Last night, a blown call changed a game.
This morning, the internet lost its mind, and nobody's telling you exactly what happened.
That's where SportsSlice comes in.
I'm Timbo, and every episode, we're cutting through the noise, breaking down the biggest moments in sports and giving you the real story behind the headline.
And we're going straight to the source, the athletes themselves, their locker room stories, their reactions in the moment, and the stuff nobody gets to hear.

Welcome back.
It is hour number two here, Kentucky Sports Radio, Bluegrass Home Center, Bluegrass Homecenter.com.
If you go to Bluegrass Home Center, find a manufactured home multi-section, single section and
multi-section, two, three, four, and five bedrooms available.
If you get a home purchase in the next three months, Ryan, you get a $500.
Lowe's or Home Depot gift card.
How about that?
Would you pick Lowe's or Home Depot?
I am a Home Depot.
Lowe's or Home Depot.
I'm open to endorsements, so whoever must have paid me to endorse, I will decide.
Whichever one you pick.
All right, fair enough.
And then you also get a free television if you buy Timber Creek home.
What about that, Drew?
I would like a nice television to put my Timber Creek home.
That's exactly right.
Since these move around, do you think on a road trip, we could just, instead of get these
Airbnbs, we just hop in one of these houses and oversight loads.
it around the country?
KS House.
There we go.
I'm for it.
Why not?
Bluegrass Home Center.
Dot com.
859-28027.
Let's go over a couple of non-basketball things for a second.
UK baseball, biggest series of the year so far this weekend.
They play Tennessee tonight, Saturday, and Sunday.
Still some general admission tickets left.
The reserve seats are sold out.
Kentucky's number three in the country.
Tennessee's number four in the country.
If Kentucky can get through this series and win two, they are in the driver's seat to win the SEC.
If they win one, they're still in it.
Just think you can't get swept.
But this is a chance, Drew, to if they can somehow win this series, win two of three,
to sort of establish themselves as I know as crazy as it sounds, is a contender to win the whole thing.
That's crazy.
If I'm not mistaken, this is the exact midpoint of the SEC schedule right now.
There's four more series.
Yeah, I mean, they've all won all five to date.
They got a two-game lead on the conference, and then the Vols coming to Lexington.
I'm going to tomorrow night's game.
I'm going to let her by know right now.
I'm going to be very obnoxious, and I'm going to do a lot of heckling.
I'm going to be very loud because that's what makes a good baseball atmosphere,
but I'm really looking forward to that one.
You know, I've watched, I would say I've watched more Kentucky baseball than I've ever watched in my life this year.
I don't think there's any, and it is, they are so much fun to watch.
even if you don't care about baseball, what is interesting to me about them is, A, they steal all the time.
Like, they steal all the time.
They take an extra base all the time.
They get thrown out quite a bit.
And you know what Mingeon does?
Just claps and says, do it again.
I mean, they, they, you heard him say on the show, they like to put pressure on the outfielders.
They basically say, well, you're a college kid.
You're going to screw up.
It works.
And it makes it to where Ryan,
their games, they score like six runs in an inning all the time.
I think they lead the country in what they call them, like four spots or whatever.
But four runs in an inning, they have a stat for it.
Kentucky's number one in America in that staff.
They are a lot of fun to watch, and I love that style of baseball.
And Tennessee comes in.
They average like 10 runs a game.
I think they're the highest scoring team in the conference.
They play the exact opposite of us.
They like hit home runs.
They hit for power.
we kind of, so it'll be a great
matchup of style. So if you
have tickets and you can't go,
do not get rid of them to somebody
wearing orange. I mean, I saw that
a lot of Tennessee fans are trying to get these tickets
to come to the game tomorrow. You cannot allow
that to happen. I went to this series two or
three years ago, and in blue,
I was so outnumbered in my own hometown.
There was orange everywhere at that stadium.
Now, Kentucky's a little better this year. I don't think
that'll be the case, but the balls will try. Let me also
say Saturday and Sunday at the bar, Shannon,
Get some Kentucky fans.
Last time Tennessee came, we got overrun with Tennessee fans.
My bar was entirely full of Tennessee fans.
They pay money, too, but I don't like the orange in there during that.
Yeah, we can't let them take over KS Bar.
But, yeah, I think it's going to be a great atmosphere out there.
And I'm just happy for Nick Mendejoin.
Me too.
I mean, I love that guy.
You know, he struggled a couple of seasons ago.
I was wondering what the future was going to be here.
But for him to come out and start 31 and 5 is unbelievable.
31 and 5.
Yeah.
Best SEC start in UK history, third best start in conference history by anyone in SEC play,
and now they get Tennessee this weekend.
Let's go for a second to football.
You know, they had the spring game last Saturday.
I'm not even sure we mentioned it.
It's been very quiet over there.
I mean, I don't, you know, maybe we should have, but there was a lot of other stuff going on.
The big story so far has been brought Vandergriff.
everybody says kid looks good he had that picture of him with a tucked in what flannel shirt and a
what he called phone belt clip a phone clip on his phone he looked like he's ready to to go do some
work I hear great things about the guy you can't help but be a little excited right I think you
got to be really excited about what he's been what are you hearing you know all the receivers
that he's been doing great he's he's he is a 13th region guy though like he like he
likes to hunt and fish and you see him wearing his flannel shirt i mean i think eastern kentucky
folks are going to fall in love with this guy but here's another one bow allen had a good spring also
you know i thought when the practice i went to i was like did bow allen get better yeah like and
i'll tell you the the young kid the cutter bowley i thought he looked good too so if there is a
situation we have to go to a backup there is no concern i think on the staff's part because of how
good boll allen has looked this spring this fan base is going to love brought vanderer
They're going to love the personality of him.
I don't think people know him yet, but I could see him like playing Tennessee and spitting beech nut in the middle of the game.
Like, he just has that kind of thing, Shannon.
He's learning the culture quickly, I'm sure.
And then being in the SEC, he already knows that Kentucky fans hate Tennessee.
So I think he's going to finish his birthday.
He's playing in Georgia, yeah.
So he's used to it.
I went to a UK baseball game earlier in the season, and Brock Vandergriff went in front of me at the ticket gate.
Then I get behind him in line in the concession.
stand and he was by himself and he got the biggest bag of sunflow seeds and went and set by
himself and watched the whole game and I'm like this guy and he's still getting new to UK but
yeah he's just wanting to take everything in people don't know who he how many of you would
recognize Brock van degriff if he walked in here right now raise your hand one person I think this
is fascinating because he's going to be a star and everybody like in two or three months
everybody's going to know him.
But because he came here, didn't play before,
basketball has been in the news,
he is completely unknown.
And he is going to be the face of the program next year.
And I find that fascinating.
Like he was in our bar a few days ago.
A lot of people, nobody knew him,
nobody even talked to him.
And I thought to myself,
in a few months, he wouldn't even be able to sit here.
Is this a trick question?
Is Brock Vandigriff actually out there?
I probably wouldn't know him if I saw him right now.
That's what I'm saying.
I just think it's fascinating.
I think we saw the same thing.
When Willeves came here, I didn't know what he looked like.
That's true.
And Devin Lary came last year.
I didn't know what he looked like.
But you're right, in a couple months, I think Brock Vandigris' life is about to change
because we're all going to know him.
And I think we're going to be really excited about what he's going to do this year.
I agree with you.
Who's up next?
Ryan.
Ryan.
Ryan. Go ahead, Ryan.
Yeah, so this is Ryan from KVC.
first time, long time.
Oh, shout out.
So I have a question for the original Ryan from KBC, Ryan, the Jet Lemon.
So the president's gala's tonight, you're hosting it again.
Do you have a job?
By the way, we don't just like promote things like this.
But go ahead.
I can tell you there's a gala.
Are you hosting it, Ryan?
Yep, third year in a row.
Okay.
And what's your question, sir?
So does Ryan, do you have a joke lined up this year like you did last year?
All right, I appreciate the call.
Do you have a joke?
Please tell me you don't.
Last year before the gal, I tried out my joke with you guys, and you guys said, do not tell it.
It was bad.
Do you have a joke?
No, I don't have one yet.
I'm open to one.
If you've got a good one, I can go with tonight.
You're hosting.
I mean, usually the host has to give like a speech.
You tell a story or you try to be funny.
Have you planned anything?
I got a couple things in my head, but I've got a script that's like three-inch.
is long they have to follow the script so but I'm open to a good joke if you've got
three inches that's not a very long is not very long thick oh stacks of papers
oh I thought you're saying like a paragraph but so you're not going to do anything to be like
I'm Ryan lemon here's a funny story to get us started it they keep it moving man you don't
have a lot of time to chit-chat you got they want to go got to do this because they've got
dueling pianos is the entertainment tonight that'll be a lot of fun yeah all right get a joke
One joke. Who's next?
Smoking Jay.
Hey, Jay, go ahead.
Hey, first time, long time.
Who are?
Going back to the first part of the segment with REIT since you guys are in London.
And it's heartbreaking, but great at the same time.
I think it's the best move as a parent.
I'm a parent.
I know you're not.
You always want the best.
But you don't have to just throw that in there that I'm not a parent.
Why do you got to just throw that in?
What's that have to do with anything?
Anyway, what I'm saying is we all want our kids to pursue their dreams.
And I think it's the best move.
Even the stock, I don't know how much the stock would go up next year coming back.
It would not.
It would probably go down.
Second part of that, you mentioned some teams.
I'd really love seeing him at the Spurs with William Bionna and a Hall of Fame coach and pop.
That's where I'd like to see him to go.
Yeah, I don't know where he's going.
I mean, obviously, they don't even have the draft order yet.
appreciate the call. I think he's going to end up getting picked, Drew, probably number six to
13, something like that. It's probably where he ends up. There'll be a couple. I think there'll be
the two guys that are playing in Australia will be ahead of him, probably the kid from Yukon,
probably Dillingham. So there's probably top five. He's probably not going to get into that,
but I think six through 13, he'll find his way in there. So if you're trying to figure out where he'll
play. Look at the teams that didn't make the playoffs, but were like 9, 10, 11 in each conference.
So you're probably looking at like Atlanta. The Warriors actually are in that mix.
You know, I guess what? Sacramento, whoever loses the games tonight, that's probably
where you're looking at somewhere through there. Yeah, I know in all the mock drafts throughout
the year, seemed all of them would reference the spurs being interested in him and how he would fit.
I think if that were on the table, wherever they are in the draft, that could be a spot.
I just really, as I said in the first hour, I just hope it's somewhere that Kentucky fans can get to.
I mean, as fun as it would be to see them with Fox out in Sacramento, I'd rather be Charlotte with Nick Richards,
where every night you have Kentucky fans that can drive down and support him because whatever franchise drafts him,
you're getting the whole bluegrass with him.
Speaking of that, Shannon, you know, we don't talk about this, but Caitlin Clark is going to be two hours.
Oh, yeah.
Away from Lexington and Little.
I mean, she's going to be just two hours away.
You think you will try to make a trip?
They're sold out every game.
I've never been to a WNBA game, but I would go make the two-hour trip to go see her.
She sold more jerseys in her first day than all but like four NFL players did last year.
You're kidding.
Wow.
Wednesday night, I had dinner with a college friend who lives up there.
He's got two daughters.
And he said, guys, I have to be a fever of season ticket home.
I don't have a choice.
That's all my girls want is Caitlin Clark stuff.
they want to go to game she has completely taken over that city since she's been drafted but it is
crazy that like she's just going to be right there i mean she's just going to be you know two at what
how far is louisville two hours hour and 45 minutes and something like that from lansing
like not very far away at all who's next matt matt matt go ahead matt hello what's up uh not a whole lot
I want to comment on the
the
paying players. I'm a
I go back to
UK 64 when I got out
have donated
about $75,000
over the last 35 years
but this
this NIL stuff is the worst thing
in my opinion is the worst thing
that ever happened to college sports.
Well, it's never going to change.
I mean, it's never going to change.
Oh, I know that, yes.
It's never going to change.
Let me ask you a question, though.
Why do you think it's the worst?
Like when Kentucky played this year, when they were on the court,
did you care how much money they were making off the court?
It's just, no, I never, I never thought about it.
Exactly.
But like I say, it's changed college sports to, it's, it's,
like the pros.
But let me ask you, but I want to go back to what you said.
When you said it's changed college sports, you also said that when the game started,
you never thought about it.
So how's it changed it?
The games are still exciting.
The tournament was as exciting as it's been in years.
Guys are actually staying in school longer now than they were a few years ago.
So how's it worse?
Well, that's just my opinion.
You know, like I say, I have donated close to $75,000.
Okay, I know, you donated the money, yeah.
But I don't understand, I guess I just don't understand why it's worse.
But I will not, never donate to the U.K., and I've been there for 50 years.
But why won't you?
I don't understand.
I mean, when you were giving your $75,000, you were giving money to the coach.
why wouldn't you want to give money to the players?
I was.
But, no, I just, like I say, it's just my thing.
And I just think it's the worst thing as it could ever happen to college sports.
Okay.
All right.
Well, I appreciate the call.
To be honest with you, it needs some guardrails because it is kind of wild that guys just move teams.
But at the same time, I don't care.
I mean, I don't know the money to go to the players anyway.
Yeah, so look at John Cal Perry.
Just think about this for a minute.
Let's take last year.
John Calapary made $8.5 million last year.
Cal didn't shoot one shot.
And he made $8.5 million.
Reed Shepard and Rob Dillingham, and to some extent Antonio Reeves,
were what everybody came to see, right?
All you folks in London, you loved Reed Shepard.
kids love Rob Dillingham.
What is wrong with them seeing some of that $8.5 million that was going to Cal standing on the sideline?
Most of them is, you know, agree.
It's long overdue.
It should have happened years and years and years ago for these kids to be able to benefit from their likeness.
Jerseys with their names on the back, and they got zero money from that in the past.
Now they can capitalize on that.
I mean, think about how crazy it would be if we said in the NBA,
Steve Kerr gets $10 million, but Steph Curry doesn't get anything.
That wouldn't make any sense.
I see people complain about how much pro athletes make now,
and it's like, well, if you don't pay them, the owner's just going to keep that.
Money's there in a pool.
Somebody's got to get it.
I think it's better.
Like Shannon said, I'd really have the players get it than anyone.
I don't love to pay for play, but once you're there at the school,
I think you should be able to make as much money as you can at that school.
But I don't like the idea of, like, I'm going to give you X amount of a dollar.
But we do it in every other form of life.
In every form of life, Shannon the dude becomes a radio host because Iheart offers you an amount of money to come be a radio host.
Why can't that be true of college sports?
Well, I mean, it is.
I'm just saying I'm fine with the players getting paid when you're at the university.
I don't like them choosing just based on the money alone, not where they would choose your job based on the radio.
Sure I would.
Let's the college athlete.
Here's a question.
What do you feel like if it happens at the high school level?
I don't care.
If, I mean, if people, I believe in capitalism.
If people want to make money for their labor, they should get it, in my opinion.
Hey, stop overplaying for sunglasses.
Are you tired of buying expensive sunglasses only to lose or break them?
Go to Shady Race.

They have it at the summit in Louisville and other places.
It is shady rays.com.
We'll take a break and be right back.
This is Kentucky Sports Radio.
It is Kentucky Sports Radio here at Bluegrass Home Center.
Thanks to all you folks for coming out today.
606-215-3300 here at Bluegrass Home Center.
Remember, if you come by this weekend, you can sign up to win the TV, the griddle, and the curing.
It's all right here.
and you also can, if you get a home,
there are all kinds of various deals they have.
It's Bluegrass Home Center right here in London,
and they go, they'll take your home where you are.
Gave me a tour, a couple of homes here.
I went in that Timber Creek home over there.
You don't feel like you're in a manufactured home
when you're inside there.
I mean, it feels like it's almost 2,000 square feet in there.
It's super nice.
All these models are.
Some of the less than $50,000 you can get, too.
That's a great deal.
One person writes, Matt,
I think what that gentleman is saying with NIO ruining college sports,
that makes it to where a college can buy a player where they would not have gone before.
So?
I mean, here's my, let me just use Arkansas as an example.
Let's say these stories about Arkansas buying players, like spending a ton of money end up true.
Okay?
So let's say Arkansas goes and gets this roster that's got like nine or ten stars,
and we find out that Jerry Jones is paying them each a million dollars.
Okay, let's just say that happens.
Okay.
You know how good it's going to be to watch them lose?
Yeah.
You know what I mean?
A lot of wasted money.
I mean, that's going to be, it's going to be a lot of wasted money.
Yep.
You know how good it's going to be to watch these teams that we know are paying a lot of money lose?
I mean, let's be real.
What team out there you think had more players make NIL money than we had last year?
I'll tell you a little secret.
Shepherd, Dillingham, Reeves, probably made as much in NIL.
as any three players in the country.
And you know what?
We lost a guy to a guy who did a tax accountant commercial in a ballroom the next day.
Who's going to be a, and you know what?
America loved it.
So you know what that money did for us?
Nothing.
Right.
And because of that, do you think that it will eventually correct itself where people will say,
look, I'm tired of paying millions of dollars to not get results?
I think that's a really great point.
Here's what I think's going to happen.
And this is my prediction.
We'll come back and you can play this in three or four years.
There's a lot of boosters that are spending a lot of money right now for these players.
And rich people, they have many weaknesses, but they're usually not stupid.
They're going to come back in three and four years and go, what am I paying for?
Okay, what am I paying?
Why am I spending all this money?
And the market's going to correct itself.
I think these players right now have hit the jackpot, especially the dudes in the portal right now.
This next year or two, these dudes are going to get a lot of money.
And then I think, Drew, it's going to settle down, and the money's going to go way down.
And there's going to be people going, why am I spending $2 million every year?
So I think it's going to be different.
Yeah, rich people, most of them got rich because they're good with money.
And if you're just handing over millions every season to watch your favorite sport
and you're not getting the results you want because it's college basketball, anything can happen,
I think you're quickly going to realize after about four or five years, I've spent a lot of money on this team.
And maybe we've seen one sweet 16.
I'm going to dial that back a little bit.
Dude, I think the pressure on these coaches that have tons of NIL is through the roof.
Again, go back to Arkansas.
Let's say the Tyson chicken guy and Jerry Jones spend $9 or $10 million on a roster.
They better win.
They better not losing a first round of tournament.
No better time in history to be a part of college athletics than right now.
I agree.
And so I do.
I think that's a really good point, Shannon.
I do think the market is going to correct itself in a few years.
Who's next?
Sean.
Sean what's up Sean
Hey guys
Welcome to the 606
Glad to be here
Well glad to have you
And just a couple comments
First of all about TSSR

Been watching you guys
Enjoying it

Thank you
Drive a little
Drive a little bus
So whoever's on my bus
has to listen whether they want to or not.
And I'm getting ready to get out and join the party in person for the first time.
So I just wanted to give you guys a shout out.
Congratulations, Reed Sheppard.
Been watching the boy since he's about eight or nine years old and living out his dream.
And I wish him and his family the best.
I appreciate it.
And I see you.
That's really weird.
I can see the guy sitting in the bus right there.
He's calling and he is waving.
Hello to you.
And come on out of the bus and join us.
They got free food over here.
Chicken and pork sitting right over there.
to you. We're going to take a break and be right back. We're here in London. Great crowd of
Eastern Kentuckians and my parents are here. We'll be right back. It's Kentucky Sports Radio.
Welcome back, Tucky Sports Radio here live in London, Bluegrass Home Center. I'll give you
Kentucky weather at its most crazy. You know, it was 82 degrees the other day. We have a frost
warning on Sunday morning. No, I just got all my plants out.
Got my pool ready.
You can't have a frost warning this late in April?
Come on, man.
It was 80.
And now a frost warning, like four days later.
I said out loud two days ago, I think we can finally put all the winter clothes away.
The heat is here.
You never know how to dress, you know.
Yeah.
It felt like we went straight from winter to summer and skipped spring, and now we're back to winter.
And now we're right back to it.
It's worth noting, again, we've spent so much time talking about men's basketball.
It is worth noting our women's basketball team is low.
voting up. Kenny Brooks has not only gotten a lot of staff, he's gotten an insane amount of
players. We are going to have one of the tallest teams that you've ever seen in women's basketball.
Like our guards are going to be six feet tall. Like we have his roster, he just keeps bringing
in star after star. We have a girl who's a McDonald's, not a McDonald's, just an all-American
at Virginia Tech. There's some of the top recruits in the country coming.
Kentucky's women's team, Drew, could be really good next year.
Yeah, I feel like every time I open Twitter,
there's a new tweet from Phoenix Stevens,
who is killing it on the women's beat,
about a new player committed,
or now the staff has finally announced.
I like that even in years when Kentucky was good with Matthew Mitchell,
you know, he had some amazing superstars,
but they always lacked some size inside.
They were always just a little too short
when they'd run into one of those teams in the tournament,
but it seems Kenny Brooks is not going to have that problem at all.
Kentucky might be the team with all the size.
So he's going to be, I mean, they're going to open a new arena.
I mean, it's the same arena, but it's going to be completely redone.
It's going to be very nice with a huge team.
I think you're going to see, it's going to be neat having two teams to cheer for during basketball season.
Correct me if I'm wrong.
Didn't I see he signed a 6-7 girl and a 6-6 girl?
A 6-7 and a 6-6.
Wow.
And the All-American girl that's coming with him.
Yeah, I don't think people realize one of the best returning players in America is coming
to play at Kentucky next year. She is one of the best players in America is coming here,
and I don't know that we're ready for how good. They're going to go from the worst team in the
SEC to be one of the three or four best team. Should be a fun team to watch too with that kind of
height in women's basketball. I think that we're going to find quickly that this was a good
hire with Kenny Brooks. Mitch Barnhart, we've all been judging the Mark Pope hire.
The Kenny Brooks higher, I think, is going to end up being a slam dunk. One person,
writes, Matt, with Mark Pope, do you think our fans will give him patience if we lose to Duke
in the first game of the year? That's another thing people don't realize. We play Duke. It'll be
the first or second game of the year in the Champions Classic. So you're going to get right
out the door with Duke. It's also weird. Duke's got a lot of guys leaving. Don't you think that's
strange? They do, but Cooper, they got a class coming in. I think it's going to be hard to handle
that first game of the season. Oddly, I think we'll have a better chance with Pope.
roster, Cal with the six freshmen, I just didn't think the first game of the year being Duke the way it was.
I thought we might have gotten killed with what we're heading for before we made the coaching change.
But I just say that's a tall test.
It's pretty exciting, though, if we could beat Duke in the first game, Ryan, that would be exciting.
That would be a heck of jumping out of the gate to knock off one of the best teams in the country right at first game.
So you mentioned that, I mean, the Roach guy left Duke and now hasn't a second?
Another one, T. T.J. Power left.
That's it. Yeah.
But I want you to think about Kentucky's schedule next year.
They play Duke.
If you believe the reports are going to play Rick Petino in St. John's.
They're going to play John Cal Perry's coming to Rump Arena.
They're going to play Ohio State, which includes Aaron Bradshaw, in the CBS Classic.
They're going to play Gonzaga.
And then they're going to play a team from the ACC, which I would guess will be North Carolina, probably there.
Yeah, bring it on.
I mean, that's going to be a pretty amazing schedule in year one.
If you want a battle test a team and a schedule that's going to get you ready for March,
then I think that's the way you go instead of playing some of these schools that the Calera
have played.
I want to play St. John's, but I want to play them next year.
That'll be the 30-year anniversary of the 96 team.
Playing them at Rupp in 2026, not in 2025.
I want to play them.
I want to play them suit.
Maybe play them in the garden this year.
I think there's going to, I think it's going to be an awesome moment when Rick comes back.
First of all, it'll drive Cal insane.
Yeah.
It'll drive.
Cowell's head will explode when Rick Patino walks into Ruppery.
Because I think, let me ask you this, will Patino get an ovation now?
How loud are we talking?
I think it'll be pretty mixed reactions.
I don't think we'll get a lot of booing.
We'll have some quiet.
Lays your hand.
How many of you would applaud Rick Patino.
today. How many of you would boo him? Unanimous applause. Wow. Wow. I'm going to make a prediction. I think if he
walks in there with St. John's, the place will go wild. I think the place will go insane. And I think when he
walks in, all of Patino's players will be sitting there. People will be excited about that. Two years ago,
I didn't think there was a world where Rick could ever be cheered in Rupp again. Now I think if he comes
next year he'd get a louder ovation than cow would he he's won a lot of us over lately in that
video i made i think got a lot of people who were still on the fence to jump back to oh yeah he's he is
do you all agree with me do you think rick would get a louder ovation than cow oh yeah i think so
i know yeah i still think there's people that aren't going to cheer rick though i don't think it's
going to be a roar yeah they're not going to forget the little old years but i mean he flipped us off
and he has a little bit let me tell you something not one person you're right right didn't raise
their hand that they're going to cheer. I mean,
and like, I don't
know, man. I would cheer,
I mean, I still appreciate everything that he did
going back to the 90s. Look,
I have as
much, I disliked
Rick more than anybody. And if he
comes in tomorrow, I'm going to cheer him.
That video he did for
Mark Pope went a long way with me.
Yeah. Because that took a lot
of, not of guts, but that was a real
kind of classy thing to do. Something he
didn't have to do. He didn't have to do it. It was well
thought out. I think it helped Mark a lot. So actually, that's a big part of it for me. What's next?
Logan. Logan. How are you, Logan? Doing well. I have a question regarding the NIL still. Well, first off,
if you don't think players were being paid before this came out, you're wrong. So that's a reason to stop donating.
But either way, how long are we going to wait for these players to actually cash their final NIL checks to actually start to do?
Jeff Goodman. Yeah, so Jeff Goodman says, and he would know, Jeff Goodman says that there will be players enter the portal early next week because their final NIL check clears this weekend.
So, I mean, that's kind of a crazy thing to say. No. I know of at least one player that UK will get that is not even in the portal yet.
So again, I think the people that are panicking don't understand that there are really good players who aren't even in the portal yet who will be.
I'm asking if I can, are they asking price going to be going higher because it's the supposed like the Roach and the Balo prices that have been thrown around.
Yeah, I don't.
Okay, so I appreciate the call.
When you taught prices, my first thing is I'm going to take Drew Franklin's old view, which is it's not my money.
What do I care?
Right.
Longstanding view.
That's your longstanding view.
Secondly, I think every single price you see is too high.
Nobody gets what you hear they get.
We talked about this about a year ago.
When you see people's numbers, here's what you need to think.
It is in the player's best interest to put out there that he's making a lot of money.
Why?
It makes him seem very valuable.
It is in the school's best interest to say they paid a lot of money.
money so it looks like they're the kind of school that's out there to get place.
Sure.
When in reality, I don't think either one of them is as high as they think.
Here's what I think happens.
I think a kid Shannon signs for, let's just say, $500,000.
And the kid and the school agree, let's tell everybody we signed for $300 or for $500,
even though it was $300 or whatever.
Win for both sides, right?
It's a win for both sides.
And I think that's what happens.
Now, I do think there are some kids that make a lot of money,
but I think nobody, Ryan, makes as much as the public acts like they make.
Yeah, there was that narrative.
Was it last year that Oscar was making, what was it, $3 million or something?
He did not make $3 million.
No, but that was everybody believed it, I think,
because that word was out there put out by him or U.K.
I don't know.
Oscar and Reed are probably the two guys that have done the best,
and neither of them made as much as people think they made.
They both did very well.
but neither of them made as much as people think they made chance.
Yeah, it makes the player more desirable,
makes the school look like they're committed to paying for the best players.
So it works out on both ends.
The person I know that knows the Nile world better than anybody,
when the announcement was, Drew, that we were going to have $4 million,
this is what the person said to me.
You can put a final four caliber team together with that amount of money
and have a lot left over to save for next year.
Good.
Like hearing that?
Yeah, I do too.
Also on all this where fans are worried because they're not hearing things,
that's often a good thing because these players, like you know one,
I know one that hadn't been said.
But the moment that's put on a message board, their coach calls them and says,
wait a minute, all this stuff is being done behind the scenes.
And when fans know, all the coaches know at that point,
and then they can go re-recrued them or try to get in between it from happening.
So sometimes quiet isn't necessarily a bad thing on these players.
I agree with you.
Tell me about Stockton Morgan.
You know, Stockton Mortgage is so good.
guess who the Bluegrass Home Center has is one of their financial partners.

all kinds of stuff coming in, including great Osaboard.
Now, that's the Utah State guy.
ESPN has now ranked him as the number four transfer portal person available,
and now multiple people are picking Kentucky to get him,
as Mark Pope will meet with him today.
So hopefully that will be maybe one of the ones that comes to fruition here, Ryan,
in the next couple days.
I'm of the belief if you get him, you get Jackson,
Robinson from BYU, who is still not in the portal yet, but you get him, find one more really good
player, and I think you have a chance to be really good next year. I think you need three really
good players. That would be two, in my opinion. Yeah, if they can pull off the great addition here.
I really like that guy. He was the player of the year of the Mountain West, almost average a double
double. I was looking at some of his games. He had a 31 and 10 game, like a 27 and 11 game.
I think he'll translate really well into the SEC with that size and how he plays.
Remember the Mountain West, I mean, I know you may be like, oh, it's the Mountain West.
They were good last year.
The Mountain West was probably better than the ACC for a lot of the regular season last year.
Their postseason was just so-so, but this kid can pluck.
I ask you how big he was.
You said he's kind of a 6-8, but he's like strong.
He's got big muscles, but he can score a lot of different ways.
He's a good player.
I've seen people wondering how this fits with Pope because we've heard so much about shooting threes.
But if you watch Pope even had a big guy similar to this and where they space it and they can't leave the shooters,
his big guys are just going one on one in the paint and you cannot double them and leave a shooter.
So I guess he's kind of filling that role with him where he could just eat inside.
I heard Nate Oates talking about his offense at the final four and Nate Oates was exactly right.
He says everybody just talks about the threes.
But he's like our offense is not just threes.
It's threes and layups.
He was like, we want threes and layups.
And dudes like this, Shannon, are for the and layups part of threes and layups.
And that's the modern offense that we've been talking about for years and wanting with Calipari
that he sort of moved to last year.
But yeah, you've got to have somebody inside to eat.
But our problem last year was our big guys couldn't score.
Yeah, yeah, good hit layups.
We could get them easy shots and then they would miss them.
It was the problem because usually they were not.
physical enough, this would be a dude, Ryan, who I think could be. Yeah, and if you had the Drexel guy
who's 610 and is a defensive specialist and kind of a big butt kind of post player, you've got
a lot of size now. You get those two big guys, in my opinion, you got your big guys. Now you
just got to go find guards, and there's usually a lot more guards that can play than there
are big guys that can play as we learned last year with our team. And they're both British.
We just need two British-Rubis. We need a lot of British guys.
Tia Cropis, sign them up. Bill.
Bill what's up bill hey guys
I'm going pretty good
hey listen the NIL
I think all of this relates together
in the sense that you know
Kentucky fans an entire generation
has grown up with cow and they're
we're running on a sugar high so to speak
with all of the five star one and duns
and all of that and obviously coach
folks going to change the approach and the direction
on that so number one we need to have a little bit of
patience for him to get the players in there
and all of this NIL anxiety and transfer
reporter anxiety just plays into that sugar hide.
But what's going to be interesting to me is coach Brooks with the women's team
has taken the approach of attacking the five stars and getting them in.
So I just hope that the fans have a little bit of patience and can see through it and don't.
I think the wins team is going to be really good.
And I think it's going to take maybe a year for the guys team.
I think you're right.
And let's remember when it, okay, so on that point, sir, I think that's a really good
point that I mean my Kentucky branded call of the day. With Kenny Brooks, he's coming from Virginia
Tech where he recruited four and five stars. So it's pretty easy for him to go bring four and five stars
here and he's done it. Mark Pope was at BYU where they don't recruit four and five stars.
So he's having to basically skip a year. He'll recruit the four and five stars, Ryan, next year.
But he's got to have a year to do it because he didn't recruit him this year. At BYU, you can't
recruit four and five stars to come play there.
They won't do it.
So he's almost having to start over.
So this year, we're having to go load up on the portal, get all these guys in the
portal.
But next year, by the time the portal starts, we'll already have players because he will
have spent time recruiting.
So I do think everybody's acting like it's going to be this cluster of a roster every
year.
I think this is kind of a one-time thing because the kind of dudes he was recruiting,
at BYU are not Kentucky dudes and he has to sort of take a year to adjust.
I totally agree with you.
And even if he started right now, there aren't any four or five star guys left.
One guy.
One guy.
That's it.
And people, there was one of these little sort of who knows who's real and who's not Shannon.
But one of these like quote unquote experts in the rumor world says that the kid that Kentucky's
recruiting, Yukon and Kentucky are his two top choices, the one five star.
that's left. Yeah, that's got to make you feel good.
Liam McNeil. Those two guys
there. And again, I'll remind people,
Pope's been our coach for seven days.
And they're like, why aren't we
fill up the roster quickly?
You'll get his guys. He's only been here a week.
I feel like I've said this a bunch,
but like nobody's worried about
John Calgary getting guys, right?
No, no, no. How many guys is he
he's had the job one week, week more than
Pope? How many commitments does he have?
One. One.
How many people are on John Calpary's
roster one one and it's a guy who played for him last year yeah i don't think people are going
oh no is john caliperi get players that's my point yeah so i just i'm with you shanan and i think people
just got to be like it's going to be all right the chips will fall where they need to fall and and i
think this team will be okay once we get the roster filled out last year we were still looking for
antonio reeves in like june trey mitchell landed in june i mean that's true i mean you want it to
get done earlier but some of this stuff can linger on end of the early summer the
Players have to be in the portal by next Monday, so a week for Monday.
But they don't have to decide until like July.
So there's going to be players we might pick up a long time from now.
Everybody that's going to be in the portal, we'll know everybody in the portal in 10 days.
But as for when they decide, Ryan, that could happen anytime.
Yeah, we kind of expect that roster to take place right now.
Give it time. There's going to be some guys we add later in the summer that's going to be a big time player.
All right. Let's talk about schedule. UK baseball tonight, Saturday night and Sunday, we'll have all the games at KS. Bar.
If you want, if you're going to the games, come in before or after should be a good weekend.
And then I think everything else is everybody take a deep breath after a few weeks of chaos, right?
No, I'm not taking a deep breath straight to Kentucky Proud Park. I'm fired up for that baseball series.
Let's beat the balls.
Seriously, if you haven't bought tickets, go out there.
I think that's going to be an awesome weekend starting tonight with Kentucky and Tennessee.
Thank you all here, Bluegrass Home Center in London, home of Reed Shepard.
One of the best to ever do it from this region.
I hope he crushes it in the draft.
We'll see you later.
