Welcome back, Tucky Sports Radio, hour number two. Come on out and have lunch with. It's a beautiful day.
Starting point is 00:02:55 We have, we got wings, we got sliders, we got Drew Franklin. It's all there. It's everything you want. Got some guys from Shelbyville, got Paul, who's ready for the Reds and the Bengals. Did you hear, did you say Joe Burroughs clear now? Is that right? It's a good thing. The games don't, darn, they're not now, though.
Starting point is 00:03:13 It's okay. But like if they were, he could play. Are you going to watch the UFL? I think that starts this weekend. Does it start this weekend? I don't know what I'm talking about. I'm looking for anything to watch. No, it's going to be a big weekend.
Starting point is 00:03:25 You got baseball, you got Sweet 16, the Elite 8. You're going to watch the Sweet 16 in the Elite 8? I was surprised how much I really enjoyed watching basketball. I was too. That's exactly how I was. I didn't think I'd watch any of it, and I ended up watching a lot of it. And enjoyed it. I enjoyed the games, so I'm going to definitely try to check them out all weekend.
Starting point is 00:03:45 Shannon, you're going to watch the games? Oh, yeah. I've been following the entire tournament. It's my favorite thing all year when it comes to sports, so, I mean, it sucks Kentucky loss, but I'm still going to enjoy the tournament. Last couple years I've quit. Me too. But this year, for whatever reason, I've done it,
Starting point is 00:03:59 and, you know, one of the things you can do it with is, draft kings that's right march mania see they make you say mania can't say the other word if you say the other word literally you are arrested someone will walk into the bar and arrest you drag you out i don't know how they get the nca gets the police to come and take but literally if i say it they're hauling you're out of they're waiting i'll go march matt ooh then tranquilizer dart you can say march matt you can say that all right let's do that march matt hey college hoop fans march matt is here. But thrill and you get in action with Draft King's Sportsbook.
Starting point is 00:04:34 One of America's highest rated sportsbook apps, $5 into $150 instantly, celebrate college basketball's most frenzied time. March Matt is here for you, and Draft Kings is ready to go. We're going to pick the games here in just a second. Go use my promo code KSR, $50 in bonus bets, or $150 in bonus bets with Draftings. If you have a gambling problem called 180-100-gamer 18 plus, physically present Kentucky, bonus bet inspired 168 hours after issuance, eligibility, deposit, restrictions. supply in terms of sportsbook.draftkings.com slash B-ball.
Starting point is 00:05:03 Let's do our picks for tonight. You ready? I'll give you. Okay. I'll give you. All I want's the winner. Just the winner. What is the winner? Clemson, Arizona.
Starting point is 00:05:10 Who you got? Arizona. Arizona. Shannon. I picked Arizona to win it all in my bracket. I'm going Arizona. Arizona it is. Yukon San Diego State.
Starting point is 00:05:20 Yukon's my pick and my bracket to win it all. I got Yukon as well. I think Yukon kills him, even though it's a rematch of last year. Shannon. I think it'll be closed, but I'm going to go Yukon. What is the spread on that? 11 and a half. Oh, it's a lot.
Starting point is 00:05:33 North Carolina, Alabama. That's a game of the night. I think that'll be a fun wouldn't watch. I'm taking Carolina. What do you got, Chabin? I guess I'll go North Carolina, but I wouldn't be surprised if Alabama upsets with them. I'm going North Carolina.
Starting point is 00:05:48 Didn't Alabama just struggle with, who was it? Grand Canyon. Is that who it was? Yes. Yeah, I'm going North Carolina. I bet Alabama plus five already, but just picking winners, I'll go Carolina. I think it's going to be a great game.
Starting point is 00:05:59 I think it would be close. I was sitting there going, Heads Carolina, Tails Alabama, and I went, Hence Carolina. You're real proud of yourself, aren't you? I was, and I looked at Drew directly in his eyes, and he didn't get it, and it made me sad because I thought, I'm with you, Shannon.
Starting point is 00:06:15 I thought it was very, very impressive, and he didn't like it. The KSR Bracket Challenge, our leader. Now, remember, this is to get to host this show. First of all, it's also to get all the prizes. Yeah. But it's to host the show. The leader is WC. Jewel 53.
Starting point is 00:06:33 But here's the thing. W.C. Jewel 53 is the leader, but it's temporary. He has Kentucky to win. So he's not going to win. So that means we have a three-way tie right now for first amongst people that I think actually can win. Okay. CD-O-1, who by the way, CD-O-1 has been towards the top the entire weekend. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:54 Then you have Travis 15. Okay. And then Allie KC 24, all of those people have 13 of their 16 final of the Sweet 16 teams left. Do they have the same person winning, same team winning? They all have Yukon winning. They do. So it's going to be some of the secondary games that will matter. Tan Morgan, if you're out there, Tan Morgan, you have Purdue winning.
Starting point is 00:07:20 If Purdue wins, I think we're going to be seen Tan Morgan cut down the nets. Okay. And then Nicholas Great House. What a great house. He has Houston winning, and I think if they win, you'll see him cut down the nets. And then I'll also note, old John Snediger. Oh, John Sneddiger. John Sneddiger has Iowa State winning, and I think if they were to win, he'd win.
Starting point is 00:07:40 So there's still a battle. We've got to pick that game, too. We didn't do Iowa State, Illinois. I'm just getting everybody excited. I also want to give a shout out to get to the choppa. Get to the Chapa has North Carolina winning. So if they find a way to get, if Carolina wins, he will be getting to his choppa. and coming and hosting this show.
Starting point is 00:07:59 That's who I want to win, just so you have to say that on the air. Get to the chopper hosting KSR. Illinois, Iowa State is the smallest spread. Who you got, Shannon? I think I'm going to go with Iowa State on this one. I'm going Iowa State. I like it. This is my two picks of the night is the North Carolina Iowa State Parlay.
Starting point is 00:08:17 I like those two, but go ahead. I don't even know who's favored, but I think I'm, after watching Illinois, I'm going to pick Illinois. Illinois is the underdog, so you could get some of the thing there. Go ahead. I have Iowa State in my national championship game, so I will take them here to cover. All right, there you go. Iowa State.
Starting point is 00:08:33 A lot of stuff going on tonight. So everybody's going to watch the games? Yeah. Probably not. Oh. You're not going to watch the games? I'm still, I'm not like you all. I kept up.
Starting point is 00:08:43 I know the bracket. I watched the scores. Just seeing the logos on the court made me change the channel. Yeah, I'm watching them. I'm watching. I get it, though. I know where you're coming from. A lot of people are saying you're right, Shannon, or excuse me, Ryan, about.
Starting point is 00:08:56 your scoop, but I'll also note Rodney Woods is from Lonejack in Bell County. That's where he grew up. You're right. He is a Bell County native. How do you know that? How do you know he grew up in Lonejack? There's a connection. His daughter is married to Russ Thompson that lives in Pineville, and his daughter,
Starting point is 00:09:14 their son is Sawyer, who played with Josiah, so I've known the Woods family. Do you keep up with that, Shannon? Do you have the three? I feel like Ryan knows everybody. Rodney Woods, from Lone Jack's daughters, married to Russell Thompson, whose son, played with Josiah. That's it. He'll eat at the restaurant.
Starting point is 00:09:29 You followed it. You followed the whole story. It was a great story. All right. Who's next? Brad. Brad. Go ahead, Brad.
Starting point is 00:09:35 Hey, Matt. How are you? Good. Good. I'm going to ask one question about cow. Okay. If there wasn't a $33 million buyout, would he be here today? That's a good question.
Starting point is 00:09:56 I'm going to say. If it was a zero, if it was zero, if it was zero, into contract. I'm going to say no, he would. I don't think you would. No. I think the money was there. I think the money was there to do it, but I do think that was ultimately the factor.
Starting point is 00:10:13 And I think it was there if they wanted to, but it was probably like, you know, they say in baseball, tie goes to the runner. Ty probably goes to the money. So all of this talk that we've got, will he improve with his staff? Will he do this? Well, he is pointless. because we really don't want him as coach. Well, I wouldn't say wait.
Starting point is 00:10:34 I mean, I wouldn't say wait, because there are people that do. I mean, I think there's a lot of people. I think what's interesting to me is, and I appreciate the call. That's not a bad point. Here's what is interesting to me. So when I did the poll before Mitch's decision was made, it was 85% of the listeners of this show wanted to change. Then once it looked like it was going to be Cal, that number went to 70.
Starting point is 00:11:00 It would be interesting to see what it would be today because I think that number is going to now be more like 50-50 because people just naturally once it's going to happen, they say they might as well. You know, there's a phenomenon. It doesn't happen so much in the Trump-Biden era, but they'd studied this when I was in college. After the election, they would ask people who they voted for and people would disproportionately say they voted for the winter. Now, that doesn't happen as much now because we're so polarized. But I do think, I bet if I did that, that poll now, it would be even, or maybe even more people saying they wanted Cal. I mean, we saw it on KSR, the Facebook. KSR Facebook did a poll, do you want Cal to be coach before the decision was made? And it was like 60, 40, no.
Starting point is 00:11:47 And then they did it after, and it was 55, 45, yes, which just kind of goes to show. People sort of tend to change their mind once the decision is made. I've seen a lot of people on Twitter, too, like, all right, he's back. all these people that turned on them, where are you now? I'm like, I can still see your tweet from Friday where you said it's time to move on. Like, you didn't even delete it. It's just, it's on your timeline. Those people who say, well, if you wanted Cal God, you weren't a true UK fan, just shut up.
Starting point is 00:12:14 I mean, that's an ignorant statement. I never said that. Like, I never wanted tubby fired, but there were people that did, and I didn't think they weren't fans. You know, like that's, if your fandom is related only to a, a person, that is a cult. Your fandom is related to the team. That is different. Now, with that said, starting today, or starting actually two days ago when they announced
Starting point is 00:12:44 it, I want him to succeed and I want him to win every game because it would be good for the program, which is what we all care about. That's the bottom line. Yes, they want to win games, win tournaments, win championships, and so when the season starts, we'll all be excited, we'll all be on board, and we want. him to succeed. We want the team to succeed. Who's up next, Shannon? Let's go to David. David. How are you, David? Good morning, gentlemen. Matt, my mom also got her bachelors at around age 60s, so that's so awesome. My mom has her bachelors and also had a legal degree, but she went to
Starting point is 00:13:20 seminary. But yes, also cool to your mom for continuing to do that. Yeah, thank you. Hey, if you're fortunate to get John Legend in studio, you know, for an interview. Be sure he brings his wife, Chrissy Teigen. No, we're not letting Ryan anywhere near that. That's what I was going to say. To bring back a cold COVID term, you'd probably have to reinvent social distancing with Ryan. Ryan is not allowed in the same room as John Legends anything. So with the decision, I really just think it's prolonging the inevitable.
Starting point is 00:13:57 with last night's little love fest between the two, do you still feel confident that, you know, of the program changes and coaching or assistant coaching changes that you guys You know, I, uh, yes, I do think there will be, uh, I do think there will be changes. Um, I appreciate the call. I did have someone close to the program called me last night and go, Matt,
Starting point is 00:14:21 maybe there's been some movement on that that maybe Cal had talked to me. into not making all of the changes that we assumed. I think we'll have to see how that plays out over the next few days. But yes, I think they'll definitely still be at least one, if not two or three changes. But Cal may have saved the gig for one or two people. And if that happened, those people sure owe Cal a lot, I would say, if he was able to do that. whoever's back. I hope that they, whether they've changed who's in the seat, everyone needs to do a better job of making Kentucky look like they're ready for a basketball game. Listen, I know I'm behind on this, Shannon. So I granted, I think you all might have even talked about this a couple months ago and I asked you to wait because I hadn't seen it.
Starting point is 00:15:11 What's up? Last night I finished that show and again, I'm behind. This is like two months old. I finished that show American Nightmare. Oh. You've seen that show? Yes. Yes. Have you seen that, Paul? Yeah, it's about this, like, dude and his girlfriend and then his girlfriend was kidnapped. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And they thought his girlfriend made it up.
Starting point is 00:15:32 And they, like, accused her being like the gone girl thing. Yeah. Dude, that's a crazy show, Shannon. You've seen that? Yes, I have. Yeah, we didn't talk about it on here. We talked about it on the pre-show. But, yeah, it is a crazy story.
Starting point is 00:15:43 And it just gets more unbelievable as the story unfolds. I know the story you're talking about, but I've not seen it. Have you seen it? All right. So I won't spoil it for you, Ryan. But it's a wild show. like in the way they do it like it keeps you on the edge of your seat you don't know what's going to happen and then the first you think this person what's clear though is the police and is it Vallejo
Starting point is 00:16:03 California they don't look good no they don't look like the police the police in Vallejo they don't look like the police you want to have in in your whole town you don't you don't want it I will I'll say that don't you agree Shannon yeah they jump to a lot of conclusions yeah I remember thinking it's been a while since I've seen it. The details are a little fuzzy, but I remember thinking, I hope they continue to look into this because it kind of ended with, there might be more there. Don't let just,
Starting point is 00:16:32 yeah. Like one random cop just decided to investigate, and she's the one that found it all. Yeah. And if she hadn't decided to pick it up. If she hadn't decided to investigate, it'd just been, I remember when that happened. I mean, I remember the whole old gone girl in real life. I remember that.
Starting point is 00:16:46 I didn't know how it did. See, that's the problem. I remember the story, but I don't remember the conclusion. So like you I remember going well that girl faked her kidnapping, right? But then I never really heard what the ending was, which goes to show sometimes the initial part stays with you, but the facts don't always don't always do it. So anyway, you ought to watch that. We'll take a break.
Starting point is 00:17:11 Barry back here at KS. Barr's Kentucky Sports Radio. Welcome back, Tegi Sports Radio. By the way, we're here at KSbar today. We will also be here tomorrow during the show. It'll be the last show for Ryan and Shannon. on their romantic vacation for spring break. So you can see us here tomorrow, a rare Friday in the bar. Normally we're out and about somewhere, so we will be here tomorrow.
Starting point is 00:17:37 And the next week, it's just me and Drew. And I have a little thing I'm going to do next week for people who watch the show with just me and Drew. I might have a little bonus for people. It's a Matt Jones. It's the Matt Jones. We lost its final four weeks. cheer-up spectacular March Madness March Madness that's exactly right. U of L hired a coach he seems to be a crazy person so I I like that he seems to be
Starting point is 00:18:09 insane every video I see of him is him yelling or screaming or dancing or playing a boombox he he he's kid he's the kid that remember I told you the kid would scream and dance on the sidelines. That's his kid. That's his kid. I think he's going to add a lot of juice to the rivalry, Drew, because looking at the videos, he seems to be inside. But the man definitely doesn't lack energy or passion.
Starting point is 00:18:40 Basketball, who knows? I think he's a Chris Mack disciple. I think that's a little funny. How about that? How about they're like, you know what? Chris Mack didn't work out. Let's go hire his assistant. That'll work.
Starting point is 00:18:51 I mean, listen, I actually think he's a good coach. but I can't believe they hired a Chris Mack assistant. But from a personality standpoint, he seems to have a lot of energy in that. He also was an assistant for Dino Gaudio. Who you will remember is accused of extorting Rick Petino. That's why I couldn't believe an assistant coach for both Chris Mack and Dino Gadio. Can they not get away from that whole thing? Like, I mean, they went, they're like, you know what?
Starting point is 00:19:17 All right, who all you coach with? Chris Mack? Oh, check. Check. Dino Gaudio. Oh, yeah, that's the guy who we tried to send to federal prison for extorting our coach. Yeah, that's a good reference. Check.
Starting point is 00:19:30 Check. We're also going to find out that, like, he took Katina Powell to Homecoming. They were way down that list. I'm sure someone's written the names down to see exactly how far down the list it got. But when Patino and Bob Huggins are mentioned, you know you're pretty far down the list. Well, he got turned down by Scott Drew, Dusty May, John. shirts and then he was he was next I just hope he's the guy that we we need somebody we don't like you know I think we're gonna be easy not too good if
Starting point is 00:20:03 you just look at him I think he's gonna be a very I think part of our fan base including myself felt sorry for Kenny wasn't doing well but we want this guy to come in and lose yeah no I like it I think by the way he'll be an improvement he'll probably do fine whether he does excellent I think remains to be seen but Drew, I think he'll be, he certainly will be an improvement. Yeah, he's never been anywhere like Louisville, but he's been a good coach everywhere he's been and his turn programs around most recently,
Starting point is 00:20:31 Charleston, so we'll see how it turns out. Did you read this? I think he's a good hire for the robbery. Chan, did the story about what he did at UMass. I love this story. Yeah, what happened? So I guess he was at, like, UNC Wilmington, and then he took the job at UMass,
Starting point is 00:20:43 and they were like about to have a press conference. They had a press conference set up, and then 30 minutes before the press conference, he just left and said, I don't want to do that. Oh, yeah, I did hear that. I did hear that. Yeah, yeah. You think that all happened today?
Starting point is 00:20:55 Yeah, that's true. He's not been announced. Yeah, it's not official yet. 330s. Like, you know what, guys, I'm out. He had a $1 million buyout if he left UMass within two years, and he left 45 minutes before the thing started. Was it actually true or was it just Scuddle Bud that were they considering Scotty Davenport at one point? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:21:16 I mean, Richard Petino got brought up. I don't know why they don't. hire Scotty Davenport. At least they'd play correctly. Yeah. You know, but good luck to, I do like the video of him like hanging on the rim because clearly Shannon, someone had to pick him up to pretty much out. Oh yeah. Oh yeah. That guy didn't jump up there on his own. Like, so literally they were like, hey, coach, we'll pick you up and you can shake on the rim. Yeah. There's some little brother energy there for little brother. Climb this ladder. We'll remove the ladder. He definitely has little brother energy. That's exactly right. Who's next? Matt from Richmond.
Starting point is 00:21:51 Matt, go ahead, Matt. 859, 2807. Hey, guys, it's been a while. I just needed to get a few things off my chest. Matt, I think you nailed it in your postgame thoughts about Cal. Spot on. Thank you. We needed to change.
Starting point is 00:22:08 I'm an angry as Drew is. I've been a long-time fan, and Cal was great at the One of Dunn era when it came in. You know, we hired him in to usher in the One-A-Dunnera. he was the captain of it and he killed it. But that was 15 years ago. We need a coach who can lead us in the new NIL area. I don't know who that coach is, but it can't be a cow.
Starting point is 00:22:36 Well, now that it is, now that it is, what's your view today? Now that you know, like, he's going to be the coach. Let me, can I caveat back to that? Of course. I know. Sorry. I'm sorry. I just had something to play now. He has alienated the fan base. He's taking away things like camp out, distance itself from the fans, and has delivered nothing on the court for four years. That's not been downright embarrassing to where all the other fan bases are making fun of us. I can't keep investing, like emotionally investing myself into this program with him at the helm. Last year, I said, we'll see what he does this year because he was keeping doing the same things, alienating the fan base. making fun of us when we try to call him to criticize him because he needed criticized and he had a monster recruiting class comes in and a lot of me and it was a lot of my friends and family were saying let's see what this year gets us and you see what this year got us
Starting point is 00:23:33 yeah i don't mean to cut you off i might have to go to a hard break but we go ahead and finish your thought okay but the fact that you didn't even stayed to watch that you stayed to watch this year and and what didn't walk out against oakland is that you're already there too he's lost the fence that's why it's time to lose him i know he's coming back, but I can't emotionally invest myself again another year. I hope I'm wrong, but it doesn't look good, and I just, I can't do it. I can't get back
Starting point is 00:23:58 into it another year. Well, I appreciate to call. You know, it is interesting. I mean, I go back to the fact that I state, that I did stay in the arena, and I'm not trying to use myself as the, as the example, but I have not been able to stay in the arena for close tournament games in a decade, but I
Starting point is 00:24:14 sit there and watched all that one, not because I thought they'd lose, but because I just kind of was resigned to whatever happened. And, you know, that was odd to me that I did that. Because a few times I was like, I'm leaving. And then I sat there. And I think when they got that final play that led to the corner three,
Starting point is 00:24:36 I remember I just kind of looked at Drew like, well, there we go. Remember, I was different all day too. Usually I'm looking past first round opponent. You were weird that day. You were weird. I texted everyone in my phone. We're going to win, right? I called hubby in the afternoon. I was like something's weird with Drew.
Starting point is 00:24:51 We might have to take him to the hospital. It didn't feel right. It was like you were, well, you were like, it was like you knew we were going to lose. Set on pregame, something's off. Yeah. Well, oh well, what are you going to do? 859-280, 2287.
Starting point is 00:25:07 We're here at KSbar. We'll take a break. Be right back. Seagy Sports Radio. T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J., he'll make them pay. Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio, presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Starting point is 00:25:20 Here's Matt Jones. Hey, yeah, it is Kentucky Sports Radio. This segment is sponsored by Don Franklin's family dealerships. Steer your way over to Don Franklin Auto.com. Starting point is 00:25:41 Shannon is in Louisville, Matt, Ryan, and Drew. Guys, the bread's opening day starts today. The breads. The breads are good. White wheat. We've got a good lineup this year. The reds are the reds start today. I'm very excited.
Starting point is 00:26:01 Most excited I've been about a red season since I've followed them, which granted has only been like eight years. But turkey hunters here, we've been to opening day. How many years ago you think we've been going to this? This will be the second. Wow. It really go back a long time. I've been a little longer than you, I guess.
Starting point is 00:26:22 What are you talking about? Did you not used to go when we went back in the day? This is, what is this second? Well, what a tradition. Rent your favorite opening days with Jason. Well, that was last year. Last year. Okay, so I guess it's mostly me, tall, and hubby.
Starting point is 00:26:39 I guess is who's been going. But it's nice. This will be my second. Okay. So anyway, I'm excited. The Reds got a great team. Now, they got a couple guys hurt. Matt McLean will be out for a little while.
Starting point is 00:26:54 We had to do PEDs. That happens sometimes. Sometimes you've got to get suspended for 80 games for PEDs. I had the same issue on ESPN Sunday morning show for a while. I was out. So it happens. But the rest of the team's good. You know, you got Ellie De La Cruz.
Starting point is 00:27:10 Obviously, we got a good pitching staff. They signed a guy named Frankie. Who's pitching today? I like guys named Frankie. Is the 6th dude Lobb Lolly? Is he back? His name is not Loblo. It's Nick Ladolo.
Starting point is 00:27:22 Ladolo. He is still rehabbing. Still. But he's going to be back. I mean, he can pitch now, but they're kind of letting him, you know, get in. Because they got Frankie. Got Frankie. They got Frankie, Hunter Green, some dude named Nick Martinez, who I don't know who that is, but he's on there.
Starting point is 00:27:37 Andrew Abbott, who looks like the bad guy from Breaking Bad. He's on the team. And you got lots of guys. Good thing they kept Jonathan in India? Yes, it is. But the key story is Ellie learned to speak English. Did you see that video?
Starting point is 00:27:52 Loved it. How can you not love that guy? Yeah. He was like, I want fans to connect to me, so I learned to speak English. Yep. And I just thought that was the neatest video. Me too. Like, if he's good this year, he could be like the face of baseball, don't you think?
Starting point is 00:28:08 I mean, I know I'm biased because I'm a Reds fan, but like, isn't he such a likable dude? Very likable guy. And I saw what was the story, like he spent all the offseason learning, perfecting his English so he could do this when the season started. I feel sorry for his translator. I like that little dorky guy. He would always be on all the interviews, and I guess he's got to do something else now.
Starting point is 00:28:28 Otani's looking for a new translator. Otani has no interest in learning how to speak English. That's true. I'm not a big Reds fan. I mean, I'll cheer for him, but I thought the Ellie thing was very cool. Because you could tell how serious he was. He even said, I owe it to the fans.
Starting point is 00:28:46 to communicate with them, and I want to be able to hear what they're sent back. And you can tell you just had a real commitment. I mean, that's a guy with a lot of money who's a superstar new to it. He could have done what he wanted off season. But he made, you know, learned an English priority. And I thought that press conference is pretty awesome. He signed with Jordan Brands. So, like, he might be the Jordan face in baseball.
Starting point is 00:29:06 Shannon, I know you're not a reds fan. Do you like Ellie? Oh, yeah, yeah. I mean, it was cool that he hit for the cycle when I was at the game, even though I was a Braves fan. I sold my tickets to you. gave my tickets to you and you got to see the cycle. That's right.
Starting point is 00:29:18 So, I mean, I think he's right up there with Otani as the best player in the game. Well, Ronald Acuna, what did you say? He's not there yet. I mean, I think, you know, top five. Yeah, he's the most exciting. He's not the best yet, but he's the most exciting. But we got all kinds of guys. You got Spencer Steer.
Starting point is 00:29:39 The key question is, who am I going to hate this year? You know, every year I have at least one player that I hate. I was kind of looking at the lineup. The problem is I know all the go. Usually when I look at the opening day lineup, there's like 15 dudes I've never heard of, and I know that's a bad sign. This year, only one pitcher named Buck.
Starting point is 00:29:55 Last year we had two. I knew that was a bad sign. So I feel like we're in good shape. Who replaces Joey Votto? Anyone. I don't mean to be mean, but like, you're right. He was hitting like 195, and everybody'd go, oh, man, I love Joey.
Starting point is 00:30:12 Well, you know, I mean, he was great 10 years ago. Like, can we not? No way's picked him up either. No, he's on Toronto. Oh, Toronto picked him up. Did he make the opening day roster? Don't. I don't know if he did.
Starting point is 00:30:26 Yeah. He's got to climb his way back. Okay. I just like this joy you have because we saw this last year. And then in May, it's like burn the building down. Worst team to ever have a baseball bat. You know, it's like. But then I was back.
Starting point is 00:30:39 Then I came back. Well, you know, Target, Hunter, I have. a long history of going to these opening days. I really thought you've been going longer than that. Who's next? Gerson. Gerson. Go ahead, Gershyn.
Starting point is 00:30:56 Morning, Matt. What's going on? I got so much built up that I want to say I know I can't get it all in, so I'll just go to you have to cut me off. Okay. I'll give you, I'll tell you what. Gersen, you've called before. I'll give you a minute and then I'll cut you off.
Starting point is 00:31:12 Just rock gership. Okay. That's not a quick start. Whoever voted Cal in as coach into the hall of fame evidently don't know basketball. He's not a coach. He's the best recruiter probably that's ever been in the game. But he cannot coach basketball.
Starting point is 00:31:38 He can't defend anything. He don't play defense. He don't know how to play defense. But one thing I'd like to ask you, what would be your advice to him going forward? Well, I mean, I'm not qualified to give him basketball advice. I mean, I think he improved the offense quite a bit. My biggest piece of advice was he needs to calm down. I think he gets the players tense with all his screaming and just going nuts.
Starting point is 00:32:10 I think he was better about that this year. but he was, you know, he looked like on Thursday, he looked like he was about to explode the entire game. And there's no way the players don't feel that. I think he's got, I think they're, to be quite frank with you, I think they're terrible at PR over there. I mean, they're just terrible at it. And for some people, it doesn't matter because, like, they love Cal.
Starting point is 00:32:39 So they're going to say it doesn't matter. But, you know, in a presidential race, 90% of the people have made up their mind. You're doing everything for 10% of the population, right? So in the cow thing, like, 80 to 90% of fan base made up their mind. But that other 10 to 20 is pretty big, Ryan. Yes, it is. And how you treat them and how you talk to them, it matters. And I just think they've done a terrible job of that.
Starting point is 00:33:03 So if I were cow and I wanted him to succeed, I'd say clean house, all right? Clean house. get rid of all the negative influences that have been difficult, or maybe not even negative, but just people who haven't been helpful and get people who want to make you succeed and then bring some people over who disagree with you. And I appreciate the call.
Starting point is 00:33:24 There was a Supreme Court justice named Scalia, maybe the most important conservative justice of all time. Every term, Ryan, he hired one liberal. And why did he do that? is he said, I want someone in here who challenges my thinking. And so every term, he'd go try to find the best liberal clerk he could find and bring him on. See, to me, that's intelligence, right? Bringing somebody on who's like, I want to be the best.
Starting point is 00:33:53 So you challenge me. Cal needs that, Drew, in my opinion. He needs somebody who will tell him, you are wrong, and then listen to them. Yeah, and he needs someone, whether young, old, but someone that is just obsessed with basketball. I think there's a lot of guys that like being basketball coaches, but he needs someone that loves coaching. Like, you know, John Robic was not a perfect person. But you saw when he got in that room and locked the door and turned on game tape,
Starting point is 00:34:16 that's what he loved. And he thrived in that role. And I think Cal needs someone on his staff who doesn't need all the other stuff. Leave me alone. But when the game comes around, I'm going to have a great game plan. And I will have scouted the other team perfectly. And I'm willing to work all hours that it takes to get that done right. One of the things I like about watching Shannon playing his.
Starting point is 00:34:35 band is like when i was sitting there watching you at tin roof in Nashville shan and i just always have a big smile on my face watching because you look like so perfectly happy while you're doing it doesn't you oh absolutely you just look you look so happy while you are singing it's fine that it makes me happy yeah that's how robic was breaking down game film it wasn't work my man just was like i love this he needs somebody like that yeah he needs people people like that who it's not a job. It's not like stressful. It's what they love.
Starting point is 00:35:10 And that's what I would encourage him to go fine. And I think it's no coincidence that he had those guys when we were being successful. Last couple of years, I think those guys have been missing from the staff and we see the ones happen. By the way, we're going to book Shannon here at the KS Bar and Grill in the spring. We're going to have Shannon play his first. Yes, whether you know or not. That's news to me. Alice Bluegown is going to play here.
Starting point is 00:35:37 We've already decided. We voted. We voted. The three of us voted. Shannon, you have to play. Sorry, whether you want to or not. Okay. You will play here, and we're going to get to the KS bar crowd.
Starting point is 00:35:46 We'll get to see Shannon do his thing. Let's do it. Let's rock. I'm ready. That's news to me, but we'll make it happen. Yeah, we'll figure out the logistics later. We'll talk about. We'll move the tables and have like a big thing here, and it'll be Shannon rocking the house.
Starting point is 00:35:59 I was looking at fog machines on Amazon. I think I'll get a fog machine. Well, we've already got one. We've got two. Oh, good. Are you a fog machine? Yeah, yeah. Y-O-FM.
Starting point is 00:36:09 Yes. Yeah. What? You've got a fog machine. You've got a fog machine. You won't even be able to see us. All right, so fog machines check. We're good.
Starting point is 00:36:18 Now, do we have working electrical outlets? Speakers. Yeah, that might help. PA system. We don't have one of those. Cornbread. Hemp.com. Here's how I know I like cornbread.
Starting point is 00:36:25 How you know? I ran out. Last night didn't sleep as well. Oh, there you go. You got to get cornbreadthympt.com. promo code KSR. Full Spectum. spectrum. Full rectum flower only hemp CDD gummies.
Starting point is 00:36:38 It's cornbread hemp.com. I don't know if I want that. Two more days for my grass is blue t-shirt. The promo code is March. Cornbread hemp.com slash KSR promo code March. Go get your cornbread hemp gummies. They're very good. We'll take a break.
Starting point is 00:36:56 Be right back. Those of you tell me Ellie Dela Cruz is not the face of baseball, you are wrong. You see that picture they just tweeted out, the reds of Dela Cruz? He was walking in, camo pants, got like a jacket on, no shirt underneath. He has no shirt? Red sunglasses. Dude, we're going to win a hundred. And like two gold necklaces.
Starting point is 00:37:15 That's my guy. I'll bet on that guy. Oh, look at that guy. I'll bet on that guy. Dude, look at that guy right there. You want to mess with that guy right there? No, I do not. And tied-dye shoes.
Starting point is 00:37:24 By the way, this is what I wore into the show today. We'll take a break. Be right back. Kentucky Sports Radio. Ellie della Cruz, Ellie Delacruz. Cincinnati Phenum, have you heard the news? Fastest man alive, shorts up six foot five. This red he cannot lose.
Starting point is 00:37:45 Ellie Delacruz. Hits the ball really, really, really, really hard. I'm thinking you probably want to have his rookie card. Find a 52 manel, and you won't sing the blues, or a 20-23 Ellie Delacruz. A cycle in just his 15th game is what he gave us. Last cycle for the resonator. 89 was Eric Davis. They both wear 44. I'm not sure who you choose.
Starting point is 00:38:12 Davis, he was great, but I'd take Ellie Delacruz. Ellie Delacruz. Ellie, Delacruz. On a routine grounder, better you don't snooze. Hill up run the Cheetah in the Cincinnati Zoo. Have you heard the news? Ellie Delacruz, Ellie De La Cruz, Ellie Dele Cruz, Ellie Dele Cruz. Dominican Republic is where he paid his dues. The Reds Day are on fire, and Ellie is the fuse. Have you heard the news? Ellie De La Cruz.
Starting point is 00:38:44 How great is that song? I've never heard that. That's the best song that's ever existed. And it'll get in your ear, and I'm telling you, when he gets up to hit today, you're going to go, Ellie De La Cruz, Ellie De La Cruz. Wow. I like that one verse where he just goes, really, really, really, really hard. He just decided you
Starting point is 00:39:04 and just add more realies because I don't know what else to say. That's right. Yeah. Sometimes you just get fill in the blanks. Sometimes you just got to do it. It's a good song. I've never heard that. It was something. And we can put that in the podcast. Oh, okay. Because it's a podcast song. So that might be the only music that's been in the podcast
Starting point is 00:39:20 for two months is that song. And thank you. You're welcome podcast listeners that you were able to hear that. I think they should play at the stadium. It's that good. I do too. They should play at the stadium. They can't replace Cincinnati, Ohio. with that. I would say, listen, I love Cincinnati, Ohio, but if they replaced it with that, I'd be okay with.
Starting point is 00:39:38 Can you see the whole crowd singing, Ellie De La Cruz? Yes. We need him to be a little better, though. He struggled a little bit last year. What do you think about Ice Cube? The Big Three tournament offered Caitlin Clark $5 million to play in the Big Three League this year. The Big Three for those of those who don't know, that's where they get all these old guys to play three-on-three basketball. So it's like all the people that aren't in the NBA,
Starting point is 00:40:03 but they still want to play basketball and they play in it. I mean, I can't remember. Who were some of the people in it last year? Oh, my goodness. I can't remember. Yeah, no, no, on top of my head. It was just like, Jamal Crawford or something like that. Well, man, he's still in the league, maybe.
Starting point is 00:40:16 I don't know. They just have dudes who you've heard of, but like they're not in the league anymore. I think maybe Jason Williams, White Chocolate played in it. What? Isaiah Briscoe was in. That's right. He was in it. That's right.
Starting point is 00:40:28 Joe Johnson. He was the guy that killed it. Joe Johnson from Arkansas. That was the guy that was playing so well. So he offered Caitlin Clark a chance to play in that. $5 million, if you were her, would you do it? Yes. $5 million is to go out and just play three-on-three basketball?
Starting point is 00:40:44 Yeah. I absolutely would take it. But what if she didn't do well? She's still going to make, she's still going to be the number one draft pick. She's still going to be. But part of the thing is, like, she's the greatest women's player of all time. If you go put her and she doesn't play well against old dudes, Does that hurt that at all?
Starting point is 00:41:00 I mean, I don't think women, like, I don't think they need to prove themselves against men. But if she does, people are all going to want to know, like, it's tough. Five million dollars is a lot of money. She's not going to make that in the WMBA. Now, she'll make it from her shoe deals. So her shoe deals will be more than that. But, like, she's not going to make that in the WMBA. So, like, I don't know, Drew, what would you do?
Starting point is 00:41:24 If you were her brother and she said, Drew, you're my. brother, should I play in this? It's like eight weeks long as it doesn't affect her WMBA status. I would. I mean, she doesn't have to get in there and post up, just launch threes. That's all they want you to do. But it's, I think, does she have to do it instead of the WMBA?
Starting point is 00:41:42 Now, if it affects her actual women's basketball career, I would not do it. But if this is something she could do on the side, I wouldn't worry about legacy. I mean, I'm looking right here. Cotino Mobley's in the league. He looks 55 years old. She's not expected to go in there and rebound with him. She's just going to shoot from half court and get
Starting point is 00:41:58 TV ratings. But if she goes in and doesn't do well against Catino Mobley, does that matter? No. I'm talking to go in and mail it in and just shoot. They're only there for people to turn on the TV. She doesn't have to win. What do you think? She's playing with house money because if she doesn't do well, well, she's playing a bunch of against a bunch of guys. Of course, you know, like, you're going to put a woman up against a guy in that situation. I don't think that they would, you know. But you also could say if she goes out there and, like, plays well. Yeah, exactly. Exactly. So she's playing with house money. I think either way, she's going to succeed. You're right. She can go 50% in that game. And as long as people have their TV on, that's all anyone wants out of that. Okay, so would you watch it? That's what I was getting ready to say.
Starting point is 00:42:40 I didn't watch one second of the three-on-three last year. If she's playing, I'm probably tuning in just to watch it. For Ice Cube, I understand why he wants to do it. Like, that's, I mean, I'm not going to watch a three-on-three, but if she was in it, I might watch it. Sure. I mean, I don't know if you saw the women's-spot and shoot. The women's NCAA tournament ratings were fascinated me. So the ratings for the tournament as a whole were up.
Starting point is 00:43:03 But the vast majority of why it was up was her. Like if you go watch it, her games were like through the roof high. But the others were up, but they weren't like crazy up. But her games, that game she played the other night against was it West Virginia? that game got a higher rating than all but like eight men's games. Wow. If they play LSU and the Elite 8 next Monday night, that'll be a huge rating. But it's all like it's mostly her, you know.
Starting point is 00:43:40 So she'll draw people to that three-on-three game because just because it's her. Yeah. What do I have left, Shannon? Court. Court. Oh, I thought I had a call. Court, Physical Therapy, K-R-T.com. If you need to feel better, get it.
Starting point is 00:43:53 all the pain out of your joints. Go to court physical therapy. You don't need a doctor referral. No, you don't. That's right. Court.com. That's K-O-R-T.com. Check them out with court.com. There's one location near you, 70, around the state. Remember, I host trivia next Wednesday night. Reds Nationals, who you got today?
Starting point is 00:44:12 Oh, go with Reds winning their opening day. They always win. What about you? I'll go Red since Braves are postponed. They're postponed? Right, Shannon? Yes. Yeah, yeah, tomorrow because of rain.
Starting point is 00:44:21 Rather already. Really? How do you already have won? weather. Exactly. Not happy about it. Where's the game? Philadelphia. Oh, yeah, you don't want to go there anyway. Stupid Philly. Well, I'm going to say Reds win. Frankie going to pitch. Two home runs for L.A. Dela-Kurd. Oh, well.
Starting point is 00:44:36 Better on draft kings. That's right. See you later. It's Kentucky Sports Radio. All right. We got to go. Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite.
