Starting point is 00:00:00 Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and Friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter.
Starting point is 00:00:23 Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and Friends on the I-Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where SportsSlice comes in. I'm Timbo, and every episode we're cutting through the noise, breaking down the biggest moments in sports and giving you the real story behind the headlines. And we're going straight to the source, the athletes themselves.
Starting point is 00:00:51 Their locker room stories, their reactions in the moment, and the stuff nobody gets to hear. Listen to Sports Slice on the iHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your And for more, follow Timbo Slica Life 12 in the TikTok podcast network on TikTok. What's up, guys? This is Clivert Taylor the 4th. And on my podcast, The Clivert Show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff. Like being an internet famous referee.
Starting point is 00:01:14 We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me. He goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Time out. Quarterback on office blue with 42. A rep, my mama want you to wave at her. What?
Starting point is 00:01:31 Where's she at? Hey, Miss Parker. Listen to the Clifford Show on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Looking for a mortgage bank to help you make your next major mortgage move, whether it's a refi or a home purchase, regardless of whether it's your first one or one of many. Consider our friends at Stockton Mortgage.
Starting point is 00:01:55 But don't just take our word for it. Stockton Mortgage has over 70,000 five-star reviews and counting. just like this review from Joshua, who says this about his experience with Stockton. They were super professional. Always answered my questions I had and streamlined the process. I could not ask for better people to help me and my family get our first house. I feel blessed to be able to go through them. Be like Joshua or the 69,999 others just like him
Starting point is 00:02:22 and get started with Stockton Mortgage Today by going to stockton.com and get started. I've even used Stockton Mortgage myself on my own home loan. your home loan needs stockton dot com and click get started stockton mortgage nmLS 8259 equal housing lender nmLS consumer access dot org welcome to hour two of kentucky sports radio presented by stockton mortgage now here's matt jones welcome back hour number two toucky sports radio 859 280 2287 text machine 772 774 we're going to go the phone here in just a second uh show hey otani's interpret or Shoah O'Tani just released a statement saying he was a victim of a massive theft. But I thought his interpreter was the person that would give the statement.
Starting point is 00:03:11 So do you already get a new one? This is so bizarre. That's a crazy, crazy story there. It seems in my brain it's most likely Shohei might have been dabbling a little bit. Oh, you think he was betting? Well, if he's betting, he's banned. I mean, you betty? You might be banning the best player of all time.
Starting point is 00:03:33 Go Braves. Why would you attach yourself to a guy gambling? Why would you put your whole career to protect your buddy? Why would you gamble if you have $700 million? I don't know. Boredom? I guess it must be boredom if that's what people do. I don't.
Starting point is 00:03:48 And then that also gets it to. And I know it's game day. I'm getting right back to the games, but the whole Kate Middleton thing, right? Like now they release a video where it looks like they're being followed by ghosts and like it's all grainy. and what could possibly be going on? Like, I don't care about those people at all.
Starting point is 00:04:04 But this story is so weird, I can't help but care about it. They're investigating, like, the doctors at the hospital think they release some of her records, her medical records, or tried to or something. It's getting crazy. So what are they saying? I don't follow it. What are they saying is wrong with her? Did she have a surgery? Abdominal surgery.
Starting point is 00:04:24 So why don't they just say that? Like, why is that bad? Why don't they just say she had abdominal surgery and she doesn't feel well? That's what the internet wants to know. That's why there's conspiracy theories because they're not saying anything. So as you said, you're letting the internet wonder and there's all kinds of things out there. So apparently she says like apparently they have to do something at Easter, Shannon. So that's what we find out at Easter?
Starting point is 00:04:45 So are they now saying that this video of her walking around is not her and somebody else? Is that what I've seen on TikTok? Like there's no way they would have decided to release a fake video of her and a body double. Like, are these the Keystone cops? Like, what are they thinking? I don't. It's clearly her in the video. I mean, what's not clear?
Starting point is 00:05:04 It's grainy. But it's her, though, right? It's her. Why did they shoot it through a potato? Like, why didn't they have an actual nice camera? You can see enough to know that it's her. It's not somebody else. It's just the internet wondering.
Starting point is 00:05:16 It is, they have made those people much more fascinating to me than they were. One person writes, Matt, what do you and Drew? I guess they don't care what Ryan and Shannon think. What do you and Drew? What's your percentage? chance that we win the game today. Let's go around. I'll let you go first, Shannon. What's the percentage chance? 90%. Okay, right. 91%. Okay. I was going to say 90. We'll just keep it there. Keep it going. I'm going 94. 94. Okay. I think, I actually think the opposite of what the Oakland
Starting point is 00:05:47 coach thought. I think we got a really good matchup for us. They don't have any size. They don't, they play zone. I just feel like, Ryan, this is, like, you could, like, all the things that teams do that are hard to us, play physical, man-to-man, rebound, Ryan, they don't do any of those things, right? Right. And, you know, if they stay in that zone, I mean, one thing we've seen, if Antonio Rees gets an open look, most of the time, it's going down. When Reed Shepherd gets an open look, it's going down.
Starting point is 00:06:17 I mean, we can play that lineup that I like so much. We can play Trey Mitchell at the five in this game. I was pretty surprised by their lack of size yesterday at the practice. They're tiny. Yeah. Also, I'm even hesitant to say it because we're known to jinx things. When I was out there, I don't even think I saw them make a shot. I even was talking.
Starting point is 00:06:36 I have a video I put on Twitter. You can watch it. They just keep firing and they keep bouncing off the room. But, I mean, like that lineup I like so much, Shane, and we can play it. Trey Mitchell at the 5 is a definite, you can do that in this game because they don't have any size. Yeah. And, you know, that's what Greg Campi was saying. Their seven-footers don't score, but you don't have to play them.
Starting point is 00:06:56 You can play Trey Mitchell. We can play three. We can play three. We can play five guys that can shoot three. And you cannot play zone against a team that has five guys who can shoot three. You'll get lit up if you do that. So if it changes the starting lineup, is that the possible change? Trey in for Ugo?
Starting point is 00:07:12 Just make that change. In this game, I would think about it. I mean, I would think about in this game. You go out there and you put Shepard, Dillingham, Reves, Wagner, and Mitchell. Like, how they going to play? They can't play zone against that team? I wouldn't think so. The one thing Kentucky will have to figure out, the one way you can get beat is therefore
Starting point is 00:07:37 Trey Townsend can go off. He's done it. He had 38 in their Horizon League championship. So then you put a DUD. He's got some size. He can fight. That's where you're, I think it's going to have to be a big Adoo game. Yeah, you're going to play a Doo's mission should be focus on Trey Townsend.
Starting point is 00:07:50 Yeah. You're right. So maybe the four. Because that guy's got, he's tough. The four may have to be a do for that reason. No, you're right. That's the adieu matchup. All right, Shannon, who's up first?
Starting point is 00:07:59 We'll start with Steve. Steve. How are you, Steve? Hey, Matt. Hey, before you talk, just a second, Steve, I want to, because your name being Steve, I do want to mention a longtime listener to this show and a longtime caller of Louisville radio shows for 25 years, Steve Terry, who was big into horse racing. Steve Moody.
Starting point is 00:08:22 Moody, I'm sorry. Big into horse racing. You've heard his voice. If I played it for you, you would know it. He's been calling this show for years. He passed away this week. And so, Ryan, you knew him even better than me, just real quick on his passing. Just a legend in the horse racing industry.
Starting point is 00:08:40 He worked for covering horses. He called every single. He listened to every show. He called every show. Long-time friend of a lot of people here in Lexington. I was his realtor. So it was really kind of sad. He'd been in bad health for a long time.
Starting point is 00:08:52 It was sad that he had passed yesterday. If you, all of you would know his voice. Yeah. And he has called off and passed away this week. So rest in peace, someone very involved in the horse industry and a long time part of sports talk radio. So I didn't want to acknowledge that. Go ahead, Steve. Okay.
Starting point is 00:09:11 So I'm downtown Pittsburgh right now. And y'all were looking for a bar to host. Is that correct? Correct. Okay. This is Forbes Tavern. And it's about a half mile from the. arena and the manager there said they would be more than welcome to have us.
Starting point is 00:09:31 They have an area upstairs. So you say it's a half mile from the arena? Correct. Okay. All right. I'll tell you what. Hang on. Give Shannon your number and I'm going to have Drew check it out online and assuming it
Starting point is 00:09:48 meets what we need. We'll call you after the show, okay? Sounds good. All right. Hang on. Shannon will get your phone number. Who's next, Shannon? All right, let's go to Scott. Scott, go ahead, Scott.
Starting point is 00:10:01 Hey, guys. I heard from a friend at the game last night that Byron Metcalfe during one of the timeouts, Myron, yeah, he was pitching met caffeinated hot takes to Tom Crean. And Tom Crean absolutely loved the idea. So you'll have to ask him about it next time you're on the air with him. I'll see what we're doing. I'll be listening, and I'll be listening. Okay, thanks, guys.
Starting point is 00:10:24 Thank you. That's an ESP a joke. He's trying to think of a branded segment, and he wanted to call it Metcalfinated hot tanks. I like that. You know, Shannon, I love Goose's Givens. I think that's right up there with that. Let's do a couple picks here for the early games.
Starting point is 00:10:40 The first game is Michigan State, Mississippi State. Ryan, one point spread. Who you got? I'm taking Mississippi State. I believe in him. The dentist. I'm going to pull it off. I like the dentist, too.
Starting point is 00:10:50 He's going to pull some teeth and knock his O. I put some of my actual hard-earned money on Mississippi State. I like them in this game. Shannon, you like Mississippi State? He's getting phone numbers. BYU and Duquesne. As I mentioned on Fade this, Duquesne is both the media relations people here for this game today for Kentucky and they're playing BYU. Mormons versus Dukies. What do you got? I wish the number were a little lower. BYU is a big favorite here, but I still think they're going to play well in advance. I'm rooting for Mark Pope out there. Yeah, Ryan, does Mark Pope get it done?
Starting point is 00:11:24 I do like Mark Pope, and it would remind me, Scott Padgett is on the dentist's staff, Mississippi State. I can't forget to mention that. Yes, he is. He's on the Mississippi State. He's a gentle hygienist. That's right. I like that one. Ryan did.
Starting point is 00:11:39 I felt good. I got a pop there. You never know when Ryan's going to be really, really proud of something. I was very proud of you for having that line. Thank you. You did really. really like it. By the way, the UK player that shot the greatest percentage of shots from three that we can find, yeah? We didn't mention him. Darnel Dodson. Seventy-six percent of the shots he took at Kentucky were from three.
Starting point is 00:12:07 Wow. And I saw Ryan's pick, Derek Miller has the most attempts in a single season while playing fewer games than a lot of people on the list. So Ryan had a good call there too. Yeah, he took a ton of everythings. But yeah, it took a ton of threes. But Darnell Dodson, an answer to the truth. trivia question you might have at your local park. A forgotten cat. Also, Shannon, guess how old Christopher Lloyd was in Back to the Future? Oh, God. 52. I was going to say, yeah.
Starting point is 00:12:34 Tony Soprano at the star of the Sopranos, 36. That's crazy to me. I am older than Tony Soprano right now. What he's starting? Two episodes. Wow. 36 in the first season of the Sopran. That is wild.
Starting point is 00:12:48 That is wild. Who's next? Let's go to Darren. Darren, go ahead, Darren. Hey, Matt, first time, long time. Who up? So we've seen a lot of Kentucky license plates on the way to Pittsburgh. We're on our way right now to Shadyside.
Starting point is 00:13:06 Our main thing we was going to ask you is, do you have any recommendations for any, like, lunch spot? Because we have no clue what to get once we get down there. Are you talking about Shadyside or the arena? Shadyside is 15 minutes from the arena. Yeah, the only thing I had somebody with a strong knowledge of the area tell me to go to Martha's Kitchen, but we haven't been there yet. So I can't. That's the only thing I know.
Starting point is 00:13:33 But I appreciate the call. Martha's Kitchen is what everybody says is the place over here. But it's only open to like. I do did mention it. They asked to do what his favorite place to eat was, and he said that. But it's only open to like three. It's a breakfast place, I think. We know some good bridges if you need to walk around, but we haven't hit the food scene too much.
Starting point is 00:13:50 I think a lot of people are staying over here in Shadyside. It might be a party. I know Pramani Brothers is like the Pittsburgh food everyone's supposed to get. But I don't know. We've eaten that. We have. I'm just saying to Kentucky fans getting here for the first time. That's the local cuisine.
Starting point is 00:14:03 Yes. Yeah, that's what people say to a do. Ryan, our bracket is hanging up out front. Does it look beautiful before we win the whole thing? It looks outstanding. Walk past it when I came in this morning. They've got it all filled out. It's ready to go starting here in a couple minutes.
Starting point is 00:14:18 So, yeah, it looks really, really good. You know, the first year, I filled it out. and the handwriting was questionable it was so-so it was that was the st peter's year we think that kind of played a role yeah you know i i don't have the best handwriting i freely acknowledge that so we let somebody else do it this year but by the way one of the things we'll do is if you're at the bar when a game is over ryan if you ask we will let you fill out oh we'll let you move the teams down the list. Nice.
Starting point is 00:14:56 Okay. Well, I'll be here just about all day today so I can help get somebody pick them out. Why don't you help facilitate that? Okay. If someone wants to write one, they'll come to you. That way the managers can manage the restaurant and you can help with the bracket. I will do that. I'll have my Sharpie in my pocket and ready to go.
Starting point is 00:15:13 Yeah, don't remember, don't write directly on it so we can use it again. We use the little things. Who's next? Let's go to Danny. Danny. Go ahead, Danny. Hey Matt, I may be in the small majority here, but I'm almost hoping that a lot of UK fans don't show up. I feel like that we play better on the road.
Starting point is 00:15:30 Look at our home record this year. It wasn't that great. And I was at the St. Pete game and a few other games. The crowd just completely gets tight. I think the kids feel it. If we're down three in the first half, the crowd feels like their energy just stinks. Like, we've already lost the game. So I think they do better.
Starting point is 00:15:47 The further they advance and playing with the crowds that are more evenly dispersed. It's like that takes pressure off the kids. That's just my being. It's an interesting point. What do you think about that, Ryan? You think there's a chance they play better because without our crowd? Because our crowd, when we're struggling, they do get tense, and they do kind of, you can almost feel it in the atmosphere.
Starting point is 00:16:05 Well, you know, look what they did this year. They went down to Auburn and one, went to Tennessee and one, went to Florida and one, you know, some places that were tough environments to play. I think this is one of those groups that plays better with a little chip on their shoulder and being the underdog when they can step into the arena. And you know what's going to happen, too, if we don't have a lot of Kentucky fans there, fans of other teams are going to pull for the underdog.
Starting point is 00:16:24 Oh, yeah. It's going to turn into a road game. What's hard about the first and second round games, especially the first round game, is that often the atmospheres aren't good and you have to create your own energy, Drew, like you do. By the time you get to the weekend, it's a pretty good crowd. But often for the first round, especially these early games that happen in the afternoon, the arena might be almost empty and you have to create your own energy. do you think this team would be able to do that?
Starting point is 00:16:52 I hope so. You know, when the caller said he doesn't want fans to travel, I think I even had a visible reaction over here. Like, well, that's dumb, but then he reminded me Kentucky played its best games on the road. Maybe there is something to that. We also have to remember, no matter the stop, all the other fan bases team up to root against us.
Starting point is 00:17:08 Whether whoever, name the teams. The other seven. They all team up. And I'll tell you who I think we'll have a lot of people here is NC State because it's close and they haven't been good. They're on a little run. If NC State, if you're there fan base and you're playing the second game and Kentucky is sitting there in the first game, Ryan, you're rooting up for Oakland
Starting point is 00:17:28 because you'd love to beat Texas Tech and play Oakland instead of Kentucky. So they will be very loud against us. Happens all the time. We saw it even at the SEC tournament. All the Alabama fans start cheering for Texas A&M. Yep, yep. So we had this part of being in Kentucky. It's game on at Don Franklin's family of dealership.
Starting point is 00:17:47 steer your way over to Don Franklin Auto.com, the largest inventory of new, used, and certified pre-owned vehicles, whether you want a heated steering wheel, lane assist, or great car technology. It's all there at Don Franklin. 27 dealerships across the state. Go to Don Franklin. com. Reserve now, it is Don Franklin. We will take a break.
Starting point is 00:18:06 Be here back. This is KSR. Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio. So we're looking at these places, trying to figure out where to do this stuff today. the place the guy suggested, the Forbes Tavern looks really nice, but it's small and it looks to only have one television. So Drew and I may just go and walk around and see what we can find.
Starting point is 00:18:31 If anybody else, I appreciate those of you that are trying to help. Some of you are picking places that are way too far away. I mean, we've got to be very close to the arena in order to be able to do that. I got that set up at that place you asked me to. But that's a mile and a half away, though. I mean, like, if she says to get on the train, I mean, we got a, that's a way's way. I mean, I appreciate her doing it.
Starting point is 00:18:51 It's very nice, but, like, you know, right, a mile and a half is kind of far away, right? If we have to get on a train. No. I wouldn't think so. Okay. I mean, but, like, right after the game, a mile and a half away, get on a train? Like, we have to do, you know, we have to do the post-game press conference. It's a little far away, isn't it?
Starting point is 00:19:15 And our parking spots are right at the arena. The post-game there. I mean, we walked more than that last week in Nashville. Yep. Okay. I'm not going to argue. Ten roof was two blocks away from the arena. The goal is to give it to where fans have somewhere to go,
Starting point is 00:19:30 and they're not going to hop on a train and go to the other side of town, right? Okay. All right. No, I appreciate people trying. I do. I mean, I'm not trying to downplay. That's very nice of people, but I'm trying to make it to where people coming out of the game would have somewhere to go, and that's it, you know.
Starting point is 00:19:45 But we'll figure it out, and we'll tweet out wherever we're going, Drew, when it's over. And I'll call that person, Ryan, so that you feel good about it. The high school game started. Who's playing right now, Ryan? We don't have it on in here right now. There are something going on with their TV.
Starting point is 00:20:06 It is Harlan County and Warren Central. Harlan County and Warren Central. The kid going to South Carolina. Trent Noah. We should hopefully will be, I hope he does not good at South Carolina. He can be good today. Have a good game today.
Starting point is 00:20:22 I don't want him to be good at South Carolina. Who's up next, Shannon? Orvin. Orvin. How are you, Orvin? Hey, what's up, Matt? Guess where I live? Where do you live, Orvin?
Starting point is 00:20:35 Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Oh, that's where I was just a couple of days ago. In your town, interesting town, Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Like, very hilly, all those houses, the row houses. It's got an interesting look. Yeah, you were in south side. That's why north side and one side is completely different. Okay, gotcha. That side of town is pretty hilly.
Starting point is 00:21:00 Yeah, very hilly. So what do you got? That was it. That was it. Oh, you were just, okay. Well, listen, it was not. I enjoyed being there. Do you go to Lehigh? No, actually, I lived here. I moved here about 11 years ago, and I'm a big Kentucky fan, so I listen to you guys every day. Well, you ought to make the drive down here if they win for Saturday's game. Well, I am making the drive down there. Perfect. Well, when you get here, come find us.
Starting point is 00:21:31 I'd love to say hello. I will definitely. I met you guys in Philly for the United States game. I go to every Kentucky game that's there. Well, good. Well, we will see you down here. I appreciate the call. I do have a lot of people riding saying they're driving today.
Starting point is 00:21:46 That's good. So maybe that will make that atmosphere better. tonight. Yeah, I mean, I know there's a lot of traveling we could have, but with this group that we all agree is special, and they're a bunch of fan favorites. We don't have a lot of opportunities with them, so I hope as many fans travel and go see them as they can get in there. Can I tell you a nice story, Shannon, for a second before we go to the break and get too fully
Starting point is 00:22:06 into the March Madness? I was sitting at ESPN Monday, and I was having lunch in the cafeteria. There were these two women sitting behind me, and I were talking, and I heard one of them say to the other one. So is the Bible, the New Testament, and the Old Testament? And the other woman goes, I'm not sure. And so, you know, Shannon, I thought that would be helpful. Yeah. I just said, I just looked back and said, yeah, it is for the Christian, you know, for Christian people, the new and the Old Testament. And she goes, oh, okay, thank you. And then they went back and talked. Then one of them gets up to go to the bathroom or whatever. And the other woman looks at me. And she's probably
Starting point is 00:22:49 her 50s, but she looks younger. I think, well, she told me she was 55. And she said, I have a question for you. And Shannon, now remember, that's the extent of our interaction was what I just told you. Yeah. She looks at me and she goes, you know, are you a believer? Are you a Christian? And I said yes.
Starting point is 00:23:05 And she goes, you know, I've really been getting closer to God recently. And she said, I'm starting to go to church. And she said, you know, I feel more at peace than I've ever felt. But my sister-in-law keeps telling you. me that it's actually the devil trying to fool me and that my peace isn't real and that I'm actually not a Christian. Do you think? Wow. Wow. That's a lot to throw in your lap if you just said a little. I was just eating a salad. Yeah. And like that's a lot. You know what I mean? Like, that's a lot. There's a lot of dynamics. God, her sister-in-law. So I don't really totally know what to
Starting point is 00:23:48 say, but I basically said to her, and this is my thing, I say this a lot online. Your relationship with God does not need your sister-in-law's intervention. That's a good answer. Your sister-in-law is not your portal to God. I said if you feel like your relationship is strong, if you're following what you believe you should, if you're, she said she was reading the Bible. I was like, if you're reading the Bible and you're at peace, why let her disrupt it? You worry about your own relationship and you don't have to worry about hers. And I said, if she had a peaceful relationship with God, do you think she would be trying to intervene in yours?
Starting point is 00:24:27 And she said, wow, that's a really good point. And then her friend came back, so I turned back around. As we're leaving, she comes back to me and she goes, thank you so much for saying that. I feel so much better. And so then I was like, wow, Shannon, that was heavy. You may have just changed somebody's life. No, I'm not saying that.
Starting point is 00:24:46 I mean, maybe you did. SPN cafeteria. You never know what kind of conversation you're going to have. That's a lot of stuff to kind of have happen in the cafeteria. It is. So I wish that woman the best. But I was like, that's a lot, you know. It's pretty heavy for a lot.
Starting point is 00:25:01 Before, Seth Greenberg wouldn't even speak to me. And then, oh, wait a minute, I didn't mean to say. We assumed. Either way, I liked talking to her more. We'll be right back. T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay.
Starting point is 00:25:17 Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. Welcome back, Kentucky Sports Radio. 3.10 p.m. today, Ryan, Moorhead State plays Illinois. Any chance our friends from down the road can pull off the upset. You know, they get a little love. It seems like across the country because the way Moorhead plays, they try to slow it down and maybe try to catch Illinois on a bad shooting night.
Starting point is 00:25:42 So I don't know. I would still pick Illinois. I don't know what the spread is, but maybe they could cover the spread. It's currently 11. Yeah. Got them covering the 11? Yeah, I don't know. I mean, I'd love to see Preston do well.
Starting point is 00:25:55 I think this might be his last run at Moorhead State. And I think for a guy from that area, it would be nice to get a victory. I'm probably going to pick Illinois. But Moorhead's a live dog, I think they're, Shannon. They got a shot in Omaha. Yeah, I think they've got a legitimate chance. And it would be even better for his next move that we talked about a couple of days ago. We don't know exactly where he's going, but there's been reports.
Starting point is 00:26:21 Sorry, Morhead lost to Little Rock in the regular season and then won by like 15 in their conference championship. So they're a little hot. Most teams are entering the tournament. They're in a good place. 859-280-2287. One person writes, Matt, as we go into this game tonight, I think a lot of our fans are gun shy because of what happened at the SEC tournament, what happened against St. Petersburg, do you think a win tonight will make people believe? I think a win this weekend is how you get people kind of back believing. I think tonight will obviously be a good step,
Starting point is 00:26:54 but I think that game Saturday is going to be the game, Drew, that, you know, they got to win it. And then if we go to Dallas and we have a week leading up to it, I think the fans will be like, Randy, putting us in the final four. But I do sense a lot of people kind of being hesitant, which is odd to me because I think the draw we got was perfect, But I get it. I mean, we've kind of gotten, it feels like in big games over the last four years,
Starting point is 00:27:20 when we've gotten our hopes up, it hadn't worked out. And I think that's what people are worried about. And if you're actually traveling to these and spending the money, especially if you were just in Nashville. I mean, we know friends that are out a lot of money thinking they would get at least two games down there. I could see why you'd be hesitant to just turn around and do it again when you took that big hit to your wallet a week ago. But I think for the most part, people's confidence what the team will do is still pretty high.
Starting point is 00:27:44 might just be a little hesitant to pull out that credit card for a trip right away. Ryan, I mean, are you hesitant to believe, like you're going to watch the game tonight at the bar? Do you think you're going to be in a celebratory environment? I think so because, you know, what you and I said on the postgame show, a lot of my temperament and a lot of fan tournament is going to be is the draw. And when the draw came out in our favor, I mean, I'm immediately like, yes, they can do this. I've seen them play the capability where they can make a run now with this draw they've got. So, yeah, I'll be here rooting them on, hoping we end up in Dallas for sure next weekend.
Starting point is 00:28:14 I hope we do too. I think we will. I'm actually, and maybe this is bad, but I'm actually, I feel like much more positive about this than it seems like a lot of the fans. I think we couldn't have asked for a better draw. I mean, I think, I don't think you could have asked for a better 14 seed. I'm not sure you could have asked for much better of a 6 and an 11 seed. And then I know you couldn't have asked for a better 2 seed, right? So I don't know.
Starting point is 00:28:42 I mean, I feel good. Look, if we lose one of these games before the Elite 8, then it was a disaster. Yep. That's at the end of the day, this is set up to where this is very clear. If we lose before the Elite 8, this season was a failure.
Starting point is 00:29:01 Now, once we get to the Elite 8, that's a different story. Depends on who we play, depends on how we play. I get all that. But I'm of the belief, Shannon, that when you consider this draw, if we don't get to the Elite 8, it was a failure. It just was this year with considering the talent we have.
Starting point is 00:29:20 I think most fans would be right there with you. I mean, when we started the season, we all felt like Elite 8 was the line where you got to get to. You've got to get to that point in the season. Otherwise, it's going to be a failure. And considering, again, like you just said, the talent, the way this team has played, we've seen how capable they are. There's no reason they shouldn't make the Elite 8 with the path that they have in front. front of them. But I do think we're going to make it. I do. That's not just me saying that.
Starting point is 00:29:44 I genuinely think even though we lost more games than we should have, we probably should have been like a two seed if we had played the way we should have all year. Instead, we're a three. We could have been a four, but we became a three. I don't think you could have drawn a better path. So knowing that, now we just got to go and do it. Who's up next? The only thing is, Oakland Phil is the same way. They say they couldn't have asked for a better three-seat. do they really believe that? I mean, they would they really would rather have had us. They got to do that to feel good.
Starting point is 00:30:17 Let them be confident. But when the ball's tipped, it should not be a close matchup. That's hard for me to see. Shano. Shano. How are you, Shano? Hey, guys. Long time, long time. I'm right there with you, Matt, as far as getting this draw. I've got friends that are Auburn fans.
Starting point is 00:30:37 You guys know Scooter. and anyway he was saying how that they are that we got their seed basically and I agree we should make it to the elite eight because we have one and two seed talent on this team and I don't see why
Starting point is 00:30:58 we couldn't make a huge run so anyway hey one or two shout out Jim Higden with cornbread hemp it definitely helps me at night And I've been through a lot of head trauma with the cats. So anyway, appreciate you guys. Well, I'm glad you're able to. I'm glad it's able to help you.
Starting point is 00:31:16 I appreciate the call. I would say, if I'm Auburn, I am upset. I mean, if I'm Auburn, I'm upset. I mean, you know, you win the SEC tournament. You end up with basically the same resume Kentucky has, and you won the SEC tournament. They didn't, and you got a four and they got a three. With that said, though, when they won the SEC tournament,
Starting point is 00:31:35 they got a break. They didn't really have to play any of the good teams. They didn't have to play us. They didn't have to play Tennessee. They didn't have to play Alabama. So they weren't able to get a win that helped their resume. And, Ryan, if it was tied between Kentucky and Auburn, we beat them at their place. So that was probably the difference.
Starting point is 00:31:50 Yeah, you laid that out for us that one day, said it's not necessarily your number of wins. But who did you beat and where did you beat them and how did you beat them? I mean, that's kind of what the selection committee based a lot of their decisions on that. The Virginia Tech coach, by the way, was asked in his NCAA thing, about my report that he was a leading candidate for the Kentucky job, and he did not deny it. He said there will always be a lot of speculation and talk about blah, blah, blah, blah. It's not a no. That's not a no.
Starting point is 00:32:21 Not a know at all. Not a know. Yeah. So I think, I'm not saying he's going to get the job, but I think that's probably where Kentucky is targeting right now. Yeah. I mean, if he didn't deny their conversations, then I mean, if you're sitting there at the NCAA thing and you're saying, here I'll read his exact quote. Let me pull it up here. There's a lot of speculation in talking.
Starting point is 00:32:43 Obviously, if you have success, people are interested. But again, my focus is on what we're doing right now. Shannon, that's not a denial in the list. That's a very political answer. Yeah, that is not. Probably what you have to say, though, in that situation, you know? I mean, I guess you could say, no. I mean, Jeff Walls, Jeff Walls at Louisville said, I'm not going anywhere.
Starting point is 00:33:02 Then you're just straight up lying. I like his answer. But Jeff Walls is not going to Kentucky. I mean, like, my point is. is if you're considering it, yes, that's what you say. Yeah. But if you're not considering it, you just say I'm not considering it. Right.
Starting point is 00:33:15 Which means he's considering it. Which means he's considering it. Sure. So, I mean, I think that's pretty obvious. He's clearly considering the Kentucky job and all the Virginia Tech fans that were in my mentions last night saying I was making it up. You can shut your little hokey mouth because I was correct. Sorry. Who's next?
Starting point is 00:33:34 Cathead. Well, I didn't like that. I can tell. You knew I, you heard me having the, you stood up off the couch. You heard me having the conversation. You knew I wasn't making it up. And all those people were like, you don't know what you're talking about. Matt Jones disconnect.
Starting point is 00:33:47 Same thing with the Louisville fans. When I said their first choice was Scott Drew and their second choice was Dusty May. And they all were like, Matt Jones doesn't have sources at Louisville anymore. And then it came out their first choice was Scott Drew and they're going after Dusty May. So maybe shut up and listen and maybe I actually know something I'm saying. Go ahead. Hey, Matt. Doreen, Sharon, Ryan, how's it going?
Starting point is 00:34:11 Hey. Sorry about that. Go ahead, sir. Hey, no, no, I love the rent. Hey, this is Caddhead from Georgetown. So I just calling in again. Yeah, we was one of the people. Some of the fans in Nashville, we try to get down there every year.
Starting point is 00:34:26 And I think as a fan base, we're just all disappointed over the last few years. I mean, you go to all these tournaments and win one game or lose one game, and it's over. But I've heard a lot of people talk about. Since we have done so bad, if we make the Sweet 16, that's good enough. That is not good enough. That's not good enough for Kentucky basketball. And I would like to hear what you all think about. I mean, I agree with you on that, to be honest with you.
Starting point is 00:34:50 I mean, look, I mean, this is a conversation probably for next week. I appreciate to call. Let's get through this weekend. But, Ryan, this team with the talent they have, and considering the last few years, I think this team has to make a run. If they had had a great regular season or if they won the SEC, tournament and then they got upset, I wouldn't love it, but I'd say that happens. But we had a, in my opinion, a B minus regular season, B to B minus regular season.
Starting point is 00:35:18 We lost in the first round of the SEC tournament. And now the only way to me to make this season seem successful is if you go out, Ryan, and you make a run in the NCAA tournament. Yes, with Cal's been pointing to this group. He got his guys. This is the year. I've got my guys. We're going to make a run.
Starting point is 00:35:36 and I think it's even more crucial now because they did get beat last weekend in Nashville. So I think it's more important. You cannot excuse regular season losses by saying we're a March team and then go losing March. I think most of the fan base
Starting point is 00:35:53 says there were some struggles throughout the regular season. At the end of the day we'd all go well at least we got March coming up. No matter what you thought of Wilmington losing three in a row at Rupp Arena, lose the SEC, I don't care who you are in the back of your brain you're like
Starting point is 00:36:06 we still have that NCAA tournament. And if they fizzle out of that too early, then it was a failure. You can't, I talked about this during the regular season. You can't set up a sort of phenomenon where nothing matters, right? You can't, during the regular season, excuse losses by talking about March. And then when you get to March, say, well, we had a great regular. Look at the draft next year. You have to have something that matters and that means something.
Starting point is 00:36:34 I think at Kentucky, everything should matter. I think the regular season should matter, the SEC tournament should matter, and the NCAA tournament should matter. But what you cannot do, even if you disagree with me, is say nothing matters. And what matters is the spiritual enjoyment of basketball. No, this is Kentucky. We have to win, and we haven't won enough recently. You have a bracket where you can go win. You have a bracket where you couldn't have drawn it up better to the,
Starting point is 00:37:04 elite eight now go get there then when we get there we'll evaluate it then but there is no excuse for this team with this talent to not go to the elite eight and it starts tonight and i think they're going to do it i think we're going to the elite eight but shannon we need to go to the elite eight yeah it's time yeah it's time we're tired of talking about next season it's i'm tired of you need to as a as as as as amy brooks used to say at my high school, quit bleeping, talking about it and do it. And I kind of agree. Now it's time to go do it. And then tonight we take cornbread hip so that we can go to sleep. Go to cornbread hemp.com. The promo code is KSR, full spectrum flower only hemp CBD, helps you rest, helps you relax, helps you get your mind right so that you can be ready for a full day of games tomorrow.
Starting point is 00:37:58 Check them out, Jim Higden and his guys. And if use a code KSR, my grass is blue t-shirt is ready for you. from Cornbread Hemp. We'll take a break. Beery back. Kentucky Sports Radio. Welcome back, Kentucky Sports Radio. By the way, big kudos to Cala Perry yesterday who used the platform of the NCAA tournament
Starting point is 00:38:15 to say he doesn't want to expand the NCAA tournament. Said the little guys need to make it. Absolutely. I totally agree. Don't screw it up. If you decide to expand it by four or eight teams, whatever, like I wish you wouldn't, but that's fine. But this thing that's floating around
Starting point is 00:38:32 that you don't give automatic bids to small schools, I think would be a tragedy. That's what makes this tournament great. Part of it is the first and second rounds of what's happening today. And Ryan, they can't get away from that. They cannot. I agree.
Starting point is 00:38:46 Even last night, Grambling got their first ever win in the NCAA tournament, man. Just, you know, get the chance to play the playing. It was an exciting game. Yes, it was. So I'm all for that also. Today, like, Nebraska versus Texas A&M, I don't care about that.
Starting point is 00:39:00 I want to watch Moorhead try to upset a top dog. These, the major conferences where you kind of get their fifth team versus another conference, I don't care about that. I want the little guy swinging up against one of the best. We hated it because we lost. But St. Peters is iconic to people because of that game. You can't get away from that. You cannot take that away from the tournament or else it's just a bunch of games.
Starting point is 00:39:23 And if they make that mistake, they'll never get it back. It'll never come back if they do that. They cannot lose what makes it great. If you want to add some more play-in teams, whatever, okay, but you cannot get away from the little guy against the big guy. Oakland versus Kentucky is what this whole thing is about. It's really one of the only sports, maybe the only American sport where you can get that kind of a wide spread. You're exactly right. It's the only American sport where the haves and the have-nots really get to play each other, like for real.
Starting point is 00:39:58 And you can't, you just, you can't get away from it. And by the way, because it's happening, go to Draft Kings, one of America's top-rated sports app, bet five bucks, you get $150 instantly in bonus bets, promo code is KSR. Go to Draft Kings now, use it, get your bonus bets in. Might as well do it now before it starts. And remember, there's a KSR bonus that goes right now. On your app, you get a 50% boost from wherever you are. If you go to KS bar, it's 100% boost.
Starting point is 00:40:25 If you use all these, you'll be boosting yourself into the sun. Go to KS, go to the Draft Kings app. You have a game and problem called 180,000, physically present, Kentucky. Don't expect, expire, 168 hours after issue. It's eligibility and deposit for six-apply. Terms, sportsbook.draft teams.com slash B-ball. Who's next, Shannon? All right, let's go to Noah.
Starting point is 00:40:43 Noah. Go ahead, Noah. Hey, my name's, yeah, Noah. And I drove here with James Edwards. We just came from the high school, and now we're here. Man, we watched Lyon County and Travis Perry. He was crazy. What do you think that he'll add to Kentucky? lucky next year.
Starting point is 00:41:02 I think it'll be really good. I think people, he's not Reed Shepherd, Ryan. It's a different thing. Like, he's a different player. No, I appreciate to call, but I do think he can be, I think he can contribute, but I do think people need to understand, Ryan. He's different than Reed Shepherd, different kind of guy. He is a different kind of guy.
Starting point is 00:41:20 Travis Perry is a guy that can score a bunch in a hurry. Like, I saw him score 18 points in the first quarter at the Lexington Cali tournament. When he gets hot and gets rolling, he's hard to stop. Yeah, but, but I, I think you need to be careful trying to make him into Reed Shepard 2, because I don't think that's what he is. I think people need to understand that.
Starting point is 00:41:40 I was already a little worried about that before Reed even had this crazy year in their draft talks that people are already going to be comparing them. I will say the three-pointer when Travis Perry is open, that will look similar to Reed. It wouldn't shock me if he leads the conference of the team in three-point shooting. But, you know, the steals and the athleticism, some of the stuff Reed has. Travis still has a little bit to go on that. Who's next, Shannon? Brad.
Starting point is 00:42:01 Brad, go ahead, Brad. Hey, was it, boys. Happy Tony Day. I had no intention to call him today, but what you shared about the ESPN lunchroom, I just had to share this with you, Matt. It was kind of a crazy thing. I was at a ministry event last night, and the whole thing was just geared towards prayer and the power of prayer.
Starting point is 00:42:24 I don't want to cut you off. I just have, like, 30 seconds, though, so you do have to go quick. Yeah, I got you. I'm going to go fast. And at the end of it, everybody was this challenge to pray for people by name. And no offense to you, but I got plenty of people in my personal sphere of influence to be praying for. But you were specifically put in my mind in that time. And I don't know why.
Starting point is 00:42:52 But like I said, I had no intention of calling and sharing that. But when you brought that up, I just wanted to call and share that with you, brother. just encourage you. I love you guys' show and go cast, man. That's very sweet of you, man. I mean it. I'm not just saying that, that I would enter your bind at all in that. So, God bless you. That's very sweet of you, and I do really appreciate it. What's your name? You'll be in mind tonight. All right. What was his name? Did you have it? Well, I'll just say the call. That's very sweet of you to say. Let's go over some scheduling here. Ryan, you're going to be at KS Bar all day, right?
Starting point is 00:43:29 high school games and the tournament comes on. We got all of it there. We got specials. We're giving away those little draft kings basketballs there, Ryan, right? There in the building. Yeah, they're not coming out until a game, to the game? Is that right?
Starting point is 00:43:42 Is that the plan? I don't know. This is you to take care of it. Okay. You're on the scene there. Drew, you and I, our pregame show, will be at 430 today. Ready to rock. We'll do it in 430, wherever it is.
Starting point is 00:43:55 We will tweet out where we are. But the post game, especially, after we, we win, come say hello. We'll let you know where we're going to be. But pregame is at 4.30 for all of you. The game is at 7 o'clock. Drew and I'll pick the game on the pregame. Quickly, Ryan, give me your score and your MVP. I like Kentucky by, I'll say 96 to 72. MVP? MVP, I'm going to go. You're going to give me the first choice. I got Antonio Rees. All right, Shannon. Kentucky 917. Shepard. Shepard. Drew and I will do ours on the postgame show. If you want to come watch the game at the bar, I would
Starting point is 00:44:28 say get there early, get your spot. Let's get this victory. It's time for us to get some March wins starting tonight. This has been Kentucky Sports Radio.
