We got Ryan Lemon. We got Drew Franklin.
And for the first time,
in about a week and a half, we have Shannon the dude.
Yeah.
Yeah.
we get started.
Shannon, I know I speak for all of the listening audience that we've been thinking about you
and praying for you since the death of your grandmother.
And I just wanted to welcome you back and just ask, you know, because people ask me this
every day, how you're doing?
Well, first of all, I appreciate that.
And I just want to say thanks to everybody.
I want to say thanks to you, Matt, Ryan, Drew, Billy, all the listeners who reached out.
I mean, more messages than I could even keep up with and read.
it's been honestly the worst week of my life,
but you guys just being there for me
and your messages have made it a little bit better.
So I just want to say I appreciate that
and I love all you guys.
So thank you so much.
You know, I don't think everybody realizes necessarily
how close you were to her.
I know you talked about it.
I wanted to give you a chance
if you wanted to just say something about her
and your relationship with her.
Yeah, you know, for me,
it wasn't just my grandmother.
it was a best friend. It was somebody who I visited for a couple of hours every single night.
And, you know, getting away for a little bit helped me. But now getting back into the routine.
And I know, you know, tonight, normally when I would go out there and visit her, I'm not going to have her to be there for me.
And it's going to be very difficult. So I will just say that she loved, we played at the funeral, that little clip of her calling into KSR.
She loved listening to the show.
And she was just the best grandmother I could have ever asked for.
So it's going to be tough.
But again, I appreciate everything that you guys have done.
God bless you, brother.
Well, God bless you.
Yes.
You are every single person listening should hope they have a family member of any sort that was as devoted to them as you were to her.
And it sounds like she was to you.
Yep.
um and uh i'm just i'm i'm sad for you but i'm also happy that you got to have that
relationship uh throughout your life up to this point yeah and i appreciate that so i love you
guys well i love you too brother yeah um all right so that's not an easy transition but uh but we
will transition do you think uh uh what'd you think of yesterday i mean it was uh another quite a day
I mean, you got, you got, that turned out to be Scott Drew's family on the plane.
By the way, for folks, I mean, I get asked a lot.
How do you all decide what to say, what to not?
I think we knew yesterday during the show, it was Scott Drew's family.
But I was asked to not say that because they wanted the family to be able to go around town without people following them around, to be quite frank with you.
And I think I wasn't the only one asked that.
I think other people were, too.
And for the most part, I think everybody stayed true to that.
I think that's, listen, if you want to get a coach, you can't freak everybody out.
I think it already freaked them out.
They had to go to Georgetown, to be honest with it.
No, I'm serious.
I think it did.
So that was Scott Drew's family.
This is where the situation was, well, first, before I give to what the situation is,
was it weird seeing Kyle at the press conference in Arkansas gear?
It felt really weird to me.
I mean, he didn't seem comfortable.
Maybe I was reading into it, but to me he didn't seem comfortable when he was walking in and he's red coat.
And then he's when he was at the podium, he didn't seem comfortable.
I think the best way I can explain it.
Yeah, I don't know what was between his ears, but when he walked off that plane into the pep rally,
I'm just sitting there watching thinking he's got to be thinking, what in the heck have I just stepped into?
Because it all happened so fast.
He probably, he said himself a week ago, he never would have imagined being the Arkansas coach.
And then he's in the middle of it, getting the, or, you know,
calling the hogs at him.
Just surreal.
He didn't do it.
He didn't do it.
He wouldn't do it.
Just a surreal sight watching that press conference.
Yeah, he wouldn't do it.
How many times were Kentucky mentioned at that press conference, too?
So so much happened yesterday.
It's almost more than you can go into.
I had lunch with a friend and I had to apologize to her.
I was like, I'm sorry.
I wish I could get off my phone, but I can't.
I'm having lunch today with my mom.
And I was like, you know, I hope you understand.
Like, I'm going to have to be part of it.
But like, if you look at it.
at what all happened. You know, you had the article come out, kind of about the end of the relationship,
a lot of Cal Mitch stuff in there that maybe we'll get to later. You had the introduction at Arkansas
happened. And then, of course, comes the Kentucky part. So I gave this update at 10, at 11 o'clock last
night on a Twitter space. By the way, that had 10,000 people with five minutes known us. That's amazing.
I mean, literally, what is wrong with all of us, including me? Why am I doing a Twitter space at 11 o'clock at
night. But you know what? You don't get this a lot, right?
Yep. So what it was last night is for me, I think still what it is, although I suspect we
will hear something during these two hours. I just kind of feel like it might be a no,
but I think something's going to come out during the show. It's just a guess, though.
But as of last night, the situation was still the same. You know, I've been a little different
than the rest of the media in reporting that Drew was not offered yet. I know people
counter that and that's totally fine they can do that i'm not saying they're wrong but i'm
pretty confident in what i've said um kentucky's clearly very interesting drew you don't bring his
family up here otherwise but i do think we're in a situation where two guys have been the
primary targets billy donovan is the third but he can't he plays next week so they have to wait
um there's a celebration in connecticut saturday so i don't think there's any way anything could
happened there before.
I still think it's unlikely.
So then people have focused
on Scott Drew because if there's three candidates and there's
one you feel like you could get the most
obviously you kind of probably
do it. Last night
it was
that he basically said I want to pray on it
tonight and get back with you tomorrow.
My assumption is that conversation
has either happened or
will happen in the next little bit
and we'll see. We could have a coach
during this show.
We could have a coach in the afternoon.
We could have our first no, and then we're sitting there,
and the eye of the hurricane goes to stores,
and we sit there and hope Billy loses on Wednesday.
And I think we have to start legitimately talking about other candidates as well.
But there were some reports yesterday that it was a done deal.
I don't care what anyone says.
Those are false.
I think UK felt good about it, but I don't think they felt certain.
I think I was told last night 75%.
We'll find out here soon.
What do you make of it?
I think for Scott Drew to send his family up here,
I think that tells me that it's obviously more than just the basketball job.
They've got two high school kids.
You want to uproot them right before they turn a senior year and all their friends.
I mean, they've lived in Waco for what, 20 years?
You've got high school friends.
They are a very religious family.
they are at a religious institution, right?
Yeah.
They've got a mother-in-law, I believe, that lives with them.
Okay, so for people who have ever been in that situation,
that's another person you have to uproot.
And I do, now, with that said,
we're probably offering them twice the money.
And that's, I'm sure they're doing fine,
but that's life-changing money, right?
So, Drew, that's a lot of things that I think people have to think about.
Yeah, and I mean, he's pretty much created
the Baylor program, even though, you know, he's still got a little youth in his
coaching life.
It could be the case.
He just wants to ride it out a few more years and he's just a Baylor guy.
I agree with you.
I think we're going to know something pretty soon.
I think with all that happened yesterday, it's pretty much, or it is confirmed that the
family checked out Lexington.
I don't know specifically what's in front of him on a table.
But I think, just with all the noise, Scott Drew, I have to say something one way or another.
Yeah, I think for if he's going to stay, he has to tell Baylor that today.
Because there's even reports of Baylor looking around and they have to plan.
And I, you know, there was, there have been reports that Kentucky said you have to tell us by 6 o'clock Thursday.
I don't believe that's true.
I don't believe that's how Mitch would operate where he goes 24 hours or not.
I do think, though, Mitch and Scott have known each other and been friends and they know they kind of both owe each other closure quickly.
So I do think we'll hear it today.
I don't know what he'll do.
You know, I said this on the Twitter space.
Myron Metcalf knows Scott pretty well.
I didn't know that until yesterday.
But Myron told me of the coaches out there that, you know, he covers the whole country,
that Scott's one of the two or three knows the best.
And he said with Scott, it's exact what you see is exactly what you get.
He's like, he's a man of faith, and he doesn't just say that.
Like when he says he's going to pray on it and God's going to tell him what to do, he means it.
And unless somebody out there is, uh,
conversing with God about his conversations with Scott Drew, we're not going to know until he says it, right?
Right.
And Myron said to me, and Myron knows him better than anybody else I know said to me, like, he'll do exactly what he says.
I asked him how he thought he'd do here if he was the coach.
He said, I think Scott Drew is one of the two or three best X and O coaches in America.
And he'll get down and dirty with him in recruiting.
Yeah.
That's exactly what he said.
and then he said, I think he'll have his pick of players at Kentucky.
He kept saying, do you all, he kept saying to me, do you realize what it takes to get people to go to Waco?
And he's getting superstars to go to Waco.
And he was like, Kentucky, he goes, nobody can recruit like Cal.
Well, this is, this was the exact words.
He said, nobody can recruit like Cal and nobody can recruit like Kay did it at Duke.
He was like, but there's no reason Scott Drew couldn't be next in that line.
I agree he checks all the boxes when you come to a coach, recruiter, checks all the boxes.
But if he's looking at it from a family standpoint, living in the UK Fish Bowl,
like I don't think calling the Mexican restaurant was the best idea.
But do you know what, though, the whole calling the Mexican restaurant and the plain thing,
while it is insanity, I think if we're really wanting to make sure we get the right fit,
I don't think it's a bad thing that it happened.
if that doesn't work for them,
then we need to know now.
Yes.
You know what I mean?
And he needs to know now.
No, I'm serious.
Yeah.
Like, you can look at that one of two ways.
You can either look at that like,
that place wants me, this is crazy.
I can't wait to be a part of it.
Or you can look at that like, oh, that's scary.
And if you think it's scary, like, this isn't the place for you, Drew.
You know, like, it's just not.
And I respect if you think it's scary.
but like, then this isn't for you, you know?
Yeah, I kind of agree.
Give him a little taste of it, even though that was insane behavior yesterday.
I loved it.
That was only Kentucky fans would do that.
That's us.
The restaurant is insane.
It is insane.
That's what I mean.
But as you're saying, he needed to get a little preview of what's to come.
Now, we're not going to call every restaurant when he's here, but we did show we have some
crazy in us.
We're not the only fan base that tracks planes, but we might be the only fan base that calls
restaurants people are at and leaves messages.
Did you hear the guy said he had 100 messages?
And the reviews on Google?
All in five-star reviews.
By the way, thank you Kentucky fan base for using Google for good.
Yes.
The guy seemed very happy.
And he said later in that interview, they didn't put this club in up, that people called,
this is the good part of our fan base and bought strangers at the restaurant's food.
See, that's the story we need to hear.
Not the crazy story that we're harassing at Coach while he's trying to have lunch.
Well, apparently, Scott Drew,
apparently Scott Drew took the phone call from the guy and said that's impressive, honestly, and liked it.
That impressed that you found me where we were.
So, so if it comes out today that he doesn't take the job and it's because of that,
then I swear, like that, then he shouldn't come here because that, like that won't,
it won't work if you can't deal with that, Drew.
You know what I mean?
I know what you mean.
Completely agree.
He needed to see a little bit.
Even the planes of the airport.
It's what we do.
I mean, the plane's airport.
The camera is at the airport waiting on the plane.
We also have planes at our airport,
but the camera's out there.
Only in Kentucky is that chain link fence
going to be a line with fans and cameras
any time there's moving.
Now, I know there are people who this morning
have been tracking another plane to New York.
Let me just say about that.
These people still have a business, right?
And New York is a regular stop.
So I don't read anything into that one this morning.
Do you?
No, they go to New York.
like we go to Hamburg.
You know, it's not a big deal for them.
So I think everybody going, oh, now what's happening, I don't, I don't read anything into that.
Waco is a little different.
You don't just automatically go to Waco.
A return trip back, forth, morning, evening.
There are a lot of tea leaves that are pointing towards it, Drew staying there.
I'm just reading internet.
Jason King from Bleacher Report.
He's a Baylor guy.
He just tweeted prediction stank.
Chip Gaines tweeted Tyler Thompson this morning, saying today is not going to be as
anti-climatic is yesterday.
It seems there's a lot of noise spring right now.
I've gotten a few texts that even are playing now.
I've read a lot of, I've read a lot of, oh, Matt, you're behind the info.
You don't have as much.
Just because somebody says something doesn't make it true.
Yeah.
Okay, there was a lot of stuff that came out yesterday that was like, it's over.
It's never been over.
And it wasn't over last night.
Now, could it be over during this next commercial break?
Yeah.
But just because people say something, there have been one or two people who've had scoop.
I talked to one of them last night that I thought was real that I was like,
that's impressive you got that.
And then they told me kind of how they did.
And I'm like, oh, I'm going to listen to that person.
And then there have been a couple people that I listen to pretty regularly that I think are generally pretty on.
They have been way off on this.
Yeah.
I can tell you, I've been very careful what I say because I think a lot of the stuff out there's been wrong.
I think a lot of it's been wrong.
And I think the normal narrative out there,
has been way wrong.
I'm just saying, like, the normal,
people who think, and I don't care what
anyone says, people who
think that they've gotten a no yet
from anyone that's not Nate Oates
is wrong. And the Nate Oates
was even before they really got involved.
But everybody else,
well, Jay Wright, Jay Wright also said, like,
I ain't coach it. But everybody
else, they may get a no now,
but I think the most
of the information out there so far has been false.
We'll see what happens with Scott Drew.
859-280-2-807.
We'll open up the phones, take a break.
Be right back.
We'll be doing this all two hours.
This is KSR.
Welcome back, Techie Sports Radio.
Tomorrow, by the way, we will be at Barrelhouse Distillery off Manchester Street.
I would say to you, depending on what happens today, tomorrow could actually be a very exciting barrel house day.
So if you got nothing to do tomorrow, the barrel house remote would be a fun one to come to.
That's right there on Manchester Street.
So make your plans tomorrow to come to our first remote we've had probably in about a month or so.
One person writes, Matt, I need to know you keep hinting that they gave multiple offers at once.
I just don't believe that.
You're the only one saying it.
Why should I buy it?
Well, I ever said they gave multiple offers at once, but I think this idea that it's always been focused on one is just false.
I think they have three guys that they have been focused on the entire time.
I said this in the Twitter space, but I'll repeat it again.
I think the initial list was like six or seven guys,
about four of which they knew they had no chance at,
but you got to make the call, right?
Make them say no.
So you got to call Jay Wright.
You got to call Brad Stevens.
They, I think, called one other NBA person.
I've not heard the confirmation of the name,
but I feel pretty good that it was Frank Vogel.
All right.
So then there was the, and then I think Danny Hurley was in the,
the first list of he'll probably say no but let's call but then he didn't say no okay so then
he moves into this list of all right here's your realistic top targets Danny early uh Scott drew
billy donovan Nate Oates the Nate Oates thing I think they contact all four of them at the same
time Nate Oates is the only one where it doesn't then progress to phase two I think I think Mitch
This is just, this is what sources tell me.
Mitch has had conversations with Drew and Hurley.
Maybe hasn't yet with Donovan one on one.
But they've known each other.
He's been down that, like, he ain't going to learn anything about Billy.
He almost hired him twice before.
They've done those interviews.
They've done those before.
So now it's just a matter of which of these three do we feel like we're really going into?
I think they felt like Drew was the one that was most ready to go.
So they moved.
Still don't think there was an official offer, but it's clear.
You don't bring them up here unless they really are interested.
If they say no, then there's two they're lasered in on.
But I do think yesterday, and this is smart,
I actually think from what I know, Mitch has handled this pretty well.
Then they were like, all right, we can't be left stuck.
Let's talk to the next row of people.
And as I've told you, I think I know two of the five.
I'm told those are five people, and I think I know two of them.
which is Chris Beard and John Miller,
and I think there will be
Shaka Smart I'd heard, but that I didn't hear that yesterday,
so I'm not going to put him on there yet.
And then I'm sure the other three
over the course of the next few days,
if it gets down to them, we'll learn Ryan who it is.
I think when you're an AD at a school like Kentucky,
and you have a coaching opening,
you have to interview or at least talk to more than one candidate.
You have to have a couple candidates.
Caliperi, when he hired Cali Perry,
he talked to other coaches other than John Calipari.
And there's internet buzzes.
this morning, Billy Donovan's back in play. He was never out of play.
One of the things people have to remember is just cause the narrative is something doesn't
make it true. Remember, Jeff Goodman tweeted out that Scott Drew had accepted the job and
deleted it four minutes later, maybe two minutes later. But there is a screenshot of a tweet where
he tweeted out and said Scott Drew. Like, people were just ready to say something that hasn't happened
yet. I can tell you, I got Mario over there working right now on a graphic welcoming Scott Drew.
but he ain't here yet we just got to be ready in case it comes right so that's where it is
yeah it seems if uh i think we'll know about drew today about drew today regardless just because
he has to say something there's too much noise around him but if that isn't no i guess we wait till
sunday to see if they caught the hurley hellmery after he does a celebration at yukon because
he's not going to commit before his parade can't before the parade and then if you don't
have a hurley on sunday i guess you start calling that second tier but then you're kind of waiting on
to have his Wednesday play in game.
I guess is that the timeline we're looking at?
I think that's probably right.
But I think between now and that Wednesday, then they're engaging with the other people.
You go to Tier 2 while waiting on Donovan.
They're not sitting there and then just get, you know, so.
So you kind of touched on this.
Do you feel that that Drew has to give us an answer within 24 hours?
I don't think he has to, but I think both, I think he will.
Like, I don't believe he had a 6 o'clock deadline.
I just don't believe.
you know, a lot of people, and again, I'm not, I think everybody, there is no one left in the UK media world that I don't like it.
Couldn't always say that.
But I can say that down.
There's no one I don't like.
So I'm not disparaging anyone.
And on the national media front, I don't think those dudes ever lie.
Yeah.
Right?
But I think a lot of people spoke with a lot of confidence.
I mean, in hindsight, it's clear.
People said the Cal Arkansas thing was done before it was done.
That stuff, like.
Now, I don't believe what Cal said that he didn't get announced it until Tuesday to keep the national championship in the focus.
I don't really believe that.
That was uncomfortable when they asked him the timeline.
He couldn't probably, wasn't Monday.
I think it was probably.
But I don't think it was, duh.
I mean, there's no doubt.
I would love a 30 for 30 on what happened Monday in Lexington.
Yes.
That's what I would love.
Because I'd love to know those conversations on Monday because I think it was a lot wilder than we realize.
And you've said it.
I mean, Hurley has yet to officially say no, right?
I don't think anyone has said no, except Jay Wright and then Nate Oates.
But again, those weren't even knows to an offer.
They were nos to theoretically, can we go down this world?
Yeah, do you want to talk?
Do you want a conversation?
I think those are the only two knows that we have.
Who's up first shit?
Dan.
Dan, go ahead, Dan.
I got 30 seconds.
Thanks, Matt.
Hey, I think what the Kentucky fans won is a coach who already has a connection and allegiance to the university.
And at the top of the conversation for who to hire is the next head coach, should be Perry Stevenson.
But why do you want that?
Oh, you're Perry Steven.
All right.
I love Perry, but come on.
Because it makes sense.
You're being goofy.
I appreciate the call.
859-280-2287.
This is an adult's conversation.
Yeah.
All right.
We'll take a break.
We'll be right back.
This is Kentucky Sports Radio.
T.J. Smith, personal injury attorney. Call T.J. He'll make them pay.
Now, more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones.
Welcome back. I'll tell you sports radio. So yes, Jason King of Bleacher Report is predicting that Scott Drew will stay, but he didn't report it. He's predicting it. He does know Scott Drew, but that's probably just a gut thing. But it could be, you know, the case. I was talking with this guy right here. And I do think this report, Ryan, you've been doing this a long time. So is Drew.
you know, I think one of the things that happens in these circumstances,
and I'll say this because I made this mistake,
so I can say it because I'm one of them.
There's a desire for people to have information all the time,
and because of that, you feel the need to feed the beast.
And so sometimes that's where you end up making mistakes.
Yeah.
Right?
You feel the need to, like, just keep saying info,
and that's when you screw up.
And the reality is most people don't know for sure what's going on.
And so I made that mistake in an event that happened early on in Cal's career,
where there was something everybody was.
Well, no, it was when I remember now.
It was when Cal was potentially going to Cleveland, right?
And I knew the basics, but people kept wanting information.
So I just kept saying stuff.
And that's when I said stuff that ended up not being 100% right because I was like,
well, I've got to give these people something, right?
I've learned not to do that.
And I think that's where, so the people that all already have Scott Drew here,
or have already said Hurley's out,
I think there's just a desire to feed the beast,
and you've got to be careful about that.
Yeah, just because, you know,
if they were interested in Scott Drew
and Scott Drew had interest in the U.K.,
we've already just seen.
There's been a lot of other factors
when you talk about your family
and uprooting some kids and things.
I mean, plays in a lot more than just basketball sometimes.
Drew, were you glad to see John Wall come out yesterday
and say, I'm still a Kentucky guy?
I'll still see, Mario was worried those dudes would all be gone,
but John Wall said,
I'm still going to go back there.
I'm still going to train there.
I wish Cal the best, but I'm a cat for life.
Did you like that?
I did.
I love the whole podcast where he talked about Cal.
It's like the first 15 minutes.
He spoke very highly of Kentucky and Cal.
I think people forget those players can do that.
They can still like both.
But he said, I thought it was very interesting.
He said, I don't want to throw any names out there because he was asked who he wants to be the next coach.
But he said, whoever it is, I'm not, I don't know enough to be just putting my name behind someone.
I don't want to answer that.
But he did add, whoever it is, I want to meet.
them and I want to feel welcomed.
I want to be able to come in and use the gym.
I want to be able to show up and support them at games.
Whoever that is, he hopes that there's a big relationship.
And I loved hearing that from John Walker.
And I think that's what will happen.
I'm going to, you know, I got an argument with Mario about that last week.
I think that's what will happen.
Look, Malik Monk grew up in Arkansas.
He's going to show up at some Arkansas games.
He grew up there.
He almost went there.
I expect to see Malik Monk there.
And I expect to see various U.K.
players stop in at an arena, go up, do the thing.
But in 10 years, Cal won't be the coach at Arkansas.
And Anthony Davis has got a long life of returning here to be the Y.
And John Wall's got a long life with returning here to be the Y.
Devin, like, they ain't going to be returning to be the call the Hawks when Cal is not in
Fayetteville, right?
Yeah.
Like that doesn't, I mean, let me ask a question.
How many times did Derek Rose come here?
Zero.
How many times did
What was the other guys name?
Tyree Kevin.
Tyree Kevin's.
How many times did he come here?
Never saw him.
How many times Marcus Camby come here?
How many times did Lou Roe come here?
Like, people are, you know, their allegiances to the alma mater.
I expect Cal's a little different.
I do expect he'll make it to where guys, you'll see a picture of somebody in Arkansas
gear.
But life is long.
Life is not short.
He ain't going to coach down there more than about five years.
years at most. Would you agree with that? And then from then on, they are not going to Fayetteville.
They are going to come to Lexington. So, you know, I'm not, I've seen John say that warmed my heart,
but Ryan, I'm not surprised. Yeah. I think you said the right words. Players will visit
Fayetteville, but their home is still Lexington. That's exactly right. It's a really good way to put it.
I'm sure, actually, Derek Rose probably did visit Lexington. But his home is Memphis if they still like
Do they still like him there?
I think they made it.
He might be a unique circumstance.
Yeah, he might be a unique circumstance.
But I bet those other guys go to Memphis that went to school there.
Sure.
Last night watching Cal's press conference where Arkansas is trying to become Great Value Kentucky down there.
I didn't love them using our NBA players.
Use your own NBA players.
Put your bums up there.
They're claiming everybody that played in Kentucky and they didn't have one Arkansas player on that video.
Did you call it Great Value?
Yeah, actually, that was off the cuff there.
I think I'm going to keep that one.
That's a good one.
Great Value.
But really, they're like, look, Devin Booker.
Carl Tows.
Uh-uh.
They didn't go there.
They didn't go there.
Cease and desist on those.
They didn't go there.
What about Cal saying it's a blue blood?
Plus his heart.
That's a little bit of a reach, Cal.
Stop.
A little bit of a reach.
Stop, Arkansas.
You're not on that tier.
I thought Cal was kind of blue bloods.
Six.
North Carolina, Duke, Kansas, Kentucky, UCLA,
and we have to welcome Yukon to the group now.
I don't want to, but they're in.
Then there's a second tier.
That's Indiana,
Louisville
Villanova
Villanova
maybe Michigan State
I'll consider
Arkansas's application
for third tier
I'll consider it
but they are not
Drew Franklin
a blue blood by any definition
no and it's kind of
clown it felt like we pulled a
calipari string and he was just saying all the
lines there to them but as much
as I thought some of that was weird
and he was just repeating phrases
I will give him credit.
He was very complimentary of Kentucky.
Yes, he was.
Called assault to the earth people, said he liked the governor.
I did think he might.
That was, that was very nice of him to go out of his way to speak highly of Kentucky,
because I wondered if he would do that, and he did.
So even though a lot of it felt like you were hitting a Calipari soundboard button,
that part, I really appreciate you.
A little quick, I wanted to do this yesterday and forgot.
Let's quickly before we go to the phones, let's play a game like I would do at the bar.
Calisms.
You have to say a Calism, and you,
You can't repeat or run out.
I'll start.
Pikeville to Paduca.
Poop ice cream.
Crying on the yacht.
Shannon.
This isn't for everyone.
Can't hide you.
Oh, that was mine.
They kick it in the stands.
What?
Everybody's freshman.
They go out and they kick it in the stands.
Are we accepting that one?
Look at the crowd.
Kick it in the stands.
Yes or no?
I'm out.
Ryan's out.
I haven't heard of kick it in the stands.
I'll say I haven't seen him.
Okay.
Yes.
Shannon.
Be your brother's keeper.
All right.
we need makers not shooters that was my next one uh dang it i wouldn't even thinking of one i had that
one dialed up three two can i just do how he starts every press conference this year he walks out
without an opening he goes yes all all press conferences my media knows that one no all right shannon
you got to get this to tie me oh gosh um i don't know that i have another one oh i win the calipari
off gold standard gold standard how about this all right go that we could accept that
give me yours on the text machine 772 7754 I'm sure we're missing uh you you said I can't
hide you right one of us somebody said somebody said that who's up next let's go to cecil
cecil go ahead cecil by the way the Jeff Goodman thing by the way the Jeff Goodman thing was not a real
tweet I guess somebody did so just so you know okay to be to be fair to Jeff that was a fake tweet
They've photoshopped it like he did it.
Photoshopped it.
All right, got you.
Go ahead.
Thanks for taking my call.
A quick shout out to Shannon, the dude.
For the last 10 days, I've been sending you good vibes.
I've been a loyal listener, so I've known what he's been doing for his grandmother.
And Shannon, I'm here to tell you.
I have a little bit experience in this department.
There's nothing or very little you'll do in life that's bigger than what you did for your grandmother over these last few years,
spending time with her.
You're a good man.
And I know Big Blue Nation has kept you in their hearts, thoughts and prayers.
I appreciate that.
Thank you very much, Cecil.
And another quick shout out before I get to my comment real quick.
I'm happy for Calipari, just like the women's coach that we just hired, said that I do believe Arkansas is a sleeping giant with their level of expectations.
and resources and passion,
I think Calipari will do damage.
And sorry,
I went a little long with Shannon.
And my comment is,
I hate to say it,
but I'm not the biggest valier
or supporter of Scott Drew.
I think there was two grand slam,
even though it's not official,
two grand slam hires.
You better get to be a supporter.
Cecil,
I watched you.
I listened to you for two years.
Take up for every loss we had to bad teams with Cal, and I appreciated that loyalty.
But now you're going to have to give that loyalty back to whoever's next.
And I will.
And I will.
I'm a rock winning regardless, but I want the fans to know that 21 years, he did not make the tournament eight.
Yes, he also took over a program where for the first two years he wasn't even allowed to play non-conference games.
Okay.
And he went out in the first weekend.
All right.
I appreciate the call.
Listen, man, I love you, Cecil.
But Cal's gone.
Cal's gone.
We got to get that.
I mean, I still want to do these things, but, like, he ain't coming back.
And I understand not being, like, thinking Scott Drew's a great choice.
I get that.
But Danny Hurley, if that doesn't work, what are you supposed to do?
You supposed to hijack someone?
I mean, like, tell me a better one.
I'm open to people giving me a case for,
someone over Scott Drew, but what ends up happening is you don't talk about the weaknesses of
that person and you highlight the weaknesses of that. Let's look at all the years, Bruce Pearl,
for instance, claimed out. A lot of them. Yep. Including this one. Now, if we get Bruce Pearl,
I'm going to be. We're all on board. I'm all on board. But, you know, I did, right. So let me go
through. Built for March. Built for March. Hold on. Let me roll off you real quick.
Okay, go for it.
Well, heck, that just threw me off, too.
Go ahead.
Well, I was ready, but then you were saying at the same time.
Let's see.
Built for March, La Familia.
They're not robots.
Not robots, not machines.
You see what I did there.
See what I did there?
Basketball bennies.
Oh, basketball bennies.
How did we not do that one?
That was a personal favorite.
Basketball bennies.
That should have been easy.
Somebody said succeed and proceed.
That's actually Renee Cordette.
Yes.
So I'm giving her the tweak.
The tweak.
Tweek.
How did we forget that one?
You know I'm not a proponent of this tournament.
Everybody's Super Bowl.
Well, I was going to bring that today.
Does Cal call Kentucky their Super Bowl?
He better.
Because he's called.
We were Arkansas Super Bowl for 15 years.
When we come, they're going to have a T-shirt game.
They better.
They're going to have a T-shirt game.
Like, that's going to happen.
And let me tell you one, he said that I think is genuine
and is one that I have said about my life a lot.
So this is one that I've applied to myself because of Cal,
but I also think Cal has to apply it to himself
when looking back at his last couple years at Kentucky.
How many times did you hear him say there's no crying on the yacht?
Yeah.
Right?
Yeah.
That's a great phrase.
When life is good, you can't complain about the small stuff.
Well, we gave him a lot here.
So there's no crying on the yacht.
and I think that's I think it's a good one but I also think like it's one that applies
you know to him as well 85928027 I'm sitting here what what what is all this stuff
people sent me Shannon I need I just need today's ads what are all these things
you should be attached you got draft kings you got something said VO and VO and

KSR.
All right, let's do some more really quick.
You had a good one.
I have a couple.
If I was wrong once, it was 1978.
Can't remember if I said, if you want to help your family go, help mine stay.
another good one, yeah.
Anthony Davis took the fifth most shot.
Yeah, another good one, yeah.
Yeah.
You people are crazy.
Yes, we didn't say that one.
I'm not watching game film.
I'm watching Little House in the Prairie.
I don't know if that was the saying.
I think it might have been true, but I don't know if that was the same.
You can keep them coming.
I like these.
These are good things.
I'm going to miss some of that.
We're the youngest team in America when oftentimes we were not.
That's true.
Yes.
I did like this year, we started two-fifth,
seniors and a sophomore and he would continue to get up and say we were the youngest team in
America.
After we played Florida, he said some stuff.
And Todd Golden of Florida was asked about it.
Todd Golden went, I just have to say that is factually inaccurate about what cow was saying.
All right, we have some breaking news.
Ronnie Nana!
O.J. Simpson has died.
Orenthall James Simpson has died of cancer at his house, according to his family.
you know, I don't know what you say about O.J. Simpson, except prayers to his family.
And, you know, I'm very sad for his family that he passed away and wished them nothing but prayers in peace.
Was it out there that even had cancer?
I didn't know that.
I didn't know that.
When I Googled it, it said they announced it just in February.
Okay.
They'll never, you know, there are like what, 10 moments in your life where you remember
where you were when it happened.
And like two of mine
are OJ Simpson related,
which is crazy.
But I remember watching
in Houston, Texas on my way to Mexico
the chase.
Yeah.
You know, there's that ESPN 30 for 30
about that day in sports.
Crazy day.
The start of the World Cup.
Arnold Palmer retires,
NBA finals, and the O.J. Simpson
Chase was all on the same day.
Yep.
And then I will remember
sitting in art class in
Middlesboro High School when I found out that
he was acquitted. Those two, I mean
literally, if you were to say like the ten things
that I can remember where I was when I
heard it, that's one of them.
Definitely that white Bronco chase. I think
we all remember exactly where we
were watching that. You know, they had the
Pacers and Knicks playoff game split screen
NBC did. Marve Albert trying to
call both of them. It was crazy.
Yeah. So, there you go. All right, who's next
Shannon? Let's go to John.
John, go ahead, John.
Hey, guys.
First time, long time.
What's up?
Who are?
Hey.
So there was an ESPN report that came out, like, Tuesday night talking about Billy
Donovan that his, he hadn't heard anything from the university,
but his commitment was there with the Bulls.
But what else is he going to say?
Like, I don't believe what any of these coaches say.
It's like when Dan Hurley was asked on the floor of the national championship,
are you going to consider Kentucky?
Well, what is he going to say?
Like he's not going to, so Billy Donovan is playing for their playoff lives in Chicago.
That man can't say, yes, I'm going to consider Kentucky.
So I don't put any stock into what they publicly say unless they flat out say, no, I will not take that job.
And by the way, Danny Hurley's been given multiple chances to say that, and he hasn't said it yet.
We have more breaking news.
I can't see it.
I can't see it.
More breaking news.
Running on.
Scott Drew has passed.
on Kentucky and we'll stay at
Baylor. Wow. Wow.
You know, you
got to wonder how much the
wife's trip to Lexington played a part in it
and being in that fishbow and the craziness
that we are and the city and uproot
and their family. You've got to wonder how much that
played a part in it. Yeah, I alluded to this
a little bit in the first segment, but right
before the show, it just seemed everything was
heading that direction. I had some messages that weren't
direct. They were implying it. Four or five
Twitter accounts like Chip
Gaines and the Jason
King and another Baylor account.
They were kind of pointing that way, so it just seems like the tides were shifting that direction.
And just a piece of advice.
All those people last night that said Scott Drew is the next coach, including, again, I'm not crushing.
There are some insiders that have developed in the national landscape, and I think they do a good job, and I like them.
But you've got to take everything with a grain of salt.
and, you know, just sometimes no news is actual correct news.
Yeah.
And there was never a moment that UK thought they had him
and that UK was certain to have given him, like, the offer.
They're not, UK's not going to offer somebody until they know they're going to take it.
So all this notion that UK had offered them,
they are not going to offer a person until they know they're going to take it.
And they have been the whole time talking with three guys waiting for one of them
until they felt like he was going to take it.
Now, I will say, I think UK felt good about it yesterday evening,
but he was going to go home to pray,
and I guess God said, stay and wake up.
You don't want to make that offer and somebody turn it down.
That makes you look bad, so you just get those feelers out there,
and you just talk to him to see.
And I'm telling you, they never gave him an offer.
Now, would they have wanted him?
Of course.
But the way these, you heard the Arkansas AD got up yesterday
and said, I didn't give any offer to Cal.
Well, that may be true, but clearly they wanted other people.
Kentucky has always wanted three guys, and it's like, which one can we get?
One down.
Yep.
Two to go.
Now we wait.
We'll take a break and come back here.
Hour number two, this is Kentucky Sports Radio.
