Okay. So that was the ones. We lost our Champions League bet. One of the two games, Drew, was tied at halftime. That's right. But the other three. Well, two of them play today. But Dortmund started scoring like the rude Dortmund guys they are.

And we didn't get it. But the one game, Shannon, a team scored. And I was like, oh, no, we've lost. But then the other team scored. Ah, nice. Yeah, usually it's what, zero zero in soccer? I don't watch a whole lot of soccer. I know there's not a whole lot of scoring.

So we didn't win our bet, but that's all right. It's okay. We'll get them next time. We've been on a roll. I'm not set back for a major comeback. That's right. So I'm not concerned. at all. One person writes, Matt, I love you guys, and I don't want to be worried, but I am a little

bit worried about the dude only playing half court. Tell me not to be worked. All right, so I talk to LDS. They said they prefer, when you're talking about these things to say LDS, or wait a minute, Latter Day Saints. Yeah, Latter Day Saints than Mormon. I'm going to have to say more. I can't not say Mormon, I don't think. But LDS is the thing. And they said each mission, Shannon, the rules are different. Okay. So like the mission leader can set the rules, but that most of the rules we talked about are actually true.

So this person told me that their rules included they could only call their parents three times a year. Oh, wow. If you got to choose wisely when you call, then. So here's my question for you when I heard that. Yeah. You get three times a year. When are you calling home? three times a year.

Mother's Day, Father's Day, and Christmas. I guess that's it. But they've got your birthdays. Yeah, I was going to go birthday, birthday, and then keep one for an emergency and use it on Christmas. I was going to say Christmas, birthday, and then my mom really likes Easter.

So I was going to say Christmas, but the problem for me is Christmas and my mom's birthday are close. Yeah. So maybe you do it in the middle, Shannon, of Christmas and birthday. or do you just space it out? We'll talk once every four months. And what if you call, they don't answer?

Is that one? You've got to schedule it beforehand. Surprise calls won't work. Or they accidentally hang up on you? Oh, no. Sorry, I have my iPods in. Yeah. I think you got to keep one as a back on.

AirPods. Go ahead. What are you going to say, Drew? You got to keep one in case there's an emergency until late in the year. If it's true, I can only have three. What if you burn all three earlier? So you're saying like you're doing it like with. Calipary with timeouts.

No, I'm not taking all of them home. I just one of them I'm taking home. Just never call. Like, say you can't find your birth certificate. You got to call your mom. I mean, you got to have that one ready to go. What about texts? Can you text?

Well, no, are you all in all seriousness? are you worried about only playing half-court basketball for two years? I got to thinking about this after our show yesterday. I mean, really, you can be as competitive half-court as you are full court. The only difference is you're running up and down the court. So conditioning could be a concern, but not as being competitive at all. I don't think so at all. All right, what about you, Drew?

I'm not really concerned. I mean, if this were the season's about start, we're learning this, and he's our starting shooting guard. He hasn't played in two years. You know, Pope uses a lot of depth. going to get a lot of players. We heard yesterday how dedicated these kids are and they go on the missions. I think he will have enough time between when he gets here in an actual game to get his stamina and legs underneath him. But it is kind of a fun little side story to talk about and wonder.

It's very unique. Shannon? I think he'll be okay by the time the season rolls around. He returns in like two weeks, I think I read. Yeah, I think sometime early May. Yeah. So I think between May and November, he should be ready to go by then. All right. Well, I do like that. I do like the, this is old school Kentucky basketball intrigue. One of our players only plays half court. Like that's a

that feels like the old blog days. Like now, you know, before that, then everybody was like a star. Now you get the, sorry, one of your guys only plays half court. Maybe we just keep them down on one end and play five on four. I agree. The way we played defense last season, as well. One person writes, Matt, I think our worst coaching job was actually Kansas State in 2018.

Look at who was on that team. I'm not sure I've ever thought about this, Ryan. But that team, we were a four seed, I think, that year. Am I right? I think we were. Maybe a five seed. We were there a five or a four. Here was our roster. Shea Gilgis Alexander, Kevin Knox, PJ Washington, Nick Richards, Hamadu Diallo, Winion Gabriel, Jared Vanderbill. That's seven pros. And you lose to Kansas State. Seven. That's seven pros. Yeah. How many Kentucky teams have we had with seven pros? 2015, did we have seven? So Aaron played. Let's count how many we had in 2015. We had towns. We had Aaron Harrison, Booker, Ulyss got a cup of coffee in the league. I'm not sure if I'm going to count that.

Willie. Willie was four. Trey Liles. Liles. Did Dakari play in the league much? Yeah, Dakari was with the thunder for a while. So the 2015 team had, no, excuse me, I said Aaron. Andrew played. I don't think Aaron did, right?

So they had six. So this team Drew had more. Did our 2018 team have the most pros of any team. had? It's close. We had that discussion earlier this year when we just kept naming them. I forgot how many were on that team. Also, the point that brought this up about how that was a worst loss,

I will never forget being down two. And for some reason, we thought Quade Green's fade away Airball 3 was the way. That's the moment I thought, because Cal had the no timeout philosophy, that's the moment I thought might have been a timeout situation there because we took a horrible shot. That would be a sneaky question for. trivia. Did the 2018 team have the most pros? It may have.

In the Cal era. Because all of those guys I just mentioned have played multiple years in the pros. Yeah. Not like just a few days. Wow. J.T. 30 seconds. Go. Hey, Matt. First time decent time. Who I?

I just got a point to speak to something Ryan said the past couple days. I don't necessarily disagree with them. that we're going from player first to fan first. I think we're going to UK first. I think it can be a realignment of everyone's interest and everybody can have a common success and everything will take care of itself.

Fans will pour their hearts of the players. The players can get back to the fans. That's all that's up. I'm with you. I agree with you. I'll take it. I think that's totally, it is a rebirth to a different form of Kentucky fandom where I think people will have it in their heart.

Here's what I'll put it like this, Ryan. If we win a title with Pope as coach, it will be as special as it was when I hear people talk about that 78 team because it was a Kentucky guy that was the coach. Kentucky players played a lot of the key roles. I think it'll be kind of like that. That is a good comparison because everybody during that era loved that 78 team because of what you said. I think they felt like they were a part of it. I think it's a good point. I feel that way right now already with Pope with what he's going to do here.

We all feel like we're a part of it again. We're not on the outside looking in. Donnie. Go ahead, Donnie. Yes. First off, Shannon, I'm very sorry for your loss. Thank you, Donnie. All right.

Same philosophy you have with weights in the wait room. They're doing fine to sitting there. Yeah, why do I got to pick them up? Don't pick them off. Leave them where they're at. They're not bothering anybody. They're not fathering the soul. Let's go to Aiden. that's like the only thing Shannon ever remembers I've ever said was my philosophy of weightlifting. But I just want to get out the word out there that we have an entire data analytics team program made up of grad students and professors here at UK. And you liked that, didn't you? I liked the plot. The plot was really good. And didn't you, did it ever make you want to read another book? Well, I do have Rex's book. I haven't read it yet, but I've got it. That's a possibility. All right. That's, well, that would be a good next one for you.

Read about Rex. All right. I read Rex's book. Yeah. I'm on a book terror right now. I've moved on to Goose's book and then I'll have Jerry's book. It's all the UK books are on my table right now. I've read more books in the last three months than I've read in years. After I'd kind of gotten, honestly, having a hard time like focusing. Shannon, now I'm reading left and right. Good. I gave up reading. I will read enough for both of you. By the way, before we go, the first of you. phones. Prayers to Kenny Brooks, the new women's coach. Yes. His daughter said yesterday that her mother, Kenny's wife, is going through chemotherapy and that he is literally working at UK and then commuting to drive and see her as she does the chemotherapy. And unbelievable, like think about how hard that has to be. She was saying it in the context of basically saying, well, Virginia Tech, hey, will you fans give us a break?

We've been going through this. You know, it's a good. It's a good lesson to remember that all of these people are human beings. And everybody, as my mom used to say to me all the time, and I always try to remember, every single person you see is going through something. You don't necessarily know what it is, but everybody's going through something. And even if they're a name you talk about on the radio or whatever, they're going through something. And we saw that with Kenny Brooks. So prayers to his wife.

What's his wife's name, Ryan, do you know? No, I saw the story and I can't remember what her name is. Somebody sent it to me because I'd like to say it. I don't just want to call her Kenny Brooks' wife. But prayers to her. Chrissy, her and her family as she goes through that. Joe and Philly, 30 seconds. Go ahead. I had something different planned, but on that note, I'll just say last Friday was maybe the first time I'd cried in a couple years. I found a box of my mom's stuff. shoot past 10 years ago. And then I got the grown man tears on Sunday when they started that go big blue cheer. My girlfriend couldn't care about that stuff.

But when they cheered for you, knowing what you've gone through, Matt, that's when she actually teared up. When you got that applause is when she looked up from her phone. That's very kind of her and kind of you. And thank you very much for that. I appreciate it. It was, it's those of you that have said that to me, that is very, very nice of everyone. And that means as much as the cheer.

Let's go to Phil. What's up, Phil? Hey, boys. I want to preface this by saying it was time to move on from Cal, super excited about the next administration. But all that being said, the St. Peter's loss, the Oakland loss. They were tight games. If you replace the name on the jersey with Arkansas and change color to red, does Cal win those games? What do you mean?

if it's Cal's the coach, but it's just a different team. Yeah, so why he's going to have success at Arkansas and why it was time to move on. No, no, I mean, it's going to be the same thing. It's going to be the same thing. He's not going to all of a sudden draw up play. To me, the most telling thing, Drew, that happened was John Welch, not only leaving, but the story that he was leaving no matter what to go to Fresno State. That means the dude who's the biggest X and O guy Cal's had since Robic was leaving.

that's telling to me, Drew, it just is. Me too. And I mean, we don't know what each individual person has between their ears and why they left. But there's a pretty good-sized list of people that came by quickly and moved on to somewhere else or someone like Beisner who was in the mix of Kentucky forever and he moved on to somewhere else. Whatever was going on behind the closed doors, it wasn't keeping people around. And there wasn't, it didn't seem to be a lot of joy in a good atmosphere behind there. There was no joy.

That's the best way to say it. Well, is it Casey at the bat where it says there's no joy in Mudville? Casey at the bat, that's it. Well, there was no joy at the Joe Crafts Center. But you know what? The thing about Welch, it puzzles me. Maybe you can help me understand it because the offense was better. They ran out of bounds plays.

I mean, I thought that was one thing he was brought in to do to kind of be. But if it's not a good working environment, it's not a good working environment. That's what it's got to be. Period. The success was an offense. Like, it's not, if you've ever worked somewhere where you're not happy, you're not happy. And again, we'll save that for a conversation later. But that didn't, I didn't know about that until Kyle Tucker said it, but it did not surprise me.

Barbara, 30 seconds. Go ahead, Barbara. I just wanted to check your LDS missionary requirements because they become more liberal nowadays. Have they? Yes, missionaries can communicate with their families on their P-Day, which is Monday. Okay. And also your holidays that they can call is Mother's Day and Christmas. Okay.

So they can do every Monday then. Yeah. That's every Monday's good, right? Like you get once a week, Ryan, that's good. Yeah, I like to talk. I like you all like talk to my mom and dad every day. So yeah, I can do it once a week. You talk to your mom and dad every day?

Well, they had, you know, they swept the White Sox. That was good. And now they're in Seattle. And it's late at night. And I like the late at night games because they can watch them

and then kind of drift off to sleep, and they've lost two straight. And I think at that point, Drew, you have to give up, right? And when you lose two straight? I don't know. It's April 17th. There's a lot of baseball left. I know, but still.

I mean, I want them to win, Shannon. Well, wish in one hand and you know what in the other. Problem is, all our guys get hurt. Like, Matt McLean is hurt. I sort of have my list of ones I don't like. It's starting to develop. And I don't want to not like them. I don't like Buck Farmer.

I'm just going to tell you. We need to get, Buck Farmer, Ryan, needs to be, he's my new Diaz for what was Jumbo Diaz. We need Buck Farmer, trade him for a farmer, just off the street. It would be better than him. But besides,

and then I don't particularly like the guy that pitched last night, Pagan or whatever his name. I just, I hate our bullpen. I just. They're only a game and a half back. I know, but we should be ahead. I had this conversation with my dad all the time. Like Drew said, there are still 100 games left in the season.

There's more than that. It's a fun team, a young team. 145 games, I think, left, yeah. So they are fun. They are fun. I mean, I'm going, they're going to be home Friday for like the next seven days. So I'm going to go to some. I'm going to go Saturday, probably maybe Sunday, but still, may give up.

You have buyers remorse on your season tickets? No, no, I'm buying them. I like them. It's more social for me. I can read. I can take my friends. You know, it's still, though. Why can't they be better?

Brian, the intern, just wrote. I want all of your takes on this. All right. What is success year one for Mark Pope look like? Brian, you lead off. I'm going to say get to the weekend of the SEC tournament. Just the weekend just won one game. Okay.

I would like to just get to the weekend of the SEC tournament. I would like to at least get to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA tournament. Okay. And I, I think, to be honest, for his first year, I think I would be happy with that. All right, Drew. You know, I laughed when he said make Saturday of the SEC tournament, but then I realized I barely remember doing that. We've only done it once the last four years.

That would be nice to do again. Yeah. I don't want to set to, like a set goal on the tournament. We have no idea, but I would certainly be happy making the second weekend with them. Would like more. who knows, but second weekend I'd be happy with. And then a decent regular season. I don't know that he'll win the league in year one,

but don't be in seventh. You know, just be in the mix in the SEC for most of the year. Can I add one more for you to go? Okay. And beat Arkansas at Rupp Arena. All right, Shannon. Yeah, I think make it out of the first weekend of the NCAA tournament would be successful compared to what we've had the last five years.

But, I mean, the ultimate goal is national championship. I don't expect that in the first year. But I think if he made the sweet 16, that would be a successful season. for me competitive all year win at least 20 games in the regular season maybe 21, 22 when two of these three Duke St. John's Arkansas

two of the three, preferably the last two, SEC tournament finals and then NCAA don't lose to an Oakland or a St. Peters, right? but also develop the program where I see in year two and three having a shot at winning the whole thing. I don't think they're going to have a shot to win the whole thing this year. I just don't think it's going to work out like that.

I hope it does, but I don't think it will. But I want to make it to where I can go into year two and say, all right, this is a top 10 team. Let's go for it because that's doable in today's college basketball. I think that most fans would be happy with everything that we said. I don't think there's any denying that that would make a lot of us happy after what we've gone through the last couple years. Matt, go ahead, Matt, 30 seconds. Hey, guys, speaking of Arkansas coming into Rupp Arena, something that's popular in the NBA right now when a coach or a player meant something to an organization and they've been traded or left on their own, when they come back, they do like a pregame tribute video before the national anthem. Should we do that for Cal to remember the good times?

No. And then boo the crap out of them during the game. No, I would actually go the opposite. No video, but I wouldn't boo. I'd just say good luck. That's what I would do. When I say boo, I mean, yeah, I mean talk trash or... Yeah, no, we should do that.

I remember them when I watched them beat Kansas and I watched them beat Baylor. Those were the two games of theirs I watched.

And they did struggle keeping guys in front of them, but I also watched them at least against Kansas go zone a lot and Kansas missed every shot that they had. had. But he says he'll switch it up and I, you know, but it's hard to find much on BYU's defense because everybody focused on how they score. Yeah, they're known as an offensive team, but I'm a big Ken Palm guy. You hear me referenced that a lot. They were number 60 in defense. So to have one of the top offenses, to have the 60th defense, you'd want to be a little better, but it's not horribly bad. Better than us. Yeah, Kentucky wasn't even top 100. So I like what he said about mixing it up.

And clearly they did enough to have that ranking. So it's going to be more of an offensive look, but we'll see how the defense is. Let's take, let me ask you a question. If you had to guess, who will be Kentucky, if you had to guess, and this includes people in the portal, maybe somebody committed, who will be Kentucky's leading scorer next year? If you had to guess today. You want me to go first? Sure.

What about all the players at the end of the bench? What does Cal do for them? Well, I mean, to be fair to him, I think he is good to those guys. I mean, you can't play them all, right? So, you know, in my criticisms with Cal, Ryan, none of them are about the way he treated players. I've always thought he was good to players.

I've never, you know, they, he has butted heads with players, probably more in recent years than in the past. But I don't think it's a fair criticism to say he has not been good to the players over the years. And I think that's his greatest strength. Yes, I do too. He loves his players and for the most part, they love him. I think that's his greatest strength as an adult, as a mentor, and as a coach. I think those relationships in the last few years have not been as good as they were before,

but they're still not bad, Drew. It's still not like I think those guys don't like him. I don't know that the bond was quite what it was before, but it's not like terrible or anything. No, and I think he cares about everyone that's ever played for him. I think he has a blind spot or a weakness at times, as we just saw, where I understand why he's giving guy room to play through it or find something, but at some point you are sitting a guy who could also be giving lots of stuff and growing his NBA brand.

So I think when Cal has a guard and he won't make the change, we can say that about the last several years. We all wondered if he was playing the right back court at times. I do think he can leave a guy on the bench when he's focused on. someone else trying to get them going. Tim. Go ahead, Tim. Hey, Matt. From the time that it was announced that Cal was staying until it was first announced

that Mark Pope would be our coach, there was a lot of criticism and quite honestly a lot of venom spewed at Mitch Barnhart. Do you feel that Sunday was at least in part of vindication for Mitch? Vindication will come for him when we see if Pope is successful or not, right? I mean, I do think what happened. I do think what happened. He does get the vindication of he made a decision that at the moment wasn't the most popular thing in the world and the team and the crowd has come around. But ultimately, I do think Barnhart's legacy as a hireer will come, Ryan, based on what Pope does.

If Pope ends up very successful, then that was a gutsy move by Barnhart that worked. You know, he went hired Joker and Billy Gillespie, but then he backed that up with John Calipery and Mark Stoops. Correct. You know, so now he's hit, really he hit two home runs in a week with Kenny Brooks, I think, for the women's program. I think Kenny Brooks is an amazing hire. Mingie owns been successful, right?

I mean, Matthew Mitchell was successful back in the day. So he's had a lot of successful ones, but he's also had some duds, and that happens, too. This one might be the one, though, that he's ultimately remembered for, either way. Brennan. Go ahead, Brennan. Hey, first time, long time. Who? I just had a question about assistants. If there's a coaching change between at a school, if some of the assistants stay over longer for contract reasons, does that count against the number of assistants that the new coach can hire until the old thing? it's like so much money on June 1st. I think that's all being worked out right now. So the answer to your question is, I don't know. But UK does have the ability to put people in administrative roles. And I don't know how that's going to work out with Orlando, to be honest with you. I've heard some things, but I can't confirm it.
