a couple quick things first of all what are they going to do on the radio show tonight at six o'clock
that's the big thing for me in this decision-making.
I mean, Tom Leach is sitting down with someone at 6 p.m. to wrap up the season.
And if it's Cal, that could be a weird conversation.
But then if it's just Mitch sitting there, that's weird too.
Yeah.
I mean, remember back in the day, didn't they have, like, Jeff Shepard do it or something
when Tubby was kind of?
Well, Cal didn't do the one after St. Peters.
Remember that was a big deal.
What did they do instead?
I don't remember.
What do you think they do, Shamed?
I think Cal's on there.
I don't know if he's in studio or if he calls in on a phone from Jersey.
But if he's in there, if he's on there, then he's the coach.
Well, he is for that moment.
Like they're not going to put him on there.
Well, he's going to be here by six.
Yeah.
So they're not going to put him on there with his job in flux.
Mitch isn't going to give him an hour on the radio to make his case if Mitch is considering firing him behind the scenes.
So if he's on and I think he's here.
The women's Utah State coach went out there and did a press conference after she got fired.
She did.
I don't think you want that again.
Maybe he hands it off to an assistant one last time.
It'll be fitting.
Here's a briser.
That'll be interesting.
I'm very interested at what happens at 6 o'clock tonight.
Because it could be anything.
It's going to be must listen to radio.
Highest ratings ever in that show tonight at 6?
It's big for our boy, Billy.
It is.
It's got to get that out onto the air.
What about the Harold leader spelling Calipari's name wrong on the front page?
So today in the print version of the,
the herald leader. It is spelled
Calipari with a K.
I guess I know how that can
happen, but I still don't understand how it can get to
print and not one set of eyeballs
was like, hey, wait a minute, that's not how you spell that.
I get that they now edit
this. Like, a lot of
that's kind of sad. They've cut
the local newsrooms. They've cut
the local editors.
So it's sad. I'm sure that
was edited by somebody that doesn't live
here. Still, though,
Shannon. Somebody had to have seen it and said it's not a K. It's a title. It's huge.
Is that what newspapers are now? You just type something up and you don't have anybody else look at it first.
It just goes out to the paper, to the masses. That's the KSR.
That's wild. I will say, however, it makes me want to buy a copy just for like, you know.
I mean, I remember on 9-11, on 9-12, like the newspapers, you know, the newspapers, you
couldn't get one because everybody wanted to have a piece of history, Shannon, right?
Right.
Yeah.
This is not the same exactly, but like for history, that's an unbelievable error.
Yeah, if this was the end.
He's the most famous person in the state.
How do you spell his name wrong?
I know you don't agree with me on this, but I feel like it was done intentionally.
But here's the ultimate disrespect.
How do we disrespect somebody on print?
You either find the worst pictures you can.
Yeah, but John Clay, whose article it's about, is saying we should keep him.
I feel bad for John Clay.
So why would you spell the name wrong in an article that's trying to say they should keep him?
Well, I haven't read the article.
I just saw the print, and I just said immediately that has to be intentional, because how do you make that mistake?
How does that happen?
I do feel bad for John Clay because people are going to act like he doesn't know how to spell his name.
His name's, John's name's under the story, and that wasn't his doing.
It wouldn't have been John's.
That's supposed to be the power K that they put there in front of Calgary.
Maybe just made people want to think it was Coach K.
Yeah.
That might be what it is.
Like an editor somewhere has heard Coach K over the years.
That was my first thought.
And thought like, well, it must be a K.
Cal even talked to Coach K fairly recently and said,
do you get confused as much as I do and is weird because Coach K was like,
no, that doesn't happen.
But Cal clearly gets called Coach K enough that he brought it up.
Because John Clay's original story did not spell it, Calap.
with the C. He knows Ben.
And that's not like a pun or clever.
So it might have been somebody who was like,
he must have been a K, right?
You think someone cleaned it out.
John Clay did not write
See, John Clay did not write K-A-L.
No, John did not.
So someone had to have affirmatively been like,
well, John Clay's an idiot.
Clearly there's a K.
Wouldn't you Google that if there was any,
like, doubt?
Any doubt at all?
maybe we should look it up just to make sure.
It's an unbelievable.
I can't believe, especially, Shannon, with what's going on right now.
Yes, like, yes.
Like, more people are paying attention now than ever.
It would be as if Biden won the presidency and you named him widened the 91.
And it's not like the first sentence.
It is the biggest word on the front page of the newspaper.
And I'm trying to think about QR.
C is not even next to K.
No.
I mean, I can tell you what C is next to, Shannon X, because I always make that mistake with SEC.
Yeah, the C network.
But look where the C is and look where the K is.
They're not even close to each of.
So how could you do that?
It had to be, the person had to say, this must be how you spell it.
Who loses their job first?
Calipari or the person that typed that article?
Oh, the person to type that article.
I mean, you can't keep an.
editor who puts on the front page in bold calip.
It's like if you said Kentucky, but with a C.
It's really, it truly is unbelievable.
It's unbelievable.
All right.
I want to do something right now.
And I hate to do this, but at the same time, I want to do it because somebody wrote
me and said, Matt, this is, you guys are not positive enough here.
We should talk about the good things that happened in this season.
Okay.
And not the bad things.
you act like you speak for the fan base who wants a change,
but I think most of the fans don't.
Okay, so I have sort of acted like that.
I'm not going to put up a poll on Twitter
because I don't think it's representative
and because I have followers from other fan bases,
Shannon, that will jump in and it won't be accurate.
I try to skew it, yeah.
But I will say the listeners of this show would be pretty accurate.
I would argue the listeners of this show
are the most representative group of the fan base.
you can get outside of like polling everybody.
It's young, it's old, it's men, it's women, it's season ticket holders, it's people in small towns,
there are donors listening, there are Joe and Franks listening, right?
So let's just do this.
The text machine, 772-774-554.
All I want is you to write one word.
Keep change.
Keep Cal, change the coach.
What do you think the numbers will be, Shannon?
And I'll keep track of.
90% change.
What do you think?
I'll go 80-20, just to be a little more optimistic on my boat.
So I'm going to let it roll here as you take these calls.
Keep change.
That's all I want.
Just one word, 772-745254.
and John Clay, K-L-A-Y.
Is that keep with a C?
Keep or change, okay?
And I will, as we do this, sort of get a sense of where people are.
Go ahead, Jim.
Nathan.
Nathan.
Go ahead, Nathan.
Hey, guys.
I'd like to get your take on sports betting, and if you think it had any influence on any of our games this year,
I'm not saying anybody's on the take or anything.
It's hard to see how, you know, Kentucky lose some of these games.
games where we come in like eight, nine point favorites.
And like this past game, you know, we just seem like there's a lot of guys lost out
there on the floor.
No, I don't think sports betting has anything to do with anything.
I mean, I look, first of all, there's been sports betting forever.
And as I've said before, if someone was going to fix a game, they ain't fixing a Kentucky game.
They're going to fix some random game that nobody pays attention to because there's too much
scrutiny on Kentucky games.
Yes, I agree.
One other thing, you don't have to answer it today, maybe sometime this week.
I'd like to get your thoughts on the Otani situation and what's going on with Major League
Baseball right now, though.
Yeah, no, I think that's a, we'll talk about that later in the week.
I think that's an interesting question.
I appreciate it.
I'm sitting here watching them come in, Shannon.
I'm going to say,
80 to 85% change.
Maybe more towards, I mean, they come in groups, it looks like,
but I would say I'm actually screen recording them coming in.
I'm watching your thing bounce.
Because I'm screen, here's why I'm screen recording.
I don't want people to say, oh, Matt, you're just saying it's what it is.
Yeah.
So I'm screen recording so that I could put out if I want as they come in.
And I would say 80-20 change, maybe 85.
It's about right.
It's about what Drew said, right in between what Drew and I said.
Yeah.
So it's terrible that it's come to this point, but here we are.
Yeah, I mean, that's, look, to me, this is as good as a representation as you're going to get, right?
Because I don't, I don't know a way to pull the fan base better than this.
And you're, again, it's probably 80 to 85% change, and it's still coming.
because remember this is on delay, so this will just keep coming over the next couple of minutes.
Who's next?
Let's go to Edy.
Edy.
Go ahead, Aidi.
Hey, hey, guys.
First off, Matt, I enjoyed your Twitter space last night, and you do not sound odd, whatever you said at first there.
I'd like to see you to them more again.
But anyway, I'd like for people to make a list of why you would keep cow, why you would fire cow.
and then who would want to hire a coach who had an opportunity with one of the greatest college basketball programs in history
and this year had one of the highest ranked recruiting classes and achieved next to nothing.
Well, here's what's interesting to me, Edie.
All right.
So at Kentucky, I think you make a change.
But if I'm any other team in the country outside of about six, I'd hire Cal in a minute.
No, I'm being real about that.
Yeah, oh, yes, for sure.
Like, let's just look at the jobs that have been open in the last few days,
and there will be more come open.
The three jobs that were the most prominent were probably Michigan, Louisville, and Vandy.
If I was Michigan, Louisville, and Vandy, I'd hire Cal in a second.
Oh, yeah.
I'd love to see him in a second.
At all three schools, I'd hire him in a second.
But in Kentucky, I think you would want to change.
So I know that sounds crazy, but I don't think it is.
I appreciate the call, E.B., what do you think?
I agree with you.
And I think if he were to go have to take another job,
I think that job would get more energy and fire than year 16 at Kentucky.
I think his Prove Me Wrong tour would go crazy where he ended up.
He would probably say some not-so-good things of us back in Lexington to build up wherever he is next.
And whatever school that would be, they would get the fire that we feel like he lost.
So here's what's going to be hard if you let him go.
He's going to go to one of these schools, Shannon.
He's going to take all his recruits with it.
Yep.
And it's going to feel bad initially because it's going to be like, are you kidding me?
And then depending on what conference he goes in, he might actually do really well.
He's going to have renewed energy.
So it's like this.
And I pre.
Well, he's just already going.
Let me put it a different way.
By the way, be careful texting me right now.
Because if you text me, your name is going to pop up too.
on these keep change videos.
Somebody gets saved in your bone,
the contact.
I'm just saying,
oh,
wait a minute.
Oh,
he gave me a copy.
Oh,
look at this.
Somebody brought me a print copy
of Calvary with a K.
Thank you very much.
Well,
I have one for history.
There you go.
Boy,
I didn't realize the,
look how thin the newspaper is.
Put that thing on eBay.
Well,
all right,
I'm keeping that.
Thank you, sir.
But,
so,
so let's put it like this.
All right.
here's what I think makes ex-wives frustrated.
They and their husband get divorced.
The husband had gotten kind of fat, right, Shannon?
Oh, yeah, a little too comfortable.
He stopped Karen.
He didn't take the wife out to dinner anymore.
Flowers stop showing up.
He forgets the anniversary.
He forgets Valentine's Day.
Then he gets divorced at 43.
All of a sudden, he hires a trainer.
He gets in shape.
He goes and he gets hair plug.
right like he starts to date and then he becomes the romantic again are we talking about
i'm not talking about ryan okay just we start just i mean it's checking a lot off on that list
he's making sure we're still on kentucky basketball here he starts bringing chocolates over
right and all of a sudden he gets a new woman and it's like this is a new man right and the
ex-wife goes why weren't you what
Why didn't you just do that with us?
But like, he didn't.
That's what will happen with Cal.
Cal will go somewhere else.
He'll get reinvigorated.
He'll bring in the recruits, and he will probably succeed.
And then a lot of people will go, why did we let him go?
Well, the answer is he wasn't doing that stuff here.
So the question is, can he, to quote Chris Rock, but not quite as graphically,
Can Cal make himself new again?
That's what this year was supposed to be.
We talked a year about how he's new again,
and it got the same result.
This was supposed to be that year.
So, Shannon, like, that's kind of what it is.
It's almost, I'm back to it's damned if you do, it's damned if you don't.
Yep.
I love the analogy.
The only thing is, if they do let him go,
he can't go to another SEC school.
That cannot happen.
I don't think it will happen, but it can't happen if you let him go here.
What if he went to Vandy?
You're saying you don't want that?
No, I just told you if he went to Vandy, that would be, could you imagine him getting all the recruits at Vandy?
Can that even happen?
It really is. That's what makes it so hard for Mitch, is that, like, he might very well go somewhere else and do well.
Because I know that's the thing.
I know in him is still a good coach.
It is.
That's a question if he's going to do it.
Court physical therapy.
If we need a new coach, maybe that's what happens.
Go to court physical therapy, get in shape.
You don't have to be in pain.
Call court.
K-O-R-T.com, 70 locations around the state.
If you've got a joint injury or you're just sitting there aching, don't do it.
Go to court.
K-O-R-T.com.
It's court.com.
Physical therapy there.
Don't need a doctor referral.
There's what near you.
Don't feel bad.
Go to court.
com.
We'll talk a little bit more about what's happened in the tournament outside of us.
And we'll get ready.
Tonight's a night for Cal and UK.
This is Kentucky Sports Radio.
I think good times really over.
It's a great song, by the way.
Merle.
Are we rolling like stowball?
Poor hell.
You get on podcast.
Podcast.
So the way, keep going.
No, I'm good.
He'll say something right here about the liberty bell.
You got a dancer over here.
That's right.
It's a great song.
I just say something like when a Ford and a Chevy would last 10 years.
10 years like they should.
Yeah.
All right.
I'm not doing any more, Shandy.
You're going to try to catch me.
You have two more lines here.
No, no, no.
The best of the free life is behind us now.
Are the good times really over for good?
There you go.
859-280-22-87.
What person writes on the text machine?
Matt, you give yourself way too much credit.
Most of the UK basketball fan base does not listen to your show.
You're too political and liberal.
Well, you're listening.
Yeah.
I mean, you may think most don't listen.
That's fine.
But you're listening to this liberal political nonsense.
I think it's all your liberal nonsense that got us here in the first place.
This is true, by the way.
Me being liberal certainly has an effect on my view on the UK basketball team.
It does.
And the outcome of last Thursday's game.
Yes.
If I was conservative, we would have beaten Oakland.
I feel like this is uniting all of us, really.
Everybody's on the same.
Like, you don't have to, like, I wouldn't.
He then says, though, please listen to Reed's comments regarding this team and the results.
He certainly doesn't agree with your biased positions.
Well, I would hope not.
He's on the team.
What's he going to do?
I mean, if Reed Shepard is saying we need to, then that would be really bad.
I don't expect the players on the team to agree.
Guess what?
If I go interview the assistant coaches, I bet they're going to say good things as well.
That's like what they should do.
They're on the team.
If you interview Drew whether or not Matt is a good radio show host,
he's not going to say no.
At least I hope he wins.
You never know.
I mean, they have to say positive things.
They have to say positive things.
And they should think positive things.
I totally agree with you.
The rest of the tournament, you had five teams pull big upsets in the first round.
Grand Canyon, Yale, James Madison, Oakland, and Duquesne,
and all five lost in the second round.
Of the top 16 seeds, 12 of them made it to the sweet 16.
Two of the other ones that made it are five seeds,
so I don't really consider those upsets.
So really the only two teams that made it that are upsets
is North Carolina State, who made it because we lost,
and Clemson, who did pull off a little bit of an upset against Baylor,
but that's a three versus a six.
That's not a crazy upset.
What I take away from all this is really the only two teams that really didn't do what they're supposed to do is us in Auburn.
Auburn, that was, I mean, other than Kentucky, very surprising, too.
I hate to admit this.
I filled out three brackets at different websites that our KSR on three, but my ESPN bracket.
I had Auburn in the championship game, so I can throw that one away.
I did not see that coming at all in round one.
Any year when it's parity this, parity that, we have all the ones and two seeds and two of the three.
seeds three seeds in there too. So outside of those two disappointments and the SEC overall,
it's been pretty chalk. But it also says if you're Kentucky and Auburn, you're like,
are you kidding me? Also, that's why I don't want to hear people talk about, well, Matt, it's
parody, man, anything can happen, man. The year we lost to St. Peters, you remember who the final
floor was that year? Duke, North Carolina, Kansas is in Villanova. And now this year,
only two teams lower than a five seed made it to the sweet 16.
and they're both in the ACC.
And one of them's cause us.
The only parody is happening to Kentucky.
And we have the only parody is happening to us.
That's right.
Tennessee is the one from our conference.
The one we don't want still in the mix can still do something.
And by the way, most of the power teams not only advanced, they crushed the teams they were playing.
Outside of Houston, those games in round one, in round two were blowouts, most of them.
By the Houston game was a great game.
What's up with A&M?
They do this every year.
They're not good.
Then they're going to run in the SEC.
And if they get in the mix, they're swinging at anybody.
I mean, he needs to start whatever he's coaching them in February, March, start that November.
Because once again, they were almost, almost took down a one last night.
That was a crazy finish on that buzzer beater and regulation.
Who's next ship?
Kevin.
Kevin, go ahead, Kevin.
Yeah, thanks for taking my call, guys.
I got a question and a comment.
I'll start with my comment.
Mitch Barnhart kind of has a history of giving, you know, coaches.
some more time than what they need to improve things.
But I think, if you all recall, a couple years ago, he had kind of a come-to-Jesus meeting with
Caliperi, and he had to come out in state.
He had to come out in state, you know, like, hey, here's the plan.
I met with Caliperi.
I feel like he's put the plan in place.
So hopefully if that, you know, that happened, I think it was two years ago.
Hopefully he's got a set of Cajonais, and he sticks.
to that.
I think that's a good point I'd forgotten.
So two years ago after they lost to St. Peters, you may remember,
Mitch made a statement right after the game that I don't think Cal liked,
where he was like, this has got to get better and immediately.
I don't think Cal liked that.
And they did have sort of a come-to-Jesus moment for both of them
where they tried to get back on the same page, and I think that went positively.
But now it's been two years later, and nothing's really changed.
So Mitch said deeply disappointed after that St. Peter's game.
And it's been more of the same, if not worse, since.
And the fact that it's almost four days since the loss and he still hasn't talked,
says to me that everything's on the table.
You may remember I did a Twitter space last night,
and a guy named Nate tried to get on to talk about something.
He is one of the big NIL boosters for UK.
We will have Nate on the show.
Oh, on the show.
He's tried to call in.
He can never get in.
So we will have him on when we return.
Nate finally speaks right after this.
T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney.
Call T.J. He'll make them pay.
Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Here's Matt Jones.
Welcome back, Techies Sports Radio.
859-28027.
A couple things, Shannon, I want your take on.
What do you think about Jack Golky or whatever's doing in Iowa?
deal for turbotax in the hotel ballroom right after the game happy for that guy i don't know how you
couldn't be i mean it sucks that it came at kentucky's expense but i mean i'm happy for him it's the last
thing he's ever going to get to do at the college basketball level i kind of agree with myron though
couldn't they have sent a camera crew there like like they did like they had him film it on a phone
i do it on the fly when you just you do some stuff on the phone right yeah but i'm not doing well
i'm not doing like a national nil deal had it probably
up there with a coffee maker.
And he did like a fake jumper in the middle of a hotel ballroom.
Get your money.
That's what's good about NIO in March.
He was like, he knew I got to get this money right now.
Yeah.
All right, Kim Mulkey, what about her coming out and saying,
don't read the Washington Post story?
Isn't that just going to make people want to read the Washington Post story, Shannon?
You know what?
I haven't read the Washington Post story.
Well, not out yet.
Oh, I didn't even know there was a Washington Post story,
but now that you brought it up, now I want to read it.
Exactly.
That's my point.
That Washington's Post story would have come out about her, and most people probably wouldn't have cared.
But now that she's preemptively been like, don't publish that, I'll sue you.
We're all going to read it, right?
Of course.
We want to know what's so juicy in there.
So what made you so mad?
So I think that she didn't handle that correctly.
Not at all.
You could have set that story in front of me, and I would not even look at it until she's gone on this tour of worrying about what's in it.
They handled it wrong.
She's hired.
I think I saw the biggest defamation lawyer in the country.
Now I'm like, what is in this story?
When people say that, it always makes me laugh.
She's like, I've hired the best defamation lawyer in the country.
Like, really?
Like, what does that mean?
I've never read the Washington Post.
I've never read the Washington Post, but I will now.
Yes, exactly.
Like, she couldn't have handled that worse.
Like, you literally have made it to now everyone wants to read it.
And you didn't have to do that.
She's making it sound like whatever is on the other side of this paywall that's about to come out is just the...
And also, if you're the Washington Post, like, Shannon, you've written stuff about presidents.
You're not scared of Kim Mulkey.
No, absolutely not. This is great for business if you're the Washington Post.
Like, there are people you could probably intimidate?
I don't think you're intimidating the Washington Post.
They've made movies about what they've done over the years, you know?
And I saw she said something about how they didn't get.
her a chance to reply, but they've been contacting her for two years.
She literally said this reporter's been trying to call me for two years.
And then now they don't give me a chance to reply.
I'm like, you just said he tried to call you for two years.
So we'll see.
It certainly makes it exciting.
Now, I think Nate, is Nate on the phone?
Yes, yeah.
Okay, so this is Nate.
Nate quickly explain to people, because I don't even know if I've met Nate.
We've talked online, but I don't really know Nate.
but Nate, tell people what you do in your situation.
We own a collectibles store in Middle Tennessee,
and we were the first person in our industry to do an NIL deal
with a college football player, which was Will Levis.
And since then we've done, I don't know, 6, 7, 8 NIL deals all with Kentucky football players.
Okay, and if I'm correct, you tell me if I'm wrong.
I mean, you give them pretty big sums of money, or am I wrong about that?
Bill's with a six-figure deal.
The other football players are typically five or low five figure deals.
There are some $5,000 deals.
It's not a lot in that type of deal.
There's not a lot required in those smaller deals.
With the larger deals, obviously, there's more required.
So you had wanted to say something about what's gone on, and I feel free to go ahead.
Yeah, last year, after Oscar declared, Lance left, I think it was down to Just Antonio was the last one on our roster, you know, as far as seniors.
And he had scrubbed his Twitter of Kentucky, the way I remember it anyway.
So I wanted to get a six-figure offer for an NIL deal.
A simple NIL deal was going to be 5,000 signatures for $100,000.
Antonio would make $20 an autograph, sign them whenever he wanted.
And hopefully that would help.
And what I learned throughout the process was basketball is entirely different than football.
I had a couple NIL agents that I reached out to explain that, hey, everything has to go through Cal.
And I'm thinking, what?
So anyway, to make a long story short, I did finally get in touch with an assistant.
I made the offer.
He tells me, you know, this sounds like something Cal would go for, makes sense.
It's a true name, image, likeness, agreement.
We'll let you know.
And, of course, we never hear back from him.
No phone call, no text, no nothing back.
A few days later, Antonio comes back, and I'm like, wow, this is crazy.
Didn't think anything else about it.
Just thought Antonio didn't want to do it.
Fast forward, six, seven months.
It's actually during the season this year.
I get a call from one of those NIL agents and asked me, he says,
hey, I have Antonio and his father sitting in my office looking for small NIL deals.
Do you have anything?
And it just made my blood boil.
You know, I'm thinking.
you know, everybody's got to stop for a second and just think back to when you were in college.
Not, you know, if you're making millions of dollars.
Are you saying you don't think Antonio was ever told about the deal?
Is that what you're saying?
I'm saying that his father and he relayed to the NIL agent, according to the NIL agent,
the offer was never presented to them.
They obviously would have done it if they want a $5,000 or $10,000 deal now.
Now, again, that's the NIL agent telling me that.
I never get a phone call back.
Well, then fast forward this year.
Don't want to go into too much detail because it's not really fair
because the time hasn't really come for them to be reaching out back out.
But there's a seven-figure offer for a player from our business.
We've got no response.
We have no idea if this person or his family has been relayed
the million dollar office.
offer. So again, it's just...
So are you saying you have... Are you saying you have offered a current UK player
a million dollars?
That's correct. I've offered and I've got the receipt. I've got text if you want to see
them from, you know, to be... Yeah, that's okay.
All right. You know, it's one of those...
No, I understand. Well, that, listen, I... So you... So I guess what? Your complaint,
just so I understand, is your complaint that, like, you don't think when it comes
to the Nile stuff,
that it's being communicated correctly?
Correct.
I think at the very least,
Cal has some people under him
that aren't doing their job anywhere near the gold standard.
I mean, we could point out 20 different things,
but this is just something that are actually,
you know, the facts from my point of view,
trying to sign deals with these players
that are pretty easy obligations.
And somewhere along the way,
the player's not even getting the message.
And so,
that said, that's just I had that to offer because that's my one piece of, man, this is not
being run right.
The football program, run great.
All right.
I appreciate the call, Nate.
Thank you very much.
Man.
What do you think of that?
A million dollar offer?
I'm available.
What do you want me to do?
My God.
Can you imagine, though, I mean, really, if you're the player and that's not even being relayed to
you, how furious would that make you?
I don't make me crazy.
If that's assuming that's, assuming that what he says is true, that would make me, yeah, that would make me pretty furious.
We were lucky to have Antonio Reeves and Trey Mitchell on the team.
And I don't think we're speaking out of school saying this, but, you know, there was definitely a complaint, wouldn't you agree, last year, from a lot of the basketball players.
Not this year that just finished, the year before.
I think there was definitely people who thought they were getting money that never came.
Is that fair to say?
Yes.
I think that was a part of the discontent last year, to be quite frank with you.
Not this season, it just finished, but the year before, that guys were told one thing,
and then it didn't happen.
Last year, we were in a hotel coming back from Greensboro after the loss,
and I said, we have to stop saying the gold standard.
If none of the things we're doing are a gold standard, one of that was NIL,
part of it was not even being a participating team after the first wing of the NCAA tournament.
I mean, not to just nitpick.
Remember that blue shovel we gave the number one recruit?
I mean, what are we doing?
That was a kid's toy that we handed a five-star recruit.
Like, here, we're building for the future.
What was that shovel?
I just add that to the list of...
I mean, it would be hard to shovel with that shovel, Shannon.
I don't think you would be able to dig up a lot of dirt.
I mean, these are things that don't really matter, but when you add them up,
it just shows you're not doing what you need to be doing.
Before Stoops, you remember that picture of our recruiting room?
Yes.
And it was like a picnic table with...
And people go, whoa.
It was a church potluck is what that looks like.
That's kind of what I felt like when they were wearing that vest and the little shovel.
So we're not getting the NIL money to the players,
but we're handing them a construction vest and a blue shovel for the visits.
Ryan's not here.
So, Shannon, tell me about Stockton Mortgage.
Stock to mortgage, they're growing.
You know, you don't want to call up some online or get online and deal with people who you don't know.
When you call up Stockton Mortgage, the same person is going to answer the call every single time.
It's a great time to buy.
You can get it to the home of your dreams right now with Stockton.
to mortgage. That's all I got. I don't know. Do you, do you know any other copy points?
Well, I would say it's a great. I went with Ryan yesterday to look at a house and he showed me
around and he was telling me, he was like, with Stockton Mortgage, you could be pre-approved and you can
just get it right now. I could have just walked. Well, I don't know if I could have walked out
with the house. I think like the people would have to move their stuff out first. But with
Stockton Mortgage, you could be ready to go. It's NCUA insured. It's Stockton.com.
You can talk with an actual agent. Go check them out at Stockton.com.
com.
Drew had a really good story about Ryan.
So this is the first time I'd actually use Ryan, you know,
as my agent.
You know what I mean?
We went and saw a house together and I was getting to see Ryan with his agent stuff on.
He was like, look at that.
And then there's this.
And do to do.
And he was like, I ran the comparables.
And like, I'm like, look at Ryan.
He's all.
He's cooking.
Look at my man.
Look at heating and air has been replaced recently.
And bam, bam, bam.
Like just tutic, two.
and I told Drew that and then Drew, you said when he took you on a house visit, what happened?
Well, I said this on the air at the time, so I don't mind repeating it.
I'm not trying to make jokes at my boy's career here because he's good realtor, but he was showing me around a house and the homeowner was there,
and she told me and Abby and Ryan to take our shoes off like anyone do with some nice clean carpet.
They're trying to sell this house, and Ryan kicked off his shoes and more than one toe was exposed in his socks with the holes.
And we're walking around, I'm thinking, we've got to get this man new socks for the next visit.
See, he made fun of me.
But he knew everything about the property.
No, he was ready.
He just didn't have the right socks for that.
He didn't expect to have to take his shoes off.
I don't think.
I don't think he did either.
So I ended up not buying the house, but it wouldn't cause of Ryan or Stockton Mortgage, who are Stockton.
We'll take a break.
Be right back here at KS. Bar and Grill.
Folks, where are you all from there?
Ma'am?
Where are you from?
Midway in the house, great little town.
What they ever do about the RV thing?
Still don't know.
I enjoyed following that controversy about a year ago.
I hadn't heard any updates.
We'll take a break and be right back.
It's Kentucky Sports Radio.
Welcome back.
It is Kentucky Sports Radio.

Draft Kings had a good Saturday.
Saturday was a good day.
Favorites win eight, no.
You know I like to do favorites money lines.
So I had a five-teamer that went great.
So it was a good day if you were a favorites.
Good tournament if you're a favorite, Scott.
Favorites have been killing it all week.
But you go to draft kings.com.
You get the draft kings app, bet $5.
You get up to $150 for March Madness.
You also got baseball coming.
Opening days Thursday.
I didn't think I was going to be able to go.
Unfortunately, I guess I'm going now because I'm going to go to the Reds.
But draft kings, the app, bet $5.
You get $150.
You can do baseball.
You can do hockey.
You can do college basketball.
all just go on in there.
Use the code KSR.
And remember to gamble responsibly.
And if you have a gambling problem called 1-800 gambler, 18 plus, physically present,
Kentucky, bonus bet, expire, 168 hours after issuance, eligibility, deposit, restrict, supply,
terms of sportsbook.
That draftkings.com slash B ball.
One person writes, and I've gotten this question quite a bit.
Matt, it feels like you're going in on trying to get Cal fired.
What do you do if he comes back?
Well, first of all, I'm not going in on anything.
This is my opinion.
Shannon disagrees.
One of the things I don't think is fair about the criticism is that we disagree often, right?
Like we disagree often.
Shannon doesn't think it should happen.
Drew and I think there should be – I've never used the word firing.
I think there should be a separation.
I think there should be a mutually agreed upon separation.
Drew agrees with me.
I don't know what Ryan thinks my guess is he thinks yes, but Shannon doesn't.
And like, that's fine.
But let's say he comes back.
I'm cheering for us to go 31 and 0, and I've.
I want him to stand in the press conference after we win the national championship and tell me to eat it.
That's what I want, because I want us to win.
And winning is more important.
Drew and I had this conversation before the SEC tournament.
I said, I hope they go 9 and 0, and he talks trash the entire time because it would be better for everyone.
I'm still like that.
If he comes back, the day after it's announced he comes back, which could be tomorrow.
I will say, okay, that's over.
Now let's hope we do what we do to win.
What will happen, though, is for a year,
every time I criticize anything, people will go,
oh, you're just mad because he didn't get,
no, it's just my opinion.
But if we bring him back,
I think we then have to all cheer
because we want us to win.
The day you start wanting to be right
more than you want success
is the day you don't really care.
By the way, it's the same thing, Shannon,
you may remember I said after Donald Trump won the presidency.
What did I say the next day?
You didn't like him, but you were going to...
I didn't like him, but I wanted him to succeed.
Yeah, yeah.
The day you stop wanting your team or your country to succeed
because the person in charge you disagree with
is the day you're not really a fan
or you're not really...
You should want whoever is in charge to succeed,
and I will if Cali Perry comes back.
me too I've been a Kentucky fan since I was born I guess about 23 years of that life
cow hadn't even become the coach yet I'm not just going to turn off being a Kentucky fan because of
current circumstances it says that the NBA we don't get better draft picks if we had a bad year
we're just going to fall farther away from all-time wins so whoever's in the seat next year
and the year after that and the year after that until I'm dead I will be rooting for Kentucky to win
against whoever they're playing against whether it's John Cal Perry j right Scott drew or
Shane and the dude, whoever's coaching in that chair next year, I want to see succeed because
that's what's the most important.
I think it's going to take a full calendar year for all of us to get back on board.
I don't think it matters what happens in November, December, January, February.
Well, that's what worries me about him coming back is that no one will care about anything until
March.
Right.
And that will be unfortunately.
Yeah, I want these players to have the full experience.
Whoever's on the team.
If Reed came back, maybe he doesn't.
If it's the current class we have, maybe it's not.
Whoever is in that uniform, they deserve to have a hundred.
100% support behind them.
And I'm worried that where I've said this is broken, that if Cal is back,
they're not going to get the full experience from Big Blue Nation because so many people are that
upset.
Who's up next?
Chris.
Chris, go ahead, Chris.
Hey, so what, uh, why do we feel with, um, you know, there's a team up, up, uh, up, uh,
up the street that's looking for a coach.
You know, what happens?
If they hired Cal, that would just make this circus even more of a circus.
Don't even try to talk that into existence.
That's hard to even fathom, but I think they're going to hire, well, if you listen to their media,
they said they're going to try to hire Will Wade, which is such a Louisville thing to do would
be to go hire Will Wade.
I mean, he'd probably do well there, but that's such a Louisville thing.
Like, hey, we've had all these scandals.
How about Will Wade?
Although I guess everything Will Wade used to do is now legal, so it's probably, okay.
Everybody's got a big ass offer for now.
Let's go to Mike.
Mike, go ahead.
Hey, Matt, first time, long time.
Who are?
So the season, you know, it didn't go our way.
I mean, it was pretty much summed up by getting beat by Division 2, Matthew Perry,
doppelganger.
But if Cal, you know, if we do separate from Cal, who would your top three coaches that
we could go get beat?
Well, I said this last night.
My first choice would be Jay Wright.
I mean, I don't know that he's even interested.
He may or may not even take the call,
but I think that would be the first thing you would do.
And then I think you make it wide open.
I know Mitch likes Scott Drew,
but I think Mitch, one thing he's shown is outside of Joker Phillips,
every coach he's ever hired, he's interviewed multiple people or tried to.
I think that's what you do, because I don't think there would be an obvious choice,
and so you would go and you would do, you would check with everything.
So let me give you a little scheduling.
Tonight, Cal shows at six.
the interesting thing will be who will be on it?
What will they do?
I don't know.
We'll find out.
I think Cal and Mitch are meeting at like four,
and who knows what happens after that?
We might hear something tonight.
I think it's more likely we hear something tomorrow.
When we come on the air tomorrow, who knows what we'll see?
I'm having lunch with my parents,
and then I'm just on waiting duty after that.
I know you are too, Drew.
Who knows?
Tomorrow will be a new day with,
new Harold Leader spelling errors and whatever it ends up happening.
We wait, but Kentucky will be fine in the long run.
I agree.
We'll see you later.
It's been KSR.
