Starting point is 00:00:00 Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and Friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. Those people are starving for banter.

This is Clivert Taylor the 4th. And on my podcast, The Clivert Show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff. Like being an internet famous referee.
Starting point is 00:01:14 We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me. He goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Time out. Quarterback on office blue 42. A rep, my mama want you to wave at her. What?
Starting point is 00:01:31 Where's she at? Hey, Miss Parker. Listen to the Clifford Show on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. I've even used Stockton Mortgage myself on my own home loan. your home loan needs stockton dot com and click get started stockton mortgage nmLS 8259 equal housing lender nmLS consumer access dot org welcome to hour two of kentucky sports radio presented by stockton mortgage now here's matt jones welcome back hour number two here at the ks bar and grill wings day all day day and night wings a dollar come check them out we have lots of new things on the menu i mean it's not a dollar, but the sliders, the brisket, people are loving, you could also get those delivered on DoorDash. But today, if you want a deal, the wings are the deal.
Starting point is 00:03:10 Might be getting some for lunch today. It's a good idea. Somebody asked me one time, can you do DoorDash, the dollar wings? You cannot door that. You can get wings, but they're not a dollar. But you could call in, pick it up, and take it out for a dollar. Yeah, okay. Yeah. So. Gotcha. All right. Let's talk before we go back to phones, players, coming and going.
Starting point is 00:03:30 All right. We're going to do the, let's make a pick. Who comes, this is just a prediction. Okay, this is not. I'm not well informed, so I'm guessing. These are predictions. Let's go, Rob Dillingham. Gone.
Starting point is 00:03:43 I'm going to cry. He's gone. Shannon. Gone. I'm going to say easily gone. Yeah. All right. Okay.
Starting point is 00:03:49 So let's go. I'm going to kind of go in Aaron Bradshaw. I think he's gone. Gone. Shannon. That's a tough one. I'm going to say he's back. gone
Starting point is 00:04:01 you guys must know something on that one no i'm just saying i don't think he'll be here next year uh jesson edwards i think he's gone gone gone all right uh ugo i think he's back gone Shannon yeah if bradshaw comes back then ugo wouldn't come back so i'll say he's gone gone
Starting point is 00:04:23 gone uh z gone gone gone gone gone This is fun. A do. Back. Gone. I'm saying back. I can see him coming back.
Starting point is 00:04:38 Why are you saying gone? I think he'll be a hot commodity and teams will want him. We won't give him the love that he probably deserves. I'm going to say back. This is mine and your first disagreement. DJ Wagner. This is a tough one. I certainly wouldn't have thought it would be tough.
Starting point is 00:05:00 beginning of the year but I agree it's tough. Yeah, I think this is a tough one. I'm going to say back. Drew. Going gone. Shannon. Probably should come back, but I think he'll be gone. He'll go to the league.
Starting point is 00:05:15 I would love to have him back. I think he would thrive more than anyone with the sophomore season. Just to add a shot. Back. I think he's back. I think he's going to be the big surprise. I think that's what Cal was talking about in his radio show. I do, too.
Starting point is 00:05:29 I don't, I'm not perfect with Cal speak, but I'm pretty good with CalSpeak. Yeah. After I listened to a lot of it over the years, he was speaking like he's trying to get DJ Wagner to come back. I think that's what he was talking about. That's the way he was talking. Now, whether it works is a different question,
Starting point is 00:05:45 but he was talking like a guy who was going to try to get DJ Wagner to come back, in my opinion. Jordan Berks. Back. Back. Back. I will say back. I'll say back.
Starting point is 00:06:01 Reed Shepherd. It would be crazy if he came back, but I think he's gone. All right. Gone. I have no knowledge. This is just what my gut tells me. I think he probably would like to come back and enjoy another year, but I don't think business-wise it's the smartest thing for him to do,
Starting point is 00:06:19 so I think he's gone. So I had a person who is the only person I know who has talked to the family. Okay? tell me 80% back. But I'm still saying because he just can't, can he? I mean, like if he's a top 10 pick. Really, losing in the first round, I think, helped
Starting point is 00:06:47 because him more than anyone. I mean, his dad was the final four MVP. He was. I can only imagine how much a March run would mean to him and that family, and they got nothing. So I think by leaving right away in the tournament, that is going to be.
Starting point is 00:07:02 push Reed back a little bit more, but at the end of the day, when that number is in front of him, I just... So you only have Jordan Berks coming back? That's it? Yep. It's Kentucky basketball during the portal, and I even have him entering the portal and getting talked into coming back. Okay. You know, another thing with the Reed argument, you know, he did not play well at the SEC tournament, and he did not play well at the NCAA tournament. So you know that's probably eating at him alive. That too. I should have included. He knows what those mean, and he was one and done in both. He might have that hunger. He might be crazy enough. to come back and try to do another run.
Starting point is 00:07:33 So I have Adieu, Burks, Wagner back. You have Adieu Berks Wagner back, correct? And Ugo. And we forgot Joey Hart. And you have Ugo. Yeah. Yeah, Joey Hart, I'm going to say gone.
Starting point is 00:07:47 Probably going. He didn't even get on the floor. Yeah, I'd say gone. Shannon, you have who back? Adieu, Berks, and really, I'll just say one seven-footer. I'm not, you guys maybe. You have Bradshaw? Yeah, but you guys.
Starting point is 00:07:58 Somebody had Bradshaw? I did. I did, yeah. Okay. So if not Bradshaw, the new go. I think the two to watch are DJ and Reed. And I'll say this. I feel very confident. He'll get one of those two guys. I don't think he gets them both, but I think just by sheer numbers, he'll get one of those guys back. If you made me bet, I would bet DJ.
Starting point is 00:08:26 Because I think he can use that argument, DJ. You come back and you will be a lottery pick next year. We'll make you a lottery pick next year. Because he won't be a lottery pick this year. It will not be this year. He probably won't be a first round pick this year. And so he is exactly what NIL is supposed to do is make, give that guy another shot at it. Because he's got the talent to be a first round pick, but he did not show that this year. Isn't it interesting that Cal's 30-30 was a lot about pushing DJ Wagner to the NBA?
Starting point is 00:08:54 Duane. Or, Duane, excuse me, not DJ, his dad. And then now it might be doing the, and circumstances have changed. That will be one of the most. biggest ironies of all the time. Yeah. He's that Calipari, one of the things he's praised about is telling DeWan to go to the NBA and thus helping him make money because then he had his unfortunate health incident
Starting point is 00:09:13 and maybe his son goes the opposite way is one of the more life's weird, you know? It's interesting. I think it would be right for DJ to do it. I think, like I said, if he added a consistent three-point shot, he's already got the ability to get to the rim and the toughness. I think a year would be very helpful for him. I do think Reed, though, I think it's a lot closer than it would be if it was any other kid in the United States of America. And you know what?
Starting point is 00:09:39 And you guys know this. If he comes back, all of a sudden, we all love Calipari, and we're all on board immediately. No, no. If I'm Cal, okay, let's say I'm Cal and I'm trying to make things as good. Like, I'm trying to get this fan base amped up. Yep. First thing I'm doing is I'm begging Kenny Payne to come take. I'm saying, Kenny, get here.
Starting point is 00:09:58 What do I need to do to get you here? Okay? Second thing I'm doing is I'm going, Reed Shepard, how much? Yeah. I said on Fade this, I think he'll be, if he comes back, the biggest NIL athlete ever in college basketball and probably one of the top five in college sports. It'll be like Livy Dunn, Caleb Williams,
Starting point is 00:10:20 Arch Manning, and Reed Shepard. The Mount Rushmore. You're not kidding. I'm not kidding you. That's not me being an exaggerator. That is true. And then the third thing I do is I would all summer do press conferences, media appearances.
Starting point is 00:10:36 I would try to be everywhere I could be, right? And be the humble and be the dude. He should come on here. He should. He should come on here. But Yon shouldn't just come on here. He should do all these things. He should do all these shows.
Starting point is 00:10:53 He should do all these TV. He should be back to being accessible. Old cow. And so do that, get Reed Shepherd, get Kenny Payne, and I think in the end we'll all be like, all right. Let's go. We're ready for the season to start. So who's next? Let's go to Michael.
Starting point is 00:11:13 Michael. Michael, go ahead, Michael. Hey, man, how are you guys doing? Doing good. Well, I'm really happy that we have given this go-key guy big NIL deals because of his big Cinderella run. So we should get some kickback from that to put in our NILS. stuff. But I think that, you know, he says he needs to go out and get older people, but I think we need people kind of like a Terrence Jones where they can take you off the dribble, they could
Starting point is 00:11:40 shoot, but they could go in and beat you down. Yes. And down low. Julius Randall? Julius Randall was like that? Julius Randall, yeah. And then the other thing I want, and I'll get off out of here, because I know you got a lot of people, but did you see the exchange between Rondo and DeMarcoe Cousin? I thought it was great. We talked. talked about yesterday. I thought those were two guys. The Rondo-Demarcus cousins thing, and I appreciate the call, was basically arguments that have been in every friend's group chat in the United States. People making the case for Cal, people making the, I thought they both had good points, and I liked what the thing I loved about it, I love seeing two dudes who really care about this
Starting point is 00:12:22 university talk. Like Rondo and cousins have like a lot of, they're both smart, they both got lot of attitude. They both were kind of controversial in their own ways, but they both loved this place, Drew, and I like that. I loved watching it, like you said, sure, it was Ronne and Cousins, but if you went downtown and set at a bar, you're going to hear two random Kentucky fans having that exact conversation. They're not two NBA guys that went and got checks and forgot Lexington exist and they've moved on. They're still arguing over, you know, what was really silly, but, you know, cousins defending his guy versus Rondo trying to tell them to look at the program as a whole.
Starting point is 00:12:57 I finally got to listen to it. And my big takeaway, one thing I loved was hearing Rondo talk like that. Because when he was here, he was kind of hard to deal with. And he was in the NBA. He kind of, you know, was at a distance. But since he's been out, he went to a couple of UK football games this year. You now hear him talking about his love for Kentucky in the program. I think I needed to hear that from him, you know, that he still has that feeling for Kentucky.
Starting point is 00:13:20 Well, Burson writes, Matt, what you just did with the players will you do with the staff? Let's go. All right. John Caliperi is here. He's back. Orlando Antigua. Back. I'll go back.
Starting point is 00:13:33 Back. Shannon. Back. Back. I agree. Chin Coleman. Gone. Gone.
Starting point is 00:13:38 Gone. Gone. And I will add, John Calipari is not a serious basketball coach if that, if Chin Coleman is back. That's how bad I think it's been with him. Whoa. I said the other day people have been stealing money. He's the defensive coach for our worst defensive team.
Starting point is 00:13:56 you get in the mud and the gossip it is not pretty for him. That was the shots fired. I didn't expect to come from. Well, that was like, hold on. At some point, is that the first Frank Franklin? Let me go. Let me cook for a second. At some point, somebody's got to stand up for this damn basketball program.
Starting point is 00:14:12 And if I got to be the bad guy, I will. But we got to clean up the behind the scenes and get serious about being a basketball team. Yeah. Wow. Franklin. Somebody's got to say it. This is Kentucky basketball. Let's clean it up.
Starting point is 00:14:25 Frankie Franklin. Frankie Franklin. Whoa, I've been working with you for 15 years, and I haven't seen you that series. I haven't seen that emotion. I barely remember our last final four, Matt. This can't keep going on. Frank! Dude, right the time down, Shannon.
Starting point is 00:14:45 I've not seen a Frank Franklin like that ever. Somebody's got to say it or it's another year of it. All right. All right, John Welch. He's gone. What? He's gone? Wait, no, I'm sorry.
Starting point is 00:15:00 You don't know who that is. Yeah, he's the one they keep. I got a messed up with the other guy. He's the offensive guy. I'm going back. Yeah. Back. I'll go back.
Starting point is 00:15:08 Chuck Martin. He's the one is gone. Yeah, I'll say Chuck's back. Part of this is we have no clue what a lot of these people do. I couldn't pick Chuck Martin out of the line. I didn't even know he's our next to sign. I mean it. I think he was big in getting Big Z.
Starting point is 00:15:21 international ties. It's his first year. I have not heard anything bad about Chuck Martin. I didn't even know he's here to begin with. I think he's gone. Chuck Martin, who's that? He's back. All right. Bruce or Flynn? Gone. Gone. Gone. Chris Willard. Gone. Head of basketball operations. By the way, I think he's gone. Gone. So we're all in agreement. Frank Franklin's a little bit more passionate about it. Wow, that was amazing.
Starting point is 00:15:52 I love it. Who's that? Who's next? There's a lot of people listening right now, nod in their head. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Go ahead. It's Frank.
Starting point is 00:16:02 Frank. How are you, Frank? I'm good. I'm glad he said what everybody knows that Chin Coleman has been a disaster. So it's, you know, don't let the door hit you on the way out. You know, I think, Matt, the scoop that you got is good to know that there's institutional changes that are going to be made. But you know what?
Starting point is 00:16:21 None of it's going to matter if it doesn't really pay dividends from a schematic standpoint. You know, we talk about 2019 from now all the time, but let's go back to the glory days and look at the situations that we've discussed a pretty good amount. Bo Ryan, Kevin Alley, Bruce Weber, ran circles around him in the biggest moment. He is not a good offensive coach. I mean, he just isn't. X's and O's.
Starting point is 00:16:44 There's a reason that they're such an easy team to prepare for. when it comes to game planning. Defensively, this year was an absolute joke. Rebounding was bad. The fundamentals weren't good. I don't know what not going to the Bahamas is going to do either. It's not going to do anything. That was the most ridiculous.
Starting point is 00:17:01 That was the most ridiculous. I just tweeted this, like, you know, this thread at you. And that was the first thing I said. Yeah, Oakland went to Italy last year, by the way. Yeah. So last thing, I just, I don't know who they're going to do. If they really will bring back Kenny, they'll bring back Robic. Go look to the,
Starting point is 00:17:19 NBA, but it's got to be somebody that can change it up. I totally agree with everything you just said. Everything you just said. I appreciate the call. It's, it's, I think there are guys on the staff who are good X and O guys, but you know what? It doesn't matter if Cal doesn't listen to them. If at the end of the games, John Welch draws up the greatest play in the world, if
Starting point is 00:17:37 Cow doesn't run it, what difference is it? Right? Like, if they draw the greatest game playing in the world and Cal marks it out and just writes, fight, what are you going to do? Like, on some level, like, you can have all those guys, but it's up for Cal, you. to listen to them. And it's up for Cal to let him, let him cook. And I, you know, we got to be a, we got to be the program of more than go and fight. Like, we got to be the program of this dude comes off a double screen. You got to hedge him, make sure that he gets checked. And like,
Starting point is 00:18:09 you got to do all that stuff. We can't just sit there and go go. And then that's going to be how we win. You just can't, you can't just clear out and go one on one against a zone. which is what we did most of the game. We tried to go one-on-one against the zone. The one thing you can't do against the zone, we did it. The final plays, if you go watch our final plays in regulation, we're lucky that we made some shots, but we didn't run any plays. Against the zone, we just took threes.
Starting point is 00:18:36 Now, they went in a couple of them, but like, you got Antonio Reeves standing there in the corner, giving the ball, right? Flash to the middle, and we didn't do any of it. I have got to do this. I had a few more things to say about it. Well, I'm going to leave with you, Frank. Shady Ray's. Stop overpaying for sunglasses.
Starting point is 00:18:55 Now, you could see if he's ready to cook. I'm just going to let him simmer. I'm just going to yell at a guest. Are you tired of the inexpensive sunglasses only to lose or break them? Shady Ray's, an independent American-owned company will take care of you. Premium polarized shades for all of your needs, and if you lose them, they'll replace them. Use the code KSR for 50% off, two or more pairs at the flagship location at the summit or at shadyrays. go.com. Go check it out.
Starting point is 00:19:18 It's Shady Ray's. We are here at KS. Bar. It's Wingsday. Frank's cooking. We'll be right back. Kentucky Sports Radio. Welcome back. Kentucky Sports Radio. Matt Jones, Ryan Lemon, Shannon, the dude, and Mr. Passion himself, Frank Franklin. One person writes, Matt.
Starting point is 00:19:35 This will be by Kentucky branded tweet of the day. By the way, that's my whiskey thief song of the day because I do like Hank Williams. Yeah. The Kentucky branded tweet of the day, Matt, tell Drew to be late every day if he's going to bring that every day. time. True. It was the traffic got into me. I didn't get breakfast. I'm a little hangary. I will add one thing since I obviously am not a fan of at least one person on the staff.
Starting point is 00:19:57 You think? The overall big picture is still that we keep its assistance. Was it Barbie and justice? Is it now Chin and whoever? At some point, John Caliperi knows his office and his staff is not doing what they need to do. I know for a fact someone has gone up to him and said people aren't doing what they need to do. he ran it back with that group. So ultimately this falls on him. I mean, I just yelled about one person in particular that I think has dropped the ball in a lot of things. But John Cali – this isn't news to John Caliperry. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:28 No, I agree with that. At some point, if you keep hiring assistants that are not working, it's on you. Right. Like, I mean, it's not always the assistance fault. Now, the assistant can be part of it, but you're the one that hired him. I mean, part of the problem is he's always hiring, like, his guys instead of going and hiring, like, the best person for the job. One person writes, Matt, you all didn't say anything about Tyler Ulys.
Starting point is 00:20:54 What about him? I think, I don't know what the Tyler Uis situation is with his job. So like, I don't know, you know, he's a student and assistant. I don't know how long you get to do that. I will tell you this. I think he did an amazing job. I think Cal loved him. So I think if there is a way to keep Tyler Ullis, they will.
Starting point is 00:21:12 I don't necessarily know what that, like those jobs are limited. You can only do them for so long, so I don't know the answer to that. I think it's only two years, and this was his second year. This was his second year. So then at that point, you either have to create a position for him. But remember, the limits on that stuff went away, I think. So you can have, like, analysts and stuff. So I, but everything I heard is that he did an awesome job,
Starting point is 00:21:38 and I hope if he wants to, he can stay. That'd be good for Caliperi's brand keeping him around too. I agree. That's another fan favorite. Who's next? Mark. Mark, go ahead. Mark. What's going on, man? What's going on? Hey, real quick, I want to touch on a couple of things.
Starting point is 00:21:56 My problem that I've seen over this Caliperia arrow, probably the last five years, and he's struggling with the balance of a couple years ago, we just weren't good enough. Talent-wise, we had a talent dirt a couple years ago. Our point guard play was terrible. This year, we had guard play, but we didn't have tough kids. We didn't have defense in mind. kids that would go in there and tough things out. And he's struggling with that. And I don't know how to balance. I think the teams that are doing the best in this new era are the teams that can balance young talent
Starting point is 00:22:31 along with experience talent and melrose both together. Right now, I think North Carolina has done a great job with the guys they brought in. Remember, they missed the tournament last year. I mean, like, there's no obvious formula for success. I will say this, though. I am not accepting the idea of talent. I think you're right. Wait a second.
Starting point is 00:22:55 Hang on, let me finish. Let me finish. I think you're right in saying that's why we haven't won a national championship. But I don't care what anybody says. That team two years ago had more talent than St. Peters. He got out coached in that game. We had more talent. Now, did we have enough talent to win the title?
Starting point is 00:23:14 Maybe not. and Keon Brooks and Taitai Washington and Kell and Grady and Davy on Mints, that team should beat St. Peters. Last year, yeah, I know was that a good enough team to win the title? I don't know, but they did have the returning national player of the year. They did have Kason Wallace. They did win at Kansas, or excuse me, they did beat Tennessee by like 30. That team had more talent than Kansas State.
Starting point is 00:23:41 We got out play. And then this year, I know we didn't have physical. Biggs. I know we didn't have a great inside presence, but we had Rob Dillingham, Reed Shepard, and Antonio Reeves. We had enough talent to beat Jack Golky, who is, you tell me we can't beat Jack Golky? Matt, we scored enough points to win in all our games. But I, you don't think those guys we had are good enough defensively to guard Jack Gulke? Jack Gulke did a pretty good job on Rob Dillingham. says a lot about our players
Starting point is 00:24:18 hey one last thing no no no stop i'm not buying that it says about the players change the one thing that's consistent is coaching i'm tired of people throwing this on the players if it was one year not doing it on the players this is all firmly on cow but what i'm saying is on that the bottom line is
Starting point is 00:24:38 you have to go out there and do it yourself hey one thing i'm like i'm but if he can't get him to do it if he can't get him to do it, that's on him. That's on him. I totally agree. One last thing. I want to give it up to Reed Shepherd. I'm going to tell you why I'm going to give it up to Reed Shepherd.
Starting point is 00:24:55 Reed was great on the court. But behind the scenes, man, Reed is like the Piper. Reed kept this thing together. That whole thing, our fan base, you should see some of the things that I doubt DJ Wagner will come back. Because the only thing. I got to go a break. If they cut off Cal, they're going to have to cut off you two. When we come back, a football commitment.
Starting point is 00:25:15 We'll be right back. T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay. Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones. Welcome back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio. I got some breaking news quickly, Shannon. Running on.
Starting point is 00:25:34 Richard Petino will stay at New Mexico and removes himself as a candidate for Louisville. Turned down again. been turned down by Scott Drew, Dusty May, and now Richard Petino. And we'll see who else down the food chain they end up going for. We are now joined on the phone by Kentucky recruit, offensive lineman from Cincinnati, Ohio, Tucker Caddice. Tucker, how are you, sir? I'm doing good. How are you?
Starting point is 00:26:07 Doing great. So Tucker, you have been considering your, your, your, your, your, your, your, your, your, college decision. Tell us your finalist and then let everybody know where you will be going to college. I was choosing between a few schools, Kentucky, Missouri, Wisconsin, and a few others. But I'm becoming a wildcat. All right. There we go. There we go. Congratulations. Tucker picks Kentucky. What made you decide to become a cat? First of all, the coaches really wanted me there. I've been I've been talking to Coach Wolford since when he was Alabama. He's recruited me a lot.
Starting point is 00:26:48 I think he's one of the best offensive line coaches out there. I mean, the number of offensive alignment he has put out in the league is crazy. And then Coach Morrow, he offered me an eighth grade because he saw something in me. And ever since that, then we've been building a great relationship. Vince offered you an eighth grade? Yeah, eighth grade going to. Yes, sir. Wow, that's amazing.
Starting point is 00:27:12 Now, your brother has been on the UK team, so you've probably been around the team a lot. So what did you see over the years in those, in, you know, being around? Oh, it definitely feels like they have a concept of family going on there, you know. I walk through the locker and I were like, it was that baby cat? I was like, yeah, and they all dab me up and everything. I love, and then, I mean, the coaches love me too. The coaches really, you know, they put me as a priority. and they tell me that to my face
Starting point is 00:27:44 to say I'm a priority, which means a lot. You talked about Coach Wolfer, the offensive line coach. For people, you know, he was here and then he was in Alabama, now he's back. Tell people what he's like because I think a lot of fans
Starting point is 00:27:56 don't really know a ton about him. He's really intense. I mean, he knows what he's talking about. I mean, he's had a lot of experience in the SEC, so he knows what it takes to be a top-tier offensive linemen in the SEC. and you know he expects a lot for me but if you work if you work really hard i mean it pays off
Starting point is 00:28:17 so now you get the rest of the the your year to focus on football and and help recruit the class what are you are you looking to help find more guys to join you here oh yeah i'm already working on that with coach wolford oh okay do we have any we got any hints rind of who you're gonna who he's going to focus on who you got your sights on there Tucker A kid named Darren Stray out of Paw Paw, Michigan. He was down there. I was actually down at UK this past weekend. He was down there.
Starting point is 00:28:47 Sting, he's another priority. He's offensive tackle. Look at that. See? We got, we got Coach Wolfer. We got Vince. We got Tucker. We got all we need out there going to get offensive linemen.
Starting point is 00:28:56 Well, congratulations. I know you've been somebody who's been close to the program for a long time. I know everybody at UK is excited. And thank you. And congrats. And thanks for coming on the show. Thank you so much. There you go.
Starting point is 00:29:10 Tucker Caddus joining the Cats. Another commitment, Shannon, on the show. They keep picking Kentucky when they come on here. It's quite a streak we have going. Imagine that. And can you believe he was offered as an eighth grader? Like what? I've seen it.
Starting point is 00:29:26 I've seen Vince do it in person. I saw Vince offer a kid in this bar who he had just met five minutes before. My man has an eye for talent, no doubt about that. And with this one, his pedigree, his family, we already love his brother, who still has more years. I'd say the last name alone in eighth grade might have gotten him the offer, but he has the talent as well. So looking forward to seeing what's ahead for him.
Starting point is 00:29:47 I heard someone say about him on the staff that they think he has a lot, like he hasn't even filled out his frame yet. They think he's going to be a hoss when he gets in the weight training here. Well, his older brother as a true freshman at that first spring practice was hitting upperclassman and talking trash. So if he has even an ounce of the mean streak that Josh Cat has done, he made that huge catch against Louisville. Yes.
Starting point is 00:30:09 That was the catch that we lose the game if he doesn't make that third and long catch, which was as big a play as there was in that game. I'm a big fan of the Caddice family. His dad played at Ohio State, and they go to all the tailgates on there with the keys, and Josh is just an awesome, awesome kid, so I'm sure Tucker is the same. 859-280-2287. Who's up next shit? Ben.
Starting point is 00:30:35 Ben, how are you being? Yeah, Moly. Here we go. Is he really mowing the grass right now? It sounds like it. It's about that time of year. Yeah, get mine. I think I'm going to mow my grass.
Starting point is 00:30:49 I'm sorry, Ben. I appreciate the call. By the way, yes, I did do my best that entire interview. I didn't one time go Tucker. I didn't. I know everybody thought I was going to do that. I didn't do it one time. It was hard.
Starting point is 00:31:00 I had to hold it in. You've grown up right in front of our eyes. Who's up next? Casey. Casey, go ahead, Casey. Hey, good morning, fellas. I said Tucker like seven times. I couldn't do it.
Starting point is 00:31:10 I'm immature. I'm really sad we might not be able to vote or bet on a dang key touchdown next year, but I get it. You've got to protect these kids at all costs. But my thing, there was a call on the free show talking about their kids and love for UK basketball, and it really makes me sad for the children because kids under 11 do not really have any idea what we're divilments. They didn't wear, they haven't got to wear the true blue butt and all that stuff. They don't have that in them, and it makes me sad.
Starting point is 00:31:39 So can you give me a reason to be optimistic? We're going to have faith here. Listen, I will, here's my thing about it. It's going to, I don't think it's going to work, but I hope it does. I mean, if you want to have optimism, you would say this. The dude has had a lot of success here over the years, and I appreciate the call. And it's not like he forgot everything he knew. So it is in him to be successful, right?
Starting point is 00:32:08 It is in him to be successful. So now, knowing that, he just has to go and do it. Right. You know what I mean? He is a Hall of Fame coach for a reason. And I know deep down, he doesn't want his legacy to end like this. So I'm hoping that fire comes back. Like Seth Greenberg said, we need the old Calipari back and get us back to where we know we need to be.
Starting point is 00:32:31 He's a competitor. He doesn't want to keep losing like this. I mean, we were a national mockery for a few days. He doesn't want that. Nope. So on some level, he, I know, is going to try to make that not happen. I don't think anyone wants John Caliperi's legacy. He didn't like this.
Starting point is 00:32:49 Even the Kentucky fans who think it's time, they want to think fondly of him when they're looking back at it. They don't want the bad to outweigh the good because there was so much good in the beginning. But if we just keep having bad, that's going to be what people remember. So I think most people agree we want this to be as peaceful as possible whenever it happens. Yeah, 859-280-22-80. Let's see, what do I want to talk about? I'm just sitting here thinking, Shannon, looking to see what is really on my mind. And I realize it's clear-cut hero sports drink.
Starting point is 00:33:17 Is it? Clear-cut hero? Everybody's got different things that are on their mind. That's what's on my mind right now. It's clear-cut hero. And if you're interested in a sports drink and a hydration drink to help change the game, how about clear-cut hero? Let me tell you about it. You now have a thirsty-three variety pack.
Starting point is 00:33:33 Oh. If you're out mowing the grass, you've got three of them. 12, 16-out bottles. What if I told you could get Apex Fruit Punch. Cosmic Blue Raz and Dragon Fruit together. Dragon's my favorite. And then there's also a hydration hack variety pack. Tell me about it.
Starting point is 00:33:50 Nova Orange, Nexus Peach Mango, and Eclipse Lemon Lime all together. Wow. Variety packs, you can try a little bit of everything, do a little docee dough. Yeah, I like that. Every bottle's loaded with a cinch. Why are you laughing? You don't like docee dough. A little docee dough.
Starting point is 00:34:04 That's right. That was like an old country like Dan. It was a dance. Docee. Yeah. How's the song go? It was in a song. I heard myself singing the song the other day.
Starting point is 00:34:15 What was it? The Merle Haggard song? You got to stop letting me do that, Shannon, on the podcast. I think it's great. It weren't like. When the song is playing, it's fine. But the moment I'm acapella. Yes.
Starting point is 00:34:29 You got to stop letting me do that. You're always acapella in the podcast. That's what I'm saying. I heard it. Well, then don't sing. It's that easy. But I get worked up. Yeah, I know you do.
Starting point is 00:34:40 I also get worked up by the Variety Pack exclusively on Amazon from Clear Cut Hero. You can get it on Amazon. Try them. Get them sent to you. It's on Amazon. It's clear cut hero. We'll take a break. Very back, Skins.
Starting point is 00:34:53 I love that line. Yeah, here we go. Going all the way back to Patrick Patterson, nothing says commitment to Kentucky like Lee Ann Rice. Amen. The mistake I made with Patrick Patterson was leading into his segment with it. You got to do it afterwards. You got to do it after. because I don't think that's what he wanted it to be leading into was Lee Ann Rhimes.
Starting point is 00:35:16 You know what's crazy every time you talk about that? We almost had parades down Main Street when we got Patrick Patterson, and he was ranked like 16th or 17th in the class. It was the, that was May 2007. I bring this up quite a bit. By the way, before I do that, though, Commonwealth Causes, I want to tell you about their March bourbon giveaway. They were going to time this with the Sweet 16.
Starting point is 00:35:37 Yes. That didn't work out. Nevertheless, here is what they're giving away in their May-burbon auction, or March-Burban auction, which is tomorrow. Number one, you can win the Pappy Van Winkle Collection. 23, 20, 15, 13, 12, and 10-year bottles of Pappell. That's insane. That's got to be worth. Man, what's that worth in the Cubs shirt?
Starting point is 00:36:01 Seven-gillion dollars, probably, all six of those bottles. Then they have a six-bott-a-weller collection, an eight bottle Blanton collection, a fourth place of bottle of Rock Hill Farm, and fifth place a bottle of Elmer T. Lee. That's, I mean, you're talking a lot of money involved in this right now. I just think that's amazing that there is a bourbon called Elmer T. Lee. It's a good bourbon.
Starting point is 00:36:27 Have you had it? When I am lucky enough to get some. Elmer? Elmer's a great name that people just don't name their kids, Elmer anymore. You've met an Elmer recently? Not recently. No, it's been 40 years. Commonwealth Causes.org. Sale ends Thursday at 6.
Starting point is 00:36:44 The drawing is at 8. It's commonwealthcauses.org. And remember, proceeds, some of it go to NIL. Y. Gaming License 2761. Are you familiar with Blanton's? I heard of Blenton. Elmer T. Lee, I believe he's behind Blenton's. Okay.
Starting point is 00:36:59 So Elmer came up with the Blenton. I think. I know he was a distiller at Buffalo Trace. I'll give him credit for Blantz on the show. Check it, Lynn. Couple scheduling things. My trivia, the thing that, where I host and we're giving away $5,000 at the end of May right before I go on vacation, a qualifier is a week from tonight, next Wednesday night.
Starting point is 00:37:20 So get your team ready. Next Wednesday night. It'll be a week from tonight. And then the dollar wings all day and night today. But it's a week from tonight. And we're going to do another Taylor Swift trivia right before her new album comes out. And I am ready. I've already got my team.
Starting point is 00:37:37 That's like a month. from now. It comes out April 18th. So we're doing it like April 17th or something like that. So far I'm a team of one, but I'm ready to get to a transfer pool. I think you should do it. What do you think about, do you think in Louisville, we'll hire Bobby Huggins? No.
Starting point is 00:37:53 I don't think they'll hire him. I think it would be funny. Just hearing you say that's awesome. Well, you know, now they have this issue, so they're interested in the Indiana coach, or any estate coach, Josh Shirts. Yeah. Who, by the way, of all the names I've heard, that's the one I want. Louisville to hire the least because I think he's a really good coach. He won a national
Starting point is 00:38:14 championship at LMU. LMU, the only thing in Harrogate, Tennessee is gondolier in LMU, and he won a national championship there. Then he went to Indiana State. He gave him their best season since Larry Bird was playing there. So I think the dude's a pretty good coach and Louisville people are like, we need a big name. Well, now you're talking to Bob Huggins, so stop it. All right. To me, he's the guy would hire, but here's the thing. Louisville put all their chips in with Dusty May, so there's some talk that he signed a deal with St. Louis. And St. Louis had a source come out today and goes,
Starting point is 00:38:51 we expect him to honor the deal. So Louisville may be in a situation where they can't get a coach, and he goes to St. Louis, the Billicans. My thought was if he got the Louisville job, would Robbie Avala come with him? that would break my heart. Me too. If Cream Abdul-Jabbar was playing for Louisville next year, you can't.
Starting point is 00:39:11 I can. Yeah, I can't. No offense. Then he goes from being Cream Abdul-Jabbar to... Is that the new nickname? That's his name. We're going to get a... Cream Abdul...
Starting point is 00:39:22 Wall Street Journal. Update their story to your new nickname for him. I don't know if the Wall Street Journal will do a story on that. We can't let that happen, though. No, we can't let that happen. They need Bob Huggins. I mean, they need a coach with a proven history. He's had some time off to rest up for another good run.
Starting point is 00:39:40 I think that would be a remarkable hire. You know what my question, Shannon, was with the fact they were considering Richard Petino? Yeah. If you're going to consider Richard, why don't you just hire Rick? Yeah. Like, if you're willing to go down that lot, why don't you just get the guy that you know is good? Why are you going to, like, if you're willing to forget that his father sued you for $40 million. But do you take it out on Richard because of what is dead?
Starting point is 00:40:04 did though, you know? Yes, you do. You do. I mean, it's not, well, first of all, I say it's not Richard's fault. Richard worked on his staff a lot of the time. Yeah, he did. Yeah. But, like, you know, I mean, if you're going to go down that route, wouldn't you just go get the real thing?
Starting point is 00:40:21 Chris Mack's still out there. Why not? Why not just hire Chris Mack? Like, what do they care? I think it wouldn't be a little hard. Bobby Patrino, I mean. It would be a little hard to bring back the guy that's. sued you for 40 million.
Starting point is 00:40:35 Everything that happens with them is so hilarious to me. Made up death threats, signed deals with, I mean, Bob Huggins calling into a radio show saying, hire me. Extortions. I mean, the good thing about Louisville is they are at a place where literally like everyone, I mean, everyone who's in trouble is like, well, I probably could still get a job there. They don't care. They've had the FBI in their building.
Starting point is 00:41:00 Like, we worry about our internal problems, maybe not doing enough game plan. maybe not 100% in all aspects. They are just a constant mess with crime and God knows what else they're doing. I mean, Rudy Giuliani applaud. I mean, like Brian, like that. Brian, she did spit out. All right, who's next. Sheila.
Starting point is 00:41:21 Sheila. Sheila. Sheila. I'm Matt. Yes, ma'am. I've got a few things that I have not heard brought up on your show. Okay. If you all go back and watch.
Starting point is 00:41:36 when the team got off the bus at the SEC tournament and also at the NCAA tournament, those boys were scared to death. There was no joy, there was no excitement, they weren't talking to each other, they were just don't. Well, I mean, they did look like that.
Starting point is 00:42:00 I didn't notice that, Sheila, at the SEC tournament, but I did notice it at the NCAA. tournament and Drew and I were talking about it at the beginning of the game. They did. They did. With the exception of Reeves and Dillingham and Mitchell, I thought the rest of the guys did look scared at the NCAA tournament. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:42:21 And my second thing is Cal needs to quit acting like Donald Trump. Okay. We're not going to go political. We're not going to do that. You know, we're going to just focus on the Cal, but go ahead. Well, he needs to get back to the old cow. You know, right now, you're a victim of this if you don't do what he wants as he wants, when he wants, how he wants. He wants nothing to do with you.
Starting point is 00:42:50 You can't be that way. I agree. I agree with that. You can't. You know, I, so I appreciate the call. It's nice to hear from you, Sheila. You will never be able, if you get to the point that you won't listen to anyone, you will go in a bad direction.
Starting point is 00:43:11 And if you get to the point where you run off the people that have your best interest at heart, but disagree with you, that's when you get in trouble. I mean, Cal is right in saying that there are people who just are haters of him. but he has gotten the point in recent years that he thinks if you disagree with him on anything you're a hater now and when you get to that point you're going too far i could name you and i won't because i don't want to put them on the spot but i could name you 10 people that have that love cow and that would tomorrow if cow needed them drive wherever they are and come here and be for them but they all got to the point that they just couldn't do that they just couldn't
Starting point is 00:43:56 deal with it anymore. That's when you got to look in the mirror. And so the bottom line, I started this going, I don't know if this will work. I'll end it with this. The success of next year is going to be Cal knows how to coach. Cow knows how to run a program. The success next year is going to be him looking in the mirror and saying, have I gotten off track?
Starting point is 00:44:17 How do I get back to where we are? And who do I surround myself with to help me make that happen? If he does that, it can. work. If he doesn't, it will not work, and we're headed for another year like last. That's really what it comes down to. Thank you all very much for listening.
Starting point is 00:44:36 We will see you tomorrow. It's KS. Another podcast from some SNL, late night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day
Starting point is 00:44:52 and head writer, Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the I-heart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
