think, you know, I don't, I need a week off.
I don't know.
Ryan, I just, like I said, I've been to that 15 times over the years.
And usually there are 1,500 to 1,000 UK fans.
And to see 40 was kind of eye-opening, I have to admit.
And a drive from Lexington.
I just, I was a little shocked by it.
I think you guys talked about it.
It may just be a lot of fans were driving even yesterday afternoon and last night
and coming in this morning.
I think because you're right, usually no matter where they are, Salt Lake City or Tampa or whatever,
there's always Kentucky fans of those shoot-arounds for the NCAA tournament.
So Kentucky plays Oakland.
The players did the whole thing of, you know, we're not worried about them, worried about us.
They said they shoot a lot of threes.
You know, we've talked about the team.
They have a guy that's averaging 20 some points a game, Horizon player of the league.
They also have a guy who, Shannon, I still can't get over, has shot like 200 threes this year and only eight twos.
That's crazy.
I got the stat here for you.
335 shots, eight of them were twos.
My goodness.
That's got to be, that's one of the craziest things I've ever heard.
So let me just say, if they leave that guy open, whoever left him open should sit on the bench.
Because you know he's not going to beat you Shannon off the dribble.
What's his name?
Jack Golky.
Jack Golky.
Yes.
335 shots, 327 of them are three.
Rank second in the nation and three-point attempts with nearly 10 per game.
So you know what he's going to give you offensively.
You know what he's going to do.
And if we're sagging off him, Drew, I'll lose my mind.
He even said yesterday, I don't shoot twos and I don't plan to tomorrow.
Something along those.
Like, he is telling people, I'm not doing it.
And his teammates talk about when he has taken twos,
they're like he doesn't even want to, but he finds himself so open he has to.
It's like he wants to be the guy that never takes.
Yeah, and I guess one time there was a goal hitting and he was frustrated because he didn't want the two.
Like the guy only wants three pointers and that's his thing.
He shoots 37% from three.
I'll add that into it.
That is an amazing statistic.
I've never heard of anything like.
like that. I was trying to think, Ryan, who is the Kentucky player in history that you think shot
the greatest percentage of their shots from three? I have an answer in my mind. Who's in yours?
First guy that popped to my mind was Derek Miller. Okay. That's not a bad one, but he was like the
best player on that team, so I think he shot a lot of everything. He lived, all he did was shoot
three to the game. You know who comes to my mind is I bet the greatest percentage of his shots
for three was Cameron Mills. Yes, that's a good one. He came to mine.
Cameron Mills, I don't remember Cameron Mills like ever driving to the basket.
He may have, but I don't remember it.
Ryan, you think that's one that could be the answer for us?
I think that's a great answer, yeah, because he came in.
He had one duty, and it sure wasn't to play defense.
It was just to shoot three-pointers.
Wasn't you with the shot about the defense.
That's kind of harsh.
I think that would be the one for me.
I'm telling you, Shannon, there's going to be a play where somebody sagged off him,
and it's going to drive me crazy today.
Yeah, they should be immediately benched.
I'm with you.
You know what the guy's going to do.
He doesn't shoot twos.
Stay out behind the three-point line.
There's no reason to ever.
If you're guarding that guy, no reason to ever go inside the three-point line.
They seem very loose yesterday, too, though.
Like, they seem like they're definitely playing, like, house money.
They're not worried about it.
They're talking some trash, too.
They do talk trash.
They're very confident.
Like, they're trash-talking, which is crazy for a 14 seed, but they really are kind of trash-talking.
We'll see how it goes.
We'll take a break.
We're back.
KSR.

Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Here's Matt Jones.
Welcome back, Techies Sports Radio.
We have some breaking news, Shannon.
Ronnie na-na-na!
Antonio Reeves was named third-team All-American by the Sporting News,
joining the U.S. Basketball Writers Association.
If you remember, the AP had him as honorable mention.
But two third teams, it's generally perceived if you make
two of the big four.
You are considered a consensus
All-American, so it looks like
he will get that. And congratulations.
Still mad at the AP, so he's
not a unanimous third-team all-American,
but he will be a consensus one,
which usually has some sort of spot
in the UK history
books, etc. So I'm happy about that
for him. Ryan, he deserves it.
Absolutely deserves it. And we've
talked about it all year. It kind of gets overshadowed by these
high-profile freshmen and how they're going to be high
draft picks, but that dude deserves it. He
deserves to be an All-American. That's why he was in the running for SEC player of the year,
because he earned it. He deserved it. I'm so happy for him.
Perfect example of how you cannot make people happy. Matt, I'm not trying to sound mean,
but your whole topic is stupid and unwarranted negativity when you're talking about BBN not
showing up. Why worry about an open practice that wasn't promoted by UK? Well, it was promoted by
UK. I'm not worried about it. It is new, like we're trying to talk about the game tonight.
I mean, I can talk about something else if you want, but we're talking about the game.
And in the game, I do wonder about the UK fan.
Show up.
I'm going to be there.
I'm going to sit in the crowd so I can yell.
I'm not going to sit on Press Row next to Evan Washburn,
whose hair is way too good to sit anywhere near to.
I sat next to him yesterday.
I should have gotten nothing left.
His hair.
I wanted to touch it.
I don't even know him.
I wanted to be like, man, can I just poke it?
I mean, Shannon, you got to look at his hair.
First of all, it looks like it's molded on by, like, concrete.
And I don't know about the blonde highlights.
Like, that's a little much.
Who is he? What's his name?
Evan Washburn. He'll be our sideline reporter tonight.
Oh, they'll show it. I mean, he finds a way to get his hair into the screen.
But great hair. And in person.
Oh, yeah, that is good hair. Yeah, I'm seeing it right now.
I was sitting next to him. And when I got up to leave is when my jeans got caught on the metal chair and I ripped the back of my pants.
Yeah, Drew ripped his pants yesterday.
So while standing next to the guy with great hair, I'm asking a stranger how bad the tear in my jeans is.
need to go home to change me.
Drew looked at a stranger, Shannon, and asked if his butt was out.
What do you want me to do?
I can't see it.
You didn't have a mirror close by, a butt mirror.
I said, is this bad enough that I need to go home?
Sweet.
The sweet, but Ryan is at KSbar.
Yes.
Had a good group of Sweet 16 years there yesterday throughout the day.
The Sweet 16, let's see.
Let's go through the wins.
McGoffin County in its first ever tournament pulls off and upset and gets a victory.
That one.
Travis Perry and Lyon County get a come from behind victory, Ryan, against, I guess against Ashland.
They nearly lost.
Great Crossing.
The top team was behind late against Spencer County and then went on a 15-0 run to win, and then Adair County
Ryan beat Marshall County.
Yeah, some real good games yesterday.
We had good crowds in here watching the games.
McLaughen County came in for like a little victory dinner after their win yesterday.
I'm all McGough and County right now.
Let's go.
Lyon County will play McGoffin County.
You know, Travis Perry nearly lost yesterday, but he's setting up that semi-final that could take place Saturday morning
between Lyon County and Great Crossing would be a game that if I was in town, I would make sure to try to go to if they both win tomorrow.
You're right, but a close call there yesterday.
Go ahead, Ryan.
Well, Lion County, apparently, they just struggled.
They had trouble scoring.
and even at the last play of the game, they needed a bucket at the end of the game,
and they gave it to the shoulders kid and not Travis Perry.
They set it up for somebody else to take the last shot.
His name is shoulders?
Yeah, I can't think of his first name.
His last name is shoulders.
Everyone thinks of them as just Travis Perry.
They're pretty loaded this year.
They're a guard Reddick can really fill it up too.
But it was interesting.
They didn't go to Perry in a big play yesterday.
Yeah.
Well, so there you go.
The games start here today.
But before we get to that, the women's coach.
We got some women's coach scoop.
I was told by source, I'm going to go ahead and say this is scoop, not scuttlebutt,
that Kentucky has three primary candidates.
The only one that I got a name on is Virginia Tech coach Kenny Brooks.
Now, I'm not going to lie to you and say I follow the women's basketball coaching scene,
but I do know that Kenny Brooks created a program out of nothing at Virginia Tech.
I think last year they were a number one seed in the NCAA tournament.
sounds like Ryan if they could get him, and I'm not saying they can,
but I think they've talked with him, and he's in the tournament this year,
sounds like that would be a heck of a get, wouldn't it?
Especially if that's his forte, if he started the program from nothing
because the program is obviously not doing very well right now.
A lot of girls are already entered the transfer portal,
so he needs to come in quickly and get things turned around.
He has a top five recruiting class for next year.
Wow.
So I do think one of the things it shows, Drew,
is that they're swinging for the fences with that job.
They're not going to sit around and just, you know, take whoever there.
I mean, you're going for a guy there that, I mean, when I tweeted out last night,
my mentions were filled with Virginia Tech fans all night going, no, we got to keep him.
So it feels like that would be a good hire if they could make it.
I read up on him last night.
He played at James Madison and then took over their women's program and kind of did what he did with Virginia Tech.
Their first took them from nothing and led them to the NCAA tournament, his alma mater.
Then went and did it at Virginia Tech, took them up to some prominence.
And heck, as Kentucky's at a low point,
If they end up with him, let's see if he can do it a third time
because he's been nothing but successful so far.
He's been very, very good.
Shannon, did you see that the Indiana State team won their NIT game,
scored 103 points further confirming that the NCAA
completely screwed up putting Virginia in and leaving Cream Abdul-Jabbar out?
He would have been one of the stars of the NCAA tournament,
and they passed on that to put Virginia, who scored, what, 42 points on their game?
Yeah, that was an absolute mistake on the selection.
committee's part. I was very excited, Drew, we were watching TV, and I looked up and I was like,
I know that voice. And Myron Metcalf was doing play-by-play for an NIT game. And it made me so happy.
He was doing it with Tom Crean, too. It was Myron Metcalf and Tom Crean calling the Minnesota
Butler game. Did you feel a little jealousy? I was sitting with you when they showed the two-shot
with them on the screen. It was them side by side. Were you thinking, that's my co-pilot?
Yeah, what are you doing, Tom? Get out of there.
No, I think I've talked about this before.
And, Ryan, you and I've talked about this.
When you see someone that your friend on television,
it almost makes you more excited than when you're on television.
100% it does.
So seeing Myron, because I know he wants to do that,
seeing Myron get a chance to do play by play,
which I don't think, if you think about it, Ryan,
this is a lot of pressure.
I don't think he's ever done play-by-play, ever.
Wow.
And then they put him on a college basketball game on ESPNU.
I'm sure he was nervous.
I could tell he was nervous because he was doing his voice.
Because, like, we laugh about when he's my co-host on ESPN, he talks normally.
But when he has to host, he goes, I'm Myron Metcalf.
And he, like, uses a real pro voice.
He was doing that last night.
He was like, welcome.
It's Butler in Minnesota.
And, but I was, I was very proud of him, Brian.
Well, how did he do?
I mean, you, listen to a moment.
I mean, good.
I mean, you had to, you know, Tom Crean, did Tom Crean stuff.
And it was, I thought they did well.
He was carrying Tom Crean.
I mean, absolutely carrying Tom Crean.
We got on a topic last night, Shannon, me and Drew, which I wanted to bring you into.
Okay.
I know, I know there's a game today.
I know everybody's nervous.
But it's a topic that once you start, it's hard to stop.
Okay.
I've had to think for a minute.
It is actors or people who the picture you know of them, they're a lot younger than you think they are.
So basically they look older than their age.
Okay.
Let me give you a couple of them we figured out.
George Costanza on Seinfeld, all right?
Yeah.
You know, do you know how old he was when that show started?
I have no idea.
Think about what he looks like.
Yeah.
He was 31.
Wow.
No way.
Wow.
I mean, if you say guess, I would have probably said like 53 or something.
He was 31 years old when that show started.
I'm going to blow your mind more.
Cheers.
Norm and the postal guy.
What was the postal guy?
Cliff, do you know how old they were when that show started?
Brian, take a guess.
I'm going to say 35.
Okay.
Why guess a young?
They both look old.
They were 32 and 33.
Wow.
I wouldn't have believed under 45.
Think about Norm.
You really thought he was 35, Ryan?
That dude looked, he looked disheveled in that show.
Well, the show was over 30 years ago, and they looked like they're in their 70s now,
so that's how I just kind of go backwards.
That's why I can't play with Ryan.
Red Fox.
Oh, yes.
He got me.
Red Fox in Sanford and some.
He had to be, like, late 50s.
48. He was 48 when that show started.
Wow.
Think about that.
Abraham Lincoln, the famous picture of Abraham Lincoln, you know what I'm talking about where his face is all chiseled and all that?
Yeah. Yeah. That's his official portrait. He was only 50 in that portrait.
Wow. Yeah. I'm looking at it right now. He looks.
George Washington. George Washington, the picture of him on the Delaware.
You know with the hair and all that?
51.
Wow.
I mean, just these people, like people were the Bunchy Bunker and Edith.
Okay, on all in the family.
Yeah.
First episode of them.
You know how old they were?
How.
46.
My.
One year older than me.
Archie Bunker.
You know you and Archie.
Side by side.
I can't tell you apart.
It was a hard life back then, I guess.
I don't know.
That's what I was thinking.
And why did people look so much older back then?
Like Archie Bunker?
My favorite part in this exercise is with presidents and all these historical figures.
Because most of them were lower 50s, I would compare them to present-day Ryan Lemon, a photo.
So like these old portraits of presidents, they look 70 or 80.
They're younger than Ryan.
They're younger than Ryan.
So that's what was blowing my mind so much.
I saw a picture of Thomas Jefferson at 55.
And then Ryan Lemon are the same age.
That Thomas Jefferson would not walk to Clark's Pumping Show.
He's too old.
But he's the same age as our young Ryan Lemon.
That's crazy.
The fact that George Costanza was 31 when that show stopped.
That's insane to me.
That's absolutely insane.
And now everyone knows what Matt and I did watching Boise State last night.
You want to ours.
Hey, Abby, you wonder to Drew and I party?
Abby FaceTime me and we just kept reading them to her.
She's like, all right, I'm going to let you all go.
I think Abby called to see.
Are there any women there?
and we're like, look at this picture of Alexander Hamilton.
He's like, all right, I'm going to leave you too long.
Yeah, you guys have your, have your night.
We, well, one of the things we wanted to do was cook some Noche Linda beef, but we didn't have, we didn't.
Nochelinda farms.com.
You get your beef at Noce Linda.
It is great, and they'll deliver it right to your house.
And did you know that with the first day of spring, extra great prices are at Noce Linda Farms?
Dry age, ground beef, New York strips, Delmonico Steaks.
If you have any questions, you can talk personally.
859-707-704.
It's Noche Linda Farms, a Kentucky proud partner.
You can get it.
Beef, you cannot get at the grocery store.
Made in Kentucky, it's Noce Linda Farms.
We'll take a break.
Preview the games today.
This is KSA.
I mean, this is got to make you excited, Jim, right?
Yeah, they stopped using this version 20 years ago,
but this is the best classic version of the theme song for March Madness.
As soon as we get off the air, this will,
come on. And the first time it runs, I'll show Charles Barkley and Kenny Smith and all those
guys, and you'll be, like, I'll be completely in. I mean, I don't, if it were me and I was in
Lexington, as soon as the show was over, I would just sit there at KS Bar and I wouldn't move all day.
Now, I mean, I would tip big, Drew, because you can't sit there all day and not use it, but that's
what I would do. And, like, I mean, I assume, Ryan, there will be a lot of people do that at the
bar today but like this is a perfect day to go to a sports bar with your friends and just sit all day
and be there yeah and they've already got the uh the the the QR code on all the tables ready for
the crowd to come in but you remember that's right you get that 100% boost from yes that's exactly
right that's right that's right back to the bar take the picture you know you can't do it
shannon we tried that oh yeah we tried to take a picture and use it in tennessee you actually
have to be at the bar it knows your location we got caught we got caught we tried to
do it in Nashville.
We were just testing it, though, for other people.
Yeah, I just wanted to make sure other people couldn't steal it.
But to the point of today and tomorrow, there's so many great sporting events.
College football is awesome.
I love golf and the Masters, but these two days, it is not better than today and tomorrow,
just watching all these games and the craziness that comes with it.
Thursday through Sunday of this weekend is, in my opinion, the best four-day period in sports.
That Saturday last year we all had in Greensboro was one of the most fun.
days I've ever had with you all.
Really was.
It was.
We moved from those recliners, and I would do that again over and over and over.
That was one of the, of all of our travel.
That was one of the most fun days we've ever had, and we didn't leave the place.
We dooredashed every meal, breakfast, lunch, dinner.
We did.
And you trying to order DoorDash was really, really funny.
We had had some fun at that point in the evening.
To the original point, just knowing you're not doing anything but watching basketball is awesome.
Top five Drew moment is him trying to order DoorDash.
That was a top five Matt Jones moment for me.
Don't blame me.
It's you all.
By the way, I call that Saturday.
What do you think of the Shohei Otani thing?
So like, you know, Shannon likes conspiracies.
I mean, this is an amazing conspiracy.
So this dude had, okay, so let's do the undisputed facts.
Shoahatani's interpreter had $4.5 million.
a gambling debt within a legal bookmaker.
He claims he thought it was legal.
Shannon, I understand there's a language barrier, but still, you have to know like there's
a difference between when you're handing a dude cash, you've got to know that that's
probably not legal.
Yeah, you can't play dumb here.
But either way, four and a half million dollars.
Show Aotani says, he goes to show Aotani is like, I have gambling debt.
Will you pay it off for me?
and he says yes, $4.5 million.
So start with this.
Chohay Otani, best friend of all time, Ryan, $4.5 million?
$4.5 million to pay off a gambling debt.
I mean, that's insane.
Sitting on $700 million, though.
I don't care.
Okay, I don't.
Listen, you can say that all you want, but let me put it a different way, Shane.
Let's put it in money for you.
Sure.
Okay, he's sitting on a $700 million contract.
The estimate of his worth right now is $450 million.
That's one-tenth of his worth.
I don't know what your worth is, Shannon.
About $30,000.
Let's say it's how shut up, you own like six homes.
Let's say, though, let's just say it's a half million dollars.
Yeah.
Are you just going to hand your friend $5,000?
Just hand it to him?
Probably not.
No.
I mean, you're not.
I know you're not going to.
I mean, I know you're not going to.
Do you need it to just pay off your gambling debt?
No, absolutely not.
No.
Okay, so $4.5 million.
So start with that.
Then ESPN.
finds out about it. ESPN goes to him and says, hey man, what happened? The interpreter,
who should have never said a word, comes out and said, show hey,'s my buddy. He decided to help me,
right? And he goes, hey, he decided to help me. ESPN goes, oh, okay. Then I guess somebody
realized in Showhays team that him paying off a gambling debt doesn't look good. The next day,
they come out and say, he stole $4.5 million from Shohei Otani. But, but, you know,
But two hours before they make that statement, they're in the dugout together, like hanging out.
That game we talked about, the opener in Korea, they look like best friends.
So then the guy comes back and goes, yeah, I don't have a comment.
So, and Shohei's name is on these checks.
So clearly Shohei was paying for it.
So, Ryan, now this story, like, now there's people.
Maybe it was Shohei that was betting.
Or maybe Shohei knew and was, like, now it's become a huge thing.
thing and nobody knows what's happened.
Yeah, I saw it this morning, and I was even kind of trying to follow it along because it
looked, if the guy stole it from Sohey, is he now going to cover for him?
You know, is he that good a friend?
He was either going to give him the $4.5 million or he's just going to cover for him and
said, you know, no, he didn't steal it.
I gave it to him.
Oh, so you think he was stealing it from showing?
That crossed my mind that maybe he was stealing it.
But if he was stealing it, how are they sitting in the dugout laughing with each other?
like hours before
like Shannon if he was stealing
wouldn't he be mad about that?
That's what I'm saying like
and did he not know
that he was stealing if he knew it
then you wouldn't just be hanging out with him like
if ESPN knew it
throwing up with him
and Shohei Otani had to be no
know it right?
How would ESPN have known he stole the money
before Shohei knew his own money
was stolen?
That can't be true.
Yeah something's not adding up
and you know if it's showing
coming from Otani's bank account
like how did he get into
his account. He couldn't have gotten into his account unless he was like a power of attorney.
Right. I just, I find it bizarre. I mean, chances are the truth is what the dude first said.
Show, hey, loan him the money. But then they're like, maybe I'll get in trouble if it shows that I
paid off his debt. And now they're trying to cover, but it's too late, right? It's very bizarre.
I'll say, and I think Shannon will agree as a Braves fan, Lifetime Band. I think we got to get him out.
There's no place for this. Yeah. And Pete Rose, what does he think about all this?
He's got to be furious.
